The app sporadically quits and will often forget your account. As a result, customers are forced to authenticate their credentials every time they want to watch a show. This happens on both the mobile and TV app. As to their new promotional question: What to watch after GOT? -Nothing on this network. Your lack of commitment ruined the ending to what could have been HBOs equivalent to the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. I refuse to give my time and money to a network that lacks the commitment to fully support their content. #TheNorthRemembers

Despite having an iPad Pro with the most up to date iOS, this app crashes consistently when opening. I have to delete and redownload and re-sign in almost once a week. It’s very disappointing for a brand that I trust for entertainment. I expect the app to work just as well.

I really wish Apple didn’t down play HDR on their newer phones that support it. It also would be cool if app developers would add HDR support to their apps and have a place somewhere saying it supports HDR. Hint hint HBO please! I have spent over 3 hours with tech support. Finally they went in and reset the cache on THEIR END for MY account. Had me reinstall the apps and the crap turned to gold. The only device that is plagued with endless problems is their HBO GO website and streaming in there. Loads of issues. If you make the mistake of backing up 10 seconds with their onscreen icon. The playback crashes and the list goes on. The. You have to hunt for the series locate the season and episode you are watching and it starts past the point I wanted it to. Is you try and scroll backwards it CRASHES. IT IS past 2:00 AM. I am not proof reading this tonight. Would nice to know why it took so long. And you need to update your description full screen on my older iPad Air plays in full screen if you want to. The sizing is not accurate HBO NEEDS to reduce full screen image by 5% to 7% so we can see titles and credits properly. Thanks HBO

This app makes me so mad because it always signs me out, even when I hit keep me signed in. And every time I have to sign in again I have to change my email password because it’s hooked up to my tv provider. My email makes me change my password because of this app.

We’ve been trying to sign up for HBO Go for weeks, and every time it says it doesn’t recognize our Spectrum account. The error message gave a number to call, and it turned out to be Spectrum’s number - but there isn’t an issue with our Spectrum account. EDIT: We’ve already tried everything in the dev response, including filling out that support form.

In an age where everything is streamed, this app is the lowest of the low. A. Slowest loading time out of all other apps. B. Works maybe half the time. C. Interface is unacceptable. D. I feel as if I’m watching the blue dots more than my show. E. It has been like this for as long as I had it. Please @developers please explain to me why this app is so subpar to all of the other streaming apps. I would understand if you were a small company, but your not you have no excuse.

HBO: stay classy, your app is fine. Low reviewers: it’s a streaming video app. If you don’t have a plan that allows you to stream without worry, how is that HBO’s fault? Interface hanging or unresponsive? Have you reset your device or, I dunno, upgraded past an iPhone 5S? Never had an issue on my IP7 or iPad 10.5 so perhaps you need some upgraded hardware. Let me guess, you’re trying to run Mojave on a PowerBook G4... I love how you tear DirectTV and Att a new one on a review for THE HBO GO APP. 🤦🏻‍♂️

I’ve got a quality sound system, everything sounds great on that system, except for HBO Go. I constantly have to crank the volume up to max. However, it’s usually only dialogue that’s extremely low, so everything else end up being way too loud.

The only reason I have hbo is for game of thrones and there is always an issue before I watch it. Like right now, it’s lagging and its the season finale. Update: Today HBOGO is working on all my streaming devices. I am giving it 3 stars until I can further test it out. I hope everyone else is having the same experience. First, I am tired of having my review deleted without any explanation. No profanity just truth. The truth is since AT* took over Directv, Directv Now and HBO everything has gone downhill. Second, After several tech calls to Directv they verified there is a problem with HBO Go. Apparently it is a global problem as people with other services have the same issue. Third, This is not a standalone IPAD app problem, it's the same on my Roku and even the Directv mobile App. In others words, across all my streaming devices. Fourth, what steps have you laid out in these reviews? Explain what it's.bo/Go-Apple-iOS or any of the other nonsensical strings you put in reviews are. Are we to guess how one would use this? It's not a link or anything you can use in the Safari browser. It feels like a nonstarter to me that is a diversion from really offering any real help. There is not even a customer phone number for HBO. Even Directv was stunned by this. Fifth, there is no good faith offer from HBO to offer a money back resolution or even a free month until it's sorted out. Thanks for ruining another service AT*.

If you are at a hotel or using slower DSL, don’t count on using this app. For some reason, the app is far worse then the website, which is barely usable at slow speeds. If it even plays at all. HBO’s lack of care shines in this app’s streaming reliability.

I have used the app many times before and never had a problem signing in. It has been some time since I last used the application; so i was prompted to sign in. Selected my tv provider and then goes to a blank screen. No option to enter username or password. Again try to select my tv provider thinking it may need refreshed and again directs me to a blank screen. Go to sign in on a desktop computer and get a “This site can”t be reached” when i go to sign in on that website. Not sure what’s going on but would love to be able to sign and and make use of the application on a device as well as on a desktop computer.

Apparently there are too many devices streaming HBO right now, but I’ve only ever streamed HBO on my phone and laptop. And I signed out of my HBO account on my laptop because it wouldn’t let me stream on my phone. Argh, this is so frustrating! I now see why this app has such horrible reviews.

I like the idea of watching HBO on my phone but there are frequent crashes that make watching movies difficult. I suggest fixing the bugs and possibly allowing people to download episodes and movies on different devices. Maybe add a family account feature where you can add your spouse or kid to the same account which might improve other issues.

This is the worst app. It refuses to recognize my account. I’ve have to create a new password and user id. I have everything verified and it still refuses to sign me in. It’s like being on a hamster wheel going around and around and getting nowhere. Even though I have to select a star rating, I’m giving it zero stars in my review.

I’ve tried all troubleshooting and this app still does not recognize I have HBO through DirectTV. I’ve called DirectTV/Att and spoken to their tech support and general customer service. Fully activated HBO and can sign into the direct tv app just fine to watch whatever.

