The second time I’ve had to write about this program, I can’t resist praising it. They are so ON with the legendary Korg sounds, super awesome layout and superb functionality, I just hope they stay right where they are with the design concept. Please continue to moving forward, the future of music production is here, now and has never been better! Can’t wait to see what they’ll do next! July 21, 2019: Still totally in love with Korg Gadget 2 progression. Thee most beautiful music app on iOS ever. Every time I get a new gadget it surprises me! The sounds in these modules are so inspiring. I need one more drum module that I can directly sample into with filters and such. Not that I don’t love the Recife and LONDON already! Audio recording needs only a few more editing functions, should be on the way I hope. 👍🏽 I’m so blown away by the design of the modules that I just had to say something about it one more time. The attention to detail are so accurately nice. For example, the shine of the piano’s ebony lacquer luster is awesome. Some modules even have finger printers on them entailing their use. The graphic artist here are awesome. Now I realize all of this would be irrelevant if the app didn’t sound great, but it does! So the graphics makes it just that more of a plus. You guys are fantastic!
Disappointed
by Iighffr on 2020/02/17 21:26
The lack of autosave and all the lost tracks that I forgot to save makes me regret every recommendation and penny spent no matter how good or bad the quality of the software is.
Will NOT work with Beatmaker 3
by wayniacc on 2020/02/15 07:28
LOVE THIS.. but With beatmaker 3 and attempting to pair them, both apps repeatedly crash or have no audio transmitted., i go back and forth from app to app anticipating either will freeze and crash. Ive got everything on the proper channels but.. no dice.
Pretty great for iPad
by ricky_louse on 2020/02/13 21:55
If it could load AU fx plugins or if it had much more control over the provided plugins I’d give it a perfect score.
No Zurich or Rosario on iPhone 11 Pro?

Gadget Price Skyrocket
by AuronBrash on 2020/01/25 13:48
Literally one day after purchasing the app almost all the premium gadget prices surged by almost 50%. Way too expensive now, wasted my initial investment and not going to bother with the app and company.
Great, but...
by Vibeulator on 2020/01/23 20:05
Arrangement editing needs to be improved. Because it doesn’t allow for cut or move (only copy), rearranging ordering from measure to measure are incredibly frustrating. It would also be nice if there was a way to “shift” order so that what’s in measure 1 “wraps around” to measure 4 (shift left) or vice-versa.
Just buy it
by Sowlinx on 2020/01/22 20:52
This app has literally changed my life and is my favorite tool for composing. It's fantastic as it is, although I would like a crossfade option for recorded tracks to remove the "pop" sound. Also I would like to import midi to an open project.
Great app, issues with connecting midi
by Patrickdodaro on 2020/01/21 01:00
Love the app but I purchased the nanokey studio as a companion and come to find out after iOS 13 came out the nanokey goes not connect. These are both Korg products and after doing research I have found out this issue has been going on for over 5 months. Korg pleaaaassseeee address this, the nanokey is essential to using this app for a lot of artists
Needs some basic functions added
by Archemi on 2020/01/21 00:39
Cool app and fun to use, but it could really benefit from the following: 1) Allowing a playback cursor. It’s really annoying that when you’re trying to hear just a few bars of a gadget in relation to the whole scene that you have to play the scene from the beginning. You can move the start/end cursors at the top, but those only apply to the gadget you’ve opened, meaning it will play just the selected bars of the gadget while the rest of the scene plays in entirety. As far as I can tell there’s no option otherwise. This is critical if you’re trying to layer gadgets and work out harmonies. 2) Please allow a traditional DAW timeline view where the gadgets are horizontal and stacked! Having the option to view this way would greatly open up the possibilities of using this as a go-to DAW. I get that it wasn’t designed that way with the individual edit options for each scene, but I think it would help workflow for more linear minded people like myself. 3) Please move the ‘Velocity’ banner to a different place instead of at the bottom of the piano roll. I constantly hit it by accident when trying to edit the roll, and it opens up that huge window you have to swipe out of.
At this point...

I go back and forth with this app for a variety of reasons. Definitely a love hate relationship. I think the bottom line is that music creation on iOS is still young and developing and Korg has been there pretty much from the start... but things are changing fast and there are many new developers on the scene creating some very cool apps. I just need to be more patient and walk away when I get frustrated with the limitations of most iOS music apps. So with that said, this really is an amazing app that can be a lot of fun. It can get a bit expensive and be a $ gouge fest at times, but that’s just korg being korg. I have many korg products that I’ve enjoyed over the years and they all have their limitations... It’s just part of the game... and with software it’s no different I guess... they gotta be done at some point and move on... no matter how loud we scream... I look forward to the future of iOS music software... but in the meantime, I will try to be more patient and enjoy what’s currently on the menu. peace
Great for producing music!
by Reclusorap on 2019/12/23 20:32
I love how works the KORG Gadget 2! It’s easy and intuitive... i would suggest that Korg should create more drum machine modules and more drum libraries.
NO TRACK RENAMING AND SPYING ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?
by dynamiczeal on 2019/12/17 05:02
KORG what’s your problem? In-App analytics against the users knowing of it. Not to mention embezzlement from users: Their Tracks and Presets siphoned ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? Update December 16, 2019: There is still no fix for Track renaming. Also Gadget 2 App introduced its own analytics which bypasses Apple’s built-In iOS analytics (SPYING).
Needs an update.
by Error 3000 on 2019/12/03 07:29
The sound pops and crackles when I set the audio latency to 128 with just one module loaded. This wasn’t the case with Gadget on IOS 12. I’m also on an IPhone XS Max.
Updated after Korg Bluetooth Products Fix
by wareismike on 2019/11/30 19:35
I LOVE Gadget. It's worth every penny for every gadget (but wait for a sale, which they have often). This is an update to reflect that Korg has issued a firmware update to fix their NanoKEY Studio and other Bluetooth devices with iOS 13. I had removed three stars due to this as the integration with their hardware was a key feature that was lost with iOS 13. Thank you for fixing it Korg! Took ya long enough, but I’ll forgive that. Gadget is one of the most impressive apps on iOS. One star off for not allowing audio input from other apps such as AUM and Audiobus. I do not know what on earth Korg is thinking adding an audio Gadget that can only take direct hardware input. But other than that I love Gadget.

