New app
by lakepaperboy on 2020/02/12 22:03
Very unhappy with the new app. I can’t read the whole paper. The paper downloads and then when you get into the paper around 4 or 5 pages it goes back to the beginning or it says the web page has a problem and it stops. I has sent emails to support and just get told they are working on a new version but it keeps happening. I paid for this and it keeps failing. It is nuts. No wonder newspapers are going out of business.

No stars
by online mess on 2020/01/19 15:14
No stars. I have not been able to access the e edition for 3 days. Cannot get technical assistance 24/7. When I can get access, keep having to sign in if I leave it for a few minutes. Have not been able to set up as a bookmark so that I don’t have to continually sign in
To many ads
by Mark Irvin on 2020/01/13 12:49
I hate that it has to many ads. Some of the ads have videos that don’t play...it so annoying:(
Poor execution
by Pneid on 2020/01/05 15:19
The app is difficult to navigate, often requiring a reset. Too often I have to re-login when opening the app. Zooming in and out is clunky at best and horrible sometimes.

When I thought it couldn’t get any worse
by TomcruiserMO on 2019/12/20 12:35
I dislike the iPhone app because it seems like every other day, it requires me to sign back in in order to read a story. This morning, the iPad app is requiring to sign back in as well, but it refuses to acknowledge that I’m signed in so I can’t read what I have paid for. Overall, the news coverage is very biased in a left leaning way, and the paper has gotten much more expensive for a lot less content. While I don’t pay for a print edition beyond Wednesday and Sunday, finding out that the Saturday print edition is being killed in March 2020 certainly doesn’t inspire confidence in the paper.

It’s great
Not a very good implementation
by 901CC on 2019/12/16 12:45
There is no organization to the news stories. Virtually every story appears in every category. Editorials appear in categories labeled "News". I read the Star in spite of their editorials (and the editorial content of their quasi news stories). I will seek another source of local news that is more time efficient.
Issue
by Sensai Pit on 2019/12/15 15:21
There are times early (5:00am) when the paper does not load. I even would like to see the paper available earlier. The Xtra section is sweet.
Love the content hate the app
by TKinMo on 2019/12/06 14:52
It seems that there are problems with the app every other week or so. Sometimes it doesn’t download until late morning, sometimes not at all. The content is great, if just a bit left leaning but in depth and seemingly well researched.
Fix IT
by D&Ooo on 2019/12/05 10:21
The app is horrible. I have a new iPad and Half the links do not work from my new iPad. I use e-edition and love the scroll feature but it takes me 4 clicks to get there. Most users are on hand held devices. Design the technology for hand held!!!
Workaround with bad app
by Tom Lenexa on 2019/11/26 17:09
I have struggled with this app and what a pain it is. I tried downloading to read offline but the blob in the browser went away. However, I found that you can save the download in your browser to a file and open it in the free Adobe Reader app. Look for the file in recently saved in Adobe. Since the filename is the sam from day to day, you can overwrite yesterday’s paper and not end up with a bunch of files. No more lost connections, long waits for the next page, or blurry pages.
Not a fan of the new App

