Description
This app only does one thing and that's to help you take better photos of the aurora borealis, aka the northern lights. Here's the scenario - so you see the northern lights (!! - awesome for you, by the way), but you don't have a fancy digital camera with you. Thankfully, you have your trusty iPhone or iPad! OK! Now what?? Do you know the tips and tricks to take photos of the northern lights ? Great, if you do! Enable manual mode; set the focus to infinity; change the temperature to a certain number; change the ISO between certain values; change the shutter speed to something else....wait what...? Don't worry, this app does all of that for you so all you have to do is find those lights. ISO, shutter speed, long exposure mode, temperature, check check check. There are 3 presets that you can choose from based on the brightness of the aurora lights that you're seeing. Those don't work? Try out custom mode until you get that 'good-enough-for-me-to-show-to-my-friends' snap and take as many photos as you'd like! Worth a shot ! (hah..a...was funny when this was typed...)
Waste of $$$
by TennyDaz on 2019/11/21 14:32
I downloaded this app with the hopes to take a better picture of the northern lights. My iPhone night mode camera took better pics than the app did. Don’t waste your $ on this like I did- it’s totally worthless
Didn’t work
by icelandgal on 2019/11/11 04:12
I installed this app when I was in Iceland 2 weeks ago. We had two nights of amazing northern lights activity and I was anxious to take photos on my iPhone. I started Shooting and the camera just kept clicking, maybe 7 times each time I clicked the shutter. I thought this was normal and then found out it wasn’t. Anyway, all I got were several totally black photos. I never got one photo of the northern lights other than photos sent to me by traveling companions. I tried again the next night with the same results. The app did not work for me.
Takes great pictures on iPhone
by KAG77777 on 2019/11/07 06:47
The northern lights showed up great! I told so many others on my cruise about your app because their phones weren’t picking up the lights. I got so many amazing Northern Lights pictures!
Don’t waste your money
by cyngrimm on 2019/10/25 16:10
I bought this app because I went on a Northern Lights tour in Iceland. All the photos taken thru this app were black. The photos taken with my iPhone were tons better.
$.99 out the window
by Cozmot on 2019/10/25 09:20
This is pure junk. I bought it before an excursion in Iceland to see the Northern Lights. The lights were very strong, but this app mostly brought up a black screen. Once in a while I caught a glimpse of the lights with it, but then the screen went black again. I tried all the settings, but to no avail. And, yes, I gave it access to my camera after I first downloaded it. I just took shots from my iPhone 11, and they were spectacular. This was recommended by an article about taking photos of the Northern Lights with smartphones, but I’m quite positive now that it was a paid endorsement. Save a buck and find another app.
Best 0.99 I’ve ever spent
by Schmangie307 on 2019/09/27 20:14
I bought this for a trip to Norway since I don’t have a fancy camera and was just bringing my iPhone. It obviously does not look like a professional photograph but still did a great job capturing the lights so that I have a visual memory. I think it’s worth it!!
Don’t buy
by annoyed888798 on 2019/09/22 23:20
If you have an iPhone 11 don’t bother. Our night setting and cámara work no need for this app that DOES NOT work.
I wish I could give it negative stars.
by crowbot476 on 2019/09/09 07:23
I got this app on the suggestion of a tour guide in Iceland while out hunting down a good spot to view the Northern Lights. However, it wouldn’t work. Basically I got a bunch of black pictures, although in all fairness one picture did get a faint red glow from the bus lights...I can’t believe I actually paid for this.
Good app
by messiahboo on 2019/05/08 16:29
I got just what I expected. I used the app with an iPhone 6 on an inexpensive tripod. I had a remote shutter release but didn’t need it. The app allows you about a second or so then tells you to hold still. Plenty of time to move away. Yes the pics are a little grainy but decent and I was able to use my iPhone!
App for Northern lights
by cisonar on 2019/04/10 20:20
It was hard to use. I didn’t get it to work that night I purchased it.
Didn’t do any better than regular camera
by Iceland Fan on 2019/03/31 23:31
This app is a waste of money. Buy the other app that’s good for NorthernLights to try instead. Couldn’t capture any speck of northern lights I saw. I had high hopes, but it let me down big time in a moment of need.
Useless app
by disfan1984 on 2019/03/30 10:08
This app is terrible, tried to take pics of the northern lights last night and couldn’t get one decent photo with this app, my normal phone camera got a better pic. What a waste of money, don’t bother.

