The quality and the information given is excellent. However, every 10 minutes you get three minutes of commercials. Somebody has to pay, and commercials running on an excellent program is going to make them money. A great show, And great entertainment.

I love the history channel but this app just freezes and won’t load back up for at least 10 mins . i’m connected to wifi, i have deleted and re-installed . it’s a shame because i love the actual channel

I love the content on History, but the long, frequent commercial segments are very annoying. I realize you have to monetize, but watching the same ads over and over make it more irritating than effective. Even ads that I would consider well done become frustrating to watch.

Every night I fall asleep to the kooky commentary and familiar formula of Ancient Aliens or The UnXplained. The app is about as straightforward as you could hope a network-related app to be. So if you’re into the History Channel’s programming, go ahead and download the app.

As much as I love the content provided by the History Channel their app keeps giving me fits. At least on third of the shows I try to stream keep displaying an “unknown error”. The only workaround I’ve found is to completely delete the app and reinstall it. Sorry History, none of your content is worth that.

App is unusable now. Have to constantly back out and go back into shows due to audio/video desync. This happens about 5-8 times per episode. Never happened on previous updates. If you manage to deal with this crap, you get a cool surprise where entire segments of episodes are missed because the ad segment fast forwards to the ‘next’ ad segment. How this garbage has been on the App Store for 6 days without an update blows my mind.

I have the app on my Apple TV to watch History Channel shows. The app will freeze and you will have to either back out of the program and try to start it again or sometimes you won’t get the chance to try that because the app will close itself completely. There are a lot of commercials, they offer ‘interactive’ commercials where you only watch a single commercial but you have to interact with it to close it. Problem is that after interacting with the commercial it will still show you more commercials anyway. All that is nothing compared to the audio constantly coming out of sync with the video. The audio will glitch and jump backward 15-20 seconds, but the video keeps going. The only way to fix it is to back out of the program and go back in. It will happen over and over again in a single episode. Sometimes every 3-5 minutes. I like the content on the app. But they need to fix the bugs.

Why have and pay money for the app? Another app that forces you to subscribe to a TV provider to unlock episodes. Buy TV? What do we need an app for then? I know A&E gets a huge cut of money by their hidden agreement with bigTV. It is all about the money. Do not give into these kinds of companies folks. In time you will be giving all your hard earned money to this empire. Remove and block their content. Then maybe they will think of the small guy.
Doesn’t work Constant Error Code

Update: I found a fix to this error code. After deleting this app and reinstalling this app for the second time, I signed out of my tv provider and signed back in. It was a bit of a challenge to figure it out on my own but I managed. I keep getting a constant error code “0066: No Account Returned From UPDA” when trying to watch Pawn Stars, although When playing Oak Island, I don’t get the error code whatsoever. I Deleted app and reinstalled app and still getting same error. The History Channels website won’t even recognize my account so I can’t watch on the iMac. I’ve tried everything and even contacted Directv and they said it’s the History Channels issue and not theirs. Signed out of my device & signed back in along with changing account password and even turning off and turning back on device to see it that helped and still getting same error code. It seems that it only happens on 1 show and not the others. Again I tried playing Pawn Stars and that’s where I get the Error Code but when switching to Oak Island or any other show on the app I don’t get any error codes. There needs to be a fix for this

Watching on Apple TV - sound synch

This is the worst streaming app in all of history. Every single time I’m watching forged in fire (and usually 5 or 6 times) the sound skips and de-syncs with the video. It’s a 1-2 second jump. The only way to fix it it is to jump a huge amount to get it to reload the episode completely, then jump back to where it got off track again. It’s been this way for a year. On a side note there advertisement jump ins often mess up the synch and they sometimes play the same commercial upto 5 times in a row back to back. Using this app is torture and everyone involved in making it should be fired.

Love History programming, but the app makes it hard to enjoy. The commercial breaks will often repeat the same commercial 4-5 times during the same break...and at a higher volume. The video and audio get out of sync multiple times during one episode. You have to stop the show and resume. The app has never been great, but IMO this level of bugginess began with the optional interactive commercials. Regardless...History, do better!

History channel app delivers documentaries and shows I missed on the cable channel. The commercials are infrequent and not as long as the broadcast ones. Stream is consistent even includes casting to the television.

I don’t like how you have to pick a TV provider. I am on the go all the time, and don’t get to say at home a watch TV much. It’s would be easy to pick up my phone and turn on my favorite channel. But don’t like the way the history channel set it up. Not very good.

I love the history channel and quite a few shows on it. Being able to use my cable subscription to watch any show I want whenever I want is pretty cool. The problem lies in the execution of the app. I try to watch here on my phone and also on my Samsung 8 series tv using the built in App Store and also on an amazon fire stick. My internet connection is great. WiFi and data. The app is slow and sluggish, and within the first 15 minutes I always get and error message reading, “ an unknown error has occurred.” I’ve contacted the history channel twice regarding this issue and haven’t even heard back from there. They don’t have a customer service phone number listed anywhere on the site. I’d love it to get resolved so I can catch up on the curse of oak island and on alone, but don’t see that happening any time soon. The discovery channel app works great, ID go works great. Just wish the history channel app could work out whatever bugs they have, or even just respond to my message concerning my issues. Again, love the content, just bad follow through with the app itself.

Both this app / lifetime app on Apple TV have a glitch that after an advertisement the playback of the audio and video desynchronizes. Please fix ASAP.

I downloaded this app onto my Apple TV when I started to watch a History Channel original series. Though I was excited to watch this series I became a fan of on History, the headaches began as I started to watch. Frequently, and multiple times per episode, audio will desync from the video. This only way to fix this issue is to back out of the episode and then to restart it, resuming where I left off. What makes it worse, is that the app does not keep track of where you last were watching, constantly hopping between seasons OR episodes within a season. This means having to search around to find the right episode. Worse yet. At times, after the episode is restarted to fix the audio, the video will change it’s ratio to a 4:3 with a large big black box off the right 1/3 part of the screen. To fix that, again, I have to stop the episode again, deal with the issues mentioned in the previous paragraph, and hope and prey to some deity that it will work when I restart it again. Overall, I’m greatly disappointed by an app that has been released by such a large organization like the History Channel. I would come to hope to find something that works a lot better for a channel this large.

Sadly, as much as I want to watch a series that is only on this channel.....I can’t take it anymore with the streaming issues. I don’t mind watching commercials - it’s fair when I’m not paying for the app. HOWEVER-please fix the streaming on the ads. Whenever the ads break in, the streaming stops....and you stare at the first screen of the ad....sometimes after a long pause it starts up again. But then the next ad comes on and it stops again. By the third ad, you may have to close the app. Then when you re-open to start again. Guess what, you have to watch the same ads....or try to. Uhg! It is so frustrating and what might be a few minutes of ads here and there becomes the main time you are spending on the app. And not even watching the ads, just trying to get them to stream so you can watch them and get back to the show. I will try YouTube or wait for this series to make its way onto a decent streaming platform. See ya History channel.....your tech is dark ages and you are history for me.

Good app in general but in a 7 commercial block I saw the same commercial all 7 times. I am actively not going to buy Adidas now because of that. I don’t mind commercials, I know they support the programs, but this kind of thing is annoying and very amateur hour. There is really no excuse for it.

Love the content but this app is almost impossible to use and enjoy. Outside of watching the same ads over and over after each one I am forced to close out as the stream will not play through the ads and into the next segment. I have to relaunch 6 times a show. Why does it not just continue to stream. What ever is going on in the background really makes the viewing enjoyment a horrible experience. In my opinion it’s not usable.

Overall the app is okay and I appreciate the History Chanel making a platform to allow the ability to watch shows online but please dial back the frequent and lengthy commercials. It really takes away from the experience and it becomes a chore to watch. Update, the app frequently freezes in the middle of the many ads. When you restart, guess what, you have to watch the ad again. Also, very disappointed that some of the history channels programs are not on Discovery+ so I’m forced to use this crappie app.

There is an ad that begins with a mom and her two kids in bed, "Tavi" or some pharma brand, that breaks the streaming platform every single time it is served. You should really be monitoring the ads being served better, because the only option is to close the app and use a better streaming platform once that problem ad is served.

I rated a 3 only because they need to fix their ads from freezing or get rid of the ads completely. It is only the medication ads that freeze and sometimes you can’t even get through the ads to finish your show. It is frustrating putting 40 minutes into a show just to not finish it.

Like others have said, way too many commercials. I don’t mind the commercials when I’m actually watching a show, but it shows commercials when you are just trying to find your place. To pick back up on a show you stopped half way through, you might have to watch 24 commercials because every little segment you fast forward through trips a set of 6. They need to base the number of commercials on the actual watch time. You even get commercials sometimes after rewinding?!?!

I get that commercials pay the bills. That being said, there is no reason to advertise for the on demand function while watching an on demand show. Especially if the commercial is for the show you are in the middle of. The amount of commercials is insane for a streaming/ on demand platform.

I really like that the History channel has decided to join the streaming service community. They have a great variety of pretty much all the shows you see on the History channel through a TV service provider. However, i’m a bit disappointed that you have to have a TV Service provider in order to get any access above the very few select episodes they offer for free. I wish they would follow suit to the other streaming services and offer a monthy, tri-monthy, 1/2 year, or a year’s subscription plan at some rate for those that do not have a TV service provider, but would like access to these shows. With the vast array of streaming services becoming more and more available, I believe it is only a matter of time before streaming services completely take over from TV service provider’s. My family is finding that it is much cheaper to pay for the tailored channels and streaming services we like, often at a much cheaper rate than tv service providers. For that reason, we are trying to do away with our own tv service provider. But the fact that History Live requires you to have a Tv service provider does not make that option readily available to those following this path, or simply unable to have tv service. I believe the history channel would be able to profit much more and attract a greater audience if they offered membership rates (monthly, 3-months, 6-months, 1 year) in addition to the free option already available if you have a tv service provider.

I get it it’s a free app but there are way too many commercials and they repeat way too often. There will be the same ad that repeats over the course of an episode 6+ times. Then there’s times where the episode doesn’t load even after closing the app and reloading it. And sometimes the sound and picture doesn’t line up. Love the content on the app which is the only reason I continue to use.

The shows are great, but I’ll never watch the History Channel app again. Not only do I have to sit through at least a dozen ads during the show, 90% of them are the same 3 prescription drug commercials. Over. And. Over. I swear the drug companies pay History to only ever stream their ads in HD or better, because my internet isn’t always the fastest (I’m in the woods) so the show is usually low-res (240-480p). The result is that the whole app freezes because it can’t download the high data rate commercials. App deleted.

After days of watching the same commercials, I can tell you I will never buy: another Buick, a gmc truck, or tide. But really, I’ve seen the same commercials hundreds of times after binge watching ancient aliens. Bravo for making me HATE this products and all the music on EVERY.SINGLE.ONE. This app needs to make money, I get it! But there are more ads than content. The worst part is: if you are trying to find where you left off, you have to watch all the adds multiple times just to find the right place. You’re literally better off starting from the beginning every time you switch devices.

