GuitarTuna: Guitar, Bass tuner
Description
The #1 tuner in the world! This is not just a guitar tuner: we’ve got +100 tunings for 15 instruments! It’s fast, accurate and easy to use. GuitarTuna has been downloaded over 80 million times, which makes it the most downloaded tuning app in the world. Tuna has it all: • A LOT of tunings: standard, drop D, drop A, half step down and loads more • Metronome with tap-for-tempo and multiple time signatures • Chromatic tuner for alternative tunings and for tuning any instrument • The clean, intuitive and customisable UI makes it easy for anyone to use • Tools: Ear training, chord guide, games, and exercises. How it works: Just pluck a string on your instrument - Tuna detects the sound using your device’s microphone. You’ll get instant visual feedback while tuning. No cables needed. With our award-winning audio recognition technology, we guarantee you an insanely accurate tuning result. We use noise cancellation technology to eliminate background noises while you tune. The instruments we currently support: • Guitar • Guitar 7-String • Guitar 12-String • Ukulele • Cavaquinho • Bass • Bass 5-string • Violin • Viola • Cello • Fiddle • Mandolin • Balalaika • Banjo • Banjo 5-String • Chromatic tuner for all instruments We’ve put a lot of love and effort into making GuitarTuna the tuner it is today. User feedback is valuable to us, and you can be sure we’re listening. We recently added chromatic tuner to the app because of the sheer amount of requests for it. With the chromatic tuner, users can create their own tunings or tune basically any instrument (you can even identify your landline’s beeping frequency). GuitarTuna Pro subscription: Subscribe for unlimited access. Subscriptions are monthly. Prices may vary in different countries. Payment will be charged to iTunes Account. Subscription automatically renews unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24-hours before the end of the current period. Account will be charged for renewal within 24-hours prior to the end of the current period. Subscriptions may be managed by the user and auto-renewal may be turned off by going to the user’s iTunes Account Settings. Any unused portion of a free trial period will be forfeited when the user purchases a subscription. GuitarTuna is developed by Yousician. Check out the app to learn and master guitar, ukulele, bass, piano or singing! It’s pretty cool you actually read this far! Here’s a joke for you: What’s the difference between a bass and a tuna? You can tuna bass, but you can’t bass a tuna. Now download the app and see how it is. Send us your feedback of the joke and the app to support@guitartuna.com! https://yousician.com/privacy-notice https://yousician.com/terms-of-service

I love this app! it’s so good at tuning my Uke/Guitar, but i recently got a lyre and couldn’t find ANY ones for tuning the lyre. Can you consider adding it?

Is very good helped tune my violin
I love this app!
by dnidbusbshhsbs on 2020/11/30 23:05
GuitarTuna allows you to tune your instruments correctly, and can help your string skills to learn the chords on your instrument, and to memorize and learn the sounds of your musical instruments! I’ve had this app for awhile now, and I’ve tuned all my instruments with this app, it’s not like any other app you can download. GuitarTuna is worth the download!! You can pay for a monthly subscription to use more activities to get better at the instrument your playing. Download GuitarTuna.
Pretty good
by Erwit342 on 2020/11/30 22:36
I loved the usability. I pretty new and can’t take lessons so I saw this and thought why not. This app is great and I would recommend it to anyone.
Great app!
by MasterAtGuitar on 2020/11/30 19:36
Great app! Definitely recommend for any type of guitar. Electric, acoustic, etc. sometimes if your guitar is way out of tune or you have just restrung it tho , it will not pick up the right string so you have to mess with it for a while. But other than that great app!!👍🏻
Bye bye

I am a total newbie to the stringed instrument clan. I got a ukulele, and am taking my lessons pretty seriously, and I simply must have a tuned uke. I know you can easily buy a tuner to put on the instrument and it’s less than paying each month, but I like using the app. I tune before every session and if it’s a long sesh, I may tune again. I can hear it in my ear from years of vocal training, and Tuna helps me get that string right on pitch very easily, even fine-tuning it. No pun intended. Plus it’s right there on my phone, no searching my bag or fidgeting with another device. Quick, easy, works every time.
Was good until...

I’ve been using this app since I first started playing guitar. My cousins Ukulele needed to be tuned so I used this app to tune it. Keep in mind I don’t know much about ukulele’s besides the fact that it’s a small guitar with 4 strings. I began tuning it and as I always do, I put it into manual mode so that the app knows exactly which string I’m tuning. I begin tuning a string and it comes up as -993, which is very odd for any instrument to be that out of tune. So I figured there might be a problem with my life proof case since it fully concealed my phone. I take off my life proof case, play the string again, and the same number pops up. So I begin tightening the string and the number isn’t going up at all. I figured that it’s pretty odd for that to happen. I keep tightening the string and the number still won’t go up. So after about three or four turns, the string popped on me and broke. I thought to my self that it may just be because I don’t know enough about ukulele’s. I realized that I needed strings for Les Paul, so I stopped at Sam Ash and picked up some Super Slinky’s. I got home and put the strings on as usual, and then I began tuning the guitar. I always start with the low E and then do the rest by ear. So I begin picking the low E and it goes back to the number -993. I said this can’t be possible, and there’s no way that it happens that my guitar and my cousins ukulele were both this low. This app needs a lot of improvement. It has costed me a new set of ukulele strings. Poor quality!!!
Trash!
by FortniteQueen287 on 2020/11/27 04:49
The tuning part is fine, but the mini games to teach you about chords are straight garbage. IM PLAYING THE FREAKING CHORD AND ITS NOT WORKING/SHOWING UP ON THE GAME !!!😡🤬

It’s good
by Casey__Games on 2020/11/19 13:34
This tuner is great as a standard tuner but you have ya for other tunings. For tuning to other tunings I use a boss chromatic if I have my pedal board, on my phone though, I use fender tune.
Standard tuning only 👎
by Spychar1 on 2020/11/19 00:44
5 dollars a month if I want to tune in anything other than E standard? There are other free apps out there. Do your homework and get them instead.
Perfect.