Images of the Northern Lights Captured!
by EthanLane2017 on 2019/03/26 23:04
Thank you Simon Leung for developing this fantastic App! I was lucky enough to see the Northern Lights in Yellowknife, North West Territories over the past two days and your App helped me preserve those images!
Exactly what you expect - Good (not great) quality photos
by E_Berms on 2019/03/24 13:26
Used this app to capture images of the Northern Lights on a particularly high visibility night. Used a tripod and a remote to take pics so as not to have to touch the phone very much. As long as everything stayed still, the pictures came out quite good. Clearly they are not DSLR or professional-level images and won’t win any photography awards for Northern Lights pictures, but they are MUCH MUCH MUCH better than you’d get from just using your iPhone camera (which I tried, and simply got black).
Does not work.
by NotWothPurchase on 2019/03/20 14:52
Don’t waste your .99 cents on this app. It doesn’t work. If you want great photos of the aurora take a good camera with you. Don’t depend on this app or you will be very disappointed with the results.
Not helpful
by KBAJOK on 2019/03/14 06:37
I probably should have done a bit more research in the difference between Northern Lights photo Apps... my bad. I didn’t find this one very useful (most of mine came out as rather dark tie-dyed blobs) but luckily was on a trip with others who had better apps and got better photos... good luck...
Worked well in Norway
by Dudah in Texas on 2019/03/02 04:10
Used every night we saw the Northern Lights in Norway- I got some great photos- a tripod would have made my shots better, but I am happy with what I got.
Highly recommend!!
by Qtlicious44 on 2019/02/27 22:44
I would highly recommend this app! It worked amazing with my iPhone! You will not be disappointed!!! My pictures came amazing!
Waste of $
by fhhkfv on 2019/02/03 23:05
If you really thinking of having those green clear northern lights , you better download some pictures on google. Unless you have a professional camera , you are not getting any good quality picture. Don’t waste a dollar not your hope on this app
It crashes
by tffejnkpiyeadgunbxtjnvdyjb on 2018/12/28 01:25
It crashes. I cannot open the app at all.
Worth it only if you don’t have a real camera
by Chels223 on 2018/12/22 04:09
Honestly, I do not think this app is worth downloading. I tried it out while capturing photos of the northern lights in Iceland recently. It’s slightly better than the normal iPhone camera (which was not picking up any green), but even with the app I could barely see what would be considered “northern lights”. If you don’t have a real camera and this is your last resort, it’s worth it to show the green lights exist, but the photos are not good quality.
You could get better pics without it
by Ziggy Overlord on 2018/12/08 23:21
In Iceland right now and this app takes pics of just wide expanses of night sky. Nothing shows up. I have never been as disappointed as I have been with this app. The lights are beautiful, but this app will do nothing for your ability to capture them. You will still need a camera, tripod and skill.
Does not work
by HsnadndnNzbbz on 2018/11/06 04:28
I am not able to allow this app to access the camera on my phone. The app does not even show up in my list of apps in my Settings. When I tried the “app support” option, the listed page no longer exists.
Won’t friggin work!

Terrible
by schultze700 on 2018/11/05 11:22
Very grainy and you have to hold it super still or it’s not clear. When I set it in something to make it still the pics are still extremely grainy. My iPhone took better pics without the app.
No
by Flomandaa on 2018/11/05 06:31

Not Worth Your Money
by Darkmine123 on 2018/09/29 17:12
for 99 cents, you're making a mistake, since you're just letting more grain appear and barely anything on the app is smooth.
Waste of money
by DebDebNYC on 2018/09/22 04:03
I purchased this app in hopes of catching the northern lights in Iceland. It was a level 3 night so the lights were not strong. This app caught nothing on a tripod. My DSLR caught beautiful pics! So disappointed. Didn’t expect it to catch pics like my DSLR but something would have sufficed. I got black pictures. Bummer!
IT ACTUALLY WORKS!!
by richmerino on 2018/09/22 02:32
if you’re a complete photo noob THIS APP IS FOR YOU! I know absolutely nothing about camera settings and still managed to get STUNNING photos of the northern lights in Iceland. It has pre-set settings, just point and snap! Great app for people who really don’t understand the appropriate settings that cameras need to be on to capture something as special as the northern lights.
Photos in HD please?

