No customer support
by Justtrynagetfreecredits on 2019/12/12 22:17
I can’t reset my password and I’ve been waiting over two hours for a response from someone about this. Why is there not simply a link to reset and change it?
Absolute Garbage
by brewkob on 2019/12/12 21:32
I’ve used this app for the last several years only out of necessity, but felt I should finally give my opinion here. Whoever wrote it should be ashamed. If you have 2FA enabled, you cannot change your email address using this app. Once you go to the Confirmations page, the change email screen cannot be retrieved. Extremely infuriating details like that constantly hinder doing anything useful on here other than actually purchasing content.
Terrible
by aco803 on 2019/12/11 23:44
Honestly steam is the WORST they give you market restrictions and trade holds for 15-30 days at a time. And they don’t even have a support number. For a platform with this many players I expect MUCH better support then what they give, there steam replies are the same every time and they probably copy and paste them. I don’t recommend EVER using steam because you probably won’t be able to spend YOUR money that you added to your steam wallet.
Created for a specific audience.
by My name is lost on 2019/12/11 18:47
This app isn’t for people who want to do everything steam related on their phone. This app is obviously for people who want to manage steam in a way outside of their pc. This is a secondary way to access steam and is not meant to be used as a primary way to navigate steam. Don’t expect this app to do everything and more of what steam does on your desktop, because that isn’t what a was made for. That being said it does a great job at doing what it’s supposed to do. I great way to ACCESS you account and VIEW what your account tells you. If you want to buy a game for your computer go to the actual steam application. If you don’t have a steam account what are you doin here. Go make one on your computer where you are going to play the actual games.

Idk what’s happening but it’s not letting me make a account
Slow and ugly.
by BongMitzvah on 2019/12/07 08:05
Steam has pretty much forced this app onto us if we want to keep our accounts secure. Not only is that a terrible practice but the app itself is slow and unresponsive. I am on an iphone XS and there should be no issues running this steam app. Not to mention how awful the user interface is for mobile users. If I could give this app a -5 stars I would gladly do so.

Needs more work
by Tomkay1082 on 2019/12/04 10:23
It’s nice to be able to chat with buddies on your friends list and browse store from your phone. However it still needs some work. The videos are very buggy(most of time it doesn’t work), and i can’t watch streams. Also sometimes the confirmation bugs out. hasn’t happened lately though. I’ll change my rating if fix is implemented.
iOS pay
by CallMeJay-_ on 2019/12/04 05:15
You should add the iOS pay option because I wanted to buy geometry on steam for my computer but I have the money on my phone, that’s why I got this app is because it thought I could buy with the iOS pay😔 please add option
Not Great
by MadMusic26 on 2019/12/02 16:23
It is convenient to have a way of checking the Steam store from your phone and the mobile authentication is a helpful feature, but that is where the positives end. Despite being an app made for accessing the store on mobile devices, it’s easy to see that they put little to no effort into converting the store for mobile use. Navigation is difficult, often words and buttons are too small to use (you end up clicking things you never meant to click because the screen is too crowded). The app is ALWAYS crashing and lags like nobody’s business. I have used the app for a few years and have yet to see any significant changes to performance or design, so I’m not sure if Valve is even maintaining it. In fact the only reason I’m writing a review at all is because I’m hoping someone will take these low reviews into consideration and make some real changes to the app that improve performance and ease of use. The one thing I can say is when you’re using the app you can tell it’s Steam you’re on; the interface is so similar, but again that’s not exactly a good thing when you optimize something for mobile use. I really hope they focus on a more mobile friendly design in the future.
Literally counterproductive

It asks me to log in every time the app closes
by Rell7thirty on 2019/11/30 05:06
Even when I don’t close it, and just open another app, it will log me out and I’ll have to retype my entire log in info all over again. It’s become an annoyance to say the least. Fix that and this will be a 5 star app
Nothing You Can't Really Do Via Website
by Rooster Tim on 2019/11/29 22:36
The developers of this app need to get with the times already. There's very little modern optimization for today's phones and user standards. After reading reviews from 2+ years ago, this is still a problem. It's clunky. It took me a few minutes to figure out the cart is in a submenu on the side and not on the top right. I almost thought you could only add items to the cart and had to buy on the computer or from the website itself. Come on, already! Don't use the app, don't waste your phone's battery. Unless you want a good laugh at how bad such a major game store can do so poorly with an app of their own, just use the website.
Cannot play games
by JJJake111 on 2019/11/29 15:48
I just downloaded the app on my iPad. Looks nice, but the “Play Now” button does not work. I can click as much I want, but nothing happens. I reinstalled the app, but I still cannot get any of my games to start. So basically, this app is useful because I cannot play any games - which is the only reason I downloaded the app in the first place. Ugh.
Problems at a Glance
by missmeggy15 on 2019/11/28 17:59
One cannot create an account. After downloading Steam for the first time, I noticed your 2.5 star review. Why a terrible rating for a huge and popular game service software? Turns out Valve must have a lot of UI problems for Steam’s app. I notice this immediately from reading reviews. Perhaps Valve cares much more about Steam’s PC presence? Apparently so, because you must go there first to create an account, then you can use the Steam app. With many of these issues from the poor attention to your UI and poor UX quality, why even make an app.
Can’t do anything without crashing
by AstralDarkstar on 2019/11/27 23:46
I’m surprised this app even loads. I tried leaving a reason when requesting a refund, and it crashes. I tried leaving a review for a game, and it crashes. It needs better support. It seems to mainly have issues with a keyboard, but I’m using stock ios keyboard.

