Good app but a couple of problems
by GamingGeek27 on 2019/10/20 16:21
So I want to learn to play the guitar but I can only practice 10 minutes a day. I don’t want to buy the premium because it is too expensive. Can you at least give us 20 minutes of practice?
Didn’t receive premium
by Gister1233222 on 2019/10/20 15:25
I have been paying for premium subscription but didn't receive any of the features. The app is full of bugs. It's unfortunate that it charges a high mingle subscription for a buggy experience.
No viola
by pieromed on 2019/10/19 22:18
I would really like this app if it had a violin or viola or chello
Good but 1 problem
by Brycedog587 on 2019/10/19 20:14
Really good app I played piano for almost a year and got almost no where and a couple days on this app and Im 100x better! I also use it for ukulele! The problem is, there is no way im paying 20/30$ a month (I forget how much) for a membership!!!
Great.... but....
by PuppyRon5000🐶 on 2019/10/19 18:38
So this is really helpful with me learning the ukulele and you can pretty much play for free everyday. The only thing is you only get to do it for 20 mins or so each day, even if you come back later it won’t let you practice anymore. So other than that, this app is really good and I would recommend. Just be prepared for practicing for a limited time.
The best
by doriorio on 2019/10/19 16:01
The Yousician app is amazing and the new features are very useful when it comes to the hand-to-hand chords. Even though I know a lot of them, I still have a great time! -Timmy Pitzner
DO NOT UPGRADE OR YOU'LL BE CHARGED 2X
by larkswindow on 2019/10/19 13:42
Yousician charged me twice for annual fees once when my regular subscription renewed and again when I decided to upgrade to premium shortly thereafter. I already tried to get a refund through Apple iTunes. They denied it. Yousicisan said they can't refund it. So now I'm left to dispute it with my credit card company, cancel my subscription and leave a bad review about my experience. I feel like Yousicisan basically stole $120 when I decided to give them MORE of my business. Very bad form.
Weasels!
by Jwiscancer on 2019/10/19 06:57
Terrible customer support, haven’t had a response to any of my emails concerning the monthly payments that I DIDN'T want!! They signed me up for a year even though I only wanted a trial, I want my refund! They probably won’t even respond to this either, scamming pricks!
So far pretty good
by ru3hh on 2019/10/17 23:00
Pretty good
Good App
by Soccer2239 on 2019/10/17 22:46
I like this app, it is really helpful and effective But, there should be an option (maybe in the tuning section) to say if you have a missing string. Because my G string is currently broken and I can’t fix it for a few weeks, but I still want to practice. But me missing all the notes on the G string is really halting my progress, because short songs that have maybe 1 in 10 notes on the G string don’t allow you to go to the next part till you get a (?) average. Also, when playing, the program that is listening to me is wildly inaccurate. It will mark me as not playing a note when I did play the note. I am playing the Acoustic Guitar if that is something to consider.
Lefty help pls!!!
by kidleftie on 2019/10/17 16:41
I love the app. It’s great but pls make an option to have the scroll reverse so it’s correct for lefties it messes up the flow big time.
Corrupt company
by ueyiruwhk on 2019/10/17 03:45
If you sign up for this they will take money from your account for a year even if you don’t agree to it. When my credit card expired I thought that would be the end of it seems I had tried to cancel several times. They found a way to update the card and continue to change me to this day.
They Still Charge Me
by Albert Moran on 2019/10/16 22:37
This app is the worst when it comes to subscription. You look online and others can attest to the fact that once you add a subscription, it’s hard to get out of it. I got out of it through the app and they’re still charging me!! I requested a refund and have not heard back. They don’t have customer support phone contact. So you’re forced to either talk with Apple or send a request through their website! Don’t give them your card information, regardless of what you can unlock by giving in. I need my refund!! So do countless others!!
No violin!
by mochi_123 on 2019/10/16 01:10
I have a violin and I wanted to see if it had good ratings and it did so I downloaded it and I didn’t find a violin therefore,I never played the violin

by 🌲💨🥃😎8765309 jsgirl on 2019/10/16 01:02
Just getting started yet I can tell with self discipline & time this can be a decent alternative to actual lessons
Love this app
by CoachPoach on 2019/10/15 23:51
It’s thought me a lot more than what I would learn than going to a place to get taught by a teacher because you don’t have that much pressure. You can take all the time you want leading the frets or strings rather than having a 30 min lesson at some place that you have to pay more than for a membership on this app
It’s ok
by thjfowvrgbfd on 2019/10/15 23:30
Ok so I think that the singing part is quite bad and I don’t like it.but otherwise the guitar one is great
Started Great
by anonumous666 on 2019/10/15 21:23
The app was great at first but then it was constantly marking me wrong when I did so much as miss the key by a millisecond and other small mistakes.
Not enough instruments
by Bigeban51 on 2019/10/14 21:51
I’m trying to learn to play the violin and I watched a video on the violin and an ad for this app was on it but this doesn’t have a learning course for violin
Unfair Tests
by Nicname 292929 on 2019/10/14 21:10
Yousician is great for learning the basics, I learned Guitar, Ukulele and Keyboard with this app. However, there comes a point where I have to teach myself. For example, in the keyboard section, I was learning how to play simple melodies with two hands. It was great, until when I was tested. When I was tested, suddenly I had to change my hand positions; This was something I wasn’t taught how to do. It happened without warning, and I’ve been stuck on that song ever since. I gave up completely and now I teach myself how to play. Basically, what I’m saying is PLEASE DON’T TEST US ON STUFF WE WEREN’T TAUGHT. Other than that issue, I recommend this app for learning basics, then start teaching yourself once you hit level 4 or 5.
Yousician is the worst
by Cschecte on 2019/10/14 14:01
When I first downloaded yousician I thought it was really good but over time I noticed it made me off toon I then noticed every time I played a note it always told me I wasn’t than I played a g and it told me I was playing a d so never use this app it gives you false information
Does not work
by super_lupa on 2019/10/12 23:06
The app is great the first day the second day it says the same thing every time you try to continue "well done your sesión is over for today" it does not work I uninstalled it just because someone won't buy your premium does not mean they can't be in the app I do not recommend
Horrible
by yellowmonkeyfireball on 2019/10/12 20:23
You should make it available to all instruments
Learning guitar

Upset parent
by fabrizioooooahbdj on 2019/10/11 22:59
This service is a complete rip-off. They charge $30 a month for YouTube lessons and won’t let you cancel. If you do, they simply “renew”without your approval.
Electric gutairs
by kittycat😹😹😹 on 2019/10/11 21:46
This is more of a question but there is only Autistic guitar and bass Guitar. Unless one of them somehow teaches electric two. Please answer my question it seems like a great app I was just wondering.

I LOVE my Yousician!
by Me14863 on 2019/10/10 05:25
I grew up thinking I was tone deaf, I always admired the people that could see sheet music and understand it, and I thought I will NEVER understand music. Well, now I do!! I first downloaded the app and would only do the 10 minutes a day, which was perfect for me. Sometime along the way they had a promotion for a % off so I bought the Pro version and I love it, it was money well spent! You can learn different instruments, go fast or slow, there are games to help developing your hearing (ear trainers). I only with they had more well known songs (ahem... DISNEY SONGS! Yeah, I know they’re probably expensive to get the rights to). I have recommended the app to anyone I see has interest in music or has kids that are wanting to learn. Best of all, it’s made in Finland! Kiitos!!
Free version was ruined
by rustyspark on 2019/10/10 03:38
Loved the app, promoted it to every early/young musician I know. But now the free version is ruined. You can only use made up Yousician songs unless you pay for premium. During your free session time you should be able to use the commercial songs. I am going to have to find another app to use and promote. I don’t have more than 10 -15 min three two to three times a week to practice at this point. I am not going to pay premium now. When I get enough experience’s I would but it’s a waste of money now. Try Tabs by ultimate guitar instead.
Really???
by 2020293 on 2019/10/09 21:08
I’m playing the right notes and it’s telling me I’m not till I do it a million times it’s pretty annoying but I’m doing it unplugged on an electric guitar
You need to sign up for everything
by Supa skip to be mug on 2019/10/09 21:03
The app is very good and pretty sweet it has very good lessons and I suggest you follow them but the one thing that annoys me is everything you have or have to do or when you’re doing the little songs you need to sign up for everything just like I said in the title almost all the songs that are there and you need to sign up for I suggest you go use this app for tutorials and then for singing the songs go on a different app or just look up some songs and follow them this app is not good for singing songs but good at lessons.
DONT GET
by LiamTheCustomer on 2019/10/09 18:02
This app was awful it doesn’t pick up any notes that you play and you’re just stuck in a loop. This app is utterly useless and it cost money to actually otherwise you have the bare minimal to work with. Don’t waste your time with this awful app.
I’m actually learning
by Jaiiy on 2019/10/09 17:20
I love it, wish it was a little more affordable monthly , realistically for people practicing from an app. Again still an amazing app

