Great
Good but a HUDGE problem!!,
by ???12309 on 2019/06/25 23:09
The app is great but you can not play after 17 minutes. If you have premium then you can play as much as you want. But if you don’t want to pay $60 every 3 months then don’t get this app.
To expensive for 3 months!!!!!!!!!!!¡!!!!!!!

I do not want to pay 59.99 just for three months so booooooo is all from me

Great app but one problem
by deltaforce_091 on 2019/06/25 16:28
The app is nice in all but it would be better if we didn’t have to pay for it in order to learn
Great app
by asiemers on 2019/06/25 14:52
My daughter and I am taking ukulele lessons and this app is great for our practice. It corrects us when our fingers are misplaced and helps us to tune our instruments. My other daughter is going to use it for guitar. Love it.
Really Like the Feedback
by lancek43 on 2019/06/25 11:00
I really like that Yousician uses my iPad microphone to listen to my playing and give accurate feedback that I can use to improve. Great guitar lessons on my time schedule!

This is a great tool for anyone wanting to learn guitar. The lessons are so fun that I don’t want to stop. Once I finally bring myself to put the guitar down, I am already looking forward to the next lesson.
Not that happy
by My:Life:<> on 2019/06/25 01:50
The actual teaching part of it is great! You can learn a lot. Though I still have a few problems. First of all, the app was picking up the wrong notes. I was trying to play middle C on the white keys, (piano) but it picked up B on the black keys. As soon as this happened I deleted the app. I didn’t wanna deal with it. Second, when I was finished with the preview ( to get an idea of where I should start) it’s showed me level two. I was like “ok it unlocked level two, let’s try it.” But then it said I needed to buy it or something. I didn’t like that. I was like “ Why would they suggest this if I’m obviously not gonna buy it. I mean, I just bought the app!” Anyways, this app is ok. I mean, they could step up there game. But if you are willing to deal with these problems, I say get the app! Have a nice day y’all!
Yousician is fantastic

Easy to follow along, challenging enough to truly make you better and keep you coming back.
Really great
by jcoletaylor on 2019/06/25 01:24
Kind of an amazing app, really intuitive to use, to practice with. I’m really happy with it, even at the monthly cost. Well worth it.
Great app for learning the guitar!
by jbuch13 on 2019/06/25 01:23
I’ve struggled for years to find a way to learn the guitar while maintaining a hectic schedule. I finally found a way to help me learn the guitar on my schedule and with a sense of accomplishment along the way.
It really works
by matheda on 2019/06/25 00:41
I have tried off and on for years to learn an instrument and always felt like I reached a block that I just couldn’t get past. I have been using this for a month and I am actually getting better every single day. Thank you! Completely worth the paid plan.

Adding the banjo to instruments you teach
by Kenzhole on 2019/06/24 23:02
You guys should really add the banjo to optional instruments to learn. I’ve been trying to figure it out and learn from the guitar option but it’s kind of difficult since they are two different instruments. I’m sure it is very helpful to people learning the guitar though and it is helping me a little! Please take this into consideration.
Thanks but no thanks
by Piggylasers on 2019/06/24 22:56
Yeah Well i don’t want to play $29.99 a month for a stupid app on my piano I couldn’t believe it I mean i just got this piano and all of a sudden this app wants me to pay $29.99 that’s just nuts for an app too!!!!!!! 🥺🥺🥺😒😒😏🤬🤬🤬😡😡😡
Awesome app
by SuperBoulos on 2019/06/24 22:07
I am a complete amateur with very minimal understanding of any music, but wow a week in and this app is already teaching me so pacing is great, and the miniature games makes learning how to play guitar fun and engaging. Thanks!
Good except for one thing
by Slopok1 on 2019/06/24 21:11
I have been using this app for a little while now and I’ve been loving it! I enjoy how the songs aren’t too fast for beginners and you can try them over and over again. I also like practice mode, where you can slow down how fast the song goes so you can work your way up to the normal speed. The only reason I’m rating this 4 stars is because almost every time I go to start a song this message pops up with the option to try out the 7 day free trial. I understand that Yousician wants to get as many people to try or buy the Premium stuff, but I don’t want to be shown the offer 3 times during my free lesson time, and it takes away from my time as well. Point being, I’m tired of seeing the pop up message and I just want to get to my song. This happens every single day I practice. I don’t need to be shown something over and over again. The only message I will accept is the one that lets you know when you free lesson time is up, but the others are unacceptable. Thank you.
Please make a better free version!

Subscription
by dont.matter on 2019/06/24 19:07
Great app love using it, it has taught me how to play guitar the right way but I unsubscribed to it so I can just use the free version since I can’t afford it anymore but yet I still get charged 15 each month and I can’t cancel it because it says I have already canceled it so it just says resubscribe. I know it might be a yearly plan but it has been more than a year at this point and I just got charged again.

Signed in for an annual subscription and on April 29, 2018. Canceled it on April 24, 2019. Their words (e-mail) not mine. They continued to bill me and now another person claims it started back up in March! Horrible costumer service! I’ve asked now for their customer service number multiple times now, still they won’t acknowledge that I’ve asked for it only on communicate with through email! WATCH OUT!
Love this app

Great way to spend a little time and learn a lot.

by H_blastah on 2019/06/24 16:18
I wanted to learn more guitar since I only know like two chords and a lot of fret stuff but the "how well do you know guitar" question at the beginning didn't have specific enough answers

Fun way to learn an instrument
by surferbetty on 2019/06/23 20:55
Isn’t going to teach me how to read music but I bet I am further along with the ukulele than I would be otherwise.
Left hand
by nuclearstorm132 on 2019/06/23 20:05
The left hand came in way to late with piano
I don’t like it
by samantha keocher on 2019/06/23 19:22
I am playing the guitar, not the bass but the other one anyways when I get to playing the thinnest string and playing fret 3 it feels like I’m gonna snap the string so I think you should get rid of that, but the other steps are fine
Good app
by AndyCookie1239 on 2019/06/23 19:22
It’s a really good app for learning instruments, however it is a real pain that you have to pay to get all the lessons and songs.
Very great, except...
by otahere43 on 2019/06/23 18:08
I love the app and how it listens to you play. I think it is extremely helpful to anyone that is learning how to play the piano. The only thing I don't like is that when yiu are reading the music there is a little green bar signifying each beat. This would be fine except that the little bar does not seem to move at a constant tempo and it kind of throws me off. Other than that it is a great app!
The best app
by unikola101 on 2019/06/23 16:20
Yousician is one of two apps I have that actually work for me I learn so fast but learn so well I’m already pretty good at two hands and I’ve only used this app for 3 weeks it is so much fun and with this app it’s so easy to learn I’m glad I found this app and with the help of youcisian I’m becoming a amazing pianist
Great for whole family
by TJelke on 2019/06/23 16:05
I got Yousician for my youngest son who wanted to learn the uke. Since then he and I and my other son have all joined in with uke, bass, guitar, piano and voice. It is a fun and easy way to learn music basics. My youngest is really developing serious skills!

Yousician is a great way to learn music
This is epic!
by DookOop on 2019/06/23 14:25
This app helps me so much playing my piano and ukulele. The reason there’s not a 5 stars from me is because it has bugs. It will not read my notes on piano. I have to play black keys instead of white ones. Can you fix this? Thank you for reading!
Love this app
by friend3601 on 2019/06/23 14:06
I love this app. I’m not a premium member, but I love that you still get to learn without having to pay! Although, it would be fun to play some songs that are popular from the radio, I still love this app!