I have DirectTV Puerto Rico as my TV provider and my subscription includes HBO. For almost 2 weeks I’ve been trying to watch HBO series on app but I can’t even sign in. I follow all the steps but the app tells me: “There is a problem with your account. We cannot validate your information, please contact Customer Service.” I don’t have a problem with my account, I can sign in to the DirectTV app without any issue. I only have a problem with the HBO GO app. PLEASE HELP!!!

This app is the worst streaming app I’ve ever used, and I’ve used several. It will generally play on my phone, but if I cast to my chrome cast it will pause and load about every 30 seconds and the image is blurry. None of the other apps- Hulu, Netflix, YouTubeTV, etc., do this. Watch HBO any other way- do not rely on this terrible app. I was contacted by HBO offering to help me reset my Chromecast(which I of course already did). I am not having problems with my Chromecast- EVERY other streaming app works fine with it. Only HBO GO lags, pauses, and is blurry. Once again, watch HBO any other way, do not use this terrible app.

When I’m on the “GO”, I’m usually not on WiFi. As such, I turn off WiFi and would expect my robust cellular data with a great provider to get the job done. I was excited about this app for about five minutes before realizing I have to try ten times before the show actually loads. And even then, I can’t get through five minutes without it freezing and trying to load. This app doesn’t work. Period.

Overall disappointing, the app lags out on me and closes, sometimes the screen just goes black and I have to restart the whole app while I’m in the middle of a show. The website is no better either, I can’t press the 10 seconds back button without it taking me to another page it’s so frustrating and really ruins the experience. I’ll be looking forward to future updates that fixes these problems and the other problems people are listing

I have 8 HBO channels with DirecTv but HBO GO won’t let me even get started. The second I try to login, it rejects me saying I don’t have HBO with my TV Provider. I’ve called many times. Yes. I do. Have HBO. 8 times over, in fact. I’ve tried contacting HBO help, but every correspondence is like starting over from the beginning. “Hi. I’m here to help. Updated again 5/5/19: my iPad did not recognize Charter/Spectrum as my provider. I signed out of Charter on my iPad then signed back in under Spectrum and now the HBO Go app works. That may help others who are having the same problem. Updated 5/4/19: I tried the steps to get in to HBOGo from the link as the representative said below and still can not get in to the app. It still shows three blinking dots but nothing else, then times out after entering Spectrum as my provider in the log in screen. I also contacted HBO with my information as the representative asked. Still not a happy customer. If something works so I can get in, I will change my 1 star rating for the HBO app. I really do not want to leave such a horrible review and hope HBO does whatever is necessary to make me a happy customer once again. HBO Go used to work on my iPad in the past but now it does not recognize Spectrum when I try to log in. I am paying for HBO but am not getting all of what I am paying for. What gives?

Update: Today HBOGO is working on all my streaming devices. I am giving it 3 stars until I can further test it out. I hope everyone else is having the same experience. First, I am tired of having my review deleted without any explanation. No profanity just truth. The truth is since AT* took over Directv, Directv Now and HBO everything has gone downhill. Second, After several tech calls to Directv they verified there is a problem with HBO Go. Apparently it is a global problem as people with other services have the same issue. Third, This is not a standalone IPAD app problem, it's the same on my Roku and even the Directv mobile App. In others words, across all my streaming devices. Fourth, what steps have you laid out in these reviews? Explain what it's.bo/Go-Apple-iOS or any of the other nonsensical strings you put in reviews are. Are we to guess how one would use this? It's not a link or anything you can use in the Safari browser. It feels like a nonstarter to me that is a diversion from really offering any real help. There is not even a customer phone number for HBO. Even Directv was stunned by this. Fifth, there is no good faith offer from HBO to offer a money back resolution or even a free month until it's sorted out. Thanks for ruining another service AT*.

Yes, it does let me watch HBO on the GO but it requires either WiFi or cellular. Even with the “WiFi only” selected it will just give notification and if you click it off, it will just use data... the app needs offline playback soooo bad. The rating is based on the lack of that feature. The menu is what it is, could also be a lot better but the one thing I’d love to see is offline playback. The data use per episode is roughly 0.75GB and unless you’re on an unlimited plan, that will add up super quickly. Even if you only allow downloads for original content (like Netflix does) it would be worth it since that’s what most of us are here for anyways.

It’s not like HBO doesn’t know this is the case - in trying to make themselves about the content as opposed to being Netflix they’ve slacked hard on the interface. Forget curated content, they need to focus on updating this so it’s not glitchy/slow/unresponsive/poor when working. At this point the cost benefit of watching HBO over other places turns on the quality of the service not the content. It’s sad too because it’s another case where HBO has fallen behind resting on its own content laurels unable to see that access to and means of watching is more important - prime example of a company that went after top grads and candidates for their content group and then just filled hired the first resumes in on the UI team

I have had this app for quite some time and have been using it without any issue. I have been very happy with it. Now all of a sudden I cannot watch anything. When I try to watch something it prompts me to log in - that’s fine, I have no problem with that. But when I log in to my cable provider, I’m prompted to add HBO to my subscription, but I already have it. I even tried selecting the option to add HBO to my plan, but then I get the message that I already have it and to open the app. I go back to the app and the cycle starts all over again. I tried deleting the app and reinstalling it, but with no luck. Very frustrated. 😡 I love so many of HBO’s original series, but maybe it’s time to pull the plug.

Half the time the app does not work... it either stays black and doesn’t load on my phone or glitches and exits out of the app entirely. Then to try and watch a video is another frustrating venture. Sometimes it works and lets you watch a few episodes in a row without interruption. But most of the time I have to open up the app and restart everything just to try and get everything to load. Get better technology people HBO. I mean seriously you think you’d already have it with a 2 star rating... to have to pay extra for the service in the first place is ridiculous for it not to be working seamlessly.

