Metronomics Metronome
Description
Metronomics is not only a metronome, but a tool designed to help build a solid sense of time and rhythmic security. It's a new kind of metronome -- use Metronomics to generate random patterns, sequenced grooves, or a combination of both to help you practice with more than just your typical click track. Enough features to keep a professional busy for years or start a beginner on the right track. The only metronome that gives you complete control over how subdivisions are played -- add subdivisions of any type (including custom subdivisions like 5/7) and have them played all the time, at random intervals, or in a sequenced pattern. Features: - Choose from 40 different samples for each subdivision, mastered for iOS devices - Generate patterns using random or sequenced variations of different subdivisions - Include built-in preset patterns such as claves or ride cymbal patterns - Choose any number of beats per measure (with any denominator) you like or practice mixed meters such as 4/4 + 3/8 + 5/4 where the segments of the bar get accented automatically - Use any type of subdivision. Common types like quarter notes, sixteenth notes, eighth triplets, etc, or create your own. 5/7, 23/4, no problem! - Take a rhythm and use the "offset" feature to move it to different parts of the measure to practice with. - Set the metronome to speed up or slow down by a given amount after a set number of measures - Have Metronomics start with a count off - Set the metronome to run for a certain amount of time - Share saved metronomes back and forth with other Metronomics users - Track your metronome usage. App shows how much you've practiced with it each day and total (optionally turn off time tracking) - Train yourself with "independence" mode where you can set some bars to be inaudible -- keep the time going yourself until the click starts again - Variable swing feel -- choose how much each subdivision swings - Speech sounds for counting up to 10 that can be assigned to any subdivision (English language only) - Play in the background - AUv3 support -- use Metronomics as an audio unit within other host apps. Ableton Link for sync. - Great battery management -- doesn't drain the battery like many other iOS metronomes - Normalized sounds for good volume - Manual (plus videos) describing how to use all the features and hints about how they might be useful Within Metronomics, there is an option to upgrade to Metronomics Pro, which is an auto-renewing yearly subscription service. It enables the following features: Subscription details: - Service: Metronomics Pro - Time period: one year, auto-renewing subscription - Payment will be charged to iTunes Account at confirmation of purchase - Subscription automatically renews unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24-hours before the end of the current period - Account will be charged for renewal within 24-hours prior to the end of the current period, and identify the cost of the renewal - Subscriptions may be managed by the user and auto-renewal may be turned off by going to the user’s Account Settings after purchase - Privacy policy: https://metronomicsapp.com/privacy.html / Terms of use: https://metronomicsapp.com/terms.html - Any unused portion of a free trial period, if offered, will be forfeited when the user purchases a subscription to that publication, where applicable.
Failed to give click after update

UPDATE: Kudos to Metronomics team, they fixed the problem as fast as Coltrane playing Giant Steps!! —————//-////// I’m on a 5S with ios 12.4.1, and after updating the app, it just stopped working. The app opens up regularly yet when I tap on start nothing happens, no click. Demanding a fix to this.

Some improvements and fix
by Julio 12q on 2019/10/12 12:55
The app have been improving with a lot of option whoever the 6/8 is not working I can not set the metronome to count 6 counts or doing in two count. That time is not working properly
Easy to use and feature rich! (and cowbell)
by Jazztenor87 on 2019/05/27 13:10
Metronomics has been a mainstay metronome for my practice sessions over the past 6 or 7 years. As it is designed by a practicing musician who is excellent at his craft, it is intuitive and fun to use. The app features sliders similar to physical metronomes, allowing for quick adjustments to rhythmic subdivisions. Tap tempo is as easy as tapping the tempo number. Time signatures of any type are easy to manipulate and add accents/subdivisions. However, my favorite feature is the complete control of sounds. Want a bass drum on the downbeat and tambourine on the upbeat? Cowbell on downbeats with an occasional clave upbeat? These are just the beginning. Download this fantastic app now and get to practicing!

Been meaning to review this forever. Finally did so when I got an Apple Watch and, lo and behold, a Metronomics app for the watch shows up! The developer really cares about his apps, and he’s a musician! Best metronome in the App Store.
Had it since the start

It’s an amazing app with so much power. I’ve had it since it first came out. It’s amazing.
The best metronome there is!
by G-Power12345 on 2017/08/06 03:55
This metronome is great! It's wonderful for figuring out polyrhythms, training your sense of time, and much more! I use it every time I practice. Definitely buy this metronome; it's worth it.
Great for polyrhythms

More than a Metronome

This is a versatile and powerful app. There are features that expand on simple metronome usage such as meter, audible/inaudible bars, tempo alteration (ramping). Add to that randomized cross rhythms, rhythm layering, odd meters, and a variety of samples, and you'll have enough tools to practice rhythm from any perspective. Highly recommended.

