HBO Now’s app is frozen in time. If you want to know what it was like to discover and watch content in 2013, this is the app for you. It is amazing that HBO still does not support offline viewing, the experience is buggy, and it’s so hard to find thing. You need to do better.

Have more problems with this app not keeping my place when watching on my phone, which eats up data. On my home tv it has way too many problems loading a video and just keeps timing out. I watch videos on it but it takes a lot of fiddling and powering on and off. Tried mirroring my phone to the tv (played fine on phone) but keeps starting and then saying it has problems and stops working. Most annoying app to date. And it is a paid app. Also very minimal new movies every month. Boo

My only complaint is that shows (series &movies) are broadcast cast much later after they are on HBO. I usually have to wait 24 hours to watch my shows.

Would be nice if you could download episodes and movies to watch offline. Seems like every other streaming service you can but this one. You have to stream everything and have a really good internet connection to steam smoothly or else buffers every 5 min.

To unsubscribe the app directs me to my subscriptions under settings and shows that I only subscribe to Apple Music. There needs to be an accessible and user friendly way to unsubscribe from services. It feels like fraud.
AVOID — not updated with basic feature support

In contrast to every single other streaming app (e.g., Hulu, Netflix, Prime Video, Apple TV+, Disney+) that I have installed on my iOS devices, the HBO app still has not been updated to support basic features such as 4K, HDR, and Dolby Atmos. For a company that purports themselves as a leader in home entertainment, this marked lack of support for these table-stakes features is extremely disappointing.

Can’t log on for over a month. Have tried password reset multiple times and it says sending me an email to reset, which never comes. Keeps charging me. Frustrating. Just had another charge come out of my account and can’t frick8n use it and there’s no one available to help. Awful.

About to unsubscribe to our subscription. A lot of great things we’d love to watch. Except we can never get them to play. Just sits at the loading screen. Very frustrating. It’s also not the Internet as Netflix and Amazon Prime work perfectly.

I’ve had little nagging issues with the app from the start. First one not super bad but annoying none the less. For several weeks the streaming bar at the bottom wouldn’t leave the screen. The other issue I’ve recently been having is more aggravating though. The last few weeks I’ve been unable to stream a new episode live. I have to wait 24 hours to have access to it. The only help you get from tech support is a yawning bored rep who just tells you to update your app, and or try on other devices. After explaining that was the first thing I did before calling he recommended the same thing again. When I asked if I could be transferred to another department that may be better able to help he said “they’ll say the same thing.” When the Watchmen season wraps up I’m cancelling the app. I cut the ties to cable a long time ago but seems like if you’re an app only person you’re a second rate customer

My internet is really good. I’ve never had issues gaming or running Netflix, Prime or Starz. I’m lucky if I get through one show or movie without it timing out. It’s this app, not the internet.

I have used the app for a while and stream from my iPhone. With my 7 Plus, I had not problem with turning on closed captioning and seeing the subtitles. Now, with my iPhone 11, CC is turned on, but no subtitles show! What gives??!!

This is for Apple TV devise: I’m watching a show, it skips 10 minutes ahead on its own without sound, I stop playback, star and receive error message. I have to close app to resume playback. This just keeps happening over and over and over and over ever 10 - 15 minutes of the show or movie.

App works great so good job developers! (To whom ever makes these decisions) Just would have liked an official email in regards to the CST tax for state and local added onto my monthly bill. Bill was $14.99 now it’s $16.62 a month.... I suppose if you had your monthly bill for anything go up by any amount your finance department would just write a check no questions asked?!? Great selection however the user experience is missing basic features such as the ability to save titles to a personal list, recommendations, and the ability to read a summary before playing the movie. These things really help, stuff like being able to skip intro and more skip time would be nice but not necessary.
CC Billing warning!

Do not directly provide them with any CC information for auto-billing. Their billing practices are opaque and consumer unfriendly with no electronic receipts or notifications of recurring CC charges. Recommend using the Apple Store subscription model to avoid being hit with surprise charges and benefit from transparent billing practices.

Ever since I subscribed to HBO Now, I’ve really enjoyed the Quality of programming. I canceled my Netflix because HBO has higher quality shows. The HBO now app is insufferable because it incessantly makes my phone give push notifications to re-enter my Apple ID login information. When the app is background it is very annoying when the app is on they go crazy! Bad user experience here.

App hangs when first opened

When first opened and on cellular (LTE signal) on an iPhone, the app hangs on the 3 blue dots “loading” image. This is with a fast and strong signal on iPhone 11 Pro and iOS 13.2.2. It never stops to get to video to watch. Force quitting app doesn’t help. To fix, I've had to turn the phone off and on. App works normally with WiFi.
I don’t know what all the bad reviews are about.

I was hesitant to subscribe because of all the negative reviews, but to be honest I have had 0 problems on my IPad 2. I would like to see a skip intro feature and be able to download episodes. But other than that I’ve enjoyed watching game of thrones flawlessly.

I love the shows and movies in HBO, but the current GUI setup for the AppleTV is just awful... the movie titles are small font white letters against the movie images, lots of which are white or light... which makes about a third or more of the movie titles absolutely impossible to read. Is it too difficult to add a black bar behind the title, or have the titles below the images? Did nobody, and I mean NOBODY at HBO look at this before signing off on the app?!

Terrible Connectivity and design

Of all the streaming apps I find HBO’s to be the most inferior. To the point of infuriation actually. It’s pretty clear that they have never tested this with intermittent connectivity on a commute or while traveling otherwise they would have discovered what Netflix and Amazon did a long time ago: optimize video delivery and PLEASE allow in app video downloads. Even while streaming from cellular HBO stops while Netflix. Amazon, and Hulu have no problems. Also this app loses video placement pretty easily if connectivity is lost (for example going into a tunnel for 5 minutes). The beginning commercials are also not optimized for commuters (no skip!?) This is not a hard problem to figure out. I guess the team behind this is just inferior. It’s almost 2020 not 2010... get your act together. Listen to your customers and make it easier for them to consume your product. My inability to watch this app consistently while traveling/commuting means this will be the first one I cancel.

I’ve barely been able to try out the app because I can’t watch anything on it. All it does is buffer. The video never even starts. I’ll be sitting there waiting for 10 minutes. Nothing happens except for the stupid buffering dots. I thought it was because of my poor internet, but when I get on Netflix the video starts right away. So the problem must be with the app. Not happy.

This app has been okay up until about a week ago when it started saying my subscription cannot be verified most of the time when I try to open it. iTunes says my subscription is valid and all paid. It has worked for a total of 1 day in the last 7. Very disappointing. Maybe HBO is just trying to push us to Apple tv+?

AppleTV app still not improving

I give it two stars in a concession to content, but the user interface is still awkward and frustrating. If you are trying to find a show such as Last Week Tonight With John Oliver, where to look? Comedy seems to have just stand up shows. It’s a series, but not usually found there. Search is tedious, given the Apple TV remote. Every other streaming service remembers what you last watched, especially in a series. HBONow only tracks shows you were watching but didn’t finish, so if you finished last week’s episode, that queue is empty. Here’s the kicker: if you save it to your favorites list to pick it up next time, it only saves THAT EPISODE that you already watched. It doesn’t understand that you might want to watch the next one.

My biggest complaint is that every time I start a new episode or movie I have to sit through HBO Ads. I already pay for the monthly subscription so I shouldn’t have to watch any ads. Other services offer Ad Free content when you pay. HBO should follow suit. You have my money. You win. No need to push any further. My other complaint is that you can’t skip intros. If I want to binge Westworld, I have to watch an ad AND the intro to EVERY episode. That is just ridiculous and extremely annoying. HBO can learn a few things from Netflix. Other than those to complaints I would have given the App a 5 star rating as it works as expected.

Don’t forget the viewers on Apple TV sit 10-15 feet away from the screen. Show titles, descriptions and cast and crew can’t easily be read from that distance. You have plenty of room to double the font size, your thumbnails are the size of index cards. And what is with the volume? It is half the volume of any other premium app in the App Store. It’s always a HUGE cluster logging in. ATT gives me access cause of my unlimited plan, but it’s always a complete cluster trying to figure out how to log in using my direct tv access. I just have a username, but now they are wanting an email...which never works. Oh well, I’ll use Disney+ and Apple TV as my content provider. Bye bye.
Over the top with commercials

I would give it 5 stars because aside from the inability to save my proper place in an episode, everything else is great, but every time I open the app to continue watching a show the app backs up the episode to the last commercial break so I have to sit through that before I can fast forward to where I left off, which is normally half-way to the next commercial break, so I get to watch 3 minutes of my show before sitting through another one. I’m still in my free trial but at this rate I probably won’t continue my subscription because I don’t want to pay to watch that many ads. I don’t care to watch some, but this is excessive. If they could get the app to actually keep your place so you don’t have to rewatch ads, I would most likely keep it.
Sometimes it makes me really annoyed.

