1. There is camera and recorder forcefully installed in the car by didi, which is said by the driver not allowed to be closed. 2. To change a phone number, you will be requested verification with providing your bank number and national ID. 3. Sometimes you will be overcharged, in obvious unreasonable name.

Horrible customer service
by TiggerDat on 2020/08/05 17:18
I had a driver that didn’t know where he was going and made many wrong turns. How this is possible is beyond imagination since the app has navigation. At one point he started hitting himself and crying. This scared me so much I was afraid for my life! DiDi customer service only said that I didn’t need to worry I would get to my destination in time. A 30 minute trip took 1.5 hours and they didn’t care at all. The next trip in the same city the driver took me out of my way and added fees for tolls that were higher than the actual fees. About half my trips with DiDi involved some problems with the driver cheating me in some way. More than a year later and I have never used their service and have not had any issues with any other substitutes! If you reach out and contact them about a problem they say they will respond, that response is simply a phone call to ask if you filed a complaint and another promise to contact you. It ends up wasting your time and creating a bad image for the company. Be nice to yourself and others, don’t use DiDi
Never active “cancel” before an order is received
by Roman Leal on 2020/08/05 00:03
The “cancel” button is always ineffective when you want to cancel one order after 0.1seconds you send the order. It is 100% available to cancel after a taxi accepts it and then the platform would ask you the reason of canceling... it would take you more than 1min to reorder... so, does that mean a user is never encouraged to cancel before a taxi driver is wondering “are you kidding me”?

Service is great but watchout for drivers
by Lejjin on 2020/06/10 01:58
Love Didi the app. Drivers on the other hand can vary. Once or twice a week they will run up your bill. They don't turn the meter off and drive around, or they circle and tell you your too far away but don't cancel the meter so you pay a cancel fee, or they take longer routes. Fun stuff like that.

Easy to travel
by Sinlan.J on 2020/06/04 22:56
This App is easy for me to use. Because when I travel to China, I don’t know how to find cheap transportation for me to visit some places in China. But DiDi helped me, it is reasonable in price, and I am very relieved about this App. Since I can speak Chinese personally, it is easier to communicate with the driver, and the driver's attitude is also friendly. Thanks to this App for making my trip to China simple and happy.

Stupid customer service!!!
by uncracker on 2020/06/01 15:34
I got off the Didi & forgot to take my phone. Just 3 minutes later, I realized that phone was in car. Since my phone was out of battery, I was not able to call back to reach the driver. Then I used my wife’s phone to call Didi’s customer service hotline, they asked me about the details but they claimed that driver is on another trip already, they can only contact driver after such trip is over due to safety consideration. Also, they refused to tell me either driver’s number or passenger’s number, even no information on when such trip can be finished......whatever they said is ask me to wait for their investigation. Obviously they have no news for me and I won’t have chance to get both my phone and the years data back !!! Their service team asked me to call police, I really want to get my data back because it’s more important than the phone itself. I went to police station, a police officer shouted at me because they think it’s the matter of Didi, they kicked the ball to the other side but I lost my phone & data!!! Few days later, I received phishing messages on my new phone to ask me to login on fake iCloud websites, because they want to unlock the phone.......they tried many times even called me, the phishing message & call are paid service on internet! Didi, you should do something to make improvements by taking REAL action instead of saying so! Goodbye to Didi!
A great step in the right direction
by TTTTea20 on 2020/05/31 05:20
Navigating China without knowing Chinese can be difficult but this app is a huge help. That being said, there is room for improvement. I have 2 main suggestions. First, once a car has been called the destination cannot be changed. This issue only appears on the English DIDI app. The Chinese app allows a change in destination en route, so many drivers will not take you to a different location without an official request through the app. This function should be added to the English app. Second, you might visually know where you want to go on a map, but not know the address (especially if it is in Mandarin). Most map applications allow you to drop a pin on either side of a route and it does the address estimation for you. Not so on English DIDI. you must type in your destination and then sift through suggestions that might be in Chinese or English and try to choose the right one. Dropping a pin to choose a destination would improve the efficiency of calling a car.
Good but
by cant speak Mandarin on 2020/05/30 09:23
The driver is full aware that I’m using the english app, and still tries to call me before pickup, and during the ride, they try to ask me questions. People that know mandarin, and use the English app because they are cool super bilingual, are the problem.

I don’t understand why DiDi drivers call you so much and so often, even DiDi make it a norm for drivers to call and locate the passenger. I hate it! Never had Uber/Lyft driver loving to call so much.

