Auto advance in zoom window not working!
by Ugh.137 on 2019/08/19 05:49
Just downloaded Good Notes 4 instead of 5, specifically because of all the complaints of the bugs in 5 and lack of some features. But really upset that when using the zoom window, auto advance is not actually working. It is on, however it does not advance correctly. It looks like it’s advancing on the larger page itself (the highlighted part of the zoom is on the RIGHT side of where I’m writing) but in the zoom window itself it is not advancing. The highlighted portion of the zoom window is on the LEFT of where I’m writing, and not matter how long I wait it will not move! I have screenshots of it and wish I can put it on this review to prove my point. This is extremely disappointing. I even reset my iPad to see if that was the issue but it is not. Someone please fix this... what’s the point of having a feature you can’t use? Absolute waste!
GoodNotes
by CraigJ.Edgin on 2019/08/18 14:14
Version 4 is great, I would wait till version 6-7 to “upgrade” though.
Good app
by Ablk12 on 2019/08/16 03:58
While this is a good app it needs the ability to record. This should have been a feature by now.
No “Search” Function capability
by mmm1234!!! on 2019/08/14 00:42
Search function does not work. I have tried a variety of PDFs and it will not search any of them (vs Notability which CAN search all the documents...)
Advertising in a paid app?
by Math HST on 2019/08/11 18:44
I don’t want to relearn a new app. That doesn’t make things easier for me. Please do not advertise the new version every time I open up my current paid version. If I want the new version, I’ll go to the App Store and purchase it. Updated: So, after many months, no response from the developer. The ad still pops up every time I open my app. I manually moved all of my files to another app and am going to delete GoodNotes and moved it to one star. Yeah, it was that important to me to not get spammed while using a paid app.
Could be better.
by ramze566 on 2019/08/05 21:06
It's better if this thing support checking two pages at same time.
Perfect
by abcddfttg on 2019/07/31 04:10
This app is so fire like I’m in middle school and I like rewrite my notes and study them on the go this app is just perfect
AWESOME!
by PoorTeacher19 on 2019/07/26 16:14
I was looking to go as paperless as possible this school year. I am new to iPad, and got goodnotes 5 to keep all my notes, planners, calendars etc. I had to delete goodnotes 5 because none of my files worked on it. (There goes my $$). So Apprehensively purchased goodnotes 4. WOW! It works! This app is amazing. I’ve had it for a week and I am already more productive than before I had my iPad. I love that you can import different files and annotate PDFs. I love the lasso tool to copy the same item to different pages that might need it. I absolutely Love this app. I did not give it 5 stars because I am still trying it out.
Great app for planners and editing PDFs
by Candycorn222 on 2019/07/26 13:54
Super love GoodNotes 4 and it was a tough choice between 4 and 5. I read that 5 had quite a few bugs so I decided to go with 4 for my first go ‘round with the app. Sometimes it crashes, or I lose my tool bar up top and need to close the app and reopen. The most irritating thing is every single time I open GoodNotes4, it prompts me to buy GoodNotes5. I should not have have to deal with this “ad” on a purchased product. Developers, please update the app and remove this. It’s obnoxious.
Great App
by God's Servant on 2019/07/21 15:17
This app allows me to be completely electronic and eliminate paper.
The new update !! :(
by superdramallama on 2019/07/19 19:40
Ok so I absolutely adore this app. I think that the format is so easy to use and that this app in many ways is essentially perfect. However, there has been a new update that makes me slightly upset. Now obviously I know that I am a person that doesn’t love change, and I know that this isn’t a big deal whatsoever, but I do not like the new color scheme on the toolbar. In this update, everything in the toolbar is grey. In my opinion that looks like it is unusable because when you cannot use a button it turns to a lighter shade of grey. Also, I cannot tell when I’ve used the undo button to where it is finished, and I think that the coloring is just plain weird. I am still going to give this app five stars because it is awesome and very intuitive, but hopefully someone sees this message and takes in what I am saying. I’d love for this app to be the best it can possibly be, that is why I am giving my opinion. Thank you!
Some things limit functionality
by michb2014 on 2019/07/14 15:25
This works, but would use it more if: Had ability to import more than 1 (image, pg, etc) at a time; Had the ability to change background color opacity; Had the ability to change fonts (including italics, bold/colors) within a single text box.
Good Notes 4 is perfect
by Muktibhukti on 2019/07/13 15:37
Flexible. Intuitive. Powerful. Elegant. Meets all my needs. Afraid to upgrade to 5.
Good apps but need update
by cbrittney22 on 2019/07/06 15:16
Both apps glitch. Please fix resizing editing and writing.
Need to pay twice to get version 5.0
by Smart lily on 2019/06/26 22:17
I already purchased version 4.0 and love to use it. However, it asks to pay again to update to 5.0 Does that mean I need to pay every time later for upgrading to 6.0, 7.0, 8.0, and so on?
So awesome
by decadegirl on 2019/06/23 22:34
Great app Makes It’s so much easier using this app instead of a book to write my appointments in... I just love it!!!
Nicely done.
by Lcoolm on 2019/06/23 21:38
Yeah still have some things to improve on . But still.. nicely done.
Ads
by Lildiva17 on 2019/06/23 17:21
I paid for this app and it really annoying that I keep getting ads for GoodNotes 5 and subscribe to get email. Please stop that from happening
Feels like paper
by SophieoftheElves on 2019/06/21 19:10
Great app! Fits exactly what I need and have been looking for with a note book app. And with the handwriting features it feels like I’m writing on paper. Love it!
Ggggrrrrrrrrrr
by jusgfoeb7hf90nw9bhfgkl on 2019/06/15 16:39
I upgraded to 5 on my iPad...why am I not able to see that upgrade on my phone?...I can’t even go into the App Store and download 5 directly to my phone...now I am no longer in sync...and what’s the point in that?...hmmm notability?
Ammazing app
by Laleonsita on 2019/06/14 17:54
This app is really great for planning journalist and making things easier. I would really recommend this
Love everything about it EXCEPT...
by Supermagnetman on 2019/06/09 18:53
I can’t figure out how to make it store all documents on my iPad without worrying about the “cloud”. The cloud sounds like a wonderful feature BUT if you are an ATT hostage you cannot count on service in lots and lots of places. So when I sit down at church and pull up the app - I expect the files to be there but this morning nothing showed up and I bought ver. 5 thinking that may help but that was no help at all - it said there were no files. Finally when I got home it immediately found the files. It is not every useful if you can only use it sitting in your house. I have used it for many years and love taking notes on it and this must be something related to a downgrade feature that must have happened a while back and I just installed recently.
Easiest note taking app
by Ballistic Bacon on 2019/06/09 01:48
Best note taking app I have tried. Controls are intuitive and the auto switch eraser (probably describing it wrong) is my favorite part. To make it 5 stars: Dark mode please
Are you kidding me?
by brianohh on 2019/06/06 07:07
This is not even a free app. Why do I have to deal with pop up add about good notes 5 EVERY SINGLE TIME I open the app?? It’s starting to annoy the nuts out of me. STOP THIS PLEASE.
Constant harassment
by Nerovingian on 2019/06/04 16:18
Please stop bothering me to upgrade every time I open the app. I paid for the app and want to use it. But the annoying ad drives me nuts and makes me want to use a different app.
Ads ads ads
by kmilz13 on 2019/06/01 17:50
I love this app; it was worth my money. However, I’m so over the fact that an ad for an upgrade pops up every. single. time. I open this app. Get rid of the ads please!
Good
by Sunny해 on 2019/05/28 08:05
Fave note taking app! Just needs voice recording and dual notebook capabilities.. it would be perfect. Better than GN5 hands down!
So much better than V5
by blasler on 2019/05/27 12:34
This older V4 version is so much better than the V5 upgrade (as of May 2019): * The insertion point works in tall text boxes instead of scrolling offscreen * Named bookmarks allow one to navigate large books * Text insertion is so smooth: click (+) and start typing; no fumbling with the insertion point * Text color and style selection is cruder, but obvious * V4 has the lasso selection (ok, v5 has that too!) * V4 backs up to more places * V4 can start its own HTTP endpoint to share documents to the local network * The 'send to GoodNotes 4' imports V5 with directories converted into Categories I'll keep v5 around and check out its evolution, but for now I recommend V4 for getting stuff done.
No, I don’t want to upgrade. STOP asking.
by Denim1917 on 2019/05/22 18:12
Literally every time I open this app it asks me to upgrade to the newer version for a fee. I bought the older version on purpose, based on the reviews. I paid $8 for it (same price as the new version). Getting asked to pay more to upgrade every time I open the app is maddening, and I can’t figure out how to make it stop, despite searching for an solution. D:<
Where is the pencil option?
by ShocNAwe on 2019/05/20 03:16
I love this app, but I really would like to see a realistic pencil option
连接onedrive总是失败
by shizju on 2019/05/19 07:12
为什么连接onedrive总是失败,而且特别慢。。windows的onedrive没问题,是不是选择的onedrive服务器有问题?
Great app
by Arielle2009 on 2019/05/16 13:55
Love the app. Use it for classes to take notes. Great, because even so I handwrite, it is still searchable, as long as I write somewhat readable haha. One thing I wished to be better: the size of the eraser should be as adjustable, as the fountain pen. Their smallest size is sometimes too big to erase only what is needed in drawings.
Updated to 4.5
by MLR123400000 on 2019/05/15 14:24
I just update to version 4.5. Now, nothing is working on my iPad!!?? Cannot send files to GoodNotes!!!! Really annoyed. I use this program Dailey for my meetings. At the moment, I’d give it zero stars if I could.
GoodNotes 4