Great teaching tool but not perfect
by hobodoc1954 on 2019/06/23 03:24
I recently picked up guitar and bass. This app is a great teacher, but I wish it had more of the songs from the 60’s and 70’s. It does occasionally miss the note I play and counts it as incorrect when I know it was spot on, but not very often. I will keep using it to learn.
Not for experienced piano players
by todtod244 on 2019/06/23 01:31
I tried to like it but it’s just frustrating and don’t really feel like I’m contributing musically. It feels like I’m playing video game
Incredibly easy and efficient
by swooshan32 on 2019/06/23 01:20

Great app to help anyone of any skill level to practice and improve! Well worth the money if you really wanna play music. I’m a bass player who started playing acoustic guitar with a basic knowledge of guitar from being in bands and have definitely seen improvement in my guitar playing using this app. 10/10

by yousicianisshit on 2019/06/22 19:33
Overpriced and useless. You’re better off learning from YouTube even though they take over the ads on every piano tutorial video.
Makes learning fun and easy!
by Kitchenscasa on 2019/06/22 16:44
I absolutely love this app! I’m learning to play the ukulele and it has made it so easy! My only issue is I’m left handed and I don’t feel the left handed mode is quite there. When playing songs, the strings are upside down for a lefty like me.
Wow
by gjdgetrbf on 2019/06/22 16:40
I really like Yousician but I just started playing and it has been so fun I can’t wait to get better and start loving it, it’s one of the best things I’ve spent my money on so good work 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Guitar hero with real instruments
by GED19904 on 2019/06/22 11:49
I said 10 years ago when guitar hero was popular on PlayStation that if they ever came out with something like it for real instruments it would be awesome. Well here it is and it’s not a cheap knock off. Just did my first yearly renewal so in the year I used Yousician right after I first bought my guitars (bass & 6 string) I can say I’m very pleased with my progress, I’m much better than I thought I was gonna be before discovering yousician. Wonder where I’ll be another year from now. Makes learning and playing fun and exciting especially when you mostly have to practice by yourself.
App
by Skyven HD on 2019/06/22 09:32
I’m trying to learn piano on this app but whenever I speak or play a wrong note it counts it as right. When ever I play a correct note it counts it as wrong.
Terrible
by jayjay1122 on 2019/06/22 03:47
Even playing through an amp this app can’t pick up the notes I’m hitting. Then it’ll register notes I didn’t even strike. Awful!!!!!

by abi_zinser on 2019/06/21 16:36
I loved this app and was learning so much so quickly... but I’m disappointed about the monthly cost raise. The minute I noticed it, I cancelled. Wasn’t worth breaking my budget over.

Good but could be better especially considering the price
by Mack0808 on 2019/06/21 02:17
I really like this app so far but my biggest gripe with it is not being able to set up different profiles for my kids and I. We decided we wanted to learn the guitar together but they have no way of tracking their own individual progress, rather they have to try and remember where they left off and guess on how many stars they got if someone else is ahead of them. It is expensive and not feasible for us to buy several different subscriptions. If profiles are added I would gladly give it five stars.
Moves at your pace
by Nate1325ba on 2019/06/21 01:54
Love this app. I use it for Bass and my daughter for acoustic guitar. Well worth price. Moves at your speed. Love the practice mode tempo control. Also flexibility of notations is great, Tabs vs notes.

DON’T GET THIS APP UNLESS YOU WANT TO PAY 20$ A MONTH!!😡😡
by Louisa01020307 on 2019/06/21 00:34
This app was amazing at first. I was so happy to have found it. I remember thinking, “Louisa, you have finally found the music app you’ve been looking for!” Until I realized it wasn’t even close... You start out perfectly. You find you instrument, you start to practice and your happy. At first, I was fine with ONLY GETTING 10 MINUTES A DAY. But then, I was getting better and better and realized, if I wanted to continue, I would have to practice for more then 10 mins. That’s when I discovered that I could do songs. I typed up all the songs I knew and would you believe it? I couldn’t play ANY of them. The only ones I could play/sing were the sappy/dumb song the app had made. One went, “Someday I will buy a car. It will be blue. It will be nice. Then I will learn to drive and get a dog.” What?! AND they were almost all on the same key! It went something like DDDDADDDEDDAAAEEEDDD. it was AWFUL!!! I could only fix that by getting premiums. No way. DONT BUT THIS APP!!!
This is the best app I’ve used in a while
by lvl.3 guitar learner on 2019/06/21 00:31
It’s free first of all, it’s fair, and it gives a 2 hour wait so you don’t take advantage of the app! It’s an all around great app to practice and learn new things on
Best app ever
by jakeblue812 on 2019/06/21 00:24
Best guitar lessons I love this app but you need to add more Iron Maiden and Ozzy Motley Crue guns and roses so far this is the best app I the world
To hard
by skldaddy on 2019/06/21 00:16
Level one is just to hard like my dog has fleas and... I would rather learn ukulele from a book👿
Frustrating App
by jhfhfudhfh on 2019/06/20 23:18
I downloaded the free version. Once it takes you to the free lesson it attempts to guide you through the different chords. However, at several points it stops and asks to continue playing the chords but it ends up pausing the lesson. It doesn’t matter how fat or skinny your fingers are, it continues to pause the lesson. I brought my 5 year old with smaller fingers and same issue. Glad I didn’t spend money for the paid version. Uninstalling as soon as I finish this review.
Great app

by SwatchTheMarker on 2019/06/20 20:34
My dad wanted me to try this in the days I don’t have real lessons I don’t regret it. This app is amazing! There’s just one minor issue, the free time is so short! But soon I’m getting premium so it will be solved soon. Thank you for making this! :3

Honestly pretty bad.
by A Novice Guitarist on 2019/06/20 19:11
Now I am a novice guitar player, only been playing for little under a year as of writing this. And let me tell you, it sounds nothing like in class. When I do tuning using the app or do the chords, it doesn’t work I’m doing exactly how they are supposed to be.

Helpful but there’s a few problems
by UkulelePIayer on 2019/06/20 14:03
I’ve been using this app everyday and it’s been really helpful. However, I wish there were more free songs for the people who can’t afford the premium. I think if more songs were added to the app, it would interest a lot more people, because at the moment, it’s kind of boring seeing as I can’t play the songs I want to play. Other than that, this app is really quality and you don’t even have to pay to get a few lessons a day.
Nothing for nothing
by Frying I on 2019/06/20 12:31
This app was exactly what I was looking for. It allowed me to practice reading sheet music while playing my bass. It would listen and tell me if I got the notes wrong. The reason for the 3 rating is you get just enough to see what the app does and then you have to pay $59.99 every Three months. Twenty dollars a month is not a lot and I am considering it. But don’t waste time unless you’re willing to pay.
Been using this app for years!
by ANoteToSelf on 2019/06/20 06:39
Lovely. Never had a single problem. I tell everyone to use this app. I love that the tuner is built in and that they email you your progress. It’s really encouraging for someone like me who gives up on everything lol

