Description
Office Lens trims, enhances and makes pictures of whiteboards and documents readable. Office Lens can convert images to editable Word and PowerPoint files too. Office Lens is like having a scanner in your pocket. Like magic, it will digitize notes on whiteboards or blackboards. Always find important documents or business cards. Sketch your ideas and snap a picture for later. Don't lose receipts or stray sticky notes again! Scenarios: - Capture and crop a picture of a whiteboard or blackboard and share your meeting notes with co-workers. - Make digital copies of your printed documents, business cards or posters and trim them precisely. - Printed and handwritten text will be automatically recognized (using OCR), so you can search for words in images and then copy and edit them. Features: - With Whiteboard mode, Office Lens trims and cleans up glare and shadows. - With Document mode, Office Lens trims and colors images perfectly. - Pictures can be saved to OneNote, OneDrive or other cloud storage. - Business Card mode can extract contact information and save it into your address book and OneNote. This feature works best with the following business cards: English, German, Spanish and Simplified Chinese. Support for more languages is coming soon. - Choose to convert images to Word (.docx), PowerPoint (.pptx) or PDF (.pdf) files that are automatically saved to OneDrive.
Forced to Login to OneDrive EVERY time
by Kentc691923 on 2020/08/07 01:00
This app used to work well, but Microsoft upgraded it some point and now I have to input my Microsoft Account, password and MFA every single time I try to save a note to OneNote in my personal OneDrive. If you hate SSO, this app is for you. It works great for capturing writing on whiteboards, and "scanning" business cards and documents.
Can’t log in
by RichRs on 2020/08/06 14:47
I can’t log in with my work account. After clicking Add account, I put in my username, it flips between screens that don’t fully load, then just goes back to the Accounts page. Somehow, it managed to add my personal account without my even trying. My other Office apps are connected to both accounts, so it’s not clear why this one is having such a problem. The phone is up to date, I downloaded the app for the first time today, and I’ve tried force-quitting the app.
From great to creap
by unhapyuserhere on 2020/08/04 14:51
I used this app for a ling time and I was more than happy eith it, very easy to use, intuitive, doing everything right, noone could really notice that documents are scaned with iphone and not with a regular scaner. Than i was forced to update the app and it become trash. Automatic work started bugging, auto crop started to glitch, it was rotating documents for no reason, it strated twisting document to the right. And i had tonstop using it...

App won’t launch
by Ben.cy on 2020/08/01 05:49
Aug 01, 2020: After the latest update the app won’t go to the scan window, instead stuck on “Microsoft respect your privacy” screen with no option to navigate. Probably issue with the resolution since iOS 13 update changed the resolution to a higher scale. Fix the app.
Locked up
by sjb1970 arch on 2020/07/29 16:16
Office lens is frozen on the “Microsoft cares about your privacy” screen and you can’t access your docs any other way. Was finalizing a project and was going to bulk export. Too late...garbage app.

For some reason the app only moves photos to different locations not scan and turn into text? Why?

Frustrated after the latest update
by seeville on 2020/07/20 18:37
So I recently updated the Lens app on my iPad. Since then I have a page about how they updated things and I should review my privacy options. I can click to Learn more but that sends me to safari. The page is cut off and I can’t move past this screen. So basically the app is useless. Why? This is frustrating but I guess it’s time to migrate to another app.
Just crashes
by NewNick7 on 2020/07/20 12:29
The app has not worked for me for over a year now, it just crashes sometimes right after opening while mostly right after taking a document picture. I thought is a MS app so will get fixed soon however it’s been so long, time to uninstall it !

WAS a 5 star, now a junk!

Account sign in no longer working

Devs. You screwed up the privacy policy splash screen
by Jjohnson x on 2020/07/10 23:13
It worked on my old iPhone 6 but not on my new iPad. Splash screen text runs off the right side of page. More importantly, it does NOT have a button so I can accept or reject it; only a link to read more about it. Great job! That’s typical for Microsoft since they leave it to users to be their beta testers. I’m dead in the water for this app on my iPad so there really is no reason to have it anymore. Bye Bye. Sad though; it used to be such a good and useful app in the good ole days.
Unusable
by S K Y E F L U X on 2020/07/10 17:01

Terrible update. Don’t upgrade!
by Former Lobster Mobster on 2020/07/01 02:25
This used to an incredible app. The latest update removed half the filters including the very useful Black & White 2. This filter was crucial for scanning thin pages with text on both sides like an encyclopedia or bible. That filter cranked up the contrast and brightness to remove the noise of the text on the back of the page. Now, no matter which of the few remaining filters you use, Office Lens still picks up noise. If it doesn’t try to OCR an odd letter, then it inserts it as an image. The alternative is take photos manually, edit them individually, and then import them, but this triples the amount of time. So what’s the point of the app?
Awesome App and very simple UI - Fast and Ultra Functional
by AtlantaFav on 2020/06/28 03:53
Fast and Ultra functional App. Great job to the team at Microsoft
Recent Update ruined the app
by windogexp on 2020/06/26 18:37
The recent update completely overhauled the app and ruined it. I loved Office Lens since it was simple, reliable, and fast. With this new update, I need to delete old scans before starting a new one, and accessing filters is more difficult and tedious. It’s also more difficult to rotate and mark-up, and wastes a lot of time. I need the scans to be fast since I’m a college student and used this app to scan times exams. Guess I won’t be using it anymore :/
Glitches Galore
by HGH2015 on 2020/06/25 03:54
This is just way too glitchy. It asked for my user name and password a dozen times whenever I took a document to scan into Word. It felt like I was being tortured. I could have just typed the information in the time it took to try and scan it.
Get Android
by Gldwgzylwicz on 2020/06/24 16:23
This app worked flawlessly on Android. Like a few of my goto apps, iOS versions get buggy. Office Lens images in iOS are lost when saved. It doesn’t matter which album you designate for saving - they are gone.
If it’s not perfect then it’s one star
by Farkyfark on 2020/06/22 23:11
This is a service that either works or doesn’t. You can’t have a transcription app that skips some info once in a while. It doesn’t transcribe some images even when the images are perfect, which means it’s only worth one or no stars.