Wow this app is amazing. 10/19/17 2AM - 9/11/18 rushed outside to take a few pics only to realize those photos weren’t good so I missed those opportunities as the lights danced above me I randomly frantically searched on YouTube “Northern lights app” I found a clip of a tourist that used this app to capture them she said “it’s only 99c” so I took a chance and wow i was surprised for 99c it really worked

Best app for the buck. “99 cents”. Am very satisfied. Used app on trip to Norway. Very happy with result. Got some super photos of the Aurora. App color exactly like you see it. Can’t go wrong. Thank you, Twoyys.
Worth it
by Very good, 1 or 2 changes... on 2018/03/26 18:26
Best .99 I’ve spent. Photos came out a bit grainy but that was somewhat expected. My iPhone camera couldn’t pick up anything at all and this app let me photograph the lights in Iceland. It sets up an extended exposure so you need to lean against something to hold still(ish) or consider getting a tripod setup. It only worked on the weak setting for me, even when they seemed bright. Only thing that would make this better is if it allowed a video feature since my phone camera/video couldn’t pick them up enough to show the lights dancing all over the sky.
Trash
by Alex Ander the LT on 2018/03/22 16:58
This app is trash!!! I bought it to use when we saw the northern lights in Iceland. I took multiple photos with this app and could NOT see anything. Don’t waste your money. Look for slow shutter app. It worked 1,000 times better.
Works!
by stealth123 on 2018/03/10 09:57
We were in Iceland - and found out that the iPhone was horrid in taking pictures of the northern lights. A quick Google resulted in this app. Skeptical at first - but tried it out of desperation. Happy with the results! Not perfect - but enough to document the moments.
Best 99 cents ever spent
by Liz TP on 2018/02/25 22:29
Got this for a trip to Iceland in December 2017. Not being a professional photographer, I wanted an easy app to get a decent photo. Bought this app and another and only ended up using this one. People kept coming up to us and asking how we were getting the northern lights to show up using our camera on our phone. The photos aren’t perfect, they’re a little grainy but they’re so much better than nothing and so much better than I was expecting. I don’t think you’ll find a better app for this. I would HIGHLY recommend buying this app. Best app I’ve ever gotten! Thank you!
Amazing App
by FWR360 on 2018/02/21 22:35
I have never reviewed an App before. This one deserves it. If you are seeing the Aurora you MUST get this app. We went from not being able to get a photo to several amazing shots. Can’t thank you enough for making this.
Get it
by shumnie on 2018/01/16 19:51
Super awesome app, I was able to take some photos on this app if the northern light in Iceland. I brought my point and shoot camera with no luck. So unless you have special camera with tripod this is a good option
Northern Lights

Definitely worth the price. I was afraid that my iPhone would not capture the Northern lights. This app did the trick. So happy the Northern lights museum recommended the app.
You need a tripod
by squeeky707 on 2017/12/16 23:14
Without a tripod don't bother, but I'm sure if I had had one pictures would turn out better. Pro tip- befriend someone with an actually nice camera!
Great App! Great Photos!
by lizzerama on 2017/11/24 11:24
This app definitely works if you see good Aurora! We saw them two nights in a row in Reykjavík and the first night they were very weak and I didn’t get any good pictures but the second night they were better and I got GREAT pictures! So it somewhat depends on the strength of the natural phenomenon. I used the weak setting. Pics are slightly blurry without a tripod but amazing when you consider its through an iPhone. Most people with us didn’t get pics and I had two strangers ask me to email them my pics because they were so good!!
Definitely Worth A Buck
by Kamalamala on 2017/11/07 14:00
You're not going to be hanging Aurora photos taken with this app in a gallery, but you'll be able to get something good enough to induce FB/IG jealousy. And you'll have the pleasure of knowing that what you saw was so much better than what the app can capture. Use that to talk your friends into visiting you in Alaska. 💯😜
Didn’t work!
by ctny-Sia on 2017/10/23 03:35
Wasted my $1 on this. My friends and I got it app for our Iceland trip. We saw northern light at the outskirts of the city but the app couldn’t capture anything. Then we saw the northern light again in the city with our bare eyes. We lifted up our iPhones to capture. The simple iPhone 7 camera can capture the light, BUT NOTHING WITH THIS APP! So disappointed!

