Can’t get rid of this thing!!!!
by Blue😇Angle on 2019/12/06 01:11
I downloaded it for my 4 year old and 7 year old because I rather them do something educational if they are gonna play on the phone but after a couple days they said they didn’t wanna play it. I’ve been trying to get rid of it since day 3. I e been getting charged every month and my children didn’t play it for more than just a couple days. I called Apple and they said I have to deal with the app directly! I just wanna cancel this subscription and get my money back!
Good but glitches
by BenandBrooksmom on 2019/12/05 19:06
Every now and then the app glitches but otherwise it’s a great app to use with homeschooling
Shady

My daughter is in kindergarten and we were having a really hard time with letter recognition and sounds. She’s been using it for a week and is already able to write the letters I ask!! I didn’t think this app was going to work but it really does! We will be keeping it for her and my youngest.
Best reading app
by merlin susan on 2019/11/25 16:38
My son was struggling on his reading so I got another app. He didn’t learn anything from it so I downloaded this app and he can read after a week. Love this so much. My 2 year old used and loves it. I did have to cancel the subscription due to my internet connection it just wouldn’t work and load one day not really sure why. Really wish I could use it but I can’t get it to load for a few weeks now.
App no longer working!
by Hhbb113 on 2019/11/23 10:08
We love homer! My daughter loves going on her iPad and doing her « schoolwork ». She uses it typically daily as a form of her homeschooling and gets a set amount of screen time just for homer. Until about a week or so ago and still to this day! The app no longer works on any device. We have reset multiple different devices, removed and re-downloaded the app on different devices and NOTHING works. The app just sits in a « loading » screen before you even get to choose what child is playing. It doesn’t load EVER no matter how long we let it sit. It isn’t our internet because everything else works just fine! I am very disappointed by this and hope it gets fixed soon because my daughter has not been happy without her homer, and on top of it- I am paying for something that cannot even be used right now!
Love this app, but...

My son loves this app, but it will not open on my new iPhone 11. Otherwise a great app!
AMAZINGLY AWESOME
by Ken.ology on 2019/11/22 00:52
I have 3 children and it’s personalized to meet each of their needs. It’s absolutely AWESOME. Highly recommend Homer over any other learning app we’ve tried.🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Love the app but...
by emmy2002us on 2019/11/21 19:16
I wish they would tie the stories, stickers, and ang art activities that are located in the side menu to be come by parents or required to unlock through levels of play and requires 15 minutes or certain parent set increments to access. My child passes the learning timeline and goes straight for the stickers and play art area and she can’t be left alone to do her own work because of this.
Can’t Uninstall
by asodswan on 2019/11/19 14:00
I’ve deleted and uninstalled this app several times in an attempt to stop paying for it. My daughter doesn’t use it anymore so I no longer need to pay for it, however I’m still getting charged every month. Don’t download this app if you don’t want your card being charged forever!
Can’t even log in
by Nubem88 on 2019/11/19 01:59
I would love to use it to help my son learn to ready as the reviews are great, but I can’t even log in. It keeps giving me an error.

Doesn’t load
by AmberLinaa on 2019/11/14 15:55
I got this app for my almost 3 year old to try out. I would have loved to see him use it but it never loads after you click the play button.. it stays on an endless loading screen. I believed this app would’ve been great but unfortunately it is getting deleted. Hopefully, this bug is fixed and we can try again.
Send a patch please
by DerkGK on 2019/11/14 03:50
My son has been loving this and getting him to sit and enjoy something is pretty tough. The reason for the bad rating is that he is about 8 letters in and the game is glitching and not allowing him to click the next stage. We have exited, killed the app, WiFi on and off, and clicked on other things that work, but the “T” stage after “n” and “let’s draw” will not work. We are stuck. And what’s worse is when you kill the app it restarts him at the beginning even though he’s done it four times now.

by leatherneck10 on 2019/11/13 19:56
Grandaughter really likes this but it’s listed under the free category yet it won’t let her play unless I pay. Unfortunately I can’t afford to pay these prices for “free” apps. So its a no go. Really like your app though!
Great for our 4 year old

Just downloaded it and it keeps asking for age verification. We keep entering it just to get back to the same page.
Great
by swsarar on 2019/11/11 22:13
I love the app, my kid loves the App. However, I wish it would make him complete a lesson or two before he is able to go straight to stories and games. He has stopped his progress on learning new letters to sing along to his favorite songs on it. 😂😭😅
Do not recommend
by Chloes mom0989 on 2019/11/07 16:41
I downloaded this app for my 4 year old. She absolutely loved it, but unfortunately it would never let me restore my purchase on our iPad so she could continue with her learning path. It also was very glitchy. There was many time we would have to close the app & start all over. Almost every time I sign in. It makes me sign in twice. I think this app would be amazing if all the glitches get worked out. I have canceled my subscription due to my daughter not being able to continue because it just loads after it says my purchase was restored, but it never actually restores.
Cancelled...still got billed.
by TammyB2019 on 2019/11/06 21:08
I cancelled this app...still got charged for it. I cancelled it during the free trial. Very sketchy. So much for cancel anytime.
Issues on Apple
by Ging3rd on 2019/11/06 20:18
IOS 13.2 Crashes after 1st use and I have to delete and reinstall. I’m starting to think it’s an Apple issue. A lot of my apps crash before they get a chance to open. This is the only one I can get started again after reinstalling.
Don’t waste your time or money
by YouThinkYouKnowButYouDont on 2019/11/06 14:17
I have to say I was not impressed with this app. It was as basic as reading consonants from a book. Also, the app required me to sign in every time even though it was downloaded on my phone as well as having to input my child’s information every time. I paid $20.99 for three months and want a refund.
App freezes, or no response
by frankie mendoza on 2019/11/05 23:38
Now I remember why I uninstalled this app in the first place. It freezes after a while and we have to back out and restart. I had downloaded this app almost a year ago for my son and now my daughter is on it but it’s still has the same issues.

