Bug while searching for players

When I type in a username to search for, and then get some search results, tapping on a username is immediately crashing the app for some reason
The best fully free chess app

Lichess is a huge community of online chess players, with some great free content and tactics as well. Also it’s truly free and open source.
Buggy
by trgiacoma on 2020/01/11 21:55
Play on browser. When playing on the app, I can’t tell you how many times I have lost games because of some form of lag? The app will just sit there during the opponents turn, and a minute or so will go by and then next thing you know it sets the opponents clock back up a minute, sets your clock down a minute and then says that you forfeited because you “left the game”. What’s worse is when it temporarily bans you from playing because it does it a couple times in a row and so the server thinks you’re intentionally running the clock out instead of resigning... even if you’re winning the game when it happens. Going to have to play on a different app.
Chat doesn’t work
by TH8369 on 2020/01/09 19:07
Please fix the chat. The send button does not work and the return key on the keyboard adds a carriage return, and it too doesn’t send.
Great App 👍 - A couple of requests
by JOhkonut on 2020/01/08 18:25
Love the app. I have a couple of minor requests. When cycling through the moves of a game with the << and >> buttons, it often skips through 2 or 3 moves ahead even thought I only pressed the >> button once. Can you please fix? The other request is to make the 3D piece sets available on mobile. Thanks!
Fantastic App, Best Free Chess Available
by goobermensch on 2020/01/06 05:45
The only thing I'd like to see is adding the "chess basics" from the website so that it is easier to get friends into chess! Also the /practice module would be very nice.
Games lag on fast internet connection
by Tri987 on 2019/12/29 20:02
I like a lot of things about lichess including the tournaments and all the different game times but unfortunately there is too much lag in blitz games for no reason. I can stream hd movies on a fiber connection and I can play console games over the internet like fifa but the app cannot maintain a connection. Very disappointing.
Incorrect registration
by arvind0123 on 2019/12/15 21:46
Recently I’ve had a lot of incorrect move registration ruining my game.
People leave games with no repurcussions
by rauger1 on 2019/12/15 18:14
Every other game the person I’m playing just stops playing. Maybe they kill the app, maybe it’s something else. But they stop and I’m forced to sit here for 3-15 minutes just to get a win. This is ridiculous! There needs to be a way to “ping” the opposing player, because this is making the app unusable and I’m just about ready to find an alternative. Other than that , fantastic app. But this kills it from 5 to 1 stars

Bugs in otherwise good app
by rtw1819 on 2019/12/10 08:47
- chat feature buggy as mentioned by other users - the create a game button for a custom game in the home page is buggy. Often clicking directly on it won’t work and i have to click below and to the left. - connection issues when reopening the app after time away. Often I have to completely restart the app for it to reconnect to the server Otherwise great!
Great Chess App
by DanielnotaNun on 2019/12/01 06:48
Lichess offers a variety of game mode and options to explore the world of chess! This app is similar to the chess.com application but offers a few advantages. Most importantly it’s free!! You don’t have to pay for puzzles or engine analysis of each game.
Matchmaking issues
by jojothathateschickins on 2019/11/29 01:54
The matchmaking is very inconsistent. I either get put against someone rated 150 above me in which case I get crushed, or someone 150 below in which case it isn’t even fun. I rarely get paired with opponents at my level and makes it hard to progress or improve.
Nice, but Buggy
by Lucid95 on 2019/11/24 02:55
I love that the app is free and allows for unlimited tactics training. However I have experienced some bugs while using the app. The chat system is very clunky, and disappears while typing a lot of the time. Also, whenever I search for a player and click their profile, the app crashes completely.
Crashes and confusing ui
by icantthinkofaname4 on 2019/11/24 01:13
App will crash if you go to community -> players and pick somebodies name. Prevents me from starting a match with a friend
Great app, buuuut...
by Vogen on 2019/11/11 00:41
The misclicks are really annoying, wish this could be fixed, when analyzing games it fast forwards too many moves some times, I’ve lost countless games due to inaccurate misclicks of moves, and I wish I could disable chat from the app. Some players are VERY toxic.
Terrible update
by Ron Memke on 2019/11/01 07:54
This update in Oct 2019 or so is disastrous. I’ve gone from a major misclick once every 20 or 40 games to one every three. I rarely had to click retry a click to land a move. Now a simple move routinely takes 3 or more tries. Most of my time pressure games now end with my failing to register moves on over 75% of attempts. Unbearable. Only suitable on an iPhone for slow chess now.
App crashes when viewing study