Acceptable functionality, but far from intelligent.
by phooblebooble on 2020/05/16 07:03
Living in China, this app does sometimes help to get a taxi or private car when you’re in a low-flow area. However, my biggest gripe is that the assignment of cars seems fairly unintelligent—it seems to be based strictly on distance. For example, I am often assigned cars going the wrong direction, or on a highway passing by, or on a major street who would need to do a significant turnaround. All of these result in a significant wait time until the assigned car arrives. Within that wait time, I will usually see at least 1-2 cars pass me on the street. All in all, this app covers the basic functions, but don’t expect too much intelligence. There are no major competitors though, so it’s this or nothing.

by Johnny Xie on 2020/04/22 09:55
I find the APP very easy to use in China. Sometimes in remote areas always ask to prepay. Luckily I have wechat pay account. Otherwise in major cities, NO PROBLEM. The translated message function is most helpful. Xie xie Didi.
App does not know how time works
by Dlcaius on 2020/04/18 02:53
The app is simple. Select your departure location from a map, type in the destination and go. The drivers work on a rating system, so most of them are pretty good. About 1/4 of them smoke in their cars, so be prepared for the smell. Here in Dongguan, it is cheaper than a cab and the cars are nicer. During peak times, you can wait over 30 minutes. If a car is not near you, you can pay extra to convince drivers to come from a longer distance away. When the driver selects you, you can see them on the map and the app gives an estimated arrival. This time is always wrong. 4 minutes away really means 7-10. 10 minutes away really means 15-20. If there was a better option, I would use it. But for Dongguan, there are no better options. Update: I had to drop my rating from a 4 to a 2. With Covid-19 mostly contained in China, but running rampant across the rest of the world, drivers are scared to pick up foreigners. They will see you and then drive away. Customer service says the drivers are scared, but does not offer a satisfactory response. Try not to take it personally. The drivers often have a low education and only listen to propaganda news sources.

Easiest way to get around China. Payment methods need improvement
by Genghis_Pawn on 2020/01/20 02:48
As a foreigner who visits China often, the Didi app is invaluable. Even though I speak fluent Mandarin, Didi is still far superior to hailing a cab. Payment methods are weirdly glitchy without explanation. For example, my credit card worked fine for several trips and then one day I couldn’t pay my driver. My Wechat Pay works most of the time and then on some rides just won’t work. Problematic as this will lock you out from getting future rides until the problem is resolved. A more seamless and clean payment experience would vastly improve this service.
Didi driver abandoned us!
by Tregjm on 2020/01/18 12:27
We were at a hotel in Beijing and we ordered a Didi with the app, to take us to the Temple of Heaven, not more than 2 miles away. We paid for it with a visa and it was approved. Notified the driver was 6 minutes out and we went to the lobby to wait. Shortly after, the driver showed up and we got in the car. Driver asked where we were going (I thought he should know since we had to put that in the app) but told him Temple of Heaven, he spoke no English, so asked us to go in hotel to get where we were going from receptionist in Chinese. We did, and he drove off without us! We had to order a taxi. Never do Didi again!

The app asks for your credit card information, but you can pay only upfront and with local apps which require Chinese cell phone or/and a friend with the aploaded app. So, if you are on independent business trip with the US cell phone the DiDi is not applicable. At least in Beijing area. Also, there are several DiDi apps and at least some of them do not work in China

Useful but Drivers Need GPS Training
by C99iou on 2019/12/05 00:22
Didi is useful app for getting around in China. The prices are competitive and the cars are clean. The only complaint I have is that drivers frequently call my phone to ask for directions, even though I'm not in difficult to find locations. I've already given the address and my GPS location is accurate, so it's annoying when drivers don't look at or are unable to read the GPS and address within the app and prefer to waste my time talking to me about it. One star taken off for this. Maybe you'd like it if you need daily free Chinese language lessons about how to give someone directions. But for me, a daily user of Didi for years, I've had enough and wish the drivers were trained to read the GPS.

Cash Payment
by courie85 on 2019/12/03 06:33
When paying cash, the drivers do not always mark the trip as paid. This prevents me from being able to book another trip. I do not speak Mandarin, so I can not communicate to the driver and they get frustrated when I try to explain that they need to make the trip as paid. There needs to be a way to bypass this very frustrating defect between driver and foreigners who do not speak Mandarin and pay in cash.