Great Metronome! It does everything!
by jr104494 on 2017/04/06 20:29
I remember paying $100 for a Dr Beat 15 year ago. This does three times the stuff for only a fraction of the price! Great app.
Incredible!
by Woodsbie on 2016/12/23 01:39
There is no question in my mind that this is now THE standard by which every other metronome should be judged. I hope the sharing gets fixed, but even without that this would get five stars.
Everything from basic to Amazing variety
by Denver Scratch on 2016/11/24 05:39
Anyone from the beginner to a pro will benefit from this app. I've played drums about 35 years. Best metronome for the price anywhere.
Amazing
by Jordankerr1 on 2016/01/26 01:31
One of the best metronome apps on the market. Also one of the easiest to use (I'm a percussionist and needed an app that could sub divide and this was perfect)
Still my go-to metronome
by B'bba on 2015/10/28 14:29
There are now a handful of capable advanced metronomes available for iOS; each with its particular strengths and uses. This original version of Metronomics continues to be my work-horse metronome. Not just for basic time-keeping, but for the kind of learning and goals that keep me growing as a musician. It is extraordinarily flexible and well-designed. The developer releases pretty regular updates to keep it running smoothly. The included sounds are quite good. However, as that is largely a matter of taste, if you want to customize your sound set, you might consider the HD version of the app (available separately) which allows you to import wav samples and share both sounds and presets via iCloud.
Best metronome app out there
by Vtygfdtijbgfj on 2015/10/20 02:33
This thing comes with a ton of tools and features. You can customize time signatures, divisions, and even the sound of the click from a huge variety of sounds. You can make your drum tracks entirely from this app. Definitely a must have for any musician looking for something as simple as a click to their own custom set.
Best app!

Best metronome for the serious musician!
by Bryansmithmusic on 2015/02/18 21:19
This is the best metronome that I have worked with. The polyrhythmic feature by itself is worth the download, not to mention all the other features that come with it. Best metronome for any serious musician!!

by Motor Rhyhtms on 2014/11/16 03:56
This is hands down the best metronome app! The sequencer feature allows you to custom build a metronome with any phrasing imaginable. I set up a click in 19/16 to practice Keep it Greasy. Highly recommend this App.
A great app

