A decent version of an ancient game

I’ve tried a number of Majong games online. This one is pretty decent, but perhaps too many gimmicks.

by SparkyMikeMan on 2020/10/22 03:53
I would personally like to see that the items to put collections together with be cheaper with gems. The game also doesn’t reward you with very many of those items when you complete a level. The game is forcing you to buy rather than to continue to play the game to earn more items. I enjoy the graphics and progression of the game. I would like to see people earning more stuff and working to complete the game on their own merit.
Expensive!

Frustrated
by mclindad on 2020/10/21 02:13
When I first started I was hooked. Now I feel like I just can’t get anywhere and feel like what you charge for extras is excessive. It wasn’t that expensive at first and I’d buy them. Now I just quit when I run out of lives or can’t win diamonds or pumpkins anymore. Just not as much fun as it was. I’m ready to quit.

Levels not being available
by hfvhcxz on 2020/10/20 03:12
I don’t understand why they lock the game after a certain level and say more levels coming soon. Then it takes months for the levels do come up. Shouldn’t this have all been done before the game could be played? Why have a game when levels aren’t ready to be played?
Frustrating

While I am periodically stumped on a level for repeated attempts, the ability to change regions is a good way to avoid frustration. My companion often assists on particularly annoying ones. When we go back and forth, I notice two different play styles almost always clears the board. Boo tends to choose pieces across from each other with greater distances. I tend to choose pieces based on layers and edges. I am wishing the mansion story let us be more creative. Maybe after we find our parents we can decorate our own areas.

I agree w the senior citizen re: cost of playing the game. U say u can play for free w/o purchases. This is true, however, very frustrating. I did so for many months. Got nowhere. Please make earning/winning tokens & diamonds easier. Refuse to PAY for anything. Playing feels like playing on the slot machines at the casino. No skill really needed. Opportunities to win/earn more tokens will encourage MORE playing. Have stopped playing for months at a time because can’t progress any further. At least the multiple Candy Crush games are much more generous with rewards and incentives to play. Too bad Mahjong Journey is cheap with rewards.

It has taken longer than expected to figure out how to collect items and decide what to do with them. I’m not sure why sometimes you have to use in game currency to complete a collection. Toggling back and forth between the mansion and game play still confuses me. However, I still love the classic mahjong style of game play with different boards and symbols so I spend quite a bit of time enjoying game play.

No Special Avatar for challenges
by thomdeb on 2020/10/11 16:19
I hope this new Easter egg hunt will let me have the avatar at the end. Even though on four previous challenges I have completed everything I could not get the avatar in the end. Still not able to get the avatar even though everything else is complete. I suspect there may be a glitch somewhere because I have completed all levels and gotten rewards for all special collections but it shows that I only have 29/30 of the special items. Oh, well. My game”blew up” in the 1300’s and made me start back at 135. Boooo! I didn’t play for awhile I was so upset about it. I have finally started playing again and do enjoy it but it’s not quite the same. Oh, well. I guess you get what you pay for.🤣☹️

