Replacing Adobe Lightroom with this
by CaptHarlock on 2020/08/08 14:51
Very capable photo editing app at a reasonable yearly subscription rate. I’m getting myself out of the expensive Adobe universe and this is a good option for an in-phone photo editor. It’s missing a few adjustments like “Clarity” and “Dehaze” that I’ve used frequently enough to miss but you can create those effects yourself with the included adjustments. And then save them as your own presets. The one adjustment I would like to see improved in Darkroom is the curves. The adjustments are locked at 5 percentage points (at least that’s how it seems to me) where other photo apps allow you to add and move the points to different percentages.
Excellent iOS Photo Editor
by KeithShepard on 2020/08/07 17:28
Excellent app. It would be nice if they refreshed some of the stock filters and added Clarity, but outside of that, this is a superb companion for Instagram.
The Needs spot, blemish remover
by Chicolaw100 on 2020/08/06 02:53
if the app had a spot or blemish remover, it would be the only photo editor I use. Please add this to the app.
Weird
by ILikeApps333 on 2020/08/05 21:58
So the app is called Darkroom, has no functionality unless you subscribe to Darkroom+? Seems weird.
Crashes Constantly
by Imaintblack on 2020/08/05 14:23
It’s a fairly decent photo editing app, has everything you need comparable to Photoshop or Lightroom. My only and main issue is that it constantly crashes on me in the middle of working on something.
A powerhouse /game changer for photo and video!
by Mike_J618 on 2020/08/05 05:25
As someone who’s big into mobile photography & videography, I can honestly say this app is a match made in heaven for editing my photos and vids for social media. I’ve used other apps in the past for touching up and editing but it’s something about Darkroom that the other apps can’t replicate. It’s a must have in my mobile workflow of photo & video applications 😁
A fatal bug?
by Flea1733 on 2020/08/01 23:16
Raw files are being corrupted on import. For what ever reason when the photo is imported the resolution gets changed by itself to a pixelated mess. Completely unusable and infuriating! Never had this issue before.
Love it for it’s clarity
by this is millett on 2020/08/01 19:22
If it’s powerful app with a simple interface. A hard thing to accomplish. Quickly make dramatic edits, or subtle corrections. I have more than a dozen photo editing apps on my phone, accumulated over the years, and I’m always eager to try something new. But I always come back to Darkroom. It’s the only one on my first page of apps.
Scam
by Jimbo#53 on 2020/07/31 12:57
I had and used the app on the past, and now they want to charge me by the month or 75.00 instead of the 9.99 legacy unlock. I will be uninstalling the app and looking for an alternative.
Moved to 2 stars...
by OneCornerstone on 2020/07/26 17:48
Haven’t used DR in 2 months. Since the they’ve moved to a subscription model after already purchasing the software. As well, and the more important reason, it’s operating very slowly on my iPad. Before I could edit and batch export in minutes. Now photos take forever to load, edit previews lag, and exporting is hardly working. What’s up DR? Was so excited about the app originally.
i use it a lot!
by sekaifilm on 2020/07/22 12:34
the layout of this app is clean. combined with how stable it’s become compared to before, i’m really happy with the app and am considering a subscription in the future. i especially like the feature of adding colored frames to a picture (especially the colors that are chosen from the picture itself) and the little transitions between colors make the overall experience more clean and fun.
Amazing app.
by Mmmmaxxxx on 2020/07/21 06:35
I am a long term user of Lightroom, Photoshop, Pixelmator, and Pixelmator Pro. Each of those apps is part of my workflow on desktop. But Darkroom has become the only necessary app for my iPhone editing. It is *so* fast, *so* stable, *so* easy to use, and so incredibly beautiful ... I cannot recommend this app enough. I learned about this app from the AppStories podcast interview. I ended up paying the $50 for the lifetime unlock. It was worth it!
Am I missing something?
by ciceror on 2020/07/20 01:49
I am not sure what all the rave reviews are for. I find the built in iOS Photos edit function much easier to use for photos taken on my phone, while still producing excellent images. Maybe I am just not advanced enough to see where this app can help me.
Amazing app
by Wuploads on 2020/07/17 12:09
The app it’s amazing, it has many many tools to edit your photos and videos. My only complaint it’s that the app crash too many times when you are adding a logo to your videos, maybe the developers have any solution to this inconvenience, but overall it’s a five star app.
Dang!
by anyengwa on 2020/07/16 15:30
Words can not describe the grandeur of this app. You just need to try it for yourself and be blown!
My favorite image editor by far
by _zakray on 2020/07/16 14:44
So well laid out. The controls, export options, ability to create presets, everything is so thoughtfully done. I used to always take my point-and-shoot with me on casual trips— new between Halide and Darkroom I’m comfortable just taking my phone.
Constantly crashes
by Cpix77 on 2020/07/16 03:35
I used to love this app. Since it went to a subscription it has become really frustrating. It constantly crashes, had errors when exporting and is so slow at times. Please fix this so it can go back to being an awesome editing app. I'm a sad and frustrated user.
Slow motion video?
by Don'tWantToType on 2020/07/15 02:09
Doesn’t seem like I can edit a slow-motion video. It plays normal speed. From 240FPS to maybe 60? Not sure if I will buy this one yet. Even though I like some filters.
Crap.
by gillianraye on 2020/07/12 03:20
Honestly, this app isn’t very good. I’d rather use Kinemaster then this. There isn’t very many editing tools and you have to buy SOOO many things for it to be good. I’m not gonna waste money on this. If you want this to be decent maybe make just the app cost like 3$ and get everything instead of having a subscription. I was very dissatisfied by the layout and the lack of creativity. I will never use this app again.
Video color grading
by AnthonyW_88 on 2020/07/12 03:11
This app is easy to use and especially handy if you use the moment app for shooting photos and videos. I actually color grade my iPhone video with Darkroom before editing it in lumafusion projects. No lie this might just be the best editor for ios
Subscription... no!
by Thermionicist on 2020/07/11 21:17
The app actually requires you to purchase a subscription. I will not use software that charges on the subscription model. Period.
New Update Pauses Music!
by ThatdBeRad on 2020/07/10 18:38
A great all in one mobile editing app, works great on iPhone or iPad. But a recent update loves to pause my music. Really not going to use it if I interferes with other apps!
Amazing.
by R_Schof123 on 2020/07/10 18:34
Darkroom is amazing and everyone who wants a good editing app should get this. It is super easy and completely free. I do recommend this.
Great App
by expensive_news on 2020/07/09 05:05
Gave it 4 stars because of the occasional crashes, other than that it has been fantastic! Glad I got it before they switched to a subscription model, and thankful that they will continue to give me the updates regardless.
I’ll stick with LR
by photoman60 on 2020/07/08 00:01
Underwhelming to say the least. I am not certain how some refer to this as a ”pro” photo app. No clone/heal or De-noise tools and so on. One positive point is the ability to access my files an are which many of the 3rd party developers drop the ball. Perhaps in another year or so if some these issues are addressed and more functionality is added I’ll revisit Darkroom.
2 stars for no selective editing vs price
by stevey500 on 2020/07/05 09:02
For the price being asked, I’d figure selective editing/masks etc would be a function. Makes Snapseed or the $6 picsay Pro Android app look incredible. Pass.
Asked for subscription payment immediately
by macluddite on 2020/07/04 16:59
Geez, at least let me try it first. Deleted app.
Solid RAW editor, but missing some essential features
by tyler jw on 2020/07/03 19:37
I’ve been using Dark Room since it was first released. At first it seemed like a novelty, editing RAW files on an iPhone?! The app has made incredible leaps since then, I especially like the ability to edit the foreground and background separately when a depth mask is found in the photo. It’s great to see features like this, I’ve yet to find one in competing products. But the lack of a white balance tool means I can’t start my editing with Dark Room. That’s table stakes for a RAW editor, it’s omission is still a head scratcher to me.
Buyer beware!
by A Kirby on 2020/07/03 14:12
Wanted to try the app before I chose to buy it for the 19.99 subscription. Chnged my mind cause I didn’t like the app so went to cancel it before it charged my card. Went to the help center and was not able to get into my iTunes account and change it. Emailed the app for help and no reply. Waiting for a refund from Apple now. Shady service. Would NOT recommend!
First timer dyi
by SAMVVELLL on 2020/07/03 09:44
First time in pro already. At least printing regards. This is amazing. Than you.
Spendy subscription and you can’t even edit video clips
by evanovich555 on 2020/07/01 21:12
Only crop and color grading with and handful of lackluster filters. Sure, its a nice ui and ux, but with all my other current app subscriptions, just not worth it IMO.
Way expensive.
by gliderflyer on 2020/07/01 18:00
Nothing here worth anything close to the price. Redundant and a con.
There is no way adjust white balance
by S.till on 2020/07/01 05:30
Or that I didn’t find it.
Export file size could be better
by J_Santoyo on 2020/07/01 05:05
When exporting in PNG it mentions that the file is uncompressed. PNG is a lossless format so compressed or not it will be the same image. This results in the file being larger than it needs to be. Using GIMP on my Mac I was able to get the same file using similar settings to 4MBs when Darkroom only managed 13MBs.
free to use....not save
by TheGrafixLab516 on 2020/06/30 15:11
How did this win an award? You cant even save videos. You have to subscribe monthly or pay $50 to unlock it forever. Apple should take back that award.
So it's.. not free
by StanUlrik on 2020/06/30 11:28
You have to pay to use. I understand this but why not make it a paid app straight away? I have seen this strategy used so many times, apps that you can download for free, but as you launch it they ask you to pay. Not cool
Congratulations...
by Olcorral on 2020/06/29 14:13
On your Apple design award for 2020. Rightly so with regular updates to an outstanding editing app. Best in class.
Not free.
by Maggie0305 on 2020/06/17 23:21
An app that has only 3 days of a free trial, then make you pay for it afterwards, isn’t really free. Money hungry.
Ok
by a7sasphoto on 2020/06/13 16:48
يستحق الشراء ويدعم RAW ويدعم التحكم في السطوع والالوان وغيرها في الفيديو والصو
Clean and crisp

