No way to email or chat in app. Phone only. 100% of the randomly generated calls are handled in the Philippines. Filipino call center not equipped to handle anything outside a rigid set of guidelines and procedures. They refuse to transfer to state side agent.

Navigation of the app is horrible. Future flight shown on screen but no checkin button during check in period. Went to menu and selected checkin but not listed in future flight! Had to type in reservation code. So clunky and unintuitive. Come on United you should have this down to a science. Apps how people manage travel and you are a major player in the travel business so it’s just bad business.

Why is everyone giving this 5 stars? It didn’t scan my passport and I had to go from email to the App Store to the app to a website to the app only to step through unnecessary questions and then be told I would be asked to verify my seat assignment (which I paid for an upgrade) and my luggage, neither of which happened. I’d give it one star except it theoretically checked me in.

Horrible service We planned a special trip to Hawaii.And made it to LA with ten minutes to spare as we reached the gate we could see them close the door. They left ten minutes early. This is our second horrible experience with United. When we reached customer service the line was all the way out in the airport. So hear I stand. My wife and I are United explorer card visa customers. They gave credits last time to everyone on the flight last time except us. Do not get their card. We had to ask to get two free bags. It’s a rip off. Any other airline has to be better. Maybe we will only miss one day of our trip.

This is ridiculous. I was noticed that my flight was cancelled but no other flight is available. I called UA for help twice but no one answered my call. I waited more than 40 minutes in each call. Does UA has customer service?

The app its self works well but United is officially the worst airline ever. In my last 4 flights with them, three have been delayed, two of them by more that 2 hours. I’m deleting the app after my flight. And I’m never flying United again. I’ll use Southwest, American and Delta instead.

This was the 15th time I had to attempt to check in before it finally worked! Ridiculous! Luckily I’m persistent and kept trying or I would have had to do it all at the airport.

15 hours in a airport.... thanks to untied not having enough pilots 🤦🏽‍♂️ #UA1639 cheap airline can’t even provide a meal voucher for its customers. first and last time I fly United... I knew once I heard about the incident that happened at O’Hare airport in Chicago when they forcefully removed passenger.... Ridiculous F.Y.I United agents in Houston are rude... pay them more. I lost 65K miles last November and now, as a UA stepchild, it’s as if I never existed. The app won’t accept my known traveler number so, I won’t have global entry. All these years of choosing UA are not working out so well.

Cancelled flights Newark to Portland. But We had to get home for our kids so we ended up renting a car but you wouldn’t get our checked bags for us. So we’re told they would be sent through to our final destination. I called baggage helpline to confirm and they said my checked bag was never scanned and can’t find it!!! But it was! I printed bag tags at kiosk and the attendant scanned it. Now I need my medication in my bag!!! I need my bag!!! Please call me 2075779746

It’s annoying that it is so difficult to check in for flights within 24 hours of a current actively checked-in flight. Data Services Unavailable message happens too frequently—several times per week regardless of being on LTE or WiFi. Yes, yes, I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the app.

United Airlines is a terrible airline. Completely unreliable in maintaining flight schedules. The airline’s delayed and cancelled flights are equaled only by its complete failure to provide any meaningful customer service to its legion of negatively affected travelers. It is laughable that this airline has a frequent flier program. What good are the miles if you can’t get anywhere on the airline? The program would only be valuable if one’s goal and points reward were based on time stranded in a terminal after completion of the first leg of travel. Sign me up for the United Frequently Stranded at the Terminal hours program. That program would rock... at least at United.

UNITED IS THE WORST AIRLINE IN THE SKIES! Flight delayed two hours, yet app STILL says it’s ontime, even though it’s past that time. Counter person told me she couldn’t check because she’s “not logged in” and proceeded to return to her personal conversation with the other guy who “was logged in” but overwhelmed while she distracted him. I asked how we’re supposed to keep track of this flight if the computer, screens, and apps are all wrong. An employee told me “I dunno. Just stand around and check.” Now THAT’S service.

This is absolutely ridiculous, when you buy a basic ticket...they truly mean, basic. They ding you for everything, including any carry on. You can’t even carry on an overhead if you get a basic ticket. You think you’re getting a good deal, but you’re actually being ripped off. Customer service? No such thing, they don’t care they just want your money. Be smart, and fly with Alaska!!!! I will never fly with United again!

United is the least user friendly app of the airlines. It compares to Spirit or Frontier but charges as a competitor to Delta or American, when it is simply not in the same league. I cannot update my seat preference or save much of my information. It is a terrible user experience.

UA texted my at 10:30 pm June 16 and notified me of this cancellation. No rerouting was offered but I was to rebook the entire reservation . Airports within a 125+ miles were listed but I cannot drive from Fort Myers. I was in hold on the CS customer (ha ha) phone line for 1 hr and 47 minutes. NEVER ANSWERED .I see now there was a connection flight available out of Chicago to get me home that I could have taken today. I am stuck in Ft Myers until tomorrow’s flight to Houston and onto Tulsa. This website was absolutely useless. I want to be compensated for this wasted day when I needed to be back in Tulsa !!!

They are focused 100% on the bottom line with absolutely no respect on how their actions affect their customers. None. We booked great flights for a family trip to the Caribbean 5 months in advance and ended totally shafted - on red eyes we paid a ton of air miles to avoid - ended up taking 3 days to get there and 3 days to get back - unthinkable. Time to change credit cards and reward airlines - I’m done with this pathetic Company.

The first time I have flown United in years because of poor operations. Have them another shot and we have been sitting waiting for our flight to leave for an hour with no movement in sight. Never ever again will I trust this airline. I have flown Delta and Southwest for over four years now and never had any issues.

When attempting to check in using app, it is required to scan passports for international flight. When i tried to scan them the screen goes dark, even when using camera light, failed to capture image. Without using light can not even see the passport. Long story short, could not use on line check in. Waste of time.

We were delayed in Newark due to a disabled aircraft. We were in line for five hours to find out what you were going to do with us. We went to Denver where we had to wait an additional six hours for a connecting flight to Orange Country. We would have liked to be able to wait in a more comfortable location other than terminal 23 for the six hours. Your customer service rates less than one star.

Why doesn’t this airline just make its basic economy fare $30 more expensive instead of making it difficult for passengers to do the check-in process. If this airline wants more money than what it is getting from passengers, why not say so in its ticket price! Southwest is more reasonable and more transparent at the very beginning with its fare. United makes you feel it is in dire need of money. I felt I was tricked with its seemingly lower posted ticket price but then you get a notice that you must check in your full carry-on luggage and if you don’t check in your luggage online you will have to check it in manually and at another terminal. That’s what’s stated on its website when I checked in online for a Houston flight from Midway. I was forced to check my luggage in online and pay $30. Tsk, tsk. Should a company really make you feel it has to earn extra money the tricky way?

With its CEO saying they can’t help people be happy, UAL has eroded its service levels to exceptionally low unless you are premier platinum or higher. I used to be 1k and Pt. Now, a lowly silver, I get very poor service including >10 minute hold times, sardine class seats and exorbitant change fees. Way to go United - another (un)satisfied customers.

Tried to check in on line for flights including an international flight on my laptop. Could not complete because passport verification was needed. Downloaded and used the United app to check-in for international travel. Was able to scan passports with my iphone and complete the process in just a few minutes. Worked great!

I was on a flight to Melbourne from LAX on May 28th, leaving at 10:40pm. I got the best service I’ve ever gotten from a flight attendant named Fujimi Grasso. She was amazing, friendly and attentive. Took me 15+ tries to get one of many perfectly correctly readable scans eventually verified - it’s an unforgivable use of passengers time . There shall be an option to enter passports online. And what should do those who have to travel with more than one passport??? Very poor customer service by enforcing bad app - United shall have several alternatives available

I appreciate the investment United has made in the app. There is only one bug left that gets in my way. If you have a large amount of activity on your account the app will timeout when loading it. Please optimize the delivery of the data on the backend so the app doesn’t think the request timed out.

🙁🙁🙁🙁 ☹️☹️☹️ ☹️☹️ 😤 UA trip from HSV on Monday 6/10 started w/delay and rebook to 6/11. 0655 am flat from HSV to FAI had maintenance problem from start. Gate agents made no announcement for pax until 0820 hrs. I saw problems mounting — 1 gate agent trying to answer questions of customers w/22 people in line for more than 55 mins—why not extra help from ticketing? and then I switched to 0855 am flt to IAD—-started w/25 min departure delay. Arrived late to IAD and walked directly to departing ORD flt with zero time to spare—boarded and pushed back within 15 mins—but pilot announces “flow” problem into ORD and so can’t take off until at least 1:25 pm—so sat on tarmac until 1:20 pm and then took off. Arrive ORD late and FAI aircraft late arriving. Ready to board and then toilet maintenance problem—-delay of nearly an hour. Checked online bag status to find my bag (with formal clothes for 3 star military event) still sitting in IAD. Asked gate agent for assistance—told no help available until I get to FAI and file report ! Baggage report FAI10956M filed upon late arrival FAI. Told my bag would be delivered as soon as arrival to FAI. I’m washing my clothes in hotel sink now at Ft Greeley, AK...for 3 star ceremony today. Bag lost and no one can find it! Customer has to call repeatedly to get status—no calls from UA on bag status ☹️. Heading back to HSV later today— with bag MIA still. I can only imagine how poor my return trip will be w/UA. Your service leaves a lot to be desired. I missed my connection from IAD to ORD because your flight from Manchester, NH was over 1 hour late. When I deplaned I read your text message that you booked me on a flight to Newark connecting to Chicago on Thursday morning June 13th. I called your customer service number to request an early flight on June 13th to Chicago because I had a critical business appointment. Your customer service person told me there no early morning flights to Chicago and told me to talk to the customer service agents in the airport. After waiting in line for almost two hours I found out there was a 5:45 am flight out of Reagan and a 8:15 am flight out of IAD. This misinformation is untenable and you all need to do a better job. Your on time performance stinks and is one of the reasons you lost my past loyalty and this incident just confirmed why you will never regain it. I will also post this poor service episode on social media. Willie Carter

Waiting on flight UA4223 from Houston to Jackson. Flight delayed 2 hrs. Now waiting to board until the flight attendant shows up. According to person at the gate, she’s been in Housotn for the last 3 hrs, now no one can find her. Unacceptable.

This app does not work well. It kept cancelling out of the check in process after I read some additional documentation (ie looked at the country codes for my contact). Then had to restart - timed out - had to restart. Reviews baggage - had to restart. Additionally the document scanning does not work hardly at all.

Showed different airport boarding gate to my wife than to me. Showed different updates of delayed schedule for the two of us. Needs to show route to where the user is supposed to be. Like go right and down the concourse 150 feet to gate D19. Only the TSA FOLKS KNEW where to look for the PRE check in the app screen. For unique TSA requirements like putting wallet and cell phone in our baggage and must remove shoes; it’d nice if the app said what the local unique policies are. For going through TSA it’d be nice to have the app only show one passenger to TSA at a time; then scroll left to show the next one. It’d be nice if the QR code would show up as the sleep screen when the user puts their mobile phone to sleep while going through the boarding gates. TOUGH TO navigate to the boarding pass if you’re not a UNITED mileage plus member. UNITED needs to let user’s other than those using the company’s mileage plus have a way to login and save their flight confirmation. It’s a bear to get back to the flight confirmation code and QRC.

I have been using it for about three years now. Very convenient, but it has one maddening flaw - it cannot remember your MileagePlus information when a new version is released. App updates are pretty frequent, and it is a *royal pain* having to remember that password *again*. Face ID for the MileagePlus login would nice.

We booked through Expedia. After Expedia changed our flight time twice we managed to miss our flight by 10 minutes thinking we were two hours early. After spending over two hours on the phone with Expedia they originally planned to rebook our $640 flight for an additional $1500 but then said we would have to wait until tomorrow because the last seats were just sold. We were upset because we found one way tickets while we were on hold for $400 but they said we could not book them because they would cancel our return trip without refund if we did because we did not make our original flight. As a last ditch effort we stopped by the United desk. The lovely woman who assisted us was receptive to our situation and found a flight at another airport. She said there would be NO charge to get us on that flight in two hours and was helpful in advising us to take a shuttle that runs between the two airports. That enabled us to retain our round trip flight and return to the airport that we parked at. So United got us taken care of for a $72 shuttle and same day flight when Expedia was completely unhelpful and inefficient. Thank you to the staff at United BWI!