First off, if the time isn’t perfect on your device, the app will not load. Not too bad, but still annoying. Second, there should not be more than a few ads on a show from 2011, let alone 9! Lastly, repeating ads 3, 4, or even 5 times isn’t going to convince anyone to buy a product or watch a show. It’s just going to annoy people....

This app is awful. I stream a lot and this is the only app that can never make it through an episode without buffering to no end so I have to stop and get back in, then it’s near impossible to get back to the place you were at—so you have to watch a ton of commercials AGAIN to get back to where you were. It will also freeze for no reason and then the same thing again—-commercials until you can get back to where you were. Sometimes it takes 3 or 4 tries to get back in to watch the show, it’s very frustrating and I often just abandon watching whatever I was watching. What’s the point of ‘signing in’ when shows are not saved and the app does not show what I have watched? No, it is not my ISP. This is a very buggy app. Wait until it’s fixed to download. Why don’t you take a hint from other apps that do this quite well—Netflix comes to mind.

Update: I received a response to my previous review and now the app seems to be working. Original review: (1 star) No videos load on apple 4K devices. I have 2 4ks and 2 3ed gen. They play fine on my 3ed gens but no videos load on the 4ks. I’v contacted history channel and after a week of emails back and forth I was told “ at this time we are unable to find a solution and have forwarded this to our engineers.”

I’m constantly having to stop/start episodes because the audio gets out of sync with the video. The way they do ads is also really annoying. Stuff like this is why so many people turn to downloading.

Love the shows, but the streaming service is really bad. Very slow to load just the Home Screen, then when it finally loads it takes for ever to scroll through the seasons and episodes. Need to massively improve the quality of their streaming interface.
Audio issues on Apple TV

The app is good, wish there weren’t so many commercials but it is what it is. I find that a couple of times in an episode that the audio will repeat a segment while the video continues forward. This causes a delay in audio that will not fix itself. I have to back out of the episode and go back in for it to fix itself, only for it to happen again in about 5 minutes. Please fix this

I love all the shows on the history channel but the app has a limited number of those shows. So when you get invested on a season and find out that they don’t have the second half of that season or even the first half of the next season on it’s kind of annoying. And for whatever reason it is extremely difficult to find the shows anywhere else. Seems kind of dumb not providing your own content.

Had many issues with not casting to chromecast, seems like they’ve finally fixed; however when you cast you have to manually select the next episode from the Home Screen each time. When you stop watching and want to play later, the recently watched / start where you left off is always an episode or two behind so useless. Basically wouldn’t use if I could watch the shows elsewhere.

Down loaded the History App to watch the Alone series. I have it cast to the TV via airplay. The shows play, but eventually at one of the numerous commercial breaks it just starts blinking on and off. I can restart the shows and continue from that point for maybe 10 minutes before it hangs up again. Streaming is an awful way to watch TV.

So the commercials are a little annoying but I get it. But my problem is that sometimes it gets stuck in a never ending loop of commercials, sometimes the exact same commercial. Also the commercials freeze the app. Literally have had the same episode freeze on the exact same commercial 5+ times just now. Which is why I’m here writing this review. Killing the app does not fix the problem. It plays a set of commercials and once it’s back to the one it freezes on... BAM. Frozen and won’t load. Fix this app. History channel makes enough money to provide a half descent app. If you can’t I’d rather you not even have the app as an option.

Extremely not useable to watch on your bloody phone or tablet. Keeps wanting a cable tv provider and if you’ve got only an antenna then you’re screwed‼️ I’ve watched so many of these shows before but that’s when we live in town and had a cable service hook-up, but nothing but my phone service out here in the sticks.

I’m a huge fan of history. It captures the imagination and draws you into places and times we could never have envisioned on our own. My absolute favorite show on History Channel is The Curse of Oak Island. I’m so afraid something will happen to stop the search. As Rick has said, I believe that the island holds secrets as important as the famed treasure. Like Gary, I believe that it’s just right there, a step away. I will miss Dave Blankenship. He always has a way of getting a smile. Every member of the team is equally important to the whole. Tonight I watch the latest episode on my iPad because my TiVo didn’t record. Yes, I said a few cuss words like Dave, but I am thrilled that there is a way for me to capture that episode without waiting for a rerun. I know the commercials are annoying, but at least I can watch my best show. I’ve had a bit of an issue with commercials that freeze up, not sure why, but after 3-4 minutes I rebooted. I’m thankful for the way History is presented and honored. And I realize while watching Oak Island that I am watching new history unfold. If Rick and Marty and the guys need it, I’d be happy to send a few dollars just for the thrill of the hunt. When I was in high school in the 1970’s I worked in the school library a lot. I was able to rescue all of the old Reader’s Digests that were about to be discarded. I took my hoard home and began going through the old issues. I have read the original article about Oak Island in the January 1965 issue. I remember wishing they let girls look for treasure. I thought how wonderful it would be to find something long thought forgotten. I wish you all the best. Brenda from Arkansas

I love this app - I can stream my favorite shows when I’m ready to watch. Has a huge selection of programs to watch. However, and I know commercials pay the bills, but there are a lot of them. That’s the only drawback - otherwise, 5 stars!!!!

This is why I have the app. I have been fascinated by Oak Island for years. I’m not fond of the commercials though. They freeze up, take time away from the information being given on Oak Island. The commercials are repetitious and boring. If I could breeze through them I would. I really tried to watch some of the off shoots of Oak Island, but couldn’t because I didn’t have pass codes, or the episode was locked. That was a little disappointing.

I get ads are necessary but holy manoley! I just had a 9 ad commercial break! Keep it to a solid 1 or 2, at the frequency the ads are put in that should be plenty. I spend ad breaks browsing my phone not even paying attention, if it were one or two I could deal and actually sit through them.

App requires me to select my tv provider each time and website won’t play another show at all. The app also rarely plays two vids in a row without an error code, even on an iPhone 12. Sent a requests weeks ago and nothing. Their web person should be fired. I have over a dozen tv/movie apps that all work perfectly. Hire someone competent and you won’t have this problem

I had to sit through 12 on one “break” because your app froze. YouTube has you watch 2 ads for 5 seconds and then the show comes back. Is your business doing so poorly that we need to endure this pain? I think I am going to stop watching your shows.

Love the History channel, hate commercials taking up so much time! Vikings is my fave, can’t get enough, but you see 2 maybe 3 scenes and then boom! you’re bombarded with umpteen commercials! Give us a break! More show, less commercials. It would also be nice to see more historical period pieces like Vikings, as there are many of us who love love love ancient history. Not a big fan of the re-enactment shows though. The History app is great, but there is a lot of black screen and once again, those horrid commercials! When something is first run on TV, advertisers are getting their commercials on at that time. Why do we have to endure the same thing online? I really like that the History channel has decided to join the streaming service community. They have a great variety of pretty much all the shows you see on the History channel through a TV service provider. However, i’m a bit disappointed that you have to have a TV Service provider in order to get any access above the very few select episodes they offer for free. I wish they would follow suit to the other streaming services and offer a monthy, tri-monthy, 1/2 year, or a year’s subscription plan at some rate for those that do not have a TV service provider, but would like access to these shows. With the vast array of streaming services becoming more and more available, I believe it is only a matter of time before streaming services completely take over from TV service provider’s. My family is finding that it is much cheaper to pay for the tailored channels and streaming services we like, often at a much cheaper rate than tv service providers. For that reason, we are trying to do away with our own tv service provider. But the fact that History Live requires you to have a Tv service provider does not make that option readily available to those following this path, or simply unable to have tv service. I believe the history channel would be able to profit much more and attract a greater audience if they offered membership rates (monthly, 3-months, 6-months, 1 year) in addition to the free option already available if you have a tv service provider.
Hopeful of a great app, semi-decent at best.

I downloaded this app onto my Apple TV when I started to watch a History Channel original series. Though I was excited to watch this series I became a fan of on History, the headaches began as I started to watch. Frequently, and multiple times per episode, audio will desync from the video. This only way to fix this issue is to back out of the episode and then to restart it, resuming where I left off. What makes it worse, is that the app does not keep track of where you last were watching, constantly hopping between seasons OR episodes within a season. This means having to search around to find the right episode. Worse yet. At times, after the episode is restarted to fix the audio, the video will change it’s ratio to a 4:3 with a large big black box off the right 1/3 part of the screen. To fix that, again, I have to stop the episode again, deal with the issues mentioned in the previous paragraph, and hope and prey to some deity that it will work when I restart it again. Overall, I’m greatly disappointed by an app that has been released by such a large organization like the History Channel. I would come to hope to find something that works a lot better for a channel this large.

I have the app on my Apple TV to watch History Channel shows. The app will freeze and you will have to either back out of the program and try to start it again or sometimes you won’t get the chance to try that because the app will close itself completely. There are a lot of commercials, they offer ‘interactive’ commercials where you only watch a single commercial but you have to interact with it to close it. Problem is that after interacting with the commercial it will still show you more commercials anyway. All that is nothing compared to the audio constantly coming out of sync with the video. The audio will glitch and jump backward 15-20 seconds, but the video keeps going. The only way to fix it is to back out of the program and go back in. It will happen over and over again in a single episode. Sometimes every 3-5 minutes. I like the content on the app. But they need to fix the bugs.

I can only say that when we studied things like the “Roaring 20’s,The Depression,The Boston Tea Party,The Roman Empire, right on back to when the Dinosaurs roamed the Earth” and we as children could not escape from the exciting things we were being taught, only a lot of the ways we were taught was matter of factly very boring. I really liked it when there was a film, even fact filled documentaries were great. As valuable as a books knowledge can be, they’ll never be as interesting as someone else doing the reading and telling about it. Ever since I can remember and before is how far back my true desire to be next to GOD goes. Now with that being said, Please History Channel Accept My Full Hearted Thankfulness!!!! You Make History Fun!! I Sincerely hope that you continue to be a large part of the knowledge that we seek the most. Knowledge of Ourselves!!!!

This review is for the tvOS app. No complaints about the shows on History Channel. In the tvOS app they look and sound fine. But the UX in the app is rough and riddled with bugs. 1. Constantly repeats the same show segments after an ad. I suspect this is triggered by the ad insertion system as it only seems to happen after fast forwarding through a show segment (which typically triggers a commercial). This happens a LOT! 2. So many commercials. It is almost unbearable to see the same commercial this many times. Forcing viewers to sit through the same commercial 15 times during an episode is bad business. Binge watching? I hope you’re ok watching a commercial a hundred times or more. 3. Mediocre navigating. I have to work harder than I’d expect to find what I want to watch in this app. 4. I have to log in / activate every other time I launch the tvOS app. Super annoying and time consuming. Multiple AppleTV’s have the same issue. 5. TvOS app doesn’t always remember what episodes I’ve watched so I’m constantly guessing which episode was last viewed. Add to this the issues above with fast forwarding and I’ve spent longer trying to get to the last 5 minutes of an episode than the length of the episode itself. I’m still using the app to binge some of my favorite shows but the bugs and UX issues make it a lot more difficult than it should be.

