The app is awful. Design is awkward and implementation is sloppy at best. It violates all sorts of App Store rules, too. Even though you can pay via iTunes, this app requires you to create an HBO account so they can track your purchase and web browsing habits. This is against all of Apple’s rules, but you know—it’s a big company so the rules don’t apply to HBO. Love the tv. Hate these entitled low IQ developers. Making a good app is not difficult if you have good people. Fire the tech and design leads.

I’m 8 feet away from my WiFi, in the same room, direct line of sight. Hulu and Netflix are doing just fine, but this app has yet to load any movie or tv show episode. I’ve tried streaming multiple videos to no avail. I even closed all the apps, disconnected WiFi, and restarted my iPad, set it all back up and tried again, and my iPad timed itself out (10 minutes) and locked/went to sleep with the three little blue dots flashing. Hopeless.

I forgot my pin. The App will send you an email with a link to reset it. The link works. However, it forces me to enter a “code you see on your TV“. What TV? I subscribe to the Hulu live streaming service and have no TV subscription and don’t use the TV! I watch on the phone. This makes it impossible to reset.

Signed up for 7day free trail on 2/4 and was confirmed that my free trail would end 2/11 through email. On 2/11 I sign on to my account to cancel my free trail before my card is charged and come to find that they already charged my card! When I called customer service they tell me that my free trail ended on 2/10 (I have the emails to prove the trail ended 2/11) and that there is nothing they can do as they have STRICT NO REFUND policy. Horrible customer service tricking you w terms and conditions.

App is not optimized for iPad Pro 11”. The app does not fit the screen. Keyboard shortcuts on the smart case do not work. Worst of all, the app does not allow downloads for offline viewing. I primarily use Netflix while flying on planes, so the lack of this feature almost makes the app and service useless to me.

I just cancelled my subscription. Will possibly subscribe through Amazon Prime because at least their app is good. This is as much on Apple as it is on HBO. Why doesn’t the app utilize the whole screen on my iPad Pro? Apple, stop approving updates until they at least support your newest devices. The most expensive streaming network and an embarrassingly bad app.

You have to go on a computer to unsubscribe, otherwise it just takes you back to this raggedy app. This is the most annoying mess I have ever had to deal with in my life, I regret even signing up for the free trial. No way in hell I’m paying $14 a month for this trash. Y’all are not that special to be THIS inconvenient. Oh and I just read the reviews! I BETTER not be charged after I already canceled this subscription, and don’t even hit me with that “you must cancel via your provider you subscribed with” because first of all that doesn’t even make sense, second of all I already checked apple and hbo isn’t even in my list of subscriptions. This app is not as good as it should be! If your use to Netflix or just about any other streaming app, you’ll find yourself frustrated having to open and close the app just to watch a show or movie. I find myself counting the seconds it takes to load while fast forwarding thru previews or recaps and trying to figure out wether it’s worth it to just sit and watch the same preview for the 20th time. It’s annoying that I tried rewinding 10 seconds and it took so long to load my phone locked due to non activity. All in all I appreciate HBO content but to pay the price this app costs and for something so simple as a 10 second rewind taking over half a minute to load and then open and close the app over 3 times, sort of makes u wonder what your paying for?

Unlike the nearly perfect to workable cellular streaming experience offered by most of this app's competitors, the HBO app regularly stalls out, buffering forever. It makes streaming over cellular impossible except in perfect conditions. This app often doesn't even stream well on WiFi.

After a couple of days I really didn’t like how everything was, so I cancelled my subscription and then days later HBO charged me $15. I canceled my free trial and now they are charging me. What the hell HBO! I want a refund HBO, I didn’t want to continue using this app.

2/3/19- i had this service for 2 months now but i just canceled my HBOnow subscription thru the amazon Fire tv store. Reason: This Hbo app is awful. 1. I have Fios 4k speed and the video streaming still encounters lag sometimes! 2. You cant download content unto ur phone or ipad hbo apps to watch off wifi! Thats crazy! Every streaming service offers offline viewing but Hbo, which is more expensive then the other streaming services, offers NO offline viewing??? ARE YOU SERIOUS? 3. The app is not user friendly. You cant set up profiles for different house hold members. 4. All the other terrible reviews about this app on the app-store i agree with. Hbo should be ashamed of themselves and i hope amazon and Netflix put them out of their misery.

Probably one of the best apps in terms of quality vs all other streaming apps. I don't take that away. But I take two stars off because of being slow to add the latest and greatest features. One star for not optimizing for the new iPad Pro (really HBO? Your app looks like 4 years old this way) and no 4K/HDR. Bring this and I'll change (but please, be faster).

While HBO continues to have some of the best original content and a well curated collection of movies, the quality of the actual streaming absolutely ruins their product. Every minute or two, whatever I am watching will freeze and buffer for a couple of seconds, sometimes up to a minute or two. Anyone who has watched and enjoyed film or television in their lives knows how this completely ruins the atmosphere and mood of a good show. We have tried every troubleshoot that HBO offered, but nothing works. I have all top end equipment as this is the area of my life that I like to splurge, and my modem/router is connected to the TV with a hard wire. There is no excuse for this, only the fact that their servers are inadequate. Once Game of Thrones ends this year, we will cancel our subscription and switch back to buying DVDs.

