Description
The app for those who are serious about learning and practicing sight reading! This app is designed to mimic the look and style of real sheet music. This is important when you transition between this app and your music as it will be a natural transition. Another important feature of this app is to read from left to right while having multiple notes on the staff at the same time as it would be with real music. This app does that in the most efficient way possible for the limited screen. Features - Simple interface that will allow you to naturally transition from app to sheet music - Very customizable practice options - Progressive lessons for treble, bass and the grand staff - Real piano sounds - Optional visual aids with hints when you are stuck and note values on the keys Don't use flashcards to learn to read music when you can learn it the right way. There are many features planned. Please contact us with any feedback you may have.
Thank you

This is not a complex app, but I’ve paid for ones that aren’t as good. I’m an adult and have the discipline to practice without it necessarily being “fun”. I wanted something to only focus on note recognition and this delivered hands down.
Great app
by Redhead2058 on 2019/11/11 20:49
I wanted something to train on note reading and this app has fit the bill. I like the number of options you have to set up the practice. Thanks!
Simple and effective

I really enjoy the fact that the app has support for my digital piano.
Love it

Won’t connect to my midi keyboard
by moonlight cobra on 2019/10/26 05:37
This app won’t connect to my midi keyboard. Great concept though. Are you still updating it?
Simply amazing🎼
by QueeniePam7690 on 2019/10/21 10:49
More than I hoped for............outstanding. I am glad that I found it.
Excellent
by Ordthebassman on 2019/10/15 10:39
Use it for both my 8 year old granddaughter who plays violin, piano, & guitar as well as myself. It’s fun, very practical, and teaches in a easy to understand, friendly, way! We both love it!
Requires landscape mode? Or am I missing something?
by finnz0 on 2019/10/14 21:53
I love the functionality of this app but I can’t manage it one handed because it locks to landscape mode. That means I can’t practice my noter while waiting for coffee, walking in woods, etc. without making a big two handed production of it.
Almost too good to be true
by supercreeper3k on 2019/10/11 03:03
For what it teaches you, it would cost money. But it doesn’t, and that’s amazing that someone out of the goodness of their heart decided to make this free. It really helps me learn and identify the notes.
Perfect
by NoLifeKingRL on 2019/10/10 21:05
Amazing this is a free app. Thank you for this.
There’s a first time for everything!!
by marycruzz on 2019/10/07 22:41
I love this app. I love how easy it is to jump in as an absolute novice, I love how the routine of playing 200 notes per day has allowed me to learn to read music slowly but surely, and I love that I get to teach myself something brand new and fun at this point in my life. 1000% recommend.
Awesome! One suggestion....
by fortissississimo on 2019/09/30 19:49
This is an incredible app. It has helped much, and I hope that it will much more! My one suggestion would be that it should include a microphone option so that you could use your keyboard/piano to produce the note. It is slightly annoying when my big thumbs hit the wrong key on my iPad without meaning to lol. But other than that, this is an amazing app with lots of potential! Please do yourself a favor and download!
The Most Amazing App!!!
by VNlovesthisApp on 2019/09/27 13:28
Thank you with all my heart. This app is helping so much in improving my sight reading. I am grateful to your generosity in taking the time to develop this app and in offering it to the world for free. You have truly made an incredibly useful contribution to the world! May your own life be filled with beautiful music!
Nice and Simple
by altaiojok on 2019/09/25 01:37
This is a great app for learning how to read music and translating that into making your fingers actually press the right keys. The built-in keyboard is nice, but to really get value, I HIGHLY recommend using a real MIDI keyboard. I was going through the app with the built-in keyboard and thought I was doing real well, but it’s a whole different level with a real MIDI keyboard, I ended up just starting over from the beginning and it’s way more beneficial. (Note, there is a small bug where the keys remain red/green after pressing them when using a MIDI keyboard, but it really didn’t impact the experience. Just a small cosmetic thing to fix.)
Best sight reading app
by cteller on 2019/08/26 21:55
This is the app I was hoping to find. Works with my MIDI keyboard and displays notes “continuously”, not one at a time like other apps I tried. I’ve only used the app for 5 minutes but it appears to have all the settings I’d expect, like changing keys, in a nice, easy-to-use UI. It’s free with no ads, but I would pay money for this one. Bravo!
So great
by TiminWA on 2019/07/23 14:12
The developer says he does this in his spare time for fun, but he has created an app so powerful and well thought out for working on note recognition, don't know where to start on what a fabulous tool this is!
The best
by cc8772850 on 2019/07/22 12:56
I almost never write reviews but I felt compelled to do one for this app. I recently decided to learn piano playing but could not read sheet music. I know nothing about music theory. This app has been great at teaching me to instantly recognize notes. The progression of the lessons is well thought out. I use it all the time. The MIDI interface works great too. I have just started using it on my digital piano as a first step to begin sight reading And no annoying ads or in-app purchases. Thank you Ryan
Awesome easy app!