8 string tunings
by DemiLords on 2020/11/10 23:49
What about 8 string and 9 string tuning? I know it’s not popular... but that’s an inconvenience to 8 and 9string guitar users. Maybe we’re not included for a reason.
Why I like this app
by meow 🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈 on 2020/11/10 23:28
I like this app because it provides great games and it tunes my instrument.
No landscape orientation support
by Asher Hawthorne on 2020/11/10 23:22
I love this app, but I’ve noticed it seems to get more and more bloated over time while basic features such as landscape orientation support are ignored. I’ll gladly change this review once landscape support has been added.

Love it
by Mikespeace on 2020/11/06 08:28
I use this app a lot. And it has wide range calibration. Most tuners stop at 436. This one allows you to tune into the right frequencies for YOUR MUSIC to flow the way it was meant to rather than spoon fed pop culture thinks it should. Some of you know the frequencies... 😉
help i love this though use it everyday execlent job
by awsomebotboy on 2020/11/05 19:17
dont feel bad but could you try and make it so the uklele notes are more reconizable because i used the game and did the right thing but it says im not doing any cords dont get me wrong still execelent job i love this app

So, I was looking for a tuner and I found this. I was really nervous to try this, but surprisingly this worked really well.
Over priced
by DigiZombis on 2020/11/03 18:05
GuitarTuna is possibly the best mobile app tuner that I’ve used, however; they require a monthly subscription for tunings outside of standard tuning which is a serious ripoff over time. Until they move to a pay-once model I cannot support this.
Rock out
by Nicholas Leonardo on 2020/11/03 17:57
I love this Tuner. It’s very easy and very well contrasted as far as the images. I love you Guitar Tuner.
5 stars EXCEPT
by Caseys875001 on 2020/11/03 05:07
I’m really not sure how every review doesn’t mentioned this, but the app plays a confirmation “ding” when a string is in tune which the microphone picks up and causes a spike in the tone reader! It’s a super annoying function that should just be removed. I have to turn my phone’s sound off when I tune my guitar. Edit: there is an option to turn this off! 5 stars
I love it

I don’t really know how to play guitar yet and it’s just a simple tuner. It’s easy to use, all you have to do is strum a key and it tells you too high of too low. There’s different kinds of settings and it’s just a really good app

Good basic tuner but get rid of subscription price
by Changecat on 2020/10/23 20:56
Good tuner and interface but making a monthly fee for other turbines is over the top. Make it a fixed fee and I’ll increase the rating.

Definitely surpassed expectations, and way faster and better then manually tuning it, but I wish I wasn’t bombarded with ads for the full version, and I know there is only so far you can go, but I wish it was more accurate. Thanks

Really useful but there’s one problem
by anonymous 780 on 2020/10/15 17:57
I downloaded to this to tune my Violin for Orchestra class which helps a lot but when I tune my G-String, it keeps thinking I’m playing the A-String saying that the A-String is low. When I click on the G icon, I play G but works for a bit but then again it says I’m not playing that note. I’m not sure if that was understandable but could you possibly fix it?
Eh
by Arenera7 on 2020/10/15 12:26
I love this app but upset to know now you have to subscribe to buy different tunings rather than just buying it once and having it. Like it once was. Very disappointed

Great tuner, but $5 a month for “premium” tunings is insane, and gives me serious doubts about the company who makes this app. Bad judgment there, people.