Great App!
by qwerty12345myhands on 2019/10/07 21:05
I know that nobody reads reviews, but if you are, this app is great for a secondary instrument. I mainly play drums but this app is helping me learn bass on the side. I don’t suggest the paid subscription as it isn’t really necessary. Thanks for reading!

Doesn’t work
by 1957_ on 2019/10/06 12:43
It won’t let me use it anymore. I’ve only been using it for a few days and every time I try to continue, an ad starts. I don’t know if I should just delete.
Absolutely crap
by ahahahahhahahahahahahaaahhaha on 2019/10/06 03:35
It seems great, but you end up only doing 1 song and end up being cornered to pay an overpriced amount. I want to learn, however, I am 14 and have no income.
This app does not work.
by user_757 on 2019/10/06 01:44
My ukulele was in tune and it wasn’t recognizing AM7. I tried multiple times and it hardly ever worked. Not all ukulele will sound the same but...should be fixed. Do not recommend.

I want to add another instrement
by Gaming Frankie on 2019/10/05 19:38

Trash
by barefootwillie on 2019/10/02 13:34
Play guitar hero. You’ll learn just as much of the songs on guitar hero. This app is a game. Not a learning tool.
Ugh
by BSRPride on 2019/10/01 00:03
Please please add back the create a song option to where you can take a song off YouTube or anywhere and it’ll generate tabs I had so much fun with this app when that was a thing learned 100s of songs now it’s gone and there’s a couple popular songs not even sung by the artist:(
Bull crap can’t even learn anything
by hdjwidbdjwkdn on 2019/09/30 01:30
All I learned was tuning and then it shoved its premium in my face. Then I couldn’t even try a song that’s PART OF THE TUTORIAL. It makes me wanna pay for a brief 20 sec of seven nation army
Guitar
by bo0hoo on 2019/09/29 19:01
I’ve used this app for piano in the past and immediately chose to use it again to learn the guitar; since it made learning the piano easy. I was SO frustrated when it came to the practice songs. Most of the time I played the write fret it put it as incorrect. I became very impatient and as I said frustrated along the way.
Make it free
by No trillion on 2019/09/29 17:24
Make it free please
It is okay but fantastic
by Tiger3863 on 2019/09/29 16:01
My only problem is the premium it is so Annoying
Good app overall - songs are very bad.
by Skerric on 2019/09/29 02:08
I’m almost through my two week trial. I’ve really enjoyed both the lead and rhythm guitar lessons. In time I would check out the ear training ones too. I was going to go ahead and pay for the full year, but the songs section is so bad. Like all top 40 bad. No Jason Isbell, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, My Morning Jacket, Bruce Springsteen or anything close to resembling good music. It’s a shame too because the this app is really good.
Great app
by kitlut on 2019/09/28 18:17
Makes it so much easier to learn, I played bass before I started using Yousician and I’ve started guitar piano and singing with it I love it
Doesn’t give full 10 minutes
by Wildbreezer on 2019/09/28 04:08
Honestly, the “free lesson” is a joke. They constantly cheat you out of your time. My gauge registered 2/10 minutes and I was locked out. Shame, because I really like the format of the app, that it tells you when you hit wrong notes, etc. But it’s just constantly trying to strongarm you into paying for the subscription. And to try to coerce you into paying by cutting short the promised free time is ridiculous and certainly doesn’t make me want to give a penny.
What a bargain
by JonasBboySlim on 2019/09/27 19:47
This a great inexpensive way to work on your guitar skills
Wonderful!!
by Teen75 on 2019/09/27 03:20

I love this app but...
by Nice game for learning on 2019/09/25 03:14
I love this app, but I wish that after you pause the song, there would be a countdown timer so that you could get ready. For me, when I start the song after a pause, I always get the thing after the pause wrong. This would be really helpful to me.
It’s just another a money sucking app
by Mikhailov, Boris on 2019/09/24 22:33
You can’t advance if you don’t pay money has ads every couple of seconds so if you’re poor it’s not for you.
Doesn’t listen
by chnenrhjfbdbdmgnbwnxj on 2019/09/24 21:45
So the app is great and all except one thing it tells me to play the thinnest string, I play it and it doesn’t respond and it’s getting me so mad. 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡 Fix your problem Yousician!!
Its ok
by Lilderpgod on 2019/09/24 01:03
The problem is that I still sometimes struggle to move my hands close to the strings but when a number color pops up till sometime es makes me forget what I’m doing but it’s an ok app just brought a premium for 40$
Not accessible
by A new soul on 2019/09/23 06:26
Hello developers of yousician I am a person who is totally blind, and I am in the midst of learning how to play guitar on my own!! This app kept popping up on YouTube! So I thought I would give it a try! Didn’t get anywhere, because it is not accessible for VoiceOver which is the Apple screen reader! This app is not accessible for those who are totally blind. I couldn’t do anything with it!! Maybe you could work with Apple or other programmers and musicians and could create something for those of us who are totally blind, or legally blind, and want to learn to play an instrument.

What The Heck
by s Seyer on 2019/09/22 22:25
This app is useful in getting someone familiar with an instrument, slowly and efficiently. It’s good for that, but if you want to spend more than 20 minutes on it, you have to pay for another lesson. The only way to remedy this is to pay for premium. “Free daily lessons”? Really? It’s so ridiculous to think that you have to pay to practice with this app.
So quick and good!
by player66 on 2019/09/22 22:24
I've been looking for vocal lessons and I really desperately need to improve my vocals quickly. I love thus because it's super cheap, simple to use, efficient, and fun. I one hundred percent recommend this to anyone in need of detailed lessons
Best for newbies and pros
by Greatest for everbody on 2019/09/22 22:08
I was a newbie and started on YouTube with tutorials I didn’t understand anything, then I tried this app and now my friends make me play Guitar for them, and I still use it to this day, 5 stars!
Impossible to remove without being charged!!!
by ek765 on 2019/09/22 20:11
I tried the one week free trial, the app was ok but not worth the cost in my opinion so I have been trying to cancel and it is almost impossible. You can't remove it from your iTunes account, and you can't cancel it from within the app. You can delete all your information and data but it clearly says that deleting your data does not prevent recurring charges! How on Earth do I end this thing? I'm trapped!