by D_spell1 on 2017/03/22 23:05
Don't waste your time. Buy a DSLR if you want to shoot northern lights. This app didn't work for me with high activity and very dark skies. My DSLR did though :-)

I have a GoPro 3+ and was sad to learn it doesn't have a night mode (which supposedly takes good Aurora pics according to my tour guide). I was googling and came across someone who said this app worked, I figured $.99 was worth a shot for a once in a lifetime opportunity. And sure enough, jury rigged my GoPro tripod to hold my phone and voila, good (a little grainy but hey it's an iPhone camera not a DSLR) pictures of a very weak light. 5/5 because it turned an iPhone camera with no settings into one that can take pics of the northern lights with the push of a button
Amazing pictures
by JenShaw72 on 2017/03/01 16:58
At Fairbanks, Alaska right now to see the NorthernLights. I did a lot of researched on camera and how to take pictures of the NorthernLights. I went to Best Buy and almost bought a camera and lens which would have probably cost me between 4 to 5 thousand dollars. The trip here to Fairbanks wasn't cheap, so I had to do a lot of thinking. Finally, decided not to but those fancy camera. I saw this app on the App Store the other day as I was getting ready to leave for Fairbanks. 99 cents should not hurt whether it is a flop or not. Drove to ski land last night as it was recommended to have the best view of the NorthernLights away from city lights. My friends and I were there for 4 hours and finally saw a streak of lights coming from the horizon going up. Took several pictures and all I could see was a hint of green light. Someone made a comment that without a tripod that you'll never capture that light. The light started fading. My friends and I decided that it was time to leave. 10 miles down the mountain I saw on my right side 2 streaks of lights going down behind the trees. I made a comment about it to my friend that I must be seeing a reflection of lights on the window. He looked to his left and saw a dancing light above the woods. We stopped safely the soonest we could and couldn't believe how much lights there were dancing as if it was taunting us. I pulled my iPhone again and open up the app. Tried it and to my amazements I was capturing tons of lights. I wish I could share the pictures here. I shared the pictures to my friends and family and they are stunned the beautiful lights I was able to capture with an iPhone and 99 cents app.
Terrible.

Black box
by Skysongz on 2016/04/03 04:30
The app wasn't able to pick up anything for some fairly bright lights. Save your money and get procam for free, it was able to take some from the same night. Of course it's no replacement for a real camera, but if your phone is all you have, skip this one.
Northern Lights in Iceland Captured!
by RAWRRRRRRR on 2016/04/03 03:08
We went to Iceland to see the Northern Lights but we didn't take the right lens for our camera. Our tour guide told us about this app while en route to see the lights and I downloaded it on the way. Wow! was I surprised to see how well the photos turned out. The only thing was that if the lights shined too weak the lens wouldn't capture it, but for 99 cents it's worth the risk. I came home with great memories thanks to this app. I highly recommend it.
Fantastic App!!
by 267-283-411 on 2016/03/28 01:52
In Iceland and the Northern Lights were supposed to be good tonight, but I only had my iPhone. Decided to give this app a try, and WOW!! Even on a rocky boat with some background lights, it worked great! Will these get printed/published? No Did they capture the essence of what I saw so I can keep the memory and share the pictures with family & friends online? Absolutely yes!!! Don't hesitate. Best $.99 app I ever bought!
Don't bother
by Redi6747 on 2016/02/14 23:28
Don't waste $.99. The app is useless. The pic come pitch black. The technology is not possible yet to take still high exposure pics on mobile phones. Invest in DSLR camera or have your guide take your pics with his camera.
AMAZING
by ReganNoelle on 2016/02/11 22:54
This app is incredible. No way I would've gotten any pictures of the northern lights without it. I don't know the first thing about "real" cameras, and just as the description says - this app does it all for you. Great work developers!

