No Longer a Credible Travel Broker IMO

I booked a car rental and was tricked. But TECHNICALLY it was my fault and Hotwire texting representative Janeth let me know. Hotwire puts policy over people. I booked the car rental to drive from SLC to Las Vagas. The booking screen said “unlimited miles for non-local renters” (after going back a reviewing). I understood it that I would have unlimited miles like every other auto rental I’ve ever had provides. The fine print states: “Some local rentals do not offer unlimited mileage.” Well, you don’t know which rental agency it is until after the purchase on a Hotwire “hot buy.” I got to the auto rental place. They wanted to charge me an additional $20 per day for unlimited mileage. I drove my own car out of principle. The Hotwire representative was completely and totally unhelpful. She just quoted their policy and basically told me to take a hike. They wouldn’t allow a credit to be applied to a different auto rental company. Just you’re out of luck. I don’t believe hotwire should do business with auto rental companies that don’t offer unlimited mileage without providing a bold disclaimer upfront that tells the purchaser to beware. Especially when there are other reputable auto rental companies that are offering unlimited mileage for similar prices in Hotwire listings. The buyer needs to understand what they are and are not getting because the bad auto rental companies are being associated with the good ones. The customer is the one that suffers. My money was not refunded and I did not take the rental car — drove my own. I am deleting my Hotwire profile and will never book the through Hotwire again.

I’ve been booking with hot wire for many many years trips to Puerto Rico, Honduras, Mexico and trips all over the United States rental cars hotels I mean I’ve done it all with Hotwire they always have the best prices and several times that I’ve had to contact Customer Service it’s always been pleasant and I’ve never ever had an issue with hotwire.

I’ve used Hotwire for decades and have never been disappointed. Value based app! I use mostly for hotels but have booked several autos as well. I travel a lot mostly for pleasure but have used for business several times as well. I plan to continue using!

Worse app ever I booked in June the hotel wouldn’t let me check in for that day so I left and never got a refund fpr the inconvenience I booked again November the hotel was a disgrace mice in lobby I had the baby so I didn’t want to check in now I’m fighting fpr a refund because they don’t wanna give me back my money

I had a 4 day trip in California with my partner and chose this place to be our designated hotel given its cheap pricing and "FREE BREAKFAST" included. As soon as we arrive to check in I asked the front desk person if she could provide information about breakfast (hours, where, etc.) and was told that there is no breakfast. I then showed her my reservation, which specifically stated that breakfast was included, and she said that they don't provide any breakfast but instead provide guests with a $10 voucher per room to eat at a cafe next door. Well, the cafe next door is fairly expensive and it would cost us close to 180 extra to pay for breakfast for 2 people every one of the next 4 mornings. The $10 voucher per room would be able to pay for one cappuccino and that's it. Literally. Anyway, I then asked if there was something Hotwire.com could do about and if the hotel could do something about it. Maybe give us some money back? Maybe give us a few additional vouchers? SOMETHING? Both Hotwire.com and the hotel did absolutely nothing to address the situation. I ended up paying almost $200 for breakfast for 2 for 4 days that I did not anticipate. All I got from the hotel was "that's weird. Not sure why your reservation said that it included breakfast. It shouldn't say that". All I got from Hotwire.com was "there's nothing we can do besides offering you a 25% coupon for your next booking with us. Aside from all of this stress that was super sketchy, unethical, shady, irresponsible, an unprofessional, the hotel is mediocre.

You really need to read the fine printing, tons of bad loop holes with fake promises:: it’s a hit and miss, it really can come in handy and SAVE you TIME & MONEY but you need to be adventurous and NOT a PICKY PERSON to enjoy HotWire or it’s App. Good Luck MY PEEPS!

Paid 110$ for a hotel that wouldn’t allow me to even check in, I tried explaining the situation and stressed the fact THEY WOULDNT LET ME CHECK IN. Asked for a refund and they told me no. Even though I’ve spent HUNDREDS threw this app. Very very disappointed and I’m deleting this app. Rather use one that actually cares about their customers.

I booked a hotel in Houston from Hotwire App like I always do before a trip. It said “SOLD OUT” so I rebooked a second hotel. This time it sent me an email with a confirmation number. When I almost arrived to Houston, I checked my phone and realized they charged me for the sold out hotel. I immediately called Hotwire to inform them the issue. The agent told me to not worries, he only see the second booking on his end. I said “okay” because it was only pending. Today I checked my bank and saw 2 booking have been posted. I called and hold for over 1 hour, and they said they can’t give me a refund. The first booking confirmation already sent to my “secondary private email” which I don’t even know or own it. I have a worst experience with Hotwire after years of using it.

I can’t tell you how many times plans have quickly changed when I’m at the airport or in a different city or need to head somewhere really quick, and I log onto Hotwire app and my problem solved in less than five minutes. This thing really is amazing, and it’s way cheaper than booking directly through the hotel . I’ve also had to cancel my reservations several times before, and hotwire was gracious enough to call the hotels and get the reservation canceled even though their policy says otherwise. I can’t tell you how happy I am for this given our plans change last minute so frequently, especially given Covid. I love hotwire.

I definitely do not recommend this app. I booked a hotel in Springfield for $236.41 and when I went to the hotel I found out that all the rooms were occupied. I asked the hotel and HOTWIRE to be refunded my money, but no one even replied. Never use this scam app...

Call the hotels directly. The rates are better, and you’ll have a better experience when something goes wrong. Hotwire support can’t do anything. They are there to make people think there are options, but in reality they are there to stonewall and wear people down. Hotwire is owned by Expedia, by the way, so don’t use Expedia either.

The app shows old rates. Wastes your time entering info in just to say sorry, we cannot process the transaction. Your card hasn’t been charged. I wasted a whole night doing this and finally called just for them to say all the deals I tried to book are no longer available but when I get back on the app all deals are still advertised. I’ve never had a problem with Hotwire before this, huge headache.

I booked a hotel through the app to take advantage of their latest promo. Before I checked out, I applied the promo, and it showed the discount with the final amount that will be charged to my card. After I pressed pay now, the total changed and the discount was no where to be found. What?? I messaged customer service, and they were not able to help. All they could offer is credit to my Hotwire account, not back to my credit card. This made me want to cancel my entire booking, but they have a no refund policy. That is not right to change the final amount that you are paying. Now I will have to contact my credit card company to dispute the charges. What a hassle! I’m never booking though them again.

Hotwire sometimes has a good deal, but I wonder if saving $15 now and then is really worth dealing with their unpleasant customer service. They booked me into a hotel that ended up being full, and was talked by their customer service into accepting the refund with Hot Dollars when they told me I would not get my refund for 9 days otherwise. They did not bother to tell me that you can only use Hot Dollars on their website where the prices are like $4 more so I had to call them back to figure out to login on their website. They did absolutely nothing beyond wasting my time putting me on hold to confirm over the phone with my original hotel that they overbooked, reading me terms and conditions for another 10 minutes and making me pay $4 extra on a different hotel to make me happier after they made my evening such a hassle. My recommendation is to avoid their crummy Hot Dollars for refunds. Live and learn.

I haven’t had the trouble all the other bozos have had. As long as you have reasonable expectations, you will enjoy this app. There are savings to be had, if you are willing to book a hotel site unseen. I’ve been doing it for years, and have rarely been disappointed. I think the ones complaining aren’t playing the game right.

I booked a car rental through the app. Before booking I read the terms and conditions and it said all rentals except “Hot Rates” can be cancelled or changed at anytime. When I called to get a lower advertised rate they said my booking was “non refundable”. I have screen shots of everything and even talked to a supervisor and their only excuse was that my itinerary that was emailed AFTER the booking said the rate was non refundable...and actually ended the call and could not show me where in the booking process it showed it was non-refundable! They are such liars and I’ve lost all respect for them. At least my bank will believe me and refund my reservation!

DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME - I have spent over an hour on this. I find a reasonable deal on a hotel, book it with a credit card that I use all the time, that’s perfectly fine, and it gives me a vague error saying that it doesn’t work and my card has NOT been charged. However, the card HAS been charged, because I get text messages when my card is charged. I called the company, and there is nothing they can do about it, because the website is like a separate company and get separate deals (and customer service at the phone number can’t get the same prices as the website).

This app will always send you to Dollar or Thrifty, which are the worst rental companies in the US. You’d be stuck behind a line of 50 people while Alamo, Avis, Herz will be empty. And then there’s “the service”. Save yourself headache and time and just book through Expedia or Kayak and know what you’re getting. You also get no option to cancel with Hotwire. Horrible

When I saw a 2.5 stars hotel, they will tell you you might get a Holiday Inn. And I want something better so I choose to bid 3 stars hotel, and they have me a 2 stars motel! The motel is bad, no breakfast, no amenities, nothing! Just hot coffee at front desk!!! The fraud app didn’t give any refund, and just want to give me “HOT Dollar” for future use. I will never use this fraud app and I will call my lawyer for settlement!!! Don’t use it!

If you book with Hotwire be sure to keep your fingers crossed that you don’t have the displeasure of having to deal with their customer service team. This has been an awful experience, I will never book with Hotwire again. I heavily recommend that you don’t either. Go with Any other option. After the additional 25% you pay in hidden fees, you barely save any money anyway.

Worst experience I’ve ever had and they do not work with you at all! You spend two hours going in circles all because you want at least a credit for canceling. I am sick and they asked for a doctors note from a physician! I feel like I had to share too much personal info to cancel. I will never use them again.

I booked a room thinking it was a great deal. Then I looked closer at the charges and realized the TAXES AND FEES WERE MORE THAN DOUBLE what they would have been without the hot rate. When I ask for an explanation and a breakdown of the increased taxes and fees I was told they could not give me that information. In the end I would have paid less without the hot rate. I really don’t appreciate this kind of dishonest business model and will not be using Hotwire in the future.

Twice. Over a 2 day period while visiting hotels in Idaho traveling around National Parks I booked through Hotwire. When I arrived at the hotels the staff double charged me (I thought they took my card for incidentals) since the card they had from Hotwire didn’t work. Luckily I check my card statement and saw what was happening. I’m glad though, because come to find out BOTH hotels charged me significantly less (10%+ savings) than the charges from Hotwire. And when I questioned Hotwire about it they said “it’s because of the taxes and fees” - which is a complete lie, these hotels were not going to charge me more for taxes and fees after their charge cleared my card. I wonder how much money I’ve lost over the years thinking Hotwire was cheaper, when clearly it’s not.

Charged multiple times and no hotel

I tried making a last minute reservation using this app like I have in the last only rise time it was for a family emergency. I tried multiple times and got no confirmation number only a error message stating my billing address on my credit card (same one I’ve used on this app every time before) was different. My address has not changed yet I have multiple transactions from Hotwire on my credit card from today’s attempt at making a reservation. If you suspect someone’s billing address is entered as an error then why do you push the transaction through anyways?! My card is locked now until these pending charges fall off and I’ll be sleeping in my car tonight. Thank you for not helping me out in my time of need!

I had two hotel booking fails while in Austin, TX this weekend. I booked my first hotel 7/26 through the app as I’ve been pleased with hotel results from previous use. I got an email an hour before we were planning on checking in saying “hotel reservation is canceled due to hotel not being able to accommodate reservation request”. I had called the hotel the week before to confirm my request and was told I was all set. Per the email from Hotwire, I could either get a complete refund or they would help me book a new hotel and pay the difference in bookings. Seeing how I absolutely needed a hotel that night after driving 19 hours, I responded to the text link saying I needed a new hotel. The agent said to book again thorough the app. I did so and had to pay full price (no credit was put on my account or towards the new booking) the agent promised to start the full refund from the cancelled booking since she couldn’t do anything else on her end. Fast forward to checking into my second hotel booked through Hotwire. Turns out hotel was completely booked as of that morning, had no rooms available and closed off any online bookings at 7 am this morning. His hotel should not have popped up in the options through Hotwire despite my confirmation number. So now I have $500 worth of pending refunds that I should get returned to me in 7-10 business days and some Hotwire credit for my inconvenience for my future bookings with Hotwire. Not happening. Would not use or recommend this app/service to anyone. Extremely frustrated and disappointed with this company

My stay was on 8/7-8/8 the hotel is nice and quiet. However when I got to my room and took my shoes off the floor was very sticky as if the last guest had wasted something and it wasn’t cleaned properly and the remote was sticky also. It was pretty gross. There was a cardinals game going on and it is Covid so they may have been very busy but it should’ve been cleaned properly.

Use this app all the time. Out of no where it stopped letting me sign in. I even updated my passwords abs went as far as creating a new account. I travel for my job and it’s something a hassle having to re-enter the same information over and over. I updated all my apps, my phone etc. and nothing. Kind of annoying. Please fix it!

This app participates in scamming customers. BE CAREFUL of car deals (e.g., NU car rentals) on this platform because you may get double charged (one at the discounted rate and another at the full rate). Customer support is awful and rude. No reply after a complaint. Never again. YOU ARE WARNED.

There are deals on here, no doubt about it. However their strict policies don’t allow for any change even if the fault is on their end. I attempted to book a rental car for an upcoming trip and was given an “Error- transaction can not be processed” message. I closed and re-opened the app and re-booked the same rental. The second attempt approved immediately. However, to my surprise I got trip information for both reservations in my profile. Agents through chat and on the phone confirmed that the details of the reservation were the same and scheduled minutes apart, but there was nothing they could do and I would have to choose which reservation to fulfill and waste the second. A supervisor also confirmed that while it was impossible for me to pick up two rental cars, at the same location, on the same date- that her agents were correct in telling me that Hotwire would not refund either one of the $170 charges. Turns out saving 50% isn’t that great of a deal when you have to buy the same thing twice.👎

Hotwire just robbed me of $ 276 for a car and $570 for hotel reservation.I called them that same day when our flight was cancel they told me I’m gonna get email to 10 business days and then I’m gonna get my money back after two weeks They told me there is no option to refund the money because they checked and there is no notice about my cancellation Watch out for them !!!