Great so far
by Hunter Mimi on 2019/09/22 17:18
I just bought my uke and it feels so easy to be able to learn then other apps, I used to play piano but it got serious and I just wanted something to play in my spare time. This app makes it fun and makes you feel good about your performance, even though I haven't bought premium and I'd like to play more than 10 mins, I'll take it for free. Maybe add a few songs that people know for free and I'll give it a six, but so far awesome!
Bad mic recognition

Just getting started, but so far super helpful!
Not made for beginners!!
by ttorrrr on 2019/09/22 00:47
This app is great and all for “PROFESSIONALS.” Sure it may help you learn instruments but I’m pretty good at piano and I can learn almost any songs in about a week but I can’t even do it correctly because it times you and that makes it super hard and you have to press the key at the exact time! If your a beginner it wouldn’t help cause it would go too fast and doesn’t even let you choose the tempo! How do you expect for a beginner to all of a sudden know all the notes and it goes fast at random moment unlike actual piano classes. Like a real piano class you can start off easy and slow even if it’s a hard song to play. This app just goes fast and puts in hard notes to play at like the first level of playing!! LIKE WHAT THE HECK?! They obviously don’t care about like the beginners. If you a professional and can like read notes in a snap I would recommend it but if your a person who can’t read notes quickly I wouldn’t. I would suggest you go to like actual piano classes unlike an app that won’t even tell you how to sit, how to show expressions, doesn’t tell you how to make the sound louder and softer, and doesn’t even show you your hand position! I go to a real piano class which is five stars and the teacher shows me all the ways to make your song perfect. After I found this problem I immediately deleted it cause even if your good at piano like me but can’t read the notes INSTANTLY, I would say “ no no” to this app. Good luck on trying to find a actual GOOD pace to learn piano like me. Thanks for listening!

Purchased app for my daughter to learn guitar. She used it 10 minutes but it wasn’t easy for her to follow. She learned nothing and didn’t use it again. 1 week later I cancelled, but was still charged $60 dollars!!!!

Although it’s only free for 10 minuets everyday but that’s still plenty! And with great videos on instructions too, I love this app! 😍

Guitar lessons

Been using this app on and off for years and mainly for guitar. I love that I can perfect it, challenge myself. I recently used it for voice and not much of a fan of it, so I just stick to the instruments.
Makes learning fun and easy.
by Purple_elephant_25 on 2019/09/20 05:39
This is a great way to get started as a beginner. Learn multiple instruments and instantly feel you’re making progress...even with the free version and basic melodies. Soon to upgrade to play my favorites.

Great app one problem
by L0skitty on 2018/11/01 18:52
This app is super helpful! I decided to learn ukulele but unfortunately I am not dedicated enough to pay for a premium account. Even just the 10 minutes a day helps so much, and even after just a month or two I'm starting to learn how to play songs. But I do have a problem with the new update. Just a couple minutes ago, I logged into the app ready to play my free session and saw the app could be updated. So I updated it. After it's updated I logged into the app started playing, realized the microphone in my iPad was not working and the app couldn't hear me (which may have been my problem but when I swiped out the app it seemed to work again) it only took me like a minute- not even that to fix it I'd say it took like 45 seconds maybe- and then I started my guided practice, played one song and then my lesson was over?? I checked my goals and it said 2/10 minutes played but then when I try to go back to guided practice it makes me wait 12 hours. I know I'm not putting money into this app yet (I am considering it) but if you guys are advertising to give 10 minutes of free lesson time a day then you need to give us our free time! Other than that the app is great, I highly recommend it to beginners learning to play one of the instruments they teach. I did only just update it today so it could just be a glitch, but if it is a tough that is something that needs to be fixed! Sorry for the super long review! Have a good day to whoever may be reading this!!
3 1/2 Stars
by ShaunN55 on 2019/02/02 17:17
This app makes learning a game. That is fun and great. I love when you are learning cords it shows you exactly which string(s) are “dead”. I love the option to “perfect” a song. That makes it challenging and motivational. I like how quickly they responded when I had a question. There is a lot to love about this app. So why 3 1/2 stars? It’s great so far to use to learn the guitar. However, once I get to the point that I want to be, just basic chords and notes there isn’t any Christian music which I prefer to play. They do have a board to vote for songs and there are some Christian songs on that board that I voted for. Considering that the tops songs are up in the hundreds of votes and the Christian songs are in the tens and just by the time I spent looking at the message board one request gets filled a month or so. That doesn’t look good for Christian music options on Yousicion any time soon. Still this is a fun app, easy to use, super fun to play, addicting even! So the 3 1/2 stars is MY personal preference. To pay 179$ for a year without music I personally prefer to play is a tough call. I am on the fence about it when my free trial runs out for just that reason. I do think in the future they will probably pick up some popular Christian songs and then it will be way way easier to pay for.
I absolutely love this app!
by 8Pat7 on 2018/03/21 06:26
I have the subscription for the guitar. When I first downloaded the app it had some glitches but since the latest update I don’t have any complaints and even when it glitched (the sound wouldn’t play at times usually if the lesson was stopped due to other activity on my phone) if I exited the app and came back it was fine. I only have praise for Yousician! This app has sooo many different helpful components. From video and lessons to songs and challenges (against other users) to charts and emails that encourage you and track your progress. All the video lessons are extremely easy to comprehend and the layout makes it extremely easy to navigate. It is super addictive!!! There are several times Ive been totally sucked in spending hours glued to the app trying to perfect a lesson to rack up gold stars. I promise you the money is beyond worth it! You cannot beat the convenience of going at your pace practicing at any time for as long as you like! There are 3 sections (knowledge, rhythm, and lead). I have completed knowledge and I’m on the 3rd level of rhythm. I love the progressive levels. Rhythm and lead each have 10 levels and knowledge has 5. The gradual build from one lesson to another is pretty much flawless. I’m definitely going to write a review when I’m finished with all 3 sections. This app is my blessing!
I love this app😍
by my dream singing app on 2019/07/06 03:15
OK so first I thought this app is so good in my ask me for too much money. But it’s different you don’t have to pay money I mean if you want to it’s $30 per month but who want to do that. Instead you can play along with any instrument do you have and it will give you free time to play and once the free times over you try tomorrow. This way you can learn so much, they even did you singing there’s one instrument you can’t plan that, drums. It will ask you for money now and then but you can just refuse. That’s why I give it a five star. Currently in this app I am learning singing and piano, it is so very helpful. It’s helpful when you’re just a nine-year-old and it’s vacation and you have nothing to do.(I am a nine year old) back in my home I took piano classes and didn’t exactly work out because I didn’t know what to do, and he tried so hard I mean I tried hard but I couldn’t understand anything to years later here in America I told him many apps piano apps and ask me for money so I had to delete them but Yousician is different I love it. I know it asks for money but you can just refuse. My mom doesn’t have a car so I can’t go to any classes with this app I can learn anything on the piano sitting at home. In Conclusion this is a great app.
So so enjoyable and helpful