This is a good app but those of you having trouble signing in. Try to turn off the HBO GO under the TV Provider that allows HBO GO to automatically sign in under your tv provider. For some reason this doesn’t work the way it should. You will have to look for your tv provider under the long list of providers, but this should work by doing it this way. Good luck 👍 Update: The HBOGO app for the AppleTV, this app shouldn’t sign you out automatically. HBO doesn’t seem like that there is a problem with that. All I want is to still be signed in, unless I want to sign myself out. Simple

I have no problems with this app at all, and use it all the time! It works great on my 4G network, so any issues are most likely with reviewer’s network, not the app itself. SOME carriers throttle data for streaming, so check your contracts! The best feature is how real-time it is- I can start something on my phone then immediately hit continue watching from my TV and it picks up exactly where I left off, and visa Versa!

i have been using HBO go for about a month and i get signed out about every week which is no problem i guess. but this last time it signed me out i have not been able to sign back in. i chose my tv provider then it takes me to a loading screen which lasts about 3 minutes then after it’s done loading it takes me to a grey screen where on the bottom it says chose your tv provider and when u click it takes you back where you started. absolutely ridiculous i have tried re starting my phone and deleting and re downloading the app. i just wanna watch game of thrones.

The main reason I got this app was to cast to my TV as I don’t have cable in my bedroom at school. This app’s chrome/smart cast functionality is terrible. I have yet to get it to work where it doesn’t error out after trying to cast a movie or episode to my smart TV. Also when connected to your smart tv you cannot tap any movie or show to get it to play, causing me to have to disconnect, navigate back to the movie or show, press play then try and reconnect to cast only to get an error again. Such a trash and poorly developed feature that other apps I’ve used had no problem doing.

I never know if I’m actually going to be able to stream anything from my app or not. Most of the time I need to wait and keep checking to see if the streaming icon shows up. Sometimes it can take over an hour. I’ve done all the troubleshooting that’s recommended and, when it does show up, I haven’t done anything to show me what to do the next time. It just eventually shows up. When I want to watch, I want to watch. I know this is a first world problem but there’s no reason why an app needs to be this unreliable. The reviews prove that something needs to be done.

I don’t know about other people writing review but HBO GO with the AT&T plan work out for me pretty good. I have on my IPad, IPhone and Apple TV. The App gives me no trouble and I haven’t had problem since I got the Directv now plan in 2017. I’m lucky enough to stick around and be grandfather in the live little plan. HBO have some tweets and bugs but that like anyother Apps. HBO GO works fine with me.

The content on hbo is top notch, however the app interface and settings are terrible. For example I am in the middle of watching something, then press the home button to so something on another app. Then I come back to hbo and it has had a spell of amnesia. It never remembers what I was watching, or lists anything in a recently played/watched section. So every time I open it I have to navigate to it, remember what episode I’m on and go from there. Unbelievably frustrating for such an easy fix.

Overall disappointing, the app lags out on me and closes, sometimes the screen just goes black and I have to restart the whole app while I’m in the middle of a show. The website is no better either, I can’t press the 10 seconds back button without it taking me to another page it’s so frustrating and really ruins the experience. I’ll be looking forward to future updates that fixes these problems and the other problems people are listing

It’s working perfectly fine for me. I use my college login and everything so I can watch Game of Thrones and I haven’t encountered any problems using the mobile app on WiFi or LTE. I can pick up right where I left off and it’s great. I’m not sure how it works on other devices, but it’s working fine for me personally.

Can’t do anything. Keeps forcing me to sign in. I am both a DirecTV subscriber, and an HBO subscriber. And yet, every time I try and sign in on this app it says “having trouble verifying your account. Would you like to sign in using a different TV provider?” What a bad joke!! Think about this, I hardly enjoy HBO as it is. Why would I subscribe to HBO more than once?? Even better, since I only have one TV provider, do you think the average person is going to have multiple tv providers?? The average person is cord cutting and doesn’t even want 1 tv provider!!

Most of the time that I start the app, the navigation bar is missing, leaving no way to login. I tried deleting the app and starting from scratch. Same problem. Tapping on any of the video previews from the home screen pushes to a blank black screen. The black screen has literally nothing on it. No back button, no nav bar, and nothing indicating that content is being loaded (waited awhile regardless). Essentially you’re stuck on this black screen!! Intermittently, I have seen the menu and been able to tap sign in. But tapping sign-in keeps me on a loading screen that surprise surprise doesn’t load anything. A few minor bugs are understandable, but this app literally has zero functionality. As it stands, HBO or Apple should remove this app from the App Store. I’m on an iPhone XS Max, iOS 12.2, and have tried both on LTE and very fast WiFi.

This app used to work fine. With a recent update, forced me to login again. Have tried to login with provider DirectTV Now half dozen times. Initial login screen hangs for almost 2 minutes just to bring up list of providers. Once up, choose DirectTV Now. Type email but unable to paste PW and if you go out of app to view PW (I use PW manager), you are forced to go through this all over again. Painful. I tried deleting app and reinstalling and also removing HBO GO from TV app - did not help. Horrible experience and I’ve given up. Need to fix this.

Ok... let me start off by saying that I have an account and it works perfectly fine on my PS4 and on my desktop. I type in my sign in information and BOOM I can enjoy what HBO Go has to offer.... try to sign onto the app? NOPE! I get told that my sign in information is incorrect every single time and then it locks the account... what the hell? You guys need to seriously fix your app for iPad/iPhone. I literally type the same exact information in when I sign in on my computer and have zero issues. I would’ve even rate this app a 1 star.

I like the idea of watching HBO on my phone but there are frequent crashes that make watching movies difficult. I suggest fixing the bugs and possibly allowing people to download episodes and movies on different devices. Maybe add a family account feature where you can add your spouse or kid to the same account which might improve other issues.

I am prompted to verify my login every single time I log in to HBO. Even while remaining logged in to the app, I have to validate the on-screen verification which makes me go through a list of providers I have zero involvement with as I purely am using HBO Go to avoid having a cable company. Out of the six times we have used this, it has been a back and forth between phones and television to set it up every single time.