The app does allow you to have good rates at a nice motel. However you don’t get to choose with the hotels. The app sometimes it sends you someplace weird. And sometimes even though you asked for non-smoking. Sometimes it feels like a bait and switch.

I booked an international hotel through Hotwire. They failed to notify the hotel of my stay. The first representative I spoke to couldn’t get in contact with the hotel and could not issue me a refund. He said he could file a ticket that could be solved in 3-5 days but there was not other way he could help me. After speaking to another representative and spending over an hour dealing with the problem we were able to stay in our hotel. We were offered no upgrade or compensation for their mistake.

I attempted to book a rental car in Rapid City South Dakota. After I enter the payment information, hot wire system set goat and fail to complete the transaction. When I went back to the reservation screen. All of my previous information remained in the queue except (to my horrified and expensive chagrin) that hotwire system defaulted the Reto location to Indianapolis my hometown.Within minutes of receiving the confirmation, I tried every means possible to contact hotwire (phone, email, and app messaging).I was never able to reach a person and to date not a single response has been sent to my to inquiries and request for help route hotwires app, except for choirs automated message saying that someone would respond to me properly. Using their phone system I was directed to contact hertz rental car for any changes cancellation or concerns. Their system also would only allow automated, Electronic communications unless I want to pay an additional service charge to reach a human being. Are use hertz system within an hour of making three unintended reservation and receive electronic acknowledgment of cancellation of my reservation. Hertz has never charged hotwire yeah it’s feels that it is within its right to charge me 100% of the “contracted amount with a charge dated July 4, for a reservation made and canceled within an hour of an error triggered by Hotwire’s that Hertz, the ultimate service provider acknowledged as canceled within minutes. There’s no way I believe Hertz has billed or that Hotwire has paid I will ever pay Hertz a nickel for that “phantom“ reservation made on June 21. It was my hope but since I had received no communication from hotwire and an app my cancellation had been acknowledged by hurts, that I would not be charged. Milly my credit card two weeks later and only sending a reminder of my reservation the day before it’s used in August is unjust and deprive me of any opportunity to try to mitigate my loss. Hotwire's customer service is almost nonexistent and it’s business practices are unconscionable. Go to years I bought thousands of dollars worth of services using Hotwire. No more. I’m done with a company that won’t even communicate back through the single message portal it allows its customers.

This used to be a great way to find a great rate. Selection and service has continued to decline. I booked (and paid for) a hotel today and waited thirty minutes to get an answer as to why the hotel has no record of the reservation. They left me stranded and tired. Not the way to start a vacation.

Called Hotwire customer service and was told that reservation never went through and that $1,100 charge would come off in about 7 days, but I could try again and be charged another $1,100. Very cavalier about taking someone’s money. Never again.

They mess up all the time and they don’t make up for it.. they are not even willing to work anything out or help at all. 1)Made one reservation for a hotel back in February 2021! That same night went to the hotel and turns out they overbooked be place so I had no hotel at all and it was 10 pm and I had no place to stay… also all hotels were packed … not willing to get me another hotel, didn’t even notify me about them overbooking and not even a refund or anything because they just take your money and apologize and do literally NOTHING… 4 30 minute calls 4 different representatives and at the end of the day nothing but the amazing hotel was able to help. 2) Made another reservation last night (08/13/2021)! I’m my time zone it was 11:44 pm and I was making the reservation for the next day, had issues with the app at the end was able to make the reservation… didn’t check until the morning and called the hotel just to check and out the app messed up my date… call them many times, one said she tried to process a return through the hotel and it didn’t work( which wasn’t true cause I called the hotel and there was one lady for the whole shift), the next customer representative said that if the hotel was willing to work out the refund the they could work it out but I had to call the hotel cause they weren’t allowed and I did that and the hotel agreed, called a third time and the lady told me that there was nothing they could do after the previous told me they could… the hotel told me they are just not willing to change anything and that it happens all the time cause they don’t care about the customer or do any customer service. Just to clear things out I called the hotel and they told me they cancel reservations by midnight so they allowed the website to get a reservation at 11:44 pm that was gonna expire in the next 15 minutes?????? When I constantly tried to change it and I did and it still got the wrong date … but they are not willing to do literally anything…… They just take your money and hope you won’t have any issues and even if it’s on their end they won’t do anything about it.

Be careful when using any of their hot rate car rental deals and purchasing the Allianz insurance offered trough their app or website. We rented a car trough Hotwire and purchased the Allianz insurance trough the app. The Allianz insurance clearly states that you do not need any additional insurance. The person at the counter would not give us the car unless we paid an additional $30 per day for their insurance. We did not take the car. I have spend one hour on the Hotwire online chat and another hour on the phone and they just refuse to do anything , give the prepaid amount as credit or give a refund.

Despite the great repute, this app is set to rip you off at the first moment. I had an issue when I reached out to them they told me to fix it and when I accepted their offer they ran away and blamed me. Now it's been days and whenever I talked to them they offer no solution: agents supervisors just repeat the same cliche of stealing your money “legally”.

Have used Hotwire for probably 20 years and always had amazing results. But you got to be cool with not knowing exactly the hotel you’re getting. They give you a range and the ratings and it’s never let me down. If you’re the type that needs to know the exact hotel-this is probably not the app for you. If I’m traveling somewhere new and I don’t really know the hotels anyway I’m not sure what difference it makes anyway. when you book a room, it’s done and you can’t change your mind afterwards - or else everybody would be doing that, and that it’s not the way this app works. However, when I have had a problem I’ve always tried to work with me and called the hotel on my behalf to make changes.

I won’t use Hotwire again. I used to go to Hotwire for all my hotel and car reservations but over the past 2 years I have been disappointed every time I used it. The last time I used Hotwire was to book a hotel reservation in Brazil. When I arrived at the hotel, they had no record of my reservation. The Hotwire representative was useless when I called. The hotel that I should have had a reservation with through Hotwire was able to get me a reservation at a partner hotel nearby. Hotwire never acknowledged their error, nor did they try to fix it. With other recent reservations, there have been hidden fees, taxes, resort fees, etc that Hotwire does not tell you about but that you are responsible for at the hotel or car rental agency. Don’t use Hotwire.

Booked my stay at TownePlace Suites by Marriot Ft Myers Estero through a Hot Rate so, I really didn’t know what I was going to get but from the minute we stopped by the Front Desk it was nice experience. Staff was friendly and warm, allowing us to do a earlier Check In, offered suggestions on places of interest etc. The common areas are nicely decorated and clean. Although I didn’t get their best room, it was perfectly sized. The kitchenette has a full size fridge, small range, microwave, plates, utensils even pots. Room was super clean, aside of the king size bed there’s a couch and small desk and like that wasn’t enough they offer other small appliances upon request. Hot breakfast was included, eggs, bacon, hash browns were served by staff and waffle bar for self service. To summarize it was PERFECT, will definitely recommend and return to this hotel

Wow where to start, first I booked a Hot wire deal for a hotel in Shamrock, Tx. I showed up at the hotel by the address found in my confirmation however they could not find my reservation. Come to find out somehow they have this account mixed up with another hotel in Dallas, TX. When I called Hotwire, I was hung up on 3 times due to them “not getting ahold of the hotel to verify reservation” I advised them the phone # they have associated with this hotel is not correct. I provided the correct phone number to them by a simple google search and 1 rep hung up on me when she told me she called them and no one answered. I placed her on hold and called the hotel and they answered immediately. When I told her this she hung up on me. The 2nd time I spoke with a rep she told me the number that I provided to her for the hotel was a cell #. I advised her it isn’t and did a 3 way call with the hotel. They confirmed they did not have a reservation for me and that I am not the first person who this has happened to with them through hotwire. The rep hung up on us during our conversation! The 3rd rep, I don’t even know what happened, I thought she was actually gonna do something but she hung up when I was on hold and it went to some voicemail message. I have NEVER had problems with hotwire before, I use them frequently however I will NEVER use them again after this! I have spent at least 2 hours on the phone with them and I still have not gotten a refund!!!!

Hotwire is by far the worse booking site I could have possibly used. There customer service agents are not helpful, I requested to be escalated to a supervisor and then they ignored my request. My issues were bit resolved and I was unable to receive a refund that even the rental company who I used said they were happy to issue. On my family’s vacation to Florida my wallet was left on the plane. I had my id but sadly my license and such were in the wallet. Upon getting to the car rental place they would not allow me to retrieve the car without the license but they would refund it. Hot wires policy said I needed an id and since I didn’t have it there was nothing they could do to help me. So now I have no car and won’t be refunded. The customer service rep then went on to say I won’t transfer you to a manager because they will just tell me the same and stopped responding. If the company the rental was from would honor a refund I don’t see why Hotwire shouldn’t. Furthermore this would have been easier to accept if the person I spoke with wasn’t so rude and condescending. This was not an ordinary circumstance and if this is their policy I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone. I plan on making complaints on the site until someone gives me a more accurate response. And for the record the booking policy says id not drivers license if this wants to become a technicality thing. BBB will hear this.

So I’ve never had problems with other sites booking a hotel and didn’t expect to have such a headache of a time with these scum. I have had two bad incidents now within two days. First I pick the hotel and the bed and go to book and pay I click pay and it says oops the deal is gone select another room and book now. All the while my card was charged the full amount for the room that was never booked. Now when I contacted them they said they didn’t charge my car that it is a hold placed but not by them so says the rep I’m talking to they can only release the funds and then I have to wait 5-7 days for my money to be put back into my account. So I figured alright I’ll wait. Then couple days later going to book another room what do you know same thing happens again charged my card full price and didn’t book the room at all. Now I’m out a couple hundred dollars until this “release” goes through and I get my money credited back to my account. DO NOT ISE HOTWIRE AT ALL FOR ANY REASON THEY WILL SCREW YOU OVER AND NOT TAKE ACCOUNTABILITY ON THEIR END AND BLAME YOUR BANK AND THAT YOU NEED TO CONTACT THEM INSTEAD OF HOTWIRE IM FILING A COMPLAINT WITH BBB AND MY BANK IS OPENING A FRAUD CLAIM AGAINST THEM FOR THEM SAYING THEY NEVER CHARGED MY CARD YET IT STATES CLEARLY IN MY STATEMENT HOTWIRE SO OF THEY DIDNT AUTHORIZE THE CHARGE THEN ITS FRAUD AND NEED TO BE INVESTIGATED SO IT WILL BE!!!

I booked a hotel through the Hotwire app for the first time a few weeks ago, since a friend recommended Hotwire. It’s a total disappointment when I found that I can get the same hotel / same room at a CHEAPER rate with FREE cancellation. I called Customer Service to ask about their Low Price Guarantee and was told to use the Chat or Message function. I had to spend hours “chatting” with several agents (Celyn, Vince, Jemar, Omar, Mary, Chella) on May 11, chatted with one agent (Bree) on May 10. Everyone told me that my chat history will not disappear and they will get back in 5-10 minutes, which did not occur! When I finally spoke with someone who knew how to search or click on the link I sent, and look at how the other websites are offering lower/better rates, she agreed to issue a refund back to the original form of payment. After checking my bank statements several times, I decided to reach back out to see if they’ve processed my refund. Of course, I was told that because I did not respond during the chat session, they can’t do anything. The agent did NOT even ask me any questions. She was merely stating I’ll get a refund back on the same form of payment. Be careful when using Hotwire because you will NOT get customer service that will provide support.

I originally loved Hotwire. It’s what I’ve used for years to book hotels and rental cars. HOWEVER, their policies are complete garbage if you get stuck in a bind. Especially during Covid-19 and all the special restrictions for each state. I live in New York and our governor doesn’t care about the 2 week quarantine mandate that was lifted by the CDC. So me thinking it was now ok to travel (without having that mandatory quarantine) I booked a trip to Utah with almost 600 dollars worth of hotel nights and car rental days. Once I found out that I couldn’t travel there because of our jobs not wanting us to have to quarantine for two weeks, I immediately got ahold of Hotwire assuming they would respond as a good company like Delta would and show compassion on the matter and refund me for the misunderstanding. Long story short, I talked to four different people with one of them being a supervisor and they all said the same thing. Their policy is this and they will not stray from it no matter what. They wouldn’t even give me credit through Hotwire for the 600 dollars I just lost because of something out of my control. DO NOT USE HOTWIRE. THEY WILL ROB YOU THE FIRST CHANCE THEY GET. There is no compassion, there is no forgiveness. This company is scum and it needs to have light shed on it.

So last week I booked a San Diego trip, I tried Hotwire for the first time! I booked a hotel called 4 points San Diego, we drove from LA through traffic with the adress given by hot wire and arrived to a abandon hotel, we get stoped by a security guard that tells us the place has been shut down because of the pandemic, we tell him how that couldn’t be since I just booked through hot wire, he said a lot of third parties haven’t updated! So I had no choice but to book something within 5 min, because I had 2 children in the back, I end up calling to try and get my money back and a Jose told me sure we’ll give you your money back and 5 dollars hot cash, I said ok I’ll probably won’t use them (something I shouldn’t have said) because he came back on the line and said sorry I investigated more and we can’t give you your money back, the hotel is still there you just went to the wrong addressed and they took it as a no show, I told him how can that be if I went to the address given by them, and he said they’re nothing I can do, it’s my first and last time booking with them, it’s not about the money I lost but it’s the fear of them pulling something like this again!