Not worth a dollar
by Fhxsfvvnffgbnkfdcyf)$35),6? on 2015/11/29 08:33
I tried to use this last night in Iceland. Unless the lights are bright enough (which apparently is rare) it won't pick up anything and will be black. I couldn't get it to work, so I used my own eyes to look, which was much more rewarding! Wouldn't pay for the app, any digital camera probably has enough settings to take better pictures.
It works!!!
by Mysuru on 2015/11/12 09:18
Amazing; it's what you need to supplement the apple camera.
Above Expectation
by Hetubrio on 2015/08/23 18:11
Excels far beyond what I would expect from a cell phone camera. Absolutely worth the dollar if you want to document the experience, don't even think twice. Don't expect print-quality sharpness, but this is the best you are going to get from your phone and will provide evidence of how spectacular the experience was to your friends back home.

Took a chance on this app as I was going to Iceland to see aurora lights. Figured 99 cents wouldn't be the end of the world if it didn't work, but to my pleasant surprise, this app took decent pictures of the aurora lights!! I say decent because quality can't really compare to a nice digital camera. I compared the stock camera app to this app and this one definitely showed better results 😀

by Bburg321 on 2017/03/12 07:55
I have a GoPro 3+ and was sad to learn it doesn't have a night mode (which supposedly takes good Aurora pics according to my tour guide).
Worth it
by Very good, 1 or 2 changes... on 2018/03/26 18:26
Best .99 I’ve spent.
Pretty cool app
by spiraling shape on 2015/04/14 22:12
Took a chance on this app as I was going to Iceland to see aurora lights.
You need a tripod
by squeeky707 on 2017/12/16 23:14
Without a tripod don't bother, but I'm sure if I had had one pictures would turn out better. Pro tip- befriend someone with an actually nice camera!
Didn’t work
by icelandgal on 2019/11/11 04:12
I installed this app when I was in Iceland 2 weeks ago.
Good app
by messiahboo on 2019/05/08 16:29
I got just what I expected. I used the app with an iPhone 6 on an inexpensive tripod. I had a remote shutter release but didn’t need it. The app allows you about a second or so then tells you to hold still. Plenty of time to move away. Yes the pics are a little grainy but decent and I was able to use my iPhone!
Worked perfectly!
by LJT2000 on 2016/02/01 08:06
Went to Iceland specifically to look for Northern Lights. First night that we saw them none of us had a camera that could capture the moment. Thankfully we saw them the second night as well but this time caught in pictures. Thank you app!!
Great in the dark! 🌌
by LunaLikesArt on 2015/06/24 23:26
I've taken great pictures with this app at an art festival at night, it's actually pretty impressive! One little improvement suggestion though - have a way to access the pictures taken with the app instead of going to the photo gallery.
Fantastic
by BrummieCa on 2017/03/31 09:07
Purchased this yesterday evening, our last night in Reykjavik. The sky was so clear so I thought, "give it a go". The results were fantastic!!! If you are going anywhere to see the northern or southern lights and are not a serious photographer, this is for you!
Love the app
by Just Another Lowly Developer on 2015/04/24 21:47
I love how simple this app is. It does one thing and one thing well. I went to Alaska earlier this month and picked up this app on the way. It took a few tries to capture the northern lights (too much light and my hands were not steady), but was very happy with the results!!!!
Amazing App
by FWR360 on 2018/02/21 22:35
I have never reviewed an App before. This one deserves it. If you are seeing the Aurora you MUST get this app. We went from not being able to get a photo to several amazing shots. Can’t thank you enough for making this.
Takes great pictures on iPhone
by KAG77777 on 2019/11/07 06:47
The northern lights showed up great! I told so many others on my cruise about your app because their phones weren’t picking up the lights. I got so many amazing Northern Lights pictures!
AMAZING
by ReganNoelle on 2016/02/11 22:54
This app is incredible. No way I would've gotten any pictures of the northern lights without it. I don't know the first thing about "real" cameras, and just as the description says - this app does it all for you. Great work developers!