The app sporadically quits and will often forget your account. As a result, customers are forced to authenticate their credentials every time they want to watch a show. This happens on both the mobile and TV app. As to their new promotional question: What to watch after GOT? -Nothing on this network. Your lack of commitment ruined the ending to what could have been HBOs equivalent to the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. I even logged in normally on another page just to make sure. So I was offered HBO Go for free through my school. So I decided to go and give it a go and hop on this Game of Thrones wave while it lasted. While the service works well on my xbox, the mobile app has been a complete disaster so far. For starters, most of the time I cannot even use the app. For the record, the only two devices that I use to watch HBO are my xbox and my phone (well I try). Whenever I have tried to use my phone, I have gotten error messages telling me that I am streaming on too many devices at once. So what do I do? I go check that my HBO is turned off on my Xbox. Check. Then I try the phone again, and to my (un)suprise, nothing has changed. Then I unplugged my xbox completely, hoping that this would rectify this. Still no change. If I cannot stream on my phone, then how can this app be effective? Completely disappointed in HBO.

I have to login/sign on every single time I want to use the app. Why can all the other streaming apps remember my info and keep me signed in and HBO cannot? I was provoked to write a review this time because now since I’ve updated the app and signed in again I see you don’t have a “popular/recommended” selection for the movies. I can only choose by genre or scroll through all. And you’ve had some movies on your list for 10+ years I swear.

The app is broken. I charged my phone to 100%. Open the HBO Go app and first it doesn’t load. Restarted my phone by hard reset. Then open app again, got to splash screen and asking me to sign in. Pressed sign in. Waited 5 minutes and it’s still signing in... meanwhile my battery has dropped down to 93%. When I close the app and restarted my phone again. It drop down to 90%. The app is broken and now I want my money back because HBO subscription is no longer worth it.

Hi. This is actually a good app. It used to work only with WiFi and cellular but that’s not even the problem. I used it almost everyday but suddenly it just stopped working. I deleted it and uploaded it again and now I’m not able to use it because it’s an US app and now I can’t what my stuff, I can’t even open the app, it doesn’t let me. I have 8 HBO channels with DirecTv but HBO GO won’t let me even get started. The second I try to login, it rejects me saying I don’t have HBO with my TV Provider. I’ve called many times. Yes. I do. Have HBO. 8 times over, in fact. I’ve tried contacting HBO help, but every correspondence is like starting over from the beginning. “Hi. I’m here to help. Please provide me with this information...” You mean the same info that I’ve sent 4 times already? That same info that’s attached in your email? Copied in the thread. I can see it right there. OMG. Holy crap, is this the worst app I’ve ever used. I’m signed out every week and my direct tv now password is never valid when signing back in. Usually, I have to reset my password each time I want to use this. Tried to login today and now I can’t even get in the app after resetting my password + uninstalling/reinstalling the app. I’d give this zero stars if I could since it’s now utterly useless to me. 21 versions of the app and it’s still littered with defects. Do you guys take any pride in your work?

When this app works, it’s good. The UI is nothing special, but that’s par for the course across all their supported devices. Cumbersome and behind the times seems to be the motive here. It isn’t pretty, but it works. The problem is once you begin watching something it hangs, often multiple times an episode or movie, requiring a full restart of the app. This app has potential, but it falls short.

App won’t let me sign in at all. Sometimes it will load acting like it will, but never actually does anything. I’ve already left another review about this problem before the previous update and was told to contact the developers, which I did. No solution yet. And looking at the other reviews this is not an isolated problem. I’m sure I’m not alone in wishing this would get fixed before GoT comes back.

The thing I hate about this app is that there is no way to read a description of what something is about. Or who the actors are. What it is rated. What were the reviews by critics and fans. What year the movie/show was released. Absolutely nothing. The only thing you can do is play the content. So what I do is I flip back and forth between the app and Google trying to figure out what to watch.

Although I pay for Hbo through my cable provider, the app still has the ordacity to tell me that they cannot verify my subscription through my tv provider. No matter how many calls, removing and re adding the app, or even using my tv provider wifi it still denies me. My next step will be removing Hbo from my account al together. There is not point in paying for hbo if i cannot watch it where ever i want. Signed Disappointed.

I have DirectTV Puerto Rico as my TV provider and my subscription includes HBO. For almost 2 weeks I’ve been trying to watch HBO series on app but I can’t even sign in. I follow all the steps but the app tells me: “There is a problem with your account. We cannot validate your information, please contact Customer Service.” I don’t have a problem with my account, I can sign in to the DirectTV app without any issue. I only have a problem with the HBO GO app. PLEASE HELP!!!

When I’m on the “GO”, I’m usually not on WiFi. As such, I turn off WiFi and would expect my robust cellular data with a great provider to get the job done. I was excited about this app for about five minutes before realizing I have to try ten times before the show actually loads. And even then, I can’t get through five minutes without it freezing and trying to load. This app doesn’t work. Period.

The HBO GO app has always been a little touchy but you could binge away to your heart’s content with minimal interruption. Over the last few months it’s gotten drastically worse. I now reset the app three times to get through a single hour-long episode. You would think WarnerMedia would invest as much in the delivery of their content as they do in the content itself.
App bugs

Bugs when casting to TV. It’s easy to end up in a loop where you can’t cast, but can’t watch on the device because you’re over the subscriber limit. Also, the toolbar when casting isn’t a layer over the main screen, as you can still interface with items below the toolbar. Won’t pause the casting, but will start playing a new episode that happened to be below the pause icon on the toolbar.

HBO: stay classy, your app is fine. Low reviewers: it’s a streaming video app. If you don’t have a plan that allows you to stream without worry, how is that HBO’s fault? Interface hanging or unresponsive? Have you reset your device or, I dunno, upgraded past an iPhone 5S? Never had an issue on my IP7 or iPad 10.5 so perhaps you need some upgraded hardware. Let me guess, you’re trying to run Mojave on a PowerBook G4... I love how you tear DirectTV and Att a new one on a review for THE HBO GO APP. 🤦🏻‍♂️

The only reason I have hbo is for game of thrones and there is always an issue before I watch it. Like right now, it’s lagging and its the season finale. I am definitely deleting my account right after I can watch the finale (which will probably be in an hour or so!) this is absolutely ridiculous. I tried getting this app again and it won’t even download. I JUST WANT TO WATCH GAME OF THRONES!