Amazing
by bcskater710 on 2014/10/04 01:24
Has the power of metronomes that cost over $100 and gets better with every update. I've been using this for over 2 years. The ONLY THING I think that would make this app BETTER is if there was a voice option for the sound sample that would count the time for you like the nice boss metronomes have
Perfect!
by Sand Mother on 2014/06/29 17:49
No other metronome app has everything this does. I needed to find a met. that I could program to loop, change meters and speed up gradually. This does it and so much more like creating polyrhythms and periodically going silent to test your internal timing. Now I can program a click track to a complicated song and never touch it.
Absolutely fantastic
by Alistair Duncan on 2014/05/02 11:10
I can't recommend this app highly enough. Incredibly user-friendly, flexible, stable, and sounds good. The majority of my metronome usage is a simple click at a simple tempo -- this metronome sounds and works great doing that, of course. But the way that it can be adapted to basically any rhythmic pattern, with full volume control, sound sample control, probability control, has made it an indispensable part of my practicing, especially for complicated rhythmic material with original claves, etc. The ability to save, transfer, and customise is unbeatable, and the price is totally a bargain. This is THE metronome you should get.
Very Happy W Metronomics
by akaChopper on 2014/04/27 22:03
I'm very happy with the Metronomics application, especially with the ability to easily set a swing time. If there is another product with the power and ease of use that his has, I'm not aware of it. For music practice this is a great product. I agree with the reviewer who suggests a voice count option a la Boss, but other than that can't think of any lacks in this app.
Best metronome
by Shredtasticbeest on 2014/01/19 18:08
This is actually better than an 160 dollar metronome from Sam ash. It can do weird time signatures, polymeter and polyrhythm. It's awesome. Plus you can swap clicks for drum sounds. I've got rhythms that sound like gnarly metal drummers on here. Very satisfying
Best Metronome!!
by dusticero on 2014/01/19 01:39
Features I never even thought I needed and now can't do without! Wonderful product, well thought out design, highly recommended.
Best of the Metronome Apps!
by eyeruh on 2014/01/16 00:48
I've probably gone thru a dozen different metronome apps but with the latest release of Metronomics, I finally have everything I want in a metronome in one app. It's very flexible and full-featured but the interface is way more intuitive than the other apps I've tried. I've also found the author to be very responsive so I couldn't be happier.
Best metronome for iOS
by Metronomics on 2013/11/05 18:20
Metronomics is a great tool — easy to use and has all the features you could want in a metronome. It has everything I need as a professional player and is great for my less experienced students, too. The new interface looks great and the new animated subdivisions are a nice touch as are the new options to speed up/slow down over time.
Metronomics Metronome
by Randy Rollofson on 2013/11/04 19:22
Metronomics is the most versatile metronome I've seen. It seems to have an almost endless number of features for customization. The random rhythm option makes this app very unique and fun to practice with. Great for beginners as well as pros!
So simple, but mind-bogglinigly flexible
by self11 on 2013/10/30 20:20
This has been my daily use metronome for years now. There's nothing in your way when you want to just want to sit down and practice, but the possibilities are limitless when you want to challenge yourself or need to figure out something complicated. Add and subtract custom subdivisions and rhythms, choose from a range of great sounds, and save metronomes to use later or share with students and colleagues. And I still can't get over how brilliant the mixed meter screen is.
Good
by TheScottishPole on 2013/10/21 04:18
It works well, but the app has actually gotten significantly uglier these past two revisions.
Great metronome!
by Brett69/420 on 2013/09/25 00:48
Worth every penny. Makes practicing a lot more fun, too. I am not a fan of the iOS7 interface though... Way too bright, white, and hurts my eyes to use it... Like most of the iOS7 updates.
Too white
by Merrygoat on 2013/09/22 04:03
App still works beautifully as it always has, but the new color scheme is off putting, liked the old one much better
Helps me write polyrhythms.
by DrummerMat11 on 2013/08/21 23:43
This is the only app I've ever paid for. I would recommend this to any musician, especially any drummer. I use this to write complicated drum fills or polyrhythmic drum grooves and listen to how it sounds. It has many selection sounds of a full basic drumset and you sequence them to write out quick little parts. After I've created it and listened, I slow it down then learn it on my drumset. Worth every penny!! Glad I bought this app.
Infinite possibilities
by Jaazzzer on 2013/08/09 03:57
This metronome is extremely customizable. Goes up to 500 bpm, you can select any beats that you want to hear in a measure. You can do anything that any other metronome can do and more as far as I know. The possibilities are more or less infinite, as there really aren't any noticeable restrictions. Buy this metronome if you want something that can handle any sort of rhythmic feel or situation that you could ever think of. Also, thank you for making this!
Inexpensive yet priceless
by Cranky "D" on 2013/06/04 00:12
My drum set drowned out my old metronome. Practice meant counting out and often stopping (my bad habit). I can now hear thanks to a headset. The available options makes repetitive exercises bearable thus allowing for a efficient practice. This app was purchased solely on recommendations, ad my name to the list.
No Set List
by This is my dang nickname! on 2013/05/10 17:16
This app is so close. How could there be no front page accessible set list? If you'll add a set list function under which I can save songs and access them with increment/decrement buttons I'll change my rating to a 5!
Very hip metronome app!
by saxshell on 2013/04/10 07:16
Great sounds that are easy to change. Endless subdivision choices. 500bpm!! And best of all it has accurate settings of bpm (unlike many metronome apps that I have used). A highly recommended practice tool created by a musician for musicians!
Wonderful & Addictive!
by cumbaw on 2013/04/09 20:04
This is the 4th metronome I've bought from the App Store and it has become my hands-down favorite. In fact I can't tear myself away from it! The ability to mute a user-defined number of measures is a KILLER feature. In my genre we play a lot of dance tunes with 8- bar parts. With this app I can make the clicks audible for the first 8 measures then mute the next 8 measures and so on ad infinitum. This is incredibly useful in that it lets me see if I am speeding up or slowing down. I do this by closing my eyes and listening to see if I land back on the beat when the click starts again. I can feel my groove getting steadier after just 24 hours! Letting the user define the number of measures that are audible vs. those that are in audible are what sets this app apart from another app that mutes the beats randomly. That sounded cool at first, but in practice I found that the intervals of audible clicks vs. inaudible clicks were much too short to pose a challenge. Not so with Metronomics. This app gives YOU complete control to set the bar as high or low as you want. So get Metronomics -- you won't be disappointed. Love, love, love this app!

