Thorough, but...
by OneCornerstone on 2020/01/27 00:54
Overall, my FAVORITE photo editing software for iOS. It’s definitely great for editing RAW photos, JPEG, and exporting in batch. Very efficient edition. But, I wish it had some other key features... 1. Masking, or editing only some areas of a photo. 2. Lens profiles, so software can correct barrel distortion for wider-angle lenses. Other than that, it’s solid!
Amazing
by Tmcdo on 2020/01/25 01:58
This app is worth the buy, I’ve had it for almost a year with the purchased option, it is great for sunset, ocean/lake, and landscape shots.
Greatest editing app!!
by poisonivy222 on 2020/01/20 23:37
This app is one of the best photo editing apps I've used. It's super simple to use but makes your photos look so great! Also it has never glitched or kicked me out of the app. The only thing that I don't like is how most of the great, cool effects and tools are Premium and you have to pay. Other than that, this app is amazing and I highly recommend.
Awesome

I love this editing app it’s so awesome
DarkRoom makes edits accessible to amateurs such as myself.

Just about one of my favorite editing apps!
Crashes!!!
by Linerd0704 on 2020/01/13 06:57
The functionality and the presets are fine, but when importing large RAW files the app constantly crashes. Especially when dealing with A7R4’s RAWs the crop tool will break too.
Constantly crashes
by Brooke_89? on 2020/01/11 06:00
I spent almost$10 on this app and it constantly crashes on me. I have tried editing the same photo 3 times and it has crashed each time and now I am too frustrated to even go back into the app. Please fix this!! 😡
Literally the best!
by Jaybot- on 2020/01/07 15:19
Finally took the jump from VSCO, and Lightroom and made Darkroom my default photo editor of choice. I hope they continue to support this and I love that no subscription is tied to this. I have purchased the full version for $10 and it is WELL WORTH IT. Thank you developers!

NOT free! Trial program won’t save edit
by Rubyfish on 2019/12/27 08:57
Yes, it’s free to download and try, but you can’t export or save your edited photo! What good is a trial if you can’t evaluate your modified edited photo outside of this app? You guys are a bunch of lying sleaze bags
External monitor issue
by Anurajguru on 2019/12/26 06:29
I use my iPad Pro connected to an external monitor. But the darkroom app does not work at all. Every single app I use mirrors the content on the iPad to the monitor except darkroom. Please fix.
Great + Suggestions
by Griffin Davidson on 2019/12/22 19:58
Darkroom is an amazing photo editor, it seamlessly integrates with Halide. I’m excited for the app to become available on the Mac with Catalyst. Highly recommend with Serious photographers / iPhoneograhers
No white balance?
by Metageek2017 on 2019/12/22 16:36
How do you create a RAW editor and leave out white balance? It's one of the most important reasons to shoot in RAW.
So close, yet...
by freediverx01 on 2019/12/21 12:15
I downloaded this app long ago and was impressed by the nice interface and many of its features. I was totally shocked that it lacked basic editing looks such as white balance, but the developers said that was high in their list. Fast forward several months and still no white balance. Still no exposure slider or anything like a dejase control. What’s the deal? I don’t like jumping back and forth between multiple editing apps. And I like even less having to pay for multiple apps in the same category. I’m sorry but I find it cringeworthy to see a photo editing app with a huge selection of (to me, useless) filters while lacking basic editing tools that I need for virtually every photo I edit. Cmon guys, at least give us an estimated roadmap for when these critical features will finally be added.
Great potential missing key features.
by Glitty Pony on 2019/12/18 21:54
The app is actually quite fast and easy to use. Zoom is fast and nice. The app must have key features added even for non professionals like red eye removal and not a snotty one. People want a custom red eye filter. If you added the hand tools like dodge and burn etc this would be as good of an app as Corel aftershot and I think you could raise the the price or sell a pro version for more. $10 is a fair price but for me I need that red eye removal bare minimum before buying.
Very very very good quick editing app
by jkb54 on 2019/12/18 21:16
All the functionality plus easy exports for IG stories and whatnot make this app an easy 5-star. I’ve tried them all, this one takes the cake.
Greedy
by KingWillum on 2019/12/14 09:29
Disappointed that the option to purchase a single feature was taken away. Now you have to buy all tools/filters for $10 when all I needed was the curve tool. It’s an otherwise decent app for quick mobile editing.
RAW editing lags behind
by Devyn Fields on 2019/12/12 18:22
Comparing Darkroom and Lightroom on iOS at editing RAW images taken on iPhone is incomparable. Lightroom takes the raw file at has WAY more latitude for editing shadows and highlights than Darkroom. I conducted multiple tests thinking I was using the app wrong, but I’m on the latest editing and shooting RAW with both Halide and Moment apps. The raw image looks RAW (bad) but when trying to bring back the shadows and highlights, it is unsuccessful where Lightroom handles with ease. I prefer Darkrooms ui over Lightroom, but have to continue using Lightroom due to this gap in processing capability. This app could surpass Lightroom easily if it’s RAW editing power worked.