This app used to work just fine. After AT&T took over DIRECTV logging in is impossible . I’ve been on the phone multiple times with technical support and reset the login id and password multiple times but still cannot log in. I even get a message that says I am not an HBO customer when I have been for the last 15 years. I’m fed up with this. Do not use this app.

We’ve been trying to sign up for HBO Go for weeks, and every time it says it doesn’t recognize our Spectrum account. The error message gave a number to call, and it turned out to be Spectrum’s number - but there isn’t an issue with our Spectrum account. EDIT: We’ve already tried everything in the dev response, including filling out that support form.

Despite having an iPad Pro with the most up to date iOS, this app crashes consistently when opening. I have to delete and redownload and re-sign in almost once a week. It’s very disappointing for a brand that I trust for entertainment. I expect the app to work just as well.

I have spent over 3 hours with tech support. Finally they went in and reset the cache on THEIR END for MY account. Had me reinstall the apps and the crap turned to gold. The only device that is plagued with endless problems is their HBO GO website and streaming in there. Loads of issues. If you make the mistake of backing up 10 seconds with their onscreen icon. The playback crashes and the list goes on. The. You have to hunt for the series locate the season and episode you are watching and it starts past the point I wanted it to. Is you try and scroll backwards it CRASHES. IT IS past 2:00 AM. I am not proof reading this tonight. Would nice to know why it took so long. And you need to update your description full screen on my older iPad Air plays in full screen if you want to. The sizing is not accurate HBO NEEDS to reduce full screen image by 5% to 7% so we can see titles and credits properly. Thanks HBO

We’ve been trying to sign up for HBO Go for weeks, and every time it says it doesn’t recognize our Spectrum account. The error message gave a number to call, and it turned out to be Spectrum’s number - but there isn’t an issue with our Spectrum account. EDIT: We’ve already tried everything in the dev response, including filling out that support form.

In an age where everything is streamed, this app is the lowest of the low. A. Slowest loading time out of all other apps. B. Works maybe half the time. C. Interface is unacceptable. D. I feel as if I’m watching the blue dots more than my show. E. It has been like this for as long as I had it. Please @developers please explain to me why this app is so subpar to all of the other streaming apps. I would understand if you were a small company, but your not you have no excuse.

HBO: stay classy, your app is fine. Low reviewers: it’s a streaming video app. If you don’t have a plan that allows you to stream without worry, how is that HBO’s fault? Interface hanging or unresponsive? Have you reset your device or, I dunno, upgraded past an iPhone 5S? Never had an issue on my IP7 or iPad 10.5 so perhaps you need some upgraded hardware. Let me guess, you’re trying to run Mojave on a PowerBook G4... I love how you tear DirectTV and Att a new one on a review for THE HBO GO APP. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Update: Today HBOGO is working on all my streaming devices. I am giving it 3 stars until I can further test it out. I hope everyone else is having the same experience. First, I am tired of having my review deleted without any explanation. No profanity just truth. The truth is since AT* took over Directv, Directv Now and HBO everything has gone downhill. Second, After several tech calls to Directv they verified there is a problem with HBO Go. Apparently it is a global problem as people with other services have the same issue. Third, This is not a standalone IPAD app problem, it's the same on my Roku and even the Directv mobile App. In others words, across all my streaming devices. Fourth, what steps have you laid out in these reviews? Explain what it's.bo/Go-Apple-iOS or any of the other nonsensical strings you put in reviews are. Are we to guess how one would use this? It's not a link or anything you can use in the Safari browser. It feels like a nonstarter to me that is a diversion from really offering any real help. There is not even a customer phone number for HBO. Even Directv was stunned by this. Fifth, there is no good faith offer from HBO to offer a money back resolution or even a free month until it's sorted out. Thanks for ruining another service AT*.

If you are at a hotel or using slower DSL, don’t count on using this app. For some reason, the app is far worse then the website, which is barely usable at slow speeds. If it even plays at all. HBO’s lack of care shines in this app’s streaming reliability.

I have used the app many times before and never had a problem signing in. It has been some time since I last used the application; so i was prompted to sign in. Selected my tv provider and then goes to a blank screen. No option to enter username or password. Again try to select my tv provider thinking it may need refreshed and again directs me to a blank screen. Go to sign in on a desktop computer and get a “This site can”t be reached” when i go to sign in on that website. Not sure what’s going on but would love to be able to sign and and make use of the application on a device as well as on a desktop computer.

I like the idea of watching HBO on my phone but there are frequent crashes that make watching movies difficult. I suggest fixing the bugs and possibly allowing people to download episodes and movies on different devices. Maybe add a family account feature where you can add your spouse or kid to the same account which might improve other issues.

I have DirectTV Puerto Rico as my TV provider and my subscription includes HBO. For almost 2 weeks I’ve been trying to watch HBO series on app but I can’t even sign in. This app is the worst streaming app I’ve ever used, and I’ve used several. It will generally play on my phone, but if I cast to my chrome cast it will pause and load about every 30 seconds and the image is blurry. None of the other apps- Hulu, Netflix, YouTubeTV, etc., do this. Watch HBO any other way- do not rely on this terrible app. I was contacted by HBO offering to help me reset my Chromecast(which I of course already did). I am not having problems with my Chromecast- EVERY other streaming app works fine with it. Only HBO GO lags, pauses, and is blurry. Once again, watch HBO any other way, do not use this terrible app.

When I’m on the “GO”, I’m usually not on WiFi. As such, I turn off WiFi and would expect my robust cellular data with a great provider to get the job done. I was excited about this app for about five minutes before realizing I have to try ten times before the show actually loads. And even then, I can’t get through five minutes without it freezing and trying to load. This app doesn’t work. Period.