Recent update ruined this app for me
by Dale Yeah 746289201537 on 2020/06/14 22:57
Whatever big update was done recently ruined this app. It used to be great. I have to manually delete each scan when I wan to start a new one. And now the app looks like it was meant for an old phone on my new iPhone. Big black space all all sides the the screen.
Was great
by Mccutchphil on 2020/06/08 04:03
This was a great app before the most recent update. Took it from being simple and reliable to being more complicated and less reliable. Hope they make it more simple and reliable with the next update. People do not need more features, they need reliability and simplicity.
Decent , but freezes
by Kimguinilinguini on 2020/06/07 23:40
A decent app , but it tends to freeze a lot which pushes you out of the app. This can get quite frustrating.
Not a great update
by pcmaker401 on 2020/06/06 22:45
I’m running on the iPhone XS and iOS 13.1.3. Past updates of the Office Lens has improved the weird UI issues such as selecting filters menus blocking the screen. But now I feel it has taken a step back. I use the app to take documents and always adjust the crop edges. I used to be able to zoom in and make the adjustments but now, no zoom. Only a small circle shows up and I can’t see the document edges. Also, the amount of space removed just for the button/menu is getting too large. Past iteration where the bottom half was transparent is much better.
Great scanning app
by Apprat0r on 2020/06/06 12:54
For documents/pictures/whiteboards. I’ve been using office lens for several years now and have been very happy with the flexibility and the accuracy. I’ve tried many scanning apps and stuck with office lens. I have given 5 stars, until the last update. The one thing that took a turn for the worse is the fact that I can’t adjust the borders with a zoomed in view. Previously I was able to pinch-zoom in while adjusting the borders so that I can see exactly where I’m making the border without losing text. With the latest update I’ve lost the ability and need to guess and hope I don’t lose any text. The auto recognition of borders has gotten better, but still is not accurate always. That’s when I want to use the zoom in. Hope the ability gets added back.
Crash
by Sylvio Pascolato on 2020/06/03 01:53
the app is closing after scanning and does not save the image, please take a look at what is going on.
latest version 2.37.2 removed zoom feature during crop
by wisbucky on 2020/06/02 22:02
I would rate MS Lens 5 stars, but they removed a useful feature in the latest version 2.37.2. You used to be able to pinch zoom during manual cropping. This was extremely useful because sometimes you need to do precise cropping. Please add the zoom during crop feature back!

I keep trying others and keep coming back to Office Lens
by LongStrangeGame on 2020/05/31 02:34
Not being a Microsoft fan I keep trying other scanning apps in hopes of shifting. For better or for worse, I download and use other apps for a little while, get fed up with their quirks, and reinstall Office Lens. It’s solid and they actually keep improving it (more than can be said for way too many apps). It’s become very smart about document borders and provides far more output options than most (into photos, pdf, mail, etc, etc). All in all, the most useful doc scanner app yet.
Mediocre, crashes every time
by calvinbrodice on 2020/05/29 15:44
Used this for years because it has some good features. Problems include frequent crashes during file save and lack of options and defaults for users.
Add option to scan to B/W 1
by Alexander Michel on 2020/05/29 05:14
This is ridiculous. By far the most sophisticated border detection tech of all scanning apps, but you don’t let me use black and white without selecting all the pages MANUALLY?!?!?!
PDFs no longer work
by jnwarp on 2020/05/27 15:21
I used to love this app, but scanning documents to PDF does not work anymore. I found this out the hard way when I tried to scan in my final exam for school. I had to ask the prof for extra time to go find a scanner instead. I trusted this app to work and it just let me down. This is a month later and the issue still has not been fixed. I'm sad to let it go, but it looks like I have no choice.
KISS
by EV-traveler on 2020/05/26 08:40
Keep it simple stupid. Microsoft seems to love software bloat, even after three decades. Their app is extremely useful, and I hope they don’t goof it up by adding more features that you have to work to ignore. It would be great if they worked on getting trapezoid pieces of paper to easily look rectilinear.
Can’t upload to OneDrive!
by Warthorius on 2020/05/25 13:25
This type of app should make a tedious, frustrating job easier. Office Lens makes it more tedious and more frustrating. Since first installing the app I was always on edge if I will be able to upload a document with dozens of pages. It randomly asks me to sign in again (even when I am already signed in to multiple Microsoft apps on the same device). Right now I am stuck in a loop where it prompts me to sign in every time I try to upload this document to One Drive, and this is it for me. I am not scanning another 10 pages if I am not sure that I will be able to save them anywhere as a pdf document. This is awfull.
I want to love this app but
by The Alpinist Frog on 2020/05/19 03:23
I want to love this app, but Evernote’s Scannable is just better at scanning. What makes Lens great is the integration with Office. I kinda hope Microsoft just buys Scannable.
Incredibly Unreliable Tool
by The frosty guy on 2020/05/13 06:41
If you are looking for a tool to help you crop pictures, then this should work fine, but past that it falls apart. For one, when used as a tool to submit files to other apps, which is especially relevant to a college student like myself, it has significant troubles. Often the system will repeatedly fail to submit files to the proper location, or even submit files to the wrong location entirely for seemingly no reason. This causes much confusion, especially when multiple files need submitting to multiple areas, and this is the tip of the iceberg with software issues. Honestly, you should expect more from a company as large as Microsoft.
Genuis Scan is much better
by Hypoponera on 2020/05/09 23:33
This app is quite clunky and seems outdated compared to other scanning apps available. Lacks important features like any kind of text enhancement.
Terrible update
by lwlarson on 2020/05/07 12:44
I used to love office lens, but the new update is terrible. I hate the manual crop feature that it now goes to automatically after I take a picture. And the text function is gone. I now have to save the picture to my files and then go in to my photos and text the picture or email it. It used to have the function to share to text or email apps, or save to photos. I’ll be looking for a new app.
Running into a Snag
by Diarrhea Madman on 2020/05/04 19:40
After installing the app on my iPhone, I did a test scan before scanning the page I wanted to edit using Word. Upon clicking on “done” I was prompted to choose where I’d like to save the file. I choose OneDrive. I was then prompted to sign into OneDrive and did so successfully. I also created a new folder to save my file to. So far so good. Next, when I clicked on “save” there was no response or acknowledgement of any kind-no movement! Not sure if anything took place, I decided to sign into my OneDrive account on my laptop and was happy to discover that the file was there. Thinking that I could live with the minor flaw, I proceeded to scan the actual page I needed to edit. That time, upon attempting to save the file to OneDrive, I get prompted repeatedly to sign into my Microsoft account. What seemed as a promising app initially now appears unusable. Seeing that the app has so many positive reviews, I am open to the issue being on my end but not sure what. I will uninstall and reinstall it to see if that fixes it.
Can’t email anymore
by Frankss74773828 on 2020/05/01 02:57
It is frustrating that you cannot email your scanned documents with the new update. I will be no longer using this app.
Microsoft Corporation Is Retarded
by M:E/M)O(R\Y on 2020/04/30 22:18
I don’t care what this is, the app. All I care about is hating on Microsoft. Maybe they don’t make things, but when something is made, they infect it with Microsoft and then make it crappy and stupid. I once had Minecraft on my PC. Always have owned it, until I wanted to play it. Then it told me to buy it, AGAIN, for 30 more dollars. Then I redone loaded the new Modern Warfare, it originally costed 100$ or 60$ or something like that. To me, that’s a lot of money, same with 30$. I’m only - what? Thirteen. I got onto the new Modern Warfare after having to reinstall it 3 times because I thought it was glitched, then it said I could only play the stupid game mode - Warzone. So if you want to kill Microsoft with me before it makes you re-buy all of your games, then join me, we must eliminate and terminate Microsoft. For the better.

