connecting two speaker
by Texas Fireballs on 2019/12/12 03:50
I have two xb31 speakers and they connect to each other using double mode I think it’s called which makes it a lot easier.

Good
Sound quality better with app but!!
by Micah30 on 2019/12/09 22:48
I have the SRS-XB21 Bluetooth speaker. The sound quality is great from the app. But once I subscribed to Apple Music, the app will not let me play music downloaded from the subscription unless I purchased the music before hand. In the app I have the ability to select the Apple Music app but it would be nice to us only one app.
Horrible App
by SIHLEAH on 2019/12/07 20:33
Does not work!
My speakers are great but will not connect to Alexa.
by I giveup on a nick name on 2019/12/06 04:19
I’m going to be honest, I don’t know who to blame here. The Sony app runs a very simple setup and says that you’re good to go, however, the Alexa and Alexa app do not even see the sound bar. Thus, I cannot connect, despite my going through every help webpage on Sony and the Alexa website. When I go to the Alexa application in the sound bar, it just tells me to use voice commands to activate. To which Alexa says she doesn’t know what I’m talking about.
You cannot pair two speakers
by Boggie1238 on 2019/12/04 21:01
You can’t even use YouTube inside their app . I’d expect this software would make it easier to pair two speakers on a phone and listen to what ever you want or even twitch or something that plays sounds.
May Cause Your Headphone Shutdown Automatically
by Lichhhhh on 2019/12/03 15:35
Got both xm3 and xm2. Both turnoff automatically as soon as I connect them via Bluetooth. Problem solved by uninstalling the app. What a buggy app
Still garbage. Wouldn’t have bought speakers if I knew
by Macbaine1 on 2019/11/26 23:09
Checking in almost a year after first purchase. App is still garbage. Basic functions continue to fail. No idea what all these monthly updates are for, literally nothing has gotten better. App still crashes every other time I try to connect to a device. Forget party chain. If you ever get it working, which is rare, leave the app and don’t return, or it will crash. If this app represents Sony, they have fallen a long, long way. I would never have bought these speakers if I knew this app was required. Their failure to address major problems in over a year shows they just don’t care.
Unreliable
by chaffinr05 on 2019/11/21 10:45
How is Sony willing to keep these horrible apps around for their products with working to improve and maintain them? It’s becoming a trend for them. Both with their cameras and their speakers. Stop outsourcing your stuff and get it together!
Your sound system is very mediocre
by Luismi75 on 2019/11/17 21:47
I paid over 1200 dollars for a soundbar, and two add on speakers at 300dls for the pair and its always a problem disconnecting speakers on the multi-room and so on. Pure garbage I wished I would’ve have bought the Sonos. Pathetic app
Sync issues
by Illeism on 2019/11/06 14:51
I have two xb-20 speakers and for the most part work as intended with the app - however - occasionally the speakers will lose their sync - usually if I turn them on and don’t play music within 2 to 3 minutes - then I have to remove them from Bluetooth , delete the app, reset the speakers to default and then add everything again - rarely, when trying to put them in a group again the app goes haywire and can’t figure out how to group the speakers so i have to remove them from Bluetooth etc...
Great radio. Absolutely terrible app.
by Offman/1981 on 2019/10/27 21:53
This app is so terrible to use. I just am not going to use the connecting of the speakers or this app. It takes so long to do one thing, mainly do to its loading. Then it cannot even probably connect to the one main speaker that has already been connected.
The worst app in the App Store
by CBNYSEA on 2019/10/24 13:10
I’ve never written a review before, but this app is so bad, I feel compelled to warn other would be buyers of Sony receivers to avoid this situation. I need this app for one primary function, which is to control my Sony receivers remotely, via my phone, primarily to stream music and it can’t even do that. This app can’t connect to either of my receivers via wifi and does so only sporadically via Bluetooth. I have dozens of connected devices in my home and this is literally the only one that doesn’t work. If wifi controlled music streaming is important to you, I would avoid this app and all Sony connected receivers at all costs.
App is horrible
by CW270 on 2019/10/15 13:22
Please, please fix this app. My speakers never stay synced. Makes me not want to buy from the manufacturer again.
Power level
by frankster222 on 2019/10/14 16:42
Just updated October and still 3 levels deep to see battery level. I will continue to give one star for every update until the battery level is indicated on the first screen. It doesn't need to be three screens deep. Come on!!! STILL lastest update fail Why is the power level burried three levels in instead of being on the first screen. STUPID STUPID STUPID. Come on!!!
Don’t know what this app for...
by WilliaXm on 2019/10/12 14:43
So what will this app for?
Worthless
by jas45044 on 2019/10/09 01:23
Will not recognize two Sony speakers, the gtk-xb7 and gtk-xb72. Frankly can’t get anything with these speakers to work together.
Loses speaker
by DontLikeIt555 on 2019/09/24 00:57
Installed yesterday and worked good to control volume via iPhone when plugged into TV via mini stereo line. Today shows 2 of same speaker one needs setup the other does not. Both are non responsive. Both say can’t connect even though it’s connected and can’t delete either to redo setup. Why has this issue not been fixed? When an app gets 2 stars the company should fix It asap or the people will buy elsewhere next time. Am I correct?
It’s honestly great
by OkayDre on 2019/09/20 08:56
i don’t know what everyone else is saying but this is a good app, it’s simple and you can play spotify from it or any music on your phone! you can control the light and music quality as well. it’s great in my opinion!
