No more free trial, horrible UX

HBO charges premium prices. Content is good, but the delivery is so so miserable. Need to be charging $7.99/month till a decent product is put together. Can not pay such high prices for such low quality. Yay, they used to give 30 free. Not going to bother signing up. The price is higher and less is given to see if I like it. Feels like taking care of customers is being sacrificed for more money. Can’t support that. Especially when the delivery is awful. The HBO website is absolutely horrible. Want to rewind something in full screen? No, sorry. The buttons are there, but play/pause is the only thing that happens no matter where you click. Want to watch the next episode? Good luck finding it, and getting frustrated when everything on the screen is not what you want, and go through 10 different links before you get there. The next episode shows up on the bottom of the web page, which is somewhat helpful, unless you are in full screen because clicking it only pauses what you are currently watching! Exit full screen, and the link goes away. No way am I going to pay.
Cannot sign in

I cannot sign in. Force quit the app and reopened it. Turned my iPhone off and back on. Deleted the app and reinstalled. I enter my credentials and the sign in button illuminates but nothing happens when I press on it.

Impossible to navigate from any suitable viewing distance. Tried contacting customer support and only get pre recorded auto response. App worked for a day or so then just stops!

Why is it that a service you pay for directly is worse than the service you pay for through a cable company? Re evaluate your priorities HBO. Go should not be better than Now. Even better, stop dividing your resources and make one app for everyone.
Very bad chrome cast experience

I m using YouTube, Netflix, Hulu without any lag or crashes but with HBO now its very laggy and crashes once during every episode. Once I click on cast it will take 45 to 120 seconds to start playing on TV and if it were due to network I would have experienced it with other streaming apps too, so it must be app.

I’ve tried everything - restarting my phone, router, TV and uninstalling the APP. Still, every 10-15 minutes, the same error occurs - Error 102 crashing the stream on my TV and forcing me to restart the show. I have NEVER gotten thru an entire episode of any show without it crashing at least once. It’s sad because I love HBO shows, but I’m uninstalling and canceling as soon as GOT is over. Steaming a show on my TV is frustrating as hell and this is the only app with this problem.

The HBO app isn’t working at all, PERIOD, for any given time. As you try to use the app, it doesn’t start up at all. Instead it says, sorry for the inconvenience, to make sure you have a good internet connection. It isn’t my internet. Plain and simple, there app DOESNT WORK and they haven’t tried to resolve this. Game of Thrones has been airing for a couple of weeks now and people from all over are unable to watch it on there devices because HBO has failed to come up with a solution or even more, failed there customers on what has happened and when it’ll be back up. I don’t think HBO cares. Just as long you pay them.

HBO is one of the Grand Maesters of storytelling. But this app is atrocious. My search for “The Game Revealed” returnees zero results. Really? I’m gonna have to cancel this nonsense. Yes, I know, the whole will go on without me. It’s not about trying to “stick it to the man.” I just don’t have time for this inconvenient garbage. There are easier, third-party ways to consume HBO content.

Will it work this time, or will it crash instantly and repeatedly upon launch??? You never know! I have literally had to reinstall the app five times in the four weeks since I got it. This latest version of the app is on par with the “not good” Hulu app. Content is not the question, the app used to be easy to navigate and now is not. Should I need to make multiple up/down/left/right movements in uneasily distinguishable in your UI to navigate...or just left/right without going into additional vertical layers? Just like Hulu, looks cool and detracts from the overall usability.

I have always loved and still do love HBO programming but this app is killing me with having to watch initial credits! C’mon HBO...I pay more for your service on the app than Netflix or Hulu and they BOTH have “skip intro” features. Though I’m not an app developer, I’d imagine it’s not that difficult to add in that feature for viewers. Hook your fans up!

I subscribed and downloaded this app in hopes of finishing Game of Thrones season eight. However, the app is totally in accessible using iOS voiceover screen reader. HBO, you must do a better job for those of us who are visually impaired. Video descriptions is not even on your radar. But, having an app that is totally in accessible is inexcusable.

After reading countless 1-2 star reviews, I must say that they are all right. The worst part is HBO will tell you they cancelled your membership after you’ve been on the phone with them for an hour but they will still charge you the next day and WONT give you a refund!

Since they changed the interface, HBO now has been less user friendly. If you want the latest episode and it doesn’t automatically show on featured you have to scroll passed season 1. Then it goes to Season 1 instead of the current season. If you scroll fast enough it may not go back to the first season but it’s really hit or miss. Please fix this hot garbage.

Like most of the features, just is too clunky and crashes too often to be a professional app that millions are using. Please re-write and clean it up. To date 45 crashes in 4.5 week time.

Casting to Chromecast broken

I am able to cast to my Chromecasts from my phone in other apps, and from other devices, but every time I try to cast this app to Chromecast in this version, the app crashes and the Chromecast says "something has give wrong." Not the best bug to let out in the world during the conclusion of one of your most popular series of all time. Guess I'll just watch it on my phone screen.

Deleting after Game of Thrones. I’m a cord cutter so I thought this app would be nice to use. Black screen 75% of the time. No back arrow to escape. No option but to restart the app and hope. Keep in mind I’m typing this but I want to be watching content. And forget chromcast. I have a new TV and this app crashes every time I try. I guess that’s someone else’s fault. I also guess I’ll be watching this via XBox.

I like the app and would rate it a 5 star, but the reason I gave it only 3 is because of: 1. Notifications shows me a number, but when I the app, I have no idea what the notification was. Really? Tell me what the notification was for. 2. No news or schedule of times or when things are coming back on the air. A couple months ago, I went in HBO Now hoping to find out when GoT was going to air; why wouldn’t you tell us debut schedules? Instead, I had to web search it and struggle through several sites to find YOUR schedule. This is common sense here - do whatever it takes to keep us in YOUR space, not have us jump out to look for your scheduling. Plus give us fun stuff to read - news about your shows and other web highlights. It’s more that TV nowadays - think outside the box HBO.
Billed twice for the same period and no refund

HBO Now has a policy of no refund, which I think is alright. In my case I registered with my email address and credit card, but I was not able to login. Thinking the registration didn’t go through, I registered again with the same email address and credit card and this time it worked. Later it was noticed that I have been billed twice for the same period and when contacted the customer service, got to know that there was a typo in the email address used for initial registration. Even after identifying the issue, what the customer service executive could do was to repeatedly say “HBO Now” has a no refund policy”. From company’s stand point what he did would be right. But as a customer I feel cheated by billing from same credit card for the same period for the same service and not giving a refund.

I’ve been an HBO fan for quite some time, ever since I saw The Wire and fell in love with what is undoubtedly the greatest show about police and community ever made. As for this app and it’s subscription that you will purchase with it... It’s worth it, you receive access to every show HBO has ever made in its entirety as well as all future releases including movies and documentaries. It very much is a sort of “Netflix for HBO” If you enjoy the high production quality that HBO is famous for, that Hollywood quality on the small screen... This app just made taking advantage of it that much easier.

I was casually watching episodes of Game of Thrones when suddenly it told me that it was unable to play the video and went on to a black screen. I tried to download the app again but it’s still black and unresponsive after resetting and downloading the app. I will definitely cancel my subscription when the Game of Thrones season ends. It’s just not worth to pay for HBO. Now this happens to my app which pretty much strengthens my urge to cancel.

Dear lord! This is the only media streaming app that won’t consistently play. I have zero problems with any other media app (ie. Netflix, Hulu, youtube). I had pretty good WiFi and LTE data. It doesn’t work for either. Why am I paying for a service I can’t use? The 2 star over all rating for this app shows the developers they need to make some serious changes.