Updates made it worse
by Lenexa Ed on 2019/11/22 23:12
It used to be a great app to read the paper in. Simple, easy, and quick. The updates made it buggy and it often does unpredictable things. Now the only page that shows up is the front page and if you reopen it none of the pages come up.
Not Happy
by Nevada MO Customer on 2019/11/17 20:37
Since your latest update the replica is almost impossible to read on an iPad. Previously it was very easy to get around but not very difficult. Also $12.99 per month seems excessive. The Washington Post is only $10.00.
Bad new version!
by Wkhbph on 2019/11/06 14:10
This new app is terrible! Can’t get the “paper” to load. When it does...the print goes blurry unless you agree to read it in story form. Ads at the bottom never go away even when you click to close them. My husband has to log in EVERY time he tries to read the paper. I’m about finished with the KCStar!
Horrible updates
by Not happy in Lawrence on 2019/11/03 13:21
I pay a yearly fee to access the online version of the star and with the latest update, the print is blurry and I'm unable to read the articles. Even clicking on an article doesn't. This needs to fixed immediately. Old app worked fine but I no longer can access it. Please fix!
Update a high step back
by alanhcpa on 2019/11/03 12:55
Since the update reading the paper on my iPad has gone from a joy to complete frustration. They said the update would result in less ads on screen, but now the full ad at the bottom has reappeared and cannot be removed. When you click on an article to read it there are ads throughout. You can no longer easily email an article or to a friend. Because you must now read the paper in a browser and have an ad at the bottom the real estate for the actual paper is substantially diminished. Using two fingers to resize does not work correctly. Double tapping to increase the size of an article often results in both resizing and bring the article up as a single tap should.
No way to pay for it not worth it
by Muinsanity on 2019/10/25 00:13
I'd been pretty happy with it until all of a sudden had to pay To read. In this day and age there are so many alternatives who would want to pay for your online news? Somebody is out of his/her mind at KC Star. Get real. I'm deleting the app for good.
This Version is a Train Wreck
by Daveismad on 2019/10/23 11:43
I like to read the replica version. This new version of the app makes this frustrating to the point of being unusable. 1/3 of the screen is allocated to advertising, leaving the font so small on the paper to be unreadable. Choose fit to width and it is better, but still unreadable. Manually zoom in and the page turn icons disappear, forcing you to zoom back out to turn the page. Pages of the paper skip and you can’t read them at all.
Old App Was Better
by Bob Winkler on 2019/10/23 02:59
This is a step backwards.
New electronic version awful
by KC - 7901 on 2019/10/23 00:36
The new version is worst than the last one. Why don’t you review USA Today or The Wall Street Journal for papers that do electronic version right. Update still awful. Won’t load always asks for password. I think it’s finally time to give up on the star.
Spectacular Mess
by ramjrramjr on 2019/10/20 14:00
Well covered by others. e-edition is unreadable on the ipad and that’s about the only positive thing I can say about this app.
KC Star
by X1201 on 2019/10/20 13:44
This app in its current format is terrible. When you turn the page it comes up fuzzy and you have to wait a second or two for it to clear. If you click on an article it comes up filled with ads which you must navigate around to read the whole article. Currently when you try to read the paper in its paper format all you get is a plank page. If a negative rating was possible I would give it a minus 5
Using Apple products

I liked the old app that came up like the print newspaper. Cannon get the google add off the left side of the screen. This add takes up Alamo’s 1/3 oh the screen. I will not renew if this app is not improved
Very, very Bad,
by grnthappy on 2019/10/14 14:25
I want to see the replica of the news paper and feel like I am reading a paper turning pages etc. on my IPad. The little 2 x 4 replica box just does not work For me. This is just to difficult to manipulate. I hate it.

Hate the new format!
by aaaaaelorac on 2019/10/12 19:43
I’ve been reading The Star digitally for several years, and I truly detest the new format. The pages crash frequently and I often have to sign in 3 or more times to get through the entire edition. Pages load slowly, and the bottom third of the page is often cut off.
Absolutely worthless
by Hopeless in Missouri on 2019/10/12 13:19
I have paid for an online subscription to the Star. It works about a third of the time. Completely disgusting.
Frustrated reader
by Takes too long to read on 2019/10/09 13:03
This new app is terrible. The page doesn’t fill the screen. it’s hard to read. When you try to enlarge a story it’s jerky and the pages are constantly reloading. Please improve or go back to what you had before. The New York Times and Wall Street Journal apps are far superior. All the reloading causes it to take too long to read the full edition. i’m ready to cancel my subscription.

Bad improvement
by Maddo785-550-1578 on 2019/10/07 18:51
Give me my paper back! I closed the app to make breakfast and when I re-opened it it was not in the same format. Awful. I don’t have time for this. You can’t even get this right. I’m adding my comments to those above which popped up when I tried to write this review. The new app is horrible. Small print, too many ads that won’t go away and make the page jump, shut down, and may not even come back on to the right page. I hope the Star got this app for free. Sure isn’t worth paying for. And, when trying to call to give feedback and ask for help, we are sent to the Philippines!!!! No customer service at all. Today the phone numbers don’t work.

by csrhiggins on 2019/10/05 12:44
When I redid the app recently due to changes, it promoted me to download an “emergency inbox” which is apparently impossible to delete. It’s irritating enough that I’m considering canceling my KC Star subscription and deleting the app completely.