free and very simple to use. it is perfect for beginners.
Great for people who just need a little help!
by Winewacko on 2019/07/05 03:54
I’m re-learning how to read music and this app is a great little push! Super easy to use and I love how you can edit the range, clef, and difficulty (sharps and flats)! It’s a good app for refreshing music reading abilities
Need more keyboard controller support...usb for iPad...
by Way jazz on 2019/06/27 18:43
I like this app. It’s is easy to use with a nice interface. However it becomes cumbersome just using the little on-screen keyboard -which of course is nothing like a real piano or even electric keyboard- ideally having a physical Bluetooth piano (or do they mean QWERTY keyboard?) controller would be best but most people don’t have one lying around because....$ Otherwise I think it pretty great; I am showing my daughter how to play piano (note reading ...) and this app is a nice companion to her learning the notes on a real piano; while out sitting on the couch or out traveling... Thank you - Peace!

Loads of ad free sight reading practice. Choose either staff or both, adjust preferred note range and go..
This is amazing!!!
by Lurkling on 2019/06/06 11:09
Thank u so much for creating this, and for sharing with the rest of us. It is helping me SO MUCH! I’m an adult going back and learning piano. I learned treble clef as a kid and this is helping refresh that info, and bass clef is a foreign entity so the drills are just priceless. It’s the kind of app where i would absolutely pay for upgrades just to support the valuable work that’s already been done, since it has helped me so much. And is wonderfully straightforward and simple to use and the UI doesn’t get in the way :) :) :) Love it love it! And good work!!
Pretty Much Perfect
by noblesuntzu on 2019/06/01 17:26
Very useful for learning and honing your sight reading skills. Only complaints is that you cannot set a goal for notes completed per day and the current notes completed counter is slightly inaccurate.
Wonderful App for music!
by DPinSD on 2019/05/31 01:34
I have had music lessons and majored in Music Theory in college. This app is absolutely a personal favorite as it assists me to keep my reading of music notes sharp. The final score is nice and let’s me know how well and how accurate my music note reading is. Very happy with this. It’s a great pass time for me.
Excellent App to learn Sight Reading
by giantsfan23 on 2019/05/18 03:41
This app helped me as a beginner at sight reading and by practicing everday, I’m now able to recognize the notes and piano keys at the same time. Excellent app!
New to Piano
by CDicus on 2019/05/06 00:18
Started using several other methods to help memorize the notes on the Clefs. When I started this app I immediately started getting better. From September to December I went from just reading the standard notes in the Treble Clef at 3 seconds, 80% Accuracy to reading all the notes from 3 ledger lines below the bass Clef to 3 above the Treble Clef at 1.5 sec, and 98% Accuracy. In January I turned on the sharps & Flats, and slowed to 2.3 sec at 95% Accuracy. I’m now back to 1.5 sec and 99% Accuracy! And I started music class in March and can readily start reading and playing songs. It’s great!
Highly Recommended
by BeanPot702 on 2019/05/01 00:37
This is one of those elusive apps that actually does what it is supposed to, with no ads! I like that I can practice from anywhere, while setting my own daily goals and session parameters. I've only been using this app for a few days and have seen noticeable improvement in my note recognition. Seriously, thanks for creating this.
Most useful sight reading app
by abritabroad2 on 2019/04/28 03:38
I have played stringed instrumentals all my life and this is a most useful tool for keeping my bass clef reading up to snuff have not found the alto clef here yet that would be nice, viola wise!

by Ken woolovermyeyes on 2019/04/11 15:54
I would like to reiterate what the previous writers are saying. If you could upgrade the lessons to include how to better understand key signatures . Not very clear you show the sharps ad flats but if you would only put the key itself next to the staff and write what notes are sharp or flat in each key.
this app seems great

