I usually get paid earlier than what greendot had advertised in regards to getting paid before payday. That is a huge plus and for that I am grateful. However they need to fix their technical problems ASAP and I mean ASAP. I cannot log into my account through the app without that stupid error message stating that we are unable to access your account please try again later. Same thing when I try to go into my account online. The only way I can find out about my balance is if I called the number. It’s a shame really.

Everytime I open the app is asl me if I want to open an account, but the area where it says already a customer log in. There’s nothing to clock to log in . I feel like a sitting duck everytime I open the app . Please fix it ASAP .!

I ordered the card I downloaded the app and it can’t connect tells me to try again try again same thing over and over. This doesn’t make me feel very good about having my pay checks out Into this app. So what if it can’t connect? O well I don’t get to access my account or money? I will change this if this resolves it self. If it doesn’t I guess I won’t use it and try some other online bank.... ugh disappointed also I get paid this Friday. Will there be a delay if I get all my info in here today? How long does it take ?

i just got a card & created an account, so to make the future more convenient, i downloaded the greendot app. i type in my information correctly and am told via pop up alert that i have to use the website, and i repeated this at least 10 times. so..i just don’t understand why i was encouraged to get the app through the website but the app told me to use the website. is there an amount of time that i have to wait before the app will let me log in? what’s up?

I personally think it’s good it dose what it’s supposed to do. Just like any APP it has it’s bugs but it’s nothing major and I like the security on it too. GreenDot is definitely getting better now we jus gotta do something about the atm withdrawal amount wen tax time comes. Definitely need free atm ijs that’s m issue with greendot period

The app is great. Very simple to use my only problem is I can’t see my cash back. I’ve used the card about maybe 5 times now and it says I have cash back available but when I go to check it says $0.00 not sure if it’s a glitch on my phone or with the company. Regardless great app. Just wish I could see my cash back.

I started using this app because I got a new job that only does direct deposit for pay and the app was working great till a few days ago now I can’t even open the app at all it looks like it’s going to open than shuts down and I was unaware of the 7.95 monthly charge that would be taken out so now the card is reading negative

Let’s be honest, it’s an app for a prepaid visa/MasterCard and therein lies the root of where expectations need to me focused on. My wife and I each keep a GreenDot for emergencies, for very specific usages as we deem necessary and, when I was without income waiting on my disability to finally ‘kick in’c this was useful for the times that family helped us out financially as - regardless of where they were in the country versus our location - if there were no bank branches in common around either party, simply doing a MoneyPak was cheaper, easier and quicker than Western Union/MoneyGram/Walmart2Walmart, etc. especially when I couldn’t get out of the house. It’s also helpful to let our daughter have a card since she lives across the country and we can assist her too. But, if anyone expects this to fully replace a bank account and have the exact level of benefits or feature sets, I’m afraid you’ll be disappointed. It certainly can be used as such - especially if you find yourself unable to obtain an account for awhile - as it does have Direct Deposit ability and you can order checks for this account too. However, there are just certain things you can’t do with it but that’s ok. It’s perfect for what it is intended to be. Personally, we keep everything with Navy Federal Credit Union - including a reloadable card for our daughter now - and that way (besides our 1 American Express Platinum each, 1 Discover Card each, 1 VISA from Unify Credit Union each, 1 MasterCard from a Delta credit union each, 1 VISA from Justice Department CU each, and 1 MasterCard from AirForce Credit Union each) we keep everything with Navy Federal; each of our car loans, home mortgage, 2 Personal lines of Credit each, 4 Checking Account Lines of Credit each, auto/homeowners/life/etc. Insurance(s) each, 2 VISA Credit Cards, 2 MasterCards, 2 American Express Cards from with Navy along with 25 checking accounts and 25 savings accounts all with Navy Federal Credit Union. (We basically only use the AMEX Platinum to literally auto-pay 100% of our monthly bills with that card to earn the points and then pay off the AMEX Platinum every month. All the other cards sit in our safe at home for emergencies only (and to keep our revolving credit limits extraordinarily high versus our credit usage). It’s just easier that way. However, for certain needs or for those of us that have been in - or are still experiencing - tough financial times, GreenDot is EXCELLENT and I can’t recommend it enough. They certainly were a huge help to us as we navigated our personal downturn and then back out of it. Much more recommended than the likes of Netspend, 7-11, PayPal or the others.

Every time I load up the app I get asked to register my card, and every time I enter in my card number, expiration and security code. But no matter what it keeps telling me to register my card, meaning I cannot deposit money or send money out, it’s completely broken making the app pointless to have.

Great app but I googled it the monthly fee and it’s $6 per month, but you won’t have it if u load at least $1000 a month 🤷🏽‍♀️ Thats a little unreasonable for middle class people💯 If they lowered the limits to half of that this app could be a lil bit better in my opinion. Also it takes a long time for my money to load even when I transfer it from my bank. That’s something else they need to improve on.

Cost is a little extreme but other than that easy to use love the stash feature but wish they had more ATMS that didn’t charge fees. I pay 9.99 a month for what! To be charged 3-4 dollars when I need cash? I’m sorry but I’m switching my direct deposit to chase bank and will never use this again unless they change some things!

Terrible customer service. Can’t do 99% of the things any other normal bank can do like cancel pending transactions and give you real fraud protection. Many hours of my life was wasted on the phone with these people, automated phone system is garbage, the whole company is garbage. Don’t trust them with your money. Don’t waste your time, deleting as soon as all my money is transferred from this account.

What Green well not inform you that there is a limit on atm withdrawals and should you wish to go beyond that limit your screwed, they will tell you to do a teller withdrawal threw another bank and you’ll be forced to apply for an account at that bank sooo what’s the point of having your deposit go to GreenDot???? I can’t pay my rent today for this reason🤬

I just got my card but already thinking of not using. I thought that I would be able to access all features of the app but that’s not the case. The $50 sign up bonus was alittle vague apparently it’s only available after 12 months of using the card and I can’t even use the deposit a check feature yet either. I have two checks that would’ve been nice to deposit now. Now I have to find somewhere else to cash them. If I open an account I think I should be able to use to the fullest from the beginning.

The latest version of iOS is causing bugs on my iphone6s when prompting the fingerprint ID the app doesn’t accept the first attempt and you’re forced to put your fingerprint in a second time..

Its easy to understand how to get to different features. One thing I miss is the ability to send money to folks who don’t have green dot card. The work around I do is to do via bill payment. The 3% cash back is great and instantly adds to the account. Even though you need to wait for 12 months to cash out.

Consumer Service is not good I tried to set up for a new account online and it said my ss number and birthday couldn’t be verified. So I called customer service to see if they could tell me why it was saying that because the information was correct and they couldn’t tell me anything. So I asked to speak to a Supervisor and I haven’t got a call back yet. They act like they can’t help or just don’t want to help. And give you the run around on anything you ask them.

1.) Transactions - why in the hell it takes so long 5-10 minutes to load is beyond me. This is highly annoying especially if I need to look something up right a way. I don’t wanna spend all day waiting for it to load. 2.) Cash Back Rewards - within the first 2 or 3 months you’ve already hit Cash Back Rewards of $100.00. That’s too quickly. It should be evened out throughout all 12 months. I’m not sure how that would happen unless I was to limit usage of my card (which honestly I’m about to switch so limitation would be finalized.) or you guys set it up a different way. Because within the first 2 or 3 months you’ve got all your rewards cash & cant touch it until 8/9 months later....... BS My only 2 issues!! Congrats youve earned 2 issues rewards points .. so now you should fix them immediately

I just purchased this card today. I’m glad that I didn’t put much money on this card. When I downloaded the app to set it up, it was stopping me saying that I wasn’t filling the information out right. Told me that it won’t send me a card in the mail with name on it cause it couldn’t verify me. I’ve lived at the same address for 10+ years. I would have been better off just buying a gift card. I will just use this card to make small purchases. I’m glad that I only put a small amount on this card. Highly disappointed and this was my 1st time ever purchasing a card like this. I’ll definitely do some research on any other card. I would give this 0 star. Green dot, you need to do better on providing better service. I wouldn’t feel comfortable giving my information to have direct deposit in fear of not being able to access my funds.

Green dot is such a farce. I bought my card and put a sum of money on it, thinking I could be using it in a few days. I bought it on 10/18/2019. Here it is 10/24 and I still don’t have the new card and the card I bought won’t go thru yet. Costumer service is nice as long as you can keep the on the line long enough to read what you say. A “supervisor” did call me and told me I could use the card I bought until I got the new card. I used it and it didn’t go thru. It says you will your card in 3 business days, that would have been yesterday. So I talk to customer service and they said if I would have pd a $15 fee it would have been expedited and I would have gotten it in the three days. They said I would receive the card on Oct 29. So don’t be stupid like me and put one of these cards especially if it is the only money you can spend! If I could Iwould give them NO STARS! I am surprised you have the nerve to ask me to change my review after today. 10/28/2019 now I give them no stars I still haven’t got a balance my , still have no money, and they told me I had $50.00. When I said that’s not right either, they said 7.95 was took out for service fee (what service, I haven’t received any service yet, $70 bucks is still not there) and that Amazon had sent some items thru! I HAVE NOT EVEN GIVEN AMAZON THIS NUMBER! So Amazon couldn’t have sent anything thru. So as it stands now after talking with who knows who on the phone, that says I only have 50 bucks and I can’t even get it because it still don’t work. So BEWARE THEY RIP YOU OFF THEN LIE ABOUT IT.

Green dot is super inconsistent. I get paid the weekend after holidays while everyone else I work with already has their check. Some pay periods I get it a day early other pay periods I’ll get it several days late. I’m over it. Don’t even give it a chance.

I had to deposit 25$ for my first time and the GreenDot bank texted me stating if I deposited 25$ at my nearest retailer that they would match me. (Meaning I’d have 50$ correct?) So I wait at least until the next day nothing I waited one more an asked my mom what did she think since she’s the one who convince me to download it an open the account in the first place. Well nothing it had been well over 48 hours an no one cares right. So I ask the 24/7 help chat thing an they were not helpful at all the first guy didn’t even know what I was talking about had to connect another agent they said I had to wait 3 days cool. I waited another 3 days only for another agent to tell me it’s a 10 day process. After I had the bank account for more then 3 weeks I was done told my mom it was useless an so was the staff. Wasted a penny because you know I spent my 25$ I F*^KING DEPOSITED.

How is there a delay on direct deposit when there was no delay since I had this bank. I had it for 1 year and almost 4 months There should be no waiting for money I worked hard for especially when I desperately need it. Straight trash cant process a direct deposit that they do every week but yet they can’t make their clients happy and make sure they have their money. Don’t use the bank until they update their customer service.

So I tried these guys out my first time I was suppose to get direct deposit they claim they direct deposit processing is being delayed and do not know when it will be fixed so as I’m sitting here waiting on my deposit nothing still can’t get my money all my coworkers getting they’re deposit this is unacceptable.. After purchasing the card I deposited my money and went home to activate the card. After an error message appearing notifying me to wait 30 minutes for my deposit I decided to wait an hour. Fast forward I am now getting an error on everything from my pc to my phone and to my tablet telling me “We are unable to validate your card. Please try again later” 6 hours later I’m still getting the same message. Not sure what is wrong with green dot but that is a major inconvenience for my payments and from reading most reviews I’m not the only one having issues.

I have never written a negative review before but Green Dot is awful. Any issues they’ll just open a Case Number but no one ever follows through. You can reach out to them 100 times for help and you’re only wasting your time. No bank or financial institution will wire money to Green Dot, as they don’t consider it a legitimate account (neither the 3% savings or the checking with card). The app never loads so Green Dot is completely useless since you can’t use it the service without the app. There are a million other valid choices, don’t choose this joke of a company.

Just needed an intermediary between deposits and my bank, and you can't transfer money to another bank. When I spoke with them I asked how to transfer money to another bank, exact words, and the rep kept saying, "from green dot to green dot or from another bank to green dot?" Like, how dare you read what I'm asking and avoid the question by feigning ignorance. That's all a reasonable person needs to know about this atrocity to know it should be avoided.

