Acoustic guitar is kind of wonky
by Hater hater hater 71626272 on 2020/09/17 12:53
Great app, having a great time with it and learning a lot. My only real negative feedback is that the note detection with an acoustic guitar can be a little off sometimes. It sometimes registers notes that you didn’t play, but even worse is when it doesn’t hear notes that you _did_ play. It does this seemingly at random, and it makes it really obnoxious when you’re trying to perfect a song. It also frequently tells me to “plug in if you’re using an electric guitar”. I’m playing in a quiet room directly next to my iPad’s microphone so it’s not like I’m far away or playing quietly. The way it senses chords can be obnoxious also. I sometimes screw up a C and get some sour or dead notes in there, but it will register them as perfectly played. However, it _loves_ to tell me I have dead notes on Am even if I don’t. Again, when you’re playing the same some for the 4th or 5th time, trying to perfect it, and you _do_ play it perfectly and it _still_ says you missed, it’s enough to make you want to smash your guitar sometimes.
Good Stuff
by PissOffBezos on 2020/09/17 02:48
Been using this for about three weeks after a long time without playing. I’m working at my own pace and digging my desire to play more. This is due in part to the practice scoring and the time playing status...good stuff. I do have a wish list that could take this app to five stars for me... 1) practice restart only gives you, like, four beats before the song begins again. I can’t get back in position that fast and it’s a bit frustrating. 2) a preview option in practice mode so I can hear and see the song before I start to practice it. 3) an option in practice mode where I can begin and end at a particular measure for a length of measures and loop until I get it right. 4) option to mute vocals when I decrease tempo cause it sounds painfully horrible. 5) More Songs! Overall I like the app and think the price is worth it. I used to pay $45.00 a lesson every week...this is a bargain in comparison. Keep up the good work!

Ilike the Yousician app but I want to learn two things at once is that possible
Maybe it’s me
by Okthanksb on 2020/09/16 14:25
I think the app is creative and fun. My only complaint is that when I play frets, unless I play the string super soft then I won’t register. I’ve tried head phones and messing with the buffer settings. But it still isn’t fixing the issue. This is what’s stopping me from purchasing the app.
This game needs better work

I was using this app and I was doing the tutorial and they couldn’t tell from my high note and my 2nd note I was confused and I have to pay for lessons like I don’t want a app that you have to pay for lessons ugh 🙁
Dumb but okay

This app is so fun I’m learning how to sing and play guitar!
Word of Caution
by methodman615 on 2020/09/15 17:56
I’ve used this app to learn guitar. While it does teach you fundamentals, it takes a decisive effort on your part to avoid coming away from this playing like a robot. Additionally, I’ve noticed a lot of inconsistency in note recognition (i.e. it will recognize a g chord once and not immediately after). Eventually I just had to start ignoring the note recognition and using the app as an overblown metronome. Recording my own playing helped a lot too. In all, it’s sort of a hack for learning the guitar, but there’s a lot to be desired in terms of learning rhythm and just in app mechanics
yousician
by Grey Styles on 2020/09/14 20:52
Yousician has a limited time for people who don’t pay for more lessons and their lessons aren’t proper i was trying to play a fret and i was doing it the exact way it taught me but it wasn’t working come to realize that when i played four lines above the thinnest one as instructed then it counted it right. this is teaching complete rubbish you won’t learn anything from yousician i’m sorry but it’s a .5 stars in my book. Have a great day ❤️😡

Incredible app as it provides continual feedback on practice. I’ve struggled to get momentum on my guitar practice until now.
The app is okay but definitely not worth what they want for it

Perfectly tuned guitar but I waste time missing notes.
by Onimic on 2020/09/12 23:17
I have played guitar for a while but put it down. Figured this app would help but it doesn’t pick up notes especially on the repetitive chords and nothing changes but the app thinks I miss it. Plus the ads and the cost is way too high for an app that hardly works. Just say no.
This app is really good
by ghfcfjgcjhfc on 2020/09/12 17:39
this app is really good but I wish there was more learning time on it and I also wish that they and more song that aren’t premium plus but over all this is a great app I really I just said to people who want to learn how to sing play the guitar piano ukulele in a few more
Incorrect tuning and made me break a string
by Ashin B on 2020/09/10 19:49
It’s not right. I’m still in the tuning process and it made me pop a string. It kept telling me it was to high or to low or the wrong string. I’m not a beginner at tuning. The app was completely off and messed up the guitar. I had just bought the guitar too and now I have to fix a string

4 1/2 stars
by Happy Uke person on 2020/09/10 18:19
I really love Yousician! I already have learned so much, but there is one thing that was a bit disappointing. When I was playing my instrument which is the Ukulele, the mic would tend to glitch out or something along those lines and then it would tell me I missed a cord. You do need to pay a expensive price for the premium version and you still can play without the premium version whoever you can only play for a limited amount of time and not learn everything you could with premium. Other then those two downsides I really enjoy Yousician, and now I am way better at the Uke!
It’s ok not 5 stars
by MoiMoi Does on 2020/09/10 17:30

I’m sorry, but I cannot stress how much I hate this app. It doesn’t even let me get past the fret stage. I’m doing everything it says. I tuned it exactly how I was supposed to, I’m plucking the right strings, and nothing. Not even anything to help with what I might be doing wrong. Fix it P.S. the app tuned it to sound absolutely terrible. Thanks a lot
Premium
by hjsbusbysibsyisbysngsibsuisn on 2020/09/09 19:40
I don’t like that you have to get premium to play, you’re paying to play, and the app said that I wasn’t playing the right note even though I tuned the guitar using the tuner in the app! The songs are okay for the premium, a time limit to play!? What BS! And I played all the right notes but it gave me 1 star
Best app ever!
by _Mr_Dog on 2020/09/09 13:26
Sum times the music goes a bit to fast but if that is so you can go to practice mode and slow it down to your pace.
I am ABSOLUTELY in love with this app

Before I get started I want to thank Yousician for guiding me through every step of my guitar journey (thanks so much for making this app - I’m obsessed!!) when I bought this app I thought it was gonna be a total rip-off, but I was amazed!!! Yousician actually knows what it means to teach guitar to beginners. I have been searching for an app like this for a long time and all of them horrid! They don’t pick up your sound and stuff like that - but with Yousician I haven’t had any glitches AT ALL. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️and it’s DEFINITELY worth the big bucks u have to pay every month. Trust me.
Bad, just plain bad.

I really love this app. Easy to follow and learn at your own pace. Getting reward and achievement is awesome and fun. Like playing video game but learning at the same time. My only complain is wish they have more song. Even if you have to purchase new song. I would find that add more to the app itself and many wouldn’t mine spending the extra money for song they like.

This app is AMAZING it help me learn a lot about guitar
Does not compare in any way to a teacher
by cigarette on 2020/09/07 17:30
It’s fair to say that the yousician audio technology is not quite ready for prime time. It’s a toy more than a music teacher and its failings and shortcomings are many: 1. It frequently recognizes terrible playing as acceptable, and correct playing as wrong. For example, in something as simple as strumming open strings, it will say there was a “dead note.” Or it will accept a screwed up F chord. I assume this is either due to poor AI programming re. correct notes, or an inability to filter out room reverberations and ambient noise. I’ve even found it to regiser a note as “correct” when I am not playing anything, or to register a note incorrect when playing the same note eight times in a row. The most notable examples you can try for yourself are in the ukulele and bass. It will accept a C for a C7 and vice versa. Or in the triplets section of bass, simply mashing away at the same notes with no perceptible rhythm can get you a perfect score, as long as you’re playing the right note. Or in guitar and ukulele, find a section where it has you playing chords at both half notes and quarter notes, and play all at quarter notes. That you played the chord twice when you should have only played it once will still be registered as “correct.” 2. Many of the lessons it tries to teach, it cannot recognize whether you’re actually doing them. It can’t actually tell the difference between strumming upward or downward. It can’t tell a hammer-on or a pull-of apart from simply playing two notes. It can’t tell if you’re using the different bass plucking techniques the instructor shows you. 3. It glitches frequently. Any time a long song is playing, at one point, the playback will shudder. On fast songs, this almost invariable leads to losing track of what to play. This is on a brand new iPad pro. Additionally, it will sometimes tell me to plug into an amp if I’m using an electric guitar. Sometimes I’m playing on an acoustic, so I play louder. Sometimes I’m playing on an electric, so I turn the amp up. Either way, it continues to give me that warning. So I turn it down, and the warning goes away. But then comes back later. The “ideal” volume is entirely unpredictable. Similarly, the responsiveness has recently become SIGNIFICANTLY worse. Hitting a button will do nothing, so you hit it again and again, and eventually it processes all those button pushes simultaneously. And, of course, it will never actually be able to tell you what you’re doing wrong, besides “you missed these notes.” It can’t tell you whether you’re playing the chord poorly or playing the wrong chord or it just sounds bad, what you might have forgotten from earlier, or what you can do to make it easier. It’s like if you combined YouTube music teachers and Rock Band. A cute toy, but not a serious way to learn an instrument.
No Good
by ernier0369 on 2020/09/07 16:45
This app is terrible I try to play ukulele and guitar and it doesn’t give me credit for when I play the correct note. Also the ball lands on the wrong notes when I play a C note it said to play an A even though the lesson was on C!