Booked a hot deal and my card was charged. I was then brought to a screen that said an error occurred and that deal was no longer available. So I had a full trip charged to my card and Hotwire customer care refused to do anything except lay the blame on my credit card company and me. Took 4 days for the credit to be available on my card again. Their customer care department is a third party company out of Malaysia that refuses to give you information on how to contact Hotwire corporate offices after they ultimately refuse to help you. Stay away from Hotwire. They’ll cause your money to be caught in limbo while you watch hotel prices get higher by the day waiting for it to be freed back to available credit. I booked my room directly through Hampton Inn, the hotel Hotwire suggested I’d get with the hot deal and they were more sympathetic to my problem than Hotwire was and provided the same rate. Do yourself a favor and book directly through the hotel. Many times they’ll honor prices found on apps like Hotwire. Avoid Hotwire, Expedia and Priceline. They’re all the same company who doesn’t care about you. Just a middleman trying to carve a slice of something they don’t deserve.

Worst app ever. For most hotels it only shows 1 picture, even when there are dozens on the Hotwire Website. I tried to book a trip on the app anyway, but it kept saying my credit card wasn’t recognized. So I called my credit card company and they said They authorized the transaction, but Hotwire canceled it. So I called Hotwire and they said it’s because I was trying to book a deal that wasn’t available. After hearing this, I looked again, and the deal still showed up on the app. I also had $15 of “HotDollars” credit, which an email said I could use to book, but couldn’t use it on the app. This app is so much worse than the website. As an aside, the Hotdeals, you know, the deal where it’s cheaper because you don’t know which hotel it is? Yeah, that’s terrible because they tack on higher fees. I booked a Hotdeal that was $10 per day cheaper than if I knew which hotel I was booking. Great deal! Except after I checked out, the Hotdeal wound up being about a dollar per day more than the normal booking after taxes and fees were added. TLDR: Hotwire has good deals, just stay away from the app or the Hotdeals.

I booked a hotel through hotwire and when I arrived at the hotel I was told they would not honor my reservation. Because they were overbooked. I called the hot wire customer support number and waited 20 minutes until someone answered. I was on the phone with a customer service rep for another 20 minutes when we got disconnected and no one called me back. I had to call back again and it took another 20 minutes to get a new customer service rep, he attempted to get another reservation and could not find one so he told me he would refund my account and add a complementary credit. He put me on hold but before he did I asked him if he would call me back if we got disconnected he assured me he would, we got disconnected and he never called back. Finally I started a chat with a customer service rep which took almost an hour. The final result of the chat was that he would refund my account and send me a confirmation email. I never got a refund and never got a confirmation email. This is absolutely the worst customer service I’ve ever received. I finally had to dispute the charge on my credit card.

Hotwire car rental is such a scam!!! I booked car online on September 30th and I got HOT RATE for it. When I went to rent a car agency ( Ace ) they told me that there is mile limitation for my reservation ( 150 miles a day ) and that I should cancel reservation because if I go further that 450 miles in 3 days I will pay 25 cents per extra mile. These conditions WERE NOT in terms and conditions when I accepted reservation. I called hot wire after agent in ACE told me to call them and cancel. Hot wire did not wanted to cancel my reservation because they told me it was a blind reservation and it is not refundable?! I told them that even if it is blind reservation they SHOULD put all the conditions when you book it, otherwise I got stuck with the car I cannot use. They said they will put those information in the future 😡 I told them I don't care about the future, I want my money back now because it's crazy to scam people like that and do not put all the conditions when you book a car. I ended up being charged for a car I did not use. PEOPLE SAVE YOUR MONEY, do not use HOTWIRE! Their customer service is rude and their supervisors not doing their job.

The second attempt approved immediately. However, to my surprise I got trip information for both reservations in my profile. Our company is removing Hotwire as an option for future travel needs. Due to human error (or perhaps a manipulation by the app) the incorrect date was selected on a reservation. I did make the mistake of confirming that purchase without rechecking the date. Once the error was determined we contacted Hotwire 24+ hours before reservation and they would not cancel and credit. After reaching a supervisor on phone I brought up the fact confirmation email does specify it is prepaid and can’t be cancelled. She wanted to resend confirmation email so I would have the right polices. She sent the email and well it was the exact same. So now I question if I made a human error in date selection or if app moved date. See the hotel was actually sold out for the dates I believe selected and the Hotwire reservation was a night following when the hotel had availability. In any case, Hotwire was unwilling to offer a credit or refund and chooses to loose out on future business. Poorly run and a shame human error is being taken advantage of. Dirty, old, rude staff, elevator issues

I have no idea how this is a 4 star hotel. Convenient to trolley stop and location feels fairly safe. Otherwise staff is rude, elevator smelled strongly of weed and got stuck with my son and husband in it, if you self park in the garage there is no access to hotel. You have to walk up on foot from the underground parking and enter the hotel through the front doors. It’s a side business run by the valet guys - super shady. Our first room REEKED of cigarettes and we immediately noticed it had not been cleaned. That was confirmed when we opened the toilet and there was urine, ash and a partially smoked cigarette in it. Asked front desk for a new room and they were rude and unapologetic. Second room was cleaner, but still not what I would expect from a 4 star. Maybe a motel 6 level of quality. We booked 2 queens but ended up with 2 doubles (if they were even double size. So very small that the sheets just hung off of them). For the price, I’d definitely skip this one and choose a different hotel.

I’ve used Hotwire twice now, both to book hotels in Charlotte, NC. First one was a 4-Star Hotel in Uptown Charlotte for about $111/night which was about $140 cheaper than any other hotel in the city. Next time I used it we got a 4-Star Hotel in the heart of the city for about $104/night - even better than the first time! Although you may not know exactly where you’re staying at the time of booking, it may be worth while if you are planning on being in a big city or somewhere loaded with hotels because this website will give you the best rate because of that no show until book policy. Just read the details like free WiFi, parking, choose your bed or hotel chooses for you, etc. before booking and you shouldn’t have a problem!!

I used Hotwire to book my car rental for a trip 2 months from now. I had to make a change to the dates so went to the hotwire site, no change button to be found. Called customer service and asked to simply change my itinerary dates and was told not possible and reservation non-refundable. Just like that, a click of the button and they are stealing $300 from me. Whatever contracts they have in place with car rental companies, a customer should be able to make a date change, especially for a trip 2 months down the road. We are not talking about airline seats last minute at risk of going unfilled. This is a silly car rental reservation. At minimum Hotwire, you need a flashing pop-up warning with flames at checkout that says something like, “BEWARE Hotwire sucker, if you dare try to make a date change after you click this, just know it won’t happen because we’ve already charged your credit card and pocketed your money!” Next step, contact my state attorney general and file a complaint.

PLEASE DON’T USE THIS APP! Just go ahead and stick to booking or Airbnb! I had a reservation for Travelodge in Orlando. When I got to the hotel after a long trip, I was informed the system in the hotel wasn’t working and they could not check me in neither cancel my reservation and refund me so I could go to a different hotel. They left me waiting at the lobby for 2 hours until they could finally get me a room at another hotel. you would think problem solved, right? Wrong! The new hotel was not only more expensive than the one I had already booked, but it was also not as nice. I had booked a room with a king bed and they could only offer me a room with two twin beds. It was a downgrade. In addition, they wouldn’t refund me for relocation costs (such as Uber to the new hotel) nor pay for the difference in price. I wasn’t offered any kind of compensation either! Very poor customer service! I’m very disappointed with the Hotwire app and will never use it again.

Hotwire sometimes has a good deal, but I wonder if saving $15 now and then is really worth dealing with their unpleasant customer service. They booked me into a hotel that ended up being full, and was talked by their customer service into accepting the refund with Hot Dollars when they told me I would not get my refund for 9 days otherwise. They did not bother to tell me that you can only use Hot Dollars on their website where the prices are like $4 more so I had to call them back to figure out to login on their website. They did absolutely nothing beyond wasting my time putting me on hold to confirm over the phone with my original hotel that they overbooked, reading me terms and conditions for another 10 minutes and making me pay $4 extra on a different hotel to make me happier after they made my evening such a hassle. My recommendation is to avoid their crummy Hot Dollars for refunds. Live and learn.

Hello, I will say that I have booked multiple rooms with great views of the city. Being able to use the Hotwire app to see where I get options for hotels allows me to accurately determine where I would like to be located within the city I select. Do not hesitate, Hotwire gives you top of the line rooms for a very affordable price. Everywhere I’ve stayed has been absolutely beautiful, I have plenty of places for food, Drinks and restaurants. Also the staff always shows top of the line professional service. Even during Covid 19, If you want to be smart with your funds and still book with a luxurious look, Book with Hotwire, I promise you that you won’t forget a memorable stay. 🏨🔥

Multiple time problems with Hotwire. Their customer service is basically to tell you there’s nothing they can do. I’ve paid for hotels that were fully inhabited aka no vacancy and got no refund and had to pay again. I’ve booked a room and they put me in an unfinished room like a closet - no refund or discount. I’ve been kicked out of a hotel bc it was for out of state travelers and I live in the state I guess too local for them - no compensation and today I didn’t fully send a payment with apple pay and it didnt authorize my card. Then I went back on the browser and got a new room, and Hotwire charged me twice for the same date. Again I called and nothing. Just sorry no refund. Why would I book two hotels on the same night? I guess I forget all these horrible times getting stiffed by Hotwire bc I continue to book thru them. I guess I deserve what I get for being stupid.

I can’t tell you how many times plans have quickly changed when I’m at the airport or in a different city or need to head somewhere really quick, and I log onto Hotwire app and my problem solved in less than five minutes. This thing really is amazing, and it’s way cheaper than booking directly through the hotel . I’ve also had to cancel my reservations several times before, and hotwire was gracious enough to call the hotels and get the reservation canceled even though their policy says otherwise. I can’t tell you how happy I am for this given our plans change last minute so frequently, especially given Covid. I love hotwire.

I'm a long time user of Hotwire and thought to have learned the ins and outs of the app through experience but when I booked a rentacar with Ace @ LAX I was greatly disappointed to discover not only is Hotwire deceptive but also dishonest. They are swindlers! A few days before pickup they issue a notice on where to pick up your car. It stated there’s a shuttle from the airport to Ace but sure enough I soon discovered there is no shuttle bus to Ace whatsoever! In fact, ACE's scam is to use other car rental shuttles (thrifty is closest). I was walking around the airport jet lagged after a 10 hour flight like a zombie with my family in tow trying to get to my car. It’s absurd! I attempted to get a taxi but they told me $30 min for a 5 min. ride. Finally I figured out how to get there by thrifty's shuttle. What’s more, I wrote a long letter to Hotwire explaining my predicament and got no response. They never reply to these reviews here because they are swindlers and liars. I pray nobody goes through rentacar hell like I did.
Won’t even switch hotels when you’re in danger

Last year I used Hotwire and I got booked at a Hotel that I was previously booked at through Hotwire in another year and which I felt very unsafe. When I called to see if I could switch hotels and explained to them that the previous year I had an incident happened to me where I was assaulted at that hotel, they refused to change me into another hotel and told me that all bookings were final. It took me two hours to finally get them to at least change my Hotel as they would not give me a refund. I gave them another chance and I am really angry that I did. This year, I wanted to book a hotel and after entering in a different credit card information for whatever reason it booked a different listed hotel that I did not want to stay at. When I called to rectify The situation they would not do anything about it. I never write reviews and I really hope that no one ever uses this service ever they’re awful.

I booked a hotel for the past weekend in a 4 star hotel. I get there and there was a “pipe” issue so they said don’t worry we will place you in another hotel. Whatever as long as I get a bed for the night. The following night I go back and ask if I can get a room in the hotel I paid for, they said no. They send me back on my way to a cheaper hotel and I have no choice some I’m obviously using a hotel because I do not live in the area. Now, the following day I send Hotwire support a message and they say that they can not do anything to help me because I accepted the redirect and am contacting them after the booking was used? How am I supposed to know that I needed to contact Hotwire the minute my room was not available. I assumed the hotel would right their issues and waited, now it turns out they were not able to and it’s my fault? Well it is according to Hotwire. Beware when booking through Hotwire.

I use Hotwire several times a week. Always have values on quality establishments. A few days ago, in my car with afternoon sun and 100 degrees, I mistakenly ordered a room for the wrong night. Once I figured how to text with them, as other methods were having issues, they listen to my mistake. Having studied contract law, and read the terms, Hotwire did not have any responsibility to credit my account. They did not have to, but they did refund my mistake and got me an another room at the same hotel. That is what good service is.