I like green dot. It’s been easy to use and I get my paycheck a couple of days early. The only complaint I have is that I can’t access my cash back until I’ve used my card for 12 months. I think a year is a bit extreme. I feel like it should be 3-6 months or based on consistent direct deposit like the mobile check deposit is.

Very disappointed in this card. They claim they get your payroll check directly deposited in two days faster. Well it’s now almost Friday and still no check. I’ve used card.com and many others and ALWAYS got paid on Wednesday night. Sometimes Thursday morning at the latest. I will definitely be switching back to card.com on my next check. I was really depending on my check be in by Thursday morning.

I’ve been waiting on my personalized card for over a month now. I put in a change of address two weeks ago and they told me it would arrive soon and here I am still waiting. Then tonight I chat with customer service and they are not helpful whatever so ever. I think you would have overnight my card not make me wait another two weeks. I will be closing my account after I receive my card. It’s not worth the hassle.

Annoyed. I signed up for green dot and it says to do direct deposit so I submitted the info to my job. I got paid but no card in the mail yet. I need my money for food and gas so I contacted greendot to see if there’s anyway to access my money at all (such as using my account and routing number) and they say it’s impossible to access my funds at all until my card comes. Other banks I’ve used will let you access your money while you wait for a card. They will do a wire transfer or you can do it through PayPal with the routing and account number. But that’s not possible with green dot. I will have to wait a week for my card to access my money. I have a son and need my money to feed him. Customer service doesn’t even try to get you help they just give you the same answer over and over then they ex out of the chat. They don’t care about you at all but all they care about is getting paid.

I’ve been a huge fan of both Green Dot Bank and the Green Dot App until today!! A few days ago the Apple iPhone Face ID stopped working on the Green Dot App. I logged onto the App manually and toggled on the Face ID switch. It requested my password (of course) and I typed it in. But the return message said “The information you entered does not match our records. Try again.” So I tried again. Same result. I tried several times over three days with the same result. So naturally I called Green Dot for assistance. The representative was polite but claimed, very forcefully, the The Green Dot App doesn’t have the Face ID feature and never has!!!! She told me that someday, maybe, in the future, they might add that feature. I told her I used it for the entire last year and she basically called me a liar. I requested to speak to a supervisor. She assured me that was unnecessary as she told me everything there is to know. After I requested several times to speak to a supervisor, she told me one would have to call me back. About 6 hours later a supervisor called. He was also polite but also assured me that The Green Dot App doesn’t offer the Apple Face ID feature. I asked him if he happened to have the App on his phone. He told me he did not and had, in fact, never seen the App in person but that he had all the technical specs in front of him and there was no option to access the Apple Face ID. Wow!!! He put me on hold for several minutes and said he spoke to “everyone” in the Help Call Center and absolutely no one had ever heard of the Face ID and Green Dot didn’t offer that feature. No one there had the App on their phone (I assume this is a non-USA located center). Now I’m certain you will actually correct this bug. But some serious training needs to happen in the Green Dot Bank call center. I am embarrassed for you.

I really wish people would stop giving me gift cards that require green dot. That’s the only reason why I ever use it but both the app and the website are crap. It takes forever to load and now it won’t even recognize me and I can’t log in or anything even with my correct information. It doesn’t even think I have the right SS #. This whole system is crap.

So not only do they only offer the option to change my pin which is through the mobile app but then had the audacity to not have the option on the mobile app itself I’ve been on the phone with two different representatives and nobody could help me because the only way I can change my pin is with option on the app,which ironically is not on the app I am literally fuming right now this has caused such a big inconvenience in my life and yes I have the lastet app and I have downloaded and redownloaded on not only my phone but my wife’s phone and still no option

This app is trash! I got the card for my son that lives out of town so i can send him money when he needs it. Takes 5 days for funds to transfer to green dot card after i initiate the transfer. Most of the time there’s issues when i do need to put money on the card. Have to make about 3 or more attempts before it’ll allow me to put money on the card. My advice, don’t do it to yourself try another way. If not you’ll be frustrated & dissapointed!💯

Bought this card to be reloadable, however after them taking almost 10 dollars for their service fee, then charging me almost 5 dollars to put money on it in the first place. You are unable to reload the card! That is ridiculous! I registered the card online and was never sent a permanent card, so was unaware you had to have one. Called customer service but it’s just an automated service and you can’t talk to anyone! Never use them again!! Seems like a scam to me!!

We only “chatted” with customer service one time. It wasn’t the most elegant experience in the world, but it was similar to other banks and better than most apps. My wife deposited $1000 in the savings account in the app. It pays 3% interest, which is a very high interest rate. What I like most is how fast everything works. You get notifications on all purchases and also when you earn awards. For us, there’s no monthly fee because we spend enough to qualify for using it free. For some, the $7.95 monthly fee may be too much if you don’t intend to use it very much. But the cash back and interest alone more than pays for the fee even if you don’t get it waived. So, overall, I think it’s a really good bank and have recommended it to friends.

The app is great. The one swipe to get a quick glance of your balance is genius. I’m thinking it would be good for steady customers to have an option of getting $100 or $200 even before the paid date with a fee. Example I know there’s another few days or a week before my next deposit but need $100 now. You could zap the $100 in with agreement for a fee of $5 . Provide $95 out of the $100 so your fee is already taken out then when deposit comes in, simply deduct it before you release all the funds. This would be utilized often and you’d be earning an extra $5 with every transaction because you know people will need to utilize this function. If only 50 people use it a day that’s an extra $1750 per week which is nearly $80k to $100k per year low balling the figure, basically mailbox money. Just a thought

I tried this out for a couple of weeks and it wasn’t bad. It does what it’s suppose to do. You do get 5% cash back on qualified purchases but unless you run your card a lot, I don’t think it’s worth it considering the $9.95 monthly membership fee. I knocked it down 2 stars because support is awful! I had questions on getting set up for mobile check deposit and they were very vague and could never give me a direct answer. They kept repeating the same thing each time I reached out via email and told me to refer to their FAQ because apparently that is where I can find all my answers. I scoured through their FAQs from the beginning and nothing in there would help answer my questions. When I asked them to direct me to where I can find that information they said they actually don’t have instructions on how to get set up with direct deposit. It turns out it just takes some time before you are given access (I discovered this on my own). If they would have answered my initial question of “does this take some time to go though or should I be given immediate access?” It would’ve saved a ton of back and forth! I decided to just stick with my current bank at this point and am closing my green dot account. I could see it work for budgeting if you can stomach the monthly fee.

Appreciate the ability to load cash for FREE🙏🏿 Basic app tho would enjoy money organization features like my SIMPLE card since I have to pay a $7.95 membership FEE for A Green Dot 🤷🏿‍♂️ %3 cash back Savings on purchases is a gimmick you can spend it only once a year not upset tho its kind of forced Savings so its whatever. Maybe round up Savings would have been too cliché 🤔 Well haven’t had any Fradulant Purchases show up on my account yet like I do mysteriously every few weeks with SIMPLE if you guys can actually keep my money safe then I’m 😊... well you can’t lock 🔒 your card either so here we go 🤞🏿

Customer support to this app most certainly does have its difficulties there’s nowhere in there to contact green dot when you’re having issues not a website link or a phone number had to Google for the phone number and when I called them I got a very rude representative on the line when I requested to talk to her supervisor she just went and said that I’m only authorized to give you A refund I can take up to six weeks and the user fee and the fees you already paid when you bought the card and the monthly fees that were on the back of the card or not the Same that they are disclosing on their app. I would avoid this company at all cost they most certainly set up to scam you out of all your money. Oh and the card is still in the package and they still won’t do anything. No full refund no prompt refund not even I’m sorry for the inconvenience. And the user agreement on the app you cannot see you until after you registered your card. Yes there is a user agreement when you buy a card but it’s inside the package so you have to buy the card to see it. This is why I say this company is nothing but a scam. If you want to throw money away give it to somebody homeless instead of corporate greed that don’t care about you or telling you the truth. Sorry for the poor grammar.

From a company that is getting money thrown at them everyday you would think they would have enough money to fix their website and app, but nope! Yesterday I tried countless times to register my card and would get to filling out personal info to all of a sudden with red letters, “We are experiencing technical difficulties, please try again later.” I would go back a page, refresh, type info again and again to no end. Bare in mind that it did this almost every single time I clicked a button to go to the next step. Not only that, but the easy recaptcha locked me out of the website for 24 hours. I got everyone of them right and it told me I was wrong. Honestly how can you be wrong on recaptcha it’s common sense. So I tried to use their app and guess what happened? “We are experiencing technical difficulties.” I don’t even want to know what would happen if I tried to call them. If you can’t have a working website to at least get you as far as registering your card or at least have a working app to where you can at least log in then I would dare say this company has set themselves up for failure. This is the 21 century a website and a app *THAT WORKS* is essential to having a successful business. My point of this whole review is this, DON’T USE GREENEDOT.......EVER.

I’ve had a GreenDot card for awhile but never decided to use them until recently🤦🏻‍♀️ Strike one May 16, 2018 there was a charge made on my account that I didn’t authorize called the customer service specialist and was told my card would be canceled & I’d have to wait & receive a new one which would take 7 to 10 business days & my paycheck was to be deposited that week so I cancel the dispute. Strike 2 June 2, 2018 I’m at breakfast with my family, we enjoy our meal then it’s time to pay the server informs me that my card was declined which was odd because I just got paid. Go next door to Royal Farms to use the Atm & it’s says card unauthorized call GreenDot again and I’m informed my card has been cancelled from the May 16 incident which I was told it wouldn’t be🤬. So again I call GreenDot and I’m allowed to transfer my funds to an old card until the new one comes smooth sailing finally 🙌🏼Fast forward to today the new card comes I call and I’m now told I can’t transfer the funds from the old card to the new one because my address doesn’t match like if I was told this from the beginning I wouldn’t have an issue but it seems like the company just does what it wants I wouldn’t recommend using GreenDot
Seriously, use ANY other service than this one!

GreenDot is horrible! I do not recommend that anyone use their service! First of all, the fees are ridiculous, and out of this world! Then, for the amount you pay in fees each month, you would at least expect good customer service or fraud protection, but get neither! Every customer service experience I’ve had, has been awful. It takes 20 min minimum to get support on the phone, then they don’t offer any help at all, and can’t answer your questions. Additionally, if they say they offer fraud protection, they’re lying to you. I know for a fact they don’t. I had unauthorized charges to my account almost 2 months ago, and still have not been credited the money, EVEN after the merchant had sent it back to them!! Horrible. So over the holidays, of all times, they keep the money that I asked them to recover because I didn’t recognize or authorize the charges. I’m still fighting with them trying to get it back. Only now the merchant can’t refund it because greendot already received it. So why they won’t release it to me, is absolutely baffling. Please use ANY other service than this one. I promise you will not have a positive experience with GreenDot. It’s your money, not even worth chancing it!

*Day One: This app doesn’t reset itself, it takes a long time to receive verifications, and it bumps you out when you leave the app to receive their verification codes via email, & text. I’m currently locked out of this app. Hopefully the developers will fix these glitches. Also, this card is not accepted at a lot of places, mainly the purpose for purchasing this card was not met. At this point in time, I wouldn’t recommend this card, nor app to anyone. *Day Two: Tried to reset my password, & I’m locked out of the app, again. These are pretty basic programming issues. I’m surprised this app went live before they had these basic functions covered. You must leave an app to check your text message, or email to receive the codes they send to reset your account. Each time I was bumped out of the verification process, & was asked to sign in again. After trying three times, I’m locked out of my account, again. This is absurd! I will not use this card again after the initial balance is gone. This is the worst debit card in the world, & the app is absurd!! I DON’T RECOMMEND THIS CARD AS A DEBIT NOR CREDIT CARD.