Note and key memorization
by Iluvbluesky on 2019/02/26 22:38
Thank you for this “memory” game. It is helping me associate the notes with the keys, and I am reading and playing better. I made some flash cards of notes and their names and places on the staff, but I love using this app when I am not at home. I will be buying the pro version.
Turned me into a pro
by Simplygreatnesss! on 2019/02/26 22:30
Before this app I was TERRIBLE at sight reading. It was mostly my own fault because I dreaded doing it. But using this app for just a few minutes everyday has drastically increased my sight reading skills. When I started it took me about 3 minutes to get through 50 notes. Now I can blaze through in 35-45 seconds. Only improvement I could see is adding a chord training portion as well!
Perfect

Great app! But one suggestion.
by Pointer outer of mistakes on 2019/02/12 19:49
Overall this has helped me and is continuing to help me get my sight reading up to par. But I would suggest adding a scroll bar to practice mode. As I accidentally press the wrong note when attempting to scroll the the correct one.
Can confuse learners
by Jsbach707 on 2019/02/09 20:30
Educational point of view- doesn’t make sense that a high and low G, for example, respond to the same key on the little keyboard. Learning to play THE correct key on the piano is important so this app will confuse them more. Real pianos are not just one octave like this app.
Great way to learn to sight read music.

I Highly Recommend This App
by WBS100 on 2019/01/15 01:33
Fantastic program for learning to read music. I use it on a regular basis. It can be adjusted for your skill level at the time and then grows with your new learned abilities. I recommend it for beginners and for those who just want to sharpen their music reading skills and speed.
You too can learn to play!
by YGlen on 2019/01/11 14:57
Between this incredible app, the book ‘Play Piano in a Flash’ by Scott Fisher, and his two Favorite Piano Fake Books, I have gone from a complete musical novice unable to read music or play any instruments to being able to confidently play some of my favorite tunes on the piano within a year, practicing less than 15 minutes a day.

by aadler13 on 2018/12/13 05:16
It’s a simple app that addresses all I need. The lessons seem pretty well thought out but I get the most value from the random stream of notes in the practice section. The Bluetooth midi support was a really nice touch.

It’s great, it helps a lot.
Use this for all my students but one minor issue needs addressed though.
by دفين الطالب on 2018/11/27 17:50
This is a great app for learning how to read notes on the piano , but when you begin the bass clef lessons is start you out below the staff verses from the middle C position going down to F which I think should be the first notes in the bass clef beginner should learn . If this app could later include a feature where you could choose your starting notes teachers can set up for students in advanced options that would be better for lesson 1 beginning in bass clef versus E below staff. I still recommend to all my beginning students and their parents to help with learning notes on the score
Incredible tool for learning and practice

I wanted to like this app. It was very close to exactly what I was looking for; it was great out and about with the phone, but the Midi connectivity wasn’t working at all with my keyboard. I contacted the developer, whose response was something to the effect of “that’s funny, it should work.” The very next update fixed it... So I get what I wanted! I do like this app! And the developer is clearly responsive. Thanks!
Best Sight Reading Practice App on the Appstore
by Glhehdhiwnehjdhdbjd on 2018/10/23 12:03
Haven’t yet wanted a feature this app doesn’t have, and the constant development ensures user feedback is taken into consideration. It walks you through lessons, or you can simply approach a randomly generated practice session, in any key signature you want. There’s a ton of customization available. There’s no reason to not give it a try if you’re on the market for a sight reading app
Nice Job.
by Hollywood1806 on 2018/10/22 15:27
I have only been using this app for a few days now and already find myself feeling relaxed and comfortable while learning to read Go back and redo the lessons as much as you want at your own pace. Practice, practice, practice is key here. Before you know it you’ll start to feel at ease while it all starts to sink in. Take no shortcuts and steady on. John
Perfect!!!
by ZenGuira on 2018/10/20 00:54
Perfect for practicing and memorizing notation. Exactly what I’ve been looking for. You can plug into a midi keyboard and and practice away on a real keyboard. Set the range, clef, rhythm, and whether or not you see accidentals to help you learn in stages you can set for yourself. Tells you how fast you’re going so you can gauge your progress. Great, simple app. Just perfect!

This app allows you to practice and take lessons via the device (e.g. iPad) app keyboard as well as with an electronic keyboard using MIDI. I’m finally making real progress with sight reading for piano. I would gladly pay for this app, but Mr Newsome very generously provides it at no cost! Wonderful!