I can’t recommend Yousician enough. I remember when Rock Band came out I kept saying I wish someone would make something like this where you actually learn and...here it is! I’ve been playing about a year and first, it’s SO fun. Secondly, I am learning so quickly. I do ten minutes a day but usually end up puttering another 10. The people who make this app have put so much thought, care and love into the layout and lessons. I really can’t recommend enough. I have premium bc I thought I’d like to play the famous songs but actually I find I enjoy the ones yousician has a lot more - they are usually not more than two minutes or so and are very carefully composed and calibrated to help you work on really specific things and help you progress. Also a lot of them are some of my favorite tunes now - playing in the park! I still pay for premium thought bc this is a service worth paying for. You will find yourself looking forward to having a few empty moments in your day so you can mess around. Looking forward to what they keep coming up with and THANKS for making such a great app. I would like more instructional videos on exact finger placement and strumming - I think I tug a lot of my strings around and don’t know how to stop.
I like it but there’s something you need to fix
by LuxsGalaxy on 2017/11/04 16:45
I really enjoy learning from Yousician. I’m learning to play the piano at the moment. I learned from my friends and I know a lot of notes and a few songs but I want to learn the basics and try and get really good. One thing I don’t really like though is the premium thing. Like I get that people have to make a profit so you do this premium program but not everyone has the time and money to learn this. I feel like Yousician got more attention if you’d let aspiring piano players (or any instrument) learn faster and for free. Shouldn’t everyone has access to the beauty of music? I have a friend who’s been learning piano for 7 years from her teacher but she has to pay about 100 or something per lesson. So i’d much rather learn from Yousician but I can’t learn as fast and as efficiently as I’d like to because of this silly program. Maybe if you made people pay money for something else in the app like idk maybe to unlock a song you need a certain amount of points and if you don’t have enough you can pay to unlock it. Something like that. I just think that if you made it free that you’d get a lot more attention :) but that’s my opinion. I just hope you agree with me, and thanks if you read this whole thing by the way
Worth the money pays for itself in 3 lessons
by Metalmadman666 on 2018/02/06 01:40
I am a veteran musician (not a guitarist) I am a vocalist but I always had a guitar laying around, picked it up and learned a few chords but that’s it. Now in my 40’s I decided to pick up guitar a get serious. I know it’s late in life but thought it would be a great hobby away from my normal music and singing career. So I am now on week 2 of the premium version and I love it. I’ve had my guitar in my hands more in 2 weeks than the last 30yrs. I started at the very beginning to be sure not to miss a lesson, trick, or nuance, something I might have rushed or overlooked in the past. I am now at my level, comfort, challenges and knowledge where I left off years ago. I definitely have gotten better with all 3 levels “lead, knowledge and rhythm”. This app is fun and addicting. It keeps you motivated and interested in learning. Definitely worth the money it paid for itself 100 times over in the last 2 weeks compared to the cost of what a real teacher would’ve cost including the time, traveling, gas etc. I’ve tried a few guitar apps and this one is by far the most fun and a lot less frustrating than the others. Can’t wait to learn more. I’ll write another review in 3 months. 🤘💀🤘
Good just a few problems
by Camilerz on 2019/07/16 18:40
This app in general is so good. There’s only a few little problems. When I play piano on this app, it tests me on notes and sometimes the microphone doesn’t work and I get really annoyed. And the other problem is the premium. I really want to get the premium but it’s 160 dollars per year (around there) and some people just can’t afford that. I know you’re trying to get money and all but I think for some people it’s too much and you should lower the price or have another choice for each week or month. If you don’t have premium, you can only practice 10 minutes each day (at least for piano).Other than those problems, it’s a really fun app. Update: okay it’s been a while and the microphone works better now but there’s one major MAJOR problem. It deleted all my progress! I’m restarting everything and I’m really annoyed. I didn’t sign out of my account or anything and it deleted my progress. I might be generous or not for giving you 3 stars. Update again: okay thank you so much for replying back to me it means a lot. I knew about the subscriptions monthly and yearly which I didn’t know you could cancel the monthly so thank you. And thank you for the new content. I will definitely change my rating.
Great...but
by Taegan Mae on 2018/12/29 09:36
Yousician has been really helpful in my guitar journey. I have learned a lot about the different ways to play and how to play most effectively, and sometimes it will give you a song to play as part of your lesson. Now I’m not a master guitar player, but sometimes it will tell me that I played the wrong note, when I clearly played the right one. My microphone is clearly exposed to the sound of my guitar and my guitar is fully in tune. I will pluck a string, and it will say that I got it wrong, even though I plucked the right string in the right fret. Worst of all, some lessons require you to get 100% completion on a song in order to move on and complete a skill, so sometimes I will find myself playing a song over and over and over for more time than I would like to spend perfecting every note of the song. Also, things like this can be really frustrating, I would know, and if you play a song without wearing headphones, the microphone will pick up what your speakers are spitting out and tell you that you’re wrong for every note until you wear headphones. It tells you before hand to “wear headphones for best experience” you basically have to wear headphones in order to use the app. And if you don’t have headphones with you, then you’re in quite a pickle. The app is great, but can get very frustrating.
Free version is a good learning tool
by Camdell on 2018/06/10 15:51
The free version is a good learning tool with plenty of versatility to try different instruments or styles. You do have to put up with an ad every few minutes and there’s a limit to the amount of time you can use in one day, but for beginning or casual players it’s sufficient. The paid version, however, feels like a scam. The monthly version for $20 limits you to one instrument for ad free, unlimited playing. I paid for piano for my daughter and then she got interested in the ukulele =money wasted. The annual version allows you to switch between instruments theoretically, but only if you are willing to cough up $120 up front. Worse: it’s super easy to sign up for a subscription and impossible to cancel. Signing up happens with a click of a button on the app. However, to cancel one has to sign in to iTunes and cancel the subscription. However, after attempting to do this multiple times, Yousician is still trying to charge my debit card every day. The only reason for the 3 stars is the free version. The paid version gets 1 or less! Update: customer service assured me that account had been cancelled; however, a new gift card entered in iTunes was immediately charged. It appears that we paid $20 for the ‘privilege’ of canceling the service. Funds are not refunded when you cancel. This is completely unethical business practice. Too bad because the app concept is good.
Great app but...
by GodsGirl618 on 2018/05/19 13:08
Yousician has been an awesome app. Ive been using the app to learn both guitar and ukulele the past few weeks and have progressed fairly quickly, but not without some frustrations. Frequently the app has trouble distinguishing me from its own background track, and will fail me on a song that I am playing correctly. This forces me to go back and play the song again, usually an extra 3 or 4 times, before it will pick up enough of my playing to allow me to move on with the lesson. I also wish it would teach you a few more songs that I could play outside of the app. I have gotten through several levels on both instruments and have not really learned any songs on either. Playing along with the music during the lesson works well enough, but when you’re done with your lesson the app pretty much locks down everything, including the songs you’ve already unlocked, unless you have premium. This is new since the update, and I wish it would go back! I understand not being able to access new content outside your allotted 10/15 minutes without paying, but without being able to practice what you’ve already started working on, it really slows down progress.
Good intentions but bad app!
by vlogbuster on 2019/05/28 00:15
I know the guitar basics like frets picks how to hold it and that. Well the app assumes the basics include all the chords! Ok so I deleted it and chose that I knew nothing. While I was learning the basics this seemed like a very good app. I was about to write a great review about it. Around the first song I realized I was playing the write note but it said I was wrong. Sometimes I was but rarely. The times I was wrong I was around a fret off. Well according to the app I was four strings off. If you play guitar you know how diffract Hi E and low E sound so I don’t know how the app mixed those two up. So every time you finish a song it gives you a ad for the premium version of this game. It’s fine to advertise on your app but after every single thing you do is far past the breaking point! You also get only 10 minutes without premium! Imagine a guitar instructor comes to your house only for ten minutes a day. And like 24 hour day not just comes at 8 on day and 5 on the other. No it’s either 24 hours or more! Remember this is just constructive criticism. Please don’t get offended by this. Here is some advice to make the app better. First only focus on one instrument. You do a mediocre job on around 6 instruments. If you just teach one instrument then it’s mediocre X 6 which would make an amazing emphasis on amazing app so please follow my advice and again this is just constructive criticism so please don’t get offended😊
Great for beginners
by PLG0624 on 2018/12/28 12:32
This app is teaching me how to play the bass guitar and if I do say so myself, I’m coming along great! It definitely does what it advertises. The fact that Yousician not only teaches me how to play, but I’m gaining physical knowledge on the actual guitar. It’s almost as if I were getting real life guitar lessons!! It is user friendly, efficient, prompt, and accurate. Couldn’t be more pleased with an app that does all that Yousician does, that’s FOR SURE! It makes it to where I enjoy the lessons. The free trial is great too because it allows the students to check out the app and see if it suits them or not. Everyone is different so, the fact that you can try Yousician absolutely free is super neat! One last thing that I have to mention; whoever thought of the “daily goal” idea when producing this app was absolutely marvelous! I think that was so cool and inspiring! I go over the daily goal of course, 😉 but when I first saw that, I thought it was awesome! So kudos on that detail. So all in all, this app is simply and purely genius. Thank you very much! After my free trial is up, I will be purchasing whatever needs purchasing. In a few weeks I’ll be able to rock out with my boyfriend and his band mates!
Makes learning fun!
by TARDISKATE on 2017/12/09 22:31
I got my first ukulele while on a cruise to Hawaii. They had fun classes onboard taught by a Hawaiian ambassador. He was such a neat fun guy and had me loving the ukulele. When I got home I wanted to learn more and found this app. This app is fun, easy to understand and has kept me loving my uke. I play daily at least 30 mins using this app. My dad uses it as well with his uke. It’s fun to see how we are progressing on our playing skills. I like how you can practice a song and slow down the tempo. I tend to start at 75% speed to kinda learn the song, cords or fretting. Then I move up in increments of 10% until I feel ready to preform the song in the actual lesson. One thing I’d suggest when using the app. Use earbuds. Sometimes if you have the app too loud it has issues hearing your instrument, if you are a soft player. Earbuds or the like, are perfect as you can clearly hear the lesson and your instrument. As for the price for premium... I think it’s very reasonable. Lessons taught in person would cost much more. Plus this app offers lessons for guitar, bass, ukulele and piano! A great bang for your buck, I’d say. Long story short, if you want to learn to play... I highly recommend this fun app.
Blessed With This App
by Lalaallaly on 2018/01/17 03:31
We all know lessons can be expensive in reality. Ranging from as little as $20 to $60 PER lesson, and that’s just for beginners. So how does a blossoming musician learn without being robbed of their money and having to GO TO the lesson, and only able to practice what the trainers assign or what you can find online. To me, that doesn’t sound very convenient. The answer is simple- YOUSICIAN! They walk you through everything, giving you personalized lessons and feedback. There’s such a wide variety of songs, you can almost always find what you’re looking for! I play the guitar, and for as little as $9.99 a month, I’m able to work around my own schedule, not someone else’s to be able to learn the guitar more effectively. I can even tell the app how much time I have for the lesson, and they work with that. Again, this is an inexpensive, convenient, efficient, and effective way to learn your dream instrument. This app works for the busiest people to the people who want to spend all their time learning, and 1 lesson per week isnt cutting it. Don’t spend over a hundred dollars a month on lessons, when you have Yousician right in front of you! 👌🏻Yousician is a blessing!!!
Good tool for practice
by Bags4028 on 2019/01/04 05:31
I’m already a working musician (rhythm guitar and bass in a couple of bands), so I came to Yousician to work specifically on lead guitar skills it’s been easy to neglect. On that, it has delivered; I’m a more confident soloist than I was a year ago, with more techniques in my repertoire. This wasn’t a goal, but I’m also more comfortable playing against a click track. Bonus! A few quibbles: The app doesn’t seem to judge the quality of notes—I’ve gotten a “Perfect” for clams that I would never accept in a recording session. Some of the fingerings seem a little off, more commonly in the assigned finger than in the fret/string. I’ve occasionally gotten stuck in what feels like an endless practice loop of the same song: I think I’m done with it, and then it’s there the next time I open the app, and it must be passed before I can move on to anything else. And the synthy-ness of the arrangements can be a little annoying (though it’s probably a necessary evil to accommodate the tempo shifts). Still, this does what it says it does, and the structure really does make you practice more. I’m not sure I would make this (or any app) my only approach to learning an instrument, but it’s a great supplement.
Great app! Few minor tweaks
by gogaton on 2018/11/25 21:56
There seems to be some issue with logging in when starting up. I kept getting logged out and a couple times had to restart all progress from scratch because it didn’t save onto my account for some reason. Also, when learning the guitar, the “chord checker” trainings are WAY too strict in my opinion. One string will be only slightly not ringing out, but otherwise the chord sounds good and it won’t let me move on. That level of strictness is good for if I’m supposed to play x number of chords exactly right to move on. But when it requires a lot of chords to be played in a short amount of time and it will only accept them if each one is absolutely entirely technically perfect it’s way too difficult for a beginner. I keep getting stuck on those lessons for hours and not able to get past which is super frustrating. I know for an advanced player changing chords quickly and accurately is crucial. But as a beginner I just want confirmation that I’m doing it at lost almost totally right so I can keep learning, then I can go back and fine tune and perfect.
Almost good.
by Rbally10 on 2018/12/12 21:30
What the app does well, it does well. Teaching the basics to beginners, proper technique and the like. However at the door of all of that, when you’re getting into playing the songs that are available, it really loses its shine. The song list is extremely basic, I constantly find myself listening and filling in tons of blank spaces. Single note trains isn’t fun or challenging for a bass player and leads me outright frustration. Some of the best known bassists aren’t even on the playlists, aside from rhcp, and some classic players from the ages. The problem with this is while it structures the fundamentals for bass, it doesn’t teach or challenge a player into becoming an outstanding bassist that really stands out on stage. Seeing as I paid the full 180 dollars for the year subscription, I feel I have grounds to complain about this. I also recommend, if the developers even read this, to include an option to disable vocals. The singers are very jarring to listen to. A playlist of songs that are incrementally more challenging and use unorthodox Basslines is something I hope to see in the future; as it stands for bass the song choices are incredibly monotonous. I can only speak for the bass side of things.
This is the best!

