I’m not allowed to watch YouTube videos and I like to listin to music their I told my aunt and she said their was this amazing app, she wasn’t lying,so she downloaded it for me and put the parental controls on and at first I had no idea how to work it so I left the app their for a week and one day I disided to fiddle with it I found this button and I pressed it. It took me to a whole nother planet, a planet of music. Just in a day I already had 20 songs in my library!!! Trust me if you LOVE music you will LOVE this 😘❤️❤️❤️

Google Play Music is a bad app when I signed in I searched a song but It only shows radio but no problem I can just skip until I found a song I was looking for but this message occurd “You ran out of skips to get unlimited skips you need to subscribe to a subscription But I didn’t find it so this app is Junk.

Google Play Music seems to have issues when artists have similar names and will incorrectly associate the song with the wrong artist. Tried contacting support and they didn’t end up fixing the issue

I downloaded this app because my premium membership ended on YouTube so I couldn’t listen to music out the YouTube app blah blah blah (me trying not to make this boring but still is) I ran across this app but saw bad reviews I downloaded it myself and am having a great experience I guess the people who made bad reviews are just haters this is the best app I’ve seen it lets me play music outside the app, I don’t get any ads in the middle of a song! I will tell all my fans on my youtube channel to download this app! Thanks for the app!

I live in PUerto Rico and at times will not work as it thinks im outside US territory.. it woud tequire me to change clular setting to 4g as LTE will co fuse the app. Also when using it on my lap top i will have same issue.. this need to be fixed. Other than that, app works great..

For reasons I won’t go into here, Google Play Music is the only music streaming app I can use to listen to particular songs I’ve uploaded from CDs. There’s one HUGE issue I have: it will randomly skip songs during playback of an album I’ve uploaded. I’ve looked into it an apparently it’s caused by the app auto-caching songs or something? I don’t know the technicalities of that, but it’s incredibly frustrating when I know it is skipping songs that I want to hear. PLEASE fix this!!! There are other people I’ve seen online having this same issue and Google Play has done seemingly nothing to fix it!!

I currently have a monthly subscription for music with Google but will soon be canceling it and start paying the monthly fee for Apple Music. The problem is the built-in EQ settings for the iPhone does not affect music using this app. You would think Google would add a simple EQ built into their music player. After doing some research I have seen that people have asked for it for years and it is still not available. My hearing is not what it used to be and need to use an EQ to make music sound “normal” again. Very disappointed in this app and is a dealbreaker. I will be forced to use Apple Music so I can set EQ settings.

Well this is a amazing app I use it all day everyday but, it doesn’t have any songs that I’m into like creepy and breakup songs but it’s good for the most part. What I would have you do is make like, like, um... like more song that show‘s up(in search). So I hope you understand what I’m trying to say. Goodbye!

This was the first music app I ever did try may not have been perfect most times but I enjoyed it. I eventually tried others to see how they compared to this. In my honest opinion this was the best of them all. Sad to see it go. I know people will come on here & complain like crazy. Instead of doing that however long this app has left I’m going to use that time & enjoy this app.

This service is being migrated to the terrible YouTube Music platform. What used to be one of the best music services available will see a slow death over the coming months. Everyone will need to find another alternative service, or live with the YT Music junk. Sadly it is all downhill from here. So sad to see Google walk away from their customers like this. RIP Google Play Music. I loved every minute of our time together.

It’s has been YEARS and still the iOS app STILL randomly disconnects or loses control when casting to Google Chromecast Audio network. Please either fix this or kill this app once and for all and allow us to migrate playlists over to YTM. Stop pretending that GPM works...IT DOESN’T!

This is my favorite music app by far, but the actual ability to play music is hit or miss. Often times I get can’t play this song right now message, very frustrating. You have to trick the app by selecting the song before the one you want, then it will give error on that song and move you forward to the actual song you want to hear? Confused? I know.

I hate that it doesn’t default to your last repeat or shuffle settings so it just stops playing all the time. For some reason when I close my phone and this app is open, it skips multiple beats before playing again. Can’t figure out how to remove and artist from my artist list. Just poor UI in my opinion. But I get it for free with my YT premium.

Google needs to step it up and redesign the Google Play Music app for Apple devices. I have been a subscriber for over 3 years and paying my $9.99 and I have been tempted to switch to Apple Music but I tend to use Google Play Music because I have all my playlists on here established. Google Play Music needs to be more stable on Apple devices. It does not plat music or any type of song I pick sometimes, it does not show lyrics like Apple Music does, and Google Play Music also lags quite a bit. The Sleep Time is also not convenient to get to. You have to go into the settings and set it where as with Apple Music it’s just there with a swipe up. Once Google redesigns Google Play Music or at LEAST makes me much more stable and user friendly for Apple Devices... then I will change this review to a 5 star.

I love this app and I use it all the time( only during the day) but lately I haven’t in over a month at night. Not because I don’t like it. But I like to use the sleep timer almost every night. But I haven’t been able to use it. As soon as I click the settings and then sleep timer there no numbers on the screen for me to scroll down. It only have a zero. Hope u can fix this problem. My sister also has this problem. Shes like me. We like to listen to music tell we fall asleep. That’s why I love this app. It has a sleep timer, so I don’t have use the app the whole night and It turns off when I set the sleep timer.

I find the app to be really well designed. Love the fact that it also syncs with my iTunes library. One feature I like is that it stores location and resumes if listening to a talk. iTunes resumes at the beginning which is irritating. Highly recommended

Having an issue with editing a playlist. I go to delete a song and it ends up deleting something different. We should also be able to edit the name of our playlists as well.

When my subscription renewed I was surprised to find some of my music in my library disappeared from Play Music. I was even more shocked to find my YouTube has advertisements again. This is because Google does not care about there Play Music users anymore, they have a new streaming service YouTube music that they want everyone to use. So now I have lost YouTube Red (now YouTube Premium), and have access to a competing version of the same application; it feels frustrating. Combine this with music missing from my library and a constantly crashing player on iOS; I am done, I am unsubscribing and never looking back. I will be using a competing music streaming service that has their act together. And I will NEVER pay $12.00/mo for add free YouTube I used to get bundled in a $15.00 Music package.

I use this app all the time primarily because I have access to the paid plan features along with a couple other people on the plan with me. I've gotten so used to the way this app is set up that I hardly use any other apps for streaming music. The most frustrating issue that I continue having on here is when I am trying to remove a particular song from a playlist, but after I swipe left and hit the trash symbol to delete it - not only is the song still there, but another song on the playlist gets deleted instead! I can tell that something else was deleted because the list of songs still gets reduced and the songs towards the bottom shift upward, but since it happens so fast I don't know which song it was that got deleted. But one I was trying to delete it still there. SUPER frustrating. Please fix this Google! I don't want to have to rebuild all my playlists on another app, but if this keeps happening I will definitely do that.

Sleep timer goes blank and can’t be read if you have dark mode set on iOS iPad Pro. You have to exit dark mode, set the timer and then go back in to set dark mode again. Please fix. We pay every month for this app.

I am consistently amazed how bad this app really is. And now, they made it even worse as the text descriptions of the artists are completely unreadable due to the black text being shown on a black background. Does anyone at Google even test this stuff before it goes live?

- Everytime you play a song and lock the phone, audio pauses and cuts out for a couple seconds and then plays. This happens on multiple devices of iOS. -When browsing top songs, random songs that are definitely not “top songs” are being displayed. Too songs for specific genres are also being displayed under the wrong genre. -The app needs more features to be able to play around with queued songs. Spotify and Apple Music apps are 100x better and more intuitive.

Since recent updates the app now shows a message that the app recently crashed and asks if I want to send data to Google EVERY SINGLE TIME I OPEN THE APP. First off, the app isn't crashing. Second, it some thing to show this annoying pop up once, but come on, do you have to show it every single time I open the app. Epic QA failure here.

This app is great when it wants to work which is not most of the time. If I’m not on wifi and a Travis Scott song comes on, it won’t play and then I can’t go back into that playlist. ONLY happens with his songs. When I go to work and sign in, about every other time it won’t pull up my recently played or any other playlist. Doesn’t make sense because my browser is up to date and is connected to the internet. Pretty irritating amount of bugs for what could be a great app. And it would be cool if I could contact your help center instead of writing a review but the help center doesn’t work on safari or a PC 🤷🏻‍♀️

I usually love this app and have used it for several years, however I have a problem that with your app that frustrates me. The app is rather slow sometimes and when I want to edit a playlist and press done, the app changes the order of the songs and it’s rather frustrating. I hope you can fix this.

I’ve been using this app for 4 years. They used to have a built in equalizer, they took it out. And now all the top charts are filled with Asian rip offs of American artists songs. So the “top charts” section is now useless and I can’t find new music. Switching to Apple Music or YouTube music.

I’ve heard the rumors of watching to switch it completely over to YouTube Music. But please don’t do this!!! Google Music is very intuitive. The play-next algorithm is smarter than YouTube, and has a much nicer design.

I have been using google music since forever but now the app gets stuck so much that it’s come to a point that I came to write this review, I hope a developer reads and does something about it. Sometimes the play button is turned on but the music is not playing, when it plays on google home, it’s not connecting instantly and again the play button gets stuck. I have open and close the app multiple times. Basically it’s not very seamless, especially the play/pause button. It is very very irritating. I have a paid subscription and would not like this kind of experience. Being a software developer myself, I can see many flaws with this app. Google is a big brand to have such problems leave alone major bugs.

Terrible quality streams, design with virtually zero likeability, slow to feature new releases, and now tha queue on iPhone cannot be modified. If not bundled with YouTube Premium, I would never use app this unfriendly to music and music lovers. Please get it together, Google or Alphabet or Yahweh or whomever -

So who thought it would be a great idea to force new unskippable video ads on an app that we’re using to listen to music? Do you realize we’re trying to put the phone in our pocket and move on? If you lock your phone the ad stops and you’ll never hear music. Good going guys, this used to be a halfway useable app, not even considering how much of a pain you made it to add your own music which is somehow still a thing. I’m always surprised how devs let annoyances continue in their app for years, it’s clear you don’t use it or don’t care much about it. Plenty of other options out there so why not polish this thing up?
May be a bug in the Sleep timer

One reason I stuck with Pandora so long was for the sleep timer. I learned Google Play Music had a sleep timer so I started using it more to fall asleep. However, recently I have found the sleep timer is malfunctioning with the pop up screen being blank on my phone instead of showing the hours and minutes and I have to guess how many times I turn the dial to choose 1 hr 1 minute. Sometimes I turn too far and have to stick with 2:01 because I can’t turn it back. Help fix this Google, I can’t find anywhere else to report a bug?!