Always an issue
by Funnymelon on 2019/09/19 23:10
When the app works and the speakers connect you have a great sound quality. Unfortunately the connection isn’t always going to work and there aren’t a lot of options for troubleshooting connection issues that are available on the internet.
Can we get Tidal?
by rock2001 on 2019/09/14 23:24
App shows integration for many apps; HBo, Hulu, Amazon, Qobuz, but not tidal. Add MQA support via Tidal
Terrible for STR-DN1080
by cayman-7 on 2019/09/12 04:18
Good luck connecting to your receiver. Extremely unreliable for such a powerful receiver. Its a shame and the reason why i may just go back to Pioneer or Yamaha. This app will not connect most of the time and you have to wait several minutes for it to detect your Sony receiver. Ive seen better apps built by 12-13 year old kids. Sony obviously put little to no effort on this app.
August 31 update broke app
by Ninobrown1022 on 2019/09/07 18:38

by XmLg Beyond on 2019/09/02 15:22
Won’t even open. The app is unstable, slow and glitchy.
Absolute junk
by Hesakram on 2019/09/01 20:01
This is the worst app I have ever used. I bought a new SRS-XB41 and I can’t use its cool functions because this app says I’m not connected to the device even though I am.
Nice speaker!.....App is trash.
by Joynerwhat on 2019/08/31 02:18
Why does it show multiple speakers, begin random delays from the Spotify connect?..ah..whatever. You get it...just glitchy nonsense all the time. Not user friendly..how did this pass quality tests? I mean...this is THE REAL Sony company, right?
No good
by slashignore4 on 2019/08/28 21:53
Takes forever for the app to recognize my speakers. When it first try’s to connect it skips and takes about 5 minutes to sync. Then if I minimize and bring app back up it loses the connection. Mind you I never closed the app. Not sure why Sony has a crappy app. Always thought Sony was top of the line...
Does the job 👍🏻
by plusibo on 2019/08/25 13:56
I'm not usually the type to come type these out, but I see a lot of negative and overly critical reviews for this app. Yes, it "forgets" what you're doing if you put it in the background. However, this doesn't impede fluid operation of the speaker. Playback is never interrupted, and the app always comes back when you need it. It's not unusable in any way, people are just making mountains out of molehills.
Two speaker but no Stereo!!
by Tatocharrua on 2019/08/24 18:57
Vamos Sony!!!, are you kidding!! I bought two xb30 in order to enjoy a true stereo audio system but you can only control the volume of the main speaker!! I understand some would like to have 2/3 speakers on different rooms with different volume but to be sincerely most will want a stereo experience, in any case do contemplate both possibilities and allow user to pump volume individually or on pair. Please developers do attend this concern since like it is today (8/2019) it is useless.
Annoying
by Cesar Magana on 2019/08/20 22:41
It’s annoying how everytime I leave the app but it’s open in the background and when I go back to the app, it has to reload or reconnect to my Sony soundbar which is extremely annoying!!!! I mean the Bluetooth is constantly connected. Please fix
Loses sync
by Mikeswif11 on 2019/08/18 20:13
Don’t waste your time with this app. We have had the speakers for some time and love them. Decided to give the app a try...What we found is that if it works it’s awesome. Only tested it yesterday and it lost synchronization more than it was connected. Not cool
It’s hit or miss
by lanafan43ver on 2019/08/18 19:38
Sometimes the app works and opens up the menu where you can select the illumination settings and change other settings on the device even turning it off remotely!! But other times it says it can’t connect to the speaker it’s annoying just wish it was smoother. I have to restart my iPhone 8 just to reset the app so I can change the settings again and I’m not restarting my iPhone every hour for an app.
Terrible
by padavis737 on 2019/08/14 01:53
Yep, like everyone else. Never stays connected. I downloaded this app for 10 minutes. Absolute garbage. Don’t waste your time.
Awesome app!
by someone thats someone on 2019/08/07 23:44
Many people that have left a comment on this app end up giving it 2 stars or 1, they always complain of how it stops music videos or just the music and unpairs the speakers. This app has always worked well for me and to my SRS-XB41. Everything works as it should. The other people should just go and get an Ihome, it works splendidly. Ihome has the same app... only for Ihome speakers. Both are goo apps and speakers company.
Extremely Disappointed - FIX THE APP
by mojoeee42 on 2019/08/04 23:48
Extremely disappointed with this app. I just purchased 3 of the SRS-XB41 speakers and they’re what you would expect from Sony, however the app makes it really impossible to link these speakers together. Debating returning these speakers and getting another brand solely because of how poorly the app functions.
No more Equalizer!
by Rockon261 on 2019/08/04 12:18
In the latest version they took out the equalizer! Why?! That really enhanced the quality of the sound! Please bring it back!
XRS-XB32
by 1BAMFKR on 2019/08/04 01:03
Just got it today and got it setup pretty easily since it’s somewhat a standard Bluetooth sync. App works well so far and is pretty easy to operate and navigate.