Capturing history and preserving it for the next generations is what it is all about. If only I had such a TV series like this when I was a young boy I believe I would be standing next to Rick and Marty. My admiration of such conviction is what drives my anticipation for the next episode. I wish our younger generation would have an educational system which would instill such a drive and determination. This series is a credit to the success of the History channel. Trying to solve mysteries and uncovering artifacts is what dreams are all about. Without dreams and aspirations man does not move forward. Keep the struggle for mankind moving forward through the Oak Island and other Templar related series. Keep the legends and intrigue burning dreams into our minds. Wishing I could see this without paying because my income is to low for such things. Have no cable at all. The antenna doesn’t get you hardly anything at all. What you do get is just terrible. Can’t believe they would dumb us down this way or at all. We are being influenced by what we see n hear and if you can’t or won’t see n hear you won’t learn anything at all. Our world is based on knowledge and learning for process. How are we to better ourselves without the proper information. Love this channel and miss it dearly. Just found this app and I’m watching what there is free. Thank you for that much. It’s nice and wish it were free for all of it. Commercials are to much to long. Please be considerate about this.
Way Way Way Too Many Ads

Where do I begin? This is the first app I have ever given less than 5 stars. The History App has it all: the good, the bad, and the ugly. The good part is that I can watch the shows I love anytime I want anywhere I want. The bad news is that sometimes the app is glitchy and I have to restart my Apple TV to get it to work properly. The ugliest piece of the puzzle is the exhausting amount of ads as of late. I was completely OK with 3 (often repetitious) ads during each break, but now it has doubled to 6 (often repetitious) ads during the 5 breaks on a 40 min show. After reading recent reviews, I find most customers are feeling the same way I do. However, I do not believe History knows or cares what the viewers want. If the app continues down this path, then I fear that soon it will finally live up to its name and become HISTORY!

Apparently I’m suppose to create a review of this app or channel or Shows. It must be extremely difficult to fill a 24/7 channel with shows with an unknown projected budget from Advertising and Payed cable .From that aspect you have to deploy a budget sparingly and support certain project and kill them off if ratings come back unfulfilling .But how long to give each project a chance would be by each shows Budget . If they can not self sustain themselves by ratings and budget you would have to terminate the program. From this aspect I find your channel to be going work . I only enjoy one or two of your shows. project blue book being one of them. Thank you for the entertainment.

This app is awful. I stream a lot and this is the only app that can never make it through an episode without buffering to no end so I have to stop and get back in, then it’s near impossible to get back to the place you were at—so you have to watch a ton of commercials AGAIN to get back to where you were. It will also freeze for no reason and then the same thing again—-commercials until you can get back to where you were. Sometimes it takes 3 or 4 tries to get back in to watch the show, it’s very frustrating and I often just abandon watching whatever I was watching. What’s the point of ‘signing in’ when shows are not saved and the app does not show what I have watched? No, it is not my ISP. This is a very buggy app. Wait until it’s fixed to download. Why don’t you take a hint from other apps that do this quite well—Netflix comes to mind.

This show is watch by country boys and hunters , out door people. I think you need to make sure the contestants have the skills that allows us to learn from . The woman that left because of the hook in her had was a shame all county boys have took a hook out of their hand it’s a simple thing to do . When she lashed the knife to her arm let us know she’s miles behind the average country boy in skills . I won’t to see people that don’t just survive but thrive in the woods . They still lack the knowledge to use the fish to kill a bear . To hunt at night when the animals are walking threw their camp . I love the show it’s great Just my adopt make it better . I love History and also love this app, but felt like it too much commercial on the 1 episode. pop up every break time for 3-4 commercials in one break. it made me feel got interrupted more than enjoying. I don’t really mind much for having commercials during the show(maybe 1 break for 1 commercial), but this way is too much to take it. Worse case is sometime, I want to stop and end up with the show. that’s sad because I’m never get bored or want to give up for studying about History, but this app can make me feel on that way. Anyway, thank you for the good stories that you’re sharing.
Great look into past and present

Was recently on vacation in up state California and was seeing many logging trucks and lumber mills. My grand father was a lumberjack and ran a small saw mill in the 30’s and 40’s. As a kid I remember seeing some of his old hand saws and chain saws in the old barn. Watching the Ax Men series has enlightened me as to how hard and dangerous lumbering was and is. My hat goes off to people that have done and are still doing that difficult job. Many thanks to the History Channel for all the great programs they show. As for the concerns some people have about commercials, I believe it’s a small inconvenience for what we are getting in high quality entertainment.

I just finished watching Washington, on my 10 inch iPad, while on vacation. It was fantastic. It is such a pleasure to be able to relax in the comfort of your bedroom, and watch such a moving story, in beautiful HD. It was like reading a good book, in bed, at the end of a busy day. I had tears in my eyes by the end. The acting was excellent, as well as the whole movie production. I particularly liked everyone of the historians, they added such realism to the scenes. And not having an overwhelming amount of commercials was really appreciated. I will spread the word about this show. Every American needs to see this, and get a refresher course on how this country got started. Thank you.

The app and idea behind it is not bad. I like that I can easily catch up on shows that I haven’t seen. That being said it could be better. I use streaming services to avoid commercials. When using the app it has quite a few commercials in one block and it doesn’t have much variety. With a 45 minute show, I see the same series of commercials about 5 times. I understand that the app is free and that for some shows you don’t have to pay to be able to watch them, but the amount of commercials is slightly excessive. I also experience problems with the videos playing on my iPhone 6. Overall I am very happy with this app as I enjoy a fair amount of history channel shows.

I just finished watching/listening “The Food That Built America” via my Fios account, and I loved it. I’m working a long hours so I don’t mind the commercials because I wasn’t actually watching but more of listening. However, I do notice that the streaming process was great as there wasn’t any interruption at all. The reason I’m saying this because if I was watching my shows on my phone via fios top box while I’m home my shows get interrupted every 20-30 minute and it’s just spinning forever. I have to log back in again over and over. But watching History Channel today was no issues at all. I’m happy!

I love the history channel and the content they provide, American Pickers is probably my favorite show. But at least 5-10 times an episode of whichever show I’m watching the audio goes out of sync with the picture. I have to menu click out of the episode, then resume the same episode and it seems to work for a couple minutes then goes out of sync again. This is on tvOS, I don’t encounter this problem on iPadOS. I’m at a point of not using the Apple TV app anymore because of this. Also, holly smokes are there a lot of commercials! And they repeat over and over, if you’re bing watching get ready to see the same 5-10 commercials 50 plus times. Sometimes they will play the same one 4-5 times in a row!

Collect money from them and make your commercials much shorter. And don’t play the same one, over and over again. I got the message the first time. Just annoying and unnecessary. Please fix this ASAP! I love the shows on here, but the commercials, come on! I’m able to fast forward through them on my cable box. I’d like that Same option when watching on my phone through this app. Other than that, Great shows, keep up the good work. Please do something about all these long overly played commercials. Thanks

In theory, this app is simple, watch History Channel content on Apple TV. In practice it borders on unusable. Video streams repeatedly glitch out and repeat the last few seconds, after which the audio completely loses sync. To fix it you need to stop the stream, exit the app, go back to the stream, exit the stream to the episode menu and then restart the stream. I’m exhausted just typing all that. Now imagine having to do that it every. few. minutes. If that were not bad enough, once the video starts you call look forward to 8 or 9 ads in a row, you guessed it — every. few. minutes. Often it’s the same ad, 9 times in a row. If the goal is to make me hate a product and the History Channel brand, then mission accomplished. Recently they added a NEW ad feature. Now they completely pause the program to ask me if I want an “interactive ad” instead of the 9 usual ads. If I say yes another ad runs, then makes me hit play again. After which I still see, you guessed it, ANOTHER ad. So to recap, now I have to constantly use the remote just to get through an endless stream of ads in the hopes of catching a couple minutes of a show here and there. It’s ridiculous and unwatchable.
Apple TV app audio doesn’t match video/captions

I can’t speak for the iPhone or iPad apps, but the Apple TV app leaves a lot to desire. Every few minutes of watching The Curse of Oak Island the audio repeats itself and lags behind the video and captioning. In order to fix it, you have to exit the video and start playing again until the same thing happens again moments later. Another frustration is if you choose to watch an interactive ad vs multiple regular ads , the screen doesn’t return to full size and plays the show on about 2/3s of the screen-also only fixable by exiting and replaying the episode. This is especially disappointing since this is a service I pay for. I would love a seamless watching experience please. I don’t think that’s too much to ask.

I completely agree with some of the other reviews that I have read here regarding the commercials! I absolutely love the HISTORY app and all the wonderful shows that they provide but the commercials are ridiculous! I can understand throwing one or two in there throughout the show but the amount of commercials is too much! We are viewing online not on live television where the advertisers have already promoted. So that is my one suggestion for making the app better! Thank you for all of your wonderful programming with shows like Alone, Mountain Men, Vikings, The UnXplained and many more!!

I like several of the shows on the history channel and this is a way to catch up on those i have missed. But the number and repetition of the commercials has driven me off of this app. I too have experienced the black screen malady but i had to delete the app and reload it to regain control of the app. I thought seriously about deleting the app altogether but haven't done so yet. However, i have not used the app since that time principally because of the number and repetition of the commercials. I was no even able to fast forward through the commercials nor even be able to see just how much time they ran. Sorry! If i need the memory this will be the first app to go. How are they going to get their commercials seen if the viewers do not use the app?

Liked the app at first. I could catch up on the shows I didn't have time to watch at original air. Tried watching an episode tonight and I got through about 7 min with only a few commercials. Then it happened, 12 commercials back to back. And they were all car dealers or wealth management people who were nowhere near my local area. I exited out of the app and closed it. Only to return to the same nonsense when I reopened it. I let it run to see just how many ads it would try to force me to view. But after 15 more, I shut it down and deleted the app. I realize you guys are selling advertising and the shows are only there to get people to see the ads, but how greedy do you have to be to run so many ads compared to such little content?

C’mon, I figured watching ads is what everyone wants to do. By the way this app works, I would swear the purpose was to watch ads. Developers- if you’re sick of reading about ads, imagine how your customers feel after paying for access. This review is supposed to be about the app, but it’s little more than ads. I really like the show Alone. Unfortunately most of the seasons are only on the History App. The app has a TON of commercials throughout each episode. If you ever get off the app halfway through an episode often it’ll forget where you were. That means you have to scrub through and guess where you left off. And guess what, if you scrub through one of the designed commercial breaks looking for where you last were, BAM another commercial. Sometimes you can opt for the 30 second “interactive” commercial. I can get over the annoying Trump ads, but often the interactive part isn’t working and you can’t move forward to your show, even after restarting the app. Definitely the worst streaming app I’ve ever used.