NOT ENOUGH PHOTO EDITING TOOLS
Not a free app. A “trial” for a paid app
by Rujimbob on 2019/12/10 16:29
Description doesn’t indicate what it really is. Won’t let you do much of anything at all without paying.
Dark room
by Claireita on 2019/12/09 13:42
I think this app is very fun the children like it to and I think it’s nice that people that don’t now how to edit can edit now.
Almost there!
by Zmzmsisnd on 2019/12/06 07:31
I appreciate what the app can do. However, there’s one think that’s missing that keeps me out of using Darkroom - Gradient tool. I almost use this tool to all of the images I edit, and Lightroom is my only choice on iPad platform, but I really like the interface of Darkroom, really wish to see this feature add in the future! ❤️
Great app
by alltodoaboutnothing on 2019/12/05 18:01
This has got to be one of the best photo organizers I have ever found! I have over 18,000 pictures and this app put them in folders. Love this app😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
Potentially A Great App
by LeahaMaria on 2019/12/03 19:05
The paid features seem nicer than most apps paid features- I still am not paying a subscription for every possible thing on this planet. Adobe has been great for photo editing & the app with all the features is free. I am yet to find an app to offer more with the same free price point. Until something is better I don’t think any app should be charging.

Already purchased... but now they want more
by hexkaster on 2019/11/08 04:12
I already purchased this along with designer, same day, and now all of a sudden darkroom wants me to spend $9.99 to unlock something I’ve already purchased. Pretty upset.
4.3.5 and 4.3.6 Black Frames
by ajazz16 on 2019/11/06 14:49
The 4.3.5 and 4.3.6 patch did not resolve frames turning black upon exporting for me. I edited a photo using Pixelmator Photo, exported to PNG as well as JPG. I imported the PNG into Darkroom, applied a frame (9x16, white border), and the frame is interpreted as black upon export regardless of which format used.

Unable to edit Raw photos taken with halide
by cielzxc on 2019/11/03 13:54
Since updating to iOS 13 I have been unable to edit raw photos with halide. I have experienced numerous crashes for doing task in the app that you wouldn’t expect to have happen completely making the app unusable as a editing tool. These issues need to be addressed. Until the my rating of the app will remain.
THE BEST photo editing app ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
by Ari Klein on 2019/11/01 03:21
I’ve tried 10+ photo editing apps, and Darkroom is hands-down both the most powerful and most intuitive. It’s just plain easy to use.
Let me keep my photos.

This was my favorite app until this recent update when you delete photos out your phone the photos disappear from the app which makes NO SENSE. fix it back please.

Crashes and lacking some features
by Thesaint2332 on 2019/10/29 00:12
I’m running the latest software on iPhone 11 pro Max and the app constantly crashes, especially when editing raw photos. Fix the crashing, add extra features such as demonizing, bracket editing, etc and this could be the best editing app on the market.
Crashes galore
by Clams Maloney on 2019/10/26 01:16
Glad I tested this out before spending any money. Editing RAW just leads to crash after crash after crash. The app looks nice, but looks come second to function, and this app does not function well.
Crashes
by Don'tWantToType on 2019/10/25 13:33
I like the app so far but the new update made the app hardly usable as it keeps crashing while editing or pulling the next image. Also the images exported from the app make the Photos app by Apple crash as well.
i love this app

Hey I’m having trouble editing portrait mode photos. I am not sure if you guys took out the blur option for editing them but in any of the portrait mode photos I want to edit I can’t see the option. Would be perfect otherwise.
Steer clear if you work with RAW
by makakonsappo on 2019/10/22 04:17
I bought this app because halide recommends it. Not sure why. It´s nice to retouch jpeg inages but not for RAW. At some point when editing, I couldn’t get the results I needed (not even something similar to what the normal iphone camera gets). I thought I was doing something wrong so I contacted their support. They took forever to respond. I sent them files and samples of what was happening and they acknowledged there was a problem and they´d fix it in a coming release. Well, that was a year ago and it´s still there. I dońt get the raving reviews. Maybe only my version is buggy? I really wanted to like this app. But it´s time to move on.
Yoo-hoo!!!!
by buddyrocker2 on 2019/10/21 02:49
Amazing app!!! Makes everything so much beautiful and unique!
Good but not great...yet.
by MaxxuM on 2019/10/21 00:05
Darkroom has everything I need - the only problem is it crashes very predictably. Every RAW image taken on my iPhone Xs Max will crash Darkroom on my iPad Pro 11 when I try to sharpen the image more than 50% at once. The settings are still saved, thank goodness, but it's still annoying since I have to go back and find the image I was working with. My solution is to change the sharpening some, close the image, then do it again and again until I get it where I want. There are a few other tools that do this, but sharpening is the most consistent and frustrating. Please fix this!
Just easy and mobile
by skippeedoodles on 2019/10/20 16:24
I love using this for global editing adjustments. Also the cropping is best especially when you post regularly on Instagram. It has its own PREMADE crop sets which you can choose that are Instagram applicable. Plus, if you use the Moment app for taking photos like I do. They both as well are integrated. Seemless process makes the job go by quicker! 💯 IG: @skippeedoodles
Export to Other App Issue
by Islandetron on 2019/10/18 04:50

Crashing M50 RAW
by tone.zone on 2019/10/10 01:02
This app is stellar as evidenced by the overwhelmingly positive reviews. I’m one of the unfortunates ones experiencing a lot of crashes editing raw files from my Canon M50 on the latest iPadOS version. I’m sure they’ll fix it. :)
Crashing constantly
by ReturnMyMoneyThankxxx on 2019/10/08 03:38
I’ve never seen an app crash the way darkroom does. I try to load a picture, crashes. I trying to go into portraits mode, crashes. I try load a filter, crashes again. Oh, then I try and import a picture, yes that crashes too. So not with my time or my money.