While I am watching my favorite show it often freezes. Whenever I pause the show and try to play it again it often restart the episode and some times goes to a random episode of the show so I have to go back to the list and find the one I was watching and roll it to the point where I was. It is so annoying. I have tried to delete and reinstall the app and also reboot my phone but no success. I also have Netflix and Amazon prime show but have no issue using them.

Netflix, Amazon and others allow download. But not HBO. Makes it useless -- can only watch at home, not on trains, airplanes, etc. I am cancelling subscription because of this. Update: Hulu now has downloading, which makes HBO the only big streaming app without it!!

When I hired HBO with my cable company, it was fine, I had movies in Spanish, but when I downloaded the app to my cell phone, I did not give movies in Spanish, I had a very different variety to the service they provide on TV. Low quality movies, also removed the package for adults. They disappointed me.

It is now much more difficult to cancel your subscription. The process should be done in-app or on the desktop site, but instead involves a 10-step guessing game in order to cancel. A major company shouldn’t be doing that. This low rating is therefore deserved.

I subscribed to HBO now when it first came out. A few weeks ago I discovered that someone had changed my account details including the email associated with the account. So I couldn’t restore my own access. HBO now support staff pushed the blame towards iTunes. Despite the iTunes log in info not being affected. So I had to cancel HBO Now. Not cool.

Any "live" show typically doesn't load until the next day, like Real Time. Often the entire show is available on YouTube the same night it airs, far faster the HBO"Now", which makes me wonder why exactly am I paying for this service. Unless this improves soon, I'm done with this app.

The app is terribly designed only allowing a 10 second skip in any direction. Each video is proceeded by a 10 second preload screen to show you the rating followed by an ad. I try to skip ahead with the slider but it is so terrible it will just choose a random time and bit the time selected. The load times are terrible. I can load Netflix on the same device and it will start before the hbo app. It linked to my iTunes account and I though great I can watch it on that app. No, it just wants to connect to it for information. You cannot watch any hbo videos except in the hbo app. I would love to discinnect it but U will have go online to fund out how. Now lets talk about continue watching and adding a shiw to your watch list. Well it does not work. Sure you can add Fame if Thrones to your watch list, and it will always go to whatever episode you were watching and not the series. So yoy have to search your show, find the correct season, and then find the correct episode. Continue watching? It only saves the episode you were watching that did not play to the expected end time. This app is horrible. Constant buffering or errors. What a shame. I love that I can watch what I want, when I want with this type of app. But HBO Now is more like HBO Maybe Later, Maybe Never. Whether I’m watching on Roku, or on my IPad, I always have issues. I will probably cancel soon like I did 3 years ago. No improvements have been made.

Please, do not pay for HBO Go. I spent money on this only to not be able to get ONE single show or movie in. Not one. Netflix and hulu don’t buffer at all, so I know it’s not my wifi. I tried watching a 2 hour movie and after 3 hours (I’m not even kidding) I gave up on finishing it. Even after pausing for 10 minutes, the movie will stop seconds after playing it to “buffer” some more. You will literally not get more than a minute of show/movie in before being interrupted by a long pause. Super frustrating. Will not be cancelling asap, lol

HBO continues to have among the best programming available, however their apps leave so much to be desired. For a streaming app that doesn't offer 4k streaming they sure have a lot of issues with freezing and buffering. Additionally the lack of download ability, for episodes, magnifies the issues with the app's streaming problems. Advice to HBO: Empower your developers to add 4k streaming and an option to download episodes. I assure you there will be an increase in people utilizing your service if you do. Simply look at the other negative reviews you've received.

NONE of these “fix” solutions work! I have Apple TV 4K Bought HBO subscription thru iTunes. Live tv works but when you got to a series or anything it takes you to the HBO NOW app. I go to the restore in purchase: iTunes option. Then I get a message “Sorry we can’t verify your subscription. Sorry we couldn’t verify a subscription for you in iTunes” Al my stuff is signed in on the same account. FIX!! Same issue on the iPhone and iPad.

For $15/month? Are you joking? Uh HBO what the hell did you do to this app? This app should out perform every single streaming app out there for the ridiculous price they charge and instead it’s the worse one. In the spring they made a good update that allowed you to watch continuous episodes of a show without having to go back and choose the next episode. They finally made that adjustment after Netflix, Sling, Prime, and Hulu had this figured out for years. But then they decided to mess that up completely so that feature doesn’t work anymore. Anytime you try to watch a show the seasons bar and episodes are so difficult to use and in order to try to play continuous episodes you have to go to the episode and hit the play button. You hope once you do that you’ll get continuous streaming like they had before but nope. You get a few episodes in a row and then it goes back to a page you were never on where you fumble around trying to figure out how to go back to the episode you were just watching and hit the play button so you can get just a few more episodes in a row before this happens again. The new setup is so dumb and inconvenient when you’re trying to browse too. Hey HBO and the high af people who put this mess together; Put the menu bar back on the left side of the screen, put shows and movies back where they were, making it much easier to find what you’re looking for, and fix the continuous episode glitch so that it works as well as it did when you first came out with it. You can’t charge $15/month and have an app that’s complete garbage. I don’t care what shows are on it I’ll drop the service in a minute if things don’t change soon and I’ll bet a ton of other people will too.

I’m a long time customer. HBO Now works fine, tho it’s a very clunky interface compared to others. My big problem is content for price. As a long term customer, I ask what’s new for programming? I’m tired of very little new to watch that’s actually watchable. Even Hulu is beating you with content at $6/mo. I may not last thru the month.

Whether it be on the app or on your webpage, you guys make it nearly impossible to sign in as a SUBSCRIBER. Which means I pay $15 A MONTH for a streaming platform I can’t sign into. You don’t have any option to sign in using email and password and instead you are pushing provider services.

I would give it 5 stars because aside from the inability to save my proper place in an episode, everything else is great, but every time I open the app to continue watching a show the app backs up the episode to the last commercial break so I have to sit through that before I can fast forward to where I left off, which is normally half-way to the next commercial break, so I get to watch 3 minutes of my show before sitting through another one. I’m still in my free trial but at this rate I probably won’t continue my subscription because I don’t want to pay to watch that many ads. I don’t care to watch some, but this is excessive. If they could get the app to actually keep your place so you don’t have to rewatch ads, I would most likely keep it.
Terrible service

The app is terribly designed only allowing a 10 second skip in any direction. Each video is proceeded by a 10 second preload screen to show you the rating followed by an ad. I try to skip ahead with the slider but it is so terrible it will just choose a random time and bit the time selected. The load times are terrible. I can load Netflix on the same device and it will start before the hbo app. It linked to my iTunes account and I though great I can watch it on that app. No, it just wants to connect to it for information. You cannot watch any hbo videos except in the hbo app. I would love to discinnect it but U will have go online to fund out how. Now lets talk about continue watching and adding a shiw to your watch list. Well it does not work. Sure you can add Fame if Thrones to your watch list, and it will always go to whatever episode you were watching and not the series. So yoy have to search your show, find the correct season, and then find the correct episode. Continue watching? It only saves the episode you were watching that did not play to the expected end time. I do not have the next episode waiting for mr buy a list of all the shoes I stopped watching before the credits. Nagging issues

I’ve had little nagging issues with the app from the start. First one not super bad but annoying none the less. For several weeks the streaming bar at the bottom wouldn’t leave the screen. The other issue I’ve recently been having is more aggravating though. The last few weeks I’ve been unable to stream a new episode live. I have to wait 24 hours to have access to it. The only help you get from tech support is a yawning bored rep who just tells you to update your app, and or try on other devices. After explaining that was the first thing I did before calling he recommended the same thing again. When I asked if I could be transferred to another department that may be better able to help he said “they’ll say the same thing.” When the Watchmen season wraps up I’m cancelling the app. I cut the ties to cable a long time ago but seems like if you’re an app only person you’re a second rate customer
Apple TV connection window keeps repeatedly opening during streaming

Used to love this app, but lately every time I attempt to watch a show from my phone, the “Start watching by connecting HBO Now” notification window pops up on the screen asking me to connect to Apple TV. I select “Don’t Allow” because 1) I don’t have Apple TV and 2) I need to watch from my phone. Then a confirmation window pops up, and I click “OK” to exit back to my show. Video resumes. Between 5 seconds and 1 minute later, the SAME screens pop up and I have to go through the process again (...and again...and again...). As I write this review, I’m 18 minutes into my show and have had this happen at least 20 times. Yes, I have restarted my phone (iPhone 7+ running iOS 12.4). I have also deleted and re-installed the HBO Now app and deleted the Apple TV app (which I have no use for). I don’t have notifications turned on for HBO Now or Apple TV. What gives? Fix your app.