2 hour Flight delayed out of MCO to IAH. Landed in IAH with 20 mins to catch connecting flight. Had to SPRINT to the gate and guess what...they close the doors right when I get there. Now wouldn't they hold the flight for an additional mins to wait? United doesn't seem to have a problem delaying their flights but they cant make a reasonable request to hold a connection when the plane has landed with time to give the passenger some time to get to the plane? We landed in terminal c and I had to run to terminal e. I made it but was denied. The two employees working the gate did not care and did not offer any comfort or explanation. They just said to go to customer service as they were on their cell phones. In the meantime I had to walk a country mile to customer service where there was a line. Luckily there was a couple in front of me they ran into the issue and just happened to look at their mobile app to see that they had already been rebooked. So I did the same and luckily I was. Now why didnt the crew from MCO tell us this? Why didnt the two other gals working the gate at IAH tell us that? Poor customer service! I travel quite a bit and will avoid flying United. Had booked a round trip from EWR to Delhi. While the flight to Delhi was smooth, the return flight (August 11) was delayed by over 18 hours. After haggling with a United representative on the phone for over 45mins I was told that I could only be given a flight back option from Mumbai if I made my own arrangements to fly to Mumbai. I needed to get back to Newark by Sunday and did not have many options, I was finally given an option to fly via Munich with about a 4-5hours layover in Munich. While I my original booking was on ‘Premium Economy’ my booking on Lufthansa was done on a regular coach class and was given a middle seat to travel overnight. At Munich I went to the Miles and More lounge and presented my United Club pass (knowing that they are part of Star Alliance), however, they said that the United Club pass is not acceptable at their lounges. So I had to sit around the Munich airport for the next 4-5hours. Overall, was a painful experience and I expected better service for a Premium Gold member.

Have tried to add reservation multiple times ... keeps disappearing. On first opportunity I said “don’t add to travel wallet” - as it’s my first time using the app and I had no idea what the travel while was. I thought they might be referring to Apple wallet, which I’ve had bad experience with in the past, and so do not use for flight information. Ever since then, no matter what I do, turn travel wallet saving on off etc., whenever I add that reservation, it appears for short time on home screen then disappears. If an app can’t manage my reservations - no other features really matter. Recommend that they study behavior of Alaska Airlines app - that is a really really good airline app!! Also adding more u-ex designers who have empathy for “the common person” and can conduct usability research would go a long way. Next I clicked on the “support” link in the App Store - so I could report this bug so they could fix it ... and I was taken to a marketing page telling me about the app’s features ... a non mobile optimized page ... hard to read on my phone :-) ... with no place to report a bug. I’m sure United does not mean to convey the message that their marketing materials are a higher priority than receiving customer feedback about bugs ... but the current approach is in danger of customers receiving that message ...

Tried using the in flight entertainment on my IPhone on two separate trips to no avail. I’m an IT Engineer with a PhD in computer science so I’d like to think I know a few things about making stuff work however I tried almost the entire flight to make the movies play. I finally asked the flight attendants what the secret was and neither of them knew. One checked the system to make sure it was on and then came back to tell me that someone in first class had it working on their iPad. Well congratulations to them up in first class! Maybe that’s the secret us regular passengers back in coach would like to be entertained as well. I travel weekly for my job and all my apps and devices are all fully updated so I’m thinking this is just a crappy app/system. The trailers play without issue just to tease you about the fantastic movie you are about to watch but then like a kid who’s parent tells them “no you can’t have that ice cream” all your hopes and dreams are shattered into a million pieces. My recommendation for the best results with this app: Delete it and fly on American instead where the planes are newer and their stuff works as it should, Otherwise the only entertainment you are going to get is spending your whole flight trying to get this app to load your movie.

Access to my ‘ticket’ and flight information is so quickly is awesome! Wow, I remember having to go down to a ticket office(30 min) and spend an hour having someone else tell what they thought my flight options were (60min) and then having to print a ticket and keep up with it(never) and then strategically place the ticket where I can present it to 4 different people so I can make it through the airport including checking in for flight (60min+) then security, gate agent, and flight attendant all while stopping to check the board for which gate (15min) and any updates and heaven forbid I have a connecting flight and another flight coupon! Only complaint is I seem to have to closedown the app to get it to update added reservations - even if I made the reservation with the app. But maybe that is because I have gotten so used to having the information right away! It actually seems like the app, through notifications, gets the updated flight information quicker than the gate agents and flight crews! Makes me feel like a seasoned traveler - Well Done! Keep those updates coming.

I’ve been using the app since about September. Worked great. Like everything about it. The last 2-3 weeks it seems to not work correctly. I had flights canceled then rescheduled and seem not to be able to use the app. When the flight is done it should get off the app. No need to see my flight from yesterday. I’m now trying to check in and it shows my flights from yesterday and today, even the canceled one. It needs to clear out. I have shut the app down cleared it from history. Sign in and same thing. How am I supposed to check on flights this way. I then tried to put in my reservation number and name and have to tap the screen several times and wait. I know it’s not my phone because if I tap “search” once it tells me I have to put a reservation number and name. Duh! I’m trying but it won’t let me unless I tap my screen 20-50 times. Then I have to go through the same tapping for my name. Very frustrating. This needs to be fixed asap. I gave it a 4 star because when it’s working I really don’t have any complaints. I like it better than American Airlines app.

What goodness does an app add if the “state of the art” Entertainment technology is useless when the plane WiFi does not work? Many upset customers, Bose and iPhones ready, asked the attendants if this was common. “It happens all the time”. Coast-to-Coast without Entertainment. What good is it to be able to “manage” your miles when United uses de PQM miles scam to credit miles (got less than 30% of my true miles credited, it will take me years to build enough miles to get a domestic free ticket)? But it won’t happen because I avoid United with passion and even cancelled their credit card. What’s the point? My problem with United is United, not the app. United has forgotten its customer focus and to reward loyalty. Forget even the flying experience, just take a European carrier and compare. United apps would be really useful if they were built on a platform of customer service, clearly what United is not about anymore. So I avoid United at all costs, gone to better carriers with more inferior apps.

I flew United for the first time in a while and I found that, compared to other airline apps, their flight statuses were updated the most frequently/accurately. It told me about delays before the gate clerk even knew. As you could’ve guessed, this unfortunately means that I was on a delayed flight which caused me to miss my connection on the last flight out of Newark for the night. The app let me know right away when my connection took off, preventing the hassle of running to the gate to check, and immediately presented me with options for next steps. It provided the next United flight out of Newark and guaranteed me a seat, while also showing me flights out of nearby airports, like LaGuardia and JFK, in order to more accurately assess options and get to my destination as soon as possible. Thank you so much for alleviating the stress in a tough situation! I’ve never booked a flight using the app, so I cannot speak on that, but my experience was great.

I haven’t flown in 15 years, so I decided to take United after hearing good things about them. My experience was less than enjoyable. After deplaning in Houston and being unfamiliar with airport, I discovered my my next flight was leaving from a gate clear across the airport, so rushing through to arrive at my gate on time, I discovered the plane was delayed for over an hour due to bad weather in NJ. Then, they call us to board only to find out that there was a problem and we would be delayed another 15 minutes, not a huge deal. However, these delays continued for another 2 1/2 hours! We were given ridiculous excuses, one after the other, without a sincere apology or the truth. Perhaps the airline thought we should all understand and comply without a genuine explanation or compensation. They did allow us to watch a movie for free, but still charged for alcohol. When you have friends or family waiting for you at your final destination and it turns out to be 3:00 am, I think the responsibility lies with United to be sure everything is taken care of before asking passengers to board.

This is our second experience with United and our LAST. Over a year ago we went to Hawaii. It took over an hour to get drinks and another hour to get food. By the time they got to us there was limited food available. This was an 8 hour flight and they never came back around for snacks or drinks. Fast forward over a year...another disastrous flight. I called to give them my TSA pre check and they told me it was entered. When we went through security, it was not on there. Could have gone back to the counter but decided to proceed. We flew out of Nashville and got to the airport an hour early. No problem. We went to the airport an hour early for our return flight in Springfield MO and were told we should have been there two hours before and we would not be able to get on our flight. Mind you this is a very small airport. The family in front of us had the EXACT same problem and were having to get a flight out the next day. It took us an HOUR to just get up to the ticket counter to rebook our flight. The manager NEVER came over and addressed the issue. We usually fly SOUTHWEST and NEVER have had any of these issues. We will choose any other option besides United going forward.

There is nothing worse than to have a two hour delay when trying to make your connection. However, United manages to take it from bad to worse by not updating the flight status from “on time” for over an hour AFTER the scheduled departure time. The insult to injury is when you ask United Representative, Sheldon, why nothing has been posted or notification rec’d on United app, you get a response of “because I made an announcement over the speaker.” Yes, he was serious, and no, he had no intention of actually helping us. At this stage it is without question that we would not make our connection in SFO. Sheldon then asks with all sincerity, “Do you want to change you connecting flight?” What is truly sad is that the other 100+ people on the flight were left in the dark for hours. We only knew about the length of delay because we were in contact with someone on the incoming flight from SFO which was the same plane we would be departing on. Anyone who travels often is well aware that delays happen; however, there is no reason not to provide adequate communication or assistance to customers. It is unfortunate that individuals, as well as their employers, are not held accountable.

When I went to get my boarding pass at the desk, the service agent told me that I could only carry one bag on board because I had “basic economy“. When I explained to her that I had been flying with two bags on “basic economy“ for the last year she said “that’s not possible“ she said that I needed to pay $50 to have my ticket upgraded and I had to call central reservations and “it would take quite a long time“. Since I knew she was wrong, I went into my ultra nice guy mode and suggested she check a little further. She then went to her computer and behold, she discovered that I was a Premier holder. She also said that I was in boarding group 2 which meant that I could take two bags on board. She was not apologetic in anyway. She was quite huffy with me and not typical of my experience with United employees. I’m not putting her name in here because I don’t want to single her out but it was a not typical united behavior.

This app is good for one thing, making you miss your flight. It will repeatedly fail to update you on flight changes, in my case it told me the incorrect gate, causing me to almost miss my flight. Unfortunately, United has also caused the most unforgivingly miserable and unprofessional flights of my life. My flight was supposed leave at 10:36pm, the time is important. Got delayed till 1:30am. I waited until 1:30, than I received the notice that the flight was delayed until 10:35 in the morning. The best part, 12 hours is a full refund. But because it's at 10:35 not 10:36, that one minute makes sure I don't get a refund. The result? Cozying up on the floor of LAX all night. The customer service will be sure to make your experience even more miserable. You can enjoy waiting for over an hour, to than be fed misinformation about upcoming flights, claiming there were no more flights headed to my destination. However, all morning I watched as people in the wait list slipped on to more flights, flights that customer service claimed didn’t exist. The bottom line is, this app is an impressive reflection of what flying United is like. You shouldn’t need this app, because you shouldn’t fly United.

This has been the worst trip ever. Began on 5/27. Flight cancellation due to weather. Not United’s fault but it cost us a weeks parking as we had to drive 2 hrs to another airport to fly out at 6am on ANOTHER airline to make our scheduled preop appt for shoulder replacement surgery. United was gracious about rebooking our return flight to the new airport that our car was at (2 hrs from home) and then our return was delayed and we could not make the connection to get home. They rebooked us but we were stuck in Washington Dulles airport for 6 hrs. My husband needed to get his shoulder iced with this therapeutic machine which required ice. We asked if we could sit in the United Lounge and get ice and privacy and was told by both Customer Care and United Lounge that we could not be compensated with privilege to the lounge. Privilege? I felt terrible for my husband but we set him up in a United waiting area with the least population and a restaurant brought us some ice and we got him hooked up to the iceman (by this time he was in excruciating pain) and I took plenty of pictures for the community to see how well United treats it’s passengers. Wasn’t it United who killed the dog by putting it in an overhead bin and suffocated it????
Frustrating finding flight info or progress to premier

I travel for my job, basically every week. When you have multiple flights booked, the app makes it very difficult to find the info on your later flights until your current flight has landed. You have to go into your profile and do a roundabout process in order to locate the info on your other flights, or even to check in for your return flight (which is very frustrating if you fly in/out of a city in the same day). Also, in order to see my progress towards premier, I have to click the link in the app which takes me to an external site where I enter my login info again. This is annoying bc I can’t remember my rewards number, so I end up getting locked out after multiple attempts and need to change my password. Another thing that I just noticed is annoying when trying to submit this review is that I have to enter a nickname for myself when submitting. I’ve now tried 8 iterations of my name but all have been previously taken, so apparently I cannot submit a review without a unique nickname. This is ridiculous.
Flight delay.