I work in a call center and there are always policies that the companies don’t mention that you end up finding about later. I switch from a bluebird to GreenDot. I get charged $10 a month just to have the line open. Most real banks charge $5 a month. Also they arnt 100% on giving you your paycheck early. There’s a chance they can process your direct deposit up to two days early but it’s not guaranteed. They will hold your direct deposit like any other bank if it fits their company needs. Today is the first time in almost a year that I’ve put up with greendot, that I was not paid a day ahead of my normal pay day. With bluebird it was alway guaranteed that they would release your money a day before you paydate. I hate bluebird cause it’s through AMEX. No one likes to accept them. But I might switch back after this. With a 10$ a month membership fee and not being able to guaranteed I get my check early I might as well find a cheeper card service. Also stop sending your call center jobs overseas. It doesn’t make me feel better when I call in knowing my call is going overseas.

I ordered a card online and used the info to get my taxes directly deposited. I never received a card. I can't even report that I didn't get it because they ask for 4 digits from the card I don't have. Now green Dot has my money won't respond to any of the several attempt to contact them and have since learned they do this to many many people with tax returns. I'm going to keep posting and look into legal action this is theft and fraud and unexceptable. I am unable to contact u with # on back of card cause I don't have one I can't get thru using ur website or the contract is thing u have recommend to others I need a real way to talk to a real person and get real answer I can't even set up an online account cause I don't have the 16 digit # asked for cause I don't have a card. Please do the right thing and give me a way to contact someone directly ex Email address phone # with option to speak to a person somewhere I can go to fix this. U have my money and I can't get it u have no right to steal it from my family. Im depending on that money to survive and ur company has made it impossible.

After a lot of time setting up the card because it makes you sign in every time you change pages on the website, and you have to enter all your info, I finally get the card set up. Here I am, chillin with my $40 card, excited to do some shopping. Right after I set up the card it tells me “Hey, we’re gonna take $10 out of your card every month and after the first transaction”. This makes me a little upset cause they’re pretty much just stealing $10, but there’s nothing I can do about it. Next, I download the app on my phone. I click login, put in my details, and it says I can’t login on the mobile app, and that I must use the website to check my balance. So this makes me even more upset. Just wasted some time with a mobile app that won’t work with my account. Good times :). Finally, I’m ready to make my purchase. I put in all the info the same as my card, and guess what. Card declined. I tried the card on many sites and it didn’t work on one. Thank you for stealing $40 from me green dot. If I could rate this 0 stars I would.

I opened an account less than a week ago. The app on the iPhone constantly fails to work. When you try to transfer money it says not available. So I couldn’t do the initial transfer. Finally that worked. I did the initial transfer of 100 dollars. I also setup a transfer from my back to green dot. Now today it says my account is blocked pending review. Unbelievable. No one to contact. Just take my money and then block me. This feels worse than PayPal which I no longer use because it feels like a couple kids pretending to run a company. Fix your app. Stop giving worthless errors. You’re a bank, act like one. I never have these issues with Bank of America or chase bank or any other normal bank. If this place is just going to block you for no reason and give you no one to call then I call that a scam. They should be investigated by apple and terminated from the apple store. When I try to send for support, it says my email address doesn’t exist. The one I signed up with. The one they used to send me email. Unbelievable. I can’t believe this scam is on the Apple store.

I was given this card as a gift from a family friend for college. I am out of food and was thrilled to find the card, set it up and get my gift activated so I could go buy groceries. The card only has $20 on it so I expected my full $20 being it was a gift and I thought the fees were paid for so I get ready to register the card and it has a $9.97 dollar monthly fee?! I’m not even going to use the card for a month! I’m using the card at Walmart in ONE trip so I can buy food while the card is literally taking half of my money! I tried to call customer service on the supposed “24 hour live customer service line” and pressed every single number possible, tried calling four separate times, and never got to speak to an actual person. I only ever got to speak to an automated message that constantly asked me to punch in numbers and then hung up on me when it got to the end of its instructions. I just want to talk to a person about my issues, that’s all. I’m in college with no food and this card is taking half of the money given to me which is ridiculous.

Two stars because you do get your money sooner. Used to be a pretty cool card but.. Horrible customer service!!! Can hardly understand the representatives, they place you on hold come back and without saying a word place you on hold again, and then come back and say “hello? Hello?” And then hang up. It took three calls three different times in the course of a month (in which I had to repeatedly go through a bunch of prompts to even get to a live representative) to tell me that I couldn’t use the MasterCard with Apple Pay that I had to use visa.. cool but then the go on to say that they couldn’t send me one but I had to go to the store to buy one and have it activated. Too many shenanigans for me.. could go on but I’ll stop. I’m researching other prepaid accounts so that I can drop this one in the shredder. P.S. pay attention to the ratings and reviews !!! Don’t be fooled by the reply to the reviews as if they really care about you and your money as opposed to their reputation. 😡! Get it together GreenDot.

Simply put, I had money in my account . They charged me a 9 dollar activation fee in which I had no awareness of a service fee every month . I called them and the lady said she was closing my account and issuing a refund. However what she finally said was that she was processing a refund of my account balance and that it would take two weeks before I am mailed a check . When I restated about the service fee, which I was calling about , she said it was too late and there wasn’t anything she could do at this point. I tried calling back , however, the system prompts stated account closed and it was impossible to get routed to customer service without a valid account information . I tried everything, the system phone prompt will not allow you to continue past the request of “ entering account number . That was all the money I had and I had just gotten paid. Now I’m not even sure how to get my cash deposit. It’s a terrible and earth shattering experience, to say the least , I highly recommend you avoid at all costs .

Horrible i was waiting on my first card to come in the mail almost two months it was never received. My temporary card started having limited access and i could use my funds anymore. I called the number on the card and the woman issued another and said i should be able to access my funds again. My car was low on gas and my card was still being denied. Couldn’t pay my bills on time this happened yesterday when i called the support number. I called again and the machine said technical difficulties but it wouldn’t affect me being able to use which is a lie. How is my card being declined but the company charging me for a new card to be issued after never receiving it, charging atm fee because i checked the balance and charged the monthly card fee basically just charging me fees and I’m not able to access my own money. The machine hung up on me saying the call volume was high but didn’t give me a hold option. Now saying my new car will come 3/15 which is 10 days away. Awful communication

These cards can be bought as a gift cards and I do not recommend doing so I received a $30 gift card for Christmas they force you to register the card do use it in after registration you were informed that you will be billed monthly $7.95 for a monthly fee for this account you then have to use whatever money is left on the card because they immediately take $7.95 off of it upon your first purchase you have to wait 30 days to cancel or they try to Bill you $7.95 again even though when you buy these cards you pay a fee above the amount that you actually put on which I’m sure his taxes and a small fee from the company for buying their product why would you pay money to somebody to use your money go to your bank and get a free debit cardOr if you’re going to give a gift of money then I would just advise to give the money because most of these cards are the same it’s all a scam they rob people of millions of dollars every year don’t buy into it

I got this card because it was a cheaper alternative to a normal gift card so I thought I was getting a deal until I had to sign up for it and make an account when I signed up it had "technical difficulties" fair enough so I waited an hour before I started to make it again then it had "technical difficulties" again! And I was almost finished. Then for the 3rd time it said my card was already registered so I tried logging in and I was surprised to be told that I didn't have an account yet so I had no choice but to go back to square one. I have been trying to order items online and it says that the information I put is incorrect and to try again even though it is correct. So I looked it up and it said I have to review my Address so I went and it said I can't for "security reasons" so I'm stuck with a useless card that's just getting drained from monthly fees. Moral of the story DON'T BUY THIS CARD!!!!!!!! Never buying again disappointed and angry!

But when I tried activating it, it took forever so when I finally activated it it says I made transaction and it charged me a maintenance fee so I was furious with this because they never mentioned I had to pay a maintenance fee so that took about $10 from my card and then an extra $5 out for some other things and I was getting angry because no one warned me about this it basically ate up my whole $15 now I requested a refund but they basically give you nothing they hang up on you and I feel so scammed but I recommend no one buys this card EVER. Because they take your money and don’t help you AT ALL. I gave it a try but it just wasn’t for me I would appreciate it if they gave me a refund because this isn’t what I payed for. And please don’t tell me to call or email because I’ve done that but I never got back to.

I've had nothing but success with this card! I went through a very difficult time in my life and suffered a financial hardship. The banks were not forgiving, and cause me to go further into debt and additional frustrations with trying to get my children their checking accounts. Green Dot has allowed me to manage all my financial needs to both their website and their app. I love the feature where if I didn't have the money in there, I don't get a fee and it just doesn't pay them. There's definitely enhancements that can be made but for the most part it does everything that other high-end banks offered! Very happy and please customer. I don't think I'll ever go back to the real bank!

I received a card as a wedding gift and activated it. I didn’t input all of the information because I am not planning on putting more money on it. I just want to use the balance that was given on it. However, I realized that there is the 7.50 fee after I registered the card. I do not want to pay that fee over and over again, especially where there won’t be money in this account. I have called the number on the back of the card seven times and have not yet been able to figure it how to cancel my card or speak to a representative. It says that since I don’t have access to all the features on the card I can’t access all the options? Also, what company doesn’t permit you to speak with an actual person? And what company tells you to write a letter with any questions you may have??? That honestly is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. How do you not have an email account?? Mind blowing.

Hi, I am confused about whether I can or will ever in the future be able to make an online purchase with my temporary card. Your website says that “if you got your card at a store, you can register and use the temporary card inside the package to make purchases online or in-store everywhere Visa debit is accepted in the U.S”. Is this information on your own website incorrect? I looked through the other reviews on this app and one of your developer responses reads “one of [the limitations placed on temporary cards] is purchasing. If eligible, you should be able to make online transactions within 8 hours.” Will I ever be eligible to make an online purchase with this card? Please respond, as this is the only venue I have found access to that allows for any sort of personal communication with employees (I searched the website and called the number you provide multiple times already with no luck). Saw the commercial on TV and thought the 3% APR sounded a lot better than the current 2.1% I am currently receiving so I signed up. Yes, I jumped too quickly before researching... after reading a few reviews and finding out there was a high monthly fee and seeing bad reviews, I decided to cancel my account. Of course there is no way to cancel your account on their web site so I called and was on hold 30 minutes (the first time). The CSR I spoke with was very hard to understand and kept saying “Ummmm” and “Uhhhhhh” repeatedly. He wouldn’t cancel my account even though the website says in order to cancel make sure you have a zero balance and to call the number. He had to idea what he was talking about and then refused to transfer my call to a supervisor. I eventually hung up on him and called back. I am currently on hold AGAIN waiting for 27 minutes so far. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TO MY WORST ENEMY!

I gave this card/app a 1 Star because first off you have to pay a $7-8 monthly fee then any time you wish to put money on the card it costs you another $5 every time. However that is not the main reason I am giving this a 1 star. I understand that it is a prepaid card & that it does cost money to use their services. My main issue is you can only use the card to buy things in person... & that’s about it. You can’t use it through Uber or lyft, you can’t use it for just about anything in the apple store, nor can you use it to purchase anything from any other websites... I found this incredibly frustrating & found myself wondering what is the purpose of even having this card & paying all the fees. It comes down to whether or not you would rather have cash in your hand or a plastic card to purchase items in person.

Got my card yesterday for the unlimited cash back checking I’m so excited I switch all banking over love the savings with the 3% I mean what other bank is doing this? App is simple clean and beautiful and works great on my iPhone XS Max love that I can add my card to Apple Pay which I use a-lot the card itself is beautiful and modern. So excited for my future banking with green dot 🙌🏼 Ps. Please add the green dot secured card to the app so we can see our balance and also our checking. I hope they add this feature as I am going to apply for there secured card. Would be nice to have that information in the green dot app as well. The chat feature inside the app works amazing but please also use to chat with representatives inside the app without having to go online on the web. As I do everything mobile going into safari to chat is just a hassle. I love that the chat is inside the app but please make it to where we can actually chat about our account inside the app without going online. Keep up the good updates 🙌🏼

I just purchased this card today. I’m glad that I didn’t put much money on this card. When I downloaded the app to set it up, it was stopping me saying that I wasn’t filling the information out right. Told me that it won’t send me a card in the mail with name on it cause it couldn’t verify me. I’ve lived at the same address for 10+ years. I would have been better off just buying a gift card. I will just use this card to make small purchases. I’m glad that I only put a small amount on this card. Highly disappointed and this was my 1st time ever purchasing a card like this. I’ll definitely do some research on any other card. I would give this 0 star. Green dot, you need to do better on providing better service. I wouldn’t feel comfortable giving my information to have direct deposit in fear of not being able to access my funds.