The game crashes when I try to view a study. Please fix! Love the open source love lichess
Rampant cheating continues - now buggy
by htmlgod on 2019/10/14 17:33
Bugs galore - unusable. Add to this the volume of cheaters using instamove and macro defined openings and you really should just play against a computer. This is trash and is a blight on the chess community. Told the developer and he responded “they why do you use it”. Way to treat the community - good luck with those up sells to a paid subscription idiot.
Some bug needs a squash
by nhart99 on 2019/10/12 02:01
Every time I try to view a friend to add them the app crashes. Otherwise it’s fine.
Buggy chat
by iVoidWarranties on 2019/10/10 19:45
You seriously need to fix this issue. The chat is incredibly buggy in iOS. Your send button won’t work unless you minimize the iPhone keyboard.
New update very broken
by Vizspring on 2019/10/07 05:23
The developers seem to have rewritten the app, changing what were native controls and replacing them with a web interface. It is 100 steps backwards. The new interface frequently mis-judges the tapped square, literally ruining games with “mis-taps” that were not the fault of the player. The new UI doesn’t show you any game info while playing, including who your opponent is. There is no way to star a game after play. And nearly all animations and scrolling in the app feels wildly “fake” and not native, with physics and curves totally botched. The app developers should return to their native codebase. When you make a web view-driven app, the quality is lost.

I totally did not like the latest version. The last one was way better than this one. Very bad
Lates Update Is Unusable
by rcakirerk on 2019/10/03 04:12
I play 20 to 50 bullet games every day. With the latest updates, the app is unusable (iPhone X). Pre-moves don’t work like they used to, and the interface components override each others positions. I’m truly surprised that this got released in this condition. I hope you can fix these issues soon, otherwise there’s no point in keeping this app anymore.
Last update messed up controls
by Macosta_exe on 2019/09/29 16:32
Last update messed up the finger controls and it makes “wrong move” which makes a BIG difference when playing fast games.
Great as a chess app, but bad for lichess standards
by Thisguys1 on 2019/09/29 03:48
I’ve played lichess on desktop for years and as far as other chess mobile apps go, this one is not bad. However for what lichess can offer, there are some issues with functionality, namely the puzzles. I can’t get them to sync. If I play through 10 tactics on desktop, and try to play some on my phone the next day, the tactics are the same ones I’ve seen on desktop, and solving them has no effect on my rating. As someone who mainly plays on desktop, this basically means I can’t play tactics on mobile. The other gripe I have is the notification icon doesn’t sync well either. If I get a notification and then use the app, the number stays there. For correspondence games I’ve played 6-7 moves and the notification number just keeps going up and up, even though I have no games that are pending my action.
The best chess platform but

New update broke a few things
by Ocean Rey on 2019/09/24 15:43
Chat is super buggy after the new update. I like the new layout but would’ve preferred if the board was more centered. Other than that great app ty lichess people ♡
Bans are too frequent
by webster dicktion on 2019/09/23 17:48
Every day when I’m playing chess I will on occasion have to resign because I underestimated the amount of time any certain game will take. Then without skipping a beat I get banned from the app for up to five or six hours. This has happened every day for almost the past week and it is annoying.
After update
by hcuwzi on 2019/09/21 02:00
After update I cannot use chat in this mobile app. If I try to chat it shows no words. I have to hit the x button and go back to chat and then hit enter in order to see the text I wrote. Also , when doing this it 100% guarantees to freeze up the board when it’s my turn and I lose on time. And you puzzles are STILL 100% bs.they o lay allow one solution in a position that it doesn’t matter what move is made and that either move leads to the same exact continuation. And they’re 99.9% middle game moves that are neutral or just plain uncalled for attacking that the provided solution still leads to a neutral outcome. Moving the king would be a better solution in those sets. You are teaching very bad chess with those puzzles.
Bad update changes
by Jbvvx on 2019/09/18 02:52
New app design is terrible and chat doesn’t work. At least allow for an option to have the moves at the top or not. Don’t force us to
Don’t update