Awsome learning experience
Great app one problem
by L0skitty on 2018/11/01 18:52
This app is super helpful! I decided to learn ukulele but unfortunately I am not dedicated enough to pay for a premium account. Even just the 10 minutes a day helps so much, and even after just a month or two I'm starting to learn how to play songs. But I do have a problem with the new update. Just a couple minutes ago, I logged into the app ready to play my free session and saw the app could be updated. So I updated it. After it's updated I logged into the app started playing, realized the microphone in my iPad was not working and the app couldn't hear me (which may have been my problem but when I swiped out the app it seemed to work again) it only took me like a minute- not even that to fix it I'd say it took like 45 seconds maybe- and then I started my guided practice, played one song and then my lesson was over?? I checked my goals and it said 2/10 minutes played but then when I try to go back to guided practice it makes me wait 12 hours. I know I'm not putting money into this app yet (I am considering it) but if you guys are advertising to give 10 minutes of free lesson time a day then you need to give us our free time! Other than that the app is great, I highly recommend it to beginners learning to play one of the instruments they teach. I did only just update it today so it could just be a glitch, but if it is a tough that is something that needs to be fixed! Sorry for the super long review! Have a good day to whoever may be reading this!!
3 1/2 Stars
by ShaunN55 on 2019/02/02 17:17
This app makes learning a game. That is fun and great. I love when you are learning cords it shows you exactly which string(s) are “dead”. I love the option to “perfect” a song. That makes it challenging and motivational. I like how quickly they responded when I had a question. There is a lot to love about this app. So why 3 1/2 stars? It’s great so far to use to learn the guitar. However, once I get to the point that I want to be, just basic chords and notes there isn’t any Christian music which I prefer to play. They do have a board to vote for songs and there are some Christian songs on that board that I voted for. Considering that the tops songs are up in the hundreds of votes and the Christian songs are in the tens and just by the time I spent looking at the message board one request gets filled a month or so. That doesn’t look good for Christian music options on Yousicion any time soon. Still this is a fun app, easy to use, super fun to play, addicting even! So the 3 1/2 stars is MY personal preference. To pay 179$ for a year without music I personally prefer to play is a tough call. I am on the fence about it when my free trial runs out for just that reason. I do think in the future they will probably pick up some popular Christian songs and then it will be way way easier to pay for.
I absolutely love this app!

I have the subscription for the guitar. When I first downloaded the app it had some glitches but since the latest update I don’t have any complaints and even when it glitched (the sound wouldn’t play at times usually if the lesson was stopped due to other activity on my phone) if I exited the app and came back it was fine. I only have praise for Yousician! This app has sooo many different helpful components. From video and lessons to songs and challenges (against other users) to charts and emails that encourage you and track your progress. All the video lessons are extremely easy to comprehend and the layout makes it extremely easy to navigate. It is super addictive!!! There are several times Ive been totally sucked in spending hours glued to the app trying to perfect a lesson to rack up gold stars. I promise you the money is beyond worth it! You cannot beat the convenience of going at your pace practicing at any time for as long as you like! There are 3 sections (knowledge, rhythm, and lead). I have completed knowledge and I’m on the 3rd level of rhythm. I love the progressive levels. Rhythm and lead each have 10 levels and knowledge has 5. The gradual build from one lesson to another is pretty much flawless. I’m definitely going to write a review when I’m finished with all 3 sections. This app is my blessing!
So so enjoyable and helpful