I have HBO, Showtime, Cinemax and stars on my cable package . I used to be able to watch these apps for Free as I am already paying for them on my TV from my cable provider. I get all the sports channels as well , college bal and pro. If there’s a game and a camera , I can get it. and even adult channels. They really are boring but the py come with the highest package on my cable. I am not going to Pay when I can watch all of the thins on here and more. Plus I have an app in my 92 inch LED smart TV and the 56 inch in my bedroom that lets me watch any shoos Korea’s movie I want at any time. I think you can get HBO and the other channels cheeper if you buy them as part of your cable package. I also get the Smithsonian channel which has Everything. Like I said, I used to be able to use this app for free as I was paying for this channel but I guessed that’s changed? I will obviously be deleting this app. I hope I don’t get charged for anything?!

I like the app and would rate it a 5 star, but the reason I gave it only 3 is because of: 1. Notifications shows me a number, but when I the app, I have no idea what the notification was. Really? Tell me what the notification was for. 2. No news or schedule of times or when things are coming back on the air. A couple months ago, I went in HBO Now hoping to find out when GoT was going to air; why wouldn’t you tell us debut schedules? Instead, I had to web search it and struggle through several sites to find YOUR schedule. This is common sense here - do whatever it takes to keep us in YOUR space, not have us jump out to look for your scheduling. Plus give us fun stuff to read - news about your shows and other web highlights. It’s more that TV nowadays - think outside the box HBO.
AppleTV app still not improving

I give it two stars in a concession to content, but the user interface is still awkward and frustrating. If you are trying to find a show such as Last Week Tonight With John Oliver, where to look? Comedy seems to have just stand up shows. It’s a series, but not usually found there. Search is tedious, given the Apple TV remote. Every other streaming service remembers what you last watched, especially in a series. HBONow only tracks shows you were watching but didn’t finish, so if you finished last week’s episode, that queue is empty. Here’s the kicker: if you save it to your favorites list to pick it up next time, it only saves THAT EPISODE that you already watched. It doesn’t understand that you might want to watch the next one.

I lost access to HBO because of the corporate spat with Dish network. So I finally subscribed through HBO Now, but was astounded how incredibly inferior their UI was compared to their Go app, The whole process of adding watchlist items and navigating was so much better there than this clumsy feeling now I am forced to use now. How is it they offer a parallel app to the same content and generate such a terrible user experience in comparison? But the worst thing: according to their user support there is absolutely no way to disable auto play. That is of significant issue with me and I will most certainly drop this app within a couple of months purely because of this. Even the most egregious streaming apps for forcing auto play down their users throats have come around to allowing it to be disabled.

My biggest complaint is that every time I start a new episode or movie I have to sit through HBO Ads. I already pay for the monthly subscription so I shouldn’t have to watch any ads. Other services offer Ad Free content when you pay. HBO should follow suit. You have my money. You win. No need to push any further. My other complaint is that you can’t skip intros. If I want to binge Westworld, I have to watch an ad AND the intro to EVERY episode. That is just ridiculous and extremely annoying. HBO can learn a few things from Netflix. Other than those to complaints I would have given the App a 5 star rating as it works as expected.

Every time I try to watch a show on this app it takes an extremely long amount of time for it to load. If I were to go on Netflix or any other app to watch something, it would load in a quarter of the time so I know it’s not my wifi that is the problem. There’s also times when i’ll be watching a show on this app and then 6 minutes in, it will stop and buffer and say, “Cannot play title.” This app has very good shows but it just doesn’t function well at all. Also, sometimes it doesn’t save where you’re at in the show so I’ll have to go through the whole thing and wait for it to load in order for me to get back to where I was. The creators of this app really need to get fix this.
Parental controls are a pain

The app is pretty easy to browse through and watch but it a huge pain to keep changing parental controls when ever my kids want to watch something and then switch back. It would be a lot easier to allow streaming of restricted content by entering a quick passcode only parents know instead of going to setting and changing everything. This method would also prevent any mistakes in which parents forget to switch restrictions back on after watching. Not well designed for people with kids.

The content is great, but the experience to watch them is not, especially if you’re trying to binge. It doesn’t save your searches, no option to skip intros, and that annoying HBO Now 8 second logo clip they insist on playing is really annoying. The worst though is the experience trying to cast to my Chromecast. I have to keep connecting and reconnecting to get sound, usually it takes me 2-3 attempts, and then I’m constantly having to search for the show again because it takes me back to the homepage or rewind with loads of buffering because it takes so long to get volume. Loved the HBO Go app this is a bummer.

Content is excellent, as the HBO brand has proven itself there. What makes the app miserable is that I cannot get through an entire episode of anything without getting a pop up saying the content is unavailable. If a text or call comes in then I go back to the paused screen there may or may not be sound, may or may not have picture, may or may not resume at all. This does not happen when I use other apps from platforms/providers who are newer to the scene than HBO. Why? .... I also do not like that the app doesn’t tailor content on the home page based on variables like other apps.

The app is just clunky and old feeling. You can finally save shows to your list but it’s not even the first thing you see when you open the app. I always need closed captioning but it doesn’t keep them on from episode to episode. Each episode, I have to open the app, let it buffer to show the connection with my TV and then turn on closed captioning again. Then because it only rewinds 10 seconds at a time, I have to keep rewinding, waiting for buffering, rewind again to get back to the beginning (when the closed captioning should have just been on). Not very assessable
Website doesn’t event function properly

Can’t even log into my account because their website is freezing up when I log in and says that I have logged in too many times and locks me out for an hour. Have called customer service several times only for them to admit they don’t know what’s wrong with it. Have tried on mobile device and computers and through the phone with technical support. You’d think with the millions of dollars they are robbing from people they could afford a team of web designers that know what they’re doing. Whatever the issue is I just paid $15 for a streaming service I can’t watch.

I purchased a monthly HBO subscription in order to see exactly 6 Game of Thrones episodes. I have been trying to view the GoT episodes for hours now, and am completely unable to view any of them. I can literally view every other series on the platform - any other show that I click on starts immediately, but any game of thrones episode just spins endlessly (why the eff did I pay for this???). HBO. You are seriously the worst. I was willing to pay for a 6 month subscription in order to view 6 episodes of TV. I paid and help up my end of the contract, but HBO did now. Disappointing.

It&#39;s a minor but annoying problem on my iPhone xs. Considering that my home button activator is a slide up from the bottom of the screen, it makes it very difficult to tap the &#34;sign in&#34; button without hitting the iTunes subscription button or sliding up. Could you provide some space to click sign in if you&#39;re already a subscriber? It would make a hug difference for people who will experience the same problem. Thanks!

I liked HBO however their app has a lot of flaws. Parental controls are very awkward. You if you set limitations it takes affect for the account and there is no convenient way for the adults to watch shows at a higher rating without going into settings and changing the limitation for the entire account. Other app will let you just entere the PIN number to unlock a show to watch. Please enable this. The List feature is episode specific for tv shows so if you watch a show you can’t use the list to navigate to the next episode.

I primary use HBO NOW on my Apple TV. I think whatever product manager or designer who came up with the new non-linear user experience should be fired. What a horrible update. Why do I feel this way? Rewatching shows is somewhat painful. The fact that I have to scroll through a grid of episodes rather than go through the list in order makes absolutely no sense. Maybe if I was watching episodes of The Office where I wanted to find a specific one randomly, this would work but when I’m watching chronological series like The Sopranos or GoT this makes me extremely frustrated. Stupid stupid stupid. Great shows. Please rollback the Apple TV app.
HBO NOW IANT WORKING FOR GAME OF THRONES

The HBO app isn’t working at all, PERIOD, for any given time. As you try to use the app, it doesn’t start up at all. Instead it says, sorry for the inconvenience, to make sure you have a good internet connection. It isn’t my internet. Plain and simple, there app DOESNT WORK and they haven’t tried to resolve this. Game of Thrones has been airing for a couple of weeks now and people from all over are unable to watch it on there devices because HBO has failed to come up with a solution or even more, failed there customers on what has happened and when it’ll be back up. I don’t think HBO cares. Just as long you pay them.
Volume slider bug

Im on an iPhone 7 plus and whenever I use the popup shortcut that takes me to the next episode after finishing the one i just watched, i think it carries over the volume sliders UI from the episode i just watched and adds a new one for the new episode i began watching from the shortcut. I had up to 4 different volume sliders at once, but only one worked. Just thought id let you know to improve the quality of your app.