Great daw environment. Can’t beat it for the price.... I wish they would of put this type of sequencer environment in the korg kronos.... if you can fix the wave table synth waves don’t show every since I switch to the iPhone 11

Pretty sweet but hate the UI
by Ondrj on 2019/11/22 06:13
And for a DAW, the UI makes or breaks it. The synths sound great, and the quality beats any other on iOS. I’ve bought a few of the addons - likely to buy more. But other than throwing down some simple ideas, I don’t gravitate to this one. It could just be I'm not used to it yet? My suggestion is to wait for a decent sale, then spend the extra on a few of the in-app synths.
Get creative

My top favorite music app has been very user friendly. Don’t be afraid to mess with the sounds and instruments . Once u get use to it it’s super easy to use and navigate with !!
I make music again!
by Nomadxoxo on 2019/11/03 02:14
I’ve had it all. Computer gear and daws, hardware, iOS daws. Gadget is the one for me. What makes this app so special to me is the simple no frills approach. What this this app makes lacks in bells and whistles, it makes up with its wonderful “gadgets”. They’re like synths, but a little more user friendly. Most apps only have two very small screens to navigate through. There are more advanced apps you can get that’ll get you gagitized versions with more advanced controls. The bottom line though, is this app gives you just about every sound you could ever need, the ability to use your own samples, easy sound design, and a SUPER simple, yet deceptively powerful loop based sequencer. I haven’t even begun to even use Gadget to its full abilities but I’m having so much fun making music again! With AUM and Gadget... I could never update my iPad again and make music forever with what I have.

iPadOS issues
by Nana shaman on 2019/09/27 22:39
I love gadget! It’s my favorite go to for ideas and playing around with song structures. I’m having an issue now though. I just update me to a new iPad 11 inch pro and I reinstalled gadget but I can’t get my korg module piano and other instruments back. I hit the buy button but it just closes the app. Any ideas?

Obsessed. My most used music app on iOS!
by Myrkskog on 2019/09/26 05:41
I can’t possibly review every in app purchase I’ve made. I love gadget, but ultimately I wish it had more full daw features. Cubasis and Auria pro are more for that work. This app isn’t really for tracking multiple instruments for more than 16 bars. I hate swapping apps though so I mostly stay in gadget... or don’t use it at all. The base package of sounds allows for loads of stuff to get you started, but you might want to pick some of the extra in app purchases to fill out your palate of styles. I recommend Bilbao, Kamata, and Gladstone to name a few. Everything goes on sale regularly for the summer so hold out money’s tight. The sounds that come out of here are so good your brain will EXPLODE! Now that I’ve lost my mind, I have a few ideas for features like add a lyric gadget that lets you do karaoke style lyrics. Custom Pads with an arp like beatmaker 3 would be nice. Using bm3 as midi into gadget is not great as the timing seems to suffer occasionally. Bm3 allows a for a hardware pad to be bound to the bm3 apps pad (focus actions). Allowing a hardware pad midi note to be bound this way allows for scales to be input easily via another menu, along with an arpeggiator. I bring my iPad everywhere because of this app!!!
Issues
by super sonic 43321 on 2019/09/24 20:29
The midi implementation is very buggy. I simply want to sync the tempo with the app to a Volca sample and it’s not working. Also the help Manuel does not load.
Great app but...
by ryan2012rowdy123 on 2019/09/22 15:20
Sounds are great, everything is great, but no auv3 support, so it’s useless (to me) for Cubasis, bm3 and auria for what I need it to do.
The Super Groove Box

This app made me drop iMpc pro 2
by Antwon la great on 2019/09/19 18:22
After I used the letdown of a app iMpc pro 2 after loving the first version I decided to look for something new. I’m glad I found this because it’s a all in one powerhouse. Luckily I got most of the add on gadgets and module on sale but without the sale it could get a little pricy. If you’re a hip hop producer download the Bilbao gadget for your drums, Vancouver to chop samples, and module to add more sounds to your arsenal.
Love the new updates
by UrbanImages on 2019/09/19 16:03
KORG Gadget continues to develop and deliver a great sounding easy to use music production experience for the iPad and iPhone. We could use some of that DRUM MACHINE from iElectribe Wave in Warszawa in the future!
Amazing app
by Lucidxxrx on 2019/09/16 02:51
Hands down my favorite iOS daw to use, I’ve bought most of the extra gadgets and standalone that run as gadget. I’d like to see some more ifx and some kaoss controls... it’s 10x better on iOS than switch if you’re wondering, touch controls make more sense, things flow. Switch feels odd with a controller, and switch has no extra gadgets or ifx at all. Gadget reminds me a lot of FL studio as far as workspace and flow, very easy to copy patterns, move and edit patterns. The built in gadgets could get you through plenty of songs, but some of the purchase gadgets are well worth it and compliment the available gadgets. I’d highly recommend this, I use it more than Cubasis or GarageBand.
Fun music app
by lmaestro on 2019/09/07 14:50
This is really fun to use one the go as a scratch pad. Can export to Ableton Live project. Note that while all descriptions say it comes with 40 gadgets, it actually comes with 20. You need to purchase the remaining ones.
A beautiful walled garden
by Shabudua on 2019/09/06 02:16
Gadget won’t replace a real desktop DAW, because it doesn’t have “real” audio tracks and the sequencer is relentlessly pattern-based. But as a portable groovebox, Gadget is amazing. It’s fast, easy, and fun to work with. Your results can be easily exported as stems to other software for further development. 9/10 would buy again 👍