I enjoy the game but am often frustrated that it is necessary to purchase game pieces . I am a senior citizen and I cannot spend money on game pieces that would be needed for other necessary items be it paying a bill or buying groceries. When you live on a budget it can make games have to take a backseat. I often find myself wishing I understood the game more. When I first started playing I had trouble following how the game should be played and still find myself scratching my head over what to do next. I realize you are in the money making business on these games but couldn’t you come up with a game for seniors that would not require that you purchase game pieces. Surely you can understand that just because you are an older person doesn’t mean you do not enjoy playing a game but are limited in playing since it cost money to play. If I were a professional game player I could understand the game wanting you to pay to play. I will continue to play the game but when it gets to the point that I go against my principles and my wallet then at that I will no longer be able to go forth and prosper. I mean it’s not like a person makes money off of wins, you are however wanting people to play to be able to play. I have found on other games that I use to enjoy playing that they are now charging people to pay to play. Where is the fun in that. Thank you for allowing an older person to vent my frustrations.
Would like it so much more if only...
by Uhuhamen on 2019/05/03 04:34
Find this relaxing as it focuses my mind on something irrelevant (the game) such that it can't be running over and dwelling on everything else life is throwing at me. The music is a great aid in that. However, the zen is shattered by all the annoying ads for all their copycat games, especially when accompanied by their jarring energetic music which you can't turn off or even cut short. Out of all those games and characters there is no non-white ethnic representation--no, the extremely stereotyped Japanese guys don't give you points in that area. It becomes increasingly difficult to progress without buying and using cheats, which I don't think is right; you should be able to complete w skill and perseverance alone. I wonder if it's even physically possible to tap that many tiles in 1.5 or 2 minutes, much less search, match, and tap. I dislike that the timer always keeps going for 3 seconds after you finish the game, but lately it even adds 30 second to my time before comparing to the cutoff, making it impossible to progress. Another bug is that the daily log-in sometimes won't accept input, or skips, or erases your progress. The constant nagging for donations or in-app purchases disrupts the good feeling that would be generated and assures that I will NOT reward that nagging with my $.
This game is addictive!
by Bdbpr on 2020/05/07 18:21
I really enjoy playing this game but I don't understand why there are requirements to achieve a certain number of stars to move to the next level. The timing to achieve 3 stars is generally so fast that I don't have a ghost of a chance to do better than one star. I'd like to move forward but I find myself having to play the same level over and over in hopes of adding stars to advance. Update: I enjoy the extra mahjong cakes that are offered. Last one was required hot air balloons to play and this time it requires surfboards. I'm frustrated because there should be a way to earn surfboards without paying and there is not. Perhaps there's a bug in the game. Update: I've gotten stuck at the end of another level without sufficient points to keep moving. I don't plan to pay to keep moving to new levels so I'm starting from the beginning on my phone. It's fun but only if you can achieve forward progress. I suspect that when I get stuck next time, I'll delete the game because it's too frustrating to not be able to start new levels. Update#2: I took about a two year break from the game and just started playing it again. It’s enjoyable but I wish there was a way to ask friends to give you a life so you didn’t have to shut down the game while you’re still having fun.
Good but still needs work
by ambertalsma on 2017/10/21 23:35
I love the game but I've had issues with purchasing gems also I've lost and when I go to retry the level it didn't give me any tiles to play with so it ended up costing me 3 lives. It would be nice if there was extra ways to get gems since for some reason the game won't let me purchase anymore. But all in all I love the game I just would like more gems. Ok months later and I do enjoy some of the repairs they've made but I'm having one issue and it's a silly one. Say I just finished level 9 in one of those 30 day challenges it sometimes when I click next completely bypasses level 10 and goes to 11. It's weird! Still love the game though. Still needs work the diamonds need to be cheaper and the cost of playing special levels lower. Some of them in the last one were 30 flowers or whatever to play the level. Then you die and hafta pay it again. We all know you’re making plenty of $ off of this game so make it so the die hards like me can afford more.
Newest special event
by mawmaw19471 on 2019/07/02 05:38
I have to say that I have become VERY frustrated with this last quest that is going on now. I worked through the necessary 25 levels just to find that “this time” there is an additional step before obtaining the daily gift item. I understand that you are just increasing the need to spend more $ in the games but I think it is a little greedy on your part. I regularly spend money on G5 games. Now you have added this additional twist that requires you go back through the special levels to find additional items to complete the quest. And the really irritating thing is that you have to use the required tokens (stars) to get into the level to get a chance at finding the necessary item. I have just completed one level 6 times and have yet to get the necessary item. Instead I get nothing and have to try again, using more tokens to get back into the game to try again. I guess you can tell that I am very frustrated but I am 72 years old and have been playing G5 games for a few years now. It is a good way to relax and also have some mild mental challenge. I currently play Mahjong Journey, Secret Society and In the past few months have also been playing Hidden Treasures. I purchase items in each of these games to make them enjoyable and not frustrating. However, I notice that you have also added a switch up in Hidden Society and I am seriously considering dropping all 3 games and move on to other, less enjoyable games. Thank you for listening.
Like the game.
by Queen of Frustration on 2020/09/14 20:15
I like this game, but have found over the last couple days, since I started playing again, that it is frustrating. The side game is very difficult. I was trying to use that game to gain coins to “renew” the mansion, but it uses way too many acorns and it is way too difficult to get 5-stars to help build the pyramid. I have spent hours and many boosts trying to get 5-stars & just trying to complete the level/game. You have to complete each collection, in order, to move forward to the next collection. I don’t know if it is me or the game, but I have been unable to collect items for each collection the first time I complete each game. Then, to obtain the collection items, I have to go back and replay the same games. To get the boost, or whatever, to put the collection together, I have had to go back to the start of each area and replay each game, multiple times, trying to collect these other items, frequently ending with “Sorry, you found no items. Please try again.” You ending up playing the same games/levels over and over again, but still end up spending diamonds/gems to complete the collections. The coins are only found the first time you play each game/level, so you spend the majority of your time trying to gets items for the mansion repair & collections, but not getting the coins needed to move forward with the mansion repair. At times, it starts feeling like a big waste of time.
Challenging, Addictive but Time Consuming
by autobotashley on 2019/01/23 17:23