Not safe for riders
by OceanSolarFlare on 2019/11/28 16:32
DiDi app showed the same error message two nights in a row, “your request could not be completed. Please try again.” This error only showed up after 10 PM. I took a DiDi ride from home in the early evening. And DiDi decided that it would not allow me to get back home at 11 PM. Imagine if you are a foreigner, and you have to walk back home (or hotel) in China at midnight. I contacted DiDi’s customer support. And all I received was, “thank you for your feedback.” I asked for the advisor’s supervisor. And my request was brushed off. I asked for a case number to follow up. And I was told that the DiDi company does not give out case numbers to customers. Hi Apple, why do you allow this unsafe app to be on the App Store?
Not intuitive enough. Too much Chinese text for an EN app.
by Row Hit on 2019/11/27 15:34

Unable to hitch a single ride
by Apalink on 2019/11/25 16:28
Always puts my request in queue. Waited for hours at the airport once and my request just kept getting cut. Later found out that if you’re a regular customer, then you can “cut” in front the line, denying other users of getting rides, which is a really dumb and unfair system because this is not a game and it’s an essential service which people depend on to get from point A to B. The thing with many Chinese apps is they want every app to be a lottery/game, from shopping to cab to getting train tickets, and it’s just very unnecessary.

by derSherpa on 2019/11/08 09:56
The app worked ok for finding taxis in China. Refused to process my credit card for the one pre-payed trip I attempted, so I had to get cash for the rest of my visit. When I try to delete my account now, the app refuses to process my request even though I successfully complete the captcha and get their confirmation text. Find a different way to get taxis and avoid this unless you want a perpetual account with the company.
Rapist and Sexist
by alphatown on 2019/11/06 21:55
Note: This is NOT just a Uber equivalent in China. For foreigners in China, don’t use this app. If you must, call taxi companies, rent a car, use bikeshare services or just take public transportation. Also: Use cash / Alipay. And some background knowledge: To attract more registered drivers with lower cost, the operators at DiDi skipped driver screening altogether. Imagine, the guy driving you back to your hotel from the airport at midnight could be a crime suspect on the run. Could’ve killed 10+ people or robbed even more, and still got the job because DiDi just care about expansion and market share instead of user experience. Didi also shamelessly advertised itself as a dating service provider of some kind, leading the drivers (mostly men) to believe that female passengers could be sexually interested. Girls were killed. These drivers were murderers. They raped her and cut her up, nobody ever took the blame. The only thing the platform did was to decide later that it is too dangerous for women to go out at night: they banned women from taking DiDi rides after 8pm. If you wanna talk about blaming the victims. This is it.

When I arrived at one of the railway station, I found the hotel address easily but when trying to pay only the WeChat and Alipay options came up for prepayment. I don’t understand the point of putting in credit card if it is not a possible option to choose. There was a second option for “cash/scan” but when I choose it, the app loaded forever and no car was assigned. Before choosing the cash option, I could see many DiDi nearby in the app. My speculation is that the drivers didn’t want to deal with cash and so no one took up my ride. Very disappointing because it’s difficult to get a taxi as a foreigner nowadays.
Gets me where I need to go, but some features are missing
by danscoada on 2019/10/27 14:25
It’s overall intuitive and easy to use. However, it is frustrating that there are some features missing in the English version. Specifically being able to make more than one stop. Right now we have to communicate with the driver in broken English and we aren’t always successful.
Never worked

So useful but not fully English

Very happy to have an option to book cabs with my American Business credit card. Needs improvement for tipping methods, doesn’t allow for foreign credit card payment. Also after you select a alternate payment method for a tip it requests information in Chinese, not too useful that way.
Doesn’t work in China if you are a foreigner without wechat pay or alipay

Doesn’t work in China they require you to do advanced pay with wechat or Alipay doesn’t sync with your credit cards like Uber or Lyft. Not useful at all.

If you use an American or any other than a Chinese number the 1st time a didi cancels on you for a no-show they will disable your app for 3 days without notice or anything. First time it happen I deleted my app and tried to reinstall and rebooting my phone. When it happened again I had a Chinese call them and they suspended my account for 5 days for my second no show as the driver will send you a message say “walk to me as I can’t come to you” when you respond with “NO” he will report you saying you never showed up. Pretty stupid for a company to suspend your account when I spend 300 rmb a day driving back and forth to work. They are taking money out of their employees mouth they should impose a small fine of 20RMB to the driver and if you don’t agree then suspend the account! All I have to say VERY POOR BUSINESS PRACTICE! LOL morons!! Funny you can still call a didi and still pay with wechat!