by Funroman on 2012/07/05 20:08
Goodbye Dr. Beat. I really like the sound choices. Perhaps add a visa blue square under the subdivision that would blink - that subdivision. Nice visual cue option (turn on/off switch) to help teach students. I'm a 25+ year music teacher.
Excellent Metronome
by AES Professional Musician on 2012/06/23 13:59
Works great. I prefer it over the Dr. Beat ($120) that I have been using for the last 2-3 years. The option to have the metronome be silent for a selected number of measures is particularly useful.

Good but needs better sounds
by Water Giant on 2012/06/10 19:56
The concept and implementation of this metronome are innovative and relatively user friendly. It is one of the few metronomes with polyrhythmic functions and self-timing training where the beat can be silenced in several ways, helping you develop your own sense of time internally without robotic reliance on the click. In those regards, everything works as advertised and the click is completely accurate. However, where this app falls short, and the reason I don't use it much is the poor quality of sounds. There are only two from the list that I find practical to use while I practice drums. The rest are either harsh, too squashed sounding, have poor fades on the end, or they don't cut enough to be heard clearly. This app is very well thought out and designed, and since its shortcomings can be overcome, I'm giving it 3 out of 5 stars. More attention to useful sounds is the only thing lacking, although that's a somewhat large drawback.
Complicated
by Marcelw123 on 2012/05/29 01:29
Maybe it's me....maybe it's because I don't know how to read music, but I think this app is complicated to use. I'm sure it does all kinds of good things, but I just wanted something simple that gives me the timing like a real traditional Metronome. Plus, I think the price is pretty steep.
Best app ever

My sax teacher made this app and it is great it is fun to play with and works great for keeping beat. I use this to practice all the time now.

I was just looking for a metronome app but this is much much more than that. It has features beyond my wildest expectations, an intuitive and easy user interface, excellent documentation and much more. by Astrokal on 2011/10/30 00:28
You can create patterns like "tisra jati triputa talam" (3+2+2) VERY easily with this. It also adds random variations, so it is almost like playing with a live drummer, which makes practice much less tedious and much more enjoyable for a longer time. Well worth the modest cost.
Volume so low
by Request volume up on 2011/10/24 03:42

by jazzsaxguy on 2011/10/07 22:20
Love it! Great practice tool, and very flexible in terms of usefulness. I love using the sequencer to build patterns to practice over, and the randomization features are interesting as well. My wish list for future versions would be a ride cymbal sound added to the available sound set.
Best app for polyrhythms
by Joshcello on 2011/08/08 22:35
Having just learned a piece for the Wellesley Composers Conference that required playing 7 in the time of 2, 7:4, and 7:5, I tried out the apps Metron and Polyrhythm before coming across Metronomics. For flexibility and especially the ability to alternate with silent bars to test your own subdividing, this is the best app I have yet found for practicing complex polyrythms.
The Perfect Practice Tool
by nalef on 2011/07/25 07:14
I bought this app on the advice of a friend, and I was skeptical at first whether I would fully utilize all the features packed into this app. I have to say I'm beyond impressed with the sequencer (which is surprisingly user-friendly) and the flexible subdivision menu is very useful. This thing has an unbelievable set of tricks up its sleeves, things I never would have expected a metronome to do. My favorite feature by far, however, has to be "independence" mode, which for me is a fantastic tool to practice my timekeeping. As a professional musician I will definitely work this into my regular practice routine.
Best metronome app!!!