I downloaded the app and tried watching a show to catch up on it however I was only able to get through half the episode. The episodes are interrupted by commercials every five minutes. At one point I there were five commercials back to back and then the screen went black without the episode resuming. I then had to close down the app and reopen it to watch my show. The video resumed without issues, unfortunately it was the commercials that started playing again and not the episode. The same thing repeated itself, several commercials and then a black screen! I repeated the process twice more with the same results and then gave up. There's no point creating an app like this if these are the results! Don't waist your time downloading it!

I really love the shows the History Channel produces. Being able to watch them on my phone is just too cool. Even includes a few commercials but far fewer then when watching tv but what I don’t like is the limiting of how many episodes I can watch without including my tv service provider. Why? If I have the app why can’t I watch the programs I want to watch? Either make people pay for the app or let them watch the shows. Keep Up the great programming though...I love Vikings and now Knightfall but just watched Ancient Impossible. I will be looking for that on the tv as I really like it.

I’ve always loved History Channel. I’m a huge fan of “The Curse of Oak Island” and I think the new show will be fascinating! What a turn of tide to be searching the oceans archeologically and proving so much of our past. I do have a complaint, however. You know I pay a lot to have tier two so I can see all the history channels. Then your app came out. Love it!! But now you have the Vault and the new Ancient History Channel and I can’t watch either even though I’m tier two. If I pay for this outside my cable bill, will I get all of them?

Seems to be okay as an iPhone app, you can pick up where you left off on episodes but I primarily only use it as an app on my tv and it’s not great for that. Even being logged in to your profile, it won’t save the shows you’ve been watching so you have to search for them each time. Sound often cuts off during the ads which, who cares, but will carry over as no sound when the show comes back. Will not auto play the next episode. Freezes and then says connection error. You back out and press play again and it’s fine. Very annoying app and yes, it plays the same ads over and over and over.

Well, to start off with I’m a history nerd. I have been since I was a kid (60 now!). So I’ve always been an avid viewer of this channel. For me, it just doesn’t get any better. Their coverage of different eras in world history keeps it fresh. And, they’re not afraid to take on difficult topics sometimes. I respect that in a media company. I may not always agree with their view or final conclusions, but I wouldn’t expect to 100% of the time. But for viewing interesting shows about the history of our country and world, you can’t get any better.

i assume this app was made right alongside with the lifetime app and am not surprised with the glitching. it does the same stuff the lifetime app does. never saves to the right place when i stop watching an episode, constantly buffers, has an excessive amount of adds (that would be bearable if everything else wasn’t so upsetting), will glitch and it skips to the end of the episode (when i never watched it in the first place), and skips to random parts of an episode. it just kept skipping to the end of an episode that i haven’t watched yet! it would automatically skip to the end when it’s done loading. it does this when i watch it on my phone and even more with chrome cast. just disappointing
App and Website are not running properly

I just downloaded the app in anticipation of the premier of Project Blue Book. I made a profile and got the free 3 credits. But I decided to try and then gain access to full library by selecting my TV provider. When I selected the button for the list of tv providers, the app just loads indefinitely. When I try to sign out of my account, the app loads indefinitely. I tried to go through the website and when I opted to sign in with a TV provider, the website just loaded the homepage again. Not great service for customers if it’s virtually impossible and doesn’t cooperate. I don’t even want to try and use the free 3 credits, not confident those will work either. I will be deleting the app and I guess I’ll have to find another way to catch episodes.

I get that they make money on advertising, but really!? Are so many commercials needed. I watch more commercials than shows. The ads are in Spanish half of the time and I can’t even understand them. How am I supposed to even be interested in the ads you are cramming down my throat if I don’t even understand what is going on in the ad? Tell marketing to get their stuff together. The other issues I have are with the tech department: When switching from show to commercial, the volume gets unbelievably loud and physically hurts my ears. The transition back to the show does not go smoothly and usually ends with me having to close and restart the app because there is no audio after a commercial break. Please get it together.

Just watched “Project Blue Book” thanks, I grew up during those times an believe me when I say “ GREAT JOB” I have been watching History for as long as it has been an app an Chanel my favorite 5 star is Ancient Aliens Series I cant get enough, SO HAPPY when it finally was entered in the app! Men Who Built America series and The Frontier was amazing an real history, REAL history is my life, Pawn Stars could go away, I live in Vegas an, they aren't that nice, but they r yours, In all your app an channel are apart of my what i watch Thank U for “no more” interactive ads 🙄 Respectfully Suzanna
Great hunting education

We have been able to re-learn old hunting methods of our childhood and share with our grandsons and great grandsons. History puts these stories together in such detail that it brings the details of our teenage years clearly to our mind. We have studied hard the blacksmith programs from History as we have trained and turned over our blacksmith shop to our grandchildren and now are doing the same thing with our trapping and hunting equipment. Thank you History for such excellent, authentic, programming!!
Some great shows but viewer needs TONs of work

It’s great to be able to watch Vikings to catch up but with so many commercials, and the app/video playback crashing randomly (so you have to watch repeated commercials) it can take 75 plus minutes to get through an episode. It starts to make it frustrating to watch the show and not worth the effort. The playback viewer needs a lot of work including compatibility with Apple TV and continuous playback while the phone is locked besides the crashing/ failing issues. All in all just over a score of don’t even bother. If it’s your only way to watch the new season, have your stress ball at the ready.

So the commercials are a little annoying but I get it. But my problem is that sometimes it gets stuck in a never ending loop of commercials, sometimes the exact same commercial. Also the commercials freeze the app. Literally have had the same episode freeze on the exact same commercial 5+ times just now. Which is why I’m here writing this review. Killing the app does not fix the problem. It plays a set of commercials and once it’s back to the one it freezes on... BAM. Frozen and won’t load. Fix this app. History channel makes enough money to provide a half descent app. If you can’t I’d rather you not even have the app as an option.

First I’ll say that I don’t dislike the shows that are available, I actually like them a lot (Only reason this doesn’t get a 1 star). That isn’t the issue here though. The amount of ads that play during a show are ridiculous though. I’ll go over just a single episode of something I watched recently. At the 11 minute mark I got my first ad break with 1 minute of ads. No problem there At the 24:30 minute mark I got another ad break, with 2:30 worth of ads. That was a quick jump. At the 28:10 minute mark I got the third ad break with 2:55 worth of ads. That’s almost as much as the 3:30 of show I watched since the last break. Then I got an ad break at the 34:30 minute mark with 3:05 worth of ads. Finally at the 38:10 mark I got another 3:05 worth of ads. It’s honestly crazy how many ads I got, and how frequently. If your ads add up to over 25% watch time of an episode, it’s a huge problem. It will never be fixed probably, but that’s fine since I won’t be using this service anymore.
Having technical issues with this app again

After watching the multiple shows about the Templars I recalled another History channel show about Templars and a pirate connection. I used the app to locate the show and I am now experiencing technical issues. The app worked well up to the second set of commercials in the first episode. Then the app crashed and ended in a loop of showing me two commercials then crashing. I decided to login with my TV provider in an attempt to resolve. It is still stuck in the same commercial loop then crashes. I deleted the app and down loaded it again. I started watching the same episode from the start again and this time it entered the same commercial loop at the first commercial break.

I was watching project blue book. After signing in with my provider. I watch about half of them. Then all of a sudden it will not load any episodes. The loading sign just sits on the screen forever. It loaded before. But now it is just does not work. Other shows will load. Just not project blue book. Also the commercials are ridiculous. Too many and literally the same horrible bud light commercial over and over 5 times in a row. Then the next block of commercials is the same bud light commercials again and again and again and again and again.... and then again and again and again and again and again.
No cross platform sync, too many commercials,  tv app is worse.

The app on iPhone doesn’t sync with the Apple TV app so when you start a video, you have to wait through at least 5 commercials before you can get to the spot where you left off at? That’s if the screen doesn’t go black and you need to restart, then more commercials. The Apple TV app is even worse, they updated it and it no longer shows new episodes available. I have to scroll down to each show to see if a new episode is available now for each and every show. The app also logs out of my dish subscription and I constantly go days before it will let me log in again.

I was hoping to continue watching “The Curse of Oak Island” after my satellite carrier dropped all the earlier seasons on demand. I just found this show on Directv today with over 40 Episodes on demand. I watched the first 3 Episodes of season one and really enjoyed the series then I took a break to fix dinner. When I came back to my tv to continue watching, there were no episodes on demand any longer. I am aware that season 5 started tonight but I will not watch season 5 until I can watch the previous seasons and since only the first 3 Episodes of season 1 are available on the History Channel, I will not be watching the rest of them. Therefore, I will not be starting any more series on the History Channel.

I have learned so much from each person in the show. It is so interesting and never boring. Learning how are ancestors made things and lived it makes u realize they were tough and they had to have skills because a store wasn’t around the corner. I like u show the good and the bad just like in real life. Thanks to all for a great show I hope keeps going. I miss Marty and his trapping but I respect that he wants time with his family and he did what he thought was right for his family. Good for them.

I love the history channel programming, but I absolutely hate this app. I’ve seen better designed apps by kids. It’s not user friendly, it doesn’t keep track of the shows you have watched or your progress of what you are watching if you have to pause and step away. It plays more commercials than if you were watching live and tends to play the same commercial several times over and over again. I saw the same Buick commercial 6 times in the same commercial break, literally 6 times over and over again. If you enjoy watching more commercials than programming then this is the app for you!

I would start watching another one of your series, but with this experience, no way. 72 commercials for a 44 minute show is ridiculous!! With the app on my iPad, I stream to my AppleTV, because the app says it is "Apple TV compatible." However, the "Interactive ad" feature is not available through AppleTV. So instead, I have to watch 6 commercials (many repeating) then get a black screen. Seems like it s waiting for a response but there is no interacting w AppleTV... just an error message. Try to find a work around and adjust where I was in the show, and I have to watch the 6 commercials again and there's 5 commercial breaks... 72 commercials for a 44 minute show is ridiculous!!

I love the History Channel App! All of my favorite shows are available, many all the way back to season one through current season. I HATE THE VOLUME SPIKES WITH EVERY COMMERCIAL! I can’t get it turned down quickly enough to keep from blowing my ear drums if I am wearing my ear phones, or awakening the entire household if it is playing through speakers. SHAME ON YOU! Surely you have the wherewithal to prevent this, so I can only assume it is intentional. It is disrespectful of the viewers to have the sound blast without warning. If you had a visitor over to your home, and out of the blue she started yelling as loud as she could.... then returns to a quiet conversational voice until the desire hit her, and she started yelling again, you would be shocked at her rude behavior! And when you realized she was trying to get you to buy a vacuum she was selling at her garage sale, you would probably throw her out of your home on her ear. Well this app is just as rude. And that’s exactly what I’m going to do: throw it out.