The Best Photo App
by Beklaus on 2020/06/11 01:54
This has been my favorite photo app since it’s release and it keeps getting better! 👏🏻
Free 3 day trail but they charged me for a whole year!!!
by Lyghtzen on 2020/06/08 22:06
I wanted to give this a try and there was a three day trail but they charged me for whole year. I purchased it and a few minutes later I cancel my subscription because it couldn’t open Fuji raw. Not sure why Apple still charged me for the whole year. The promo says cancel anytime in 3 days. Not happy with this plus it didn’t do what I wanted it to do.
Overpriced for an extremely basic editor
by Protocol7 on 2020/06/04 13:12
You can achieve 99% of the same results with the default Photos app and that doesn’t cost you a monthly or yearly subscription. I don’t know why anyone would pay money for this?
Don’t bother
by Doodlebug@52 on 2020/06/03 02:01
Nothing here that isn’t in Photos.
Subscription based model 👎👎
by s.tbn84 on 2020/05/30 19:40
For that reason alone; garbage. Decent editor, but another app that's gone the subscription route, which ultimately ends up being deleted. One-time payment apps I'm all for, but I'll never pay a subscription for a photo app. I'd say that I don't understand why developers always end up going that way eventually, but it's a rhetorical question: they're money hungry and most often their apps aren't even close to being worth a subscription model. Get real. ✌️
Slow ):
by Al H3rrer4 on 2020/05/29 23:51
Pls, fix the app, it’s very slow and got many bugs since the last update :/
Great App and Great Team
by iChris36 on 2020/05/26 23:35
I don’t use this app often, but when I do, it does what it needs. Recently, I’ve opened the app up and come across a message detailing their new subscription model. Ok, I understand. The next decade in app development will bring about mind blowing features and it’s important to have the ability to finance that. With that said, I was given two options: continue using the app with no additional cost, or subscribe for a reduced rate. Although I chose the free option, I am impressed and happy that the developers have chosen to allow the end user an option like this instead of forcing a subscription. I’m much more willing to support developers like this in the future. And if I used the app more often than I do, I likely would have gone the subscription route. It’s a great app, and I’m sure the future will be bright! Thanks for all the hard work!
I use this ALL the time
by Alilja on 2020/05/26 18:49
...and it rocks! Super easy to use but incredibly powerful. The creator clearly understands both photography and UX design and has combined them into the best photo editing app on the store.
The best image editor in iOS
by JAoThXn on 2020/05/15 01:50
I love using Dark Room to work with RAW images shot in Halide and elsewhere. The seamless integration between the two apps and the iOS photo library is incredibly well done and the addition of video editing capabilities as well is just mind blowing. Dark Room is one of the best examples of a first-class independent app. Thanks developers!
Easily my favorite editing app
by Krizzle711.........711 on 2020/05/06 19:03
I love this app. Editing pictures has been made so simple with this app and still with so many amazing features. I only have one problem and it’s just been since the last update the app won’t open for me and crashes. And just saying I would even wait a month for that to be fixed be up this app truly is that useful and great. Side note- the phone I have that I’ve experienced it crashing on is the iPhone 11. Not sure if that helps any
Great app that keeps improving
by CarterV78 on 2020/05/04 05:46
I love this app, and continue to be impressed by the developer’s improvements, it’s come a long way even in the few months I’ve had it. The only thing I really feel like I’m missing at this point is some more advanced editing controls like clarity and noise reduction, better support for RAW files, and more filter options (I still find VSCO to have better, more subtle filters). I absolutely believe it will continue to improve though, and right now this covers 90% of my editing needs. The stability and speed of the app is fantastic, batch editing is fantastic, and the design of the app is superb!
Nice photo editing tools but less presets
by hamzaazz on 2020/05/03 12:02
This photo editing app has some really nice presets and tools for editing. But the presets that are available for $49 price are a bit less. I purchased myself and unlocked darkroom all presets but I want to tell the developers to add some more presets in future. For this price they are kinda less.
Expensive for what it does.
by password user on 2020/05/01 21:53
Not much to say, when compared to the Apple editor, Snapseed, or Lightroom, not much here. Add some gradients, lens tools - dewarp the 0.5x lens, then it would have value.
Doesn’t even open
by john4890 on 2020/05/01 03:32
I heard good reviews of this app so i downloaded it to see if it can replace the other apps I use for photo editing, but I cant even start the app, crashes every time, and I have tried deleting and downloading it again. I would like to be able to use this app and try its awesome features.
Sigh... another subscription
by otterman on 2020/04/29 22:25
I rarely use Darkroom for the reasons mentioned below and the fact that a raw editor without a white balance tool is a “lite” editor. Now with a subscription it’s a “NO” editor. Original review: Wow, you guys need to clarify your TOS before I use this app again. “Posting” is pretty vague considering there’s no place I can see to post anything (in the generic online sense) to part of your “Service.” And since the Bergen.co website is parked it’s not clear that you even have other “Services.” Basically, am I giving you a limitless license to my photos just by editing them in Darkroom? I doubt it, but it’s not clear enough for me to want to use the app at this point. I just want to edit my photos without them showing up on a bus shelter ad a year from now (not that they’re that great) without my permission, thanks to the TOS. Also FYI, your Privacy Policy mentions “user content” a number of times, but never defines it.
Shadow filter nothing like Apple
by SIG TN on 2020/04/29 01:15
I am very disappointed in the darkroom shadow filter which is nowhere near the quality of the Apple camera shadow filter. I was very excited about the batch feature to be able to copy an edit to other photos which would have saved me a lot of time. The issue is once I tried the shadow filter, I can not use it due to quality. Please please please improve to implanted the Apple shadow filter quality & I will be one Very happy customer who has paid life time subscription.
Subscription based - I’m not a fan
by Phuoc-SD on 2020/04/27 06:09
The software looks promising but I deleted it after using it for about 10 minutes. To access useful features like curves, you’ll have to subscribe for a monthly fee. I’m not a fan of that model and there are plenty of editors out there you can just buy outright I don’t see a need to subscribe. The UI looks decent enough but the business model leaves a bad taste for me. So the app is deleted and I’ll vote with my wallet.
UGLY!
by Bilgisayar123 on 2020/04/27 04:31