I can’t recommend Yousician enough. I remember when Rock Band came out I kept saying I wish someone would make something like this where you actually learn and...here it is! I’ve been playing about a year and first, it’s SO fun. Secondly, I am learning so quickly. I do ten minutes a day but usually end up puttering another 10. The people who make this app have put so much thought, care and love into the layout and lessons. I really can’t recommend enough. I have premium bc I thought I’d like to play the famous songs but actually I find I enjoy the ones yousician has a lot more - they are usually not more than two minutes or so and are very carefully composed and calibrated to help you work on really specific things and help you progress. Also a lot of them are some of my favorite tunes now - playing in the park! I still pay for premium thought bc this is a service worth paying for. You will find yourself looking forward to having a few empty moments in your day so you can mess around. Looking forward to what they keep coming up with and THANKS for making such a great app. I would like more instructional videos on exact finger placement and strumming - I think I tug a lot of my strings around and don’t know how to stop.
I like it but there’s something you need to fix
by LuxsGalaxy on 2017/11/04 16:45
I really enjoy learning from Yousician. I’m learning to play the piano at the moment. I learned from my friends and I know a lot of notes and a few songs but I want to learn the basics and try and get really good. One thing I don’t really like though is the premium thing. Like I get that people have to make a profit so you do this premium program but not everyone has the time and money to learn this. I feel like Yousician got more attention if you’d let aspiring piano players (or any instrument) learn faster and for free. Shouldn’t everyone has access to the beauty of music? I have a friend who’s been learning piano for 7 years from her teacher but she has to pay about 100 or something per lesson. So i’d much rather learn from Yousician but I can’t learn as fast and as efficiently as I’d like to because of this silly program. Maybe if you made people pay money for something else in the app like idk maybe to unlock a song you need a certain amount of points and if you don’t have enough you can pay to unlock it. Something like that. I just think that if you made it free that you’d get a lot more attention :) but that’s my opinion. I just hope you agree with me, and thanks if you read this whole thing by the way
Worth the money pays for itself in 3 lessons
by Metalmadman666 on 2018/02/06 01:40
I am a veteran musician (not a guitarist) I am a vocalist but I always had a guitar laying around, picked it up and learned a few chords but that’s it. Now in my 40’s I decided to pick up guitar a get serious. I know it’s late in life but thought it would be a great hobby away from my normal music and singing career. So I am now on week 2 of the premium version and I love it. I’ve had my guitar in my hands more in 2 weeks than the last 30yrs. I started at the very beginning to be sure not to miss a lesson, trick, or nuance, something I might have rushed or overlooked in the past. I am now at my level, comfort, challenges and knowledge where I left off years ago. I definitely have gotten better with all 3 levels “lead, knowledge and rhythm”. This app is fun and addicting. It keeps you motivated and interested in learning. Definitely worth the money it paid for itself 100 times over in the last 2 weeks compared to the cost of what a real teacher would’ve cost including the time, traveling, gas etc. I’ve tried a few guitar apps and this one is by far the most fun and a lot less frustrating than the others. Can’t wait to learn more. I’ll write another review in 3 months. 🤘💀🤘
Great app but...
by GodsGirl618 on 2018/05/19 13:08
Yousician has been an awesome app. Ive been using the app to learn both guitar and ukulele the past few weeks and have progressed fairly quickly, but not without some frustrations. Frequently the app has trouble distinguishing me from its own background track, and will fail me on a song that I am playing correctly. This forces me to go back and play the song again, usually an extra 3 or 4 times, before it will pick up enough of my playing to allow me to move on with the lesson. I also wish it would teach you a few more songs that I could play outside of the app. I have gotten through several levels on both instruments and have not really learned any songs on either. Playing along with the music during the lesson works well enough, but when you’re done with your lesson the app pretty much locks down everything, including the songs you’ve already unlocked, unless you have premium. This is new since the update, and I wish it would go back! I understand not being able to access new content outside your allotted 10/15 minutes without paying, but without being able to practice what you’ve already started working on, it really slows down progress.
Great...but
by Taegan Mae on 2018/12/29 09:36
Yousician has been really helpful in my guitar journey. I have learned a lot about the different ways to play and how to play most effectively, and sometimes it will give you a song to play as part of your lesson. Now I’m not a master guitar player, but sometimes it will tell me that I played the wrong note, when I clearly played the right one. My microphone is clearly exposed to the sound of my guitar and my guitar is fully in tune. I will pluck a string, and it will say that I got it wrong, even though I plucked the right string in the right fret. Worst of all, some lessons require you to get 100% completion on a song in order to move on and complete a skill, so sometimes I will find myself playing a song over and over and over for more time than I would like to spend perfecting every note of the song. Also, things like this can be really frustrating, I would know, and if you play a song without wearing headphones, the microphone will pick up what your speakers are spitting out and tell you that you’re wrong for every note until you wear headphones. It tells you before hand to “wear headphones for best experience” you basically have to wear headphones in order to use the app. And if you don’t have headphones with you, then you’re in quite a pickle. The app is great, but can get very frustrating.
Free version is a good learning tool
by Camdell on 2018/06/10 15:51
The free version is a good learning tool with plenty of versatility to try different instruments or styles. You do have to put up with an ad every few minutes and there’s a limit to the amount of time you can use in one day, but for beginning or casual players it’s sufficient. The paid version, however, feels like a scam. The monthly version for $20 limits you to one instrument for ad free, unlimited playing. I paid for piano for my daughter and then she got interested in the ukulele =money wasted. The annual version allows you to switch between instruments theoretically, but only if you are willing to cough up $120 up front. Worse: it’s super easy to sign up for a subscription and impossible to cancel. Signing up happens with a click of a button on the app. However, to cancel one has to sign in to iTunes and cancel the subscription. However, after attempting to do this multiple times, Yousician is still trying to charge my debit card every day. The only reason for the 3 stars is the free version. The paid version gets 1 or less! Update: customer service assured me that account had been cancelled; however, a new gift card entered in iTunes was immediately charged. It appears that we paid $20 for the ‘privilege’ of canceling the service. Funds are not refunded when you cancel. This is completely unethical business practice. Too bad because the app concept is good.
Good intentions but bad app!
by vlogbuster on 2019/05/28 00:15
I know the guitar basics like frets picks how to hold it and that. Well the app assumes the basics include all the chords! Ok so I deleted it and chose that I knew nothing. While I was learning the basics this seemed like a very good app. I was about to write a great review about it. Around the first song I realized I was playing the write note but it said I was wrong. Sometimes I was but rarely. The times I was wrong I was around a fret off. Well according to the app I was four strings off. If you play guitar you know how diffract Hi E and low E sound so I don’t know how the app mixed those two up. So every time you finish a song it gives you a ad for the premium version of this game. It’s fine to advertise on your app but after every single thing you do is far past the breaking point! You also get only 10 minutes without premium! Imagine a guitar instructor comes to your house only for ten minutes a day. And like 24 hour day not just comes at 8 on day and 5 on the other. No it’s either 24 hours or more! Remember this is just constructive criticism. Please don’t get offended by this. Here is some advice to make the app better. First only focus on one instrument. You do a mediocre job on around 6 instruments. If you just teach one instrument then it’s mediocre X 6 which would make an amazing emphasis on amazing app so please follow my advice and again this is just constructive criticism so please don’t get offended😊
Great for beginners
by PLG0624 on 2018/12/28 12:32
This app is teaching me how to play the bass guitar and if I do say so myself, I’m coming along great! It definitely does what it advertises. The fact that Yousician not only teaches me how to play, but I’m gaining physical knowledge on the actual guitar. It’s almost as if I were getting real life guitar lessons!! It is user friendly, efficient, prompt, and accurate. Couldn’t be more pleased with an app that does all that Yousician does, that’s FOR SURE! It makes it to where I enjoy the lessons. The free trial is great too because it allows the students to check out the app and see if it suits them or not. Everyone is different so, the fact that you can try Yousician absolutely free is super neat! One last thing that I have to mention; whoever thought of the “daily goal” idea when producing this app was absolutely marvelous! I think that was so cool and inspiring! I go over the daily goal of course, 😉 but when I first saw that, I thought it was awesome! So kudos on that detail. So all in all, this app is simply and purely genius. Thank you very much! After my free trial is up, I will be purchasing whatever needs purchasing. In a few weeks I’ll be able to rock out with my boyfriend and his band mates!
Makes learning fun!
by TARDISKATE on 2017/12/09 22:31
I got my first ukulele while on a cruise to Hawaii. They had fun classes onboard taught by a Hawaiian ambassador. He was such a neat fun guy and had me loving the ukulele. When I got home I wanted to learn more and found this app. This app is fun, easy to understand and has kept me loving my uke. I play daily at least 30 mins using this app. My dad uses it as well with his uke. It’s fun to see how we are progressing on our playing skills. I like how you can practice a song and slow down the tempo. I tend to start at 75% speed to kinda learn the song, cords or fretting. Then I move up in increments of 10% until I feel ready to preform the song in the actual lesson. One thing I’d suggest when using the app. Use earbuds. Sometimes if you have the app too loud it has issues hearing your instrument, if you are a soft player. Earbuds or the like, are perfect as you can clearly hear the lesson and your instrument. As for the price for premium... I think it’s very reasonable. Lessons taught in person would cost much more. Plus this app offers lessons for guitar, bass, ukulele and piano! A great bang for your buck, I’d say. Long story short, if you want to learn to play... I highly recommend this fun app.
Blessed With This App