Most times when I’m flipping through songs, and I try to go back to one, it refuses to play it 3x then comes up with a pop up saying “Cancel | Try Again” and if you hit try again, it plays the song... This has been happening for YEARS. Can someone please fix this??

I've been using this app on Android, iPhone and listen on a browser. I recently switched to dark mode on iOS and the app in dark mode is a little hard to use. If you create or edit a playlist the text is in white, but Sonos the field. Makes the text invisible. Could that app adjust to dark mode so that that doesn't happen.

I come from Android, so this is my go to Music App... I would like to see Lyrics and a way to tweak with the Equalizer settings.
Good but has some bugs

I enjoy using google play but recently there’s been a bug with the sleep timer feature. It works and you can still set timers but you can’t see any of the numbers for how many minutes. I just scroll and hit done to see the time I picked lol. Kinda weird but it’s an issue. This has always been a thing for this app but I wish that the album covers were kept square instead of cutting off the sides to fit the screen. I’d rather have some white space or something than lose half of the album art, when that’s a super important thing to lots of artists.

I had almost no problems with this app on Android. But I’m starting to be disappointed in the IPhone version. I’ve had no problems until now, I’ll have the music playing and I’ll be on a different app then the music will just quickly fade away or constantly stop. One song even started in the music which really confused me and I can’t even change the volume without risking my hearing because it’s a minute late. Right now I’m thinking it might be better to just use my other phone for the music and delete this app on my IPhone.

The organization for the app is a bit confusing and feels less user friendly than other apps. There are multiple ways to navigate the app but can be confusing when you first start using it. It’s a good app, but I think alternative music apps are better. The main issue that I have is when I add songs to My Library, many of the recently released songs/albums end up getting deleted. Does anyone else have this issue? There’s no way for me of knowing which dogs were removed from my library until I end up searching randomly for that song because I want to listen to it. Not sure if it is a licensing issue of some sort, but it consistently happens to me. We have a family plan, and everyone on our plan has experienced the same thing. One of our users only had about 25 songs in their library, and after a month, it was reduced to 3 songs. If you have a large library of saved songs you like, you’ll never know it gets removed until you search for it. Personally, I like to just shuffle all my songs in My Library when I’m driving or working, so I never really know when songs get removed. But I occasionally wonder why certain songs don’t get played. I later discover why after I search for the song and see that it was removed from my library.

Keeping it short and sweet, the app works pretty well overall. The only issue I run into is with CarPlay and this app. While the music works fine, you can access all your playlists, etc., two bugs are present. The first is that it doesn’t always show my “Now Playing”. When I click on it sometimes it just sits there at the same screen and freezes, never going to now playing. If I reboot the Google Play Music app or the phone itself, then it usually fixes itself and shows the “Now Playing” screen with what Google Play Music is playing. The bigger issue, however, is whenever I am using the Google Play Music app I lose all functionality for Siri through CarPlay. The icon of Siri shows up if I activate it, but you can’t speak and have it recognize your voice. Once Siri “beeps” so you know to start talking, no matter what you say it doesn’t recognize your voice and just sits there. Then, it stops the voice input thing and goes right back to the song that was playing. It’s quite frustrating/annoying. The moment you leave the app and go into, say, Apple Music or something else it works fine. It’s only when you are using Google Play Music and music is playing. Please fix this and it goes to 5 stars :).
Incredibly buggy

Great service. Terrible iOS app. It fundamentally can't play music reliably even when the music is downloaded on the phone I.e. not streaming. The app's been buggy for some time. It used to be better but has steadily deteriorated. I waited patiently for this new release and the longer it took to arrive the more hopeful I was that they'd fix it but this release seems at least as bad as the last. For a company such resources this seems like an amateurish attempt at an iOS app. Or someone is trying to make it terrible on purpose so that I switch to Apple Music. I wonder what the product manager and QA team are up to when their app can't even play a song all the way through? Downloaded songs will stop playing even in offline mode - just today a downloaded song stopped 4 times. Again, these are songs that are on my phone not streaming. It's mostly a mystery why songs stop but at least some have to do with the radio environment. Any time the cellular radio switches mode or the phone switches to wifi the song stops. In NYC it's a busy radio environment with frequency cell handover, and forget using this app on the subway - even in "Dowwnload only" mode. On wifi at home it mostly works but that's not when I need it to work. My gramophone has that use case covered. Super disappointing that this release didn't address the long standing playback issues.
CarPlay Issues

Extremely glitchy with Google Play Music (and Siri). I have the paid subscription of Play Music, but the app in Apple Car Play will no longer display any information (playlists, songs, now playing, etc). It’s just a black screen (the music will play and I can see the songs only on MyLinks “iPod” screen, not Car Play). I tried uninstalling the app and resetting MyLink in my Silverado to default settings, while also manually disconnecting all services from each other. That did not fix the problem. I will also ditto some of the Siri complaints and take it a step further. If Siri isn’t properly prompted, it will freeze all volume controls in my Silverado including the volume knob and the steering wheel volume controls for my entire radio (not just Apple Car Play). Nothing will fix this issue until I am completely out of the car, turn it off, and come back at least 15 minutes later for me to get control over my radio back. This hasn’t yet happened to me on a “long drive” for more than an hour, but I’ve been stuck for at least half an hour in a frozen volume purgatory (can’t adjust up or down). Between Apple and Google, get your ish together. This is just embarrassing for both of you as multi billion dollar companies.

Play Music is and always will be the only music app I ever use. It’s always worked how it needs to and is simple to use, with great quality content. BUT, I don’t know if it’s just the iOS app, but it seems like it gets buggier after every update. I have a lot of problems when I’m trying to use the app with my google home. Most of the time it won’t even connect to it when I want to cast music. When I try to delete a song from a playlist, it instead deletes a different one that’s a couple songs up and the one I originally tried to delete stays there, and I can’t get rid of it. And something I noticed today, if I try to select ‘play next’ on a song while I’m listening to music, it stops the music completely and a whole other song from a completely different playlist is selected and shows up on the screen. AND now when I listen to a playlist on shuffle, it plays one song, and then the music stops after that and doesn’t continue playing the rest of the playlist. It seems like the more you try to fix something that doesn’t need fixing, the worse the app gets.

I used to love Google Play Music because it was free and easy, I had my usuals to listen to and I loved all the music that popped up. Perfect for what I use GPM for; driving, showers, and hair and makeup music. But, now there seemed to be a new update that has really messed everything up. Now when I play music after the first song it stops playing music until I open my phone and go to the app where it starts an ad. 😤 The least you can do is make sure the ads play seamlessly with the music while I’m driving. I thought maybe this was a glitch and after the first time it would just play like usual with the ads, but NO. With EVERY AD there is a stop in the music where I need to open my phone and the app in order to start the ad and then finally continue with the music. Why would you make the ads this way? You’re causing problems with your free listeners and why? Just to try to get them to buy your subscription? If I wanted to get a subscription I definitely wouldn’t choose GPM, especially if they keep this up. How does it look to make free listeners become distracted drivers just to try to get them to buy the premium? Or flood the bathroom while they try to fix their music? Stupid. FIX YOUR AD BUG!

I love the Play Music app way more than iTunes or Apple Music. I have use Google play and play music for a long time. But once I got a new vehicle with the CarPlay actually or feature the Google play music has quite often caused issues. Whether it was now playing this song or delaying to be pulled up in the app or stating there is not connection when trying to pull up playlist. Majority of the time I am using my actual phone to start play music from a playlist or simply the library. I have seen other reviews with the same response, so I know I am not the only one. I’m sure part of the reason is because I am using an Apple phone with google play music. But also using the CarPlay feature seems to support more iPhone features than Google features. Even still I would prefer to use Google play music rather than the Apple Music. Excited for when there has been and update sent out for this issue to be resolved. Honestly, this is the only reason for a 3 star rating. It’s pretty important! Removing that dilemma; EASILY A 5 STAR RATING.!.!

Okay, I’m still using this service. But, gotta say, this really sucked major time, and support was absolutely no help at all. Spent an eternity on the phone to be told there was nothing to be done except to download everything all over again. My library was emptied completely of all music except for one artist and one song by one other artist, which I consider completely unacceptable!!! I had a massive accumulation of music and I use music A LOT, for many things, including work and travel. Getting all my favorites again is going to take a lot of time and I’m really angry about this situation and how it was handled. I feel like reaching out for help was a waste of time, and even worse, if you’re going to offer a service, make sure that something this major DOES NOT HAPPEN. I understand technology has bugs, and I would have probably been more patient and understanding if they at least acknowledged the problem and were working on a solution, but I was essentially told that it was a situation they were not familiar with, and I was responsible for it myself. Really??!!??!!

Google Play Music has a great selection of tracks and radios stations to choose from, and should have more than enough to suit anyone’s musical tastes. Additionally, audio quality is not a problem, each song sounds crystal clear, despite being a given more often than not for music streaming services. However, there are many little nuances in the UI that bogs down the whole experience. Searching through menus feels choppy, and even delayed at times, as if the app as a whole is unoptimized for iOS. Even worse, is how power-hungry it is. Every time I open the app to switch to another album, or playlist, I find my phone lose several percent within minutes of just using it. However this power consumption issue does not occur during background use, thankfully. Overall, this app feels clunky, and no amount of UI changes, or additions will change that until Google fixes the optimization issues within the app. At best, the app works like any music-streaming service. At worst, it is a choppy, power-hungry mess that’s sure to frustrate any user.

I had this app on my phone, on my iPhone, while it was still in iOS app. Don’t ask me to remember the name of the app, I just remember receiving an email that it was going to be Google play as of January 1 and again don’t ask me what year it was either😊 I love the way Google play place through my speakers, while I’m in the car. I have a 2006 Honda Civic, so as you can imagine some of my speakers don’t work. But listening to this app, instead of fruit named applications, Google play definitely takes the cake. The only thing I would change is that, if you would just start the radio station with the person, persons, group, act whatever.... start the song someone is REQUESTING FIRST. They are requesting that SONG that particular TIME and for a PARTICULAR REASON (NEEDED it THEN)and most of the time, they don’t even get to hear the song the request that started the station.....!And that is a BUMMER!!