Star eedition
by Rocky Blockie on 2019/10/04 12:16
This is the worst app that I ever tried to use. It appears that it wasn’t tested. The menus don’t work properly. The system crashes when using the horizontal menu. Trying to print a puzzle is impossible without getting the entire page. Sometimes my password is recognized other times it’s rejected. These are the same bugs that were occurring when this app was put on-line initially to replace the previous KC Star eedition. The Star management should be ashamed to release such a sloppy software. New version is terrible
by Franco9876 on 2019/10/04 12:03
The “upgrade” is slower and once the pages load they are illegible. Much of the screen is taken up by ads. The paper has ads already! I actually have not been able to read the e-edition since they rolled out this version earlier this week. If it doesn’t improve I’m going to cancel my subscription.

Needs Improvement
by Caseyt2 on 2019/10/01 14:23
The "new" version of the Star app is many times worse than the on-line original they just scrapped. Full of unwanted ads, and very hard to use. If their idea is to drive away their few remaining subscribers this app is certainly a step in the right direction...
Mostly good, most of the time
by Nette1960 on 2019/09/26 21:43
I prefer the e-star hat is a replica of the print version, probably because I grew up reading the print version of the paper. I very much like the convenience of reading the paper online, but there are times when it won't load and that's super frustrating.
Not wort paying a subscription
by LookingForRefreshigNewsApp on 2019/09/20 12:32
Don’t pay the subscription. I like the Star. I like learning about local news, politics, and the app’s formatting. But I hate clickbait articles with only a few sentences and zero facts. I hate sensationalized news stories. I hate in-article ads and being forced to watch ads videos. So why would I want to pay for a subscription? If you want to encourage readers to subscribe, make something that is different than every other news site. I’m deleting this app now that a subscription is required
Great content but app is trash
by Advaughn59 on 2019/09/01 02:55
Using iPhone X, I am logged in. In the My Account section is shows that I have an active subscription, but every time I try to read an article, it says I must be a subscriber. Half the time the link to login is covered by an advertisement. If the link is viewable, I can log in an read that article but then when I go to another article, it once again tells me that I have to be a subscriber. Again, I love the content but this app is junk.

Restore Traditional Newspaper View
by Dr. Ping Eye on 2019/06/21 11:28
I don’t like the new format. Would love to see the traditional newspaper (replica) view returned. If it is available I can’t figure out how to get it. Also, many old stories from months ago still listed. It is hard to scroll through and find just today’s stories as the preview headlines don’t give dates of publication. Finally, too many video adds that take over the app even though I am a paid subscriber.
Worst change you could make!
by mnkgyi on 2019/06/17 12:33
If I wanted to get my news in an Apple or Google format, that is where I will go. The purpose of a digital version of a local paper is so I can ‘read’ it rather than get a delivered paper. If I wanted to do the category scroll routine, it certainly wouldn’t be at a local paper. I go to the ‘newspaper’ version and read it, but what’s the point. You have over-evolved, go back while you still can and fire whomever made the decision to change.
Dispise the new app!
by 75hornet on 2019/06/16 17:12
I understand print paper is becoming extinct however the new and “improved” app won’t even let me see obituaries! I have a full digital subscription and I cannot see parts of the paper without going to the replica. This new one is tremendously annoying!

by wantstobankbutcant on 2019/05/05 11:25
WHY DOES IT SHOW ADS BASED ON LOCATION IF “Never” was chosen on location privacy?? While on vacation they showed me local ads in Florida. Eye opening. Look I pay 12 bucks a month for KC Star so I do support them but now I can’t.

News Limit $$$$$$
by iPhone user in KC!!!!! on 2019/04/25 13:37
The app just started a number limit on how many articles you can read without paying. But they also have ads that stop you from seeing news without watching the ad first. Hello.... pick one to make your money. Ads or subscription. But I’m not paying for a subscription when you have ads that pop up. This is common sense. My preference is to deal with the ads and not have to pay but there is no way on planet earth I would do pay you to watch your ads. Are you kidding me????

App stinks, content is great
by Bob is Right on 2019/01/31 05:52
I love the content. I can log in via a browser on the same device I want to login via the app. I have no issues logging in and they have no issue collecting my monthly subscription fee. But this app tells me I need to reset my password due to a new version then rejects my password change. So the app is useless.
The app has bugs.
by twade1 on 2019/01/27 19:34
If you leave the app in the background to look up something in an article, say an address on Google Maps, for example, and return to the app, you don’t return to the article you were reading. It resets and you wind up at the Top Stories header with the #1 story in the background. It’s very, very annoying and I’m uninstalling the app.