Only a handful of things work. I love the learning path but only 2 stories from the entire Practice portion work. Very disappointing to this Kinderteacher. I’m thankful I didn’t purchase for all 8 iPads in my classroom.
A great app, but needs fixing!
by She'sALeo on 2019/11/01 09:50
My 2 yr. old loved it and I think the app has great potential, but for some odd reason the videos wouldn’t load. I bought the app, but had to delete it because it didn’t function properly. Please fix it so that I can download and purchase it again and give it a better rating. Thank you!
Not loving it.
by Dnaielle356 on 2019/10/31 00:52
I am having trouble getting my son on the correct level. The limited questions they ask in the beginning, to assess skill level are not matching up with my sons current academic level. Also, switching from the app to the computer version has been incredibly frustrating, as his progress will not save, and he has to constantly redo the same lessons. I will not be renewing my subscription. ABC mouse is more user friendly.

It’s hard to cancel membership. Beware
by notfumny on 2019/10/26 17:42
I got the app and didn’t read the fine lines. For some reason I had difficulty creating an account. But kept giving me an error message. Yet I have been billed the whole time that I have not been able to use the app. From what I can figure, perhaps O cannot create an account because I am not the child’s parent. (I am grandma). I want to cancel but had to really look for how to do it in the fine print. First step is you have to email the support staff, which I just did. Now I’ll see what mess I have to go through to cancel. I am not very computer literate so this has not been a pleasant experience for me. I wish there was a simple cancel button to tap to cancel this membership. I guess the more complex the company can make it to cancel, the fewer people cancel and they can keep billing them. I am not pleased with this app at all.

Confidence and learning
by ccgyuj on 2019/10/26 01:33
Screen time has always something I’ve dreaded dealing with as my daughter got older but now at 2.5 she knows all her letters and is growing more confident and excited about learning and problem solving and I know that part of the success has been Homer reading! She begs to play her learning path and exclaims I’m good at this! And even when she gets frustrated she’s challenged to continue and learn and is so gratified when she succeeds. I love it and suggest it to everyone that asks! I’m always Leary of paid apps, especially for kids, but this has been fair more than worth it!
Very boring
by LynandPax on 2019/10/25 23:18
The “listening” lessons were really long and drawn out. The power words were just strange and had nothing todo with the lessons, me and my son lost interest very fast. I’m glad it was a free trial
Good app but lost kids progress
by RLJLW on 2019/10/25 02:25
My child had fun playing the game but was super frustrated because the app lost her progress that she worked so hard to achieve. I’ve emailed support but have not heard back yet.
Won’t load on iPad and won’t record on laptop
by SFortino on 2019/10/22 21:26
I hate your product I am so thankful I only have a free trial. This product is causing so much frustration for my child as it won’t ever load on our iPad and blames our internet connection which is perfectly fine. So we switched to the laptop and it won’t record even though it indicated that it is and if I navigate away from the window she has to start all over again. Don’t waste your time on a product that is unreliable. I’m a technology educator and I will not be recommending this product to my school nor to the families who ask for app recommendations for their child/children.

by JakeG921 on 2019/10/19 04:50
I had an ongoing monthly subscription to Home my kid loved it. Come to find out the app updated and logged us out. I tried logging back in and it said the password was wrong so I did forgot password on the only two emails I use and was prompted with an error that my email doesn’t exist. I’m not sure how many months Homer took me for but if you do purchase the subscription check the app often so you don’t get screwed like I did.

I love the app, WHEN it works. For several weeks now, as my daughter is learning, the app quits working. She cannot tap on her next section, and resetting the app does nothing to correct the issue. Our app IS up to date, but this issue still occurs. It happens with both my husbands phone as well as mine. Our devices are both new and work perfectly with other apps. Hopefully the developers will correct this bug. Other than that, I love the app for my 3 year old daughter.
Absolutely love the new look!
by Gavin’s Mom on 2019/10/10 14:42
The app looks so polished now, and it’s still got all the same learning value?!?! Amazing. Really thankful to have found Homer!
Too many glitches
by Zoeymedina on 2019/10/08 04:01
This app has glitched one too many times for me and I have finally given it up and canceled my subscription. Four times now my children’s entire profile and progress have just disappeared. It’s beyond frustrating to build and unlock a pathway and then sign in and see it just gone as if they have never played. My kids like playing but they have gotten so upset when they have had to start all over. I can’t take it anymore.

Used to be great
by D-Singleton on 2019/10/03 20:22
I have upgraded this review because the company has responded to my complaints and fixed a double billing error. I still think they have made a mistake with their most recent changes, which downgraded the best part of the app, the learn to read part, in exchange for upping with an impractical pathway along with other aspects that are well done in other apps.

Not a fan!!!! It doesn’t work correctly!!!
by Jazmin Navarro on 2019/10/03 02:07
I downloaded the app to try the free trial before I buy because the reviews were great but it’s completely not working. It won’t let my daughter finish a game because she can’t finish a game. For example, in the cake game, she has to put the pictures in order but she can’t because it won’t let her see all the pics so she’s stuck. I first thought that the screen was locked and I needed to get it on landscape mode but it’s not the case - it won’t even turn on its own to the landscape after unlock the screen. I’m so unbelievably disappointed. I hope the developers read this and give me answers!!!
Pathway disappeared ...
by rbinME on 2019/10/02 20:26
Can someone help me please. We’ve been using this all summer. Suddenly our pathway home screen is gone. When I open the app, it’s a white background with a play button icon. When I press it, we start on the pathway where we left off but we can’t do anything else. I’m afraid to delete and reinstall because we have done a lot and I don’t want to start over. Please help me figure this out, thanks!
Unusable
by JimmyNate2.0 on 2019/10/01 13:33
The content does not fit on the screen. It spans far off the right edge as if it thinks the phone is a pad. My child is unable to use the app at all as a result. This is unacceptable for any app but absolutely ridiculous for an app with an $8/month subscription. Negative reviews indicate ongoing billing problems after cancellation of subscription.
Subscription needed...
by Artixon on 2019/09/30 22:38
Please add “SUBSCRIPTION NECESSARY” to use app. Don’t try to scrape information from users and THEN ask for their money to continue. Bad business. Will take my money to a different app.