I use this app all the time primarily because I have access to the paid plan features along with a couple other people on the plan with me. I've gotten so used to the way this app is set up that I hardly use any other apps for streaming music. The most frustrating issue that I continue having on here is when I am trying to remove a particular song from a playlist, but after I swipe left and hit the trash symbol to delete it - not only is the song still there, but another song on the playlist gets deleted instead! I can tell that something else was deleted because the list of songs still gets reduced and the songs towards the bottom shift upward, but since it happens so fast I don't know which song it was that got deleted. But one I was trying to delete it still there. SUPER frustrating. Please fix this Google! I don't want to have to rebuild all my playlists on another app, but if this keeps happening I will definitely do that.

How does a company with so much smarts get this soooo wrong!! I don't want to listen to someone else's playlist or mix! The internet allows me to ditch radio--why else would I invest the time uploading the music I bought?? I suppose pushing new music to me is the deal you had to make with the record industry robber-barons. Ok, I'll cut you slack there. But I can't forgive this abysmal iPhone user interface. To be forced to scroll through those useless bubble images to find an artist is downright user-antagonistic! When I am looking at My Library, I can see a grand total of 4 artists or albums per screen. When I click an artist, I can only see the first two (2) of their albums because the top half of the screen is showing me a picture of the band it pulled from somewhere. I don't need pictures! Album covers are awesome when they are a foot square and made of real cardboard. They are decidedly not awesome when reduced to a postage stamp to fit on a 2" x 4" display. A simple text listing is all that is needed (think original iPod). It's faster and more elegant. Really hope someone is listening.

This is the best music app out there currently, but it’s not without flaws. It has all kinds of bugs in CarPlay. For instance, when I try to access my downloaded playlists, it tells me “getting music,” and stays stuck there until I give up and access it through my phone. Also, songs regularly have interference, as if I was playing a scratched record, even though the songs have been downloaded (ie: it’s not due to poor streaming quality). Lastly, the font is so ridiculously small and there’s no way to change it because it’s not compatible with Apple’s software. Who’s fault that is,I have no idea—but it’s annoying. What I like about the app is that I can create radio playlist and then download them. This allows me to listen to tons of new music without having to pay to stream it. This is a feature Apple’s app doesn’t offer. I hope Google will further develop this app, although they don’t seem to push out updates very often.

This is really the only music app I use. I, personally, like how it works, but that's because I've been using it for years. It's not the same for a new user; the layout is easy to get confused with. I have had to deal with issues with deleting songs from my playlists. Trying to delete one song will delete the song one, two, sometimes even three songs above it. It comes and goes, but it's still a reoccurring problem that I've had for the longest time, and when it comes around, I often lose songs for good, because there's no way I could keep track of all 300 of them. And, though I have 300 songs, I may end up listening to some more than others because the Shuffle option isn't that great. Play Music is also pretty buggy-- the panels that come up for adding songs will sometimes jump across the screen. Speaking of, I do wish that there was an option to simply add a bunch of songs to a playlist all at once rather than one by one.

I’ve been insanely loyal to google play music for a good deal of years now, always thought the expense was worth every penny. But since switching to an iPhone it’s been an absolute nightmare. Even though I’m set up for reoccurring payments it keeps switching me to a free based account and completely deleting everything I’ve downloaded from the past few years from my library with no discernible way to get any of it back. Renewing my subscription was a serious task as no matter what I’d do to update or search through the app, it gave 0 ways to let me pay for a subscription! I do not own a computer so had to get a friend to lend me theirs. After double checking it would be a reoccurring payment, it turned out the next month the same thing happened and I’m traveling abroad and so have 0 access to a computer. Not only that I can’t even purchase individual albums or songs. Before this the app glitched and refused to download any new music, while I still had my subscription. Definitely going to switch to a different streaming service, this is ridiculous.

So i just got this app, and i think its amazing! But (this problem also might be because i just started using it) when i play songs and i “favorite” them or whatever they go into a playlist (obviously) so i thought if i did that to all the songs i want to listen to later i could just do that, but the problem is I can’t. It won’t let me hit the play button and if i hit the song, this thing comes up saying something like “do u want to start a radio with songs related to (insert songs title here)” but it won’t let me listen to the song i want. Secondly, when i go to the search bar thing to search for a select song, they come up as “radios” and not the song itself. All i want is to be able to search and find the song i want, “favorite it” and listen to it later. Other then that, its a really good app I recommend it!

1) This app isn’t attractive in the way that other music platforms are. 2) It can be confusing the use when you first start. It’s not a very user-friendly interface 3) IT CRASHES A LOT. If I play a song and leave the app, it stops for a while then picks up again and stays okay as long as I don’t open the app again. If I do, the app crashes totally. Occasionally (like today) the songs kept breaking briefly (for about a second to three seconds at a time). This app has been crashing for almost as long as I’ve been using it. I got a new phone and things were good for almost three months and recently (a week or so ago), I had to start using that work-around where I don’t open the app a second time to avoid crashing. I honestly much prefer the web player. It’s more attractive and doesn’t crash.

Extraordinarily obvious aspects of customer satisfaction have either never been implemented or have existed previously and somehow were removed. For example: when you look in your Recents tab, it doesn’t show the songs you last listened to (in the order you listened to them). It shows a random assortment of songs playlists and artists, some of which you may not have touched in the last year. Furthermore, they often don’t appear as search suggestions, even if it’s literally the song that was last entered in the search (say like 10 seconds ago). Additionally, as noted, features that did exist have disappeared. I used to be able to “Identify what’s playing” a la Shazam via the search field. That of course was too useful so it was removed. I’m very unhappy with the implementation of this software on this platform, and I certainly have stopped recommending it. There has been little to zero incentive presented in recent months to continue paying for this service when the existing iTunes software is clearly better equipped and whose functionality is generally superior.

Honestly, you guys have the best algorithm for finding similar musicians and the ability to have radio stations based off a single song is pretty awesome, but come on guys you’re one of the largest tech companies in the world and you don’t updated your app in over 3 months. There’s more than enough bugs to warrant an update. For one, I can’t even stream from this app to my Chromecast audio. It just never works. Also for whatever reason half of my thumbs up playlist disappears mid-stream when I go from Wi-fi to LTE. I have feeling that this has to do with beef with Apple, but honestly that’s no excuse. I pay for a premium membership and seemingly simple problems like this should be fixed. Also an Apple TV app would be nice or at least have the ability to display album artwork when streaming would be appreciated.

I love this app and have been paying the $10 for about 4 years now. I feel it’s the best app available and worth the money. Only issue I have is when I change music in playlist or radio, It keeps skipping songs and I have to go back 3-4 times because it keeps trying to skip until I get message prompting me to “try again” then it works. It gets annoying when I’m just surfing for something good. It’s not my service cuz I have full bars and internet and still a problem. I’m sure it has to do with buffering and streaming and not being downloaded but it does get old!! Other than that.. the app itself has all the music I need and want! I always suggest google play!

Google Play music is cool cuz i like the radio stations they have. I like that u can see the song play lists on the radio stations. This way there’s no mystery as to what’s coming up. You can play different types of stations depending on your moods, what you’re doing, genre of music etc. u can move songs around in the song queue, forward songs, repeat songs, go back to songs. There’s NO ads. No junk. No BS. I also like when i play it on my iPad and i can see the actual album real big on the screen. My only gripe is sometimes they have certain albums there and the next day u look it’s gone for no reason. Aside from that Google Play works great on my phone and my iPad. I highly recommend it!!!

Love the app in general works well most the time, but many times when trying to play music of my phone to my google home group in the house, it will kick the BT connection off and not allow a connection, i have fixed this issue temp. By deleting the app and reinstalling, but it happens randomly, the other on is just a preference thing, all the YT thumbs up symbols are on the right and thumbs down is on the left except this app, and it throws me off, when i hit the TD button instead of TU. Also on the phone its much easier to click TU on the right considering u mostly have the phone held one handed. Thanks for all the other updates across all your platforms, The Goliath company has become one of my favorites, specially after the google Home, i have one is every room. Update: Had to bring it down to one star, as all my songs are Gone from my playlists. This is unacceptable for such a company as google.

I’ve had play music for quite a few months and I’ve finally had it with the app. I can’t count the amount of times the app has told me that I can’t play this song right now or had deleted songs random from albums. It’s also a very feature poor app, seriously I have a 256 gig iPhone with 200 gigs free and cloud photo storage... why do I have to click download for every album I want to have offline and then still have to deal with playback issues. On top of the feature issues my library is nearly unusable because it was “auto organized” which destroyed my folder structured music library. Not convenient when you listen to a lot of obscure edm artists. Seriously google it’s 2019 and you can’t deliver a better product than my 10 year old iPod classic... guess I need to go back to rock box since iTunes is just as bad.

It’s a good music app! Can download for offline and all the yada-yada. But there are 3 things that annoy me: 1) Sometimes I’ll download a single from an album but then a little while later download the whole album. It doesn’t download the single(s) I already download and instead creates separate albums; 1 for the singles and 1) for the rest of the album. So I have the same album separated into 2 separate albums. 2) NEED to filter out the censored content. C’mon now! Nothing worse than listening to the censored version except maybe unknowingly downloading the censored version and being unable to fix it 3) This is perhaps the most annoying, but when I delete songs from a playlist, it won’t delete the song I swipe to delete. It will delete either the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd song above the song I select. It completely baffles me

This app I deleted off my phone. I got this app so I could stream my music offline. I was going on a trip, the trip was about a two hour long ride. I downloaded the app to stream my music, and I searched up a song I liked. The problem was I went under all categories I could find and couldn’t fine my music. All I could find was radio stations. I found this app from my friend who owns a Samsung and already had this app on her phone. I own a IPhone 6+ and decided that I would try this app. It sounded good because my friend and I would listen to the music together. The music played fine and she had tons of music on there. That is why I downloaded it. I don’t have the app anymore. I am going to try the app again, but I’m sure it still won’t work. Still a great app for Samsung’s.