I like using the prepaid card because I know how much money I have, but I would like to see it on Apple Pay because some many places are going to that now and I would like to see it so where it would have the chip I it. So many places now what the chip to be used instead of having to swipe it.... I don’t know if it is more secure, I really don’t think so because I’m was used and all I can to is swipe it and I had to get a new card and then you have to go and change all your card information everywhere.. It would be nice if it was more like a real debit card although it was still a prepaid debit card.. just my thoughts.. Thanks Deborah, a satisfied customer

This is a scam. I will always regret buying this and never buy one on the front it says no fees and on the back it gives you a list of fees which crap why do I need to pay 7$ a month just to even use it and the fee doesn’t even take place until like an hour after you purchase the card and I even bought something before the fee took place and I couldn’t buy it which is also crap and finally I went to transaction and it doesn’t even show up as a fee so don’t buy this just go to another bank or get a gift card visa. And if green dot reads this fix your marketing and you would think from a company that is literally a bank would fix their app but no cause their a pice of crap and won’t admit fees in the front of their cards unlike other visas that actually don’t have fees

I have been trying to get my debit card fully activated for the last 2 hrs. I’m frustrated to the point of tears. I am not able to get to a live person. I was able to set up the card online with all of my correct details. But the card does not work online. When I first called, I was able to get a live person. This person told me that my card needs to be fully set up, so they transferred me to a specialist. There was no specialist. Instead, I got an automated system that did not recognize my credit card number. I called again and again in the same thing kept happening. Now the automated system will not put me through to a live person because I’ve called too many times. There is no live chat option from the website. I feel like I’ve been duped and I want my money back. Please help!

I’ve had green dot for few years I don’t remember how many. I don’t like that app takes so long to load transactions doesn’t say balance after deduction like computer version does, I don’t like the monthly fee, pay to load money, or minimum balance to load with cash. I really feel they should change that. The fee to load money is crazy when it says on the paperwork I had said it was free retail Stores but guess not. I also don’t like that some places don’t accept the checking account at all just because it’s prepaid. That’s big inconvenience since only card I use for payments. The only I do love early direct deposit. That’s very cool for me.

I wasn’t aware of this monthly fee, I haven’t used my card in a long time. today I put $40 on my card so I could pay my phone bill. It said my balance was $20. I got a “one time” return for one of the months. But now I can’t even take the money off my card or add more money to pay my phone bill so I actually lost out on $40. There’s no way to transfer the funds to your bank account and it charges to get money off the card. This was the biggest waste of my last bit of money. When I called to speak to someone they kept repeating themselves saying there’s a monthly fee and they reversed one of the months. I’m still lost out on $40. I want a full refund for not being warned about this monthly fee. If this doesn’t end well I will never use green dot again and tell everyone I know not to use it.

This would work but I can't even get past the first screen when setting up my card that I purchased from Walmart. I enter my card details in the register your card screen and then it takes me to a screen where I must create a login. I create login adhering to the restrictions while doing so, and then it says there was an error and that I should try again later. So after this I tried to do it over the phone and the generated responses prompted me to download the app to finish the registration, but the app is broken! Now I'm upset because I put 300 dollars on this card and have absolutely no access to it. Even after this I've been trying to get in contact with a representative over the phone and I haven't had any luck. Please fix this Greendot.

This is the most regrettable purchase I have ever made. After I received confirmation that “This card and pin are now ready to use, but can only be used for purchase transactions. You cannot add money to the card or use it for ATM or cash access.” “The first $7.95 Monthly Charge will be deducted tomorrow or after the first transaction - whichever comes first.” When I attempted to use this waste of plastic and funds, the card was declined, although it clearly said it’s ready to use, (I still have the screen shot). The total amount for my purchase was below the balance on the card, yet it still declined. Do yourself a favor and DON’T EVER BECOME A GREEN DOT REGRETFUL CUSTOMER. Furthermore calling customer service proved to be useless, even after three tries, you can not speak to an actual human, pressing 0, which usually gets you to a human, gets the call disconnected with this waste of a company. One more thing, this waste of plastic can not be used for online purchases, in person only. Their terms indicate that this card can not be used for online gambling, but does not mention online baby product purchases. So forget convenience, this was definitely not designed for that purpose.

Nothing but disappointment and frustration from trying to just activate this card! Every time I try to activate the card online it says it’s already been registered which I have not. That being said I was never aware of the monthly fees or activation fee(not labeled anywhere on the packaging it came in) which now I’m guessing my card must be almost ROBBED dry because it was meant to be a gift until it was returned to me due to the activation issue. Very disappointed! Plus the website and number on that back do nothing since there is no way of contacting an actual person. Keep your money to yourselves people and DO NOT allow this company to STEAL from you like they have to me and many others! Wish there was an option for 0 stars because even the 1 Star is to high of a rating.

So what they don’t tell you is that your balance shown does not include any pending purchases. Just like any ORDINARY BANK. The direct deposit feature ($150) to load a check is just bad business. I don’t have direct deposit at my job and depend on being able to mobile load my pay check. Grab a Netspend and pay just 5 a month and the mobile load feature is immediately available to you. Can even add a spouse. The balance is exact every time and the text alert system accurate. I know at all times what my current balance is. I was excited about the cash back but I get immediate rewards with my Netspend card and they are clickable within the app - lots of cool savings too! Boo I had high hopes.

I have an issue with my Green Dot card where I get charged twice at some restaurants when I tip on the card. The first time it happened the charge was refunded quickly without me having to call. The second time I waited longer and eventually the second charge disappeared but my money wasn’t refunded- when I called green dot they said they had no record of the transaction. I chalked it up to a mistake and it was only $12 so I wasn’t that concerned. The same thing happened about a week ago but for $30 (extra, total $60!). When I called they told me the charge would disappear in a few days... the charge disappeared but I wasn’t refunded again! After my last experience I feel there is no use in calling. Lesson learned about Green Dot I wouldn’t recommend or use them again.

I picked this card up at Wal-Mart, specifically to use with an online/automated purchase. I activated card and tried to use, but I can only use “in-person” because my personal information could not be verified. I have gone through every option on the automated phone service and there is NO WAY to speak to a representative. The website is also completely useless because there is no way to update information or try another verification. Even tried downloading the app and it won’t even log me in, I keep getting an error message that says I must be logged in. If I had known there was a $7.95 monthly fee I would have never bought this card. Save yourself time and trouble because this is the WORST prepaid card/service in existence. American Express Serve is the way to go!

This card is no good for a withdrawal for more than $500, when I was able to take out $1,000 plus. Idk what the story is but $10 for using the card and $3.50 for every transaction. That’s almost $20 a month idk about every one else but I can use that $20. I also signed up when it was $250 cash back and of course they don’t give it. I’ve called idk how many times about this and get the run around if these ppl can even understand me and myself Also THIS IS AMERICA PEOPLE NEED TO Take English classes or something. I’ve absolutely had with getting robbed for my money. Who’s rent is $500, not mine and the last time I called they told me it’s all set to take out to $1000 and to call if there’s a problem. PERSONALLY I DO NOT THINK ANYONE KNOWS WHAT THE HELL THEY ARE DOING AT GREEN DOT.

I bought a GreenDot prepaid Visa card today, I put my whole weeks check on there to pay my bills online. So I go home and try to register the card online and it tells me I can’t do it because their having technical difficulties, after the fifth time trying to register the new card it locks me out and says try again in 24 hours. So I call the phone number on the back and the lady whom made no effort to clarify her English tells me try I can’t help you, this card has to be registered online, try again in 24 hours, or maybe you can try again in a few hours or after midnight...thank you, is there anything else I can help you with and I say “no”. I wouldn’t wish this experience on my worst enemy DO NOT buy this card.

I still have not received my card it has been a month and a half now and when I call to talk to someone about it the representative is very rude and I don’t even think she was human !! She sounded like she was built in a lab and was placed otp. She was not helpful at all I asked to speak to supervisor she got very silent and then I asked to speak to a human and not a robot the phone hung up I hate green dot . I used it for direct deposit for my part time job but the card is still not here !! My dad bought me one of these green dot cards thinking that I was a gift card. I was also given a card by someone else that did the same. I activated one card and I checked the next day and I got a 7.95 charge. I called the customer service number and I asked if I can just activate the card and transfer the money from the 2nd card and pass it over to the one I had activated. The representative did not even answer my questions. She just kept saying it is possible. After like 3 minutes she said that all cards have a maintenance fee. When I asked “How can I close the account” she kept asking me if I wanted to close the account. I only asked her how if I wanted to in the future. The representative did not know how to answer basic questions. So dissatisfied and upset

i bought this card so i could temporarily make online purchases while i was getting a bank account. i signed up and i have my money on my account, but as soon as i enter my information anywhere the card is declined. i called the customer service number &amp; they say my personal information wasn’t correct. so i try to log in on the app to change it and i can’t get in. constantly a notice pops up and says “ you need to log on to green dot to access your account “. completely worthless app. anyways, i log on to my account on the browser and all it shows is my balance, reload, transactions, atm &amp; reload map, fee waiver and log out. there’s no settings for me to edit or even see. i go into card help on the green dot website and find a question “ how to manage my green dot account “ and when i click on it, 3 BLANK bullet points are there with no information. i have completely wasted my time and money for a completely worthless card. HOPEFULLY it works on in-person purchases and i can take all the money back off the card; if not, i don’t know what i’ll do. i wish i could give 0 stars honestly.

I have been a member since 2011 I think and it has been the worst 8 years of my life! Quick story about my experience today I use the vault as my savings so if I need to transfer money I can just use the app to access my funds. Well I’m in the restaurant with my family and friends and I’m like okay let me transfer money so I will be good.. To my surprise I cannot get into my account. the bill came still could not get in I’m on the phone with customer service for an hour only for them to tell me try again later this was six hours ago and I still can’t access MY MONEY.. Do Not get this card they limit how you spend your money they inconvenience you at the worst time and customer service never help..

I had got this card about a few weeks ago. When I read the reviews I was very hesitant about adding money to the card because almost every review was horrible. But I tried &amp; tbh I haven’t had ANY problems with Green Dot. I was able to withdraw money, use it in stores &amp; online. Not sure why everyone else had a horrible experience but it’s a great card. Only reason I gave 4 stars is because that monthly fee is ridiculous. Even though it’s a good card I won’t be using as often because of that fee. But I will keep it handy.

I had a different pre paid card by INSIGHT which is owned by green dot that was the absolute worst through California check cashing DONT USE THEM! This card with the cash back has been awesome. When I had an issue that someone else was using my numbers they made sure to refund the money and get me a new card with out my direct deposit being effected. The app is easy to use and I’ve had it just over a year now and did receive my $100 back cash back just a month ago.

This is awful not only is the app terrible their cards don’t even work i wanted to get a app for my phone and I had family members try to type it in cause maybe I was pressing the wrong button but the tried and it still didn’t work. It would it was not a valid payment method and I had 25 dollars on my card that I would like to get back. Also don’t get me started on their app, it is so bad!!!! Your supposed register your card but you have to make a account and once you register your card you can’t make a account because it will say that doesn’t match our information on files. Overall this is a really bad company and I wouldn’t waste my time using their products because it’s just so awful.

Update: Greendot has done a lot to address not only my concerns but many of the other concerns in the iOS community. I had some issues with Greendot support and their general business practices but those have since been resolved so I’m raising my rating from one star to three. I’ll keep watching the service and if it remains consistently good I will raise it again.