Get it
by shumnie on 2018/01/16 19:51
Super awesome app, I was able to take some photos on this app if the northern light in Iceland. I brought my point and shoot camera with no luck. So unless you have special camera with tripod this is a good option
Highly recommend!!
by Qtlicious44 on 2019/02/27 22:44
I would highly recommend this app! It worked amazing with my iPhone! You will not be disappointed!!! My pictures came amazing!
Works!
by stealth123 on 2018/03/10 09:57
We were in Iceland - and found out that the iPhone was horrid in taking pictures of the northern lights. A quick Google resulted in this app. Skeptical at first - but tried it out of desperation. Happy with the results! Not perfect - but enough to document the moments.
Worked well in Norway
by Dudah in Texas on 2019/03/02 04:10
Used every night we saw the Northern Lights in Norway- I got some great photos- a tripod would have made my shots better, but I am happy with what I got.
Northern lights
by Twoyys on 2018/04/11 07:43
Best app for the buck. “99 cents”. Am very satisfied. Used app on trip to Norway. Very happy with result. Got some super photos of the Aurora. App color exactly like you see it. Can’t go wrong. Thank you, Twoyys.
Not helpful
by KBAJOK on 2019/03/14 06:37
I probably should have done a bit more research in the difference between Northern Lights photo Apps... my bad. I didn’t find this one very useful (most of mine came out as rather dark tie-dyed blobs) but luckily was on a trip with others who had better apps and got better photos... good luck...
Very intuitive and easy to use
by Irene Pir on 2018/10/24 02:52
Got this app based on friends recommendation. The app does a great job and is very simple to understand.
Great app!
by ATL Professor on 2016/12/13 01:13
We saw the faintest of shimmer in the sky, but with this app our pictures are stunning. It was cool to look through the app and really see the lights dancing.
It works
by Mcmullinl on 2016/11/20 23:04
Was very skeptical that it would work. I took the big 99 risk and it worked. I got pictures tonight of the northern lights. So happy. Thanks.
Waste of $
by fhhkfv on 2019/02/03 23:05
If you really thinking of having those green clear northern lights , you better download some pictures on google. Unless you have a professional camera , you are not getting any good quality picture. Don’t waste a dollar not your hope on this app
Amazing!!
by Obeezee on 2015/12/12 00:41
This app is totally worth the $0.99! I used it tonight to take photos of the Northern lights and the photos were spectacular!
Northern Lights
by Duffmom on 2017/12/18 16:54
Definitely worth the price. I was afraid that my iPhone would not capture the Northern lights. This app did the trick. So happy the Northern lights museum recommended the app.
Black box
by Skysongz on 2016/04/03 04:30
The app wasn't able to pick up anything for some fairly bright lights. Save your money and get procam for free, it was able to take some from the same night. Of course it's no replacement for a real camera, but if your phone is all you have, skip this one.
Does not work
by HsnadndnNzbbz on 2018/11/06 04:28
I am not able to allow this app to access the camera on my phone. The app does not even show up in my list of apps in my Settings. When I tried the “app support” option, the listed page no longer exists.
Doesn’t work
by Rrrrrraaaannndy on 2018/11/05 18:53
Every time I go to the app it always says I need to accept the permissions and let my phone use the app but when I press the show me button it just takes me to my settings and the app doesn’t appear anywhere in my settings
Bummer!
Don’t get stoned
by Joe Patton Dayton Oh WUTT on 2018/08/26 13:10
Stoned, whiskey drunk. Should’ve read the directions. Take only memories, lead only footprints
Waste of $$$
by TennyDaz on 2019/11/21 14:32
I downloaded this app with the hopes to take a better picture of the northern lights. My iPhone night mode camera took better pics than the app did. Don’t waste your $ on this like I did- it’s totally worthless
Terrible
by schultze700 on 2018/11/05 11:22
Very grainy and you have to hold it super still or it’s not clear. When I set it in something to make it still the pics are still extremely grainy. My iPhone took better pics without the app.