This version crashes, looks ugly and has annoying features.
Love the App. Latest release is Buggy
by misterJTR on 2019/09/17 22:50
Great app and appreciate all the hard work yall put into making this the best chess app out there. The improvements to UI in the latest release are awesome. I love the new look and feel. Two Issues- The first: very hard to send in game messages. You have to open the chat, type without seeing your message, close chat, reopen chat and then hit send. Sometimes after doing this the board freezes on you as well. The second: piece count is no longer visible in Zen Mode. Not sure if this is by design bit it was there in the previous version. Once these issues are ironed out my rating will be updated back to its rightful 5.
Update is broken
by colinsk on 2019/09/17 16:00
If you haven’t updated wait. The chat feature is broken on my iPhone X. It is also very glitchy now.
Best chess app
by QHS on 2019/09/17 15:55
I adore the look of lichess, as well as all its features and how well it runs. The new update looks great, but chat does not work on iPhone now. I type and the box doesn’t get filled. Just wanted to say that! Thanks so much for making such a great service
not the best update
by Alex, K on 2019/09/17 08:13
app and community are great; just few concerns about the 6.2.0 update (mid-Sep): 1. u moved the board down! Assuming i dont like this (just because its a new look and i’m conservative) — I didnt find how i can move it back (center). 2. analisys now displays one best move per line, making itself visually useless, as I cant visually understand whats the real (absolute) best move in the position.
New update
by arguablyarock on 2019/09/17 02:15
The board for the new update is so horrible. Please switch back or my and my friends are switching to chess.com. The idea of putting move on top of screen is horrible
Easily best chess app
by Hgfbnutfgburvhydh on 2019/09/16 20:17
Very clean, has basically all of the tools of any other online chess service for free, and the new UI change is beautiful. Always my favorite chess site/app, hands down
New update is a nightmare...
by Daniel Mullins ♟ on 2019/09/16 11:29
I love Lichess. I use Lichess every day, it’s a great application, and by far the most user friendly chess application I’ve ever used. However, the newest update is riddled with problems that just can’t be overlooked. For starters, the chat text box disappears when I try to type a message to my opponent. It’s a pain to not see what you’re typing, and to hope that everything looks alright before sending. Secondly, opening the analysis board in correspondence games occasionally shows up “zoomed in,” where I can only see a portion of the board. This makes it impossible to properly analyze my next moves and renders the analysis board feature useless. Finally, aesthetically I have a problem with the moves list being above the board within a game. I guess this is personal preference and will just take some getting used to, but certainly weird and it takes up about a third of the screen. Not a deal breaker though. As for the other bugs, however, these are serious issues in my opinion and already I’ve felt a great deal of frustration using the new, updated Lichess, just in the last hour or so. Hopefully these are temporary problems with easy fixes, as I understand with any new major app change, issues are bound to come up.
Whoa move the board back up
by Blastnmynips on 2019/09/16 03:33
Latest update pushed the board down and there’s a huge gap at the top. Please go back!

What’s with the pairings?
by carpuppy1000 on 2019/08/08 16:00

Puzzles Do Not Adjust to Your Moves!
by Bear Is A Name on 2019/07/16 16:13
First off I would like to say that the website is amazing but... the app isn’t there yet playing games is just fine but... puzzles are a different story. They do NOT adjust to my skill level. Moral of the story if you have a laptop use lichess.com and not the app.
Connect problems: update
by ..billg on 2019/07/08 20:41
My original review follows this one in quotes; this is an update. I have tried the lastest version of this app and it seems like it is much, much improved. Everything is very responsive and I have not had a single connectivity problem. My compliments to the developers who have obviously been working hard to fix the issues: kudos! From approximately two years ago: “I have a very fast internet connection (50 down/5 up) so when this app CONTINUALLY complains about losing its connection, this can only be a problem with your servers. I love the web interface; it's a shame that this app does not live up to it.”
Bad Algorithm
by LilacDoe on 2019/07/06 02:37
I keep getting punished for running out of time in bullet games. If we each have 2mins to make all our moves that’s bound to happen, I don’t need to be kicked for 15mins as a result.
Garbage
by Rajajaaja on 2019/06/25 02:36
I spent five minutes making an account and verifying my email (you’re a very minor app this is useless) and after all that I couldn’t even login because the button to login wouldn’t work no matter what I tried. Fix your app!!!