I can’t voice my disappointment enough in this hotel. I came to Chicago to shop and go to a play. I input ‘downtown’ when making the reservation and even called the hotel, when I saw it was an option, to ask if it was walking distance to the main shopping areas. I was there three nights and paid more for urber rides than the hotel! I would have done so much more in Chicago if it wasn’t an additional $20+ to get to the city. Hotel itself was okay. Tiny and old. Plus when you get there an additional $20 per night, in the small print when you book, for extra amenities that you will never use. Spa down the road, discount at the bar(that was never open late enough to use). Live and learn. Unless you are planning on staying in the Gold Coast area book someplace else. The extra for the room is worth it. Ended up costing me over $100+ more than planned.
Terrible app for a terrible company

This app and the company behind it are horrible and you can save yourself a lot of pain by avoiding them both. I was trying to book a hotel for the following week and noticed that the app kept changing my dates to the current day every time I refreshed the search. Finally booked one and thought I was good to go. When I arrive at the hotel they have no idea who I am and it turns out the app booked the hotel for the same night I booked it. Then the hotel says someone checked in and used the reservation. I called Hotwire and they said since it’s a “HotRate” deal there are absolutely no refunds or changes, which apparently includes their system screwing up. So now I payed for someone else’s hotel room last week and had to get a last minute room at full price when I arrived totaling over $700 for what ended up being a 7 hour stay in the hotel. I will never use anything with the Hotwire name again

I never had problems with booking before this time. I booked an hotel of whom front desk refused to give me the room and was rude. I turned it to Hotwire to get reimbursed and kept on the phone for more than 40 minutes. Assistant said “you know we book the cheapest prices...” I told him “it doesn’t matter since the service is rejected”, he tried to call the front desk themselves which they said it is rude as well. Asked me again of what has happened: I told him the details again but wondered “are you trying to blame me cause I said this already why are you asking again” he said “no I am actually on your side but trying to find the reason to tell them they should reimburse me”. He apologized he wouldn’t be able to reimburse me in this case as the hotel refuses. By the way the hotel is whom have told me reimbursement is not theirs it is Hotwire’s.

I have booked hotel in CA from Hotwire. when I reached Hotel at 1 AM after flight delays and all, the hotel ppl informed me that Hotwire didn’t send at information or booking info with my name. Contacted Hotwire customer care and received no response from them. Booked same room for double the price at 2AM. The next day contacted Hotwire after 24 hours they cancelled my hotel trip and refunded my original amount not the difference which I paid. Customer service was so bad said you have paid that with your card so Hotwire is not going to refund that money. I lost money because of this faulty application or bad service. Don’t use Hotwire and seems like I’m not the first person, lot of people faced similar issues. DON’T USE HOTWIRE JUST FOR SAVING 30-50 use direct site or any other application but not Hotwire.
Hotwire bait and switch app is misleading

Hotwire uses bait and switch when you book with them. They said I was guaranteed to receive my car rental from Enterprise Alamo National Hertz Dollar Budget. When I went to book car rental they gave me Advantage. I called them to mention that advantage was not advertise in my five guaranteed car rentals companies. They did a bait and switch on me and they refused to switch me to one of the other car rental companies. In which they advised I was guaranteed in their online listing. I reviewed advantage and their customer reviews had so many negative complaints with this car rental company. I didn’t feel safe using them for my family trip. Hotwire refuses to issue me a refund or switch me the the rental company that they guaranteed to me. I will never use Hotwire ever again. Poor customer service and not a trusting company. Their bait and switch was very this honest. Buyers beware

Warning false advertising - just as another reviewer experienced I was also charged for a room but then receive an error. Which means the room and that deal “got away” which is bs. I called and they stated the price went up reason why it did not book but yet charged my card. So I asked can you they use that credit to pay the difference to book another room they said no. So I let it be and waited til the next today to see if my credit card got refunded back. Nothing yet..... so I saw the same deal again (my mistake) and I tried to book it and the same error I received. I got charged again, so now I have two charges pending. I understand that it’s not fully charged just a hold but on my end it shows that it’s charged, now I have to wait 3-5 days. So now I can’t book anything for my birthday weekend. So be aware DONT USE HOTWIRE - PURE FALSE ADVERTISING!!!!

Please be aware that Hotwire uses second rate chains for the hot rate . Yes the price is low but you get what you pay for! In this case aggravation . Do not book with easi rent, ace, sixt or the like!!!! They keep you in a building for over an hour with a fan in 80 degree weather! Then they haggle you for up charges ! First they will tell you a scare tactic to buy additional coverage for 11 dollars a day! If you do not have a PAPER copy of your personal full auto coverage they will not accept that you have adequate insurance and tell you they will not rent you a car! Second they badger you to buy a sun pass for tolls and gas from them. Please keep toll receipts in case u get a bill from them. To save a few bucks it not worth it. Go to a name brand car company !!

I booked a hotel and one of my main filters was a hotel with a pool. I chose the hotel but upon arrival noticed construction going on at the hotel near the pool. I then ask the receptionist and she says it will be opened the next day, FOR SURE. The next day, the new girl now working the front desk, says the pool will be opened after 5. Again I let it go because our reservations were for a few days and we would have time to hang out by the pool once it opened. I return to the hotel later that same day with my two children and husband to see posted signs saying the pool will not be opened til renovations are completed. I was very disappointed with Hotwire for not letting me know this hotels pool would be out of service and then the hotel, Comfort suites Odessa, for giving me the run around. Very inconvenient and upsetting. I work hard for my money and want what I pay for.

Hotel housekeeping was not consistent in cleaning the room and many days by 5 pm had to call down before the came to clean. Days that didn’t clean dishes leave coffee pods left sand in the shower etc. secondly we lost power 3 times and twice in one day and was unable to work and one night had to move to a different room. The second time we waited over one hour for the main fence guy from another property of there’s to come an couldn’t even find the power box we had to go switch it back on. After the third time this happened we asked them to in some way for spoiled food in fridge plus all the other inconveniences plus one day not be able to work and losing work I asked for some sort of compensation and for 45 minutes attempted to reach something and hotel refuse to do anything for all the issues that we clearly there responsibility

One star only because it’s not possible to give no stars and write a review. I cannot begin to tell you the level of aggravation I have when dealing with this specific company. Three times in a row my last name has been changed on my reservations from my actual last name to my husband‘s last name I have changed it in the app I have changed it in any of my pay accounts and still it changes it to my husband‘s last name and because of course it’s one of those special promotions where it’s 20% off or whatever, IM NOW OUT $60 and don’t have anywhere FOR MY CHILDREN to sleep tonight! Guess we get to camp out in the van BECAUSE SOMEONE CAN NOT FIX THE PROBLEM WITH THE AP! Would I recommend the app OR THE COMPANY? NO!!! You couldn’t PAY ME enough to say this was a wonderful experience. It’s not a user error, I’m not the only one.

I had enjoyed using hotwire in the past. However, my last experience has made me change my view on hotwire service. I got a rental car through hotwire. On the day of my travel, the rental car company had no cars available. I was told that the wait could be 2-3 hours as 6 parties ahead of me were waiting for cars. I cant sit around at airport for 2-3 hours. So I got another rental car from a different company. I contacted Hotwire right after I left the airport. I was told that they will take care of it. After I came back from my business trip, I contacted them again regarding the credit, I was told that they are working on it. 2 weeks later, no one called me or followed up on this. No credit was issued. Now I have to dispute through my credit card company. Very disappointed with their service.

Twice. Over a 2 day period while visiting hotels in Idaho traveling around National Parks I booked through Hotwire. When I arrived at the hotels the staff double charged me (I thought they took my card for incidentals) since the card they had from Hotwire didn’t work. Luckily I check my card statement and saw what was happening. I’m glad though, because come to find out BOTH hotels charged me significantly less (10%+ savings) than the charges from Hotwire. And when I questioned Hotwire about it they said “it’s because of the taxes and fees” - which is a complete lie, these hotels were not going to charge me more for taxes and fees after their charge cleared my card. I wonder how much money I’ve lost over the years thinking Hotwire was cheaper, when clearly it’s not.

Long time user of Hotwire for years...to the tune of tens of thousands of $$...no joke. Business, pleasure, family trips, you name it. Have touted this company and its simplicity with friends and family forever as I believed in its value. No more. Just spent 59 min on hold with them and was hung up on...after following email instructions. Unfortunately, this is a recurring theme. I had to contact them back in 2013 re: plane changes and it took 2 days to talk to someone. It was eventually fixed but we still laugh at the amount of time (hours) it took. Absolutely NOT worth the hassle. Fool me once... Word to the wise...90% of the time, you save money. The remaining 10% of the time when you have unexpected changes/life pop up...this is NOT the company to deal with. Will not use again
Very bad customer service

Hotwire will never help you when a situation arises that’s out of your control or when they are at fault. For example, I reserved a hotel that Hotwire stated they had an airport shuttle. I called for the shuttle but the hotel said they don’t service the airport I was at. I called Hotwire and they would not transfer the to another hotel near the airport I was at even though the hotel accessed the cancellation/change. Another time, I got a hotel that was to be a 2.5 star rating. I showed up and this hotel had massage parlors, and other sketchy businesses in the rooms of the hotel. I took pictures and sent them to Hotwire. They would not cancel or change the reservation even though this star rating was not accurate. Hotwire customer service is by far the worst experience I’ve ever encountered.
Charged multiple times and no hotel

I tried making a last minute reservation using this app like I have in the last only rise time it was for a family emergency. I tried multiple times and got no confirmation number only a error message stating my billing address on my credit card (same one I’ve used on this app every time before) was different. My address has not changed yet I have multiple transactions from Hotwire on my credit card from today’s attempt at making a reservation. If you suspect someone’s billing address is entered as an error then why do you push the transaction through anyways?! My card is locked now until these pending charges fall off and I’ll be sleeping in my car tonight. Thank you for not helping me out in my time of need!

What a joke. I’ve booked dozens of trips on Hotwire, ever had an issue ... until yesterday. I booked a room for my daughter and I on the beach for a few days in the future. A few hours later I get an email saying the hotel refuses to honor the deal. So I call Hotwire and after 20 mins on hold someone comes on the line. I tell them what happened and they put me on hold to find a solution. After another 20 mins on hold I get hung up on. Then, the next morning I spend almost 2 hours trying to communicate on this worthless app’s chat feature with a worker who likely WAY over worked. Nearly two hours and no solution, just a hand full of responses, 20 mins apart, none of which provided any solutions. I deleted the app and will not be using Hotwire again.

I highly recommend hotwire !! I'm in Denver, CO now. I traveled from Chicago 14 hours, I had reservations at the hotel. I arrived at 11:30 PM, at the hotel and they told me that there was some issue in the room and there are no available room for me. I called the hotwire at 11:40 PM. customer service found a room for me in the same area and they paid 180 USD for 4 stars hotel. I received a confirmation email and the address of the new hotel. I paid only $ 90 and hotwire paid $ 180 and found me a room at 11:40 PM in 4 star hotel. I am very pleased, I recommend Hotwire.

After booking a car through Hotwire I was assigned Nu Car Rentals in Phoenix. We took the shuttle to the car rental hub and ended up at the info counter since we couldn’t find the rental company (apparently you need to take a second shuttle). I was then informed that Nu Car Rentals was closed! After multiple calls and more than an hour with customer service over the phone they offered no solution to provide a rental. The best they could do was give me prices for a one day rental so I could come back the following day. Maybe understandable if we were significantly delayed or if it late was late at night but this was at four in the afternoon and the company closed 30 minutes after we were scheduled to pick up the car! We are done with Hotwire!
Beware of booking unnamed hotels

I booked a night at unnamed 2 star hotel in Anaheim one night. When I arrived, there were 2 squad cars in the parking lot interrogating someone. There were several ladies of questionable circumstance hanging out in the doorways of their rooms. I then looked up reviews of this motel online and found out this place was notorious for drug use, prostitution, etc. Before checking in, I called Hotwire to let them know of the situation. They were not willing to make any adjustments. I wasn’t expecting the Ritz but this place was beyond safe. This was especially sad since it was blocks away from Disneyland. What if a family had booked there? There was no way I was going to stay there and called it a loss. Hotwire was not willing to make any amends. I never used their app again.

I booked a hotel on Hotwire. I arrived at about 10pm only to find out that the hotel was over booked. The hotel said they would tell the third party (Hotwire) that they would approve a refund for the night and comp me a night stay at a nearby motel. Once I spoke to Hotwire, they said that they would apply a credit in my Hotwire account in addition and this credit would be good for a year. Luckily I called Hotwire back to confirm the credits. The new guy customer service rep informed me that the credit in my Hotwire account was what I was getting. After a conversation explaining that I didn’t understand it that way I asked to just credit my card. Let’s think about this, if I don’t use that credit within the years time I just lose the money! That sounds like a scam and will be in touch with the better business burea.

I haven’t used their services in years because of what happened tonight. I get to the hotel and they tell me that my reservation isn’t valid because the room isn’t habitable (busted a/c in a Southern summer). I call support and I’m put on hold so long that I’m able to drive to a completely different hotel, check in, and get settled into my room before they answer. And then I get the run around. (Btw, I was able to write and proofread this review before getting anywhere with support.) Edit: I was informed that I wasn’t turned away from the hotel according to the hotel records. Ok. So alternative facts are in effect now. I’ll take my L. Y’all got my $70. I’m going to aggressively talk to my family and friends about using your services.

This app is really well designed. We were able to score a great deal on a hotel in downtown Chicago for a family staycation. Thanks to the advanced filters, we could narrow down to a specific neighborhood and find a hotel with a pool. The kids had a blast and we were able to use some of our savings to splurge on a nice meal at the hotel restaurant. I will definitely continue to use Hotwire and will certainly recommend this app to my friends and family. Thank you Hotwire!

I won’t use Hotwire again. I used to go to Hotwire for all my hotel and car reservations but over the past 2 years I have been disappointed every time I used it. The last time I used Hotwire was to book a hotel reservation in Brazil. When I arrived at the hotel, they had no record of my reservation. The Hotwire representative was useless when I called. The hotel that I should have had a reservation with through Hotwire was able to get me a reservation at a partner hotel nearby. Hotwire never acknowledged their error, nor did they try to fix it. With other recent reservations, there have been hidden fees, taxes, resort fees, etc that Hotwire does not tell you about but that you are responsible for at the hotel or car rental agency. Don’t use Hotwire.