Not a fan
by Tracer17! on 2020/04/27 19:02
I generally love Microsoft software. This app, however, is not very good. It takes too long to scan a simple single page document and it frequently failed to capture the entire page. Tried a couple times over the past year. Deleted a couple times.
Useless best as I can tell
by mccgsm on 2020/04/27 16:47
Trying to scan distinct paragraph on a page. Takes a picture. That’s it. Worthless for my purposes.
File Size Too Big
by tsimonds on 2020/04/20 19:36
I’ll see if I can find a setting, but Lens treats my PDF scans like they are photos. No. The app should recognize that I’m scanning documents. This is irritating. File size is important for multiple reasons—namely: email capacity and the fossil fuel emissions related to unnecessary file storage and movement. Just bc human beings can do something (like store endless amounts of data) doesn’t mean we want to
So confuzing
by Andgfneisijd on 2020/04/14 04:20
Trying to find wherever it saved to from another app is really hard. Trying to use it for school where they ask for the work from math tests within 10 minutes of finishing and it legit takes me like 20 minutes to try to submit my work just from trying to find where it was saved. Should NOT be this complicated.
Pictures get stuck transferring them.
by Mekaneck84 on 2020/04/12 20:50
I’m updating my review but staying with one star. There was an issue where the option to create a text box was disappearing but it has been resolved. The issue I still have, which is more concerning, is that some pictures get stuck in the “transferring” state when trying to save them to OneDrive. You’d expect this to be the most flawless option, since I’m keeping the image in the Microsoft ecosystem. But no, after taking a bunch of inspection photos and uploading them to my OneDrive, I go back to the office to find a few of the thumbnails still showing the “transferring” symbol. In this state you can’t view the picture or re-try. Force close the app, reboot the phone, nothing happens. I left them alone in the state for days, and nothing happened. The only option available was to delete the image. Do I call the customer back and ask them to tear apart their machine again so I can grab the pictures I need? I’m sure if I tell them the Microsoft software I was using is buggy, they’ll happily stop production and take their machine down again for me...

Works well for my college needs
by chloek200 on 2020/04/07 20:46
I have transitioned to online school this quarter and one of my classes needs daily homework and notes turned in in PDF form. I can easily take a picture of my page and export as a PDF file to my onedrive account I already have for school. Since it is automatically on my computer turning in the assignments is then super easy. Also, I trust this app more than the other ones which seem pretty sketchy to me and haven’t worked well for me in the past. Overall, it works well for this weird transition to online and does exactly what I need it to do.

Used to be awesome
by oc3068 on 2020/02/23 21:29
Not anymore after iOS 13 update and Microsoft hasn’t made the changes necessary to retain the expected UX. 1. Something about views displaying modally is causing problems. Now after I email a document, the last captured document is still shown on screen. Closing and opening the app doesn’t clear it. Hitting done again crashes the app. 2. Half of the time when I try to manually crop the image, the user defined edges just wouldn’t save.
Scans Always Angled
by OffbeatChip9 on 2020/02/23 20:34

Fantastic scanning capabilities
by MarkInPA on 2020/02/13 21:12
I’ve tried a lot of different ones.... but this one is #1 by far. You can scan a whiteboard, document, screen at almost any angle and it corrects it. Plus the text in the scan is OCR and searchable. Integration with OneNote makes it a champ. I rarely rate anything 5 star. This one clearly deserves it.