We all know lessons can be expensive in reality. Ranging from as little as $20 to $60 PER lesson, and that’s just for beginners. So how does a blossoming musician learn without being robbed of their money and having to GO TO the lesson, and only able to practice what the trainers assign or what you can find online. To me, that doesn’t sound very convenient. The answer is simple- YOUSICIAN! They walk you through everything, giving you personalized lessons and feedback. There’s such a wide variety of songs, you can almost always find what you’re looking for! I play the guitar, and for as little as $9.99 a month, I’m able to work around my own schedule, not someone else’s to be able to learn the guitar more effectively. I can even tell the app how much time I have for the lesson, and they work with that. Again, this is an inexpensive, convenient, efficient, and effective way to learn your dream instrument. This app works for the busiest people to the people who want to spend all their time learning, and 1 lesson per week isnt cutting it. Don’t spend over a hundred dollars a month on lessons, when you have Yousician right in front of you! 👌🏻Yousician is a blessing!!!
Good tool for practice
by Bags4028 on 2019/01/04 05:31
I’m already a working musician (rhythm guitar and bass in a couple of bands), so I came to Yousician to work specifically on lead guitar skills it’s been easy to neglect. On that, it has delivered; I’m a more confident soloist than I was a year ago, with more techniques in my repertoire. This wasn’t a goal, but I’m also more comfortable playing against a click track. Bonus! A few quibbles: The app doesn’t seem to judge the quality of notes—I’ve gotten a “Perfect” for clams that I would never accept in a recording session. Some of the fingerings seem a little off, more commonly in the assigned finger than in the fret/string. I’ve occasionally gotten stuck in what feels like an endless practice loop of the same song: I think I’m done with it, and then it’s there the next time I open the app, and it must be passed before I can move on to anything else. And the synthy-ness of the arrangements can be a little annoying (though it’s probably a necessary evil to accommodate the tempo shifts). Still, this does what it says it does, and the structure really does make you practice more. I’m not sure I would make this (or any app) my only approach to learning an instrument, but it’s a great supplement.
Great app! Few minor tweaks
by gogaton on 2018/11/25 21:56
There seems to be some issue with logging in when starting up. I kept getting logged out and a couple times had to restart all progress from scratch because it didn’t save onto my account for some reason. Also, when learning the guitar, the “chord checker” trainings are WAY too strict in my opinion. One string will be only slightly not ringing out, but otherwise the chord sounds good and it won’t let me move on. That level of strictness is good for if I’m supposed to play x number of chords exactly right to move on. But when it requires a lot of chords to be played in a short amount of time and it will only accept them if each one is absolutely entirely technically perfect it’s way too difficult for a beginner. I keep getting stuck on those lessons for hours and not able to get past which is super frustrating. I know for an advanced player changing chords quickly and accurately is crucial. But as a beginner I just want confirmation that I’m doing it at lost almost totally right so I can keep learning, then I can go back and fine tune and perfect.
Premium is a bit shady
by Nate 4321 on 2018/08/30 06:28
I purchased the premium for ukulele version of this app for about $120 for the year. It’s by far the most money I’ve ever spent on an app, but it’s cheaper and more convenient than scheduled lessons so I thought why not. I feel like I’ve learned a lot from the app but recently felt cheated when in my lesson popped up a song, Brown Eyed Girl, which I was excited about because many of the songs are a bit obscure they give you to play and I knew this song. But it was just an ad for their Super Duper Premium, or whatever they call it. I don’t believe this was offered when I originally subscribed and I was under the impression I had unlimited access; it’s definitely a bit shady to change terms after a purchase has been made; it boils down to they want another $60. This begging for more money leaves me feeling cheated. I thought I was paying for ad free and yet... That said, my kids each have free accounts and get the same songs I do, but can only do a ten minute lesson instead of the unlimited time I get. That time is perfect for them. It’s a very fun app and I do feel like I’ve learned a lot, but unfortunately I still do feel a bit cheated by Yousician and probably won’t renew their premium service.
Almost good.
by Rbally10 on 2018/12/12 21:30
What the app does well, it does well. Teaching the basics to beginners, proper technique and the like. However at the door of all of that, when you’re getting into playing the songs that are available, it really loses its shine. The song list is extremely basic, I constantly find myself listening and filling in tons of blank spaces. Single note trains isn’t fun or challenging for a bass player and leads me outright frustration. Some of the best known bassists aren’t even on the playlists, aside from rhcp, and some classic players from the ages. The problem with this is while it structures the fundamentals for bass, it doesn’t teach or challenge a player into becoming an outstanding bassist that really stands out on stage. Seeing as I paid the full 180 dollars for the year subscription, I feel I have grounds to complain about this. I also recommend, if the developers even read this, to include an option to disable vocals. The singers are very jarring to listen to. A playlist of songs that are incrementally more challenging and use unorthodox Basslines is something I hope to see in the future; as it stands for bass the song choices are incredibly monotonous. I can only speak for the bass side of things.
Great Idea, Terrible Platform
by Electromagnet83 on 2018/06/29 21:52
I’m so frustrated with this program right now. I bought it because I like it but it’s extremely difficult to get the program to read all of your notes. I’m a 20 year guitar veteran who is going through everything to try and get all the gold stars before I advanced to the higher stuff. I first started out using my phone but the sound coming out of the phone conflicted with the sound going in the phone and cost a bunch of problems. So I started using headphones. This works great when you’re playing bass, there are rarely issues. But when playing guitar I’ve had to go as far as using a USB interface on my computer plugging the guitar directly into it and using the amp sounds within the program. However it regularly grinds to a halt like the audio engine can’t support it, even though I’m running it on a really good system that I custom built. There’s one particular exercise were in a matter how many times I hit this one particular low email it won’t register it. A succession of two emails and it just won’t register the second one like two out of three times. Making it impossible for me to get gold stars and making me very frustrated. I’m so mad at this program right now
Annoying bug keeps me from playing

When I first got yousician, I thought it was an amazing app and I learned how to play real fast, well in my perspective at least. Anyhow, I like being on call with people and I used to stay on call while playing in yousician, but one day an update stopped that. Basically now, anytime I try selecting a song or tuning my guitar, it says “please select an audio output” so I pick one of the following, after that it tells me that it failed. I’ve tried most of everything I could. In the end, im not able to use the app when on call, I have to end the call to play and I don’t like that. Other than this, everything is fair and amazing. I just can’t use the app as much and no longer plan on buying premium, why would I if I don’t use the app often. If I find a way around this, if it fixes, or something that allows me to use the app while on a call, I’ll gladly change my review. (Edit after response) -already contacted support after putting up this review, sadly enough after they looked into it, they said the mic won’t work with the call on, and they recommended me use the app after I’m off call... I wouldn’t be here if it was just as simple as me ending the call.
What once was a great app is now ruined
by dariusmr on 2018/12/26 03:06
I’ve virtually never written a review in my life but I felt compelled to in this situation considering how much I used to love this app. I downloaded Yousician over a year ago and was initially blown away. I used to take guitar lessons when I was much younger and the app made it so easy to pick it back up again. Lessons used to be guided with videos and your progression in technique was mapped out in a diagram that outlined what had been completed and what was yet to come. There were several other competitor apps that I considered but what really set Yousician apart was the community of shared and user created content. With recent updates to the app they’ve removed user created content wiping out 90% of their artist and song catalogue. (For those of you who don’t understand the significance of this, user created content enabled you to find virtually any song you were looking for.) After reading that “popular” songs were reserved for premium+ subscribers I upgraded only to be disappointed, again, at the lack of content. For any new users reading who have signed up since July/August, this app used to offer so much more without having to trick people into paying more for less. And what an absolute shame, it really used to be great.
Thank you.
Tab
by Dan50243 on 2017/10/30 06:39
So I downloaded this because I'm new to the ukulele (like 5 days new). I'd had pretty good practice before downloading this (I knew how to read tab and was pretty good at quickly moving between chords) the only thing that bothers me about this is when I have to play. While the bouncy ball/track aesthetic seems like a fun way to learn, to me it's just confusing and causes me to lose track of what string the ball is going to bounce on vs. where my finger is. Is there a way to convert tests/practices to regular tab rather than a track? If not please add that in. Other than that, this has been extensively helpful. *Update* I played around with it and found something similar to what's mentioned above. But not enough. It would be much more helpful if the track at least ran vertically instead of horizontally. What would be most helpful is a page showing the individual tabs with a mini track going through the them rather than laying them on a track. I imagine that'd be a hell of a lot cheaper to animate than what you guys got now.
Amazing! But one huge problem.
by tapia.angel13 on 2018/11/07 05:36
I’m willing to change this to a 5 if this gets fixed. The way it teaches is great! It pretty much makes learning music into a fun game. I was using it when I first started, it’s been 6 years and I’m starting to use it again to refine my skills. What really irritates me, are the videos. It will play for 2 seconds, until it starts stuttering and cutting out. Then I stop. Rewind. Does it over and over again. I’ve tried getting on and off different wifis, it’s not my connection. It’s always the same. I’m unable to use the videos because they’re so frustrating to try and get to speed without stopping. It gets to a point where I’m unable to actually learn anything from the videos because it won’t go on for more than 2 seconds at a time. If this gets fixed, I’d be more than pleased. But I’m super visual and I really enjoy having videos to go on top of the practices. I’m worried for when I get to the level where I actually am in real life, and to where I’m actually going to have to start learning things I don’t already know on the program.
Super helpful but incomplete.
by Alliecat03 on 2019/06/02 16:51
I decided to pick up a yousician subscription again to learn bass over the summer because I had a really good experience when I used it to learn the ukulele. It’s really helped with my technique, speed, and motivation, and I like that I can practice by myself and for as long as I want. It also has helped me learn some basic music theory that is helpful for the bass. However, coming back, it seems like the interface is a little more empty- I couldn’t find the community/fan made songs anymore? The song choices are kind of basic and lacking. I was hoping to learn some green day bass lines with yousician but it seems there is none, I assume because of copyright and ownership stuff, but it would be nice to bring back the community made/make your own tab thing. Not a big deal since you can find tabs all over the internet, but it’s helpful to use yousician since it gives real time feedback and you can slow it down to practice.
One of the best apps I’ve ever used
by Wombat3456 on 2018/09/14 04:23
I rediscovered my love for playing guitar through this app. Before, I was in a rut from not knowing what to play or do when I sat down to practice. Since using yousician however, I haven’t had this problem. It gives me plenty to work on every day, for as much as I want. Plus, with the love feedback and data it tracks, I’m able to see my progress (I’d love to see more analytics in future releases). The songs are varied, unique, and provide great foundation for playing more advanced songs you actually care about. My absolute favorite feature is the practice mode. You can slow down the tempo of anything you’re working on, to literally any speed, then yousician will automatically increase or decrease the tempo based on how well you perform. This app is well worth the money I paid for it. Stick with it, and you’ll get great returns on your investment (fun, guitar skills, and anything else that comes from playing).
Worth The Price of Admission to the World of Musicians