I told myself I wasn’t going to renew my subscription. But I like the show “ BALLERS” , then my prime show “ SNEAKY PETE “ was cancelled for season “4”? So in hopes maybe Netflix or HBO will pick it up? So I renewed? App has potential. But a tad expensive!! I will gladly pay it if you guys pick up season 4 of SNEAKY PETE??? ;) other than that . No Refund Policy & Boring

No matter what your circumstances are, HBO has a 100% no refund policy. I tried out HBO when I was rewarded 3 months free through Verizon up. At the exact same time when the 3 months ended, my HBO app went to black anytime I clicked it on my PS4. I assumed my 3 months free had ended but no! They charged me $15 for an entire month I didn’t even watch 1 second of HBO!! They don’t care what your reasons are, they’ll don’t give refunds. I’ll be reporting them to the better business bureau. . . The only interesting thing on HBO is GAME OF THRONES. I’d rather just buy the last season as it comes out instead of wasting my money on HBO’s boring other shows.
Slowest streaming of all the apps

This is the slowest, most battery and bandwidth intensive of all the streaming apps. It takes forever to load when you want to go back ten, 20 or 30 seconds. Sometimes it causes it to say “can’t play try again later”. It eats away at battery quickly. It frequently does not remember where I left off in an episode or even which episode. And there is no way to download for offline viewing. Considering what they charge for the service compared to others, it’s far worse overall.

I am a US citizen, using US credit cards, and this app works OK when I’m in the United States, but when traveling it is useless as it will not work. So basically, I will be in Brazil for the Game of Thrones season premiere, and was hoping I could watch the opening episode connecting my phone to the television in the hotel. As I usually do with Netflix, when traveling. The whole point of a mobile app is that. After all, if I were at home where I have a regular HBO subscription, I would be watching it on my large screen TV. Basically if it only works well in the United States it is useless.

Have more problems with this app not keeping my place when watching on my phone, which eats up data. On my home tv it has way too many problems loading a video and just keeps timing out. I watch videos on it but it takes a lot of fiddling and powering on and off. Tried mirroring my phone to the tv (played fine on phone) but keeps starting and then saying it has problems and stops working. Most annoying app to date. And it is a paid app. Also very minimal new movies every month. Boo
Video Casting Problems

When I’m casting a video from my phone to the tv it will only cast to Chromecast devices. It will not cast to my Samsung Smart TV with HBO Now App. Also. Because of this. I have to manually scroll through a movie where I left of. And it takes too long to fast forward because it goes one second at a time. It should have a feature where it scrolls at least 10 seconds forward or back.

It just works, I don’t know about any of the other issues that people seem to be having, it sounds more like user fault and people not knowing how to use their smartphones than the app it self. You hit “play”, it plays. You hit “add series to my list” it add’s them. You stop watching your show in any platform and you can resume no problem on another one. I use it on celluar(Verizon unlimited) it plays with no problems, I play while on wifi(Verizon Fios) no problems. So, if you are somewhat competent on how to use technology and understand it, you are gonna have “0” problems. 4 stars due to lack of offline playability. Please developers, I just wanna be able to watch my shows while commuting home from work.

HBO has some of my favorite shows, shows that I’ve watched for years. With Game of Thrones back up and running I downloaded the app and was super excited to stream Game of Thrones and other shows. UNFORTUNATELY, the app crashes constantly. So, I have to keep opening the app and hope that I’ll make it to the show or movie I’d like to watch before it crashes. It’s come a long way since the last time I’ve used it, but it’s disappointing to pay for something that is literally stress enduring.

The app needs to be easier to navigate and overall better organized. Besides that, my customer service experience was something I wouldn’t expect from such a respected company at all and that just makes the customer experience bad even if the app was phenomenal. No one answered my question or could give me alternate possibilities regarding what I had to say so I decided to send an email and did not even receive a simple response whether I could be helped or not, it’s unprofessional.

I would give this app zero stars if I could. I signed up for the free week trial and on the 6th day I spent an hour and a half on the phone to cancel it. It was a huge hassle! I was assured I wouldn’t be charged for it. Looked at my credit card statement last night and I was charged for it. I did an online chat with a rep last night and she said “they don’t do refunds.” After chatting with her for 20 minutes, she told me I would be sent an email from the “higher up’s”. I did not receive said email. Do NOT download this app unless you want to be charged for it.

Not a user friendly app. It doesn’t save your searches, the “continue watching” section is garbage at tracking what you’ve watched so I always have to go look for a show I’m watching every time I sit down, and the search function isn’t good. Also, why is there no option to turn off the auto play function on the hbo go app?!?! I like to fall asleep to shows on my iPad and don’t need them playing in my face all night. Other than that, HBO puts out some dope show.

An endless maze of confusion and frustration

App will not let me login using my tv provider credentials. HBO has told me repeatedly that I can login using my cable subscription info with no issue. (I pay for my HBO through my cable provider). But of course when I login I’m notified that I need to still pay them $15 to watch anything! Uh no. I’m already subscribed and paying for HBO. So I try to log out and sign in again. Nope. HBO App is in an endless loop of lock out until I fork over MORE money per month. This is so frustrating I’m honestly thinking of canceling my subscription altogether.
Billed twice for the same period and no refund

HBO Now has a policy of no refund, which I think is alright. In my case I registered with my email address and credit card, but I was not able to login. Thinking the registration didn’t go through, I registered again with the same email address and credit card and this time it worked. Later it was noticed that I have been billed twice for the same period and when contacted the customer service, got to know that there was a typo in the email address used for initial registration. Even after identifying the issue, what the customer service executive could do was to repeatedly say “HBO Now” has a no refund policy”. From company’s stand point what he did would be right. But as a customer I feel cheated by billing from same credit card for the same period for the same service and not giving a refund.
App crashes when connecting to Sony TV

It was working last week when I watched the GoT season premiere, but last night it just kept crashing. Not sure if there was a recent update between last Sunday and last night on this app or my Sony’s firmware to cause this crashing issue. HBO Now app on my Sony has serious buffer issues but that’s another issue separate from this iOS app. I had to do a work around by just connecting in my laptop to my tv which basically defeats the purpose of having smart devices connecting with each other.

because I absolutely hate being able to watch movies and television shows and I live for deleting and then reinstalling apps on a weekly basis. I got to delete and then reinstall the app today for the fourth time in as many weeks and it was amazing. Having the app crash almost every time I try to watch a show really prevents me from having to deal with being entertained. Edit: Came back to change the rating to 1 * because the same thing happened literally a day later.

I was hesitant to subscribe because of all the negative reviews, but to be honest I have had 0 problems on my IPad 2. I would like to see a skip intro feature and be able to download episodes. But other than that I’ve enjoyed watching game of thrones flawlessly.
Error 102 - it crashes way too often to enjoy any show

I’ve tried everything - restarting my phone, router, TV and uninstalling the APP. Still, every 10-15 minutes, the same error occurs - Error 102 crashing the stream on my TV and forcing me to restart the show. I have NEVER gotten thru an entire episode of any show without it crashing at least once. It’s sad because I love HBO shows, but I’m uninstalling and canceling as soon as GOT is over. Steaming a show on my TV is frustrating as hell and this is the only app with this problem.

They made a series that grabbed the viewers attention and ruined it due to who knows why. Game of Thrones, one of the most amazing series from the digital age, ruined by HBO writers being tired of making the series. If other series are similar to this they need to hire new writers and produce better content. Wasted years of my time watching this series just for the Game of Thrones writers to end in the most boring and thoughtless way, ruining character development that took years, in two weeks.

Let’s say I’m watching GOT and am on ep.5 than someone else watches it and they are on ep.6 I have to find were I last left off and that is very annoying it would be great if you guys could make multiple profiles a feature.

First of all, this is not a review of the content HBO provides. It is absolutely outstanding. I’ve found enough high quality things to watch on HBO Now, enough that I’ve cut out other video streaming services for now. Now the bad... This app design is awful. I use it for 2 basic purposes, and it doesn’t manage either of these tasks well: 1) To discover content 2) To continue watching content I’m already in the middle of, be it movie or series HBO needs to step up their user experience on this app. Thankfully, for the time being, Apple’s native TV app has filled much of the void created by this app by organizing my “Up Next” list and making it easy to navigate. Keep up the great work on your content. Get to work on your app!

I use every streaming subscription imaginable and I cannot understand why your website/app is so awful. Why do you exit me out of the show if I flip back 10 sec more than once? That’s the most obnoxious feature I’ve ever seen. You would think you’d learn something from Netflix. The only reason I subscribe is bc of GOT. As soon as I’m done I’m off. Worst designed website/app ever. Also why don’t you have a skip intro button? I have stopped watching shows so many times bc of how many I hate your design.