This app is my preferred method of streaming music but it is not elegant or refined at all. For example, album artwork does not fit the screen, it is zoomed for some reason when you’re playing a song from that album which just looks weird. There is a playlist of songs recently added to your library however no matter how many songs i’ve just added, the playlist never updates. Songs have randomly disappeared from my library. Some songs stop/start playing halfway through, others don’t play at all. I think some added features could be useful, such as the ability to look up lyrics. I have nothing to compare this app to because i’ve never used another streaming service but I’d say this could definitely be improved upon.

I came here to listen to certain songs in particular, but after looking it up, all I got was the radio version which only features songs that are different from it. You can’t see all the songs and the picking is random so if you like a song, you’d better hit the button because you probably won’t see it again in your life. And for some reason you can’t get to your song in it’s playlist because it only gives you a tiny bit of skips before you can’t use anymore without their paywall. And the worst part is if you want it on loop, better choose a better app because they don’t have loop. The similar song thing is good but if you want a better review, add loop and the ability to listen to singular songs and maybe a gaming section on the home screen. And I don’t just mean behind your little paywall, I mean for everyone to use, like music apps should do.

I absolutely love this music player. I’ve been using it for years. It’s the only music player that I can put literally any song that I download on it. It can hold up to 50,000 songs, which is incredible because I have so many songs that I want to download but other music players just don’t hold more than 100. The only thing is I wish that the shuffler was better. I have so many songs on it, yet I still feel like it repeats songs over and over again. I’ve had some songs on the app for awhile that it has never played once and others that it has played like 10 times. The app overall is amazing. I just hope they can fix the shuffling problem.

I love this app and I use it all the time( only during the day) but lately I haven’t in over a month at night. Not because I don’t like it. But I like to use the sleep timer almost every night. But I haven’t been able to use it. As soon as I click the settings and then sleep timer there no numbers on the screen for me to scroll down. It only have a zero. Hope u can fix this problem. My sister also has this problem. Shes like me. We like to listen to music tell we fall asleep. That’s why I love this app. It has a sleep timer, so I don’t have use the app the whole night and It turns off when I set the sleep timer.

Edit few versions later: And this app is still being stupid, like nothing seems to be going right still no album work, it’s mind blowing that there is no album work even offline. This app used to be great, can’t lie I’m thinking of making the switch to Apple Music,I wonder if there app will be better than googles Old review- Still no fix, even updated the iOS 11, Well the app seems to no longer work properly, I can deal with most bugs but this one bothers me like no other. So when playing songs offline there seems to be a issue with viewing the album art while offline, it shows up just with a gray background but when I kick on the wifi the art comes back, even tried restoring my iPod and bam its the same issues all over again. Must be the app, also the files are playing are all offline. Google get to together.

I am a huge fan of the product moreso than the app. Having all of this great music at your fingertips is a blessing and at times a curse (how many playlists can one person create???) I find the one standout thing that bothers me most about this app (because it happens SO frequently) is the constant crashing. Start adding an album to your library and the app lags, if a song is playing it starts skipping, then app freezes and you must close to reboot. If a song is playing and you go to the search, it will sometimes freeze up and crash. Please perfect this app, find what is causing it to crash so often and eliminate it. Google Play Music is such an awesome service, but it becomes an issue when the app won't let you play it without incident.
Music Always Stops Playing

I want to like this app because of the features to have your own library plus access to streaming music that isn’t in your own collection. The problem is that many others have said already is the app CONSTANTLY stops playing music for no reason at all. This will happen regardless of what is going on. It can be a saved music file on your phone. It can be streaming when you have WiFi. It can happen all the time. And it does. This app is very glitchy and has scroll problems as well. The service itself is great and when using on a computer I have not experienced issues but this app is borderline useless unless you are ok with constantly hitting the pause/play button to try to get your music playing again. Crazy how Google can’t seem to get an app working that with a subscription costs $10 a month.
Duplicates

My main gripe would be that duplicates of almost every album in my library appear. Sometimes in multiples of 5. This makes my library crazy unorganized. There are also many instances where complete albums are split into 2 albums. Fix these long standing issues and I may give you guys another try. ( update ) Here we are almost a year later and the duplicate album issue is still there. Why, and how can they not have fixed this by now? I’ve read on some Google Official help forums where mods want to place the blame on apple. If that’s the case then why isn’t this an issue with any other music app? I’ve tried them all. I’m using the app only because I have a large music library tied to it. I’m not happy about it at all though. My customer satisfaction level on the app itself is 0.

As of the current build, I cannot integrate the player with the built in controls on my iPhone. When I swipe up to control playback, my player is not available. Music will be playing, but I can not pause or skip. The same can be said for controlling playback on my headphones. This was not a problem with the previous build(s) I had installed. Dev Request: create a better way to report issues with the catalog. I had an instance where the names of the songs were correct, but the actual track played was incorrect. Feature request: create a way to do favorite album lists instead of having to add whole albums. Not sure how to articulate this, but it’d be nice to have a top 10 albums list to share.

Google Play- I want to love you, but you need to be fixed. I have been a loyal user of Google Play Music since it’s inception (or whenever it swallowed Songza) I love the interface, but it’s incredibly buggy. I purchased a subscription hoping that this would eliminate the glitches from using the free ad version where the music wouldn’t start after an ad played etc. The straw that broke the camel’s back was a particular Geico ad that would not only stop the music, but send my phone into some weird zombie state where I would have to hold one of the side buttons to wake it up and then close the window Geico had conveniently opened up for me in Safari. Very, very annoying. Now that I’ve chosen to make Google my subscription based music streaming platform of choice, you’d think it would work more seamlessly, especially considering the heavy competition. I certainly didn’t face any issues like this with Apple Music and I am starting to regret my decision to switch over. Now, to my current gripe- this app can’t seem to stop glitching when I bring it up from the background to say, change the station, etc. Google should be able to deliver a seamless experience to paying users. Maybe they’re taking customers like me for granted.

I love the fact that I can access my songs from anywhere with Google Play Music, however this is diminished by the fact that whenever I’m connected to Bluetooth or chromecast, skipping songs is a nightmare, even with a fast internet connection. The app stutters and randomly pauses my music and sometimes skips more than one song. Also, when changing songs, it temporarily stops playing audio to the Bluetooth device even though the song is definitely playing. These functions work normally when using headphones or just playing on the phones built in speaker. So, overall, a useful app, but needs some fine tuning in Bluetooth, skipping, and smooth playback.

I have been using google music since forever but now the app gets stuck so much that it’s come to a point that I came to write this review, I hope a developer reads and does something about it. Sometimes the play button is turned on but the music is not playing, when it plays on google home, it’s not connecting instantly and again the play button gets stuck. I have open and close the app multiple times. Basically it’s not very seamless, especially the play/pause button. It is very very irritating. I have a paid subscription and would not like this kind of experience. Being a software developer myself, I can see many flaws with this app. Google is a big brand to have such problems leave alone major bugs.

Phone used to stay unlocked when app was open playing music and i had a charging cable attached when i was still on ios 10 but i finally gave in and updated to ios 12 and the fundamentals of the app changed. This is dangerous for drivers who stream off of their phones and have to unlock the phone now to see the song currently playing. The only way to keep the display on now is to go into the ios settings and having to set the screen yo stay unlocked unless manually locked (which is not possible if you used touchid and applepay on the phone) I want the feature similar to how google maps keeps the phone unlocked while navigating back. Pre ios 11 and 12.
Really annoying bug

So the app works fine. I love the google play service. Had it for years. But with this most recent I’ve noticed an incredibly annoying bug. Whenever I’m trying to edit the queue to shift songs around, the app crashes. And sometimes if I try to add something to my queue via the “play next” feature, mainly with radios, it’ll add the song to the queue, but it won’t be next. It’ll add it to the top of the queue. Which means the song won’t play in the radio. Also it won’t let me move when I try to edit the queue because it’ll crash if I do. Please fix this. It’s my favorite music app and this kinda makes it annoying to use.

Google play music is great as an app by itself. The radio station and playlist has some of the best recommendations. Compared to Its competitors this really lacks with Apple Car Play. If you hear a song you like you can’t thumbs up or add it to your library through Apple Car Play. Also, the Car Play is very buggy it freezes on almost every trip. The music still plays but I’ll usually have to force close the app on my phone and restart for it to show on Car Play. Sometimes even restarting the app doesn’t work so just have to deal with no Car Play. If Car Play worked as intended, and have better user functionality to add music to the library this would be 5 Stars.

Google needs to step it up and redesign the Google Play Music app for Apple devices. I have been a subscriber for over 3 years and paying my $9.99 and I have been tempted to switch to Apple Music but I tend to use Google Play Music because I have all my playlists on here established. Google Play Music needs to be more stable on Apple devices. It does not plat music or any type of song I pick sometimes, it does not show lyrics like Apple Music does, and Google Play Music also lags quite a bit. The Sleep Time is also not convenient to get to. You have to go into the settings and set it where as with Apple Music it’s just there with a swipe up. Once Google redesigns Google Play Music or at LEAST makes me much more stable and user friendly for Apple Devices... then I will change this review to a 5 star.
Buggy and only getting worse

Seems like more and more often I’m trying to listen to songs on here and get the “Can’t play right now, try again later” error. Hmm google, every other song on this album is playing fine right now, why can’t you play this one? And once it decides it doesn’t wanna play a song, no refreshing the app or reconnecting to data will solve the issue, it’s like the app refuses to even try and load it again. Been a google fan for years but this is making me look into other options, if I’m paying to hear music I expect to be able to listen to the songs I want to hear. Edit - seriously I can’t even play one song now, full connectivity, WiFi working fine, but google play just flat out isn’t working. “Can’t play right now.” Why am I paying you fools? Canceling now.

I’d say this app has been abandoned if it weren’t for periodic useless bug fixes, but they come in every couple months. They made a “good enough” update back when the iPhone X came out and just have made little patches to make it work on the modern ones. There’s still flickering near the notch, search button doesn’t work if it’s near the notch, and still many features and presentation are just not available like they are on other phones. I know iOS isn’t Google’s main priority and all, but this is a paid service that your customers are forced to have a lack luster experience. You could at least provide updates for simple bugs that have been there for going on two and a half years.