Some ideas/concerns for Gadget 2
by SynthJockey748 on 2019/09/03 01:06
Absolutely amazing! The color scheme is great, the instruments are versatile and creative. I love the new beat sequencer and the improvements made to the sound mixer are so good! KORG Gadget 2, though it has so many pros, also has cons: 1.) The name of the song cannot be changed without having to save as! It’s really a bit of a hassle, especially since it takes up storage room duplicating a .gdproj2 file. Next time you slap a number onto the name of the software [in this case it was 2], please don’t take out a useful feature like this. 2.) Stockholm seems to be working better since the last couple of updates [it actually plays on tempo], although the preview interface is still glitchy. The red lines do not separate the slices like they should; rather, they are in all places besides where they should be. 3.) Please fix the file browser!!! It is so hard to browse files with your tiny pop-up menu. I also suggest separating the user projects and demos. 4.) Fix the MIDI. I cannot connect AudioKit SynthOne or any other app to Gadget using your MIDI out device, and Ableton Link is extremely glitchy. 5.) Add new demos! I have only seen one new demo get added in the 2 years I have had this app. 6.) You should support comments on the waveform in the GadgetCloud. This way, comments posted in the GadgetCloud will appear on the waveform in SoundCloud. You should also put a search bar in the GadgetCloud with a set of filters for tracks, profiles, top-charts, and recently added. This will make browsing so much easier. 7.) Last but not in the least bit the least, please add some effects to the mixer. In GarageBand, there is a DJ FX menu with XY pads, stops, starts/restarts, filters, and LFO effects. Installing this will be a big plus to the software. I also suggest that you guys make the iOS app compatible with Dark Mode in the upcoming iPadOS update this fall. Some type of color scheme change from the classic cool colors to warmer colors will look cool.
Waste of money!
by G by T on 2019/09/01 16:30
App is not at all what was described, requires more purchases, does not look like the images shown. Impossible to use, interface is too finite and small to use on a phone. Korg is using their name ID to sell apps that are nothing like the real physical products.
Super dope...exponentially so If you hAve iOS midi controller
by CAPTIVE MUSIC on 2019/08/29 22:00
Only reason for the 4⭐️ and not a 5⭐️ is the lack of support for any outside Plugins be it IAAP or auv3, which is a drag...and it itself isn’t a auv3 unit but it is available to use as Inter-app Audio for tracking into GarageBand or whatever..... also the midi Implementation isnINSANE! Every parameter of every synth(of which there are many) effect and even transport is “tap and turn” midi assignable..... and the project export options are second to few ... all in all, it is most definitely worth the 50% off sale price of $19.99... but I wouldn’t be happy if I had paid The normal 39.99. But every 2-3 months they have a 50% off sale so just wait it out and grab the Electribe wave as well for 19.99 @$40 for those 2 apps is a motha truckin steal!..... I love ya Korg my first piece o gear was a Volca beats and I’ve been hooked ever since
Love the gadgets!
by O-SKI-D on 2019/08/28 19:04
This is my go to app for electronic and ambient music and HipHop, very clean sounds and great sequencer. My only suggestion would be to make it AU compatible.

MAC + IPad version pricing
by lib747 on 2019/08/25 18:53
Gadget is great for quickly developing song ideas, and even writing complete songs, especially, if you later export them to Ableton, and finalize with EQ, compression, etc. The problem I have with Kong and Gadget has to do with pricing, and Korg’s understanding of the customer (I have both the Mac and iPad versions of Gadget, and I also own all the individual Korg instrument plugins on the Mac and IPad). On the Mac, you get all the plugins, and you can use them in any DAW. That is absolutely great - thank you! On the iPad, you don’t get all the plugins, and lots of them are priced as if they’re very special. Korg has a user ID which only knows about my ownership of the Mac version of Gadget, not the individual plugins, and not the iPad versions. The upgrade to Gadget2 on Mac has a special price for me of $100, which gives me nothing new, and I need to spend another $100 on the iPad, to get the plugins that I’m already using on the Mac. Korg can charge whatever they want, but as somebody who likes and owns a lot of Korg products, I find the business and customer side of Korg far behind the technical side. In my opinion, they should know what I own, and make it easy and meaningful for me to upgrade everything, so that I can use any platform, not nickel and dime me in different ways, and ultimately not get another penny from me.
Great mobile app!
by c9ether on 2019/08/22 22:14
You can do almost anything with Gadget 2 especially since they included audio tracks. You can do both audio and midi tracks. The amp sim is not bad at all.I also like that multiple time signatures are supported as well. You can import standard midi files and audio clips. The sounds and effects are great. It would be cool if you could use a midi foot controller for stop/start next/ prev, but they’ll probably figure that out too. Definitely worth 40 bucks.
Two Video game Gadgets??? Why?
by Spacedrum on 2019/08/21 04:49
Gee thank you for not 1... but 2 video games gadgets which brings us to a grand total of 5 video game gadgets... Please just give us a iKaossilator update. You can’t charge 20 bucks for an app and then abandon it... you still have a large community using this app and it’s just not right.

(Update) Grid prompt to report bug...
by Pacal, L on 2019/07/28 05:10
I know I like the app but I cannot reach Korg with my issue: How to successfully import audio into Gladstone and why does the app become muted at times without any of the mute buttons being pressed? Update I was under the impression that Korg would only address my issue if I created an account with them at their website. To be fair, Korg did reach out to me for help. I think my issue is that I’m using an iPad Mini 2. Too frustrated by now to work it out with Korg. What really did it was when I lost a particular file. After opening a different file I decided to reopen said particular file only to find that it was missing. Other files were present, but not this one. This one file was so important to me and it was the only completed song I created on my iPhone SE’s version of Gadget. I’ve invested in this app but I can’t even trust it. At least on my Mini 2 I haven’t lost any data. I will update my hardware in the near future and will give Gadget another shot. For now, the one star remains.
Great