I usually get paid earlier than what greendot had advertised in regards to getting paid before payday. That is a huge plus and for that I am grateful. However they need to fix their technical problems ASAP and I mean ASAP. I cannot log into my account through the app without that stupid error message stating that we are unable to access your account please try again later. Same thing when I try to go into my account online. The only way I can find out about my balance is if I called the number. It’s a shame really.

This doesn’t make me feel very good about having my pay checks out Into this app. So what if it can’t connect? O well I don’t get to access my account or money? I’ve used the card about maybe 5 times now and it says I have cash back available but when I go to check it says $0.00 not sure if it’s a glitch on my phone or with the company. Let’s be honest, it’s an app for a prepaid visa/MasterCard and therein lies the root of where expectations need to me focused on. My wife and I each keep a GreenDot for emergencies, for very specific usages as we deem necessary and, when I was without income waiting on my disability to finally ‘kick in’c this was useful for the times that family helped us out financially as - regardless of where they were in the country versus our location - if there were no bank branches in common around either party, simply doing a MoneyPak was cheaper, easier and quicker than Western Union/MoneyGram/Walmart2Walmart, etc. especially when I couldn’t get out of the house. It’s also helpful to let our daughter have a card since she lives across the country and we can assist her too. But, if anyone expects this to fully replace a bank account and have the exact level of benefits or feature sets, I’m afraid you’ll be disappointed. It certainly can be used as such - especially if you find yourself unable to obtain an account for awhile - as it does have Direct Deposit ability and you can order checks for this account too. However, there are just certain things you can’t do with it but that’s ok. It’s perfect for what it is intended to be. Personally, we keep everything with Navy Federal Credit Union - including a reloadable card for our daughter now - and that way (besides our 1 American Express Platinum each, 1 Discover Card each, 1 VISA from Unify Credit Union each, 1 MasterCard from a Delta credit union each, 1 VISA from Justice Department CU each, and 1 MasterCard from AirForce Credit Union each) we keep everything with Navy Federal; each of our car loans, home mortgage, 2 Personal lines of Credit each, 4 Checking Account Lines of Credit each, auto/homeowners/life/etc. Insurance(s) each, 2 VISA Credit Cards, 2 MasterCards, 2 American Express Cards from with Navy along with 25 checking accounts and 25 savings accounts all with Navy Federal Credit Union. (We basically only use the AMEX Platinum to literally auto-pay 100% of our monthly bills with that card to earn the points and then pay off the AMEX Platinum every month. All the other cards sit in our safe at home for emergencies only (and to keep our revolving credit limits extraordinarily high versus our credit usage). It’s just easier that way. However, for certain needs or for those of us that have been in - or are still experiencing - tough financial times, GreenDot is EXCELLENT and I can’t recommend it enough. They certainly were a huge help to us as we navigated our personal downturn and then back out of it. Much more recommended than the likes of Netspend, 7-11, PayPal or the others.

Every time I load up the app I get asked to register my card, and every time I enter in my card number, expiration and security code. But no matter what it keeps telling me to register my card, meaning I cannot deposit money or send money out, it’s completely broken making the app pointless to have.

I simply cannot log into my account via the app. It just doesn’t work. It says I must log into GreenDot.com and I did. I can login on my computer but the android and apple apps don’t work.

Great app but I googled it the monthly fee and it’s $6 per month, but you won’t have it if u load at least $1000 a month 🤷🏽‍♀️ Thats a little unreasonable for middle class people💯 If they lowered the limits to half of that this app could be a lil bit better in my opinion. Also it takes a long time for my money to load even when I transfer it from my bank. That’s something else they need to improve on.

Cost is a little extreme but other than that easy to use love the stash feature but wish they had more ATMS that didn’t charge fees. I pay 9.99 a month for what! To be charged 3-4 dollars when I need cash? I’m sorry but I’m switching my direct deposit to chase bank and will never use this again unless they change some things!

Terrible customer service. Can’t do 99% of the things any other normal bank can do like cancel pending transactions and give you real fraud protection. Many hours of my life was wasted on the phone with these people, automated phone system is garbage, the whole company is garbage. Don’t trust them with your money. Don’t waste your time, deleting as soon as all my money is transferred from this account.

What Green well not inform you that there is a limit on atm withdrawals and should you wish to go beyond that limit your screwed, they will tell you to do a teller withdrawal threw another bank and you’ll be forced to apply for an account at that bank sooo what’s the point of having your deposit go to GreenDot???? I can’t pay my rent today for this reason🤬

I just got my card but already thinking of not using. I thought that I would be able to access all features of the app but that’s not the case. The $50 sign up bonus was alittle vague apparently it’s only available after 12 months of using the card and I can’t even use the deposit a check feature yet either. I have two checks that would’ve been nice to deposit now. Now I have to find somewhere else to cash them. If I open an account I think I should be able to use to the fullest from the beginning.

The latest version of iOS is causing bugs on my iphone6s when prompting the fingerprint ID the app doesn’t accept the first attempt and you’re forced to put your fingerprint in a second time..

Its easy to understand how to get to different features. One thing I miss is the ability to send money to folks who don’t have green dot card. The work around I do is to do via bill payment. The 3% cash back is great and instantly adds to the account. Even though you need to wait for 12 months to cash out.

Consumer Service is not good I tried to set up for a new account online and it said my ss number and birthday couldn’t be verified. So I called customer service to see if they could tell me why it was saying that because the information was correct and they couldn’t tell me anything. So I asked to speak to a Supervisor and I haven’t got a call back yet. They act like they can’t help or just don’t want to help. And give you the run around on anything you ask them.

1.) Transactions - why in the hell it takes so long 5-10 minutes to load is beyond me. This is highly annoying especially if I need to look something up right a way. I don’t wanna spend all day waiting for it to load. 2.) Cash Back Rewards - within the first 2 or 3 months you’ve already hit Cash Back Rewards of $100.00. That’s too quickly. It should be evened out throughout all 12 months. I’m not sure how that would happen unless I was to limit usage of my card (which honestly I’m about to switch so limitation would be finalized.) or you guys set it up a different way. Because within the first 2 or 3 months you’ve got all your rewards cash &amp; cant touch it until 8/9 months later....... BS My only 2 issues!! Congrats youve earned 2 issues rewards points .. so now you should fix them immediately

Im sitting here waiting on my direct deposit my employee said they sent it out but its nine o’clock pm going on another day almost the actual pay day is Friday but u are supposed to get paid two days early...yeah right thats a lie. Customer service is aweful

I just purchased this card today. I’m glad that I didn’t put much money on this card. When I downloaded the app to set it up, it was stopping me saying that I wasn’t filling the information out right. Told me that it won’t send me a card in the mail with name on it cause it couldn’t verify me. I’ve lived at the same address for 10+ years. I would have been better off just buying a gift card. I will just use this card to make small purchases. I’m glad that I only put a small amount on this card. Highly disappointed and this was my 1st time ever purchasing a card like this. I’ll definitely do some research on any other card. I would give this 0 star. Green dot, you need to do better on providing better service. I wouldn’t feel comfortable giving my information to have direct deposit in fear of not being able to access my funds.

Green dot is such a farce. I bought my card and put a sum of money on it, thinking I could be using it in a few days. I bought it on 10/18/2019. Here it is 10/24 and I still don’t have the new card and the card I bought won’t go thru yet. Costumer service is nice as long as you can keep the on the line long enough to read what you say. A “supervisor” did call me and told me I could use the card I bought until I got the new card. I used it and it didn’t go thru. It says you will your card in 3 business days, that would have been yesterday. So I talk to customer service and they said if I would have pd a $15 fee it would have been expedited and I would have gotten it in the three days. They said I would receive the card on Oct 29. So don’t be stupid like me and put one of these cards especially if it is the only money you can spend! If I could Iwould give them NO STARS! I am surprised you have the nerve to ask me to change my review after today. 10/28/2019 now I give them no stars I still haven’t got a balance my , still have no money, and they told me I had $50.00. When I said that’s not right either, they said 7.95 was took out for service fee (what service, I haven’t received any service yet, $70 bucks is still not there) and that Amazon had sent some items thru! I HAVE NOT EVEN GIVEN AMAZON THIS NUMBER! So Amazon couldn’t have sent anything thru. So as it stands now after talking with who knows who on the phone, that says I only have 50 bucks and I can’t even get it because it still don’t work. So BEWARE THEY RIP YOU OFF THEN LIE ABOUT IT.

Green dot is super inconsistent. I get paid the weekend after holidays while everyone else I work with already has their check. Some pay periods I get it a day early other pay periods I’ll get it several days late. I’m over it. Don’t even give it a chance.

I had to deposit 25$ for my first time and the GreenDot bank texted me stating if I deposited 25$ at my nearest retailer that they would match me. (Meaning I’d have 50$ correct?) So I wait at least until the next day nothing I waited one more an asked my mom what did she think since she’s the one who convince me to download it an open the account in the first place. Well nothing it had been well over 48 hours an no one cares right. So I ask the 24/7 help chat thing an they were not helpful at all the first guy didn’t even know what I was talking about had to connect another agent they said I had to wait 3 days cool. I waited another 3 days only for another agent to tell me it’s a 10 day process. After I had the bank account for more then 3 weeks I was done told my mom it was useless an so was the staff. Wasted a penny because you know I spent my 25$ I F*^KING DEPOSITED.

How is there a delay on direct deposit when there was no delay since I had this bank. I had it for 1 year and almost 4 months There should be no waiting for money I worked hard for especially when I desperately need it. Straight trash cant process a direct deposit that they do every week but yet they can’t make their clients happy and make sure they have their money. After purchasing the card I deposited my money and went home to activate the card. After an error message appearing notifying me to wait 30 minutes for my deposit I decided to wait an hour. Fast forward I am now getting an error on everything from my pc to my phone and to my tablet telling me “We are unable to validate your card. Please try again later” 6 hours later I’m still getting the same message. Not sure what is wrong with green dot but that is a major inconvenience for my payments and from reading most reviews I’m not the only one having issues.

I have never written a negative review before but Green Dot is awful. Any issues they’ll just open a Case Number but no one ever follows through. You can reach out to them 100 times for help and you’re only wasting your time. No bank or financial institution will wire money to Green Dot, as they don’t consider it a legitimate account (neither the 3% savings or the checking with card). The app never loads so Green Dot is completely useless since you can’t use it the service without the app. There are a million other valid choices, don’t choose this joke of a company.

Just needed an intermediary between deposits and my bank, and you can&#39;t transfer money to another bank. When I spoke with them I asked how to transfer money to another bank, exact words, and the rep kept saying, &#34;from green dot to green dot or from another bank to green dot?&#34; Like, how dare you read what I&#39;m asking and avoid the question by feigning ignorance. That&#39;s all a reasonable person needs to know about this atrocity to know it should be avoided.

I like green dot. It’s been easy to use and I get my paycheck a couple of days early. The only complaint I have is that I can’t access my cash back until I’ve used my card for 12 months. I think a year is a bit extreme. I feel like it should be 3-6 months or based on consistent direct deposit like the mobile check deposit is.

Very disappointed in this card. They claim they get your payroll check directly deposited in two days faster. Well it’s now almost Friday and still no check. I’ve used card.com and many others and ALWAYS got paid on Wednesday night. Sometimes Thursday morning at the latest. I will definitely be switching back to card.com on my next check. I was really depending on my check be in by Thursday morning.

I’ve been waiting on my personalized card for over a month now. I put in a change of address two weeks ago and they told me it would arrive soon and here I am still waiting. Then tonight I chat with customer service and they are not helpful whatever so ever. I think you would have overnight my card not make me wait another two weeks. I will be closing my account after I receive my card. It’s not worth the hassle.