NO longer support my Device
by TrappedPat on 2019/08/03 12:15
Why would you update the app exclude some devices. To make matters worst, there's no alternate to support the those older devices. You guys ever heard of backward compatibility? Smh 😡
The app is extremely broken
by The only g aret on 2019/07/31 05:44
I bought a bass boosted speaker. The speaker itself is probably the best I’ve bought but the music center seems to be the controller for it. I have my speaker connected to my phone and I’m playing music but the app thinks I’m not connected and refuses to let me control it. I’m currently laying in my bed while my speaker is on its full fledge race lighting mode. This isn’t the first time I’ve had to do this and I might return the speaker. I’ll probably have another night without and another day with it’s battery being wasted on lights instead of used on music. I hope this app will be fixed soon
App is Horrendous
by jaygutz2020 on 2019/07/29 02:46
I have the same issues as all of the previous reviews. Bad enough that the speakers don't sync with Google chromecast. But the "functionality" of the app is abysmal. I'm very disappointed with Sony's lack of investment in app development. Great hardware but pathetic software. They've lost this customer. What's the point of buying wireless speakers if they are going to have so many technical difficulties?
This app major issues
by nfuygtroy on 2019/07/28 21:43

Non functioning or sporadic app
by racquetball11 on 2019/07/27 21:53
This app disconnects from the Bluetooth multiple times. Sometimes it will lose connection while the music is playing. To reconnect, delete app, turn off Bluetooth, plug in speaker, turn everything on at the same time and hope that it works.
Failed to add brand new XB501G
by sonyfustration on 2019/07/25 22:35
This app failed to recognize a $250 brand new Sony speaker: The SRS-XB501G wireless speaker needs this app to setup WiFi before it will enable its Bluetooth capability. The app wouldn’t recognize the speaker when powered on, and to add a speaker manually the app requires that the speaker has Bluetooth enabled- this is a Catch-22 situation: The speaker needs the app to setup WiFi before it will broadcast Bluetooth, and the app won’t recognize the speaker until Bluetooth is enabled! Get it together SONY!!!
From BAD to WORSE!
by AccordionFreak on 2019/07/24 09:51
This app kind of worked. After last update it went downhill quickly. Now it wont recognize my device. If I could give it s 0 star rating I would.
Horrible horrible horrible no reason for this
by v7wGGhRnsL on 2019/07/20 18:08
This app is bull 😂 the speaker literally won’t turn up and when it does, it’s for half a second before it automatically turns back all the way down? Why do I even need the app why can’t I just use the speaker like a normal speaker 😒?
It won’t connect?
by skull trooper give away on 2019/07/13 19:04
I have bought one of your google home Sony smart speaker and I have tried both manually setting it up and automatically setting up. I was hoping that you could help understand why it won’t connect?
Trash
by SuperKcross on 2019/07/13 03:41
I bought the SRS XB-32 speaker. The speaker itself is great but this app is so bad that I actually thought of returning the speaker. You need the app to adjust to eq and the lights. The app often can’t connect to the speaker and I’ve had to restart multiple times before it can connect. The app is slow and clunky. It’s a shame too because when it does work, I enjoy being able to control the speaker via my phone when it is connected to my computer. After many tries I’ve finally adjusted the eq and lights to how I want it. Hopefully I won’t have to use this app ever again.
I want to use EXPLETIVES to describe my experience..
by Terrible0ne on 2019/07/12 22:49
But I won’t.. this app is PART of the reason I am DONE with Sony. It’s intrusive, annoying and USELESS. I don’t even know what it does with my car stereo. All I know is I disabled ALL NOTIFICATIONS with this app, yet every time I start my truck the notification pops up. Every time. I have 2 phones and this happens on both. I’m done. I’m deleting the app and will likely never buy another Sony product.
Stops videos from playing
by Fiel on 2019/07/09 02:38

Last Update
by mc2019v5.13 on 2019/07/07 02:29
What happened with the last update? I cannot control Zone 2 settings anymore. No volume or input setting control other then the Main Zone. Also WiFi connectivity is no longer - just Bluetooth now.

Boo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The app and the speakers are definitely 2 different things
by EricaJanine on 2019/07/05 20:25
A lot of these reviews are the same—speakers are great but the app is not. I agree. I have xb31 and xb32s—using party chain became a challenge because of the chain got broken, I had to disconnect all the speakers, forget them, then repair—even if the party chain worked with the same speakers. Once I got it fully working, I kept having to relevel the volumes on the speakers after a while—the leveling out didn’t work at all. Luckily I only had 4 to maintain during a party and not more or it could have caused the music to fail altogether. The speakers are phenomenal. The app is almost a dealbreaker because it makes them seem glitchy. These speakers have been marketed with this feature and it just doesn’t work well enough to be reliable. I hope that Sony fixes this soon—it’s enough to cause me to question the brand.
The app is unsafe
by Udi Inc on 2019/06/29 01:39
The pop up the comes up In my iPhone every time I start my car is a unsafe unwelcome distraction. I have disable it in notifications and yet it still comes up every time. As you can tell it’s annoying I have tried to disable it to no avail. Why not just allow it to open in the background when connected it doesn’t need permission and a human response every time. The app does help with setting up my radio settings but other wise I wouldn’t use it.
Just not worth my time
by Valyant77 on 2019/06/25 02:26
Won’t stay connected to speakers. Just garbage
App does not work
by Kinectic Groove on 2019/06/16 13:57
When the app works it’s great. Problem is it’s only worked one time for me. Since an update app will not connect to speaker. I’ve tried removing the speaker and re-adding but app won’t progress beyond asking you to connect speaker which I’ve done. Tried automatic and manual. Nada. Since I can’t control speaker the app is pretty much useless. Whatever the developers have done really screwed up what was a pretty useful and fun app.