Gidget
by mntcrisis on 2019/07/20 18:15
... was a show in the '60s. Gadget, however, is THE show of the, um, uh, well ... whatever this decade is to be known as. Though the guitar sounds leave much to be desired (I actually prefer the guitar in iKaossilator!), Gadget really is something special. Why there's no playable X-Y pad is beyond me, but Gadget is awfully cool anyway. And although I do wish Korg hadn’t seen fit to take out the ability to rename tracks when they slapped a “2” on it, this tool really does outperform everything else. If only they hadn't forgotten to add in changing keys on the fly ala iKaossilator.
My favorite composition software
by The king of canada on 2019/07/20 01:00
So nice to make music with this software. Look up Norhythmic on SoundCloud if you want to get an idea of what you can do with the software. I made all my recent tracks that way.
Most productive IOS sequencer
by jld on 2019/07/19 19:59
I have a number of IOS sequencers (Modstep, BeatMaker 3, Auria Pro, Medley, Thumb Jam, ...) and overall I find Gadget is my go to app. A big part of this is the behavior of the piano roll which has the best handling of the apps I own. For drum parts the step sequencer in Modstep is better but none of the other apps have the efficient piano roll editor that Gadget has. A drawback is you are limited to Korg gadgets and I imagine for any type of music you will need to purchase some IAP gadgets. For pop/rock/Jazz etc. you really need IAP drums, bass, piano. There are some interface quirks (e.g. to rename a scene you click on time signature in function mode, not intuitive at all) and midi import is a mess, breaking midi sequence into multiple 2 bar scenes. But overall Gadget is a very efficient music app. Sharing between devices works great, but again it’s not intuitive.
Latest update = custom samples gone
by KingDiamond on 2019/07/11 21:29
Just updated to the latest version of gadget and it destroyed all of my custom presets in sample-based gadgets (Vancouver, etc.). Now most of my projects do not load/play correctly. I can find the missing samples in Files but when I tap to load them, nothing happens. Gadget is so frustratingly painful to use with these recent updates. Don’t waste your money like I did. There are plenty of better and less expensive alternatives. To the developer: Yes, I am running the latest version (2.4). Garbage. I’ve deleted the app completely. Too bad I spent soooo much money on this app and it’s IAPs. Save your money everyone! You are better off with GarageBand and AUv3 instruments and effects. It will save you money and provide a heck of a lot more flexibility.
Needs better midi support
by Oioi u on 2019/07/05 16:35
I like that all of the gadgets allow you to select a key and a scale and even offer a way to play chords but this doesn’t work if you’re trying to interface with Korg Gadget with an external midi keyboard. Wish they would fix this and I would use it more often. Most serious musicians to play on the iPad screen. I mean why have midi at all then?

It’s great that the modules can finally be used as AUV3 plugs in other iOS apps, it really opens up the possibilities.......just kidding!😂

Needs to have a classic timeline flow, very powerful otherwise.
by xyz_ on 2019/06/01 16:19
Until the timeline feature gets changed to the industry standard this will continue to confuse the sh*$ out of me every time i use it. In fact, its so confusing i limit my use of korg gadget to being piped to audiobus for playing gadgets as layers in a live performance. Until this glaring problem is fixed (i get it, we know you coded it this way but please just add more source code so we can toggle between a piano roll style tracker or your default,) as this is seriously confusing. I have all the other korg apps, the moog apps, and have tried tens of dozens of other ios synths and composing environments, And if korg gadget is harder to learn and use than SUNVOX, Well... that. . Is all i need to say. However if you dont have two or more decades of music production experience like myself, perhaps this strange layout will be easy for you to learn. But it will then proceed to break your mind when you try to use other software. Korg, please dont try to reinvent the usb port. We just want whats been standard for so very long. Otherwise this app kicks a lot of butt and is very powerful. Albeit, expensive if you buy all the module gadgets as I have. .
Awesome App (on iOS)
by Mmdeveloper on 2019/05/29 14:19
Ok so I have grown to REALLY like this application, it’s no Reason or Cubasis/Cubase, but it has potential. I like where this is going and love the new external synth ability - I just want to know where the 2 synths are that are “COMING SOON” seems like they are coming never. I also thought there would be more synths coming as DLC / PAID DLC... Don’t lose your momentum guys!

When I want to get an idea down or even start a new project I almost always use gadget. The synths sound amazing, pads are lush, drums are solid and sequencing is so easy. Playing the keyboard, even on my iPhone XR, feels good. Love this app!!!!
Greatest Music Production App for iPad

Gadget is on another level!
by Support the bus on 2019/05/11 00:33
I’ve been using Gadget for a long time now. I’ve been making the best music I’ve ever made, it lets me focus more on the music. My biggest gripe at the moment is simply that I can’t get the new gadgets on my phone, ie- the iMS20 Gadget, I have it on my ipad, why can’t I get it on the iPhone? All I mostly make music on, is my phone. It’s the reason I fell in love with Gadget, because I can make music anywhere, but I don’t bring my iPad everywhere, I ALWAYS have my iPhone on me. Other than that, I even love the update, now I can use AU synths in AUM with Gadget controlling it, I love it. Just please don’t ever change the workflow too much, it’s close to perfection the way it is. Great App. Highly recommended.
Auv3 please

4.1 Unstable on iPad Air 2?

First install looked great for literally 3 minutes before an unrecoverable crash...trying a reinstall because relaunch and reboot/relaunch didn’t work. Will update my review if the situation changes. -=-=-=- Reinstall seems to have helped, but there is some small lag. While technically compatible, perhaps not glitch free without the latest/greatest Apple toy. Will get deeper into this and post more updates...

This app is a fun and unique way to make music. The most recent update addressed some concerns I had with the interface color scheme. As a user of Korg Gadget 1 for Mac, I’m very happy to see that project files are compatible with that version again.
Please improve copy/paste tracks between scenes. Please!
by Tmidiman on 2019/04/26 11:59
Importing a midi file into Gadget has become so much better. Because of that I’ll add another star! Thanks to the Gadget team! Another improvement that I love, being able to transpose selected notes in the piano view. This is a big improvement and adds to a great workflow. The next major improvement is the copy/paste of bars. Moving a bar from one scene to another deletes the previous bars in that scene. Gadget needs to be better at nondestructively moving around bars to different scenes. I should be able to either prepare a place to copy the information or Gadget should ask where to place it (what bar and beat) and built out the existing bar as needed. It doesn’t have to be fine tuned. Just let me copy over one or two bars nondestructively to another scene and I’ll be able to edit the rest as needed. Freedom with editing is what takes a DAW from being a toy to being a useful creative tool. Another improvement, please update the manuals. There are features people need to know about that make Korg Gadget 2 one of the best iOS DAWs. Lastly, Gadget is such a great tool. The sounds, flexibility, and features make it the top DAW for feeding your creativity. My only other request for future expansion would be more acoustic drum and bass Gadgets along with another guitar amp modeling Gadget. Add that with IR importing would be even better!
Thank you

Finally a solid multi use iOS DAW 4 the iPhone
by Holla @ Thine Tuna on 2019/04/23 17:53
Maybe I’m biased as I’ve been a Korg guy since the days of the Triton when I was a teen. I’ve been keen to the flexibility of Korg‘s sequencers for a while, so the nature of Gadget 2 makes a lot of sense to me. The keyboard controls for the synth leave much to be desired with the phone as a sole interface in comparison to apps like GarageBand or even beatwave, however the updates to midi in and out have made this so much easier to lock in ideas that I can commit to. Wish there was more flexibility with audio period as doing midi out to another iOS synth, committing audio and flying in doesn’t have the same flexibility of cutting audio as GB or iMPC 2. Currently automation rides are the only work around.