by Check split deluxe on 2019/05/14 19:37

Better than Chess.com app
by Friendshiptime on 2019/04/05 01:57
This app has everything I could want in a chess app, free puzzles, plenty of tournaments, free analysis, opening explorer, lessons. It’s all here, for free. I tried a year of chess.com and enjoyed it, but I find lichess superior in all the ways I care about. Except for one, I do wish I could add friends instead of just follow them, it’d make it easier to find people. 5/5 highly recommend

Sound bug
by Mike5210 on 2019/03/23 18:49
There’s an annoying sound bug that doesn’t allow the user to select the level of sound volume in game. It doesn’t matter if you set it to the lowest or highest, it’ll still sound the same and it’s annoying as hell. Please fix it ASAP.
Has latency issues
by Jeff Halili on 2019/03/11 22:19
This app has latency issues depending on where you are regardless of your connectivity. For example, when I was in Florida, I never had issues. Now, in Texas, no matter how good my internet connection is (tried home WiFi, Starbucks, LTE, etc, all good ping and good download/upload speeds), I struggle to play with anyone because I lose anywhere between 5-10 sec per move because of the server latency. Fix this issue and it will go back to 5 stars. Otherwise, the app is unusable for some players.
Everything is good except LAGGING.
by Lord Litton on 2019/03/08 13:32
Really like LiChess and this app. Though experiencing a lot more lagging than usual. Hopefully it gets fixed ASAP.
The Best
by SaigonS on 2019/03/05 20:18
Lichess is quite simply the best of any of the online sources I’ve used. It’s totally free. There is no annoying “upgrading” advertised. The chessboard is clear, full screen, and very rarely has a technical glitch, unlike some other popular sources. Lichess offers a variety of chess games not seen on other websites. There are many tournaments available to play, if one wants to. There seems to be a good size pool of players, at every level, for the many different chess games available. The downside? I can’t think of any. Lichess does not offer live tutorials, but for that, YouTube offers an extensive number, of much better quality than are on other chess websites. If you love playing chess, you’ll love Lichess.
Bullet Chess Problems

by Y-Kanon on 2019/02/22 01:38
I just switched to apple and the analysis feature just changed significantly and I don’t know who is winning and by how many points. Fix and you’ll get 5 stars
Lag is ridiculous
by Tyguy92 on 2019/02/21 14:24
Nothing more infuriating than watching your timer run out in a winning position because it takes the server 30 seconds to register every move. I'll be using their competitor's app until this problem is fixed.

Issue
by shame on cheats on 2018/12/30 04:11
I have random games against opponents where my time continues to decline after my move is made. At first it was hit or miss but now it’s every day. It doesn’t matter if I am on WiFi or LTE. I am never on the receiving in of the time so the odds and probability is other players have figured out a way to exploit a flaw in the server. It’s a shame because there are a lot of great players on this app. These cheats will ruin this app and force us fair players to move on to another.
I'd give five stars, but . . .
by Pejman64 on 2018/12/16 15:34
The app disconnects a lot. On bullet chess, my opponent magically gains time; even after they take forever to make a move, I often find that somehow, it's my clock that has run low, or out, while their clock hasn't moved that much.
Good except when it simply refuses to work
by Asn8745 on 2018/12/05 21:17
It’s a great app that allows you to get a quick game or a puzzle in any time you want. I actually enjoy using the app more than playing on my PC. However there are still issues with the app simply refusing to work, disconnecting, etc. I’ve usually went and tried a computer when this happens and I can usually play there, so it’s probably an app issue as opposed to a server issue.
Puzzle solutions are bs
by fuuegdhcu on 2018/11/16 11:44
Who is cooking up those puzzles? You need to fire them ASAP. The solutions the author has made up are 99.9% bs. It’s just whatever most of the time. No piece will be threatened and the solution will 9/10 times be the stupidest move if not neutral that leads to nowhere. Smh take a look at the puzzles from time to time
Best Chess App
by StoicArbiter on 2018/11/16 00:46
I downloaded and tried EVERY chess app in the app-store and this one just has it all! You can play a large variety of timed matches, correspondence games, against the AI, etc. It has every feature I want in a chess app and it executes it smoothly and with a sleek design (I love the dark mode).
Great app
by Tintin 2011 on 2018/11/14 22:55
I really like the concept of open source and free for all chess app, where everyone interested in chess can learn and improve their chess game. I especially like the "practice" section of the website, because it is so well organized and so useful for improving one's game. The only issue is this"practice" section does not exist in the app. There is only "training" which is just random puzzles. Please bring this feature along with the videos to the app, and then it will be a five star app, hands down. Thank you for creating such an amazing app.
Great but
by Nicolas_Rdrgz on 2018/11/08 02:15
Fix the chat, it doesn’t send the message at the first time every time and if you could make a small chat to play and chat at the same time, that will make this app perfect; also a free board mode will be awesome too, like when you you have a board in from of you and play with yourself or play with the training book.
Glitches in Bullet Timer
by Darien Tyree on 2018/11/07 07:06
Bullet chess on this app is just terrible! The timer keeps freezing on my opponents side after l move and lets my timer keep running until l have no time and lose a rated game. Please make an accurate timer!!!
Notifications don't work
by Jediforce70 on 2018/11/05 15:02
I've read a thread online about how people 31 months ago are still complaining about how notifications on the iOS app don't work. It's now November 2018 and nothing has seemed to have gotten any better. It can get really frustrating playing correspondence when you have to keep checking the app on your own accord, because the app wouldn't let you know when it's your turn to make the move.
Disappointed
by 06098606091986 on 2018/11/02 03:10
Used chesscom before. Now switched to lichess and very disappointed. When I sometimes aborting some games ( because of the low opponent rait or opponent wasn’t nice and correct in previous games) lichess banned me. For couple hours before. Now for whole day. VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED. can’t even enjoy the chess.