Secret weapon
by Bggggeeeedd on 2018/04/15 01:20
I downloaded this app thinking it was just a standard guitar tuner. I used it for about 6 months just as a tuner. I needed to tune a 12 string acoustic for my dad and didn't have a 12 string tuner. I did a little exploring in this app and low and behold I found it actually has a setting just for 12 strings! It cut the time of tuning from ear to doing it off the app from 10 minutes + by ear to barely any time with using the app. So as I realized I hadn't takin advantage of the app as much as I should I started exploring even more. It's a gold mine of knowledge. Not only is it a tuner (best app tuner I've used personally) but it also has a metronome , games , chords, a plethora of instruments to choose from and it's SUPER easy to navigate. I got my dad an iPhone (first iPhone he's 65) and he always complained about how it was hard to use. I showed him the GuitarTuna app and he hasn't ever had any confusion with how to use it. I think that says a lot of how instinctive the user interface is if my dad can do it :P all in all I can't recommend this app enough. I literally tell all my guitar player friends to try it and not one has said anything negative about it. I love it! I can't imagine how the developers can make it better than it already is but something tells me they will! Thanks for making an awesome app. From one musician to another, THANKS!!! Cheers! -Brad.
I really like this app!!
by shorty0979 on 2017/10/24 17:08
I've never personally tuned a guitar,- I've always had to have someone tune it for me when I briefly owned several guitars many years ago. At the time, I had bought them for my (now) ex husband so he was the one who always tuned them. But unfortunately, when I eventually left him- He got rid of them all instead of giving them to me since I paid for all of them. So needless to say, I've never really had the chance to learn how to play much at all. Recently, I was given another guitar from my sister, & knew I needed to learn how to tune it so I downloaded this app. I find it extremely easy to use & very helpful. Now I can tune my guitar (& maybe??) FINALLY learn how to play like I've always wanted too!! I LOVE Music & have to listen to it daily, it's my "Escape" from the world, my life, & all the problems or stresses that I might face daily. I've always wanted to learn how to play for as long as I can remember, so that I could eventually learn to play (at least some??) of the songs I love to listen to everyday or maybe even some that I grew up listening to as a kid. I'm thankful for this app so I can begin my journey towards reaching my goal/dream of learning how to play guitar & music. Thank you for making this app so very easy!! I Love It!!
Nice app definitely recommended
by Xx_DonutEater_xX on 2018/01/19 20:29
Hello everyone reading this. This is an app that made my life so much easier. I started playing guitar 4 months ago and I didn’t know anything about the guitar. So I needed someone to tune my guitar for me or at least help me (My grandpa knows how to play and tune guitar. He was pretty young when he started playing on it. But I can’t always ask him to help me). So this app was just perfect for me. It’s free. It shows you all the chords. It’s precise while tuning. And it has little mini-games as well (although if you want more games you need to pay. But it’s pretty reasonable price). So the bottom line than. If you want the basics of the basics on guitar this is the app that will provide you with anything. If you want to learn more you need to pay (But I think their Yousician app is much better if you wanna “master” the guitar). And the best thing is that the app is beautiful, it has a good tuner and all the chords you will probably ever need. (This was kinda too big of a bottom line 🤣) Thank you for reading!
Versatile and very usable
by Charles Bailey ~ on 2017/07/09 16:09
The tuner provides great visual feedback during the tuning process, and is rapidly responsive. It is a bit sensitive to environmental noise, even using a contact microphone, so works best in a relatively quiet setting: people in the room are fine, but several instruments tuning near each other is a problem. I'm guessing the iOS sound input system has a lot to do with this; perhaps the best the app can do is try to focus hard on the pitch with highest amplitude. In terms of design, the tuner is very informative. Being tied to an instrument profile allows it to give clear direction, though it may mean that you need to purchase one of the profile sets to get the data for your instrument. The only thing I miss for this function is a chromatic tuner, since it's sometimes nice to place a pitch you're hearing. The chord library is very rich, if you play a guitar. The metronome is handy as well. I don't use the games or song exchange. The topics look interesting, though. Overall, if you're willing to make the modest investment in the expanded tuning profiles and don't absolutely need the ability to display an arbitrary pitch, it's an excellent choice as a tuning and reference utility.
I love this app!

This app has been amazing! Before I get into detail, this app has helped me learn so much, and I’m so glad I downloaded it. It has been the easiest way for me to learn chords. I first downloaded this app when I began playing guitar, to help keep it in tune. As I became more familiar with the app and my guitar, I started using the “learn to play chords” feature. When I was ready to learn new chords I purchased the full version. One of the best purchases I could’ve made. All of the features expand for the guitar. But, not all of the features expand for the ukulele. This is pretty disappointing. This app has been a foundation for me learning to play and I really wish they had the “learn to play chords” feature for the uke. Hopefully the developers are working on this! Honestly if you’re newer (or even experienced) to playing and are looking for an app to help you get your instrument in tune and learn new chords I’d recommend this app.
Great for any level guitarist

I have played guitar for over 20 years. I love this app. It is a relatively accurate tuner that is always as close as your phone. I play guitar and bass, depending on what band I am playing with and my mood. I enjoy this app because of the versatility of the tunings. Sometimes I play in standard, sometimes half a step down, sometimes in drop C, and open tunings. All of these and more are a simple menu away. I use my Korg strobe tuner with my rig and a needle tuner for setups, but I honestly use Guitar Tuna more often than any other tuner. Plus there are lots and lots of other features for actually learning to play the guitar and work on your skills that I haven’t even touched. Even the free version is great for standard tuning. Drop the money and get the app. You will see that you get more than you pay for!
Solid Tuner

Lemme start with the one flaw: WAY too many ads for Yousician. I've heard great things about Yousician, don't get me wrong, but it just seems a little silly to have a whole section in the toolbar devoted to a different app. Now that my complaint is outta the way, I have to thank the devs. Like, seriously. Thank you guys. I am by no means an avid musician (I just picked up banjitar a month ago, and the only other musical knowledge I have is choral), and this lil app right here has helped so much. The tuner itself, the initial reason I got GuitarTuna, is phenomenally precise, even in my old iPhone 5c. I'd swear by it. There's also the super extensive chord library, which I will never have the expertise to fully delve into. GuitarTuna has helped this awkward, musically naïve teenage dude begin his journey down the road of banjitar enlightenment. This is one app that will always have a place very close to my heart: in my phone.