I’ve been playing this game off and on for about 2-3 years. It’s challenging and relaxing but only when there is significant progress being made. I’ve encountered, like other reviewers, levels where it continually makes it so I cannot win the level. The need to sometimes decide which tiles to choose is sometimes an welcome added challenge, but more often than not it leads to losing the level which will lead to my biggest and hugest complaint of the game: the heart replacement counter. I understand after using up a life that you’ll need to wait a certain amount of time to let it recharge, but the wait of 30 MINUTES PER LIFE is way too long of a wait. When you use all your lives up, sometimes on one level in the span of 10 minutes WITH boosts, you’ll have to wait almost 2+ hours to play with full lives again & that is one of my hugest complaints that I hope will be addressed. The price of boosts too, the in app purchases is also very overpriced. I can understand 99¢ to $4.99 for boosts but a minimum usable amount of diamonds for $4.99 to be able to get anything to use in the game to make progress is slightly unreasonable. I love this game, and I hope that the main issue, the heart regeneration rate, can openly be improved so I may be able to play more often as the game, legitimately, is addicting and invigorating.
Change a few tiny details get 5 stars
by Natashatrip on 2019/02/07 14:16
My original review was more positive than this one & I gave 4 stars but because I’ve had more than a couple days of experience in playing, I’ve discovered you’ve made some of the levels so impossible to reach 3 stars to progress, that it makes me more frustrated than stress free. The time limit is absolutely impossible to beat on some of the levels. I realize most “free apps” have a goal to get the player so addicted that they eventually spend money at some point but it’s too expensive & is starting to get a bit redundant when I use up all my lives trying to beat ONE level & having to wait half an hour to get a life. I think u should tweak a few things like making the time limit a little less impossible to meet, give more boosters or prize boxes for completing goals & making purchases a little less expensive. if that were to happen, this game would most definitely get 5 stars & id recommend this to all my stressed out or bored friends. I’m just not that secure about positive endorsing at this point. It’s an extremely fun & challenging game & does relieve stress in the beginning but within no time, you’re basically stuck unless u make a purchase. I’m close to deleting because I’ve tried for a week to beat a level that’s just simply impossible to do unless I purchase a booster.
entertaining game
by Elisabeth630101 on 2019/12/05 09:49
Very undertaining but quite addictive game. In Mahjong matching tiles must be found. In this version of the gane the idea is to discover two gold tiles. The game takes you through a type of journey. In the beginning it is quite easy but soon enough it will become harder and harder. Parallel to this journey there is an additional game alternative which is linked to a seasonal event like Thanksgiving or Christmas. You can use the boosters for support or fun. The boosters can be achieved as a prize from a game or a series of games or bought in a store. As an additional motivation there are collections where you want to find a series of items. I really enjoy playing Mahjong. It takes my mind away and distracts me which I personally find relaxing. The games are progressively getting harder and harder which can be quite frustrating. Nevertheless I always find the solution at some time and can keep going. There are many other versions of Mahjong. What I love about this version is the lovely design of every detail. The team puts a lot of effort in the appearance of the game. It doesn’t look tinky or outdated, it‘s simply fun to look at the colourful background and the tiles, too.
Frustrating
by Deborific1 on 2018/11/17 23:14
I play games to help distract me from the stresses in everyday life, and chose Mahjong Journey because of the beautifully drawn tiles. I enjoyed moving to a new country and discovering new tiles which offer a challenge for several levels until I learn them. Love the mini games and monthly challenge! I can’t wait to see the next country. However, of all the Mahjong games I’ve played over many years, this one has the highest ratio of boards that I lose. I often use my 5 lives and get nowhere. Yes, my moves can affect the outcome, but getting down to the final two and having one on top of the other happens way too often. Is it intentional to encourage players to buy more? Last year my raise was $2 per month, so that’s not going to happen. You have created a game that is beautiful and interesting. It’s too bad that it’s not user friendly. I just played for 5 days and still cannot move to the next level. I don’t play to be stressed & frustrated. What’s the point if making it so hard? Again I’ve played day after day with no progress, just loss after loss with an occasional win that still gives only one star. Is this actually a psych test to see how long someone will continue to play while continually getting beat up? I keep coming back in hope of a change in my favor and hope this time I won’t return. Perhaps you can make a new version for children. Call me if you do.
Disappointed
by Evy Itchybum on 2019/09/12 09:38
Honestly I’d have to say this is one of the best mahjong game I have ever played. Yet I’m terribly disappointed it is so hard to move on. No matter how many tries i do. It is nearly impossible to get 3 stars. In most mahjong games you win for the most part. In this game you lose for the most part and have to reshuffle or use a life. Their are times I’ve had to reshuffle like 3 times per game. And it cost me money it is not cheap either. I’d say over priced. 99.9% of the games you always have to reshuffle. If you use up your life’s the waiting span to get more is unbearable. Terrible, frustrating. Whenever you win those boost you get are usually ones I barely use and have enough on. You should instead give reshuffles and more life’s and those are the most used ones. Or reward us with diamonds to assist us in purchasing more boost. The firecracker boost I don’t even use no more. As for the most part instead of eliminating the tiles to help you go through the game. It makes me lose and I have to start over. The music is nice and soothing. Please change it every so often. It gets annoying to hear the same over and over again. I guest I may have to give up this game as it is come to the point I can’t afford it. You need to make lots of changes. I’ve read your reviews most are negative. We all have basically the same concerns.
Suspicious Updates
by WJaMhIll on 2019/04/01 14:11
I have played this game for 10 months. Like other players, I find progress gets impeded unless you’re willing to plunk down a few bucks. I get frustrated, but ultimately conclude that it’s a free game and the developers’ rules, so I can play or not. I play until I lose a life or two, then cease playing until another day. My one-star is about a new tactic G5 recently implemented: You now update from within the game. NO-NO-NO! Every app and its updates are vetted by Apple or Google when playing on their devices and obtained through their store(s). Within the last few weeks, I’ve discovered my progress on this game impeded by a requirement that I download updates (additional maps and the like) from within the game, and I find that enormously suspicious. I’ve had Apple devices for a decade or more and have never encountered this before. I thought it was a bug, and that I should report it. So I sought to contact G5 directly to voice my concerns. Unfortunately, they do not want to speak to a human being (even digitally, via email). The contact requirements are Game Center or Facebook. I have neither (for that matter, I want neither...). So G5 creates an update round-about that evades vetting processes coupled with an inability to contact them. I’ve never worn a tin-foil hat, but this reeks of suspicious activity.
Mahjong Journey