OMG I have wanted to play guitar for 2 years now and now I can actually play it! I have had this app for 3 days and it has literally changed my life in so many ways and all of them are good ways! It can teach you in a short amount of time I have already done 6 exercises and I think I’m ready to join a competition please get this app it is amazing and I give it 5 stars no duh! I love this app and feel like it’s perfect for anyone who needs to either let the music hold your sad and depressing feelings (me) and also people who want to start a hobbie or career I feel like the people who made this picked the right one to make, they could have chose a lot of other things but they chose music the thing that lifts people up and gives them hope when they are down music is apart of us and we wouldn’t be able to be kind and amazing people we are today without it so get Yousician the best music teacher you’ll ever have! And remember music will guid you through your way to happiness so the shorter you download it the better you will feel. Music is love.
Great Idea, Terrible Platform
by Electromagnet83 on 2018/06/29 21:52
I’m so frustrated with this program right now. I bought it because I like it but it’s extremely difficult to get the program to read all of your notes. I’m a 20 year guitar veteran who is going through everything to try and get all the gold stars before I advanced to the higher stuff. I first started out using my phone but the sound coming out of the phone conflicted with the sound going in the phone and cost a bunch of problems. So I started using headphones. This works great when you’re playing bass, there are rarely issues. But when playing guitar I’ve had to go as far as using a USB interface on my computer plugging the guitar directly into it and using the amp sounds within the program. However it regularly grinds to a halt like the audio engine can’t support it, even though I’m running it on a really good system that I custom built. There’s one particular exercise were in a matter how many times I hit this one particular low email it won’t register it. A succession of two emails and it just won’t register the second one like two out of three times. Making it impossible for me to get gold stars and making me very frustrated. I’m so mad at this program right now
Annoying bug keeps me from playing