I normally do not leave reviews on business pages let alone apps, but this is ridiculous I've only had this app for a week and I've only been able to watch 1 episode of a series before it kicked me off the app, made me attempt to re-sign in. When I go to choose my provider it just redirects me to the home screen without actually allowing me to sign in. I'm extremely disappointed and I hope you guys get this bug fixed asap!

I too used to have HBO on Dish with the HBOGo app, why doesn’t this HBONow app have the ability to download shows for offline viewing? My husband and I travel a lot and don’t always have WiFi access, so we like having our shows available to view offline. Please add that capability to this app.

Try this on Apple TV with the redesign: 1. Select show on home screen 2. Try to change to another episode in the same season It’s impossible, you’re always taken to Season 1, and the episode that’s on top of the season list is reselected! Goto search. Can you use Siri to dictate...anything? No, some genius decided to implement their own keyboard, the same layout as native tvOS, but no Siri dictation 🤯 Why can’t I mark an episode watched? Why isn’t continue watching the top section on the Home screen? Why isn’t My List another section on the Home screen? Why aren’t I shown what shows are most recent on the Home screen instead of selecting by show first? I watch GoT and Last Week Tonight mostly right now, why aren’t the actual episodes right on top?!?

I wanted to get back to GOT but I cut the cord already so had no choice but to get HBO Now. To my disappointment, i realized that the app does not stream 5.1 audio, instead, all I get is Stereo. My device is a Sony TV. All other apps such as Netflix are streaming 5.1. I checked all my settings on TV but in vain and its just this app that is the issue. Frustrated and very disappointed. I gave 2 stars due to GOT.

The app casted better to our TV when we used it for free on the trial period. We have Comcast high speed internet so that’s not an issue... the screen literally freezes every 15 seconds trying to watch a show.

I find it pretty ridiculous as it is that having the app is required to watch anything on my phone. But I can’t even access billing information without a computer. I guess I’ll stick to Amazon prime where I don’t need to borrow a computer to change settings for a subscription I paid for.

I really wanted to like this app. I got it mainly because Game of Thrones. The app works fine on my phone but I don’t always want to watch on my phone. So when I try to watch it on my TCL tv it constantly crashes saying “check connection”. I have Netflix and Hulu, neither ever crash. It’s really annoying when it happens and it happens multiple times during the show. I tried looking up in troubleshooting but there is no info for my particular tv. Gonna have to cancel my subscription.
Difficult to navigate

I guess I can deal with waiting through the credits for the next episode to play automatically, but it’s frustrating having to turn on the subtitles each time an episode plays. The UI is clunky, I tend to accidentally play videos because of a stray tap and it’s just a pain to return to where you were browsing. But on the bright side, I didn’t realize at first I could use the app because I’m accessing it through prime. I would usually cast from my browser and the video quality was way worse! I’ve found that the video quality has been good and consistent.

There are good shows that HBO has, but there are little things that I would figure such a huge company with so many people to review their app, would give some solid improvement suggestions. So I will give them. Give a “skip” button for intros. I don’t want to have to sit through a long recap of an episode I just watched. Make scrubbing through the episode easier, and I suggest a double tap option to fast forward or rewind. Also, why doesn’t the next episode just come up right away. It’s the slowest process to jump to the next one. These are such simple things a company should know to do. Get some ideas from Netflix or even Hulu. They are way ahead of you guys on making a good video streaming app.

This app is so slow!!! And you can’t even use the forward 15 sec or back 15 sec butttons without the whole show freezing for more than a minute, forcing you to close the whole app and reopen it! Well my first time logging into the app after years of having AT&T Watching on my iPad is great however when I try to send to my tv it crashes ever single time. TV(s) are update, iphone and iPad are updated as well. Don’t have this many issue streaming other services to show on the tv Still a 3 rating cause I get to watch shows I haven’t seen from the beginning of the series. Once that issue is fixed I’ll update to a 5 Unless something else comes along ☺️

I had to go to this format due to HBO’s spat with DISH and I am horribly disappointed in the quality of the app! It stalls repeatedly throughout a show! This doesn’t happen with other apps I stream thru only HBO! They have those of us that want to watch a few of their excellent programs by the proverbial “balls” !

Every time I try to cast something onto my smart tv, the app crashes. The second try doesn’t make it crash, but instead elicits an error message on both phone/tv. Third try is usually successful. This seems like a ridiculous process to go through every time I use the app...many bad reviews on here are due to just poor app design but this is an outright malfunction.

Terrible video quality

Terrible video quality, no 4K. Update: HBO claims that’s it’s my connection but it’s not — Apple TV is hardwired to Fios internet. Netflix for example is perfect even in 4K. HBO simply chooses to not steam high-quality video, lots of artifacts, very poor color, contrast etc. Outrageous considering how expensive it is. Looking forward to canceling once GoT is over.

I can literally view every other series on the platform - any other show that I click on starts immediately, but any game of thrones episode just spins endlessly (why the eff did I pay for this???). HBO. You are seriously the worst. I was willing to pay for a 6 month subscription in order to view 6 episodes of TV. I paid and help up my end of the contract, but HBO did now. Disappointing.

For years now I have thought HBOs app was poor compared to other streaming apps. Kept saying to myself it’s HBO, they will figure it out. It just hasn’t happened though. What’s the deal HBO? Take some notes from Netflix or Amazon. Even Showtimes app is better. Can you at least make the print for show info and description larger. Your HBO and should have higher standards. Very disappointing.
Hot spot problems

App works okay if I stream a show directly to my iPhone. However, when I set up my phone as a hotspot and try to watch on my iPad, it's HBO NO GO. I keep seeing the blue "connecting" dots on my iPad but nothing ever connects. Netflix, Prime and other apps work fine so I feel this must be an HBO issue. We are always traveling so this is how we access our entertainment. It's very difficult to watch GoT battlescenes on an iPhone. Can you help us?

Signed up for HBO now while hubby was in hospital so we could watch on iPad while in the hospital. They advertised that the app would work on my Samsung tv at home. It does not. I contacted customer service and jumped through their hoops to troubleshoot but it does not work. After all that they blithely quoted their “no refund pilicy”. Buyer beware. They are scamming folks $14.99 at a time.

I’ve been an HBO fan for quite some time, ever since I saw The Wire and fell in love with what is undoubtedly the greatest show about police and community ever made. As for this app and it’s subscription that you will purchase with it... It’s worth it, you receive access to every show HBO has ever made in its entirety as well as all future releases including movies and documentaries. It very much is a sort of “Netflix for HBO” If you enjoy the high production quality that HBO is famous for, that Hollywood quality on the small screen... This app just made taking advantage of it that much easier.
Difficult to navigate

I guess I can deal with waiting through the credits for the next episode to play automatically, but it’s frustrating having to turn on the subtitles each time an episode plays. The UI is clunky, I tend to accidentally play videos because of a stray tap and it’s just a pain to return to where you were browsing. But on the bright side, I didn’t realize at first I could use the app because I’m accessing it through prime. I would usually cast from my browser and the video quality was way worse! I’ve found that the video quality has been good and consistent.