by WORLDTEACHESL on 2019/09/05 06:33
The driver drove me around Shenzhen after pointing, translating to him and customer service where drop off is located. 48 RMB later I was charged. Customer service did nothing. I literally was left stranded 30 minutes from my destination with no recourse. Driver should be reported to police. I reported him. They did nothing. Foreigners are not to be trusted I won’t make this mistake again. LOOK AT YOU MAP Lesson learned. Don’t take DiDi. Take a taxi, subway, bus or Mobike NOT DiDi
Typical Chinese app
by Colinbenjammin on 2019/08/31 10:25
1. Why is the estimated time and fare ALWAYS wrong? And not even a little wrong, like 5% - 10% error here or there I could tolerate, but 50%+ error, this is just ridiculous. 2. Since Didi bought Uber (and thus monopolized the market) the prices are getting outrageous. 3. Why can’t I set my pick up location inside my apartment complex (i.e. street number, complex name and building number) so the driver can just drive right in and pick me up? 4. Why are the recommended pick up locations always in places where the drivers are not willing (or not able?) to stop their vehicle? I could go on, but my hour and half (estimated time was 59 minutes) ride is about to end. I wish there was an alternative to this app.
Almost unusable
by S555 on 2019/08/31 01:55
Shared bike hire not available in this version of the app. Can’t link WeChat to pay despite having adequate balance there. Function to scan credit card with camera doesn’t work. Basically, China again doesn’t work for foreigners.
Not good for foreigners until they speak language
by frustratedforeigner on 2018/08/29 00:14
This service has tremendous potential and works well if you speak Chinese. If you don’t, it’s a crap shoot. Most drivers do not check messages so if you say “Canadian woman red shirt by bus stop,” they still can’t find you and then call you- problematic if you don’t speak the language. Beijing people very willing to help but often not available when driver calls. I have suggested multiple times they train drivers to check messages. There is technology that would allow this to be done hands free or alert them and read them to them (or drivers could just answer when stopped (often in Beijing traffic). Until my Chinese improves, will use as infrequently as possible
Great App- Good service recovery for bad drivers
by annewailani on 2018/12/03 14:52
We used this app a lot while traveling in China. Sometimes Chinese drivers can be shady- we had one that talked on his phone and drove recklessly and one that made three intentional detours that resulted in a much higher increased fare. DiDi asks you to enable recording while on the drive- do this because when you have a bad experience they ask if they can access the recording. There are also buttons to immediately call the police if you find yourself in a bad situation. When we had the driver who took the detours, the app asked immediately if detours had been taken, and only charged us the estimate. The only downside, sometimes it doesn’t translate into English automatically so one of my friends had to take a picture with her phone on a translating app to see what it said. It has a great feedback section for every ride!
Do not travel to China without DiDi
by OteroHecht on 2017/11/24 13:54
The best and only Taxi App you can trust while living and/or traveling in China! Just do yourself the favor of downloading the app, set up International credit card and navigate the user interface in order to familiarize your self with it. It’s unquestionably not easy to navigate anything in China without knowing Chinese and inputting addresses and/or locations can be challenging in any local app. Yet, this is due to the fact that using Pinyin (Chinese-Romanization) writing it’s difficult if you have not taken Chinese. Regardless... of this, there are no other truly viable options with an English friendly GUI, that gets you where you need to go. We have been using DiDi for nearly four months on a daily basis and we could not live without it.
Terrible but better than the alternative
by Notgreatgame on 2017/11/13 09:29
Traveling in Shanghai and don't speak any Mandarin. Needed a way to get around so tried DiDi. Used it 10 times. First major issue is the English interface for entering starting location and destination is maddeningly bad. Locations super easily found in Google maps don't seem to exist. After 10 mins of trial and error I can usually find a location nearby, but often not the actual location. The credit card payment only accepts Visa, but doesn't tell you that (or at least that was the issue for me). After 10-15 minutes of frustratingly trying to set locations, the pick up and drop off worked great and payment seemed to work fine. One tricky part is the driver might text you in the app and it was in chinese. There are some default replies that you can give, but was never really sure if we understoood each other. Seems like lots of easy fixes, but foreigners are clearly not their target market.
DO NOT EVER USE Didi
by Kelsey.H on 2018/05/11 15:29
A flight attendant was sexually assaulted and killed couple days ago by a didi driver. I’m only rating didi a five star here so that people can see my comment. I was using didi a Friday night in some busy areas in Beijing by my self when the didi driver locked me in his car and ‘jokingly’ threatened to rob me. He was playing with the car lock and be like I know you have money and stuff. I called didi right after and didi says that I’d have to go talk to the police and there’s not much that they can do. The driver started to text me a bunch of really awful curses and threaten me that if I ever go to the police he will find me cus he knows will I live. In the end didi paid me 5 yuan for compensation and that’s it. Girls, never ever ride didi by yourself especially at night.
If you like to be angry - by all means get this
by Cimile1979 on 2017/12/12 11:46
The most useless rendition since didi got a hold of Uber and royally messed up a functional system. The app always chooses to show your pick up pin as the nearest ‘popular’ spot or something, and that is often across the street or around the corner from where you actually are and drivers picking up will mostly be going the opposite way from where you need to go. When you cancel due to this idiocy, they automatically renew your request so if you aren’t paying attention another driver might already be on the way even though you may have already flagged a cab. Try also doing this with frozen fingers and the pin constantly moving when you try to zoom the screen and you have yourself a recipe for some serious rage! Btw I speak Chinese - so this review isn’t coming from frustration of being unable to communicate with drivers, just from the utterly stupid user interface of this app.
Pretty good, not perfect.
by scrapplegrits on 2019/03/25 17:22
Used it once to get from hotel to Beijing airport. All in English until the end of the ride. Got some message with an exclamation point and 2 buttons, all in Chinese. Turns out it was asking me to OK the 5 RMB toll. I hope he got paid. They really need to translate the messages. The other issue was when I was waiting for the car. When I went away from the status screen there was no obvious way to get back or to even tell a car was on the way. Finally I tried to schedule a pickup, and it said don’t schedule pickup with one already active. Clicking in show details got me back to the car status display. Still, it’s marvelous to be less of a dependent child in China. Now I need we chat pay from a US credit card.