New IOS Update prevents Darkroom from working.
by Not Happy - Rip Off on 2020/04/25 07:35
I’ve used Darkroom a lot to enhance Crime images; however, the new IOS Update is preventing it from working. Please try to solve the issue... Once fixed I’ll change to 5 Stars. Thanks.
Hello?
by ThatDudeWhoStoleYourCar on 2020/04/24 05:21

Crash app
by i_HMD_76 on 2020/04/23 18:55
Hello, the app is crushing for the last update.. Device: IPHONE 7p Version: ios 12.4
Review
by pilakw on 2020/04/02 19:38
Can’t give honest review until I try all features. Why not offer free 30 day trial. I don’t want to see automatically installed after 30 day period either. If your app is any good it will sell. Quit telling reviewers what you plan to do. You sound like my teenaged son. Show me the goods as the saying goes.
Another subscription?
by MB1742 on 2020/03/31 02:27
Good app, but going from a one time $8 payment to a $20 annual payment is pretty ridiculous. Should have at least kept it at $8 for the annual payment. You’re late to the subscription party - people have already had too much & will really have to pick & choose what apps they pay for.
Great editing, poor coding?
by jd2020 on 2020/03/29 13:07
Six updates in 14 days? Seriously... #badUX #badCode
Four updates in a week?
by ddski311 on 2020/03/28 04:43
Why. . Quality control seems lacking.... Update - I’ve lost count- has it been 2 updates in 2 days or 3 in 3? The reply is much appreciated- but the QC has now expanded to... gaming the store? Tell me why I shouldn’t delete your app.
used to be my favorite app
by Onlyoneonlywoll on 2020/03/26 19:29
i liked when i paid for everything the app was great other then it crashing all the time. now its a subscription which is a complete bummer but the app will not stop crashing. every time i open the app try to edit a photo the app crashes and makes my phone act funky super annoying!!
Incorrect black frame color
by cthuang on 2020/03/26 03:47
4.5.4 fixed the black frame export bug. ————— This old bug appeared again!! Can you fix it soon? Darkroom is really a good app. But the bug is annoying.
Bait and Switch Pricing
by J o e P h o t o on 2020/03/25 16:10
App looks great with good controls and fast to use. Image quality looks very good as well. Before downloading I saw in the in-app purchases description on App Store that it was $9.99 US to unlock everything! I was ready to jump on it. That’s an awesome price for an app of this caliber. However once open, it’s revealed that it’s actually $50, (or subscribe which is a business model I don’t support). I’m kind of upset at the false advertising. I want to support the devs and get a great iPhone editing app, but going to pass on this one. Affinity Photo, a full desktop class app, is more than 50% less, (and feature rich Procreate is a fraction of the price)! Granted they are iPad apps, but just have to bounce images to the iPad for editing. Comparing features and usability of Affinity Photo vs. Darkroom I’m disappointed with the ratio of features to asking price here... Especially after the bait and switch.
Nice but.....
by Horserious on 2020/03/25 06:58
It’s a nice app but needs a lot of work. The interface looks good, but it’s lacking a few key features such as white balance, exposure slider etc. As said, nice app but not worth the asking price of 9.99. If I apply a b&w filter and I notice that the saturation slider is set to zero, I’m out. Sorry. The idea is nice, so is the group of ppl you’re targetting I reckon. I’m not impressed by the developers answer at all. It’s not worth $9.99. What about an exposure slider, dehaze, WB, reversed vignetting, etc, etc. there are better apps for less. And if you say you enjoy this as a pro you’re not a pro. And I never said I didn’t like the app. All I say is that it’s not worth $9.99. I will be happy to give more stars if you come up with an app that’s worth the money. In other words, keep working on it and add pro tools in the future. Basic tools like exposure and white balance should be in here to start with. Then there are whites, highlights, blacks, shadows, vignette to the darken or lighten. Ah well I think you know what’s there. Oh and I have some positives too. Interface is nice, intuitive, it’s fast and frames are a nice tool too. When it comes to filters I would suggest not to put too much energy in filters. There are many (free) apps who can do the trick. And, in the bigger scheme of it all, “how many filters do we really need?”. Good luck, keep up the good work. After the latest update (new rendering engine) app the app is slooooooooooooow. Sliders are hardly responsive.
Subscriptions Are Not The Future
by Joshua D. on 2020/03/24 08:50
And all developers that peddle them are foolish and ruining the iOS App Store. Application development and sales existed for over 30 years with smart developers making sustainable profits through one-off sales of their applications. Nothing has changed since then to justify this ludicrous move to try to con customers into buying apps as services when they are truly not and never will be save for apps/services such as Netflix and its ilk. The only thing that has truly changed is the boldness of developer greed in this corrupted business world of software. You seriously are helping to ruin app sales in general, your own bottom line and most definitely the iOS ecosystem as a whole. Every excuse has been given for these greedy subscription actions and they all are the same and truly hollow and so dishonest. You think you need more money? Charge more for the initial asking price. Advertise better. Develop new applications. Yes, those latter two take money but it takes money to make money and i know you already have money. Lack of money is never the need to use subscriptions, it's only greed and looking for a steady source of income without ever offering anything remotely close to warranting or justifying users paying indefinitely for a simple photo editor or something like a calculator (i've actually seen a deranged calculator app developer demanding a subscription now to add, subtract and multiply numbers, hah.) No customer can afford to pay forever on every single app they want to download. Which is why software sales were never meant to be run by subscription plans. Subscriptions are not the future. If software sales were run that way from the beginning the whole concept of buying applications would have never taken off and it would've died a much needed death instantly. Trying to turn all apps to subscription plans is simply a demented and greedy trend at the moment (promoted by Apple to increase their 30% cut exponentially) and it will die a much needed death as well soon. And i don't think it's wise as a business to be remembered as a company who dealt in these type of shady business practices. Though, that's up to you I guess, to make those bad business decisions. But, please do regale me with the dishonest reasons why you just absolutely must charge your customers indefinitely to use a photo editor. I gladly paid a one time price with my hard earned money when I thought I was buying a premium product. Had I known this developer was going to succumb to the allure and temptation of subscription plan greed and jump on this reprehensible and corrupted bandwagon. Well, it's safe to say that I never would have supported this company by buying their application in the first place had I known that information. Again, subscription plans are not the future except for apps that actually are services and this isn't one, not even close. Asking customers to pay you forever will only end up driving away potential customers who might have actually paid a one time price for this app. And it will only alienate the people who once had trust in you and paid to afford you the place you are at now. I won't be making that mistake again and in fact it's foolish and greedy actions like this that make many of us not want to buy any applications from iOS anymore, because we cannot trust premium apps to stay that way. So, you are only hurting yourselves moving to a subscription and iOS as a whole by doing this. It's too bad, though, that so few of you developers seem to grasp this fact and the basic, simple economics of business
Useful; terrific and unique Inset Width for Frame feature
by Joseph_Joseph on 2020/03/23 22:25
1 thank you for years of use and my benefit with your well designed app. Your app has helped me as a regular guy with my home pictures, not a professional in many ways. And as a volunteer to groups to post schedules and things. 2 your app is the only app, or PC edit s/w that I know of, that has the added frame width keep to the dimensions of the original picture, e.g., I add a border to an 8.5 x 11 in poster. After the frame is inserted, the resulting poster with frame is still 8.5 x 11 in. As the frame width is increased, the original image shrinks to accommodate the new width. This is ingenious - I have used this feature for years. This is the most important feature for me. Thank you! 3. I read your statement about why you are in need of a subscription. It is not easy in retirement, but your truthfulness and intent to honor past members to continue free, is a remarkably ethical character that I applaud you for, so I will likely pay the one time fee after this post to support your endeavor and to not have reoccurring fees. Healthy and Success to you and your team.