Crashes on iPad relentlessly. Also, there is no landscape (long width) menu, so you're constantly turning your device when switching from video to selection menu and back. Not the quality you'd expect from a giant like HBO. This hunk of digital junk needs to be overhauled, or rewritten from the ground up.

This app is a nightmare. Currently have spent 30 minutes trying to watch one episode of game of thrones on my TV before bed with no luck. I’m subscribed through iTunes with my Apple ID email (the same one I used to sign up with HBO now). Every time I log in on my PS4, I enter the TV code on the website, sign in, and it tells me I don’t have a subscription and wants me to sign up for another one (even though I’m already PAYING for one). It won’t let me watch any shows or movies and keeps prompting me to subscribe. It’s ridiculous how unintuitive this whole system is. All I wanted to do was relax in bed and watch a show but it’s like dealing with a scam. Waste of my night and I will not be renewing my HBO Now subscription once my first week trial expires.
Can’t stop auto play

This app has the most aggressive, user hostile auto play I’ve ever seen. Not only is it impossible to turn the “feature” off, but controls are locked out once it starts to switch. You can’t even pause or exit the show. Your only option to stop it is to exit the app and force quit it. I’ve never seen such open disdain for customers from a company. They know people don’t want it, and they don’t care.

This is the biggest scam! DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS APP! I originally subscribed to try out the app and quickly found out that aside from a few shows everything else on HBO Now is basically trash. So, I canceled my subscription and just got my credit card bill and it shows that I am STILL getting charged even after deleting the app and canceling my subscription! I googled this issue and found out that I am Not Alone and that Thousands of other people got sucked into the same exact scam that is HBO NOW! On Top of Everything else the app makes it next to impossible to actually contact a living human to try and resolve the issue. I am beyond disgusted with this garbage, I hope HBO gets hit with a class action lawsuit because of this!

Just recently subscribed to HBO NOW. Never got the chance to try watching anything on my phone but I did on my Smart TV. The first movie went smoothly, no issues. But when I watched another movie, it kept trying to load every few minutes. Not sure is anyone had this same issue but it is really frustrating. I am still on my 7-day free trial but at this point, not sure if I want to pay $14.99 a month just to watch a loading screen. ☹️

Over all I really enjoy the mass selection of movies and tv shows hbo has to offer but what really bothers me is almost nothing has trailers. I have to look up a trailer on YouTube in order to actually see what the movies are about because the descriptions are so vague. It’s really annoying for a service I’m paying 15 dollars a month for. I don’t have cable so I rely on internet and apps for my Movie and Series entertainment. I have had some of the more popular apps for years, and am currently able to play those apps with no problems at all. The HBO Now app is inconsistent. Some days it works fine and I can get through a movie or show with out a glitch. Other days, the movie or show will have to re-load or “think” every 15-minutes or so. I find this frustrating since I don’t have this issues with my other apps. I pay more for HBO Now than I do for the other apps that don’t have this issue. Because of this, I’m contemplating getting rid of it. I don’t know that the app is worth the frustration. I can always find the shows and Movies another way.

I’m a Dish subscriber, meaning this is the only option to receive HBO until the execs come to their senses and end this ridiculous staredown. I launched the app last night for the first time to watch Real Time and, much to my surprise, you cannot watch live HBO with it. So why is called HBO Now? And, in the case of many shows, they’re not available on demand until the next day or maybe longer. I don’t know if Game of Thrones falls into that category but Last Week Tonight does. Having had HBO Go access before, I can say this app pales in comparison. We’re paying a premium price. We have a right to expect premium service. That means whatever other satellite/cable providers offer with their HBO package, we should get. Considering scrapping this app ...

I am able to get this app to hang by inserting a complex string in the password field. I can repeat the hang over and over again using different strings, using much simpler strings than the first. In the era of needing complex passwords, you would think that HBO would have tested this before releasing

I love HBO’s stand-alone streaming service, especially now they updated the watchlist to include an entire series. My only gripe is that you can’t download content to watch offline, Netflix and Starz have this option. I would give this app 5 stars if that feature was available.

HBO Now is a poorly written program that underperforms next to other streaming services. The content is great because it’s produced by HBO, but the app execution is terrible. There are constant lags and timeouts which are unique to this program. HBO won’t release content until a day after its debut except for certain exceptions like Vice News which is topical and needs to be seen the day of. Because content is not immediately available I end up watching the HBO shows I want on YouTube because I’m not willing to wait a day. I subscribed because I feel an obligation to pay for the content that I enjoy like Bill Maher’s Real-time, Game of Thrones and Westworld. At this point since they have done nothing to improve the performance of HBO Now in the years that I’ve had it I’m going to save myself $15 a month and just watch my shows on YouTube where the audio will be imperfect, but at least it’s available in a timely manner and I can participate in workplace discussion without being a day behind everyone else. That is what happens when you rely on HBO Now. If this app were improved and content were made available sooner I would probably subscribe again, but at this point there is no indication that that is about to happen. It feels like HBO wants us all to go back in time and plug back in to cable. Well, no thanks! I’ll keep streaming for now and get my HBO content from YouTube or Amazon Prime. Bye Felicia!