Best app for bullet journal
by JDF233 on 2019/05/08 18:25
I'm so glad I did my due diligence and went with GoodNotes. It's an incredible work (and play) tool that has significantly increased my productivity. I used to keep a detailed bullet journal on paper where it was difficult to manage space and keep all my tasks in one location. GoodNotes was a game changer. I can add as many pages as I want, bookmarking key locations is a snap and I can search through hundreds of pages by whatever words I need. App is about 99% successful at recognizing my scrawl and getting me to the right place. Drains battery a bit but pretty manageable. Couldn't be happier
Love it but would like alphabetical bookmarks
by almost a perfect 5 on 2019/05/04 15:36
I love this app. I use it daily for work and personal. It helps organize basically everything. I would have given 5 stars if I could have the option of an alphabetical bookmark option. It lists them chronology by page #, but I would prefer alphabetical for easier reference. Other than that it’s pretty perfect!
Does everything I need
by wannabeapolyglot on 2019/05/04 00:53
Great app. Love the search function. It recognizes my sloppy handwriting with no problem.
Bugged with ads
by Buinfred on 2019/05/02 18:16
The app is constantly opening up a pop up ad for its next version.
Best App Bar None
by smbushberg on 2019/05/01 11:39
This is absolutely the best functioning and most effective app of any kind I have used on my iPad Pro. They have put in more functionality into this app than I even expected. I love this app. My only hesitancy, at this point, is whether or not to upgrade to Version 5. I love the way this app works as it already is and, given all the negative reviews regarding the upgrade, I feel that I want to wait until the next update comes along to fix the existing bugs. I hope they are able to fix version 5, but I can hardly imagine how they could improve upon perfection with version 4. Thanks for creating such a wonderful app. (New comment - 5/1/19) Would like to see the a function that allows us to rotate any individual page (as part of a workbook), as well as the ability to rotate an entire workbook.
Show you publicity
by federico-pena on 2019/04/30 13:54
The app is great, badly I pay for the Good Notes 4 when it was new and now that they have a new version (good note 5, with few improvements) they always when I open the app show me an annoying publicity to buy good note 5. This new version should be a free update and first of all if you pay $10 that is not a cheap price for an app.
Great App
by ethan_ardmin on 2019/04/28 22:44
I use this app for my job as a facility manager of a recycling firm. I love how intuitive the interface is. Highlighting and pen color changes make a huge difference — I do not want to carry around multiple writing utensils. Don’t waste time with other apps that barely offer half the utilities. Also, going paperless is a good option.
Organized and efficient ent
by Breakin Wind on 2019/04/25 01:19
It’s. Easy to set up notebooks and get organized The only thing they could improve on is the stylus tools.
Love it
by Alicebvanderveer on 2019/04/20 18:58
I love it. The only thing I wish it did was give me the ability to switch between paper types within journals. I work in science so having some graph paper pages is really helpful but I don’t necessarily need every page as graph paper
Love it
by Bilmeme on 2019/04/17 12:58
It is a wonderful app thank you
The best app on the market!
by obx divr on 2019/04/14 17:33
As a person always on the go, I love how I can take multiple notes, select the type of paper depending on the task i am trying to accomplish and how I can draw color pictures at the swipe of a finger. Thanks for the hard work you put into this application. You did an amazing job!
Absolutely phenomenal
by ChuckdotScience on 2019/04/12 12:31
I can’t believe how great this app is it’s my absolute favorite out of hundreds that I’ve downloaded over the years. The only suggestion that I could make is to clear we label the magnification box that allows you to write line by line at the bottom. That by far is the absolute best feature on the app and makes it perfect for me. Thanks.
I purchased the bundle
by alghamdiksa on 2019/04/11 09:50
Hey, I just purchased the bundle and came with GoodNotes 4&5 but the GoodNotes 5 can’t be downloaded? What should I do at this time I need help here!

Not interested.
Hopefully you can add these abilities
by 黄子韬棒棒哒 on 2019/04/04 20:00
First, I hope we can collect our handwritings or things we draw, use them anytime we want. Second, I hope we can edit the typing that is already done. Third, add more new pages by one click.
More than I expected
by kemblr on 2019/04/03 14:39
Before buying this application, I had read some reviews that gave me an idea of what to expect. A few reviews were not good, but I decided to explore. After using it frequently, I come to the conclusion that this application is more than what I expected.
Practical and Useful
by Ho San on 2019/04/02 18:16
I’m still learning how to use the multiple features of this very useful app. I look forward to using it for a long time to come.
GoodNotes 4 superior to 5
by SEM84 on 2019/03/31 20:43
GoodNotes 4 is an easy to use, smooth, intuitive program. Performs as expected with few to no glitches. I recommend it to everyone. Please don’t legacy this app before fixing all the issues with GoodNotes 5.
No Mac Version
by --Skybird-- on 2019/03/31 02:16
There is currently no Mac version which makes this app for me kind of useless.
waste of my money
by Checkerlily on 2019/03/30 17:07
I bought the app for a specific purpose. I was excited to get started on my first notebook, played around with the tools and was quickly getting in to it. I switched to a different app to export some drawings. Switched back to add them in to my new notebook, and I could no longer open the notebook. It’s still there but fails to open. I guess I’m thankful I didn’t invest even more time than I did, but still....
App functionality is great but drains battery big-time
by Chipboy07 on 2019/03/30 01:13
I get an annoying pop-up every time I launch Good Notes that suggests that I upgrade to version 5. Based on battery drain issues and now having all of my files deleted during the last update, there’s no chance that I’d pay more money to upgrade. Will start to look for other alternatives like One Note. ———- I’ve had the app for a while but just recently noticed that my iPad battery was draining quickly. Looking at the battery diagnostic, it shows that GoodNotes is using 70%+ of my battery usage. Assume this is a problem with recent updates.
Add black paper