I downloaded the app to binge Ancient Aliens which has 15+ seasons and 170+ episodes. For the life of me, I can’t figure out how to add your favorites to a watch list . And why isn’t the show in recently viewed /searched? Also if I pause a show halfway thru and come back to it later, it won’t resume where left off!! So I have to open app, sometimes log back in even within a 24 hr time frame, search for the show, the. Scroll thru every season and episode to get to what I was JUST watching yesterday. Not worth it to deal with all the commercials and frequent buffering issues!! ! Please fix these issues !! Many people have complained it seems it’s time to meet the demand of your customers! Thanks
Unwatchable More Commercials than Shows

Terrible. Don’t waste your time. Literally unwatchable. Shows are cut into short, 2-3 minute pieces and you must watch commercials before EACH segment that are almost as long as the video. HOW can they get away with jamming commercials down our throats after we authenticate (sign in with the credentials of) the provider we PAY for? We all need to let our providers know this is not acceptable and has gotten out of hand. I am a long time subscriber who loved the history channel since it started. No more. so many ads and interactive ads, the shows are literally unwatchable. Far more ads than when watching with DIRECTV. Why? I understand how ads work. We put up with them most of the time but The history channel has gone far beyond anything reasonable not to mention the obnoxious interactive ads which make no sense. I don’t know anybody who responds correctly so. Any advertisers using the results as market research are getting skewed results. The whole history channel experience has been, ruined. - SHK

I love the content on History, but the long, frequent commercial segments are very annoying. I realize you have to monetize, but watching the same ads over and over make it more irritating than effective. Even ads that I would consider well done become frustrating to watch.

Every night I fall asleep to the kooky commentary and familiar formula of Ancient Aliens or The UnXplained. The app is about as straightforward as you could hope a network-related app to be. So if you’re into the History Channel’s programming, go ahead and download the app.

As much as I love the content provided by the History Channel their app keeps giving me fits. At least on third of the shows I try to stream keep displaying an “unknown error”. The only workaround I’ve found is to completely delete the app and reinstall it. Sorry History, none of your content is worth that.

App is unusable now. Have to constantly back out and go back into shows due to audio/video desync. This happens about 5-8 times per episode. Never happened on previous updates. If you manage to deal with this crap, you get a cool surprise where entire segments of episodes are missed because the ad segment fast forwards to the ‘next’ ad segment. How this garbage has been on the App Store for 6 days without an update blows my mind.

I have the app on my Apple TV to watch History Channel shows. The app will freeze and you will have to either back out of the program and try to start it again or sometimes you won’t get the chance to try that because the app will close itself completely. There are a lot of commercials, they offer ‘interactive’ commercials where you only watch a single commercial but you have to interact with it to close it. Problem is that after interacting with the commercial it will still show you more commercials anyway. All that is nothing compared to the audio constantly coming out of sync with the video. The audio will glitch and jump backward 15-20 seconds, but the video keeps going. The only way to fix it is to back out of the program and go back in. It will happen over and over again in a single episode. Sometimes every 3-5 minutes. I like the content on the app. But they need to fix the bugs.

Why have and pay money for the app? Another app that forces you to subscribe to a TV provider to unlock episodes. Buy TV? What do we need an app for then? I know A&E gets a huge cut of money by their hidden agreement with bigTV. It is all about the money. Do not give into these kinds of companies folks. In time you will be giving all your hard earned money to this empire. Remove and block their content. Then maybe they will think of the small guy.
Doesn’t work Constant Error Code

Update: I found a fix to this error code. After deleting this app and reinstalling this app for the second time, I signed out of my tv provider and signed back in. It was a bit of a challenge to figure it out on my own but I managed. I keep getting a constant error code “0066: No Account Returned From UPDA” when trying to watch Pawn Stars, although When playing Oak Island, I don’t get the error code whatsoever. I Deleted app and reinstalled app and still getting same error. The History Channels website won’t even recognize my account so I can’t watch on the iMac. I’ve tried everything and even contacted Directv and they said it’s the History Channels issue and not theirs. Signed out of my device & signed back in along with changing account password and even turning off and turning back on device to see it that helped and still getting same error code. It seems that it only happens on 1 show and not the others. Again I tried playing Pawn Stars and that’s where I get the Error Code but when switching to Oak Island or any other show on the app I don’t get any error codes. There needs to be a fix for this

Watching on Apple TV - sound synch

This is the worst streaming app in all of history. Every single time I’m watching forged in fire (and usually 5 or 6 times) the sound skips and de-syncs with the video. It’s a 1-2 second jump. The only way to fix it it is to jump a huge amount to get it to reload the episode completely, then jump back to where it got off track again. It’s been this way for a year. On a side note there advertisement jump ins often mess up the synch and they sometimes play the same commercial upto 5 times in a row back to back. Using this app is torture and everyone involved in making it should be fired.

Love History programming, but the app makes it hard to enjoy. The commercial breaks will often repeat the same commercial 4-5 times during the same break...and at a higher volume. The video and audio get out of sync multiple times during one episode. You have to stop the show and resume. The app has never been great, but IMO this level of bugginess began with the optional interactive commercials. Regardless...History, do better!

I love the history channel and quite a few shows on it. Being able to use my cable subscription to watch any show I want whenever I want is pretty cool. The problem lies in the execution of the app. I try to watch here on my phone and also on my Samsung 8 series tv using the built in App Store and also on an amazon fire stick. My internet connection is great. WiFi and data. The app is slow and sluggish, and within the first 15 minutes I always get and error message reading, “ an unknown error has occurred.” I’ve contacted the history channel twice regarding this issue and haven’t even heard back from there. They don’t have a customer service phone number listed anywhere on the site. I’d love it to get resolved so I can catch up on the curse of oak island and on alone, but don’t see that happening any time soon. The discovery channel app works great, ID go works great. Just wish the history channel app could work out whatever bugs they have, or even just respond to my message concerning my issues. Again, love the content, just bad follow through with the app itself.

Both this app / lifetime app on Apple TV have a glitch that after an advertisement the playback of the audio and video desynchronizes. Please fix ASAP.

I downloaded this app onto my Apple TV when I started to watch a History Channel original series. Though I was excited to watch this series I became a fan of on History, the headaches began as I started to watch. Frequently, and multiple times per episode, audio will desync from the video. This only way to fix this issue is to back out of the episode and then to restart it, resuming where I left off. What makes it worse, is that the app does not keep track of where you last were watching, constantly hopping between seasons OR episodes within a season. This means having to search around to find the right episode. Worse yet. At times, after the episode is restarted to fix the audio, the video will change it’s ratio to a 4:3 with a large big black box off the right 1/3 part of the screen. To fix that, again, I have to stop the episode again, deal with the issues mentioned in the previous paragraph, and hope and prey to some deity that it will work when I restart it again. Overall, I’m greatly disappointed by an app that has been released by such a large organization like the History Channel. I would come to hope to find something that works a lot better for a channel this large.

Sadly, as much as I want to watch a series that is only on this channel.....I can’t take it anymore with the streaming issues. I don’t mind watching commercials - it’s fair when I’m not paying for the app. HOWEVER-please fix the streaming on the ads. Whenever the ads break in, the streaming stops....and you stare at the first screen of the ad....sometimes after a long pause it starts up again. But then the next ad comes on and it stops again. By the third ad, you may have to close the app. Then when you re-open to start again. Guess what, you have to watch the same ads....or try to. Uhg! It is so frustrating and what might be a few minutes of ads here and there becomes the main time you are spending on the app. And not even watching the ads, just trying to get them to stream so you can watch them and get back to the show. I will try YouTube or wait for this series to make its way onto a decent streaming platform. See ya History channel.....your tech is dark ages and you are history for me.

Good app in general but in a 7 commercial block I saw the same commercial all 7 times. I am actively not going to buy Adidas now because of that. I don’t mind commercials, I know they support the programs, but this kind of thing is annoying and very amateur hour. There is really no excuse for it.

Love the content but this app is almost impossible to use and enjoy. Outside of watching the same ads over and over after each one I am forced to close out as the stream will not play through the ads and into the next segment. I have to relaunch 6 times a show. Why does it not just continue to stream. What ever is going on in the background really makes the viewing enjoyment a horrible experience. In my opinion it’s not usable.

Overall the app is okay and I appreciate the History Chanel making a platform to allow the ability to watch shows online but please dial back the frequent and lengthy commercials. It really takes away from the experience and it becomes a chore to watch. Update, the app frequently freezes in the middle of the many ads. When you restart, guess what, you have to watch the ad again. Also, very disappointed that some of the history channels programs are not on Discovery+ so I’m forced to use this crappie app.

There is an ad that begins with a mom and her two kids in bed, "Tavi" or some pharma brand, that breaks the streaming platform every single time it is served. You should really be monitoring the ads being served better, because the only option is to close the app and use a better streaming platform once that problem ad is served.

I rated a 3 only because they need to fix their ads from freezing or get rid of the ads completely. It is only the medication ads that freeze and sometimes you can’t even get through the ads to finish your show. It is frustrating putting 40 minutes into a show just to not finish it.

Like others have said, way too many commercials. I don’t mind the commercials when I’m actually watching a show, but it shows commercials when you are just trying to find your place. To pick back up on a show you stopped half way through, you might have to watch 24 commercials because every little segment you fast forward through trips a set of 6. They need to base the number of commercials on the actual watch time. You even get commercials sometimes after rewinding?!?!

I get that commercials pay the bills. That being said, there is no reason to advertise for the on demand function while watching an on demand show. Especially if the commercial is for the show you are in the middle of. The amount of commercials is insane for a streaming/ on demand platform.

I really like that the History channel has decided to join the streaming service community. They have a great variety of pretty much all the shows you see on the History channel through a TV service provider. However, i’m a bit disappointed that you have to have a TV Service provider in order to get any access above the very few select episodes they offer for free. I wish they would follow suit to the other streaming services and offer a monthy, tri-monthy, 1/2 year, or a year’s subscription plan at some rate for those that do not have a TV service provider, but would like access to these shows. With the vast array of streaming services becoming more and more available, I believe it is only a matter of time before streaming services completely take over from TV service provider’s. My family is finding that it is much cheaper to pay for the tailored channels and streaming services we like, often at a much cheaper rate than tv service providers. For that reason, we are trying to do away with our own tv service provider. But the fact that History Live requires you to have a Tv service provider does not make that option readily available to those following this path, or simply unable to have tv service. I believe the history channel would be able to profit much more and attract a greater audience if they offered membership rates (monthly, 3-months, 6-months, 1 year) in addition to the free option already available if you have a tv service provider.

I get it it’s a free app but there are way too many commercials and they repeat way too often. There will be the same ad that repeats over the course of an episode 6+ times. Then there’s times where the episode doesn’t load even after closing the app and reloading it. And sometimes the sound and picture doesn’t line up. Love the content on the app which is the only reason I continue to use.