The Star, even with the cutbacks over past few years, continues to be a source of great journalism. The investigative projects & editorial columns are key strengths to the paper.
Very disruptive ads
by Jadwin on 2018/12/19 19:05
The color ads of reality photos disrupt the reading experience severely. They are at odd locations, and have tons of blank space near them. It’s 2018, and this is our online experience? It’s the graphic equivalent of strip zoning on State and Metcalf Avenues.

Poor Quality Control on Updates
by Nexadad on 2018/11/18 14:46
It would be nice if after an update the app wouldn’t lock me out and ignore my login and password. I already pay a lot for a less than average print edition so the loss of the online use begs the question of why do I subscribe.

by SouthPawthrower on 2018/11/02 03:39
Living in Columbia, MO, a Blue island in a Red state, I am always encouraged with the Star and it’s thoughtful coverage of two red states. It gives me hope that we can overcome the White nationalist leanings of our current President. As a former history teacher, the Trump lies and fear mongering mimic the propaganda of the Nazi regime of another Dictator, Adolph Hitler. I never understood why the German people fell so easily for the same lies and twisted ideas espoused by the Nazi Party and leaders. I know now. The Star must continue to print the truth. Do not let fear and lies overcome our country. Many have said this election may be the most important in our lives. I believe it will be.

The star is a must
by LindsayTubbs on 2018/07/01 04:50
It may sound like an over exaggeration but the star has the juiciest true stories, about common city folk, I’ve ever read. I purposefully read for 2 hours a day from about 24 different sources. But no news keeps my eyes wide open, and my mouth hanging open in shock, quite like the star. Not sure if the star app is for you? Well, do you desire to read an article about a contractors services being rejected , so he threw hammer at the home owner that rejected him? Look no further than the star. Would you like to see an article that does a play by play, every single step of the way, about a car wreck? The star is here for you. Do you want to know about crappy city officials that are up to no good? Don’t worry, the star has all the details including every single f’ up that city official has ever done, and how much it cost tax payers. My friends, You don’t get just one juicy article a day about the city. Instead you get a brand new list, full of stories, every single day with the star app. In summary, I am addicted to the star. You should be too.

Extremely disappointed
by Schudy Family on 2017/10/21 15:05
I realize hard copy newspapers have been replaced by e-versions for mainstream readership, but this e-version/app is awful. The Star no longer provides anywhere near the same amount of info or stories that previously appeared on a common basis in the print version (which in itself is also underwhelming). The majority of news are feature stories and very seldom is their current, up-to-date information or stories. It’s difficult to find specific information or topics, particularly in the sports section. I now leverage the St. Louis Tribune app more frequently to find information, which is disheartening.
KC Star Newspaper
by Bar53$ on 2017/09/14 01:29
The app covers the headlines but very often holds onto old news beyond it's expiration date. Recently articles covering the eclipse hung around on the app for days after the moment had passed. Also, the ads very often take over the article and the X to close the ad doesn't work. I have to tap it over and over to close the ad and continue reading my chosen article. Other than that, the app works well and the paper is clearly organized.

Star Awful

The Star has gone from a reasonable and easy to navigate app to one with photos but no meat. What happened? You can't find the story. Ads look like stories. Its harder to navigate. And the stories themselves are thinner. Please try again. This looks like fake news.

Where's the e-star?
by PoetSurgeon on 2017/05/13 22:37
Can't find a lot of the paper. Where's the comics? The e-star keeps bringing up an old edition. I subscribed on-line to "go green" but it's a disaster.
A scrolling we will go. A scrolling we will go
by Kcvenom on 2017/05/13 11:25