Thrive in China with DiDi
by #HappyTeacher on 2018/12/02 09:28
Before the English DiDi app, I dreaded traveling around my city. Now I feel empowered and excited to go beyond my local neighborhood. I feel safe and cared for. I have used their live representative several times and have been extremely satisfied with the results. I love that they provide instant access to police and emergency contacts. I can even choose to block a driver I do not want to ride with in the future. Before using DiDi, I had so many terrible experiences with city taxis with no one to help me. Gone are the days of smelly taxis, rude drivers, or being ignored for rides because I am a foreigner. Thanks to DiDi, I can enjoy my time in China and thrive.
So much better than a year ago
by Mtm1964 on 2019/03/29 03:10
I tried this maybe a year ago and this app was terrible. Now it’s usable and I use it nearly everyday for work. The location is still not as accurate as it could be. So sometimes you have to send out a search party to find your driver. As a company the customer service in English is also MUCH better than it had been. The cars and drivers- well that’s a crap shoot; most drivers are courteous and professional; once is a while you get a real character. The one I had the other night I’m sure was drunk. He played on the radio phone the same horrid song for the 30 minute ride which seemed like it would never end. If that wasn’t bad enough he’d get out of the car at stoplights. Why? I don’t know. Compared to Lyft which I used for the two weeks I was in Orlando last year, DiDi has a LONG way to go but again - huge improvement over a year ago . DiDi English is definitely going in the right direction! Maybe a year from now I can give them 5 stars!
Not working upon repeated downloads
by Win212 on 2019/07/11 14:35
I have spent countless hours trying to get this to work. Problem 1) My app shows cars are available in the area, but upon request, the wheel would spin endlessly and no car will confirm. On the contrary, my girl friend next to me, works immediately. I’ve tried to request car in many different cities across China, still same issue. Again, my gf’s app would work perfectly. Problem 2) it accepted my USA credit card (upon repeated entry), the first time around. But when I couldn’t request any car, I tried changing CC. However, it would now say bad internet connection and would not accept my foreign credit card, even tho I am on hotel Wi-Fi or my 4G signal. I don’t have a Wi-Fi connection issue even tho it keeps saying I do! Super frustrating. I tried redownloading several times, still doesn’t work!
More options needed
by smithworks on 2018/04/01 15:12
Nov 16, 2017: The English version works great in Changsha, but the choosing of destinations can be frustrating unless you know the exact name needed. In a near-future version, can we choose the destination by choosing a place on the map? Or can the DiDi app work in conjunction with the Apple map to choose pickup and destination locations? UPDATE Apr 1, 2018: To the developers, can you please add the ability to create an address list of places. Instead of only being able to choose by a street address or neighborhood name, let the user choose a name for the place. For example, instead of having to choose "Beautiful Life, 51 Wuyi Lu," let the user change it to "Xiao Pan's house" or "Wanda Mall."
This is not an Uber equivalent in Shanghai, China.
by Star Sentinel on 2019/03/10 02:16
The app itself is cleanly designed and has some decent features, however the main reason I needed this app was to get from my hotel in Shanghai to Disney approximately 13 miles (21 km) away from my hotel. (This was a work trip. Disney was a weekend plan if you wondering. ) The wait times are completely made up. My ride said 6-7 minute wait and it’s been over 90 minutes so far. While there may be multiple drivers in the area. They may not be willing to drive that far so you will just sit in “waiting for drivers” limbo wondering if someone will pick you up. My guess is if it is a shorter distance the drivers are willing to drive you but if you need to go very far in Shanghai, do yourself a favor and get some cash because you need to take the subway or a regular taxi.
For your safety, don’t use this app
by Shyyn33 on 2018/08/25 16:44