Lacking features, RAW editing is not great, crashes way too often
by Basil the Sage on 2019/09/28 15:35
Maybe 2 people are not enough to support this app commensurate with it’s (upgrade) price? Why do Halide and the App Store rave about it?
App crashes all the time but I still use it
by Andrew Kroeger on 2019/09/28 05:21
I have an iPhone X and Darkroom crashes All. The. Time. Very frustrating when about 50 percent of the time I try to add filter, it crashes and the app screen goes black. I have to then go back to Photos, click Edit again, then the Darkroom icon, then filter, then select the filter. That’s a lot of clicks. I want so bad to love this app and i stick with it hoping the next update will fix the crashes. They never do. I’m trying to go all mobile and dump Lightroom and these crashes are making that hard. But it’s a beautiful app when it works. I’ll try to start submitting crash logs I guess.
Do not update
by Tikitov on 2019/09/27 23:01
I updated the app yesterday and when I tapped the icon tonight it crashed. Repeatedly. So I turned off my iPhone and turned it back on and the same thing happened three times now. Please fix this app ASAP!!! I use it exclusively daily for all of my photos and hashtag sets for my Instagram account. Specifications: iPhone 8 running IOS 12.1.1.

Not sure why it took me so long...
by maax.net on 2019/09/26 10:49
I was using Snapseed as my primary editing app. This one was on the side. Woth Afterlight2. I own all three(Snapseed from the times it was a paid app) and I bought darkroom last. Now it is next to Snapseed on my main screen as the go to app. What it severely misses is the perspective tool from SS and the ability to fast apply the previous edits. It is a bit clunky at this point. The rest is epic. Batch editing, exporting as well as the ability to delete unwanted photos from the app itself. Love it. Max
Great features, but strains battery and dims screen
by alloyd on 2019/09/26 03:50
Best mobile photo editor. Huge fan of the tones and curves. Only problem, after 5-10 minutes, my iPhone XS Max starts warming up and the screen auto dims. Not the best situation when making small adjustments.

iOS13 is bad
by Taylor.Lynn on 2019/09/22 19:14
This used to be my favorite editing app. But with no update for iOS13 and iPhone 11, editing is awful. Portrait mode photos as overridden to Darkroom’s internal blur editing and is no bueno. I want to be able to set my aperture outside of the app (internally within Photos) and then have it stay as such when editing in Darkroom, now I literally cannot edit portrait mode photos. I’m sure there’s been plenty of pre-developer time to iron out some of these issues. We’re nearly three days into the new phones & iOS so we should have an update by now. Please and thank you.
Great app

Screenshots are pictures too
by Brandon_219 on 2019/09/14 08:10
If I could add one advanced feature it would be spot-selected white balance, but I'm content with the controls for the most part. If I could add one basic feature that really shouldn't be an issue, though, it'd be to import screenshots. Why the hell are screenshots excluded? I have this near-perfect photo editor and can't edit 1/4 of my photos. I know screenshots aren't ideal for printing but they're good for testing crops and testing edits of photos, the latter I can't do without making copies of photos thanks to this app's strange limitation. Yes I can test edits on a single image but I would have to note and undo every edit to try the next. It just seems so much more inefficient than simply allowing screenshots to be edited. Edit: added one star. It's good that screenshots aren't completely excluded, but I still wish they appeared in albums like normal photos do. In an attempt to declutter, per developer's response, I feel like they've actually created more clutter in making screenshots harder to navigate and cause needless frustration by making them disappear from albums they're in. If you want to declutter the normal camera roll, that's fine, but favorites and other albums should be left alone.
Won’t let me export
by avisanderson71 on 2019/09/13 19:55
So far I’ve liked the app but I’ve tried everything to export a photo I edited and it seems to get confused with the “Unlock” button right below it. It seems like I should be able to export a photo with the free version but I don’t know. Maybe there’s some malfunction?
Don’t download for portrait mode
by Juicyy314928 on 2019/09/13 10:38
Shows you that you can adjust the background and foreground of the photo but I don’t see it at all. Must be a paid feature. As a free app, this things is exactly the same as all the others

It’s works so perfectly that it’s life changing. thank you to the creators of this app. it is definitely worth the 10$. and it’s not a subscription type of buy, u buy it and keep it. 💎 gotta love this. I will recommend this app to anyone that loves taking photos and editing. dark room is the app you need to complete your photography life.
Seems like a good App but keeps exiting.
by JLam1111 on 2019/09/02 05:35
Downloaded a day ago and for a mobile photo editing App it seems pretty good for what it is designed for. My problem as of now it the App will exit (close out) in the middle of editing. This is happening pretty often...like 3 out of 5 edits. I'm running the App on a iPhone 7+ with the latest iOS updates. I hope this is resolvable with an update. As of now I won't use the App as much as I had hope too. Once resolved I certainly will. I gave 3 stars because of the unexpected exiting of the App. The features and what it can do is 5 stars.
Needs shareable filters and layers!
by heyoume on 2019/08/31 16:43
Darkroom is powerful, but I wish it would do at least six more things.  First, the ability to share custom/modified filters. Second, the ability to use layers. Third, import images from third-party photo services like Unsplash or Pixabay. Fourth, film effects like dust & scratches, light leaks, glitches, etc. Fifth, post planner. Sixth, background images, patterns, and customizable colors for frames.  I would like Darkroom to be my all-in-one tool for editing, embellishing, and socializing my photography! Please make it happen!
Great features but unstable
by CERDABOI on 2019/08/30 18:11
Although there are no selective editing brushes, Darkroom is probably the only editor with this many editing tools that allows you to batch edit on mobile. The only thing that’s missing is some stability. It always crashes on my 5th gen iPad mini. The only things I would improve is the stability of app itself, the grain feature, because the grain gets wayyy to gritty, and a noise reduction feature. Honestly I think noise reduction would be more important than a selective brush. I could use Darkoom for event photo editing, where I barely finding myself using the selective brush, but then that leaves out a trusty noise reduction feature so I feel like it really limits my options when it comes to picking a project to edit with this app. I would still rather stick to doing the majority of my editing with Lightroom. This app came very close to opening up my workflow but that one feature of noise reduction missing is a deal breaker for me.
Better than VSCO
by AMDphreak on 2019/08/30 05:33
Does everything you could want and doesn’t have a confusing separate Library, and doesn’t charge you for filters, and it doesn’t have bugs that crash the app while exporting. Great feature set, and you can change individual color levels without paying unlike VSCO.