Hello, I have been playing this particular game for the last four years...I always recognize the old gentleman and the little girl. Actually I recognize them from further back, now that I think on it. So, every few years, I find it again, and start it anew. Usually I just play it until either it changes or I do. This time my life changed drastically. And when that happened, I was very happy to have this game show up again in this brand new adventure. And on my iPad. Thank you for all the added adventures. And the games within games...and the treasure chests. I blew one of those so bad, I lost four times in a row. Waited a few days, then came back and finally won. Success. Now I finally made it to a new level...whew! And with the update will be able to play longer. I have asked many family members to play it, but am not sure anyone tried. But I Love It! Thanks for all your hard work. And being an artist, I wish I had taken computer programming also, in college. But, as an artist I truly appreciate your work...all of you. Thanks...Kaydee Chamberlain
It’s not my cup of tea, but that’s mostly a matter of taste
by arblgrv on 2018/08/05 22:19
This is a reasonably fun game with a lot of variants, layers of bright cutesy graphics and a whole lot going on in general. There are a lot of games that look like this one: fantastical scenes densely littered with small brilliantly-colored icons that don’t stop sparkling or moving about. The intended audience seems to be preteens, especially given how sugary sweet and overly cute it all is. To me this style of game design only manages to be distracting and annoying. I don’t want to waste time waiting for things like the floating glove to point toward the next level before I can get on with playing. My second major issue is the pay-for-cheats aspect. I play to test my skill, I want to win or lose fairly playing a challenging board. To me, having the option to buy out of a losing game is counter to the whole point of playing in the first place. It creates fake wins, so what’s the point? On the positive side: the boards so far are neither stupidly simple or unreasonably hard, the tiles are easy to read and there are a lot of different card sets with unusual designs (though here again they tend to have a cartoonish/coloring book feel).
My favorite mahjong game
by 51debh on 2018/11/07 12:53
This game is challenging and addicting, I finally found a game I can beat my children at! Love how the different levels keep it interesting. I have told all my friends to try and when they did, they love it as well. The new levels are addictive and it is my go to game! Enjoy the new levels but wish just a little more time could be allowed to beat the game. I love the new levels and the colors you use, think this is my favorite! Thank you for adding the treasures chests as well, little difficult at times because once you lose you need to start from beginning, would be more helpful if you could just go from where you lost. The newest updates you added finding the pieces and earning helps I cannot get enough of. Really enjoy this game!! Enjoy the new challenges that have been added that give you many options when playing the game! I love this game and it is the one I go to several times a dayEach new level has been fun to try and beat and have enjoyed sharing this game with all my friends!
Used to be better....
by ChalleN75 on 2020/04/09 19:10
Sadly I am getting very frustrated with Mahjong.... to the point of not wanting to playing at all anymore. The levels used to be fun, I have definitely enjoyed the addition of “free the kitty” levels to break the monotony of the same levels we play over and over again, BUT now the levels are becoming increasingly hard to pass (especially the side quest levels, like the Easter egg quest right now). It makes it so you can’t pass without using a booster, and I RARELY have ever had to use them. Are you purposely doing this to force people into buying items?? Because that’s how it feels.... I play the game to relax and unwind at the end of the day, I don’t need one more frustration, especially feeling like I have to spend money to even enjoy the game anymore!! From some other reviews I’ve read, I’m not the only player who feels this way. If that’s all your game is going to become, then I am done and will be passing the word on to my family and friends playing it as well. There are sooooo many more games out there to choose from, games just like this one, wouldn’t be a hard choice to make if I don’t need to buy items just to play a game that is supposed to be fun and enjoyable!
Players Beware! Don’t buy anything from this game!!!!
by Mikiesgirl on 2019/02/01 01:51
Just paid for diamonds & didn’t get them! Matter of fact I didn’t get the 15 diamonds I bought but the game stole the 34 diamonds I had. 34 + 15 I should had 49 diamonds. The game left me with 9 diamonds! Must a SCAM to take your money. I emailed them & today have not gotten a response!! Players beware don’t buy anything. Going to delete this app... My first review when I thought inconsistencies were a glitch! No glitch it’s the game & those who developed it! If you are a regular player as I am, you can win boosters if you play daily. But if you skip a day which I rarely do the player looses that days booster. The game asks you if you want to maintain your chain by using your diamonds or if you want to buy diamonds if you don’t have enough. The catch, very often the game tells me that I’ve broken the daily chain even if you played the day before therefore not breaking the chain. The game doesn’t give you an option to challenge the fact you played the day before. Since the game is free to play I’m wondering if this is intentional to make money??? Something to think about. Other than that glitch I enjoy playing the game. PS there’s no way to communicate with those who maintain the game!
The graphics are fun but there is far too much, interfering with game play
by Countrygirl2of6 on 2018/09/14 06:20
Every change made worsens the game. This latest change away from an actual timer on levels to the non-specific time bar is horrible because there is no way to tell how close you are to earning all three stars. The red curtain opening and closing between games is just plain annoying, contributes nothing to the game, seems calculated to upset player concentration, and just makes one more action that slows play down. Are you trying to irritate your clients or what, or is that the only thing designers could think of to tie in to the Sydney Opera House? Hopefully it will go away with the next level?! Okay. It didn’t go away. More is the pity. Pretty much finished with the endless ads before, during, at the end of play, and randomly scattered any time the game is open. Too bad you’ve wrecked a once-fun game. Thank you for at least removing that screen that was always begging for money to support the developers. Now if you could see your way clear to offering a version without 15 breaks for selling other games in a purchase version that would be great.
Not consistent...
by popoki#44 on 2020/01/10 01:07
I was looking to just send an email to the company to give them feedback but it appears as though it can only be done publicly 😐🤷🏻‍♀️ I do enjoy playing the game however it is very inconsistent. After an update the same levels and areas I’ve played before can either be dramatically easier or harder!! A level that I previously scored 3 stars ⭐️ on easily at an earlier date took me ove 40 tries to just get the level completed!!!! And that wasn’t even concerning myself with how many stars earned. And today my daily reward that I was really looking forward to having was not given because daylights saving time was not recognized! 😤😤😤 That was disappointing and frustrating. Since we can only leave feedback here, I just want to tell the developers that I REALLY enjoyed the addition of the “free the cats” as part of the Christmas theme!!! It was enjoyable and refreshing to have a different goal to work towards other than the gold cards!!!!! The graphics and “personalities “ of the cars was much enjoyed!! Hope you add them in to another version soon!!!
Go away