NOT ENOUGH PHOTO EDITING TOOLS
Pretty Great
by nyrb22 on 2020/03/19 20:26
I love darkroom, I’m not a pro photographer but I do like to take pictures! Darkroom allows me to edit my photos just how I want them and it lets me get creative with colors and filters too. However, I was having a problem that was quite annoying. I made my own filter and used it on an image, but when I tried to export the image with the filter, it kept telling me I couldn’t because I hadn’t bought the subscription, I didn’t use any premium features so I don’t know why I couldn’t export the picture. This happened to me multiple times, and it continues to frustrate me. Despite the fact that I kept having this problem Darkroom is a great app...it’s good for pros and non-pros. For the most part I love Darkroom, and my problem could have been user error...no one is perfect! Overall I would recommend this app to anyone who is creative and loves pictures!
Build 45100 Black Frames, Render Issue
by ajazz16 on 2020/03/16 13:19
Darkroom has become one of my favorite ways to process my photos on iPhone! Build 45100 produces black frames upon export no matter which frame color is selected. Results depend on the photo. Edited photos continuously re-render while scrolling.
Essential part of my flow...

Do not update app
by Gtsr5sej on 2020/03/15 11:58
I just updated the app to its latest version in hopes that it would stop crashing on me while editing RAW, and now it won’t even load. It crashes immediately. This app was great when I first got it, but every update just keeps getting slower and has more bugs. In its latest form it’s worthless.
Wonderful app paired with ProCamera
by mikesplaces on 2020/03/15 02:22
I really love this app. The update on 15 March adds core enhancements I cannot wait to see in action. I take photos solely with an iPhone 11 and most always take in RAW format. This app makes learning the steps to both functional and creative editing so good. I bought the subscription when launched. We have to support our developers. It’s about the long term with some apps so I personally believe that subscription services are a tool to that development. This app is a long term adoption to me. Being able to use on iPad is nice but my workflow is very simple now. Take picture with ProCamera. Edit resulting RAW files in Darkroom and share with social media, back up to google photos and have long term memories of living my retired life in Vietnam.
Best mobile app for large raw files
by Pops Green on 2020/03/09 15:33
I recent;y upgraded to a Sony a7tiv. It’s a terrific camera and shoots huge files. I prefer to shoot RAW and discovered that neither AFFINITY nor CAMERA 2 will load and/or process the large RAW files. AFFINITY will allow the files to be downloaded and developed but any further editing causes the app to freeze. CAMERA 2 wont even download the files. The adjustments in DARKROOM work easily and are intuitive.
Thank you for honoring your early supporters/customers
by CrystalPepsi on 2020/03/07 00:32
I understand that Darkroom switched to a subscription based service recently. I just want to say thank you for retaining features for existing customers who paid the one-time price. Not all companies do this so I just wanted to take time to let you know I appreciate the effort and hope to see darkroom continue to grow/improve.
I appreciate the responsibility of the Devs
by 101iT on 2020/03/06 01:52
Well... It is rarely that I write reviews on iOS soft, but I feel like I need to take a moment here to say thank you. Firstly, the app is beyond belief, you guys squeezed everything our of the iPads haha! Hear my GPU sizzling as I (on a freaking fly) render 4K 100 mb pix. Wow. I feel like my dual GPU editing rig feels more sluggish with Adobe crap than my iPad Pro. Also... thank you for the responsible switch to the subscription model and leaving the options for “one time purchase”. It doesn’t concern me, as I purchased the app way before the switch to subscription model, however, I just wanted to mention that I haven’t seen such a responsible way to do this. You guys are dope, I will continue supporting your company with pleasure!

Why must everything go through the path of subscriptions
Well crap.
by UmenoHana on 2020/02/26 18:39
Every blessed photo editor that’s any good eventually goes to subscription model. Thought this app was safe from that. Time to look for another refuge from the evil menace.
Frequent crashes
by riceguns on 2020/02/20 00:53
Great app, but crashes very frequently especially while editing raw images. IPhone 11 pro max on the lastes iOS software and i wonder if this is related to Apple's ram management or something more specific to this app.
Unfortunate.