by ikhvsajkjea on 2020/09/05 18:36
I got a ukulele for Christmas but I didn’t use it until I got this app! This is kinda like simply guitar but I can just get a few lessons and then I can stop so I get on the right foot. But the problem here is when I come into this app the key C is always not right so I always have to fix it and the first time I got it note C/key C was like way too high so I fixed then it glitched all the way till it was like 40 or something but I guessed it’s fixed (just a little bit). But I can play 3 different things 1.ukulele 2.piano and 3.singing and I always wanted a guitar so I don’t have to get another app this app is “purrfect” for me! 😸😁😋🤩

by miss dannon on 2020/09/04 01:54
I am a beginner and I like the three knowledge paths. I am interested in working on all of them simultaneously. I am getting really stuck on the chord trainers though. The app insists I have a dead note. It is always the G and while I do have a fat ring finger, I can see the string moving. I will occasionally get a pass but do nothing different and have a dead note. I really don’t care if one string is a lil dead anyway... I still don’t want to play E major 65 times in a row. It would be nice to be able to just move on, or at least play the notes faster, but I feel like I am stuck for a stupid reason.

Please please add a customized playlist!!!!!!!
by 1111ely1111 on 2020/09/02 16:49
This app is fantastic im skilled in basics of guitar and playing the songs in cords section is where I spend most of my time start at 70% tempo on practice mode (which automatically repeats song) and increase tempo 5% as I get better before the end of the day I have a new song under my belt. I use a Bluetooth speaker and play along from my iPad. It’s like you are part of a band. But if I could create a playlist of songs I’m working on or have mastered would make for fun time with friends and still practice. Please add this feature!!!!!

Great for Very beginner but microphone glitch?
by NlGHTWlNG on 2020/09/01 21:42
It’s a wonderful app for a very beginner like me who started as 0. Step by step so called “levels” are helpful. I’m an hour in and I love it. Only one big thing is that the app doesn’t seem to pick up all the notes of chords I’m supposed to strum in order to advance to next level. Maybe it’s me, maybe it’s the ipad mic, or could be the app. I’ll give it a try on the next practice.
Great app, but I wish there were more free options
by 🏳️‍🌈rainbow🏳️‍🌈 on 2020/09/01 02:56
I love this app. I am using it to help improve my singing, and I love how detailed the lessons are. But my one complaint is that it seems that you have to pay to use most of the features. Only a few of the songs are free, and the ones that are, I’m not interested in singing. Also, you only get a certain amount of practice time on the app. I tried to start a new lesson and it came up with a message that says that I need to get premium to be able to use the app for the rest of the day. I will still continue to use the app for quick practice sessions each day, but I wish you could get more for free.

Yousician is a great app and I would recommend it to anyone who is a beginner or even advanced! I have the premium and it is great!!! I have an electric gutair and I started playing during quartine with this app and I enjoy it very much!! It is especially good for all ages! I would recommend for tweens and teens if you need an gutair app! That’s why I chose this because it isn’t to hard for my age but is still challenging! The only reason I gave this four stars is because I am disappointed that it doesn’t work on my kindle fire or my chromebook. I wanted to use it on a bigger screen than iPhone but it isn’t available on either of those devices. Thanks for reading!!!
I don’t recommend it
by ??🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 on 2020/08/29 09:39
When i got this app it seemed to be a good idea. But when i actually got into it i began to have second thoughts. The app helps you but not at your own pace.Even if you practice instead doing the real thing it goes too fast.Plus everything on the app costs to much than i can afford and im stuck doing the yousician songs instead which are fine but extra lessons and other things you might want to with the app costs too much for me.I don’t mind paying for some things but i can’t pay for the whole thing.Another problem is when you play a song and your playing the right notes it still stops you and tells you to do it again and there you are stuck repeatedly doing the same note over and over again. Its annoying and its really hard to keep it up when it constantly stops you.Anyway I would try a diff app before this one.
Are you playing an electric guitar
by Mlm79 on 2020/08/29 06:01
I play a bass and during the first half of every song it keeps asking if I am playing an electric guitar then plug it in. Stop asking! I put down bass so please stop asking.
Glorified Guitar Hero
by Shannyfanny46 on 2020/08/29 00:41
(Bass) The app works well, but I don’t feel like I’m actually learning anything other than sight reading tabs. The video lessons in between songs are fast and cheap and I can’t actually tell if I’m applying what the guy said in the video with the song. The difficulty also seems to move faster than I’m ready for, and the app doesn’t explain any economy of movement with fretting, I’m constantly looking back and forth between the screen and the fretboard trying to keep up. I’d use this more as a practice game in tandem with real lessons elsewhere. For now I’ll go back to learning by book.
More songs

by katie16:33 on 2020/08/25 20:38
I love the ukulele and I thought this app would help me play better, but without the premium version you really can’t do much. The lessons are really slow and too easy and you can only do a few minutes of lesson. I never bought premium, but i would think that the premium version is a lot better.
This app is great!
by crookynev on 2020/08/25 16:16

Messes up way to much!
by AnoyomousSofa on 2020/08/24 17:14
This is a great app, but when playing chords, it says dead note about 80% of the time. Even when I’ve tuned my guitar 4 different times and looked at my guitar strings it still says dead note. The very last thing is that I’ve played a dead note on purpose and it said that I played the note correctly
Yet again another pay wall
by ISTCrimson on 2020/08/24 15:43
Music should be shared with others not have all the good songs to learn, behind a pay wall stopping you from playing around 60% of the songs on the app. This is what’s wrong with these apps making you have to pay to learn songs that should be shared throughout the community, and learned throughout further generations without a pay wall and with easy access. 😔
Ur app doesn’t pick up noise
by UnicornTrainer12 on 2020/08/24 14:43
Great setup for the app but it won’t pickup E fret... I tuned it on two different apps and my dad checked it, and it still didn’t respond to it
Engindad

Nice. Too many interruptions with pay version
My review may be an error
by Olivianid on 2020/08/23 20:11
It was good to start off with it told me to tune it It said all the strings are tuned correctly I played for 5 minutes and it went good but I went to play a song and it said I was playing one of the chords wrong so I went to the tuning section and it said It needed to be tuned up It works for now but another thing is that the frets lesson was too hard it told be stuff that they didn’t teach me at all and it let me get the chords wrong without telling me to try to play the string again Yes it does let me start over but I feel like it could have been more easier on me since it was my 2nd lesson...
Pay to play
by nibkillfest11 on 2020/08/23 19:22
This app would be awesome if they didn’t charge 30 bucks a month I’d rather deal with ads then that
The reason I cancelled
by UnaZarzaEnLlamas on 2020/08/23 17:28
I believe this app has good intention for beginners. I will tell you that videos and tutorials have good structure and take you through the right path of consistency to learn to play an instrument accurately. To learn to play an instrument is key to express yourself day in and day out through music. So, about structure, and since this a good tool to practice, I give you, guys, a thumbs-up. However... the reason I have rated this app 4-star is because it truly doesn’t make me feel like I progress. The difficulty level is questionable. There are times the app doesn’t recognize the notes I’m playing, and some songs seem to get a bit difficult to play for mere beginners, which makes me feel frustrated and stuck on the same songs for days of practice (even if you were to play that song for an intensive 30 min lesson). So no, I don’t think this app is wack, or a waste of money, don’t get me wrong. No hard feelings. But I don’t think it’s intended for beginners. I look forward to solidify my knowledge and some basics first before coming back. Later on, I would definitely give you guys a second try.
Almost perfect
by ThEbEe01 on 2020/08/23 14:08
This is probably the best music learning app out there, and I like the fact that you don’t *have* to pay to use it. I do wish it would stop bugging me about getting the subscription, but I understand that they need to get money somehow and I respect that. My one big complaint is that you can’t do multiple instruments at once. I’m working on the guitar currently, but I want to sing too!! Thank you to the creators of this app, very useful!