by Jane2361652 on 2019/03/27 16:54
This is a really good app if you like take notes on an iPad as if it were a piece of paper I would recommend it anybody
Love it!
by PatVi27 on 2019/03/25 02:31
So far this is one of my favorite apps! I love the fact that I can take notes as if I was using a real notepad, not only that but I can also personalize each notepad with different colors and covers. So with this app I get the best of both worlds.
Great and Efficient
by Nanenono on 2019/03/22 04:47
I love this app. Since I have been working on it I have referred at least 7 people in just 2 months because other professionals Associates have seen how efficient it is. Love the highlight feature and change of pen colors and thickness of lines. I have been able to sign docs quickly and categorize notes. Thanks for a great app. No more 15 separate notebooks everywhere.
Greatness With CAVEAT
by CitizenA on 2019/03/19 04:31
I’ve been an avid user of the app since it was introduced. In fact - it was reading books and this app that made me buy my 12.9/iPad Pro. (But, I digress.) The app has saved me and made me lots of business opportunities. CAVEATS - I now use both GoodNotes 4 and 5. Four on the iPad and the iPhone - but exclusively 4 on the iPhone since I have not updated my iPhone to iOS 12, thus GoodNotes 5 is not yet available to me. The buggy software in iOS 12 will hopefully be resolved with 12.1.5 or eventually 13 after Dev conference? Second caveat is the iOS iCloud refreshes that stall the access to documents I’ve saved to my device - but don’t have immediate use of. In GoodNotes 5, that problem is resolved. No waiting. It’s quick. Not so on 4. So, I wait patiently, close the app and try again until it’s resolved. Fixing these issues would move my opinion from a 4-star rating to a 5. The program is that good and that pivotal to the sketches, design and planning-work I use it for. Please and thank you.
Exactly what I have been looking for
by Yakimastubbs on 2019/03/18 21:00
This app is easy to use and very intuitive. I have been looking for an application like this for the last 10 years, I am happy to have finally found it. It has replaced the yellow pad for my client interviews and makes it very easy for me to share the information with my assistant. I can also do proposals on the run without logging a lot of excess paperwork with me.
No Mac App
by KRP333 on 2019/03/18 14:43
Version 4 had a Mac app that added utility to GoodNotes. The Mac app is not compatible with GoodNotes 5. I would not have upgraded from 4 to 5 had I known this. The developer should have been transparent about this.

Great, but missing a few things
by studdddybuddy on 2019/03/18 00:42
I really love this note taking app, it’s been essential to making going back to college again, a breeze. I wish it would have a feature to be able to construct a table or graphs inside of it. I wish that you were also able to record lectures along with the notes as well, as someone else deduced to. Overall, a wonderful app but could use a few improvements.
Really good note taking application
by Hblessons on 2019/03/17 03:36
Use this for work. I like that it features OCR and that I can search for entries that I have made. The Apple Pencil makes that feature even more effective as it presents a clearer handwriting experience. When using other pens and an older IPad, it was a little less effective. I like that I can copy and paste my notes in to other apps, for example an email. One thing I would like to see is the ability to insert a checkbox style list as can be done on my Galaxy note 8’s note feature. This would be helpful to have to-do lists that would be interactive and up to date as a result.
Be paperless!!
by T_deka on 2019/03/15 13:13
This review is not for the customer but fir the app developer who made it. First of all I love this app. It fantastic. THE ONLY THING I HATE AND DISTURBED is every time I open this app the freakin add comes up to get GoodNotes 5. I don’t wanna look that add any more and if I want then I will get it myself. Don’t keep pushing the users like that. That’s ANNOYING. Please do something, if not then I’m sorry. It will be a ZERO recommendation for all the users.

So. I bought this app because I wanted to to try digital planning. I am so glad I did it. I started off using it with just my Mac book and my iPhone then I bought the iPad 6 generation and the pencil. Love it. It was so worth it. I am in love with digital planning with this app. It makes it so easy.
Words are overlapping when opening ppt

Screen lagging
by MargotHLM on 2019/03/06 19:19
I didn’t have any problems with this app until after GoodNotes 5 came out. I don’t want to switch because I’ve gotten used to gn4. But the screen has started lagging since the new version’s release and I’m getting frustrated..
Update
by JoshuasMommy on 2019/03/06 15:52
I shouldn’t have to pay again just to get the updates. The palm setting is now gone. I rest my hand on the iPad while writing and now it is beyond difficult to get notes done. Bring back this feature.

Wanted to love this as an alternative to Notability, but this app CONSTANTLY crashes!
THE WORST DECISION IVE MADE SO FAR IN 2019
by Justcuzz5 on 2019/02/27 13:51
The worst decision I’ve made so far in 2019.... literally can’t write notes without the screen zooming out and leaving a huge line in the middle of writing my notes. Stick with the free app-it’s ugly but it works
Rotten
by Tv876543678 on 2019/02/25 15:34
I know about GN5 and picked GN4 bc of all the bad reviews. I'd like to be able to take notes without declining the offer to upgrade up to a dozen times a day. Nag screens don't incline people to update, they make them want to uninstall and move on to an app that doesn't get in the way, like this one does. So gn4 constantly bothers the user and, according to reviews, gn5 is hot mess. It's not even about app's quality anymore, it's about paying your money and being left alone to use it. Something this app fails at. I'm sorry I bought this.
Almost perfect.

Except for the eraser.

Math Teacher Loves It
by MocPianoMan on 2019/02/21 22:32
If you are a teacher (in any discipline) but math especially, look no further. This app has TRANSFORMED how I teach and keep my materials organized. It is loaded with features that make it functional for daily use. I have never had any issues with crashing, lost notes, or data not being saved. Create documents from scratch or import PDFs seamlessly! I always airdrop PDFs from Mac. I use this app daily in my 6th Grade Math classroom. One of my favorite features is the laser pointer. If you would love to cast to your projector or tv wirelessly, GoodNotes 4 serves as the perfect interface. Get this app!

I love this app. Easy to use. I use it to write lectures notes for a class I teach. Works great.
Best $8 I’ve ever spent
by Ilovebrits on 2019/02/19 04:23
I usually won’t even pay 99 cents for an app but I’ve been looking for a pdf editor for my class readings and every one I looked at was always glitchy and didn’t have any good features. I finally decided to give this a try and it was 100% worth it. Perfect for editing and annotating PDFs and taking and organizing notes in class!
I like using GoodNotes!
by Claudia5j on 2019/02/17 21:07
The app is easy to use, and I like that I can keep what looks like a book cover for each set of notes. I find it easy to use and love going paperless!
Clear screens clear tabs
by thebestnicknameEVR on 2019/02/17 03:35
Did you know when you clear out your screens (windows?) on iPad that when you go back and open the app your tabs are gone. I still prefer this version of GoodNotes until I can customize my folders in GN5 - until then it’s just an ugly home screen. 😢🤷🏻‍♀️ but I would really appreciate if the next update went back to leaving my open tabs alone.

GoodNotes 4 is Awesome
by Conradcr on 2019/02/16 23:26
GoodNotes 4 is a super powerful tool for the busy salesman or manager. You can create several files to work multiple projects and also keep a bullet journal all in your iPhone and it will upload and update on your iPad and MacBook. Don’t buy GoodNotes 5. It’s not worth the money and it actually removes features to make it into a better coloring book.
Great app for ipad
by Jenny22e on 2019/02/15 11:08
Overall, this app is amazing. But one thing, i wish there is a split view function so that i can see 2 files at the same time. Like it would be very useful for students who take notes from there PowerPoints and they can open both note taking pages and the ppt at the same time.
The Team behind this app is doing a superb job!

Not worth it
by Chiedas on 2019/02/11 19:27
Almost every file I upload has formatting issues, often times missing parts of the document altogether. Other apps on the app store don’t have such issues. Also charging $8 for one version, and the wanting us to pay again for an update is disgusting.
I LOVE the app BUT,
by tsota1972 on 2019/02/11 16:06
This is an app I paid for and I should not have ads... however, every time I open it you have a pop up for me to purchase GoodNotes 5. I don’t want to purchase GoodNotes 5 nor do I want to click “not at this time” or whatever it says in order to use the app. Please remove that pop up.