Annoyed. I signed up for green dot and it says to do direct deposit so I submitted the info to my job. I got paid but no card in the mail yet. I need my money for food and gas so I contacted greendot to see if there’s anyway to access my money at all (such as using my account and routing number) and they say it’s impossible to access my funds at all until my card comes. Other banks I’ve used will let you access your money while you wait for a card. They will do a wire transfer or you can do it through PayPal with the routing and account number. But that’s not possible with green dot. I will have to wait a week for my card to access my money. I have a son and need my money to feed him. Customer service doesn’t even try to get you help they just give you the same answer over and over then they ex out of the chat. They don’t care about you at all but all they care about is getting paid.

Face ID no longer working

I’ve been a huge fan of both Green Dot Bank and the Green Dot App until today!! A few days ago the Apple iPhone Face ID stopped working on the Green Dot App. I logged onto the App manually and toggled on the Face ID switch. It requested my password (of course) and I typed it in. But the return message said “The information you entered does not match our records. Try again.” So I tried again. Same result. I tried several times over three days with the same result. So naturally I called Green Dot for assistance. The representative was polite but claimed, very forcefully, the The Green Dot App doesn’t have the Face ID feature and never has!!!! She told me that someday, maybe, in the future, they might add that feature. I told her I used it for the entire last year and she basically called me a liar. I requested to speak to a supervisor. She assured me that was unnecessary as she told me everything there is to know. After I requested several times to speak to a supervisor, she told me one would have to call me back. About 6 hours later a supervisor called. He was also polite but also assured me that The Green Dot App doesn’t offer the Apple Face ID feature. I asked him if he happened to have the App on his phone. He told me he did not and had, in fact, never seen the App in person but that he had all the technical specs in front of him and there was no option to access the Apple Face ID. Wow!!! He put me on hold for several minutes and said he spoke to “everyone” in the Help Call Center and absolutely no one had ever heard of the Face ID and Green Dot didn’t offer that feature. No one there had the App on their phone (I assume this is a non-USA located center). Now I’m certain you will actually correct this bug. But some serious training needs to happen in the Green Dot Bank call center. I am embarrassed for you.

I really wish people would stop giving me gift cards that require green dot. That’s the only reason why I ever use it but both the app and the website are crap. It takes forever to load and now it won’t even recognize me and I can’t log in or anything even with my correct information. It doesn’t even think I have the right SS #. This whole system is crap.

This app is trash! I got the card for my son that lives out of town so i can send him money when he needs it. Takes 5 days for funds to transfer to green dot card after i initiate the transfer. Most of the time there’s issues when i do need to put money on the card. Have to make about 3 or more attempts before it’ll allow me to put money on the card. My advice, don’t do it to yourself try another way. If not you’ll be frustrated &amp; dissapointed!💯

You are unable to reload the card! That is ridiculous! I registered the card online and was never sent a permanent card, so was unaware you had to have one. Called customer service but it’s just an automated service and you can’t talk to anyone! Never use them again!! Seems like a scam to me!!

We saw the TV commercial and my wife and I both applied. (We had never heard of green dot before). Everything worked great and we had the app set up in like 3 minutes. The debit card (which is a very good design) arrived in a few days or so. Already earned $15 in cash back on just Uber and Door Dash alone in the first month (we rarely cook at home!). We only “chatted” with customer service one time. It wasn’t the most elegant experience in the world, but it was similar to other banks and better than most apps. My wife deposited $1000 in the savings account in the app. It pays 3% interest, which is a very high interest rate. What I like most is how fast everything works. You get notifications on all purchases and also when you earn awards. For us, there’s no monthly fee because we spend enough to qualify for using it free. For some, the $7.95 monthly fee may be too much if you don’t intend to use it very much. But the cash back and interest alone more than pays for the fee even if you don’t get it waived. So, overall, I think it’s a really good bank and have recommended it to friends.

The app is great. The one swipe to get a quick glance of your balance is genius. I’m thinking it would be good for steady customers to have an option of getting $100 or $200 even before the paid date with a fee. Example I know there’s another few days or a week before my next deposit but need $100 now. You could zap the $100 in with agreement for a fee of $5 . Provide $95 out of the $100 so your fee is already taken out then when deposit comes in, simply deduct it before you release all the funds. This would be utilized often and you’d be earning an extra $5 with every transaction because you know people will need to utilize this function. If only 50 people use it a day that’s an extra $1750 per week which is nearly $80k to $100k per year low balling the figure, basically mailbox money. Just a thought

I tried this out for a couple of weeks and it wasn’t bad. It does what it’s suppose to do. You do get 5% cash back on qualified purchases but unless you run your card a lot, I don’t think it’s worth it considering the $9.95 monthly membership fee. I knocked it down 2 stars because support is awful! I had questions on getting set up for mobile check deposit and they were very vague and could never give me a direct answer. They kept repeating the same thing each time I reached out via email and told me to refer to their FAQ because apparently that is where I can find all my answers. I scoured through their FAQs from the beginning and nothing in there would help answer my questions. When I asked them to direct me to where I can find that information they said they actually don’t have instructions on how to get set up with direct deposit. It turns out it just takes some time before you are given access (I discovered this on my own). If they would have answered my initial question of “does this take some time to go though or should I be given immediate access?” It would’ve saved a ton of back and forth! I decided to just stick with my current bank at this point and am closing my green dot account. I could see it work for budgeting if you can stomach the monthly fee.

Appreciate the ability to load cash for FREE🙏🏿 Basic app tho would enjoy money organization features like my SIMPLE card since I have to pay a $7.95 membership FEE for A Green Dot 🤷🏿‍♂️ %3 cash back Savings on purchases is a gimmick you can spend it only once a year not upset tho its kind of forced Savings so its whatever. Maybe round up Savings would have been too cliché 🤔 Well haven’t had any Fradulant Purchases show up on my account yet like I do mysteriously every few weeks with SIMPLE if you guys can actually keep my money safe then I’m 😊... well you can’t lock 🔒 your card either so here we go 🤞🏿

Customer support to this app most certainly does have its difficulties there’s nowhere in there to contact green dot when you’re having issues not a website link or a phone number had to Google for the phone number and when I called them I got a very rude representative on the line when I requested to talk to her supervisor she just went and said that I’m only authorized to give you A refund I can take up to six weeks and the user fee and the fees you already paid when you bought the card and the monthly fees that were on the back of the card or not the Same that they are disclosing on their app. I would avoid this company at all cost they most certainly set up to scam you out of all your money. Oh and the card is still in the package and they still won’t do anything. No full refund no prompt refund not even I’m sorry for the inconvenience. And the user agreement on the app you cannot see you until after you registered your card. Yes there is a user agreement when you buy a card but it’s inside the package so you have to buy the card to see it. This is why I say this company is nothing but a scam. If you want to throw money away give it to somebody homeless instead of corporate greed that don’t care about you or telling you the truth. Sorry for the poor grammar.

From a company that is getting money thrown at them everyday you would think they would have enough money to fix their website and app, but nope! Yesterday I tried countless times to register my card and would get to filling out personal info to all of a sudden with red letters, “We are experiencing technical difficulties, please try again later.” I would go back a page, refresh, type info again and again to no end. Bare in mind that it did this almost every single time I clicked a button to go to the next step. Not only that, but the easy recaptcha locked me out of the website for 24 hours. I got everyone of them right and it told me I was wrong. Honestly how can you be wrong on recaptcha it’s common sense. So I tried to use their app and guess what happened? “We are experiencing technical difficulties.” I don’t even want to know what would happen if I tried to call them. If you can’t have a working website to at least get you as far as registering your card or at least have a working app to where you can at least log in then I would dare say this company has set themselves up for failure. This is the 21 century a website and a app *THAT WORKS* is essential to having a successful business. My point of this whole review is this, DON’T USE GREENEDOT.......EVER.

I’ve had a GreenDot card for awhile but never decided to use them until recently🤦🏻‍♀️ Strike one May 16, 2018 there was a charge made on my account that I didn’t authorize called the customer service specialist and was told my card would be canceled &amp; I’d have to wait &amp; receive a new one which would take 7 to 10 business days &amp; my paycheck was to be deposited that week so I cancel the dispute. Strike 2 June 2, 2018 I’m at breakfast with my family, we enjoy our meal then it’s time to pay the server informs me that my card was declined which was odd because I just got paid. Go next door to Royal Farms to use the Atm &amp; it’s says card unauthorized call GreenDot again and I’m informed my card has been cancelled from the May 16 incident which I was told it wouldn’t be🤬. So again I call GreenDot and I’m allowed to transfer my funds to an old card until the new one comes smooth sailing finally 🙌🏼Fast forward to today the new card comes I call and I’m now told I can’t transfer the funds from the old card to the new one because my address doesn’t match like if I was told this from the beginning I wouldn’t have an issue but it seems like the company just does what it wants I wouldn’t recommend using GreenDot

GreenDot is horrible! I do not recommend that anyone use their service! First of all, the fees are ridiculous, and out of this world! Then, for the amount you pay in fees each month, you would at least expect good customer service or fraud protection, but get neither! Every customer service experience I’ve had, has been awful. It takes 20 min minimum to get support on the phone, then they don’t offer any help at all, and can’t answer your questions. Additionally, if they say they offer fraud protection, they’re lying to you. I know for a fact they don’t. I had unauthorized charges to my account almost 2 months ago, and still have not been credited the money, EVEN after the merchant had sent it back to them!! Horrible. So over the holidays, of all times, they keep the money that I asked them to recover because I didn’t recognize or authorize the charges. I’m still fighting with them trying to get it back. Only now the merchant can’t refund it because greendot already received it. So why they won’t release it to me, is absolutely baffling. Please use ANY other service than this one. I promise you will not have a positive experience with GreenDot. It’s your money, not even worth chancing it!

*Day One: This app doesn’t reset itself, it takes a long time to receive verifications, and it bumps you out when you leave the app to receive their verification codes via email, &amp; text. I’m currently locked out of this app. Hopefully the developers will fix these glitches. Also, this card is not accepted at a lot of places, mainly the purpose for purchasing this card was not met. At this point in time, I wouldn’t recommend this card, nor app to anyone. *Day Two: Tried to reset my password, &amp; I’m locked out of the app, again. These are pretty basic programming issues. I’m surprised this app went live before they had these basic functions covered. You must leave an app to check your text message, or email to receive the codes they send to reset your account. Each time I was bumped out of the verification process, &amp; was asked to sign in again. After trying three times, I’m locked out of my account, again. This is absurd! I will not use this card again after the initial balance is gone. This is the worst debit card in the world, &amp; the app is absurd!! I DON’T RECOMMEND THIS CARD AS A DEBIT NOR CREDIT CARD.

I work in a call center and there are always policies that the companies don’t mention that you end up finding about later. I switch from a bluebird to GreenDot. I get charged $10 a month just to have the line open. Most real banks charge $5 a month. Also they arnt 100% on giving you your paycheck early. There’s a chance they can process your direct deposit up to two days early but it’s not guaranteed. They will hold your direct deposit like any other bank if it fits their company needs. Today is the first time in almost a year that I’ve put up with greendot, that I was not paid a day ahead of my normal pay day. With bluebird it was alway guaranteed that they would release your money a day before you paydate. I hate bluebird cause it’s through AMEX. No one likes to accept them. But I might switch back after this. With a 10$ a month membership fee and not being able to guaranteed I get my check early I might as well find a cheeper card service. Also stop sending your call center jobs overseas. It doesn’t make me feel better when I call in knowing my call is going overseas.

I ordered a card online and used the info to get my taxes directly deposited. I never received a card. I can&#39;t even report that I didn&#39;t get it because they ask for 4 digits from the card I don&#39;t have. Now green Dot has my money won&#39;t respond to any of the several attempt to contact them and have since learned they do this to many many people with tax returns. I&#39;m going to keep posting and look into legal action this is theft and fraud and unexceptable. I am unable to contact u with # on back of card cause I don&#39;t have one I can&#39;t get thru using ur website or the contract is thing u have recommend to others I need a real way to talk to a real person and get real answer I can&#39;t even set up an online account cause I don&#39;t have the 16 digit # asked for cause I don&#39;t have a card. Please do the right thing and give me a way to contact someone directly ex Email address phone # with option to speak to a person somewhere I can go to fix this. U have my money and I can&#39;t get it u have no right to steal it from my family. Im depending on that money to survive and ur company has made it impossible.