Annoying
by Jayvaun on 2019/06/15 14:12
The app only connects to my speaker half the time. Even when I’m connected to the Bluetooth it says I still need to connect it and there’s nothing I can do about it until the app fixes itself because I’m already connected to Bluetooth, very annoying will not be buying a speaker from you guys again. This speaker was like $200 and I can’t even change the sound setting half the time.
Not at all what I expected from Sony
by cris audiophile on 2019/06/14 15:58
I’m running this application on the iPhone XS MAX, so I know it’s not the phone but the application that keeps on having problems. You have to re-sync and do the Bluetooth process constantly just to be able to keep using the sounds setting and other features that the app has to offer. I bought and SB41 speaker and while the speaker is of great quality I can’t process why the app is so unreliable. For such a known company it should at least be able to serve the most basic functions. Come on Sony just invest in this at least a fraction of what you’re now investing in marketing!
what
by bigmomma97 on 2019/06/10 16:14
wouldn’t even let me “pair” my phone through the app. bluetooth compatibility works perfect but the app itself won’t recognize my device. pointless. downloaded to see what a disgrace Sony has done here now it will live forever in my cloud app graveyard... 😭
Love it
by Acepuppy3 on 2019/06/09 17:57
I wish I could change to more colors, or to specific colors. I love this app and this speaker. They should add a color program to yellow and pink and call it lemonade.
Worst app ever
by FEMIIO on 2019/06/08 16:18
Sony has to get better app developers. This is the third time I’ve tried to set up my Sony SRS ZR5 rear wireless speakers and the set up fails every single time. I’m done with Sony and will be moving on to Sonos.
Worst app. Doesn’t load the AV receiver at all
by Optimus Q Prime on 2019/06/08 11:51
Terrible app from a reputed company like Sony. The AV receiver doesn’t launch at all when we open the app. Both phones and receiver in the same WiFi.
Run away!
by Allycat7551 on 2019/06/06 12:17
I’ve been able to get the speakers to painter and a part in chain mode as they said you can do. I bought an XB 20 and an XB 21 they will not party chain together one shuts off the other one turns on then the other one shuts off and the other one turns on it constantly disconnects from one and reconnect to the other but never plays the two together I have read the instructions several times I have looked online to try and find a way to make them work together as they are described because even on Sony‘s website it says that they are fully compatible together and even gives instructions of how to connect an XP 21 to another XP 21 and I was not even able to do that do not buy the Sony speakers and do not get this app, unless you only buy one speaker in which case one speaker works fine all by itself.
Always have to resync
by EP146 on 2019/06/04 15:45
My phone connects to the speaker fine without the app, but if I need to use the app I always get a notification saying my speaker needs setup and it shows 2-3 of the same “device” listed. Love the speaker, hate the app.
Do not buy a Sony or download this app
by chunkymain on 2019/06/03 01:25
Thought I upgraded from a dual zone Yamaha receiver. Nope, not even close. This app is horrible. It never connects and when it does it drops out every 2 minutes. If it doesn’t get better I’m going back to Yamaha, which has a flawless app.
Speaker sounds ok but app is trash.
by Hi nakug on 2019/05/29 13:52
Sony should really be ashamed of themselves for releasing this app and software. They sell this speaker with the illusion of pairing up to 100 speakers. How about we focus of connecting two reliably. The speakers sound good but don't waste your money if you want easy reliable connections and software. Sad really because this combo could have been a big hit.
Good riddance. Dropped support for receiver
by Beantown-G on 2019/05/27 13:22
In today’s market, customer experience *is* the brand, even more than features or price. Sony used to know that. I bought the STR-DN1050 because I could control it with my phone. After a quick “Update all” on iPhone apps and SongPal was useless. I have a degree in computer science and know it’s not rocket science to support multiple interfaces for backward compatibility, *especially* for an army of loyal customers. Sony, you think this is going to push us to purchase new receivers? LOL. Your influence in consumer electronics is shrinking and this is just another example of the acceleration downward. I’m exhausted being screwed by companies selling products that don’t work as marketed - or sneaky/aggressive product support decisions. Good riddance.
Speakers ok, but app barely works... sometimes
by sabai-marie on 2019/05/26 07:44
Bought two speakers to be able to group them together. Sony botched it though, the app doesn’t remember devices and struggles to even establish a group briefly, disconnecting once the screen locks. Wasted $250 on an XBS31 plus a 21. Don’t know how anybody could give Sony 5 stars for this app; I assume they are paid reviews.
Miserable
by Pee Kay on 2019/05/25 23:30
Bought a second XBS speaker to be able to group the speakers, hoping to end up with a travel-sonos type of solution. The app is miserable, and hugely disappointing. The app should only be used for managing the chain, and not managing audio. Once chained, the output is extremely unreliable. Oh, and the app is completely redundant in the “playing music” realm, so no idea why Sony thought it was something they needed to include. Quite disappointed, don’t know why i ever trusted Sony again.
Amazing app

Need to add Musi app to list of music apps thanks a bunch 🙏🔥
Terrible app
by some rando college kiddo on 2019/05/21 22:16
You’d think spending $800 on speakers would get you software that’ll easily be able to simply sync up two Bluetooth speakers. This app can’t even handle connecting more than one speaker at a time before it starts glitching. I ended up just connecting the two speakers manually through a cable, I’m very happy with them. Just disappointed that an app this bad even exists for them.
Awesome app!
by mark london 44 on 2019/05/20 16:55
I just bought my Sony GTK-XB7 and this app allows me to have full control of my sound system. I can change the lights on it and much more.