Started learning the guitar (classical) through Yousician four weeks ago & have progressed faster than I thought possible... Serious about learning the guitar? Want well thought-out, fun, interesting, motivating, intelligent, and logically presented lessons & information designed for individual pacing? Looked into guitar lessons but don’t have the flexibility to commit to a regular time and place on a weekly basis? Have you calculated the cost of annual guitar lessons with a professional teacher? Yousician has earned Apple’s Editors’ Choice and my recommendation because it epitomizes the power of an App: the power to teach effectively & the power to learn efficiently, entertainingly & conveniently. ...Some days I practice for 10 minutes & others I practice for over an hour. Yousician allows you to cater your lessons to your schedule. Yes, for an app it initially seems to have a high price but the annual subscription equates to less than 4 one hour lessons with a good professional guitar teacher & you can learn at the pace your sore fingertips allow. Whether I practice for 10 minutes or an hour, Yousician has proven to represent a great investment towards reaching my guitar playing goals. I also plan to Yousician some piano skills soon. Yousician: well worth the price of admission to join the world of musicians. Not affiliated with the creators — just an avid and appreciative Youser;-)
This app is amazing, with room to improve
by Batcat43 on 2018/10/12 15:14
I'm an absolute music beginner and I have been using Yousician for guitar for about a month. I live the app and feel like I'm making real progress. Practice mode is very helpful for slowing down the tempo, honing in on the trickiest parts of a song, and repetition. The lessons are well-designed and the feedback is genuinely motivating. Hearing the Aussie accented "instructor" compliment me on my performance is surprisingly uplifting. A couple areas for potential improvement: first, I'd love to be able to print out the guitar tabs so I could practice offline and get used to reading tabulature in non-electronic format. Second, I wish I could have another family on my account, but with separate profiles so we could both be learning at our own pace, even if it required a small upcharge. And hopefully Yousician will continue to be able to license more and more well known songs to add to the fun.
Good idea, but not executed properly.
by cuckoofish03 on 2017/09/30 19:57
This app is such a great idea, and I’m so glad it’s mostly free, but there’s a huge difference between the lesson and the test. How frustrating is it when you know the material and do well at playing it and then you take the test and it’s completely different and much more complicated? It’s very frustrating. That’s what Yousician does. The lessons will give you a few chords to play and they’ll slow down the song for you when you are tested at the end of the lesson, but when a skills test comes up, there’s no practice, slowing it down, pausing it, or warning as to what you will have to play. Usually these are hard and quite frankly frustrating tests that (even though they only use the things you learned) go much faster than you’re used to. Taking one of these tests usually will have you extremely frustrated or maybe in tears. Another problem: for some reason, every time I use the app, it doesn’t automatically use my iPhone microphone to pick up sounds, so when I forget to turn it on, it fails me when I play at all because it won’t pick up noise. Please fix this; it’s insanely frustrating. They also don’t teach piano chords the easier way, and even though I knew how to play chords already, since I needed to unlock newer lessons, I had to relearn them in a strange and much harder way on Yousician. Once again, it’s such a great idea and has been pretty helpful in learning piano, but there are some big problems in the way of success.
Does some things well....
by Chris1960! on 2019/03/02 14:53
It definitely teaches you to find chords and notes without looking at the fretboard because you have to follow the bouncing ball. However, I am gold through level 5 and wouldn't say I can play guitar. The knowledge path teaches you essential but very basic music theory. In the lead path it randomly throws scales at you without much explanation. The video game like play is good and bad. The good is that it gives you a feeling that you are progressing and you are but you can’t rely on it alone to teach you. It's more like harder and harder exercises so you have to supplement it with some other type of learning. It's not perfect in hearing what you are playing which can be frustrating. One last thing: transcribe and learn some songs and try to play them without following the ball. This will improve your timing and simulate real world playing. All in all it's one of the best apps I've tried but mix it up with something else like GuitarTricks.
No app cares less about its users
by jqlogic on 2019/01/23 01:45
I’ve used this app for almost a year, paying an annual subscription for the highest level of functionality. It could be amazing. But the general pattern has been to remove functionality again and again, in particular the ability to create and practice your own songs, with no communication at all to the end user. I spent many hours laboriously keying in songs I wanted to practice into Yousician. I even bought a special program (guitar pro) just in order to get my songs on the Yousician platform so I could practice them. Then one day, poof — Yousician deleted every single one of my songs. No explanation offered. I emailed to ask whether my songs would ever come back. No response. From an app I’m paying over $100 a year to use. It’s hard to explain how it feels to have songs you have spent dozens of hours practicing just deleted one day, with no comment. All the stats, and the metrics you were using to progress—gone. The level of disregard Yousician has for its users is truly shocking. It’s not hard to keep an open line of communication with your users, but Yousician doesn’t bother.
Good at teaching, bad at being user friendly
by 1930768427584348 on 2018/09/30 00:18
My main complaint with this is just how often there is an ad to use the “pro version” or whatever. Practice times are very short, so having constant reminders that if i fork over money, i can play as long as i want is really annoying. I’m not paying $15 per month, that’s way too much for what it’s worth, so stop cramming it in my face . I don’t mind the suggestion of a pro version, but just do it once when the session is over. The app itself though, is definitely pretty good, it teaches well and has a pleasant user face. HOWEVER, it’s not $15 good. The price is especially a rip off if you only plan on learning 1 instrument, $10 for one instrument is outrageous. If i were learning from an actual person that sat right next to me and taught me how to play, then that would be more reasonable, but it’s not, it’s an app on your phone. Maybe if the app itself costed a flat rate of $15 then it would be okay, but 15 a month is dumb. I could go get lunch twice for $15.
Everything and more... except my songs
by sethy effey on 2019/01/02 20:24
Yousician will definitely help learning the guitar. Weather its chords riffs or just a standard D# you will progress prominently. However, due to what I could only guess is an inclusive ratio of programmers to musicians, yousician has a very bland palate of available music. I never could find a song I really wanted to learn to play, even though my progression with yousician has taught me enough to play a few of my favorites by myself, as well as come up with a few of my own riffs and tabs, I had to learn quite a lot before I was able to play with out staring at chords or using an app to chart my songs, although no one said the guitar is easy to learn. All in all this apps is one of the best mobile tutors I have found to date and would have received the 5th star if a better selection of music had been available to learn with
Love this.
by Rag3B00n on 2017/12/28 14:09
I love learning from this app! I have always wanted to learn piano since being taught a few little catchy tunes from a childhood friends mom. With Yousician I can truly learn at my own pace and in my own space. I love how you get pats on the back even little awards online it really keeps the spirits up. I must admit the puzzles can sometimes be frustrating even make you furious at times with frustration. I saw the pitch puzzles and thought oh this is hard and would get upset and think this is stupid it isn’t even really teaching me to play. I tell you though sure enough I was totally wrong I surprised myself being able to tell pitches even the slightest differences in pitch and because of that it has really helped me. Not to drag this on but don’t give up every little obstacle that is presented to you is there to make you better. You can even surprise yourself!
If you need something to get you started on playing string instruments, this app may not be for you.
by Myself11223344556677889900 on 2018/06/09 00:01
From a personal experience in learning different instruments, it is always a better option to have an actual person help you. This app is okay if you need to learn the very basics but it’s not gonna help you get good with an instrument. It is far better to go to someone who could actually teach you like a music tutor, a friend, or someone local that knows how to play a string instrument like at a church or a band teacher. Someone who can teach you is far better than an app that doesn’t really help you much. I have had a lot of trouble with this app when trying to learn how to play bass. Sometimes when I play notes it tells me to play it says that I missed it when I clearly played a note. If you have no one that can teach you how to play a stringed instrument (which shouldn’t be hard) then use this app. But don’t think you will start playing like jimmy Hendrix in a few months.
No more regrets for never learning piano
by T$Valhalla on 2019/03/28 01:29
I have used Yousician every day for almost a year. I have found their very simple reward system and leveling up to be great motivators to practice and hone skills. I'm really impressed with my ability so far to casually play piano along with popular songs on the radio. I'm sure you could start from scratch with this app, but I do believe my years of previous music lessons (not piano) helped me speed through lower levels quicker which greatly reduced any frustration I might have experienced. My only musical issue is that I believe the method of following along and playing to a song cheats the actual learned ability to read rhythm. I need outside practice for learning to better read rhythm, but that's a small issue because lots of practice is necessary regardless. Other than that, this app is terrific and well worth its price!
Worth it!
by jrob49 on 2018/12/17 02:43
If you’re looking to learn and self teaching just isn’t working for you then this app is a great tool. I’m using it for guitar and if I’m being honest this isn’t my first time trying yousician. I think the problem initially was that my fingers couldn’t keep up with my desire to practice. They would hurt too much and so I wasn’t pressing down on the strings hard enough. This lead to me not playing to chords or strings correctly and I blamed the app undeservingly. It not only explains the information very clearly but also is extremely helpful with getting you to play daily and more often. Its a great tool to get you the basics, practice, accuracy, and dexterity you need to aid in your own self teaching. After just two days of using the app i noticed my play and chord transition was much better on the songs I was self teaching myself. Check it out!
Service was not available.