Try this on Apple TV with the redesign: 1. Select show on home screen 2. Try to change to another episode in the same season It’s impossible, you’re always taken to Season 1, and the episode that’s on top of the season list is reselected! Goto search. Can you use Siri to dictate...anything? No, some genius decided to implement their own keyboard, the same layout as native tvOS, but no Siri dictation 🤯 Why can’t I mark an episode watched? Why isn’t continue watching the top section on the Home screen? Why isn’t My List another section on the Home screen? Why aren’t I shown what shows are most recent on the Home screen instead of selecting by show first? I watch GoT and Last Week Tonight mostly right now, why aren’t the actual episodes right on top?!?

You can click on it in the app and it just tells you to go to the website. But as soon as you do all it does is send you back to the app. Yah need to fix this ASAP! I shouldn’t have to call every time if I want to make an adjustment to my billing Information(turn off auto renew because yah just turn it on without request) or for somebody that wants to cancel the trial.

Forced to download this stupid app just to log in using my phone so I can cancel my subscription. Take the stupid start free trial crap off the main page that loads and put in a sign on feature that works. The already a subscriber button only tells me I have an account then takes me back to the start free trial screen. What blind joke designed the mobile version of that site? So I would love to be able to actually use the app and leave a good review, but every time I go to open it, the app crashes before it even gets anywhere. I get a split second of the black screen that says HBO NOW, and then it crashes back to my home screen. I’m using a new iPad, and I’ve followed all the troubleshooting tips on their website, and nothing, still doesn’t work. Very irritating! Kind of frustrated I paid for the subscription and it can’t watch it now.

HBO Now’s app is frozen in time. If you want to know what it was like to discover and watch content in 2013, this is the app for you. It is amazing that HBO still does not support offline viewing, the experience is buggy, and it’s so hard to find thing. You need to do better.

Have more problems with this app not keeping my place when watching on my phone, which eats up data. On my home tv it has way too many problems loading a video and just keeps timing out. I watch videos on it but it takes a lot of fiddling and powering on and off. Tried mirroring my phone to the tv (played fine on phone) but keeps starting and then saying it has problems and stops working. Most annoying app to date. And it is a paid app. Also very minimal new movies every month. Boo

I’ve had little nagging issues with the app from the start. First one not super bad but annoying none the less. For several weeks the streaming bar at the bottom wouldn’t leave the screen. The other issue I’ve recently been having is more aggravating though. The last few weeks I’ve been unable to stream a new episode live. I have to wait 24 hours to have access to it. The only help you get from tech support is a yawning bored rep who just tells you to update your app, and or try on other devices. After explaining that was the first thing I did before calling he recommended the same thing again. When I asked if I could be transferred to another department that may be better able to help he said “they’ll say the same thing.” When the Watchmen season wraps up I’m cancelling the app. I cut the ties to cable a long time ago but seems like if you’re an app only person you’re a second rate customer

This is for Apple TV devise: I’m watching a show, it skips 10 minutes ahead on its own without sound, I stop playback, star and receive error message. I have to close app to resume playback. This just keeps happening over and over and over and over ever 10 - 15 minutes of the show or movie.

Great selection however the user experience is missing basic features such as the ability to save titles to a personal list, recommendations, and the ability to read a summary before playing the movie. These things really help, stuff like being able to skip intro and more skip time would be nice but not necessary.

Do not directly provide them with any CC information for auto-billing. Their billing practices are opaque and consumer unfriendly with no electronic receipts or notifications of recurring CC charges. Recommend using the Apple Store subscription model to avoid being hit with surprise charges and benefit from transparent billing practices.

Ever since I subscribed to HBO Now, I’ve really enjoyed the Quality of programming. I canceled my Netflix because HBO has higher quality shows. The HBO now app is insufferable because it incessantly makes my phone give push notifications to re-enter my Apple ID login information. When the app is background it is very annoying when the app is on they go crazy! Bad user experience here.

When first opened and on cellular (LTE signal) on an iPhone, the app hangs on the 3 blue dots “loading” image. This is with a fast and strong signal on iPhone 11 Pro and iOS 13.2.2. It never stops to get to video to watch. Force quitting app doesn’t help. To fix, I&#39;ve had to turn the phone off and on. App works normally with WiFi.

I love the shows and movies in HBO, but the current GUI setup for the AppleTV is just awful... the movie titles are small font white letters against the movie images, lots of which are white or light... which makes about a third or more of the movie titles absolutely impossible to read. Is it too difficult to add a black bar behind the title, or have the titles below the images? Did nobody, and I mean NOBODY at HBO look at this before signing off on the app?!

Terrible Connectivity and design

Of all the streaming apps I find HBO’s to be the most inferior. To the point of infuriation actually. It’s pretty clear that they have never tested this with intermittent connectivity on a commute or while traveling otherwise they would have discovered what Netflix and Amazon did a long time ago: optimize video delivery and PLEASE allow in app video downloads. Even while streaming from cellular HBO stops while Netflix. Amazon, and Hulu have no problems. Also this app loses video placement pretty easily if connectivity is lost (for example going into a tunnel for 5 minutes). The beginning commercials are also not optimized for commuters (no skip!?) This is not a hard problem to figure out. I guess the team behind this is just inferior. It’s almost 2020 not 2010... get your act together. Listen to your customers and make it easier for them to consume your product. My inability to watch this app consistently while traveling/commuting means this will be the first one I cancel.

I’ve barely been able to try out the app because I can’t watch anything on it. All it does is buffer. The video never even starts. I’ll be sitting there waiting for 10 minutes. Nothing happens except for the stupid buffering dots. I thought it was because of my poor internet, but when I get on Netflix the video starts right away. So the problem must be with the app. Not happy.

This app has been okay up until about a week ago when it started saying my subscription cannot be verified most of the time when I try to open it. iTunes says my subscription is valid and all paid. I give it two stars in a concession to content, but the user interface is still awkward and frustrating. If you are trying to find a show such as Last Week Tonight With John Oliver, where to look? Comedy seems to have just stand up shows. It’s a series, but not usually found there. Search is tedious, given the Apple TV remote. Every other streaming service remembers what you last watched, especially in a series. HBONow only tracks shows you were watching but didn’t finish, so if you finished last week’s episode, that queue is empty. Here’s the kicker: if you save it to your favorites list to pick it up next time, it only saves THAT EPISODE that you already watched. It doesn’t understand that you might want to watch the next one.

My biggest complaint is that every time I start a new episode or movie I have to sit through HBO Ads. I already pay for the monthly subscription so I shouldn’t have to watch any ads. Other services offer Ad Free content when you pay. HBO should follow suit. You have my money. You win. No need to push any further. My other complaint is that you can’t skip intros. If I want to binge Westworld, I have to watch an ad AND the intro to EVERY episode. That is just ridiculous and extremely annoying. HBO can learn a few things from Netflix. Other than those to complaints I would have given the App a 5 star rating as it works as expected.

I like this streaming option for the most part; it is really easy to navigate and never buffers. I don’t like that I have to watch Real Time with Bill Mahre the following day that it airs. And the movie options are stagnant...not often new things to watch. That said, I mainly watch series.

It’s always a HUGE cluster logging in. ATT gives me access cause of my unlimited plan, but it’s always a complete cluster trying to figure out how to log in using my direct tv access. I just have a username, but now they are wanting an email...which never works. Oh well, I’ll use Disney+ and Apple TV as my content provider. Bye bye.

I would give it 5 stars because aside from the inability to save my proper place in an episode, everything else is great, but every time I open the app to continue watching a show the app backs up the episode to the last commercial break so I have to sit through that before I can fast forward to where I left off, which is normally half-way to the next commercial break, so I get to watch 3 minutes of my show before sitting through another one. I’m still in my free trial but at this rate I probably won’t continue my subscription because I don’t want to pay to watch that many ads. I don’t care to watch some, but this is excessive. If they could get the app to actually keep your place so you don’t have to rewatch ads, I would most likely keep it.

While I am watching my favorite show it often freezes. Whenever I pause the show and try to play it again it often restart the episode and some times goes to a random episode of the show so I have to go back to the list and find the one I was watching and roll it to the point where I was. It is so annoying. I have tried to delete and reinstall the app and also reboot my phone but no success. I also have Netflix and Amazon prime show but have no issue using them.

When I hired HBO with my cable company, it was fine, I had movies in Spanish, but when I downloaded the app to my cell phone, I did not give movies in Spanish, I had a very different variety to the service they provide on TV. Low quality movies, also removed the package for adults. They disappointed me.

It is now much more difficult to cancel your subscription. The process should be done in-app or on the desktop site, but instead involves a 10-step guessing game in order to cancel. A major company shouldn’t be doing that. This low rating is therefore deserved.

I subscribed to HBO now when it first came out. A few weeks ago I discovered that someone had changed my account details including the email associated with the account. So I couldn’t restore my own access. HBO now support staff pushed the blame towards iTunes. Despite the iTunes log in info not being affected. So I had to cancel HBO Now. Not cool.