This is a problem to me
by aviatorrn on 2020/08/21 15:56

Great except for “dead notes
by jessicac_123 on 2020/08/21 15:15
This app and the piano version have been great for improving my understanding of music! However, and I can see that other reviewers agree, the chord songs are nearly impossible to finish because the app is way too sensitive in detecting “dead notes” when there either are none or they’re barely audible to the human ear. There should be an option to turn dead note detection off! Half the point is to learn the shapes of chords; nailing them takes a while, especially to fingers that aren’t used to acoustic guitar strings. It’s also frustrating that getting too many notes wrong ends a song entirely, and with the “dead notes” found when there are none, this happens way too frequently. This isn’t guitar hero! If I do a song poorly but finish it through, I’ll go back to improve it anyway. I should be able to finish a song I’m not doing well on.
Yousician is great!!
by IBPgirl09 on 2020/08/21 15:15
I love yousician! It has helped me become a better musician and teaches me in fun ways. There are a few things that I don’t like though. For instance, because I have a free account, every two minutes there is a add for premium and I can’t skip it! It has told me enough times that I should get premium. Also, a lot of times I have to play the same note over and over, even though I know that it is right. Thank you for reading this and please fix these problems!
Great app!!!
by the.gabs on 2020/08/21 14:54
This app is so helpful! It makes learning the guitar really fun and its definitely challenging. I don't have the premium version so everything I do on the app is free, and I honestly think I'm learning a lot. This app is definitely a helpful resource you should utilize if you want to learn an instrument.
An effective way to learn at home
by seamdiva on 2020/08/21 13:42
This app is fabulous. I’ve played chords for years, but could never pick or embellish and Yousician has made learning music and practicing guitar a blast. I look forward to each session. I love learning at my own pace and the game aspect keeps things light. I highly recommend this app! Xoxo
I love it, but
by guitarsoloist on 2020/08/19 14:52
I love the app but after the first day of practicing the little ball thing didn't stop and wait for me to get the note right. I recently got a guitar and saw this app and decided to try it and i really liked how the ball thing stopped and waited for me to get the note right. But after the first day it didn't do it anymore. I dont know if its just me or with other people. I do really like this app and would recommend it to anyone playing guitar.
Great App BUT...
by The tornado chaser on 2020/08/18 23:50
This app has a great teaching method and all but, only a few minutes a day? And if you want to practice more you have to pay a lot of money for more songs and unlimited practice time. I got the guitar for Christmas and never even looked at it until I discovered this app and I’ve gotten very far but I know I could get farther with at least 30 minutes to practice instead of almost 20.
Great App, way too many ads
by Jase Elizondo on 2020/08/18 22:06
dont get me wrong its the beat app for learning but the adds before each lesson take away time it says 10 mins for daily goal, then why u take away 5 minutes to self promote. It talk abt premium too much but it really needs to stop all the ads. The best learning app.
Good but...
by Reat. on 2020/08/18 20:59
Very good and smart but doesn’t count the notes half the time. Says there are dead notes when the really weren’t (I checked 1 by 1)