When I first got yousician, I thought it was an amazing app and I learned how to play real fast, well in my perspective at least. Anyhow, I like being on call with people and I used to stay on call while playing in yousician, but one day an update stopped that. Basically now, anytime I try selecting a song or tuning my guitar, it says “please select an audio output” so I pick one of the following, after that it tells me that it failed. I’ve tried most of everything I could. In the end, im not able to use the app when on call, I have to end the call to play and I don’t like that. Other than this, everything is fair and amazing. I just can’t use the app as much and no longer plan on buying premium, why would I if I don’t use the app often. If I find a way around this, if it fixes, or something that allows me to use the app while on a call, I’ll gladly change my review. (Edit after response) -already contacted support after putting up this review, sadly enough after they looked into it, they said the mic won’t work with the call on, and they recommended me use the app after I’m off call... I wouldn’t be here if it was just as simple as me ending the call.
What once was a great app is now ruined
by dariusmr on 2018/12/26 03:06
I’ve virtually never written a review in my life but I felt compelled to in this situation considering how much I used to love this app. I downloaded Yousician over a year ago and was initially blown away. I used to take guitar lessons when I was much younger and the app made it so easy to pick it back up again. Lessons used to be guided with videos and your progression in technique was mapped out in a diagram that outlined what had been completed and what was yet to come. There were several other competitor apps that I considered but what really set Yousician apart was the community of shared and user created content. With recent updates to the app they’ve removed user created content wiping out 90% of their artist and song catalogue. (For those of you who don’t understand the significance of this, user created content enabled you to find virtually any song you were looking for.) After reading that “popular” songs were reserved for premium+ subscribers I upgraded only to be disappointed, again, at the lack of content. For any new users reading who have signed up since July/August, this app used to offer so much more without having to trick people into paying more for less. And what an absolute shame, it really used to be great.
Good except for one thing
by Slopok1 on 2019/06/24 21:11
I have been using this app for a little while now and I’ve been loving it! I enjoy how the songs aren’t too fast for beginners and you can try them over and over again. I also like practice mode, where you can slow down how fast the song goes so you can work your way up to the normal speed. The only reason I’m rating this 4 stars is because almost every time I go to start a song this message pops up with the option to try out the 7 day free trial. I understand that Yousician wants to get as many people to try or buy the Premium stuff, but I don’t want to be shown the offer 3 times during my free lesson time, and it takes away from my time as well. Point being, I’m tired of seeing the pop up message and I just want to get to my song. This happens every single day I practice. I don’t need to be shown something over and over again. The only message I will accept is the one that lets you know when you free lesson time is up, but the others are unacceptable. Thank you.
Tab
by Dan50243 on 2017/10/30 06:39
So I downloaded this because I'm new to the ukulele (like 5 days new). I'd had pretty good practice before downloading this (I knew how to read tab and was pretty good at quickly moving between chords) the only thing that bothers me about this is when I have to play. While the bouncy ball/track aesthetic seems like a fun way to learn, to me it's just confusing and causes me to lose track of what string the ball is going to bounce on vs. where my finger is. Is there a way to convert tests/practices to regular tab rather than a track? If not please add that in. Other than that, this has been extensively helpful. *Update* I played around with it and found something similar to what's mentioned above. But not enough. It would be much more helpful if the track at least ran vertically instead of horizontally. What would be most helpful is a page showing the individual tabs with a mini track going through the them rather than laying them on a track. I imagine that'd be a hell of a lot cheaper to animate than what you guys got now.
Amazing! But one huge problem.
by tapia.angel13 on 2018/11/07 05:36
I’m willing to change this to a 5 if this gets fixed. The way it teaches is great! It pretty much makes learning music into a fun game. I was using it when I first started, it’s been 6 years and I’m starting to use it again to refine my skills. What really irritates me, are the videos. It will play for 2 seconds, until it starts stuttering and cutting out. Then I stop. Rewind. Does it over and over again. I’ve tried getting on and off different wifis, it’s not my connection. It’s always the same. I’m unable to use the videos because they’re so frustrating to try and get to speed without stopping. It gets to a point where I’m unable to actually learn anything from the videos because it won’t go on for more than 2 seconds at a time. If this gets fixed, I’d be more than pleased. But I’m super visual and I really enjoy having videos to go on top of the practices. I’m worried for when I get to the level where I actually am in real life, and to where I’m actually going to have to start learning things I don’t already know on the program.
Super helpful but incomplete.
by Alliecat03 on 2019/06/02 16:51
I decided to pick up a yousician subscription again to learn bass over the summer because I had a really good experience when I used it to learn the ukulele. It’s really helped with my technique, speed, and motivation, and I like that I can practice by myself and for as long as I want. It also has helped me learn some basic music theory that is helpful for the bass. However, coming back, it seems like the interface is a little more empty- I couldn’t find the community/fan made songs anymore? The song choices are kind of basic and lacking. I was hoping to learn some green day bass lines with yousician but it seems there is none, I assume because of copyright and ownership stuff, but it would be nice to bring back the community made/make your own tab thing. Not a big deal since you can find tabs all over the internet, but it’s helpful to use yousician since it gives real time feedback and you can slow it down to practice.
One of the best apps I’ve ever used
by Wombat3456 on 2018/09/14 04:23
I rediscovered my love for playing guitar through this app. Before, I was in a rut from not knowing what to play or do when I sat down to practice. Since using yousician however, I haven’t had this problem. It gives me plenty to work on every day, for as much as I want. Plus, with the love feedback and data it tracks, I’m able to see my progress (I’d love to see more analytics in future releases). The songs are varied, unique, and provide great foundation for playing more advanced songs you actually care about. My absolute favorite feature is the practice mode. You can slow down the tempo of anything you’re working on, to literally any speed, then yousician will automatically increase or decrease the tempo based on how well you perform. This app is well worth the money I paid for it. Stick with it, and you’ll get great returns on your investment (fun, guitar skills, and anything else that comes from playing).
Worth The Price of Admission to the World of Musicians