Our flight was delayed by two hours. We luckily had two club passes but it really should have been comped. On flight could not watch movies because my adobe player on my Apple laptop is too new so only could read what I had already downloaded. Food in club was cold and mediocre compared to our delta club experience. Definitely not worth how much a day pass would cost. Also the day passes expire which is annoying when you often do not have time to utilize the club. Overall very disappointed in my United experience. We will now have to Uber home which will cost us $80 since our daughter now can’t pick us up. Flight attendants were very nice and seats comfortable as a small positive. Other airlines use the go app making it easy to use the entertainment especially since no screens on planes anymore. You need to make it easier for your customers. Will think twice about using United in the future since this was the second trip in a row with problems and my daughter just had a bad experience with plane problems and no email about flight being cancelled. The last two times I have dealt with Agents Maria and Michele both were very helpful to me with my questions. It was a great improvement over being charged $500. Extra for the same flight. I still have not received the check for the overcharging When I called it was told to me I made two reservations. I had to go through a agent because I wanted to change the credit card United has on file. Instead I was charged on both credit cards with two different confirmations numbers but you could only print one itinerary out. The agent who helped me then was Dominick who also very helpful although he kept insisting that I made the reservations. I asked why my credit card number wasn’t changed since that was what I had called for in the beginning. I will try at the airport. In fortunately I did not get the name of the agent who issued The original two tickets.

Remember that reviews are about the App, not the Airline. Just saying. I have to give United props here because they have responded to criticism and squashed a lot of the bugs and issues when this app was first released. I am very happy with the features and the performance of the app now. I especially like the instant mileage credit once the flight segment has been completed. Remind me why it used to take 2 days? Thank you for that! I use WiFi Every flight and I’m able to log in easily. I do not use the entertainment option often so I can’t comment on that, but I am able to browse the options fairly easily. I would like to see the ability to select Airline and Non-Airline activity in the account summary section. I fly a lot and scrolling though all the flight segments to get to hotel/dining point activity is cumbersome.

My wife has been a loyal United customer for the last 35 years. When we met seven years ago she explained the reasons for that loyalty. First, they Always get her home even if a problem arises. Second, she receives economy plus status without asking, third, free baggage, and then there are the increased returns on miles accumulated. And of course the many warm smiles she has received over the years along with a level of kindness and civility not in much evidence these days on certain airlines. I have witnessed all this firsthand and my legs being much longer than the average person’s have come to appreciate the extra space United can provide for their longtime admirers. While airline profits have shrunk along with seat spaces, United still embraces the quaint notion that a smile is the shortest distance between airline employees on the front lines and their valued customers.

The single worst airline experience I have ever had in my entirety as a business field traveler. I am standing in the FAT airport and was less than 1 min behind check in time for a flight to LAX, and will be spending over 3 hours in the airport for the next flight while watching my existing flight still board! Absolutely ridiculous when I’m 10 yards from the gate for my original flight that has not even finished boarding, a supervisor will not even speak to me. I figured I would give United a try as they have many flights in my areas. So as a first experience I have not downloaded the app yet to check in, I will never ever use United Airlines ever again and will recommend they non usage to all colleagues as they are simply said irresponsible and non caring in there business practices. Simply said the worst air line experience I have ever had, I hope you see who is really impacted by your poor business practice and they are the backbone of you business the field travelers that rely on you daily! Long live Delta at least they take care of their customer.

This is by far the worst airline there is, at least now. Download the app then PAY for WiFi that doesn’t work. I’m a die hard southwest person because it’s cheap with loads of features (free checked bag!) and actually consistently friendly staff. The forced in-person check-in for basic economy is insulting, pointless, and actually hurts their own efficiency. Every time I chance it I have a terrible experience. Broken, old equipment, late/cancelled flights, rude or inexperienced staff, terrible service and weird nickel-and-diming policies. As soon as anyone comes close to some of the exclusive routes they have, this airline is doomed. Go ahead remove this review if you must but I’ll still tell everyone I know and post to social media what a terrible experience I’ve had here every time I have to do it (with work, or whatever moronic business thing that uses them still for the stupid “perks” and miles stuff; stop it, rich finance guys. Use a real airline and help everyone out by letting united die by its own knife.)

For the last day, I had been calling United Gold service attempting to switch my Wednesday flight out of CHS to SFO in light of the pending hurricane. Only one agent -Nettie -worked today to get me switched onto a CHS to SFO flight tomorrow -the LAST available seat on any flight out with hurricane Florence approaching SC. Even though the SC governor had ordered an emergency evacuation order hours ago, United had not received the official waiver and the previous aGents with whom I spoke said I would have to pay full fare in the absence of an official United notice. Nettie, on the other hand, was very proactive and grabbed that very last seat out for me- and the official waiver came through just after she completed the change. A word to United management. When the governor of the state issues an emergency alert (as he did yesterday) United should have permitted their agents to switch my flight at no charge at that time. Even today, your waiver was issued a number of hours after the release of the governor’s evacuation order that is to start at noon tomorrow . I believe that your agents should have discretion to make even an exchange in light of the tremendous amount of publicity that warned about this hurricane. I just feel lucky that Nettie was able to find that last seat for me.

After a 2 year planned trip to Europe, we completely missed our first day in Germany, which cost us over $500 of prepaid hotel and event expenses. After waiting for 8 hours in the CVG airport, our flight was cancelled due to the crew being out of hours. The attendant was very nice and set us up with a hotel (Quality Inn - really not that nice of a hotel - it was one of the few available in the area). On top of that, when we reached Germany, I received a text that 2 of my 4 bags did not make it. I only had 2 bags, so not sure what that was all about. My wife had high anxiety that our luggage was lost and we had several conversations with the German baggage people trying to figure out what was going on - adding more stress to our already frustrating experience. As it turned out, our baggage showed up. We are terrified flying back to the states - wondering if we will make it back when we are scheduled to. I’m really giving a brief description of the series of events - this was the worse flying experience I’ve ever had in my life! And I’ve been on a lot of flights over my 40 years of travel.

Nice when it works, a pain when it doesn’t. Good: nice to book and change flights, see status, see where plane is coming from. Bad: Despite background privileges, when you open app, it is never updated with status or flights ready to check in. You always have to refresh. And it is SLOW UI sometimes really frustrating, such as when you are in the airport looking for a club. It does not use your location! You have to choose find a club, ask it to use your location, then select an airport (the one you are standing in!), and then inexplicably tap again to search for a club. Links to where flight is coming from often disappear. Sometimes they are there, sometimes not. App notification badges are irritating. It wants you to dig into menus and look at notifications already reflected on flight status screen in order to clear badges. The app totally confuses novices by offering to place boarding passes on “Home Screen”. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to explain to colleagues and family members that the app is Referring to its own home screen, not the iPhone’s. No complications for the Series 4 Infograph watch faced. Delayed flights often disappear for status screen. Last year they had a serious usability bug related to boarding passes in Apple Wallet disappearing. That went unaddressed for almost a year. How long will this logout bug take to fix?

United has done a great job during my over 50 years of being a customer. My question is simple. Why was it necessary for the flight attendants to take such a strident position in opposition to Justice Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Ct. My guess is not one has ever read any of his decisions nor examined his outstanding example in inclusion. I guess their union say jump and they ask how high. The sad part is they now project to every customer who believes Justice Kavanaugh should have a fair hearing that our United Flight attendants are no different than those who would assault someone in a restaurant. Maybe a bit extreme example but will I never see your flight attendants through the same lens as I have in the past? No one could. If they wonder why passengers sometimes act the way they do. Maybe they should look in the mirror.

This app is so horrible it must be by design. Everything i have experienced is more difficult than is should be, non sensical, unintuitive, or just plain doesn't work. Perfect examples, you will be logged into the app yet you have to manually enter your frequent flyer number through a series of difficult to find links. Why would it not autopopulate in every flight on the app when you are logged in? By design. Or today i tried to find a baggage receipt that i payed for on the app so i can get reimbursed by my employer, there is a page that asks for a confirmation number and last name for the flight, even though i am logged in and my flight history is right in the app! I mean, why bother being logged in at all if nothing autopopulates and flight history doesn't work. Then after i input a confirmation number and last name that i shouldn’t have to, what does the app do? Doesn’t even work “data service unavailable”. So now i cant get reimbursed for baggage. How in any universe is that going to work for business customers like me? Hey United, DO BETTER!

On my many trips to and from DC, I have met kind caring people in many different positions of employment with United. One trip I received an upgrade and was able to give it to a WWII Veteran headed to visit a sick brother. The gate person thanked me as did every other employee on the plane. The first class flight attendants made a special effort to offer their thanks and one told me the older Veteran had asked for a beer during his flight. Coming from a military family, it is an honor for me each time I can thank a Veteran for their service and offer my seat. And thanks to the staff and the upgrades, I have had this pleasure multiple times over the years. Staff is friendly and helpful no Matter what part of the plane my seat happens to be located. I am not one of your frequent fliers, but when I do fly, it’s United. Thank you.
Engine broke, almost missed flight

The flight last week from Las Vegas to Chicago was super late. They let us all on the plane and sit there without AC in like 110 degree Vegas weather because I guess on of the engines didn’t start so they had to manually do it at the gate. They told us it’ll take a couple minutes, after 15 minutes they said it’ll take a bit longer, after more time they said they have to fill out paper work for the procedure, after that they had to let mechanics come onboard to check it, after that they told us they actually hadn’t filled out the paperwork and need to do this. I should’ve had a 1.5h minimum layover in Chicago go eat lunch before my flight to Charlotte but had to run to that flight so I never got to eat that day. I. Addition they just let everyone know they probably won’t make their flights about 20 minutes before we landed. Very sad. On the second flight, I had to sit next to a crying baby which didn’t make this experience any better. We’ll see how the flight tomorrow goes...
United fails again

About to board my last ever flight on United. I flew them exclusively for 10 years and soon after the Continental merger, their customer service and regular delays made me switch to another airline. This morning rabbit 3.5 hours before my flight I looked at my boarding pass to double check gate. Got the the airport to the security check and I couldn’t pull up my boarding pass. The app said I didn’t have a flight booked at all. I had to RUN around Denver security to the escalator upstairs, and get a b pass. Kiosk said same thing: no flight. So I asked the United agent to help. She snapped at me, grabbed my license, and tried to use it on the SAME KIOSK. Nice that she assumes User error on my part. She then mumbled something under her breath about not being the one running late. I explained that I was not late until the app denied my purchase of a ticket. That’s United. Find a way to blame your customers. Make them feel like they did something wrong by choosing their airline. I would rather have three stops in other countries than ever step foot on a United flight again.
Terrible customer service

My husband and I paid almost $700 per seat to fly from NJ to New Orleans. We purchased seats together in the emergency exit row. When we checked in before the flight, our seats had changed and were separated by 5 rows. We called and explained that we purchased seats together and were reassured that the issue was corrected. We were told by the representative that new boarding passes would be emailed to us immediately. When we checked the “new” boarding passes, we were still in different rows, and still not in the seats we purchased. The gate staff told us there was nothing they could do. When we called customer service to file a complaint, we were told there is no mechanism to do so. Additionally, we were told we had to check our carry on bags, because the cabinets were full. When we boarded the plane, all of the cabinets were open and many were half empty. Our overall experience with United’s customer service was terrible. We are extremely dissatisfied and will not be recommending their services to anyone.
United Vacations