a MUST! 💖 :D
by zoialexa on 2020/08/17 20:49
By far the Best app out there! I got this app because my ukulele was sitting in the conner of my room collecting dust and I had been wanting to learn for the longest time but I couldn’t sign up for lessons because in person classes were very expensive (at least in my area) and Covid-19. So I started looking for apps! Some made you pay money (even though the lessons sucked -_-) And some weren’t even usable! UNTILL :0 I found this app called Yousician! Free to use, YOU COULD DECIDE if you wanted to pay, (paying gives you unlimited lesson time and more songs) And the lessons were very helpful! They truly do feel professional! And well a couple months later, IM PLAYING LIKE A PRO! love it! Also it’s not only for ukulele you can learn other Instruments too! And singing lessons! Beautiful app! A MUST HAVE! ❤️💕
Ok well 😐
by Savanna awsome on 2020/08/17 15:10
This is a good app but the reason I deleted this app was because i realized that you guys just want the money and not teach people music 😕. Music is an experience that EVERYONE should get to have with money Or without, rich or poor, i like this app but its so expensive plus all of the songs + lesson time +a LOT of other important stuff are premium!
THE BEST APP I EVER HAD
by Burger pattie on 2020/08/16 13:08
When I first got this (last week). I thought it was gonna be like other guitar learning apps boring and dumb. Well it wasn’t. They didn’t even high advertise this like simply guitar. I LOVE THIS APP ITS EVEN BETTER THAN FORNITE!!!! So I rated this five stars for that. 🤩🥳🤗🤫
Too pricy and hard to cancel subscription
by unsatisfied Guitarist on 2020/08/16 08:16
I can’t find where to cancel my subscription easily. I feel as if I’m being suckered for my money with this. Even after googling how to unsubscribe, to open the Yousician website and click on my profile, there’s nothing that says unsubscribe. I’m about to cancel my card just to prevent being billed for something I no longer want.
I absolutely love this app!
by 8Pat7 on 2018/03/21 06:26
I have the subscription for the guitar. When I first downloaded the app it had some glitches but since the latest update I don’t have any complaints and even when it glitched (the sound wouldn’t play at times usually if the lesson was stopped due to other activity on my phone) if I exited the app and came back it was fine. I only have praise for Yousician! This app has sooo many different helpful components. From video and lessons to songs and challenges (against other users) to charts and emails that encourage you and track your progress. All the video lessons are extremely easy to comprehend and the layout makes it extremely easy to navigate. It is super addictive!!! There are several times Ive been totally sucked in spending hours glued to the app trying to perfect a lesson to rack up gold stars. I promise you the money is beyond worth it! You cannot beat the convenience of going at your pace practicing at any time for as long as you like! There are 3 sections (knowledge, rhythm, and lead). I have completed knowledge and I’m on the 3rd level of rhythm. I love the progressive levels. Rhythm and lead each have 10 levels and knowledge has 5. The gradual build from one lesson to another is pretty much flawless. I’m definitely going to write a review when I’m finished with all 3 sections. This app is my blessing!
So so enjoyable and helpful
by windfieldz on 2019/02/18 18:15
I can’t recommend Yousician enough. I remember when Rock Band came out I kept saying I wish someone would make something like this where you actually learn and...here it is! I’ve been playing about a year and first, it’s SO fun. Secondly, I am learning so quickly. I do ten minutes a day but usually end up puttering another 10. The people who make this app have put so much thought, care and love into the layout and lessons. I really can’t recommend enough. I have premium bc I thought I’d like to play the famous songs but actually I find I enjoy the ones yousician has a lot more - they are usually not more than two minutes or so and are very carefully composed and calibrated to help you work on really specific things and help you progress. Also a lot of them are some of my favorite tunes now - playing in the park! I still pay for premium thought bc this is a service worth paying for. You will find yourself looking forward to having a few empty moments in your day so you can mess around. Looking forward to what they keep coming up with and THANKS for making such a great app. I would like more instructional videos on exact finger placement and strumming - I think I tug a lot of my strings around and don’t know how to stop.
Beware of Trial
by Landjwil on 2020/03/28 16:01
I signed up for the free trial over Christmas break for my son who now has a guitar. The app was doing okay at first and he seemed to like it. Then it couldn’t hear him well enough and kept asking for an amp to be plugged in (or not giving him credit for the notes he was playing.) An amp we don’t have...so now it just doesn’t seem to pick up what he’s playing despite lots of attempts to make it work. On the last day of the trial, I canceled because this was frustrating him and he quit playing. I had signed up for the 3 month subscription (with the trial you had to commit to something) because it was a good deal if he was really committed. When I went to cancel, it wouldn’t let me because it wasn’t 24 hours before the end of the trial (so technically 6 days...not 7). I emailed Yousician and they told me it was out of their hands and I needed to contact Apple. Well Apple pretty much told me it was my fault that I didn’t read the initial email (which it is in there and I didn’t see it at the time...it is my fault I suppose) but definitely disappointing that there was no grace and I was just out $60. That’ll teach me not to do trials. They always get you one way or another. And I wouldn’t have minded the $60 if the app worked well enough to pick up the sound without extra equipment. Just an 11 year old kid with a busy schedule wanting to learn how to play the guitar. :(
I love this app😍
by my dream singing app on 2020/01/11 17:13
OK soi wanted to learn piano 🎹 money. But it’s different you don’t have to pay money I mean if you want to it’s $30 per month but who want to do that. Instead you can play along with any instrument do you have and it will give you free time to play and once the free times over you try tomorrow. This way you can learn so much, they even did you singing there’s one instrument you can’t plan that, drums. It will ask you for money now and then but you can just refuse. That’s why I give it a five star. Currently in this app I am learning singing and piano, it is so very helpful. It’s helpful when you’re just a nine-year-old and it’s vacation and you have nothing to do.(I am a nine year old) back in my home I took piano classes and didn’t exactly work out because I didn’t know what to do, and he tried so hard I mean I tried hard but I couldn’t understand anything to years later here in America I told him many apps piano apps and ask me for money so I had to delete them but Yousician is different I love it. I know it asks for money but you can just refuse. My mom doesn’t have a car so I can’t go to any classes with this app I can learn anything on the piano sitting at home. In Conclusion this is a great app.
3 1/2 Stars
by ShaunN55 on 2019/02/02 17:17
This app makes learning a game. That is fun and great. I love when you are learning cords it shows you exactly which string(s) are “dead”. I love the option to “perfect” a song. That makes it challenging and motivational. I like how quickly they responded when I had a question. There is a lot to love about this app. So why 3 1/2 stars? It’s great so far to use to learn the guitar. However, once I get to the point that I want to be, just basic chords and notes there isn’t any Christian music which I prefer to play. They do have a board to vote for songs and there are some Christian songs on that board that I voted for. Considering that the tops songs are up in the hundreds of votes and the Christian songs are in the tens and just by the time I spent looking at the message board one request gets filled a month or so. That doesn’t look good for Christian music options on Yousicion any time soon. Still this is a fun app, easy to use, super fun to play, addicting even! So the 3 1/2 stars is MY personal preference. To pay 179$ for a year without music I personally prefer to play is a tough call. I am on the fence about it when my free trial runs out for just that reason. I do think in the future they will probably pick up some popular Christian songs and then it will be way way easier to pay for.
Worth the money pays for itself in 3 lessons
by Metalmadman666 on 2018/02/06 01:40
I am a veteran musician (not a guitarist) I am a vocalist but I always had a guitar laying around, picked it up and learned a few chords but that’s it. Now in my 40’s I decided to pick up guitar a get serious. I know it’s late in life but thought it would be a great hobby away from my normal music and singing career. So I am now on week 2 of the premium version and I love it. I’ve had my guitar in my hands more in 2 weeks than the last 30yrs. I started at the very beginning to be sure not to miss a lesson, trick, or nuance, something I might have rushed or overlooked in the past. I am now at my level, comfort, challenges and knowledge where I left off years ago. I definitely have gotten better with all 3 levels “lead, knowledge and rhythm”. This app is fun and addicting. It keeps you motivated and interested in learning. Definitely worth the money it paid for itself 100 times over in the last 2 weeks compared to the cost of what a real teacher would’ve cost including the time, traveling, gas etc. I’ve tried a few guitar apps and this one is by far the most fun and a lot less frustrating than the others. Can’t wait to learn more. I’ll write another review in 3 months. 🤘💀🤘
Great program. Ripped me off for a full year sub
by positiverpr on 2019/11/01 20:01
The app is great. I signed up for a month. Cancelled this am before the end of the month because I didn’t want to forget(was possible gonna renew later but want gonna have much time next month). With more than a week left on my rx- I sign in and the app makes it appear that I can’t utilize the non-free material because I’ve cancelled but gives me the option to “renew”. I thought that this was very annoying but figured I’d renew then use the rest of my paid month and cancel before the end of the week. The renew option gave no hint that it would do anything other than continue what id already purchased and certainly made no suggestion that by hitting this button that I’d be upgrading to a full year subscription... some thing I’d never even considered. Very misleading. I would approach the makers personally if the site didn’t give you the dead end of “you need to approach iTunes” which then gives an immediate “you don’t qualify for a refund”. I’m not a troll.... not a complainer... and I’m not an idiot. I’ll pay and enjoy the program for a year... but this was a trap. Just posting to hopefully prevent someone else from falling into it.
I like it but there’s something you need to fix
by LuxsGalaxy on 2017/11/04 16:45
I really enjoy learning from Yousician. I’m learning to play the piano at the moment. I learned from my friends and I know a lot of notes and a few songs but I want to learn the basics and try and get really good. One thing I don’t really like though is the premium thing. Like I get that people have to make a profit so you do this premium program but not everyone has the time and money to learn this. I feel like Yousician got more attention if you’d let aspiring piano players (or any instrument) learn faster and for free. Shouldn’t everyone has access to the beauty of music? I have a friend who’s been learning piano for 7 years from her teacher but she has to pay about 100 or something per lesson. So i’d much rather learn from Yousician but I can’t learn as fast and as efficiently as I’d like to because of this silly program. Maybe if you made people pay money for something else in the app like idk maybe to unlock a song you need a certain amount of points and if you don’t have enough you can pay to unlock it. Something like that. I just think that if you made it free that you’d get a lot more attention :) but that’s my opinion. I just hope you agree with me, and thanks if you read this whole thing by the way
Great...but
by Taegan Mae on 2018/12/29 09:36
Yousician has been really helpful in my guitar journey. I have learned a lot about the different ways to play and how to play most effectively, and sometimes it will give you a song to play as part of your lesson. Now I’m not a master guitar player, but sometimes it will tell me that I played the wrong note, when I clearly played the right one. My microphone is clearly exposed to the sound of my guitar and my guitar is fully in tune. I will pluck a string, and it will say that I got it wrong, even though I plucked the right string in the right fret. Worst of all, some lessons require you to get 100% completion on a song in order to move on and complete a skill, so sometimes I will find myself playing a song over and over and over for more time than I would like to spend perfecting every note of the song. Also, things like this can be really frustrating, I would know, and if you play a song without wearing headphones, the microphone will pick up what your speakers are spitting out and tell you that you’re wrong for every note until you wear headphones. It tells you before hand to “wear headphones for best experience” you basically have to wear headphones in order to use the app. And if you don’t have headphones with you, then you’re in quite a pickle. The app is great, but can get very frustrating.
Makes learning fun!
by TARDISKATE on 2017/12/09 22:31