One of the most useless apps I’ve ever used.
This is terrible
by hdhsjjdbshs on 2019/11/21 02:12
I like steam and I use it a lot, but this app is just awful. It makes me log back in 90% of the time I open it up and the chat rarely works it always says it’s “offline” in the middle of a conversation with someone or just doesn’t let me start talking to them at all, and I know my WiFi is okay, but this stupid chat doesn’t work worth a crap
It accomplishes what it needs to
by Floormat1000 on 2019/11/20 18:24
It’s a little buggy and the UI is kinda hopelessly out of date, but it’s main purpose is two factor authentication, which it does well enough. Could use an update to the chat system, but people usually use discoed anyways

by Jordan5667891 on 2019/11/17 17:49
The app works, but that doesn’t mean it’s good. The GUI is nowhere near user-friendly and the whole thing is basically a glorified web-browser.

by Ma3ple0814 on 2019/11/14 20:30
This was from a recent update of steam because it hasn’t been like this a month ago. The search bar for finding certain friends in the friends list has completely disappeared. It’s a great app but that needs to be fixed!
Just use the mobile website, it does everything better than this app
by murdur1 on 2019/11/13 06:20
Title. The mobile site looks and navigates faster and more smoothly than this dedicated app, at least on an iPhone 6’s Safari. The mobile site still has 2-factor authentication, and the interface is almost identical, except where it’s a little more helpful. This app, however, is the clunkiest and most outdated-feeling thing on my phone, and is honestly a pitiful offering for an otherwise extremely user-friendly resource like Steam.

Logs you out constantly. Then when you try to log in, says your password is wrong. I even changed my password, still said it was wrong.
Meh, pretty good I guess.
by Some Guy... IDK... on 2019/11/12 14:01
It’s pretty good for most of the steam stuff you might like to do from mobile, but it can be quite buggy sometimes. Those problems doesn’t last too long though, at least most of the time. I just came here after getting a bug of the app telling me that my own inventory was private and I could therefore not view it even though I was signed into the account. But overall, pretty useful. Would recommend for those who need to access steam while away from home.
Constantly Need to Enter Login Data
by StonewallHackson on 2019/11/10 18:18
I like some of the app functions. Mainly I like when I get notifications of an item on my wishlist goes on sale. However, when I click the notification to go to the app and see what wishlist items are discounted that day, I always have to re-enter my login information. It’s really annoying. My desktop steam app doesn’t need this and no other app on my phone needs this, so I’m not sure why steam on my phone does.
I am starting to get annoyed.
by Moore Renovations on 2019/11/10 15:23
The app keeps logging me out and my friends keep trading me things. I get annoyed when I have to wait 7 days because this bug keeps logging me out. It’s not an impersonator or someone using my account. I would of lost some items. I never told my user or pass out to anyone. So, something is wrong. Please. Fix it.
a nice steam app.

Suggestion
by bluumtn on 2019/11/09 05:06
I think that the app works without any problems, but I hope that Valve can make an update and change the way that the Steam App looks because the new Steam Chat app looks better and similar to the UI of Steam, so I think that’s what they should do with the Steam App. Side note: I think Valve mentioned about updating this app to have more security features or something like that so cannot wait to see that. Also the reason why I am giving a 4 star instead of 5 is because of the UI. I was thinking about giving 3 stars but that would be unfair in my opinion.
asks for Steam Guard number when signing into Steam Guard??
by Baltigoe on 2019/11/08 21:56
got a new phone and now it’s asking for a steam guard code when logging into the app so it’s impossible to use. can’t disable steam guard on my account either bc it’s not sending me confirmation link emails so there’s nothing i can do

Useless
by ctman91 on 2019/11/06 19:52
The app is completely useless. I’d rather log in on my computer every time rather than deal with this. You can’t do anything from it. It seems that they ported everything DIRECTLY from PC Steam, including the buttons to press so you can’t even use them

This app only succeeded to fully Upset and stress me
by Gremlin NYC on 2019/11/02 15:53
I spent two days just trying to sign in with the first thing it says being. Too many failed attempts on my network, try again later. I tried again 12 hours later the next afternoon and same issue even after waiting and changing my password. I managed to successfully sign in ON MY COMPUTER AT HOME NOT THE APP. The app is not worth any time at all and I couldn’t buy the game I wanted when it was on sale and all it did was restrict my information and access to my own account. I also made attempts for steam support which was them saying “Do it yourself” in a nutshell. Love steam but this app is not worth using in my personal opinion.

Unacceptable quality from a company of this caliber
by Mutat3 on 2019/10/29 01:09
Spend some time and money and refine your mobile app, and desktop app for that matter. There are no excuses for the blatant bugginess from a tech company such as valve. I see the appeal of valves competitors, valve sleeps on quality where others could thrive.
The worst UI possible
by naujaka1 on 2019/10/28 22:13
There’s a section for “Confirmations” I don’t think I’ve ever used, a disturbingly bland layout, and the worst part is probably the fact that you can’t even access your wishlist from the menu, one of the main things one would want from an app attached to an account in the first place. Who made this?

Wishlist
by caverks on 2019/10/27 21:29
Would like it to be much easier to access my steam wishlist. Currently it takes 3 taps upon opening the app, and the 3rd tap is a small bit of text at the end of my user profile. This is despite it being one of the most frequent things I use it for (besides Steam Guard). Also, most recent crash was fixed, but were a little disingenuous in the change-log. “Some users” meant basically all iOS 13 users.

Usable, Functional, the Best Version So Far
by En4cer on 2019/10/27 08:52
This review is for update 2.0.17 - the friend tab is broken. It crashes every time I tap the friend tab, which means the chat feature doesn't work. Don't download this update if you want to chat in the app. I'm using latest iOS on iPhone 11. Edit: Version 2.0.18 fixed the friend tab bug. You can now view your friends list and chat. Also, Steam Mobile Authenticator now properly sends code notifications in iOS without going into the app. Overall, the Steam Mobile App functions as it should.

Latest Update Breaks App (Fixed 11/26/19)
by nightmaresiege on 2019/10/27 03:57
Update 11/26: Contacted the Valve team via support site and they stated they were aware and have now fixed this issue. Overall the app has a ways to go but functional for what it is. —- Version 2.0.17 Will no longer start on iOS 13.1.3. This could have dire consequences for folks who rely on the app for multi factor authentication. Hold off on updating until Valve corrects this issue. Hoping for a hot fix ASAP and will update this review.

by D.N. Lee on 2019/10/27 00:06
I have Steam Guard and I’m worried that one day I’ll have to re-login onto my account, but the app itself will not open. I’ve tried restarting my phone, uninstalling and reinstalling it, but it won’t work. Plus the Design of the app is waaaay out of date. Prior to the app not being able to open, it served its use by checking the store, friends list, Steam Guard, and my game library.