They sent me a confirmation stating I was booked and paid for. Have a United Airlines vacations email verifying reservation number, booking number, and credit card authorization number to show it’s been paid for and I’m good to go. I show up for my flight at the airport and they tell me I don’t have a ticket n will have to “re-ticket” for $200 more than the paid price on United vacations. They said that was my only option or I would miss my flight, my vacation!!! Called United vacations and they don’t open until 8 am. My flight leaves at 5:45 AM. There is no one to help me as per the UNITED AIRLINES Supervisor AT THE AIRPORT. And to top it off they charged me an extra $50 fee to “re-ticket”. So now I wait to get to my destination and will have to call them to get this resolved. This is unprofessional and ridiculous!!!! Buyer Beware.
Don’t count on being able to watch, enjoy inflight entertainment

Like other reviewers I received an error message that I needed to have installed the most recent app update to watch free entertainment in iPad. All apps had been updated just hours before my flight. (Note: app must be installed prior to boarding unless you pay for WiFi service during flight.). The option was to watch inflight entertainment on facing seatback screen, which was small and had inferior picture quality and clarity, and has few selections. Although many selections are available, you may be unable to watch and enjoy them. Download favorite music, movies, games and books if you need something to help pass the time, especially on long transcontinental and international flights.
New Customer experience

I have grown to like United Airlines again from a few disappointing trips twenty years ago. Both customer support/ Milage Plus and flight staff have a reinvigorated attitude and truly seem to care for their customers which probably relates directly from the CEO down. On the contrary when we had issues twenty years ago we loved a different airlines that had animal pictures on the tails of the aircraft. We truly despise that airlines and only fly them if there’s no other direct flight. I find it interesting that over time two different businesses/ airlines can have a complete culture change that impacts every employees attitude about their company which translates into the different levels of customers experiences. I did rate four stars because as a new customer booking a ticket the website felt like it was having issues and forced me to sign up for mileage plus. Next Not being familiar with the site or app I was handicapped try to find and pick the upgraded economy plus seats by each other. One frustration is my large fingers don’t fit well enough into the little seat options boxes so I had to have my wife finish up from my iPhone 8plus. Keep up the great customer services it makes a huge difference and I’m happy to have United as my top choice again. Eric L

Having already checked in on line I assumed the untied app would have that information but it did not. Then had to start “check-in” process on app to be recognized. That process then required I have the confirmation # ready available which has to be found in a previous email or paper document. Also, the mileage plus number in NEVER listed, save the last three digits. WHY! Working between the online platform and United app simply lacks any cohesion or friendly interface. While online “super security” is appreciated on the large scale, it, and other factors makes all of United’s user platforms feel clunky and unwelcoming. Final example: when checking in online it was nearly impossible to add Milage Plus numbers to get credit for this flight. My wife, Theresa Klein, had to go through a paper file we keep with travel records just to locate her MP # and mine could not be located so miles will be lost unless I take the time to sort through more papers or d emails to eventually find the number for Peter Klein...SO FRUSTRATING.

I don’t fly often but I specifically booked with United thinking that because I was paying more money for this airline that I wouldn’t have to deal with all the extra charges that come with the cheaper flights on cheaper airlines. I started this United experience with a message saying that my starting flight would be delayed by two hours due to scheduling issues, this caused me to miss my connecting flight and landing at my final destination much later than expected. My second frustration with this flight experience is I get checked in and I’m told I’m not allowed a carry on and I’ll have to pay to check in my small bag. I asked and was told I was unable to just pay extra to carry my bag on. For my returning flight I called United reservations to see if I could again pay extra to carry on my bag. I was told that it would be $100 to do this! Are you kidding me? To carry on a bag it would cost me four times the amount to check in a bag! This traveling experience has been nothing but frustrating.

The flight attendants and gate agents on the arriving flight was rude and not very friendly. I left my work cell phone at the Starbucks and didn’t notice until I had boarded. We still had about 10 minutes before the scheduled take off and the Starbucks was right next to the Gate in MEM C-14. They wouldn’t let me off the plane to run get it and initially they wouldn’t get someone to check. Finally, THE PILOT said, “No, I want her to get her phone!” And they had someone check and deliver it to me. When we arrived in Houston, this same flight attendant that wouldn’t let me off the plane, announced over the loud speaker when we arrived, “Thank you to the passengers who remained seated until the seatbelt sign was turned off!” And said it rather rudely because some passengers had already unbuckled when we arrived at the gate. This was my FIRST time traveling on United (I usually travel Delta) and hopefully my LAST time traveling on United (my colleague picked this airline because it was non-stop from MEM to IAH but this was NOT a good Customer Experience!!!!!
No benefits for the basic economy

Your airline has no benefits for individuals flying basic economy. You could at least and I mean at the least have them check in one bag for free. You allow them to select their seats but you charge a fee to do that. Why do you nickel and dime the passengers who are unable to afford an expensive plane ticket. For the individuals flying above basic economy you allow them to fly you give them privilege. Why can’t fly and be like it used to be, if you were in first class you got the benefits. And second class you still got the benefits. And didn’t have to pay for your luggage and seat extra. Airlines have gotten so greedy to the point where you charge for every little thing especially those who are unable to afford anything above basic economy. I know this review will go unanswered and probably unread. Don’t be like the other airlines, care about your passengers who use your services. Don’t just throw passengers in basic economy under the bus because they can’t afford the expensive rates to fly.
Best Airline App out there

This is by far the best airline app out there. I’ve used a lot and the only one that compares is Alaska, but it’s still not as good as this one. That’s one thing United has going for them. Their tech stuff. You’re able to see the seat map, the standby list, and upgrade list. You can easily change your seat, upgrade, or track a flight. It keeps track of my reservation and if I want it to, will notify my of gate changes or delays. Sometimes the timing of the notifications is a bit off, but if you understand more about the industry, then you’ll understand this can’t be perfect. The entertainment part is great! The flight tracking option is great! What would be really cool is if you added a feature to listen into the flight deck. Like back in the day when you could plug into the seat and hear the pilots. For all of us aviation nerds, please bring that back. The only negative I’ve found is with the most recent update (April 2018), the app load time takes forever and then occasionally crashes. Whatever you did, please fix it. If it’s the image that is now in place of the blue load screen, get rid of it. It’s not needed.
Can’t change seats

I get that I paid for economy but you can’t pick your seats when you check in. I have traveled other airlines and you can pick your seats prior to checking in and or when they check in. Very frustrating that it’s not an option. Asked to change seats and they said flight was full. Get on the plane and there are several rows that didn’t even have people in it. I called right now to see if I can change seats and again person said there is no available seats to sit next to each other. Then for my connecting flight he said that I had no seat assignment if I wanted to purchase seats for that flight. I checked my boarding info and it does show that we are sitting next to each other. So I just don’t think you guys are being truthful. I will never fly your airlines again!!! And I will be sure to let my friends and family know as well. I have have flown the cheapest airlines and we have always been able to pick seats sitting with your family! BAD BUSINESS

Just tried checking in my husband who is a 1K member. App said he doesn’t have any reservation. Had to call United to have them email me his confirmation number. Since he travels a lot he often asked me to check status, change flights, check him in etc. since I have the app there doesn’t seem to be the need to look into his business emails to search for confirmation #. I do have membership number, password and am approved to speak with United. It’s very frustrating. I also had the experience of waiting at our hometown airport while checking status of his flight on app. App says flight landed while husband is telling me they are being sent to another state. Husband wanted me to book him another flight yet united kept telling me (even on phone) that his flight already landed. Grrrr he ended up renting a car, driving a few hours before having to get a hotel till morning to finish up his ride home. Oh and by the way no compensation from United!
Bad air produces severe migraines

Bad air. I am quite convinced after over 40 years of a lot of flying that when fuel conservation is in order my migraines are triggered by decreased air circulation- this happened on my last flight when we were on a weight restriction due to fuel levels. And this has happened to me 4-5 times on United. These are much worse than my everyday. These are not my usual migraines which are easily averted with simple excedrine migraine, (which is tylenol, aspirin and caffeine) but These are an”ice pick” and explosive vomiting kind. My husband is the first to notice and as an engineer and meteorologist he has a clue. Please consider this when you cut back air circulation to save fuel or what ever the reason is. These severe headaches only occur now when I’m flying or waiting in the tarmack. They require ice packs and migraine speech medication and pretty much ruin a day.

This was a booking fiasco from hell! I don’t even know where to start. It took better than two hours to book these flights. My husband and He had to book separately. His flight wasn’t available to me. Why... no good reason ...I had to pay for my luggage , even though supposedly having the United chase card it should have been free... it always was before..he got TSA pre, I did not. When I got ready to board , my pass disappeared because they had canceled my connecting flight. Never had these problems before. Although, we had paid for overseas flights another time and had issues with a seat not reclining... one of the reasons to fly business class.. booked through United...they said it wasn’t their problem, even though it was booked through them. Finally said they would give us $100 flight credit which we’ve never seen. We have promptly canceled our United chase and will try to avoid any United flights. If I could give them 0 stars, I would.

First of all I paid for an upgrade to economy plus and had to sit next to a person that plays in need of a seat and a half. I paid for extra comfort and instead was quite uncomfortable. Next - I had a small cooler that I was using as a carry on. It was empty and soft sided. The gate said I could use it as a carry on. Unfortunately the plane ran out of room for carry-ons. It was too fragile to check it - it would not make it to my final destination. I asked if someone could please find room for it and the wind flight attendant said yes they would certainly try. We were on the plane or about five minutes when I was called to the front to come get my carry-on I wasn’t even seated yet so my daughter went to talk to the flight attendants. Two of them - a big black woman and a smaller heavy set white woman both yelled at her for bringing it on and expecting the flight attendants to deal with it. We asked if they had some tape to keep it from opening if we checked it. The heavy set woman said why do you think I would have tape ? Really - what happened to customer service - and who do you flight attendants think they are yelling at a kid ???? I should bring United up on charges for abusing a minor. I have never been so disgusted in my life and I will never fly united again and I will make sure that word gets to my co-workers family and friends. Terrible airlines - most definitely not playing friendly skies.

United’s app was very confusing when I first downloaded it but I’ve gotten used to where everything is that it doesn’t bother me anymore. The latest iOS 12 version has one problem (or maybe it was intended) where the app constantly logs me out. The old version left your account up as long as you had it opened in the background. I also have to re-enable Face ID every time I log in now. I am all for more security but the idea that someone would get into my phone is much more concerning than someone going to United and buying a ticket 😊. The extra security should be done in a way that doesn’t impact my experience with the app. The log in is especially annoying because you have to also refresh the app once you are back in because none of your reservations or boarding passes or status is there by default

Hi - when I try to check in from the app link, it’s not intuitive that I have to scroll down to do when the reservation appears. The option should be visible on the first screen or when I tap the reservation to confirm. The app should know which flight I’m eligible to check in on— and it should know it’s me. Similarly, when I try to check in by opening the app (no link from my text), the app should know what flight I want when I press “check in”. Instead I’m queried for a confirmation number. I am doing this on the fly (so to speak ) and have no idea what the confirmation number is. Then I have to fumble around and find it or just give up and use paper. Very frustrating. (There are some fabulous things about your app, too, but you should get the basic stuff down pat.). Thanks for your consideration, from one of your million-mile members.

I was prompted yesterday to go on another flight with no change fee. It wasn’t obvious that the flight options were for the *following* day. I selected, realized I made a mistake, and called right away to correct. I was then on hold more than a half hour, and two agents and an hour later I received no help. All after a day when i traveled to be at a funeral. Today, when I went to check in, the message was clearer that you were looking for people to change flights. I have been a customer and mileage plus customer for decades. Also a credit card holder. I am extremely disappointed in the service and considering canceling my card, and United as airline of choice. It’s clear United dramatically overbooked flights the entire weekend, which is irresponsible from my perspective. While I was on the phone with agents last night, I could hear other agents fighting with customers like me in the background. Please try to be better to customers in the future. Thank you
App has a glitch w seat upgrade for connecting flight

I’m able to upgrade to an Economy Plus seat 24 hours before my flight for free while I’ve got Silver Premier status. Normally this works fine, either using the app on iPhone or iPad. Recently, however, I had a trip where I had to connect in Denver. I was able to upgrade on the first leg no problem. But, it wouldn’t work for the second leg (tried to make me pay for the Economy Plus seat), despite a dialogue box popping up telling me I’m able to upgrade for free! I rebooted my phone, tried multiple times, etc. I finally gave up. Was a bummer because the second leg was the longer flight. Don’t know if the problem was related to the fact that I had a connection? All other times I’ve done the upgrade was for a non-stop flight. Seems it shouldn’t matter and this is a bug that needs fixing.