I lost access to HBO because of the corporate spat with Dish network. So I finally subscribed through HBO Now, but was astounded how incredibly inferior their UI was compared to their Go app, The whole process of adding watchlist items and navigating was so much better there than this clumsy feeling now I am forced to use now. How is it they offer a parallel app to the same content and generate such a terrible user experience in comparison? But the worst thing: according to their user support there is absolutely no way to disable auto play. That is of significant issue with me and I will most certainly drop this app within a couple of months purely because of this. Even the most egregious streaming apps for forcing auto play down their users throats have come around to allowing it to be disabled.
Parental controls are a pain

The app is pretty easy to browse through and watch but it a huge pain to keep changing parental controls when ever my kids want to watch something and then switch back. It would be a lot easier to allow streaming of restricted content by entering a quick passcode only parents know instead of going to setting and changing everything. This method would also prevent any mistakes in which parents forget to switch restrictions back on after watching. Not well designed for people with kids.
HBO and DishNetwork

I had HBO and others on Dishnetwork. Before I got the Hopper 3. I was sold the 2 year contract with the locked in price. That I also was to keep all my channels plus my HBO and others. But then within less than a year. They had this dispute. And I lost my HBO. And now I’m supposed to be locked in this contract. But DishNetwork is in breach. But won’t let me out. 17 years with DishNetwork and they are getting greedy and dirty. So my advice is stay away from Dishnetwork. Because I can’t even get Cinemax either. And that was also part of my agreement. I’ll be looking into a class action lawsuit and. Filling a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. As well as the attorney general on this matter. Because I’ve been around and around with them on this.
Shows are good, app is not

The app is just clunky and old feeling. You can finally save shows to your list but it’s not even the first thing you see when you open the app. I always need closed captioning but it doesn’t keep them on from episode to episode. Each episode, I have to open the app, let it buffer to show the connection with my TV and then turn on closed captioning again. Then because it only rewinds 10 seconds at a time, I have to keep rewinding, waiting for buffering, rewind again to get back to the beginning (when the closed captioning should have just been on). Not very assessable
Website doesn’t event function properly

Can’t even log into my account because their website is freezing up when I log in and says that I have logged in too many times and locks me out for an hour. Have called customer service several times only for them to admit they don’t know what’s wrong with it. Have tried on mobile device and computers and through the phone with technical support. You’d think with the millions of dollars they are robbing from people they could afford a team of web designers that know what they’re doing. Whatever the issue is I just paid $15 for a streaming service I can’t watch.

It's a minor but annoying problem on my iPhone xs. Considering that my home button activator is a slide up from the bottom of the screen, it makes it very difficult to tap the "sign in" button without hitting the iTunes subscription button or sliding up. Could you provide some space to click sign in if you're already a subscriber? It would make a hug difference for people who will experience the same problem. Thanks!

UX is horrific

I primary use HBO NOW on my Apple TV. I think whatever product manager or designer who came up with the new non-linear user experience should be fired. What a horrible update. Why do I feel this way? Rewatching shows is somewhat painful. The fact that I have to scroll through a grid of episodes rather than go through the list in order makes absolutely no sense. Maybe if I was watching episodes of The Office where I wanted to find a specific one randomly, this would work but when I’m watching chronological series like The Sopranos or GoT this makes me extremely frustrated. Stupid stupid stupid. Great shows. Please rollback the Apple TV app.

The HBO app isn’t working at all, PERIOD, for any given time. As you try to use the app, it doesn’t start up at all. Instead it says, sorry for the inconvenience, to make sure you have a good internet connection. It isn’t my internet. Plain and simple, there app DOESNT WORK and they haven’t tried to resolve this. Game of Thrones has been airing for a couple of weeks now and people from all over are unable to watch it on there devices because HBO has failed to come up with a solution or even more, failed there customers on what has happened and when it’ll be back up. I don’t think HBO cares. Just as long you pay them.

I liked HBO however their app has a lot of flaws. Parental controls are very awkward. You if you set limitations it takes affect for the account and there is no convenient way for the adults to watch shows at a higher rating without going into settings and changing the limitation for the entire account. Other app will let you just entere the PIN number to unlock a show to watch. Please enable this. The List feature is episode specific for tv shows so if you watch a show you can’t use the list to navigate to the next episode.
No Refund Policy & Boring

No matter what your circumstances are, HBO has a 100% no refund policy. I tried out HBO when I was rewarded 3 months free through Verizon up. At the exact same time when the 3 months ended, my HBO app went to black anytime I clicked it on my PS4. I assumed my 3 months free had ended but no! They charged me $15 for an entire month I didn’t even watch 1 second of HBO!! They don’t care what your reasons are, they’ll don’t give refunds. I’ll be reporting them to the better business bureau. . . The only interesting thing on HBO is GAME OF THRONES. I’d rather just buy the last season as it comes out instead of wasting my money on HBO’s boring other shows.
Volume slider bug

Im on an iPhone 7 plus and whenever I use the popup shortcut that takes me to the next episode after finishing the one i just watched, i think it carries over the volume sliders UI from the episode i just watched and adds a new one for the new episode i began watching from the shortcut. I had up to 4 different volume sliders at once, but only one worked. Just thought id let you know to improve the quality of your app.

I like the app and would rate it a 5 star, but the reason I gave it only 3 is because of: 1. Notifications shows me a number, but when I the app, I have no idea what the notification was. Really? Tell me what the notification was for. 2. No news or schedule of times or when things are coming back on the air. A couple months ago, I went in HBO Now hoping to find out when GoT was going to air; why wouldn’t you tell us debut schedules? Instead, I had to web search it and struggle through several sites to find YOUR schedule. This is common sense here - do whatever it takes to keep us in YOUR space, not have us jump out to look for your scheduling. Plus give us fun stuff to read - news about your shows and other web highlights. It’s more that TV nowadays - think outside the box HBO.

I am a US citizen, using US credit cards, and this app works OK when I’m in the United States, but when traveling it is useless as it will not work. So basically, I will be in Brazil for the Game of Thrones season premiere, and was hoping I could watch the opening episode connecting my phone to the television in the hotel. As I usually do with Netflix, when traveling. The whole point of a mobile app is that. After all, if I were at home where I have a regular HBO subscription, I would be watching it on my large screen TV. Basically if it only works well in the United States it is useless.

It just works, I don’t know about any of the other issues that people seem to be having, it sounds more like user fault and people not knowing how to use their smartphones than the app it self. You hit “play”, it plays. You hit “add series to my list” it add’s them. You stop watching your show in any platform and you can resume no problem on another one. I use it on celluar(Verizon unlimited) it plays with no problems, I play while on wifi(Verizon Fios) no problems. So, if you are somewhat competent on how to use technology and understand it, you are gonna have “0” problems. 4 stars due to lack of offline playability. Please developers, I just wanna be able to watch my shows while commuting home from work.

HBO has some of my favorite shows, shows that I’ve watched for years. With Game of Thrones back up and running I downloaded the app and was super excited to stream Game of Thrones and other shows. UNFORTUNATELY, the app crashes constantly. So, I have to keep opening the app and hope that I’ll make it to the show or movie I’d like to watch before it crashes. It’s come a long way since the last time I’ve used it, but it’s disappointing to pay for something that is literally stress enduring.