I paid for a hotel that I didn’t even use and I was told I can’t change it because I made the human error of not fixing it when I booked it the night before the day I was going to actually stay. They said they can’t help me because it’s a hotel policy and hotel tells me they can’t change it because it’s a Hotwire policy. I was told by aloft I can change the date and Hotwire told me no at all. They didn’t wanna help me out but just say sorry we took your money have a nice day.....after spending a lot of money with Hotwire already it’s disappointing. I loved Hotwire but now will only use trip advisor or kayak. Trip advisor gave me a first time discount for the inconvenience of Hotwire. Definitely recommended trip advisor

No Longer a Credible Travel Broker IMO

I booked a car rental and was tricked. But TECHNICALLY it was my fault and Hotwire texting representative Janeth let me know. Hotwire puts policy over people. I booked the car rental to drive from SLC to Las Vagas. The booking screen said “unlimited miles for non-local renters” (after going back a reviewing). I understood it that I would have unlimited miles like every other auto rental I’ve ever had provides. The fine print states: “Some local rentals do not offer unlimited mileage.” Well, you don’t know which rental agency it is until after the purchase on a Hotwire “hot buy.” I got to the auto rental place. They wanted to charge me an additional $20 per day for unlimited mileage. I drove my own car out of principle. The Hotwire representative was completely and totally unhelpful. She just quoted their policy and basically told me to take a hike. They wouldn’t allow a credit to be applied to a different auto rental company. Just you’re out of luck. I don’t believe hotwire should do business with auto rental companies that don’t offer unlimited mileage without providing a bold disclaimer upfront that tells the purchaser to beware. Especially when there are other reputable auto rental companies that are offering unlimited mileage for similar prices in Hotwire listings. The buyer needs to understand what they are and are not getting because the bad auto rental companies are being associated with the good ones. The customer is the one that suffers. My money was not refunded and I did not take the rental car — drove my own. I am deleting my Hotwire profile and will never book the through Hotwire again.

I’ve been booking with hot wire for many many years trips to Puerto Rico, Honduras, Mexico and trips all over the United States rental cars hotels I mean I’ve done it all with Hotwire they always have the best prices and several times that I’ve had to contact Customer Service it’s always been pleasant and I’ve never ever had an issue with hotwire.

I’ve used Hotwire for decades and have never been disappointed. Value based app! I use mostly for hotels but have booked several autos as well. I travel a lot mostly for pleasure but have used for business several times as well. I plan to continue using!

I had a 4 day trip in California with my partner and chose this place to be our designated hotel given its cheap pricing and "FREE BREAKFAST" included. As soon as we arrive to check in I asked the front desk person if she could provide information about breakfast (hours, where, etc.) and was told that there is no breakfast. I then showed her my reservation, which specifically stated that breakfast was included, and she said that they don't provide any breakfast but instead provide guests with a $10 voucher per room to eat at a cafe next door. Well, the cafe next door is fairly expensive and it would cost us close to 180 extra to pay for breakfast for 2 people every one of the next 4 mornings. The $10 voucher per room would be able to pay for one cappuccino and that's it. Literally. Anyway, I then asked if there was something Hotwire.com could do about and if the hotel could do something about it. Maybe give us some money back? Maybe give us a few additional vouchers? SOMETHING? Both Hotwire.com and the hotel did absolutely nothing to address the situation. I ended up paying almost $200 for breakfast for 2 for 4 days that I did not anticipate. All I got from the hotel was "that's weird. Not sure why your reservation said that it included breakfast. It shouldn't say that". All I got from Hotwire.com was "there's nothing we can do besides offering you a 25% coupon for your next booking with us. Aside from all of this stress that was super sketchy, unethical, shady, irresponsible, an unprofessional, the hotel is mediocre.

You really need to read the fine printing, tons of bad loop holes with fake promises:: it’s a hit and miss, it really can come in handy and SAVE you TIME & MONEY but you need to be adventurous and NOT a PICKY PERSON to enjoy HotWire or it’s App. Good Luck MY PEEPS!

I booked a hotel in Houston from Hotwire App like I always do before a trip. It said “SOLD OUT” so I rebooked a second hotel. This time it sent me an email with a confirmation number. When I almost arrived to Houston, I checked my phone and realized they charged me for the sold out hotel. I immediately called Hotwire to inform them the issue. The agent told me to not worries, he only see the second booking on his end. I said “okay” because it was only pending. Today I checked my bank and saw 2 booking have been posted. I called and hold for over 1 hour, and they said they can’t give me a refund. The first booking confirmation already sent to my “secondary private email” which I don’t even know or own it. I have a worst experience with Hotwire after years of using it.

I can’t tell you how many times plans have quickly changed when I’m at the airport or in a different city or need to head somewhere really quick, and I log onto Hotwire app and my problem solved in less than five minutes. This thing really is amazing, and it’s way cheaper than booking directly through the hotel . I’ve also had to cancel my reservations several times before, and hotwire was gracious enough to call the hotels and get the reservation canceled even though their policy says otherwise. I can’t tell you how happy I am for this given our plans change last minute so frequently, especially given Covid. I love hotwire.

Call the hotels directly. The rates are better, and you’ll have a better experience when something goes wrong. Hotwire support can’t do anything. They are there to make people think there are options, but in reality they are there to stonewall and wear people down. Hotwire is owned by Expedia, by the way, so don’t use Expedia either.

The app shows old rates. Wastes your time entering info in just to say sorry, we cannot process the transaction. Your card hasn’t been charged. I wasted a whole night doing this and finally called just for them to say all the deals I tried to book are no longer available but when I get back on the app all deals are still advertised. I’ve never had a problem with Hotwire before this, huge headache.

I booked a hotel through the app to take advantage of their latest promo. Before I checked out, I applied the promo, and it showed the discount with the final amount that will be charged to my card. After I pressed pay now, the total changed and the discount was no where to be found. What?? I messaged customer service, and they were not able to help. All they could offer is credit to my Hotwire account, not back to my credit card. This made me want to cancel my entire booking, but they have a no refund policy. That is not right to change the final amount that you are paying. Now I will have to contact my credit card company to dispute the charges. What a hassle! I’m never booking though them again.

Hotwire sometimes has a good deal, but I wonder if saving $15 now and then is really worth dealing with their unpleasant customer service. They booked me into a hotel that ended up being full, and was talked by their customer service into accepting the refund with Hot Dollars when they told me I would not get my refund for 9 days otherwise. They did not bother to tell me that you can only use Hot Dollars on their website where the prices are like $4 more so I had to call them back to figure out to login on their website. They did absolutely nothing beyond wasting my time putting me on hold to confirm over the phone with my original hotel that they overbooked, reading me terms and conditions for another 10 minutes and making me pay $4 extra on a different hotel to make me happier after they made my evening such a hassle. My recommendation is to avoid their crummy Hot Dollars for refunds. Live and learn.

As long as you have reasonable expectations, you will enjoy this app. There are savings to be had, if you are willing to book a hotel site unseen. I’ve been doing it for years, and have rarely been disappointed. I think the ones complaining aren’t playing the game right.

I booked a car rental through the app. Before booking I read the terms and conditions and it said all rentals except “Hot Rates” can be cancelled or changed at anytime. When I called to get a lower advertised rate they said my booking was “non refundable”. I have screen shots of everything and even talked to a supervisor and their only excuse was that my itinerary that was emailed AFTER the booking said the rate was non refundable...and actually ended the call and could not show me where in the booking process it showed it was non-refundable! They are such liars and I’ve lost all respect for them. At least my bank will believe me and refund my reservation!

DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME - I have spent over an hour on this. I find a reasonable deal on a hotel, book it with a credit card that I use all the time, that’s perfectly fine, and it gives me a vague error saying that it doesn’t work and my card has NOT been charged. However, the card HAS been charged, because I get text messages when my card is charged. I called the company, and there is nothing they can do about it, because the website is like a separate company and get separate deals (and customer service at the phone number can’t get the same prices as the website).

This app will always send you to Dollar or Thrifty, which are the worst rental companies in the US. You’d be stuck behind a line of 50 people while Alamo, Avis, Herz will be empty. And then there’s “the service”. Save yourself headache and time and just book through Expedia or Kayak and know what you’re getting. You also get no option to cancel with Hotwire. Horrible

When I saw a 2.5 stars hotel, they will tell you you might get a Holiday Inn. And I want something better so I choose to bid 3 stars hotel, and they have me a 2 stars motel! The motel is bad, no breakfast, no amenities, nothing! Just hot coffee at front desk!!! The fraud app didn’t give any refund, and just want to give me “HOT Dollar” for future use. I will never use this fraud app and I will call my lawyer for settlement!!! Don’t use it!

If you book with Hotwire be sure to keep your fingers crossed that you don’t have the displeasure of having to deal with their customer service team. This has been an awful experience, I will never book with Hotwire again. I heavily recommend that you don’t either. Go with Any other option. After the additional 25% you pay in hidden fees, you barely save any money anyway.

Worst experience I’ve ever had and they do not work with you at all! You spend two hours going in circles all because you want at least a credit for canceling. I booked a room thinking it was a great deal. Then I looked closer at the charges and realized the TAXES AND FEES WERE MORE THAN DOUBLE what they would have been without the hot rate. When I ask for an explanation and a breakdown of the increased taxes and fees I was told they could not give me that information. In the end I would have paid less without the hot rate. I really don’t appreciate this kind of dishonest business model and will not be using Hotwire in the future.

Twice. Over a 2 day period while visiting hotels in Idaho traveling around National Parks I booked through Hotwire. When I arrived at the hotels the staff double charged me (I thought they took my card for incidentals) since the card they had from Hotwire didn’t work. Luckily I check my card statement and saw what was happening. I’m glad though, because come to find out BOTH hotels charged me significantly less (10%+ savings) than the charges from Hotwire. And when I questioned Hotwire about it they said “it’s because of the taxes and fees” - which is a complete lie, these hotels were not going to charge me more for taxes and fees after their charge cleared my card. I wonder how much money I’ve lost over the years thinking Hotwire was cheaper, when clearly it’s not.

Charged multiple times and no hotel

I tried making a last minute reservation using this app like I have in the last only rise time it was for a family emergency. I tried multiple times and got no confirmation number only a error message stating my billing address on my credit card (same one I’ve used on this app every time before) was different. My address has not changed yet I have multiple transactions from Hotwire on my credit card from today’s attempt at making a reservation. If you suspect someone’s billing address is entered as an error then why do you push the transaction through anyways?! My card is locked now until these pending charges fall off and I’ll be sleeping in my car tonight. Thank you for not helping me out in my time of need!

I had two hotel booking fails while in Austin, TX this weekend. I booked my first hotel 7/26 through the app as I’ve been pleased with hotel results from previous use. I got an email an hour before we were planning on checking in saying “hotel reservation is canceled due to hotel not being able to accommodate reservation request”. I had called the hotel the week before to confirm my request and was told I was all set. Per the email from Hotwire, I could either get a complete refund or they would help me book a new hotel and pay the difference in bookings. Seeing how I absolutely needed a hotel that night after driving 19 hours, I responded to the text link saying I needed a new hotel. The agent said to book again thorough the app. I did so and had to pay full price (no credit was put on my account or towards the new booking) the agent promised to start the full refund from the cancelled booking since she couldn’t do anything else on her end. Fast forward to checking into my second hotel booked through Hotwire. Turns out hotel was completely booked as of that morning, had no rooms available and closed off any online bookings at 7 am this morning. His hotel should not have popped up in the options through Hotwire despite my confirmation number. So now I have $500 worth of pending refunds that I should get returned to me in 7-10 business days and some Hotwire credit for my inconvenience for my future bookings with Hotwire. Not happening. Would not use or recommend this app/service to anyone. Extremely frustrated and disappointed with this company

My stay was on 8/7-8/8 the hotel is nice and quiet. However when I got to my room and took my shoes off the floor was very sticky as if the last guest had wasted something and it wasn’t cleaned properly and the remote was sticky also. It was pretty gross. There was a cardinals game going on and it is Covid so they may have been very busy but it should’ve been cleaned properly.

Use this app all the time. Out of no where it stopped letting me sign in. I even updated my passwords abs went as far as creating a new account. I travel for my job and it’s something a hassle having to re-enter the same information over and over. I updated all my apps, my phone etc. and nothing. Kind of annoying. Please fix it!

There are deals on here, no doubt about it. However their strict policies don’t allow for any change even if the fault is on their end. I attempted to book a rental car for an upcoming trip and was given an “Error- transaction can not be processed” message. I closed and re-opened the app and re-booked the same rental. The second attempt approved immediately. However, to my surprise I got trip information for both reservations in my profile. Agents through chat and on the phone confirmed that the details of the reservation were the same and scheduled minutes apart, but there was nothing they could do and I would have to choose which reservation to fulfill and waste the second. A supervisor also confirmed that while it was impossible for me to pick up two rental cars, at the same location, on the same date- that her agents were correct in telling me that Hotwire would not refund either one of the $170 charges. Turns out saving 50% isn’t that great of a deal when you have to buy the same thing twice.👎

Hotwire just robbed me of $ 276 for a car and $570 for hotel reservation.I called them that same day when our flight was cancel they told me I’m gonna get email to 10 business days and then I’m gonna get my money back after two weeks They told me there is no option to refund the money because they checked and there is no notice about my cancellation Watch out for them !!!

The app does allow you to have good rates at a nice motel. However you don’t get to choose with the hotels. The app sometimes it sends you someplace weird. And sometimes even though you asked for non-smoking. Sometimes it feels like a bait and switch.

I booked an international hotel through Hotwire. They failed to notify the hotel of my stay. The first representative I spoke to couldn’t get in contact with the hotel and could not issue me a refund. He said he could file a ticket that could be solved in 3-5 days but there was not other way he could help me. After speaking to another representative and spending over an hour dealing with the problem we were able to stay in our hotel. We were offered no upgrade or compensation for their mistake.