Overall disappointing, the app lags out on me and closes, sometimes the screen just goes black and I have to restart the whole app while I’m in the middle of a show. The website is no better either, I can’t press the 10 seconds back button without it taking me to another page it’s so frustrating and really ruins the experience. Updated again 5/5/19: my iPad did not recognize Charter/Spectrum as my provider. I signed out of Charter on my iPad then signed back in under Spectrum and now the HBO Go app works. That may help others who are having the same problem. Updated 5/4/19: I tried the steps to get in to HBOGo from the link as the representative said below and still can not get in to the app. It still shows three blinking dots but nothing else, then times out after entering Spectrum as my provider in the log in screen. I also contacted HBO with my information as the representative asked. Still not a happy customer. If something works so I can get in, I will change my 1 star rating for the HBO app. I really do not want to leave such a horrible review and hope HBO does whatever is necessary to make me a happy customer once again. HBO Go used to work on my iPad in the past but now it does not recognize Spectrum when I try to log in. I am paying for HBO but am not getting all of what I am paying for. What gives?

Yes, it does let me watch HBO on the GO but it requires either WiFi or cellular. Even with the “WiFi only” selected it will just give notification and if you click it off, it will just use data... the app needs offline playback soooo bad. The rating is based on the lack of that feature. The menu is what it is, could also be a lot better but the one thing I’d love to see is offline playback. The data use per episode is roughly 0.75GB and unless you’re on an unlimited plan, that will add up super quickly. Even if you only allow downloads for original content (like Netflix does) it would be worth it since that’s what most of us are here for anyways.

It’s not like HBO doesn’t know this is the case - in trying to make themselves about the content as opposed to being Netflix they’ve slacked hard on the interface. Forget curated content, they need to focus on updating this so it’s not glitchy/slow/unresponsive/poor when working. At this point the cost benefit of watching HBO over other places turns on the quality of the service not the content. It’s sad too because it’s another case where HBO has fallen behind resting on its own content laurels unable to see that access to and means of watching is more important - prime example of a company that went after top grads and candidates for their content group and then just filled hired the first resumes in on the UI team

I have had this app for quite some time and have been using it without any issue. I have been very happy with it. Now all of a sudden I cannot watch anything. When I try to watch something it prompts me to log in - that’s fine, I have no problem with that. But when I log in to my cable provider, I’m prompted to add HBO to my subscription, but I already have it. I even tried selecting the option to add HBO to my plan, but then I get the message that I already have it and to open the app. I go back to the app and the cycle starts all over again. I tried deleting the app and reinstalling it, but with no luck. Very frustrated. 😡 I love so many of HBO’s original series, but maybe it’s time to pull the plug.

Half the time the app does not work... it either stays black and doesn’t load on my phone or glitches and exits out of the app entirely. Then to try and watch a video is another frustrating venture. Sometimes it works and lets you watch a few episodes in a row without interruption. But most of the time I have to open up the app and restart everything just to try and get everything to load. Get better technology people HBO. I mean seriously you think you’d already have it with a 2 star rating... to have to pay extra for the service in the first place is ridiculous for it not to be working seamlessly.

This is a good app but those of you having trouble signing in. Try to turn off the HBO GO under the TV Provider that allows HBO GO to automatically sign in under your tv provider. For some reason this doesn’t work the way it should. You will have to look for your tv provider under the long list of providers, but this should work by doing it this way. Good luck 👍 Update: The HBOGO app for the AppleTV, this app shouldn’t sign you out automatically. HBO doesn’t seem like that there is a problem with that. All I want is to still be signed in, unless I want to sign myself out. Simple

I have no problems with this app at all, and use it all the time! It works great on my 4G network, so any issues are most likely with reviewer’s network, not the app itself. SOME carriers throttle data for streaming, so check your contracts! The best feature is how real-time it is- I can start something on my phone then immediately hit continue watching from my TV and it picks up exactly where I left off, and visa Versa!

i have been using HBO go for about a month and i get signed out about every week which is no problem i guess. but this last time it signed me out i have not been able to sign back in. i chose my tv provider then it takes me to a loading screen which lasts about 3 minutes then after it’s done loading it takes me to a grey screen where on the bottom it says chose your tv provider and when u click it takes you back where you started. absolutely ridiculous i have tried re starting my phone and deleting and re downloading the app. i just wanna watch game of thrones.

The main reason I got this app was to cast to my TV as I don’t have cable in my bedroom at school. This app’s chrome/smart cast functionality is terrible. I have yet to get it to work where it doesn’t error out after trying to cast a movie or episode to my smart TV. Also when connected to your smart tv you cannot tap any movie or show to get it to play, causing me to have to disconnect, navigate back to the movie or show, press play then try and reconnect to cast only to get an error again. Such a trash and poorly developed feature that other apps I’ve used had no problem doing.

I never know if I’m actually going to be able to stream anything from my app or not. Most of the time I need to wait and keep checking to see if the streaming icon shows up. Sometimes it can take over an hour. I’ve done all the troubleshooting that’s recommended and, when it does show up, I haven’t done anything to show me what to do the next time. It just eventually shows up. When I want to watch, I want to watch. I know this is a first world problem but there’s no reason why an app needs to be this unreliable. The reviews prove that something needs to be done.

I don’t know about other people writing review but HBO GO with the AT&T plan work out for me pretty good. I have on my IPad, IPhone and Apple TV. The App gives me no trouble and I haven’t had problem since I got the Directv now plan in 2017. I’m lucky enough to stick around and be grandfather in the live little plan. HBO have some tweets and bugs but that like anyother Apps. HBO GO works fine with me.

The content on hbo is top notch, however the app interface and settings are terrible. For example I am in the middle of watching something, then press the home button to so something on another app. Then I come back to hbo and it has had a spell of amnesia. It never remembers what I was watching, or lists anything in a recently played/watched section. So every time I open it I have to navigate to it, remember what episode I’m on and go from there. Unbelievably frustrating for such an easy fix.