Best! Transition to real sheet music reading quickly!
by Jenzeni on 2018/09/07 17:46
I started with flash cards, but that quickly became impractical when I actually practiced on the piano, because the notes on the sheet became like flash card notes... Idk how to describe, but I will just say that flash cards only get you so much practice. Flashcards are great for memorizing notes, but terrible for actually applying the memorization onto a sheet music. With this app, it was like having real practice at reading a real sheet of music in front of me, and thus quickly making the transition when I sit in front of a piano and looking at the paper A WHOLE LOT smoother and easier. Another thing that I like was having the option to practice on this app with all the key signatures, as well as sharps and flats. Many sheet music are not going to always be in C major, or have no flats/sharps... So being able to practice other key signatures made me feel extremely comfortable when I hold a sheet music with, say, C# major or Cb major. In fact, whenever I go from one piece to another, where both are played in very different key signatures, I take this app out to play 1-3 rounds of 100 notes in the specified key signatures - and that absolutely makes the transition seamless. I'm not a beginner; I've played piano for years by ear, but has recently finally decided to hunker down and actually study how to read sheet music fluently. Thus far, I've downloaded and used about 10-20 free sight reading apps, and this one has been the most helpful in terms of transitioning to realistic fluid sight-reading actual sheet music, that is not a paid app. I will also say, I haven't used any paid apps either, but from what I've previewed, even the paid ones are not very fluid or easy to transition in applying practice.

This is the most amazingly useful application for developing a firm association of a piano keyboard and sheet music. Letters are initially employed within the lessons for the piano keys and sheet music while green or red key illuminations denote accuracy. Audio may be completely muted from the application’s simple options me menu. I utilize this silent feature for study everywhere.

My daughter has recently taken up the piano and she has a natural gift and ear for music. She needed an aid to move from understanding the notes as Do, Re, Mi..... to now C, D, E etc. I started using this app and was surprised at how fast I, a person with no musical background, could pick up this skill as well. Bravo to the developers.
Fantastic

Great app to practice sight reading. The only thing I didn’t like is moving the keyboard back and forth on my iPhone, but it’s likely not like that on the iPad.
Great. Only 1 Thing to Change
by Orangesock82 on 2018/07/07 15:49
This is a great music app to help me learn the different piano notes. The only thing I wish was changed was the grand staff note range in practice mode. It only shows the treble clef. Because of this, when you practice, there are some bass clef notes that you don’t want to have to learn how to play. I hope they will fix this problem. (:
Highly Useful and Effective
by Bobzt on 2018/07/05 19:11
I have been using this App over the last few months to improve my sight reading. Without any other instruction, I would say the App has improved my ability to read sheet music by 300%. And that’s without being annoying in any way. I will definitely be sending this guy a donation. Bobzt Engineer
Perfect for Beginners
by MelK23 on 2018/07/04 18:39
I rarely write reviews but I absolutely love this app. It's helped me learn better and faster than other apps/resources I've tried in the past. I have the basics down and I'm ready to move to the next step of my piano playing experience. A must-try for beginners.
Just Shy of Perfect
by RykApril87 on 2018/06/29 03:30
The only downside is the range. While it would be a pain to scroll back and forth between octaves, it would be nice to have the option. Much of the time, I find myself “cheating” (accidentally) by gauging the distance of the lowest and highest notes from their respective “borders” created by the limited range. Aside from that, I love the app. It has definitely improved my reading ability significantly. Believe it or not, I’ve seen improvement in just the last two weeks. It feels like a game, so it’s easy to go 30m-1h without even realizing it. Very pleased!
Super cool app