I am so sick of seeing this ad like every 20 seconds while I’m playing another game. I have downloaded this game. Still the ad persists. I have played this game but never will again because it repeatedly requests I download and play this game I already have. Keep track of your customers and quit bugging them endlessly once they have done all of the above. I would rather look at a blank screen for 30 secs. Between levels of the game I’m trying to play than ever see this ad again. I’m adding on to this review. If I have to see this ad one more time I think I may just throw my iPad out the window. I have downloaded it I have played it I don’t need to see one more ad for it. Find a way to keep track of who has already played your game and then leave them alone. Quit bugging me to download a game that at this point you couldn’t pay me to play. I just gave it 2 stars cause you wouldn’t post it when I only gave it one star which is what I wanted to give it. Once again I don’t see it posted. Aren’t you just an honest, upfront little company. Seems your a little deceptive to me. So now I’ll try three stars to see if you’ll post it but really I would like to give it ONE star.
Challenging, but addictive fun!
by JMRoberts on 2017/12/26 17:37
Mahjong Journey is a fun, entertaining game that is always changing-making it impossible to get bored with! I love the extra seasonal levels, but after nearly six months of playing, I have yet to get three stars on all 30 bonus levels-leaving me quite frustrated, but nevertheless willing to jump back in at the next promotion. I too, am a perfectionist and rarely can move on unless I have shown mastery of the level with 3 stars-this has become increasingly difficult as the game has progressed and has often left me feeling like giving up altogether. I do wish that the game offered incentives for those levels where multiple pairs are matched within a quick period of time or perhaps a bonus for time remaining on the clock. Overall a great game, but for the game writers, if you are reading the reviews, many of us are hoping for a little less frustration or at the very least, an easier way of achieving some additional incentives.
Indonesia tiles are terrible
by mm5la on 2018/01/23 17:31
I just got to Indonesia. The face tiles are ridiculously difficult to tell apart. As I’m guessing I get penalized when clicking on the wrong pairs and the game adds 10 second intervals to my time. I’ve managed to solve the puzzles but it takes me so long that I only receive 1 star. One level took me over 11 minutes to complete. It’s simply too difficult to get anything better than 1 star, so I know I won’t be able to progress to the next city. The game was already challenging through Japan but I got through it. This is where us free users get forced out of the game. I refuse to pay money for fake gems, boosters, lives etc. I like a good challenge and so far I was able to repeat levels until I could get 2-3 stars and keep moving even though it took me a while. I still have most of my boosters in inventory because I don’t like to rely on them at all. So I guess I’ll use them up to help get some extra stars in Indonesia but I don’t expect to make it through. I expect to be deleting this game very soon :(
Mahjong Quest
by PuzzerFan1955 on 2017/09/20 13:56
Fun but frustrating game. Love playing the game to the point I have trouble stopping. Never give you a fair amount of time to earn three stars. But it won't stop me from still trying and trying and trying.............. lol. Higher levels do not give enough time to even come close to even win two stars let alone three stars. I have played each level repeatedly (at least 50 times each) and have successfully won only one star. The time allowed is ridiculous. Less than two minutes to solve a puzzle that is huge. My fastest time was 3:02 and I hit that time or within a couple of second fifteen times out of forty-seven times. More time needs to be added to the larger puzzles to make them possible to win instead of impossible. Allowing a 1:50 to solve a puzzle that you should give at least 2:50 or 3:20 to so one has a chance at coming close to getting two stars would be nice.
Getting Better
by Creativevoice7 on 2019/06/28 05:38
It's a fun game and kind of addictive. Fun to play because it causes you to really concentrate, and learn to make the right moves at the right time. Some puzzles are easier than others, and some you have to pause, walk away and then come back. It is rather pricey since you can't move forward to higher levels, without paying real cash. That takes away from the fun of playing. There should be a rewards system based on how quickly you can solve the puzzle, and be given lanterns, diamonds or snowflakes as a bonus, instead of forcing you to pay to go to the next level or series of puzzles. Losing hearts at least gives you 5 opportunities to get it right, but some puzzles take longer than that. Despite the fact that it makes me crazy when I can’t move to the next level, or finish a collection and find that one missing piece, it’s a really fun and great game.
Fun but too difficult at high levels and special games
by VeeTee9 on 2017/09/21 01:50
I agree with many of the other reviewers, the game is challenging yet there isn't enough time at the higher levels. Also entirely too difficult to win awards. Needs more rewards and make it simpler to earn gems. The daily spin needs to also to provide more shuffles. Understandably you want people to spend money and buy boosters but when you can't get through a level without buying them, it's time to quit playing, IMO. I am a Mahjong enthusiast and have played for 20 plus years but this game is way too difficult, the rewards are too few, and inadequate time is allotted to get through a level. Love this version but I stop p,sting until I can build up enough rewards to get through a country and earn enough stars to move through the gate. Just my opinion. Once the frustration exceeds the fun, I will stop playing. Lastly what is the issue with the friends? Cannot contact them, cannot add or delete them, and the game keeps promising, next update? Ugh....