Overall disappointing, the app lags out on me and closes, sometimes the screen just goes black and I have to restart the whole app while I’m in the middle of a show. The website is no better either, I can’t press the 10 seconds back button without it taking me to another page it’s so frustrating and really ruins the experience. I’ll be looking forward to future updates that fixes these problems and the other problems people are listing

It’s working perfectly fine for me. I use my college login and everything so I can watch Game of Thrones and I haven’t encountered any problems using the mobile app on WiFi or LTE. I can pick up right where I left off and it’s great. I’m not sure how it works on other devices, but it’s working fine for me personally.

Can’t do anything. Keeps forcing me to sign in. I am both a DirecTV subscriber, and an HBO subscriber. And yet, every time I try and sign in on this app it says “having trouble verifying your account. Would you like to sign in using a different TV provider?” What a bad joke!! Think about this, I hardly enjoy HBO as it is. Why would I subscribe to HBO more than once?? Even better, since I only have one TV provider, do you think the average person is going to have multiple tv providers?? The average person is cord cutting and doesn’t even want 1 tv provider!!

Most of the time that I start the app, the navigation bar is missing, leaving no way to login. I tried deleting the app and starting from scratch. Same problem. Tapping on any of the video previews from the home screen pushes to a blank black screen. The black screen has literally nothing on it. No back button, no nav bar, and nothing indicating that content is being loaded (waited awhile regardless). Essentially you’re stuck on this black screen!! Intermittently, I have seen the menu and been able to tap sign in. But tapping sign-in keeps me on a loading screen that surprise surprise doesn’t load anything. A few minor bugs are understandable, but this app literally has zero functionality. As it stands, HBO or Apple should remove this app from the App Store. I’m on an iPhone XS Max, iOS 12.2, and have tried both on LTE and very fast WiFi.
Significant login issues

This app used to work fine. With a recent update, forced me to login again. Have tried to login with provider DirectTV Now half dozen times. Initial login screen hangs for almost 2 minutes just to bring up list of providers. Once up, choose DirectTV Now. Type email but unable to paste PW and if you go out of app to view PW (I use PW manager), you are forced to go through this all over again. Painful. I tried deleting app and reinstalling and also removing HBO GO from TV app - did not help. Horrible experience and I’ve given up. Need to fix this.

Ok... let me start off by saying that I have an account and it works perfectly fine on my PS4 and on my desktop. I type in my sign in information and BOOM I can enjoy what HBO Go has to offer.... try to sign onto the app? NOPE! I get told that my sign in information is incorrect every single time and then it locks the account... what the hell? You guys need to seriously fix your app for iPad/iPhone. I literally type the same exact information in when I sign in on my computer and have zero issues. I would’ve even rate this app a 1 star.

I like the idea of watching HBO on my phone but there are frequent crashes that make watching movies difficult. I suggest fixing the bugs and possibly allowing people to download episodes and movies on different devices. Maybe add a family account feature where you can add your spouse or kid to the same account which might improve other issues.
Constant login prompts

I am prompted to verify my login every single time I log in to HBO. Even while remaining logged in to the app, I have to validate the on-screen verification which makes me go through a list of providers I have zero involvement with as I purely am using HBO Go to avoid having a cable company. Out of the six times we have used this, it has been a back and forth between phones and television to set it up every single time.

The app sporadically quits and will often forget your account. As a result, customers are forced to authenticate their credentials every time they want to watch a show. This happens on both the mobile and TV app. As to their new promotional question: What to watch after GOT? -Nothing on this network. Your lack of commitment ruined the ending to what could have been HBOs equivalent to the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. I refuse to give my time and money to a network that lacks the commitment to fully support their content. #TheNorthRemembers

The process of putting in my correct login information for my network provider from the activate HBO go site and getting back that it’s incorrect is frustrating. I even logged in normally on another page just to make sure. If I’m logged into HBO go in the app, why can’t I just cast it to the Roku player instead of going through this tedious and obviously broken process? Could be better.

So I was offered HBO Go for free through my school. So I decided to go and give it a go and hop on this Game of Thrones wave while it lasted. While the service works well on my xbox, the mobile app has been a complete disaster so far. For starters, most of the time I cannot even use the app. For the record, the only two devices that I use to watch HBO are my xbox and my phone (well I try). Whenever I have tried to use my phone, I have gotten error messages telling me that I am streaming on too many devices at once. So what do I do? I go check that my HBO is turned off on my Xbox. Check. Then I try the phone again, and to my (un)suprise, nothing has changed. Then I unplugged my xbox completely, hoping that this would rectify this. Still no change. If I cannot stream on my phone, then how can this app be effective? Completely disappointed in HBO.

I have to login/sign on every single time I want to use the app. Why can all the other streaming apps remember my info and keep me signed in and HBO cannot? I was provoked to write a review this time because now since I’ve updated the app and signed in again I see you don’t have a “popular/recommended” selection for the movies. I can only choose by genre or scroll through all. And you’ve had some movies on your list for 10+ years I swear.

The app is broken. I charged my phone to 100%. Open the HBO Go app and first it doesn’t load. Restarted my phone by hard reset. Then open app again, got to splash screen and asking me to sign in. Pressed sign in. Waited 5 minutes and it’s still signing in... meanwhile my battery has dropped down to 93%. When I close the app and restarted my phone again. It drop down to 90%. The app is broken and now I want my money back because HBO subscription is no longer worth it.

Hi. This is actually a good app. It used to work only with WiFi and cellular but that’s not even the problem. I used it almost everyday but suddenly it just stopped working. I deleted it and uploaded it again and now I’m not able to use it because it’s an US app and now I can’t what my stuff, I can’t even open the app, it doesn’t let me. You should figure this problem out. Thank you!