From all of the tunner apps on the market I’m only reviewing the ones that are free. Being a real musician, and currently having zero to no money, when I type into google ‘tuner apps for free’ I’m assuming the results are going to be representative of free tuner apps.....not apps that are free until you want to tune with them.... Apparently that’s what most app development people assuming is going to work. What they don’t understand is that when I go through all of the effort of finding your app, downloading your app, installing your app, opening your app, and learning how to use your app....only to be greeted with “you must purchase this app in order to get it to work…They not only have lost a customer… They’ve made an enemy for life… I actually have a special spot in my password black book it’s labeled poison… In on this page or only the names of the developers who have wasted my time by misrepresenting their free app… This app, is a breathe of fresh air. You can actually use this app to tune your guitar for free… If you pay additional amount it’ll do a lot more cool stuff for you, but if you don’t have the money to pay for the upgrades, it still functions fantastically as a tuner … Four stars… A+ plus… Way to go guys you’re the best
Best for learning guitar
by Lazy Crative on 2017/09/29 21:12
Have you ever taken a class where the instructor not only allowed smart phones but insisted you download a specific app? Last year at my college I took a guitar class for non music major with no previous experience in guitar. It is called guitar class. So there were other students in it. It was 1 credit hour & I got an A. If you pass that with at least a C you can only take it once. I'm currently in what os called guitar elective. That is a one on one lesson in his office. Elective guitar can be taken as many times as the student wants. The pendulum is crucial to learning & the tuning is crucial to just using a guitar. This music teacher could teach a rhesus monkey to play the ukulele. I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in the guitar whether they are a beginner or a pro stadium musician.
More like a blessing than an app
by TheTenthDoctorIsSexy on 2018/02/11 03:16
My friend introduced me to this app and since then, this app has been a blessing in my life. With it, I am able to tune my ukulele, violin, guitar, and my best friend's cello. It is so easy to use and is very precise. Even with the free version (which is what I have) there is so much you can do. Not only can you tune your instrument with this app, but you can also use the tools in the app such as the metronome or the chords tool where it shows you the fingering for different chords on the ukulele and guitar. It also has an option in the chords tool where you can listen to the chord to make sure you are playing it correctly. Overall: I rate this a 6/5. This is probably the most useful app I have downloaded on my phone and it is so easy to use. Love love love it!!!
Great app, extremely useful.
by MLGsniperclanminecrafter on 2017/12/31 19:56
When I started playing Ukulele, I could never keep it in tune, it was a pain, and I had no idea where to start, so when I started learning guitar, I was even more overwhelmed. When I was playing one night with my horrendous sounding guitar, a friend told me about this app. I downloaded it, and almost instantly, my guitar and ukulele were sounding great. A year later, this app is still my go-to tuner, and although I do know how to tune without an app or tuner, this app truly helps me when I’m not quite sure. I recommend this to any guitarist, whether you’re a beginner, an amateur, or a pro. Even if you have a clip on tuner, this app is great for when you leave it at home, or can’t find it. 10/10 would download again.
Great, but with a couple annoying quirks
by katieyouoldfool on 2019/07/31 08:05
Before anything else, let me say this app is still 100% worth getting and I use it pretty much every day. It’s not just a tuner, it’s everything you need when practicing on your own. BUT there are a couple minor problems that got pretty annoying the more I used the app. The chord library interface is really bad. I love that they have so many chords and alternate fingerings, but really I wish there was just a button for each chord, instead of having to slowly scroll a dial through every note and variation to find the one I need. Also, I think the tuning calibration might be off. In settings, it says it’s automatically calibrated to to 440hz. But, whenever I play something already tuned properly to 440, like a digital keyboard, it reads as a 2-3 semitones too high. I’ve tried this with multiple instruments and used the app on several different devices and it happens every time. You can easily get around this by just changing the calibration to 443hz in settings, but it’s something to keep in mind, especially if you play in a group with other people. Again, I still recommend this app, flaws and all. There are just a couple things I’d love to see improved in future updates.
Great for tuning, but!!
by A new soul on 2020/07/23 04:04
this is a great tuning app, but there is one major problem, it is not very accessible for those of us who are blind. I somehow keep losing the automatic tuner, then I have to uninstall it or find someone to put it back for me. Also, I can’t take advantage of the other things in the app and I have a subscription. I was trying to use the free tuner, but it didn’t work out so I thought I would get a subscription and it would be better. It isn’t!! yes the tuner works for when I tune my guitar in standard tuning, and I like the fact that it has the tone to let me know it’s in tune. I keep seeing all the things that the subscription provides and I can’t use any of that! this is the closest thing I can get to an electronic tuner, I really really hope you guys will make it better for those of us who have to use voiceover and other screen readers.
Works very well

As a young boy (in my early 20’s) I picked up my first hand me down flat top and bought a chord chart poster from Walmart and self taught myself how to strum chords enough to eventually start playing parties and small bars. I never did learn how to tune however but I can definitely tell when she’s out. I would always have to ask a friend or count on a small tuner that was easy to misplace or lose but now I can do it on my phone which I always have in my pocket and its extremely accurate as I’ve checked it on tuners and with class act guitar players including myself. There’s no bothersome pop ups (thank God) and it never asks me to buy anything,(again thank God) or I would drop it from my phone. Great deal for anybody out there.
great for learning the basics but...
by smhgamergal on 2019/06/29 14:00
It only gets 3 stars because they need to add a feature where you can play the chord practice games without a timer, Because it gets really annoying to have to keep restarting the game if you are a novice trying to learn the chords and can only get a couple before you have to stop and pickup your phone to restart the lesson. I was so stoked to see there was a feature that would teach you the chords and pick up if you were playing them correctly through the microphone and I paid for the full app only to find out how ridiculously obnoxious it is to have to restart every 45 seconds. seriously you need to add a feature where you can just play the games with no timer or with a custom timer. it's messed up the way it is now where you can only play each game for 45 seconds at a time.
So good i wrote a review.