I enjoy this game a lot but I would like to request changing the red screen to blue. Are you aware that the bright red color could damage the eyes & cause blurry vision & also can cause seizures in people with seizure disorder? I can only tolerate this game for a short time as my eyes starts to get blurry. I had cataract surgery in both eyes. I could play much longer if the screen is changed from red to blue or another more soothing color. Please consider this request. Thank you. You give such short time to get the puzzle done. You do not give enough time to get such an intricate & difficult puzzle done. Is this your ploy to get players to buy more lives? Please be generous & give a longer time frame to do your puzzles. I love your game but if it gets too costly to play it I will have o delete it. I ave observed that you end the game before the allotted time. This is not right. You are cheating. You end the game faster so that the player loses the 5 lives &I will have to buy your diamonds to continue. Of all the games I played yours is the most deceptive. If this continues Zi will delete you.
Designed to force people to buy “extras”
by Courageous_angel on 2018/12/12 00:15
The basic design is nice, though the story line never engaged me because it seemed like it was missing something & not well written. I enjoy the themed challenges, but from the very beginning, just logging into the game, I am asked to buy at least 2 or 3 separate things. So I click through all that. Then, after playing aboard or two, I come to “a commercial” where I am offered to buy another game. Ok, it’s a free app so I just clicked through all that too. But after having this game for less than a year, I’ve come to a point where I can’t get enough stars to move on to the next level, and even the monthly themed “event coins” are in the other side of the gate I can’t get through. I’ve attempted for a week to win more stars on the boards on the level I’m currently on (yes, you can beat a board, but not do it well enough to move on to the next level). The only thing I seem to be able to do is buy things to move forward. I refuse to be frustrated, so I’m just deleting the app. Games that lead by being free but then subtly force you to buy something to play is just crap.
Great game that is actually good for the brain
by B the FF on 2018/10/21 08:01
Im addicted! I play 10 - 20 rimes a day! I think this is the best game that actually is good for your brain Great game for memory Objective is to remove domino to reach and remove 2 gold tile 3 stars per level but even if you get 1 star you get to go to next level Except you will want to replay level until you achieve 3 stars There are also mini games within the Mahjong game it uses the same concept But by achieving 3 Star on all levels within mini game which is only about 4 levels long you get prizes like lives and boosters It also has a challenge game to play with the same concept except to play levels in challenge you must collect symbols in the regular levels and if you get 3 stars on regular levels you get the symbols needed to play the challenge games You also get prizes in the challenge levels if you get 3 stars per level per section is how you earn prizes Also the faster you complete any level is how you earn the 3 stars Plus daily bonus for playing everyday I love this game because it makes you think it also makes you compete against the time and helps your brain and memory skills Plus there are no ads and you are not repeatedly shown to purchase anything It shows it when you open app and that’s it Plus nice soothing background music I love this game! Finger Hovering Over Delete Button
by JenMomma5476 on 2019/10/23 17:16
First, let me say that I loved this game. Yes. Loved. Past tense. As other long time players have noted in their reviews, the last update has ruined the game. The multiplier being reset to 2X before unmatched tiles are removed from the board after completing a level has ruined this game. I can not progress to the next area because I don’t have enough stars, which I would have if you had not changed the game play mechanics. Before, it was possible to progress through the game at a steady, albeit slow, pace. I did not even mind needing to go back and repeat levels to find items for quests. It was part of the fun. But now the fun has disappeared. Why the change? Was it by design so that we can only get one star on levels and not earn as many drop items for the monthly event? Or was it simply poor quality assurance testing before the release of the last update? I’m waiting to see if this is fixed in the next update or if it’s time to move on to another game that understands people do not play games just to be frustrated and prevented from making progress.
Getting too hard
by Elle Spelle on 2019/06/19 06:13
Like other reviewers, I’ve found that after awhile the game just becomes impossible. I do think they’re trying to get us to spend more money, but TWO things: 1) stuff is too expensive, and 2) the rewards are getting chinchier and chinchier. That’s slang for NOT ENOUGH REWARDS. I’ve gotten all the major items in many sets but because I don’t have enough chargers or whatever — like brushes or notebooks— I can’t finish and collect goodies. The same items are lacking but now when I go back to lower levels to try to get them, likely as not I will get nothing. As in nothing over and over. And why do I have way more of some things than I need while never getting the last few things? If your customers are willing to keep playing why can’t you reward our persistence?! I’ve spent all I’m going to until I see some progress I didn’t have to pay $10. to get. I get that the superior artwork and research that goes into the game construction is not cheap, but I’d rather watch a few ads than keep paying and hitting brick walls. I hope someone at MJ is actually reading this.
Another frustrated player
by Willowsverge on 2019/04/30 18:13
I think the part that makes me give this a 3 star rating is the frustration of trying to get 3 stars on enough levels to get past the current area. You have to have x amount of stars to get past. If not you cant proceed. You have to keep trying over and over. The difficulty level is far too high to make the game fun at all. Ive missed out on playing the last 2 special games due to not being able to progress and earn whatever the item is for that contest. If you arent getting done with a new area, you dont earn anything. The fact that all your hard work to try and achieve another star gets no credit whatsoever. You get stopped also by running out of lives in such a short period of time. I know its a moneymaker to let it play out this way. However, you are definitely risking putting off folks. I have already been scouting new mahjong games that arent as demanding. I just want to play and not have to appease a timer!
Cheated??
by ...annonymous on 2019/03/29 03:39
Let me honestly say I was so excited and addicted to this game...I LOVED (past tense) this game and couldn't stop trying to advance....until no matter how many times I'd try the same level, I always failed. It has become IMPOSSIBLE to get two or three stars on the levels to advance to the next country...so I went on line to find out how to restart the game and see if I could see anything I missed....the cheats and blogs on line all said the same thing...you can't advance after a certain point without make in app purchases!! What? Why offer such an awesome game, that no one can win, unless they pay money....what a let down :(...... FANTASTIC, FUN, TOTALLY ADDICTING GAME, until you reach that certain level that you can't possibly win....stuck, frustrated and feeling cheated....my rating is middle of the road because it is a great game, but then you are forced to buy....and by the way, ditch the cat..that cat shaking its head and holding its empty paws out makes me want to delete the game...HATE the cat
Major part missing to 5 stars
by ChristinaMarieBSW on 2018/11/14 20:48
Love this game, have a lot of fun, helps w distraction too. Don’t like the business of the screen, having all these options around that mean nothing to game play-like to see them condensed. My biggest issue is the change in scoring. Before it was timed and knew what was expected of you to achieve 1, 2, & 3 stars on each level. Now, I have no idea what is needed to get each star to move onto the next level and ESP unlock the keys to move onto the next section, country, etc. How do you move ahead, continue to be challenged if you create a game that doesn’t tell you, give you markers, how to do that? PLEASE fix this! I’m stuck in the late 500’s levels and have been since I don’t know what is needed to get more stars to unlock the key and move forward. by random player 22 on 2019/08/07 21:44
This truly is one of my favorite games. I love the graphics and the quest that are challenging. I have been playing this game for 3 years now. I wish I could find another similar to it but a little easier so my 5 1/2 year old could join the fun. She absolutely lives playing games with me but most of the games I play are a little more complex for her. Bless her heart she does try though. The only negative thing I might have to say is the number of turns we get in the game. I wish we could get 10 moves not 5. I can not afford to buy the extra moves for I am on Social Security therefore can not buy extra moves. This game is fantastic it keeps me going and is a challenge at times, but I like change of pace sometimes keeps things from going into the boredom phase with a game. If you ever do come out with a similar version for younger minds and skills please let me know. I would love to have the opportunity to try it out for my granddaughter.
Practically requires purchases