Even after updating, this app is basically useless. If I didn’t have an Apple TV (meaning if I didn’t have another medium through which I could access my account) I would consider it fraud.

the name HBO “NOW” implies a sense of urgency on behalf of the app that i have yet to see... it takes about 20 tries to get a single video to queue up and play. the audio and picture often lag and it takes several minutes to load. at this point i’m spending more time trying to load my episode than watching it. totally a fwp but it really is annoying and i’m thinking about cancelling my subscription and just renting the dvd from the library (so old school!!)

Even Netflix has the option to turn off autoplay for tv shows. I’d prefer to watch all the credits and not miss whole episodes when I fall asleep. More options = better viewer experience.

Hello! I am very disappointed with HBO NOW, I have to cancel my subscription because it is not supporting the PlayStation 3. Additionally, they removed my access via my PlayStation 3 on 1/8 which is prior to my last day on my billing. So, I can watch till 1/12 on my phone only. Why??

I didn’t give this just one star because I love the programming on HBO so much... but they have GOT to do something about their apps. They’re terrible in functionality and don’t come close to the ease of using Prime or Netflix. Sometimes I just give up and go watch one of those. How long til HBO gets a clue - and a new developer?

This app has not been updated for the new aspect ratio on the iPad Pro 2018. As it is now, there are huge black bars on either side of the app, and it is impossible to play videos in full screen.

You have to go on a computer to unsubscribe, otherwise it just takes you back to this raggedy app. This is the most annoying mess I have ever had to deal with in my life, I regret even signing up for the free trial. No way in hell I’m paying $14 a month for this trash. Y’all are not that special to be THIS inconvenient. Oh and I just read the reviews! I BETTER not be charged after I already canceled this subscription, and don’t even hit me with that “you must cancel via your provider you subscribed with” because first of all that doesn’t even make sense, second of all I already checked apple and hbo isn’t even in my list of subscriptions. And do you know what is absolutely insane? I thought I’d just delete the entire account just in case but it doesn’t look like you can do that at all, I’ve searched on the (help) sight, googled, and everything and all that comes up is how to “cancel the subscription”. I don’t have cable so I rely on internet and apps for my Movie and Series entertainment. I have had some of the more popular apps for years, and am currently able to play those apps with no problems at all. The HBO Now app is inconsistent. Some days it works fine and I can get through a movie or show with out a glitch. Other days, the movie or show will have to re-load or “think” every 15-minutes or so. I find this frustrating since I don’t have this issues with my other apps. I pay more for HBO Now than I do for the other apps that don’t have this issue. Because of this, I’m contemplating getting rid of it. I don’t know that the app is worth the frustration. I can always find the shows and Movies another way.

While HBO continues to have some of the best original content and a well curated collection of movies, the quality of the actual streaming absolutely ruins their product. Every minute or two, whatever I am watching will freeze and buffer for a couple of seconds, sometimes up to a minute or two. Anyone who has watched and enjoyed film or television in their lives knows how this completely ruins the atmosphere and mood of a good show. We have tried every troubleshoot that HBO offered, but nothing works. I have all top end equipment as this is the area of my life that I like to splurge, and my modem/router is connected to the TV with a hard wire. There is no excuse for this, only the fact that their servers are inadequate. Once Game of Thrones ends this year, we will cancel our subscription and switch back to buying DVDs.

This app is not as good as it should be! If your use to Netflix or just about any other streaming app, you’ll find yourself frustrated having to open and close the app just to watch a show or movie. I find myself counting the seconds it takes to load while fast forwarding thru previews or recaps and trying to figure out wether it’s worth it to just sit and watch the same preview for the 20th time. It’s annoying that I tried rewinding 10 seconds and it took so long to load my phone locked due to non activity. All in all I appreciate HBO content but to pay the price this app costs and for something so simple as a 10 second rewind taking over half a minute to load and then open and close the app over 3 times, sort of makes u wonder what your paying for?

I’m a Dish subscriber, meaning this is the only option to receive HBO until the execs come to their senses and end this ridiculous staredown. I launched the app last night for the first time to watch Real Time and, much to my surprise, you cannot watch live HBO with it. So why is called HBO Now? And, in the case of many shows, they’re not available on demand until the next day or maybe longer. I don’t know if Game of Thrones falls into that category but Last Week Tonight does. Having had HBO Go access before, I can say this app pales in comparison. We’re paying a premium price. We have a right to expect premium service. That means whatever other satellite/cable providers offer with their HBO package, we should get. Considering scrapping this app ...

This is the biggest scam! DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS APP! I originally subscribed to try out the app and quickly found out that aside from a few shows everything else on HBO Now is basically trash. So, I canceled my subscription and just got my credit card bill and it shows that I am STILL getting charged even after deleting the app and canceling my subscription! I googled this issue and found out that I am Not Alone and that Thousands of other people got sucked into the same exact scam that is HBO NOW! On Top of Everything else the app makes it next to impossible to actually contact a living human to try and resolve the issue. I am beyond disgusted with this garbage, I hope HBO gets hit with a class action lawsuit because of this!