They should call it Google Pause. Unfortunately this music app has a lot of finicky bugs—never syncs properly with Microsoft Sync in the car; almost always crashes now when playing a song and the app is opened to either change the song or ‘like’ or ‘unlike’ a song. If you’re using Google Maps in tandem with the music app (like a road trip), the two hate each other and LTE will become bogged down trying to stream data to the two, resulting in either a phone crash or app crash, or both. Too many issues to actually enjoy listening to melodies. The biggest issue faced is the music freezing every time you open the app, switch to a different app, or are entertaining guests.
Better than Apple Music

The paid version of Google Play is phenomenal. They create great playlists and they remember what you like to listen at certain times of the day or on certain days of the week. I find this app easier to navigate than Apple Music also. Even when you close the app, it saves the last song you were listening to to. Apple Music doesn’t do this. It’s a huge advantage for me lol. I just wish I could say “Hey Siri, play...” and she would open Google Play. That’s the only draw back when using the app from iPhone.
Frustrating

There's a lot I love about Google Music: I love the organization, stations, "playing near you" feature, etc., but none of that matters much with the fact that hundreds of songs disappear daily from my Thumbs Up library. I'm pretty serious about my music and I've been cultivating this list for a few years, so to have it drain away every time I open the app is disheartening to say the least. To be fair, if I uninstall and reinstall the app, all my music comes back, so it hasn't completely disappeared into the ether (whew!), but who honestly has the time/inclination to go through all that every time they want to hear some music? I'd recommend finding another app. Everything about this one is great, but this is a big enough problem to take your business elsewhere.

First off I love the variety of radio stations available. This app probably has the most sub-genres compared to other apps. Audio quality is also very good. I would love to be able to download single songs and not entire albums. Sure, I could make a playlist and download it later. But I feel like that's an unnecessary extra step or two. Why not just have the download option available for each track like most other apps offer? Unfortunately, this one lacking feature is enough for me to unsubscribe to the paid service. If they offer this in the future, I might come back to this app

I’m not allowed to watch YouTube videos and I like to listin to music their I told my aunt and she said their was this amazing app, she wasn’t lying,so she downloaded it for me and put the parental controls on and at first I had no idea how to work it so I left the app their for a week and one day I disided to fiddle with it I found this button and I pressed it. It took me to a whole nother planet, a planet of music. Just in a day I already had 20 songs in my library!!! Trust me if you LOVE music you will LOVE this 😘❤️❤️❤️

I downloaded this app because my premium membership ended on YouTube so I couldn’t listen to music out the YouTube app blah blah blah (me trying not to make this boring but still is) I ran across this app but saw bad reviews I downloaded it myself and am having a great experience I guess the people who made bad reviews are just haters this is the best app I’ve seen it lets me play music outside the app, I don’t get any ads in the middle of a song! I live in PUerto Rico and at times will not work as it thinks im outside US territory.. it woud tequire me to change clular setting to 4g as LTE will co fuse the app. Also when using it on my lap top i will have same issue.. this need to be fixed. Other than that, app works great..

For reasons I won’t go into here, Google Play Music is the only music streaming app I can use to listen to particular songs I’ve uploaded from CDs. There’s one HUGE issue I have: it will randomly skip songs during playback of an album I’ve uploaded. I’ve looked into it an apparently it’s caused by the app auto-caching songs or something? I don’t know the technicalities of that, but it’s incredibly frustrating when I know it is skipping songs that I want to hear. PLEASE fix this!!! There are other people I’ve seen online having this same issue and Google Play has done seemingly nothing to fix it!!

I currently have a monthly subscription for music with Google but will soon be canceling it and start paying the monthly fee for Apple Music. The problem is the built-in EQ settings for the iPhone does not affect music using this app. You would think Google would add a simple EQ built into their music player. After doing some research I have seen that people have asked for it for years and it is still not available. My hearing is not what it used to be and need to use an EQ to make music sound “normal” again. Very disappointed in this app and is a dealbreaker. I will be forced to use Apple Music so I can set EQ settings.

This was the first music app I ever did try may not have been perfect most times but I enjoyed it. I eventually tried others to see how they compared to this. In my honest opinion this was the best of them all. Sad to see it go. I know people will come on here & complain like crazy. Instead of doing that however long this app has left I’m going to use that time & enjoy this app.

This service is being migrated to the terrible YouTube Music platform. What used to be one of the best music services available will see a slow death over the coming months. Everyone will need to find another alternative service, or live with the YT Music junk. Sadly it is all downhill from here. So sad to see Google walk away from their customers like this. RIP Google Play Music. I loved every minute of our time together.

It’s has been YEARS and still the iOS app STILL randomly disconnects or loses control when casting to Google Chromecast Audio network. Please either fix this or kill this app once and for all and allow us to migrate playlists over to YTM. Stop pretending that GPM works...IT DOESN’T!

This is my favorite music app by far, but the actual ability to play music is hit or miss. Often times I get can’t play this song right now message, very frustrating. You have to trick the app by selecting the song before the one you want, then it will give error on that song and move you forward to the actual song you want to hear? Confused? I know.

I hate that it doesn’t default to your last repeat or shuffle settings so it just stops playing all the time. For some reason when I close my phone and this app is open, it skips multiple beats before playing again. Can’t figure out how to remove and artist from my artist list. Just poor UI in my opinion. But I get it for free with my YT premium.

I love this app and I use it all the time( only during the day) but lately I haven’t in over a month at night. Not because I don’t like it. But I like to use the sleep timer almost every night. But I haven’t been able to use it. As soon as I click the settings and then sleep timer there no numbers on the screen for me to scroll down. It only have a zero. Hope u can fix this problem. My sister also has this problem. Shes like me. We like to listen to music tell we fall asleep. That’s why I love this app. It has a sleep timer, so I don’t have use the app the whole night and It turns off when I set the sleep timer.

I find the app to be really well designed. Love the fact that it also syncs with my iTunes library. One feature I like is that it stores location and resumes if listening to a talk. iTunes resumes at the beginning which is irritating. Highly recommended

Plenty of music to choose from whether it’s old to the new. But the major issue I always run into is the songs just randomly stop and I get this error message. I’ve had this app for 2+ years and it still hasn’t been fixed. Minor error but annoying that it has yet to been fixed

When my subscription renewed I was surprised to find some of my music in my library disappeared from Play Music. I was even more shocked to find my YouTube has advertisements again. This is because Google does not care about there Play Music users anymore, they have a new streaming service YouTube music that they want everyone to use. So now I have lost YouTube Red (now YouTube Premium), and have access to a competing version of the same application; it feels frustrating. Combine this with music missing from my library and a constantly crashing player on iOS; I am done, I am unsubscribing and never looking back. I will be using a competing music streaming service that has their act together. And I will NEVER pay $12.00/mo for add free YouTube I used to get bundled in a $15.00 Music package.

I use this app all the time primarily because I have access to the paid plan features along with a couple other people on the plan with me. I've gotten so used to the way this app is set up that I hardly use any other apps for streaming music. The most frustrating issue that I continue having on here is when I am trying to remove a particular song from a playlist, but after I swipe left and hit the trash symbol to delete it - not only is the song still there, but another song on the playlist gets deleted instead! I can tell that something else was deleted because the list of songs still gets reduced and the songs towards the bottom shift upward, but since it happens so fast I don't know which song it was that got deleted. But one I was trying to delete it still there. SUPER frustrating. Please fix this Google! I don't want to have to rebuild all my playlists on another app, but if this keeps happening I will definitely do that.

Sleep timer goes blank and can’t be read if you have dark mode set on iOS iPad Pro. You have to exit dark mode, set the timer and then go back in to set dark mode again. Please fix. We pay every month for this app.

App works great when playing music and choosing radio tracks. I am a subscriber and have been for years. As of lately I get a message saying it has “crashed recently” EVERY time I start it up. And asking me to send crash reports. It has gotten very annoying.

I am consistently amazed how bad this app really is. And now, they made it even worse as the text descriptions of the artists are completely unreadable due to the black text being shown on a black background. Does anyone at Google even test this stuff before it goes live?

- Everytime you play a song and lock the phone, audio pauses and cuts out for a couple seconds and then plays. This happens on multiple devices of iOS. -When browsing top songs, random songs that are definitely not “top songs” are being displayed. Too songs for specific genres are also being displayed under the wrong genre. -The app needs more features to be able to play around with queued songs. Spotify and Apple Music apps are 100x better and more intuitive.

Since recent updates the app now shows a message that the app recently crashed and asks if I want to send data to Google EVERY SINGLE TIME I OPEN THE APP. First off, the app isn't crashing. Second, it some thing to show this annoying pop up once, but come on, do you have to show it every single time I open the app. Epic QA failure here.

This app is great when it wants to work which is not most of the time. If I’m not on wifi and a Travis Scott song comes on, it won’t play and then I can’t go back into that playlist. ONLY happens with his songs. When I go to work and sign in, about every other time it won’t pull up my recently played or any other playlist. Doesn’t make sense because my browser is up to date and is connected to the internet. Pretty irritating amount of bugs for what could be a great app. And it would be cool if I could contact your help center instead of writing a review but the help center doesn’t work on safari or a PC 🤷🏻‍♀️

I usually love this app and have used it for several years, however I have a problem that with your app that frustrates me. The app is rather slow sometimes and when I want to edit a playlist and press done, the app changes the order of the songs and it’s rather frustrating. I hope you can fix this.

I’ve been using this app for 4 years. They used to have a built in equalizer, they took it out. And now all the top charts are filled with Asian rip offs of American artists songs. So the “top charts” section is now useless and I can’t find new music. Switching to Apple Music or YouTube music.

I have been using google music since forever but now the app gets stuck so much that it’s come to a point that I came to write this review, I hope a developer reads and does something about it. Sometimes the play button is turned on but the music is not playing, when it plays on google home, it’s not connecting instantly and again the play button gets stuck. I have open and close the app multiple times. Basically it’s not very seamless, especially the play/pause button. It is very very irritating. I have a paid subscription and would not like this kind of experience. Being a software developer myself, I can see many flaws with this app. Google is a big brand to have such problems leave alone major bugs.

So who thought it would be a great idea to force new unskippable video ads on an app that we’re using to listen to music? Do you realize we’re trying to put the phone in our pocket and move on? If you lock your phone the ad stops and you’ll never hear music. Good going guys, this used to be a halfway useable app, not even considering how much of a pain you made it to add your own music which is somehow still a thing. I’m always surprised how devs let annoyances continue in their app for years, it’s clear you don’t use it or don’t care much about it. Plenty of other options out there so why not polish this thing up?

