Our mission is to create an open-source map of connectivity so that everyone in the world can enjoy the best mobile connection available Features - Test tab with speed test and video streaming quality to analyze mobile video performance with results for time spent buffering, loading and playback - Signal dashboard and ping test - for testing latency response - Connectivity map to show locations of 3G & 4G/LTE tests - Network stats with average speeds for download, upload and latency and network strength on major providers - Availability stats and historical log of your WiFi and 3G & 4G/LTE speed tests to check connectivity over time - Signal alert when you have no data or call connectivity OpenSignal Speed Tests OpenSignal speed tests measure your real experience of mobile connectivity and signal. The speed test runs a 10 sec download test, 10 sec upload test and ping test to determine the speed you will likely experience. The speed test runs on common internet CDN servers. The result is calculated with the middle range of samples. Check if you're getting the network quality you're paying for from your mobile network or internet provider. Use our coverage maps to compare networks and data speed in your area. OpenSignal works with WiFi mobile broadband internet. Video Speed Tests Slow video load time? Video buffering? More time waiting than watching? A good average network speed isn’t enough for a great video experience. OpenSignal’s video test gives you the full picture of your network experience. OpenSignal video tests show you exactly what to expect with HD and SD videos. Watch a 15 sec video snippet to test and log load time, buffering, and playback issues in real-time. Monitor how video quality changes with time and location. Review video test results in History to see if your network experience has changed over time. Availability Stats OpenSignal calculates the time you’ve spent on 3G & 4G/LTE or had no signal. This shows your network availability in the places you use your phone the most. See where you are getting 3G & 4G/LTE and check you’re getting the service you’re paying for from your network provider. If not, use the data to prove connectivity and signal issues to your mobile operator. Coverage Map OpenSignal’s coverage maps show signal strength down to street level using speed test and signal data from local users. With network stats on local network operators, you can check speeds ahead of a trip, find out if you will get a signal in remote areas, check your signal against others in the area to see if you’re getting the best service, arrange the best local SIM and check the signal strength when travelling. Improving Network Connectivity We provide an independent source of truth in mobile network experience: A data source that shows how users experience mobile network speeds, gaming, video and voice services worldwide. To do this, we collect data on the signal strength, network, location and other device sensors. You can stop this at any time in the settings. We share this data with network operators globally and others in the industry to drive better connectivity for all.
What happened to signal direction finder?
by Disenchanted owner on 2020/05/24 15:57
This used to be a great app for those looking to aim their yagi antenna for signal boosting. No more. This feature seems to have disappeared with the developer focusing on keeping with other apps that measure data transfer ability. SO WHAT? Go back to what you are known for and just offer tower direction finding.

This app no longer does what it was designed to do
by GinaD0131 on 2020/05/19 00:54
This used to be a great app for finding signal and locating cell towers. Now it’s nothing more than a speed test app. I’m completely disappointed and I’m deleting the app.
What happen?
by TheNormsk on 2020/05/18 18:56
The app used to be good to find the direction of cell towers but with the latest update that is gone! I used to contribute a lot of cell performance data that OpenSignal profits from but now they took away the one feature that was actually useful. There’s no point keeping the app now so I shall delete it.
neutered/useless
by Unfortunately Correct on 2020/05/13 18:18
Downloaded originally because of the directional signal finding and signal strength measurements. An “update” removed these features, now it’s just a bloated/useless/redundant bandwidth test that can be better performed by a hundred websites.
Don’t update if you have an older version
by Tirimisu dirndls on 2020/05/13 05:39
The only thing I found useful with this app was the cell tower pointer. I used it to point a Weboost cellular booster towards the antenna. The new app update removed this feature. Why? Just why.
Not like it used to be :c
by Jackson52990 on 2020/05/07 21:25
I used to love it. I needed it to find closed carrier towers and it did it better than any other app that tried. But then they took that away and now it’s just like every other speed test app. I don’t know what to think about it now :/
Garbage now!!!
by Joe ninja on 2020/05/07 11:00
5/7/2020 Was hoping the latest update would bring back the signal tower arrow, not this update! Developers don’t tell us why the arrow was removed and if it will come back🙁 4/10/2020 The signal finder arrow is still gone🙁 Will the developer bring this back? Please respond so everyone can know! Latest update doesn’t have tower data and location. I used that feature so I could see where the nearest tower is and point my antenna correctly. Please bring this feature back! I could care less about connection speed and video. There are plenty apps that do this.
Current version removed the arrow that pointed to connected tower
by Richard295 on 2020/05/07 10:33
This application used to be very valuable to locate my connected tower so I could move towards it to improve my reception. It is now worthless since this function was removed. Why did they do something so dumb?
fix this
by charmosis on 2020/05/07 03:39
needs put back like it was where it showed you the signal an what way the tower was
Latest version is a downgrade
by Maughaum on 2020/05/04 12:49
Latest version of the app removed the capability to find strongest tower. I miss the little arrow point at the tower. Now the app just looks exactly like the competition. Messed up a good thing. Dumb.
What happened to directional arrow?
by JenO on 2020/05/01 21:19
The only use I had for this app was to find where the nearest strongest cell signal was coming from..... it would point its arrow I. The direction I would need to point my booster antenna ...... now when I travel.... I have NO CLUE where to point it! Thanks for getting rid of the only use I had for you.
Removed most important feature-useless now