After a lot of time setting up the card because it makes you sign in every time you change pages on the website, and you have to enter all your info, I finally get the card set up. Here I am, chillin with my $40 card, excited to do some shopping. Right after I set up the card it tells me “Hey, we’re gonna take $10 out of your card every month and after the first transaction”. This makes me a little upset cause they’re pretty much just stealing $10, but there’s nothing I can do about it. Next, I download the app on my phone. I click login, put in my details, and it says I can’t login on the mobile app, and that I must use the website to check my balance. So this makes me even more upset. Just wasted some time with a mobile app that won’t work with my account. Good times :). Finally, I’m ready to make my purchase. I put in all the info the same as my card, and guess what. Card declined. I tried the card on many sites and it didn’t work on one. Thank you for stealing $40 from me green dot. If I could rate this 0 stars I would.

I opened an account less than a week ago. The app on the iPhone constantly fails to work. When you try to transfer money it says not available. So I couldn’t do the initial transfer. Finally that worked. I did the initial transfer of 100 dollars. I also setup a transfer from my back to green dot. Now today it says my account is blocked pending review. Unbelievable. No one to contact. Just take my money and then block me. This feels worse than PayPal which I no longer use because it feels like a couple kids pretending to run a company. Fix your app. Stop giving worthless errors. You’re a bank, act like one. I never have these issues with Bank of America or chase bank or any other normal bank. If this place is just going to block you for no reason and give you no one to call then I call that a scam. They should be investigated by apple and terminated from the apple store. When I try to send for support, it says my email address doesn’t exist. The one I signed up with. The one they used to send me email. Unbelievable. I can’t believe this scam is on the Apple store.

I was given this card as a gift from a family friend for college. I am out of food and was thrilled to find the card, set it up and get my gift activated so I could go buy groceries. The card only has $20 on it so I expected my full $20 being it was a gift and I thought the fees were paid for so I get ready to register the card and it has a $9.97 dollar monthly fee?! I’m not even going to use the card for a month! I’m using the card at Walmart in ONE trip so I can buy food while the card is literally taking half of my money! I tried to call customer service on the supposed “24 hour live customer service line” and pressed every single number possible, tried calling four separate times, and never got to speak to an actual person. I only ever got to speak to an automated message that constantly asked me to punch in numbers and then hung up on me when it got to the end of its instructions. I just want to talk to a person about my issues, that’s all. I’m in college with no food and this card is taking half of the money given to me which is ridiculous.
Needs a lot of boatload improvements.

Two stars because you do get your money sooner. Used to be a pretty cool card but.. Horrible customer service!!! Can hardly understand the representatives, they place you on hold come back and without saying a word place you on hold again, and then come back and say “hello? Hello?” And then hang up. It took three calls three different times in the course of a month (in which I had to repeatedly go through a bunch of prompts to even get to a live representative) to tell me that I couldn’t use the MasterCard with Apple Pay that I had to use visa.. cool but then the go on to say that they couldn’t send me one but I had to go to the store to buy one and have it activated. Too many shenanigans for me.. could go on but I’ll stop. I’m researching other prepaid accounts so that I can drop this one in the shredder. P.S. pay attention to the ratings and reviews !!! Don’t be fooled by the reply to the reviews as if they really care about you and your money as opposed to their reputation. 😡! Get it together GreenDot.

Simply put, I had money in my account . They charged me a 9 dollar activation fee in which I had no awareness of a service fee every month . I called them and the lady said she was closing my account and issuing a refund. However what she finally said was that she was processing a refund of my account balance and that it would take two weeks before I am mailed a check . When I restated about the service fee, which I was calling about , she said it was too late and there wasn’t anything she could do at this point. I tried calling back , however, the system prompts stated account closed and it was impossible to get routed to customer service without a valid account information . I tried everything, the system phone prompt will not allow you to continue past the request of “ entering account number . That was all the money I had and I had just gotten paid. Now I’m not even sure how to get my cash deposit. It’s a terrible and earth shattering experience, to say the least , I highly recommend you avoid at all costs .

Horrible i was waiting on my first card to come in the mail almost two months it was never received. My temporary card started having limited access and i could use my funds anymore. I called the number on the card and the woman issued another and said i should be able to access my funds again. My car was low on gas and my card was still being denied. Couldn’t pay my bills on time this happened yesterday when i called the support number. I called again and the machine said technical difficulties but it wouldn’t affect me being able to use which is a lie. How is my card being declined but the company charging me for a new card to be issued after never receiving it, charging atm fee because i checked the balance and charged the monthly card fee basically just charging me fees and I’m not able to access my own money. The machine hung up on me saying the call volume was high but didn’t give me a hold option. Now saying my new car will come 3/15 which is 10 days away. Awful communication

These cards can be bought as a gift cards and I do not recommend doing so I received a $30 gift card for Christmas they force you to register the card do use it in after registration you were informed that you will be billed monthly $7.95 for a monthly fee for this account you then have to use whatever money is left on the card because they immediately take $7.95 off of it upon your first purchase you have to wait 30 days to cancel or they try to Bill you $7.95 again even though when you buy these cards you pay a fee above the amount that you actually put on which I’m sure his taxes and a small fee from the company for buying their product why would you pay money to somebody to use your money go to your bank and get a free debit cardOr if you’re going to give a gift of money then I would just advise to give the money because most of these cards are the same it’s all a scam they rob people of millions of dollars every year don’t buy into it

Annoyed. I signed up for green dot and it says to do direct deposit so I submitted the info to my job. I got paid but no card in the mail yet. I need my money for food and gas so I contacted greendot to see if there’s anyway to access my money at all (such as using my account and routing number) and they say it’s impossible to access my funds at all until my card comes. Other banks I’ve used will let you access your money while you wait for a card. They will do a wire transfer or you can do it through PayPal with the routing and account number. But that’s not possible with green dot. I will have to wait a week for my card to access my money. I have a son and need my money to feed him. Customer service doesn’t even try to get you help they just give you the same answer over and over then they ex out of the chat. They don’t care about you at all but all they care about is getting paid.

I got this card because it was a cheaper alternative to a normal gift card so I thought I was getting a deal until I had to sign up for it and make an account when I signed up it had &#34;technical difficulties&#34; fair enough so I waited an hour before I started to make it again then it had &#34;technical difficulties&#34; again! And I was almost finished. Then for the 3rd time it said my card was already registered so I tried logging in and I was surprised to be told that I didn&#39;t have an account yet so I had no choice but to go back to square one. I have been trying to order items online and it says that the information I put is incorrect and to try again even though it is correct. So I looked it up and it said I have to review my Address so I went and it said I can&#39;t for &#34;security reasons&#34; so I&#39;m stuck with a useless card that&#39;s just getting drained from monthly fees. Moral of the story DON&#39;T BUY THIS CARD!!!!!!!! Never buying again disappointed and angry!

When I have purchased this card I only put in $15 into it just to buy something that I can only use with card. But when I tried activating it, it took forever so when I finally activated it it says I made transaction and it charged me a maintenance fee so I was furious with this because they never mentioned I had to pay a maintenance fee so that took about $10 from my card and then an extra $5 out for some other things and I was getting angry because no one warned me about this it basically ate up my whole $15 now I requested a refund but they basically give you nothing they hang up on you and I feel so scammed but I recommend no one buys this card EVER. Because they take your money and don’t help you AT ALL. I gave it a try but it just wasn’t for me I would appreciate it if they gave me a refund because this isn’t what I payed for. And please don’t tell me to call or email because I’ve done that but I never got back to.

I&#39;ve had nothing but success with this card! I went through a very difficult time in my life and suffered a financial hardship. The banks were not forgiving, and cause me to go further into debt and additional frustrations with trying to get my children their checking accounts. Green Dot has allowed me to manage all my financial needs to both their website and their app. I love the feature where if I didn&#39;t have the money in there, I don&#39;t get a fee and it just doesn&#39;t pay them. There&#39;s definitely enhancements that can be made but for the most part it does everything that other high-end banks offered! Very happy and please customer. I don&#39;t think I&#39;ll ever go back to the real bank!

I received a card as a wedding gift and activated it. I didn’t input all of the information because I am not planning on putting more money on it. I just want to use the balance that was given on it. However, I realized that there is the 7.50 fee after I registered the card. I do not want to pay that fee over and over again, especially where there won’t be money in this account. I have called the number on the back of the card seven times and have not yet been able to figure it how to cancel my card or speak to a representative. It says that since I don’t have access to all the features on the card I can’t access all the options? Also, what company doesn’t permit you to speak with an actual person? And what company tells you to write a letter with any questions you may have??? That honestly is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. How do you not have an email account?? Mind blowing.

Hi, I am confused about whether I can or will ever in the future be able to make an online purchase with my temporary card. Your website says that “if you got your card at a store, you can register and use the temporary card inside the package to make purchases online or in-store everywhere Visa debit is accepted in the U.S”. Is this information on your own website incorrect? I looked through the other reviews on this app and one of your developer responses reads “one of [the limitations placed on temporary cards] is purchasing. If eligible, you should be able to make online transactions within 8 hours.” Will I ever be eligible to make an online purchase with this card? Please respond, as this is the only venue I have found access to that allows for any sort of personal communication with employees (I searched the website and called the number you provide multiple times already with no luck). Thank you.

Saw the commercial on TV and thought the 3% APR sounded a lot better than the current 2.1% I am currently receiving so I signed up. Yes, I jumped too quickly before researching... after reading a few reviews and finding out there was a high monthly fee and seeing bad reviews, I decided to cancel my account. Of course there is no way to cancel your account on their web site so I called and was on hold 30 minutes (the first time). The CSR I spoke with was very hard to understand and kept saying “Ummmm” and “Uhhhhhh” repeatedly. He wouldn’t cancel my account even though the website says in order to cancel make sure you have a zero balance and to call the number. He had to idea what he was talking about and then refused to transfer my call to a supervisor. I eventually hung up on him and called back. I am currently on hold AGAIN waiting for 27 minutes so far. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TO MY WORST ENEMY!

I gave this card/app a 1 Star because first off you have to pay a $7-8 monthly fee then any time you wish to put money on the card it costs you another $5 every time. However that is not the main reason I am giving this a 1 star. I understand that it is a prepaid card &amp; that it does cost money to use their services. My main issue is you can only use the card to buy things in person... &amp; that’s about it. You can’t use it through Uber or lyft, you can’t use it for just about anything in the apple store, nor can you use it to purchase anything from any other websites... I found this incredibly frustrating &amp; found myself wondering what is the purpose of even having this card &amp; paying all the fees. It comes down to whether or not you would rather have cash in your hand or a plastic card to purchase items in person.

Got my card yesterday for the unlimited cash back checking I’m so excited I switch all banking over love the savings with the 3% I mean what other bank is doing this? App is simple clean and beautiful and works great on my iPhone XS Max love that I can add my card to Apple Pay which I use a-lot the card itself is beautiful and modern. So excited for my future banking with green dot 🙌🏼 Ps. Please add the green dot secured card to the app so we can see our balance and also our checking. I hope they add this feature as I am going to apply for there secured card. Would be nice to have that information in the green dot app as well. The chat feature inside the app works amazing but please also use to chat with representatives inside the app without having to go online on the web. As I do everything mobile going into safari to chat is just a hassle. I love that the chat is inside the app but please make it to where we can actually chat about our account inside the app without going online. Keep up the good updates 🙌🏼

I just purchased this card today. I’m glad that I didn’t put much money on this card. When I downloaded the app to set it up, it was stopping me saying that I wasn’t filling the information out right. Told me that it won’t send me a card in the mail with name on it cause it couldn’t verify me. I’ve lived at the same address for 10+ years. I would have been better off just buying a gift card. I will just use this card to make small purchases. I’m glad that I only put a small amount on this card. Highly disappointed and this was my 1st time ever purchasing a card like this. I’ll definitely do some research on any other card. I would give this 0 star. Green dot, you need to do better on providing better service. I wouldn’t feel comfortable giving my information to have direct deposit in fear of not being able to access my funds.