Got developer feedback; Was a 2 now it’s a 1 Star
by Facie Jones on 2019/04/13 22:09
Having written Korg about a plethora of issues with apps and devices on multiple platforms I’ve finally gotten a response (in this case almost a year later)! Sort of a ‘we’re working on it’. This app has so much potential. While the gadgets are limited, they could function so much better either adequate design. While one of my biggest complaints is the ability to control a cc value is unprecise, the remedy of fine control in the flick is possibly more frustrating than trying dial in with the poor (in-app) knob/value control before.. If it doesn’t like your flick it can throw the value wildly in one direction. The lack of control is terribly apparent in sampler devices like the Abu Dhabi or the Bilbao when it would be very nice to tune samples together or seperately and quickly. (Add a shift button on the lower right hand of the screen!). Also if you’re using samples, the file picking can be brutal. Especially if samples are in a folder. You will have to start at the top anytime you’re searching. It will not return you to where you were in your folder. This might sound picky, but these simple workflow killers have made some process take 10x than necessary and totally taken me out of being creative and iced my vibe on many occasions. I wish Korg would have prioritized getting the Gadget 1 right before sticking a big #2 on it. Research Beatmaker 3 or Cubasis. They may not be as ‘grooveboxy’ or all in 1, but they are vastly superior DAWs that seem to take the users time and effort more seriously. Honestly, if Korg was to make the user experience more reliable, fluid and sweeten the other dark neglected corners this would max out at a 4/5. The reduction in review is ultimately because this thing has been out for years and should be getting better. Korg needs to survey the iOS audio landscape and see that smaller devs are releasing interesting, powerful, work-ready apps and in comparison the Gadget is turning into a toy.
What a bummer

I own both for iOS and Mac. Hundreds invested. Upgraded to version 2. iOS Midi sync is crap. Will not restore purchases. Taipei needs an audio monitor. Mac AU plugins in other apps (LIVE) are inefficient causing fans to run with only one instance.

I've been a big fan of Korg since the 80's. This program is great for the traveling musician or the parent that has a very active toddler. Can't go in the studio? Sit on the couch, let them play with his or her toys, while you bust some beats.

Please Update 5 Year Old Manual!
by northerntao on 2019/03/17 01:58
Amazing update. Not only can we use Gadget with the MS-20 and Polysix apps (iPad only, iPhone versions please!) but the MIDI Gadget allows control of pretty much anything with MIDI with the sequencer. But besides the new gadgets and visual adjustments, we could really use a manual update. The in app links just go to the almost 5 year old guides. Please update the documentation - then I’ll give it a full 5 stars

I love this company, their creativity and engineering is top in the EDM industry in my opinion. This app is no exception, I love this program. I own Nanostudio 2, Cubasis, Fruity Loops is still awful for ipad (even after the update) and i constantly find myself coming back to this program to easily lay down my ideas and most of all to enjoy the experience. The quality of the tools and instruments are outstanding. This is the most intuitive program to me, don’t hesitate with this one. Korg, I’d love to see a Kaoss pad feature or addon, thank you.

Amazing music making app, reminiscent of Reason, latest version just crashes after restoring gadgets, the app doesn't work anymore, I think one of the gadgets is having an issue, also support is pretty useless, I had a different issue where my recorded wave files inside Rosario disappeared, I provided description and screenshots and support's answer was basically asking me to describe the problem, again.

The grand Gadget 2 Review
by Ahhz u were on 2019/03/11 02:04
🖖🏻Well done Korg, Gadget 2 is looking up so don’t stop. The initial offering price was a stroke of genius, couldn’t have resisted given this special price. Have owned and still love all the Korg keyboards I played such as the Polysix, DSS-1, Triton and others. The reason 4 stars was offered for this new release instead of 5, was certainly not due to any lack of effort by the Korg programmers (the Korg sonic quality is thankfully still intact), but...If...only Korg could envision the wisdom of reducing the prices of the many other gadgets and instruments that were -not- included with G2, during this same introductory period, with ‘special’ discounts of their own, well then laddies, could you imagine how many of us would immediately attempt to dig as deeply as possible to add not merely one, but -several- of those additional gadgets/instruments sitting there alone in the iOS shoppe? Such a grand, generous gesture by Korg to so many loyal musicians would generate good will, and surely have the competition’s marketing departments hanging their heads shame. A bit of extra income would give Korg more time and incentive to remain hard at work on the next batch of improvements we need! 🎹🎼🎶😎

KorgGadget 2 brings IOS Troubles.
by Whatsjob on 2019/03/07 12:44
Hello I just updated to korg gadget 2 from gadget 1 and I would’ve loved to leave a positive review but your update is causing migraines here’s my frustration with what you guys call a update the midi portion right I use BeatMaker 3 and gadget together or used to because now for whatever reason I’m not sure if this was on purpose or system malfunction but gadget no longer allows me to use it coupled with beat maker 3 with my midi control I wished Korg Gadget would listen to its consumer base about having auv3 abilities but it doesn’t even have iaa abilities anymore this disheartening what ever you guys broke in this version 2 I hope you fix it soon. Signed a unhappy customer.
Korg is great but Dissapointed in update
by Pangoat on 2019/03/03 17:39
Still no audiobus in. Korg is really not part of the rest of the ios music making ecosystem. They refuse to drop this weird cash grab business model and actually make something more useful. Have you seen the developer responses? It's like talking to a chatbot Look I really like aspects of gadget and the new bass Note editor is still a mess. Just get nanostudio 2. Its a thousand times better and I regret spending so much money on something with significantly worse sound quality. Nanostudio 2 is amazing and the UI is 👌
A 5 STAR APP FOR WHAT IT DOES BUT.....