Making the switch to trying life as an all digital, all mobile, iPhone based guitar(enthus)i(a)st ... giving up tubes and pedals for simplicity’s sake. I am trying out many dozens of guitar apps as a result — including tuners — and this one definitely stands out. I wish alternate tunings came free, but its worth the (minimal) price if you need them. Many of the apps i have used have tuners built in to them but — even when i am actively using just such an app — i still find myself switching to this one, and honestly i couldnt tell exactly quite why. Maybe its the fengshui of the layout but this app just has that all around quality feeling that makes it rise above the rest. Yeah, its just a tuner, but it nails the execution.
sick!
by yum~yum🗿 on 2019/05/30 23:17
i got this app when i FIRST started playing guitar and it did its job well, taught me all my major chords and tuned my guitar pretty well, but as i progressed (learned everything the app had to offer) i realized i needed everything else the app had to offer so i purchased the pro version and its 10x more useful. Basically what im trying to say is this app is great for beginners (beginner myself) but you definitely need the pro version if you’re really gonna take guitar seriously and use it on a day to day basis to teach yourself guitar and progress, unless you’re going for in person lessons with a teacher of course. If you're not going for in person lessons don't worry this app will take care of you.
More than just a tuner
by rainbow chords on 2019/07/31 22:00
I downloaded this app cause I didn’t have a guitar tuner and I didn’t want to buy one if I didn’t have to. So I downloaded this app thinking it was just a tuner, and only using it as a tuner for a few weeks. But one day I was trying to learn a song on guitar and I didn’t know one of the chords, so I was looking through apps but all of the good ones had you do the subscription and pay and whatnot, then I tried looking it up but it didn’t help, so I gave up basically. Then I was experimenting around with this app, seeing what else it had, and then I found it! Under games I found a learn chords game and the learn to play chords game and I found the chord I was looking for!
Loved it. No complaints.
by kaejisan on 2018/09/10 01:00
I love this app. I’ll be honest, I’m not musically inclined. I have no sense of rhythm, I can’t come close to reading sheet music, and I was just about done dreaming of being a musician (without any success). I wanted to let myself down easy. However, I found this app, and considering the good reviews, I figured I’d give it a shot. I finally managed to tune the guitar I hadn’t touched since fourth grade when I got it, and even my sister’s crappy Five-Below ukulele. This app works wonders. I even learned a few chords. Crazy. Unfortunately, I cannot access the shop to unlock any new chords. That has nothing to do with the app, though. That’s my problem, haha. However, this app inspired me to learn a new skill. While I’m going to have to go online for new chords, I need to say that this app set me up for success — so far. Again, I’m no professional. I’m a high school freshman whose friend said you can get girls with guitar. I’m a 5’1 ginger, so I need all the help I can get. Maybe I can be the new Ed Sheeran? Probably not, but at least now someone can find some appeal in my personality :) Thank you, GuitarTuna! -Kadison
Good accuracy
by Criticbuster on 2018/07/06 07:49
I don’t usually write reviews about apps, since I find it very helpful to read about others experiences with apps, maybe mine can help people as well. I’ve been playing the guitar for over 40 years, so I was just looking for an app that could tune the guitar accurately. I love the fact that the app has so many separate parts that you can add to it. I don’t need all the other stuff, other players may enjoy the chord library, metronome, and the practice sections it has. Only thing I would like to see is the standard guitar interface have the ability to tune chromatically instead of having no guitar image at all. But great app!
Overall great, but missing a few things
by Cece8289 on 2018/11/20 17:21
Let me start by saying this is a REALLY good app. It’s very accurate, it saves me tons of time with tuning, and it has ALMOST every tuning under the sun to choose from. That being said, for more advanced players who are using less popular tunings like drop G, drop G#, drop F, etc., you’re going to have a really tough time because those aren’t an option. There IS an option to custom tune a 6 string which is great, but does also have some limitations. But I really do wish there was an option to do custom tuning for a 7 string because they only offer standard and drop A for 7 strings (yeah, they’re the most commonly used, but not the only ways to tune a 7 string). But otherwise, really well made app!
Useless tuner
by TruthSetsYouFree on 2020/09/11 15:22
Such a pain to use and I’m giving up trying to tune my acoustic guitar with this app. For example the green bar will never ever settle in the middle of the tune graph letting you know you’re in perfect tune — the notes are always “too high” or “too low,” no matter how much I try to correct it to achieve perfect pitches on my guitar. Since the first method was a bust, I tried relative tuning, trying to get one note in tune by using the app, and then taking it from there, tuning the rest of the strings by ear. That was annoying too, because the notes in the app don’t ring out for several seconds like on a real guitar — this makes it extremely tedious trying to get the low E string in perfect tune since the low E note in the app cuts off after half a second. It sounds unnatural and stupid. Not gonna fuss with this app any longer. I’m just gonna buy a cheap $10 tuner and delete GuitarTuna.
Great App, having trouble restoring old purchases
by DanFingerMan on 2019/08/08 00:56
Been using app for about a year or so. My go-to tuner for guitar tunings. However, I have a slight problem with restoring my guitar tuning options. I recently had to change phones because old phone was badly damaged and I have most guitar tunings unlocked on that version of the app (previous phone). I see now that I have to subscribe in order to unlock the tunings rather than simply being able to buy the ones you need? Is that the reason I cannot access the previous library of tunes I purchased a while back? Please help. I like this app a lot as it provides super accurate tuning.
Best tuner ever!
by X-Clasher on 2018/08/01 23:11
That might be a slightly bias statement but it's from someone who has had GuitarTuna for close to I wanna say 3 maybe 4 years. My point is that in all this time as long as I had my phone with me, any guitar was gonna be in tune. And I haven't dabbled much outside of standard tuning but with the ease of user interaction I'm sure all of them are worth it. I recommend this app to every guitar player I know and now I'm finally taking a moment to recommend this app to all of you whom I don't know. Look no further, this is the app you need to keep your strings singing in harmony 👍🏼 And finally, just a big Thank You to GuitarTuna for existing! MVA! (Most Valuable App) lol
Great tuner
by Original PBR Man on 2018/06/13 20:34
This tuner is quick and easy to use. It has both visual and audible cues to let you know when your string is perfectly in tune. With the free version, you can select from different tunings: guitar, bass, ukulele and cavaquinho. It includes a metronome with many different counts (4/4, 5/4, 7/4, etc), and a chord library. There are also some games, but I haven’t played any of them. You will need to upgrade (pay $) to get alternative/ custom tunings. With the upgrade you get tunings for guitar, bass, ukulele and cavaquinho, as well as 7 and 12 string guitar, 5 string bass, violin family and folk instruments. I only have the free version so I can’t review the upgrade.
One of the best apps ever!
by juniper hoffman on 2019/06/09 10:20
This is one of the best apps I’ve ever used. I really like how it has both the tuning part of the app AND also the part where it tells/teaches you how to play different chords on the guitar. I’ve literally tried almost every single app out there and I have yet to find any apps that are like this one. PLUS it ALSO kinda lets you do all different kinds of stuff on this app as well! 😲 Thank you so much for creating this app! It has REALLY been useful for me for when I am tuning up my guitar AND trying to learn how to play different chords on the guitar as well! 🎸 😊 😃 Once again... thank you GuitarTuna for creating this app! ☺️
This is Absolutely GREAT!! Totally recommend!!