Any &#34;live&#34; show typically doesn&#39;t load until the next day, like Real Time. Often the entire show is available on YouTube the same night it airs, far faster the HBO&#34;Now&#34;, which makes me wonder why exactly am I paying for this service. The app is terribly designed only allowing a 10 second skip in any direction. Each video is proceeded by a 10 second preload screen to show you the rating followed by an ad. I try to skip ahead with the slider but it is so terrible it will just choose a random time and bit the time selected. The load times are terrible. I can load Netflix on the same device and it will start before the hbo app. It linked to my iTunes account and I though great I can watch it on that app. No, it just wants to connect to it for information. You cannot watch any hbo videos except in the hbo app. I would love to discinnect it but U will have go online to fund out how. Now lets talk about continue watching and adding a shiw to your watch list. Well it does not work. Sure you can add Fame if Thrones to your watch list, and it will always go to whatever episode you were watching and not the series. So yoy have to search your show, find the correct season, and then find the correct episode. Continue watching? It only saves the episode you were watching that did not play to the expected end time. I do not have the next episode waiting for mr buy a list of all the shoes I stopped watching before the credits. In short, it is overpriced, full of ads, low on content, hard to navigate and not designed to help with viewing pleasure.

This app is horrible. Constant buffering or errors. What a shame. I love that I can watch what I want, when I want with this type of app. But HBO Now is more like HBO Maybe Later, Maybe Never. Whether I’m watching on Roku, or on my IPad, I always have issues. I will probably cancel soon like I did 3 years ago. No improvements have been made.

Please, do not pay for HBO Go. I spent money on this only to not be able to get ONE single show or movie in. Not one. Netflix and hulu don’t buffer at all, so I know it’s not my wifi. I tried watching a 2 hour movie and after 3 hours (I’m not even kidding) I gave up on finishing it. Even after pausing for 10 minutes, the movie will stop seconds after playing it to “buffer” some more. You will literally not get more than a minute of show/movie in before being interrupted by a long pause. Super frustrating. Will not be cancelling asap, lol

HBO continues to have among the best programming available, however their apps leave so much to be desired. For a streaming app that doesn&#39;t offer 4k streaming they sure have a lot of issues with freezing and buffering. Additionally the lack of download ability, for episodes, magnifies the issues with the app&#39;s streaming problems. Advice to HBO: Empower your developers to add 4k streaming and an option to download episodes. I assure you there will be an increase in people utilizing your service if you do. Simply look at the other negative reviews you&#39;ve received.

NONE of these “fix” solutions work! I have Apple TV 4K Bought HBO subscription thru iTunes. Live tv works but when you got to a series or anything it takes you to the HBO NOW app. I go to the restore in purchase: iTunes option. Then I get a message “Sorry we can’t verify your subscription. Sorry we couldn’t verify a subscription for you in iTunes” Al my stuff is signed in on the same account. FIX!! Same issue on the iPhone and iPad.

For $15/month? Are you joking? Uh HBO what the hell did you do to this app? This app should out perform every single streaming app out there for the ridiculous price they charge and instead it’s the worse one. In the spring they made a good update that allowed you to watch continuous episodes of a show without having to go back and choose the next episode. They finally made that adjustment after Netflix, Sling, Prime, and Hulu had this figured out for years. But then they decided to mess that up completely so that feature doesn’t work anymore. Anytime you try to watch a show the seasons bar and episodes are so difficult to use and in order to try to play continuous episodes you have to go to the episode and hit the play button. You hope once you do that you’ll get continuous streaming like they had before but nope. You get a few episodes in a row and then it goes back to a page you were never on where you fumble around trying to figure out how to go back to the episode you were just watching and hit the play button so you can get just a few more episodes in a row before this happens again. The new setup is so dumb and inconvenient when you’re trying to browse too. Hey HBO and the high af people who put this mess together; Put the menu bar back on the left side of the screen, put shows and movies back where they were, making it much easier to find what you’re looking for, and fix the continuous episode glitch so that it works as well as it did when you first came out with it. You can’t charge $15/month and have an app that’s complete garbage. I don’t care what shows are on it I’ll drop the service in a minute if things don’t change soon and I’ll bet a ton of other people will too.

I’m a long time customer. HBO Now works fine, tho it’s a very clunky interface compared to others. My big problem is content for price. As a long term customer, I ask what’s new for programming? I’m tired of very little new to watch that’s actually watchable. Even Hulu is beating you with content at $6/mo. I may not last thru the month.

Nagging issues

I’ve had little nagging issues with the app from the start. First one not super bad but annoying none the less. For several weeks the streaming bar at the bottom wouldn’t leave the screen. The other issue I’ve recently been having is more aggravating though. The last few weeks I’ve been unable to stream a new episode live. I have to wait 24 hours to have access to it. The only help you get from tech support is a yawning bored rep who just tells you to update your app, and or try on other devices. After explaining that was the first thing I did before calling he recommended the same thing again. When I asked if I could be transferred to another department that may be better able to help he said “they’ll say the same thing.” When the Watchmen season wraps up I’m cancelling the app. I cut the ties to cable a long time ago but seems like if you’re an app only person you’re a second rate customer
Apple TV connection window keeps repeatedly opening during streaming

Used to love this app, but lately every time I attempt to watch a show from my phone, the “Start watching by connecting HBO Now” notification window pops up on the screen asking me to connect to Apple TV. I select “Don’t Allow” because 1) I don’t have Apple TV and 2) I need to watch from my phone. Then a confirmation window pops up, and I click “OK” to exit back to my show. Video resumes. Between 5 seconds and 1 minute later, the SAME screens pop up and I have to go through the process again (...and again...and again...). As I write this review, I’m 18 minutes into my show and have had this happen at least 20 times. Yes, I have restarted my phone (iPhone 7+ running iOS 12.4). I have also deleted and re-installed the HBO Now app and deleted the Apple TV app (which I have no use for). I don’t have notifications turned on for HBO Now or Apple TV. What gives? Fix your app.

I have HBO, Showtime, Cinemax and stars on my cable package . I used to be able to watch these apps for Free as I am already paying for them on my TV from my cable provider. I get all the sports channels as well , college bal and pro. If there’s a game and a camera , I can get it. and even adult channels. They really are boring but the py come with the highest package on my cable. I am not going to Pay when I can watch all of the thins on here and more. Plus I have an app in my 92 inch LED smart TV and the 56 inch in my bedroom that lets me watch any shoos Korea’s movie I want at any time. I think you can get HBO and the other channels cheeper if you buy them as part of your cable package. I also get the Smithsonian channel which has Everything. Like I said, I used to be able to use this app for free as I was paying for this channel but I guessed that’s changed? I will obviously be deleting this app. I hope I don’t get charged for anything?!

I like the app and would rate it a 5 star, but the reason I gave it only 3 is because of: 1. Notifications shows me a number, but when I the app, I have no idea what the notification was. Really? Tell me what the notification was for. 2. No news or schedule of times or when things are coming back on the air. A couple months ago, I went in HBO Now hoping to find out when GoT was going to air; why wouldn’t you tell us debut schedules? Instead, I had to web search it and struggle through several sites to find YOUR schedule. This is common sense here - do whatever it takes to keep us in YOUR space, not have us jump out to look for your scheduling. Plus give us fun stuff to read - news about your shows and other web highlights. It’s more that TV nowadays - think outside the box HBO.
AppleTV app still not improving

I give it two stars in a concession to content, but the user interface is still awkward and frustrating. If you are trying to find a show such as Last Week Tonight With John Oliver, where to look? Comedy seems to have just stand up shows. It’s a series, but not usually found there. Search is tedious, given the Apple TV remote. Every other streaming service remembers what you last watched, especially in a series. HBONow only tracks shows you were watching but didn’t finish, so if you finished last week’s episode, that queue is empty. Here’s the kicker: if you save it to your favorites list to pick it up next time, it only saves THAT EPISODE that you already watched. It doesn’t understand that you might want to watch the next one.

I lost access to HBO because of the corporate spat with Dish network. So I finally subscribed through HBO Now, but was astounded how incredibly inferior their UI was compared to their Go app, The whole process of adding watchlist items and navigating was so much better there than this clumsy feeling now I am forced to use now. How is it they offer a parallel app to the same content and generate such a terrible user experience in comparison? But the worst thing: according to their user support there is absolutely no way to disable auto play. That is of significant issue with me and I will most certainly drop this app within a couple of months purely because of this. Even the most egregious streaming apps for forcing auto play down their users throats have come around to allowing it to be disabled.