I really enjoyed using this app but I can’t see myself adding another subscription service. Deleted.

by M.S.H. on 2020/02/14 11:05
Well, you got me — or actually you didn’t. I had recently found this app and was on the verge of buying... so I downloaded the latest update, only to discover it switched to a subscription — and I didn’t see that advertised anywhere before downloading. But shame on me. Still, I am amazed that so many app developers think nothing of isolating their users to squeeze more cash out of a ever dwindling minority of them. Whatever — good luck, but I (and I suspect a whole lot of others) are out. Sure, one subscription won’t break the bank, but we are dealing with literally dozens upon dozens now, and that just isn’t feasible. Apple, you are letting (or forcing) the iOS ecosystem to collapse!
Another awful subscription
by ImaigngInsider on 2020/02/14 07:46
Subscriptions are not cheap. They add up. This one is no exception. Darkroom app just got deleted from this user. Plenty of other more serious robust photo app options out there.

2/13/2020 Another update featuring a couple of obscure, seldom-needed feature, yet still no white balance control, which is an essential, basic image editing function. —————————- I downloaded this app long ago and was impressed by the nice interface and many of its features. I was totally shocked that it lacked basic editing looks such as white balance, but the developers said that was high in their list. Fast forward several months and still no white balance. Still no exposure slider or anything like a dejase control. What’s the deal? I don’t like jumping back and forth between multiple editing apps. And I like even less having to pay for multiple apps in the same category. I’m sorry but I find it cringeworthy to see a photo editing app with a huge selection of (to me, useless) filters while lacking basic editing tools that I need for virtually every photo I edit. Cmon guys, at least give us an estimated roadmap for when these critical features will finally be added.

Subscription Nonsense
by wraithequestrain on 2020/02/12 22:43
I don’t want to rent my software. This subscription bait and switch raises prices sharply and is completely anti-user. What happens when I stop paying? Why can’t I continue to use what I’ve already paid for when I stop paying? What happens is the developer doesn’t update the app and continues to take money? Renting software is nothing but customer-hostile.

Lot to like but stability is meh...
by dk3454 on 2020/02/11 08:15
I recently bought a mirrorless camera and was searching for a good RAW image editor. After reading the reviews, decided on Darkroom. Lots to use and work with, but of a learning curve but I expected that. Sliders are awesome. However it crashes repeatedly when working with a photo. I have the latest ipad and updated ipados, yet it can't keep working for more than a few edits or filters before it crashes. I will delete and look for something else. Disappointing.
Very Displeased
by Flemuel on 2020/02/08 16:17
I just discovered that this app has the ability to delete photos from my library. On any touch sensitive device THINGS HAPPEN! Only the Apple Photos app should be able to delete any photo. I am, therefore, deleting the app. Having received an explanatory and defensive note frim the developer in response to my own comments: To my knowledge, no other app allows me this potentially disastrous option. I will not change my rating or continue using this app.
Unstable = unuseful

Unstable on an iPad Pro. Keeps crashing when editing raw files from Halide.
Great features but unstable
by CERDABOI on 2019/08/30 18:11
Although there are no selective editing brushes, Darkroom is probably the only editor with this many editing tools that allows you to batch edit on mobile. The only thing that’s missing is some stability. It always crashes on my 5th gen iPad mini. The only things I would improve is the stability of app itself, the grain feature, because the grain gets wayyy to gritty, and a noise reduction feature. Honestly I think noise reduction would be more important than a selective brush. I could use Darkoom for event photo editing, where I barely finding myself using the selective brush, but then that leaves out a trusty noise reduction feature so I feel like it really limits my options when it comes to picking a project to edit with this app. I would still rather stick to doing the majority of my editing with Lightroom. This app came very close to opening up my workflow but that one feature of noise reduction missing is a deal breaker for me.
Screenshots are pictures too
by Brandon_219 on 2019/09/14 08:10
If I could add one advanced feature it would be spot-selected white balance, but I'm content with the controls for the most part. If I could add one basic feature that really shouldn't be an issue, though, it'd be to import screenshots. Why the hell are screenshots excluded? I have this near-perfect photo editor and can't edit 1/4 of my photos. I know screenshots aren't ideal for printing but they're good for testing crops and testing edits of photos, the latter I can't do without making copies of photos thanks to this app's strange limitation. Yes I can test edits on a single image but I would have to note and undo every edit to try the next. It just seems so much more inefficient than simply allowing screenshots to be edited. Edit: added one star. It's good that screenshots aren't completely excluded, but I still wish they appeared in albums like normal photos do. In an attempt to declutter, per developer's response, I feel like they've actually created more clutter in making screenshots harder to navigate and cause needless frustration by making them disappear from albums they're in. If you want to declutter the normal camera roll, that's fine, but favorites and other albums should be left alone.
Very useful even for Pros
by Besdayz on 2019/02/15 08:30
I use this app when I want to import dslr images (via google drive or canon) to my iphone and display these images on social media or photo share. Obviously I won’t be printing from iPhone files since it’s smaller resolution files. For pro work I would use the real file on my computer and adobe products to edit. But for a quick edit with some nice filters curves perspective cropping and sending previews to clients or even personal use this works well. What I really like is I don’t have to save as a edited image and duplicate files since all edits are non destructive and can easily revert to originals. My suggestion for the developers would be people like me would love more functionality that more closely resembles what I can do on Lightroom or photoshop. I know that means more cost but off top of my head I would really like things like 1) stitching images for panoramas 2) focus stacking 3) spot removal (brush tool) 4) masks (for local edits) 5) hdr 6) more filters esp for B&W. I would pay for these. Carbon has some good ones. 7) Gaussian blurs 8) gradients 9) selective coloring (making eyes whiter, teeth whiter etc) I realize this may be a sophisticated set of functions for a mobile app but hopefully in future it is available.
Crashes when zooming in on raw photos 😣
by papaSnoot on 2018/12/22 12:16
Let me start by saying that I really WANT to love darkroom. It is tightly integrated with halide and other camera apps, and the amount of control available in the app is amazing. I also love that you can super easily switch between raw and other versions of your pics. So the reason I just can’t love this app is because for me it is unusable. I am using halide to shoot raw photos and when I edit them in darkroom as soon as I zoom in close on a raw photo and try to pan the view, the app crashes. This happened every time with any raw photo weather it was shot on halide or another iPhone app, or shot on my Sony a6300 and imported through photos app. I have tried deleting the app and rebooting then reinstalling but it just does the same thing with raw photos. Very disappointed. Hope the devs can fix this soon else I really can’t use the program. If this gets fixed it’s easily a 5 star rating!!
Reading the reviews...
by COLORADOAPPUSER on 2019/05/24 13:42
I’ve just downloaded this to try it out. But let me say after reading the responses by the developers to some of the reviews I’m hesitant to put money towards the app. My question, why come across as offensive and upset whenever anyone gives you less than all stars and makes suggestions? Apple, how can you continually highlight this app when you see some of the responses by the developers? You continually suggest you aren’t a pro app, only a team of two etc. That’s fine, then I would suggest making the price less, or even free, until it’s fully ready and it might help you build a loyal following. Most would consider that price point to have a fully polished app ready to work in every way. Just don’t be offended when people who really care make suggestions. By the way I rarely review, this just really caught me by surprise. Not a good way to build loyalty with your brand. Accept the criticism and use it to get better...