I got my first ukulele while on a cruise to Hawaii. They had fun classes onboard taught by a Hawaiian ambassador. He was such a neat fun guy and had me loving the ukulele. When I got home I wanted to learn more and found this app. This app is fun, easy to understand and has kept me loving my uke. I play daily at least 30 mins using this app. My dad uses it as well with his uke. It’s fun to see how we are progressing on our playing skills. I like how you can practice a song and slow down the tempo. I tend to start at 75% speed to kinda learn the song, cords or fretting. Then I move up in increments of 10% until I feel ready to preform the song in the actual lesson. One thing I’d suggest when using the app. Use earbuds. Sometimes if you have the app too loud it has issues hearing your instrument, if you are a soft player. Earbuds or the like, are perfect as you can clearly hear the lesson and your instrument. As for the price for premium... I think it’s very reasonable. Lessons taught in person would cost much more. Plus this app offers lessons for guitar, bass, ukulele and piano! A great bang for your buck, I’d say. Long story short, if you want to learn to play... I highly recommend this fun app.
Free version is a good learning tool
by Camdell on 2018/06/10 15:51
The free version is a good learning tool with plenty of versatility to try different instruments or styles. You do have to put up with an ad every few minutes and there’s a limit to the amount of time you can use in one day, but for beginning or casual players it’s sufficient. The paid version, however, feels like a scam. The monthly version for $20 limits you to one instrument for ad free, unlimited playing. I paid for piano for my daughter and then she got interested in the ukulele =money wasted. The annual version allows you to switch between instruments theoretically, but only if you are willing to cough up $120 up front. Worse: it’s super easy to sign up for a subscription and impossible to cancel. Signing up happens with a click of a button on the app. However, to cancel one has to sign in to iTunes and cancel the subscription. However, after attempting to do this multiple times, Yousician is still trying to charge my debit card every day. The only reason for the 3 stars is the free version. The paid version gets 1 or less! Update: customer service assured me that account had been cancelled; however, a new gift card entered in iTunes was immediately charged. It appears that we paid $20 for the ‘privilege’ of canceling the service. Funds are not refunded when you cancel. This is completely unethical business practice. Too bad because the app concept is good.
Good just a few problems
by Camilerz on 2019/07/16 18:40
This app in general is so good. There’s only a few little problems. When I play piano on this app, it tests me on notes and sometimes the microphone doesn’t work and I get really annoyed. And the other problem is the premium. I really want to get the premium but it’s 160 dollars per year (around there) and some people just can’t afford that. I know you’re trying to get money and all but I think for some people it’s too much and you should lower the price or have another choice for each week or month. If you don’t have premium, you can only practice 10 minutes each day (at least for piano).Other than those problems, it’s a really fun app. Update: okay it’s been a while and the microphone works better now but there’s one major MAJOR problem. It deleted all my progress! I’m restarting everything and I’m really annoyed. I didn’t sign out of my account or anything and it deleted my progress. I might be generous or not for giving you 3 stars. Update again: okay thank you so much for replying back to me it means a lot. I knew about the subscriptions monthly and yearly which I didn’t know you could cancel the monthly so thank you. And thank you for the new content. I will definitely change my rating.
Good intentions but bad app!
by vlogbuster on 2019/05/28 00:15
I know the guitar basics like frets picks how to hold it and that. Well the app assumes the basics include all the chords! Ok so I deleted it and chose that I knew nothing. While I was learning the basics this seemed like a very good app. I was about to write a great review about it. Around the first song I realized I was playing the write note but it said I was wrong. Sometimes I was but rarely. The times I was wrong I was around a fret off. Well according to the app I was four strings off. If you play guitar you know how diffract Hi E and low E sound so I don’t know how the app mixed those two up. So every time you finish a song it gives you a ad for the premium version of this game. It’s fine to advertise on your app but after every single thing you do is far past the breaking point! You also get only 10 minutes without premium! Imagine a guitar instructor comes to your house only for ten minutes a day. And like 24 hour day not just comes at 8 on day and 5 on the other. No it’s either 24 hours or more! Remember this is just constructive criticism. Please don’t get offended by this. Here is some advice to make the app better. First only focus on one instrument. You do a mediocre job on around 6 instruments. If you just teach one instrument then it’s mediocre X 6 which would make an amazing emphasis on amazing app so please follow my advice and again this is just constructive criticism so please don’t get offended😊
So good it’s upsetting
by f̤̮o̤̮n̤̮t̤̮ɩơ۷ɛཞ on 2020/03/18 17:50
Alright. This app is very good. It really does help you learn and become a better musician. So why did I rate this app 4 stars? I rated it a four because it’s only good for awhile. The first couple lessons are amazing bc you learn quickly and you through them quickly letting you get more lessons in your ten minute lesson times. (If you don’t have premium.) They kinda scam you a little bit. •They make the lessons easier at first •then they make them harder •then you can’t get through as many in the ten minute period •then you feel like you have to get sucked into the premium plan. But you don’t want too bc it costs a lot. It’s a really frustrating endless cycle. Regular guitar lessons can be stressful and cost more than what the premium plan would cost you. But the premium plan still adds up. But then you do another lesson and it seems like they’re just trying to challenge you because then you take a “skill test”. So what I’m saying is after awhile when the lessons get hard enough, they might not give you enough time to get through one lesson, and it makes you want to get premium. Which I understand it’s a marketing thing thats obviously working. So give your marketing person a raise, and lower your premium costs. Because this app is really good.
Blessed With This App
by Lalaallaly on 2018/01/17 03:31
We all know lessons can be expensive in reality. Ranging from as little as $20 to $60 PER lesson, and that’s just for beginners. So how does a blossoming musician learn without being robbed of their money and having to GO TO the lesson, and only able to practice what the trainers assign or what you can find online. To me, that doesn’t sound very convenient. The answer is simple- YOUSICIAN! They walk you through everything, giving you personalized lessons and feedback. There’s such a wide variety of songs, you can almost always find what you’re looking for! I play the guitar, and for as little as $9.99 a month, I’m able to work around my own schedule, not someone else’s to be able to learn the guitar more effectively. I can even tell the app how much time I have for the lesson, and they work with that. Again, this is an inexpensive, convenient, efficient, and effective way to learn your dream instrument. This app works for the busiest people to the people who want to spend all their time learning, and 1 lesson per week isnt cutting it. Don’t spend over a hundred dollars a month on lessons, when you have Yousician right in front of you! 👌🏻Yousician is a blessing!!!
Pretty Great! 4.5 for me
by 6453936299:76737:$ on 2020/07/10 23:11
Guitar has proved to be a lot harder than any instrument I’ve tried so far, so it was really neccessary for me to have a game plan and track to follow. I love the certificates that you can opt to email to yourself, its super cute and makes you feel real proud. I also love how it has lessons on understanding the music and notes itself. I think tgats often overlooked but very important. I would 100% reccomend the pro version if you can, it makes learning a lot more enjoyable without annoying ads and playing original songs ratger than yousician ones. The only complaints i have is that I think that we should be able to skip certain certain lessons or songs. Some are just too hard :/ and I’d rather be able to keep practicing other skills then come back to this. Another complaint I have, I think that it’d make the app even better if you had the chords and notes to more popular songs that we could choose to play similar to the challenges or guitar tabs. Also it would be amazing if we had song library where we can practice our favorite songs we’ve played throughout the lessons. But overall its a pretty great app.
Love it, needs some improvement... 4 1/2 stars
by doggy poo #2 on 2020/04/27 00:24
This app is the best ever! I love its learning experience and how they motivate you. Although this is my favorite app, I’m disappointed for a few reasons. First, the “need headphones” issue almost all other reviews are talking about is a big one. Using headphones really isn’t a big deal! However, if you don’t have any, the app just will NOT work. The fact that it picks up the noise that the app is making itself is a bad issue. Next, the new update. This one is partly my fault, but still. I clicked onto the app to take a lesson, and it told me to update the app. I wanted to do it, and so I tried to, only to discover my storage was full. May I note that I still had 4 1/2 empty GB. Anyway, I got back into the app to take a lesson and clear up space later and I clicked on the X in the corner. It was a fake X. Now I have to clear up lots of storage for 20 minutes (my tablet takes forever to clear fpr some reason), and in the meantime I just cannot take a guitar lesson. These are some issues, and please clear them. This is still one of my fav apps! Sorry for the long review... bye!
Great app but...
by GodsGirl618 on 2018/05/19 13:08
Yousician has been an awesome app. Ive been using the app to learn both guitar and ukulele the past few weeks and have progressed fairly quickly, but not without some frustrations. Frequently the app has trouble distinguishing me from its own background track, and will fail me on a song that I am playing correctly. This forces me to go back and play the song again, usually an extra 3 or 4 times, before it will pick up enough of my playing to allow me to move on with the lesson. I also wish it would teach you a few more songs that I could play outside of the app. I have gotten through several levels on both instruments and have not really learned any songs on either. Playing along with the music during the lesson works well enough, but when you’re done with your lesson the app pretty much locks down everything, including the songs you’ve already unlocked, unless you have premium. This is new since the update, and I wish it would go back! I understand not being able to access new content outside your allotted 10/15 minutes without paying, but without being able to practice what you’ve already started working on, it really slows down progress.
Good tool for practice
by Bags4028 on 2019/01/04 05:31
I’m already a working musician (rhythm guitar and bass in a couple of bands), so I came to Yousician to work specifically on lead guitar skills it’s been easy to neglect. On that, it has delivered; I’m a more confident soloist than I was a year ago, with more techniques in my repertoire. This wasn’t a goal, but I’m also more comfortable playing against a click track. Bonus! A few quibbles: The app doesn’t seem to judge the quality of notes—I’ve gotten a “Perfect” for clams that I would never accept in a recording session. Some of the fingerings seem a little off, more commonly in the assigned finger than in the fret/string. I’ve occasionally gotten stuck in what feels like an endless practice loop of the same song: I think I’m done with it, and then it’s there the next time I open the app, and it must be passed before I can move on to anything else. And the synthy-ness of the arrangements can be a little annoying (though it’s probably a necessary evil to accommodate the tempo shifts). Still, this does what it says it does, and the structure really does make you practice more. I’m not sure I would make this (or any app) my only approach to learning an instrument, but it’s a great supplement.
Premium is a bit shady
by Nate 4321 on 2018/08/30 06:28
I purchased the premium for ukulele version of this app for about $120 for the year. It’s by far the most money I’ve ever spent on an app, but it’s cheaper and more convenient than scheduled lessons so I thought why not. I feel like I’ve learned a lot from the app but recently felt cheated when in my lesson popped up a song, Brown Eyed Girl, which I was excited about because many of the songs are a bit obscure they give you to play and I knew this song. But it was just an ad for their Super Duper Premium, or whatever they call it. I don’t believe this was offered when I originally subscribed and I was under the impression I had unlimited access; it’s definitely a bit shady to change terms after a purchase has been made; it boils down to they want another $60. This begging for more money leaves me feeling cheated. I thought I was paying for ad free and yet... That said, my kids each have free accounts and get the same songs I do, but can only do a ten minute lesson instead of the unlimited time I get. That time is perfect for them. It’s a very fun app and I do feel like I’ve learned a lot, but unfortunately I still do feel a bit cheated by Yousician and probably won’t renew their premium service.