Removed tower locator option, this app is now useless.
Garbage
by dhcjsbsufn on 2020/04/28 23:32

Useless app after update
by Sk8TV on 2020/04/28 18:24
Why would they take the most valuable tool out of the tool box? We’re there legal issues that they had to pull out the tower locator? There are dozens of speed testing apps, some give more accurate reading than this one. I would even be willing to pay for the functionality to locate my tower.

Removed feature to find signal
It used to be a great app with features others didn’t have...
by W4MIC on 2020/04/24 05:28
It used to be a great app with features others didn’t have, but now it’s just another speedtester. In previous versions, users had had the ability to locate the nearest cell tower based on the signal strength and direction heading. For some reason, this function has been removed; along with many other unique features. Developers are now using “crowd sourced” data sources. (Whatever that means?!?!) Another words, they are now simply offering the same functionality as many other testers out there… And essentially brought this app down to where it says useless as everything else. Don’t wast your time. You can get the same testing from a web-page.
Irritating zoom issue
by Calicobeard on 2020/04/23 20:59
This app does seem to help me find better signal, but there’s an irritating issue with the map. If you zoom in too far, the dots that indicate whether the signal is weak or strong disappear. You have to zoom so far out to see them that the blue pip showing your current location covers the indicators, making it difficult to find more than an approximation of the best spot. There should also be an option to save the operator and network type between sessions. Still, it’s definitely useful and hopefully these issues will be ironed out in the future.
Where do arrow and location of towers go?
by Jimmy 150 on 2020/04/22 19:28
When I first got app, I would give four stars. I was using to help locate my towers and install a signal booster antenna, now those features are gone? I like the format of the Speedtest history compared to ookla but that is about it now.
Worst update ever...
by Phadrus on 2020/04/22 17:56
This used to be a VERY useful app with signal arrow and tower locations. NOW with recent “update” it is useless. Delete.

One of my favorite features is gone
by NotBiases on 2020/04/21 04:18
I used to have the ability to control how much data opensignal could collect however sometime after switching from my iPhone 7 to a Samsung I noticed this option was gone on the android app and it is also removed in the iOS app please add the data collection amount control back and the ability to keep the app running as I could do this on my iPhone 7