Useful; terrific and unique Inset Width for Frame feature

Restored previous purchases
by thinkman on 2018/04/02 12:59
Not the most intuitive means of restoring previous purchases but FINALLY found the settings menu and now all is well. 3 stars because this should also be a full resolution iPad app. Take care of that and this review goes to 5 stars. After the developer responded to my 3 star review saying “Apple doesn’t make it very easy for us to restore purchases……”, I have to add that this has never been case with other Apps – in this case it was a matter of finding the settings to be able to do this. My feelings are that developers need to standardize on the look and position of the settings gear! I upped my review by a star as they noted they were working on an iPad version, even though I feel it should have been developed for that in the first place. If this happens, I’ll make it a 5 star review.
I really want to move to iPad only photo editing, this is almost the app I need
by zedkolk on 2019/04/14 05:19
I would LOVE to sell my mac and move to iPad only photo editing, but before I can do that I need an iPad app that includes the functionality I have from Lightroom Classic (Lightroom CC doesn’t have all the features I need). I found Darkroom from The Sweet Setup and its definitely the best photo editing app I’ve tried but it doesn’t quite make the move for me. I shoot primarily events and landscapes, sometimes portraits. Required (for me) features that this app does have: RAW support Custom filters Paste edits across multiple photos (the batch edit feature wasn’t working for me, I wish it did) Batch exports iCloud Photos support Ability to tap to change adjustments instead of drag a slider Required features that are missing (or I can’t find): Brushes (for highlights, shadows, saturation, etc...) Spot healing brush or repair tool (I forgot what Lightroom calls it, the shortcut is Q) Wishlist that isn’t a dealbreaker: Dropbox support Ability to view iCloud photos with the date added view in addition to the chronological view What’s nice but isn’t a required for me: Modify copyright metadata on export Favoriting an image in Darkroom also favorites it in Photos
RAW editing needs improvements
by masnun on 2019/03/10 01:42
This is a great app. I love the UI and UX. Love the integration with Halide. The filters are great. Copy hashtag feature is absolutely great - love it. But what I think needs more work is raw editing features. The photos are underexposed sometimes. Even after increasing exposure and brightness, they remain underexposed. With Adobe Lightroom, the same photo gets a lot of light when I move up exposure a bit. This is my only issue with the app. I am quite fine with it missing some other useful features like selective editing. Darkroom in app purchase is a one time thing, so compared to Lightroom, Darkroom definitely offers better value at a lower price. If the under exposure issue is fixed, I will continue using Darkroom for almost all my photo editing.
Very Misleading
by mDevereaux on 2019/08/23 03:14
To be clear, downloading the app is free. “Trying” is it free. But you can’t export anything unless you pay for the app so I feel it’s very misleading to advertise that it’s free. The developer should clearly state upfront that if you actually want to use the app - as in make edits and download the final image - that the user has to pay. I understand the premise of try before you buy but that’s wasn’t clear from what I read. I also find it odd that no matter what edits you make, even simple edits, you still can’t export the image. Most freemium apps allow some free options. That said, the app seems to have a lot of nice editing features. From a usability standpoint, sliders that have a generous margin to snap back to 0 is nice. My suggestion to the developer is to rewrite the description so it’s very clear that the app is not free.
DarkRoom
by Amherst Owens on 2019/01/30 14:22
DarkRoom is a fantastic iOS photo editing app that I have been using for a few months now. I really like the slider functions as it gives almost pinpoint accuracy over editing your photos. Also this app lets you edit Raw files as well as other more common file types. You have to buy other functions within the app, but most other notable apps like Polarr do the same. At $5.00 per unlock it can get costly. You don’t have to buy them if you don’t want to use the app and it even lets you try before you buy to see if you even want the extras. But over all its functions, and clean interface make it a wonderful photo editing app to use.
As a professional, this is my go to
by dan beltran on 2018/11/12 04:58
I absolutely love darkroom. It has all the controls I want for editing in my iPhone without getting clunky or bogged down with unnecessary extras. If I want to do complicated functions I’d do it on my computer. One request I have is to be able to reorder adjustments so for instance I could move temperature and tint up to the top. I work in Lightroom all day and it would be nice to reorder them to what’s familiar instead of hunting down the adjustment I’m looking for. Darkroom has serious updates so often I can’t imagine they aren’t already working on this, I’m sure it’s just a matter of time. Thank you for making a pro editing tool that just works.
Excellent App!
by itsmechris on 2017/12/28 09:27
I recently discovered the Darkroom App. I immediately purchased full functionality. For years, I have made “social media” posts by editing JPG files with less than ideal image quality. Frustration finally led me to search for a better option than the stock Nikon wireless mobile utility and Apple Photos on my iPhone. That’s how I came across Darkroom (and ShutterSnitch by a different developer which allows me to download RAW files in bulk off of my Nikon camera). This combination is incredible; I only wish I would have discovered it earlier. Note to developers: I just sent an email to you with a couple of suggestions that might make your 5 star app even better 😊
Great App, Developers work hard to keep it that way
by Sunflash.iph on 2018/07/18 00:19
Edit: Thank you darkroom! You fixed the problem that I mentioned in this review, glad to see that you are trying to make a great product. I added a star, cause I really do love this app, but have run into a new issue that is almost as annoying as the first. My edits do not remain on photos when I modify the original. I’ve gone back in multiple times and modified a photo, exported it to modify the original. But once I close the app it goes back to its original state. Will be glad once this is fixed! I really do love this App, makes editing a snap. The color controls are a game changer for me when it comes to editing on my phone. The one issue I have with the app, and keeping it from 5 stars is the that in the library, where I can select which photos to edit, it gets the photo is displays is different than the photo that comes up when I select it. This makes it hard to edit photos cause I’m not sure where the photo I want to edit is, I’ll find it, click on it and it’s a different photo. Fix this issue and I think it’s a 5 Star app
RAW image processing isn’t usable compared to others
by Gevork g on 2019/07/04 20:35
This app has the potential of being great. It has the library support and copying edits across many pictures by pasting. Overall the feature set is ok , but I noticed the biggest problem compared to other apps for RAW image processing. This app shows the RAW image file with muted colors and a white haze across the image. Adjustments that O make aren’t the same adjustments as in Lightroom or Affinity Photo, or even After Light 2. Is it the RAW image processing or the was it show the image? Ive tried many images back and forth with the other apps, and I cant get a desirable edit on Darkroom the way I get it on Lightroom or Affinity Photo. I cant get that crisp vibrant photo I want. The end result looks muted, off color, and not clear, with noise. I like the potential for the app, but it needs to update its RAW image processing algorithm to make it useable and on par with the other apps.