This app won’t even open. Don’t use it even if your life depended on it... oh wait! You can’t log in without it. If your app doesn’t work, don’t make it a requirement to log in.
Great app for checking the Steam store..
by Mbrogz3000 on 2017/07/02 14:24
This is a good functional app which I've been using since it's release. Once you get used to the somewhat clunky GUI, it's very good at tracking the store sale of the day as well as the big sales, and your library. I don't use it for any other deeper functions or communicating with friends or anything else, so I don't know whether all the additional features work. I did try remotely installing a game after purchase, and I know for a fact my pc was turned on and had Steam running...but the game install request simply did not queue up in the Downloads area on the PC. That's first world software problem though... the store purchases work fine and quickly, which is the important part. My only suggestion I have is to please please please add 'swipe back' browsing gestures. It's annoying that the back button must still be used while browsing the store all this time later as iPhone processing power effectively doubles each year. We don't need pinch turn or any other fancy gestures which no one uses...we need reliable 'swipe back' though.
Only good for tracking sales and 2FA
by Goldmaaaaan on 2019/10/08 11:15
It provides the most barebones feature of being able to provide 2 factor authentication for your account and to check sales. Every single other function of this app is unbearable and in many cases unusable. Try to search a game and you’re given a wrapper of the desktop webpage search, which is hilariously clumsy when you have to use your fingers on a mobile app. Every other company has figured this out but Valve, with their billions, haven’t hired someone to design a proper search page within the app. I currently have 3 notifications in the Steam app, which will apparently never go away unless I uninstall it. One is for a missed message, but no matter how many times you read that message or reply to that person or refresh, that notification is there, forever. I also have 2 comments on a review I left, but for the app to load it it is to go through the login process again for some reason, which has never given me anything but “Failed to communicate with the server.” And this is how it’s been for years. This app looks and works the exact same way it did when I first downloaded it in 2014. I’ve given up expecting Valve to invest any tiny amount of time in making this app remotely usable for anything but tracking sales and for login authentication.
Not Great
by MadMusic26 on 2019/12/02 16:23
It is convenient to have a way of checking the Steam store from your phone and the mobile authentication is a helpful feature, but that is where the positives end.
Needs a lot of fixing
by Tanner Jones 73 on 2019/10/08 20:59
Don’t get me wrong by the review, I love playing on steam. But the fact that trading cannot be done without having this app is infuriating. For those that don’t know, trading, unless you have this app, takes about 2 weeks for items to arrive for both parties. That’s pretty outrageous. But the app itself is incredibly Non-user friendly. Buttons taking multiple clicks just to work, strange layout, that sort of thing. But trading can be one of the worst things to deal with. It would be so much better if it didn’t force you to log into the app to confirm a trade for 1 item. Plus there’s signing people out for no apparent reason, which forces them to reset the steam security, which then forces you back into trading holding, for a much shorter time, but you still have to wait. They decide that just signing in at points restarts the steam security. It’s just a pain to use. Please valve, fix this app. First thing should be to make the app more user friendly. Then focus on more specialized areas, like fixing trading, something like that. Either that or revamp the trading system to make it less of a hassle to deal with. Just a few suggestions but as the title implies, it needs plenty of fixes
Functional but Disappointingly Absent Continued Support
by y4rn on 2019/02/15 14:40
This app allows you to do the majority of the things that you'd want to do when interacting with friends or the store (and a few other things). But the clunky UI has only felt worse and worse over time due to a complete lack of updates over the last few years. Yes, it's not *that* different from the mobile version of the store, but it's even fallen behind that in some ways (why does reviewing my wishlist require so many steps?! The mobile site has a button for it in the main menu!). Reviewing one's library (I say reviewing because there's no ability to manage/categorize your games at all <- major gripe) is a huge pain, and has more than once driven me to not even bother using the app, favoring instead to just wait to check something until I'm back at my desktop. I want to expect better (in so far as the user experience is concerned) from Valve, but perhaps that's no longer reasonable, given how things have been trending over the last several years.
Good! One Slight Problem.....
by #HashTagMe on 2018/12/30 17:13
This app in general is good! I love it in every way. I could do a rant against the haters using all my knowledge. There is one thing.... it’s not much of a problem. I would like to see it fixed though because, I don’t think it would take very long to fix. Changing your profile pick is impossible. You’ll click “Edit Profile”, then you can edit it. However, when you go down to change your profile pick, it says “Choose/Pick File” and “Upload File” next to that. You could go to google/a search web, save an image, but if you go and click choose file, nothing happens. Nothing pops up or anything. It’s not a super big problem, but I wow old like to see it fixed. Anyways, this is a really good app in general! I would rate this 4 stars but since the small problem I stated was well, small, I give this app a big fat 5 stars! Hope you fix this small problem! If you can’t, I guess that’s ok. -Willow aka djbroomstick
Technical Issues
by NotTakenUsername123454321 on 2017/03/28 21:26
I downloaded the app 3 days ago to remove the automatic hold for items listed on the steam market. Download went well, app worked great, once I attempted to setup the mobile Authenticator I pressed the "back" option on the upper tab because the codes weren't loading (don't do this) and once I tried to go back it wouldn't let me because I had already authorized a device. So I de -authorize all my devices through the steam computer application, sign out of the mobile app and sign back in and sign up for steam guard. I log into the app again and it's working this time, however I realize I'm now blocked for 15 days FOR EVERYTHING ON THE STEAM MARKET! Reading on the steam help page there is no way around this 15 day hold. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS! Please give more specific instructions about de-authorizing devices and the consequences of doing so and remove the "back" (>) tab on the mobile guard section as to not lock yourself out. 15 days because I reauthorized the same device is crazy. Please explain the codes automatically appear on your device and you don't have to de-authorize to get these codes. Please explain how and what the codes are and when you enter them.
Great for browsing, but don't turn off authenticator
by microspace38 on 2017/08/27 21:59
The Steam app is pretty good overall, maybe a bit annoying sometimes, but it work well. Except for one thing: I accidentally turned off the authenticator, and then I re activated it. No big deal, right? Well, now, I have to wait 15 DAYS to be able to sell things again. I can understand having to do that when you first connect your account to the app, but, if you run into my situation, it can be quite a hassle if you want to sell some things. I can understand that Valve wants to make things more secure, but the way they've designed this, it is extremely annoying. Aside from this flaw, it's a pretty good app. Again, just make sure you don't turn off your authenticator on accident, or you'll be screaming at your mobile device!
Terrible Customer Experience
by Teem Dodger on 2016/12/31 17:55
Basically, all I wanted to do was to sell the useless cards that have accumulated in my Steam inventory. So, I pick an item I want to sell, click about four buttons to confirm that I want to sell it, and then have to log in to my email to confirm that I want to sell some card for 5 cents. Job done, right? Well, no. Now the 5 cent card is on hold, and to "remove the need for placing a market item on hold," Steam tells me I should use the Mobile Authenticator. What's that? Well, it's the mobile app. So, I download the app, authenticate IT through my email, search online for where the "Mobile Authenticator" is in the app (the name in the app is "Steam Guard," not "Mobile Authenticator") and the items are STILL on hold. Apparently I have to keep this app on my phone for 7 days before I have the privilege of selling a useless 5 cent card. No thanks. I am done with this. Maybe just let me sell this useless junk in the Steam program on my computer? I have no need for a Steam app taking up space on my phone. I'm going to think twice before buying anything on Steam thanks to this customer service experience.
Bad Reviews are User Error
by Gamma Lead on 2017/12/31 01:55
I usually don't bother reviewing unless an app does something exceptional or horrendous. This app, while not the most polished, definitely does not deserve the rating it has. I look at the reviews, and the bad ones, half are due to self-admitted user error, half are about someone bemoaning the need for account security. I got the app and used it to make an account and look up, scrutinize, and then purchase a game before I even had Steam on my computer. I have had no issues with it from that starting point or ever since. I am downloading this again on a spare device due to some technical difficulties not related to the app, and am appalled that its rating is so low solely because people lacking the ability to navigate an app or because they want less security for their account. Complain to steam support or the forms, don't rate a workable app poorly due to your own incompetence.
App needs an overhaul
by CDiAKing on 2018/09/17 03:35
Like most PC gamers, Steam is indispensable to my life. However, the app needs a lot of work. For far too long it has been plagued by the lack of a proper ‘back’ button, which means that when you are simply browsing the store and navigating through pages, the back button just relaunches the last page you were on, rather than returning you to your place. This is aggravating when flipping through sale items or DLC content, and it’s effectively just like browsing the store through a browser window. The UI is also slow and just not polished enough in general. It seems odd for such a wealthy company to have such a poorly implemented app, which has shown little improvement over the years. Other features work well for the most part, like chatting with friends and Steam Guard. The biggest downside for me is the store experience, which is in need of a major overhaul. Hopefully some day soon we will see an improvement to the in-app store experience.
Outdated, slow, and full of bugs.
by SchneiderNicholas on 2018/02/10 08:46
Unfortunately, the app needs some serious updating. Currently, it does not fit the screen size of hardly any modern phone, on the iPhone X it is especially obnoxious having an app the size of an iPhone 5 screen. In addition, the major bugs I have found are: 1.) An odd glitch where switching between apps causes it to flash the messages and keyboard when sending or receiving. 2.) A bug where after switching back to the app it duplicates messages sent. 3.) Especially since the latest iOS and on the iPhone X, chat is offline for a good 2-7 seconds upon opening or sometimes switching back to it or turning the device out of sleep. 4.) A very frequent bug where it says the other user is typing while they are not. To fix this, you have to go back to the friends list, refresh, and then go back; sometimes that doesn’t even work. Also sometimes tells other users you are typing when you are not. 5.) Not necessarily a bug but definitely something that should be changed: when you switch apps even for one second, it sets your Steam status to away. For anyone talking to someone else on the app from the computer client, it’s obnoxious. It should definitely wait at least 3-4 minutes for people who have background refresh on. 6.) You cannot change your Steam profile picture because the app will not prompt iOS for photos. Please fix the app. It’s been over a year since the last update.
Mobile Authenticator for a Reason
by Critic of the Month on 2016/06/13 05:20
For all of the people complaining about how you need to download the mobile authenticator, heres why: hacking. If your account were to get hijacked by a hacker, would you want all of your precious CSGO skins to be stolen? No. With the email authenticator, the hackers can steal your skins and verify it, as they only need to go onto chrome or yandex to long into your email and confirm everything. Would you truly want the skins which caused you to have stage 4 of skin insanity to disappear from you? No. Stop complaining and just get the thing. Its even faster than email because you only have to click two buttons, but on email you have to wait, and wait longer, and still wait, and then finally the email pops up. And then it glitches. Just get it.