New Version is Terrible!
by Kayte77 on 2017/05/05 03:35
Go back to the older version. It was much better. Some stories stay on there forever, whenever they're not applicable anymore. The new layout is just confusing and visually unappealing.
Always Surprised 🤗
by SouthPawthrower on 2018/11/02 03:39
Living in Columbia, MO, a Blue island in a Red state, I am always encouraged with the Star and it’s thoughtful coverage of two red states.
Kansas City Star review
by AZKCgirl on 2018/05/20 15:00
Great paper online. Great sports coverage of our home teams since we live in Arizona we wouldn’t normally see any news or sports of our hometown. We both enjoy reading about KC as we often visit so we are kept informed of new restaurants and new things to do in KC. Wonderful downtown improvements, The Star covers all of this!
Workaround with bad app
by Tom Lenexa on 2019/11/26 17:09
I have struggled with this app and what a pain it is. I tried downloading to read offline but the blob in the browser went away. However, I found that you can save the download in your browser to a file and open it in the free Adobe Reader app. Look for the file in recently saved in Adobe. Since the filename is the sam from day to day, you can overwrite yesterday’s paper and not end up with a bunch of files. No more lost connections, long waits for the next page, or blurry pages.
Very, very Bad,
by grnthappy on 2019/10/14 14:25
I want to see the replica of the news paper and feel like I am reading a paper turning pages etc. on my IPad. The little 2 x 4 replica box just does not work For me. This is just to difficult to manipulate. I hate it.
KC Star
by X1201 on 2019/10/20 13:44
This app in its current format is terrible.
New app
by lakepaperboy on 2020/02/12 22:03
Very unhappy with the new app.
KC Star App
by Lee's Summit on 2018/08/16 03:39
Both my husband and I rely on The KC Star App to stay current with things going on in KC. The news on T.V. seems to be super hyped like they are the first one covering the story and at times getting information wrong. We just want the true facts and not so much doom and gloom.
Excellent!
by Geneswinz on 2018/11/11 18:02
I am from Kansas City, Missouri. I retired from the United States Navy after serving 20 1/2 years. So it is awesome for me to see what is going on in the city that I called home for 18 years. Outstanding coverage of the Kansas City area! And of course I remain a Chiefs & Royals fan forever! Eugene Swinney

Essential part of KC
by ___________ Clock on 2019/01/02 19:08
The Star, even with the cutbacks over past few years, continues to be a source of great journalism. The investigative projects & editorial columns are key strengths to the paper.
Please fix!
I enjoy the Star
by todhurd on 2018/11/19 23:03
Great old school journalism. This nice local paper deserves our support. Pony up the very affordable subscription rate and help make our local paper better.
Best app for Kansas Citians

Bad new version!
by Wkhbph on 2019/11/06 14:10
This new app is terrible! Can’t get the “paper” to load. When it does...the print goes blurry unless you agree to read it in story form. Ads at the bottom never go away even when you click to close them. My husband has to log in EVERY time he tries to read the paper. I’m about finished with the KCStar!
Using Apple products
by kaw645 on 2019/10/18 19:38

by Pierwell on 2018/10/12 13:47
We’ve tried repeatedly to stop delivery during vacations without success. There are broken links and our password doesn’t help. Clicked Forgot Password (twice) and neither temporary one works. What happened to PHONE service for these kinds of requests?
Love the content hate the app
by TKinMo on 2019/12/06 14:52
It seems that there are problems with the app every other week or so. Sometimes it doesn’t download until late morning, sometimes not at all. The content is great, if just a bit left leaning but in depth and seemingly well researched.

Very disruptive ads
by Jadwin on 2018/12/19 19:05
The color ads of reality photos disrupt the reading experience severely. They are at odd locations, and have tons of blank space near them. It’s 2018, and this is our online experience? It’s the graphic equivalent of strip zoning on State and Metcalf Avenues.

by Caseyt2 on 2019/10/01 14:23
The "new" version of the Star app is many times worse than the on-line original they just scrapped. Full of unwanted ads, and very hard to use. If their idea is to drive away their few remaining subscribers this app is certainly a step in the right direction...

Poor Quality Control on Updates
by Nexadad on 2018/11/18 14:46
It would be nice if after an update the app wouldn’t lock me out and ignore my login and password. I already pay a lot for a less than average print edition so the loss of the online use begs the question of why do I subscribe.

by Lenexa Ed on 2019/11/22 23:12
It used to be a great app to read the paper in.
Using Apple products
by kaw645 on 2019/10/18 19:38
Why can’t the margins be adjusted on the puzzles in order to print? Only seems to be a problem when using Apple products. Extremely frustrating
Not happy in Topeka
by not happy in Topeka on 2019/10/15 14:52
I liked the old app that came up like the print newspaper.
I hate it.
Best paper in the world

Local and National news. You cannot beat the articles written by the star.