The app adjusted some of the settings between the app and modification translation.
Keeps crashing
by rayzd15 on 2019/08/25 03:27
This app is really good! But for some reason when I try to edit a raw picture taken from the Halide app, it just makes the whole app crash and it made my phone turn off and on (I’m using an IPhone XS Max )
I need help! :(

I had the premium app on my old phone, but now that I changed my cell phone and downloaded it again, I don't have the premium account anymore, why?

Nice but.....
by Horserious on 2019/05/03 04:47
It’s a nice app but needs a lot of work. The interface looks good, but it’s lacking a few key features such as white balance, exposure slider etc. As said, nice app but not worth the asking price of 9.99. If I apply a b&w filter and I notice that the saturation slider is set to zero, I’m out. Sorry. The idea is nice, so is the group of ppl you’re targetting I reckon. I’m not impressed by the developers answer at all. It’s not worth $9.99. What about an exposure slider, dehaze, WB, reversed vignetting, etc, etc. there are better apps for less. And if you say you enjoy this as a pro you’re not a pro. And I never said I didn’t like the app. All I say is that it’s not worth $9.99. I will be happy to give more stars if you come up with an app that’s worth the money. In other words, keep working on it and add pro tools in the future. Basic tools like exposure and white balance should be in here to start with. Then there are whites, highlights, blacks, shadows, vignette to the darken or lighten. Ah well I think you know what’s there. Oh and I have some positives too. Interface is nice, intuitive, it’s fast and frames are a nice tool too. When it comes to filters I would suggest not to put too much energy in filters. There are many (free) apps who can do the trick. And, in the bigger scheme of it all, “how many filters do we really need?”. Good luck, keep up the good work.
Very useful even for Pros
by Besdayz on 2019/02/15 08:30
I use this app when I want to import dslr images (via google drive or canon) to my iphone and display these images on social media or photo share. Obviously I won’t be printing from iPhone files since it’s smaller resolution files. For pro work I would use the real file on my computer and adobe products to edit. But for a quick edit with some nice filters curves perspective cropping and sending previews to clients or even personal use this works well. What I really like is I don’t have to save as a edited image and duplicate files since all edits are non destructive and can easily revert to originals. My suggestion for the developers would be people like me would love more functionality that more closely resembles what I can do on Lightroom or photoshop. I know that means more cost but off top of my head I would really like things like 1) stitching images for panoramas 2) focus stacking 3) spot removal (brush tool) 4) masks (for local edits) 5) hdr 6) more filters esp for B&W. I would pay for these. Carbon has some good ones. 7) Gaussian blurs 8) gradients 9) selective coloring (making eyes whiter, teeth whiter etc) I realize this may be a sophisticated set of functions for a mobile app but hopefully in future it is available.
Crashes when zooming in on raw photos 😣
by papaSnoot on 2018/12/22 12:16
Let me start by saying that I really WANT to love darkroom. It is tightly integrated with halide and other camera apps, and the amount of control available in the app is amazing. I also love that you can super easily switch between raw and other versions of your pics. So the reason I just can’t love this app is because for me it is unusable. I am using halide to shoot raw photos and when I edit them in darkroom as soon as I zoom in close on a raw photo and try to pan the view, the app crashes. This happened every time with any raw photo weather it was shot on halide or another iPhone app, or shot on my Sony a6300 and imported through photos app. I have tried deleting the app and rebooting then reinstalling but it just does the same thing with raw photos. Very disappointed. Hope the devs can fix this soon else I really can’t use the program. If this gets fixed it’s easily a 5 star rating!!
Reading the reviews...
by COLORADOAPPUSER on 2019/05/24 13:42
I’ve just downloaded this to try it out. But let me say after reading the responses by the developers to some of the reviews I’m hesitant to put money towards the app. My question, why come across as offensive and upset whenever anyone gives you less than all stars and makes suggestions? Apple, how can you continually highlight this app when you see some of the responses by the developers? You continually suggest you aren’t a pro app, only a team of two etc. That’s fine, then I would suggest making the price less, or even free, until it’s fully ready and it might help you build a loyal following. Most would consider that price point to have a fully polished app ready to work in every way. Just don’t be offended when people who really care make suggestions. By the way I rarely review, this just really caught me by surprise. Not a good way to build loyalty with your brand. Accept the criticism and use it to get better...
As a professional, this is my go to
by dan beltran on 2018/11/12 04:58
I absolutely love darkroom. It has all the controls I want for editing in my iPhone without getting clunky or bogged down with unnecessary extras. If I want to do complicated functions I’d do it on my computer. One request I have is to be able to reorder adjustments so for instance I could move temperature and tint up to the top. I work in Lightroom all day and it would be nice to reorder them to what’s familiar instead of hunting down the adjustment I’m looking for. Darkroom has serious updates so often I can’t imagine they aren’t already working on this, I’m sure it’s just a matter of time. Thank you for making a pro editing tool that just works.
Restored previous purchases
by thinkman on 2018/04/02 12:59
Not the most intuitive means of restoring previous purchases but FINALLY found the settings menu and now all is well. 3 stars because this should also be a full resolution iPad app. Take care of that and this review goes to 5 stars. After the developer responded to my 3 star review saying “Apple doesn’t make it very easy for us to restore purchases……”, I have to add that this has never been case with other Apps – in this case it was a matter of finding the settings to be able to do this. My feelings are that developers need to standardize on the look and position of the settings gear! I upped my review by a star as they noted they were working on an iPad version, even though I feel it should have been developed for that in the first place. If this happens, I’ll make it a 5 star review.
I really want to move to iPad only photo editing, this is almost the app I need