This is a must have tool for musicians of any skill level. There are so many options and customizable settings to help work on your time. Great job!!!
The best metronome there is!
by G-Power12345 on 2017/08/06 03:55
This metronome is great! It's wonderful for figuring out polyrhythms, training your sense of time, and much more! I use it every time I practice. Definitely buy this metronome; it's worth it.
Had it since the start
by Arush A on 2018/06/16 03:17
It’s an amazing app with so much power. I’ve had it since it first came out. It’s amazing.
Best metronome available

Title says it all. Super futuristic features.
Great for polyrhythms
by Tbonebarkley on 2017/07/04 05:12
It's an awesome metronome. I use it all the time.
Best metronome app ever!
by Micolucci on 2012/02/23 10:22
I was just looking for a metronome app but this is much much more than that. It has features beyond my wildest expectations, an intuitive and easy user interface, excellent documentation and much more. It not only provides just about any beat or rhythm I needed but also has taught me much about them. A lot of thought went into this app. I highly recommend it
Best of the Metronome Apps!
by eyeruh on 2014/01/16 00:48
I've probably gone thru a dozen different metronome apps but with the latest release of Metronomics, I finally have everything I want in a metronome in one app. It's very flexible and full-featured but the interface is way more intuitive than the other apps I've tried. I've also found the author to be very responsive so I couldn't be happier.
Amazing
by bcskater710 on 2014/10/04 01:24
Has the power of metronomes that cost over $100 and gets better with every update.
Great app!
by jazzsaxguy on 2011/10/07 22:20
Love it! Great practice tool, and very flexible in terms of usefulness. I love using the sequencer to build patterns to practice over, and the randomization features are interesting as well. My wish list for future versions would be a ride cymbal sound added to the available sound set.
Very Useful and Unique Metronome
by Migroddy on 2011/05/20 20:34
I loved this metronomish app immediately. Very clear, user-friendly controls. Especially like the randomized subdivisions making it feel more like your practicing to a groove. I expect I'll be using this metronome above all others on my iPhone.
Incredible!
by Woodsbie on 2016/12/23 01:39
There is no question in my mind that this is now THE standard by which every other metronome should be judged. I hope the sharing gets fixed, but even without that this would get five stars.
Suitable for Carnatic beats
by Astrokal on 2011/10/30 00:28
You can create patterns like "tisra jati triputa talam" (3+2+2) VERY easily with this. It also adds random variations, so it is almost like playing with a live drummer, which makes practice much less tedious and much more enjoyable for a longer time. Well worth the modest cost.
Best metronome for the serious musician!
by Bryansmithmusic on 2015/02/18 21:19
This is the best metronome that I have worked with. The polyrhythmic feature by itself is worth the download, not to mention all the other features that come with it. Best metronome for any serious musician!!
Thank You
by Funroman on 2012/07/05 20:08
Goodbye Dr.
Impressive!!
by skootz on 2011/11/14 02:06
I was initially intrigued by this non-traditional take on a very common music tool. After ten minutes I'm completely sold! Easy to program and save. Won't be buying a Dr. Beat anytime soon;)
This metronome
by That alto player on 2015/09/11 23:16
This metronome has helped me so much with learning time. I'm not able to play fast things at normal time while still knowing where the upbeat is!
Everything from basic to Amazing variety
by Denver Scratch on 2016/11/24 05:39
Anyone from the beginner to a pro will benefit from this app. I've played drums about 35 years. Best metronome for the price anywhere.
Awesome App!
by Motor Rhyhtms on 2014/11/16 03:56
This is hands down the best metronome app! The sequencer feature allows you to custom build a metronome with any phrasing imaginable. I set up a click in 19/16 to practice Keep it Greasy. Highly recommend this App.
Complicated
by Marcelw123 on 2012/05/29 01:29
Maybe it's me....maybe it's because I don't know how to read music, but I think this app is complicated to use. I'm sure it does all kinds of good things, but I just wanted something simple that gives me the timing like a real traditional Metronome. Plus, I think the price is pretty steep.
Best Metronome!!
by dusticero on 2014/01/19 01:39
Features I never even thought I needed and now can't do without! Wonderful product, well thought out design, highly recommended.
Great practice tool
by TonyFitzgerald on 2011/11/13 07:27
Easy to use -- tons of features, many of which are useful even for professional players. Custom subdivisions are a nice touch.
Killer metronome app!
by Scrapey on 2011/05/30 18:04
What a great idea for a metronome app - it doesn't just pound out quarter notes, this thing will actually help improve your ability to keep time.
Great practice tool
by wmarshguitarist on 2013/04/08 21:15
This is a great practice tool! It makes you wonder why nobody thought of it before. Cool options that are unavailable on other metronome apps.
Too white
by Merrygoat on 2013/09/22 04:03
App still works beautifully as it always has, but the new color scheme is off putting, liked the old one much better