Latest version got too clunky
by gnida_rada on 2020/01/22 22:22
The initial release did one thing and did it very well: take a photo of a whiteboard or paper and clean it up. I used it daily. Newee version added a bunch if features i dont care and messed up the experience of scanning things. now it takes more steps from me and does not work as well. So Ioved back ro plain Camera app. Sadly it works better and does not make me do unnesessary taps.
Useless- deserves zero stars
by ViolentBee on 2020/01/22 01:20
Crashes immediately upon opening. Was really looking forward to using this app. Wasted tons of time searching for a fix on Microsoft forums and tried EVERYTHING and ultimately wound up uninstalling and signing out of every Microsoft app, software and deleting from every device I own then started over fresh. Twice I thought I was getting somewhere by I got it to stay open and tried snapping a business card for upload. Got as far as clicking “done” after the picture was taken, then it was the eternal spinning wheel of death. What a piece of garbage!!
Doesn’t save to OneDrive
by jobers26 on 2020/01/20 18:37
This app worked great until the end of the summer. Suddenly, I’m unable to save anything to OneDrive. As a teacher, this was one of the convenient features. I could be anywhere and upload something I had taken a picture of using Lens. What’s the deal?!?
Reducing rating to 3 stars - shows photo album by default
by YorkCounty on 2020/01/07 12:52
I had this rated as a 5 star app for years. The latest version displays ones pictures from photos when scanning. In a business setting this is not appropriate; my pictures from a ski trip should not be visible to those standing behind me as I scan a whiteboard. Further, as near as I can tell, this adds little benefit to the usage of the app. When this gets changed I will reconsider my rating. It is now hard to recommend the app.
Update broke the app
by Wheels0234 on 2019/12/31 14:52
Taking a photo and uploading to OneDrive. One the photo is uploaded, you select the camera again, it take you to the photo you just uploaded. If you discard the photo it will allow you to take a photo, but then freezes. Please fix this. I use this app all the time for recording Microsoft COAs for compliance reasons....

UX needs a serious overhaul
by Greg P. on 2019/12/22 23:05
I really only use this for integration with OneDrive. That said, the UI needs a serious overhaul. It doesn’t conform to Fluent design, doesn’t make use of a notch-type display, and is simply confusing

by pabiwow on 2019/12/20 20:34

Cropping
by Mikekscholz on 2019/12/19 00:13
The only thing I would love to see done differently is the point selection in the cropping tool. You should make it so the touch points extend out beyond the little white circles on the outside of the bounding box so you dont have to touch the circle itself, which covers up what you’re trying to line up with your fingertip. Besides that, I love it and its a part of my every day workflow.
Time saver!

Worked perfectly for creating pdf documents Was in a time crunch to send legal documents in pdf. Simply took a pic of each page and sent as a pdf. Worked well for me!

Crashes during save
by Wyldoxz on 2019/12/10 15:49
It would be great if it actually saved the documents I scan. But it crashes every time I try to save--even to OneDrive. And then I lose everything I've scanned when I reopen the app. I'm not entirely sure what the point is of a scanning app that doesn't save scans?
Doesn’t function with Outlook contacts
by Manu-Tej on 2019/12/05 20:00
To be very useful for business use, this app needs to allow you to import scanned business cards directly into you outlook contacts from your iPhone. Currently you have to load them to OneNote, then open the file up on you pc to load the contact into your outlook contacts.
Great pictures, sketchy OCR
by GirlgeekIT on 2019/12/03 00:10
Pictures with LENS are always clearer than when standard pictures with the iPhone camera. OCR, not so great. Doesn’t retain format at all and reverts perfectly written letters to gibberish.
Works!
by Madilynn Grace on 2019/12/02 01:16
I actually really enjoy this app. It does what I need it to. I used it so I wouldn’t have to retype my English paper. Life saver! However, it would be better if I could take multiple photos and send them at the same time to one place instead of individually.
Microsoft Math Integration
by Bugani4 on 2019/12/01 18:02
This app would be an easy 5 stars if there was an export to MS Math Solver feature. Pleas add this, and you will get an easy 5 stars.
Issue with Work account
by EnzorX on 2019/11/27 20:22
This is a great app! Great for quickly turning paper digital information. However, we can no longer use Immersive Reader with our work accounts. You have to create a Microsoft account for the function to work. Please restore this feature!
Faulty
by Joeakuaku on 2019/11/25 15:14
After trying to export to my personal onedrive instead of school one, it has seemingly stopped exporting to either of them. The only things I can seem to export to are onenote (which I do not use) and my on-device photo library. Also, lacks support for 2018 ipad pro screen size, despite multiple updates since.
Just takes pictures? Does not OCR
by aaronphughes on 2019/11/21 21:44
Maybe it only converts the image to text if you share to Microsoft office? I dont have that installed. So this app is useless.

Won’t Open PDFs Anymore
by VeeSable on 2019/11/12 16:03
This app used to be great. Now it doesn’t work. When I scan to PDF it won’t allow me to click on the file to open it anymore. The PDF cannot be accessed by any other means either. I’m running iOS 13.1.3 on an iPhone 6S. This used to be a great app I relied on. When you got to “get app support” it leads you to a directory of help topic for every Microsoft product except this one. What the heck?!!
Utterly useless
by CableX1 on 2019/11/11 19:16
Downloaded to use the OCR capabilities. No explanation how to use them seems to be available anywhere in the app. I assume you have to save it to Word...which A-HA!!! I can’t do unless I have or create a Microsoft account. I have an account that I used for Skype, but the app won’t take it...maybe it’s not the right account. Dunno, don’t care. So I create a new Microsoft account, but it still won’t take. Created and verified the account, but I go to add it to the connected accounts section, it never adds...just takes me back to the connected accounts section. About typical for a Microsoft product...works, but the features you really want to use...don’t...and cuz some other unnecessary, idiot feature doesn’t work.

Works but export UX is pretty horrible
by domoritz on 2019/11/11 06:01
The export process is super painful. Why can’t I simply add a file to iCloud? Or quickly share via airdrop? The export dialog is also broken in dark mode.
My go to scanner app
by MJR72 on 2019/11/11 04:41
Works well, good integration with One Drive. One thing and the app would be perfect... Please stop trying to guess which way is up! Autorotate is wrong at least half the time. Just leave them how I take them or make autorotate an option I can turn off. Thanks for the great app!