So, I just started playing the ukalele and this app has really helped me tune my ukalele without being OVERLY confused. I love this app so much because It also helps me learn my cords. This app is very useful and helpful ! Totally recommend this app for any type of guitar/ ukalele, etc. players and even beginners like me! This app also tells me some awesome songs that I can play and rock! There is also learn cord games which is VERY fun and little do you know is helping you learn your instruments cords! LOVE THIS APP!! Like I said TOTALLY RECOMMEND for anyone trying to play the guitar, ukalele, etc. Thanks! And that is a wrap on why I gave this app a 5 star rating !!!
Understandable and Appealing Interface
by Feared Alpha on 2020/03/02 05:04
This guitar tuner is very accurate let alone beautiful, the animations make it seem like the sound is coming to life. I have been a loyal customer to yousician for about three years and i wouldn't have it any other way. I do have to offer some constructive criticism. The buttons and interface when it comes to switching out from a standard tune to a tuning of A gets bit confusing and they should make it more straight forward instead of making it feel a bit like a maze and in no way should tuning a instrument to cost money...Other then that i love to vibe of the app!
Easiest best guitar tuner
by vansonn on 2018/06/02 15:34
I was moving and was going to get rid of my guitar since I never learned to play it and decided to keep it and learn. I had an old electric tuner that needed new batteries so I downloaded this app. People had messed with my guitar over the years while it just sat in a corner and so it was way out of tune. With this app I was able to get it back in tune in less than a minute (first time using the app). So, needless to say, this app is extremely easy to use and very accurate as well. Big thx to whoever made it. I have been playing for about three weeks now and am progressing quickly thx to this guitar tuner.
Efficient
by Rosedust24 on 2017/03/13 19:47
It's a music tuning app, so there will be pros and cons. The fact that we do not have to go out and purchase a decent tuner should make us all happy. Like anything else, it can mess up. These are minor, like when the microphone struggles with picking up the sound waves, it will tweak out sometimes. Oh and the pop up that asks users to rate the app.. so I finally did it. Though, I'm sure it will keep popping up every now and then. Other than that, I use it just about every day. I've tried some other tuning apps, but i prefer the dark theme of GuitarTuna! And it's set up nicely, easy to see and auto tune.
Can’t just view frequency any more
by Agentmith on 2019/03/05 18:32
I’ve been using this to tune various non-standard instruments based on frequency and never had a problem until today. It keeps bringing me to the store page for some reason and it’s incredibly frustrating. Before, all I needed to do was open the app and it wouldn’t be associated with an instrument, it just measured the frequency and told me if the pitch value was correct. This is literally all I want, and I can’t find this anymore. I’ve restored purchases and all that. If this used to be something that was removed and is now a paid in-app purchase or a subscription, I’ll just ditch this and use something else, which I hope isn’t the case as I’ve used this app for years. Its a dirty practice to remove features that were included for however long then ask for more money to get them back.
A Breeze
by amyleemayer on 2020/11/28 13:43
I am a total newbie to the stringed instrument clan.
New update lags behind
by Ultistat on 2017/01/28 10:03
I've used this app for several months now, and it's been great so far. Great as a chord reference guide, great for its primary tuning capabilities. No complaints prior to the most recent update. However, as of this update made available several days ago, I have noticed that the swiping mechanism within the app seems delayed. It doesn't feel as responsive as it was before, and there is a lag once you swipe until the panel stops moving. This is a nuisance, requiring multiple attempts to do something that once required one smooth swipe across the screen. Moreover, the chord diagrams seem significantly smaller (although with higher resolutions) than before, making them less impactful than before. It would be great if these issues could be resolved, as I love using this app and will continue to use this app in spite of the minor inconveniences sourced from this update. Also, it would be cool if guitar scales were also available within the app, I would find it super helpful in my quest towards guitar proficiency. Thanks for reading, and I hope to see these changes made soon!
Kids love this app
by Don'tWantToType on 2017/05/17 18:59
Update: sometimes it just goes blank, no reference as to how off you are on tuning a particular string. It just couldn't hear the "G" on one of the guitars. Downloaded another app and tuned that one last string in 5 seconds. Intuitive app, was able to tune the guitar in 5 min on our first time trying it out. So far didn't see any annoying ads or payment pushing. Just used it with a 7 yr old who enjoyed tuning his guitar! Normally guitar practice is a chore, but this app added some excitement to the mix. To use, tap on what string you are to tune, then start tapping the string with right hand while the left is tightening/loosening. Easy to see if you are getting closer. Once the string is tuned a pleasant sound rings (that's a smile right there). To improve, I would recommend a sound or a voice notification when you need to go higher or lower. Or a bright beaming light, or arrow that points where you need to go. The text notifications are helpful, but not as attractive as the rest of the app. Keep up the great work!
Good for all strings but E
by ODDSLOWEN on 2017/02/19 21:49
I use this weekly to tune my Ibanez GRX20, and sometimes my acoustic if I need it. In order for the music I'm playing so sound good, my guitar must be in tune perfectly. This app has done that, but left my E string out of tune and sounding horrible. The app itself just gives up on trying to tell how sharp or flat the E is, and frequently the pitch of the note would be seen wobbling tremendously on the tune diagram. Sometimes when I first play I get a "-4335" being flat, then it just randomly thins out to near in tune. Then it strikes up to "+335" being sharp. The accuracy for the E string is crap. As for the other notes, when I tune them the diagram centers them, and I get a green "+0" indicator in the middle of the in tune line. Absolutely perfect. That's for all the other notes except E. For E, if I get it somewhat in tune, the indicator with the + and - number dances between numbers below ten, both sharp and flat. The app itself can't perfectly tune my E, but it just aggravates me that a world renowned app known for guitar tuning can't properly tune one note. I guess the app is just really sensitive to the E string.