by zedkolk on 2019/04/14 05:19
I would LOVE to sell my mac and move to iPad only photo editing, but before I can do that I need an iPad app that includes the functionality I have from Lightroom Classic (Lightroom CC doesn’t have all the features I need). I found Darkroom from The Sweet Setup and its definitely the best photo editing app I’ve tried but it doesn’t quite make the move for me. I shoot primarily events and landscapes, sometimes portraits. Required (for me) features that this app does have: RAW support Custom filters Paste edits across multiple photos (the batch edit feature wasn’t working for me, I wish it did) Batch exports iCloud Photos support Ability to tap to change adjustments instead of drag a slider Required features that are missing (or I can’t find): Brushes (for highlights, shadows, saturation, etc...) Spot healing brush or repair tool (I forgot what Lightroom calls it, the shortcut is Q) Wishlist that isn’t a dealbreaker: Dropbox support Ability to view iCloud photos with the date added view in addition to the chronological view What’s nice but isn’t a required for me: Modify copyright metadata on export Favoriting an image in Darkroom also favorites it in Photos
RAW editing needs improvements
by masnun on 2019/03/10 01:42
This is a great app. I love the UI and UX. Love the integration with Halide. The filters are great. Copy hashtag feature is absolutely great - love it. But what I think needs more work is raw editing features. The photos are underexposed sometimes. Even after increasing exposure and brightness, they remain underexposed. With Adobe Lightroom, the same photo gets a lot of light when I move up exposure a bit. This is my only issue with the app. I am quite fine with it missing some other useful features like selective editing. Darkroom in app purchase is a one time thing, so compared to Lightroom, Darkroom definitely offers better value at a lower price. If the under exposure issue is fixed, I will continue using Darkroom for almost all my photo editing.
Very Misleading
by mDevereaux on 2019/08/23 03:14
To be clear, downloading the app is free. “Trying” is it free. But you can’t export anything unless you pay for the app so I feel it’s very misleading to advertise that it’s free. The developer should clearly state upfront that if you actually want to use the app - as in make edits and download the final image - that the user has to pay. I understand the premise of try before you buy but that’s wasn’t clear from what I read. I also find it odd that no matter what edits you make, even simple edits, you still can’t export the image. Most freemium apps allow some free options. That said, the app seems to have a lot of nice editing features. From a usability standpoint, sliders that have a generous margin to snap back to 0 is nice. My suggestion to the developer is to rewrite the description so it’s very clear that the app is not free.
Excellent App!
by itsmechris on 2017/12/28 09:27
I recently discovered the Darkroom App. I immediately purchased full functionality. For years, I have made “social media” posts by editing JPG files with less than ideal image quality. Frustration finally led me to search for a better option than the stock Nikon wireless mobile utility and Apple Photos on my iPhone. That’s how I came across Darkroom (and ShutterSnitch by a different developer which allows me to download RAW files in bulk off of my Nikon camera). This combination is incredible; I only wish I would have discovered it earlier. Note to developers: I just sent an email to you with a couple of suggestions that might make your 5 star app even better 😊
DarkRoom
by Amherst Owens on 2019/01/30 14:22
DarkRoom is a fantastic iOS photo editing app that I have been using for a few months now. I really like the slider functions as it gives almost pinpoint accuracy over editing your photos. Also this app lets you edit Raw files as well as other more common file types. You have to buy other functions within the app, but most other notable apps like Polarr do the same. At $5.00 per unlock it can get costly. You don’t have to buy them if you don’t want to use the app and it even lets you try before you buy to see if you even want the extras. But over all its functions, and clean interface make it a wonderful photo editing app to use.
A little question
by ixland on 2019/05/18 14:44
Hey dear Darkroom team, Firstly, it was a very nice experience to use your app. You know, you guys have got the best interface in a market, But I do need to ask you a question that if you want to add a precise editing feature to your app because your app has been nearly perfect except for the absence of that one little feature. And I’m really sure there are a lot of people out there who are willing to pay you for that. To be honest there are some apps which have already had this feature and charge less, but I believe Darkroom will still be the best if that feature has been added. :)
Great App, Developers work hard to keep it that way
by Sunflash.iph on 2018/07/18 00:19
Edit: Thank you darkroom! You fixed the problem that I mentioned in this review, glad to see that you are trying to make a great product. I added a star, cause I really do love this app, but have run into a new issue that is almost as annoying as the first. My edits do not remain on photos when I modify the original. I’ve gone back in multiple times and modified a photo, exported it to modify the original. But once I close the app it goes back to its original state. Will be glad once this is fixed! I really do love this App, makes editing a snap. The color controls are a game changer for me when it comes to editing on my phone. The one issue I have with the app, and keeping it from 5 stars is the that in the library, where I can select which photos to edit, it gets the photo is displays is different than the photo that comes up when I select it. This makes it hard to edit photos cause I’m not sure where the photo I want to edit is, I’ll find it, click on it and it’s a different photo. Fix this issue and I think it’s a 5 Star app
RAW image processing isn’t usable compared to others
by Gevork g on 2019/07/04 20:35
This app has the potential of being great. It has the library support and copying edits across many pictures by pasting. Overall the feature set is ok , but I noticed the biggest problem compared to other apps for RAW image processing. This app shows the RAW image file with muted colors and a white haze across the image. Adjustments that O make aren’t the same adjustments as in Lightroom or Affinity Photo, or even After Light 2. Is it the RAW image processing or the was it show the image? Ive tried many images back and forth with the other apps, and I cant get a desirable edit on Darkroom the way I get it on Lightroom or Affinity Photo. I cant get that crisp vibrant photo I want. The end result looks muted, off color, and not clear, with noise. I like the potential for the app, but it needs to update its RAW image processing algorithm to make it useable and on par with the other apps.