Disappointed
by Taylor9990909 on 2018/06/29 18:22
For being such an enormous digital distribution platform on desktops, the steam mobile app is sorely lacking. It’s confusing, cluttered, lacks basic abilities that many apps have, like using your finger to slide across the screen to go “back” or “forward” through pages. I’m in another country right now so there’s a lot of times if I connect to different networks that it’ll just log me out of the app. Why? Why does it do this? Security? I’m logged into a phone that I have to unlock with my fingerprint, for an app that’s used to just buy games there’s no reason I’d have to log back in just because I switch networks, be like the rest of the world and keep me logged in. These are simple annoyances you can easily fix and haven’t, it makes me think you never will or that you actually consider these to be features that people want. I’ll give you some insight, it isn’t. Make your app easier to use, and not so clunky.
Pretty good but can be better...
by Winterpage14 on 2016/07/08 22:49
I don't get why people complain about lag, it works perfectly fine. Another thing people are complaining about is the mobile authenticator. I can see the point that steam tries a little to much to tell you about the authenticator but it's completely necessary. What if hacker decides to go on your steam a punt and trade or sell all of your hard earned skins for a cent each? What if you accidentally sold a skin or trading card for the wrong price and you don't want to go to the market and search the list for the item? The mobile authenticator is just another step in security so nothing is stolen. With all of these attacks on major companies, I think everyone should be thanking valve for not letting everyone's account become public. P.S. I think valve should add a way to play music from the app.
Lost another star
by Trainman42 on 2016/12/07 19:01
I did review the app a while ago, and gave it a 4 star review cuz or minor bugs. Then they didn't fix the bugs in the update (which also didn't show up on my phone), so I dropped a star for bad service. Now, I have dropped another star for more reasons. -Random offline bursts (no ability to check anything on good internet) -Push notifications failing (messages, sales, wishlists, or anything has stopped sending notifications) -Updates don't show up (or they show up but don't change the app) -Messages don't always send, duplicate, or appear in other people's chats (possibly server side issue, happens on computer too) -You can change your icon, but only once from the mobile app before it crashes and doesn't let you anymore -While in a voice call/video call with somebody on your phone, the bar causes the screen to bug (and the text bar to disappear) -Lack of group and voice chats unlike computer version Due to the fact that it's the only place I host games on and play them from, I am left with no choice but to endure the pain it brings. I did warn before that if they did not fix, stars would be dropped. This same warning is being put on, and since 1 star is the lowest, if they do not fix it by then, I will recommend others drop the ratings to legitimate ratings until it is fixed.
Music and online status
by Joe_Rowe on 2016/07/29 19:33
The app is really good but there are a few suggestions I have. The first is why can I not listen to the game soundtracks I bought on mobile devices? I think it would be another reason for people to buy soundtracks. I find that I no motivation to be on steam on my pc just to listen to music on my phone it would be a different story. Finally with the second suggestion I find it annoying that I can't change my online status on mobile like on pc. When I get off of steam on pc I always set status to offline, later I may go into steams mobile app and then get off but my status stays online so I get flooded with messages from friends say "wanna play star conflict" "Hey join meh on rust" And etc. so in conclusion it would be nice to have those basic features added.
Great app, except...
by HeyItsNami on 2017/01/12 02:19
The mobile steam app is good overall, but there are two shortcomings I couldn't overlook. First, the menu layout is dysfunctional at best. You can do most things you'd expect to be able to do through steam, but trying to find specific settings or even add a friend requires going through two or sometimes three different menu items before you find what you are looking for. My second grievance is that you can't watch any video previews for games in the app. I'm sure this is a large technical obstacle, but from what I understand, iPhone users have been having this problem for quite some time. Either the videos need to be modified so they can play, or they should just be removed from the mobile version of steam. There is no point in having meaningless video thumbnails cluttering the game's overview, let alone being the first thing you see. If these issues can be addressed, I would be more than happy to alter my review.
It’s ok... but a few things
by _gd05_ on 2018/05/29 23:34
I mean this app was created to mobile authenticate items, but it seems as the whole community has to wait 15 or 7 days because of some problem. In my opinion, steam over-protects everything and doesn’t want anyone being “hacked”. But this protection just causes bad reviews. I as well had to wait 15 days for some stupid reason. But, the only problem I had was I can’t really do anything, a lot of features are broken on here and barely work. It’s an authenticator not a mini-steam. I don’t know why the company wants to make a replica of steam for mobile devices when everyone got it just to use the “Mobile authenticator” and “Steam Guard”. Not to mention the authenticator barely lives up to its purpose. All I need to say.... A currently unsatisfied steam member, -DeLgo (dragongeorge2034)
Okay, But Nothing More
by Ponthegan on 2017/01/04 16:32
The Steam Mobile Client is a useful companion application that is unnecessarily limited. Using both the Desktop Client and the Mobile Client, I feel that there is quite a bit missing here. More than that though, it feels unnecessarily cumbersome to use as well. I don't necessarily mind using it, it is quite useful, but I never have a great experience when I do, which is quite often seeing as I don't actually have an at-home desktop computer. I would love to see an update that works to bridge the gap between the desktop client and the mobile app while making the experience smoother. I don't know when last this app has been updated, but it is in need of a facelift. I would be 100% totally okay paying for a more fleshed-out app if that's what it takes.
App is Bugged.
by xxabyssalxx on 2019/08/30 15:01