One reason I stuck with Pandora so long was for the sleep timer. I learned Google Play Music had a sleep timer so I started using it more to fall asleep. However, recently I have found the sleep timer is malfunctioning with the pop up screen being blank on my phone instead of showing the hours and minutes and I have to guess how many times I turn the dial to choose 1 hr 1 minute. Sometimes I turn too far and have to stick with 2:01 because I can’t turn it back. Help fix this Google, I can’t find anywhere else to report a bug?!

I've been using this app on Android, iPhone and listen on a browser. I recently switched to dark mode on iOS and the app in dark mode is a little hard to use. If you create or edit a playlist the text is in white, but Sonos the field. Makes the text invisible. Could that app adjust to dark mode so that that doesn't happen.

I enjoy using google play but recently there’s been a bug with the sleep timer feature. It works and you can still set timers but you can’t see any of the numbers for how many minutes. I just scroll and hit done to see the time I picked lol. Kinda weird but it’s an issue. This has always been a thing for this app but I wish that the album covers were kept square instead of cutting off the sides to fit the screen. I’d rather have some white space or something than lose half of the album art, when that’s a super important thing to lots of artists.

I had almost no problems with this app on Android. But I’m starting to be disappointed in the IPhone version. I’ve had no problems until now, I’ll have the music playing and I’ll be on a different app then the music will just quickly fade away or constantly stop. One song even started in the music which really confused me and I can’t even change the volume without risking my hearing because it’s a minute late. Right now I’m thinking it might be better to just use my other phone for the music and delete this app on my IPhone.

The organization for the app is a bit confusing and feels less user friendly than other apps. There are multiple ways to navigate the app but can be confusing when you first start using it. It’s a good app, but I think alternative music apps are better. The main issue that I have is when I add songs to My Library, many of the recently released songs/albums end up getting deleted. Does anyone else have this issue? There’s no way for me of knowing which dogs were removed from my library until I end up searching randomly for that song because I want to listen to it. Not sure if it is a licensing issue of some sort, but it consistently happens to me. We have a family plan, and everyone on our plan has experienced the same thing. One of our users only had about 25 songs in their library, and after a month, it was reduced to 3 songs. If you have a large library of saved songs you like, you’ll never know it gets removed until you search for it. Personally, I like to just shuffle all my songs in My Library when I’m driving or working, so I never really know when songs get removed. But I occasionally wonder why certain songs don’t get played. I later discover why after I search for the song and see that it was removed from my library.

Keeping it short and sweet, the app works pretty well overall. The only issue I run into is with CarPlay and this app. While the music works fine, you can access all your playlists, etc., two bugs are present. The first is that it doesn’t always show my “Now Playing”. When I click on it sometimes it just sits there at the same screen and freezes, never going to now playing. If I reboot the Google Play Music app or the phone itself, then it usually fixes itself and shows the “Now Playing” screen with what Google Play Music is playing. The bigger issue, however, is whenever I am using the Google Play Music app I lose all functionality for Siri through CarPlay. The icon of Siri shows up if I activate it, but you can’t speak and have it recognize your voice. Once Siri “beeps” so you know to start talking, no matter what you say it doesn’t recognize your voice and just sits there. Then, it stops the voice input thing and goes right back to the song that was playing. It’s quite frustrating/annoying. The moment you leave the app and go into, say, Apple Music or something else it works fine. It’s only when you are using Google Play Music and music is playing. Please fix this and it goes to 5 stars :).
Incredibly buggy

Great service. Terrible iOS app. It fundamentally can't play music reliably even when the music is downloaded on the phone I.e. not streaming. The app's been buggy for some time. It used to be better but has steadily deteriorated. I waited patiently for this new release and the longer it took to arrive the more hopeful I was that they'd fix it but this release seems at least as bad as the last. For a company such resources this seems like an amateurish attempt at an iOS app. Or someone is trying to make it terrible on purpose so that I switch to Apple Music. I wonder what the product manager and QA team are up to when their app can't even play a song all the way through? Downloaded songs will stop playing even in offline mode - just today a downloaded song stopped 4 times. Again, these are songs that are on my phone not streaming. It's mostly a mystery why songs stop but at least some have to do with the radio environment. Any time the cellular radio switches mode or the phone switches to wifi the song stops. In NYC it's a busy radio environment with frequency cell handover, and forget using this app on the subway - even in "Dowwnload only" mode. On wifi at home it mostly works but that's not when I need it to work. My gramophone has that use case covered. Super disappointing that this release didn't address the long standing playback issues.
CarPlay Issues

Extremely glitchy with Google Play Music (and Siri). I have the paid subscription of Play Music, but the app in Apple Car Play will no longer display any information (playlists, songs, now playing, etc). It’s just a black screen (the music will play and I can see the songs only on MyLinks “iPod” screen, not Car Play). I tried uninstalling the app and resetting MyLink in my Silverado to default settings, while also manually disconnecting all services from each other. That did not fix the problem. I will also ditto some of the Siri complaints and take it a step further. If Siri isn’t properly prompted, it will freeze all volume controls in my Silverado including the volume knob and the steering wheel volume controls for my entire radio (not just Apple Car Play). Nothing will fix this issue until I am completely out of the car, turn it off, and come back at least 15 minutes later for me to get control over my radio back. This hasn’t yet happened to me on a “long drive” for more than an hour, but I’ve been stuck for at least half an hour in a frozen volume purgatory (can’t adjust up or down). Between Apple and Google, get your ish together. This is just embarrassing for both of you as multi billion dollar companies.

Play Music is and always will be the only music app I ever use. It’s always worked how it needs to and is simple to use, with great quality content. BUT, I don’t know if it’s just the iOS app, but it seems like it gets buggier after every update. I have a lot of problems when I’m trying to use the app with my google home. Most of the time it won’t even connect to it when I want to cast music. When I try to delete a song from a playlist, it instead deletes a different one that’s a couple songs up and the one I originally tried to delete stays there, and I can’t get rid of it. And something I noticed today, if I try to select ‘play next’ on a song while I’m listening to music, it stops the music completely and a whole other song from a completely different playlist is selected and shows up on the screen. AND now when I listen to a playlist on shuffle, it plays one song, and then the music stops after that and doesn’t continue playing the rest of the playlist. It seems like the more you try to fix something that doesn’t need fixing, the worse the app gets.

I used to love Google Play Music because it was free and easy, I had my usuals to listen to and I loved all the music that popped up. Perfect for what I use GPM for; driving, showers, and hair and makeup music. But, now there seemed to be a new update that has really messed everything up. Now when I play music after the first song it stops playing music until I open my phone and go to the app where it starts an ad. 😤 The least you can do is make sure the ads play seamlessly with the music while I’m driving. I thought maybe this was a glitch and after the first time it would just play like usual with the ads, but NO. With EVERY AD there is a stop in the music where I need to open my phone and the app in order to start the ad and then finally continue with the music. Why would you make the ads this way? You’re causing problems with your free listeners and why? Just to try to get them to buy your subscription? If I wanted to get a subscription I definitely wouldn’t choose GPM, especially if they keep this up. How does it look to make free listeners become distracted drivers just to try to get them to buy the premium? Or flood the bathroom while they try to fix their music? Stupid. FIX YOUR AD BUG!
Often CarPlay issues

I love the Play Music app way more than iTunes or Apple Music. I have use Google play and play music for a long time. But once I got a new vehicle with the CarPlay actually or feature the Google play music has quite often caused issues. Whether it was now playing this song or delaying to be pulled up in the app or stating there is not connection when trying to pull up playlist. Majority of the time I am using my actual phone to start play music from a playlist or simply the library. I have seen other reviews with the same response, so I know I am not the only one. I’m sure part of the reason is because I am using an Apple phone with google play music. But also using the CarPlay feature seems to support more iPhone features than Google features. Even still I would prefer to use Google play music rather than the Apple Music. Excited for when there has been and update sent out for this issue to be resolved. Honestly, this is the only reason for a 3 star rating. It’s pretty important! Removing that dilemma; EASILY A 5 STAR RATING.!.!

Okay, I’m still using this service. But, gotta say, this really sucked major time, and support was absolutely no help at all. Spent an eternity on the phone to be told there was nothing to be done except to download everything all over again. My library was emptied completely of all music except for one artist and one song by one other artist, which I consider completely unacceptable!!! I had a massive accumulation of music and I use music A LOT, for many things, including work and travel. Getting all my favorites again is going to take a lot of time and I’m really angry about this situation and how it was handled. I feel like reaching out for help was a waste of time, and even worse, if you’re going to offer a service, make sure that something this major DOES NOT HAPPEN. I understand technology has bugs, and I would have probably been more patient and understanding if they at least acknowledged the problem and were working on a solution, but I was essentially told that it was a situation they were not familiar with, and I was responsible for it myself. Really??!!??!!

Google Play Music has a great selection of tracks and radios stations to choose from, and should have more than enough to suit anyone’s musical tastes. Additionally, audio quality is not a problem, each song sounds crystal clear, despite being a given more often than not for music streaming services. However, there are many little nuances in the UI that bogs down the whole experience. Searching through menus feels choppy, and even delayed at times, as if the app as a whole is unoptimized for iOS. Even worse, is how power-hungry it is. Every time I open the app to switch to another album, or playlist, I find my phone lose several percent within minutes of just using it. However this power consumption issue does not occur during background use, thankfully. Overall, this app feels clunky, and no amount of UI changes, or additions will change that until Google fixes the optimization issues within the app. At best, the app works like any music-streaming service. At worst, it is a choppy, power-hungry mess that’s sure to frustrate any user.

I had this app on my phone, on my iPhone, while it was still in iOS app. Don’t ask me to remember the name of the app, I just remember receiving an email that it was going to be Google play as of January 1 and again don’t ask me what year it was either😊 I love the way Google play place through my speakers, while I’m in the car. I have a 2006 Honda Civic, so as you can imagine some of my speakers don’t work. But listening to this app, instead of fruit named applications, Google play definitely takes the cake. The only thing I would change is that, if you would just start the radio station with the person, persons, group, act whatever.... start the song someone is REQUESTING FIRST. They are requesting that SONG that particular TIME and for a PARTICULAR REASON (NEEDED it THEN)and most of the time, they don’t even get to hear the song the request that started the station.....!And that is a BUMMER!!