Getting better
by manimalthefarmer on 2019/05/19 22:38
I have an STR-DN106 A/V receiver that I bought a number of years ago and didn't even know there was an app I could use until a little over a year ago. At first the app was useless, would consistently drop connection when it would connect which was only about 1/4 of the time. I started using it recently again and it has been a lot better. The receiver controls sound in multiple rooms and sits in a cabinet so it’s nice to have such easy access to the controls. I would have been much more frustrated if the app was required for the options. It’s come a long way but there’s still room for improvement. This app has the potential to be a great value added to Sony products but only if they’re able to improve its quality.
App review
by XxDannehxX on 2019/05/18 07:26
It’s well worth buying Sony Speaker and head/earphones. The instructions on how to pair it with the app is a bit vague.
Not a bad app if you know how to get around it
by audiogeeeek on 2019/05/16 02:43
I feel that most of the bad reviews are written by those that are not to technology educated. It’s not a very hard app to get around in...you are able to change the display, audio settings, music apps, and much more the from the app itself. Very easy way to fine tune the audio in my opinion plus a great way to customize its display which honestly is all you need.
Getting ready to try this new speaker out
by Goddess of Scorpions on 2019/05/15 22:41
I have been reading the reviews and hope al the bugs are out of the app. Finally. I wish I had a clue or someone techie that could show me the ropes or just tell me which way to buy the best one. I would love for it to work out, however being an ole lady school teacher I will just wing it and practice trial and error... UGH!
App doesn’t work

The app is so frustrating I just got the new Sony MEXbt100 and the radio is amazing but it has a lot of extra features on the app itself and it might work 1/4 of the time. The Bluetooth never stays connected to the radio itself inside the app and I can’t ever use the app to control my radio like I’m supposed to. App needs to be fixed ASAP.
Sony LF-S50G not connecting
by Rajeshghotekar on 2019/05/11 02:50
I have both Sony LF-S50G and SRS-XB20 but not able to connect them. The app do not detect the Sony smart speaker LF-S50G.

Shocked...atrocious software. Great speaker
by chraosracing on 2019/04/19 21:56
As other reviews have reflected, the software REQUIRED to really use this speaker to its max is absolute garbage. Address this Sony. Even an acknowledgement & statement that it is being looked into would be better than now. Smh
Not working
by fundi steven on 2019/04/17 06:44
Hello developers I downloaded this app for my iPhone 5s. I hoped it might work better but doesn’t works anymore. I love it. And love Sony compony. I disappointed with apps. Please fix this issue
Nice App. Suggestion....
by JerseyB1G Rutgers on 2019/04/14 02:42
Nice App. Would love for their to be more solid colors options. For example, during “Chill” illumination their is a dope red color against the black body of the speaker. Unfortunately there is currently no way to keep the color on “Red” at all times.

Sony speaker app
by annasll on 2019/04/09 21:51
The speaker is a ten but this app is just horrible. I think Sony should at least update it so that it works better since it’s a little confusing.
Buggy app constant “Setup Needed”
by samrio on 2019/04/05 20:29
The app is really really buggy. Sometimes it immediately recognizes the speaker and allows you to change the settings. Most times, you’ll see the speaker show up two or three times saying that it needs setup, then fails to do anything. Wireless party grouping doesn’t work as a result. So far, I’ve only been able to group speakers together once, out of 20 tries so far.
Awful
by CameronGarriepy on 2019/04/01 16:11
Would be 0 stars if I could. Support for our receiver was ended a couple years ago, so we can never update the app or it won’t work with our model. Since the app-related functionality was part of why we chose this Sony receiver, that sucked. Even before that, the app won’t play nicely with my iOS Music app. It loops one song no matter what playback settings are selected, and will not access most of our music files no matter what I do. In short, the app is awful.
More bugs than a log
by Sheffinator on 2019/03/30 01:17
Such a pity that this app—and therefore features like party chain—are unreliable and frustrating. The speakers are cool if you can get them to sync but you can’t do it through the app with any reliability. I’m returning the speakers ASAP.
Works as if devs never used the app
by cpc1002 on 2019/03/29 02:47
For use with GTK-XB7 I can’t select every color available for the lighting. The color setting needs to be saved before updated which is annoying I wish it just changed on selection. Neither app nor speaker saves settings. Needs serious work.
The worse

What the heck Sony I paid 215$ for head phone that have a delay in sound so video don’t match sound the battery doesn’t charge fully sometimes the worse head phones I have disgusting piece of garbage
Device name
by ronz63 on 2019/03/26 07:48
You can’t even rename your device like other AirPods and Bluetooth headphones. I don’t like the MDX15858WX names I hope there will be a update for that.
Still a lot to like here.
by Moisorto on 2019/03/26 06:28
Not gonna win app of the year but still has a lot of cool stuff to offer that help make their speakers that much more enjoyable
Trash
by dCkO on 2019/03/26 01:40
This app blows. Every time I get in the car, I have to take my phone out and wait for this app to prompt that it’s OK to use. Every. Single. Time. There is no option to just accept the already accepted and paired Bluetooth device.