Started learning the guitar (classical) through Yousician four weeks ago & have progressed faster than I thought possible... Serious about learning the guitar? Want well thought-out, fun, interesting, motivating, intelligent, and logically presented lessons & information designed for individual pacing? Looked into guitar lessons but don’t have the flexibility to commit to a regular time and place on a weekly basis? Have you calculated the cost of annual guitar lessons with a professional teacher? Yousician has earned Apple’s Editors’ Choice and my recommendation because it epitomizes the power of an App: the power to teach effectively & the power to learn efficiently, entertainingly & conveniently. ...Some days I practice for 10 minutes & others I practice for over an hour. Yousician allows you to cater your lessons to your schedule. Yes, for an app it initially seems to have a high price but the annual subscription equates to less than 4 one hour lessons with a good professional guitar teacher & you can learn at the pace your sore fingertips allow. Whether I practice for 10 minutes or an hour, Yousician has proven to represent a great investment towards reaching my guitar playing goals. I also plan to Yousician some piano skills soon. Yousician: well worth the price of admission to join the world of musicians. Not affiliated with the creators — just an avid and appreciative Youser;-)
This app is amazing, with room to improve
by Batcat43 on 2018/10/12 15:14
I'm an absolute music beginner and I have been using Yousician for guitar for about a month. I live the app and feel like I'm making real progress. Practice mode is very helpful for slowing down the tempo, honing in on the trickiest parts of a song, and repetition. The lessons are well-designed and the feedback is genuinely motivating. Hearing the Aussie accented "instructor" compliment me on my performance is surprisingly uplifting. A couple areas for potential improvement: first, I'd love to be able to print out the guitar tabs so I could practice offline and get used to reading tabulature in non-electronic format. Second, I wish I could have another family on my account, but with separate profiles so we could both be learning at our own pace, even if it required a small upcharge. And hopefully Yousician will continue to be able to license more and more well known songs to add to the fun.
Good idea, but not executed properly.
by cuckoofish03 on 2017/09/30 19:57
This app is such a great idea, and I’m so glad it’s mostly free, but there’s a huge difference between the lesson and the test. How frustrating is it when you know the material and do well at playing it and then you take the test and it’s completely different and much more complicated? It’s very frustrating. That’s what Yousician does. The lessons will give you a few chords to play and they’ll slow down the song for you when you are tested at the end of the lesson, but when a skills test comes up, there’s no practice, slowing it down, pausing it, or warning as to what you will have to play. Usually these are hard and quite frankly frustrating tests that (even though they only use the things you learned) go much faster than you’re used to. Taking one of these tests usually will have you extremely frustrated or maybe in tears. Another problem: for some reason, every time I use the app, it doesn’t automatically use my iPhone microphone to pick up sounds, so when I forget to turn it on, it fails me when I play at all because it won’t pick up noise. Please fix this; it’s insanely frustrating. They also don’t teach piano chords the easier way, and even though I knew how to play chords already, since I needed to unlock newer lessons, I had to relearn them in a strange and much harder way on Yousician. Once again, it’s such a great idea and has been pretty helpful in learning piano, but there are some big problems in the way of success.
Too soon to tell
by Antilabel13 on 2019/08/11 13:18
So far it’s been fun, free version is super basic so it’s way to early to tell if it’s any good for learning songs or improving certain higher-level skills. But over all it’s like playing guitar hero with an actual guitar which makes practicing fun and gratifying. However it’s quite expensive for the paid version which is a bit of a turn off. If the price could be a little lower say $100 or $125 for a year. That would be more reasonable to me. Update: developer responded to my review with some generic message stating there is both yearly and monthly membership options the yearly requiring a commitment and the monthly being able to be cancelled anytime. Felt this response was unneeded as I’m not an idiot and could see that for myself and it doesn’t address the issue I had with the price. So thanks for the response I guess? Makes me question what level of customer service one could expect from this company; it certainly didn’t give me any more confidence in purchasing a membership on the platform.
Does some things well....
by Chris1960! on 2019/03/02 14:53
It definitely teaches you to find chords and notes without looking at the fretboard because you have to follow the bouncing ball. However, I am gold through level 5 and wouldn't say I can play guitar. The knowledge path teaches you essential but very basic music theory. In the lead path it randomly throws scales at you without much explanation. The video game like play is good and bad. The good is that it gives you a feeling that you are progressing and you are but you can’t rely on it alone to teach you. It's more like harder and harder exercises so you have to supplement it with some other type of learning. It's not perfect in hearing what you are playing which can be frustrating. One last thing: transcribe and learn some songs and try to play them without following the ball. This will improve your timing and simulate real world playing. All in all it's one of the best apps I've tried but mix it up with something else like GuitarTricks.
No app cares less about its users
by jqlogic on 2019/01/23 01:45
I’ve used this app for almost a year, paying an annual subscription for the highest level of functionality. It could be amazing. But the general pattern has been to remove functionality again and again, in particular the ability to create and practice your own songs, with no communication at all to the end user. I spent many hours laboriously keying in songs I wanted to practice into Yousician. I even bought a special program (guitar pro) just in order to get my songs on the Yousician platform so I could practice them. Then one day, poof — Yousician deleted every single one of my songs. No explanation offered. I emailed to ask whether my songs would ever come back. No response. From an app I’m paying over $100 a year to use. It’s hard to explain how it feels to have songs you have spent dozens of hours practicing just deleted one day, with no comment. All the stats, and the metrics you were using to progress—gone. The level of disregard Yousician has for its users is truly shocking. It’s not hard to keep an open line of communication with your users, but Yousician doesn’t bother.
Good at teaching, bad at being user friendly
by 1930768427584348 on 2018/09/30 00:18
My main complaint with this is just how often there is an ad to use the “pro version” or whatever. Practice times are very short, so having constant reminders that if i fork over money, i can play as long as i want is really annoying. I’m not paying $15 per month, that’s way too much for what it’s worth, so stop cramming it in my face . I don’t mind the suggestion of a pro version, but just do it once when the session is over. The app itself though, is definitely pretty good, it teaches well and has a pleasant user face. HOWEVER, it’s not $15 good. The price is especially a rip off if you only plan on learning 1 instrument, $10 for one instrument is outrageous. If i were learning from an actual person that sat right next to me and taught me how to play, then that would be more reasonable, but it’s not, it’s an app on your phone. Maybe if the app itself costed a flat rate of $15 then it would be okay, but 15 a month is dumb. I could go get lunch twice for $15.
Everything and more... except my songs
by sethy effey on 2019/01/02 20:24
Yousician will definitely help learning the guitar. Weather its chords riffs or just a standard D# you will progress prominently. However, due to what I could only guess is an inclusive ratio of programmers to musicians, yousician has a very bland palate of available music. I never could find a song I really wanted to learn to play, even though my progression with yousician has taught me enough to play a few of my favorites by myself, as well as come up with a few of my own riffs and tabs, I had to learn quite a lot before I was able to play with out staring at chords or using an app to chart my songs, although no one said the guitar is easy to learn. All in all this apps is one of the best mobile tutors I have found to date and would have received the 5th star if a better selection of music had been available to learn with
Love this.
by Rag3B00n on 2017/12/28 14:09
I love learning from this app! I have always wanted to learn piano since being taught a few little catchy tunes from a childhood friends mom. With Yousician I can truly learn at my own pace and in my own space. I love how you get pats on the back even little awards online it really keeps the spirits up. I must admit the puzzles can sometimes be frustrating even make you furious at times with frustration. I saw the pitch puzzles and thought oh this is hard and would get upset and think this is stupid it isn’t even really teaching me to play. I tell you though sure enough I was totally wrong I surprised myself being able to tell pitches even the slightest differences in pitch and because of that it has really helped me. Not to drag this on but don’t give up every little obstacle that is presented to you is there to make you better. You can even surprise yourself!
Fun way to learn guitar.
by cromcty on 2019/07/05 00:13
I tried out the app for about a month and ended up almost using it daily so I went ahead and upgraded to the annual premium plus subscription. I think it’s a pretty good deal since it works out to around $15/month and they are constantly adding more songs to their library. One thing I wish they would allow you to do is view a song in some type of sheet music format. You can pause a song in practice mode and scroll through a song to see the tabs or notes but you can only go about 1-2 bars at a time. What I’m finding is that I can play a song as long as I am using the app but I can’t really do it if I just pick up the guitar and try to play from memory. In part, I think it’s because I can’t really see how many bars a pattern is repeated and how the the different parts of a song are arranged relative to one another.
If you need something to get you started on playing string instruments, this app may not be for you.
by Myself11223344556677889900 on 2018/06/09 00:01
From a personal experience in learning different instruments, it is always a better option to have an actual person help you. This app is okay if you need to learn the very basics but it’s not gonna help you get good with an instrument. It is far better to go to someone who could actually teach you like a music tutor, a friend, or someone local that knows how to play a string instrument like at a church or a band teacher. Someone who can teach you is far better than an app that doesn’t really help you much. I have had a lot of trouble with this app when trying to learn how to play bass. Sometimes when I play notes it tells me to play it says that I missed it when I clearly played a note. If you have no one that can teach you how to play a stringed instrument (which shouldn’t be hard) then use this app. But don’t think you will start playing like jimmy Hendrix in a few months.
No more regrets for never learning piano
by T$Valhalla on 2019/03/28 01:29
I have used Yousician every day for almost a year. I have found their very simple reward system and leveling up to be great motivators to practice and hone skills. I'm really impressed with my ability so far to casually play piano along with popular songs on the radio. I'm sure you could start from scratch with this app, but I do believe my years of previous music lessons (not piano) helped me speed through lower levels quicker which greatly reduced any frustration I might have experienced. My only musical issue is that I believe the method of following along and playing to a song cheats the actual learned ability to read rhythm. I need outside practice for learning to better read rhythm, but that's a small issue because lots of practice is necessary regardless. Other than that, this app is terrific and well worth its price!
Worth it!
by jrob49 on 2018/12/17 02:43
If you’re looking to learn and self teaching just isn’t working for you then this app is a great tool. I’m using it for guitar and if I’m being honest this isn’t my first time trying yousician. I think the problem initially was that my fingers couldn’t keep up with my desire to practice. They would hurt too much and so I wasn’t pressing down on the strings hard enough. This lead to me not playing to chords or strings correctly and I blamed the app undeservingly. It not only explains the information very clearly but also is extremely helpful with getting you to play daily and more often. Its a great tool to get you the basics, practice, accuracy, and dexterity you need to aid in your own self teaching. After just two days of using the app i noticed my play and chord transition was much better on the songs I was self teaching myself. Check it out!
Service was not available.