I never write reviews but...
by drk_adapt on 2018/04/16 02:55
I found myself compelled to give credit where credit is due. As an amateur photographer I found myself very impressed with the features and customizability in darkroom. I have used several photo editing apps in the past including Lightroom, VSCO cam, etc. However; this app offers the flexibility and depth where other apps fall short. Keep up the good work. If you have graduated beyond just point and click filters then seriously look into this app. I bought the one time purchase to unlock all features and have been thrilled with the results. Cheers!
Overall quite good
by TouchTodo Author on 2017/11/29 05:26
Coming from desktop raw workflow, I knew I need to give up something when comes to mobile. This app is probably as close as it gets for what’s out there. One of the key feature I’m looking for is curve, and it (kinda) has it, with fixed highlight and shadow mid point, which for the most part I’m fine with it. The problem I have with it right now, and I hope developer can fixed it in next version, is the inconsistent preview AFTER I did the editing. For couple photos the preview inside the app shows overexposed (after I choose to modify original). It constantly skews my judgement, and esp when I want to copy over edits to other photos.
Like the App Interface, good basic editing
by asteroidbooty on 2019/06/13 16:36
Lovely interface! Would like to make this my primary editing app, but there are still a few features missing (see other reviews). Overall, it has most of the things you need to edit photos quickly. The asking price for additional filters is also pretty reasonable. However, pre built filters aren't what I want most. If prioritizing new features, please work on retouch tools next and add a way to resize images easily. Edit: I would like the ability to resize photos to reduce file size for easier sharing. Also crop for upload to social media - the popular aspect ratios are 1:1 , 4:5 and 16:9. Thanks!
The Very Best
by Mad Chipmunk on 2018/10/06 13:52
UPDATE: This is still my favorite photo editor and one of my favorite apps period. The developer team continues to invest in and add useful features on a regular basis. Recent examples include iOS 12’s portrait depth map and hashtag collections. What’s equally impressive is the thoughtfulness of placement for new features. When an (any) app is new, users like it for its simplicity, but software developers have to improve it — they have to add new features. It’s hard to do that without adding tons of complexity. Darkroom hits an awesome balance. **** This is my go-to photo editor. The included filters are great. The manual controls are awesome. It's incredibly handy that you can modify the original photo. You can use the app to browse and edit photos on your camera roll: no importing. Recent improvements have improved the experience of the user interface as well. I'm really glad I paid for this one. 👍 Hey Developers! You created something pretty special. Nice work!!! 😄
Love it. Max
Great Interface, Lacking in features
by mobilephotographerdude on 2018/06/12 05:32
I’ll start by saying that this is a very well designed app. If you’re looking for quick photo editing with some creative control this definitely could work for you. However both HSL and Curves editing are accessible only through an in app purchase. The same functionality I have to say is, unfortunately for these devs, available free with Lightroom CC mobile. I also found minute changes to things like temperature or exposures difficult. While this won’t become my go-to mobile photography editor, it certainly is worth checking out for its interface.
Fun app
by Dave 2347 on 2019/05/26 10:47
I like this app for doing quick changes to a photo the fact that it will link and send right to Instagram and other sites is nice. The things I would like to see it do is allow you to pick just a certain spot on the photo to change and a little more control over whites. We do a lot of outdoor waterfall, lake, ocean etc shots. I would like to be able to just take a section of a bush and change to colors on it like in Lightroom. Overall a great app that I use a lot.
Phenomenal Photo Editor
by johnrsull on 2018/08/11 18:19
The best photo editing app for iOS. It’s not even close. They’ve taken pro editing tools (curves, HSL adjustments, etc.) and made them feel as if they were created on a phone first. It’s so clear that every little detail has been very carefully considered. The library view is excellent - so much better than having to import photos into the app. And the new frame tool is fantastic. Only one I know of that lets you create 4:5 frames.
Impressed
by rickmurrays on 2017/09/27 00:54
Very impressed with this latest release. Tools are powerful yet easily accessible, and the latest UI skin shows a lot of attention to detail, with a few minor exceptions. The export menu is well crafted, with semi translucent dark background, nice typography, etc. However, there are a few menus, such as aspect, border and favorites, that unfortunately use the default grey iOS of old. Would be nice if these were updated to match the rest of the apps look and feel. A nitpick for sure, and certainly does not detract from the remainder of this excellent app
Terrible app/business model/don’t waste your time
by Five0hFour on 2019/01/23 05:12
This app uses the now ubiquitous “charge for every feature" model and that Isashame. The developer had responded saying they allow you to use all the pro features so it really is a "try it for free" app, I say that’s not accurate. Unless your workflow is done entirely on your phone then maybe you can get a solid feel for it, but I don’t trust edit until I’ve examined them on a monitor. YOU CANT EXPORT/SAVE A SINGLE PHOTO IF IT USES EVEN A SINGLE “PROFESSIONAL” feature So yea, you can “try” it, good luck getting a solid feel for whether the results are worth paying for when you can’t even export a file to evaluate the results
Intuitive layout, but....
by _Aela_ on 2018/07/03 20:07
This app is basically lightroom- but you have to pay for it. Imho the layout is easier to navigate, so if you think that's worth the money, go for it. Idk if this app exports at a higher resolution than other apps, but it's basically VSCO and Lightroom CC mobile combined. When I tried using the filters for free, the app crashed each time. Not sure if that's bc of my phone or the app, but it's weird that it crashed whenever I went to the filter section? I want to try the RAW exposure but I havent been able to import RAW files yet. Maybe that makes the app worth it?