Just paid $16 and the app screen is all black? I’m using the newest phone out and y’all are charging me for a service that doesn’t work? Then tried to use it on my LG smart TV. Surprise surprise....no way to do it as HBO doesn’t care to spend the money to have software compatible for LG smart TVs. Y’all are slacking! Will be cancelling ASAP if there’s no way to view your content! Get with the times HBO....I can watch SHOWTIME anywhere, maybe get some of their app developers? Probably one of the best apps in terms of quality vs all other streaming apps. I don't take that away. But I take two stars off because of being slow to add the latest and greatest features. One star for not optimizing for the new iPad Pro (really HBO? Your app looks like 4 years old this way) and no 4K/HDR. Bring this and I'll change (but please, be faster).

I love HBO’s stand-alone streaming service, especially now they updated the watchlist to include an entire series. My only gripe is that you can’t download content to watch offline, Netflix and Starz have this option. I would give this app 5 stars if that feature was available.

I have had this app for years and it’s been fine. Suddenly within the last few months shows won’t play or they do play for a second and then then pause for 10. Maybe one out of every 10 times I try to watch something it will work. I tried calling a few weeks ago and was told I would be contacted by someone. I haven’t heard a thing. Someone better get this garbage fixed before April.
Can’t stop auto play

This app has the most aggressive, user hostile auto play I’ve ever seen. Not only is it impossible to turn the “feature” off, but controls are locked out once it starts to switch. You can’t even pause or exit the show. Your only option to stop it is to exit the app and force quit it. I’ve never seen such open disdain for customers from a company. They know people don’t want it, and they don’t care.

Signed up for 7day free trail on 2/4 and was confirmed that my free trail would end 2/11 through email. On 2/11 I sign on to my account to cancel my free trail before my card is charged and come to find that they already charged my card! When I called customer service they tell me that my free trail ended on 2/10 (I have the emails to prove the trail ended 2/11) and that there is nothing they can do as they have STRICT NO REFUND policy. Horrible customer service tricking you w terms and conditions.

I love the shows and movies on HBO, but I can never get it to work during the daytime. Skips every 20 seconds and pauses itself for 10 seconds. At night it’s not as often but during the day no matter what the weather outside, it won’t play a thing. When is hbo going to get rid of this bug and get it to play more often? After my free trial I’m canceling this.

Unlike the nearly perfect to workable cellular streaming experience offered by most of this app's competitors, the HBO app regularly stalls out, buffering forever. It makes streaming over cellular impossible except in perfect conditions. This app often doesn't even stream well on WiFi.

Do you want to pay for something that doesn’t work? HBO NOW is for you! I’m being billed but when I try to sign in HBO tells me to renew. Pretty frustrating, so I decided to cancel. Seems like HBO is trying to stop sharing of accounts to the point where my account doesn’t work. I’ll just have to pony up for a month when GOT comes out in the year 2039

The Xbox One version of the app works only about 30% of the time on the Xbox One! Videos won’t load. It takes 5 minutes to look online and see people have been having issues for a long time. Fix that already! I use this iPhone and the Xbox app. I’ve paid for my first month but it’s probably going to be my last unless some changes occur.

Constant rebuffers on chromecast

I was watching blade runner on chromecast and I got around 30 rebuffering pauses in one hour. I had to stop the movie. It plays fine on the iPad itself, when I don’t use chromecast, but I want to watch this in my tv. This is the worse video streaming app I have ever used, and as chromecast is the main way I use this app, a good reason to cancel my subscription
App needs update and new features to hold up against Netflix

App is not optimized for iPad Pro 11”. The app does not fit the screen. Keyboard shortcuts on the smart case do not work. Worst of all, the app does not allow downloads for offline viewing. I primarily use Netflix while flying on planes, so the lack of this feature almost makes the app and service useless to me.

Crashes on iPad relentlessly. Also, there is no landscape (long width) menu, so you're constantly turning your device when switching from video to selection menu and back. Not the quality you'd expect from a giant like HBO. This hunk of digital junk needs to be overhauled, or rewritten from the ground up.

This app has always been usable, but as of late (Jan 2019) it fails to load or play videos on my iPad. iPhone works fine but I get error messages on the iPad. I reinstalled the app etc and still nothing.

I don’t understand how streaming apps can go through these phases where they are impossible to navigate. All I need is ‘recently watched’ and genre tabs that I can scroll through. I am able to get this app to hang by inserting a complex string in the password field. I can repeat the hang over and over again using different strings, using much simpler strings than the first. In the era of needing complex passwords, you would think that HBO would have tested this before releasing

The app is awful. Design is awkward and implementation is sloppy at best. It violates all sorts of App Store rules, too. Even though you can pay via iTunes, this app requires you to create an HBO account so they can track your purchase and web browsing habits. This is against all of Apple’s rules, but you know—it’s a big company so the rules don’t apply to HBO. Love the tv. Hate these entitled low IQ developers. Making a good app is not difficult if you have good people. Fire the tech and design leads.

I’m 8 feet away from my WiFi, in the same room, direct line of sight. Hulu and Netflix are doing just fine, but this app has yet to load any movie or tv show episode. I’ve tried streaming multiple videos to no avail. I even closed all the apps, disconnected WiFi, and restarted my iPad, set it all back up and tried again, and my iPad timed itself out (10 minutes) and locked/went to sleep with the three little blue dots flashing. Hopeless.