I enjoyed Yousician a lot before I tried upgrading my plan to Premium +. Customer service was responsive but not helpful at all. I still can’t believe they can’t upgrade my plan on their end with proof of purchase. Here is detail for those wonder. I purchased the plan, but I couldn’t access the contents from both desktop and iOS devices. I checked my subscription plan to reassure and my bank account to see if the purchase went through. I found no problem there. So I began emailing Yousician support with screenshots of my end, yet the response was same: we didn’t receive information from iTunes, we can’t upgrade your plan, and please contact Apple support although I contacted Apple support with that matter. Now they request me to do refund through Apple support. What I can’t understand is, if they can’t help upgrading their service, and I have to go through Apple Support on everything for their plan, they shouldn’t call themselves support center. I needed support on something on their service, they couldn’t do it and I cannot use their service.
Great app for anyone learning a new instrument
by mynamesmemo on 2019/03/31 04:01
Ive learned many different instruments on my own, drums, piano, and quite a few brass instruments and I know the hardest hurdle is the beginning. Recently decided to pick up my first stringed instrument the ukelele and I was nervous going into the app, saw they offered a free 14 day trial so I gave it a shot. The lessons are thorough and you constantly revisit things youve done which is great to build up that muscle memory. They have video lessons explaining each section you're going to cover. Honestly wish I had the money to pay for the year for premium plus but life has it’s own way of forcing priorities with cost. Once I’m able to I’m planning on buying it. Just wish they had cheaper options that teach only one instrument but that’s literally my only complaint. I never leave reviews on apps so you know I mean it.
Inspiration!
by Chewee🕊 on 2018/07/20 01:49
So, it all started when my friend was in guitar class and I thought me and her could play together in the same class, so I got accepted and right after my mom bought me an acoustic guitar and then the days had shifted to Thursday which both my parents were working so I couldn’t go....I didn’t know how to play or tune it (it sounded so terrible) so my guitar was sitting in my closet for 2 and a half YEARS! And I always thought to learn guitar I’d have to pay money and get a class but then I was staring at my guitar and I thought could there be a tuning app?? And that’s when I found GuitarTuna I tuned it sounded soOo much better! Then I thought again.. could there be a guitar teaching app then I found YOUSICIAN! For a year now, not very persistent but level 2 and learned chords (G,C,Am,E,Em,D, about to learn A) my life is so much brighter! (12 years old) Thanks so much for reading this!
Good, but ...
by AndreasEdlef_DK on 2017/12/27 15:50
Although the app isn’t perfect and it can be a real pain sometimes, it has definitely helped me become a better ukulele player. With the latest update I am completely unable to play any songs (even the ones I’ve unlocked!!!) after my free lesson time is up. This has never been a problem before, but now I’m forced to upgrade to premium to be able to use the app at all once my 10-15 minutes a day are used up. That’s a real pain, and extremely discouraging, and doesn’t exactly make me consider opting in for premium. In fact it’s pushing me more towards deleting the app! I don’t want this to discourage others though. There’s huge potential here and I think premium will be more than worth investing in someday, but not quite yet. I wasn’t planning on leaving a review but my frustration with the app is what got me to this point. Hopefully this “feature” will be revoked in the next update because I’ve had this app for a year or two and it hasn’t happened prior to the most recent update.
Wow. Yousician makes learning fun!
by dave9921 on 2017/11/19 23:43
I'm learning how to play bass guitar and this has been the best tool I've found by far. I tried one-on-one lessons for a while but was having way more fun and making way more progress with Yousician. I signed up for the premium service for 12 months (which was less than a month worth of lessons) and I play it almost every day. There are little snags, of course but they are never more than an inconvenience that is almost always resolved by rebooting the iPad. Otherwise it is flawless and I truly look forward to advancing to the next song, the next skill, and the next level. Special thanks to the crew at Yousician for constantly adding fun and challenging new songs. Thanks also to the other Yousician users who add great popular songs to the available tracks. Please keep 'me coming!
Try before you buy?
by Nessa1380 on 2019/06/12 01:27
I downloaded this because the most recent reviews suggested you could use it for a couple minutes each day for free. Reading the reviews about how impossible it was to cancel a subscription (and that all subscriptions were for a full year) I was not and am not willing to risk the free trial (even if I’m sure Apple has my back) - but even a few minutes a day would be enough to tell me if it was worth it. Ukelele underground is great, but this had the added benefit of being able to brush up on my piano as well down the line. Well, I played through the first lesson - and now nothing. It’s been three days, but no new guided lessons. Can’t go further on the ‘learn’ option. Can’t even go back to other stuff. Everything leads me to them asking me to sign up for premium. I get it. You need to make money. I’m willing to give you mine. But only if you show me it worth it. And without holding my bank account hostage in the process. Too bad. People I know who previously had it said it was a good deal. The underground it is. :/
I wish there was better feedback
by Luna3000 on 2018/07/23 03:55
I have the subscription, and I quite like the app, but I’m finding the feedback system frustrating. When you get a note and it turns green, it gives you a tiny little word to tell you “late”, “early”, “great” or “perfect!” Which I can only read on the base clef because they appear on the blue background and not the white, and only if I lean WAY in. I would like that feedback to be someplace I can always read it. Maybe even in a larger font. More frustrating (I have rage quit a few times because of this) when you miss a note there is no feedback at all. It’s just red. I can’t tell if it’s because it didn’t hear the right note, or if I was too late or too early. If nothing else I would like that to be changed. Otherwise this app is worth 5 stars. I love the lessons and the different tracks you can take. Even the goofy songs to help you remember stuff like sharps go up and flats go down.
Great App But...
by Erick Daniel Torres on 2018/07/18 03:27
This app is great for any experienced or new players of guitar or any of the selected instruments, i have this app now for a couple months now and I’ve been really learning a lot with the guitar. There was one thing I really like the app after an update where the menu has changed everything as it looks now and there was a variety of songs created by other players using Yousician which I loved about it, but then another update came in and started to remove people’s songs from the “Home” section and Yousician started to add their own songs which I didn’t mind and then a recent update came in and now all the sections have songs from Yousician there’s no songs from other people. If Yousician reading this, then would you mind if you can add a variety of songs by different creators than just Yousician itself from the “Home” section. Thanks.
Great app but there are glitches...
by I think I'm sick......... on 2019/06/18 15:42
I was using this app for about a month to learn piano and guitar when I decided to try out the singing course. Whenever I opened up a lesson where I actually had to sing, it would start randomly playing from my phone. Every time I tried to pause the music, it would just resume when I started the lesson again. This only happened with the singing and not the other courses that I’ve worked with. If this is an app issue, please fix it. There are also glitches with the lesson time. I’ll be doing my piano lessons and it says I’ve run out of time. I looked over and I only had 8/10 minutes. I know that other people have had this issue so please fix it. Other than that, it’s a really great app. I’ve only been playing piano with these lessons for about a week and I can already play some songs.
Amazing
by 0828663 on 2018/09/09 15:21
I love this app, even though it’s a bit expensive for me, a teen, to get newer songs, I can understand. You’re doing a lot for me. So, I’m thankful that I’m learning anything at all. Yousician offers a variety of instruments you can learn, and the courses are very helpful. I myself, even if it’s a little at a time, have been able to improve my singing, piano, and guitar skills. If you’re a beginner, the teach you really well. The only bugs I’m having problems with at the moment are when I’m finished with a lesson. Sometimes the continue button is unresponsive, or, when the song is loading, it’s endless; the song doesn’t load at all. Both these problems, end with me having the restart the app. Otherwise, thank you Yousician! I appreciate having the change to take lessons at home, especially since I can’t afford lessons of my own.
Good but not great
by harrybouvy on 2019/05/06 14:53
The app was really great for me at the beginning. So much so, that I paid for a Premium account pretty much out of the gate because I’m using it for both piano and ukulele. The real problem I have is with the trainers and the so-called “guided” lessons, which more and more don’t feel guided at all because you can’t really control much of anything as you go along. The speed control of the trainers should work the same way as the speed controls when you’re working on a regular song. That is, you should be able to control them. The whole turtle, cheetah, or whatever animal thing that controls your speed just isn’t helpful if you’re really not getting it at all. It pushes you along in a way that isn’t helpful. Also, I’ve been frozen on a particular level for a really long time because I’m simply not advanced enough to get through the song that YouSician is insisting I play before I can move on. I wish you would provide more ways to move forward that honors a learner’s skill level. I also really don’t like that there’s no way to look at an entire sheet of music, rather than a few measures at a time. I’d like more freedom in viewing a particular section I’m working on. So the app was really helpful when I was an absolute beginner, but now that I’m able to plunk out a few tunes, it’s starting to inhibit my learning.
Was 5 star now 3 star
by myguitarjessie on 2018/02/05 03:04
This app WAS really awesome. I started using this app less than a year ago when I bought a guitar. I wanted to learn how to play on my own since I have 4 kids and never know when I would have time. I didn’t originally realize all it offered. I started with looking up simple songs to play. Then I started doing the lessons. I learned so much. I am on the 3rd level......but recently I updated the app and now it only allows me to take a 10 min lesson/play time. Before I would take my lesson and then continue with practicing songs as long as I wanted. It allowed me to improve faster and I really enjoyed it. Now that I only have 10 min a day I don’t feel like I can practice enough to move along. The next day I feel like I lost my momentum. Yes I could pay for the premium package but it is $120. No thanks. I really hope they switch back to unlimited practice time. It was way less frustrating.
Decent, but infuriating sometimes.
by HighvVoltage on 2018/10/29 01:43
LEt me just say, I already am fluent at piano and violin AND the trumpet. This app is great for beginners. Not for people who actually wanna get good at the instrument. Not sure if the makers are actually musicians and they just hired the guy in the videos. I said this because they apparently think telling someone to go ultra fast on a thing they learned like 10 minutes ago means they mastered it . HUR DUR FAST MEANS GOOD. Is a short explanation of what I think is happening here. By the way, good luck playing a song that has mostly e major. Yousician decides that even though you play the e major correctly, they say, screw you. Because I don't even move my hand or the way I strum and sometimes it's right, sometimes not. Most of the time it's not. Edit: made my way to a certain part in the rhythm or whatever and it won't register the 5. this app litterly cannot register acoustic guitar on the g string. It even failed to register an open note on the g string. I turn the g string using their own tuning app also multiple times.