I would give this app zero stars if I could. I signed up for the free week trial and on the 6th day I spent an hour and a half on the phone to cancel it. It was a huge hassle! I was assured I wouldn’t be charged for it. Looked at my credit card statement last night and I was charged for it. I did an online chat with a rep last night and she said “they don’t do refunds.” After chatting with her for 20 minutes, she told me I would be sent an email from the “higher up’s”. I did not receive said email. Do NOT download this app unless you want to be charged for it.
An endless maze of confusion and frustration

App will not let me login using my tv provider credentials. HBO has told me repeatedly that I can login using my cable subscription info with no issue. (I pay for my HBO through my cable provider). But of course when I login I’m notified that I need to still pay them $15 to watch anything! Uh no. I’m already subscribed and paying for HBO. So I try to log out and sign in again. Nope. HBO App is in an endless loop of lock out until I fork over MORE money per month. This is so frustrating I’m honestly thinking of canceling my subscription altogether.
Billed twice for the same period and no refund

HBO Now has a policy of no refund, which I think is alright. In my case I registered with my email address and credit card, but I was not able to login. Thinking the registration didn’t go through, I registered again with the same email address and credit card and this time it worked. Later it was noticed that I have been billed twice for the same period and when contacted the customer service, got to know that there was a typo in the email address used for initial registration. Even after identifying the issue, what the customer service executive could do was to repeatedly say “HBO Now” has a no refund policy”. From company’s stand point what he did would be right. But as a customer I feel cheated by billing from same credit card for the same period for the same service and not giving a refund.
App crashes when connecting to Sony TV

It was working last week when I watched the GoT season premiere, but last night it just kept crashing. Not sure if there was a recent update between last Sunday and last night on this app or my Sony’s firmware to cause this crashing issue. HBO Now app on my Sony has serious buffer issues but that’s another issue separate from this iOS app. I had to do a work around by just connecting in my laptop to my tv which basically defeats the purpose of having smart devices connecting with each other.
Error 102 - it crashes way too often to enjoy any show

I’ve tried everything - restarting my phone, router, TV and uninstalling the APP. Still, every 10-15 minutes, the same error occurs - Error 102 crashing the stream on my TV and forcing me to restart the show. I have NEVER gotten thru an entire episode of any show without it crashing at least once. It’s sad because I love HBO shows, but I’m uninstalling and canceling as soon as GOT is over. Steaming a show on my TV is frustrating as hell and this is the only app with this problem.

The app is pretty good and has great movies and tv shows but my one complaint is the lack of multiple profiles. Let’s say I’m watching GOT and am on ep.5 than someone else watches it and they are on ep.6 I have to find were I last left off and that is very annoying it would be great if you guys could make multiple profiles a feature.

Try this on Apple TV with the redesign: 1. Select show on home screen 2. Try to change to another episode in the same season It’s impossible, you’re always taken to Season 1, and the episode that’s on top of the season list is reselected! Goto search. Can you use Siri to dictate...anything? No, some genius decided to implement their own keyboard, the same layout as native tvOS, but no Siri dictation 🤯 Why can’t I mark an episode watched? Why isn’t continue watching the top section on the Home screen? Why isn’t My List another section on the Home screen? Why aren’t I shown what shows are most recent on the Home screen instead of selecting by show first? I watch GoT and Last Week Tonight mostly right now, why aren’t the actual episodes right on top?!?

There is no section inside the app which displays the list of the shows that I am currently watching. Every time I come back, I have to go to my list and start the show. Same problem in roku version of hbo now (which I actually use way more than ios version). How are you expecting to compete with Netflix when your app itself is so counter intuitive and pedestrian.

While the user interface has improved a lot and everything looks wonderful it’s completely non functional as you have to leave the app and go to a website if you want to update information, for example billing information can’t be updated in the app which is beyond stupid, don’t you want your money HBO? I’m on the fence about paying for HBO now anyway so if it expires whatever, I’m not jumping through hoops to give my money up.

So I would love to be able to actually use the app and leave a good review, but every time I go to open it, the app crashes before it even gets anywhere. I get a split second of the black screen that says HBO NOW, and then it crashes back to my home screen. I’m using a new iPad, and I’ve followed all the troubleshooting tips on their website, and nothing, still doesn’t work. Very irritating! Kind of frustrated I paid for the subscription and it can’t watch it now.

I love the movies and tv shows they have. The one thing that is seriously annoying is that when you rewatch something you don’t get an option to play from beginning it starts off at the ending credits if you select the next episode towards the end, it works ok when you leave an episode midway. It’s annoying having to manually start from the beginning.
It won’t let you check billing information

You can click on it in the app and it just tells you to go to the website. But as soon as you do all it does is send you back to the app. Yah need to fix this ASAP! I shouldn’t have to call every time if I want to make an adjustment to my billing Information(turn off auto renew because yah just turn it on without request) or for somebody that wants to cancel the trial.

I understand I live in the middle of nowhere so my WiFi isn’t the greatest so waiting for things to buffer is gonna happen but I have zero problems with my Netflix so I don’t understand why I have such a hard time with anything HBO related (not to mention it’s a dollar cheaper with a thousand more options). I had the same problem with HBO GO and now with HBO NOW. I sear if it takes me three hours to watch GOT I’m gonna lose my cool with you guys. You and Dish network really need to figure things out!!!!

The content and services have been great. My only complaint has been with recent updates. My Apple TV - HBO Now app does not support matching range & frame rate. It automatically plays content in HDR which is not the original format of HBO’s content. This ruins the quality of the video and I have to manually switch my video settings to SDR. If you guys could fix this it would be great. Thanks!!

I initially wanted to try this app because it advertises the ability to watch episodes of shows, such as “Game Of Thrones,” the day of its premiere. I downloaded the app with this expectation, and obviously what is available, are the seasons they’ve been previously aired. The app would be much improved (as an insensitive,) if the programming offered, is for early viewing the day of its release, not so much after its been aired on the network.

I normally do not leave reviews on business pages let alone apps, but this is ridiculous I've only had this app for a week and I've only been able to watch 1 episode of a series before it kicked me off the app, made me attempt to re-sign in. When I go to choose my provider it just redirects me to the home screen without actually allowing me to sign in. I'm extremely disappointed and I hope you guys get this bug fixed asap!

The new user interface is not user friendly. It is anything but seamless, I feel like I have zero control over my remote control when using this app. The way in which the episodes of each series is organized needs to be re-looked at. Left, right, up, down - its all over the place. HBO - you have my favorite shows but my least favorite app. 😑

Had pretty good luck with it so far, except I can’t watch one episode of GoT - the video won’t load or play. Have tried deleting the app and reinstalling, to no avail. Everything else seems to be working just fine, so it’s frustrating to have this one ep not play!

I consistently get errors like Error 102 or “oops something went wrong” and the app closes itself. My chromecast works perfectly with Netflix and I have had no issues with it. Therefore, my conclusion is that your app is seriously lacking and needs work. The idea is wonderful and I love the convenience of streaming from my phone but I’d love it more if it worked properly and consistently.

Love the shows on it but don’t like the app. It’s buggy where sometimes if I exit the app and close it out when I open it back up have to keep logging back in and also no skip intro button. I can’t imagine that’s a lot to ask for. Besides that the shows are great just fix the app.
HBO now shuts down

This app was great at first, when it works that is. More times than not I try to stream/cast it to my TV (because we have DishNetwork and they don’t have HBO) the app shuts off. As soon as I press the cast button the app closes completely and then I have to restart it!!! So frustrating! I’ve called the HBO app customer service and they say they don’t know why it does that, the same for the TV provider.

I was casually watching episodes of Game of Thrones when suddenly it told me that it was unable to play the video and went on to a black screen. I tried to download the app again but it’s still black and unresponsive after resetting and downloading the app. I will definitely cancel my subscription when the Game of Thrones season ends. It’s just not worth to pay for HBO. Now this happens to my app which pretty much strengthens my urge to cancel.

This app is so slow!!! And you can’t even use the forward 15 sec or back 15 sec butttons without the whole show freezing for more than a minute, forcing you to close the whole app and reopen it! Plus there is not skip intro button so you either have to power through it or take your chances on the whole app freezing. HBO got money I know they do, clearly y’all can afford a better app bc this is painful. Seriously.

They say they will CHARGE you AFTER your expiration day but they really CHARGE you on the day of and they have a no refund policy. I would think they would of refunded since they said they would charge after the expiration day but they charged on the day of the expiration. Don’t let them screw you like they did to me.

Why am I unable to watch the latest episode of VEEP through my app on AppleTV? The app will not allow me to select it. I can view it on my phone and iPad just fine. I am new to HBO Now. I have always accessed through HBO GO but my provider is DISH and I have had to switch over. Will I be able to watch Game of Thrones live as the episode airs?