Continually charged.
by Julie_m_h on 2019/09/21 13:28
I paid a yearly fee a few months back and now I’m getting billed through my Apple Account because they have no records of payment because it was through the developer. Honestly it was so glitchy and would freeze so I would spend more time trying to help my 4 year old twins than actually playing that I haven’t opened it up in almost two months. So, I’m pretty bummed. The teacher in me loved the phonemic awareness that it was trying to work on, which is why I purchased hoping it would stop freezing or taking my kids back to the beginning. But now that I’m paying AGAIN and for a monthly higher price, I’m REALLY disappointed and feeling like it was a dishonest system.
Learning done right.
by Canoodle1234567 on 2019/09/20 02:16
My son is not interested in learning letters/reading. This has engaged him with fun simple learning games that are mixed with creative games in just the right amount. He loves them. Also, the way it’s set up forces him to do the things he’s not as interested in to do the games/activities in the next level he is interested in. He went from refusing to attempt drawing letters to being excited he accomplished one on his own in about a (of playing every other day) week. Much better than other learning apps because it’s not too busy and keeps kids on a path that they are forced to learn on. I’m thankful for it. I had to force him to play mouse but he asks to play this!
What’s up with the latest release?
by suupastaarz on 2019/09/18 03:29
Deleted all our progress and profiles so we have to start over from scratch! Won’t advance in the pathway even after completing levels. I expect more from a game that charges this much per month.

Constantly changing the UI
by Ryan Burgess on 2019/09/15 14:58
I’m not sure if the app is trying to A/B test new user experiences but they aren’t doing it effectively at all. If you force quit the app you get a new UI. One that’s not going to be effective for reading data on an A/B test, but also having a toddler trying to navigate multiple user experiences in a day is a lot to ask. I’d love to see the app do some user testing when a child starts to get angry when they can’t navigate. If this was not a paid subscription I wouldn’t expect as much, but considering the price for the monthly subscription, I expect so much more.
Amazing App!
by Special Education Teacher 2019 on 2019/09/11 15:38
I work with a young child who is in a fifth grade self contained classroom. He has autism and is learning how to read sight words. The use of the sight word games on this app are especially helpful through the use of repetition and multimodal features. He is mastering eight words better than before thanks to Homer. He stays engaged and has a smile on his face while using the app. He is able to navigate the app and he loves the memory games!! HOMER is worth the money I’d recommend this for any teacher who works with students in a special education classroom or general education classroom. — MSEd.
Can’t cancel
by Amann01 on 2019/09/11 12:15
I downloaded the free trial to this app but my child didn’t play it. There isn’t anything wrong with it, it looks like a great app, it’s just not something my son will play. I tried to cancel the app under manage subscriptions and it gives three options. None of which are to cancel. So now I’ve been charged for a month and I still can’t cancel it. Seems scammy. I’ve had many subscriptions through the App Store and they always have the option to cancel.

My son loved his Homer app. He played with it all the time but with the recent updates some of his favorite things were removed, he (we) could no longer find his favorite stories and music. Give the parent and child what they want!
by Creatuvehands on 2019/08/29 13:19
I appreciate that this program offered a 1 month free trial. I had been interested but afraid to try. Now I see Homer is absolutely worth the monthly rate. My son loves electronics, of course. And I always try to limit them for all the behavior and health reasons pediatricians warm us about. This app lets my son play electronic games while building his kindergarten reading skills! I love that when setting up, the app prompts some questions to ascertain where your child should start, so that the games are not too advanced nor too basic for where they are! This app has given us both something we want and we both enjoy it!

Can’t contact support
by Amrie367 on 2019/08/26 22:00
I need to cancel the accelerometer on my phone is broken and won’t let me change the orientation so my son can see all the characters. When I go to support it says I don’t have an email on file. It’s plainly seen on the profile. So I try to give it a new email in the update profile and it won’t take it. I need to cancel!!
Great time with Homer
by Ruby and Bruno on 2019/08/26 20:14
My 7 year old granddaughter and 5 year old grandson enjoy Homer very much. They never want to stop using it when time is up and the activities are age appropriate. I’m very glad I have this app since school starts tomorrow and I know we can use this site to reinforce and practice what they will learn. Thank you for a valuable instructional app!
Great for toddlers not 7-8 year olds
by hiottba on 2019/08/24 14:51
The learning path seemed way off, my son is 7 and behind in reading (mid 1st grade instead of 2nd grade level) wanted to find an app that would help interest him in reading but his learning path had him matching lowercase and uppercase letters he didn’t make it through the first game before he was telling me how boring it was and begging to do anything else... was really optimistic since it mentioned it was for children up to 8 years of age, but I just can’t see how it is unless the older kids are only meant to use the books and there are other apps at the same price point that offer many more books if that’s all he is utilizing.
Doesn’t load
by b ranae on 2019/08/21 22:10
This is the second time I’ve tried using this app to help teach my kids to read. The first time i tried it 4 years ago it didn’t load up and glitches out when it did and today I downloaded it again because I have 3 more learning to read and I have spent 2 hours trying to get this stupid app to load up and it won’t. It took 45 minutes to finally get it to log in on a computer and it just absolutely will not load up on my other computer, none of my iPads, and it loaded on my phone once. Junk app.
Constant issues shutting down
by oisell on 2019/08/18 22:37
I tried this app for my children on multiple devices both iOS and android and continuously had problems with the app freezing or just shutting down completely. When I contacted the developer (multiple times) all they did was ask me what devices I was using which I had already given them the information about but still replied without getting any support info from them. they never had a response for me. Complete waste of money in my mind. How can a child learn from a program that is constantly freezing or shutting down in the middle of a learning segment. When I canceled my subscription it’s stated I would still have access to the app and use of the app through the end of my paid subscription. Which is for another nine days but immediately upon cooking the cancellation button the app will not work for my child it keeps saying we have to pay for a subscription to continue. Find an app that supports their customers - not this one
Great app! Better customer service
by Devrh on 2019/08/18 02:12
Great app until the recent update. Crashed constantly, I tried uninstalling & reinstalling the application and still wouldn’t load. Contacted service and they were great at resolving my issue in a timely matter. My daughter loves this app and is only 20 months and learned to identify letters and colors. Everyday she says a new word! Definitely worth every penny.