Darkroom is powerful, but I wish it would do at least six more things.  First, the ability to share custom/modified filters. Second, the ability to use layers. Please make it happen!
Best App Ever!
by cmason05 on 2018/12/24 16:27
I would say this is the best editing app I have gotten. All of the other ones are bad because the don’t give you many options unless you purchase them. This app though has many options even though you do t purchase the full pack. I purchased the full pack and it is by far better if you do that. I would say that the only downside is that the cropping to is very hard to use and I crop a lot in my photos.
Only one complaint..
by JacqlynS on 2018/07/29 07:30
This app is amazing. Plenty of options to quickly make your photo look like it was taken and edited by a professional. My only complaint is that now I have to pay to get the features i once had for free... I was going to rate this app 4/5 for that reason... however it's not your guys' fault I'm a cheap 'you-know-what' lol. The price is fair, would be worth every penny. I'm just not in the position to be spending money on applications.
FAVORITE EDITING APP OF ALL TIME
by GannonFreeman on 2018/12/19 06:53
The simplest most advanced image editing app on the App Store without a doubt, you won't be disappointed! The create custom filter option is so important for creating an all around cohesive aesthetic for your blog/instagram! Responsive team behind the app as well On dec 8th 2018 I sent an email explaining how important it would mean to me if darkroom came to the iPad! And not even 10 DAYS LATER, sure enough an update supporting iPad was released! Thank you guys, Keep up the AMAZING WORK!
Good stuff
by smelting on 2018/08/24 06:37
I purchased premium right away. After being immediately impressed with the design and functionality I decided to purchase premium. Honestly I’m not even sure what the premium vs free features are as I barely used it in the free mode, but I’m very happy with this app and love the opportunity to support this developer. They’ve done a great job. It seems as though they’re continuing to expand the functionality. Highly recommended.
Used to be great...
by RDub76 on 2019/02/18 05:24
This was my favorite, go-to photo editor. The latest version is super buggy. Some of the tools don’t work at all without restarting the app. For some reason the app gets hung up on previously viewed photos; I try editing a photo, but nothing happens, turns out the previously viewed photo is being changed! This happens when trying to delete photos also; the app deletes a photo other than the one selected for deletion. These issues don’t happen constantly, but consistently enough to make the app extremely frustrating to use! FYI, this happens with .HEIC and .JPEG, I am not using this app to edit RAW.
The absolute greatest.
by blondesarntdorks on 2017/10/27 18:31
Was a long time VSCO user, but I’ve officially converted. Dark Room is so much more powerful, and it’s not just throwing filters over your images (although, their selection is great there too). Love that the edits can be saved right to my camera roll, so I don’t have to be constantly uploading and downloading to edit. Overall, Dark Room is seamless, powerful and a must-have tool for creating better photographs.
Best iPhone Photo Editing App
by The Other Elf on 2019/02/18 23:49
I like this app for editing RAW photos I take with my iPhone. While currently I don’t use it for photos from my DSLR, if my next body has Bluetooth/WiFi, I certainly will. One feature I think it is missing is local adjustments. While that might be a tall order for an iPhone app, I’d love to see it happen. I do wish the highlight/shadow tools were less destructive on RAW photos. They behave like they’re adjusting a jpg even on RAW. The temperature tool could also be a little more powerful.
AMAZING APP
by MattAttack874747 on 2017/11/22 21:40
I have always used the photo editing options built right into the iPhone because that was the best that was out there, until this app came out, I have had the free version for a while but I decided to shell out the extra cash or the full version and boy oh boy it was worth it! I love the easy to use interface and the ability to edit raw pictures. Now there is a few things I think would be nice features: 1. Ability to open right from the photos app so I don’t have to leave the photos app to edit my pictures. Actually that’s it, this app is so good it doesn’t need much and it could totally go with out that but I thought it would be a cool addition. Great job guys, this app is really a masterpiece!
Intuitive user interface!
by Danielle Pan on 2019/06/15 23:15
After playing around with some of the editing tools (love that you can try out the paid tools before purchase!) I’ve decided that their app is the most comprehensive and intuitive. I would love if you could display presets/filters in a grid-like or continuous scroll design, favorite them, and rearrange the order. It’s time consuming to manually click each preset and remember which ones I like better or worse.
Comments to the developer
by Notapaidreviewer on 2019/08/21 06:31
Here's a warning sign. Unless an app is mainstream and Apple recommends it, one should think twice before downloading. If it's not common, don't be fooled into their recommendations. The other thing is the developer or whomever is replying to the feedback comments should leave this to the pros. Responses like "to each their own" and developer whining how much effort goes into an app or costs are simply childish, unprofessional and add no value. There's many excellent free or little cost apps out there. The inappropriate responses provided by the developer is another reason not to download any of their products in my opinion. Of course, to each their own ;)
Loved it!
by Alondrachapa47290 on 2017/10/08 03:48
I’ve been using this app for almost two years? I think. And I literally loved everything about the update except for the highlights/shadows at the bottom. I am disappointed to know that the “white” shade is gone from the colors provided I really hope you bring it back since it was what I used the most! please bring it back! also I love the vibrance editing as well.
Incredibly responsive!
by johna30305 on 2019/04/24 00:21
I am an amateur photographer. But I must say that Darkroom takes my photos to a whole new level! Recently, I thought that I was experiencing an issue, and after a couple of emails to their feedback address, Jasper explained where I could find the screenshots album in the app. I would highly recommend Darkroom to anyone who uses their smartphone as their primary camera!
Amazing editor, great drop in replacement for Photos
by sitheris on 2019/03/11 03:06
I’ve switched from editing in Apple Photos to Darkroom (using RAW captures from Halide) and it has drastically improved my mobile photography beyond what I could imagine. Darkroom is a great editor and I absolutely love the workflow and editing control it provides. My only gripe is that sometimes the app crashes when zooming in on RAW captures, but other than that I highly recommend Darkroom for any serious mobile photographers.
Great on iPhone—iPad support?
by CdrSpock on 2018/10/05 05:34
I really enjoy using Darkroom to edit photos quickly on my phone, but I sometimes like to take all my photos from the day and edit them on my iPad. Darkroom could be really awesome on the iPad, too, but all we have access to for the moment is a scaled-up version of the phone interface, which is less than ideal. The larger screen of the iPad makes more precise editing possible, so it’s a shame I have to use different apps on each platform to take advantage of it.
Big fan of Darkroom! 4.5 stars
by Malik Blasingame on 2019/03/24 02:11
I moved to Darkroom from Lightroom CC about 2 months ago now since I’d rather pay a one-time fee rather than a subscription. My experience with Darkroom has been great! However, the only thing keeping me from purchasing the full app are the lack of a few key features: - Selective Adjustments (this is the main one) - Healing tool (spot removal) - Noise Adjustment These are listed as future features on Darkroom’s website, so hoping these will be coming very soon (especially the selective tool!). Nonetheless, Darkroom has been wonderful for my photo editing, and I highly recommend it! 😄 P.S. This is my first time writing an app review. I decided it was worth doing so for Darkroom since I’ve gotten lots of value from the app and wish to see it succeed. 🙂
iPad version!
by mebejessie on 2018/12/18 16:46
I love that there’s now landscape mode and a bigger screen for iPad users like myself but I’m still bummed about the curves tool because it’s very limiting since it’s already set up in dots and you can’t get the result you actually want by adjusting and instead of getting images to look vibrant they are dull. It’s great for tweaking edited photos with color for me but it’s not a great standalone editor because the curves is just a huge let down which is why I can only give it 3 stars. Thanks for the update!
iOS13 is bad
by Taylor.Lynn on 2019/09/22 19:14
This used to be my favorite editing app.