The shows are great, but I’ll never watch the History Channel app again. Not only do I have to sit through at least a dozen ads during the show, 90% of them are the same 3 prescription drug commercials. Over. And. Over. I swear the drug companies pay History to only ever stream their ads in HD or better, because my internet isn’t always the fastest (I’m in the woods) so the show is usually low-res (240-480p). The result is that the whole app freezes because it can’t download the high data rate commercials. App deleted.

But really, I’ve seen the same commercials hundreds of times after binge watching ancient aliens. Bravo for making me HATE this products and all the music on EVERY.SINGLE.ONE. This app needs to make money, I get it! But there are more ads than content. The worst part is: if you are trying to find where you left off, you have to watch all the adds multiple times just to find the right place. You’re literally better off starting from the beginning every time you switch devices.

First off, if the time isn’t perfect on your device, the app will not load. Not too bad, but still annoying. Second, there should not be more than a few ads on a show from 2011, let alone 9! Lastly, repeating ads 3, 4, or even 5 times isn’t going to convince anyone to buy a product or watch a show. It’s just going to annoy people....

This app is awful. I stream a lot and this is the only app that can never make it through an episode without buffering to no end so I have to stop and get back in, then it’s near impossible to get back to the place you were at—so you have to watch a ton of commercials AGAIN to get back to where you were. It will also freeze for no reason and then the same thing again—-commercials until you can get back to where you were. Sometimes it takes 3 or 4 tries to get back in to watch the show, it’s very frustrating and I often just abandon watching whatever I was watching. What’s the point of ‘signing in’ when shows are not saved and the app does not show what I have watched? No, it is not my ISP. This is a very buggy app. Wait until it’s fixed to download. Why don’t you take a hint from other apps that do this quite well—Netflix comes to mind.

Update: I received a response to my previous review and now the app seems to be working. Original review: (1 star) No videos load on apple 4K devices. I have 2 4ks and 2 3ed gen. They play fine on my 3ed gens but no videos load on the 4ks. I’v contacted history channel and after a week of emails back and forth I was told “ at this time we are unable to find a solution and have forwarded this to our engineers.”

The app is good, wish there weren’t so many commercials but it is what it is. I find that a couple of times in an episode that the audio will repeat a segment while the video continues forward. This causes a delay in audio that will not fix itself. I have to back out of the episode and go back in for it to fix itself, only for it to happen again in about 5 minutes. Please fix this

I love all the shows on the history channel but the app has a limited number of those shows. So when you get invested on a season and find out that they don’t have the second half of that season or even the first half of the next season on it’s kind of annoying. And for whatever reason it is extremely difficult to find the shows anywhere else. Seems kind of dumb not providing your own content.

Had many issues with not casting to chromecast, seems like they’ve finally fixed; however when you cast you have to manually select the next episode from the Home Screen each time. When you stop watching and want to play later, the recently watched / start where you left off is always an episode or two behind so useless. Basically wouldn’t use if I could watch the shows elsewhere.

Down loaded the History App to watch the Alone series. I have it cast to the TV via airplay. The shows play, but eventually at one of the numerous commercial breaks it just starts blinking on and off. I can restart the shows and continue from that point for maybe 10 minutes before it hangs up again. Streaming is an awful way to watch TV.

So the commercials are a little annoying but I get it. But my problem is that sometimes it gets stuck in a never ending loop of commercials, sometimes the exact same commercial. Also the commercials freeze the app. Literally have had the same episode freeze on the exact same commercial 5+ times just now. Which is why I’m here writing this review. Killing the app does not fix the problem. It plays a set of commercials and once it’s back to the one it freezes on... BAM. Frozen and won’t load. Fix this app. History channel makes enough money to provide a half descent app. If you can’t I’d rather you not even have the app as an option.

Extremely not useable to watch on your bloody phone or tablet. Keeps wanting a cable tv provider and if you’ve got only an antenna then you’re screwed‼️ I’ve watched so many of these shows before but that’s when we live in town and had a cable service hook-up, but nothing but my phone service out here in the sticks.

I’m a huge fan of history. It captures the imagination and draws you into places and times we could never have envisioned on our own. My absolute favorite show on History Channel is The Curse of Oak Island. I’m so afraid something will happen to stop the search. As Rick has said, I believe that the island holds secrets as important as the famed treasure. Like Gary, I believe that it’s just right there, a step away. I will miss Dave Blankenship. He always has a way of getting a smile. Every member of the team is equally important to the whole. Tonight I watch the latest episode on my iPad because my TiVo didn’t record. Yes, I said a few cuss words like Dave, but I am thrilled that there is a way for me to capture that episode without waiting for a rerun. I know the commercials are annoying, but at least I can watch my best show. I’ve had a bit of an issue with commercials that freeze up, not sure why, but after 3-4 minutes I rebooted. I’m thankful for the way History is presented and honored. And I realize while watching Oak Island that I am watching new history unfold. If Rick and Marty and the guys need it, I’d be happy to send a few dollars just for the thrill of the hunt. When I was in high school in the 1970’s I worked in the school library a lot. I was able to rescue all of the old Reader’s Digests that were about to be discarded. I took my hoard home and began going through the old issues. I have read the original article about Oak Island in the January 1965 issue. I remember wishing they let girls look for treasure. This is why I have the app. I have been fascinated by Oak Island for years. I’m not fond of the commercials though. They freeze up, take time away from the information being given on Oak Island. The commercials are repetitious and boring. If I could breeze through them I would. I really tried to watch some of the off shoots of Oak Island, but couldn’t because I didn’t have pass codes, or the episode was locked. That was a little disappointing.

App requires me to select my tv provider each time and website won’t play another show at all. The app also rarely plays two vids in a row without an error code, even on an iPhone 12. Sent a requests weeks ago and nothing. Their web person should be fired. I have over a dozen tv/movie apps that all work perfectly. Hire someone competent and you won’t have this problem

I had to sit through 12 on one “break” because your app froze. YouTube has you watch 2 ads for 5 seconds and then the show comes back. Is your business doing so poorly that we need to endure this pain? I think I am going to stop watching your shows.

Give us a break! More show, less commercials. It would also be nice to see more historical period pieces like Vikings, as there are many of us who love love love ancient history. Not a big fan of the re-enactment shows though. The History app is great, but there is a lot of black screen and once again, those horrid commercials! When something is first run on TV, advertisers are getting their commercials on at that time. Why do we have to endure the same thing online? I downloaded this app onto my Apple TV when I started to watch a History Channel original series. Though I was excited to watch this series I became a fan of on History, the headaches began as I started to watch. Frequently, and multiple times per episode, audio will desync from the video. This only way to fix this issue is to back out of the episode and then to restart it, resuming where I left off. What makes it worse, is that the app does not keep track of where you last were watching, constantly hopping between seasons OR episodes within a season. This means having to search around to find the right episode. Worse yet. At times, after the episode is restarted to fix the audio, the video will change it’s ratio to a 4:3 with a large big black box off the right 1/3 part of the screen. To fix that, again, I have to stop the episode again, deal with the issues mentioned in the previous paragraph, and hope and prey to some deity that it will work when I restart it again. Overall, I’m greatly disappointed by an app that has been released by such a large organization like the History Channel. I would come to hope to find something that works a lot better for a channel this large.

I have the app on my Apple TV to watch History Channel shows. The app will freeze and you will have to either back out of the program and try to start it again or sometimes you won’t get the chance to try that because the app will close itself completely. There are a lot of commercials, they offer ‘interactive’ commercials where you only watch a single commercial but you have to interact with it to close it. Problem is that after interacting with the commercial it will still show you more commercials anyway. All that is nothing compared to the audio constantly coming out of sync with the video. The audio will glitch and jump backward 15-20 seconds, but the video keeps going. The only way to fix it is to back out of the program and go back in. It will happen over and over again in a single episode. Sometimes every 3-5 minutes. I like the content on the app. But they need to fix the bugs.

I can only say that when we studied things like the “Roaring 20’s,The Depression,The Boston Tea Party,The Roman Empire, right on back to when the Dinosaurs roamed the Earth” and we as children could not escape from the exciting things we were being taught, only a lot of the ways we were taught was matter of factly very boring. I really liked it when there was a film, even fact filled documentaries were great. As valuable as a books knowledge can be, they’ll never be as interesting as someone else doing the reading and telling about it. Ever since I can remember and before is how far back my true desire to be next to GOD goes. Now with that being said, Please History Channel Accept My Full Hearted Thankfulness!!!! You Make History Fun!! I Sincerely hope that you continue to be a large part of the knowledge that we seek the most. Knowledge of Ourselves!!!!

This review is for the tvOS app. No complaints about the shows on History Channel. In the tvOS app they look and sound fine. But the UX in the app is rough and riddled with bugs. 1. Constantly repeats the same show segments after an ad. I suspect this is triggered by the ad insertion system as it only seems to happen after fast forwarding through a show segment (which typically triggers a commercial). This happens a LOT! 2. So many commercials. It is almost unbearable to see the same commercial this many times. Forcing viewers to sit through the same commercial 15 times during an episode is bad business. Binge watching? I hope you’re ok watching a commercial a hundred times or more. 3. Mediocre navigating. I have to work harder than I’d expect to find what I want to watch in this app. 4. I have to log in / activate every other time I launch the tvOS app. Super annoying and time consuming. Multiple AppleTV’s have the same issue. 5. TvOS app doesn’t always remember what episodes I’ve watched so I’m constantly guessing which episode was last viewed. Add to this the issues above with fast forwarding and I’ve spent longer trying to get to the last 5 minutes of an episode than the length of the episode itself. I’m still using the app to binge some of my favorite shows but the bugs and UX issues make it a lot more difficult than it should be.

Capturing history and preserving it for the next generations is what it is all about. If only I had such a TV series like this when I was a young boy I believe I would be standing next to Rick and Marty. My admiration of such conviction is what drives my anticipation for the next episode. I wish our younger generation would have an educational system which would instill such a drive and determination. This series is a credit to the success of the History channel. Trying to solve mysteries and uncovering artifacts is what dreams are all about. Without dreams and aspirations man does not move forward. Keep the struggle for mankind moving forward through the Oak Island and other Templar related series. Keep the legends and intrigue burning dreams into our minds. I am looking forward to winning the sweepstakes!

Wishing I could see this without paying because my income is to low for such things. Have no cable at all. The antenna doesn’t get you hardly anything at all. What you do get is just terrible. Can’t believe they would dumb us down this way or at all. We are being influenced by what we see n hear and if you can’t or won’t see n hear you won’t learn anything at all. Our world is based on knowledge and learning for process. How are we to better ourselves without the proper information. Love this channel and miss it dearly. Just found this app and I’m watching what there is free. Thank you for that much. It’s nice and wish it were free for all of it. Commercials are to much to long. Please be considerate about this.