Trash App with new design
by EZ4BZ on 2019/08/16 19:51
I am so sad to write this review. HOMER used to be the best app on the market for learning to read. But their recent overhaul has changed it from pure treasure to total trash. It doesn’t save your child’s progress anymore nor does it have an easy to use path and learning system. My daughter (4 1/2) used to be able to run this herself when on road trips in the car. Now she has no idea where her next lesson is so she has to have an adult with her at all times. It’s not that I mind doing the app with her, but it’s frustrating that they made this LESS user friendly by a landslide. Praying they go back to the old system soon. Currently this is a complete waste of money.
Games take up too much time
by Fandango85 on 2019/08/16 13:50
I've been trying to sit down with my child to do these together but as soon as the "tell the story" activity comes up she spends all her time doing that. I understand the value of using pictures to guide her imagination and that story telling is a skill she should learn but she's not telling the story, she's just treating it like stickers and it's very distracting and time consuming. The drawing game too. If it would come up less often them it could be more of a reward for completing a module. As it stands this is just a waste of our time and I'm going to invest in other reading apps. Maybe if there was a time limit to these it would be better. Or give us some way to disable them. Also it bothers me that the instruction is so rigid about how to draw the letters. Maybe this is important for some reason unknown to me but I think there are multiple ways to draw letters and it is frustrating that she can't do it the way she knows how.
MOM&2YR OLD APPROVED!!!
by StormiiFoxx on 2019/08/13 22:53
My daughter loves to learn and she loves how there is always different learning activities randomly. I’m happy to find something very simple to use as I am vision impaired and I require to use zoom to help her be able to use the app which that does get annoying if everything is all over the place and I need to read them but HOMER is so simple that I don’t need to have to read the activities. I recently downloaded this app earlier this morning and she was so obsessed with HOMER that she was learn for 2.5 hours willingly without getting bored of it.
Undecided.
by kaytillz on 2019/08/12 22:20
Hello I used the free trial and was happy with it. However right after it charged my account the $7.99 it kicked me out and is now saying that I don’t have an account with you at all. I’d like my money back because all my sons progress is completely gone and I haven’t been able to log on since being charged.
Loved the old version. Hate the new one.
by ashjscmama on 2019/08/12 15:01
My child who turned 3 a month ago has been using Homer for 4 months. She has learned a great deal and we love the stories. However the app update has not been user friendly for us. It’s difficult for her to operate on her own and I usually spend her media time helping her. Which is not the worst thing but often defeats the reason I give her the iPad. We can’t locate some of her favorite stories and the app itself often freezes now. We will be canceling our membership and trying Abcmouse.
Absolutely useless
by Christöffer on 2019/08/10 15:35
Completely unintuitive, my child just wanted to use the drawing pictures part. I've just wasted my money because I forgot to turn it off because it was so completely useless I forget it existed.
Good balance
by Returnbiker on 2019/08/10 00:06
It seems to be a great balance between work and free play for the younger readers. Not so grueling that they become bored or oppositional, and not so playful that they glean little from it. Glad we tried it, and while I don’t expect to renew it forever, it’s especially nice to have over summer break!
Won’t orient properly!
by JMNavanod on 2019/08/08 08:12
So glitchy my kid can’t play it. Screen not properly sized for portrait & won’t orient to landscape. And no, my screen is not in portrait lock - I checked. A great app if they would fix the glitches.
Love it,