Thanks for giving us the high quality music production workstation that we as mobile musicians have desperately been waiting for!!!! You all are the best. Update....... I bought gadget the first day it came out and with this new gadget 2 update I both love it and hate it.... Don’t get me wrong it’s still a 5 star app for what it does but to be considered the part 2 version is far fetched and more like a marketing scheme. The term DAW should not be applied to this music workstation because that’s what it is a workstation. Great for creation but that’s as far as it goes. Korg’s unwillingness to add AUv3 just for the effects alone make the mixer worthless to me. Zurich is crap as far as for serious vocal recording goes and I do mean serious so these demo guys should hush saying it can be done no it cannot serious audio engineering CAN NOT be done is this app. I create in Gadget then export the stems... Korg add AUv3 support for effects so we can at least complete our mix in here and while your at it make it look like a traditional DAW at least and make it horizontal so it would be easier to sequence our tracks. Your robbing our pockets we’ve paid the same amount or more than those that purchased the desktop version yet they get more options!?!?! AU support???? Gadget originated in iOS but we get no AU support!!!! That’s my rant great workstation but no DAW!!!!

So... this is an amazing daw. However, it could be better. What it does well: excellent sound quality. Signature classic synths, easy to use interface. Lots of options you literally don't need any other daw, has audio input for guitar, vocals, etc... it's a beautiful feature rich daw by a brand that has a legacy that is 2nd to none. Where it needs to improve: while the interface is unique... it is also counter intuitive to all other daws, the scroll down feature instead of left to right does not feel natural. While they try to separate themselves and stand out It's not an improvement and it feels like a struggle to visualize where things go. If this is your first daw it won't matter but when you try one in landscape you will say... " oh wow...this makes more sense." It really disrupts the flow. There is no counter, at least not one I could find that tells me song length, so I have to use a stop watch on my phone to see how long my song is? That seems like a basic feature.
Limitless creative power at your fingertips

KORG Gadget is an incredibly powerful, feature rich, music production & mobile DAW for IOS. It only took me a few sessions until I became familiar with the workflow and interface of Gadget. After which, my tracks really started to really take off. If you own Korg Module, Korg iM1, or ODYSSEi you will have 7 additional instruments in Gadget to choose from. While these additional instruments are a huge plus, they certainly are not a requirement to make brilliant tracks. Recently they have added 3 new instruments comprising; a very realistic sounding acoustic drum module with loads of kits to choose from, An electric and acoustic bass module with a wealth of options and cabinets to choose from, and an 8bit video game music module by Konami. To summarize; Korg Gadget has a very intuitive user interface with dynamic control over every track. Creating high quality music on a mobile DAW has never been this addictive. This is unequivocally by far my favorite Music Production app on iOS period.

Great app. Zero responsiveness from Korg regarding the myriad of forum-requests for the ability to control external gear and/or other apps from within Gadget. The addition of the this functionality would be of great use for reasons too obvious to list here, which reasons having already been exhaustively discussed in online forums. Without having quantitative evidence yet having followed closely any new developments (there were none) up to 2017, peak clamoring for this feature seems to have been flagged as of about a year ago but i suspect this was not due to a loss of interest but due instead to 1) non-responsiveness from Korg as far as delivering - that is, actually implementing this widely requested feature and 2) sheer frustration at Korg’s lack of interest in merely confirming or denying the existence of any plans to implement the feature. So users are stuck with inelegant work-arounds for what would surely be a substantial improvement to such a great app.
Good for Urban Music Production - needs a bit more
by john10:10_music on 2017/09/17 03:15
I have been using v3.3.2 for a few weeks now and I really like it. My first degree is in Recording Arts (now I work in electrical engineering) and I have owned quite a bit of music gear. Now that I am making room for children and making music less of a priority, I really needed a more compact solution for music production - Gadget (paired with a Korg NanoKey Studio controller) has been a great compromise. My only complaints are in how irritating it can be to work with pre-recorded loops. Even with Bilbao and Abu Dhabi (an MPC-style sampler and a loop "mangler") loops aren't as straight forward as one would expect. When I work with loops, features like auto-chop and time-stretch can be really helpful. I would also love a way to record audio tracks - but this can be done in other software. For the price, Gadget is totally worth it - but, if Korg wants to help me out with the loops thing, that'd be great;)
A few months in...