Crashes!!!
by Linerd0704 on 2020/01/13 06:57
The functionality and the presets are fine, but when importing large RAW files the app constantly crashes.

Please fix.

Darkroom is an amazing photo editor, it seamlessly integrates with Halide. I’m excited for the app to become available on the Mac with Catalyst. Highly recommend with Serious photographers / iPhoneograhers
No white balance?
by Metageek2017 on 2019/12/22 16:36
How do you create a RAW editor and leave out white balance? It's one of the most important reasons to shoot in RAW.

Until something is better I don’t think any app should be charging.

by hexkaster on 2019/11/08 04:12

Crashes and lacking some features
by Thesaint2332 on 2019/10/29 00:12

Crashes galore
by Clams Maloney on 2019/10/26 01:16

by Don'tWantToType on 2019/10/25 13:33

Imports into camera roll Horizontal
by jitnb on 2019/10/02 12:35
I’m new to the app, so far I like it. Only problem when I save it into my camera roll (iphone11 pro), it imports everything horizontally. Can’t figure it out!

New update version keep crushing down!
by qqqchun on 2019/09/29 20:15
It’s a great ios raw image editor, image doesn’t have to import like the others. Another great thing is after editing could replace the original or return to original. But cannot enter the APP now... please do help solve the issue!
Crashing
by ivee_dee_unicorn on 2019/09/29 16:43
Been using darkroom for awhile and I Love the app!! It’s really my go-to but Lately I’ve been trying to open the app and as soon as I tap it it takes me out of the app. I can’t even get into the app anymore and it’s disappointing. I’m really hoping that this problem is fixed soon because I would hate to delete it.

App crashes
by Mighty Alfonzo on 2019/09/28 18:57
This used to be my go to app but now it crashes upon tapping to open it. Will update once fixed, but it’s unusable at the moment. iPhone 7 Plus, 12.1.3.
Why😭

I love this app but now with the new update I can’t open Darkroom. 😭😭😭😭
Simple and fun.

Extremely easy to use. Really useful.

Photo Editing
by joelsierrapr on 2019/09/24 01:00
iOS13 is bad
by Taylor.Lynn on 2019/09/22 19:14
This used to be my favorite editing app.
Great app
by Jafrich on 2019/09/21 04:37

Unexpectedly Great!

I just bought this app the’e other day, and i will tell you.. i am a small photographer creating my own work and this app is perfect for bigger to smaller effects. from colors, to sharpness, to fading and noice reductions, and many more things. i use this app for my instagram, and - wow!

Love it.
Good stuff
by smelting on 2018/08/24 06:37
I purchased premium right away.