by TylerBogey on 2020/04/19 17:21

Useless for me
by BillKilgore on 2020/04/18 04:43
Like many other reviewers, the one feature I did use was the signal finder to point to the closest cell tower. With that feature gone, I might as well trash the app.
Totally Useless
by Jneely7 on 2020/04/16 18:11
Used to (sometimes) show the direction to the strongest cell tower. Now it’s totally useless.
App isn’t useful to me with new version
by ericheltzel on 2020/04/16 17:52
I used this app to find cell towers as we travel full time and I used it to point our cell phone booster. They removed the tower locator and arrow function. These were the most useful features to me. There are better options for a speed test app. Not sure why they took away a key differentiator. The app went from 5-star and exactly what I needed to 1-star with no features I need.
Current version KILLED the App
by mbodette on 2020/04/14 16:09
In the current version they removed the cell tower locator! Now it’s just another speed test app.
They Dropped the One Feature I Used
by jkbLosGatos on 2020/04/12 00:32
The only thing I used this app for was to locate my cell tower. They dropped that in the new release. I can’t find any way to roll back to a usable version
Bring back signal finder!
by Outalot on 2020/04/11 19:54
Really useless now without the signal finder arrow! Please bring it back? Already have speed test Apps!
Why did you “improve” the app???
by Raindancer218 on 2020/04/11 18:38
I used to use this as a signal locator. Worked great. Now that the app is “improved” it’s basically Speedtest.net app. I don’t get it.
No more arrow
by Motley Cross on 2020/04/09 11:42
No more arrow pointing towards nearest tower. The feature is gone. Why? There is also no way to pinpoint any tower anymore.
Removed tower direction finder
by ff541$ on 2020/04/06 18:27
Possible the only reason most of us have this app. Great job removing the only feature that sets you apart from your competitors.
Map is now fixed
by National_Anthem on 2020/04/05 15:45
Map was broken, but they finally fixed it. They also added a new video-testing feature. 10 times as useful as it was when it was broken. Thanks for fixing it!
What?
by Over2Klb on 2020/04/05 14:25
The best thing that app had is gone! Being able to find a tower especially rural/suburban locations was key, at least you could figure out how to get a signal in that circumstance, sad...
No use anymore
by Kicks kk j kskvf on 2020/04/05 05:05
I used to use this app for locating the direction of my nearest tower for a signal booster. Why was that feature taken out? It was very useful :(
Disappointed
by SilverXrider on 2020/04/04 17:23
I have been using this app to find towers while boondocking in the desert, it helps me point my Yagi antenna at the nearest tower. Well the latest update removed that function so this app is now just about useless as i normally only have one tower in range, I just need to know where it is, this app used to do that, no more so will have to find another way. Why you removed the best feature is beyond me.
Went downhill
by bhpman on 2020/04/02 20:42

Where is the arrow for the nearest cell tower
by HHKing on 2020/03/31 01:19
After this new update. The arrow to find the cell tower is gone. Where did it go? It helped out a lot to see where to install cell phone booster.
Bring Back Signal Finder
by BusterCar on 2020/03/30 03:31
Without signal this app is worthless. It has been an indispensable tool I use often. Without Signal Finder there is nothing to distinguish this from any other speed test app. I sincerely hope the developer brings it back.
Took away the tower finder. Now can’t setup cell booster.
by Oldbluegmc50 on 2020/03/29 19:00
I downloaded the app. Then it updated before I could setup my cell booster. Weboost recommended this app. Now can’t get it to work right and this app is worthless.

Best feature removed
by CaArcher530 on 2020/03/28 21:38
As others have said the latest update has removed the only feature I used this app for, the tower locator so I knew where to point my external antenna. Really stupid move. I’ll be uninstalling now as the app is now useless to me. It’s really just a speed test app and the developers are a little late to that game.
Just another speed test app
by srccritic on 2020/03/28 15:25
Although prior revision was lacking, This used to be recommended to help find cell towers for pointing cell booster antennas, but that was not great since basically I found it used old data on cell tower locations and made arrow at one it thought closest. Well we had one even closer that it did not have on its map. We found it just by driving around and looking at number of bars of signal on phone. So app useless. Description mentions WiFi signal strength but nothing on app says WIFi. No data on map when zoom in too far. Now they made it into nearly every other speed test app. I already have 3 others, so useless on that topic as well. Will not be using thus app. When is someone finally going to make an app to tell us where closest and strongest cell tower is from current location and provide a arrow pointing what direction it is, seems so basic an idea. Would help cell signal booster installations.
New update made app useless
by Brentex on 2020/03/27 21:23
All I ever wanted from this app was a pointer to the nearest and strongest cell tower so I could aim cell boosters. Update did away with most useful feature
App less comprehensive than previous
by SereneSojourning on 2020/03/25 22:46
My husband has a version of this app ... and his menu looks completely different than mine. He has the ability to FIND SIGNAL. I also need the ability to find a signal so I know where to point my WeBoost antenna... without this ability, this app is useless for me. We are full time RVers. I have an iPhone 8 with the latest version 13.3.1.
New app update removed important feature
by hank1354 on 2020/03/25 15:28
This app was very helpful for what I needed until the recent update. Now I cannot find the feature that uses a compass to point toward the cell tower my phone is connected to. I need this feature to install my cell signal amplifier in the right place.