The most annoying app I’ve ever used.
by ThisIsAnUnusedNickNameIHope on 2019/03/25 23:58
This App is so bad that I’m considering returning both of my Sony GTK-XB60 speakers because of it. It somewhat works if you have only one speaker, but it will drive you absolutely mad when trying to group for stereo use. EVERY time you leave the premises and Bluetooth disconnects, the speakers don’t reconnect as a stereo group or even remember their previous settings. The speakers revert back to an annoying default of Rave mode lighting, which will send you into a 1970s disco epileptic seizure. Then when you go in, try to reconnect, the regroup fails 9 times out of 10 times after taking 10 minutes of hour glass wait times to get to the appropriate screen. If anyone should write a functional app for these speakers please let me know. I will gladly buy it!!
Terrible
by Montana_skyline on 2019/03/25 23:12
This application is the worst! It does not manage the speakers well at all! Most of the time it does not connect up with Bluetooth then does not group the speakers. Multiple rounds of trying this and that. It does not work!!!! Volume is off. Just bad! Wish I had not bought Sony speakers! Lots of other options.
Really Sony??
by SerratedGrin on 2019/03/21 04:51
You can afford to hire anyone on the planet to code a working app for you. Whoever developed this app should be embarrassed. The speaker I purchased is fantastic, the app should be, as well.
Horribly complicated UNPREDICTABLE
by Transverter on 2019/03/18 13:59
Horribly complicated and terribly unpredictable. Grouping two speakers worked once - CANNOT GET IT TO WORK AGAIN! Wow, what a waste of time.
Please fix
by JackiemoonOG on 2019/03/16 03:35
Please make the connection process simpler. Most of us have to spend 20 minutes trying to connect two speakers. For me you have one speaker connected then turn on the next speaker. When you do that the app and phone will connect to the second speaker which now becomes the host and the speaker you need to click add speaker. Very confusing and frustrating!!!
Just annoying...
by Thehomiefromtheokc on 2019/03/04 20:31
I just bought the srs xb31 for $150, I love the speaker but you must have the app running and Bluetoothed in order to use any extra features.... ok that’s ok if it actually would work 1/4 if the time. It’s always losing its sync and goes to default. There’s a party mode where you can bang on the speaker to play drums and stuff and I love it! Gives you something to tap while listening to music but half 75% of the time the app doesn’t recognize the device even when I’m still playing music, so I have to close the app, turn bt off and on, reconnect because it doesn’t try to automatically, then go into the app crossing my fingers, and half the time it shows 3 extra speakers saying “need to be setup” but still doesn’t connect to mine.... so repeat. Finally have it working and your settings ready to go!? Well have fun when you lock your phone and go back into the app because it’s unsynced again... and just a helpful tip, don’t lock your phone while in the app, eventually you’ll have to restart your phone to even get it to work because it bugs out.... the quality of the speaker is what I expected with Sony but the app really ruins their reputation with me if I see “extra features in app”. Recommend the speaker if you just want good sound and bass, but don’t recommend it if you was wanting to use the extra features of the speaker and if that’s you deciding factor between $150 and another good speaker with as good quality for $60...
Astonished
by jclary6 on 2019/01/17 06:28
This app is ridiculously broken, you'd think that with a company like Sony they'd be able to make a decent functioning app for their products that cost in the triple digits. I Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they had some college student design this app. How many updates has this app had? Yet how does it still not work? And why is the interface so poor? Sony, you are on the NYSE. You're one of tech's giants, yet somehow in 2019 you can't manage a simple app. I'd leave zero stars if I could. please fix the bugs and redo the entire interface. nobody that has a phone capable of installing apps needs to access their library or streaming platforms via the app--please remove this the entire aspect is pointless. if somebody is going to download your app, it's to customize the settings, not to play music on apps that they ALREADY have installed. This app doesn't have to do much. Just fix the issue where the settings you select won't stay permanent! They only work when the app is open or recently used. Like I said, there are issues present in this app that it's like they assigned this to an intern. Sorry to the intern that made this app, but I'd leave zero stars if I could. 5/5 stars for the product though.
Dj effects poor
by I only review when needed. on 2018/11/30 01:55
Just got the Sony GTX-XB7 and it’s amazing. However app is very poorly made. Dj effects only allow one effect to be used at a time (flanger, isolates, wah). Also those are the only 3 options. On Sony’s website the picture of the dj effects is different than on my iPhone. It seems on there website you can have multiple effects in one menu and can use them all. Other than these effects there is no reason for the app besides connecting your speaker to your phone, which u can do anyways in Bluetooth settings. App is in great need for an update to make customers happy with available options that are on there website but not on the app.
The app is atrociously bad, almost ruined a party
by ilikeverizonbut on 2018/12/09 19:27
My new Sony SRS-XB21 Extra Bass wireless speakers are fantastic. Sony knows great sound better than anyone. This app that controls them however, is atrociously bad. Bought 3 of these speakers specifically for a party I hosted and this app alone almost ruined the whole night. Extremely clumsy and complicated to add other identical sony wireless speakers to it, called a “party chain” which takes at least ten minutes, and multiple dead ends through the app. Once they’re connected, all is good. But then try doing the same thing hours later, with the exact same speakers and the exact same app and you have to go through the whole process again, from scratch, which is insane. Also the app won’t let you “rename” the speakers (e.g. “living room,” “kitchen” “dining room”, etc), so if you buy 3 or 4 wireless speakers and they’re the same color, they’re all labeled “SRS-XB21” in your phone so you have no idea which is in what room. Also you can’t control volume of individual speakers through the app (like Sonos), you have to manually control the volume on individual speakers. Had to uninstall and reinstall the app it each time I had to set them up (3 total times) which was the only fix that worked. SRS-XB21 Extra Bass speakers themselves: 5 stars Sony Music Center App: Zero stars
Run away!
by Allycat7551 on 2019/06/06 12:17
I’ve been able to get the speakers to painter and a part in chain mode as they said you can do.