This company does not care for your safety. A flight attendant was raped and killed by a DiDi driver a couple months ago, this company issued an official (but hardly genuine) apology and promised to look into the issue of disciplining drivers. Yesterday, a young girl was raped and killed by another DiDi driver, whom another passenger has reported sexual harassment only one day prior. DiDi did not take any relevant action to the complaint, and continued letting said driver to pick up customers. The company’s ONLY goal is to make money, there’re no regulations, and disciplining drivers would cost them more than they gain. Therefore nothing has changed since the last tragedy, and nothing will change after this one. One can blame the company, blame the police, blame the government, but if you value your life, I suggest boycotting this company/app for your own safety.
Not helpful
by Disciple of Christ on 2017/11/23 06:38
Just like a lot of other things in China, this app is not foreigner-friendly. It says they allow you to make payments via foreign credit cards, but when I tried to set it up, it kept glitching. Gotta verify with my card provider that I didn’t get any bogus charges. The customer service option might as well be non-existent. They have pre-determined questions, and when you request online support, you get only two options. One, of you already had a ride, you can ask about that ride. Two, you can ask “other questions” but you just first choose your type of service. No options for payment setup issues, even though I had received a message telling me to contact customer service. I didn’t find the option to request a live support agent to talk to.
Downloaded it if u wanna lose ur life
by 我爱不举 on 2018/08/25 16:44
There r two girls recently get killed by Didi driver, the one was in May, and the company was promised will improve the app, but today, another innocent girl was killed by another driver. She even text her family and friends for help, and her friends contact the staff when they lost contact with the girl, but the customer service was lagging and won’t give out the drivers information, therefore the police couldn’t have anymore info for search the girl. The most important is that this driver was reported the day before by another lady, she was escaped from the driver when she found out something was wrong n report it to the customer service but the company still didn’t do anything but still give make the driver available on the app. Like I said, get it if u don’t want to live anymore
CaoCao 曹操 is a MUCH better app than this one
by Travel Fellow on 2018/07/25 06:48
CaoCao has much better service, all of their cars are electric and they pick you up much faster than DiDi. DO NOT GET THIS APP. Get CaoCao 曹操 instead. There is a bike rental option in DiDi , but only available if you use it in Chinese. It’s not available in English which is a problem when you are trying to use it in China. In addition you need to submit proof of age with your passport. This is an ok request, however I have submitted my information and pictures over four times and they take more than 5 hours to review and respond (despite their claim to get back in under 3 hours) and my age verification has been rejected each time with no useful information on how to correct the issue and no useful customer support to contact.
Has to prepay. Driver canceled and got ripped off
by Knewusr on 2018/06/15 15:34
Strange policy to prepay before even request a ride. So did so coz there is no other choice. Transaction went through and immediately the driver canceled the request. I left with no car, no record in the app, and money gone in my payment account! There is no way to claim money back in the app! I had to research online and find some complain article where the author had same problem and reported to the none automated customer service. I had to follow the not so obvious step to activate people customer service in app to request for refund. They say it’ll refund in 7 days. I have to watch my account in the next few days. No idea if they are trustworthy. Forget about this crappy app and save your time and worry.
DiDi is great until it doesn’t work and your stuck walking back to the train station!
by RestonEd on 2018/10/13 01:58
We used DiDi on a recent trip to Beijing. It seemed to work great at first. Yes the drivers speak no English, it’s frustrating but still easier than trying to hail a cab. The trouble came when we left Beijing and traveled to Tianjin, we were using DiDi to take us from place to place. On our fourth stop DiDi wouldn’t work. We called and they said we used it too much. We couldn’t get a regular cab so we had to walk an hour, with a dying cellphone, while the sunset, to the train station. If your planning on using DiDi too often in a single day (who knew that could be a problem) be aware that DiDi will leave you stranded.
Did not work for me in Hangzhou
by ann14334789 on 2019/10/30 03:22
I downloaded the app beforehand and input credit card info.
This is it.