I have 8 HBO channels with DirecTv but HBO GO won’t let me even get started. The second I try to login, it rejects me saying I don’t have HBO with my TV Provider. I’ve called many times. Yes. I do. Have HBO. 8 times over, in fact. I’ve tried contacting HBO help, but every correspondence is like starting over from the beginning. “Hi. I’m here to help. Please provide me with this information...” You mean the same info that I’ve sent 4 times already? That same info that’s attached in your email? Copied in the thread. I can see it right there. OMG. Are you serious???? Wow.

Holy crap, is this the worst app I’ve ever used. I’m signed out every week and my direct tv now password is never valid when signing back in. Usually, I have to reset my password each time I want to use this. Tried to login today and now I can’t even get in the app after resetting my password + uninstalling/reinstalling the app. I’d give this zero stars if I could since it’s now utterly useless to me. 21 versions of the app and it’s still littered with defects. Do you guys take any pride in your work?

When this app works, it’s good. The UI is nothing special, but that’s par for the course across all their supported devices. Cumbersome and behind the times seems to be the motive here. It isn’t pretty, but it works. The problem is once you begin watching something it hangs, often multiple times an episode or movie, requiring a full restart of the app. This app has potential, but it falls short.

Wondering if anyone is having issues with signing in multiple times on Apple TV 4K. this didn't happen with my previous Apple Tv and I did try deleting and installing again.. if the developer can shed light on this is I'd appreciate it .. all my other apps that requires sign in are behaving... So it makes me think it's this app...

I don’t know why there are so many bad reviews. I am able to watch anything on WiFi or cellular. The only reason I wouldn’t give this app 5 stars is because there isn’t an option to download shows to watch offline.

App won’t let me sign in at all. Sometimes it will load acting like it will, but never actually does anything. I’ve already left another review about this problem before the previous update and was told to contact the developers, which I did. No solution yet. And looking at the other reviews this is not an isolated problem. I’m sure I’m not alone in wishing this would get fixed before GoT comes back.

The thing I hate about this app is that there is no way to read a description of what something is about. Or who the actors are. What it is rated. What were the reviews by critics and fans. What year the movie/show was released. Absolutely nothing. The only thing you can do is play the content. So what I do is I flip back and forth between the app and Google trying to figure out what to watch.

Although I pay for Hbo through my cable provider, the app still has the ordacity to tell me that they cannot verify my subscription through my tv provider. No matter how many calls, removing and re adding the app, or even using my tv provider wifi it still denies me. My next step will be removing Hbo from my account al together. There is not point in paying for hbo if i cannot watch it where ever i want. Signed Disappointed.

I have DirectTV Puerto Rico as my TV provider and my subscription includes HBO. For almost 2 weeks I’ve been trying to watch HBO series on app but I can’t even sign in. I follow all the steps but the app tells me: “There is a problem with your account. We cannot validate your information, please contact Customer Service.” I don’t have a problem with my account, I can sign in to the DirectTV app without any issue. I only have a problem with the HBO GO app. PLEASE HELP!!!

When I’m on the “GO”, I’m usually not on WiFi. As such, I turn off WiFi and would expect my robust cellular data with a great provider to get the job done. I was excited about this app for about five minutes before realizing I have to try ten times before the show actually loads. And even then, I can’t get through five minutes without it freezing and trying to load. This app doesn’t work. Period.

The HBO GO app has always been a little touchy but you could binge away to your heart’s content with minimal interruption. Over the last few months it’s gotten drastically worse. I now reset the app three times to get through a single hour-long episode. You would think WarnerMedia would invest as much in the delivery of their content as they do in the content itself.
App bugs

Bugs when casting to TV. It’s easy to end up in a loop where you can’t cast, but can’t watch on the device because you’re over the subscriber limit. Also, the toolbar when casting isn’t a layer over the main screen, as you can still interface with items below the toolbar. Won’t pause the casting, but will start playing a new episode that happened to be below the pause icon on the toolbar.

HBO has been around for the longest time, the movies selection is great. Even recently and much newer movies than Netflix sometimes. I fully recommend it, also works on any device. 😄👍🏻

I downloaded the app in 10 seconds signed in with spectrum and I’m able to watch whatever. Don’t always trust everyone’s reviews, it might work for you.

This app has a mind of its own. The interface is completely out of date. I haven’t been able to open it since last week. I even tried to delete it and re download it but it still just shows a black screen. Although now the GOT is over I guess I’ll just delete the account all together.

HBO: stay classy, your app is fine. Low reviewers: it’s a streaming video app. If you don’t have a plan that allows you to stream without worry, how is that HBO’s fault? Interface hanging or unresponsive? Have you reset your device or, I dunno, upgraded past an iPhone 5S? Never had an issue on my IP7 or iPad 10.5 so perhaps you need some upgraded hardware. Let me guess, you’re trying to run Mojave on a PowerBook G4... I love how you tear DirectTV and Att a new one on a review for THE HBO GO APP. 🤦🏻‍♂️

The only reason I have hbo is for game of thrones and there is always an issue before I watch it. Like right now, it’s lagging and its the season finale. I am definitely deleting my account right after I can watch the finale (which will probably be in an hour or so!) this is absolutely ridiculous. I tried getting this app again and it won’t even download. I JUST WANT TO WATCH GAME OF THRONES!

This app used to work just fine. After AT&T took over DIRECTV logging in is impossible . I’ve been on the phone multiple times with technical support and reset the login id and password multiple times but still cannot log in. I even get a message that says I am not an HBO customer when I have been for the last 15 years. I’m fed up with this. Do not use this app.
Does not recognize Spectrum account

We’ve been trying to sign up for HBO Go for weeks, and every time it says it doesn’t recognize our Spectrum account. The error message gave a number to call, and it turned out to be Spectrum’s number - but there isn’t an issue with our Spectrum account. EDIT: We’ve already tried everything in the dev response, including filling out that support form.

Really like this app. It works great and streams very smoothly. I withheld 1 Star because HBO is late coming to the download to watch later party. Once they finally get with the program I will update and give them hem that last star.

This app would be awesome if you were able to download episodes like Netflix. Sometimes on the commute to work I would like to catch up on an episode but being on a train underground has a lot of interruptions.