How does a company with so much smarts get this soooo wrong!! I don't want to listen to someone else's playlist or mix! The internet allows me to ditch radio--why else would I invest the time uploading the music I bought?? I suppose pushing new music to me is the deal you had to make with the record industry robber-barons. Ok, I'll cut you slack there. But I can't forgive this abysmal iPhone user interface. To be forced to scroll through those useless bubble images to find an artist is downright user-antagonistic! When I am looking at My Library, I can see a grand total of 4 artists or albums per screen. When I click an artist, I can only see the first two (2) of their albums because the top half of the screen is showing me a picture of the band it pulled from somewhere. I don't need pictures! Album covers are awesome when they are a foot square and made of real cardboard. They are decidedly not awesome when reduced to a postage stamp to fit on a 2" x 4" display. A simple text listing is all that is needed (think original iPod). It's faster and more elegant. Really hope someone is listening.
Better than Apple’s Version

This is the best music app out there currently, but it’s not without flaws. It has all kinds of bugs in CarPlay. For instance, when I try to access my downloaded playlists, it tells me “getting music,” and stays stuck there until I give up and access it through my phone. Also, songs regularly have interference, as if I was playing a scratched record, even though the songs have been downloaded (ie: it’s not due to poor streaming quality). Lastly, the font is so ridiculously small and there’s no way to change it because it’s not compatible with Apple’s software. Who’s fault that is,I have no idea—but it’s annoying. What I like about the app is that I can create radio playlist and then download them. This allows me to listen to tons of new music without having to pay to stream it. This is a feature Apple’s app doesn’t offer. I hope Google will further develop this app, although they don’t seem to push out updates very often.

This is really the only music app I use. I, personally, like how it works, but that's because I've been using it for years. It's not the same for a new user; the layout is easy to get confused with. I have had to deal with issues with deleting songs from my playlists. Trying to delete one song will delete the song one, two, sometimes even three songs above it. It comes and goes, but it's still a reoccurring problem that I've had for the longest time, and when it comes around, I often lose songs for good, because there's no way I could keep track of all 300 of them. And, though I have 300 songs, I may end up listening to some more than others because the Shuffle option isn't that great. Play Music is also pretty buggy-- the panels that come up for adding songs will sometimes jump across the screen. Speaking of, I do wish that there was an option to simply add a bunch of songs to a playlist all at once rather than one by one.

I’ve been insanely loyal to google play music for a good deal of years now, always thought the expense was worth every penny. But since switching to an iPhone it’s been an absolute nightmare. Even though I’m set up for reoccurring payments it keeps switching me to a free based account and completely deleting everything I’ve downloaded from the past few years from my library with no discernible way to get any of it back. Renewing my subscription was a serious task as no matter what I’d do to update or search through the app, it gave 0 ways to let me pay for a subscription! I do not own a computer so had to get a friend to lend me theirs. After double checking it would be a reoccurring payment, it turned out the next month the same thing happened and I’m traveling abroad and so have 0 access to a computer. Not only that I can’t even purchase individual albums or songs. Before this the app glitched and refused to download any new music, while I still had my subscription. Definitely going to switch to a different streaming service, this is ridiculous.

So i just got this app, and i think its amazing! But (this problem also might be because i just started using it) when i play songs and i “favorite” them or whatever they go into a playlist (obviously) so i thought if i did that to all the songs i want to listen to later i could just do that, but the problem is I can’t. It won’t let me hit the play button and if i hit the song, this thing comes up saying something like “do u want to start a radio with songs related to (insert songs title here)” but it won’t let me listen to the song i want. Secondly, when i go to the search bar thing to search for a select song, they come up as “radios” and not the song itself. All i want is to be able to search and find the song i want, “favorite it” and listen to it later. Other then that, its a really good app I recommend it!
It’s good generally but it crashes a lot

1) This app isn’t attractive in the way that other music platforms are. 2) It can be confusing the use when you first start. It’s not a very user-friendly interface 3) IT CRASHES A LOT. If I play a song and leave the app, it stops for a while then picks up again and stays okay as long as I don’t open the app again. If I do, the app crashes totally. Occasionally (like today) the songs kept breaking briefly (for about a second to three seconds at a time). This app has been crashing for almost as long as I’ve been using it. I got a new phone and things were good for almost three months and recently (a week or so ago), I had to start using that work-around where I don’t open the app a second time to avoid crashing. I honestly much prefer the web player. It’s more attractive and doesn’t crash.

Honestly, you guys have the best algorithm for finding similar musicians and the ability to have radio stations based off a single song is pretty awesome, but come on guys you’re one of the largest tech companies in the world and you don’t updated your app in over 3 months. There’s more than enough bugs to warrant an update. For one, I can’t even stream from this app to my Chromecast audio. It just never works. Also for whatever reason half of my thumbs up playlist disappears mid-stream when I go from Wi-fi to LTE. I have feeling that this has to do with beef with Apple, but honestly that’s no excuse. I pay for a premium membership and seemingly simple problems like this should be fixed. Also an Apple TV app would be nice or at least have the ability to display album artwork when streaming would be appreciated.

I love this app and have been paying the $10 for about 4 years now. I feel it’s the best app available and worth the money. Only issue I have is when I change music in playlist or radio, It keeps skipping songs and I have to go back 3-4 times because it keeps trying to skip until I get message prompting me to “try again” then it works. It gets annoying when I’m just surfing for something good. It’s not my service cuz I have full bars and internet and still a problem. I’m sure it has to do with buffering and streaming and not being downloaded but it does get old!! Other than that.. the app itself has all the music I need and want! I always suggest google play!

Google Play music is cool cuz i like the radio stations they have. I like that u can see the song play lists on the radio stations. This way there’s no mystery as to what’s coming up. You can play different types of stations depending on your moods, what you’re doing, genre of music etc. u can move songs around in the song queue, forward songs, repeat songs, go back to songs. There’s NO ads. No junk. No BS. I also like when i play it on my iPad and i can see the actual album real big on the screen. My only gripe is sometimes they have certain albums there and the next day u look it’s gone for no reason. Aside from that Google Play works great on my phone and my iPad. I highly recommend it!!!

Love the app in general works well most the time, but many times when trying to play music of my phone to my google home group in the house, it will kick the BT connection off and not allow a connection, i have fixed this issue temp. By deleting the app and reinstalling, but it happens randomly, the other on is just a preference thing, all the YT thumbs up symbols are on the right and thumbs down is on the left except this app, and it throws me off, when i hit the TD button instead of TU. Also on the phone its much easier to click TU on the right considering u mostly have the phone held one handed. Thanks for all the other updates across all your platforms, The Goliath company has become one of my favorites, specially after the google Home, i have one is every room. Update: Had to bring it down to one star, as all my songs are Gone from my playlists. This is unacceptable for such a company as google.

I’ve had play music for quite a few months and I’ve finally had it with the app. I can’t count the amount of times the app has told me that I can’t play this song right now or had deleted songs random from albums. It’s also a very feature poor app, seriously I have a 256 gig iPhone with 200 gigs free and cloud photo storage... why do I have to click download for every album I want to have offline and then still have to deal with playback issues. On top of the feature issues my library is nearly unusable because it was “auto organized” which destroyed my folder structured music library. Not convenient when you listen to a lot of obscure edm artists. Seriously google it’s 2019 and you can’t deliver a better product than my 10 year old iPod classic... guess I need to go back to rock box since iTunes is just as bad.

It’s a good music app! Can download for offline and all the yada-yada. But there are 3 things that annoy me: 1) Sometimes I’ll download a single from an album but then a little while later download the whole album. It doesn’t download the single(s) I already download and instead creates separate albums; 1 for the singles and 1) for the rest of the album. So I have the same album separated into 2 separate albums. 2) NEED to filter out the censored content. C’mon now! Nothing worse than listening to the censored version except maybe unknowingly downloading the censored version and being unable to fix it 3) This is perhaps the most annoying, but when I delete songs from a playlist, it won’t delete the song I swipe to delete. It will delete either the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd song above the song I select. It completely baffles me

This app I deleted off my phone. I got this app so I could stream my music offline. I was going on a trip, the trip was about a two hour long ride. I downloaded the app to stream my music, and I searched up a song I liked. The problem was I went under all categories I could find and couldn’t fine my music. All I could find was radio stations. I found this app from my friend who owns a Samsung and already had this app on her phone. I own a IPhone 6+ and decided that I would try this app. It sounded good because my friend and I would listen to the music together. The music played fine and she had tons of music on there. That is why I downloaded it. I don’t have the app anymore. I am going to try the app again, but I’m sure it still won’t work. Still a great app for Samsung’s.

This app is my preferred method of streaming music but it is not elegant or refined at all. For example, album artwork does not fit the screen, it is zoomed for some reason when you’re playing a song from that album which just looks weird. There is a playlist of songs recently added to your library however no matter how many songs i’ve just added, the playlist never updates. Songs have randomly disappeared from my library. Some songs stop/start playing halfway through, others don’t play at all. I think some added features could be useful, such as the ability to look up lyrics. I have nothing to compare this app to because i’ve never used another streaming service but I’d say this could definitely be improved upon.

I came here to listen to certain songs in particular, but after looking it up, all I got was the radio version which only features songs that are different from it. You can’t see all the songs and the picking is random so if you like a song, you’d better hit the button because you probably won’t see it again in your life. And for some reason you can’t get to your song in it’s playlist because it only gives you a tiny bit of skips before you can’t use anymore without their paywall. And the worst part is if you want it on loop, better choose a better app because they don’t have loop. The similar song thing is good but if you want a better review, add loop and the ability to listen to singular songs and maybe a gaming section on the home screen. And I don’t just mean behind your little paywall, I mean for everyone to use, like music apps should do.

I absolutely love this music player. I’ve been using it for years. It’s the only music player that I can put literally any song that I download on it. It can hold up to 50,000 songs, which is incredible because I have so many songs that I want to download but other music players just don’t hold more than 100. The only thing is I wish that the shuffler was better. I have so many songs on it, yet I still feel like it repeats songs over and over again. I’ve had some songs on the app for awhile that it has never played once and others that it has played like 10 times. The app overall is amazing. I just hope they can fix the shuffling problem.

I love this app and I use it all the time( only during the day) but lately I haven’t in over a month at night. Not because I don’t like it. But I like to use the sleep timer almost every night. But I haven’t been able to use it. As soon as I click the settings and then sleep timer there no numbers on the screen for me to scroll down. It only have a zero. Hope u can fix this problem. My sister also has this problem. Shes like me. We like to listen to music tell we fall asleep. That’s why I love this app. It has a sleep timer, so I don’t have use the app the whole night and It turns off when I set the sleep timer.