UNBELIEVABLY POOR service!! Tried twice to get the airplane de-iced only to return to gate after sitting in the plane for over 3 hours on two different occasions. The first time the only person who could de-ice the plane was in bed. After another hour the de-icer guy showed up but the equipment broke TWICE!! Went back to terminal after 3.5 hours and some people arranged new flights. Passengers were told the other de-icees that were working wouldn’t de-ice our plane because corporate said they would pay for it. Overall, 7 hours sitting in the taxiway waiting for some contracted “Millionare” service company to not de-ice a damned thing!! TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. If he was there at 8 am all of this would have been avoided. And then “corporate United” denied our only option to fly anywhere while other airlines were leaving on schedule!! I want some compensation for this wasted day!!!

No way to email or chat in app. Phone only. 100% of the randomly generated calls are handled in the Philippines. Filipino call center not equipped to handle anything outside a rigid set of guidelines and procedures. They refuse to transfer to state side agent.

Navigation of the app is horrible. Future flight shown on screen but no checkin button during check in period. Went to menu and selected checkin but not listed in future flight! Had to type in reservation code. So clunky and unintuitive. Come on United you should have this down to a science. Apps how people manage travel and you are a major player in the travel business so it’s just bad business.

Why is everyone giving this 5 stars? It didn’t scan my passport and I had to go from email to the App Store to the app to a website to the app only to step through unnecessary questions and then be told I would be asked to verify my seat assignment (which I paid for an upgrade) and my luggage, neither of which happened. I’d give it one star except it theoretically checked me in.

Horrible service We planned a special trip to Hawaii.And made it to LA with ten minutes to spare as we reached the gate we could see them close the door. They left ten minutes early. This is our second horrible experience with United. When we reached customer service the line was all the way out in the airport. So hear I stand. My wife and I are United explorer card visa customers. They gave credits last time to everyone on the flight last time except us. Do not get their card. We had to ask to get two free bags. It’s a rip off. Any other airline has to be better. Maybe we will only miss one day of our trip.

The app its self works well but United is officially the worst airline ever. In my last 4 flights with them, three have been delayed, two of them by more that 2 hours. I’m deleting the app after my flight. And I’m never flying United again. I’ll use Southwest, American and Delta instead.

Cancelled flights Newark to Portland. But We had to get home for our kids so we ended up renting a car but you wouldn’t get our checked bags for us. So we’re told they would be sent through to our final destination. I called baggage helpline to confirm and they said my checked bag was never scanned and can’t find it!!! But it was! I printed bag tags at kiosk and the attendant scanned it. Now I need my medication in my bag!!! I need my bag!!! Please call me 2075779746

It’s annoying that it is so difficult to check in for flights within 24 hours of a current actively checked-in flight. Data Services Unavailable message happens too frequently—several times per week regardless of being on LTE or WiFi. Yes, yes, I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the app.

The airline’s delayed and cancelled flights are equaled only by its complete failure to provide any meaningful customer service to its legion of negatively affected travelers. It is laughable that this airline has a frequent flier program. What good are the miles if you can’t get anywhere on the airline? The program would only be valuable if one’s goal and points reward were based on time stranded in a terminal after completion of the first leg of travel. Sign me up for the United Frequently Stranded at the Terminal hours program. That program would rock... at least at United.

Counter person told me she couldn’t check because she’s “not logged in” and proceeded to return to her personal conversation with the other guy who “was logged in” but overwhelmed while she distracted him. I asked how we’re supposed to keep track of this flight if the computer, screens, and apps are all wrong. An employee told me “I dunno. Just stand around and check.” Now THAT’S service.

This is absolutely ridiculous, when you buy a basic ticket...they truly mean, basic. They ding you for everything, including any carry on. You can’t even carry on an overhead if you get a basic ticket. You think you’re getting a good deal, but you’re actually being ripped off. Customer service? No such thing, they don’t care they just want your money. Be smart, and fly with Alaska!!!! I will never fly with United again!

United is the least user friendly app of the airlines. It compares to Spirit or Frontier but charges as a competitor to Delta or American, when it is simply not in the same league. I cannot update my seat preference or save much of my information. It is a terrible user experience.

UA texted my at 10:30 pm June 16 and notified me of this cancellation. No rerouting was offered but I was to rebook the entire reservation . Airports within a 125+ miles were listed but I cannot drive from Fort Myers. I was in hold on the CS customer (ha ha) phone line for 1 hr and 47 minutes. NEVER ANSWERED .I see now there was a connection flight available out of Chicago to get me home that I could have taken today. I am stuck in Ft Myers until tomorrow’s flight to Houston and onto Tulsa. This website was absolutely useless. I want to be compensated for this wasted day when I needed to be back in Tulsa !!!

We booked great flights for a family trip to the Caribbean 5 months in advance and ended totally shafted - on red eyes we paid a ton of air miles to avoid - ended up taking 3 days to get there and 3 days to get back - unthinkable. Time to change credit cards and reward airlines - I’m done with this pathetic Company.

The first time I have flown United in years because of poor operations. Have them another shot and we have been sitting waiting for our flight to leave for an hour with no movement in sight. Never ever again will I trust this airline. I have flown Delta and Southwest for over four years now and never had any issues.

When i tried to scan them the screen goes dark, even when using camera light, failed to capture image. Without using light can not even see the passport. Long story short, could not use on line check in. Waste of time.

We were delayed in Newark due to a disabled aircraft. We were in line for five hours to find out what you were going to do with us. We went to Denver where we had to wait an additional six hours for a connecting flight to Orange Country. We would have liked to be able to wait in a more comfortable location other than terminal 23 for the six hours. Your customer service rates less than one star.

Why doesn’t this airline just make its basic economy fare $30 more expensive instead of making it difficult for passengers to do the check-in process. If this airline wants more money than what it is getting from passengers, why not say so in its ticket price! Southwest is more reasonable and more transparent at the very beginning with its fare. United makes you feel it is in dire need of money. I felt I was tricked with its seemingly lower posted ticket price but then you get a notice that you must check in your full carry-on luggage and if you don’t check in your luggage online you will have to check it in manually and at another terminal. That’s what’s stated on its website when I checked in online for a Houston flight from Midway. I was forced to check my luggage in online and pay $30. Tsk, tsk. Should a company really make you feel it has to earn extra money the tricky way?

With its CEO saying they can’t help people be happy, UAL has eroded its service levels to exceptionally low unless you are premier platinum or higher. I used to be 1k and Pt. Now, a lowly silver, I get very poor service including >10 minute hold times, sardine class seats and exorbitant change fees. Way to go United - another (un)satisfied customers.

Took me 15+ tries to get one of many perfectly correctly readable scans eventually verified - it’s an unforgivable use of passengers time . There shall be an option to enter passports online. I appreciate the investment United has made in the app. There is only one bug left that gets in my way. If you have a large amount of activity on your account the app will timeout when loading it. Please optimize the delivery of the data on the backend so the app doesn’t think the request timed out.

🙁🙁🙁🙁 ☹️☹️☹️ ☹️☹️ 😤 UA trip from HSV on Monday 6/10 started w/delay and rebook to 6/11. 0655 am flat from HSV to FAI had maintenance problem from start. Gate agents made no announcement for pax until 0820 hrs. I saw problems mounting — 1 gate agent trying to answer questions of customers w/22 people in line for more than 55 mins—why not extra help from ticketing? and then I switched to 0855 am flt to IAD—-started w/25 min departure delay. Arrived late to IAD and walked directly to departing ORD flt with zero time to spare—boarded and pushed back within 15 mins—but pilot announces “flow” problem into ORD and so can’t take off until at least 1:25 pm—so sat on tarmac until 1:20 pm and then took off. Arrive ORD late and FAI aircraft late arriving. Ready to board and then toilet maintenance problem—-delay of nearly an hour. Checked online bag status to find my bag (with formal clothes for 3 star military event) still sitting in IAD. Asked gate agent for assistance—told no help available until I get to FAI and file report ! Baggage report FAI10956M filed upon late arrival FAI. Told my bag would be delivered as soon as arrival to FAI. I’m washing my clothes in hotel sink now at Ft Greeley, AK...for 3 star ceremony today. Bag lost and no one can find it! Customer has to call repeatedly to get status—no calls from UA on bag status ☹️. Heading back to HSV later today— with bag MIA still. I can only imagine how poor my return trip will be w/UA. Your service leaves a lot to be desired. I missed my connection from IAD to ORD because your flight from Manchester, NH was over 1 hour late. When I deplaned I read your text message that you booked me on a flight to Newark connecting to Chicago on Thursday morning June 13th. I called your customer service number to request an early flight on June 13th to Chicago because I had a critical business appointment. Your customer service person told me there no early morning flights to Chicago and told me to talk to the customer service agents in the airport. After waiting in line for almost two hours I found out there was a 5:45 am flight out of Reagan and a 8:15 am flight out of IAD. This misinformation is untenable and you all need to do a better job. Your on time performance stinks and is one of the reasons you lost my past loyalty and this incident just confirmed why you will never regain it. This app does not work well. It kept cancelling out of the check in process after I read some additional documentation (ie looked at the country codes for my contact). Then had to restart - timed out - had to restart. Reviews baggage - had to restart. Additionally the document scanning does not work hardly at all.

Showed different airport boarding gate to my wife than to me. Showed different updates of delayed schedule for the two of us. Needs to show route to where the user is supposed to be. Like go right and down the concourse 150 feet to gate D19. Only the TSA FOLKS KNEW where to look for the PRE check in the app screen. For unique TSA requirements like putting wallet and cell phone in our baggage and must remove shoes; it’d nice if the app said what the local unique policies are. For going through TSA it’d be nice to have the app only show one passenger to TSA at a time; then scroll left to show the next one. It’d be nice if the QR code would show up as the sleep screen when the user puts their mobile phone to sleep while going through the boarding gates. TOUGH TO navigate to the boarding pass if you’re not a UNITED mileage plus member. UNITED needs to let user’s other than those using the company’s mileage plus have a way to login and save their flight confirmation. It’s a bear to get back to the flight confirmation code and QRC.

I have been using it for about three years now. Very convenient, but it has one maddening flaw - it cannot remember your MileagePlus information when a new version is released. App updates are pretty frequent, and it is a *royal pain* having to remember that password *again*. Face ID for the MileagePlus login would nice.

We booked through Expedia. After Expedia changed our flight time twice we managed to miss our flight by 10 minutes thinking we were two hours early. After spending over two hours on the phone with Expedia they originally planned to rebook our $640 flight for an additional $1500 but then said we would have to wait until tomorrow because the last seats were just sold. We were upset because we found one way tickets while we were on hold for $400 but they said we could not book them because they would cancel our return trip without refund if we did because we did not make our original flight. As a last ditch effort we stopped by the United desk. The lovely woman who assisted us was receptive to our situation and found a flight at another airport. She said there would be NO charge to get us on that flight in two hours and was helpful in advising us to take a shuttle that runs between the two airports. That enabled us to retain our round trip flight and return to the airport that we parked at. So United got us taken care of for a $72 shuttle and same day flight when Expedia was completely unhelpful and inefficient. Thank you to the staff at United BWI!