My daughter and I am taking ukulele lessons and this app is great for our practice. It corrects us when our fingers are misplaced and helps us to tune our instruments. My other daughter is going to use it for guitar. Love it.

I’ve struggled for years to find a way to learn the guitar while maintaining a hectic schedule. I finally found a way to help me learn the guitar on my schedule and with a sense of accomplishment along the way.
It really works

WATCH OUT!

I recently picked up guitar and bass. This app is a great teacher, but I wish it had more of the songs from the 60’s and 70’s. It does occasionally miss the note I play and counts it as incorrect when I know it was spot on, but not very often. I will keep using it to learn.

Makes learning and playing fun and exciting especially when you mostly have to practice by yourself.

by Mack0808 on 2019/06/21 02:17
I really like this app so far but my biggest gripe with it is not being able to set up different profiles for my kids and I.

Frustrating App
by jhfhfudhfh on 2019/06/20 23:18
I downloaded the free version. Once it takes you to the free lesson it attempts to guide you through the different chords. However, at several points it stops and asks to continue playing the chords but it ends up pausing the lesson. It doesn’t matter how fat or skinny your fingers are, it continues to pause the lesson. I brought my 5 year old with smaller fingers and same issue. Glad I didn’t spend money for the paid version. Uninstalling as soon as I finish this review.

I absolutely love this app!
by 8Pat7 on 2018/03/21 06:26
I have the subscription for the guitar.
So so enjoyable and helpful
by windfieldz on 2019/02/18 18:15
I can’t recommend Yousician enough.

Blessed With This App
by Lalaallaly on 2018/01/17 03:31
We all know lessons can be expensive in reality.

Thank you.
Tab
by Dan50243 on 2017/10/30 06:39
So I downloaded this because I'm new to the ukulele (like 5 days new).
Worth The Price of Admission to the World of Musicians
by MrGetz on 2018/03/20 15:24
Started learning the guitar (classical) through Yousician four weeks ago & have progressed faster than I thought possible...

All in all this apps is one of the best mobile tutors I have found to date and would have received the 5th star if a better selection of music had been available to learn with
Love this.

Worth it!