This is a fun game IF you make in app purchases. It’s virtually impossible to finish a board without purchasing a boost of some sort. Even a hint is a boost. You get one free every day, but it often takes more than one to clear a board. Another frustration is that once you finally get used to the tiles, you move to a section with new tiles that have similar looks. There are multiple red faced guys in China and Japan as well as men with hats and helmets that are so similar it takes time to sort them out. Update: I got used to these issues and was playing sometimes buying coins to get boosts, but there is now some subscription thing where you get better stuff if you play monthly. Since there are plenty on free games without subscriptions, I am not going to subscribe. There is now the most annoying light up thing that blinks in the top left corner when you make a match. I think it’s called the Supercombo. I’m so not a fan. This is not an improvement. I think I might be done now.

Good, but needs a little work
by AimMeesh71 on 2018/03/31 15:10
Love the game but it’s frustrating when I try to beat a level forever and finally win, but right when I click on the first of two gold tiles, the game force closes. I go back and open it but the level is gone and I’m back to the main map. Also, I have friends and family that are getting into the game. We’ve created accounts for them. We were able to send each other lives one time. You should improve this for your loyal fans to keep them coming back and improve the chances of them getting their friends to sign up so we can all share lives. More players, more play time equals bank for your app. Level 720 is a challenge. There are tiles that are barely covered that you can’t click on and then tiles that are 99% covered that you can? Other than those few little things the game is great!
Mostly fun and challenging
by eschweg on 2020/04/15 22:21
I really like this mahjong game the best except for a couple of things...I wish that you could earn more diamonds and help when you Finnish a set with 3 stars....I also don’t think the the different help like tape measurer etc. is clearly explained...I have 21 tape measurers and have no idea how to use them or how to get them to do anything...otherwise I like the style and design...fun overall even without really understanding how to use the things I win.... Since writing the last time I think it has become better at getting rewards and really like the addition of the cats in the game...fun change...as others have said the pop ups for other games are really annoying...if I wanted to play something else I would look for it in the apps...don’t need them to show up all the time while I’m playing ...thanks...

Still not a fan of the graphics, but they've made winning the games more assessable, so it's back to 4 stars. Still lots of fun. This is a game that I have been playing for a long time. It is fun and challenging and keeps me up way too late at night. However, I am giving it three stars instead of five now. This latest upgrade is ridiculous. The graphics are very childish, the designs on the tiles went from being very intricate to child like drawings. I am not a 12-year-old and don't appreciate a little kitty with big eyes frowning at me because I didn't get the gold tiles. I still dislike the graphics. They have made the levels ridiculously harder, with very few chargers given. You can complete a whole section and not get one charger. Of course, they want you to buy them. It's too bad, I used to give this game 5 stars.
Addicting game...
by Didi🌻 on 2020/02/26 10:57
I do enjoy playing but get quite frustrated (actually ticked off) when the game stops & I'm told that there are no more matching tiles. I am really irate when it happens on the same board 3 & 4 times. I swear the game rigs itself at times. The only reason I continue is that while I do have to pay attention, it's not rocket science. And there is also a lot of satisfaction when I complete a board. Also, this nonsense with collecting items - I have several boards filled with the treasures of the area I'm working but can't collect prizes because I need chargers I have to play the same boards over & over again to collect. Seriously? Either make them easier to find or do away with them all together. It feels like passing your driving test but being told it didn't count & you have to take the test again.