New version removed the most useful function!
by <nickname-shnickname> on 2020/03/23 00:16
Just updated the app (to version 5.0.3) only to discover that the most useful function has been removed: the cell tower signal direction indicator!!! That feature has been used by many people over the years, like me, to determine in which direction to point the antenna of my cell signal booster in order to obtain the best connection. It totally makes no sense at all why the developers would choose to remove that function, and also to not announce it in the version release notes. Two thumbs down! This app is now mostly useless. The speedtest function hasn’t worked reliably or at all most of the time for over a year. And the cell signal mapping is mostly useless because of low participation outside of large metropolitan areas, and if you’re in such an area you’re likely to get a good signal anyway.
New version is not working
by pday1213 on 2020/03/22 15:47
I installed the new version of the app 5.03 and it appears that it has lost the ability to locate cell towers so that you know which direction to point our cell booster. Am I wrong?

Map data not fully loading
by El Munky on 2020/03/11 21:38
The coverage data maps only partially load in “tile” sized chunks. Makes for a checkerboard like pattern where data is present in some squares, totally absent in others. Tried deleting the app and reinstalling, but get the exact same behavior.
Buggy
by Mr. XXXXXXXXXX on 2020/03/07 19:03
Fix your app guys. Good on you for monetizing our data, at the very least fix your maps so we can see the data we’ve all contributed. I tried this app on two separate phones and it was buggy on both. Only portions of the map are overlayed with data when zoomed out. And zooming in shifts the data around so it makes me unconfident on where the data really was taken from.
Please update and squish all the bugs
by brandonj416 on 2020/03/05 22:15
This app has a lot of potential however the developer clearly ignores all the data users send it and all complaints about the bugs. I’ve had this app for so many years hoping we will get an update... still waiting!
Good idea; needs improvement
by Reavy on 2020/02/27 19:42
I especially like that Open Signal offers competition to Ookla‘a well-known speed test apps. This app gives good real-world performance insights into each of the networks you might connect to. The app does not detect when switching Wi-Fi networks and needs to be force quit and relaunched to pick up the change. When switching from one Wi-Fi network to another, running a speed test will tag the result with the previous network name and often fail to compete the test at all. The data usage feature is interesting but doesn’t seem work either. Usage results are not updated without force quitting and relaunching the app.

iOS Version Not as Good as Android :-(
by George Knighton on 2020/02/22 13:27
App continued to try to pull data from physical SIM when primary data is set to eSIM. You’re not really sure the results are correct and relevant because the incorrect provider is reported in the test. “Find Signal” does not work. If you cannot get it to work, you should remove it. The Android version of this application works better and has more features. I do not know what the problems with iOS programming are, but you should try to get this application to be more useful to us.