I like most styles of music but prefer the old school sounds. I added Gladstone and Madrid to my gadgets and they give me exactly what I want. I’ve been mixing a little Gladstone with some Recife to get a nice mix of old and new sounds. Madrid gives me the big, driving bass sounds I have always loved and layering some extra bass from other gadgets gives me that same blend of old and new. I can get some decent lead sounds out of Madrid that emulate a real electric guitar and there’s a few decent guitar sounds on other gadgets but a dedicated guitar gadget with trills, slides, different bends(prebends, half/whole/whole+half), hammer on/offs, whammy bar/pedal, manual wah, alternate tuning, palm muting, chucking, finger tapping, etc would be great. Rosario does a great job of processing guitar sounds but I’d like to be able to add realistic sounding guitar even when my axes are not at hand.
Really amazing!
by Fretless33 on 2018/01/02 05:58
I have only begun to explore the power of this DAW. The amount of drum machines and synth apps you get included in this app is mind boggling...and they are all Korg super machines! Each included Gadget has its own unique properties and sounds...it really is a pleasure to explore. The price is steep but well worth it! I got mine 50% off for Black Friday ☺️ In the iPhone the user interface is very difficult to see, so bring your reading glasses and the way the tracks are stacked was odd to figure out that they were not just loops, but tracks stacked on one another and gadgets side by side. Once you figure that out recording becomes easy, but I still haven't figured out how to advance the cursor to specific areas without hitting play and waiting for it to hit the mark you want. There is a learning curve, but it's not impossible to figure out.
Very good music app, but still has flaws I wish were gone
by Korg Fan on 2018/03/15 23:16
Whether I draw notes or record it, I find Gadget to have the best workflow of most music apps. I wish I can divide parts of my songs to patterns in Cubasis. It’s also great that you can automate parameters of synths. My biggest problem with Gadget is that some of the Gadget synths don’t need to exist. I think Helsinki is the worst Gadget because it is literally just a tone generator with a sub-oscillator, filter, and bitcrusher. Lisbon and Kiev are what Helsinki should be. I am also disappointed by the lack of oscillator sync in Wolfsburg and Phoenix. Besides, when will MS-20 and Polysix finally have Gadget counterparts. I love Chiang Mai, Kiev, Phoenix, and Kamata. Korg Gadget is often a battery eater depending on the Gadgets. It turns the battery life of my iPad from 8 to 6 hours. Otherwise, I am happy with it.
Still an amazing experience!
by Drum and Bum on 2018/02/17 16:59
I’ve written a review before, so my ratings should be very similar. This app continues to be a complete MONSTER and since I got an iPad, I can finally use Darwin. However, the prices are costly and would recommend buying during a sale. Especially for other apps, as they’re about $30 and this is $40 for a base pack. Other than that, you’ll somehow get lost in such a massive workstation that you’ll end up with one gadget for weeks because there’s so much to control! Hopefully other KORG apps become gadgets, as I would buy those for more expandability. The only things missing are additive synthesis and FM synthesis. If we could get something like that, I’d gladly pay out $30.
Amazing app
by Lucidxxrx on 2019/09/16 02:51
Hands down my favorite iOS daw to use, I’ve bought most of the extra gadgets and standalone that run as gadget.
A revelation
by Skidoo MAn on 2017/10/14 03:37
I started recording music with hardware synths and 4-track tape up to DAW's like logic and pro tools and for me this is the best collection of plugins and the most user friendly set up I have ever experienced. It is designed to get you creating right away. A sonic work flow behind any other . Some of the highest quality soft synths I have ever used ( I'm an analog junkie) I can't believe what you get for the price and what kind of music I can now make on my IPad. Within minutes I had a groovy track and was jamming along on my hardware synth to the fanfare . For any iOS user that produces music this is a must buy . Maybe it's not for everyone but it's definitely for me . Try it!
Great but lost my work
by Brainphreak on 2018/02/03 02:07
This app is awesome to make your own music, but it’s kinda young so even some basic functionality is missing. I gave four stars because the worst thing possible happened and I lost a song... The way it happened is I was working on a song for several minutes when I needed to export a previous song. I went ahead and opened the previous song and exported. When I went back to my new song, it was missing! Even though I gave it a name it never appeared. I realized after the fact that I did not save my song, however the very basic functionality should exist to tell me to save my work before I open another song. I was not warned or anything, so my user error made me lose work due to missing basic error checking. Any other program on iOS automatically saves... any program on a computer will warn you to save the work before you close it. This lacks those two basic features making loss of work possible.
I love this app, BUT...
by TxffyTxffy on 2019/01/30 06:43
I bought the full version for Mac and I would like to be able to open projects that I started on my phone into Korg Gadget for Mac and finish them there. If this feature exists please let me know how I can do it. I also feel like if you own the full version on Mac you should get all the gadgets on the iOS app. I also want better bouncing to pro-tools and a dedicated undo button. Other than these things, I enjoy this app quite a bit. But please allow us to send projects from our phones to the desktop app. That would change my whole life! Thanks guys!
At this point...
by Applesnoranges99 on 2020/01/08 07:00
I go back and forth with this app for a variety of reasons. I look forward to the future of iOS music software... but in the meantime, I will try to be more patient and enjoy what’s currently on the menu. peace
Gidget
by mntcrisis on 2019/07/20 18:15
... was a show in the '60s.
Great sound, songwriting. Needs performance tools.
by HarryB87466 on 2018/01/17 02:26
Excellent sounds and synth tools. Even easy enough to write songs in this environment. I’d really like it to have some performance tools. Even GarageBand, a free app, has LiveLoops. I don’t even need this to be another clip launcher app, but that would be cool. The Scenes are fine for that, but if there were some better ways to use this in a performance setting that would be appreciated. Possibly shrink down the scenes into square buttons in live mode so it would be easier to fit more onto one screen for triggering. Also, some live FX and mixing tools would be great. GarageBand now has this down. Kaosspad stuff, etc. finally, midi out would be helpful from the sequenced tracks...I have a lot of Korg synths I’d like to use with it live. Generally very happy here, it just needs a little more for the money this costs.