Hey dear Darkroom team, Firstly, it was a very nice experience to use your app. You know, you guys have got the best interface in a market, But I do need to ask you a question that if you want to add a precise editing feature to your app because your app has been nearly perfect except for the absence of that one little feature. And I’m really sure there are a lot of people out there who are willing to pay you for that. To be honest there are some apps which have already had this feature and charge less, but I believe Darkroom will still be the best if that feature has been added. :)
I never write reviews but...
by drk_adapt on 2018/04/16 02:55
I found myself compelled to give credit where credit is due. As an amateur photographer I found myself very impressed with the features and customizability in darkroom. I have used several photo editing apps in the past including Lightroom, VSCO cam, etc. However; this app offers the flexibility and depth where other apps fall short. Keep up the good work. If you have graduated beyond just point and click filters then seriously look into this app. I bought the one time purchase to unlock all features and have been thrilled with the results. Cheers!
Overall quite good
by TouchTodo Author on 2017/11/29 05:26
Coming from desktop raw workflow, I knew I need to give up something when comes to mobile. This app is probably as close as it gets for what’s out there. One of the key feature I’m looking for is curve, and it (kinda) has it, with fixed highlight and shadow mid point, which for the most part I’m fine with it. The problem I have with it right now, and I hope developer can fixed it in next version, is the inconsistent preview AFTER I did the editing. For couple photos the preview inside the app shows overexposed (after I choose to modify original). It constantly skews my judgement, and esp when I want to copy over edits to other photos.
Like the App Interface, good basic editing
by asteroidbooty on 2019/06/13 16:36
Lovely interface! Would like to make this my primary editing app, but there are still a few features missing (see other reviews). Overall, it has most of the things you need to edit photos quickly. The asking price for additional filters is also pretty reasonable. However, pre built filters aren't what I want most. If prioritizing new features, please work on retouch tools next and add a way to resize images easily. Edit: I would like the ability to resize photos to reduce file size for easier sharing. Also crop for upload to social media - the popular aspect ratios are 1:1 , 4:5 and 16:9. Thanks!
The Very Best
by Mad Chipmunk on 2018/10/06 13:52
UPDATE: This is still my favorite photo editor and one of my favorite apps period. The developer team continues to invest in and add useful features on a regular basis. Recent examples include iOS 12’s portrait depth map and hashtag collections. What’s equally impressive is the thoughtfulness of placement for new features. When an (any) app is new, users like it for its simplicity, but software developers have to improve it — they have to add new features. It’s hard to do that without adding tons of complexity. Darkroom hits an awesome balance. **** This is my go-to photo editor. The included filters are great. The manual controls are awesome. It's incredibly handy that you can modify the original photo. You can use the app to browse and edit photos on your camera roll: no importing. Recent improvements have improved the experience of the user interface as well. I'm really glad I paid for this one. 👍 Hey Developers! You created something pretty special. Nice work!!! 😄
Not sure if that helps any
Not sure why it took me so long...
by maax.net on 2019/09/26 10:49
I was using Snapseed as my primary editing app. This one was on the side. Woth Afterlight2. I own all three(Snapseed from the times it was a paid app) and I bought darkroom last. Now it is next to Snapseed on my main screen as the go to app. What it severely misses is the perspective tool from SS and the ability to fast apply the previous edits. It is a bit clunky at this point. The rest is epic. Batch editing, exporting as well as the ability to delete unwanted photos from the app itself. Love it. Max
Great on iPhone—iPad support?
by CdrSpock on 2018/10/05 05:34
I really enjoy using Darkroom to edit photos quickly on my phone, but I sometimes like to take all my photos from the day and edit them on my iPad. Darkroom could be really awesome on the iPad, too, but all we have access to for the moment is a scaled-up version of the phone interface, which is less than ideal. The larger screen of the iPad makes more precise editing possible, so it’s a shame I have to use different apps on each platform to take advantage of it.
Fun app
by Dave 2347 on 2019/05/26 10:47
I like this app for doing quick changes to a photo the fact that it will link and send right to Instagram and other sites is nice. The things I would like to see it do is allow you to pick just a certain spot on the photo to change and a little more control over whites. We do a lot of outdoor waterfall, lake, ocean etc shots. I would like to be able to just take a section of a bush and change to colors on it like in Lightroom. Overall a great app that I use a lot.
Great Interface, Lacking in features
by mobilephotographerdude on 2018/06/12 05:32
I’ll start by saying that this is a very well designed app. If you’re looking for quick photo editing with some creative control this definitely could work for you. However both HSL and Curves editing are accessible only through an in app purchase. The same functionality I have to say is, unfortunately for these devs, available free with Lightroom CC mobile. I also found minute changes to things like temperature or exposures difficult. While this won’t become my go-to mobile photography editor, it certainly is worth checking out for its interface.
Good but not great...yet.
by MaxxuM on 2019/10/21 00:05
Darkroom has everything I need - the only problem is it crashes very predictably. Every RAW image taken on my iPhone Xs Max will crash Darkroom on my iPad Pro 11 when I try to sharpen the image more than 50% at once. The settings are still saved, thank goodness, but it's still annoying since I have to go back and find the image I was working with. My solution is to change the sharpening some, close the image, then do it again and again until I get it where I want. There are a few other tools that do this, but sharpening is the most consistent and frustrating. Please fix this!
Impressed
by rickmurrays on 2017/09/27 00:54
Very impressed with this latest release. Tools are powerful yet easily accessible, and the latest UI skin shows a lot of attention to detail, with a few minor exceptions. The export menu is well crafted, with semi translucent dark background, nice typography, etc. However, there are a few menus, such as aspect, border and favorites, that unfortunately use the default grey iOS of old. Would be nice if these were updated to match the rest of the apps look and feel. A nitpick for sure, and certainly does not detract from the remainder of this excellent app
Only one complaint..
by JacqlynS on 2018/07/29 07:30
This app is amazing. Plenty of options to quickly make your photo look like it was taken and edited by a professional. My only complaint is that now I have to pay to get the features i once had for free... I was going to rate this app 4/5 for that reason... however it's not your guys' fault I'm a cheap 'you-know-what' lol. The price is fair, would be worth every penny. I'm just not in the position to be spending money on applications.
Never mind....
by M.S.H. on 2020/02/14 11:05
Well, you got me — or actually you didn’t.
Terrible app/business model/don’t waste your time
by Five0hFour on 2019/01/23 05:12
This app uses the now ubiquitous “charge for every feature" model and that Isashame. The developer had responded saying they allow you to use all the pro features so it really is a "try it for free" app, I say that’s not accurate. Unless your workflow is done entirely on your phone then maybe you can get a solid feel for it, but I don’t trust edit until I’ve examined them on a monitor. YOU CANT EXPORT/SAVE A SINGLE PHOTO IF IT USES EVEN A SINGLE “PROFESSIONAL” feature So yea, you can “try” it, good luck getting a solid feel for whether the results are worth paying for when you can’t even export a file to evaluate the results