I forgot my pin. The App will send you an email with a link to reset it. The link works. However, it forces me to enter a “code you see on your TV“. What TV? I subscribe to the Hulu live streaming service and have no TV subscription and don’t use the TV! I watch on the phone. This makes it impossible to reset.

Signed up for 7day free trail on 2/4 and was confirmed that my free trail would end 2/11 through email. On 2/11 I sign on to my account to cancel my free trail before my card is charged and come to find that they already charged my card! When I called customer service they tell me that my free trail ended on 2/10 (I have the emails to prove the trail ended 2/11) and that there is nothing they can do as they have STRICT NO REFUND policy. Horrible customer service tricking you w terms and conditions.

App is not optimized for iPad Pro 11”. The app does not fit the screen. Keyboard shortcuts on the smart case do not work. Worst of all, the app does not allow downloads for offline viewing. I primarily use Netflix while flying on planes, so the lack of this feature almost makes the app and service useless to me.

I just cancelled my subscription. Will possibly subscribe through Amazon Prime because at least their app is good. This is as much on Apple as it is on HBO. Why doesn’t the app utilize the whole screen on my iPad Pro? Apple, stop approving updates until they at least support your newest devices. The most expensive streaming network and an embarrassingly bad app.

This app is not as good as it should be! If your use to Netflix or just about any other streaming app, you’ll find yourself frustrated having to open and close the app just to watch a show or movie. I find myself counting the seconds it takes to load while fast forwarding thru previews or recaps and trying to figure out wether it’s worth it to just sit and watch the same preview for the 20th time. It’s annoying that I tried rewinding 10 seconds and it took so long to load my phone locked due to non activity. All in all I appreciate HBO content but to pay the price this app costs and for something so simple as a 10 second rewind taking over half a minute to load and then open and close the app over 3 times, sort of makes u wonder what your paying for?

2/3/19- i had this service for 2 months now but i just canceled my HBOnow subscription thru the amazon Fire tv store. Reason: This Hbo app is awful. 1. I have Fios 4k speed and the video streaming still encounters lag sometimes! 2. You cant download content unto ur phone or ipad hbo apps to watch off wifi! Thats crazy! Every streaming service offers offline viewing but Hbo, which is more expensive then the other streaming services, offers NO offline viewing??? ARE YOU SERIOUS? 3. The app is not user friendly. Probably one of the best apps in terms of quality vs all other streaming apps. I don't take that away. But I take two stars off because of being slow to add the latest and greatest features. One star for not optimizing for the new iPad Pro (really HBO? Your app looks like 4 years old this way) and no 4K/HDR. Bring this and I'll change (but please, be faster).

While HBO continues to have some of the best original content and a well curated collection of movies, the quality of the actual streaming absolutely ruins their product. Every minute or two, whatever I am watching will freeze and buffer for a couple of seconds, sometimes up to a minute or two. Anyone who has watched and enjoyed film or television in their lives knows how this completely ruins the atmosphere and mood of a good show. We have tried every troubleshoot that HBO offered, but nothing works. I have all top end equipment as this is the area of my life that I like to splurge, and my modem/router is connected to the TV with a hard wire. There is no excuse for this, only the fact that their servers are inadequate. Once Game of Thrones ends this year, we will cancel our subscription and switch back to buying DVDs.

Crashes on iPad relentlessly. Also, there is no landscape (long width) menu, so you're constantly turning your device when switching from video to selection menu and back. Not the quality you'd expect from a giant like HBO. This hunk of digital junk needs to be overhauled, or rewritten from the ground up.

This app is a nightmare. Currently have spent 30 minutes trying to watch one episode of game of thrones on my TV before bed with no luck. I’m subscribed through iTunes with my Apple ID email (the same one I used to sign up with HBO now). Every time I log in on my PS4, I enter the TV code on the website, sign in, and it tells me I don’t have a subscription and wants me to sign up for another one (even though I’m already PAYING for one). It won’t let me watch any shows or movies and keeps prompting me to subscribe. It’s ridiculous how unintuitive this whole system is. All I wanted to do was relax in bed and watch a show but it’s like dealing with a scam. Waste of my night and I will not be renewing my HBO Now subscription once my first week trial expires.

This app has the most aggressive, user hostile auto play I’ve ever seen. Not only is it impossible to turn the “feature” off, but controls are locked out once it starts to switch. You can’t even pause or exit the show. Your only option to stop it is to exit the app and force quit it. I’ve never seen such open disdain for customers from a company. They know people don’t want it, and they don’t care.

This is the biggest scam! DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS APP! I originally subscribed to try out the app and quickly found out that aside from a few shows everything else on HBO Now is basically trash. So, I canceled my subscription and just got my credit card bill and it shows that I am STILL getting charged even after deleting the app and canceling my subscription! I googled this issue and found out that I am Not Alone and that Thousands of other people got sucked into the same exact scam that is HBO NOW! On Top of Everything else the app makes it next to impossible to actually contact a living human to try and resolve the issue. I am beyond disgusted with this garbage, I hope HBO gets hit with a class action lawsuit because of this!