OMG I have wanted to play guitar for 2 years now and now I can actually play it! I have had this app for 3 days and it has literally changed my life in so many ways and all of them are good ways! It can teach you in a short amount of time I have already done 6 exercises and I think I’m ready to join a competition please get this app it is amazing and I give it 5 stars no duh! I love this app and feel like it’s perfect for anyone who needs to either let the music hold your sad and depressing feelings (me) and also people who want to start a hobbie or career I feel like the people who made this picked the right one to make, they could have chose a lot of other things but they chose music the thing that lifts people up and gives them hope when they are down music is apart of us and we wouldn’t be able to be kind and amazing people we are today without it so get Yousician the best music teacher you’ll ever have! And remember music will guid you through your way to happiness so the shorter you download it the better you will feel. Music is love.
Almost good.

What the app does well, it does well. Teaching the basics to beginners, proper technique and the like. However at the door of all of that, when you’re getting into playing the songs that are available, it really loses its shine. The song list is extremely basic, I constantly find myself listening and filling in tons of blank spaces. Single note trains isn’t fun or challenging for a bass player and leads me outright frustration. Some of the best known bassists aren’t even on the playlists, aside from rhcp, and some classic players from the ages. The problem with this is while it structures the fundamentals for bass, it doesn’t teach or challenge a player into becoming an outstanding bassist that really stands out on stage. Seeing as I paid the full 180 dollars for the year subscription, I feel I have grounds to complain about this. I also recommend, if the developers even read this, to include an option to disable vocals. The singers are very jarring to listen to. A playlist of songs that are incrementally more challenging and use unorthodox Basslines is something I hope to see in the future; as it stands for bass the song choices are incredibly monotonous. I can only speak for the bass side of things.
Total Garbage
by WorkBoat7 on 2019/07/28 08:10
This app is ABSOLUTELY NOT FOR BEGINNERS. It’s a 110% waste of you money. It a great concept but, it doesn’t work. When your playing it doesn’t pick up the notes consistently or evenly enough. Sometimes it will register a note in a song and other times it will not. Sometimes it will tell you, you are early or late playing a note. Sometimes you play the same note right on Time an it will register it as being wrong. So if your a beginner on an intermediate player it hard to get good feedback on what’s really going on in terms of if you doing things right or wrong. Instead of adding more songs what they need to do fix the basics. Creating software that is dead on accurate in terms of registering every note correctly. I paid for the basic subscription and I totally regret it. I will definitely cancel it before it renews again. If they ever bother to fix this issue, then it will be just what they claim it to be the “the best way to learn guitar”. As it stands no this app is TOTAL GARBAGE. If you are a beginner it will only hold you back long term.
Great Idea, Terrible Platform
by Electromagnet83 on 2018/06/29 21:52
I’m so frustrated with this program right now. I bought it because I like it but it’s extremely difficult to get the program to read all of your notes. I’m a 20 year guitar veteran who is going through everything to try and get all the gold stars before I advanced to the higher stuff. I first started out using my phone but the sound coming out of the phone conflicted with the sound going in the phone and cost a bunch of problems. So I started using headphones. This works great when you’re playing bass, there are rarely issues. But when playing guitar I’ve had to go as far as using a USB interface on my computer plugging the guitar directly into it and using the amp sounds within the program. However it regularly grinds to a halt like the audio engine can’t support it, even though I’m running it on a really good system that I custom built. There’s one particular exercise were in a matter how many times I hit this one particular low email it won’t register it. A succession of two emails and it just won’t register the second one like two out of three times. Making it impossible for me to get gold stars and making me very frustrated. I’m so mad at this program right now
Singing great, guitar tuning terrible
by Charger_Law on 2020/07/16 18:31
I’ve been using this app for a while now for my singing, and it’s been great, but a bit ago I tried to guitar lessons on it, and the part that helped you tune the guitar was absolute trash. It either said I was to high or too low, never in the middle. It also would say that I needed to make it lower, so I would try, and I would barely tune, because at this point it was so tight it was almost impossible to make tighter, and then it said I was way to low and needed to make it higher, once again, I just barely turned the thing to tune it, and it was saying it need to be lower. It also, would stay in the middle between perfect and way to high, and would never move, except for when that one part I just mentioned would happen. I bet even if I went to a professional tuner it would say it’s to high or to low. Please, please fix this. If it wasn’t for that, then this would probably be 5 star review. Well, 5 star if that wouldn’t happen, and you didn’t have to install an entirely different app for piano. Also, please make the daily lesson time longer, it is WAY too short. Make the limit 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Amazing app! Just a small suggestion...
by TheVoodoolover on 2020/03/30 21:12
This app is truly amazing! There is I think five different instruments you can choose from, and you can do all at once if you’d like. There is singing, guitar, piano, bass, and ukulele. I use singing and guitar and piano. They all work extremely well, and after a couple days of practice I am already getting better! And I did not get the premium. My cousin did though and she is WAY better at the guitar now! One thing I do suggest for the guitar is you use headphones because it picks up other sounds easily sometimes. There is something that is kinda annoying. I was going to do the monthly premium thing, but it every month. It’d be great if there was something I could do to buy it for only one month. I just want to pay for a single month because I do t have enough money for every month all the time. But it isn’t a big deal because I still am learning at a very fast rate! Highly recommend!!!
Annoying bug keeps me from playing
by K4rm4 Ki115 on 2018/10/17 02:31
When I first got yousician, I thought it was an amazing app and I learned how to play real fast, well in my perspective at least. Anyhow, I like being on call with people and I used to stay on call while playing in yousician, but one day an update stopped that. Basically now, anytime I try selecting a song or tuning my guitar, it says “please select an audio output” so I pick one of the following, after that it tells me that it failed. I’ve tried most of everything I could. In the end, im not able to use the app when on call, I have to end the call to play and I don’t like that. Other than this, everything is fair and amazing. I just can’t use the app as much and no longer plan on buying premium, why would I if I don’t use the app often. If I find a way around this, if it fixes, or something that allows me to use the app while on a call, I’ll gladly change my review. (Edit after response) -already contacted support after putting up this review, sadly enough after they looked into it, they said the mic won’t work with the call on, and they recommended me use the app after I’m off call... I wouldn’t be here if it was just as simple as me ending the call.
What once was a great app is now ruined
by dariusmr on 2018/12/26 03:06
I’ve virtually never written a review in my life but I felt compelled to in this situation considering how much I used to love this app. I downloaded Yousician over a year ago and was initially blown away. I used to take guitar lessons when I was much younger and the app made it so easy to pick it back up again. Lessons used to be guided with videos and your progression in technique was mapped out in a diagram that outlined what had been completed and what was yet to come. There were several other competitor apps that I considered but what really set Yousician apart was the community of shared and user created content. With recent updates to the app they’ve removed user created content wiping out 90% of their artist and song catalogue. (For those of you who don’t understand the significance of this, user created content enabled you to find virtually any song you were looking for.) After reading that “popular” songs were reserved for premium+ subscribers I upgraded only to be disappointed, again, at the lack of content. For any new users reading who have signed up since July/August, this app used to offer so much more without having to trick people into paying more for less. And what an absolute shame, it really used to be great.
Great app! Few minor tweaks
by gogaton on 2018/11/25 21:56
There seems to be some issue with logging in when starting up. I kept getting logged out and a couple times had to restart all progress from scratch because it didn’t save onto my account for some reason. Also, when learning the guitar, the “chord checker” trainings are WAY too strict in my opinion. One string will be only slightly not ringing out, but otherwise the chord sounds good and it won’t let me move on. That level of strictness is good for if I’m supposed to play x number of chords exactly right to move on. But when it requires a lot of chords to be played in a short amount of time and it will only accept them if each one is absolutely entirely technically perfect it’s way too difficult for a beginner. I keep getting stuck on those lessons for hours and not able to get past which is super frustrating. I know for an advanced player changing chords quickly and accurately is crucial. But as a beginner I just want confirmation that I’m doing it at lost almost totally right so I can keep learning, then I can go back and fine tune and perfect.
Don’t put a price on knowledge
by snarflet on 2020/01/25 00:23
I love this app I just started playing acoustic guitar and I have learned a lot but there is one problem you don’t get lessons easy time you want there’s a certain amount of lessons you can do in a day and that is really annoying cause some people don’t want to spend $27 dollars a month to learn how to play an instrument education should be free because you can’t put a price on knowledge and you guys are really being unfair to the people who don’t spend money on apps like me and I really want to learn how to play this instrument but you guys are giving me the restriction of learning. Fix this please this is something that other people would agree on. And maybe if you don’t stop doing this I have an idea that might make people happy cut your price in half or maybe more and then people would do that because people hate things that cost a lot of money. And they might tell their friends and family about this app. Please do this not just for me but for other people who would agree with me.
Good except for one thing
by Slopok1 on 2019/06/24 21:11
I have been using this app for a little while now and I’ve been loving it! I enjoy how the songs aren’t too fast for beginners and you can try them over and over again. I also like practice mode, where you can slow down how fast the song goes so you can work your way up to the normal speed. The only reason I’m rating this 4 stars is because almost every time I go to start a song this message pops up with the option to try out the 7 day free trial. I understand that Yousician wants to get as many people to try or buy the Premium stuff, but I don’t want to be shown the offer 3 times during my free lesson time, and it takes away from my time as well. Point being, I’m tired of seeing the pop up message and I just want to get to my song. This happens every single day I practice. I don’t need to be shown something over and over again. The only message I will accept is the one that lets you know when you free lesson time is up, but the others are unacceptable. Thank you.
Amazing! But one huge problem.
by tapia.angel13 on 2018/11/07 05:36
I’m willing to change this to a 5 if this gets fixed. The way it teaches is great! It pretty much makes learning music into a fun game. I was using it when I first started, it’s been 6 years and I’m starting to use it again to refine my skills. What really irritates me, are the videos. It will play for 2 seconds, until it starts stuttering and cutting out. Then I stop. Rewind. Does it over and over again. I’ve tried getting on and off different wifis, it’s not my connection. It’s always the same. I’m unable to use the videos because they’re so frustrating to try and get to speed without stopping. It gets to a point where I’m unable to actually learn anything from the videos because it won’t go on for more than 2 seconds at a time. If this gets fixed, I’d be more than pleased. But I’m super visual and I really enjoy having videos to go on top of the practices. I’m worried for when I get to the level where I actually am in real life, and to where I’m actually going to have to start learning things I don’t already know on the program.
Tab
by Dan50243 on 2017/10/30 06:39
So I downloaded this because I'm new to the ukulele (like 5 days new). I'd had pretty good practice before downloading this (I knew how to read tab and was pretty good at quickly moving between chords) the only thing that bothers me about this is when I have to play. While the bouncy ball/track aesthetic seems like a fun way to learn, to me it's just confusing and causes me to lose track of what string the ball is going to bounce on vs. where my finger is. Is there a way to convert tests/practices to regular tab rather than a track? If not please add that in. Other than that, this has been extensively helpful. *Update* I played around with it and found something similar to what's mentioned above. But not enough. It would be much more helpful if the track at least ran vertically instead of horizontally. What would be most helpful is a page showing the individual tabs with a mini track going through the them rather than laying them on a track. I imagine that'd be a hell of a lot cheaper to animate than what you guys got now.
One of the best apps I’ve ever used
by Wombat3456 on 2018/09/14 04:23
I rediscovered my love for playing guitar through this app. Before, I was in a rut from not knowing what to play or do when I sat down to practice. Since using yousician however, I haven’t had this problem. It gives me plenty to work on every day, for as much as I want. Plus, with the love feedback and data it tracks, I’m able to see my progress (I’d love to see more analytics in future releases). The songs are varied, unique, and provide great foundation for playing more advanced songs you actually care about. My absolute favorite feature is the practice mode. You can slow down the tempo of anything you’re working on, to literally any speed, then yousician will automatically increase or decrease the tempo based on how well you perform. This app is well worth the money I paid for it. Stick with it, and you’ll get great returns on your investment (fun, guitar skills, and anything else that comes from playing).
Love it but could be even better
by Will McTell on 2020/08/02 19:06
I am very impressed and happy with this app and have seen definite improvement in my playing. One area of feedback I would recommend is a supplemental teaching video or demonstration that goes along with different songs. For example, if a certain song has a unique fingerpicking style or a difficult chord change, perhaps a video with a teacher explaining the unique aspects of the song and the important technique highlighted in the song, then perhaps the learner would more easily identify and master those aspects of the song with more understanding. For example, “this blues song is in the key of A and much of the solo section uses this scale (demonstrate the scale and/or link to a practice exercise) and this major 7th chord in section two is what makes this song unique and challenging." While playing more slowly in practice mode is important, there are more ways to guide the learner to understanding.
Worth The Price of Admission to the World of Musicians