What’s more than 5 stars
by MoNkEyGuRLmOnA on 2019/08/06 03:50
So I read the reviews and I was won over instantly. I downloaded the game and signed up to pay $8 a month to have my son play it after the free trial. Now my son is super hyper and I never let him have screen time but he’s behind in talking and knowing what he needs to know. So I let my son play this game and at first I’m like is he just coloring but they make it fun with puzzles ,coloring, identify the coloring game with ice cream lava for the kids and at first he skipped them reading the abcs now he stands up and dance and sing the abc in his special talk he does and you can hear him pronounce them better. He loves that he can color with the sticker of the hot dog and burger. If I was to make a suggestion that thing that just have the letters go by and it has what the letter start with as it goes by then it sings the abcs at the end make it into a game because my son was trying to touch the letters and identify them as they go by so maybe like a hide and find with other things not like the game with the balloons but like have a farm background with other things and have them identify the letters as they go by and have it go by fast and see how much they can get as it go by I think that would be fun. Thank you so much for helping my son learn in a fun way I have literally told everybody I talk to with kids about this app.
MUST HAVE!
by michellenaranjo24 on 2019/07/18 19:28
I’ve had this the HOMER app for quite sometime I must say my toddler & I love this app! First off to start it has a bunch of different activities to complete from tracing letters of the alphabet to songs & rhymes. It amazes me how much my daughter learns from this app. The best part of HOMER is the section of art, where your child can create their story! My daughter goes all out she has so much fun putting “sticker like figures” on empty background // picture created for her to decorate. I have a subscription with them it’s about 8.99$ but it’s totally worth it if you think about it. The HOMER app also includes the app Stories, when you have the subscription which is nice like getting 2 for a price of one. The stories is really nice. Only thing is I wish they’d put more. They do have quite a few though so it’s fine for now. The customer service is absolutely wonderful, if needed any help they get back to you & are very friendly. I would love to see more games! More activities to do for sure. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the future of HOMER. I definitely recommend especially if you have a toddler!!
Very engaging resource!
by benbethandbeyond on 2019/01/20 23:56
My son whines about EVERYTHING he finds even slightly boring or uninteresting. He is struggling to start to read. I think he may even have a learning disability and most things I try with him make him whine 🙄 I saw an ad for this app and thought it was worth a try since it had a free trial. In two days I knew I found a winner. He looks forward to using the Homer app and finds it very engaging. He loves his “monkey teacher” and the stories and games! He gets excited when he levels up and can see his progress. It was easy to decide to continue with the program after the trial was over. This past week he started identifying small words in texts while we read together and he also started to spell small words to me by sounding them out. I added my 3yr old and she loves it too! She has speech problems and recently started speech therapy. This is the perfect additional resource to help me get her ready for pre-school and kindergarten. Thank you!
Love it so far
by 2Kittens love me on 2018/03/16 23:24
My older daughter is dyslexic and her teacher noticed that she was struggling to have confidence with reading. Came across this on Pinterest one day and decided to try it. We have only been using the free trial for a few weeks and we love it!! My younger daughter is addicted to it right now. She is using the preschool pathway and loves everything. My older daughter is on the growing reader pathway and is gaining confidence, even if she is sometimes bored (it’s geared more towards younger children and she’s 8). I run a very small prekindergarten for about 6 of my friends kids. Our neighbor is incredibly bright for her age (newly 5 and can read chapter books) so I made her and her little brother profiles. However, it has her on the pre-k pathway and she says that it is really easy. Her brother is only 2 and is on the same pathway as my youngest(3). I remember that when I made my first profile, I gave me the option to chose another profile for my older daughter but I can’t do that now. Is their anyway that I can chose the pathway I think they should be on? Overall, this is a really lovely app for any child who wants to have an educational boost. Totally recommend!!!!
Homer is the greatest app ever
by Nover1 on 2019/02/06 07:44
My daughter is 2 going on 3, and she has been playing Homer since she had just turned 2. Watching her write her ABCs and learn sounds and words makes me feel so proud. I’m so amazed by the progress she has made, I have to give some credit to Homer! The best thing is she’s learning while having fun, which to me is the best way to learn. We started with the free trial and by the end of the first day I knew I was going to purchase the app. I even have fun playing with her! I love how she can grow with the game with the ‘Pathway’ as she gets older. The other amazing thing is Homer customer service. I was having issues with the app so I emailed Homer and they told me all I had to do was update to the newer version (the issue was totally on my end.) Customer service responded so quickly and were very friendly. I recommend Homer to anyone with a child age 2-8!
Love it but..
by ColleenT12 on 2019/04/26 15:30
My 4.5 year old and 2.5 year old have been playing this nonstop since we downloaded it! We are still in the trail period of it BUT, it seems a little glitchy? My daughter will do the pathway and then suddenly just won’t her move on after completing something. Even if I do it after she does to see if she missed something, it won’t move forward. So if we close the whole app it’ll “fix” but it won’t be the same pathway anymore. I’m not sure what’s going on, this seems to be our only issue with the app. Otherwise we are LOVING this app. I love how it really wants them to get involved in repeating what the app has said. I love that they can’t just skip ahead to earn “tickets or a reward” and not actually completing the video or little game, or whatever the app may be asking for them to do. They’ve seriously been addicted to this app, and that makes for one happy mama, to know they love an app this much and it’s teaching them so much too! 😍😍
Pretty good would recommend
by Griffgriff27 on 2017/12/29 02:57
I’ve only used the free trial so far. Good: It is great supplement for teaching your child along with other learning lessons you teach them do not use this solely alone. It does teach a lot in one app and seems it lives up to its advertisement. My son really enjoys it. I like the engagement of getting to respond to what you’ve learned as well as questions at the end of the lessons. Love the idea of a “pathway” that is personalized for each child to what their likes are although I couldn't pick all of the likes in the beginning had only a certain amount but overall it is a very smart app and my son seems to really like it, he asks to play it and is learning some from it so I think I will buy maybe a month to month and see how it goes from there. Not so good: It does freeze up sometimes and when my son went back to record his voice of what he wanted to say again about the lesson it wouldn’t allow him to so you have to only do it when you compete it and are still on that page, doesn’t seem you can go back and record. I don’t like that the stories don’t exactly match or complaint the lesson taught and overall just wish there was more to it. Also, it seems to specialize in reading but for the price I would like it to also be all basic subjects. Overall: Pretty good, is simple learning. Has engaging, fun characters that seem to make the pathway exciting but wish there was more to it (subjects). :)
Kindergarteners expected to read
by AsianSoul2468 on 2017/11/25 18:01
Tried it because kindergarteners are expected to read. BEST PURCHASE EVER! Games and stories are short and keep interest. Content changes as my daughter continues along her pathway. She's already starting to recognize letters, even trying to name them. She saw a capital F and called it an E, but that's an amazing start! She loves making silly letter creatures and fairy stories with stickers. She can record her voice at the end of some of the stories, and the really great thing about that is that I can access all of her sticker pictures, voice recordings and such. Speaking of stories, there is a wide variety, including informational text, fantasy, science fiction, etc. and she gets to choose between three different stories each time. For as cheap as it is every month and how much my daughter is learning, this is the best purchase I've ever made!
Finally something that keeps his attention
by Loveformod on 2019/03/13 02:44
We homeschool and my son (just turned 6) is so dang brilliant! Sometimes however, certain things do not hold his interest. Reading is one of those things. We’ve tried different curriculum, workbooks, other apps, flash cards, reading books, you tube videos... nothing held his attention (and other apps left him wandering around the page without actually working on the educational part of it). HOMER is the only app that has held his attention. It’s also the only app that is MAKING A DIFFERENCE! He actually enjoys learning how to read when it used to be the last thing on his mind. I’m so happy I’ve discovered homer for him. And get this! His 3 year old sister is also using the app and loving it. I am so happy to have this tool to use as an aid in their education!

Extremely frustrating

Learning to read can be a very emotional task. This app unfortunately does not help. I really wanted to like this app but after watching my daughter in tears for the 4th time because the app didn’t save her accomplished levels and dropped her back 2 levels, I realized it wasn’t worth the frustration. The app is very exciting when it works. Great celebration and sense of accomplishment but when that accomplishment is essentially taken away, that’s too much for a beginner to handle. Also, the app does not track progress between different devices. So if my daughter primarily works on her iPad and then maybe wants to use my phone, her progress will not display. To be fair, this is something they know and have admitted in there FAQ. All in all, there are many apps out there, find the one that will make the wonderful world of reading fun and not frustrating. One more thing, don’t bother contacting customer service, you will get no where fast.
Beware

Literally the first review I have ever written on any APP. I started a limited time offer more then a year ago, Homer offered a special price for summer months. It was great for my kids who were in preschool. When my 3 months were up so was my access to the full APP. That is what I expected. Guess What?! Auto payment wasn’t! I have been autopaying for this Homer APP that didn’t even allow me access to the full APP for over a year! Wish I could share photos (I took screenshots) on here to show you how confusing and ridiculous the cancellation process was. To cancel this membership you have to go through a complicated process to complete you cancelation. One of the last pages of cancellation I was give a choice of to give feedback about the reason for canceling. Then clicking one of two buttons. One: Keep My Membership. And two, guess what it was?! Two: Keep My Membership. I am so disappointed by they way this company chooses to treat its customers.