My biggest complaint is that every time I start a new episode or movie I have to sit through HBO Ads. I already pay for the monthly subscription so I shouldn’t have to watch any ads. Other services offer Ad Free content when you pay. HBO should follow suit. You have my money. You win. No need to push any further. My other complaint is that you can’t skip intros. If I want to binge Westworld, I have to watch an ad AND the intro to EVERY episode. That is just ridiculous and extremely annoying. HBO can learn a few things from Netflix. Other than those to complaints I would have given the App a 5 star rating as it works as expected.

Every time I try to watch a show on this app it takes an extremely long amount of time for it to load. If I were to go on Netflix or any other app to watch something, it would load in a quarter of the time so I know it’s not my wifi that is the problem. There’s also times when i’ll be watching a show on this app and then 6 minutes in, it will stop and buffer and say, “Cannot play title.” This app has very good shows but it just doesn’t function well at all. Also, sometimes it doesn’t save where you’re at in the show so I’ll have to go through the whole thing and wait for it to load in order for me to get back to where I was. The creators of this app really need to get fix this.
Parental controls are a pain

The app is pretty easy to browse through and watch but it a huge pain to keep changing parental controls when ever my kids want to watch something and then switch back. It would be a lot easier to allow streaming of restricted content by entering a quick passcode only parents know instead of going to setting and changing everything. This method would also prevent any mistakes in which parents forget to switch restrictions back on after watching. Not well designed for people with kids.
Poor user experience

The content is great, but the experience to watch them is not, especially if you’re trying to binge. It doesn’t save your searches, no option to skip intros, and that annoying HBO Now 8 second logo clip they insist on playing is really annoying. The worst though is the experience trying to cast to my Chromecast. I have to keep connecting and reconnecting to get sound, usually it takes me 2-3 attempts, and then I’m constantly having to search for the show again because it takes me back to the homepage or rewind with loads of buffering because it takes so long to get volume. Loved the HBO Go app this is a bummer.

Content is excellent, as the HBO brand has proven itself there. What makes the app miserable is that I cannot get through an entire episode of anything without getting a pop up saying the content is unavailable. If a text or call comes in then I go back to the paused screen there may or may not be sound, may or may not have picture, may or may not resume at all. This does not happen when I use other apps from platforms/providers who are newer to the scene than HBO. Why? .... I also do not like that the app doesn’t tailor content on the home page based on variables like other apps.

The app is just clunky and old feeling. You can finally save shows to your list but it’s not even the first thing you see when you open the app. I always need closed captioning but it doesn’t keep them on from episode to episode. Each episode, I have to open the app, let it buffer to show the connection with my TV and then turn on closed captioning again. Then because it only rewinds 10 seconds at a time, I have to keep rewinding, waiting for buffering, rewind again to get back to the beginning (when the closed captioning should have just been on). Not very assessable
Website doesn’t event function properly

Can’t even log into my account because their website is freezing up when I log in and says that I have logged in too many times and locks me out for an hour. Have called customer service several times only for them to admit they don’t know what’s wrong with it. Have tried on mobile device and computers and through the phone with technical support. You’d think with the millions of dollars they are robbing from people they could afford a team of web designers that know what they’re doing. Whatever the issue is I just paid $15 for a streaming service I can’t watch.

I purchased a monthly HBO subscription in order to see exactly 6 Game of Thrones episodes. I have been trying to view the GoT episodes for hours now, and am completely unable to view any of them. I can literally view every other series on the platform - any other show that I click on starts immediately, but any game of thrones episode just spins endlessly (why the eff did I pay for this???). HBO. You are seriously the worst. I was willing to pay for a 6 month subscription in order to view 6 episodes of TV. I paid and help up my end of the contract, but HBO did now. Disappointing.

It&#39;s a minor but annoying problem on my iPhone xs. Considering that my home button activator is a slide up from the bottom of the screen, it makes it very difficult to tap the &#34;sign in&#34; button without hitting the iTunes subscription button or sliding up. Could you provide some space to click sign in if you&#39;re already a subscriber? It would make a hug difference for people who will experience the same problem. Thanks!

I liked HBO however their app has a lot of flaws. Parental controls are very awkward. You if you set limitations it takes affect for the account and there is no convenient way for the adults to watch shows at a higher rating without going into settings and changing the limitation for the entire account. Other app will let you just entere the PIN number to unlock a show to watch. Please enable this. The List feature is episode specific for tv shows so if you watch a show you can’t use the list to navigate to the next episode.

I primary use HBO NOW on my Apple TV. I think whatever product manager or designer who came up with the new non-linear user experience should be fired. What a horrible update. Why do I feel this way? Rewatching shows is somewhat painful. The fact that I have to scroll through a grid of episodes rather than go through the list in order makes absolutely no sense. Maybe if I was watching episodes of The Office where I wanted to find a specific one randomly, this would work but when I’m watching chronological series like The Sopranos or GoT this makes me extremely frustrated. Stupid stupid stupid. Great shows. Please rollback the Apple TV app.
HBO NOW IANT WORKING FOR GAME OF THRONES

The HBO app isn’t working at all, PERIOD, for any given time. As you try to use the app, it doesn’t start up at all. Instead it says, sorry for the inconvenience, to make sure you have a good internet connection. It isn’t my internet. Plain and simple, there app DOESNT WORK and they haven’t tried to resolve this. Game of Thrones has been airing for a couple of weeks now and people from all over are unable to watch it on there devices because HBO has failed to come up with a solution or even more, failed there customers on what has happened and when it’ll be back up. Volume slider bug

Im on an iPhone 7 plus and whenever I use the popup shortcut that takes me to the next episode after finishing the one i just watched, i think it carries over the volume sliders UI from the episode i just watched and adds a new one for the new episode i began watching from the shortcut. I had up to 4 different volume sliders at once, but only one worked. Just thought id let you know to improve the quality of your app.
Needs better shows , like Netflix

I told myself I wasn’t going to renew my subscription. But I like the show “ BALLERS” , then my prime show “ SNEAKY PETE “ was cancelled for season “4”? So in hopes maybe Netflix or HBO will pick it up? So I renewed? App has potential. But a tad expensive!! I will gladly pay it if you guys pick up season 4 of SNEAKY PETE??? ;) other than that . It’s a crystal clear experience. The best 4K and HD set up out there. Just wish had more newer shows and Movies and etc. But all good here !!!! Thanks ! Ps: #. HBO GO GET SNEAKY PETE( season 4) !!
No Refund Policy & Boring

No matter what your circumstances are, HBO has a 100% no refund policy. I tried out HBO when I was rewarded 3 months free through Verizon up. At the exact same time when the 3 months ended, my HBO app went to black anytime I clicked it on my PS4. I assumed my 3 months free had ended but no! They charged me $15 for an entire month I didn’t even watch 1 second of HBO!! They don’t care what your reasons are, they’ll don’t give refunds. I’ll be reporting them to the better business bureau. . . The only interesting thing on HBO is GAME OF THRONES. I’d rather just buy the last season as it comes out instead of wasting my money on HBO’s boring other shows.
Slowest streaming of all the apps

This is the slowest, most battery and bandwidth intensive of all the streaming apps. It takes forever to load when you want to go back ten, 20 or 30 seconds. Sometimes it causes it to say “can’t play try again later”. It eats away at battery quickly. It frequently does not remember where I left off in an episode or even which episode. And there is no way to download for offline viewing. Considering what they charge for the service compared to others, it’s far worse overall.

I am a US citizen, using US credit cards, and this app works OK when I’m in the United States, but when traveling it is useless as it will not work. So basically, I will be in Brazil for the Game of Thrones season premiere, and was hoping I could watch the opening episode connecting my phone to the television in the hotel. As I usually do with Netflix, when traveling. The whole point of a mobile app is that. After all, if I were at home where I have a regular HBO subscription, I would be watching it on my large screen TV. Basically if it only works well in the United States it is useless.
App is very buggy

Have more problems with this app not keeping my place when watching on my phone, which eats up data. On my home tv it has way too many problems loading a video and just keeps timing out. I watch videos on it but it takes a lot of fiddling and powering on and off. Tried mirroring my phone to the tv (played fine on phone) but keeps starting and then saying it has problems and stops working. Most annoying app to date. And it is a paid app. Also very minimal new movies every month. Boo
Video Casting Problems

When I’m casting a video from my phone to the tv it will only cast to Chromecast devices. It will not cast to my Samsung Smart TV with HBO Now App. Also. Because of this. I have to manually scroll through a movie where I left of. And it takes too long to fast forward because it goes one second at a time. It should have a feature where it scrolls at least 10 seconds forward or back.

It just works, I don’t know about any of the other issues that people seem to be having, it sounds more like user fault and people not knowing how to use their smartphones than the app it self. You hit “play”, it plays. You hit “add series to my list” it add’s them. You stop watching your show in any platform and you can resume no problem on another one. I use it on celluar(Verizon unlimited) it plays with no problems, I play while on wifi(Verizon Fios) no problems. So, if you are somewhat competent on how to use technology and understand it, you are gonna have “0” problems. 4 stars due to lack of offline playability. Please developers, I just wanna be able to watch my shows while commuting home from work.