No ads, fast computer analysis of your games, not heavily monetized, detects players who use chess calculators, little to no lag with a good internet connection.
Best chess app out there
by Darth01010 on 2018/09/24 01:55
Lot better than chess.com or any chess app in my opinion. I use the analysis board a lot in order to look at positions and stuff. Very nice user friendly interface thats easy to use. Wish there was a way to look at all the games that were in the current position in the analysis board besides the top four or so games. Other than that, I like the interface especially the addition of the quick pairing. Also, lots of interesting gamemodes that keep it fresh and the feature of in-built chess clock and over the board is nice too. No freemium bs. I find that the tactics trainer’s puzzles are a bit strange and really easy at times but that might just be me. If I could edit studies on the app, that would be huge. Recommend it
Best chess app hands down.

I have no sound. Even after the 6.0.0 update. So can’t here when opponent plays a move which can be troublesome especially in shorter time controls. Even when the app did play a sound it was almost inaudible and there is no controls for volume even with my sound turned all the way up. That app also lags when I play. It’s a shame. I’d rather play on Lichess than chess.com because I prefer the tournaments, but I hardly ever use this app over chess.com.

Lag
by hegel1755 on 2018/08/06 14:09
I have been using this app for years, overall good application, lot of players from every corner of the planet, lot of tournaments for all strength levels, however the main shortfall of the application is timing. Players over 2400 strength gain time after each move, it looks like the apps is programmed to favor these players. On the other hand In tournament levels weak players gain tremendous time during the game and you see players at 2200 or more strength loosing on time against a player at 1600 strength. This is so ridiculous when you a player at master level loose on time continuously against a weak player. When you play to a player more or less at your strength the time is about right. Developers need to fix this issue, on short games time is essential. I do have extremely high speed internet connection with no lag at all, so saying this has to do with internet connection has no ground to be based upon. Other than this playing long time games like 10 minutes or more you shouldn't have any issue.

Fantastic app, with a few kinks
by $_ethan_$ on 2018/07/06 02:49
Overall, Lichess is a fantastic app to play and improve your chess skills. However, there are some thing ms that aren’t ideal about it. For example, the chat feature is very buggy, and I have to send my message multiple times for it to go through. Also, for some reason, when playing a correspondence game, it displays the score that I had when I started the game, even if I played another game in the middle, and my score changed. The analytics page isn’t very friendly, and there is no way to just look at my profile and see my rank. But these are minor annoyances, since they don’t hinder gameplay, which is fantastic.

by Harrypotter5913 on 2018/06/14 00:34
I am thoroughly impressed with Lichess. There is so much capable within the app itself that easily trumps other software. The endless amount of tactical and positional puzzles as well as the unlimited analysis board. There are also other features such as the ability to watch top players’ games and learn from them, As well as the ability to import and analyze your own games with ease. I think it’s beautiful that the developers made it all non-profit, and instead for the beauty of Chess. There are no problems that I have perceived within the mobile app, as well as the website. I use the app daily, and enjoy it very much. Keep up the great work!