Literally out here
by SithlordsoupOfYoutube on 2018/07/30 07:13
Recently purchased XB21. Amazing speaker, especially in live mode. I don’t know how it manages to throw sound behind you but it does. As for the app, I feel like it was halfway developed or isn’t syncd up to the latest demands of the newest phone OS updates. The steps are clear and concise for setting up but won’t let you continue on to the next step until the current process is done..which is weird because you can’t even finish step 2. After trying a few setups it finally budged and paired with the phone.

Please enable access to “Display” button data for ST5000
by Danny_Bob on 2018/07/06 18:02
It would be great if this app would show the “Display” button info (LPCM, number of audio channels, kHz, etc.) for the ST5000. When viewing content in 4K with Enhanced format HDMI, the Display and Options buttons don’t work because the soundbar is unable to overlay the on screen display while in that mode. Getting access to that information in this app would be a great workaround. I currently use this app to adjust the a/v sync settings while in Enhanced format HDMI because that setting is not accessible from the soundbar itself unless I switch back to Standard format HDMI.
Decent enough except...
by Redrexx on 2018/01/12 23:44
I've used this app for a while now and so far, I haven't had much issues with it. Tho for a short while, the Bluetooth kept disconnecting. They've seem to work out that kink. I like how I'm able to control everything. If there's anything left to add, is that there should be volume control in every page. It's a bit annoying having to back out all the way to adjust volume after making speak level changes. I know there's a shortcut button to home page a more accesible volume would be nice.
I can help with the privacy issue.
by SnowMyst630 on 2018/07/24 16:07
I had the same problem at first with not being able to check mark the privacy button. But since I have had allot of Sony products and software, I knew that they expect you to read the entire privacy policy in total. Even after I read it in total, I still had to give it several more tries before it worked. They must have a timer on it. I hope this helps everyone to get the app up and running. Thanks
Sync issues
by Illeism on 2019/11/06 14:51
I have two xb-20 speakers and for the most part work as intended with the app - however - occasionally the speakers will lose their sync - usually if I turn them on and don’t play music within 2 to 3 minutes - then I have to remove them from Bluetooth , delete the app, reset the speakers to default and then add everything again - rarely, when trying to put them in a group again the app goes haywire and can’t figure out how to group the speakers so i have to remove them from Bluetooth etc...
Works nice
by Adrian2003 on 2018/03/29 03:24
Using app with an srs-xb30. It's works great. Lights and strobe can be easily adjusted. Also like that the equalizer can be adjusted with the app because the speaker had the bass just a bit too high, but adjusting with the app made the sound even better. Would give a 5 star review but I don't like having to pair everytime I'm trying to use the speaker. It would be nice if they put a battery display on the app so I don't have to push the button on the speaker to check the remaining battery charge.
Great Speaker AWFUL App
by dmp356 on 2018/12/24 21:27
This is my first ever app review...that’s how frustrating this app is. This app seems like it’s a “use once and trash” app. It only works the first time I open it. If I open it a second time it seems to lose connection with the app, even though the speaker itself is still connected. I subsequently have to delete and then download the app again. It’s especially frustrating because in order to adjust some of the features on the speaker (ex. Lights) I have to delete and download the app constantly. It essentially makes those features useless due to the impracticality of trying to use them. Strongly considering returning the speaker.
Can’t check the privacy policy box to even use the app!
by Truckmanwithhearingaid on 2018/06/26 01:37
IPhone X cannot get past the privacy policy. Read it, re read it, read it again. Still can’t check the little box to allow me into the app. I’m a private person so I get the need for a privacy policy. I have privacy policy for using the restroom thought it isn’t written so I don’t have a check box, but if I did have a written policy, my check box WOULD WORK! But the door would still be locked to I guess this analogy doesn’t really fit this situation. All I’m saying is that rather than sitting here writing a crappy review (get it?) I COULD be using my SONY app. Please fix this Sh!t.
Keeps crashing
by Isamashii on 2019/03/15 18:39
I just bought the GTX-XB5 Bluetooth speaker and you have to use this app to take advantage of all the features but when you do the app keeps crashing I can not even make it through an entire song. I am using an IPhone 6 and also an IPad mini 4 both devices have the same issues. Luckily you can still use iTunes but unfortunately you can not utilize all the features. I am optimistic that they will fix this problem in the future
Some decent instructions would help
by Bonzeye57 on 2018/12/29 00:38
Great speakers. App is isn’t too bad once you figure it out. Instructions are worthless. All I wanted was to have two SRS-XB21’s play stereo. After a couple days of frustration I figured out you had to press the ADD buttons in the back of both speakers where the power plugs in. Then the magic Speaker Add option appeared in Music Center and I was able to edit the group to play stereo. Boom. Works great.

An app that tells you how to use Bluetooth
by supergirl2000 on 2018/05/31 02:15
I know how to Bluetooth connect to devices. My soundbar linked for years then suddenly stopped working. My phone Bluetooth list claims it’s not turned on or within range. The soundbar is both on in range and set to Bluetooth as it was for years. I’ve tried reinstalling, updating, rebooting. Nothing fixes it. I’m so annoyed at this super lame app for not addressing such issues or aid in troubleshooting. Devices that don’t sync suddenly wreak of cash grab by either Sony or Apple. Like I should go buy a new soundbar or new phone when both are still totally fine.