Worthless
by Doc_68W_ on 2020/02/18 11:57
First the positive: It works well providing you with a true internet speed test. Now the bad: The maps and “signal finder” are worthless. They don’t show many cell phone towers at all. I have a huge, multi-cell tower operated by my carrier a half mile from my house that’s been there for 15 years that they don’t recognize at all. When asked about that, their reply is “it’s not in our database.” As a result of that, rather than their signal pointer pointing towards that tower, it points to where there is no tower... False positives and inaccurate locations are even worse than the towers they fail to recognize. I live near Lake Michigan and their map shows a dozen towers in the middle of the lake. You may ask why it even shows a dozen towers in a relatively small area, I’ll tell you- Say a single tower has 9 cell antennas on it, this app shows it as 9 separate towers, and because the geolocation is so awful, it shows them all spread out over a mile apart. The end result is a single tower in a single location is reported as 9 different towers spread over a couple square miles, and their “signal finder” points at all those non-existent towers. Worthless.
Useless coverage maps
by CCFFCCFFCCFF on 2020/02/17 16:58
I downloaded app to compare providers’ coverage in Mexico. Surprised and pleased when provider list let me see maps for Telcel and ATT separately, then I noticed two maps were identical (did AB compare of screenshots since I didn’t trust my memory). Maps were also flakey and useless wherever I checked them in Maine, too. Deleted
Getting worse. Much worse.
by Jslu511 on 2020/02/11 19:11
1. After the iOS 13 update, the signal readings on the map became almost translucent, they’re pretty hard to see, especially in dark mode. Ok, fine. I get it’s difficult transitioning to a whole new iOS platform. BUT.... 2. The the maps keep loading slower and slower. Utterly terrible. It’s almost unusable, even on strong solid WiFi connections.
No Arrow!
by ExDriver on 2020/02/06 21:31
How do I get the app to POINT to to closest tower? I’ve tried it at home with two bars showing, in town with four bars showing, in WV, PA, GA and FL. It doesn’t work!!!
It’s entirely wrong
by Tttr216472844 on 2020/02/02 19:22
I’ve seen it changed where supposed tower “should be” half the time their pointer doesn’t work. It just makes up towers. Then I can be staring at a tower and it’ll say there isnt one there.
Does not work
by Vthiker on 2020/01/31 21:47
No arrow showing to locate cell signal. Also when you click on App support it brings you to their home page, not app support. Running on iPhone 11 with latest iOS.
What a joke
by BigThelonious on 2020/01/24 23:54
I find it amusing how of the three known towers in my town, not a single one of them shows up on the map. The only tower that shows up on the map in my entire town is allegedly in a gravel pit at the end of a dead end road WHERE THERE IS NO TOWER. The sing along always points toward this location. This app is not real, it’s works just like Waze, it’s only relevant when tons of people in your area use it. This is not based on a real cell signal, it’s based on theory. It is complete and total BS. What a joke.
Was a good app
by Jwhart1 on 2020/01/12 10:33
It worked pretty well in the past, but then when I updated to the iOS 13 beta it stopped working. I figured it would be fixed when the official release of iOS 13 came out, but months later it still can’t complete a speed test and doesn’t show all carrier data on the map. I went back to Speedtest.net’s app for tests and gave up on comparing the network map because I realized that it stopped comparing all of the networks that were in my area. This app went front great to useless. Fix it or just remove it from the App Store

The map is displaying random chunks of its data, never centered on me the user. The button to center the map on me gets to the right state but doesn’t actually have me in the field of view. Trying to change carriers or signal types generates an error almost every time. If you came here because of The Rotor Wing Show you’re gonna be severely disappointed. Oh and there’s no arrow.

I’ve found nothing on this app that actually works.
Should be better