Just got back in piano and this helps to refresh my skills back up
Thank you for educational app.
by FPPMEDIA on 2018/01/18 03:02
This app and the ease of use has introduced a whole new world to me. I never thought I would understand how to play a piano.. My life has been filled with homelessness and bad fortune, so I learned a long time ago that music had a medicinal effect on me.. A personal escape of sorts... I always wanted to understand how to make beautiful sounds with a piano, but I don’t learn so well.. This app made it easy for me to understand the keyboard layout and knowing what each note is from each key.. It seems like this app will help me learn how to write songs and that will make life so happy for me. I’m not trying to be sad here.. I just wanted to explain how much this app can help someone like me. I can’t afford the full version but this version, I appreciate none the less. “Music may have to save the world someday”.
Absolutely Stunning
by Churple on 2018/03/26 01:16
I rarely write reviews, but this app is so beyond amazing I’ll try my best to share my thoughts. First of all, everything is absolutely FREE, NO premium that you have to buy to basically unlock everything, I feel the developers of this app were truly trying to help instead of take all of your money. Secondly, I’ve had this app for one day and I’ve already learned more than I did searching for weeks for a good app that’s free. I’ve started to be able to play simple songs on my keyboard, like Jingle Bells, completely looking at the sheet music. I almost gave up on trying to learn how to read sheet music, but this has given me a great start. Sorry for bad grammar.
Made it a habit
by Xmjh on 2018/06/12 19:38
This may be too much information, but we all do it: use our phones while sitting on the toilet. I made a rule for myself: I need to sightread one session of notes every time I do a longer session on the pot. Results? Slowly but surely I am getting better, and the improvement is inevitable! Feature requests: (1) I’d love to be able to chart my progress over time. (2) Metronome; I think this assists the brain with staying engaged rather than mind-wandering while reading notes. (3) Option to mark misread notes as wrong, while still allowing the user to still proceed, as would be the case with a real piano. Thanks for a super cool app!
Lobe this app!
by Syrusm on 2018/05/27 09:36
This app is very simple and to the point. I’ve been playing an instrument for a year but could not read notes. I spent two weeks on this app and have been able to get my average down to under a second per note. The lessons are pretty good but i love the practice with the custom range of notes. To get my number below a second, i started having learn to play a note based on how many spaces away from the last note i played as opposed to thinking about each and every note independently in my head. I have gotten down to 0.50 per note in some runs and looking forward to increasing my consistency.
It’s great!
Good for the money, some drawbacks
by Ichitootah on 2017/12/05 03:13
Probably the best and most fully featured free note reading app I could find after doing a reasonable amount of research. Two clefs, any key, random notes and other options. The major drawback is the note wrapping on to a single octave input. For instance, you'll play middle c and the c an octave above it on the same note. Past the basic recognition of the note name, this is pretty bad practice because it's quite unlike reading real music, where the spatial interval distance between notes is extremely important. That said, it is free, well made and can teach you the basics, like flash cards. Another note app I use, piano notes fun, has the user select a range of notes slightly over an octave that is displayed as-is for practice-- no doubling or tripling on the octaves. While that approach is limited in other ways, the more I used Music Note the more I was disturbed by the false motion created by wrapping every c,d,e etc, regardless of octave, on to the same note.
Best app to learn sight reading
by Curtchu on 2017/03/09 21:04
The app presents musical pieces with the option for treble, bass or grand staff allowing users to have real practice experience. Additionally, the app allows for a lot of customization to match your skill level (e.g. Showing the notes, different range of notes). Lastly, the app even allows for full keyboard or just one octave, which provides a lot of flexibility. Only thing I wish was this app had an online version that uses the keyboard as the piano keys, since the phone screen provides only a limited amount of space.
Love this! here’s a request though
by The Bible.org on 2018/03/21 20:50
I am learning harp, the OTHER grand staff instrument! Although I took piano for a while, decades ago as a child, now associating the note on the staff with the key on the keyboard is not my goal. Could you add an option that only names the note, not on a keyboard? It would make my study more directly applicable. But I love many things about your app: the setup of the staves and the way the notes are displayed in context, as well as the user choices for range of notes being learned so as not to become overwhelmed. Very well thought through! Thanks
Great refresher for former pianist
by Abinator261 on 2018/03/21 06:00
This app is tops! The update is great—so many more ways to practice and challenge myself. I’m using this app to get back into playing the piano after years of not playing. I found sight reading to be the most challenging part of starting piano again. This app noticeably improved my sight reading abilities within a week, and I’m excited to continue to improve with the new updates!
Good but could have improvements
by TheAppleMonster on 2016/08/25 05:11
This app times you when you select the keys corresponding to the notes appearing. The one problem I have with this app however is, due to the limited space on the phone, they only have so many keys appearing. If a note for a high C appears, you may have the press a key for a low C as this is the only C appearing. This can be confusing of playing an actual piano. Although harder to press smaller keys on the phone, if there's an option to allow a fuller or shifting keyboard, this would be a very good app.
Great basic learning
by Fmcastro on 2017/05/11 00:22
It's really helping me. Would love to see a few improvements like: - Midi connection so one could learn on a real electric piano with a Midi output - Please don't use the sound if you disable sounds in the settings menu. The way it is it is impossible to listen to music while using the app - the lessons mode could have an offset to delay hints a little more. After just a few times training the hosts are shown too soon at the beginning.