Great app
by Tintin 2011 on 2018/11/14 22:55
I really like the concept of open source and free for all chess app, where everyone interested in chess can learn and improve their chess game.
Buggy
by trgiacoma on 2020/01/11 21:55
Play on browser.
I love it!
by perrytheply ;D on 2017/09/25 08:51
This app is amazing and wayyy better than Zyngas "Chess With Friends," and their newer version as well! The only thing I seem to have a problem is with the messaging or "mail" as you call it. If you can improve that to be more reliable as a messaging source (not saying turn it into a messaging app) but sometimes there's bugs such as backing out onto the messaging page over and over. Everything else seems amazing!
Back to inoperability
by Czentovic64 on 2017/12/23 17:28
This app is very nice when it works: easy to use and a good bet for finding a suitable opponent. In a prior review, I criticized the app because when I tried to open it, it was usually offline. So I had to uninstall and reinstall it, and maybe one time out of four I was actually able to play games online. Then it started working most of the time, and I posted an improved review to reflect that. Now I can’t get online at all. So from my standpoint, it’s an unusable app. I hope that you have better luck with it, but if not, I recommend the PC version, which works just fine.
not the best update
by Alex, K on 2019/09/17 08:13
app and community are great; just few concerns about the 6.2.0 update (mid-Sep): 1. u moved the board down! Assuming i dont like this (just because its a new look and i’m conservative) — I didnt find how i can move it back (center). 2. analisys now displays one best move per line, making itself visually useless, as I cant visually understand whats the real (absolute) best move in the position.
Issue
by shame on cheats on 2018/12/30 04:11
I have random games against opponents where my time continues to decline after my move is made.
Thanks!
10 years of waiting finally over
by keegancherry on 2018/02/28 06:13
After 10+ years of waiting/trying to find a good chess app I’ve finally discovered it. This app is everything I’ve wanted. Beautiful AI, no ads (although I wish I could pay to remove them to support you!), phenomenal data during and post matches, and great online community. I LOVE THIS APP.
Great but
by Nicolas_Rdrgz on 2018/11/08 02:15
Fix the chat, it doesn’t send the message at the first time every time and if you could make a small chat to play and chat at the same time, that will make this app perfect; also a free board mode will be awesome too, like when you you have a board in from of you and play with yourself or play with the training book.
Great platform that does not conform to Apple’s requirement.
by Wafflyw on 2017/12/25 17:07
This only pertains to the app running on iPhone X. Although the developers have stated this app is updated to support iPhone X’s layout, it is simply not. Apple has reminded developers that they are not to black out the area around the top sensor housing. This seems to have been ignored. Playing for extended hours, I can see how this would lead to non-uniform burn-in in the iPhone X’s OLED screen. It is a fairly easy design change to implement and I cannot think of a reason not to do so. Apart from this, the platform is extremely stable. Gameplay is fluid and smooth, and there are no connection issues.
Needs badges for correspondence
by blinddrive on 2017/09/06 21:32
Great app. Would be 5 stars if you could just include the little red badge notifications to tell us when we have to move. My friends miss these, too, and they time out the games sometimes if I don't remind them to check it.
Best Chess App

I downloaded and tried EVERY chess app in the app-store and this one just has it all! You can play a large variety of timed matches, correspondence games, against the AI, etc. It has every feature I want in a chess app and it executes it smoothly and with a sleek design (I love the dark mode).

by Lucid95 on 2019/11/24 02:55

Phenomenal for Most Things, But...
by mevans on 2017/09/10 13:00
Lichess is the best free app around for puzzle solving, playing chess games, and watching chess. I would give five stars, except that there is a bug in the way variations starting from black moves are recorded: black's move is listed twice. The app also has issues when exporting PGNs, which seem to cut off randomly.
Great except notifications
by JDSX on 2017/10/06 18:26

I adore the look of lichess, as well as all its features and how well it runs. The new update looks great, but chat does not work on iPhone now. I type and the box doesn’t get filled. Just wanted to say that! Thanks so much for making such a great service
Some bugs

by Mr. Epicfaced on 2018/03/22 23:30
This app is really great. The only thing is is that sometimes the animations of the chess pieces are laggy and slow. It’s pretty annoying and even when I restart the app, my phone, and even reinstall the app, I get these slow, laggy animations.