Excellent cumulative reading program
by CartersLove on 2018/01/27 17:40
This is an excellent app that actually builds reading and spelling skills. It builds upon itself instead of just random words, it takes the child through each letter sound and blend. Then the child gets a large assortment of first readers (stories) with the new words they are learning and they can record their own voice reading the story. My daughter learned very quickly and enjoyed the app- she asked to use it on a regular basis. I love that I am able to keep the recordings of her reading and that she has actually learned to read. This is an excellent curriculum and app- my child and I both recommend!
The app is ok
by Halfwaytomygoal! on 2019/07/01 04:09
I’m a lab elementary teacher and I was looking for some apps that would help get my own children off on the right foot for reading! They did enjoy the app, however my daughter became bored quickly with the sight words part of the game. They enjoyed the different songs, books, etc., however they have to download all of them. This obviously became a problem with each item. They also claim to be able to track your child’s progress. This isn’t accurate. You can see what your child sees in the app. No progress, no data, etc. I emailed to company a while back about this and didn’t receive a response. My kids enjoyed it, however didn’t learn very much. Looking for a new app...
GREAT App!!
by LynZ H on 2018/05/23 17:25
Homer is by far my favorite educational app for my son right now. He is just about 2 and he already knows all of his uppercase and lowercase letters, plus his colors and numbers 1-12. I started looking for some educational apps because I wasn't sure what to help him learn next and we have tried several different apps but most of them are not user friendly for such young children. Homer is great and my son has no problems navigating it on his own! He loves it and is so obsessed and begs me to "pway game" "Ohmer!" I would definately reccomend this for little learners! After using it for a little over a month he now knows most of the sounds the letters make!
A Creative and Innovative Experience my child loves!
by mrmojorisin19 on 2019/04/23 21:54
I downloaded and subscribed to Homer with the hopes of getting my child interested in learning and reading at an early age and I couldn’t be happier with the result! With Homer, my son (age 4) has his interests and passions turned into personalized lessons and levels that he absolutely adores. He loves following along with his favorite characters and is showing more enthusiasm for learning every time we open the app each night. Even his teacher has noted to me him becoming more engaged with his schoolwork! Love the experience so far and would recommend to anyone who wants to show their children the magic of learning.
Super high quality education
by Guud Karma on 2019/03/12 19:33
I almost never write reviews, but I have tried so many pre-k education apps and non of them are even come close to Homer. Most apps are just games that have some mild educational connection such as jumping over letter of the alphabet. Homer actually teaches. It makes my kids think and challenges them to learn one step at a time. My 2 year old and 5 year old both use it multiple times a week and they love it. My 5 year old has dramatically improved at reading over the last 6 months and it is mostly due to this app. I’m a customer for life, no doubt. Thank you thank you Homer!
I just wasted $79
by NC2018 on 2018/03/17 03:04
When we did the trial a while back, there was a learn to read mode that really helped my child. A couple months later I purchased a year subscription thinking that would still be there. It was there for a day or so, until what I assumed was an app update that now is completely different and useless. Now my child is bored picking out the color blue and other stuff way below her learning level. And no more reading aside for having stories read to her. She is bored now and wants to know where the words went. Now I appear to be stuck with a year of this ridiculously useless app as it looks like they don’t issue refunds. Has I known the updates would be this bad (and not including activities advertised in the app screenshots that are shared), I would have paid a year upfront.
I had no idea my son was this close to reading!
by mamaBabr on 2019/06/21 07:51
My kid is only 3.5 and we read to him every night but I never really pushed him to sound things out or write on his own. Then he started playing around on this app and he’s SO INTO IT! He is really starting to recognize “sight words” and tries spelling and sounding out words in our nighttime stories. The letters he’s tracing on the screen look awesome. The breaks he gets to draw and play along his “pathway” give him the break that keeps us BOTH more comfortable with this early learning. He’s having fun and I can see progress, this is screen time I honestly don’t feel any mom guilt about.
Doesn’t work regularly
by melissa letos on 2019/03/27 16:38
when I can get it to actually function this is my favorite app. I have 3 1/2-year-old twins and it’s great. However we have been paying for a subscription for six months and if I can figure out how to get to the App Store I’m going to cancel it. When I open up the app to try and set it up for my kids and I go to their path way more than 50% of the time I am on able to get it to load. We have 4G service and solid Wi-Fi in our home. All of the other educational apps work fine. It seems like it would be my problem but we are having the same issue on our other iPad and with none of our other apps so I have to assume it’s Homer. I came here today to see if I needed to download a different version or update it to see if maybe that was the problem