2 hour Flight delayed out of MCO to IAH. Landed in IAH with 20 mins to catch connecting flight. Had to SPRINT to the gate and guess what...they close the doors right when I get there. Now wouldn't they hold the flight for an additional mins to wait? United doesn't seem to have a problem delaying their flights but they cant make a reasonable request to hold a connection when the plane has landed with time to give the passenger some time to get to the plane? We landed in terminal c and I had to run to terminal e. I made it but was denied. The two employees working the gate did not care and did not offer any comfort or explanation. They just said to go to customer service as they were on their cell phones. In the meantime I had to walk a country mile to customer service where there was a line. Luckily there was a couple in front of me they ran into the issue and just happened to look at their mobile app to see that they had already been rebooked. So I did the same and luckily I was. Now why didnt the crew from MCO tell us this? Why didnt the two other gals working the gate at IAH tell us that? Poor customer service! I travel quite a bit and will avoid flying United. Had booked a round trip from EWR to Delhi. While the flight to Delhi was smooth, the return flight (August 11) was delayed by over 18 hours. After haggling with a United representative on the phone for over 45mins I was told that I could only be given a flight back option from Mumbai if I made my own arrangements to fly to Mumbai. I needed to get back to Newark by Sunday and did not have many options, I was finally given an option to fly via Munich with about a 4-5hours layover in Munich. While I my original booking was on ‘Premium Economy’ my booking on Lufthansa was done on a regular coach class and was given a middle seat to travel overnight. At Munich I went to the Miles and More lounge and presented my United Club pass (knowing that they are part of Star Alliance), however, they said that the United Club pass is not acceptable at their lounges. So I had to sit around the Munich airport for the next 4-5hours. Overall, was a painful experience and I expected better service for a Premium Gold member.

Have tried to add reservation multiple times ... keeps disappearing. On first opportunity I said “don’t add to travel wallet” - as it’s my first time using the app and I had no idea what the travel while was. I thought they might be referring to Apple wallet, which I’ve had bad experience with in the past, and so do not use for flight information. Ever since then, no matter what I do, turn travel wallet saving on off etc., whenever I add that reservation, it appears for short time on home screen then disappears. If an app can’t manage my reservations - no other features really matter. Recommend that they study behavior of Alaska Airlines app - that is a really really good airline app!! Also adding more u-ex designers who have empathy for “the common person” and can conduct usability research would go a long way. Next I clicked on the “support” link in the App Store - so I could report this bug so they could fix it ... and I was taken to a marketing page telling me about the app’s features ... a non mobile optimized page ... hard to read on my phone :-) ... with no place to report a bug. I’m sure United does not mean to convey the message that their marketing materials are a higher priority than receiving customer feedback about bugs ... but the current approach is in danger of customers receiving that message ...

Tried using the in flight entertainment on my IPhone on two separate trips to no avail. I’m an IT Engineer with a PhD in computer science so I’d like to think I know a few things about making stuff work however I tried almost the entire flight to make the movies play. I finally asked the flight attendants what the secret was and neither of them knew. One checked the system to make sure it was on and then came back to tell me that someone in first class had it working on their iPad. Well congratulations to them up in first class! Maybe that’s the secret us regular passengers back in coach would like to be entertained as well. I travel weekly for my job and all my apps and devices are all fully updated so I’m thinking this is just a crappy app/system. The trailers play without issue just to tease you about the fantastic movie you are about to watch but then like a kid who’s parent tells them “no you can’t have that ice cream” all your hopes and dreams are shattered into a million pieces. My recommendation for the best results with this app: Delete it and fly on American instead where the planes are newer and their stuff works as it should, Otherwise the only entertainment you are going to get is spending your whole flight trying to get this app to load your movie.

Wow, I remember having to go down to a ticket office(30 min) and spend an hour having someone else tell what they thought my flight options were (60min) and then having to print a ticket and keep up with it(never) and then strategically place the ticket where I can present it to 4 different people so I can make it through the airport including checking in for flight (60min+) then security, gate agent, and flight attendant all while stopping to check the board for which gate (15min) and any updates and heaven forbid I have a connecting flight and another flight coupon! Only complaint is I seem to have to closedown the app to get it to update added reservations - even if I made the reservation with the app. But maybe that is because I have gotten so used to having the information right away! It actually seems like the app, through notifications, gets the updated flight information quicker than the gate agents and flight crews! Makes me feel like a seasoned traveler - Well Done! Keep those updates coming.

I’ve been using the app since about September. Worked great. Like everything about it. The last 2-3 weeks it seems to not work correctly. I had flights canceled then rescheduled and seem not to be able to use the app. When the flight is done it should get off the app. No need to see my flight from yesterday. I’m now trying to check in and it shows my flights from yesterday and today, even the canceled one. It needs to clear out. I have shut the app down cleared it from history. Sign in and same thing. How am I supposed to check on flights this way. I then tried to put in my reservation number and name and have to tap the screen several times and wait. I know it’s not my phone because if I tap “search” once it tells me I have to put a reservation number and name. Duh! I’m trying but it won’t let me unless I tap my screen 20-50 times. Then I have to go through the same tapping for my name. Very frustrating. This needs to be fixed asap. I gave it a 4 star because when it’s working I really don’t have any complaints. I like it better than American Airlines app.

What goodness does an app add if the “state of the art” Entertainment technology is useless when the plane WiFi does not work? Many upset customers, Bose and iPhones ready, asked the attendants if this was common. “It happens all the time”. Coast-to-Coast without Entertainment. What good is it to be able to “manage” your miles when United uses de PQM miles scam to credit miles (got less than 30% of my true miles credited, it will take me years to build enough miles to get a domestic free ticket)? But it won’t happen because I avoid United with passion and even cancelled their credit card. What’s the point? My problem with United is United, not the app. United has forgotten its customer focus and to reward loyalty. Forget even the flying experience, just take a European carrier and compare. United apps would be really useful if they were built on a platform of customer service, clearly what United is not about anymore. So I avoid United at all costs, gone to better carriers with more inferior apps.

I flew United for the first time in a while and I found that, compared to other airline apps, their flight statuses were updated the most frequently/accurately. It told me about delays before the gate clerk even knew. As you could’ve guessed, this unfortunately means that I was on a delayed flight which caused me to miss my connection on the last flight out of Newark for the night. The app let me know right away when my connection took off, preventing the hassle of running to the gate to check, and immediately presented me with options for next steps. It provided the next United flight out of Newark and guaranteed me a seat, while also showing me flights out of nearby airports, like LaGuardia and JFK, in order to more accurately assess options and get to my destination as soon as possible. Thank you so much for alleviating the stress in a tough situation! I’ve never booked a flight using the app, so I cannot speak on that, but my experience was great.

I haven’t flown in 15 years, so I decided to take United after hearing good things about them. My experience was less than enjoyable. After deplaning in Houston and being unfamiliar with airport, I discovered my my next flight was leaving from a gate clear across the airport, so rushing through to arrive at my gate on time, I discovered the plane was delayed for over an hour due to bad weather in NJ. Then, they call us to board only to find out that there was a problem and we would be delayed another 15 minutes, not a huge deal. However, these delays continued for another 2 1/2 hours! We were given ridiculous excuses, one after the other, without a sincere apology or the truth. Perhaps the airline thought we should all understand and comply without a genuine explanation or compensation. They did allow us to watch a movie for free, but still charged for alcohol. When you have friends or family waiting for you at your final destination and it turns out to be 3:00 am, I think the responsibility lies with United to be sure everything is taken care of before asking passengers to board.

This is our second experience with United and our LAST. Over a year ago we went to Hawaii. It took over an hour to get drinks and another hour to get food. By the time they got to us there was limited food available. This was an 8 hour flight and they never came back around for snacks or drinks. Fast forward over a year...another disastrous flight. I called to give them my TSA pre check and they told me it was entered. When we went through security, it was not on there. Could have gone back to the counter but decided to proceed. We flew out of Nashville and got to the airport an hour early. No problem. We went to the airport an hour early for our return flight in Springfield MO and were told we should have been there two hours before and we would not be able to get on our flight. Mind you this is a very small airport. The family in front of us had the EXACT same problem and were having to get a flight out the next day. It took us an HOUR to just get up to the ticket counter to rebook our flight. The manager NEVER came over and addressed the issue. We usually fly SOUTHWEST and NEVER have had any of these issues. We will choose any other option besides United going forward.

There is nothing worse than to have a two hour delay when trying to make your connection. However, United manages to take it from bad to worse by not updating the flight status from “on time” for over an hour AFTER the scheduled departure time. The insult to injury is when you ask United Representative, Sheldon, why nothing has been posted or notification rec’d on United app, you get a response of “because I made an announcement over the speaker.” Yes, he was serious, and no, he had no intention of actually helping us. At this stage it is without question that we would not make our connection in SFO. Sheldon then asks with all sincerity, “Do you want to change you connecting flight?” What is truly sad is that the other 100+ people on the flight were left in the dark for hours. We only knew about the length of delay because we were in contact with someone on the incoming flight from SFO which was the same plane we would be departing on. Anyone who travels often is well aware that delays happen; however, there is no reason not to provide adequate communication or assistance to customers. It is unfortunate that individuals, as well as their employers, are not held accountable.

When I went to get my boarding pass at the desk, the service agent told me that I could only carry one bag on board because I had “basic economy“. When I explained to her that I had been flying with two bags on “basic economy“ for the last year she said “that’s not possible“ she said that I needed to pay $50 to have my ticket upgraded and I had to call central reservations and “it would take quite a long time“. Since I knew she was wrong, I went into my ultra nice guy mode and suggested she check a little further. She then went to her computer and behold, she discovered that I was a Premier holder. She also said that I was in boarding group 2 which meant that I could take two bags on board. She was not apologetic in anyway. She was quite huffy with me and not typical of my experience with United employees. I’m not putting her name in here because I don’t want to single her out but it was a not typical united behavior.

This app is good for one thing, making you miss your flight. It will repeatedly fail to update you on flight changes, in my case it told me the incorrect gate, causing me to almost miss my flight. Unfortunately, United has also caused the most unforgivingly miserable and unprofessional flights of my life. My flight was supposed leave at 10:36pm, the time is important. Got delayed till 1:30am. I waited until 1:30, than I received the notice that the flight was delayed until 10:35 in the morning. The best part, 12 hours is a full refund. But because it's at 10:35 not 10:36, that one minute makes sure I don't get a refund. The result? Cozying up on the floor of LAX all night. The customer service will be sure to make your experience even more miserable. You can enjoy waiting for over an hour, to than be fed misinformation about upcoming flights, claiming there were no more flights headed to my destination. However, all morning I watched as people in the wait list slipped on to more flights, flights that customer service claimed didn’t exist. The bottom line is, this app is an impressive reflection of what flying United is like. You shouldn’t need this app, because you shouldn’t fly United.

This has been the worst trip ever. Began on 5/27. Flight cancellation due to weather. Not United’s fault but it cost us a weeks parking as we had to drive 2 hrs to another airport to fly out at 6am on ANOTHER airline to make our scheduled preop appt for shoulder replacement surgery. United was gracious about rebooking our return flight to the new airport that our car was at (2 hrs from home) and then our return was delayed and we could not make the connection to get home. They rebooked us but we were stuck in Washington Dulles airport for 6 hrs. My husband needed to get his shoulder iced with this therapeutic machine which required ice. We asked if we could sit in the United Lounge and get ice and privacy and was told by both Customer Care and United Lounge that we could not be compensated with privilege to the lounge. Privilege? I felt terrible for my husband but we set him up in a United waiting area with the least population and a restaurant brought us some ice and we got him hooked up to the iceman (by this time he was in excruciating pain) and I took plenty of pictures for the community to see how well United treats it’s passengers. Wasn’t it United who killed the dog by putting it in an overhead bin and suffocated it????
Frustrating finding flight info or progress to premier

I travel for my job, basically every week. When you have multiple flights booked, the app makes it very difficult to find the info on your later flights until your current flight has landed. You have to go into your profile and do a roundabout process in order to locate the info on your other flights, or even to check in for your return flight (which is very frustrating if you fly in/out of a city in the same day). Also, in order to see my progress towards premier, I have to click the link in the app which takes me to an external site where I enter my login info again. This is annoying bc I can’t remember my rewards number, so I end up getting locked out after multiple attempts and need to change my password. Another thing that I just noticed is annoying when trying to submit this review is that I have to enter a nickname for myself when submitting. I’ve now tried 8 iterations of my name but all have been previously taken, so apparently I cannot submit a review without a unique nickname. This is ridiculous.
Flight delay.