The app works as best as it could for mobile. However, if you're looking to search for things, be fully prepared for it to not actually search for multiple things half the time. Odds are, you will be waiting on the last thing you searched before needing to close the whole app and reopening it. If you want to talk to your buddies via steam chat, your best bet is to just use the pc version. There are many apps out there like discord, but if you prefer to use steam chat for a reason. Just be prepared. It sends doubles of your messages whenever you send one out. Without fail. Every single time. It's quite bothersome. For myself personally, I don't know if this is just problems I am experiencing or if everyone is. It only started acting up for me through updates. Just bear it in mind that there is a possibility of it happening too.
Broken and a pain to use
by crabby kingston on 2018/06/07 10:00
Literally it’s only use is for steam guard. LITERALLY. Everything else about this app makes me infuriated. Any trailers you try to watch don’t have sound, because it’s essentially a desktop port made by a monkey. You literally can’t view any messages, friend requests, or invites. the app just takes you to your friends list like some kid was working on it and he decided to finish early so he could play outside, so he decides to just route every menu option to your friends list. Guys and gals, I literally just use the browser version instead of the app for most things because this is bad. Many aspects of it are not intuitive and downright non functional, yet, I haven’t seen an update for the app in Months or years!! They are still making their $$$ and I’m enabling them by buying games but what can you do. Steam: screw you and fix your goods everyone else: have a nice day.
My one problem
by UncleRawb on 2017/04/08 19:37
I've. Den enjoying the app so far, it works for what I use it for. What I mean by that is that I'm not using it to trade skins for CS or anything, I use it to browse community guides and videos, watch my friends stream and message with them. My problem with the app is it's stream function. There is no audio when watching your friend play a game. The is a Steam function in the when the video is playing out of full screen that manages play/pause and sound. Steam automatically puts the video on mute and I cannot unmute it, the function simply doesn't work when I press the button. Its a disappointment when ur trying to watch ur friend fail playing their brand new game. Pls fix this thx
Aging poorly like an abandoned Neopet
by Noworkz on 2018/09/08 21:22
I used to be a big fan of Valve but it’s becoming increasingly harder to rely on as time goes on. I would think that a multibillion-dollar superstar like Valve would be able to invest in making their apps as high-end and as accessible to customers as possible. You’ve been talking about a UI refresh for years but still have little to show for it. It feels like the bare minimum serviceable effort, like a low priority. Valve, you have more than enough clout in the industry to hire some top-tier app developers and UI designers. The easier the app is to access, the easier it is for people to spend money on Steam so yes, this certainly affects your bottom dollar. If I’m wrong and you have an active team dedicated to updating the mobile and desktop apps then what you need to fix is your transparency. As far as we can see, nothing noteworthy has changed in a long time. -J
No love for Apple Users.
by MilkdotWhole on 2018/11/26 22:15
Not only does the MacOS client have terrible response times and UI, but it shows that the App Store does in fact have poor applications. Steam has yet to update the interface to “embrace the notch” and we now have 4 smartphones that own the notch in this past year. Two factor auth. Is simply terrible. My college uses two factor, and it’s simply a binary input. No copying numbers in small bursts of time. I understand Apple users don’t normally appeal to Valves customer base, but the reason is the lack of effort to reach to this audience. User experience is vital, and Steam does not provide this whatsoever. If Valve reads this, I suggest looking into modernizing this app. The content you own is incredible, but the way you show it needs work. Take notes from Duo mobile and other interfaces such as the App Store itself.
Why?
by The obvious truth... on 2017/05/17 18:11
I understand the reason for improved security but you shouldn't be punished for having less security… I should be able to sell stuff on the steam market without a phone app. What's worse is you can't comment on others profiles without authentication, yet I can message my steam friends who are the same people I'm trying to comment on. You can't post a community discussion either. There have been moments where I go into a steam games community page to report a bug in their bug report page but can't because of this trash. This is as bad as valves paid mods that failed. Anyone remember that? Valve needs to listen to their community more, they say try do and even say that every game is reviewed to make sure it should be on steam yet bots auto add steam games so their is no quality control and nothing is being fixed. If security is fine, don't fix it.
This app is very buggy and horrible to use on the XS Max
by EvangelosAR on 2019/05/02 03:27
The amount of times it says “chat is offline” is ridiculous. Sometimes I have to type my messages over 2 times for them to even get through. It’s just overall very buggy and they need to put more work into this since mobile authentication is such a big deal for Steam. Please optimize this app for the XS Max so it will look cleaner, and for the love of god please fix all of the chat bugs and make it more enjoyable to use when I’m away from my computer. Not only this, but compared to using the mobile website, clicking on things is noticeably slower on the app vs the mobile website. Especially when trading. There’s definitely a ton of potential on this app and I wish y’all would work on it more!
I really don’t get it...
by Phatboyjawsh on 2018/02/02 17:13
I honestly don’t get why Valve is horrible with their Steam products - such as their mobile app or Steam customer services, etc. People pay good money for things online and sometimes there are issues, yet Steam seems to be the worst when it comes to solving them. It’s as if they have a “better luck next time” policy. Anyways, aside from their horrible customer service, now their app is failing too! It’s been at least half a year now that I’ve encountered the same bug on this app - where it doesn’t show which friends are in game. It’ll simply just say they’re online, away, busy, or offline. They still haven’t fixed it?? I’m sure I’m not the only one getting this issue either. What is the matter with them?? How are they still a company when they seem to be the laziest out there? I don’t get it..
Extremely Aggrivating Messaging Problem
by Boibobiboviboovibobobojdjsjsjs on 2018/09/03 18:57
The steam app worked perfectly previous to getting my new IPhone 8+ however now when I’m messaging people on steam the chat will frequently go offline when I’m obviously connected to the internet and have no problem loading things. When the error occurs I’ll have to restart the app several times in order to be able to actually send the message to someone. Also sometimes it will appear to be working and I’ll type a long, well thought out message just to click send and see that nothing gets sent and my entire message disappears, leaving me extremely frustrated and often leading to me just dropping the whole message. Please resolve this problem as I do spend a lot of time on the mobile app mostly for the purpose of messaging people.