My husband got the app for our phones and fire stick to watch on our TV. We have to constantly wait for the shows to buffer. One time we timed and it took 30 minutes for the show to even start because it was buffering for so long. It happens on our phones and TV. To help with the buffering we close the app, restart the TV and phones to see if that helps....it does not. It is really disappointing.

App works okay if I stream a show directly to my iPhone. However, when I set up my phone as a hotspot and try to watch on my iPad, it's HBO NO GO. I keep seeing the blue "connecting" dots on my iPad but nothing ever connects. Netflix, Prime and other apps work fine so I feel this must be an HBO issue. We are always traveling so this is how we access our entertainment. It's very difficult to watch GoT battlescenes on an iPhone. Can you help us?

HBO charges premium prices. Content is good, but the delivery is so so miserable. Need to be charging $7.99/month till a decent product is put together. Can not pay such high prices for such low quality. Yay, they used to give 30 free. Not going to bother signing up. The price is higher and less is given to see if I like it. Feels like taking care of customers is being sacrificed for more money. Can’t support that. Especially when the delivery is awful. The HBO website is absolutely horrible. Want to rewind something in full screen? No, sorry. The buttons are there, but play/pause is the only thing that happens no matter where you click. Want to watch the next episode? Good luck finding it, and getting frustrated when everything on the screen is not what you want, and go through 10 different links before you get there. The next episode shows up on the bottom of the web page, which is somewhat helpful, unless you are in full screen because clicking it only pauses what you are currently watching! Exit full screen, and the link goes away. No way am I going to pay.

I cannot sign in. Force quit the app and reopened it. Turned my iPhone off and back on. Deleted the app and reinstalled. I enter my credentials and the sign in button illuminates but nothing happens when I press on it.

I m using YouTube, Netflix, Hulu without any lag or crashes but with HBO now its very laggy and crashes once during every episode. Once I click on cast it will take 45 to 120 seconds to start playing on TV and if it were due to network I would have experienced it with other streaming apps too, so it must be app.

I’ve tried everything - restarting my phone, router, TV and uninstalling the APP. Still, every 10-15 minutes, the same error occurs - Error 102 crashing the stream on my TV and forcing me to restart the show. I have NEVER gotten thru an entire episode of any show without it crashing at least once. It’s sad because I love HBO shows, but I’m uninstalling and canceling as soon as GOT is over. Steaming a show on my TV is frustrating as hell and this is the only app with this problem.

The HBO app isn’t working at all, PERIOD, for any given time. As you try to use the app, it doesn’t start up at all. Instead it says, sorry for the inconvenience, to make sure you have a good internet connection. It isn’t my internet. Plain and simple, there app DOESNT WORK and they haven’t tried to resolve this. Game of Thrones has been airing for a couple of weeks now and people from all over are unable to watch it on there devices because HBO has failed to come up with a solution or even more, failed there customers on what has happened and when it’ll be back up. I don’t think HBO cares. Just as long you pay them.

This latest version of the app is on par with the “not good” Hulu app. Content is not the question, the app used to be easy to navigate and now is not. Should I need to make multiple up/down/left/right movements in uneasily distinguishable in your UI to navigate...or just left/right without going into additional vertical layers? Just like Hulu, looks cool and detracts from the overall usability.

I have always loved and still do love HBO programming but this app is killing me with having to watch initial credits! C’mon HBO...I pay more for your service on the app than Netflix or Hulu and they BOTH have “skip intro” features. Though I’m not an app developer, I’d imagine it’s not that difficult to add in that feature for viewers. Hook your fans up!

I subscribed and downloaded this app in hopes of finishing Game of Thrones season eight. However, the app is totally in accessible using iOS voiceover screen reader. HBO, you must do a better job for those of us who are visually impaired. Video descriptions is not even on your radar. But, having an app that is totally in accessible is inexcusable.

Since they changed the interface, HBO now has been less user friendly. If you want the latest episode and it doesn’t automatically show on featured you have to scroll passed season 1. Then it goes to Season 1 instead of the current season. If you scroll fast enough it may not go back to the first season but it’s really hit or miss. Please fix this hot garbage.

I am able to cast to my Chromecasts from my phone in other apps, and from other devices, but every time I try to cast this app to Chromecast in this version, the app crashes and the Chromecast says "something has give wrong." Not the best bug to let out in the world during the conclusion of one of your most popular series of all time. Guess I'll just watch it on my phone screen.

Deleting after Game of Thrones. I’m a cord cutter so I thought this app would be nice to use. Black screen 75% of the time. No back arrow to escape. No option but to restart the app and hope. I like the app and would rate it a 5 star, but the reason I gave it only 3 is because of: 1. Notifications shows me a number, but when I the app, I have no idea what the notification was. Really? Tell me what the notification was for. 2. No news or schedule of times or when things are coming back on the air. A couple months ago, I went in HBO Now hoping to find out when GoT was going to air; why wouldn’t you tell us debut schedules? Instead, I had to web search it and struggle through several sites to find YOUR schedule. This is common sense here - do whatever it takes to keep us in YOUR space, not have us jump out to look for your scheduling. Plus give us fun stuff to read - news about your shows and other web highlights. It’s more that TV nowadays - think outside the box HBO.
Billed twice for the same period and no refund

HBO Now has a policy of no refund, which I think is alright. In my case I registered with my email address and credit card, but I was not able to login. Thinking the registration didn’t go through, I registered again with the same email address and credit card and this time it worked. Later it was noticed that I have been billed twice for the same period and when contacted the customer service, got to know that there was a typo in the email address used for initial registration. Even after identifying the issue, what the customer service executive could do was to repeatedly say “HBO Now” has a no refund policy”. From company’s stand point what he did would be right. But as a customer I feel cheated by billing from same credit card for the same period for the same service and not giving a refund.

I’ve been an HBO fan for quite some time, ever since I saw The Wire and fell in love with what is undoubtedly the greatest show about police and community ever made. As for this app and it’s subscription that you will purchase with it... It’s worth it, you receive access to every show HBO has ever made in its entirety as well as all future releases including movies and documentaries. It very much is a sort of “Netflix for HBO” If you enjoy the high production quality that HBO is famous for, that Hollywood quality on the small screen... This app just made taking advantage of it that much easier.

I was casually watching episodes of Game of Thrones when suddenly it told me that it was unable to play the video and went on to a black screen. I tried to download the app again but it’s still black and unresponsive after resetting and downloading the app. I will definitely cancel my subscription when the Game of Thrones season ends. It’s just not worth to pay for HBO. Now this happens to my app which pretty much strengthens my urge to cancel.

Dear lord! This is the only media streaming app that won’t consistently play. I have zero problems with any other media app (ie. Netflix, Hulu, youtube). I had pretty good WiFi and LTE data. It doesn’t work for either. Why am I paying for a service I can’t use? The 2 star over all rating for this app shows the developers they need to make some serious changes.

I normally do not leave reviews on business pages let alone apps, but this is ridiculous I've only had this app for a week and I've only been able to watch 1 episode of a series before it kicked me off the app, made me attempt to re-sign in. When I go to choose my provider it just redirects me to the home screen without actually allowing me to sign in. I'm extremely disappointed and I hope you guys get this bug fixed asap!