I attempted to book a rental car in Rapid City South Dakota. After I enter the payment information, hot wire system set goat and fail to complete the transaction. When I went back to the reservation screen. All of my previous information remained in the queue except (to my horrified and expensive chagrin) that hotwire system defaulted the Reto location to Indianapolis my hometown.Within minutes of receiving the confirmation, I tried every means possible to contact hotwire (phone, email, and app messaging).I was never able to reach a person and to date not a single response has been sent to my to inquiries and request for help route hotwires app, except for choirs automated message saying that someone would respond to me properly. Using their phone system I was directed to contact hertz rental car for any changes cancellation or concerns. Their system also would only allow automated, Electronic communications unless I want to pay an additional service charge to reach a human being. Are use hertz system within an hour of making three unintended reservation and receive electronic acknowledgment of cancellation of my reservation. Hertz has never charged hotwire yeah it’s feels that it is within its right to charge me 100% of the “contracted amount with a charge dated July 4, for a reservation made and canceled within an hour of an error triggered by Hotwire’s that Hertz, the ultimate service provider acknowledged as canceled within minutes. There’s no way I believe Hertz has billed or that Hotwire has paid I will ever pay Hertz a nickel for that “phantom“ reservation made on June 21. It was my hope but since I had received no communication from hotwire and an app my cancellation had been acknowledged by hurts, that I would not be charged. Milly my credit card two weeks later and only sending a reminder of my reservation the day before it’s used in August is unjust and deprive me of any opportunity to try to mitigate my loss. Hotwire's customer service is almost nonexistent and it’s business practices are unconscionable. Go to years I bought thousands of dollars worth of services using Hotwire. No more. I’m done with a company that won’t even communicate back through the single message portal it allows its customers.

This used to be a great way to find a great rate. Selection and service has continued to decline. I booked (and paid for) a hotel today and waited thirty minutes to get an answer as to why the hotel has no record of the reservation. They left me stranded and tired. Not the way to start a vacation.

When I arrived, I realized that it was a double-charged hotel. I want to cancel, but I was told that my money cannot be refunded. Scam software, deceive customers with the hotel. I won't use it again

Tried to book a hotel on app with Apple Pay and was charged over $1,100 on my debit card, but app said there was a problem. Called Hotwire customer service and was told that reservation never went through and that $1,100 charge would come off in about 7 days, but I could try again and be charged another $1,100. Very cavalier about taking someone’s money. Never again.

I am flexible most times in my travels so I appreciate the options that Hotwire offers. I’ve never had an experience that didn’t match what they sold to me. Wondering which hotel or car rental agency is part of the price savings but I’ve always been satisfied with what I received. They mess up all the time and they don’t make up for it.. they are not even willing to work anything out or help at all. 1)Made one reservation for a hotel back in February 2021! That same night went to the hotel and turns out they overbooked be place so I had no hotel at all and it was 10 pm and I had no place to stay… also all hotels were packed … not willing to get me another hotel, didn’t even notify me about them overbooking and not even a refund or anything because they just take your money and apologize and do literally NOTHING… 4 30 minute calls 4 different representatives and at the end of the day nothing but the amazing hotel was able to help. 2) Made another reservation last night (08/13/2021)! I’m my time zone it was 11:44 pm and I was making the reservation for the next day, had issues with the app at the end was able to make the reservation… didn’t check until the morning and called the hotel just to check and out the app messed up my date… call them many times, one said she tried to process a return through the hotel and it didn’t work( which wasn’t true cause I called the hotel and there was one lady for the whole shift), the next customer representative said that if the hotel was willing to work out the refund the they could work it out but I had to call the hotel cause they weren’t allowed and I did that and the hotel agreed, called a third time and the lady told me that there was nothing they could do after the previous told me they could… the hotel told me they are just not willing to change anything and that it happens all the time cause they don’t care about the customer or do any customer service. Just to clear things out I called the hotel and they told me they cancel reservations by midnight so they allowed the website to get a reservation at 11:44 pm that was gonna expire in the next 15 minutes?????? When I constantly tried to change it and I did and it still got the wrong date … but they are not willing to do literally anything…… They just take your money and hope you won’t have any issues and even if it’s on their end they won’t do anything about it.

Be careful when using any of their hot rate car rental deals and purchasing the Allianz insurance offered trough their app or website. We rented a car trough Hotwire and purchased the Allianz insurance trough the app. The Allianz insurance clearly states that you do not need any additional insurance. The person at the counter would not give us the car unless we paid an additional $30 per day for their insurance. We did not take the car. I have spend one hour on the Hotwire online chat and another hour on the phone and they just refuse to do anything , give the prepaid amount as credit or give a refund.

Despite the great repute, this app is set to rip you off at the first moment. I had an issue when I reached out to them they told me to fix it and when I accepted their offer they ran away and blamed me. Now it's been days and whenever I talked to them they offer no solution: agents supervisors just repeat the same cliche of stealing your money “legally”.

Have used Hotwire for probably 20 years and always had amazing results. But you got to be cool with not knowing exactly the hotel you’re getting. They give you a range and the ratings and it’s never let me down. If you’re the type that needs to know the exact hotel-this is probably not the app for you. If I’m traveling somewhere new and I don’t really know the hotels anyway I’m not sure what difference it makes anyway. when you book a room, it’s done and you can’t change your mind afterwards - or else everybody would be doing that, and that it’s not the way this app works. However, when I have had a problem I’ve always tried to work with me and called the hotel on my behalf to make changes.

I won’t use Hotwire again. I used to go to Hotwire for all my hotel and car reservations but over the past 2 years I have been disappointed every time I used it. The last time I used Hotwire was to book a hotel reservation in Brazil. When I arrived at the hotel, they had no record of my reservation. The Hotwire representative was useless when I called. The hotel that I should have had a reservation with through Hotwire was able to get me a reservation at a partner hotel nearby. Hotwire never acknowledged their error, nor did they try to fix it. With other recent reservations, there have been hidden fees, taxes, resort fees, etc that Hotwire does not tell you about but that you are responsible for at the hotel or car rental agency. Don’t use Hotwire.

Booked my stay at TownePlace Suites by Marriot Ft Myers Estero through a Hot Rate so, I really didn’t know what I was going to get but from the minute we stopped by the Front Desk it was nice experience. Staff was friendly and warm, allowing us to do a earlier Check In, offered suggestions on places of interest etc. The common areas are nicely decorated and clean. Although I didn’t get their best room, it was perfectly sized. The kitchenette has a full size fridge, small range, microwave, plates, utensils even pots. Room was super clean, aside of the king size bed there’s a couch and small desk and like that wasn’t enough they offer other small appliances upon request. Hot breakfast was included, eggs, bacon, hash browns were served by staff and waffle bar for self service. To summarize it was PERFECT, will definitely recommend and return to this hotel

Wow where to start, first I booked a Hot wire deal for a hotel in Shamrock, Tx. I showed up at the hotel by the address found in my confirmation however they could not find my reservation. Come to find out somehow they have this account mixed up with another hotel in Dallas, TX. When I called Hotwire, I was hung up on 3 times due to them “not getting ahold of the hotel to verify reservation” I advised them the phone # they have associated with this hotel is not correct. I provided the correct phone number to them by a simple google search and 1 rep hung up on me when she told me she called them and no one answered. I placed her on hold and called the hotel and they answered immediately. When I told her this she hung up on me. The 2nd time I spoke with a rep she told me the number that I provided to her for the hotel was a cell #. I advised her it isn’t and did a 3 way call with the hotel. They confirmed they did not have a reservation for me and that I am not the first person who this has happened to with them through hotwire. The rep hung up on us during our conversation! The 3rd rep, I don’t even know what happened, I thought she was actually gonna do something but she hung up when I was on hold and it went to some voicemail message. I have NEVER had problems with hotwire before, I use them frequently however I will NEVER use them again after this! I have spent at least 2 hours on the phone with them and I still have not gotten a refund!!!!

Hotwire is by far the worse booking site I could have possibly used. There customer service agents are not helpful, I requested to be escalated to a supervisor and then they ignored my request. My issues were bit resolved and I was unable to receive a refund that even the rental company who I used said they were happy to issue. On my family’s vacation to Florida my wallet was left on the plane. I had my id but sadly my license and such were in the wallet. Upon getting to the car rental place they would not allow me to retrieve the car without the license but they would refund it. Hot wires policy said I needed an id and since I didn’t have it there was nothing they could do to help me. So now I have no car and won’t be refunded. The customer service rep then went on to say I won’t transfer you to a manager because they will just tell me the same and stopped responding. If the company the rental was from would honor a refund I don’t see why Hotwire shouldn’t. Furthermore this would have been easier to accept if the person I spoke with wasn’t so rude and condescending. This was not an ordinary circumstance and if this is their policy I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone. I plan on making complaints on the site until someone gives me a more accurate response. And for the record the booking policy says id not drivers license if this wants to become a technicality thing. BBB will hear this.

So I’ve never had problems with other sites booking a hotel and didn’t expect to have such a headache of a time with these scum. I have had two bad incidents now within two days. First I pick the hotel and the bed and go to book and pay I click pay and it says oops the deal is gone select another room and book now. All the while my card was charged the full amount for the room that was never booked. Now when I contacted them they said they didn’t charge my car that it is a hold placed but not by them so says the rep I’m talking to they can only release the funds and then I have to wait 5-7 days for my money to be put back into my account. So I figured alright I’ll wait. Then couple days later going to book another room what do you know same thing happens again charged my card full price and didn’t book the room at all. Now I’m out a couple hundred dollars until this “release” goes through and I get my money credited back to my account. DO NOT ISE HOTWIRE AT ALL FOR ANY REASON THEY WILL SCREW YOU OVER AND NOT TAKE ACCOUNTABILITY ON THEIR END AND BLAME YOUR BANK AND THAT YOU NEED TO CONTACT THEM INSTEAD OF HOTWIRE IM FILING A COMPLAINT WITH BBB AND MY BANK IS OPENING A FRAUD CLAIM AGAINST THEM FOR THEM SAYING THEY NEVER CHARGED MY CARD YET IT STATES CLEARLY IN MY STATEMENT HOTWIRE SO OF THEY DIDNT AUTHORIZE THE CHARGE THEN ITS FRAUD AND NEED TO BE INVESTIGATED SO IT WILL BE!!!

I booked a hotel through the Hotwire app for the first time a few weeks ago, since a friend recommended Hotwire. It’s a total disappointment when I found that I can get the same hotel / same room at a CHEAPER rate with FREE cancellation. I called Customer Service to ask about their Low Price Guarantee and was told to use the Chat or Message function. I had to spend hours “chatting” with several agents (Celyn, Vince, Jemar, Omar, Mary, Chella) on May 11, chatted with one agent (Bree) on May 10. Everyone told me that my chat history will not disappear and they will get back in 5-10 minutes, which did not occur! When I finally spoke with someone who knew how to search or click on the link I sent, and look at how the other websites are offering lower/better rates, she agreed to issue a refund back to the original form of payment. After checking my bank statements several times, I decided to reach back out to see if they’ve processed my refund. Of course, I was told that because I did not respond during the chat session, they can’t do anything. The agent did NOT even ask me any questions. She was merely stating I’ll get a refund back on the same form of payment. Be careful when using Hotwire because you will NOT get customer service that will provide support.

I originally loved Hotwire. It’s what I’ve used for years to book hotels and rental cars. HOWEVER, their policies are complete garbage if you get stuck in a bind. Especially during Covid-19 and all the special restrictions for each state. I live in New York and our governor doesn’t care about the 2 week quarantine mandate that was lifted by the CDC. So me thinking it was now ok to travel (without having that mandatory quarantine) I booked a trip to Utah with almost 600 dollars worth of hotel nights and car rental days. Once I found out that I couldn’t travel there because of our jobs not wanting us to have to quarantine for two weeks, I immediately got ahold of Hotwire assuming they would respond as a good company like Delta would and show compassion on the matter and refund me for the misunderstanding. Long story short, I talked to four different people with one of them being a supervisor and they all said the same thing. Their policy is this and they will not stray from it no matter what. They wouldn’t even give me credit through Hotwire for the 600 dollars I just lost because of something out of my control. DO NOT USE HOTWIRE. THEY WILL ROB YOU THE FIRST CHANCE THEY GET. There is no compassion, there is no forgiveness. This company is scum and it needs to have light shed on it.

So last week I booked a San Diego trip, I tried Hotwire for the first time! I booked a hotel called 4 points San Diego, we drove from LA through traffic with the adress given by hot wire and arrived to a abandon hotel, we get stoped by a security guard that tells us the place has been shut down because of the pandemic, we tell him how that couldn’t be since I just booked through hot wire, he said a lot of third parties haven’t updated! So I had no choice but to book something within 5 min, because I had 2 children in the back, I end up calling to try and get my money back and a Jose told me sure we’ll give you your money back and 5 dollars hot cash, I said ok I’ll probably won’t use them (something I shouldn’t have said) because he came back on the line and said sorry I investigated more and we can’t give you your money back, the hotel is still there you just went to the wrong addressed and they took it as a no show, I told him how can that be if I went to the address given by them, and he said they’re nothing I can do, it’s my first and last time booking with them, it’s not about the money I lost but it’s the fear of them pulling something like this again!