What
by Lava Lamp Blue on 2017/08/04 03:12
I downloaded this app only so I wouldn't have to wait the 15 days to sell things. After setting up the security thing, the app froze, restarting the app and my phone didn't work, so I reinstalled it. I had to log in again, which I couldn't do because I needed my mobile verification, which I couldn't get because I wasn't logged in yet. So I had to get rid of mobile verification, sign in by verifying my email, then get the mobile verification again, only to have the app keep freezing again. And from other reviews, it turns out I still need to wait 7 days to sell things with the app even if it worked, which it doesn't. Maybe if valve spent as much effort as it does forcing us to get the app in order to sell things on the market as it did making the app usable, it wouldn't have 2.5 stars.
Lot of Bad Reviews Based on User Errror
by Dcast89 on 2017/05/01 00:04
This is a good app that's easy to navigate. Some parts of it involve the need to scroll or zoom more than you should in an app but it's still functional (it's sort of like browsing a mobile version of the Steam website on Safari more than an app). I use the market for trades and buys and mobile authenticator. I don't have any of the problems that other users are writing about but I will admit there's a learning curve for these systems (not iOS specific learning curve, just the Steam ecosystem in general). I would recommend heading to support forums and learning the ropes a bit but I don't see specific issues with this app.
Possible removal of features?
by Matic01 on 2018/10/12 16:27
I don’t use the steam app outside of the Authenticator and browsing for new games. I can get over the buggy nature of the UI as it isn’t what the company was originally making. But I used to be able to install games remotely provided I had a computer logged in. As of the last update(I’m unsure when that was since I payed no mind to it at the time) I’m unable to install games even from my library. Personally this felt like a sorely needed feature since I’m sure just about everyone would rather start the download remotely and come back to their computer later on with it completed and ready to play. Not sure if this was axed completely or is intended to come back later but at least for me I feel this app was gutted.
I LOVE THIS APP!
by JakeRedBlade on 2018/06/03 20:02
All the bad reviews are nonsense, this is a very helpful app and considering it has no ads and no iap it’s very good, everyone out there reading this please note that this app may not be the best due to the fact Valve pays €60 a month to keep this app on app store and they get no profit they are being extremely kind! Btw I have no bugs, I use this app on iPhone 4s, no issues, iPhone 5s, no issues. And the well known pc version I have experienced no bugs altough I’m opted for Steam betas. Valve is paying for nothing, they don’t have to do it, and they are doing it for you guys. So have some respect and give 5 stars
They will not help you once they have your money
by Krisa on 2017/12/17 00:47
I downloaded the app so I could buy a game. I downloaded the game but can’t play it without going through the app. Which would be fine if the app let me in. It keeps telling me my password is wrong, I go through the steps to change it and it still won’t let me in. I can get no online help because you have to log in to ask your question. I’ve left pleading message on the support team on Twitter only to be ignored. I’d say screw it but I paid for my game and want access to it. I feel as though I’ve gone through all my options. I have no doubt no one from the company reads these reviews but maybe I can stop it from happening to someone else. So not worth your time and money for a company that will ignore you the moment they get your money.
Needs improvement
by SnoBorder4Life on 2017/04/14 11:51
Good for basic uses, browsing the store, seeing what friends are up to. But for certain things it just doesn't work. My main issue is that syncing between the app and my desktop client is horrible. When I left for work this morning GTA 5 had about an hour left, so I'd say well over 70% of the download was complete. I went to check it's progress on the app just now and it said 2% complete. Checking the progress of my downloads and starting new ones away from home (works sometimes) is an important feature of this app for me. If that's gets fixed I'd probably use the app more and leave a better review.
Struggle to chat with steam friends
by [AS]_Princess on 2018/09/07 06:07
I have this app mostly to see who is online and to chat about games on steam, however, I have to type and send the same message multiple times in order to be sent. For some reason clicking “send” 1 time is not enough. So I pretty much click send, steam disappears my message without sending it, then J rewrite, click send, and same cycle keeps happening. Also, even though I may be online chatting, every time i open a different app (multitask on the phone) it tells the person i’m chatting that i’m now offline which is pretty annoying.. so every time I go back to the app it says i’m online and when i open another app even though i’m going back and forth in a conversation it says i’m offline.
Terrible Experience
by ChristianMedia on 2017/01/30 11:36
Recently I tried to sell some things on the community market. On my computer it has the normal message, log into the mobile authenticator or whatever to confirm the listing. So all day I try to confirm these items and it doesn't work saying to reload again. I decide to reinstall the app thinking it may work now. When prompted to log in, it gives me an option about if I want to disable the app and use email. That would be much easier so I finally do that and after it emails and texts me 2 different codes, it doesn't let me log in to the authenticator/the app. So now I am stuck waiting 15 days to trade and about a week or so for the market holds. I have no idea why it is so complicated to perform simple tasks on steam. I'm quite fed up with all this unnecessary security.
You get a crash! And you get a crash!
by Extinctconcept on 2018/10/02 23:47
Would be nice if this thing didn’t crash every two minutes. The UI is also clunky as all hell want to view images or videos from a game how about a horizontal scroll bar with no arrows that you have to hop you pressed and slid just right without accidentally launching a video that may or may not actually play audio then promptly locking up and crashing again. This thing just needs to be completely scrapped and rebuilt. Viewing steam in your phones web browser is more useful than this app. The only benefit this app has is the mobile Authenticator just to add an extra layer of security to your steam account. And even that is just barely passable at best. Valve you need to go back to the drawing board and figure out how to make a mobile app.