Fantastic App, Best Free Chess Available

Continues to get worse and worse
by fiercey13 on 2018/04/03 00:15
After giving up on even trying to ban blatant cheaters, they’ve now removed the ability to block them as well. If you love cheating by relaying moves from a chess engine, then this is the app for you!! Also, they removes the “Games” item from the menu, so I can’t even go back and look at my old games anymore. Terrible!!!

Great Chess App

Great to play versus friends, computer, for analysis. One thing - computer seems to always play same opening on same level (ie d5 versus e4 on level 3). Can you make it vary? Great job!

Great app but...
by theWoman? on 2017/12/06 22:24
The new update ruined puzzles. Now you only get one try before it automatically reveals the answer to you instead of letting you figure it out and learn for yourself. No idea why they would “fix” something that needed no repair.

Great app
by Tintin 2011 on 2018/11/14 22:55
I really like the concept of open source and free for all chess app, where everyone interested in chess can learn and improve their chess game.
Buggy
by trgiacoma on 2020/01/11 21:55
Play on browser.
I love it!
by perrytheply ;D on 2017/09/25 08:51
This app is amazing and wayyy better than Zyngas "Chess With Friends," and their newer version as well! The only thing I seem to have a problem is with the messaging or "mail" as you call it. If you can improve that to be more reliable as a messaging source (not saying turn it into a messaging app) but sometimes there's bugs such as backing out onto the messaging page over and over. Everything else seems amazing!
Needs badges for correspondence
by blinddrive on 2017/09/06 21:32
Great app. Would be 5 stars if you could just include the little red badge notifications to tell us when we have to move. My friends miss these, too, and they time out the games sometimes if I don't remind them to check it.
Best Chess App

I downloaded and tried EVERY chess app in the app-store and this one just has it all! You can play a large variety of timed matches, correspondence games, against the AI, etc. It has every feature I want in a chess app and it executes it smoothly and with a sleek design (I love the dark mode).
Nice, but Buggy
by Lucid95 on 2019/11/24 02:55

Phenomenal for Most Things, But...
by mevans on 2017/09/10 13:00
Lichess is the best free app around for puzzle solving, playing chess games, and watching chess. I would give five stars, except that there is a bug in the way variations starting from black moves are recorded: black's move is listed twice. The app also has issues when exporting PGNs, which seem to cut off randomly.
Great except notifications
by JDSX on 2017/10/06 18:26
This is the best I’ve tried. The only problem is the unreliable notifications which frequently come and go unnoticed. It’s a consistent issue across all my devices as well as my family members with whom I play.

I adore the look of lichess, as well as all its features and how well it runs. The new update looks great, but chat does not work on iPhone now. I type and the box doesn’t get filled. Just wanted to say that! Thanks so much for making such a great service
Some bugs

by Mr. Epicfaced on 2018/03/22 23:30
This app is really great. The only thing is is that sometimes the animations of the chess pieces are laggy and slow. It’s pretty annoying and even when I restart the app, my phone, and even reinstall the app, I get these slow, laggy animations.

Who is cooking up those puzzles? You need to fire them ASAP. The solutions the author has made up are 99.9% bs. It’s just whatever most of the time. No piece will be threatened and the solution will 9/10 times be the stupidest move if not neutral that leads to nowhere. Smh take a look at the puzzles from time to time
New update broke a few things

Great app, buuuut...
by Vogen on 2019/11/11 00:41
The misclicks are really annoying, wish this could be fixed, when analyzing games it fast forwards too many moves some times, I’ve lost countless games due to inaccurate misclicks of moves, and I wish I could disable chat from the app. Some players are VERY toxic.
Fantastic App, Best Free Chess Available
by goobermensch on 2020/01/06 05:45

Continues to get worse and worse
by fiercey13 on 2018/04/03 00:15
After giving up on even trying to ban blatant cheaters, they’ve now removed the ability to block them as well. If you love cheating by relaying moves from a chess engine, then this is the app for you!! Also, they removes the “Games” item from the menu, so I can’t even go back and look at my old games anymore. Terrible!!!

Great Chess App
by DaveRim1983 on 2017/09/22 17:09
Great to play versus friends, computer, for analysis.