Started learning the guitar (classical) through Yousician four weeks ago & have progressed faster than I thought possible... Serious about learning the guitar? Want well thought-out, fun, interesting, motivating, intelligent, and logically presented lessons & information designed for individual pacing? Looked into guitar lessons but don’t have the flexibility to commit to a regular time and place on a weekly basis? Have you calculated the cost of annual guitar lessons with a professional teacher? Yousician has earned Apple’s Editors’ Choice and my recommendation because it epitomizes the power of an App: the power to teach effectively & the power to learn efficiently, entertainingly & conveniently. ...Some days I practice for 10 minutes & others I practice for over an hour. Yousician allows you to cater your lessons to your schedule. Yes, for an app it initially seems to have a high price but the annual subscription equates to less than 4 one hour lessons with a good professional guitar teacher & you can learn at the pace your sore fingertips allow. Whether I practice for 10 minutes or an hour, Yousician has proven to represent a great investment towards reaching my guitar playing goals. I also plan to Yousician some piano skills soon. Yousician: well worth the price of admission to join the world of musicians. Not affiliated with the creators — just an avid and appreciative Youser;-)
This app is amazing, with room to improve
by Batcat43 on 2018/10/12 15:14
I'm an absolute music beginner and I have been using Yousician for guitar for about a month. I live the app and feel like I'm making real progress. Practice mode is very helpful for slowing down the tempo, honing in on the trickiest parts of a song, and repetition. The lessons are well-designed and the feedback is genuinely motivating. Hearing the Aussie accented "instructor" compliment me on my performance is surprisingly uplifting. A couple areas for potential improvement: first, I'd love to be able to print out the guitar tabs so I could practice offline and get used to reading tabulature in non-electronic format. Second, I wish I could have another family on my account, but with separate profiles so we could both be learning at our own pace, even if it required a small upcharge. And hopefully Yousician will continue to be able to license more and more well known songs to add to the fun.
Too soon to tell
by Antilabel13 on 2019/08/11 13:18
So far it’s been fun, free version is super basic so it’s way to early to tell if it’s any good for learning songs or improving certain higher-level skills. But over all it’s like playing guitar hero with an actual guitar which makes practicing fun and gratifying. However it’s quite expensive for the paid version which is a bit of a turn off. If the price could be a little lower say $100 or $125 for a year. That would be more reasonable to me. Update: developer responded to my review with some generic message stating there is both yearly and monthly membership options the yearly requiring a commitment and the monthly being able to be cancelled anytime. Felt this response was unneeded as I’m not an idiot and could see that for myself and it doesn’t address the issue I had with the price. So thanks for the response I guess? Makes me question what level of customer service one could expect from this company; it certainly didn’t give me any more confidence in purchasing a membership on the platform.
The Best Teacher
by Espressoft on 2020/04/25 03:16
I always loved the guitar but after the first time I took a class for it in the 6th grade, I thought I would never be able to play it. Yousician changed that for me. My girlfriend recommended it to me when she was taking piano lessons from the app. It does more than just make you watch video tutorials. The app helps tune your guitar by listening to you strum each string, and it starts out with easy videos and interactive strumming techniques that listen to you while you play so you know you’re doing it right. It’s like you have a REAL instructor there with you. I just got the premium, and I have to say, playing to songs that you know makes the experience that much more enjoyable. After you learn the basics, you can decide what kind of experience you want to learn which I thought was very cool. There’s lessons for those who want to just rock out solo, those who want to play as more of a rhythmic background, and those who simply love music theory and reading music. Best part about it, YOU CAN DO ALL THREE! I know $200 a year these days sounds pricey, but the cost of guitar lessons are usually much MUCH more. You’re definitely getting your money’s worth. Get the free trial and see for yourself !!!! Take it from someone who thought at the age of 22 that they’ll NEVER be decent at the guitar and doesn’t have an instrumental bone in their body.
Good idea, but not executed properly.
by cuckoofish03 on 2017/09/30 19:57
This app is such a great idea, and I’m so glad it’s mostly free, but there’s a huge difference between the lesson and the test. How frustrating is it when you know the material and do well at playing it and then you take the test and it’s completely different and much more complicated? It’s very frustrating. That’s what Yousician does. The lessons will give you a few chords to play and they’ll slow down the song for you when you are tested at the end of the lesson, but when a skills test comes up, there’s no practice, slowing it down, pausing it, or warning as to what you will have to play. Usually these are hard and quite frankly frustrating tests that (even though they only use the things you learned) go much faster than you’re used to. Taking one of these tests usually will have you extremely frustrated or maybe in tears. Another problem: for some reason, every time I use the app, it doesn’t automatically use my iPhone microphone to pick up sounds, so when I forget to turn it on, it fails me when I play at all because it won’t pick up noise. Please fix this; it’s insanely frustrating. They also don’t teach piano chords the easier way, and even though I knew how to play chords already, since I needed to unlock newer lessons, I had to relearn them in a strange and much harder way on Yousician. Once again, it’s such a great idea and has been pretty helpful in learning piano, but there are some big problems in the way of success.
Super helpful but incomplete.