Kc star app
by csrhiggins on 2019/10/05 12:44
When I redid the app recently due to changes, it promoted me to download an “emergency inbox” which is apparently impossible to delete.

You should be too.

by Schudy Family on 2017/10/21 15:05
I realize hard copy newspapers have been replaced by e-versions for mainstream readership, but this e-version/app is awful.

It’s difficult to find specific information or topics, particularly in the sports section. I now leverage the St. Louis Tribune app more frequently to find information, which is disheartening.
Workaround with bad app
by Tom Lenexa on 2019/11/26 17:09
I have struggled with this app and what a pain it is. I tried downloading to read offline but the blob in the browser went away. However, I found that you can save the download in your browser to a file and open it in the free Adobe Reader app. Look for the file in recently saved in Adobe. Since the filename is the sam from day to day, you can overwrite yesterday’s paper and not end up with a bunch of files. No more lost connections, long waits for the next page, or blurry pages.
Very, very Bad,
by grnthappy on 2019/10/14 14:25
I want to see the replica of the news paper and feel like I am reading a paper turning pages etc. on my IPad. The little 2 x 4 replica box just does not work For me. This is just to difficult to manipulate. I hate it.
KC Star
by X1201 on 2019/10/20 13:44
This app in its current format is terrible.
New app
by lakepaperboy on 2020/02/12 22:03
Very unhappy with the new app.
KC Star App
by Lee's Summit on 2018/08/16 03:39
Both my husband and I rely on The KC Star App to stay current with things going on in KC.
Issue
by Sensai Pit on 2019/12/15 15:21
There are times early (5:00am) when the paper does not load. I even would like to see the paper available earlier. The Xtra section is sweet.
Essential part of KC
by ___________ Clock on 2019/01/02 19:08
The Star, even with the cutbacks over past few years, continues to be a source of great journalism. The investigative projects & editorial columns are key strengths to the paper.
Please fix!
I enjoy the Star
by todhurd on 2018/11/19 23:03
Great old school journalism. This nice local paper deserves our support. Pony up the very affordable subscription rate and help make our local paper better.
Best app for Kansas Citians
by mkmetivier on 2018/05/23 16:08
Easy to use. The perfect amount of push alerts. Phenomenal information. Important news to know and great content about restaurants, sports, technology and more!
Using Apple products
by kaw645 on 2019/10/18 19:38
Why can’t the margins be adjusted on the puzzles in order to print? Only seems to be a problem when using Apple products. Extremely frustrating
Frustrating!
by Pierwell on 2018/10/12 13:47
We’ve tried repeatedly to stop delivery during vacations without success.
Breaking News
by Oldbaldguy. on 2018/10/18 10:28
The best way to get latest updates for Chiefs or anything else is using the Star’s web app.
Best paper in the world
by B$💀 on 2019/10/14 00:16
Local and National news. You cannot beat the articles written by the star.
No stars
by online mess on 2020/01/19 15:14
No stars. I have not been able to access the e edition for 3 days. Cannot get technical assistance 24/7. When I can get access, keep having to sign in if I leave it for a few minutes. Have not been able to set up as a bookmark so that I don’t have to continually sign in
Hometown paper

New electronic version awful
by KC - 7901 on 2019/10/23 00:36
The new version is worst than the last one. Why don’t you review USA Today or The Wall Street Journal for papers that do electronic version right. Update still awful. Won’t load always asks for password. I think it’s finally time to give up on the star.
Poor Quality Control on Updates
by Nexadad on 2018/11/18 14:46
It would be nice if after an update the app wouldn’t lock me out and ignore my login and password. I already pay a lot for a less than average print edition so the loss of the online use begs the question of why do I subscribe.
Not Impressed
by Sam Waterston on 2018/06/19 12:38
The subscription service portion of the app was not readily responsive on my tablet. Stop paper calendar did not work. Had to type date in. App shut down in mid process and had to log in again. Frustrating experience.
Watch out.
by wantstobankbutcant on 2019/05/05 11:25
WHY DOES IT SHOW ADS BASED ON LOCATION IF “Never” was chosen on location privacy?? While on vacation they showed me local ads in Florida. Eye opening. Look I pay 12 bucks a month for KC Star so I do support them but now I can’t.