Booked a hot deal and my card was charged. I was then brought to a screen that said an error occurred and that deal was no longer available. So I had a full trip charged to my card and Hotwire customer care refused to do anything except lay the blame on my credit card company and me. Took 4 days for the credit to be available on my card again. Their customer care department is a third party company out of Malaysia that refuses to give you information on how to contact Hotwire corporate offices after they ultimately refuse to help you. Stay away from Hotwire. They’ll cause your money to be caught in limbo while you watch hotel prices get higher by the day waiting for it to be freed back to available credit. I booked my room directly through Hampton Inn, the hotel Hotwire suggested I’d get with the hot deal and they were more sympathetic to my problem than Hotwire was and provided the same rate. Do yourself a favor and book directly through the hotel. Many times they’ll honor prices found on apps like Hotwire. Avoid Hotwire, Expedia and Priceline. They’re all the same company who doesn’t care about you. Just a middleman trying to carve a slice of something they don’t deserve.

Worst app ever. For most hotels it only shows 1 picture, even when there are dozens on the Hotwire Website. I tried to book a trip on the app anyway, but it kept saying my credit card wasn’t recognized. So I called my credit card company and they said They authorized the transaction, but Hotwire canceled it. So I called Hotwire and they said it’s because I was trying to book a deal that wasn’t available. After hearing this, I looked again, and the deal still showed up on the app. I also had $15 of “HotDollars” credit, which an email said I could use to book, but couldn’t use it on the app. This app is so much worse than the website. As an aside, the Hotdeals, you know, the deal where it’s cheaper because you don’t know which hotel it is? Yeah, that’s terrible because they tack on higher fees. I booked a Hotdeal that was $10 per day cheaper than if I knew which hotel I was booking. Great deal! Except after I checked out, the Hotdeal wound up being about a dollar per day more than the normal booking after taxes and fees were added. TLDR: Hotwire has good deals, just stay away from the app or the Hotdeals.

I booked a hotel through hotwire and when I arrived at the hotel I was told they would not honor my reservation. Because they were overbooked. I called the hot wire customer support number and waited 20 minutes until someone answered. I was on the phone with a customer service rep for another 20 minutes when we got disconnected and no one called me back. I had to call back again and it took another 20 minutes to get a new customer service rep, he attempted to get another reservation and could not find one so he told me he would refund my account and add a complementary credit. He put me on hold but before he did I asked him if he would call me back if we got disconnected he assured me he would, we got disconnected and he never called back. Finally I started a chat with a customer service rep which took almost an hour. The final result of the chat was that he would refund my account and send me a confirmation email. I never got a refund and never got a confirmation email. This is absolutely the worst customer service I’ve ever received. I finally had to dispute the charge on my credit card.

Hotwire car rental is such a scam!!! I booked car online on September 30th and I got HOT RATE for it. When I went to rent a car agency ( Ace ) they told me that there is mile limitation for my reservation ( 150 miles a day ) and that I should cancel reservation because if I go further that 450 miles in 3 days I will pay 25 cents per extra mile. These conditions WERE NOT in terms and conditions when I accepted reservation. I called hot wire after agent in ACE told me to call them and cancel. Hot wire did not wanted to cancel my reservation because they told me it was a blind reservation and it is not refundable?! I told them that even if it is blind reservation they SHOULD put all the conditions when you book it, otherwise I got stuck with the car I cannot use. They said they will put those information in the future 😡 I told them I don't care about the future, I want my money back now because it's crazy to scam people like that and do not put all the conditions when you book a car. I ended up being charged for a car I did not use. PEOPLE SAVE YOUR MONEY, do not use HOTWIRE! Their customer service is rude and their supervisors not doing their job.

Agents through chat and on the phone confirmed that the details of the reservation were the same and scheduled minutes apart, but there was nothing they could do and I would have to choose which reservation to fulfill and waste the second. A supervisor also confirmed that while it was impossible for me to pick up two rental cars, at the same location, on the same date- that her agents were correct in telling me that Hotwire would not refund either one of the $170 charges. Turns out saving 50% isn’t that great of a deal when you have to buy the same thing twice.👎

Our company is removing Hotwire as an option for future travel needs. Due to human error (or perhaps a manipulation by the app) the incorrect date was selected on a reservation. I did make the mistake of confirming that purchase without rechecking the date. Once the error was determined we contacted Hotwire 24+ hours before reservation and they would not cancel and credit. After reaching a supervisor on phone I brought up the fact confirmation email does specify it is prepaid and can’t be cancelled. She wanted to resend confirmation email so I would have the right polices. She sent the email and well it was the exact same. So now I question if I made a human error in date selection or if app moved date. See the hotel was actually sold out for the dates I believe selected and the Hotwire reservation was a night following when the hotel had availability. In any case, Hotwire was unwilling to offer a credit or refund and chooses to loose out on future business. Poorly run and a shame human error is being taken advantage of. Fool me once but not twice!!!

I have no idea how this is a 4 star hotel. Convenient to trolley stop and location feels fairly safe. Otherwise staff is rude, elevator smelled strongly of weed and got stuck with my son and husband in it, if you self park in the garage there is no access to hotel. You have to walk up on foot from the underground parking and enter the hotel through the front doors. It’s a side business run by the valet guys - super shady. Our first room REEKED of cigarettes and we immediately noticed it had not been cleaned. That was confirmed when we opened the toilet and there was urine, ash and a partially smoked cigarette in it. Asked front desk for a new room and they were rude and unapologetic. Second room was cleaner, but still not what I would expect from a 4 star. Maybe a motel 6 level of quality. We booked 2 queens but ended up with 2 doubles (if they were even double size. So very small that the sheets just hung off of them). For the price, I’d definitely skip this one and choose a different hotel.

I’ve used Hotwire twice now, both to book hotels in Charlotte, NC. First one was a 4-Star Hotel in Uptown Charlotte for about $111/night which was about $140 cheaper than any other hotel in the city. Next time I used it we got a 4-Star Hotel in the heart of the city for about $104/night - even better than the first time! Although you may not know exactly where you’re staying at the time of booking, it may be worth while if you are planning on being in a big city or somewhere loaded with hotels because this website will give you the best rate because of that no show until book policy. Just read the details like free WiFi, parking, choose your bed or hotel chooses for you, etc. before booking and you shouldn’t have a problem!!

I used Hotwire to book my car rental for a trip 2 months from now. I had to make a change to the dates so went to the hotwire site, no change button to be found. Called customer service and asked to simply change my itinerary dates and was told not possible and reservation non-refundable. Just like that, a click of the button and they are stealing $300 from me. Whatever contracts they have in place with car rental companies, a customer should be able to make a date change, especially for a trip 2 months down the road. We are not talking about airline seats last minute at risk of going unfilled. This is a silly car rental reservation. At minimum Hotwire, you need a flashing pop-up warning with flames at checkout that says something like, “BEWARE Hotwire sucker, if you dare try to make a date change after you click this, just know it won’t happen because we’ve already charged your credit card and pocketed your money!” Next step, contact my state attorney general and file a complaint.

PLEASE DON’T USE THIS APP! Just go ahead and stick to booking or Airbnb! I had a reservation for Travelodge in Orlando. When I got to the hotel after a long trip, I was informed the system in the hotel wasn’t working and they could not check me in neither cancel my reservation and refund me so I could go to a different hotel. They left me waiting at the lobby for 2 hours until they could finally get me a room at another hotel. you would think problem solved, right? Wrong! The new hotel was not only more expensive than the one I had already booked, but it was also not as nice. I had booked a room with a king bed and they could only offer me a room with two twin beds. It was a downgrade. In addition, they wouldn’t refund me for relocation costs (such as Uber to the new hotel) nor pay for the difference in price. I wasn’t offered any kind of compensation either! Very poor customer service! I’m very disappointed with the Hotwire app and will never use it again.

Hotwire sometimes has a good deal, but I wonder if saving $15 now and then is really worth dealing with their unpleasant customer service. They booked me into a hotel that ended up being full, and was talked by their customer service into accepting the refund with Hot Dollars when they told me I would not get my refund for 9 days otherwise. They did not bother to tell me that you can only use Hot Dollars on their website where the prices are like $4 more so I had to call them back to figure out to login on their website. They did absolutely nothing beyond wasting my time putting me on hold to confirm over the phone with my original hotel that they overbooked, reading me terms and conditions for another 10 minutes and making me pay $4 extra on a different hotel to make me happier after they made my evening such a hassle. My recommendation is to avoid their crummy Hot Dollars for refunds. Live and learn.

Hello, I will say that I have booked multiple rooms with great views of the city. Being able to use the Hotwire app to see where I get options for hotels allows me to accurately determine where I would like to be located within the city I select. Do not hesitate, Hotwire gives you top of the line rooms for a very affordable price. Everywhere I’ve stayed has been absolutely beautiful, I have plenty of places for food, Drinks and restaurants. Multiple time problems with Hotwire. Their customer service is basically to tell you there’s nothing they can do. I’ve paid for hotels that were fully inhabited aka no vacancy and got no refund and had to pay again. I’ve booked a room and they put me in an unfinished room like a closet - no refund or discount. I’ve been kicked out of a hotel bc it was for out of state travelers and I live in the state I guess too local for them - no compensation and today I didn’t fully send a payment with apple pay and it didnt authorize my card. Then I went back on the browser and got a new room, and Hotwire charged me twice for the same date. Again I called and nothing. Just sorry no refund. Why would I book two hotels on the same night? I guess I forget all these horrible times getting stiffed by Hotwire bc I continue to book thru them. I guess I deserve what I get for being stupid.

I can’t tell you how many times plans have quickly changed when I’m at the airport or in a different city or need to head somewhere really quick, and I log onto Hotwire app and my problem solved in less than five minutes. This thing really is amazing, and it’s way cheaper than booking directly through the hotel . I’ve also had to cancel my reservations several times before, and hotwire was gracious enough to call the hotels and get the reservation canceled even though their policy says otherwise. I can’t tell you how happy I am for this given our plans change last minute so frequently, especially given Covid. I love hotwire.

I'm a long time user of Hotwire and thought to have learned the ins and outs of the app through experience but when I booked a rentacar with Ace @ LAX I was greatly disappointed to discover not only is Hotwire deceptive but also dishonest. They are swindlers! A few days before pickup they issue a notice on where to pick up your car. It stated there’s a shuttle from the airport to Ace but sure enough I soon discovered there is no shuttle bus to Ace whatsoever! In fact, ACE's scam is to use other car rental shuttles (thrifty is closest). I was walking around the airport jet lagged after a 10 hour flight like a zombie with my family in tow trying to get to my car. It’s absurd! I attempted to get a taxi but they told me $30 min for a 5 min. ride. Finally I figured out how to get there by thrifty's shuttle. What’s more, I wrote a long letter to Hotwire explaining my predicament and got no response. They never reply to these reviews here because they are swindlers and liars. I pray nobody goes through rentacar hell like I did.

Last year I used Hotwire and I got booked at a Hotel that I was previously booked at through Hotwire in another year and which I felt very unsafe. When I called to see if I could switch hotels and explained to them that the previous year I had an incident happened to me where I was assaulted at that hotel, they refused to change me into another hotel and told me that all bookings were final. It took me two hours to finally get them to at least change my Hotel as they would not give me a refund. I gave them another chance and I am really angry that I did. This year, I wanted to book a hotel and after entering in a different credit card information for whatever reason it booked a different listed hotel that I did not want to stay at. When I called to rectify The situation they would not do anything about it. I never write reviews and I really hope that no one ever uses this service ever they’re awful.

I booked a hotel for the past weekend in a 4 star hotel. I get there and there was a “pipe” issue so they said don’t worry we will place you in another hotel. Whatever as long as I get a bed for the night. The following night I go back and ask if I can get a room in the hotel I paid for, they said no. They send me back on my way to a cheaper hotel and I have no choice some I’m obviously using a hotel because I do not live in the area. Now, the following day I send Hotwire support a message and they say that they can not do anything to help me because I accepted the redirect and am contacting them after the booking was used? How am I supposed to know that I needed to contact Hotwire the minute my room was not available. I assumed the hotel would right their issues and waited, now it turns out they were not able to and it’s my fault? Well it is according to Hotwire. Beware when booking through Hotwire.

I use Hotwire several times a week. Always have values on quality establishments. A few days ago, in my car with afternoon sun and 100 degrees, I mistakenly ordered a room for the wrong night. Once I figured how to text with them, as other methods were having issues, they listen to my mistake. Having studied contract law, and read the terms, Hotwire did not have any responsibility to credit my account. They did not have to, but they did refund my mistake and got me an another room at the same hotel. That is what good service is.

I can’t voice my disappointment enough in this hotel. I came to Chicago to shop and go to a play. I input ‘downtown’ when making the reservation and even called the hotel, when I saw it was an option, to ask if it was walking distance to the main shopping areas. I was there three nights and paid more for urber rides than the hotel! I would have done so much more in Chicago if it wasn’t an additional $20+ to get to the city. Hotel itself was okay. Tiny and old. Plus when you get there an additional $20 per night, in the small print when you book, for extra amenities that you will never use. Spa down the road, discount at the bar(that was never open late enough to use). Live and learn. Unless you are planning on staying in the Gold Coast area book someplace else. The extra for the room is worth it. Ended up costing me over $100+ more than planned.