Do NOT use this app!!!! I was assaulted by two of their drivers. Once using the taxi service and the second using the express service. I tried to use the function to call the police and was told it was “unavailable” so I used the “text police function” nothing.i contacted their customer service and was told “we’re sorry for any inconvenience that this has caused you.” Inconvenience?! I was ASSAULTED! That is more than an inconvenience. I asked them to call the police for me & they responded “we cannot do that but I will report it to the relevant department” please stay away from this company. Use CaoCao or 嘀嗒出行 or something else. And please, if you run into a driver with the license plate number B91L39 do NOT get in the car with him!
They should just let Uber or Grab operate...
by RCtennis3811 on 2019/02/10 07:02
Having been on this app for the past week while in China, it works ok. But not none of my credit cards are being accepted even though my banks in America say there’s nothing wrong on their ends. DiDi support is pretty awful, and they have a 48 hour turnaround for payments stuck. That’s awful for any tourist. Add to that this app is in English, but will load many screens and error notices in Chinese; it’s that poorly executed. Uber is fantastic for most of the world, and Grab is close behind for all of Southeast Asia. This is just really awful, and thankfully only in China and like 2 other places in the world.
Very useful. Excellent customer service.
by Mzzychan on 2018/12/02 03:57
This app is great to use in China. I have had an excellent experience with customer service. It would be nice to be able to save more locations as favorites into the address book, and maybe to preselect a choice about highway fares (such as requesting that all drivers add the highway toll fee to didi directly). Buttons for easy communication with a driver such as “please turn off the heat”, “please put on the air conditioner”, etc. would also be nice!
For girls — don’t use this app!!! It’s unsafe!!!
by Rancy_zhang on 2018/08/26 04:46
I’m writing regarding ANOTHER kill by DiDi driver in China. On August 23, 2018, a girl was raped and killed by a DiDi driver on her way to a party with friends. (What is this another? Cuz a girl was just raped and killed 3 months ago by a Didi driver!!!!) She texted her friends about her situation and asked for help. But when her friends tried to reach out to customer services for the driver’s information (plate number etc.) the customer representatives rejected for “privacy” reasons. However, they even refused to provide such “private” information to the police!!!! The girl asked for help at 2:15pm while the police didn’t even have the plate number at around 6pm!!!! This is a ridiculous company with completely unsafe app!!!!!!
Horrible Service
by miguelg719 on 2019/07/18 05:29
I was using Didi without any issue for weeks, until suddenly they decided to block the account with no notice whatsoever. I realized not because I was informed, but because I spent hours for days trying to call a taxi pointlessly—it would never arrive. I reached out to the help team to find out what was happening and all they said was your account is blocked, we will contact you in five days. I asked for an explanation and received none, tried to figure out a quicker solution and was absolutely denied. It’s ridiculous that this is all the online taxi service China has to provide. Do not trust this app, it might leave you hanging in the most unexpected places
Great until it isn’t...
by Spdracer888 on 2019/07/12 02:46
Being using Didi since they purchased Uber in China. Never had an issue until this morning when I couldn’t get a car. Upon contacting their customer service I was told the system flagged my account for irregularity. The rep said I “maliciously disrupted the platform” and the explanations are: “fake orders” “intentional bad comments” etc. I have never done any of those mentioned above except I use it frequently everyday. I have an Uber rider rating of 4.9 and never ever had an issue. To add insult to injury, the customer service said it will take at least 3 days to investigate. Sorry but there are better options in China. See you later DiDi.
Won’t allow you to pickup a person
by Rollwave on 2018/08/02 10:00
Most drivers are active on the platform because it gives incentive per trip during rush hour. This gives drivers motivations pick up and drop off only when you have one destination during rush hour, which is the only time most people need didi. If you want to pick up a friend then go to a dinner place, sorry, you have to queue on the didi platform and call for another driver. Sound strange and ridiculous, right? The driver just don’t want you on the vehicle any more, unless you generate another “trip”. I don’t get the point of sharing business model anymore. It’s against human nature imo.
Great improvements since my last review
by Reporter001_ on 2019/07/16 14:42