Truly Wretched
by BrooklynChris on 2019/11/03 21:11
- one by one by one by one ... - No batch processing. - No multi- image support. - Images from camera roll with valid text get arbitrarily auto-cropped, even in document mode, losing half the content. - What a mess.
Can’t upload to OneDrive
by Ariel Christy on 2019/11/01 00:22
Chose to upload to onedrive. Couldn’t find it anywhere on my onedrive. There’s no way in the app for me to browse my onedrive folder and chose which subfolder to save my file. It just give one option “upload to one drive” and ive been searching everywhere can’t find the file. So annoying. Need to improve the user experience.
Was the greatest, no filters in 2.30.1
by Jester4212 on 2019/10/31 14:15
This app was perfect! In version 2.30.1 the ability to apply filters to your scans was removed. Now it’s functionality is useless. Please return the filters!
Almost perfect
by Easywater on 2017/10/17 19:46
Everything works well enough for daily uses. I use it to scan and store most paper notes, receipts, documents, magazine clips... Most of the times the app detects the boundaries of the document and automatically crops the scanned image to remove unwanted background. However, sometimes when the contrast between the background and the document is not high enough and/or the light level is low, the app cannot tell where the boundaries are and keeps switching around and snaps on to the wrong boundary lines. I try to move & adjust the phone to different angles & positions to get the app to snap on the correct boundaries but before I can hit the button it switches away to the wrong ones again. If it cannot determine where the correct boundaries are then it should just pick one and allow the user to cycle through the options until he/she finds the correct one. Miscrosoft should add the annotate option after the picture is taken to hi-lite, circle, underline or add a quick note to the scanned image.
I’ll keep using my old scanner app
by DonnaFlorida5 on 2018/09/16 16:24
I received a great promo for Lens because I have an office subscription. It made me want to love Lens. But Lens is lacking features that I use all the time when scanning documents. The biggest problem is that it lacks important editing features, such as the ability to change a color document to B/W, and the ability to lighten or darken a document. Second, when I input images from my device (camera roll) into Lens, I must do it one page at a time. I am used to being able to select a number of images at once. (I use that scanner feature frequently to combine PDFs. (I convert the PDFs to images, and then bring the images (PDF pages) into my scanner app and make a new PDF.) Lastly, my old app will capture a page as soon as it detects the edges, without my having to touch the shutter button, but Lens doesn’t. That feature makes it easier to hold the device while scanning and it allows me to scan multiple pages quickly. Lens might offer new functionality for people who want to scan whiteboards. I don’t know and I don’t need that ability. For those of us who deal heavily with documents, Lens needs to step up its game. I can already easily send scans to one note (as an image or a pdf) so switching to Lens would not help me. I will hold off using Lens for now.
This app is horrible
by ColePar on 2019/03/22 11:17
Upon initial installation, this app was my lifeline for college assignments but the more I used it the less functional it became. It started without being able to connect to my OneDrive, and then losing camera functionality altogether and now it won’t even run when I try to start it. Absolutely disappointed with the app at this point EDIT: I got a developer response so this is my reply, I’m on iPhone 6s Plus on the latest OS. (Not sure what the number is specifically). I have had camera issues in the past so I don’t believe it is your app not being able to open my camera. But when the app does work, it won’t save any PDFs to my one drive. Even if I uninstall and reinstall. Also even when it doesn’t open my camera, I still have the work around of going through to my camera library, but ever since the last update, the app won’t process me clicking the icons and takes forever to even open it. I’ve never had issues with device operation other than the camera being buggy but all my other apps work fine with no lag whatsoever
It Works
by Xctual on 2017/08/26 15:03
I was actually impressed by this app. I usually use my normal camera to take notes for class, but this app enhances that. The most impressive thing I noticed about this app is how you can easily take a photo from the sides and it straightens it out with no image issues whatsoever. A minor issue I did notice however is that the user would have to manually turn off the Auto setting for the flash for every picture they wish to take. While this might be helpful for lighting in photos, sometimes in certain situations (such as a dark classroom) the flash would not be appreciated by others and forgetting to turn it off might be a little embarrassing. Other than that, this app seems very well made and works as directed. Five stars from me.
Not what it used to be
by TMF-Mac on 2018/09/27 13:55
This has been my go-to app for some time now, and I ever since I began using it, I became a huge fan and have gotten many friends and colleagues hooked on this app. It used to be a 5-star app, but over the past few months it has become hit or miss on scanning documents. When in document scan mode, you visually see it detect all the edges properly; however, when you snap the image oftentimes it now cuts off a significant portion! What gives? I have deleted and reloaded the app, updated iOS, reviewed all settings, and it continues to happen. Previously this worked like magic. I didn't have to be careful of the angle or anything. I could quickly scan any document without fuss and it worked all the time. Sadly it's now less than 50/50 on capturing the entire document (despite it showing the correct edges onscreen). I am truly sad.
Was Great... Once
by Left Angle on 2019/05/31 14:10
Maybe it’s because my ancient 3 year old iPhone SE updates are interfering; maybe it’s because Microsoft’s updates are making bad things happen, but this once perfect app is no longer so wonderful. The orange outline disappears the moment the shutter button is pressed and the result is haphazard at best. The image captured may be what the entire viewfinder was showing, a portion of what was outlined the split second before the shot was taken or if you’re lucky, you got what you expected. It now takes at least 3 or 4 tries to make a usable image and more than once, I’ve discovered too late that an image I thought had covered the entire document was in fact, cut off at some random line of text. Time for me to start seeking another app. 2 stars because it kinda works... if you’re patient, willing to make several attempts and stay aware.