Try this on Apple TV with the redesign: 1. Select show on home screen 2. Try to change to another episode in the same season It’s impossible, you’re always taken to Season 1, and the episode that’s on top of the season list is reselected! Goto search. Can you use Siri to dictate...anything? No, some genius decided to implement their own keyboard, the same layout as native tvOS, but no Siri dictation 🤯 Why can’t I mark an episode watched? Why isn’t continue watching the top section on the Home screen? Why isn’t My List another section on the Home screen? Why aren’t I shown what shows are most recent on the Home screen instead of selecting by show first? I watch GoT and Last Week Tonight mostly right now, why aren’t the actual episodes right on top?!?

I wanted to get back to GOT but I cut the cord already so had no choice but to get HBO Now. To my disappointment, i realized that the app does not stream 5.1 audio, instead, all I get is Stereo. My device is a Sony TV. All other apps such as Netflix are streaming 5.1. I checked all my settings on TV but in vain and its just this app that is the issue. Frustrated and very disappointed. I gave 2 stars due to GOT.

I really wanted to like this app. I got it mainly because Game of Thrones. The app works fine on my phone but I don’t always want to watch on my phone. So when I try to watch it on my TCL tv it constantly crashes saying “check connection”. I have Netflix and Hulu, neither ever crash. It’s really annoying when it happens and it happens multiple times during the show. I tried looking up in troubleshooting but there is no info for my particular tv. Gonna have to cancel my subscription.

I guess I can deal with waiting through the credits for the next episode to play automatically, but it’s frustrating having to turn on the subtitles each time an episode plays. The UI is clunky, I tend to accidentally play videos because of a stray tap and it’s just a pain to return to where you were browsing. But on the bright side, I didn’t realize at first I could use the app because I’m accessing it through prime. I would usually cast from my browser and the video quality was way worse! I’ve found that the video quality has been good and consistent.

So I will give them. Give a “skip” button for intros. I don’t want to have to sit through a long recap of an episode I just watched. Make scrubbing through the episode easier, and I suggest a double tap option to fast forward or rewind. Also, why doesn’t the next episode just come up right away. It’s the slowest process to jump to the next one. These are such simple things a company should know to do. Get some ideas from Netflix or even Hulu. They are way ahead of you guys on making a good video streaming app.

This app is so slow!!! And you can’t even use the forward 15 sec or back 15 sec butttons without the whole show freezing for more than a minute, forcing you to close the whole app and reopen it! Plus there is not skip intro button so you either have to power through it or take your chances on the whole app freezing. HBO got money I know they do, clearly y’all can afford a better app bc this is painful. Seriously.

Well my first time logging into the app after years of having AT&T Watching on my iPad is great however when I try to send to my tv it crashes ever single time. TV(s) are update, iphone and iPad are updated as well. Don’t have this many issue streaming other services to show on the tv Still a 3 rating cause I get to watch shows I haven’t seen from the beginning of the series. Once that issue is fixed I’ll update to a 5 Unless something else comes along ☺️

Every time I try to cast something onto my smart tv, the app crashes. The second try doesn’t make it crash, but instead elicits an error message on both phone/tv. Third try is usually successful. This seems like a ridiculous process to go through every time I use the app...many bad reviews on here are due to just poor app design but this is an outright malfunction.

Terrible video quality, no 4K. Update: HBO claims that’s it’s my connection but it’s not — Apple TV is hardwired to Fios internet. Netflix for example is perfect even in 4K. HBO simply chooses to not steam high-quality video, lots of artifacts, very poor color, contrast etc. Outrageous considering how expensive it is. Looking forward to canceling once GoT is over.

I can literally view every other series on the platform - any other show that I click on starts immediately, but any game of thrones episode just spins endlessly (why the eff did I pay for this???). HBO. You are seriously the worst. I was willing to pay for a 6 month subscription in order to view 6 episodes of TV. I paid and help up my end of the contract, but HBO did now. Disappointing.

For years now I have thought HBOs app was poor compared to other streaming apps. Kept saying to myself it’s HBO, they will figure it out. It just hasn’t happened though. What’s the deal HBO? Take some notes from Netflix or Amazon. Even Showtimes app is better. Can you at least make the print for show info and description larger. Your HBO and should have higher standards. Very disappointing.
Hot spot problems

App works okay if I stream a show directly to my iPhone. However, when I set up my phone as a hotspot and try to watch on my iPad, it's HBO NO GO. I keep seeing the blue "connecting" dots on my iPad but nothing ever connects. Netflix, Prime and other apps work fine so I feel this must be an HBO issue. We are always traveling so this is how we access our entertainment. It's very difficult to watch GoT battlescenes on an iPhone. Can you help us?

Signed up for HBO now while hubby was in hospital so we could watch on iPad while in the hospital. They advertised that the app would work on my Samsung tv at home. It does not. I contacted customer service and jumped through their hoops to troubleshoot but it does not work. After all that they blithely quoted their “no refund pilicy”. Buyer beware. They are scamming folks $14.99 at a time.

I’ve been an HBO fan for quite some time, ever since I saw The Wire and fell in love with what is undoubtedly the greatest show about police and community ever made. As for this app and it’s subscription that you will purchase with it... It’s worth it, you receive access to every show HBO has ever made in its entirety as well as all future releases including movies and documentaries. It very much is a sort of “Netflix for HBO” If you enjoy the high production quality that HBO is famous for, that Hollywood quality on the small screen... This app just made taking advantage of it that much easier.
Difficult to navigate

I guess I can deal with waiting through the credits for the next episode to play automatically, but it’s frustrating having to turn on the subtitles each time an episode plays. The UI is clunky, I tend to accidentally play videos because of a stray tap and it’s just a pain to return to where you were browsing. But on the bright side, I didn’t realize at first I could use the app because I’m accessing it through prime. I would usually cast from my browser and the video quality was way worse! I’ve found that the video quality has been good and consistent.

I lost access to HBO because of the corporate spat with Dish network. So I finally subscribed through HBO Now, but was astounded how incredibly inferior their UI was compared to their Go app, The whole process of adding watchlist items and navigating was so much better there than this clumsy feeling now I am forced to use now. How is it they offer a parallel app to the same content and generate such a terrible user experience in comparison? But the worst thing: according to their user support there is absolutely no way to disable auto play. That is of significant issue with me and I will most certainly drop this app within a couple of months purely because of this. Even the most egregious streaming apps for forcing auto play down their users throats have come around to allowing it to be disabled.
Parental controls are a pain

The app is pretty easy to browse through and watch but it a huge pain to keep changing parental controls when ever my kids want to watch something and then switch back. It would be a lot easier to allow streaming of restricted content by entering a quick passcode only parents know instead of going to setting and changing everything. This method would also prevent any mistakes in which parents forget to switch restrictions back on after watching. Not well designed for people with kids.
HBO and DishNetwork

I had HBO and others on Dishnetwork. Before I got the Hopper 3. I was sold the 2 year contract with the locked in price. That I also was to keep all my channels plus my HBO and others. But then within less than a year. They had this dispute. And I lost my HBO. And now I’m supposed to be locked in this contract. But DishNetwork is in breach. But won’t let me out. 17 years with DishNetwork and they are getting greedy and dirty. So my advice is stay away from Dishnetwork. Because I can’t even get Cinemax either. And that was also part of my agreement. I’ll be looking into a class action lawsuit and. Filling a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. As well as the attorney general on this matter. Because I’ve been around and around with them on this.

The app is just clunky and old feeling. You can finally save shows to your list but it’s not even the first thing you see when you open the app. I always need closed captioning but it doesn’t keep them on from episode to episode. Each episode, I have to open the app, let it buffer to show the connection with my TV and then turn on closed captioning again. Then because it only rewinds 10 seconds at a time, I have to keep rewinding, waiting for buffering, rewind again to get back to the beginning (when the closed captioning should have just been on). Not very assessable
Website doesn’t event function properly

Can’t even log into my account because their website is freezing up when I log in and says that I have logged in too many times and locks me out for an hour. Have called customer service several times only for them to admit they don’t know what’s wrong with it. Have tried on mobile device and computers and through the phone with technical support. You’d think with the millions of dollars they are robbing from people they could afford a team of web designers that know what they’re doing. Whatever the issue is I just paid $15 for a streaming service I can’t watch.