As I teach music lessons, I’m always looking for new tools to make my and my students’ job easier. This app certainly fits the bill. I love that it automatically switches strings so you can use the app hands-free. I love that you can see which tuning peg goes with the string you’re tuning (as long as it’s close enough to the note it’s supposed to be). If it’s way off, you can tap the peg and it will play the corresponding pitch for that string so you know to tune up or down. Very visual and intuitive. It has a tap tempo metronome too! That is a HUGE plus as I teach students how to play with a metronome, because they can tap the tempo they are currently comfortably playing at and it takes out the guesswork. I could go on, as I just recently discovered the chords section (very helpful when we are switching to ukulele and I need to remind myself the difference). Oh and did I mention they have more than just standard tuning? Yep, they have a visual ukulele tuner too! Fantastic.
Not going good so far
by @simply._.carley on 2019/09/15 20:12
Okay so I’m 12 going on 13 and I have used this app for almost 5 months now, because my Teacher recommended me to get it, She said that it would be easy to use for me so that I could tune my guitar. And it has up until now, today I was going to practice my guitar and figured it was probably out of tune, so I got on the app and started to tune it. When I got to my low E, it kept saying it was in tune and I knew it wasn’t, I even deleted the app and reinstalled it and it still didn’t work, so until y’all get it fixed I’m going to use another app. NOT HAPPY😬😤😤
Best tuning app so far
by DKKeyes on 2017/07/15 17:24
This is my go-to tuner any time. It's not only the most easy to use and accurate tuner, it also has a lot of awesome features I love. I teach guitar and I tell all my students to download this app because of it's other awesome features - The chord library is very helpful for anyone who needs a quick reference guide and the color scheme makes it user friendly for people of all ages. The games are a fun way for people to learn and self-teach themselves technique while making it fun. The included metronome is a great perk and it's easy to use and adjust. Great job creating this app!
Amazing App
by Ebdnekek on 2019/06/19 02:46
I’ve been playing guitar for almost half a year and I can’t explain how helpful this app is. Its multitude of settings, tools, games, and songs makes this app great. The metronome has come in handy many times with slowing down a song and increasing the bpm every time I feel comfortable with it. I would 100% recommend this app to people looking to start using guitar because of its accessibility and usefulness for free, and I would recommend it for more advanced players if you’re willing to pay a dollar or two for better settings. Amazing App.
Good App

I highly recommend it. I got a guitar 5 days ago, and I used this apps games. It's $7 for all the levels in the game but it's worth it. In my opinion, he games are the easiest way to learn the chords, and each level has different chords in it. The games also tell you if you're doing the chord right which is nice to have. I prefer this app over the fingering chart book that my dad gave me! It's a good app that makes guitars easier to learn. Another thing to note is that you can also learn the bass, the ukulele, and both acoustic and electric guitars using this app.
Great for beginners

I just started learning how to play guitar and this app helps so much! Don’t have the time to find and use a tutor in person so I’ve been YouTubing songs and practicing when I can. Not only does it save you the money from buying a tuner, if you come across a chord you aren’t comfortable with or don’t know or maybe just want to see the other ways to play it, there’s a section just for chords. I enjoy this app and will be using it far into the future. Thank you to all the people who spent their time making this amazing tool!
AMAZING FAST AND ACCURATE
by Katniss57 on 2019/01/16 17:59
I used to not want to play my guitar because tuning it was such a pain, then I got this app and now it’s SO fast! Ill be with people and I’ll tune my guitar with this app then they go “woah that was fast” 10/10 recommend. I’m not an advanced guitar player though so idk if they have this or if I just couldn’t find it but I’ve seen people talk about tuning the strings beyond just standard tuning and I couldn’t find that without having to pay for it on here so that’s unfortunate but it’s a great app overall. (Behold the longest run on sentence of all time)
GREAT, but I still have some ideas
by Kira.crystal on 2017/09/25 20:09
Read a different review if you want to know all the good the bugs about this app because they cover them all. I just wanted to make a suggestion. It is already so, so useful, but it would be even more useful if there was an option to play the learning games without a time limit so that the user could just practice accuracy if they are not ready for accuracy AND speed yet. A feature that tells you what chord/note you are playing would also be helpful if you want to play a chord/note and then check if it is what you meant to play.
Extremely recommended!

Basically before I downloaded GuitarTuna I was looking for an app to tune my ukulele because I lost my other one. As I looked all the apps I downloaded charged money. But when I downloaded GuitarTuna I could tune my ukulele with no prob! There was no ads, or things telling me to buy stuff. There is a premium mode where you can pay put it toatally optional. My uke sounds perfectly tuned and this app does not jg work for uke but it also does with Guitar and I believe acoustic! Anyways to sum it all up I believe this is the best tuning app yet!
Only 4 because...
by Blitz766 on 2019/09/29 06:12
The pro version has a monthly fee. That’s a little ridiculous. For that I can (and will) go buy a standard 6 string tuner for less than a years cost for this app. That being said, if you have a 12 string, a bass, a mandolin, or any other stringed instrument, or multiple of those, very decent app but there are others out there without a recurring fee. If you don’t mind two bucks a month it’s WELL worth it. So, what you get for the subscription is pretty awesome. Then again the same could be said for an actual guitar tuner (device). For which you pay only once.
Thank you!