Our flight was delayed by two hours. We luckily had two club passes but it really should have been comped. On flight could not watch movies because my adobe player on my Apple laptop is too new so only could read what I had already downloaded. Food in club was cold and mediocre compared to our delta club experience. Definitely not worth how much a day pass would cost. Also the day passes expire which is annoying when you often do not have time to utilize the club. Overall very disappointed in my United experience. We will now have to Uber home which will cost us $80 since our daughter now can’t pick us up. Flight attendants were very nice and seats comfortable as a small positive. Other airlines use the go app making it easy to use the entertainment especially since no screens on planes anymore. You need to make it easier for your customers. Will think twice about using United in the future since this was the second trip in a row with problems and my daughter just had a bad experience with plane problems and no email about flight being cancelled. The last two times I have dealt with Agents Maria and Michele both were very helpful to me with my questions. It was a great improvement over being charged $500. Extra for the same flight. I still have not received the check for the overcharging When I called it was told to me I made two reservations. I had to go through a agent because I wanted to change the credit card United has on file. Instead I was charged on both credit cards with two different confirmations numbers but you could only print one itinerary out. The agent who helped me then was Dominick who also very helpful although he kept insisting that I made the reservations. I asked why my credit card number wasn’t changed since that was what I had called for in the beginning. I will try at the airport. In fortunately I did not get the name of the agent who issued The original two tickets.

Remember that reviews are about the App, not the Airline. Just saying. I have to give United props here because they have responded to criticism and squashed a lot of the bugs and issues when this app was first released. I am very happy with the features and the performance of the app now. I especially like the instant mileage credit once the flight segment has been completed. Remind me why it used to take 2 days? Thank you for that! I use WiFi Every flight and I’m able to log in easily. I do not use the entertainment option often so I can’t comment on that, but I am able to browse the options fairly easily. I would like to see the ability to select Airline and Non-Airline activity in the account summary section. I fly a lot and scrolling though all the flight segments to get to hotel/dining point activity is cumbersome.
Why I like flying United

My wife has been a loyal United customer for the last 35 years. When we met seven years ago she explained the reasons for that loyalty. First, they Always get her home even if a problem arises. Second, she receives economy plus status without asking, third, free baggage, and then there are the increased returns on miles accumulated. And of course the many warm smiles she has received over the years along with a level of kindness and civility not in much evidence these days on certain airlines. I have witnessed all this firsthand and my legs being much longer than the average person’s have come to appreciate the extra space United can provide for their longtime admirers. While airline profits have shrunk along with seat spaces, United still embraces the quaint notion that a smile is the shortest distance between airline employees on the front lines and their valued customers.

The single worst airline experience I have ever had in my entirety as a business field traveler. I am standing in the FAT airport and was less than 1 min behind check in time for a flight to LAX, and will be spending over 3 hours in the airport for the next flight while watching my existing flight still board! Absolutely ridiculous when I’m 10 yards from the gate for my original flight that has not even finished boarding, a supervisor will not even speak to me. I figured I would give United a try as they have many flights in my areas. So as a first experience I have not downloaded the app yet to check in, I will never ever use United Airlines ever again and will recommend they non usage to all colleagues as they are simply said irresponsible and non caring in there business practices. Simply said the worst air line experience I have ever had, I hope you see who is really impacted by your poor business practice and they are the backbone of you business the field travelers that rely on you daily! Long live Delta at least they take care of their customer.

This is by far the worst airline there is, at least now. Download the app then PAY for WiFi that doesn’t work. I’m a die hard southwest person because it’s cheap with loads of features (free checked bag!) and actually consistently friendly staff. The forced in-person check-in for basic economy is insulting, pointless, and actually hurts their own efficiency. Every time I chance it I have a terrible experience. Broken, old equipment, late/cancelled flights, rude or inexperienced staff, terrible service and weird nickel-and-diming policies. As soon as anyone comes close to some of the exclusive routes they have, this airline is doomed. Go ahead remove this review if you must but I’ll still tell everyone I know and post to social media what a terrible experience I’ve had here every time I have to do it (with work, or whatever moronic business thing that uses them still for the stupid “perks” and miles stuff; stop it, rich finance guys. Use a real airline and help everyone out by letting united die by its own knife.)

For the last day, I had been calling United Gold service attempting to switch my Wednesday flight out of CHS to SFO in light of the pending hurricane. Only one agent -Nettie -worked today to get me switched onto a CHS to SFO flight tomorrow -the LAST available seat on any flight out with hurricane Florence approaching SC. Even though the SC governor had ordered an emergency evacuation order hours ago, United had not received the official waiver and the previous aGents with whom I spoke said I would have to pay full fare in the absence of an official United notice. Nettie, on the other hand, was very proactive and grabbed that very last seat out for me- and the official waiver came through just after she completed the change. A word to United management. When the governor of the state issues an emergency alert (as he did yesterday) United should have permitted their agents to switch my flight at no charge at that time. Even today, your waiver was issued a number of hours after the release of the governor’s evacuation order that is to start at noon tomorrow . I believe that your agents should have discretion to make even an exchange in light of the tremendous amount of publicity that warned about this hurricane. I just feel lucky that Nettie was able to find that last seat for me.

After a 2 year planned trip to Europe, we completely missed our first day in Germany, which cost us over $500 of prepaid hotel and event expenses. After waiting for 8 hours in the CVG airport, our flight was cancelled due to the crew being out of hours. The attendant was very nice and set us up with a hotel (Quality Inn - really not that nice of a hotel - it was one of the few available in the area). On top of that, when we reached Germany, I received a text that 2 of my 4 bags did not make it. I only had 2 bags, so not sure what that was all about. My wife had high anxiety that our luggage was lost and we had several conversations with the German baggage people trying to figure out what was going on - adding more stress to our already frustrating experience. As it turned out, our baggage showed up. We are terrified flying back to the states - wondering if we will make it back when we are scheduled to. I’m really giving a brief description of the series of events - this was the worse flying experience I’ve ever had in my life! And I’ve been on a lot of flights over my 40 years of travel.

Nice when it works, a pain when it doesn’t. Good: nice to book and change flights, see status, see where plane is coming from. Bad: Despite background privileges, when you open app, it is never updated with status or flights ready to check in. You always have to refresh. And it is SLOW UI sometimes really frustrating, such as when you are in the airport looking for a club. It does not use your location! You have to choose find a club, ask it to use your location, then select an airport (the one you are standing in!), and then inexplicably tap again to search for a club. Links to where flight is coming from often disappear. Sometimes they are there, sometimes not. App notification badges are irritating. It wants you to dig into menus and look at notifications already reflected on flight status screen in order to clear badges. The app totally confuses novices by offering to place boarding passes on “Home Screen”. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to explain to colleagues and family members that the app is Referring to its own home screen, not the iPhone’s. No complications for the Series 4 Infograph watch faced. Delayed flights often disappear for status screen. Last year they had a serious usability bug related to boarding passes in Apple Wallet disappearing. That went unaddressed for almost a year. How long will this logout bug take to fix?

United has done a great job during my over 50 years of being a customer. My question is simple. Why was it necessary for the flight attendants to take such a strident position in opposition to Justice Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Ct. My guess is not one has ever read any of his decisions nor examined his outstanding example in inclusion. I guess their union say jump and they ask how high. The sad part is they now project to every customer who believes Justice Kavanaugh should have a fair hearing that our United Flight attendants are no different than those who would assault someone in a restaurant. Maybe a bit extreme example but will I never see your flight attendants through the same lens as I have in the past? No one could. If they wonder why passengers sometimes act the way they do. Maybe they should look in the mirror.

This app is so horrible it must be by design. Everything i have experienced is more difficult than is should be, non sensical, unintuitive, or just plain doesn't work. Perfect examples, you will be logged into the app yet you have to manually enter your frequent flyer number through a series of difficult to find links. Why would it not autopopulate in every flight on the app when you are logged in? By design. Or today i tried to find a baggage receipt that i payed for on the app so i can get reimbursed by my employer, there is a page that asks for a confirmation number and last name for the flight, even though i am logged in and my flight history is right in the app! I mean, why bother being logged in at all if nothing autopopulates and flight history doesn't work. Then after i input a confirmation number and last name that i shouldn’t have to, what does the app do? Doesn’t even work “data service unavailable”. So now i cant get reimbursed for baggage. How in any universe is that going to work for business customers like me? Hey United, DO BETTER!
Kind caring Staff

On my many trips to and from DC, I have met kind caring people in many different positions of employment with United. One trip I received an upgrade and was able to give it to a WWII Veteran headed to visit a sick brother. The gate person thanked me as did every other employee on the plane. The first class flight attendants made a special effort to offer their thanks and one told me the older Veteran had asked for a beer during his flight. Coming from a military family, it is an honor for me each time I can thank a Veteran for their service and offer my seat. And thanks to the staff and the upgrades, I have had this pleasure multiple times over the years. Staff is friendly and helpful no Matter what part of the plane my seat happens to be located. I am not one of your frequent fliers, but when I do fly, it’s United. Thank you.
Engine broke, almost missed flight

The flight last week from Las Vegas to Chicago was super late. They let us all on the plane and sit there without AC in like 110 degree Vegas weather because I guess on of the engines didn’t start so they had to manually do it at the gate. They told us it’ll take a couple minutes, after 15 minutes they said it’ll take a bit longer, after more time they said they have to fill out paper work for the procedure, after that they had to let mechanics come onboard to check it, after that they told us they actually hadn’t filled out the paperwork and need to do this. I should’ve had a 1.5h minimum layover in Chicago go eat lunch before my flight to Charlotte but had to run to that flight so I never got to eat that day. I. Addition they just let everyone know they probably won’t make their flights about 20 minutes before we landed. Very sad. On the second flight, I had to sit next to a crying baby which didn’t make this experience any better. We’ll see how the flight tomorrow goes...
United fails again

About to board my last ever flight on United. I flew them exclusively for 10 years and soon after the Continental merger, their customer service and regular delays made me switch to another airline. This morning rabbit 3.5 hours before my flight I looked at my boarding pass to double check gate. Got the the airport to the security check and I couldn’t pull up my boarding pass. The app said I didn’t have a flight booked at all. I had to RUN around Denver security to the escalator upstairs, and get a b pass. Kiosk said same thing: no flight. So I asked the United agent to help. She snapped at me, grabbed my license, and tried to use it on the SAME KIOSK. Nice that she assumes User error on my part. She then mumbled something under her breath about not being the one running late. I explained that I was not late until the app denied my purchase of a ticket. That’s United. Find a way to blame your customers. Make them feel like they did something wrong by choosing their airline. I would rather have three stops in other countries than ever step foot on a United flight again.
Terrible customer service

My husband and I paid almost $700 per seat to fly from NJ to New Orleans. We purchased seats together in the emergency exit row. When we checked in before the flight, our seats had changed and were separated by 5 rows. We called and explained that we purchased seats together and were reassured that the issue was corrected. We were told by the representative that new boarding passes would be emailed to us immediately. When we checked the “new” boarding passes, we were still in different rows, and still not in the seats we purchased. The gate staff told us there was nothing they could do. When we called customer service to file a complaint, we were told there is no mechanism to do so. Additionally, we were told we had to check our carry on bags, because the cabinets were full. When we boarded the plane, all of the cabinets were open and many were half empty. Our overall experience with United’s customer service was terrible. We are extremely dissatisfied and will not be recommending their services to anyone.
United Vacations

They sent me a confirmation stating I was booked and paid for. Have a United Airlines vacations email verifying reservation number, booking number, and credit card authorization number to show it’s been paid for and I’m good to go. I show up for my flight at the airport and they tell me I don’t have a ticket n will have to “re-ticket” for $200 more than the paid price on United vacations. They said that was my only option or I would miss my flight, my vacation!!! Called United vacations and they don’t open until 8 am. My flight leaves at 5:45 AM. There is no one to help me as per the UNITED AIRLINES Supervisor AT THE AIRPORT. And to top it off they charged me an extra $50 fee to “re-ticket”. So now I wait to get to my destination and will have to call them to get this resolved. This is unprofessional and ridiculous!!!! Buyer Beware.
Don’t count on being able to watch, enjoy inflight entertainment

Like other reviewers I received an error message that I needed to have installed the most recent app update to watch free entertainment in iPad. All apps had been updated just hours before my flight. (Note: app must be installed prior to boarding unless you pay for WiFi service during flight.). The option was to watch inflight entertainment on facing seatback screen, which was small and had inferior picture quality and clarity, and has few selections. Although many selections are available, you may be unable to watch and enjoy them. Download favorite music, movies, games and books if you need something to help pass the time, especially on long transcontinental and international flights.
New Customer experience

I have grown to like United Airlines again from a few disappointing trips twenty years ago. Both customer support/ Milage Plus and flight staff have a reinvigorated attitude and truly seem to care for their customers which probably relates directly from the CEO down. On the contrary when we had issues twenty years ago we loved a different airlines that had animal pictures on the tails of the aircraft. We truly despise that airlines and only fly them if there’s no other direct flight. I find it interesting that over time two different businesses/ airlines can have a complete culture change that impacts every employees attitude about their company which translates into the different levels of customers experiences. I did rate four stars because as a new customer booking a ticket the website felt like it was having issues and forced me to sign up for mileage plus. Next Not being familiar with the site or app I was handicapped try to find and pick the upgraded economy plus seats by each other. One frustration is my large fingers don’t fit well enough into the little seat options boxes so I had to have my wife finish up from my iPhone 8plus. Keep up the great customer services it makes a huge difference and I’m happy to have United as my top choice again. Eric L

Having already checked in on line I assumed the untied app would have that information but it did not. Then had to start “check-in” process on app to be recognized. That process then required I have the confirmation # ready available which has to be found in a previous email or paper document. Also, the mileage plus number in NEVER listed, save the last three digits. WHY! Working between the online platform and United app simply lacks any cohesion or friendly interface. While online “super security” is appreciated on the large scale, it, and other factors makes all of United’s user platforms feel clunky and unwelcoming. Final example: when checking in online it was nearly impossible to add Milage Plus numbers to get credit for this flight. My wife, Theresa Klein, had to go through a paper file we keep with travel records just to locate her MP # and mine could not be located so miles will be lost unless I take the time to sort through more papers or d emails to eventually find the number for Peter Klein...SO FRUSTRATING.
Frustrated flyer!