Useful, but not efficient.
by Hpl123 on 2019/09/19 11:28
This app is useful for checking market, communicating with friends etc but not anything beyond that. Good to see profile, leave comments but things happen very slowly. You have to wait for a while for a page to load, or you can exit and reopen the app for it to load faster. Sometimes a bug occurs where it says you aren't logged in. Overall, I am glad this app exists but I can't say I really recommend it as a good alternative to the computer version of steam. I only use it for steam things when I am not around my computer. Devs, I hope you can fix some of the performance issues on this mobile app and make it much easier to access things like on desktop.
Needs total overhaul
by Jack Seibert on 2019/01/28 05:05
As of this post the Steam iOS app was last updated TWO YEARS AGO. The desktop client has undergone several major revisions and desktop chat was completely overhauled, bringing in much-needed modern features to the world’s biggest gaming platform. Where are my QoL changes on mobile? It’s little more than a front end for the store and an Authenticator. URLs in chat are not even hyperlinked, I have to copy and paste them into a real browser. I have “new item” notifications that I can’t clear and I have to sign in every time I open the app, even if I am actively receiving notifications from it. This is disgraceful. The only reason this is getting two stars is because it’s at least not actively broken.
Pointless app
by DSC_Seatac on 2017/12/08 18:46
You can view your cart but not your wishlist. Who on earth would keep anything in their cart? You can add things to your wishlist but then can’t view it. Does everything on the planet have to be another social media platform? I just want to play games. Maybe I’m old. I just wanted to be able to browse my wishlist and decide what to buy next. This is a half-assed attempt at a mobile version of Steam, just to be able to say “we did it.” They obviously didn't put any effort into it and they haven’t even updated it in over a year. This app has well earned its majority of one-star reviews.
Base-line requirements
by Lord Garmadon ,:{( on 2018/02/19 19:40
Steam is fine on my computer, sometimes I struggle with things but I figure things out with enough time and practice. This really just throws it in a hole. Now nothing against the valve Corp, this review is solely on the app, not the developers. The app is good for buying things and maybe browsing some things for games when you are bored or want to keep up-to-date, and it helps when i want to buy something (bought AC origins over the sale). BUT it logs me off constantly, I’ve had to go to my vault, copy, paste, and redo the same process about 3 times a day in order to check stuff. It really wasn’t designed for a phone, buttons are small, letters are small, etc. my advice: stick to your desktop.
Facilitates Scammers, No Customer Support!
by Mary Spagnuolo on 2019/10/21 22:10
A couple of months ago, I bought a Steam gift card and was allowed no access to my games even after I created an account and immediately emailed support from the Steam mobile site. I read about their two hour policy and was within that limit, with still no access to the game I needed. It's been months later and I NEVER heard from Steam, I've only downloaded the mobile app to leave this review. Go with Twitch or another gaming app. Steam seems to be hiding behind a bunch of loopholes and likes to facilitate people scamming for gift cards or game access. If the amount I was scammed for was higher, I would sue them. Horrible company, horrible platform, horrible support, horrible app!
Profile Picture Issue
by johnmocool on 2016/11/08 15:46
I'd never had this problem until a few months ago, and I now know why. Whenever I tap "choose file" in edit profile, nothing happens. I've tried doing this repeatedly, and I don't know if it's from iOS 10, or what. The problem is that steam is not asking for access to my photos. So then I have to login to my account on my web browser to the same exact page, where I CAN change it. Please fix this, it's really getting on my nerves. Otherwise, this app is really helpful.
Where am I? None of this makes sense.
by mrjacobweber on 2017/12/13 09:18
Completely unintuitive interface. I have absolutely no idea where my wish list is, which I used to check often. Should it not be under store? Also, social integration seems to be categorized as more important than the actual store because...why? Why is Store lost in the middle of the choices when it should be at the top? Why is my wishlist not prioritized and one to two button presses away so I can give you my money? Wait, just found my Wishlist under Games in a drop down bar. Once again, why? Why can’t I swipe through the game’s preview photos and videos? There's so much potential for this mobile store to be as addictive as any other shopping app, why squander it? Guess I'll be sticking to the website for now. :/
Slow and needs improvement
by Talal Kahlout on 2016/08/04 17:56
I use the Steam app to manage my account on the go, or maybe browse the catalog for games when I'm bored. But this is getting extremely annoying. When you try to tap on something, it's as terrible as trying to tap on something on Safari or a mobile web browser. It's basically like you're on Safari. And it is SLOW. Plus, there are not many features that make the mobile version of Steam unique. There are so many things you can do: add availability for playable games on Steam mobile, (I don't mean games like GTA V I mean like Steam games designed for mobile. You could also add like a game chat to use chat on games. So basically this app is garbage. I don't recommend it.
Lag, Red tape, Lag, Lag
by saforce on 2016/06/25 01:08
It would be wonderful if the random decision maker of the day at Valve would decide to optimize the confirmation process. • I can see exactly what the confirmation is for from the list. • I do not want to view more detail about the action I am forced to confirm (yes, the very same one I initiated not two seconds before. Yes, that one.) • Why does the system insist that I must confirm every single action even when they occur within the same span of time? If you're really unsure that I'm the one initiating the action how about confirming my session rather than tediously grilling me over every last item I put on the market? • Time is money and free time is a precious treasure to those of us in the working class. Stop wasting my time on this laggy confirmation malarkey.
Reviews for the Wrong
by Niiugf on 2018/06/05 23:13
I’ve seen bad apps, they’re a thing I get it. What I don’t get is why people rate badly and leave poor reviews because of their inconveniences as a human being. So what you have to wait time to use? So what it adds a security check (which literally in the end, helps you)? What’s even dumber is that all you have to do to get rid of the security check is to click that little button that says “Remember my password.” What about having to wait? Just wait it! It’s literally the only time you have to wait!