In the last 55 years or so, Ive used every kind of tuner on the market and ended up thinking the Snark was the best of them all. The love affair lasted until I went to a picnic and sat down with a couple of friends to play a little. Dead battery, no Snark. I downloaded your app and haven’t looked back. We always have our phones in our pockets, so instant access to perfect tuning. Ever see a used guitar for sale in a shop that you can’t really tell anything about because every kid in the store has “tuned” it? No problem now. Thanks! Pap Danger
Very reliable tuner
by theNewPaul on 2020/02/08 21:18
This is a great app! Very easy to use and very reliable, if you are just starting out, you can take a big worry off your mind, by getting in tune quickly and easily with this app. You will enjoy your guitar playing more if you are playing in tune, and you will be much more likely to stick with it. Very important! This is one case where the technology improves things in a significant way. I also have friends who play guitar professionally, and use this app right before a gig! Highly recommended!
Good but one flaw
by Pointe_up on 2019/01/27 23:30
I just recently got a ukulele, and I’ve been looking for an app that would help me tune quicker than by ear. I found this app and I was like jackpot. I got into it and it tuned my ukulele really well, and then I noticed the game feature. I was like, cool! So got on there and realized that there wasn’t a ukulele option for the games!! Maybe there is and I just can’t find it, but I can’t find a way to get it to change to ukulele!! If you give an option to tune a ukulele, then give an option to do games as a ukulele!! I’m a little bit frustrated, but other than that it’s a really good tuner!!

This app is amazing. It tunes guitars much faster then a clip tuner... but it still ends of sounding the same!!! I got back from a two month trip the other day, and this is the first time I’ve played guitar since because it was too big to bring. It took 27 minutes to tune because it was so out of tune, and at first I was irritated with the app, but I was looking through my photo app, watched a video of me playing “ode to joy” a few weeks before I left in that trip, and I realized, it WAS out of tune! This app is amazing, and I 100% reccomend.

IM PLAYING THE FREAKING CHORD AND ITS NOT WORKING/SHOWING UP ON THE GAME !!!😡🤬

by Casey__Games on 2020/11/19 13:34
This tuner is great as a standard tuner but you have ya for other tunings.

8 string tunings
by DemiLords on 2020/11/10 23:49
What about 8 string and 9 string tuning? I know it’s not popular... but that’s an inconvenience to 8 and 9string guitar users. Maybe we’re not included for a reason.
Why I like this app
by meow 🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈 on 2020/11/10 23:28
I like this app because it provides great games and it tunes my instrument.
No landscape orientation support
by Asher Hawthorne on 2020/11/10 23:22
I love this app, but I’ve noticed it seems to get more and more bloated over time while basic features such as landscape orientation support are ignored. I’ll gladly change this review once landscape support has been added.

by Mikespeace on 2020/11/06 08:28
I use this app a lot.

Over priced
by DigiZombis on 2020/11/03 18:05
GuitarTuna is possibly the best mobile app tuner that I’ve used, however; they require a monthly subscription for tunings outside of standard tuning which is a serious ripoff over time. Until they move to a pay-once model I cannot support this.
Rock out
by Nicholas Leonardo on 2020/11/03 17:57

5 stars EXCEPT
by Caseys875001 on 2020/11/03 05:07
I’m really not sure how every review doesn’t mentioned this, but the app plays a confirmation “ding” when a string is in tune which the microphone picks up and causes a spike in the tone reader! It’s a super annoying function that should just be removed. I have to turn my phone’s sound off when I tune my guitar. Edit: there is an option to turn this off! 5 stars

I used this app for years without any problems whatsoever, but as of a couple days ago it won’t let me tune my bass anymore so now I’m done with it, there are a million other apps like this, just use those ones, not this.
Amazing

Fantastic app
Have to pay to do anything other than tune

It used to be a good app but now you have to pay for pretty much everything you should have it as a totally fee free app and I’ll change my review

Solid straightforward tuning app. Not many frills. Just gets the job done and does it right.

Definitely surpassed expectations, and way faster and better then manually tuning it, but I wish I wasn’t bombarded with ads for the full version, and I know there is only so far you can go, but I wish it was more accurate. Thanks

Really useful but there’s one problem

I downloaded to this to tune my Violin for Orchestra class which helps a lot but when I tune my G-String, it keeps thinking I’m playing the A-String saying that the A-String is low. When I click on the G icon, I play G but works for a bit but then again it says I’m not playing that note. I’m not sure if that was understandable but could you possibly fix it?
Eh

I love this app but upset to know now you have to subscribe to buy different tunings rather than just buying it once and having it. Like it once was. Very disappointed

I tried to tune my violin on this and now my e string broke and it went as high it could be and it still was at -74 and when something is very low it would say it’s to high
It’s good!

Great tuner, but $5 a month for “premium” tunings is insane, and gives me serious doubts about the company who makes this app. Bad judgment there, people.

I love this app!
by Alyssa P. J. on 2018/06/07 06:38
This app has been amazing!
Great for any level guitarist
by Sputnik Stan on 2018/02/17 01:28
I have played guitar for over 20 years.
Solid Tuner
by thebanjitarninja on 2018/10/08 03:41
Lemme start with the one flaw: WAY too many ads for Yousician.

Works very well
by SevinStorey on 2018/04/09 03:11
As a young boy (in my early 20’s) I picked up my first hand me down flat top and bought a chord chart poster from Walmart and self taught myself how to strum chords enough to eventually start playing parties and small bars.

A Breeze

Good App
by CatFun182 on 2017/03/18 00:58
I highly recommend it.