Edit few versions later: And this app is still being stupid, like nothing seems to be going right still no album work, it’s mind blowing that there is no album work even offline. This app used to be great, can’t lie I’m thinking of making the switch to Apple Music,I wonder if there app will be better than googles Old review- Still no fix, even updated the iOS 11, Well the app seems to no longer work properly, I can deal with most bugs but this one bothers me like no other. So when playing songs offline there seems to be a issue with viewing the album art while offline, it shows up just with a gray background but when I kick on the wifi the art comes back, even tried restoring my iPod and bam its the same issues all over again. Must be the app, also the files are playing are all offline. Google get to together.

I am a huge fan of the product moreso than the app. Having all of this great music at your fingertips is a blessing and at times a curse (how many playlists can one person create???) I find the one standout thing that bothers me most about this app (because it happens SO frequently) is the constant crashing. Start adding an album to your library and the app lags, if a song is playing it starts skipping, then app freezes and you must close to reboot. If a song is playing and you go to the search, it will sometimes freeze up and crash. Please perfect this app, find what is causing it to crash so often and eliminate it. Google Play Music is such an awesome service, but it becomes an issue when the app won't let you play it without incident.
Music Always Stops Playing

I want to like this app because of the features to have your own library plus access to streaming music that isn’t in your own collection. The problem is that many others have said already is the app CONSTANTLY stops playing music for no reason at all. This will happen regardless of what is going on. It can be a saved music file on your phone. It can be streaming when you have WiFi. It can happen all the time. And it does. This app is very glitchy and has scroll problems as well. The service itself is great and when using on a computer I have not experienced issues but this app is borderline useless unless you are ok with constantly hitting the pause/play button to try to get your music playing again. Crazy how Google can’t seem to get an app working that with a subscription costs $10 a month.
Duplicates

My main gripe would be that duplicates of almost every album in my library appear. Sometimes in multiples of 5. This makes my library crazy unorganized. There are also many instances where complete albums are split into 2 albums. Fix these long standing issues and I may give you guys another try. ( update ) Here we are almost a year later and the duplicate album issue is still there. Why, and how can they not have fixed this by now? I’ve read on some Google Official help forums where mods want to place the blame on apple. If that’s the case then why isn’t this an issue with any other music app? I’ve tried them all. I’m using the app only because I have a large music library tied to it. I’m not happy about it at all though. My customer satisfaction level on the app itself is 0.
Problematic

As of the current build, I cannot integrate the player with the built in controls on my iPhone. When I swipe up to control playback, my player is not available. Music will be playing, but I can not pause or skip. The same can be said for controlling playback on my headphones. This was not a problem with the previous build(s) I had installed. Dev Request: create a better way to report issues with the catalog. I had an instance where the names of the songs were correct, but the actual track played was incorrect. Feature request: create a way to do favorite album lists instead of having to add whole albums. Not sure how to articulate this, but it’d be nice to have a top 10 albums list to share.

Google Play- I want to love you, but you need to be fixed. I have been a loyal user of Google Play Music since it’s inception (or whenever it swallowed Songza) I love the interface, but it’s incredibly buggy. I purchased a subscription hoping that this would eliminate the glitches from using the free ad version where the music wouldn’t start after an ad played etc. The straw that broke the camel’s back was a particular Geico ad that would not only stop the music, but send my phone into some weird zombie state where I would have to hold one of the side buttons to wake it up and then close the window Geico had conveniently opened up for me in Safari. Very, very annoying. Now that I’ve chosen to make Google my subscription based music streaming platform of choice, you’d think it would work more seamlessly, especially considering the heavy competition. I certainly didn’t face any issues like this with Apple Music and I am starting to regret my decision to switch over. Now, to my current gripe- this app can’t seem to stop glitching when I bring it up from the background to say, change the station, etc. Google should be able to deliver a seamless experience to paying users. Maybe they’re taking customers like me for granted.

I love the fact that I can access my songs from anywhere with Google Play Music, however this is diminished by the fact that whenever I’m connected to Bluetooth or chromecast, skipping songs is a nightmare, even with a fast internet connection. The app stutters and randomly pauses my music and sometimes skips more than one song. Also, when changing songs, it temporarily stops playing audio to the Bluetooth device even though the song is definitely playing. These functions work normally when using headphones or just playing on the phones built in speaker. So, overall, a useful app, but needs some fine tuning in Bluetooth, skipping, and smooth playback.

I have been using google music since forever but now the app gets stuck so much that it’s come to a point that I came to write this review, I hope a developer reads and does something about it. Sometimes the play button is turned on but the music is not playing, when it plays on google home, it’s not connecting instantly and again the play button gets stuck. I have open and close the app multiple times. Basically it’s not very seamless, especially the play/pause button. It is very very irritating. I have a paid subscription and would not like this kind of experience. Being a software developer myself, I can see many flaws with this app. Google is a big brand to have such problems leave alone major bugs.
Give me the option in app to keep the screen unlocked during playback

Phone used to stay unlocked when app was open playing music and i had a charging cable attached when i was still on ios 10 but i finally gave in and updated to ios 12 and the fundamentals of the app changed. This is dangerous for drivers who stream off of their phones and have to unlock the phone now to see the song currently playing. The only way to keep the display on now is to go into the ios settings and having to set the screen yo stay unlocked unless manually locked (which is not possible if you used touchid and applepay on the phone) I want the feature similar to how google maps keeps the phone unlocked while navigating back. Pre ios 11 and 12.
Really annoying bug

So the app works fine. I love the google play service. Had it for years. But with this most recent I’ve noticed an incredibly annoying bug. Whenever I’m trying to edit the queue to shift songs around, the app crashes. And sometimes if I try to add something to my queue via the “play next” feature, mainly with radios, it’ll add the song to the queue, but it won’t be next. It’ll add it to the top of the queue. Which means the song won’t play in the radio. Also it won’t let me move when I try to edit the queue because it’ll crash if I do. Please fix this. It’s my favorite music app and this kinda makes it annoying to use.

Google play music is great as an app by itself. The radio station and playlist has some of the best recommendations. Compared to Its competitors this really lacks with Apple Car Play. If you hear a song you like you can’t thumbs up or add it to your library through Apple Car Play. Also, the Car Play is very buggy it freezes on almost every trip. The music still plays but I’ll usually have to force close the app on my phone and restart for it to show on Car Play. Sometimes even restarting the app doesn’t work so just have to deal with no Car Play. If Car Play worked as intended, and have better user functionality to add music to the library this would be 5 Stars.

Google needs to step it up and redesign the Google Play Music app for Apple devices. I have been a subscriber for over 3 years and paying my $9.99 and I have been tempted to switch to Apple Music but I tend to use Google Play Music because I have all my playlists on here established. Google Play Music needs to be more stable on Apple devices. It does not plat music or any type of song I pick sometimes, it does not show lyrics like Apple Music does, and Google Play Music also lags quite a bit. The Sleep Time is also not convenient to get to. You have to go into the settings and set it where as with Apple Music it’s just there with a swipe up. Once Google redesigns Google Play Music or at LEAST makes me much more stable and user friendly for Apple Devices... then I will change this review to a 5 star.

Seems like more and more often I’m trying to listen to songs on here and get the “Can’t play right now, try again later” error. Hmm google, every other song on this album is playing fine right now, why can’t you play this one? And once it decides it doesn’t wanna play a song, no refreshing the app or reconnecting to data will solve the issue, it’s like the app refuses to even try and load it again. Been a google fan for years but this is making me look into other options, if I’m paying to hear music I expect to be able to listen to the songs I want to hear. Edit - seriously I can’t even play one song now, full connectivity, WiFi working fine, but google play just flat out isn’t working. “Can’t play right now.” Why am I paying you fools? Canceling now.

I’d say this app has been abandoned if it weren’t for periodic useless bug fixes, but they come in every couple months. They made a “good enough” update back when the iPhone X came out and just have made little patches to make it work on the modern ones. There’s still flickering near the notch, search button doesn’t work if it’s near the notch, and still many features and presentation are just not available like they are on other phones. I know iOS isn’t Google’s main priority and all, but this is a paid service that your customers are forced to have a lack luster experience. You could at least provide updates for simple bugs that have been there for going on two and a half years.
Google Pause Music

They should call it Google Pause. Unfortunately this music app has a lot of finicky bugs—never syncs properly with Microsoft Sync in the car; almost always crashes now when playing a song and the app is opened to either change the song or ‘like’ or ‘unlike’ a song. If you’re using Google Maps in tandem with the music app (like a road trip), the two hate each other and LTE will become bogged down trying to stream data to the two, resulting in either a phone crash or app crash, or both. Too many issues to actually enjoy listening to melodies. The biggest issue faced is the music freezing every time you open the app, switch to a different app, or are entertaining guests.

The paid version of Google Play is phenomenal. They create great playlists and they remember what you like to listen at certain times of the day or on certain days of the week. I find this app easier to navigate than Apple Music also. Even when you close the app, it saves the last song you were listening to to. Apple Music doesn’t do this. It’s a huge advantage for me lol. I just wish I could say “Hey Siri, play...” and she would open Google Play. That’s the only draw back when using the app from iPhone.
Frustrating

There's a lot I love about Google Music: I love the organization, stations, "playing near you" feature, etc., but none of that matters much with the fact that hundreds of songs disappear daily from my Thumbs Up library. I'm pretty serious about my music and I've been cultivating this list for a few years, so to have it drain away every time I open the app is disheartening to say the least. To be fair, if I uninstall and reinstall the app, all my music comes back, so it hasn't completely disappeared into the ether (whew!), but who honestly has the time/inclination to go through all that every time they want to hear some music? I'd recommend finding another app. Everything about this one is great, but this is a big enough problem to take your business elsewhere.

First off I love the variety of radio stations available. This app probably has the most sub-genres compared to other apps. Audio quality is also very good. I would love to be able to download single songs and not entire albums. Sure, I could make a playlist and download it later. But I feel like that's an unnecessary extra step or two. Why not just have the download option available for each track like most other apps offer? Unfortunately, this one lacking feature is enough for me to unsubscribe to the paid service. If they offer this in the future, I might come back to this app