Notebooks are gone
by l7504 on 2019/02/09 02:23
If it were possible to give negative stars I would. Several notebooks with lots of notes disappeared. I’ve tried every online fix and nothing works. I will never use this app again.
Great app for students!
by Sarak.and.her.books on 2019/02/09 01:02
I picked up this app as a full-time undergraduate, and I was, admittedly, a little skeptical. I’d tried other note apps and found myself disappointed with them, but this one is just perfect. I love the ability to create different notebooks within the larger categories, and I love the realistic writing with the Apple Pencil. All around, I thoroughly enjoy using this app, and I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.
What is this
by Malinda33 on 2019/02/08 01:44
Perhaps my fault as I was looking for simplicity and a way to digitize my notes. This should be simple to understand the more I started using it the crazier things would get. Wish I could get my money back.
Great app but
by Priggish1989 on 2019/02/08 01:04
Love the app and its uses, but hate you have to buy the new version every time. Good notes 5 is out and Id have to buy that to get it. Would be great if they just updated the current app
Really like it; except there are 2 features that are missing
by Bearcat1234kitty on 2018/10/23 01:47
GoodNotes is so close to being my go to note-taking app except it’s missing 2 features. 1) being able to record or import audio to accompany the notes. This is a feature that Notability has that makes me use notability more frequently than GoodNotes. If this were possible to do with GoodNotes, I’d immediately stop using Notability. 2) the ability to add more than one photo at a time to my notes. With taking courses such as Mammalogy or an anatomy lab or biology labs which involve differentiating specimens, I’ve taken multiple photos for one specific specimen. And this usually results in having around 100 photos for a single 3hr lab period. An example is having 5 species of bats to identify based on their fur and overall size as well as skeletal features such as teeth and skull. I have to go through my photos one by one to add for each feature of all 5 species. It would take 1 min if I could select maybe up to 5 photos at once to add; allowing me to focus on differentiating and actually creating notes. Instead, it takes 5-10minutes to add each photo individually. Do this for 5 species and just adding the photos turns into a 50 minute task. Unfortunately, only Microsoft OneNotes allows this function, but its format is significantly inferior to GoodNotes that I rather GoodNotes take initiative and provide this since it seems like a function easier to fix than Microsoft fixing their entire formatting.
This app is amazing
by riddled1103 on 2017/11/28 16:22
I have schizophrenia so I am very disorganized. This iPad Pro has been my best investment I have ever made. I call it my brain. GoodNotes is the best app (along with Things 3) on my iPad. I like to read great books and take notes. I have a Kindle Fire, with a huge book library, and it has a note taking feature, but with the way my mind works I found it to be inefficient. I tried paper notes in a Moleskine, but after making so many notes, after a while it would take forever to find a particular note I needed. GoodNotes solved all these problems for me. I can take handwritten notes. And the writing is just as smooth as pen and paper. There is no lag at all. And I have created notebooks for each area of my life. I have a category for Christianity that has these notebooks: Bible Study Notes, Prayer Journal, and sermon notes. Then I have a reading category that include a reading journal, and a Commonplace book to write the most life changing quotes I come across. Then I have my writing category that includes my personal Journal, and a notebook for rough drafts of research papers, essays, poems etc. And finally I have a brainstorming category which includes notebooks containing Mind Maps and free writing of ideas that I have. If I was to buy Moleskines for all these notebooks, I would have spent a small fortune. Plus with the handwriting recognition and search, I can go directly to whatever note I want. Purely amazing.
The first app that might actually get me to go paperless
by Mlhbenz on 2018/10/14 02:56
I LOVE this app, I hesitated to buy it for the longest time because I have been trying to go paperless for well over a year now and have tried every note app out there including Evernote, notability, noteshelf, etc. I’ve spent over 40 bucks on note apps that I use consistently for a couple of weeks and then I’m back to paper. None of the previous apps held my attention for one reason or other. I’ve been using GoodNotes consistently for about 4 months now and I love it. I recently used just this to study for a major exam I had and it was so amazing to just have to carry around my iPad and Apple Pencil and be able to study whenever I had a free moment instead of having notebooks and books. Plus being able to take pictures of slides and materials and write right on them really helped with retaining information. Also I can switch seamlessly between taking notes on my iPad and looking at them on my iPhone without missing a beat. I have a Paperlike screen protector I’m using with goodnotes and its an awesome “notebook like” experience and as close as I think I can get to paper without the weight and waste. Suggestion to developers: The only thing I wish was different is I hope they get way more notebook covers and paper types (COLORED PAPER!!) I have a lot of notebooks in my app and have exhausted all the existing covers so I’m hoping to see a lot more options.
Could easily upgrade to a 5 star app
by DawnBuis on 2018/12/13 13:29
So first, I love this app!!! It's easy to use. Intuitive in its lay out and they seemed to have thought of a lot of uses. So why did I give it only 4 stars? First, you can't collaborate with other GoodNote users. I have been using this app to journal and track horses training records. My barn manager and body worker uses the app to track health care and body work. Between the two of us, we have 2 journals that we can't easily compile and we can't see the work that the other has done without sending screen shots to each other or sending the whole journal and having to re-upload to a cloud somewhere on the regular (which is time consuming and comber some). It would also be nice if my riding student could share their riding journals with me so I can see what their thoughts were or what they were feeling during the ride. Second, the face that I had to pay for the app twice, once for my iPad/iPhone and then again for my Mac was annoying. I understand that not everyone needs both, but let's face it that most of us use it on both platforms. Other than those two little hiccups, I love this app and would highly recommend this to others.
I had this app forever, but now I understand its power
by mikeymike1223 on 2018/01/19 17:00
I don’t give five-star reviews, but GoodNotes deserves it. I started using it a few weeks ago with an iPad Air 2 and the Adonis Pixel stylus and it was phenomenal, we had to shift some gear around in our home and I needed a new upgrade, even my skeptical wife loves the way the Apple Pencil works with GoodNotes on the iPad Pro! A practical example: I use Evernote for gathering all my electronic loose ends. I had been searching for a good handwriting solution since Microsoft OneNote first came around, but that turned me away from ink. I used to use InfoSelect back in the days of MS-DOS and liked the feature that let you create individual calendars, say to track a certain kind of event, like when you last had your oil changed. I don’t want this on my “main” calendar, it’s not important, but I want to be able to track it. GoodNotes lets me create a kind of analog solution for that - I can create a monthly calendar in Excel using a template, save it as a PDF, bring it into GoodNotes and then mark it up. I can also view it on my iPhone or Mac. I find myself reverting to the daily piece of paper to-do list, and as I make notes I can later copy and paste the relevant sections into Evernote. (I have a notebook for vendors, so if I call Comcast about something I keep notes and whether they’re ink or text, they’re dated, and I can find what I need). That’s key for me, where did I save it!
Missing: Vertical/ Continuous Scrolling and Splitview
by GiacomoMC on 2018/11/29 00:40
I love GoodNotes, and use it on a daily basis along with Notability. I can’t, however, use this app exclusively until these two features arrive. I think the “virtual notebook” layout is more intuitive and smarter than the file system in Notability, and I find that my handwriting is neater on GoodNotes compared to Notability. But until vertical scrolling and split view come to this app, I will only be able to use it as a secondary device. Additionally, it would be nice to implement some small features that come from Notability. The ability to hold down at the end of a stroke to make a straight line is more intuitive to me than having to click the shape button first (although for all shapes other than straight lines GoodNotes’ solution is fair superior than Notability’s). It would be nice to be able to rotate text that is selected, and I don’t understand why you can’t already do this. Finally, although I personally don’t use it, the ability to record audio that is paired with your notes seems to be something many users are clamoring for. I hope that the developers of this app are able to implement these features soon, because their lacking is holding this app back from being a good secondary choice to a fantastic primary one.
Really good BUT next time...