Receipts and More!
by Storm's Other Son on 2017/09/04 01:23
Of the all the receipts I have already scanned and are still finding, although I no longer work where I used to, as far as their reimbursable policy goes, whether the supplies that, were needed I did not put in for, end up being a post employment donation to write off next year come tax time or they cut me a check, this application is so awesome! Even more awesome is the fact that it is not only for receipts and has different settings for documents, business cards and others! Impressed - does not do this awesome app justice. Surprised by this additional excellence from Microsoft - not in the least! Thank you!
MUST ADD - Import Business Card Scans directly to Outlook
by Bors de Ganis on 2017/11/30 19:42
App works great for scanning documents, but for those of us who have a stack of business cards that we want to scan to Outlook contacts, the process is way too complicated. You can scan the business card to OneNote only and in order to then get it to Outlook you must get to a PC, download the scanned card from OneNote (App or Online) to the PC as a .vcf, then open Outlook and import as a separate file. COME ON MICROSOFT!!!!! Now that Office 365 supposedly allows these office apps to work with each other as never before; it seems being able to scan, save, and import from one Microsoft app to another should be much easier. This app should remove my need to purchase a third-party piece of scanning hardware in order to get business cards into Outlook.
Great, but serious obstacles...
by Fatheroftheyear on 2018/12/02 20:08
This app was a lifesaver for expense receipts when I first started using it a couple years ago. I still use it, but I have 2 major complaints: 1) Using it on an iPhone, the app does not stay logged into my Microsoft account, so almost every time I scan something, I have to retype my password to send to OneNote or OneDrive 2) Saving as PDF or to files is not easily accessible The above to problems make me look for a new app every month or so, but it still solves my needs better than others. I love how easily I captures docs for work and home. I just get annoyed at the extra steps I need to take because they can’t solve the login issues
One of my Primary Apps
by Zullnight on 2018/02/20 13:26
This app is fantastic, use it all the time. Quick, simple, and gives quality results ever time. Even when documents are at an angle and lighting is not what it should be you still get a good result and perspective corrected. The interface for saving, could be improved, bit confusing to get use to and we’re it is going to be saved. But once learnt it is fine and taking quick scans to default location is simple. Changing names latter, is ok but could be improved UI wise Still it is very much a 5 star app!!
What happened?! It was great!!
by Littlebugs on 2018/09/14 22:34
This app was a life saver when for a whole month intensive course of sight translation from English to Spanish and my prof never gave me a heads up on what text pages to adapt for my print learning disabilities!! I needed to have OCR STAT! Then I was able to easily enlarge the text and spaces between the lines and more!! If it wasn’t down I lost the whole class period of note taking, scribbling in key legal and medical terms that can’t be done with Microsoft nor G translate! Did mention it was a 4 week class vs 16 weeks!? I went to use it just now, with a text book page of grammar, the Immersive Reading feature distorts the text, and removes bold print of words. PLEASE please help! And I will happily change my stars and review. I am an adult with print and related dyslexia issues.
Where the Heck is Local Storage?
by George man22 on 2018/09/25 18:10
Update: As promised, I’m updating to 5 stars since magically the ability to delete local scans mysteriously appeared. Thank you. I like this app. But please tell me what I’m missing, since these questions appear simple and I could not find the answers anywhere. I save scans to pdf and specify iPhone local storage. Then I send to Dropbox. When I’m done, there does not appear to be a way to delete the PDFs in the app, short of deleting the app and reinstalling. Yes - I tried holding, and swiping every which way. As for where on the iPhone these scans are stored locally, no one seems to know. I’ve looked in Photos, Files and every other location and can’t find where they are stored. This seems a simple question, but Googling this I find others are similarly frustrated. Am I missing some obvious usage paradigm? I’d give this five stars if I could just delete scans from the app.
Cannot handle Impressionism/Pointillism
by [iPapi] on 2018/09/26 23:58
Several museums, multiple failures. Can’t render fine brushstrokes or subtle detail of many impressionist paintings (driven crazy by Monet) taken at museums where it’s allowed. Pointillism will come out looking like random clusters of dots separated by big white areas. End up using the regular camera for these. Works fine for others, although the colors tend to look too bright and more exaggeratedly gaudy than in reality. Do not like how it cuts off parts of picture frames willy nilly. If there are more than one flyers posted, it can’t seem to allow you to pick just one to image. Gets confused. This app is nice when it works, but it could use a lot of refinement.
Really great
by HarutReview on 2017/09/07 18:35
I rely on this app exclusively for PDF conversion and OCR capabilities together with my OneDrive account.... One big functionality missing is ability to choose destination folder when uploading this to cloud and optionally choosing a more descriptive file name... Alternatively or in addition to choosing destination folder it would be nice to be able to open whatever folder the file has been uploaded to in the native OneDrive app to be able to rename the file or move or copy it to another folder.
Used to be perfect...
by VirtualGus on 2018/10/03 12:45
Office Lens has been one of my favorite apps for a long time. I use it mainly for whiteboard pictures and scan documents and receipts. It worked flawlessly for a long time. I can’t understand why break something that works great? One of the many updates all of a sudden makes Lens to not auto-detect the correct doc size anymore. 90% of the times it crops it wrong. This used to work perfect everyday. I’ve tried of course with different backgrounds and light conditions and angles so I’m convinced it’s something in the app. Still a great app but sad to see an app like this to go down from amazing to ok.