This is one of those elusive apps that actually does what it is supposed to, with no ads! I like that I can practice from anywhere, while setting my own daily goals and session parameters. I've only been using this app for a few days and have seen noticeable improvement in my note recognition. Seriously, thanks for creating this.
Wow.
by oatmeal_mac on 2018/10/25 23:13
I wanted to like this app. Thanks!
Bravo!
Perfect!!!
by ZenGuira on 2018/10/20 00:54
Perfect for practicing and memorizing notation.
Simple, Clean, & Works

Love this app for sight reading practice. Would love to see some additional features. Specifically - hide note letters always to prevent me from using them as a crutch. I never want to see more letters :). Also as others mentioned, add some public domain songs as material to practice. Thank you for taking the time to make this app :)
Very helpful
by Ken woolovermyeyes on 2019/04/11 15:54
I would like to reiterate what the previous writers are saying. If you could upgrade the lessons to include how to better understand key signatures . Not very clear you show the sharps ad flats but if you would only put the key itself next to the staff and write what notes are sharp or flat in each key.
Great app with MIDI support!
by John_Chris on 2018/05/17 16:30
The app is great! Thoughtfully designed and right on target to improve sight reading. Downloaded a bunch other apps and this one is among the few I keep. Very impressed to notice there are no ads! Tested the MIDI keyboard feature with my Casio PX-160, BEST EXPERIENCE EVER! Totally blown away, absolutely fantastic! I recommend this app to everyone who like to practice sight reading!

Note and key memorization
by Iluvbluesky on 2019/02/26 22:38
Thank you for this “memory” game. It is helping me associate the notes with the keys, and I am reading and playing better. I made some flash cards of notes and their names and places on the staff, but I love using this app when I am not at home. I will be buying the pro version.
Cool app
by arbiscuit on 2018/06/20 11:55
Always wanted to play piano. This app definitely helps with reading music. Only other thing I’d like to see is lesson and practice names that show which notes are included in the lesson without having to start the lesson or practice. The 1, 2, 3... mean I have to open each on to see what it covers.
Love this!!!

Best app to learn to read sheet music

Great, But Piano Needs More Octaves
by Stumbleupon user on 2017/05/17 19:16
This is a great app! My only complaint is that I wish there were at least 2 octaves of keys. As someone who plays piano (not super well but plays nevertheless), it's confusing to see a C followed by a high A but have to play the A below the C. If this could be changed, this would absolutely be my favorite sight reading app!
Fabulous!
by Port348 on 2016/11/24 23:03
What a great app! After 30 years away from the piano, this is really helping me renew my familiarity with reading music again. Thanks so much for doing this. I hope you'll continue to make it better and better, but it's pretty great right now.
Perfect app

This app allows you to practice and take lessons via the device (e.g. iPad) app keyboard as well as with an electronic keyboard using MIDI. Great program!
by Yoji57 on 2018/03/15 17:33

It really helps
by Gibi2xb on 2016/10/09 20:57
Even though it could use a bit more work on the visual, overall it works for what is intended. Memorizing the notes is easy after practice. This is a good first step to learning to read music.
Pretty Much Perfect
by noblesuntzu on 2019/06/01 17:26
Very useful for learning and honing your sight reading skills. Only complaints is that you cannot set a goal for notes completed per day and the current notes completed counter is slightly inaccurate.

I never write reviews but this app is great
by aadler13 on 2018/12/13 05:16
It’s a simple app that addresses all I need. The lessons seem pretty well thought out but I get the most value from the random stream of notes in the practice section. The Bluetooth midi support was a really nice touch.

The best

I almost never write reviews but I felt compelled to do one for this app. I recently decided to learn piano playing but could not read sheet music. I know nothing about music theory. This app has been great at teaching me to instantly recognize notes. The progression of the lessons is well thought out. I use it all the time. The MIDI interface works great too. I have just started using it on my digital piano as a first step to begin sight reading And no annoying ads or in-app purchases. Thank you Ryan

It’s great!