I have been trying lots of note taking and drawing apps to integrate into my Physics classroom. This app is my favorite software for writing out answer keys to documents I give my students. I can also create lovely diagrams and seamlessly integrate them into my Microsoft word documents using airdrop and screenshots. I like that the figure drawing snaps right into the pdf, no odd layering to deal with. I also like that the lasso tool lets you move and rescale just about any figure. A few things I am looking forward to be included next round are: having the option to automatically fill the closed polygon that you made, inside of the text box it would ideal to have an equation editor built in with subscripts , fractions and standard Greek symbols. When using the lasso tool being able to rotate a figure or change its position front to back would be also be fantastic. Again over all the things I have tried (notability*, notepad+, explain everything*, adobe draw) this works the best for my Physics classroom, was appropriately priced and easy to learn. I will point out the Apps * have voice recording features while this app doesn’t but that’s ok for me)
Don't get if you NEED or WANT your notes!
by PhoenixFiresky on 2018/08/06 05:19
I'm keeping a digital bullet journal that contains ALL my essential information. Except when I open it, and the whole folder has deleted itself. Should've known there would be problems when I saw a workaround for this issue in the dev's FAQ section. Well, the instructions didn't work, and I desperately needed my info back, so I contacted the dev. After two days, he got back to me and said "sounds like Apple storage isn't working right for you." That was it. I asked a follow up question and got zero help. I finally figured out how to get some of the info back, but not all of it. Frankly, I am learning to despise this app. It's most likely to delete everything after I've spent hours inputting new stuff. It doesn't save the most recent stuff before deleting the notebook, so hours of work can go down the tubes in seconds. It's happened twice today. I'm trying to be patient, and just keep rebuilding, but for such an expensive app, I feel that the app should work and the dev should support it. I'm giving up, and looking to go to the competition. It may not do everything that Goodnotes does, but as long as it actually KEEPS the information put into it, I'm beyond caring. All the bells and whistles in the world don't help if there's no basic functionality.
ALMOST Perfect!
by Nora098 on 2018/10/19 05:48
This was the first digital writing app that I purchased, the other being Notability, and I absolutely love it!!!! I love how customizable the paper, notebook covers, pen/highlighter colors , and pen sizes are. HOWEVER, my only wish is that it would incorporate an audio recording tool such as Notability! I’m always on the lookout for this because it seems like years since it was mentioned to be in the works on the GoodNotes website. For that reason alone, I find myself having to resort to Notability for its audio capabilities, which really annoys me because I really prefer GoodNotes when it comes to formatting and writing. Even though I end up using Notability on the daily for school, I do find myself returning to GoodNotes to write on documents, PDFs, textbooks, and other readings. Its perfect for annotating texts! Overall, this is an amazing app! The functions are very customizable and can be easily fitted to the user! The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because it has failed to develop the audio function, which thousands of similar users like myself have upvoted on its Request Feature page on the GoodNotes website.
Versatile, useful, and private - pretty much perfect
by longstockinggirl on 2018/06/02 15:26
I handle sensitive documents, so a robust, user-focused privacy policy is nonnegotiable. That eliminated most of the Apple Pencil note taking apps on the market from consideration. However, GoodNotes app is fully GDPR compliant and provides user defined choice of backup and syncing options. Plus, the ability to leave documents local on my iPad is a valuable and appreciated option. More than the privacy respect, though, is the app’s usefulness. It handles everything from book-length pdf files to shopping lists to quick brainstorming sketches to children practicing penmanship. It works flawlessly with my Apple Pencil. GoodNotes is a workhorse, by far the most used app I own. Worth every penny. Bonus, their Twitter team are nice, helpful and funny! Lastly, their email list is a non intrusive, helpful way to dig deep into the app’s more esoteric and specialized functionality. Overall, I think this is hands down one of the best apps in the App Store. For anyone who wants to either go paperless or have a true notebook-style digital alternative, there is not a better app than GoodNotes.
Almost perfect
by gpzmike on 2018/03/19 12:21
I like this app in all aspects except one: the GUI. I just find the GUI to be overly spartan and unwelcoming. Some of the other apps I've tried have GUI's that are warm and welcoming - I WANT to use them just to be in their environment. Short of that, these are the things I do enjoy about GoodNotes: 1. Photo import and annotation: I annotate a lot of photos for work (home remodel and repairs). Full screen import, pics stay very clear even at the extremes of zoom, annotation is easy and I like the pen flow rates. Annotations stay clear and precise at any zoom level. 2. Structure and tabbed viewing: I like the drop down style listing of files over the screen hogging left side index style used in other apps. All in all, this app does what I need it to do. Sure, it could have more bells and whistles like OCR and recordings, etc. But in the end, I think it's a solid, extremely functional, & no-nonsense app. I still have about 4 different apps of this style on my iPad and this is the one I return to again and again every time I think about trying one of the other ones because I like their GUI more. They just don't back it up like GoodNotes does.
Some great usability with room to grow.
by Nicaroonie on 2018/05/22 18:55
The main reason I got this app was to be able to search my handwritten notes in the future which I am very impressed with so far. I’m a little dissatisfied with lack of control in filing notes/ notebooks in to folders, limited paper choices/ hideous cover designs, and not having the option to choose whether I want to continue to scroll my pages as opposed to having to swipe to set up a new page. I’ve used more attractive note taking apps but being able to search my hand written notes without having to pay the ridiculous fees with Evernote is fantastic. I imagine this app will just get better. To add to my wish list I’d also like the ability to create sub folders/ categories to further organize notes and documents. Also the ability to arrange the notes in any location I want without being limited by only the built in name and date options. My folders are becoming cluttered and difficult to search without having to type in a key word. Hopefully we’ll see a substantial update soon.
Note Taking
by Farmwife89 on 2018/09/11 20:19
I am on several committees, need a place to store my files from my continuing education classes (I’m a CPA), and when helping kids with homework and just need some scratch paper, I open GoodNotes. I have Master Folders for all of my committees where I download all my agendas and meeting files where I can take notes, I have more master folders for home, work, shopping lists, etc. When I help my kids with homework (especially math and algebra), I can make notes and print them out for the kids to review. I have even taken it into a job interview to write my notes with my Apple Pencil. I really can’t live without my GoodNotes! The only thing I wish came with it, was a planner option that integrates with the Apple Calendar. It’s too bad that Apple hasn’t allowed the Apple Pencil to be able to write in the calendar. I love that there are different templates out there for paper sizes, notebook covers, etc. I’m not artistic and I’m glad someone else has created these for me. Thanks GoodNotes, this was more that worth the cost!
Super duper
by jaycias_favorite on 2018/10/25 05:12
Love the app. Allows me to annotate and keep track of things where other apps fell short. The folder/category interface was a little frustrating at first, but no biggie once I got used to it. There are 2 things that would help: maybe add the ability to store pens/tools in the top portion, kind of like how onenote does it? I project onenote from my ipad during my classes, but I would use goodnotes if it didn’t take multiple taps to change color or pens, etc. And there just seems to be a lot of wasted space up top at the moment. Also, this is just a personal preference, but I would rather have highlighters with a straight edge instead a rounded one. The rounded one looks more like a marker. This one is totally subjective, but just thought I would think out loud. Overall, great app. Love that I can share/print regular page sizes, not super long images like onenote. Also, syncing through icloud has been a little less glitchy than other cloud based notes. And especially like that I can reorder the pages or add in between pages. Thanks.
Doesn’t make full use of iOS 11 Files app capabilities
by srd606284 on 2018/03/16 21:40
GoodNotes has a lot of great features. But its file storage and management system is frustrating to me. 1). GoodNotes doesn’t show up as an option for “Open In” in Box or Dropbox. It does show up as a “Copy To GoodNotes” option. But this doesn’t allow editing of the original file. It just creates a copy, which means I now have two of the same file, the original and the one I annotate in GoodNotes. 2) Related to the above: When I finish annotating a PDF, because I have “Copied To GoodNotes”, the new file is saved under GoodNotes’ backup folder (usually located in the cloud service you choose at setup). This means all of GoodNotes files are saved in one location. There is no option to open a PDF from another location, “Open In” GoodNotes, and then “Save Back” to the file’s original location. 3). There is no folder that shows up in the Files app for GoodNotes. I assume this means no local storage. It also means difficult interaction for file management.
The best note taking app
by 157audio on 2018/05/31 09:51
I have tried most of the notebook and note taking apps on the App Store, but goodnotes finally let me go truly paperless. I’m still on my iPad air1, and the zoom window and a regular stylus is the easiest to use of any app because it doesn’t get in the way of writing at all. In most other apps I haven’t found the zoom window to be helpful, it was more confusing and slowed me down. I’ve tried the adonit Bluetooth stylus with this and it was great until it unfortunately broke, but the others I’ve tried did not work as well. Goodnotes implemented them well but the styli themselves just didn’t do it well. Now I’m using just an ordinary stylus with mesh tip or my thicker Bluetooth stylus with the batteries removed, with matte screen protector and that seems to work best for me. Anyway, the sync works great and I also have it on my Mac so that any changes I make are also reflected on there, then I can print my notes easily at my office (they still need paper copies for records) where we don’t have an AirPrint compatible printer. Importing pdf’s is easy and I mark them up, and I’m also using this to write music charts for wedding gigs and exporting those directly to forscore, so no more charts imported with the camera that wind up looking all sorts of ways. You won’t be sorry if you get this app. Someday I’ll get an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil and having tried a Friend’s setup I already know this works great for goodnotes.
Great App!
by Inventory Scanner on 2018/05/09 13:35
I’ve been using this app since the beginning of the semester and so far I’ve really been enjoying it. I enjoy the notebook selections/management, export options, and toolbar selections. I do find it quite unproductive to have to select multiple times when changing pen thickness, color, eraser thickness, etc. An integration of one selection for all options in one pane would be nice. Also, I’m having the issue of constantly having to zoom in and out of PDF files when I’m annotating them without using the actual zoom in box. When I’m in lecture, my Professor talks very quickly so using the zoom box to write on the PDF lecture slides takes too much time because I can’t see what’s exactly on the entire PDF and have the writing come out fluidly at the same time. I would like the ability to write freely wherever I want on the PDF without having to zoom in and out (to avoid distorting the writing) or without having to use the zoom box every time. Thanks developers!
Thank you!
Almost perfect... more pens please!
by G Fones on 2018/01/19 23:31
I’ve used about every note taking app out there on iOS and have even developed my own (but for Tablet PC). This has great potential and I can almost use it for studying and taking high volumes of medical notes but please PLEASE PLEASE... add two (or three) more customizable pens to the top toolbar. There is room! Clicking 2 times to change colors or 3 times to change color and thickness takes toooooo long when writing notes in a lecture (usually 30-50 detailed pages in 40 minutes). Zoom has a change color feature, but zoom is not the best option as I need to jump around the page rather than write linear notes. I can say that I’m not the only one these detailed class that wishes to have this feature. Just a few more custom pens... please! As for backgrounds... I’d love being able to add my own paper template or cover book as well. Or even changing the transparency option on some of the ruled as there are a number of paper backgrounds but some are a little over powering for me. More importantly, some note taking (complex math, languages, or lab observations) can benefit with customized left & right single or double lined margins, so the template feature it very very handy! As for note taking itself... very response and I can tell the developers have made use of apple's API for predictive writing with the Pen. Well done. A great app that doesn’t disappoint and even better with just a few extra features... ;)
Loving it buuuuuut.....
by JoynellC on 2018/05/01 14:04
So I’ve been using goodnotes for everything since I got it and I am absolutely loving it ❤️ it writes really smooth and it’s so easy organize. I love that I can add my own page templates since I love writing on dotted paper, it’s awesome that I’m not just limited to what’s in the app. My one big complaint with goodnotes is that I wish it had the capability to record and play back audio in the app. That would really help me when reviewing notes on lectures. That’s the one thing I think notability has on goodnotes. Notability lets you record audio and still write at the same time. Then plays back the audio and takes you to the page you were on when that part was recorded. Which is such a nice feature to have when you’re trying to keep up with a lecture. A smaller complaint I have is that I wish it had more pen options. This is the one part of the app that has relatively stayed the same throughout the updates. It’d be nice to have more options :)
Fantastic Note-Taking App
by Iron Chef on 2018/01/14 01:29
I use this daily (with my iPad Pro and Apple Pencil) for work purposes: to record meeting notes, telephone conference notes, and occasional brainstorming or outlining. The search function works great and recognizes my handwriting almost perfectly—on rare occasion it can’t recognize what I’ve written. Templates can be created relatively easily. If I had a complaint, it’s that exported PDFs are too large in file size. Also, the help/“user manual” could be better, but all of my questions were answered eventually. Otherwise, fantastic. If you need to record audio AND sync that to your notes, check out Notability, because GoodNotes doesn’t do that. But since that function would have limited utility for me, it’s a non-issue. I’ve been using this since late June 2017 and cannot imagine working without it. It also gets significant use at home for basically anything I would typically write down with pen and paper.
Amazing but.....
by yusef valinasab on 2017/11/11 08:52
it is really amazing and wonderful. I really prefer it over other apps. I have tried lots of apps and compared them but this one is amazing. But I hope the developer considers some shortcomings. 1. when i select a shape or a writing and try to resize it, it expands from the center!!! it is really annoying because in 99% of the times we need to resize our shapes or writing just in 0NE direction. e. g. when I have a line in my note and want to expand it just to the other side at the paper, it expands to the both sides and I have to drag and replace my line again. 2. when i select a shape or handwriting and change its color, there is no option to change its thickness!!! when I resize my handwriting it goes very thin and I have to write it again because most of the times i don't want my writing that thin! i think these two options are essential for a superior app like this. I really appreciate if these options are included in the next updates, Thank you.
Good but Not Perfect
by Kings1857 on 2018/08/31 19:43
I’ve been using this app in all my classes’ note-taking. To be frankly, they have the best hand-written experience of all similar APPs. I gave four stars because there are some functions that is poor-developed and that really limits my note-taking quality. First, the typing function is extremely weak. When you add a new text box, surely you can type, but all texts in the same text box will be edited together: same color, same size, same font, (and move together). I personally is a handwritten person, but sometimes I still need to type and this limitation really lower me efficiency since I need to add many text box to make different content in different sizes and color. Hopefully Goodnotes can make some changes that allow us to edit text separately as we want. Second, there is no sound recording function of dictation. This is not as important as the text problem but still it would be an advantages for Goodnotes to add this on.
Great app, but a few bugs since iOS 11
by GushTerp on 2018/01/31 14:27
Overall this is a great note taking app. I love the handwriting capabilities. I love the zoom feature for writing and the quick shortcuts to change pen color or to eraser. I also like the great integration with various cloud drives so I can easily import and export files and notes. My biggest overall problem with GoodNotes is that it doesn’t work well if you want to simply type a lot of your notes. You have to go and click to add a text box and then type- and it doesn’t even format like a normal page of text then. Finally, since iOS 11, I’ve found that writing directly on the paper (without using the zoom feature) is very buggy and doesn’t write the way I intend to (many of my letters look squished or angular when I don’t want them to). Additionally, the dock easily gets pulled up accidentally when I’m writing toward the bottom of the screen and then it interferes with my writing because it gets in the way. Hardware: 2017 iPad and Adonit Jot Pro stylus Update: since whatever the last update was, the app frequently doesn’t draw the line or shape that I want. I draw it, it appears as I’m drawing it, and then as soon as I lift up off the screen, it disappears and I have to draw it again. Maybe the sensitivity for unintended marks is too high? Please fix! This is very annoying and I frequently think I drew something and when I go back, it’s not there.