by D33zlb0y on 2019/03/15 23:52
I love this company, their creativity and engineering is top in the EDM industry in my opinion.
Still no autosave???
by Simpson Design on 2018/08/28 11:09
I've been pointing this out for years at this point, as have numerous folks on forums. How and why there is no prompt to save before switching projects or an autosave feature is baffling. How can I reliably use any app which doesn't have these fundamental features of a modern software application? After all of the incredible funationality and power that's been packed into this app, why is such a basic and critical feature like this missing? The desktop version has this functionality. It stops me from using the iOS version from any serious production.
Ultimate Solution for Traveling
by Breakzilla on 2017/09/14 23:33
I travel almost every week for work, and for months I've been sweating over not being able to bring my Moog or Prophet on the road. Bringing a second laptop and Ableton live just isn't as portable as one would wish (especially for airplanes). I took a gamble and bought Kori Gadget... GLAD I DID! This tool is the PERFECT sketch pad for the road, and when you come home you can rebuild with your real instruments. Korg hit the ball out of the park with this!
MIDI out! 😀
by z1rome on 2019/03/02 01:29
The addition of midi out gadget was an awesome surprise. Works better than any other sequencer on the store. So far the timing has been perfect, don’t have to make adjustments after recording. Every other that I’ve used for this purpose has sync issues. Nice to be able to make a bunch of patterns on iPad then record them into a daw. Works great with hardware and software instruments. Thanks for continuing to improve the app. 5 stars all the way.
Best app best workflow
by M. Millions on 2018/06/21 19:26
I can’t say enough good things about this app. As a musician of almost 30 years Gadget helped me overcome a lot of the hurdles that I was facing ever since I started using computer based recording systems in the early 2000s. I never felt comfortable writing electronically until I started using Gadget. With that said I just wish there was more Midi options for external controllers. Also more timing options but I’m hoping all of that will come in time.
Please Add Arpeggiators to All the Synths
by john xxero on 2019/02/18 03:57
while i appreciate that the lisbon has an arpeggiator, i wish all the synths had them, especially the analog modelled ones. the odyssey and mono/poly standalone versions have arpeggiators, if i'm not mistaken, but that functionality has been removed on the gadgetized versions of those synths. i know korg is pretty good at listening to their users, so please help a brother out. i need to make some bangin' techhouse. thank you.
Fantastic DAW with Korg Plugins
by Awesome synth on 2018/04/24 23:45
I love Gadget! While it has some limitations (some of the plugins are worthless to me), it’s overall a wonderful app for sequencing, recording, editing and storing new sounds for use later, etc. Also, while recording, most of the apps allow for live parameter changes, which is a blast. For the $100 or so that I have invested in Gadget and accessory plugins, I have a stunning and highly capable tool.
Slowwwwww on iPad Pro and iOS 11
by Mr. Rasputin on 2017/12/05 09:41
I’ve been using this app for years and really do love it, but the most recent iteration is verrrrrrry laggy and slow. I’m using a brand new 10.5 inch iPad Pro too, so I’m not sure if this newest version is built for Mac OS and then ported to iPad or what, but the lag frequently makes the on-screen soft synths unplayable. If the app can’t run smoothly on the latest hardware, maybe we need to roll it back a version, Korg? It has run fine the past few years on my iPad Air 1...
Buggy!
by Tiki Man on 2018/04/02 21:23
This program would be great if it worked properly. Quantize function is useless and after correcting the time by hand the app still plays everything off time. Plus many other serious issues that make this pretty much unusable. Looking forward to updates to correct many serious issues.
Not compatible with G2?
by DBeamGeek on 2019/02/28 14:22
Does this mean older iPads that are comfortable with G1 but glitchy with G2 will have projects in limbo? If I don’t want to take the 12” Pro to a friends house, but have a smaller older iPad that runs G1 fine, that project is stuck in the old iPad? Because if I continue working on it in G2 on the Pro then there is no going back to its state in G1...right?
A beautiful walled garden
by Shabudua on 2019/09/06 02:16
Gadget won’t replace a real desktop DAW, because it doesn’t have “real” audio tracks and the sequencer is relentlessly pattern-based. But as a portable groovebox, Gadget is amazing. It’s fast, easy, and fun to work with. Your results can be easily exported as stems to other software for further development. 9/10 would buy again 👍
iPadOS issues
by Nana shaman on 2019/09/27 22:39
I love gadget! It’s my favorite go to for ideas and playing around with song structures. I’m having an issue now though. I just update me to a new iPad 11 inch pro and I reinstalled gadget but I can’t get my korg module piano and other instruments back. I hit the buy button but it just closes the app. Any ideas?
Top notch but needs more work
by housemachine on 2019/03/01 08:14
Latest update is great but need better developed effects and new modules to repackage existing into a gadget form is not innovative. Let’s see this better developed with new gadgets. Please update as Gadget is top notch but can quickly fade back compared to other daws on ios. Perhaps a volca series gadget or the type.
Needs midi out.
by Buzztheimpaler on 2018/02/20 03:44
Honestly guys, if you haven’t picked this one up yet, you should. It’s pretty close to all you’ll need to make great music. But it needs to send midi out. With such a great piano roll editor, and all the effects, it’s really a bummer it can’t pass midi to something else like a drum machine. I’d also like to see an 80s throwback drum machine gadget or a few more weird effects.
Sweet groove sketch kit for my iPad Pro!
by davefishsound on 2019/01/04 01:51
Been trying out multiple apps for catching my musical ideas while out and about. Gadget is a fine thing to have in the Groove Arsenal. With built in cloud share and expandable instruments, it gives the production a nice sparkle straight from the fingertips. Big Korg fan, also using Kaossalator app and microKorg hardware.
Would Say 5 Stars But...
by MacrothePissed on 2018/12/16 23:43
The timeline scene layout is trash... Either make it normal left to right like everyone else or add features where I can easily copy an entire scene under a different scene without having to copy and paste each and every individual track from that scene. I literally only use GarageBand and BeatMaker 3 now for that simple reason...

If it could load AU fx plugins or if it had much more control over the provided plugins I’d give it a perfect score.

Hands down the best. Rich revitalized digital instruments revived from some of the greatest eras of music. Powerful sounds. Great modular interface that’s quick and intuitive, perfect for live performance and song creation.

Korg needs to survey the iOS audio landscape and see that smaller devs are releasing interesting, powerful, work-ready apps and in comparison the Gadget is turning into a toy.

by i am el jeffe on 2019/04/09 16:08
I own both for iOS and Mac.

So... this is an amazing daw.

For crying out loud implement a Midi-out Gadget already!
by The LBCzunums on 2018/12/24 16:28

I look forward to the future of iOS music software... but in the meantime, I will try to be more patient and enjoy what’s currently on the menu. peace
Gidget
by mntcrisis on 2019/07/20 18:15
... was a show in the '60s.

MIDI out! 😀
by z1rome on 2019/03/02 01:29
The addition of midi out gadget was an awesome surprise.
Please Add Arpeggiators to All the Synths
by john xxero on 2019/02/18 03:57
while i appreciate that the lisbon has an arpeggiator, i wish all the synths had them, especially the analog modelled ones. the odyssey and mono/poly standalone versions have arpeggiators, if i'm not mistaken, but that functionality has been removed on the gadgetized versions of those synths. i know korg is pretty good at listening to their users, so please help a brother out. i need to make some bangin' techhouse. thank you.
Buggy!
by Tiki Man on 2018/04/02 21:23
This program would be great if it worked properly.