My daughter doesn’t say a lot of words yet but has surprised me by how much she knows when I watch her use this app. She will be going to speech therapy to help with her development, but I have really enjoyed this app that gives her the right questions for her age and abilities that she can actually answer. I think it makes her feel good about herself being able to answer questions frustration free! BUT since the new update the game crashes! She is now stuck on her pathway and cannot go any further. You can’t skip over any games on the pathway so we are just stuck. This game is worth 5 stars but with the disappointing crashing I can’t give it more than 3. It really is a great app. I hope this issue gets fixed.
Love this app
by ajones2525 on 2018/10/02 20:52
My daughter is super engaged with this app and views it as playtime and a reward, which makes me feel great about letting her play it for a while. She has learned so much in a short period of time. It advances quickly enough to hold her interest but slow enough so she isn’t discouraged. The best part is she can do it all be herself. One suggestion for the developers is to make the font much bigger on the reading stories activities. It is so tiny on my iPhone that it’s even hard for me to read. I would also shorten the sentences so it isn’t as daunting for beginning readers.
Seems good but doesnt work
by Mrs fukballzski on 2018/07/24 20:08
I liked it at first. But second day in and it is downloading something everytime i open it. And clicking the pathway made it do more downloading. My daughter played for five minute and got to a spot on the pathway with three videos i think. She clicked to download them and then it shows loading and then nothing. Click again and shows loading then nothing. Closed app and tried again and now its stuck on whatever it thinks it needs to download again for pathway. Thankfulky we are on wifi right now but usually we are on hotspot data thats limited and this activity would not be ok. Besides the app is now useless. It looked great other than that and my daughter loved it until it stopped. Wont be renewing after 30 days.
— MSEd.
What free trial?!
by TreNec17 on 2018/08/03 16:43
I downloaded the app for my three year old granddaughter and selected the free limited access. She went thru it in just a matter of ten minutes tops. After that to continue on the my pathway it kept shoving the sign up paying access in our face and would do nothing more. Even if I clicked on free downloads it did nothing other than want me to subscribe to their subscription. I probably would have if the developers wasn’t so demanding about subscribing because she really liked it. I just expected to get at least a little bit more out of it before I put my money in it. Ten minutes tops don’t peak my interest at all to want to put my money in this app. I will be uninstalling as I’m sure there’s better apps that’s focused less on your money but more on your child’s learning abilities.
We love Homer
by BeesyWoman on 2018/11/10 01:48
My kids love playing and I’m totally okay letting them have this screen time. The games change up so my kids don’t get bored. The program moves slowly enough for my preschooler and kindergartener to follow without getting frustrated but they progress fast enough I don’t feel like they are wasting time. So many reasons we have been loving Homer. My kindergartener is a little ahead of a lot of kids in her class so this is fun for us to let her spend time perfecting the things she knows and improving while still progressing.
So many glitches
by Jenn shao on 2019/04/19 05:02
I wanted to love this app. Luckily i tried the limited trial version before putting in my credit card info for the 30 day version with recurring payments. There are so many glitches and it is only our 3rd time (2nd day) trying it out. First it forgot where he was along the pathway. Then he kept playing the same thing and would not go to new activity. I restarted the app and it finally remembered where he was on the pathway, but it will NOT let him do the next activity (it was light up and had a play symbol). It was glitching and you can’t press play. It was very frustrating for me as an adult, even more frustrating for a 4 year old. Totally not worth $8/month if it glitches like this. I wasn’t even sure i wanted to pay $8/month for an app in the first place.
Dislike Pathways SO Much
by theriotstarterisonfire on 2017/12/31 18:50
Long time Homer user (almost 3 years, 2 kids). The new pathways are terrible. The Learn-To-Read was much better. Not worth the $75 a year. Still crashes a lot too. Cons of Pathways: - no autonomy on lessons - profiles aren’t phonetic/letter identification focused (ex: my youngest only gets stories read to him and gives him color choosing games - no letter combo mastery to start reading) - not goal oriented - no “mastered” letters or vowels (or mastered letter combos such as “pat”) -no clear learn to read area means my kids may have to search through the games to find letter tracing or letter identification - app becomes overall less reading-oriented due to above Before with Learn-To-Read: - easy consonant/vowel learning combos (ex: P, T, A, becomes early reading of tap/pat) - can go back to completed sections for review if needed - clear “end” after 26 lesson trees - had distinct areas for letter learning vs education games (such as color identification, etc) Just very disappointed. Loved and used to recommend this app to many parents. Now want my money back. Do not recommend unless they change the app back to previous structure which actually used to help my kids learn to read.
The best reading app I found
by lanadelberg on 2018/12/16 21:01
I’m a teacher and I was looking for an app that would gradually teach my daughter how to read. I’ve tried a lot of different apps, including ABC mouse, Teach my monster and nothing even comes close. Homer was the only app that came close to having a real curriculum. My daughter absolutely loves it, she always asks to play. She started out with learning letters and now she’s is on to reading simple words. It’s was glitchy for two weeks, but I think they fixed it because it works perfectly fine now.
Can’t get anything to download!
by Ashley2121 on 2018/08/25 01:56
I’m so disappointed. We downloaded this app this morning. My 6 year old and 4 year old have been trying ALL DAY and cannot get a single thing to download. We have tried on multiple devices and every time we click on something, it shows “downloading.” We left it downloading and came back later only to have it appear to start all over downloading. I have been a paid member of ABC Mouse for 2 years now and was looking forward to something new. It really is a shame because the app looked great. But to have to sit and wait forever EVERY TIME and then for it not even to work is beyond frustrating. We will keep trying a little more, but if this doesn’t get fixed soon, we will be cancelling our free trial and deleting the app!
My four year old loves this app
by jlbcham on 2019/03/10 15:11
My four year old enjoys this app and that’s sayings a lot because she doesn’t tend to like practicing sounds or letters. She uses this around 15 minutes a day and it has improved her sounds dramatically. The only issue I’m having is I am not able to download her pathway to other devices. Every time I download using my information I get a different child’s pathway. I have spent countless time trying to get her pathway on other devices and nothing works. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Truly the Best
by Aryn Sanchez on 2018/04/26 10:15
I don’t usually take time to leave reviews, but this app needs one! I am a Kindergarten teacher and a mother of a 3 year old. This is by far the best app around to help build early literacy skills. It has everything! Comprehension, vocabulary, phonemic awareness, phonics, sequencing, story telling, letter recognition, etc. Not only does it have everything, but it makes everything ENGAGING for children. This is my daughter’s favorite app. She does a little bit of her pathway every week, and she has learned so much in just the month that we have had it. As a teacher, my recommendation is to train your children to use the pathway and not just choose random videos on the app. Although those are good, too, the pathway is where the learning takes place. If there was a way to utilize this for all of my students within my classroom using a teacher account, I would love that!
This is not just a learn to read app...
by ladybugkisses on 2018/04/09 22:09
I started using Homer for my 2 year old with a speech delay. The app is easy to use and he loves all the little games, stories, and songs. The subscription price is not too expensive and is worth it for all the fun and learning you get. I had an issue with not being able to get the app to work on a new device. Customer support responded to my email and had me up and running within the hour! If you haven’t tried this app yet, do it! It’s one of our favorites.
Life Saver!
by Aliciamarie505 on 2019/07/11 20:57
My daughter had a stroke at birth and it affects her speech and language. She’s been in speech therapy for almost a year now. She’s two. I got this app, and more of the Homer apps, 2 days ago and she can already recognize colors and letter and is even starting to say them!! She begs to play the game. She will even bring me my iPad, tug on my shirt, and bring me to her big pink chair. I can’t thank the creators enough!! This app truly saved us! It’s been such an asset with her condition and she’s already doing so much! I’ve never had a app make me cry.... Thank you!
Wonderfully helpful app
by Lklgkvgjcdfjvd on 2018/03/22 18:47
I have dealt with many families using the app and getting them accustom to the app. First thing is that it is very easy to understand and navigate. Have had many cases of confused people attempting to use it and after a few minutes understand it enough to use it to its full potential. Second it is awesome and really works!!! The games are easy and fun but really get kids interested and learning leaps and bounds ahead of others their age. Overall solid system and app.
Was great until it wasn’t
by Flawless_1011 on 2019/05/01 00:07
I really enjoyed using this app with my 5 year old who has had difficulty learning how to read. This made it fun for him and he really seemed to enjoy it. I’m bummed that we’ve only gotten through maybe 5 letters of the alphabet on the pathway and and it is stuck and we can’t go any further. I’ve tried signing out and back in, deleting and reloading with no luck. I’ve contacted customer service who asked me to try the same things I already tried, still no luck. Last I heard they are escalating the issue, which was 5 days ago now. Looks like I’ll be cancelling and looking for something else.
Fit for any learner!
by bookgirl2018 on 2018/05/15 19:27
Not only have I been able to help multiple families get access to homer I have had the opportunity to use this app with my little cousins who LOVE it! The fact that they are able to record their voice and listen to it later (OR mom and dad later on) was a major game changer for them. They are both complex learners so since this app helps them learn to read by, speaking, visualizing, playing games, and repeating the words has been extremely helpful!
We had nothing but problems with this app on my sons iPad
by JLSD4 on 2017/10/15 18:41
In the beginning it was great and my son loved it. This app would constantly need to be updated it would not work and when I contacted customer support all they would say was that I needed to reset my device. Why would I need to reset my device constantly in order for their app to work. I think they need some updates. Also when I signed up for a trial it automatically charged me the full price for the app and I did not give me a trial. It would also lose all of my sons saved progress and data and he would have to restart from the beginning. It was frustrating for a six-year-old because it wouldn't save his progress and that's ridiculous.
Child Loves It
by Bee144 on 2019/05/09 09:00
Update: iPad Pro 11” support has been added! No more ugly black bars. Thank you for listening and quickly implementing support. This app is now worthy of 5 stars. My child loves it! Original comment: I would give 5 stars but for a monthly subscription, I would hope to see the latest devices supported. App has ugly black bars and doesn’t make full use of our 11” iPad Pro (gen 3) screen. It’s been out for 7 months and I thought Apple required all devs to support XS Max and 11” iPP starting March 27th?
Stopped working back in April
by Dima78 on 2019/05/29 16:02
When the software worked, I did like it. However, it stopped working (cannot access My Path) in April and after contacting the customer support multiple times (including sending a video of the problem), it is still not resolved. I tried reinstalling the app many times, tried iPhone, IPad, resetting both devices and still have the same problem. The support told me that they can reproduce the problem but unable to solve it. Anyway, I think this is not acceptable for an app that requires monthly subscription fee. I will give it one more week and if the issue is still not resolved, I will be removing the app.
Glitchy
by Laurellove on 2019/06/28 20:05
My sons iPad was super glitchy with this app and then I downloaded it on my iPhone X and it is not displaying properly. I wanted to be able to use this app at home and on the go for learning but it’s just leaving me frustrated. Not only that but every single time we reopen the app it asks us to back sign back in. My kid is not going to be able to do that on his own each time he wants to use it. Of course I can do it for him but I wanted this to be an app he would want to play on his own. When the app wasn’t glitching he was enjoying it.
The worse than anything I have downloaded!!!
by qeeeeeeeeennnnnnnnn on 2019/02/24 06:40
The worse app I have ever downloaded to my Daughter’s iPad. When I launch the App the video would freeze, or if I tried downloading a new video the app would not respond. We tried downloading the video over WiFi but the video would not download. We are using the latest IOS 12 update. I deleted the App and contacted Apple support to get out monthly $7.99 refund. Apple support will not refund our $7.99 monthly subscription plan despite deleting the App before the renewal period. I did not know that I have to also cancel the subscription too, so the February 23rd monthly renewal charges my card the $7.99. Is there away to get my $7.99 for the month of February. Thanks!!!