Good job, GoodNotes!
by queen_bee0123 on 2018/07/01 01:33
Where do I start with GoodNotes? GoodNotes is a magical experience for me. I have a passion for digital planning and bullet journaling and GoodNotes is the platform to do it on. I love the intuitive feeling of having notebooks. It feels like an enhanced version of pen and paper, not something completely alien, which I love! I use GoodNotes for journaling and school note taking. It exceeds every expectation. Everything I think I have a problem with has a solution; however, sometimes I do need to do some searching around to find said solution. For example, I’m still unsure whether or not there is a way to delete the “uncategorized” category, as all my notebooks have a category and now every time I open the app I’m met with an empty gray screen instead my notebooks just waiting to be filled. Other than that, I think GoodNotes is well worth the money, and it’s the best notebook app I’ve tried/come across.
Nearly perfect, But just a few considerations
by CookieElle on 2018/06/28 15:55
I absolutely love GoodNotes 4. It has been my go-to notebook app since I had an iPad Air 2 used an Adonit Pixel Stylus. Just a few minor features I would like to be considered: -Page Organization: I love how the notebooks are organized, however it has been rather difficult for me to navigate through the pages of my notebook. There is a feature that allows me to view all the pages to sort and batch delete. However, for my notebook that have lots of pages, it’s a bit difficult to find the page that I am looking for. It takes a moment to sift through the page that I want to get to if I want to review or add content to that page. It’s not necessary, but the time it takes to do so is enough for me to lose my train of thought. If there is a way to add searchable titles or a content page, that would be extremely useful. -Additional Color Slots: I love the palette feature. Could we maybe add another slot or two for more color options? I think there is some space to do so... -Page Background: not a necessary feature but I do think it would be pretty cool if it were possible to edit the background of the page. Clearly the page organization is the main feature I would like to see incorporated into the app. Otherwise, out of the many note-taking apps I have, this app is the primary app I use for shorter notebooks.
Great for more than just taking notes!
by A Capella singer on 2017/11/11 18:26
For potential app users, I am a college student and I love this app!!! Definitely worth buying. It has a lot of great features like different line colors, varying thickness, you can move sections of notes if you need to, copy sections of notes to paste somewhere else, and much more. Works great with an Apple Pencil (and apparently other smart stylus). I love using this app for more than just taking notes in class! I use it for scratch paper to do online homework and, for some classes, my written homework. Since I have all my files backed up on Google Drive (and you can link to other online storages), I can print it anywhere! I also do practice tests on this app because you can export PDF’s directly into the app. For the developers, Here are a couple of features I’d love to see on future updates: 1. A rotate capability whenever I select pictures, text, or annotations. It’s a little frustrating that I can only rotate when I first paste a picture into my notes. I would especially love to draw squares then be able to rotate them. 2. Improve the writing experience. This is a feature I don’t use often because when I do type, I usually want to consistently type and this app is just not set up to do that well. I just opt to use Word instead when I want to type out my notes for class.
Essential for Teachers
by furym42 on 2017/10/18 15:17
This app has completely replaced the smart board in my classroom. I use it on an iPad Pro with Apple Pencil and Apple TV connected to a wall mounted television. I am able to project all my pdf worksheets, complete problems for the students using a notebook, and import pictures of their work using the iPad camera. This is probably the best thing to happen to a classroom since smart boards came out 10+ years ago. I prefer the user interface in GoodNotes to the other note taking apps that I have tried. It reminds me of an Apple product - it just works. I was having problems with stability after the iOS 11 update but the developers were very helpful if working with me to fix the issues, including me in a beta test to make sure my issues were addressed. I use this app every day in my classroom and could not imagine now having to teach without it.
Great Note-taking App
by BenjPhoto on 2018/04/04 23:07
When I first started using GoodNotes I had moved over from another app that I had hung onto simply for the fact that it automagically syncs with Evernote, my repository of everything.... my brain. If GoodNotes did that, it would be spectacularly awesome. Unfortunately, for now, it is merely AWESOME. The switch wasn’t without some trepidation. The differences in the zoom window took a bit to acclimate to, but now I prefer it. Occasionally I would find something “missing” only to find out later I just hadn’t discovered it yet. Maybe the things on my GoodNotes “wish list” are already there too, but tucked away somewhere. As it stands, I really am loving the app and use it every day for a number of things. More things, in fact, than the notes app I switched from. I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for an app that allows you handwritten and typed notes, drawings, etc. all on the same page.
Absolutely fantastic app!
by Jason Thomas Gross on 2018/07/06 02:24
I bought the app for note taking, but I’ve learned it’s so much more than that. Using this app with the Apple Pencil really kicks it up. I love being able to take notes and keep them so organized, draw sketches for work and rough layouts of whatever. Plus, being able to select whatever I’m working on, drag it around, resize it, etc., is just awesome. This app gets five stars either way, but there are a few things I’d suggest... 1. The ability to rotate a selected thing. For example, select some text and free rotate it. 2. A layering system. Like photoshop, be able to select a layer and write on it. Then fade the opacity of it or overlay other layers. I thought of some other things but in reality, I don’t want this app to get away from what it does best. This is note taking at its finest and my go-to for any meeting or planning. Keep up the great work.
Note to note takers: Crashes in the middle of note taking
by radioactivefreak on 2018/12/11 19:01
I use this a lot for my study guides in nursing and there are not many options for the kind of pen you want or colors. Another problem with this app is that it keeps crashing like every hour or every 2 hours. It’s really frustrating especially during the finals season because it doesn’t save what I’ve written. I write about a paragraph and there is no save button for me to automatically save or anything. So when it crashes I lose about a paragraph of information. It has been happening every time I use it for an hour or so. I have no idea what is wrong, but this needs to be fixed because it interrupts my productivity and efficiency. I do like how you can transfer your powerpoints on here and then rehollad them to drop box or google drive. But writing notes seems really difficult and I can imagine if this were used for class, I would have lost valuable information. So please fix this. I expect an app that I purchase to not have these sorts of glitches.
Amazingly versatile, indispensable app
by robra26 on 2018/04/21 02:35
I use this app daily, for taking notes in meetings and calls, jotting down ideas and keeping my to do lists organized to marking up docs received from others to helping my son with his math homework (if you haven’t tried this using the graph papers and auto shapes, it really works from geometry to modeling algebra answers). Combined with MS Word/PPT/Excel's ability in iOS to "send” pdf files using other apps, am basically able to review and mark up the usual kinds of files people send to me (doesn’t have to be received as a pdf). One thing I wish for is either tagging or starring items, so I can track important items/follow up items. It’s currently a small price to pay, but I need to regularly review my notes post meetings and then transcribe all follow-up and key items to my reminders app. Wish GoodNotes could remind me...
Great! A Few Suggestions
by Photo guy? on 2018/10/19 00:33
I love using this app. Compared to the others, I find it to be superior. However, I do have some suggestions that would dramatically help to make this miles ahead of the other note taking apps. First, allow for recordings to be made simultaneously with writing notes. Second, we have a lot of space on the top tool bar to allow for multiple pens that potentially could be different colors and sizes. Third, implementing a rule could be very handy. While there is a tool like this, it’s not perfect. Sometimes it would be handy to have a protractor or straight edge to help making curves, circle, or long straight lines. For a protractor, this could helpful to provide the ability to make lines at specific degrees. Other than that, this app is great and I highly recommend it. I’m a pre-med student in my last year of college.
Rediscovered App
by BeRightBack572111 on 2018/12/29 15:36
I use to have the first version on this app on my iPad about 6 years ago. I absolutely loved it for my note taking in college. I loved being able to import my own background. I loved saving paper, and not getting weighed down with all my notebooks when I went to graduate school. I was sad when they made you buy an updated version, and you couldn’t just upgrade for free, since you already had it. I eventually bought the new version, but I was sad that it lacked some of my favorite features. I decided this week to recheck the app. Apparently in the few years, since I last downloaded it, they reinstalled my favorite features. I’m especially fond of the magnifying glass tool to write in a larger space, and yet be able to see where you are writing on the entire document, with the auto feed feature.
College student approved
by Whitwhit366 on 2018/10/28 22:41
I only use my iPad for class. I watched a lot of YT videos trying to find which note taking app was best for me. I finally decided on good notes for its customization , and the way it was set up/ organized. I use GoodNotes for taking notes/ rewriting notes/ and as a workbook for practice problems. One thing that was really important for me was customization since most of the apps offer the same thing. Good notes has so many covers and paper templates, and a lot you can download from their website as well. I can practically use good-notes for anything at this point including use as a planner/ scratch paper/ legal pad etc. and has completely cut out my tons of planners, notebooks, and note pads [ which stack up when you’re in college ] and I love this app for that. I’m glad I chose good-notes, as its a perfect fit for me.
Need’s some improvements in the app. Nothing has changed for a long time.
by Andy192937383 on 2018/09/08 03:45
Had this app a long time through my journey in Med school. Often I find the app not able to open a book and this can take 30-45 minutes to fix itself. Pretty annoying when I’m studying and it crashes. Wish there was a faster fix for that. A perfect note taking application would maybe crash but never leave you unable to open your book. I also wish it had a graph tab built in to make lists or tables. A voice record, video record, or link posting ability would be nice. Other applications are fiddling with these abilities and graphs and link posting haws been available since the ice ages in other apps. I don’t know why it’s not a function in this app. It totally should be. The app has practically been the same since it came out. It’s time it makes some better changes. Other applications are soon going to be better. If they aren’t already.
ONE INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING THING
by AndreaLouiseLopez on 2018/07/18 01:36
I *would* give a full 5 stars if it weren’t for one incredibly aggravating bug — I set up goodnotes to use as a faux bullet journal. I have made PDF templates to import for my day to day pages. Within the first week of using good notes, after writing down tasks I need to do i would swipe to another page in the Journal to write something else, and when I come back to the tasks page ALL OF MY TASKS ARE DELETED. GONE. Some I have *no idea* if I will be able to remember or recall that task, thus running the risk of missing important things I need to do for work. I have a sneaking suspicion that this is because of trying to sync up goodnotes with my icloud account. These issues began when I tried to use the icloud sync feature so I could look at my notes on my phone. Once the issue began I decided to unsync with icloud and just back up to my google drive account. Still had the issue. I highly doubt that the issue is with my ipad as I had just bought the new ipad. Now i’m removing the backup feature that I HOPED would be helpful in preserving my notes in hopes that nothing would randomly delete! Im just so incredibly frustrated at this point and expected more from this app. Looks like I’ll just have to go back to a tried and true paper and pen system. Pen doesn't just *magically* erase itself on paper. If any moderators have any suggestions or solutions, PLEASE LET ME KNOW.
Excellent Application for Students
by MartinaVKiss on 2019/01/04 04:26
As a student it is very important for me to be able to take notes efficiently during class. Given how often we go through different binders and notebooks, wasting money year after year, I am very pleased with the price of this application. It is often compared to notability, which is also another great note taking app, however, this app wins by far. You have excellent tools to work with, customization is key within this app since we all know one size does not indeed fit all. You can tweak the settings in this app to adjust to your writing style which is always a great thing, further supporting the above statement. Creativity does not lie far from it, either. The option to create your own illustrations and diagrams is a major plus for efficient note taking. You won’t regret this purchase.
Great Note App Taking
by Ethelvina79 on 2019/01/16 04:31
I recently started my CPA and this app has been great so far. I really didn't want to take my book anywhere and have ton of papers anywhere either. I think is great that I can import PDF files into it and highlight all the important facts, along with adding pages to write my notes. I am even thinking in taking my iPad to work so i can write my work notes too as i do have a notebook at work. I was sad that GoodNotes 5 was just released as I paid for GoddNotes 4 a week ago. However, looking at The Good Notes blog, it seems a bundle will be released soon to upgrade for free to GoodNotes 5. I can't wait as i watched a review on NotesGood 5 and it seems the way on how we crate the Note books is better structured and more organized. I can't wait to get Good Notes 5. So Apple hurry up and approve the bundle, that way I won't have to pay. :)
Best out there
by TimKaras on 2018/08/12 19:44
I love this app! It works perfectly with my Apple Pencil. No lag or mistakes when writing. I’ve tried a couple note taking apps and they are not as responsive when writing as this app is. I’m a quadriplegic so I needed a way to be able to write as I can’t hold and write like usual. It has many features that are very useful for notes and has become my replacement to conventional paper and pen. Great job to the developers! I recommend this to anyone needing an app for notes or just random jots. I write everything in this app now and the one thing I noticed is that there is no password option to secure notes. Since I use GoodNotes for all my writings some things I write down can be sensitive and private. So to the developer, would there be a chance that password protection could be added sometime in the future?
Love this app but has several annoying problems
by isabelle012 on 2018/11/14 21:50
I really enjoy this app and use it on a daily basis! However, one of the most annoying things about this app is the fact that you can erase with your Apple Pencil AND your fingers. On the pen setting, you can only write when using your Apple Pencil (as well as other functions). I don’t understand why you can’t pan in and out of your notes while on the erasing function (I’ve accidentally erased my notes numerous amount of times - sometimes I have to go back and rewrite the parts I erased because I didn’t realize I did that until later). Another minor problem is the lack of notebook covers. I wish we could just have solid colors that you can customize. Finally, although you can select text, you can’t make it smaller which is a bummer. Overall great app though! Would really like to see the erasing thing fixed (which I want to say should be an easy fix).
Great app
by 57U on 2018/01/23 01:09
This is a great app _ almost perfect. Ink flow is the the best in the business, only Noteshelf is close. It is a pleasure to write and draw, BUT 1. I wish there were stacks of my notebooks I could see as opposed to categories. Once in the category, it is all good but I would love to see the categories as books. Noteshelf has the best organization in this regard. 2 And this is a huge one for me - please create some way to have at least 3-5 pens as presets. And it would be wonderful to have a floating preset toolbox, small with just 3-4-5 pens as preset. I use different colors, withs, highlighter and would love dotted lines. I would have the need to have these set up and I could just click and go. It would speed things up for me. I teach with this app and it would make such a difference. Other than that this app is pretty perfect for me.
One of the best note taking apps for stylus users
by Poplover90 on 2019/01/14 03:22
When I bought the IPad 2017, there were two things I bought immediately, a carbon copy of the Apple Pencil to use on my tablet and GoodNotes. I saw a video on how to write on the app and was hooked from the first usage of it. I am a media creator and illustrator, so I find the app useful for making quick notes like I would on a piece of paper. You can format the paper app to display “papers” to look like the old notepads you used in school. When you use the app and stylus in portrait mode, it gives you the same feeling you get when you use physical paper. I highly recommend it for anyone who likes to take notes with a pencil or do some doodling. Being able to change writing into text that can be imported into other apps is very helpful too.
I love this app!
by SmilingSuzyQ on 2018/11/03 10:40
I love this app for work and personal use. I have notebooks for every facet of my job, of which I have many, but I also have notebooks for personal appointments and phone calls. I work at a University and walking from building to building for meetings, paper can get soaked or ripped and this app just allows me to take my information with me and not worry about these things happening as well as letting me take many notebooks with me at once instead of just the one pertaining to that one meeting. I also love that you can buy pre-made notebooks and personal planners on some websites like Etsy and use those in this app. I am very happy with this app and have recommended it to many different people when they stated that they were looking for a different kind of solution. Thank you!
Fantastic app