It's a minor but annoying problem on my iPhone xs. Considering that my home button activator is a slide up from the bottom of the screen, it makes it very difficult to tap the "sign in" button without hitting the iTunes subscription button or sliding up. Could you provide some space to click sign in if you're already a subscriber? It would make a hug difference for people who will experience the same problem. Thanks!

UX is horrific

I primary use HBO NOW on my Apple TV. I think whatever product manager or designer who came up with the new non-linear user experience should be fired. What a horrible update. Why do I feel this way? Rewatching shows is somewhat painful. The fact that I have to scroll through a grid of episodes rather than go through the list in order makes absolutely no sense. Maybe if I was watching episodes of The Office where I wanted to find a specific one randomly, this would work but when I’m watching chronological series like The Sopranos or GoT this makes me extremely frustrated. Stupid stupid stupid. Great shows. Please rollback the Apple TV app.

The HBO app isn’t working at all, PERIOD, for any given time. As you try to use the app, it doesn’t start up at all. Instead it says, sorry for the inconvenience, to make sure you have a good internet connection. It isn’t my internet. Plain and simple, there app DOESNT WORK and they haven’t tried to resolve this. Game of Thrones has been airing for a couple of weeks now and people from all over are unable to watch it on there devices because HBO has failed to come up with a solution or even more, failed there customers on what has happened and when it’ll be back up. I don’t think HBO cares. Just as long you pay them.

I liked HBO however their app has a lot of flaws. Parental controls are very awkward. You if you set limitations it takes affect for the account and there is no convenient way for the adults to watch shows at a higher rating without going into settings and changing the limitation for the entire account. Other app will let you just entere the PIN number to unlock a show to watch. Please enable this. The List feature is episode specific for tv shows so if you watch a show you can’t use the list to navigate to the next episode.
No Refund Policy & Boring

No matter what your circumstances are, HBO has a 100% no refund policy. I tried out HBO when I was rewarded 3 months free through Verizon up. At the exact same time when the 3 months ended, my HBO app went to black anytime I clicked it on my PS4. I assumed my 3 months free had ended but no! They charged me $15 for an entire month I didn’t even watch 1 second of HBO!! They don’t care what your reasons are, they’ll don’t give refunds. I’ll be reporting them to the better business bureau. . . The only interesting thing on HBO is GAME OF THRONES. I’d rather just buy the last season as it comes out instead of wasting my money on HBO’s boring other shows.
Volume slider bug

Im on an iPhone 7 plus and whenever I use the popup shortcut that takes me to the next episode after finishing the one i just watched, i think it carries over the volume sliders UI from the episode i just watched and adds a new one for the new episode i began watching from the shortcut. I had up to 4 different volume sliders at once, but only one worked. Just thought id let you know to improve the quality of your app.

I like the app and would rate it a 5 star, but the reason I gave it only 3 is because of: 1. Notifications shows me a number, but when I the app, I have no idea what the notification was. Really? Tell me what the notification was for. 2. No news or schedule of times or when things are coming back on the air. A couple months ago, I went in HBO Now hoping to find out when GoT was going to air; why wouldn’t you tell us debut schedules? Instead, I had to web search it and struggle through several sites to find YOUR schedule. This is common sense here - do whatever it takes to keep us in YOUR space, not have us jump out to look for your scheduling. Plus give us fun stuff to read - news about your shows and other web highlights. It’s more that TV nowadays - think outside the box HBO.

I am a US citizen, using US credit cards, and this app works OK when I’m in the United States, but when traveling it is useless as it will not work. So basically, I will be in Brazil for the Game of Thrones season premiere, and was hoping I could watch the opening episode connecting my phone to the television in the hotel. As I usually do with Netflix, when traveling. The whole point of a mobile app is that. After all, if I were at home where I have a regular HBO subscription, I would be watching it on my large screen TV. Basically if it only works well in the United States it is useless.

It just works, I don’t know about any of the other issues that people seem to be having, it sounds more like user fault and people not knowing how to use their smartphones than the app it self. You hit “play”, it plays. You hit “add series to my list” it add’s them. You stop watching your show in any platform and you can resume no problem on another one. I use it on celluar(Verizon unlimited) it plays with no problems, I play while on wifi(Verizon Fios) no problems. So, if you are somewhat competent on how to use technology and understand it, you are gonna have “0” problems. 4 stars due to lack of offline playability. Please developers, I just wanna be able to watch my shows while commuting home from work.

HBO has some of my favorite shows, shows that I’ve watched for years. With Game of Thrones back up and running I downloaded the app and was super excited to stream Game of Thrones and other shows. UNFORTUNATELY, the app crashes constantly. So, I have to keep opening the app and hope that I’ll make it to the show or movie I’d like to watch before it crashes. It’s come a long way since the last time I’ve used it, but it’s disappointing to pay for something that is literally stress enduring.

I would give this app zero stars if I could. I signed up for the free week trial and on the 6th day I spent an hour and a half on the phone to cancel it. It was a huge hassle! I was assured I wouldn’t be charged for it. Looked at my credit card statement last night and I was charged for it. I did an online chat with a rep last night and she said “they don’t do refunds.” After chatting with her for 20 minutes, she told me I would be sent an email from the “higher up’s”. I did not receive said email. Do NOT download this app unless you want to be charged for it.
An endless maze of confusion and frustration

App will not let me login using my tv provider credentials. HBO has told me repeatedly that I can login using my cable subscription info with no issue. (I pay for my HBO through my cable provider). But of course when I login I’m notified that I need to still pay them $15 to watch anything! Uh no. I’m already subscribed and paying for HBO. So I try to log out and sign in again. Nope. HBO App is in an endless loop of lock out until I fork over MORE money per month. This is so frustrating I’m honestly thinking of canceling my subscription altogether.
Billed twice for the same period and no refund

HBO Now has a policy of no refund, which I think is alright. In my case I registered with my email address and credit card, but I was not able to login. Thinking the registration didn’t go through, I registered again with the same email address and credit card and this time it worked. Later it was noticed that I have been billed twice for the same period and when contacted the customer service, got to know that there was a typo in the email address used for initial registration. Even after identifying the issue, what the customer service executive could do was to repeatedly say “HBO Now” has a no refund policy”. From company’s stand point what he did would be right. But as a customer I feel cheated by billing from same credit card for the same period for the same service and not giving a refund.
App crashes when connecting to Sony TV

It was working last week when I watched the GoT season premiere, but last night it just kept crashing. Not sure if there was a recent update between last Sunday and last night on this app or my Sony’s firmware to cause this crashing issue. HBO Now app on my Sony has serious buffer issues but that’s another issue separate from this iOS app. I had to do a work around by just connecting in my laptop to my tv which basically defeats the purpose of having smart devices connecting with each other.
Error 102 - it crashes way too often to enjoy any show

I’ve tried everything - restarting my phone, router, TV and uninstalling the APP. Still, every 10-15 minutes, the same error occurs - Error 102 crashing the stream on my TV and forcing me to restart the show. I have NEVER gotten thru an entire episode of any show without it crashing at least once. It’s sad because I love HBO shows, but I’m uninstalling and canceling as soon as GOT is over. Steaming a show on my TV is frustrating as hell and this is the only app with this problem.