by TheGuyInTheMirror on 2019/12/15 04:05
I tried to contribute data by keeping the app open. This shuts down audio from podcast and music apps. Sorry but that’s a deal killer as I like to listen to music or podcasts while driving.
What happened
by Teeshot 50 on 2019/12/08 20:18
A great app has become useless !!
Crash
by antenna direct on 2019/12/02 14:39
I have installed and deleted this app several times. It worked fine the first time I opened it but after closing and reopening it failed to operate correctly. I found if I deleted and the reinstalled from the cloud it would operate correctly one time then would have to be deleted again and reinstalled before using again. Great idea, hope you can get the bugs out. Good luck!
Terrible app
by Furyswrath on 2019/12/02 05:58
Data isn’t accurate and the UI is buggy at best. Guess ill reinstall again in another year and see if anything has gotten any better.
Finally found a signal.
by ellenoc on 2019/11/18 14:33
I didn’t get this app at first. I had no signal at all at home. I knew there was a tower nearby because I had 65 plus mbs just 5/miles away. Turns out, the tower is even closer. I took the phone to the south east part of my house where the tower is. I couldn’t believe it. Sitting in my cupboard, my iPhone got 2 bars LTE. It still has no signal anywhere else even outside.. I connected my laptop. Updated the iOS. Now, I am getting 11-12mbs consistently. Kind of strange, but I never would have located that tower without this app.
Problems
by Mikeinkatyagain on 2019/11/16 09:41
Yep, the arrow is a “will of the wisp”; sometimes there but mostly not. Cannot select individual carriers. The only map I get is cell tower locations of at&t, my carrier. I would like to see others in case I might want to switch. I wish they would explain how the arrow is pointed. It it just pointing toward the nearest one for my carrier, or, is it where the signal is originating? Could they not provide the ID for that tower? So promising but still lacking.
Virtually useless. No more coverage maps.
by badkitty_ on 2019/11/11 22:23
This app no longer contains exact coverage maps and real results from people’s speed tests. All it is now is a collection of cell phone tower locations which may or may not be accurate. You cannot filter the tower results by different carriers. It will only show you your carrier. What happened to this once excellent app?!
Missing Towers
by voosman12 on 2019/11/11 19:14
I have 2 ATT towers that my phone connects to at home, both of which are listed around me. I know where the towers are physically, but nothing shows on the map.
Speed test does not work
by stupidassapplenickname on 2019/10/31 18:43
Can’t get past the “testing ping” part of the speed test. On Verizon. Clearly broken with no way to inform the developer.
Has gotten much worse
by ruok4a69 on 2019/10/31 13:57
This app is really terrible now. The tower locations are wrong, it’s difficult to select a carrier when you’re zoomed in, and changing options crashes the app very often, which requires finding your location on the map again. Not sure what use I could ever find for this app. Great idea, poor execution.
Great app but needs some tuning.
by Vansuhan3001 on 2018/06/06 16:33
Been using this app for over a year now and it seems to really gives you the best average speed test rather than maximum speed. I have Ookla SpeedTest and I use it to compare the differences of its performance and Ookla (and other speed test app) does only give you what your cell signal/Wi-Fi maximum speed is and Open Signal gives you the real speed that you’re always averaging. This app would be perfect if the developer can make it for you to delete your old test records (you can but it comes back after resetting the app) and needs to add location to where you test your signal and Wi-Fi so you can keep track of where you had already test the signal. There seems to be a problem with the find cellular signal. I’m standing right next to my cellular sever (T-Mobile) and it’s pointing away from it?. Other then that this is a great speed test app. 3 stars for now.
Worthless
by Doc_68W_ on 2020/02/18 11:57
First the positive: It works well providing you with a true internet speed test. Worthless.
Finally found a signal.