Just recently subscribed to HBO NOW. Never got the chance to try watching anything on my phone but I did on my Smart TV. The first movie went smoothly, no issues. But when I watched another movie, it kept trying to load every few minutes. Not sure is anyone had this same issue but it is really frustrating. I am still on my 7-day free trial but at this point, not sure if I want to pay $14.99 a month just to watch a loading screen. ☹️

I have to look up a trailer on YouTube in order to actually see what the movies are about because the descriptions are so vague. It’s really annoying for a service I’m paying 15 dollars a month for. I don’t have cable so I rely on internet and apps for my Movie and Series entertainment. I have had some of the more popular apps for years, and am currently able to play those apps with no problems at all. The HBO Now app is inconsistent. Some days it works fine and I can get through a movie or show with out a glitch. Other days, the movie or show will have to re-load or “think” every 15-minutes or so. I find this frustrating since I don’t have this issues with my other apps. I pay more for HBO Now than I do for the other apps that don’t have this issue. Because of this, I’m contemplating getting rid of it. I don’t know that the app is worth the frustration. I can always find the shows and Movies another way.

I’m a Dish subscriber, meaning this is the only option to receive HBO until the execs come to their senses and end this ridiculous staredown. I launched the app last night for the first time to watch Real Time and, much to my surprise, you cannot watch live HBO with it. So why is called HBO Now? And, in the case of many shows, they’re not available on demand until the next day or maybe longer. I don’t know if Game of Thrones falls into that category but Last Week Tonight does. Having had HBO Go access before, I can say this app pales in comparison. We’re paying a premium price. We have a right to expect premium service. That means whatever other satellite/cable providers offer with their HBO package, we should get. Considering scrapping this app ...

I am able to get this app to hang by inserting a complex string in the password field. I can repeat the hang over and over again using different strings, using much simpler strings than the first. HBO Now is a poorly written program that underperforms next to other streaming services. The content is great because it’s produced by HBO, but the app execution is terrible. There are constant lags and timeouts which are unique to this program. HBO won’t release content until a day after its debut except for certain exceptions like Vice News which is topical and needs to be seen the day of. Because content is not immediately available I end up watching the HBO shows I want on YouTube because I’m not willing to wait a day. I subscribed because I feel an obligation to pay for the content that I enjoy like Bill Maher’s Real-time, Game of Thrones and Westworld. At this point since they have done nothing to improve the performance of HBO Now in the years that I’ve had it I’m going to save myself $15 a month and just watch my shows on YouTube where the audio will be imperfect, but at least it’s available in a timely manner and I can participate in workplace discussion without being a day behind everyone else. That is what happens when you rely on HBO Now. If this app were improved and content were made available sooner I would probably subscribe again, but at this point there is no indication that that is about to happen. It feels like HBO wants us all to go back in time and plug back in to cable. Well, no thanks! I’ll keep streaming for now and get my HBO content from YouTube or Amazon Prime. Bye Felicia!

the name HBO “NOW” implies a sense of urgency on behalf of the app that i have yet to see... it takes about 20 tries to get a single video to queue up and play. the audio and picture often lag and it takes several minutes to load. at this point i’m spending more time trying to load my episode than watching it. totally a fwp but it really is annoying and i’m thinking about cancelling my subscription and just renting the dvd from the library (so old school!!)

Hello! I am very disappointed with HBO NOW, I have to cancel my subscription because it is not supporting the PlayStation 3. Additionally, they removed my access via my PlayStation 3 on 1/8 which is prior to my last day on my billing. So, I can watch till 1/12 on my phone only. Why??

I didn’t give this just one star because I love the programming on HBO so much... but they have GOT to do something about their apps. They’re terrible in functionality and don’t come close to the ease of using Prime or Netflix. Sometimes I just give up and go watch one of those. How long til HBO gets a clue - and a new developer?

This app has not been updated for the new aspect ratio on the iPad Pro 2018. As it is now, there are huge black bars on either side of the app, and it is impossible to play videos in full screen.

The app does not work with chromecast at all. When you select chrome cast the app just crashes. I have even deleted and downloaded the app again hoping it will help but it doesn’t

You have to go on a computer to unsubscribe, otherwise it just takes you back to this raggedy app. This is the most annoying mess I have ever had to deal with in my life, I regret even signing up for the free trial. No way in hell I’m paying $14 a month for this trash. Y’all are not that special to be THIS inconvenient. Oh and I just read the reviews! I BETTER not be charged after I already canceled this subscription, and don’t even hit me with that “you must cancel via your provider you subscribed with” because first of all that doesn’t even make sense, second of all I already checked apple and hbo isn’t even in my list of subscriptions. And do you know what is absolutely insane? I thought I’d just delete the entire account just in case but it doesn’t look like you can do that at all, I’ve searched on the (help) sight, googled, and everything and all that comes up is how to “cancel the subscription”. You can’t even just remove your card information, unless you put in another card sooooo this is literally a huge scam... People who are still charged after cancellation and receive that message from hbo, They’re LYING. You’re better off just calling your bank and telling them not to pay thieves whatsoever. I don’t have cable so I rely on internet and apps for my Movie and Series entertainment. I have had some of the more popular apps for years, and am currently able to play those apps with no problems at all. The HBO Now app is inconsistent. Some days it works fine and I can get through a movie or show with out a glitch. Other days, the movie or show will have to re-load or “think” every 15-minutes or so. I find this frustrating since I don’t have this issues with my other apps. I pay more for HBO Now than I do for the other apps that don’t have this issue. Because of this, I’m contemplating getting rid of it. I don’t know that the app is worth the frustration. I can always find the shows and Movies another way.