The app is pretty good and has great movies and tv shows but my one complaint is the lack of multiple profiles. Let’s say I’m watching GOT and am on ep.5 than someone else watches it and they are on ep.6 I have to find were I last left off and that is very annoying it would be great if you guys could make multiple profiles a feature.

Try this on Apple TV with the redesign: 1. Select show on home screen 2. Try to change to another episode in the same season It’s impossible, you’re always taken to Season 1, and the episode that’s on top of the season list is reselected! Goto search. Can you use Siri to dictate...anything? No, some genius decided to implement their own keyboard, the same layout as native tvOS, but no Siri dictation 🤯 Why can’t I mark an episode watched? Why isn’t continue watching the top section on the Home screen? Why isn’t My List another section on the Home screen? Why aren’t I shown what shows are most recent on the Home screen instead of selecting by show first? I watch GoT and Last Week Tonight mostly right now, why aren’t the actual episodes right on top?!?

There is no section inside the app which displays the list of the shows that I am currently watching. Every time I come back, I have to go to my list and start the show. Same problem in roku version of hbo now (which I actually use way more than ios version). How are you expecting to compete with Netflix when your app itself is so counter intuitive and pedestrian.

While the user interface has improved a lot and everything looks wonderful it’s completely non functional as you have to leave the app and go to a website if you want to update information, for example billing information can’t be updated in the app which is beyond stupid, don’t you want your money HBO? I’m on the fence about paying for HBO now anyway so if it expires whatever, I’m not jumping through hoops to give my money up.

So I would love to be able to actually use the app and leave a good review, but every time I go to open it, the app crashes before it even gets anywhere. I get a split second of the black screen that says HBO NOW, and then it crashes back to my home screen. I’m using a new iPad, and I’ve followed all the troubleshooting tips on their website, and nothing, still doesn’t work. Very irritating! Kind of frustrated I paid for the subscription and it can’t watch it now.

I love the movies and tv shows they have. The one thing that is seriously annoying is that when you rewatch something you don’t get an option to play from beginning it starts off at the ending credits if you select the next episode towards the end, it works ok when you leave an episode midway. It’s annoying having to manually start from the beginning.

You can click on it in the app and it just tells you to go to the website. But as soon as you do all it does is send you back to the app. Yah need to fix this ASAP! I shouldn’t have to call every time if I want to make an adjustment to my billing Information(turn off auto renew because yah just turn it on without request) or for somebody that wants to cancel the trial.

I understand I live in the middle of nowhere so my WiFi isn’t the greatest so waiting for things to buffer is gonna happen but I have zero problems with my Netflix so I don’t understand why I have such a hard time with anything HBO related (not to mention it’s a dollar cheaper with a thousand more options). I had the same problem with HBO GO and now with HBO NOW. I sear if it takes me three hours to watch GOT I’m gonna lose my cool with you guys. You and Dish network really need to figure things out!!!!

The content and services have been great. My only complaint has been with recent updates. My Apple TV - HBO Now app does not support matching range & frame rate. It automatically plays content in HDR which is not the original format of HBO’s content. This ruins the quality of the video and I have to manually switch my video settings to SDR. If you guys could fix this it would be great. Thanks!!

I initially wanted to try this app because it advertises the ability to watch episodes of shows, such as “Game Of Thrones,” the day of its premiere. I downloaded the app with this expectation, and obviously what is available, are the seasons they’ve been previously aired. The app would be much improved (as an insensitive,) if the programming offered, is for early viewing the day of its release, not so much after its been aired on the network.

I normally do not leave reviews on business pages let alone apps, but this is ridiculous I've only had this app for a week and I've only been able to watch 1 episode of a series before it kicked me off the app, made me attempt to re-sign in. When I go to choose my provider it just redirects me to the home screen without actually allowing me to sign in. I'm extremely disappointed and I hope you guys get this bug fixed asap!

The new user interface is not user friendly. It is anything but seamless, I feel like I have zero control over my remote control when using this app. The way in which the episodes of each series is organized needs to be re-looked at. Left, right, up, down - its all over the place. HBO - you have my favorite shows but my least favorite app. 😑

Had pretty good luck with it so far, except I can’t watch one episode of GoT - the video won’t load or play. Have tried deleting the app and reinstalling, to no avail. Everything else seems to be working just fine, so it’s frustrating to have this one ep not play!
App does not function well

I consistently get errors like Error 102 or “oops something went wrong” and the app closes itself. My chromecast works perfectly with Netflix and I have had no issues with it. Therefore, my conclusion is that your app is seriously lacking and needs work. The idea is wonderful and I love the convenience of streaming from my phone but I’d love it more if it worked properly and consistently.

I’ve watched Game of Thrones on this app now for going on 3 seasons now and it’s been a lifesaver! I don’t know what all these negative reviews are about but I’ve no problems whatsoever watching it on my Fire TV and getting ready to again Sunday! Can’t wait!
Good but can be better

Love the shows on it but don’t like the app. It’s buggy where sometimes if I exit the app and close it out when I open it back up have to keep logging back in and also no skip intro button. I can’t imagine that’s a lot to ask for. Besides that the shows are great just fix the app.
HBO now shuts down

This app was great at first, when it works that is. More times than not I try to stream/cast it to my TV (because we have DishNetwork and they don’t have HBO) the app shuts off. As soon as I press the cast button the app closes completely and then I have to restart it!!! So frustrating! I’ve called the HBO app customer service and they say they don’t know why it does that, the same for the TV provider.
Application is unresponsive

I was casually watching episodes of Game of Thrones when suddenly it told me that it was unable to play the video and went on to a black screen. I tried to download the app again but it’s still black and unresponsive after resetting and downloading the app. I will definitely cancel my subscription when the Game of Thrones season ends. It’s just not worth to pay for HBO. Now this happens to my app which pretty much strengthens my urge to cancel.

I love how they set up the lists and sections very easy to use and much better than other streaming apps where It takes me a while to find what I was looking for, i.e. continue watching lists

This app is so slow!!! And you can’t even use the forward 15 sec or back 15 sec butttons without the whole show freezing for more than a minute, forcing you to close the whole app and reopen it! Plus there is not skip intro button so you either have to power through it or take your chances on the whole app freezing. HBO got money I know they do, clearly y’all can afford a better app bc this is painful. Seriously.

If you decide to cancel because like me I didn’t like the app, make sure you do it at least 48 hrs before your expiration day. They say they will CHARGE you AFTER your expiration day but they really CHARGE you on the day of and they have a no refund policy. I would think they would of refunded since they said they would charge after the expiration day but they charged on the day of the expiration. Don’t let them screw you like they did to me.

Why am I unable to watch the latest episode of VEEP through my app on AppleTV? The app will not allow me to select it. I can view it on my phone and iPad just fine. I am new to HBO Now. I have always accessed through HBO GO but my provider is DISH and I have had to switch over. Will I be able to watch Game of Thrones live as the episode airs?
Buffering

My husband got the app for our phones and fire stick to watch on our TV. We have to constantly wait for the shows to buffer. One time we timed and it took 30 minutes for the show to even start because it was buffering for so long. It happens on our phones and TV. To help with the buffering we close the app, restart the TV and phones to see if that helps....it does not. It is really disappointing.

My favorite service, the app is lacking some minor features (like continue watching section) but overall it’s nice and the whole experience deserves the highest rating
Hot spot problems

App works okay if I stream a show directly to my iPhone. However, when I set up my phone as a hotspot and try to watch on my iPad, it's HBO NO GO. I keep seeing the blue "connecting" dots on my iPad but nothing ever connects. Netflix, Prime and other apps work fine so I feel this must be an HBO issue. We are always traveling so this is how we access our entertainment. It's very difficult to watch GoT battlescenes on an iPhone. Can you help us?