This app and the company behind it are horrible and you can save yourself a lot of pain by avoiding them both. I was trying to book a hotel for the following week and noticed that the app kept changing my dates to the current day every time I refreshed the search. Finally booked one and thought I was good to go. When I arrive at the hotel they have no idea who I am and it turns out the app booked the hotel for the same night I booked it. Then the hotel says someone checked in and used the reservation. I called Hotwire and they said since it’s a “HotRate” deal there are absolutely no refunds or changes, which apparently includes their system screwing up. So now I payed for someone else’s hotel room last week and had to get a last minute room at full price when I arrived totaling over $700 for what ended up being a 7 hour stay in the hotel. I will never use anything with the Hotwire name again

I never had problems with booking before this time. I booked an hotel of whom front desk refused to give me the room and was rude. I turned it to Hotwire to get reimbursed and kept on the phone for more than 40 minutes. Assistant said “you know we book the cheapest prices...” I told him “it doesn’t matter since the service is rejected”, he tried to call the front desk themselves which they said it is rude as well. Asked me again of what has happened: I told him the details again but wondered “are you trying to blame me cause I said this already why are you asking again” he said “no I am actually on your side but trying to find the reason to tell them they should reimburse me”. He apologized he wouldn’t be able to reimburse me in this case as the hotel refuses. By the way the hotel is whom have told me reimbursement is not theirs it is Hotwire’s.

I have booked hotel in CA from Hotwire. when I reached Hotel at 1 AM after flight delays and all, the hotel ppl informed me that Hotwire didn’t send at information or booking info with my name. Contacted Hotwire customer care and received no response from them. Booked same room for double the price at 2AM. The next day contacted Hotwire after 24 hours they cancelled my hotel trip and refunded my original amount not the difference which I paid. Customer service was so bad said you have paid that with your card so Hotwire is not going to refund that money. I lost money because of this faulty application or bad service. Don’t use Hotwire and seems like I’m not the first person, lot of people faced similar issues. DON’T USE HOTWIRE JUST FOR SAVING 30-50 use direct site or any other application but not Hotwire.
Hotwire bait and switch app is misleading

Hotwire uses bait and switch when you book with them. They said I was guaranteed to receive my car rental from Enterprise Alamo National Hertz Dollar Budget. When I went to book car rental they gave me Advantage. I called them to mention that advantage was not advertise in my five guaranteed car rentals companies. They did a bait and switch on me and they refused to switch me to one of the other car rental companies. In which they advised I was guaranteed in their online listing. I reviewed advantage and their customer reviews had so many negative complaints with this car rental company. I didn’t feel safe using them for my family trip. Hotwire refuses to issue me a refund or switch me the the rental company that they guaranteed to me. I will never use Hotwire ever again. Poor customer service and not a trusting company. Their bait and switch was very this honest. Buyers beware

Warning false advertising - just as another reviewer experienced I was also charged for a room but then receive an error. Which means the room and that deal “got away” which is bs. I called and they stated the price went up reason why it did not book but yet charged my card. So I asked can you they use that credit to pay the difference to book another room they said no. So I let it be and waited til the next today to see if my credit card got refunded back. Nothing yet..... so I saw the same deal again (my mistake) and I tried to book it and the same error I received. I got charged again, so now I have two charges pending. I understand that it’s not fully charged just a hold but on my end it shows that it’s charged, now I have to wait 3-5 days. So now I can’t book anything for my birthday weekend. So be aware DONT USE HOTWIRE - PURE FALSE ADVERTISING!!!!

Please be aware that Hotwire uses second rate chains for the hot rate . Yes the price is low but you get what you pay for! In this case aggravation . Do not book with easi rent, ace, sixt or the like!!!! They keep you in a building for over an hour with a fan in 80 degree weather! Then they haggle you for up charges ! First they will tell you a scare tactic to buy additional coverage for 11 dollars a day! If you do not have a PAPER copy of your personal full auto coverage they will not accept that you have adequate insurance and tell you they will not rent you a car! Second they badger you to buy a sun pass for tolls and gas from them. Please keep toll receipts in case u get a bill from them. To save a few bucks it not worth it. Go to a name brand car company !!

I booked a hotel and one of my main filters was a hotel with a pool. I chose the hotel but upon arrival noticed construction going on at the hotel near the pool. I then ask the receptionist and she says it will be opened the next day, FOR SURE. The next day, the new girl now working the front desk, says the pool will be opened after 5. Again I let it go because our reservations were for a few days and we would have time to hang out by the pool once it opened. I return to the hotel later that same day with my two children and husband to see posted signs saying the pool will not be opened til renovations are completed. I was very disappointed with Hotwire for not letting me know this hotels pool would be out of service and then the hotel, Comfort suites Odessa, for giving me the run around. Very inconvenient and upsetting. I work hard for my money and want what I pay for.

Hotel housekeeping was not consistent in cleaning the room and many days by 5 pm had to call down before the came to clean. Days that didn’t clean dishes leave coffee pods left sand in the shower etc. secondly we lost power 3 times and twice in one day and was unable to work and one night had to move to a different room. The second time we waited over one hour for the main fence guy from another property of there’s to come an couldn’t even find the power box we had to go switch it back on. After the third time this happened we asked them to in some way for spoiled food in fridge plus all the other inconveniences plus one day not be able to work and losing work I asked for some sort of compensation and for 45 minutes attempted to reach something and hotel refuse to do anything for all the issues that we clearly there responsibility

One star only because it’s not possible to give no stars and write a review. I cannot begin to tell you the level of aggravation I have when dealing with this specific company. Three times in a row my last name has been changed on my reservations from my actual last name to my husband‘s last name I have changed it in the app I have changed it in any of my pay accounts and still it changes it to my husband‘s last name and because of course it’s one of those special promotions where it’s 20% off or whatever, IM NOW OUT $60 and don’t have anywhere FOR MY CHILDREN to sleep tonight! Guess we get to camp out in the van BECAUSE SOMEONE CAN NOT FIX THE PROBLEM WITH THE AP! Would I recommend the app OR THE COMPANY? NO!!! You couldn’t PAY ME enough to say this was a wonderful experience. It’s not a user error, I’m not the only one.

I had enjoyed using hotwire in the past. However, my last experience has made me change my view on hotwire service. I got a rental car through hotwire. On the day of my travel, the rental car company had no cars available. I was told that the wait could be 2-3 hours as 6 parties ahead of me were waiting for cars. I cant sit around at airport for 2-3 hours. So I got another rental car from a different company. I contacted Hotwire right after I left the airport. I was told that they will take care of it. After I came back from my business trip, I contacted them again regarding the credit, I was told that they are working on it. 2 weeks later, no one called me or followed up on this. No credit was issued. Now I have to dispute through my credit card company. Very disappointed with their service.

Twice. Over a 2 day period while visiting hotels in Idaho traveling around National Parks I booked through Hotwire. When I arrived at the hotels the staff double charged me (I thought they took my card for incidentals) since the card they had from Hotwire didn’t work. Luckily I check my card statement and saw what was happening. I’m glad though, because come to find out BOTH hotels charged me significantly less (10%+ savings) than the charges from Hotwire. And when I questioned Hotwire about it they said “it’s because of the taxes and fees” - which is a complete lie, these hotels were not going to charge me more for taxes and fees after their charge cleared my card. I wonder how much money I’ve lost over the years thinking Hotwire was cheaper, when clearly it’s not.

Long time user of Hotwire for years...to the tune of tens of thousands of $$...no joke. Business, pleasure, family trips, you name it. Have touted this company and its simplicity with friends and family forever as I believed in its value. No more. Just spent 59 min on hold with them and was hung up on...after following email instructions. Unfortunately, this is a recurring theme. I had to contact them back in 2013 re: plane changes and it took 2 days to talk to someone. It was eventually fixed but we still laugh at the amount of time (hours) it took. Absolutely NOT worth the hassle. Fool me once... Word to the wise...90% of the time, you save money. The remaining 10% of the time when you have unexpected changes/life pop up...this is NOT the company to deal with. Will not use again

Hotwire will never help you when a situation arises that’s out of your control or when they are at fault. For example, I reserved a hotel that Hotwire stated they had an airport shuttle. I called for the shuttle but the hotel said they don’t service the airport I was at. I called Hotwire and they would not transfer the to another hotel near the airport I was at even though the hotel accessed the cancellation/change. Another time, I got a hotel that was to be a 2.5 star rating. I showed up and this hotel had massage parlors, and other sketchy businesses in the rooms of the hotel. I took pictures and sent them to Hotwire. They would not cancel or change the reservation even though this star rating was not accurate. Hotwire customer service is by far the worst experience I’ve ever encountered.

I tried making a last minute reservation using this app like I have in the last only rise time it was for a family emergency. I tried multiple times and got no confirmation number only a error message stating my billing address on my credit card (same one I’ve used on this app every time before) was different. My address has not changed yet I have multiple transactions from Hotwire on my credit card from today’s attempt at making a reservation. If you suspect someone’s billing address is entered as an error then why do you push the transaction through anyways?! My card is locked now until these pending charges fall off and I’ll be sleeping in my car tonight. Thank you for not helping me out in my time of need!

What a joke. I’ve booked dozens of trips on Hotwire, ever had an issue ... until yesterday. I booked a room for my daughter and I on the beach for a few days in the future. A few hours later I get an email saying the hotel refuses to honor the deal. So I call Hotwire and after 20 mins on hold someone comes on the line. I tell them what happened and they put me on hold to find a solution. After another 20 mins on hold I get hung up on. Then, the next morning I spend almost 2 hours trying to communicate on this worthless app’s chat feature with a worker who likely WAY over worked. Nearly two hours and no solution, just a hand full of responses, 20 mins apart, none of which provided any solutions. I deleted the app and will not be using Hotwire again.

I highly recommend hotwire !! I'm in Denver, CO now. I traveled from Chicago 14 hours, I had reservations at the hotel. I arrived at 11:30 PM, at the hotel and they told me that there was some issue in the room and there are no available room for me. I called the hotwire at 11:40 PM. customer service found a room for me in the same area and they paid 180 USD for 4 stars hotel. I received a confirmation email and the address of the new hotel. I paid only $ 90 and hotwire paid $ 180 and found me a room at 11:40 PM in 4 star hotel. I am very pleased, I recommend Hotwire.

After booking a car through Hotwire I was assigned Nu Car Rentals in Phoenix. We took the shuttle to the car rental hub and ended up at the info counter since we couldn’t find the rental company (apparently you need to take a second shuttle). I was then informed that Nu Car Rentals was closed! After multiple calls and more than an hour with customer service over the phone they offered no solution to provide a rental. The best they could do was give me prices for a one day rental so I could come back the following day. Maybe understandable if we were significantly delayed or if it late was late at night but this was at four in the afternoon and the company closed 30 minutes after we were scheduled to pick up the car! We are done with Hotwire!

I booked a night at unnamed 2 star hotel in Anaheim one night. When I arrived, there were 2 squad cars in the parking lot interrogating someone. There were several ladies of questionable circumstance hanging out in the doorways of their rooms. I then looked up reviews of this motel online and found out this place was notorious for drug use, prostitution, etc. Before checking in, I called Hotwire to let them know of the situation. They were not willing to make any adjustments. I wasn’t expecting the Ritz but this place was beyond safe. This was especially sad since it was blocks away from Disneyland. What if a family had booked there? There was no way I was going to stay there and called it a loss. Hotwire was not willing to make any amends. I never used their app again.

I booked a hotel on Hotwire. I arrived at about 10pm only to find out that the hotel was over booked. The hotel said they would tell the third party (Hotwire) that they would approve a refund for the night and comp me a night stay at a nearby motel. Once I spoke to Hotwire, they said that they would apply a credit in my Hotwire account in addition and this credit would be good for a year. Luckily I called Hotwire back to confirm the credits. The new guy customer service rep informed me that the credit in my Hotwire account was what I was getting. After a conversation explaining that I didn’t understand it that way I asked to just credit my card. Let’s think about this, if I don’t use that credit within the years time I just lose the money! That sounds like a scam and will be in touch with the better business burea.

I haven’t used their services in years because of what happened tonight. I get to the hotel and they tell me that my reservation isn’t valid because the room isn’t habitable (busted a/c in a Southern summer). I call support and I’m put on hold so long that I’m able to drive to a completely different hotel, check in, and get settled into my room before they answer. And then I get the run around. (Btw, I was able to write and proofread this review before getting anywhere with support.) Edit: I was informed that I wasn’t turned away from the hotel according to the hotel records. Ok. This app is really well designed. We were able to score a great deal on a hotel in downtown Chicago for a family staycation. Thanks to the advanced filters, we could narrow down to a specific neighborhood and find a hotel with a pool. The kids had a blast and we were able to use some of our savings to splurge on a nice meal at the hotel restaurant. I will definitely continue to use Hotwire and will certainly recommend this app to my friends and family. Thank you Hotwire!
Hotwire has failed

I won’t use Hotwire again. I used to go to Hotwire for all my hotel and car reservations but over the past 2 years I have been disappointed every time I used it. The last time I used Hotwire was to book a hotel reservation in Brazil. When I arrived at the hotel, they had no record of my reservation. The Hotwire representative was useless when I called. The hotel that I should have had a reservation with through Hotwire was able to get me a reservation at a partner hotel nearby. Hotwire never acknowledged their error, nor did they try to fix it. With other recent reservations, there have been hidden fees, taxes, resort fees, etc that Hotwire does not tell you about but that you are responsible for at the hotel or car rental agency. Don’t use Hotwire.

I paid for a hotel that I didn’t even use and I was told I can’t change it because I made the human error of not fixing it when I booked it the night before the day I was going to actually stay. They said they can’t help me because it’s a hotel policy and hotel tells me they can’t change it because it’s a Hotwire policy. I was told by aloft I can change the date and Hotwire told me no at all. They didn’t wanna help me out but just say sorry we took your money have a nice day.....after spending a lot of money with Hotwire already it’s disappointing. I loved Hotwire but now will only use trip advisor or kayak. Trip advisor gave me a first time discount for the inconvenience of Hotwire. Definitely recommended trip advisor