AMAZINGLY AWESOME

I would love to use it to help my son learn to ready as the reviews are great, but I can’t even log in. It keeps giving me an error.

by AmberLinaa on 2019/11/14 15:55
I got this app for my almost 3 year old to try out.

Grandaughter really likes this but it’s listed under the free category yet it won’t let her play unless I pay. Unfortunately I can’t afford to pay these prices for “free” apps. So its a no go. Really like your app though!

I’m not sure how many months Homer took me for but if you do purchase the subscription check the app often so you don’t get screwed like I did.

by Britt ❤ on 2019/10/14 19:00
I love the app, WHEN it works.

Great time with Homer

My 7 year old granddaughter and 5 year old grandson enjoy Homer very much. They never want to stop using it when time is up and the activities are age appropriate.

Good balance
by Returnbiker on 2019/08/10 00:06
It seems to be a great balance between work and free play for the younger readers. Not so grueling that they become bored or oppositional, and not so playful that they glean little from it. Glad we tried it, and while I don’t expect to renew it forever, it’s especially nice to have over summer break!

Extremely frustrating
by Gold iPhone ;) on 2019/02/06 20:19
Learning to read can be a very emotional task.
Beware
by teachforsummer on 2018/09/05 00:14
Literally the first review I have ever written on any APP.
Great game but quits unexpectedly
by lives with her mom on 2019/03/15 13:17
My daughter doesn’t say a lot of words yet but has surprised me by how much she knows when I watch her use this app.
Life Saver!

I have dealt with many families using the app and getting them accustom to the app. First thing is that it is very easy to understand and navigate. Have had many cases of confused people attempting to use it and after a few minutes understand it enough to use it to its full potential. Second it is awesome and really works!!! The games are easy and fun but really get kids interested and learning leaps and bounds ahead of others their age. Overall solid system and app.
Was great until it wasn’t

Update: iPad Pro 11” support has been added! No more ugly black bars. Thank you for listening and quickly implementing support. This app is now worthy of 5 stars. My child loves it! Original comment: I would give 5 stars but for a monthly subscription, I would hope to see the latest devices supported. App has ugly black bars and doesn’t make full use of our 11” iPad Pro (gen 3) screen. It’s been out for 7 months and I thought Apple required all devs to support XS Max and 11” iPP starting March 27th?
Great for toddlers not 7-8 year olds

The learning path seemed way off, my son is 7 and behind in reading (mid 1st grade instead of 2nd grade level) wanted to find an app that would help interest him in reading but his learning path had him matching lowercase and uppercase letters he didn’t make it through the first game before he was telling me how boring it was and begging to do anything else... was really optimistic since it mentioned it was for children up to 8 years of age, but I just can’t see how it is unless the older kids are only meant to use the books and there are other apps at the same price point that offer many more books if that’s all he is utilizing.
Thanks!!!