I decided to pick up a yousician subscription again to learn bass over the summer because I had a really good experience when I used it to learn the ukulele. It’s really helped with my technique, speed, and motivation, and I like that I can practice by myself and for as long as I want. It also has helped me learn some basic music theory that is helpful for the bass. However, coming back, it seems like the interface is a little more empty- I couldn’t find the community/fan made songs anymore? The song choices are kind of basic and lacking. I was hoping to learn some green day bass lines with yousician but it seems there is none, I assume because of copyright and ownership stuff, but it would be nice to bring back the community made/make your own tab thing. Not a big deal since you can find tabs all over the internet, but it’s helpful to use yousician since it gives real time feedback and you can slow it down to practice.
No app cares less about its users
by jqlogic on 2019/01/23 01:45
I’ve used this app for almost a year, paying an annual subscription for the highest level of functionality. It could be amazing. But the general pattern has been to remove functionality again and again, in particular the ability to create and practice your own songs, with no communication at all to the end user. I spent many hours laboriously keying in songs I wanted to practice into Yousician. I even bought a special program (guitar pro) just in order to get my songs on the Yousician platform so I could practice them. Then one day, poof — Yousician deleted every single one of my songs. No explanation offered. I emailed to ask whether my songs would ever come back. No response. From an app I’m paying over $100 a year to use. It’s hard to explain how it feels to have songs you have spent dozens of hours practicing just deleted one day, with no comment. All the stats, and the metrics you were using to progress—gone. The level of disregard Yousician has for its users is truly shocking. It’s not hard to keep an open line of communication with your users, but Yousician doesn’t bother.
Good at teaching, bad at being user friendly
by 1930768427584348 on 2018/09/30 00:18
My main complaint with this is just how often there is an ad to use the “pro version” or whatever. Practice times are very short, so having constant reminders that if i fork over money, i can play as long as i want is really annoying. I’m not paying $15 per month, that’s way too much for what it’s worth, so stop cramming it in my face . I don’t mind the suggestion of a pro version, but just do it once when the session is over. The app itself though, is definitely pretty good, it teaches well and has a pleasant user face. HOWEVER, it’s not $15 good. The price is especially a rip off if you only plan on learning 1 instrument, $10 for one instrument is outrageous. If i were learning from an actual person that sat right next to me and taught me how to play, then that would be more reasonable, but it’s not, it’s an app on your phone. Maybe if the app itself costed a flat rate of $15 then it would be okay, but 15 a month is dumb. I could go get lunch twice for $15.
Does some things well....
by Chris1960! on 2019/03/02 14:53
It definitely teaches you to find chords and notes without looking at the fretboard because you have to follow the bouncing ball. However, I am gold through level 5 and wouldn't say I can play guitar. The knowledge path teaches you essential but very basic music theory. In the lead path it randomly throws scales at you without much explanation. The video game like play is good and bad. The good is that it gives you a feeling that you are progressing and you are but you can’t rely on it alone to teach you. It's more like harder and harder exercises so you have to supplement it with some other type of learning. It's not perfect in hearing what you are playing which can be frustrating. One last thing: transcribe and learn some songs and try to play them without following the ball. This will improve your timing and simulate real world playing. All in all it's one of the best apps I've tried but mix it up with something else like GuitarTricks.
Best Teacher Ever
by Axe966 on 2019/12/20 22:40
I recommend this app to anyone trying to learn guitar. I’ve taken guitar lessons from 2 separate teachers over the years and was unable to really learn how to play. I had given up trying. My guitar sat under my bed for years until I found this app and dusted off my LP. Within weeks of using the free version I learned more than I had ever learned taking lessons. (Maybe I had bad teachers) but I paid for those lessons! Initially I was hesitant about the annual price. When you break it down it’s approximately 1-2 months what you’d pay taking lessons from a “teacher”. It sounds silly but this app changed my life. I’ve always dreamed of playing guitar but thought it was impossible. I now play weekly in my church worship band. I’m not great but consider myself a very competent guitarist. Been using the paid version for about 3 years. I absolutely love it and would recommend to anyone!
I wanna like this app but...
by CCBacara on 2019/11/10 03:41
Ok I first thought this app was great! All the lessons! I played for about 5 minutes after downloading it, and by the end of those first minutes, I already hated it. Everything is very expensive! I am just someone, with big dreams trying to improve my singing abilities, and I thought this app would be a great boost of help, but I was sadly mistaken. I really had high hopes for this app, but it wasn’t everything I hoped it would be. I don’t want to get the premium package, because it is a little overpriced for what it is. I can only do one lesson a day, without premium, and I can’t even sing any songs, cause there is not a big variety and they are all premium. I will now be looking for other apps, that hopefully, help me in other ways then money. Also, please stop playing the ad to promote your own game. I know these free apps need ways to fund themselves, so go get other apps and companies to display there ads! I really wanted the app, but I was let down really fast, please make some big changes and maybe my opinion of the app, will change.
Love this.
by Rag3B00n on 2017/12/28 14:09
I love learning from this app! I have always wanted to learn piano since being taught a few little catchy tunes from a childhood friends mom. With Yousician I can truly learn at my own pace and in my own space. I love how you get pats on the back even little awards online it really keeps the spirits up. I must admit the puzzles can sometimes be frustrating even make you furious at times with frustration. I saw the pitch puzzles and thought oh this is hard and would get upset and think this is stupid it isn’t even really teaching me to play. I tell you though sure enough I was totally wrong I surprised myself being able to tell pitches even the slightest differences in pitch and because of that it has really helped me. Not to drag this on but don’t give up every little obstacle that is presented to you is there to make you better. You can even surprise yourself!

This game needs better work
by GOODIEDMDMDKDKCKCC on 2020/09/16 02:12
I was using this app and I was doing the tutorial and they couldn’t tell from my high note and my 2nd note I was confused and I have to pay for lessons like I don’t want a app that you have to pay for lessons ugh 🙁

No Good

This app is terrible I try to play ukulele and guitar and it doesn’t give me credit for when I play the correct note. Also the ball lands on the wrong notes when I play a C note it said to play an A even though the lesson was on C!

One of the best apps

Great app if your a beginner, intermediate, and pro. Over all great music starter.

I have been struggling on and off to learn the guitar for the past 30 years. Practice was always frustrating and miserable. Took a chance on Yousician and I am already having a blast playing along with songs I know. Definitely a good investment !!

Love but one issue
by znakabnsdbJdhsn on 2020/08/30 02:22
This is the best I’m trying to play the guitar like my uncle but the thing it’s though.. you have to wait until tomorrow to learn again which is pretty stupid :/
i liked it at first

I’m learning how to play the ukelele but i really don’t like how you have limited lesson time. The cost of the subscription is way too overpriced.
This is a great app!!!!😀🙃😃
by Gutairloveratheart on 2020/08/29 20:41
Yousician is a great app and I would recommend it to anyone who is a beginner or even advanced!
More songs
by Frostygrayson on 2020/08/27 22:06
I feel like I’m not getting the bang for my buck when it comes to songs I know that the creators need to put more songs in like Marilyn Manson and rap for guitar

Not good if it’s not premium
by katie16:33 on 2020/08/25 20:38
I love the ukulele and I thought this app would help me play better, but without the premium version you really can’t do much. The lessons are really slow and too easy and you can only do a few minutes of lesson. I never bought premium, but i would think that the premium version is a lot better.
This app is great!
by crookynev on 2020/08/25 16:16
I was trying to learn ukulele from YouTube but it wasn’t exactly working so I tried this, and I love it. It does give you ads for the premium membership a lot and gives you a time limit, but other than that, it is awesome

This is the best!

Almost good.
by Rbally10 on 2018/12/12 21:30
What the app does well, it does well.

Love this.