Makes my phone worth more to me
by Jim (NHHacker) on 2019/05/24 18:31
If you use Microsoft-*anything (at work and/or at home) this is a must have utility. Capture everything from receipts to whiteboards. It squares up the images. It makes getting the image (or even multi-page pdf formatted results) to your OneDrive-connected devices so easy you might not realize it's already done. I use this app almost daily as a matter of habit. My phone would be so much less without it.
Switched from CamCard
by cacofonix1 on 2018/01/21 21:55
After I found that my over 200 scanned cards could not be recovered from CamCard lite as it is no longer supported by iOS 11 and that the only option is to switch to CamCard business (which did not transfer them over also), I started searching for an alternative. I no longer wanted the Business Card images to be trapped inside the software not knowing when its author would drop support. After trying out over 6 competing apps, finally settled for this combo of Office Lens/OneNote Areas needing improvement: 1. If one selects the ‘+’ to add a second page and then changes ones mind there is no way to back out short of closing the app 2. There should be an option to change picture resolution 3.
Terrific

I am an active musician in University and music major. As part of my requirements I have to scan my music and give it to an accompanist to Olay in my lessons. This app is a life saver one of the best I have found on the App Store. I have tried about 3-4 different types and this app amongst the 4 always seems to be the best. I really like how it focuses and lines your page up for you that you are pointing at. Great app for scanning and doing other things with as well.
Fantastic
by Scolecite on 2018/01/11 16:04
I’ve been scanning old documents that are far too thin to put through an automated feed scanner. The results are excellent. Many of the documents are improved tremendously by scanning with this app. The auto crop works well most of the time so it’s pretty easy to get through many documents. It’s much faster than having to scan each of these documents individually on a typical all in one fax-printer-scanner.
Incredibly useful
by B_Kit on 2017/08/29 04:47
I originally found this while installing other MS Office related apps, and I downloaded this out of curiosity. It was quickly apparent how useful the app could be for me. Initially, I used it to photo-document whiteboard notes & such, and I love how it automatically crops and skews the image to make it more readable. Now I frequently use it for photos and documents, and the auto cropping features save a lot of time and energy.
Dysfunctional
by o l i v e on 2019/05/03 17:37
I used to find this app useful, but it has stopped working entirely for me. When I try to convert an image to a word doc, it asks me to log in -> I put in my email and password -> I get sent back to the page asking what I’d like to convert my photo into. I select Word -> It asks me to log in. I’m stuck in this impossible loop because the app doesn’t allow me to do something as simple as log in. I tried making a new account and couldn’t log into that one either. I tried going into my settings, where there is different log in option, and that one didn’t work either. Please fix your most basic function.
Extremely useful for conferences and work
by transposition on 2017/09/28 14:37
I use this on an almost daily basis, recording whiteboards at work. More than that, I have found it essential for preserving slides at conferences without the bad angles & surrounding cruft. Since slides are a large part of my use, if the team were to add an optimization for that it would make it even better. Right now, I flip between “document” and “whiteboard” to find the best image.
The best scanning app I have ever used!
by PsychoGradStudent on 2018/01/02 11:03
This app is, by far, THE BEST app I have tried for scanning documents! And the seamless integration into OneNote is outstanding. I have not used it for pictures yet, but I am very eager to try it. If I had just one wish for this app, and I am sure it’s a tall order, it would be to integrate handwriting-to-text conversion into the app. Or, at the very least, marking and searching among scanned handwritten notes.
Great App
by Corey962 on 2017/09/26 19:54
When you import an image to OneNote it will actually allow you to search OneNote for any legible word that is on the image. Hugely beneficial! Only tip to developers: if you first make an image into a PDF , and then try to send to OneNote, it doesn't work. Would be great to have this ability as this should work seamlessly within the MSFT office environment. Also- PC version doesn't sync with mobile version??
Good start, but middle of the pack
by Tap Fan 99 on 2018/11/24 17:26
The integration into Microsoft family is great. But he app is average at best. Is crashes with some regularity. Documents get stuck unable to upload, and when the retry also fails, then just sit there in my files...no way to delete or retry upload. Lacks features to edit docs, add pages, or even save documents to be worked on later. It is ok overall, but needs to catch up to the other much more complete scanner apps available for iOS.
Great app - one suggestion
by Cabaround on 2018/07/08 15:42
Love the app and use it frequently. I like that you can capture at an angle and it straightens perfectly. The only improvement I would suggest is when you go to define the borders, make it so you can drag the corners without having to put your finger directly on the handle. Its hard to see around my fat fingers sometimes to line it up.
Cropping
by Mikekscholz on 2019/12/19 00:13
The only thing I would love to see done differently is the point selection in the cropping tool. You should make it so the touch points extend out beyond the little white circles on the outside of the bounding box so you dont have to touch the circle itself, which covers up what you’re trying to line up with your fingertip. Besides that, I love it and its a part of my every day workflow.
Update has ruined the workflow
by AngHP on 2018/08/21 22:17
My family uses this to scan and store everything from bills and receipts to pictures. Previous versions included a close button at the end of the document filing sequence. The newest version has eliminated this critical button enticing the user who does not have additional docs to select the back arrow. Choosing the back arrow results in duplicate copies. The only way out of this loop (after cussing over thw duplicates) is the home button- which is not intuitive. Please bring closure to this workflow and I will change my rating to a 4 star one.
Very good app- where is the web-version
by hudsonwolf on 2018/03/28 13:22
This app is really great for keeping track of receipts. I love it. Small improvement would be to have the ability to select where the file output goes. Right now I have to manually sort into folders. Also nice would be a web version. I could use my camera on the PC or Mac to take images or run OCR.
Awesome Scan Tool
by Deadheaddeejay on 2017/08/22 23:06
Office Lens has been my go to scan app for years. The automatic cropping and image cleanup options are better than dozens of other products claiming to have all the same features. You just can't beat the OneDrive syncing which instantaneously makes scans available on another device, i.e. Desktop computer.
Outstanding App
by PatrickLance9790 on 2017/08/08 05:05
Nowadays where everything is almost digital, this app is explicably useful in converting a lot of my documents into digital files instantly without the use of a scanner. Files are sharp and clean quality especially with good lighting. Love the whiteboard style for my notes. Kudos to whomever designed this Software's algorithm🙌🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Now we can change document name!
by ctf69 on 2017/10/05 17:51
Was so frustrated before because of the generic name. But now I see we can change titles/document name. Makes this so much better. I take photos of business receipts. Doesn't clog up my photos on phone with "fake" photos - allows me to save receipt to OneDrive for later entry into Quickbooks. Awesome timesaver.
It used to work perfectly
by RDLRIO on 2018/02/19 16:27
I don’t know what exactly was changed with the latest updates but please change it back to what it used to be. The page recognition is super slow and lags so if you move the camera, you almost have to force it do it again. Also after scanning the pages, they all have different sizes when saving. Lastly, it used to be able to see the pages that were scanned before saving and that’s gone also.
Super handy and easy
by AndrewHaglund on 2018/02/22 03:58
The latest updates have improved the app’s usability greatly. The image correction used to be really good, but the overall app pretty clunky. Now it’s smooth sailing. Highly recommend this app to anyone who take pictures of whiteboards, business cards, documents etc. and more. Thanks for the great app Microsoft!
Meh. So ...meh :-(
by Joehv on 2018/09/15 03:44
I mean this would have been great 5 years ago, but now it is positively amateurish. There are way better scanning applications out there. I’ve used a few. This doesn’t come close to the advanced features available in Scanbot for instance. I mean, if you have the office 365 subscription and you don’t want to pay for anything else I guess it’ll do the job - not very well, but it’s free. If you want quality stuff, look elsewhere. Come on Microsoft, you can do better than this. Especially for your clients who pay for the 365 service