This is one of those elusive apps that actually does what it is supposed to, with no ads! I like that I can practice from anywhere, while setting my own daily goals and session parameters. I've only been using this app for a few days and have seen noticeable improvement in my note recognition. Seriously, thanks for creating this.

Only improvement I could see is adding a chord training portion as well!

by Pointer outer of mistakes on 2019/02/12 19:49
Overall this has helped me and is continuing to help me get my sight reading up to par.

Nice Job.

John

by ZenGuira on 2018/10/20 00:54
Perfect for practicing and memorizing notation.

It’s great!
Use this for all my students but one minor issue needs addressed though.

Love this! here’s a request though
by The Bible.org on 2018/03/21 20:50
I am learning harp, the OTHER grand staff instrument! Thanks

Thanks!
Bravo!
Perfect!!!
by ZenGuira on 2018/10/20 00:54
Perfect for practicing and memorizing notation.
Simple, Clean, & Works
by NotMyRealNameOfCourse on 2017/02/01 05:35
Love this app for sight reading practice.
New tricks!
by GT edits on 2018/07/14 05:49
My daughter has recently taken up the piano and she has a natural gift and ear for music. She needed an aid to move from understanding the notes as Do, Re, Mi..... to now C, D, E etc. I started using this app and was surprised at how fast I, a person with no musical background, could pick up this skill as well. Bravo to the developers.
The Most Amazing App!!!

Thank you with all my heart. This app is helping so much in improving my sight reading. I am grateful to your generosity in taking the time to develop this app and in offering it to the world for free. You have truly made an incredibly useful contribution to the world! May your own life be filled with beautiful music!
Love this!!!
by Emmarules411 on 2018/08/06 01:30
I’ve had this app for about a week now and have been practicing daily with it. This app helped me to make a habit of sight reading and definitely helped me improve. Within the first week I’ve already read the notes faster and more fluently. This app is perfect! Thank you!!!!!!
Perfect
by slowstudentak on 2017/11/05 20:21
This is exactly what I need at this point in my learning. It has speeded up my learning a lot. It gives me exactly what I needed. Without it I would have had a long and painful learning curve. I would have paid ten dollars for this, maybe even more. It is simply perfect.
Best app to learn to read sheet music
by Ribbles23 on 2017/02/13 00:39
I was able to successfully teach myself to read sheet music using only this app. I thought i could never learn, but now i fly through this game, and can read sheet music fast too. No suggestions for improvement - it is awesome.
Perfect app
by DrMomH on 2016/10/18 04:41
I am an adult student learning piano and just wasn't getting my notes. This app is perfect. Simple yet instructive. It starts out showing you the notes the gradually takes the hints away. Perfect! I tried Piano Notes as well and I like this one better. Thanks!
Excellent Sight Reading Training App
by Johna42 on 2018/09/29 18:18
This app allows you to practice and take lessons via the device (e.g. iPad) app keyboard as well as with an electronic keyboard using MIDI. I’m finally making real progress with sight reading for piano. I would gladly pay for this app, but Mr Newsome very generously provides it at no cost! Wonderful!

Excellent beginners introduction into reading music. There are no ads. The app uses several different ways to help you memorize and learn notes and how to read music. You don’t have to be in a hurry and it’s very easy and straightforward understand.
Great program!
by Yoji57 on 2018/03/15 17:33
What makes this program outstanding is that It presents both staff’s at the same time, which is helpful if you’re a student of piano. It has definitely helped me, and I recommend it to everyone.
It really helps
by Gibi2xb on 2016/10/09 20:57
Even though it could use a bit more work on the visual, overall it works for what is intended. Memorizing the notes is easy after practice. This is a good first step to learning to read music.
Pretty Much Perfect
by noblesuntzu on 2019/06/01 17:26
Very useful for learning and honing your sight reading skills. Only complaints is that you cannot set a goal for notes completed per day and the current notes completed counter is slightly inaccurate.
Learned in a week!
by Wowohwow343434 on 2019/02/16 04:38
Thanks to this app I was able to teach myself how to read music successfully! Next step is learning pace and measures...would be a cool feature. Overall, love this app would highly recommend!!!!
I never write reviews but this app is great
by aadler13 on 2018/12/13 05:16
It’s a simple app that addresses all I need. The lessons seem pretty well thought out but I get the most value from the random stream of notes in the practice section. The Bluetooth midi support was a really nice touch.