I enjoyed Yousician a lot before I tried upgrading my plan to Premium +. Customer service was responsive but not helpful at all. I still can’t believe they can’t upgrade my plan on their end with proof of purchase. Here is detail for those wonder. I purchased the plan, but I couldn’t access the contents from both desktop and iOS devices. I checked my subscription plan to reassure and my bank account to see if the purchase went through. I found no problem there. So I began emailing Yousician support with screenshots of my end, yet the response was same: we didn’t receive information from iTunes, we can’t upgrade your plan, and please contact Apple support although I contacted Apple support with that matter. Now they request me to do refund through Apple support. What I can’t understand is, if they can’t help upgrading their service, and I have to go through Apple Support on everything for their plan, they shouldn’t call themselves support center. I needed support on something on their service, they couldn’t do it and I cannot use their service.
Great app for anyone learning a new instrument
by mynamesmemo on 2019/03/31 04:01
Ive learned many different instruments on my own, drums, piano, and quite a few brass instruments and I know the hardest hurdle is the beginning. Recently decided to pick up my first stringed instrument the ukelele and I was nervous going into the app, saw they offered a free 14 day trial so I gave it a shot. The lessons are thorough and you constantly revisit things youve done which is great to build up that muscle memory. They have video lessons explaining each section you're going to cover. Honestly wish I had the money to pay for the year for premium plus but life has it’s own way of forcing priorities with cost. Once I’m able to I’m planning on buying it. Just wish they had cheaper options that teach only one instrument but that’s literally my only complaint. I never leave reviews on apps so you know I mean it.
Good, but ...
by AndreasEdlef_DK on 2017/12/27 15:50
Although the app isn’t perfect and it can be a real pain sometimes, it has definitely helped me become a better ukulele player. With the latest update I am completely unable to play any songs (even the ones I’ve unlocked!!!) after my free lesson time is up. This has never been a problem before, but now I’m forced to upgrade to premium to be able to use the app at all once my 10-15 minutes a day are used up. That’s a real pain, and extremely discouraging, and doesn’t exactly make me consider opting in for premium. In fact it’s pushing me more towards deleting the app! I don’t want this to discourage others though. There’s huge potential here and I think premium will be more than worth investing in someday, but not quite yet. I wasn’t planning on leaving a review but my frustration with the app is what got me to this point. Hopefully this “feature” will be revoked in the next update because I’ve had this app for a year or two and it hasn’t happened prior to the most recent update.
Inspiration!

So, it all started when my friend was in guitar class and I thought me and her could play together in the same class, so I got accepted and right after my mom bought me an acoustic guitar and then the days had shifted to Thursday which both my parents were working so I couldn’t go....I didn’t know how to play or tune it (it sounded so terrible) so my guitar was sitting in my closet for 2 and a half YEARS! And I always thought to learn guitar I’d have to pay money and get a class but then I was staring at my guitar and I thought could there be a tuning app?? And that’s when I found GuitarTuna I tuned it sounded soOo much better! Then I thought again.. could there be a guitar teaching app then I found YOUSICIAN! For a year now, not very persistent but level 2 and learned chords (G,C,Am,E,Em,D, about to learn A) my life is so much brighter! (12 years old) Thanks so much for reading this!
Wow. Yousician makes learning fun!
by dave9921 on 2017/11/19 23:43
I'm learning how to play bass guitar and this has been the best tool I've found by far. I tried one-on-one lessons for a while but was having way more fun and making way more progress with Yousician. I signed up for the premium service for 12 months (which was less than a month worth of lessons) and I play it almost every day. There are little snags, of course but they are never more than an inconvenience that is almost always resolved by rebooting the iPad. Otherwise it is flawless and I truly look forward to advancing to the next song, the next skill, and the next level. Special thanks to the crew at Yousician for constantly adding fun and challenging new songs. Thanks also to the other Yousician users who add great popular songs to the available tracks. Please keep 'me coming!
Try before you buy?
by Nessa1380 on 2019/06/12 01:27
I downloaded this because the most recent reviews suggested you could use it for a couple minutes each day for free. Reading the reviews about how impossible it was to cancel a subscription (and that all subscriptions were for a full year) I was not and am not willing to risk the free trial (even if I’m sure Apple has my back) - but even a few minutes a day would be enough to tell me if it was worth it. Ukelele underground is great, but this had the added benefit of being able to brush up on my piano as well down the line. Well, I played through the first lesson - and now nothing. It’s been three days, but no new guided lessons. Can’t go further on the ‘learn’ option. Can’t even go back to other stuff. Everything leads me to them asking me to sign up for premium. I get it. You need to make money. I’m willing to give you mine. But only if you show me it worth it. And without holding my bank account hostage in the process. Too bad. People I know who previously had it said it was a good deal. The underground it is. :/
Total Garbage
by WorkBoat7 on 2019/07/28 08:10
This app is ABSOLUTELY NOT FOR BEGINNERS. It’s a 110% waste of you money. It a great concept but, it doesn’t work. When your playing it doesn’t pick up the notes consistently or evenly enough. Sometimes it will register a note in a song and other times it will not. Sometimes it will tell you, you are early or late playing a note. Sometimes you play the same note right on Time an it will register it as being wrong. So if your a beginner on an intermediate player it hard to get good feedback on what’s really going on in terms of if you doing things right or wrong. Instead of adding more songs what they need to do fix the basics. Creating software that is dead on accurate in terms of registering every note correctly. I paid for the basic subscription and I totally regret it. I will definitely cancel it before it renews again. If they ever bother to fix this issue, then it will be just what they claim it to be the “the best way to learn guitar”. As it stands no this app is TOTAL GARBAGE. If you are a beginner it will only hold you back long term.
I wish there was better feedback
by Luna3000 on 2018/07/23 03:55
I have the subscription, and I quite like the app, but I’m finding the feedback system frustrating. When you get a note and it turns green, it gives you a tiny little word to tell you “late”, “early”, “great” or “perfect!” Which I can only read on the base clef because they appear on the blue background and not the white, and only if I lean WAY in. I would like that feedback to be someplace I can always read it. Maybe even in a larger font. More frustrating (I have rage quit a few times because of this) when you miss a note there is no feedback at all. It’s just red. I can’t tell if it’s because it didn’t hear the right note, or if I was too late or too early. If nothing else I would like that to be changed. Otherwise this app is worth 5 stars. I love the lessons and the different tracks you can take. Even the goofy songs to help you remember stuff like sharps go up and flats go down.
Great App But...
by Erick Daniel Torres on 2018/07/18 03:27
This app is great for any experienced or new players of guitar or any of the selected instruments, i have this app now for a couple months now and I’ve been really learning a lot with the guitar. There was one thing I really like the app after an update where the menu has changed everything as it looks now and there was a variety of songs created by other players using Yousician which I loved about it, but then another update came in and started to remove people’s songs from the “Home” section and Yousician started to add their own songs which I didn’t mind and then a recent update came in and now all the sections have songs from Yousician there’s no songs from other people. If Yousician reading this, then would you mind if you can add a variety of songs by different creators than just Yousician itself from the “Home” section. Thanks.

Pretty good
Good App
by Soccer2239 on 2019/10/17 22:46
I like this app, it is really helpful and effective But, there should be an option (maybe in the tuning section) to say if you have a missing string.

Horrible
by yellowmonkeyfireball on 2019/10/12 20:23

by fabrizioooooahbdj on 2019/10/11 22:59
This service is a complete rip-off.

I know that nobody reads reviews, but if you are, this app is great for a secondary instrument. I mainly play drums but this app is helping me learn bass on the side. I don’t suggest the paid subscription as it isn’t really necessary. Thanks for reading!

I became very impatient and as I said frustrated along the way.

by Tiger3863 on 2019/09/29 16:01

What a bargain
by JonasBboySlim on 2019/09/27 19:47

by Nice game for learning on 2019/09/25 03:14
I love this app, but I wish that after you pause the song, there would be a countdown timer so that you could get ready. For me, when I start the song after a pause, I always get the thing after the pause wrong. This would be really helpful to me.
It’s just another a money sucking app
by Mikhailov, Boris on 2019/09/24 22:33

Its ok
by Lilderpgod on 2019/09/24 01:03

Impossible to remove without being charged!!!
by ek765 on 2019/09/22 20:11
I tried the one week free trial, the app was ok but not worth the cost in my opinion so I have been trying to cancel and it is almost impossible. You can't remove it from your iTunes account, and you can't cancel it from within the app. You can delete all your information and data but it clearly says that deleting your data does not prevent recurring charges! How on Earth do I end this thing? I'm trapped!

Makes learning fun and easy.

Thanks.