I like using the prepaid card because I know how much money I have, but I would like to see it on Apple Pay because some many places are going to that now and I would like to see it so where it would have the chip I it. So many places now what the chip to be used instead of having to swipe it.... I don’t know if it is more secure, I really don’t think so because I’m was used and all I can to is swipe it and I had to get a new card and then you have to go and change all your card information everywhere.. It would be nice if it was more like a real debit card although it was still a prepaid debit card.. just my thoughts.. Thanks Deborah, a satisfied customer

This is a scam. I will always regret buying this and never buy one on the front it says no fees and on the back it gives you a list of fees which crap why do I need to pay 7$ a month just to even use it and the fee doesn’t even take place until like an hour after you purchase the card and I even bought something before the fee took place and I couldn’t buy it which is also crap and finally I went to transaction and it doesn’t even show up as a fee so don’t buy this just go to another bank or get a gift card visa. And if green dot reads this fix your marketing and you would think from a company that is literally a bank would fix their app but no cause their a pice of crap and won’t admit fees in the front of their cards unlike other visas that actually don’t have fees

I have been trying to get my debit card fully activated for the last 2 hrs. I’m frustrated to the point of tears. I am not able to get to a live person. I was able to set up the card online with all of my correct details. But the card does not work online. When I first called, I was able to get a live person. This person told me that my card needs to be fully set up, so they transferred me to a specialist. There was no specialist. Instead, I got an automated system that did not recognize my credit card number. I called again and again in the same thing kept happening. Now the automated system will not put me through to a live person because I’ve called too many times. There is no live chat option from the website. I feel like I’ve been duped and I want my money back. Please help!

I’ve had green dot for few years I don’t remember how many. I don’t like that app takes so long to load transactions doesn’t say balance after deduction like computer version does, I don’t like the monthly fee, pay to load money, or minimum balance to load with cash. I really feel they should change that. The fee to load money is crazy when it says on the paperwork I had said it was free retail Stores but guess not. I also don’t like that some places don’t accept the checking account at all just because it’s prepaid. That’s big inconvenience since only card I use for payments. The only I do love early direct deposit. That’s very cool for me.

I wasn’t aware of this monthly fee, I haven’t used my card in a long time. today I put $40 on my card so I could pay my phone bill. It said my balance was $20. I got a “one time” return for one of the months. But now I can’t even take the money off my card or add more money to pay my phone bill so I actually lost out on $40. There’s no way to transfer the funds to your bank account and it charges to get money off the card. This was the biggest waste of my last bit of money. When I called to speak to someone they kept repeating themselves saying there’s a monthly fee and they reversed one of the months. I’m still lost out on $40. I want a full refund for not being warned about this monthly fee. If this doesn’t end well I will never use green dot again and tell everyone I know not to use it.

This would work but I can&#39;t even get past the first screen when setting up my card that I purchased from Walmart. I enter my card details in the register your card screen and then it takes me to a screen where I must create a login. I create login adhering to the restrictions while doing so, and then it says there was an error and that I should try again later. So after this I tried to do it over the phone and the generated responses prompted me to download the app to finish the registration, but the app is broken! Now I&#39;m upset because I put 300 dollars on this card and have absolutely no access to it. Even after this I&#39;ve been trying to get in contact with a representative over the phone and I haven&#39;t had any luck. Please fix this Greendot.

This is the most regrettable purchase I have ever made. After I received confirmation that “This card and pin are now ready to use, but can only be used for purchase transactions. You cannot add money to the card or use it for ATM or cash access.” “The first $7.95 Monthly Charge will be deducted tomorrow or after the first transaction - whichever comes first.” When I attempted to use this waste of plastic and funds, the card was declined, although it clearly said it’s ready to use, (I still have the screen shot). The total amount for my purchase was below the balance on the card, yet it still declined. Do yourself a favor and DON’T EVER BECOME A GREEN DOT REGRETFUL CUSTOMER. Furthermore calling customer service proved to be useless, even after three tries, you can not speak to an actual human, pressing 0, which usually gets you to a human, gets the call disconnected with this waste of a company. One more thing, this waste of plastic can not be used for online purchases, in person only. Their terms indicate that this card can not be used for online gambling, but does not mention online baby product purchases. So forget convenience, this was definitely not designed for that purpose.

Nothing but disappointment and frustration from trying to just activate this card! Every time I try to activate the card online it says it’s already been registered which I have not. That being said I was never aware of the monthly fees or activation fee(not labeled anywhere on the packaging it came in) which now I’m guessing my card must be almost ROBBED dry because it was meant to be a gift until it was returned to me due to the activation issue. Very disappointed! Plus the website and number on that back do nothing since there is no way of contacting an actual person. Keep your money to yourselves people and DO NOT allow this company to STEAL from you like they have to me and many others! Wish there was an option for 0 stars because even the 1 Star is to high of a rating.

So what they don’t tell you is that your balance shown does not include any pending purchases. Just like any ORDINARY BANK. The direct deposit feature ($150) to load a check is just bad business. I don’t have direct deposit at my job and depend on being able to mobile load my pay check. Grab a Netspend and pay just 5 a month and the mobile load feature is immediately available to you. Can even add a spouse. The balance is exact every time and the text alert system accurate. I know at all times what my current balance is. I was excited about the cash back but I get immediate rewards with my Netspend card and they are clickable within the app - lots of cool savings too! Boo I had high hopes.

I have an issue with my Green Dot card where I get charged twice at some restaurants when I tip on the card. The first time it happened the charge was refunded quickly without me having to call. The second time I waited longer and eventually the second charge disappeared but my money wasn’t refunded- when I called green dot they said they had no record of the transaction. I chalked it up to a mistake and it was only $12 so I wasn’t that concerned. The same thing happened about a week ago but for $30 (extra, total $60!). When I called they told me the charge would disappear in a few days... the charge disappeared but I wasn’t refunded again! After my last experience I feel there is no use in calling. Lesson learned about Green Dot I wouldn’t recommend or use them again.

I picked this card up at Wal-Mart, specifically to use with an online/automated purchase. I activated card and tried to use, but I can only use “in-person” because my personal information could not be verified. I have gone through every option on the automated phone service and there is NO WAY to speak to a representative. The website is also completely useless because there is no way to update information or try another verification. Even tried downloading the app and it won’t even log me in, I keep getting an error message that says I must be logged in. If I had known there was a $7.95 monthly fee I would have never bought this card. Save yourself time and trouble because this is the WORST prepaid card/service in existence. American Express Serve is the way to go!

This card is no good for a withdrawal for more than $500, when I was able to take out $1,000 plus. Idk what the story is but $10 for using the card and $3.50 for every transaction. That’s almost $20 a month idk about every one else but I can use that $20. I also signed up when it was $250 cash back and of course they don’t give it. I’ve called idk how many times about this and get the run around if these ppl can even understand me and myself Also THIS IS AMERICA PEOPLE NEED TO Take English classes or something. I’ve absolutely had with getting robbed for my money. Who’s rent is $500, not mine and the last time I called they told me it’s all set to take out to $1000 and to call if there’s a problem. PERSONALLY I DO NOT THINK ANYONE KNOWS WHAT THE HELL THEY ARE DOING AT GREEN DOT.

I bought a GreenDot prepaid Visa card today, I put my whole weeks check on there to pay my bills online. So I go home and try to register the card online and it tells me I can’t do it because their having technical difficulties, after the fifth time trying to register the new card it locks me out and says try again in 24 hours. So I call the phone number on the back and the lady whom made no effort to clarify her English tells me try I can’t help you, this card has to be registered online, try again in 24 hours, or maybe you can try again in a few hours or after midnight...thank you, is there anything else I can help you with and I say “no”. I wouldn’t wish this experience on my worst enemy DO NOT buy this card.

Will not recommend to anyone please do not waste your time!! I still have not received my card it has been a month and a half now and when I call to talk to someone about it the representative is very rude and I don’t even think she was human !! She sounded like she was built in a lab and was placed otp. She was not helpful at all I asked to speak to supervisor she got very silent and then I asked to speak to a human and not a robot the phone hung up I hate green dot . I used it for direct deposit for my part time job but the card is still not here !! They gave me direct deposit info but still I have no card and I cant even spend my money because I don’t HAVE A CARD THAT I AM STILL WAITING ON &amp; have been waiting for a month and a half . Worst prepaid card every you are better off using PAYPAL PREPAID CARD

My dad bought me one of these green dot cards thinking that I was a gift card. I was also given a card by someone else that did the same. I activated one card and I checked the next day and I got a 7.95 charge. I called the customer service number and I asked if I can just activate the card and transfer the money from the 2nd card and pass it over to the one I had activated. The representative did not even answer my questions. She just kept saying it is possible. After like 3 minutes she said that all cards have a maintenance fee. When I asked “How can I close the account” she kept asking me if I wanted to close the account. I only asked her how if I wanted to in the future. The representative did not know how to answer basic questions. So dissatisfied and upset

i bought this card so i could temporarily make online purchases while i was getting a bank account. i signed up and i have my money on my account, but as soon as i enter my information anywhere the card is declined. i called the customer service number &amp; they say my personal information wasn’t correct. so i try to log in on the app to change it and i can’t get in. constantly a notice pops up and says “ you need to log on to green dot to access your account “. completely worthless app. anyways, i log on to my account on the browser and all it shows is my balance, reload, transactions, atm &amp; reload map, fee waiver and log out. there’s no settings for me to edit or even see. i go into card help on the green dot website and find a question “ how to manage my green dot account “ and when i click on it, 3 BLANK bullet points are there with no information. i have completely wasted my time and money for a completely worthless card. HOPEFULLY it works on in-person purchases and i can take all the money back off the card; if not, i don’t know what i’ll do. i wish i could give 0 stars honestly.

I have been a member since 2011 I think and it has been the worst 8 years of my life! Quick story about my experience today I use the vault as my savings so if I need to transfer money I can just use the app to access my funds. Well I’m in the restaurant with my family and friends and I’m like okay let me transfer money so I will be good.. To my surprise I cannot get into my account. the bill came still could not get in I’m on the phone with customer service for an hour only for them to tell me try again later this was six hours ago and I still can’t access MY MONEY.. Do Not get this card they limit how you spend your money they inconvenience you at the worst time and customer service never help..

I had got this card about a few weeks ago. When I read the reviews I was very hesitant about adding money to the card because almost every review was horrible. But I tried &amp; tbh I haven’t had ANY problems with Green Dot. I was able to withdraw money, use it in stores &amp; online. Not sure why everyone else had a horrible experience but it’s a great card. Only reason I gave 4 stars is because that monthly fee is ridiculous. Even though it’s a good card I won’t be using as often because of that fee. But I will keep it handy.

I had a different pre paid card by INSIGHT which is owned by green dot that was the absolute worst through California check cashing DONT USE THEM! This card with the cash back has been awesome. When I had an issue that someone else was using my numbers they made sure to refund the money and get me a new card with out my direct deposit being effected. The app is easy to use and I’ve had it just over a year now and did receive my $100 back cash back just a month ago.

This is awful not only is the app terrible their cards don’t even work i wanted to get a app for my phone and I had family members try to type it in cause maybe I was pressing the wrong button but the tried and it still didn’t work. It would it was not a valid payment method and I had 25 dollars on my card that I would like to get back. Also don’t get me started on their app, it is so bad!!!! Your supposed register your card but you have to make a account and once you register your card you can’t make a account because it will say that doesn’t match our information on files. Overall this is a really bad company and I wouldn’t waste my time using their products because it’s just so awful.

Update: Greendot has done a lot to address not only my concerns but many of the other concerns in the iOS community. I’m raising my rating and recommending this service and app. — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — So the app works great, at least for me, just as advertised. I had some issues with Greendot support and their general business practices but those have since been resolved so I’m raising my rating from one star to three. I’ll keep watching the service and if it remains consistently good I will raise it again.