HBO has some of my favorite shows, shows that I’ve watched for years. With Game of Thrones back up and running I downloaded the app and was super excited to stream Game of Thrones and other shows. UNFORTUNATELY, the app crashes constantly. So, I have to keep opening the app and hope that I’ll make it to the show or movie I’d like to watch before it crashes. It’s come a long way since the last time I’ve used it, but it’s disappointing to pay for something that is literally stress enduring.

HBO continues to have among the best programming available, however their apps leave so much to be desired. For a streaming app that doesn&#39;t offer 4k streaming they sure have a lot of issues with freezing and buffering. Additionally the lack of download ability, for episodes, magnifies the issues with the app&#39;s streaming problems. Advice to HBO: Empower your developers to add 4k streaming and an option to download episodes. I assure you there will be an increase in people utilizing your service if you do. Simply look at the other negative reviews you&#39;ve received.
Needs improvement

The app needs to be easier to navigate and overall better organized. Besides that, my customer service experience was something I wouldn’t expect from such a respected company at all and that just makes the customer experience bad even if the app was phenomenal. No one answered my question or could give me alternate possibilities regarding what I had to say so I decided to send an email and did not even receive a simple response whether I could be helped or not, it’s unprofessional.

I would give this app zero stars if I could. I signed up for the free week trial and on the 6th day I spent an hour and a half on the phone to cancel it. It was a huge hassle! I was assured I wouldn’t be charged for it. Looked at my credit card statement last night and I was charged for it. I did an online chat with a rep last night and she said “they don’t do refunds.” After chatting with her for 20 minutes, she told me I would be sent an email from the “higher up’s”. I did not receive said email. Do NOT download this app unless you want to be charged for it.
Poor user experience

Not a user friendly app. It doesn’t save your searches, the “continue watching” section is garbage at tracking what you’ve watched so I always have to go look for a show I’m watching every time I sit down, and the search function isn’t good. Also, why is there no option to turn off the auto play function on the hbo go app?!?! I like to fall asleep to shows on my iPad and don’t need them playing in my face all night. Other than that, HBO puts out some dope show.

I’m kind of disappointed that I can’t access all of the programming being offered even though I’m paying a full price every month. It’s nothing like when I used a tv provider that carried hbo and other premium channels. Can you address this issue for customers who also enjoy entertainment in Spanish, our dollars are just as green are they not?
An endless maze of confusion and frustration

App will not let me login using my tv provider credentials. HBO has told me repeatedly that I can login using my cable subscription info with no issue. (I pay for my HBO through my cable provider). But of course when I login I’m notified that I need to still pay them $15 to watch anything! Uh no. I’m already subscribed and paying for HBO. So I try to log out and sign in again. Nope. HBO App is in an endless loop of lock out until I fork over MORE money per month. This is so frustrating I’m honestly thinking of canceling my subscription altogether.
Billed twice for the same period and no refund

HBO Now has a policy of no refund, which I think is alright. In my case I registered with my email address and credit card, but I was not able to login. Thinking the registration didn’t go through, I registered again with the same email address and credit card and this time it worked. Later it was noticed that I have been billed twice for the same period and when contacted the customer service, got to know that there was a typo in the email address used for initial registration. Even after identifying the issue, what the customer service executive could do was to repeatedly say “HBO Now” has a no refund policy”. From company’s stand point what he did would be right. But as a customer I feel cheated by billing from same credit card for the same period for the same service and not giving a refund.
App crashes when connecting to Sony TV

It was working last week when I watched the GoT season premiere, but last night it just kept crashing. Not sure if there was a recent update between last Sunday and last night on this app or my Sony’s firmware to cause this crashing issue. HBO Now app on my Sony has serious buffer issues but that’s another issue separate from this iOS app. I had to do a work around by just connecting in my laptop to my tv which basically defeats the purpose of having smart devices connecting with each other.

because I absolutely hate being able to watch movies and television shows and I live for deleting and then reinstalling apps on a weekly basis. I got to delete and then reinstall the app today for the fourth time in as many weeks and it was amazing. Having the app crash almost every time I try to watch a show really prevents me from having to deal with being entertained. Edit: Came back to change the rating to 1 * because the same thing happened literally a day later.

I’m not sure why this app is rated so low. It should be showing 5 stars. I love the way HBO produces quality content and also provides a pretty sleek interface. The app is extremely easy to use and to maneuver within. I want to thank the developers on a very good job, well done!

I was hesitant to subscribe because of all the negative reviews, but to be honest I have had 0 problems on my IPad 2. I would like to see a skip intro feature and be able to download episodes. But other than that I’ve enjoyed watching game of thrones flawlessly.
Error 102 - it crashes way too often to enjoy any show

I’ve tried everything - restarting my phone, router, TV and uninstalling the APP. Still, every 10-15 minutes, the same error occurs - Error 102 crashing the stream on my TV and forcing me to restart the show. I have NEVER gotten thru an entire episode of any show without it crashing at least once. It’s sad because I love HBO shows, but I’m uninstalling and canceling as soon as GOT is over. Steaming a show on my TV is frustrating as hell and this is the only app with this problem.

They made a series that grabbed the viewers attention and ruined it due to who knows why. Game of Thrones, one of the most amazing series from the digital age, ruined by HBO writers being tired of making the series. If other series are similar to this they need to hire new writers and produce better content. Wasted years of my time watching this series just for the Game of Thrones writers to end in the most boring and thoughtless way, ruining character development that took years, in two weeks.

The app is pretty good and has great movies and tv shows but my one complaint is the lack of multiple profiles. Let’s say I’m watching GOT and am on ep.5 than someone else watches it and they are on ep.6 I have to find were I last left off and that is very annoying it would be great if you guys could make multiple profiles a feature.
Stellar content, terrible app

First of all, this is not a review of the content HBO provides. It is absolutely outstanding. I’ve found enough high quality things to watch on HBO Now, enough that I’ve cut out other video streaming services for now. Now the bad... This app design is awful. I use it for 2 basic purposes, and it doesn’t manage either of these tasks well: 1) To discover content 2) To continue watching content I’m already in the middle of, be it movie or series HBO needs to step up their user experience on this app. Thankfully, for the time being, Apple’s native TV app has filled much of the void created by this app by organizing my “Up Next” list and making it easy to navigate. Keep up the great work on your content. Get to work on your app!

I use every streaming subscription imaginable and I cannot understand why your website/app is so awful. Why do you exit me out of the show if I flip back 10 sec more than once? That’s the most obnoxious feature I’ve ever seen. You would think you’d learn something from Netflix. The only reason I subscribe is bc of GOT. As soon as I’m done I’m off. Worst designed website/app ever. Also why don’t you have a skip intro button? I have stopped watching shows so many times bc of how many I hate your design.
Apple TV app navigation with redesign is horrible. No Siri voice dictation!

Try this on Apple TV with the redesign: 1. Select show on home screen 2. Try to change to another episode in the same season It’s impossible, you’re always taken to Season 1, and the episode that’s on top of the season list is reselected! Goto search. Can you use Siri to dictate...anything? No, some genius decided to implement their own keyboard, the same layout as native tvOS, but no Siri dictation 🤯 Why can’t I mark an episode watched? Why isn’t continue watching the top section on the Home screen? Why isn’t My List another section on the Home screen? Why aren’t I shown what shows are most recent on the Home screen instead of selecting by show first? I watch GoT and Last Week Tonight mostly right now, why aren’t the actual episodes right on top?!?
It won’t let you check billing information

You can click on it in the app and it just tells you to go to the website. But as soon as you do all it does is send you back to the app. Yah need to fix this ASAP! I shouldn’t have to call every time if I want to make an adjustment to my billing Information(turn off auto renew because yah just turn it on without request) or for somebody that wants to cancel the trial.
Forced to download

Forced to download this stupid app just to log in using my phone so I can cancel my subscription. Take the stupid start free trial crap off the main page that loads and put in a sign on feature that works. The already a subscriber button only tells me I have an account then takes me back to the start free trial screen. What blind joke designed the mobile version of that site? Whoever it is needs to be fired and exiled and sworn to celibacy so they can’t transfer their genes on to future generations
Won’t even open

So I would love to be able to actually use the app and leave a good review, but every time I go to open it, the app crashes before it even gets anywhere. I get a split second of the black screen that says HBO NOW, and then it crashes back to my home screen. I’m using a new iPad, and I’ve followed all the troubleshooting tips on their website, and nothing, still doesn’t work. Very irritating! Kind of frustrated I paid for the subscription and it can’t watch it now.