Doesn’t actually identify cell towers
by PHWhite on 2018/08/31 22:13
I downloaded this app primarily because I wanted to be able to identify the location of cell towers and the carriers that they belong to. I recently changed cell carriers after 20+ years with the same one and trying to learn where my new carrier has true coverage and where they don’t. The “Find Signal” feature shows all towers as being my carrier’s towers even when I KNOW that I am roaming on another carrier. Also the arrow that you’re supposed to follow to locate the tower is not based on actual tower locations, it’s based on crowd-sourcing information which is no more accurate than my own anecdotal knowledge of the area. The speed test and data usage features are helpful but they aren’t what I downloaded the app for.
Difficult to use
by quoll71 on 2019/04/24 16:03
Much of this app is tough to figure out. The first screen says, “Follow the arrow” but there is no arrow. Pressing the icon for the cell provider takes me to a map of my current location. I can type an address and it takes me there, but it took me a while to zoom out far enough to see a tower location. These are just labeled, with no indication of signal coverage. (Update: after an hour, an arrow appeared! 5 minutes later it pointed in the opposite direction in each case it did not appear to point towards a tower) WiFi didn’t make sense either until I zoomed much further out. The coverage map is crowd sourced, so understandably sparse. I’d add to it if I could. I thought the app might be auto logging my data, since I allowed that, but I haven’t seen any updates to the map around me. Unfortunately, the different signal strengths are in colors that are difficult to distinguish for someone who is red/green colorblind (as I am). Speed test and data usage work as expected, though these were not features I’m looking for.
Great little app with quick, reliable information
by mjbuzzy on 2019/05/19 09:45
That being said, the reason i only gave it 4 stars is because it lacks the ability to orient in any way beyond portrait mode. I use my iPad with a keyboard, putting it in landscape mode. Hard to understand why, in this day and age, apps are not written with the ability to change orientations per position of device. For my purposes, works better than Ookla, but would love developers to give it ability to orient appropriately.
Missing crucial features…still
by TactfulCactii on 2018/09/07 15:37
I’ve deleted this app several times, and every once in a while re-install it thinking maybe it “works” now. The main issue used to Beth’s missing “follow the arrow” arrow. Well, that’s still missing. The reason for my most recent re-install is That I wanted to check signal strength on Verizon for a certain area on the map. Well, there’s a “Select Carrier” dropdown, but the only option is “All”. There’s no option for individual carriers anymore. An average of three completely separate carriers is 100% useless info. Guess I’m deleting…again.
Follow the Arrow? Yep
by Tekpwr on 2018/07/06 13:50
Downloaded the app and it appears the directional arrow has been re-implemented. Don’t know if it was an update glitch or whatever, but the app is now useful! This app worked at one time but no longer has the directional arrow indicating the direction of the cell tower. This function was key when installing a directional cell signal booster antenna. Now that it no longer works, deleted the app. Not recommended if you need to identify the source of your strongest signal.
Refreshing carriers
by Riakstonic on 2018/06/18 16:44
When checking a selected carriers coverage at first go say Verizon in trying to switch to another carrier all it keeps doing us jumping back to carrier signal 2g 4g etc . The app won’t refresh the carrier info it’s stuck on Verizon . after a few attempts it crashes with oops something went wrong and can’t get carrier data right now . Been having this issue for a while now . I just deleted the app and reinstalled so it should be on the latest version but still I have the same issue . iPhone 6 Plus iOS 11.4 . Carrier T-Maybe
Pointless. No value or info
by S>>> on 2018/08/25 22:00
Installed this app today August 2018 and found it to have absolutely no value. Let’s give it zero stars if possible. “Follow the arrow “ Han no directions what to or do with the results. Even when we could make it go from one bar up to two bars not really helpful otherwise. My cell phone but already give me that data without this app. Wanted to use the feature to compare multiple cell phone carriers in our area, however no data came up. Blank .... uninstalled it in same day. Would avoid this app.