Good for what I need it to do!
by mji71 on 2018/06/20 13:20
I have no functional issues with this app. It has met my expectations. However, I would like the ability to choose LED colors of my liking. I prefer the solid LED (what Sony has labeled as Calm) vs. flashing LED selections. For example, I would prefer to illuminate a solid dark blue, but the nearest would be Cyan (too bright). Please Sony give us more options with LED colors!!!
The APP is horrible
by WJCaruso on 2019/01/15 00:03
I have an STR-DN1080. The app worked sparingly at first but enough to be a great upgrade from our previous receiver. However, since the last update, it crashes regularly and will not allow me to control zone 2 from the app. I am actually shocked at the poor quality given the Sony’s brand reputation. The receiver is good but without ability to control it from the app, it really is sub par compared to other similarly priced (lesser known brands). I would not buy this receiver again or any other Sony product that relies on this app unless it is fixed.
Having app issues
by KayDee109 on 2018/07/16 23:28
I have a Sony X90 speaker, and it works well! As soon as I connect to the speaker it tells me to get the app! Cool. I like that I can control the lights and all but I can get the app to load all the songs I have!!! I have Apple Music so there’s no need to buy every album anymore. But I can get the songs to work through the app. It does not bother me but when you download the app it says the music will be play better through the app, but mostly every song says it can’t be played. 🤷🏾‍♂️ no use to have the app if it’s going to be little this.
Good music player
by Thichbanla on 2018/11/05 09:14
The app works well as a stand alone music player. I often listen to tracks not listed on iTunes/Spotify, and the grouping and searching for those tracks were very messy and insufficient in stock music app. The grouping of songs and albums in this app is far more better than that in the stock music app.
Helpful app
by Bluetooth speaker rater on 2019/01/03 01:08
I got this app a month ago and so far I have had no problems. The app lets you easily control the ENTIRE speaker from your hand. It gives many options on lighting, party mode and control of the bass. This app is very easy to control and connect the speakers. I would recommend downloading this app when you get a Bluetooth speaker.
Terms and agreements
by Criminalminds17 on 2018/10/03 04:25
Won’t allow me to accept the terms and conditions to keep using the app. The actual button that you press doesn’t check and you can’t move forward to using the app. Even when clicking a prompt to continue into another screen for more help with terms and agreements or whatever, it just changes to what I assume is the same screen, but wouldn’t know because it’s in a foreign language, and you can’t get back to the original terms and agreement page from there either.
Broken
by Soonerfan105 on 2018/09/17 00:54
After the most recent update I had to accept user agreement but temporarily lost internet connection in the middle of that process and no no matter what I do the app says “you must have internet access to accept user agreement, check internet connection and try again.” I have deleted the app and redone loaded, I have reset my phone and nothing works. The app it 100% useless to me right now. Please help.
Policy change box
by UzumakiLukas on 2018/06/29 12:22
After the last update the app doesn’t let you pass through its policy box because it just doesn’t click the Agree, I tried to close the app and launch it again and nothing. It used to be a really good app though!
Awful
by CameronGarriepy on 2019/04/01 16:11
Would be 0 stars if I could.
App Crashes when switching zones - STILL NOT FIXED
by BrewMen on 2019/01/17 19:04
Just adding on that we are still waiting for an update, going on two months now - ridiculous. This will be the last Sony purchase I make - Every time I switch to zone 2 the app crashes. When are you guys going to fix this??? This is ridiculous, it’s been reported by numerous users for several weeks FIX THE BUG so we can use the product you received our money for. Terrible customer service!!!!
UGH!
Loses sync
by Mikeswif11 on 2019/08/18 20:13
Don’t waste your time with this app. We have had the speakers for some time and love them. Decided to give the app a try...What we found is that if it works it’s awesome. Only tested it yesterday and it lost synchronization more than it was connected. Not cool
Can’t Accept Terms of Use
by mommyhaleiv on 2018/10/04 18:38
I’ve been using this app for a long time. Today, I got a notification that I had to accept the Music Center’s Terms of Use, scrolled all the way to the bottom, even tried clicking links within the terms (which simply takes me to the same thing in another language), and I can’t get the toggle to “check” the box to say that I agree. Apparently you can’t bypass it either, so I guess I’m stuck with this useless app. Ridiculous.
App Crashes when changing zones
by WLLong on 2018/12/14 23:17
Does anyone ever test things before they release them? This app used to work. Now I can’t control Zone 2 or HDMI Zone. This app and the Sony STR-DN1080 were never field tested before being released. Nothing works the way it should. It’s so simple to just hook it up in a normal multi zone home environment to realize nothing works correctly. So sad that I spent this much money on a piece of hardware that can’t do simple things that stereos were doing just fine in 1998.
Horrible with Sony STR-DN850
by eggandwaffle on 2018/02/07 01:48
If I had known the software was this bad I never would have bought this receiver. Really terrible. Doesn't let me control basic settings like standby mode (it goes into standby mode all the time). Clunky for music. Doubt anyone from Sony ever tried to use this software day to day. **Update: Went from bad to worse. Now STR—DN850 support has been removed completely. Sony should open source the software so hobbyists could perhaps create their own solutions.
Miserable
by Pee Kay on 2019/05/25 23:30
Bought a second XBS speaker to be able to group the speakers, hoping to end up with a travel-sonos type of solution.