While HBO continues to have some of the best original content and a well curated collection of movies, the quality of the actual streaming absolutely ruins their product. Every minute or two, whatever I am watching will freeze and buffer for a couple of seconds, sometimes up to a minute or two. Anyone who has watched and enjoyed film or television in their lives knows how this completely ruins the atmosphere and mood of a good show. We have tried every troubleshoot that HBO offered, but nothing works. I have all top end equipment as this is the area of my life that I like to splurge, and my modem/router is connected to the TV with a hard wire. There is no excuse for this, only the fact that their servers are inadequate. Once Game of Thrones ends this year, we will cancel our subscription and switch back to buying DVDs.
Very frustrating

This app is not as good as it should be! If your use to Netflix or just about any other streaming app, you’ll find yourself frustrated having to open and close the app just to watch a show or movie. I find myself counting the seconds it takes to load while fast forwarding thru previews or recaps and trying to figure out wether it’s worth it to just sit and watch the same preview for the 20th time. It’s annoying that I tried rewinding 10 seconds and it took so long to load my phone locked due to non activity. All in all I appreciate HBO content but to pay the price this app costs and for something so simple as a 10 second rewind taking over half a minute to load and then open and close the app over 3 times, sort of makes u wonder what your paying for?

I’m a Dish subscriber, meaning this is the only option to receive HBO until the execs come to their senses and end this ridiculous staredown. I launched the app last night for the first time to watch Real Time and, much to my surprise, you cannot watch live HBO with it. So why is called HBO Now? And, in the case of many shows, they’re not available on demand until the next day or maybe longer. I don’t know if Game of Thrones falls into that category but Last Week Tonight does. Having had HBO Go access before, I can say this app pales in comparison. We’re paying a premium price. We have a right to expect premium service. That means whatever other satellite/cable providers offer with their HBO package, we should get. Considering scrapping this app ...
STILL GETTING CHARGED AFTER CANCELLATION

This is the biggest scam! DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS APP! I originally subscribed to try out the app and quickly found out that aside from a few shows everything else on HBO Now is basically trash. So, I canceled my subscription and just got my credit card bill and it shows that I am STILL getting charged even after deleting the app and canceling my subscription! I googled this issue and found out that I am Not Alone and that Thousands of other people got sucked into the same exact scam that is HBO NOW! On Top of Everything else the app makes it next to impossible to actually contact a living human to try and resolve the issue. I am beyond disgusted with this garbage, I hope HBO gets hit with a class action lawsuit because of this!

Just paid $16 and the app screen is all black? I’m using the newest phone out and y’all are charging me for a service that doesn’t work? Then tried to use it on my LG smart TV. Surprise surprise....no way to do it as HBO doesn’t care to spend the money to have software compatible for LG smart TVs. Y’all are slacking! Will be cancelling ASAP if there’s no way to view your content! Get with the times HBO....I can watch SHOWTIME anywhere, maybe get some of their app developers? What a pain it is to view your awesome content....very annoying

Probably one of the best apps in terms of quality vs all other streaming apps. I don't take that away. But I take two stars off because of being slow to add the latest and greatest features. One star for not optimizing for the new iPad Pro (really HBO? Your app looks like 4 years old this way) and no 4K/HDR. Bring this and I'll change (but please, be faster).

I love HBO’s stand-alone streaming service, especially now they updated the watchlist to include an entire series. My only gripe is that you can’t download content to watch offline, Netflix and Starz have this option. I would give this app 5 stars if that feature was available.

I have had this app for years and it’s been fine. Suddenly within the last few months shows won’t play or they do play for a second and then then pause for 10. Maybe one out of every 10 times I try to watch something it will work. I tried calling a few weeks ago and was told I would be contacted by someone. I haven’t heard a thing. Someone better get this garbage fixed before April.
Can’t stop auto play

This app has the most aggressive, user hostile auto play I’ve ever seen. Not only is it impossible to turn the “feature” off, but controls are locked out once it starts to switch. You can’t even pause or exit the show. Your only option to stop it is to exit the app and force quit it. I’ve never seen such open disdain for customers from a company. They know people don’t want it, and they don’t care.

Signed up for 7day free trail on 2/4 and was confirmed that my free trail would end 2/11 through email. On 2/11 I sign on to my account to cancel my free trail before my card is charged and come to find that they already charged my card! When I called customer service they tell me that my free trail ended on 2/10 (I have the emails to prove the trail ended 2/11) and that there is nothing they can do as they have STRICT NO REFUND policy. Horrible customer service tricking you w terms and conditions.
Frustrating

I love the shows and movies on HBO, but I can never get it to work during the daytime. Skips every 20 seconds and pauses itself for 10 seconds. At night it’s not as often but during the day no matter what the weather outside, it won’t play a thing. When is hbo going to get rid of this bug and get it to play more often? After my free trial I’m canceling this.