Bad tower data, MIA developer
by jd2020 on 2018/05/24 15:01
Great idea if it worked. Towers (for Verizon) not where they claim. I’ve seen them marked in the Potomac and in a parking lot where they don’t exist. The problem of showing wrong carrier seems resolved, but it went on for years. Attempts to contact the developer about incorrect towers in my area get an automatic response and nothing else. I’m not sure where they get their data but there certainly not cell towers in the middle of the river!

Where’s the arrow?
by Spaulding67 on 2019/08/14 11:48
I had this app for a long time on my iPhone SE and I loved it, worked flawlessly. I got a 6S and downloaded the app and the arrow is gone. I deleted the app and re-downloaded it and the arrow is still gone. Some time went by and I decided to give it another try so I downloaded the app again and no luck, the arrow is still AWOL. It would be nice for the developers to figure this out and fix the problem, I’m not the only one with the complaint.
What a joke
by BigThelonious on 2020/01/24 23:54
I find it amusing how of the three known towers in my town, not a single one of them shows up on the map.
What does this app actually do??
by BenEdwardsPI on 2019/09/11 17:55
Downloaded this app at the recommendation of several websites so I can locate towers and the best signal for me to install my cell booster. Open it up and you’re greeted with a “Follow the arrow” prompt. WHAT ARROW? Next, you click the center of the screen that takes you to a map of user-contributed coverage spots. Ok so maybe that’s useful.... but, where’s the cell tower locations and other info that was inferred in the description. Sorry, no 1/2 star option so you get one by default.
Map is now fixed
by National_Anthem on 2020/04/05 15:45
Map was broken, but they finally fixed it. They also added a new video-testing feature. 10 times as useful as it was when it was broken. Thanks for fixing it!
Biased
by Hdhshvsjs on 2017/10/12 15:14
Super biased app like someone is paying the developers to flaunt inaccurate data. They show T-Mobile as the best in pretty much all locations even in areas where I know for a fact that T-Mobile doesn't work like on Camp Pendleton, Ca no one really has T-Mobile because of the crappy service but everyone has ATT and we get service crystal clear in most places. Do not recommend this app
Well Needed Update
by sageartemis on 2020/03/23 04:12
incredible new update that looks way better than it did before and performs way smoother especially for higher speeds. really, great job and kudos to everyone on the team.
Buggy
Can’t see cell coverage close
by Juttin3 on 2019/08/04 01:49
So if you try to see cell coverage zoomed in it just disappears. You have to view it from far away so you can barely see it. Also if ask to see where cell towers are I’m not sure what it’s showing you because most of what it’s showing is peoples houses. There is a actual tower in my town and it’s not even on the map. I’m pretty sure this app used to work like 8 years ago.
Amazing app
by Olexer on 2018/05/12 04:08
I use this app daily. Literally. I live in the middle of bfe so my WiFi does some crazy stuff all the time and to test it this is what I use. It works flawlessly and I love it. Definitely recommend this app
Completely useless
by HeliHunter on 2020/01/09 21:23
The map is displaying random chunks of its data, never centered on me the user. The button to center the map on me gets to the right state but doesn’t actually have me in the field of view. Trying to change carriers or signal types generates an error almost every time. If you came here because of The Rotor Wing Show you’re gonna be severely disappointed. Oh and there’s no arrow.
Will Sprint come back?
by I love mint on 2019/05/24 15:05
Love the app. But seems that Sprint has disappeared, yes I am one of the few Sprint people, but works great where I am 95% of the time. I tried reaching support, but could not find an email or contact us easily. Any suggestions? And thank you for great app.
Best cell tower map I've found, but I want to toggle operators
by johnconnormcc on 2019/06/30 00:41
As someone who has at&t phone and Verizon hotspot service, I'd like to be able to toggle between operators in the cell tower map view so that I can see both at&t towers as well as Verizon towers on the map.
Lame
by Jerel2u on 2018/04/22 19:57
Great in theory. Major fail in practice. Trying to figure out which carrier has the best coverage in my area, but map does not allow selecting a carrier, only shows “all carriers” with no way to see which is which. I live on the coast and map shows a large number of cell towers... out in the ocean!! Looking out at the ocean, either they are using a Romulan cloaking device, or they don’t exist. So, app is useless for my purpose.
Bug report. (Surely another way)
by nearseattle on 2019/07/19 00:20
I have an iPhone 10xs with the esim connected to AT&T, active, and a European sim in the card slot, turned off. And, I am in Seattle. But the app thinks I want to use the European sim. Well, at least the app starts up, but beyond that, it is trying hard to use the European sim
Good app, but....
by Pakitt on 2018/02/23 14:10
If I leave the “contribute data in background” there is no hint of what the data usage will be on average to submit said data. Moreover when you leave the app, the iOS shows constantly a blue bar saying the app is using your location. Waze uses my location constantly and I don’t get nagged by the bar in the home screen. Last but not least, I see no arrow or location for any cell mast in the “find signal” tab. There is room for improvement. Pity because the app brings an important service.
Not like it used to be :c
by Jackson52990 on 2020/05/07 21:25
I used to love it. I needed it to find closed carrier towers and it did it better than any other app that tried. But then they took that away and now it’s just like every other speed test app. I don’t know what to think about it now :/
New app update removed important feature
by hank1354 on 2020/03/25 15:28
This app was very helpful for what I needed until the recent update. Now I cannot find the feature that uses a compass to point toward the cell tower my phone is connected to. I need this feature to install my cell signal amplifier in the right place.
Missing very important feature
by volnoboy on 2019/08/25 21:21
I can see the towers only of my own network, but I want to see all the towers, to consider what network I should switch to. Also, data regarding tower band(3g/4g) is not accurate. According to the app nearest tower to me is 3g/4g, but in reality it’s 3g only.
Add e-sim support & fix speed test
by Kiddobenn01 on 2019/08/31 05:40
Please add e-sim support. I switched my AT&T physical SIM card to an e-sim & the app shows that my service is Verizon. Also, when doing a speed test it takes forever to get it started. It’s been acting up with the recent updates.
Speed rating
by Jp23456jhf on 2019/07/25 20:27
This app does a good job on actual speeds. Much more accurate then Okla. I do not think it does very well on map reporting I’ve used this for over a year and the reports I’ve sent in this small town do not show up correctly.
Speed test not consistent or accurate
by Not fun a higher levels on 2017/11/03 04:39
I am a Tech Expert in cell service industry. Using several speed tests to find the true speed on any network. Open signal is 15-23 Mbps slower than other tests. This is not a reliable test. I tried it many times and tested other speed testing web sites and apps, this cannot be used for accurate testing.
Has gotten much worse

Surprisingly Useless
by philozopher on 2019/10/07 00:19
I was hoping to get a sense of my distance from nearby cell towers, but this app cannot do that. It will test your speed, it seems to be designed simply for the purposes of providing data to OpenSignal and very little use for the individual. Don’t waste your time.
Finally on iPhone X again!!!
by DeliKid on 2018/02/27 15:46
I’ve used open signal for years. With the last update (Feb 27) the app now fully works on the iPhone X! Thanks!
Deleted
Don’t update if you have an older version
by Tirimisu dirndls on 2020/05/13 05:39
The only thing I found useful with this app was the cell tower pointer. I used it to point a Weboost cellular booster towards the antenna. The new app update removed this feature. Why? Just why.