As a consultant, I used to keep boatloads of miscellaneous notes in my backpack. I never threw anything out because I was always afraid of throwing out some piece of useful information. I’ve been able to get rid of all this paper by using GoodNotes. On top of that (and the primary reason for writing this review now), I had to reboot my iPad today after it was acting weird. The iPad got stuck in an endless boot cycle. I will most likely have to do a restore. I was concerned I lost all the notes I’ve taken since my last iTunes backup (> 1 month ago). But...I pulled up GoodNotes on my iPhone and was so relieved to find that all my notes are all in tact. Oh, and I have incredibly poor handwriting. The search feature proves to be incredibly useful and surprisingly accurate even with my handwriting.
Used once on iPhone. I’m sorry.
by Pool guy7777777 on 2018/04/27 23:37
Used on iPad. Worked great for what I did. I’m a biology/ biochem/business student so let me tell ya it works great with the 12.9 in iPad Pro. NoW, let me explain this app needs better ios x-ios coding transfer work to do. I can’t sinc anything that I can say “wow it’s exactly the same” , like it should be for example switching from vhs-cd. And I just was typing a super long paragraph on goodnotes on my phone which I never used and the text box dissapeared to the top of the page in some gray area and I couldn’t get it back. So I saved it. Now when I search the key words things appear but I can’t see it on the page. This is no translational error, this is simply just an iOS-x glitch that needs to be addressed. If you guys fix this over the months, I will come back and give you a five star review like I think you guys deserve. I also have found other faulty glitches and if you are interesting in working with my perspective please contact me.