The new 11 inch ipad has been released for months, but there is still no support and optimization for that! Huge black borders out there is really annoying. How come no one in HBO team can fix this problem while other apps deal it so quickly???

Unlike the nearly perfect to workable cellular streaming experience offered by most of this app's competitors, the HBO app regularly stalls out, buffering forever. It makes streaming over cellular impossible except in perfect conditions. This app often doesn't even stream well on WiFi.

Do you want to pay for something that doesn’t work? HBO NOW is for you! I’m being billed but when I try to sign in HBO tells me to renew. Pretty frustrating, so I decided to cancel. Seems like HBO is trying to stop sharing of accounts to the point where my account doesn’t work. I’ll just have to pony up for a month when GOT comes out in the year 2039
Fix HBO Now on Xbox One!

The Xbox One version of the app works only about 30% of the time on the Xbox One! Videos won’t load. It takes 5 minutes to look online and see people have been having issues for a long time. Fix that already! I use this iPhone and the Xbox app. I’ve paid for my first month but it’s probably going to be my last unless some changes occur.

Constant rebuffers on chromecast

I was watching blade runner on chromecast and I got around 30 rebuffering pauses in one hour. I had to stop the movie. It plays fine on the iPad itself, when I don’t use chromecast, but I want to watch this in my tv. This is the worse video streaming app I have ever used, and as chromecast is the main way I use this app, a good reason to cancel my subscription
App needs update and new features to hold up against Netflix

App is not optimized for iPad Pro 11”. The app does not fit the screen. Keyboard shortcuts on the smart case do not work. Worst of all, the app does not allow downloads for offline viewing. I primarily use Netflix while flying on planes, so the lack of this feature almost makes the app and service useless to me.

For a pretty expensive subscription you would think you would get the basic options of a streaming service where you can download a movie or show to watch when you dont have wifi/cell service, but this app does not support that feature sadly.

HBO is a huge company, and for some reason they can’t make a decent streaming app that doesn’t lag. Go Figure!! It shouldn’t matter if you have to use chrome cast or roku. Thank you for creating the free trial at least. I will definitely not be spending $15 a month for starts and stops.

Unstable and interface is garbage

Crashes on iPad relentlessly. Also, there is no landscape (long width) menu, so you're constantly turning your device when switching from video to selection menu and back. Not the quality you'd expect from a giant like HBO. This hunk of digital junk needs to be overhauled, or rewritten from the ground up.

This app has always been usable, but as of late (Jan 2019) it fails to load or play videos on my iPad. iPhone works fine but I get error messages on the iPad. I reinstalled the app etc and still nothing.

When did the four series genres become ‘All,’ ‘International,’ ‘Latino’ and ‘Family’? Where is the true crime section? I don’t understand how streaming apps can go through these phases where they are impossible to navigate. All I need is ‘recently watched’ and genre tabs that I can scroll through. It’s not so much to ask.

I’m in the middle of watching a show after having watched many shows. All of a sudden I get a network error hbo now will now restart messgage. 1) it never restarts 2) after trying to restart all I get is a black screen. Sure glad a pay 15 bucks a month for something that doesn’t work

Why isn't there a student discounts or even annual subscription? Your charge of 15 dollars is all across the board. Why would I pay 15 dollars to you when i can go to my provider and do the same? They charge the same. Drop your charge to something more affordable like Starz does.
App crash during true detective

Users who had issues with the app during the premiere of True Detective should receive a free month for this service. There is no reason why the app should have crashed. I’ve been a customer since day 1. This is not the first time that this happened.

After a couple of days I really didn’t like how everything was, so I cancelled my subscription and then days later HBO charged me $15. I canceled my free trial and now they are charging me. What the hell HBO! I want a refund HBO, I didn’t want to continue using this app.
They falsely claim that family sharing is allowed

Since this is a free app and the value comes from the subscription, which is not shareable, it feels misleading to claim that Family Sharing is supported by this app. Other than that, app is ok. Frequently encounter streaming issues and app often feel unresponsive.

This app actually doesn’t work. Connected with my xfinity account cause it’s easier than on-demand, but this app doesn’t work at all. Won’t even let you select the show to watch. Where is the support for this app to make it work with today’s iPhone?

I am able to get this app to hang by inserting a complex string in the password field. I can repeat the hang over and over again using different strings, using much simpler strings than the first. In the era of needing complex passwords, you would think that HBO would have tested this before releasing

Even Netflix has the option to turn off autoplay for tv shows. I’d prefer to watch all the credits and not miss whole episodes when I fall asleep. More options = better viewer experience.

7 day preview is BS. I cancelled before the 7th day but on my iTunes account it said if I cancel now the account would expire next month. I cancelled and then two days later was charged for the following month. Looks like bait and switch to me.

Full bars and GOT still takes a full five minutes to load. And if I have weaker WiFi or cell connection, no HboNow. This when other apps like Netflix only need hardly 800kbps to load. Pathetic.