Where do I begin? This is the first app I have ever given less than 5 stars. The History App has it all: the good, the bad, and the ugly. The good part is that I can watch the shows I love anytime I want anywhere I want. The bad news is that sometimes the app is glitchy and I have to restart my Apple TV to get it to work properly. The ugliest piece of the puzzle is the exhausting amount of ads as of late. I was completely OK with 3 (often repetitious) ads during each break, but now it has doubled to 6 (often repetitious) ads during the 5 breaks on a 40 min show. After reading recent reviews, I find most customers are feeling the same way I do. However, I do not believe History knows or cares what the viewers want. If the app continues down this path, then I fear that soon it will finally live up to its name and become HISTORY!

Apparently I’m suppose to create a review of this app or channel or Shows. It must be extremely difficult to fill a 24/7 channel with shows with an unknown projected budget from Advertising and Payed cable .From that aspect you have to deploy a budget sparingly and support certain project and kill them off if ratings come back unfulfilling .But how long to give each project a chance would be by each shows Budget . If they can not self sustain themselves by ratings and budget you would have to terminate the program. From this aspect I find your channel to be going work . I only enjoy one or two of your shows. project blue book being one of them. Thank you for the entertainment.

This app is awful. I stream a lot and this is the only app that can never make it through an episode without buffering to no end so I have to stop and get back in, then it’s near impossible to get back to the place you were at—so you have to watch a ton of commercials AGAIN to get back to where you were. It will also freeze for no reason and then the same thing again—-commercials until you can get back to where you were. Sometimes it takes 3 or 4 tries to get back in to watch the show, it’s very frustrating and I often just abandon watching whatever I was watching. What’s the point of ‘signing in’ when shows are not saved and the app does not show what I have watched? No, it is not my ISP. This is a very buggy app. Wait until it’s fixed to download. Why don’t you take a hint from other apps that do this quite well—Netflix comes to mind.

This show is watch by country boys and hunters , out door people. I think you need to make sure the contestants have the skills that allows us to learn from . The woman that left because of the hook in her had was a shame all county boys have took a hook out of their hand it’s a simple thing to do . When she lashed the knife to her arm let us know she’s miles behind the average country boy in skills . I won’t to see people that don’t just survive but thrive in the woods . They still lack the knowledge to use the fish to kill a bear . To hunt at night when the animals are walking threw their camp . I love the show it’s great Just my adopt make it better . I love History and also love this app, but felt like it too much commercial on the 1 episode. pop up every break time for 3-4 commercials in one break. it made me feel got interrupted more than enjoying. I don’t really mind much for having commercials during the show(maybe 1 break for 1 commercial), but this way is too much to take it. Worse case is sometime, I want to stop and end up with the show. that’s sad because I’m never get bored or want to give up for studying about History, but this app can make me feel on that way. Anyway, thank you for the good stories that you’re sharing.
Great look into past and present

Was recently on vacation in up state California and was seeing many logging trucks and lumber mills. My grand father was a lumberjack and ran a small saw mill in the 30’s and 40’s. As a kid I remember seeing some of his old hand saws and chain saws in the old barn. Watching the Ax Men series has enlightened me as to how hard and dangerous lumbering was and is. My hat goes off to people that have done and are still doing that difficult job. Many thanks to the History Channel for all the great programs they show. As for the concerns some people have about commercials, I believe it’s a small inconvenience for what we are getting in high quality entertainment.

I just finished watching Washington, on my 10 inch iPad, while on vacation. It was fantastic. It is such a pleasure to be able to relax in the comfort of your bedroom, and watch such a moving story, in beautiful HD. It was like reading a good book, in bed, at the end of a busy day. I had tears in my eyes by the end. The acting was excellent, as well as the whole movie production. I particularly liked everyone of the historians, they added such realism to the scenes. And not having an overwhelming amount of commercials was really appreciated. I will spread the word about this show. Every American needs to see this, and get a refresher course on how this country got started. Thank you.

The app and idea behind it is not bad. I like that I can easily catch up on shows that I haven’t seen. That being said it could be better. I use streaming services to avoid commercials. When using the app it has quite a few commercials in one block and it doesn’t have much variety. With a 45 minute show, I see the same series of commercials about 5 times. I understand that the app is free and that for some shows you don’t have to pay to be able to watch them, but the amount of commercials is slightly excessive. I also experience problems with the videos playing on my iPhone 6. Overall I am very happy with this app as I enjoy a fair amount of history channel shows.

I just finished watching/listening “The Food That Built America” via my Fios account, and I loved it. I’m working a long hours so I don’t mind the commercials because I wasn’t actually watching but more of listening. However, I do notice that the streaming process was great as there wasn’t any interruption at all. The reason I’m saying this because if I was watching my shows on my phone via fios top box while I’m home my shows get interrupted every 20-30 minute and it’s just spinning forever. I have to log back in again over and over. But watching History Channel today was no issues at all. I’m happy!

I love the history channel and the content they provide, American Pickers is probably my favorite show. But at least 5-10 times an episode of whichever show I’m watching the audio goes out of sync with the picture. I have to menu click out of the episode, then resume the same episode and it seems to work for a couple minutes then goes out of sync again. This is on tvOS, I don’t encounter this problem on iPadOS. I’m at a point of not using the Apple TV app anymore because of this. Also, holly smokes are there a lot of commercials! And they repeat over and over, if you’re bing watching get ready to see the same 5-10 commercials 50 plus times. Sometimes they will play the same one 4-5 times in a row!

Way, way, way too many commercials. And they are way too long, and you play the same one two, sometimes 3 times in a row. I already pay for the provider. Collect money from them and make your commercials much shorter. And don’t play the same one, over and over again. I got the message the first time. Just annoying and unnecessary. Please fix this ASAP! I love the shows on here, but the commercials, come on! I’m able to fast forward through them on my cable box. I’d like that Same option when watching on my phone through this app. Other than that, Great shows, keep up the good work. Please do something about all these long overly played commercials. Thanks

In theory, this app is simple, watch History Channel content on Apple TV. In practice it borders on unusable. Video streams repeatedly glitch out and repeat the last few seconds, after which the audio completely loses sync. To fix it you need to stop the stream, exit the app, go back to the stream, exit the stream to the episode menu and then restart the stream. I’m exhausted just typing all that. Now imagine having to do that it every. few. minutes. If that were not bad enough, once the video starts you call look forward to 8 or 9 ads in a row, you guessed it — every. few. minutes. Often it’s the same ad, 9 times in a row. If the goal is to make me hate a product and the History Channel brand, then mission accomplished. Recently they added a NEW ad feature. Now they completely pause the program to ask me if I want an “interactive ad” instead of the 9 usual ads. If I say yes another ad runs, then makes me hit play again. After which I still see, you guessed it, ANOTHER ad. So to recap, now I have to constantly use the remote just to get through an endless stream of ads in the hopes of catching a couple minutes of a show here and there. It’s ridiculous and unwatchable.
Apple TV app audio doesn’t match video/captions

I can’t speak for the iPhone or iPad apps, but the Apple TV app leaves a lot to desire. Every few minutes of watching The Curse of Oak Island the audio repeats itself and lags behind the video and captioning. In order to fix it, you have to exit the video and start playing again until the same thing happens again moments later. Another frustration is if you choose to watch an interactive ad vs multiple regular ads , the screen doesn’t return to full size and plays the show on about 2/3s of the screen-also only fixable by exiting and replaying the episode. This is especially disappointing since this is a service I pay for. I would love a seamless watching experience please. I don’t think that’s too much to ask.

I completely agree with some of the other reviews that I have read here regarding the commercials! I absolutely love the HISTORY app and all the wonderful shows that they provide but the commercials are ridiculous! I can understand throwing one or two in there throughout the show but the amount of commercials is too much! We are viewing online not on live television where the advertisers have already promoted. So that is my one suggestion for making the app better! Thank you for all of your wonderful programming with shows like Alone, Mountain Men, Vikings, The UnXplained and many more!!

I like several of the shows on the history channel and this is a way to catch up on those i have missed. But the number and repetition of the commercials has driven me off of this app. I too have experienced the black screen malady but i had to delete the app and reload it to regain control of the app. I thought seriously about deleting the app altogether but haven't done so yet. However, i have not used the app since that time principally because of the number and repetition of the commercials. I was no even able to fast forward through the commercials nor even be able to see just how much time they ran. Sorry! If i need the memory this will be the first app to go. How are they going to get their commercials seen if the viewers do not use the app?

Liked the app at first. I could catch up on the shows I didn't have time to watch at original air. Tried watching an episode tonight and I got through about 7 min with only a few commercials. Then it happened, 12 commercials back to back. And they were all car dealers or wealth management people who were nowhere near my local area. I exited out of the app and closed it. Only to return to the same nonsense when I reopened it. I let it run to see just how many ads it would try to force me to view. But after 15 more, I shut it down and deleted the app. I realize you guys are selling advertising and the shows are only there to get people to see the ads, but how greedy do you have to be to run so many ads compared to such little content?

Aside from the 14 billion ads I have to watch in one episode of a show, the app itself is ok. Nothing special. Does anyone want to hear more about the ads? C’mon, I figured watching ads is what everyone wants to do. By the way this app works, I would swear the purpose was to watch ads. Developers- if you’re sick of reading about ads, imagine how your customers feel after paying for access. This review is supposed to be about the app, but it’s little more than ads. I’m just reviewing things as I see them. This sort of approach to content is exactly why people are cutting the cord. Don’t think you are immune.

I really like the show Alone. Unfortunately most of the seasons are only on the History App. The app has a TON of commercials throughout each episode. If you ever get off the app halfway through an episode often it’ll forget where you were. That means you have to scrub through and guess where you left off. And guess what, if you scrub through one of the designed commercial breaks looking for where you last were, BAM another commercial. Sometimes you can opt for the 30 second “interactive” commercial. I can get over the annoying Trump ads, but often the interactive part isn’t working and you can’t move forward to your show, even after restarting the app. Definitely the worst streaming app I’ve ever used.

I downloaded the app and tried watching a show to catch up on it however I was only able to get through half the episode. The episodes are interrupted by commercials every five minutes. At one point I there were five commercials back to back and then the screen went black without the episode resuming. I then had to close down the app and reopen it to watch my show. The video resumed without issues, unfortunately it was the commercials that started playing again and not the episode. The same thing repeated itself, several commercials and then a black screen! I repeated the process twice more with the same results and then gave up. There's no point creating an app like this if these are the results! Don't waist your time downloading it!

I really love the shows the History Channel produces. Being able to watch them on my phone is just too cool. Even includes a few commercials but far fewer then when watching tv but what I don’t like is the limiting of how many episodes I can watch without including my tv service provider. Why? If I have the app why can’t I watch the programs I want to watch? Either make people pay for the app or let them watch the shows. Keep Up the great programming though...I love Vikings and now Knightfall but just watched Ancient Impossible. I will be looking for that on the tv as I really like it.