Need to pay twice to get version 5.0
by Smart lily on 2019/06/26 22:17
I already purchased version 4.0 and love to use it. However, it asks to pay again to update to 5.0 Does that mean I need to pay every time later for upgrading to 6.0, 7.0, 8.0, and so on?
So awesome
by decadegirl on 2019/06/23 22:34
Great app Makes It’s so much easier using this app instead of a book to write my appointments in... I just love it!!!
Nicely done.

Yeah still have some things to improve on . But still.. nicely done.
Ads

Great app
by Arielle2009 on 2019/05/16 13:55
Love the app.

Also, going paperless is a good option.

by Breakin Wind on 2019/04/25 01:19
Love it

Thanks.

GoodNotes 4 superior to 5
by SEM84 on 2019/03/31 20:43
GoodNotes 4 is an easy to use, smooth, intuitive program. Performs as expected with few to no glitches. I recommend it to everyone. Please don’t legacy this app before fixing all the issues with GoodNotes 5.

Assume this is a problem with recent updates.

by PatVi27 on 2019/03/25 02:31
So far this is one of my favorite apps!

I am in love with digital planning with this app. It makes it so easy.

This app has been my first choice since day one!!! I'm not sure why the came out with an new version which I rarely use because it scares me!!!!!!!

Thank you!
Fantastic app
by bl.iphone on 2018/01/04 21:25
As a consultant, I used to keep boatloads of miscellaneous notes in my backpack.