WAS a 5 star, now a junk!
by novamico on 2020/07/17 16:05

I’m sure if I tell them the Microsoft software I was using is buggy, they’ll happily stop production and take their machine down again for me...

by chloek200 on 2020/04/07 20:46
I have transitioned to online school this quarter and one of my classes needs daily homework and notes turned in in PDF form.
Forces me to login to one drive every time
by DanieO on 2020/03/29 06:05
Every time I try to upload something to one drive it forces me to log in every time despite already linking my account. Ruins an otherwise perfectly good app
Used to be great
by MLaurab on 2020/03/26 16:34
Pdf option is gone??? Is it because of dark mode?? Edit: I have an iphone XS running iOS 13.4. The pdf option is gone
Possibly scam
by Bambibambibambibambibambi on 2020/03/18 04:01
I downloaded the app and just a few minutes later it kicked me out and every time I tried to go back in it would kick me out again so I deleted the app possibly a virus of some sort don’t download
Great APP
by Alcottt on 2020/03/11 00:41
From the first item I scanned, I knew this would be a game changer for me. I have been using this for a couple years now and never had an issue.
Sub par app thats keeps crashing
by Kasbati on 2020/03/10 18:30
Super disappointed, is this the best microsoft can do?
Current version is broken
by NeslyQuik on 2020/02/28 18:40
Most recent version of the app (since feb 28 2020) is completely broken and crashes upon opening. Attempted reinstalling, clearing cache, all to no avail
Scans Always Angled
by OffbeatChip9 on 2020/02/23 20:34
Every scan I take shows up perfect in the preview. Then when I look at the exported pdf it shows up skewed to the side and cut off. Same pages every time out of the 7 one or two will be messed up. Getting sick of it.
Won’t load to one drive
by sjs0965 on 2020/02/23 18:27
When I scan from office lens, I can no longer load to one drive. I get message unable to upload. Really? Typical Microsoft.
NOT As Clean!!!
by HirsuteJim on 2020/02/18 12:35
With the latest update, I am now seeing a row of pictures of all my previous scans … IN THE MIDDLE OF DISPLAY, WHILE TRYING TO TAKE A NEW SCAN⁉️⁉️⁉️ WHY???? This new “feature”… ⦁ Is VERY Distracting ⦁ BLOCKS the view of my current subject ⦁ Is showing SENSITIVE Client Info to my current client ⦁ SERVES NO PURPOSE‼️ PLEASE allow one to TURN OFF this display row!!! My Previous Review Title: Clean & Simple My Previous Review: Does it's single task very well.
Unusable latest version
by Mighty iTuner on 2020/02/12 00:34
I have been using Office lens for a very long time. The latest version is completely unusable. Can’t scan and create pdf documents anymore. What happened?????
Best free scanner app
by R836151829 on 2020/02/11 20:28
This app works very well and provides a reliable way to digitize paper receipts and make PDFs.
Great App
by Wiesiu33 on 2020/01/28 23:47
I don’t understand why so many negative comments. I use this app all the time and I have no problems. The app works just fine for me.
The only PDF Scanner that you’ll ever need
by DJ Rizalph on 2020/01/28 05:51
Don’t waste your time and money on other scanner apps. Trust me
Latest version got too clunky
by gnida_rada on 2020/01/22 22:22
The initial release did one thing and did it very well: take a photo of a whiteboard or paper and clean it up.
Not Consistent
by Roznothappy on 2019/12/27 16:15
Does not convert to word consistently.
It was better before
by неко трећи on 2019/12/24 18:26
Taking and managing photos is good, but saving them in form of pdf is painful. Half of the time I have to wait a lot, and it fails to save. Also, if i am managing my files, or just looking at them, why the hell is my camera running in background?! It drains battery and has no purpose at all. Please change it.
UX needs a serious overhaul
by Greg P. on 2019/12/22 23:05
I really only use this for integration with OneDrive. That said, the UI needs a serious overhaul. It doesn’t conform to Fluent design, doesn’t make use of a notch-type display, and is simply confusing
Gets hung up transferring files to OneNote
by pabiwow on 2019/12/20 20:34
I got this app specifically to scan notes to OneNote. It doesn’t do that—I tried a few, and they just got stuck, spinning in”transferring” mode for hours. So, it is useless to me.
The absolutely best!
by Ham30_36 on 2019/12/20 17:08
Best app for scanning, hands down.
Cropping
by Mikekscholz on 2019/12/19 00:13
The only thing I would love to see done differently is the point selection in the cropping tool. You should make it so the touch points extend out beyond the little white circles on the outside of the bounding box so you dont have to touch the circle itself, which covers up what you’re trying to line up with your fingertip. Besides that, I love it and its a part of my every day workflow.
Time saver!
by jimsocal on 2019/12/17 19:22
Worked perfectly for creating pdf documents Was in a time crunch to send legal documents in pdf. Simply took a pic of each page and sent as a pdf. Worked well for me!
Doesn’t work
by rbrutoniii on 2019/12/16 22:15
Updates broke it. Auto closes after 5 seconds now.

Doesn’t work with MFA
by beanie144 on 2019/11/11 13:51
I can’t add my work account that requires mfa when I’m using the Authenticator App
App Crashes on iPhone 11 Pro

Terrific
by Daniel Schlegel on 2017/11/26 18:23
I am an active musician in University and music major.
Fantastic
by Scolecite on 2018/01/11 16:04
I’ve been scanning old documents that are far too thin to put through an automated feed scanner. The results are excellent. Many of the documents are improved tremendously by scanning with this app. The auto crop works well most of the time so it’s pretty easy to get through many documents. It’s much faster than having to scan each of these documents individually on a typical all in one fax-printer-scanner.