Seems like a good App but keeps exiting.
by JLam1111 on 2019/09/02 05:35
Downloaded a day ago and for a mobile photo editing App it seems pretty good for what it is designed for. My problem as of now it the App will exit (close out) in the middle of editing. This is happening pretty often...like 3 out of 5 edits. I'm running the App on a iPhone 7+ with the latest iOS updates. I hope this is resolvable with an update. As of now I won't use the App as much as I had hope too. Once resolved I certainly will. I gave 3 stars because of the unexpected exiting of the App. The features and what it can do is 5 stars.
Intuitive layout, but....
by _Aela_ on 2018/07/03 20:07
This app is basically lightroom- but you have to pay for it. Imho the layout is easier to navigate, so if you think that's worth the money, go for it. Idk if this app exports at a higher resolution than other apps, but it's basically VSCO and Lightroom CC mobile combined. When I tried using the filters for free, the app crashed each time. Not sure if that's bc of my phone or the app, but it's weird that it crashed whenever I went to the filter section? I want to try the RAW exposure but I havent been able to import RAW files yet. Maybe that makes the app worth it?
Needs shareable filters and layers!
by heyoume on 2019/08/31 16:43
Darkroom is powerful, but I wish it would do at least six more things.  First, the ability to share custom/modified filters. Second, the ability to use layers. Third, import images from third-party photo services like Unsplash or Pixabay. Fourth, film effects like dust & scratches, light leaks, glitches, etc. Fifth, post planner. Sixth, background images, patterns, and customizable colors for frames.  I would like Darkroom to be my all-in-one tool for editing, embellishing, and socializing my photography! Please make it happen!
Phenomenal Photo Editor
by johnrsull on 2018/08/11 18:19
The best photo editing app for iOS. It’s not even close. They’ve taken pro editing tools (curves, HSL adjustments, etc.) and made them feel as if they were created on a phone first. It’s so clear that every little detail has been very carefully considered. The library view is excellent - so much better than having to import photos into the app. And the new frame tool is fantastic. Only one I know of that lets you create 4:5 frames.
Best App Ever!
by cmason05 on 2018/12/24 16:27
I would say this is the best editing app I have gotten. All of the other ones are bad because the don’t give you many options unless you purchase them. This app though has many options even though you do t purchase the full pack. I purchased the full pack and it is by far better if you do that. I would say that the only downside is that the cropping to is very hard to use and I crop a lot in my photos.
FAVORITE EDITING APP OF ALL TIME
by GannonFreeman on 2018/12/19 06:53
The simplest most advanced image editing app on the App Store without a doubt, you won't be disappointed! The create custom filter option is so important for creating an all around cohesive aesthetic for your blog/instagram! Responsive team behind the app as well On dec 8th 2018 I sent an email explaining how important it would mean to me if darkroom came to the iPad! And not even 10 DAYS LATER, sure enough an update supporting iPad was released! Thank you guys, Keep up the AMAZING WORK!
RAW editing lags behind
by Devyn Fields on 2019/12/12 18:22
Comparing Darkroom and Lightroom on iOS at editing RAW images taken on iPhone is incomparable. Lightroom takes the raw file at has WAY more latitude for editing shadows and highlights than Darkroom. I conducted multiple tests thinking I was using the app wrong, but I’m on the latest editing and shooting RAW with both Halide and Moment apps. The raw image looks RAW (bad) but when trying to bring back the shadows and highlights, it is unsuccessful where Lightroom handles with ease. I prefer Darkrooms ui over Lightroom, but have to continue using Lightroom due to this gap in processing capability. This app could surpass Lightroom easily if it’s RAW editing power worked.
Good stuff
by smelting on 2018/08/24 06:37
I purchased premium right away. After being immediately impressed with the design and functionality I decided to purchase premium. Honestly I’m not even sure what the premium vs free features are as I barely used it in the free mode, but I’m very happy with this app and love the opportunity to support this developer. They’ve done a great job. It seems as though they’re continuing to expand the functionality. Highly recommended.
Used to be great...
by RDub76 on 2019/02/18 05:24
This was my favorite, go-to photo editor. The latest version is super buggy. Some of the tools don’t work at all without restarting the app. For some reason the app gets hung up on previously viewed photos; I try editing a photo, but nothing happens, turns out the previously viewed photo is being changed! This happens when trying to delete photos also; the app deletes a photo other than the one selected for deletion. These issues don’t happen constantly, but consistently enough to make the app extremely frustrating to use! FYI, this happens with .HEIC and .JPEG, I am not using this app to edit RAW.
The absolute greatest.
by blondesarntdorks on 2017/10/27 18:31
Was a long time VSCO user, but I’ve officially converted. Dark Room is so much more powerful, and it’s not just throwing filters over your images (although, their selection is great there too). Love that the edits can be saved right to my camera roll, so I don’t have to be constantly uploading and downloading to edit. Overall, Dark Room is seamless, powerful and a must-have tool for creating better photographs.
Best iPhone Photo Editing App
by The Other Elf on 2019/02/18 23:49
I like this app for editing RAW photos I take with my iPhone. While currently I don’t use it for photos from my DSLR, if my next body has Bluetooth/WiFi, I certainly will. One feature I think it is missing is local adjustments. While that might be a tall order for an iPhone app, I’d love to see it happen. I do wish the highlight/shadow tools were less destructive on RAW photos. They behave like they’re adjusting a jpg even on RAW. The temperature tool could also be a little more powerful.
Comments to the developer
by Notapaidreviewer on 2019/08/21 06:31
Here's a warning sign. Unless an app is mainstream and Apple recommends it, one should think twice before downloading. If it's not common, don't be fooled into their recommendations. The other thing is the developer or whomever is replying to the feedback comments should leave this to the pros. Responses like "to each their own" and developer whining how much effort goes into an app or costs are simply childish, unprofessional and add no value. There's many excellent free or little cost apps out there. The inappropriate responses provided by the developer is another reason not to download any of their products in my opinion. Of course, to each their own ;)

Pass.

On your Apple design award for 2020. Rightly so with regular updates to an outstanding editing app. Best in class.

An app that has only 3 days of a free trial, then make you pay for it afterwards, isn’t really free. Money hungry.

Subscription based model 👎👎
by s.tbn84 on 2020/05/30 19:40
For that reason alone; garbage. Decent editor, but another app that's gone the subscription route, which ultimately ends up being deleted. One-time payment apps I'm all for, but I'll never pay a subscription for a photo app. I'd say that I don't understand why developers always end up going that way eventually, but it's a rhetorical question: they're money hungry and most often their apps aren't even close to being worth a subscription model. Get real. ✌️

You guys are dope, I will continue supporting your company with pleasure!

by riceguns on 2020/02/20 00:53

by M.S.H. on 2020/02/14 11:05
Well, you got me — or actually you didn’t.

Unstable = unuseful

A little question
by ixland on 2019/05/18 14:44
Hey dear Darkroom team, Firstly, it was a very nice experience to use your app.
Thanks!
Not sure if that helps any
Not sure why it took me so long...
by maax.net on 2019/09/26 10:49
I was using Snapseed as my primary editing app.

Good stuff