I’ve always loved History Channel. I’m a huge fan of “The Curse of Oak Island” and I think the new show will be fascinating! What a turn of tide to be searching the oceans archeologically and proving so much of our past. I do have a complaint, however. You know I pay a lot to have tier two so I can see all the history channels. Then your app came out. Love it!! But now you have the Vault and the new Ancient History Channel and I can’t watch either even though I’m tier two. If I pay for this outside my cable bill, will I get all of them?

Seems to be okay as an iPhone app, you can pick up where you left off on episodes but I primarily only use it as an app on my tv and it’s not great for that. Even being logged in to your profile, it won’t save the shows you’ve been watching so you have to search for them each time. Sound often cuts off during the ads which, who cares, but will carry over as no sound when the show comes back. Will not auto play the next episode. Freezes and then says connection error. You back out and press play again and it’s fine. Very annoying app and yes, it plays the same ads over and over and over.

Well, to start off with I’m a history nerd. I have been since I was a kid (60 now!). So I’ve always been an avid viewer of this channel. For me, it just doesn’t get any better. Their coverage of different eras in world history keeps it fresh. And, they’re not afraid to take on difficult topics sometimes. I respect that in a media company. I may not always agree with their view or final conclusions, but I wouldn’t expect to 100% of the time. But for viewing interesting shows about the history of our country and world, you can’t get any better.

i assume this app was made right alongside with the lifetime app and am not surprised with the glitching. it does the same stuff the lifetime app does. never saves to the right place when i stop watching an episode, constantly buffers, has an excessive amount of adds (that would be bearable if everything else wasn’t so upsetting), will glitch and it skips to the end of the episode (when i never watched it in the first place), and skips to random parts of an episode. it just kept skipping to the end of an episode that i haven’t watched yet! it would automatically skip to the end when it’s done loading. it does this when i watch it on my phone and even more with chrome cast. just disappointing
App and Website are not running properly

I just downloaded the app in anticipation of the premier of Project Blue Book. I made a profile and got the free 3 credits. But I decided to try and then gain access to full library by selecting my TV provider. When I selected the button for the list of tv providers, the app just loads indefinitely. When I try to sign out of my account, the app loads indefinitely. I tried to go through the website and when I opted to sign in with a TV provider, the website just loaded the homepage again. Not great service for customers if it’s virtually impossible and doesn’t cooperate. I don’t even want to try and use the free 3 credits, not confident those will work either. I will be deleting the app and I guess I’ll have to find another way to catch episodes.

I get that they make money on advertising, but really!? Are so many commercials needed. I watch more commercials than shows. The ads are in Spanish half of the time and I can’t even understand them. How am I supposed to even be interested in the ads you are cramming down my throat if I don’t even understand what is going on in the ad? Tell marketing to get their stuff together. The other issues I have are with the tech department: When switching from show to commercial, the volume gets unbelievably loud and physically hurts my ears. The transition back to the show does not go smoothly and usually ends with me having to close and restart the app because there is no audio after a commercial break. Please get it together.

Just watched “Project Blue Book” thanks, I grew up during those times an believe me when I say “ GREAT JOB” I have been watching History for as long as it has been an app an Chanel my favorite 5 star is Ancient Aliens Series I cant get enough, SO HAPPY when it finally was entered in the app! Great hunting education

We have been able to re-learn old hunting methods of our childhood and share with our grandsons and great grandsons. History puts these stories together in such detail that it brings the details of our teenage years clearly to our mind. We have studied hard the blacksmith programs from History as we have trained and turned over our blacksmith shop to our grandchildren and now are doing the same thing with our trapping and hunting equipment. Thank you History for such excellent, authentic, programming!!
Some great shows but viewer needs TONs of work

It’s great to be able to watch Vikings to catch up but with so many commercials, and the app/video playback crashing randomly (so you have to watch repeated commercials) it can take 75 plus minutes to get through an episode. It starts to make it frustrating to watch the show and not worth the effort. The playback viewer needs a lot of work including compatibility with Apple TV and continuous playback while the phone is locked besides the crashing/ failing issues. All in all just over a score of don’t even bother. If it’s your only way to watch the new season, have your stress ball at the ready.
App freezes A LOT

So the commercials are a little annoying but I get it. But my problem is that sometimes it gets stuck in a never ending loop of commercials, sometimes the exact same commercial. Also the commercials freeze the app. Literally have had the same episode freeze on the exact same commercial 5+ times just now. Which is why I’m here writing this review. Killing the app does not fix the problem. It plays a set of commercials and once it’s back to the one it freezes on... BAM. Frozen and won’t load. Fix this app. History channel makes enough money to provide a half descent app. If you can’t I’d rather you not even have the app as an option.

First I’ll say that I don’t dislike the shows that are available, I actually like them a lot (Only reason this doesn’t get a 1 star). That isn’t the issue here though. The amount of ads that play during a show are ridiculous though. I’ll go over just a single episode of something I watched recently. At the 11 minute mark I got my first ad break with 1 minute of ads. No problem there At the 24:30 minute mark I got another ad break, with 2:30 worth of ads. That was a quick jump. At the 28:10 minute mark I got the third ad break with 2:55 worth of ads. That’s almost as much as the 3:30 of show I watched since the last break. Then I got an ad break at the 34:30 minute mark with 3:05 worth of ads. Finally at the 38:10 mark I got another 3:05 worth of ads. It’s honestly crazy how many ads I got, and how frequently. If your ads add up to over 25% watch time of an episode, it’s a huge problem. It will never be fixed probably, but that’s fine since I won’t be using this service anymore.
Having technical issues with this app again

After watching the multiple shows about the Templars I recalled another History channel show about Templars and a pirate connection. I used the app to locate the show and I am now experiencing technical issues. The app worked well up to the second set of commercials in the first episode. Then the app crashed and ended in a loop of showing me two commercials then crashing. I decided to login with my TV provider in an attempt to resolve. It is still stuck in the same commercial loop then crashes. I deleted the app and down loaded it again. I started watching the same episode from the start again and this time it entered the same commercial loop at the first commercial break.

I was watching project blue book. After signing in with my provider. I watch about half of them. Then all of a sudden it will not load any episodes. The loading sign just sits on the screen forever. It loaded before. But now it is just does not work. Other shows will load. Just not project blue book. Also the commercials are ridiculous. Too many and literally the same horrible bud light commercial over and over 5 times in a row. Then the next block of commercials is the same bud light commercials again and again and again and again and again.... and then again and again and again and again and again.
No cross platform sync, too many commercials,  tv app is worse.

The app on iPhone doesn’t sync with the Apple TV app so when you start a video, you have to wait through at least 5 commercials before you can get to the spot where you left off at? That’s if the screen doesn’t go black and you need to restart, then more commercials. The Apple TV app is even worse, they updated it and it no longer shows new episodes available. I have to scroll down to each show to see if a new episode is available now for each and every show. The app also logs out of my dish subscription and I constantly go days before it will let me log in again.

I was hoping to continue watching “The Curse of Oak Island” after my satellite carrier dropped all the earlier seasons on demand. I just found this show on Directv today with over 40 Episodes on demand. I watched the first 3 Episodes of season one and really enjoyed the series then I took a break to fix dinner. When I came back to my tv to continue watching, there were no episodes on demand any longer. I am aware that season 5 started tonight but I will not watch season 5 until I can watch the previous seasons and since only the first 3 Episodes of season 1 are available on the History Channel, I will not be watching the rest of them. Therefore, I will not be starting any more series on the History Channel.

I have learned so much from each person in the show. It is so interesting and never boring. Learning how are ancestors made things and lived it makes u realize they were tough and they had to have skills because a store wasn’t around the corner. I like u show the good and the bad just like in real life. Thanks to all for a great show I hope keeps going. I miss Marty and his trapping but I respect that he wants time with his family and he did what he thought was right for his family. Good for them.

I love the history channel programming, but I absolutely hate this app. I’ve seen better designed apps by kids. It’s not user friendly, it doesn’t keep track of the shows you have watched or your progress of what you are watching if you have to pause and step away. It plays more commercials than if you were watching live and tends to play the same commercial several times over and over again. I saw the same Buick commercial 6 times in the same commercial break, literally 6 times over and over again. If you enjoy watching more commercials than programming then this is the app for you!

I would start watching another one of your series, but with this experience, no way. 72 commercials for a 44 minute show is ridiculous!! With the app on my iPad, I stream to my AppleTV, because the app says it is "Apple TV compatible." However, the "Interactive ad" feature is not available through AppleTV. So instead, I have to watch 6 commercials (many repeating) then get a black screen. Seems like it s waiting for a response but there is no interacting w AppleTV... just an error message. Try to find a work around and adjust where I was in the show, and I have to watch the 6 commercials again and there's 5 commercial breaks... 72 commercials for a 44 minute show is ridiculous!!

I love the History Channel App! All of my favorite shows are available, many all the way back to season one through current season. I HATE THE VOLUME SPIKES WITH EVERY COMMERCIAL! I can’t get it turned down quickly enough to keep from blowing my ear drums if I am wearing my ear phones, or awakening the entire household if it is playing through speakers. SHAME ON YOU! Surely you have the wherewithal to prevent this, so I can only assume it is intentional. It is disrespectful of the viewers to have the sound blast without warning. If you had a visitor over to your home, and out of the blue she started yelling as loud as she could.... then returns to a quiet conversational voice until the desire hit her, and she started yelling again, you would be shocked at her rude behavior! And when you realized she was trying to get you to buy a vacuum she was selling at her garage sale, you would probably throw her out of your home on her ear. Well this app is just as rude. And that’s exactly what I’m going to do: throw it out.
No Watchlist/Recents/Favorites?!?

I downloaded the app to binge Ancient Aliens which has 15+ seasons and 170+ episodes. For the life of me, I can’t figure out how to add your favorites to a watch list . And why isn’t the show in recently viewed /searched? Also if I pause a show halfway thru and come back to it later, it won’t resume where left off!! So I have to open app, sometimes log back in even within a 24 hr time frame, search for the show, the. Scroll thru every season and episode to get to what I was JUST watching yesterday. Not worth it to deal with all the commercials and frequent buffering issues!! ! Please fix these issues !! Many people have complained it seems it’s time to meet the demand of your customers! Thanks
Unwatchable More Commercials than Shows

Terrible. Don’t waste your time. Literally unwatchable. Shows are cut into short, 2-3 minute pieces and you must watch commercials before EACH segment that are almost as long as the video. HOW can they get away with jamming commercials down our throats after we authenticate (sign in with the credentials of) the provider we PAY for? We all need to let our providers know this is not acceptable and has gotten out of hand. I am a long time subscriber who loved the history channel since it started. No more. so many ads and interactive ads, the shows are literally unwatchable. Far more ads than when watching with DIRECTV. Why? I understand how ads work. We put up with them most of the time but The history channel has gone far beyond anything reasonable not to mention the obnoxious interactive ads which make no sense. I don’t know anybody who responds correctly so. Any advertisers using the results as market research are getting skewed results. The whole history channel experience has been, ruined. - SHK