I don’t fly often but I specifically booked with United thinking that because I was paying more money for this airline that I wouldn’t have to deal with all the extra charges that come with the cheaper flights on cheaper airlines. I started this United experience with a message saying that my starting flight would be delayed by two hours due to scheduling issues, this caused me to miss my connecting flight and landing at my final destination much later than expected. My second frustration with this flight experience is I get checked in and I’m told I’m not allowed a carry on and I’ll have to pay to check in my small bag. I asked and was told I was unable to just pay extra to carry my bag on. For my returning flight I called United reservations to see if I could again pay extra to carry on my bag. I was told that it would be $100 to do this! Are you kidding me? To carry on a bag it would cost me four times the amount to check in a bag! This traveling experience has been nothing but frustrating.

The flight attendants and gate agents on the arriving flight was rude and not very friendly. I left my work cell phone at the Starbucks and didn’t notice until I had boarded. We still had about 10 minutes before the scheduled take off and the Starbucks was right next to the Gate in MEM C-14. They wouldn’t let me off the plane to run get it and initially they wouldn’t get someone to check. Finally, THE PILOT said, “No, I want her to get her phone!” And they had someone check and deliver it to me. When we arrived in Houston, this same flight attendant that wouldn’t let me off the plane, announced over the loud speaker when we arrived, “Thank you to the passengers who remained seated until the seatbelt sign was turned off!” And said it rather rudely because some passengers had already unbuckled when we arrived at the gate. This was my FIRST time traveling on United (I usually travel Delta) and hopefully my LAST time traveling on United (my colleague picked this airline because it was non-stop from MEM to IAH but this was NOT a good Customer Experience!!!!!
No benefits for the basic economy

Your airline has no benefits for individuals flying basic economy. You could at least and I mean at the least have them check in one bag for free. You allow them to select their seats but you charge a fee to do that. Why do you nickel and dime the passengers who are unable to afford an expensive plane ticket. For the individuals flying above basic economy you allow them to fly you give them privilege. Why can’t fly and be like it used to be, if you were in first class you got the benefits. And second class you still got the benefits. And didn’t have to pay for your luggage and seat extra. Airlines have gotten so greedy to the point where you charge for every little thing especially those who are unable to afford anything above basic economy. I know this review will go unanswered and probably unread. Don’t be like the other airlines, care about your passengers who use your services. Don’t just throw passengers in basic economy under the bus because they can’t afford the expensive rates to fly.
Best Airline App out there

This is by far the best airline app out there. I’ve used a lot and the only one that compares is Alaska, but it’s still not as good as this one. That’s one thing United has going for them. Their tech stuff. You’re able to see the seat map, the standby list, and upgrade list. You can easily change your seat, upgrade, or track a flight. It keeps track of my reservation and if I want it to, will notify my of gate changes or delays. Sometimes the timing of the notifications is a bit off, but if you understand more about the industry, then you’ll understand this can’t be perfect. The entertainment part is great! The flight tracking option is great! What would be really cool is if you added a feature to listen into the flight deck. Like back in the day when you could plug into the seat and hear the pilots. For all of us aviation nerds, please bring that back. The only negative I’ve found is with the most recent update (April 2018), the app load time takes forever and then occasionally crashes. Whatever you did, please fix it. If it’s the image that is now in place of the blue load screen, get rid of it. It’s not needed.
Can’t change seats

I get that I paid for economy but you can’t pick your seats when you check in. I have traveled other airlines and you can pick your seats prior to checking in and or when they check in. Very frustrating that it’s not an option. Asked to change seats and they said flight was full. Get on the plane and there are several rows that didn’t even have people in it. I called right now to see if I can change seats and again person said there is no available seats to sit next to each other. Then for my connecting flight he said that I had no seat assignment if I wanted to purchase seats for that flight. I checked my boarding info and it does show that we are sitting next to each other. So I just don’t think you guys are being truthful. I will never fly your airlines again!!! And I will be sure to let my friends and family know as well. I have have flown the cheapest airlines and we have always been able to pick seats sitting with your family! BAD BUSINESS

Just tried checking in my husband who is a 1K member. App said he doesn’t have any reservation. Had to call United to have them email me his confirmation number. Since he travels a lot he often asked me to check status, change flights, check him in etc. since I have the app there doesn’t seem to be the need to look into his business emails to search for confirmation #. I do have membership number, password and am approved to speak with United. It’s very frustrating. I also had the experience of waiting at our hometown airport while checking status of his flight on app. App says flight landed while husband is telling me they are being sent to another state. Husband wanted me to book him another flight yet united kept telling me (even on phone) that his flight already landed. Grrrr he ended up renting a car, driving a few hours before having to get a hotel till morning to finish up his ride home. Oh and by the way no compensation from United!
Bad air produces severe migraines

Bad air. I am quite convinced after over 40 years of a lot of flying that when fuel conservation is in order my migraines are triggered by decreased air circulation- this happened on my last flight when we were on a weight restriction due to fuel levels. And this has happened to me 4-5 times on United. These are much worse than my everyday. These are not my usual migraines which are easily averted with simple excedrine migraine, (which is tylenol, aspirin and caffeine) but These are an”ice pick” and explosive vomiting kind. My husband is the first to notice and as an engineer and meteorologist he has a clue. Please consider this when you cut back air circulation to save fuel or what ever the reason is. These severe headaches only occur now when I’m flying or waiting in the tarmack. They require ice packs and migraine speech medication and pretty much ruin a day.

This was a booking fiasco from hell! I don’t even know where to start. It took better than two hours to book these flights. My husband and He had to book separately. His flight wasn’t available to me. Why... no good reason ...I had to pay for my luggage , even though supposedly having the United chase card it should have been free... it always was before..he got TSA pre, I did not. When I got ready to board , my pass disappeared because they had canceled my connecting flight. Never had these problems before. Although, we had paid for overseas flights another time and had issues with a seat not reclining... one of the reasons to fly business class.. booked through United...they said it wasn’t their problem, even though it was booked through them. Finally said they would give us $100 flight credit which we’ve never seen. We have promptly canceled our United chase and will try to avoid any United flights. If I could give them 0 stars, I would.

First of all I paid for an upgrade to economy plus and had to sit next to a person that plays in need of a seat and a half. I paid for extra comfort and instead was quite uncomfortable. Next - I had a small cooler that I was using as a carry on. It was empty and soft sided. The gate said I could use it as a carry on. Unfortunately the plane ran out of room for carry-ons. It was too fragile to check it - it would not make it to my final destination. I asked if someone could please find room for it and the wind flight attendant said yes they would certainly try. We were on the plane or about five minutes when I was called to the front to come get my carry-on I wasn’t even seated yet so my daughter went to talk to the flight attendants. Two of them - a big black woman and a smaller heavy set white woman both yelled at her for bringing it on and expecting the flight attendants to deal with it. We asked if they had some tape to keep it from opening if we checked it. The heavy set woman said why do you think I would have tape ? Really - what happened to customer service - and who do you flight attendants think they are yelling at a kid ???? I should bring United up on charges for abusing a minor. I have never been so disgusted in my life and I will never fly united again and I will make sure that word gets to my co-workers family and friends. Terrible airlines - most definitely not playing friendly skies.
Good app latest update has one issue

United’s app was very confusing when I first downloaded it but I’ve gotten used to where everything is that it doesn’t bother me anymore. The latest iOS 12 version has one problem (or maybe it was intended) where the app constantly logs me out. The old version left your account up as long as you had it opened in the background. I also have to re-enable Face ID every time I log in now. I am all for more security but the idea that someone would get into my phone is much more concerning than someone going to United and buying a ticket 😊. The extra security should be done in a way that doesn’t impact my experience with the app. The log in is especially annoying because you have to also refresh the app once you are back in because none of your reservations or boarding passes or status is there by default

Hi - when I try to check in from the app link, it’s not intuitive that I have to scroll down to do when the reservation appears. The option should be visible on the first screen or when I tap the reservation to confirm. The app should know which flight I’m eligible to check in on— and it should know it’s me. Similarly, when I try to check in by opening the app (no link from my text), the app should know what flight I want when I press “check in”. Instead I’m queried for a confirmation number. I am doing this on the fly (so to speak ) and have no idea what the confirmation number is. Then I have to fumble around and find it or just give up and use paper. Very frustrating. (There are some fabulous things about your app, too, but you should get the basic stuff down pat.). Thanks for your consideration, from one of your million-mile members.

I was prompted yesterday to go on another flight with no change fee. It wasn’t obvious that the flight options were for the *following* day. I selected, realized I made a mistake, and called right away to correct. I was then on hold more than a half hour, and two agents and an hour later I received no help. All after a day when i traveled to be at a funeral. Today, when I went to check in, the message was clearer that you were looking for people to change flights. I have been a customer and mileage plus customer for decades. Also a credit card holder. I am extremely disappointed in the service and considering canceling my card, and United as airline of choice. It’s clear United dramatically overbooked flights the entire weekend, which is irresponsible from my perspective. While I was on the phone with agents last night, I could hear other agents fighting with customers like me in the background. Please try to be better to customers in the future. Thank you
App has a glitch w seat upgrade for connecting flight

I’m able to upgrade to an Economy Plus seat 24 hours before my flight for free while I’ve got Silver Premier status. Normally this works fine, either using the app on iPhone or iPad. Recently, however, I had a trip where I had to connect in Denver. I was able to upgrade on the first leg no problem. But, it wouldn’t work for the second leg (tried to make me pay for the Economy Plus seat), despite a dialogue box popping up telling me I’m able to upgrade for free! I rebooted my phone, tried multiple times, etc. I finally gave up. Was a bummer because the second leg was the longer flight. Don’t know if the problem was related to the fact that I had a connection? All other times I’ve done the upgrade was for a non-stop flight. Seems it shouldn’t matter and this is a bug that needs fixing.

UNBELIEVABLY POOR service!! Tried twice to get the airplane de-iced only to return to gate after sitting in the plane for over 3 hours on two different occasions. The first time the only person who could de-ice the plane was in bed. After another hour the de-icer guy showed up but the equipment broke TWICE!! Went back to terminal after 3.5 hours and some people arranged new flights. Passengers were told the other de-icees that were working wouldn’t de-ice our plane because corporate said they would pay for it. Overall, 7 hours sitting in the taxiway waiting for some contracted “Millionare” service company to not de-ice a damned thing!! TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. If he was there at 8 am all of this would have been avoided. And then “corporate United” denied our only option to fly anywhere while other airlines were leaving on schedule!! I want some compensation for this wasted day!!!