Not Great
by MadMusic26 on 2019/12/02 16:23
It is convenient to have a way of checking the Steam store from your phone and the mobile authentication is a helpful feature, but that is where the positives end.

With many of these issues from the poor attention to your UI and poor UX quality, why even make an app.

by AstralDarkstar on 2019/11/27 23:46
I’m surprised this app even loads. I tried leaving a reason when requesting a refund, and it crashes. I tried leaving a review for a game, and it crashes. It needs better support. It seems to mainly have issues with a keyboard, but I’m using stock ios keyboard.

I like steam and I use it a lot, but this app is just awful. It makes me log back in 90% of the time I open it up and the chat rarely works it always says it’s “offline” in the middle of a conversation with someone or just doesn’t let me start talking to them at all, and I know my WiFi is okay, but this stupid chat doesn’t work worth a crap

by Floormat1000 on 2019/11/20 18:24
It’s a little buggy and the UI is kinda hopelessly out of date, but it’s main purpose is two factor authentication, which it does well enough. Could use an update to the chat system, but people usually use discoed anyways

The app keeps logging me out and my friends keep trading me things. I get annoyed when I have to wait 7 days because this bug keeps logging me out. It’s not an impersonator or someone using my account. I would of lost some items. I never told my user or pass out to anyone. So, something is wrong. Please. Fix it.
a nice steam app.

by bluumtn on 2019/11/09 05:06
I think that the app works without any problems, but I hope that Valve can make an update and change the way that the Steam App looks because the new Steam Chat app looks better and similar to the UI of Steam, so I think that’s what they should do with the Steam App.

Useless
by ctman91 on 2019/11/06 19:52
The app is completely useless.

App Won’t Open

Just get it.

by My name is lost on 2019/12/11 18:47
This app isn’t for people who want to do everything steam related on their phone.
P.S. I think valve should add a way to play music from the app.

by Trainman42 on 2016/12/07 19:01
I did review the app a while ago, and gave it a 4 star review cuz or minor bugs.