It’s a great game! The many caviats, are you should let the G5 player chose their style and according to the games. For example, Mahjong in Egypt, the tiles have the place, but let the customer play, with tiles of the place/era of his likings. The chose to have from a lot of tiles just 3 at most. And the second observation is the pages are flooded with to many ads or buy this power, and nothing is wrong without as long as the company aligns with the customer. For example, if you want to shuffle your have to buy coins, but not the ones you earn but the coins use mostly, in the difficult moments. Another is you can earn enough blue or purple jewels. Remember, your president, your customers are suffering the pandemic, without money, hard to buy food, and medical situation which causes your customers to download. The game and play it free, with ads, because they want to forget the mischief make the ga mes free.
Fun but frustrating at times
by JJ4892 1 on 2019/01/19 20:13
This game is fun but when you get frustrated. I stop playing for awhile. Too many stars to get to the next level and the timer is annoying. I have had friends with the same issues. They have actually deleted this game because they have spent too much money. I know sometimes you have to pay but it’s ridiculous to not get to the next levels because you require too many stars. I do like the graphics and the challenges but like I said, when it starts too get frustrating, I stop playing and find other games to play. I don’t need the stress. Real life is already stressful. Improvements have been continuous made and that is great. Keep up the improvements please and take this advice and others advice on the their reviews into consideration. Thanks..
Love this game, but....
by FoxFyre001 on 2020/03/24 21:26
I really love this game, but when I reached a higher level, it froze. I reloaded it and started playing again, and again it froze. I don’t think I’ll try again. Enough is enough. Update. I tried again and it worked for awhile, but then it started freezing up again. The red curtain closes and it never opens again unless you re-load it. Tonight, it worked for one game, then froze again... sadly the developers don’t seem interested in fixing this. UPDATE: another freeze out. There are so many glitches in this game that it really makes it difficult to continue enjoying it. I’ll let you know when it happens the next time. Same day a few minutes later. The red curtain comes down never to rise again. Boring. Third update in the last hour. The red curtain closes, never to open again. UPDATE 2 days later. The dreaded red curtain closes again and I must delete and re-download. Isn’t this a fun part of the game! UPDATE the next day - got to play one game before the red curtain dropped. Dunno if i will download again. I really like this game, but....... UPDATE: Got the red curtain AGAIN... love this game but.... UPDATE NEXT DAY: same as above. Red curtain closes and shuts down the game. One would think the developers would execute a permanent fix. But oh no... UPDATE: well the game did what it was supposed to do for about 24 hours since last update. I really get tired of deleting and reloading.
The new upgrade
by silver tip fox on 2018/08/09 16:38
I really don’t like this new upgrade, I enjoyed playing the game, but due to financial issues I can’t make purchases. This upgrade does not change your level, if I complete level 5, the next game is still level not next just retry, I had made it all the way to level 100, but your game wouldn’t let me go to 101 but, I really don’t like how I can’t go to level 6 when I removed all tiles in level 5, and I love how you are cleaver to use those beautiful colors that is what attracted me to your game, and the fact that you can lose it’s not much fun in jus matching 2 kinds, your game is more challenging. So can you explain how I go to the next level when I have completed a level, and I also notice once I get 2 stars on a level even if I win I never complete the 3 stars?
I don’t want to take your survey
by Orchidlady1970 on 2020/04/27 01:19
I don’t want to take your survey, this was one of my first games, you invited me for free and I’m going to hold you to it. I’m not giving you free information that I don’t trust you to handle I just got your bogus answer on safety of my progress! It’s a tile game for Pete’s sake, my progress isn’t important enough to me to not delete this game I’ve played for years. In these uncertain covid times I’m not taking a stupid survey for your clearly untrustworthy reason. Never imagined a Mahjong game would need to be deleted before a slot game or bingo game go figure! Another try from you, I don’t do email, I don’t trust it anymore and I don’t do Facebook! Now it’s the next day and I see you’re still expecting me to delete my beloved mahjong app because you don’t understand the concept of FREE and that I don’t do email or Facebook, haven’t done so in years, not gonna start either one again. Aloha Mahjong Journey, I’ll miss you.
Relaxing but overwhelming
by B.TL on 2019/03/23 08:39
I really like this game. Great graphics! Sometimes is seems as it is strategically set up to fail though. Some levels seem unreasonably unwinnable. There is so much going on in this game with the qu’est and which level leads to where. Collecting items and getting different treasures not sure what it all means or leads to. It is overwhelming when you simply want to play the puzzles. And the constant cost for add one or boosters when you are sure even what they do is a bit annoying. There are so many different charges for everything. I know this seems like it could be a negative critique but I really do like the game...it’s just a lot going on. It should maybe have a simple practice level for those who want to sharpen their skills before embarking on a quest. Thanks
Lots of fun
by 818cole on 2018/03/10 14:28
This game is fun, frustrating at times but keep trying you eventually get past the obstacles. Easier way is to purchase the needed stars, but I personally prefer to solve for them. Fun game but does make it hard unless you save your boosters. I have repeated almost all the levels several, no truthfully many, many times but I did manage to collect stars with a few stumbles along the way. I really like this game, I should go back and do a search to see what other games that may offer. I truly dislike the need to purchase diamonds in order to pass through gates, yet how do you win diamonds, just for purchase? In all I will admit I am addicted to this game and I have gotten my sister in the same addiction, we are now wondering if there is a support group for Mahjong!
Updates are a problem
by kmm-star on 2018/04/07 13:21
Once again, my IPad updated the app yesterday, but it won’t open again today because it says I need to download the update. The problem continues... While I enjoy the challenge of Mahjong Journey, the updates are frustrating. I’ve only played for a few months, but right now, I haven’t been able to play for two days. The App Store says an update was made 6 days ago, yet there’s no update available. When I try to open the app, it says I need to download the update. It takes me to the App Store and the the update isn’t there. It just says open. This happened with the Halloween update, as well. It took days before I could update, causing me to lose my progress playing daily and adding to my inventory. Please correct this. The game is hard enough. Updating it shouldn’t be such a problem!

I would personally like to see that the items to put collections together with be cheaper with gems. The game also doesn’t reward you with very many of those items when you complete a level. The game is forcing you to buy rather than to continue to play the game to earn more items. I enjoy the graphics and progression of the game. I would like to see people earning more stuff and working to complete the game on their own merit.

by mclindad on 2020/10/21 02:13
When I first started I was hooked. Now I feel like I just can’t get anywhere and feel like what you charge for extras is excessive. It wasn’t that expensive at first and I’d buy them. Now I just quit when I run out of lives or can’t win diamonds or pumpkins anymore. Just not as much fun as it was. I’m ready to quit.

by hfvhcxz on 2020/10/20 03:12
I don’t understand why they lock the game after a certain level and say more levels coming soon. Then it takes months for the levels do come up. Shouldn’t this have all been done before the game could be played? Why have a game when levels aren’t ready to be played?

While I am periodically stumped on a level for repeated attempts, the ability to change regions is a good way to avoid frustration. My companion often assists on particularly annoying ones. When we go back and forth, I notice two different play styles almost always clears the board. Boo tends to choose pieces across from each other with greater distances. I tend to choose pieces based on layers and edges. I am wishing the mansion story let us be more creative. Maybe after we find our parents we can decorate our own areas.

To slow to come with new levels but I love the game. I am sick of playing what little levels that you let us play. And not getting items that we are to get. I spend money on this game and I am about done. I have done this for years. And you are not progressing and I spend money and don’t ever get items
Fun but Frustrating

I am seriously addicted to this game. It's fun, challenging yet frustrating. The only thing I don't like is that the game doesn't give you many options to get diamonds. Other than that it's an entertaining game.

I agree w the senior citizen re: cost of playing the game. U say u can play for free w/o purchases. This is true, however, very frustrating. I did so for many months. Got nowhere. It would be nice if the cost was less. $4.99 for 40 items that are gone within 30 min is too expensive. However the game is fun.

Mahjong Journey
by Come on in ... on 2017/10/13 05:39
Hello, I have been playing this particular game for the last four years...I always recognize the old gentleman and the little girl.

Ugh....
Mahjong journey

Would love to NOT have to delete this app but will have to do that if all it does os take up space.
Need to Know
by random player 22 on 2019/08/07 21:44
This truly is one of my favorite games.
Practically requires purchases
by Mirillie on 2018/09/09 12:09
This is a fun game IF you make in app purchases.