Last time I rated this app, it was falsely advertised as being in English. This was changed at some point and now this app is just awesome to get around in cities where English is supported. Very reliable map and payment estimation. Great alternative to the sometimes quite rude taxi drivers. Didi drivers are usually more friendly and their cars are new and clean.
Didi not efficient on US iPhone
by loulouchan on 2018/04/17 03:22
Didi could simplify the life of foreign travelers substantially by improving their technology. I have not been able to get Didi to work while roaming with an international data plan. It only works with a stable wifi signal which is complicated if you are in the street and need a pick-up. While many places have public wifi in touristy areas, their signal can drop if it is getting crowded. I have lost my drivers because of that. Once it is actually working it is great and easy to use. The chat interface allows you to type custom messages and translates them automatically.
OK, but with a few problems
by 李可明 on 2019/06/30 11:21
It’s a great app overall. However, there are a few problems. It always asks me for an emergency contact, but it only allows a Chinese phone number. The driver does not know that my phone number is international, so he wasted money calling me. The price changes too much sometimes in peak times (example: ¥50 to ¥100). Besides these problems, this app is really convenient for getting around.
Driver’s cars break down often!
by Seanbobbird on 2019/02/16 10:24
These clowns’ cars keep breaking down on the highway and then you get stuck for over an hour when you have places to be. They’ll offer you a refund if you ask (because you do get charged for these types of rides)... however, they don’t compensate you for the massive waste of time or inconveniences they cause you. If you ask them when the situation will be resolved “Hugo” will just remind you that he applied for a refund. Use Meituan 美团, they’re a better and less expensive app company that does the same thing but with better customer service.
not safe for now especially for young ladies
by SugarIsabel on 2018/08/25 18:05
Two beautiful girls were raped and killed by two drivers within four months. I don’t mean that all drivers are bad but the platform this app provides has a very huge safety problem that has not been taken into account or treated carefully. Many bad people can register to be Didi drivers through the unsound registration system. Maybe the monsters are just around you. The company did not take customers’ safety seriously. Though I had some satisfying trips using this app, I am still afraid to be the next victim. Not recommend this app until it’s safe.
Lies
by Drummer4uva72894 on 2019/03/11 01:54
Didi is all about lying...When you are waiting for your car, the “estimate” time is never correct, you will ALWAYS wait longer than Didi says. They do this to keep you sucked in and not take other transportation...The estimate price you see will more than likely be more. They don’t add in the interstate fees. Why not? They already know what route the driver is taking and how much the fee will be. They want you to think your trip will be cheaper so you don’t cancel it for a taxi, or other ride sharing apps like Dida (always cheaper, and usually 50% cheaper than Didi). Didi is dishonest, so I refuse to use it anymore.
A NEEDED APP IF YOU LIVE IN CHINA!
by Coffeelover3214 on 2019/01/13 04:12
I love Didi, I quickly realised this is a needed app if you live in China! You can only pay with your Chinese bank card, but you can pick from a taxi or a rated verified driver. I refuse to take Taxi‘s anymore because I‘ve been scammed. You can tale Taxi‘s on Didi, if they scam you, you can report them and Didi will tale care of it! Quick refund if needed, and 24/7 Customer service. A must get/needed App!! 👍🏽👍🏽
Can't live without it!
by Pawayne on 2018/03/29 05:53
Thank you so much for having English version. Although there are some glitches, I always make it to my destination safely and usually on-time. Easier to input destination when using English 🤗😎. Wish I could have more addresses saved in address book along with my home/work address 🤔. Overall extremely pleased. 👍👍
Excellent
by Mgett899 on 2018/01/07 11:30
The best app to get around China. This has simplified my live in ways that I can’t explain. Language barrier is not a problem, my Chinese is close to nothing. However, you can send the driver a preselected message that states “My location is accurate, use the gps to find me” and they always arrive without any problems. Simply the best. 5 ✨ for DiDi.
Stopped Working and Not Able to Tip
by kflinn718 on 2019/04/16 02:23
I used this app multiple times during my trip to China and it was working well, then I stopped getting matched with drivers. I was on the waiting screen forever. I contacted customer service and they said it was because there were no cars around but on the app it showed many cars around. I’m afraid it’s because I had bad reviews but I didn’t do anything to warrant that. Also, I was unable to figure out how to leave tips on the English version because that screen was in Chinese.
