Description
Breathe2Relax is a portable stress management tool which provides detailed information on the effects of stress on the body and instructions and practice exercises to help users learn the stress management skill called diaphragmatic breathing.Breathing exercises have been documented to decrease the body’s ‘fight-or-flight’ (stress) response, and help with mood stabilization, anger control, and anxiety management. Breathe2Relax can be used as a stand-alone stress reduction tool, or can be used in tandem with clinical care directed by a healthcare worker. Breathe2Relax now uses HealthKit and your Apple Watch device to measure your heart rate throughout your breathing exercise to help provide an even more complete picture of the relaxation experienced.

This is a great app that needs to be updated. I open the app on my series 4 Apple Watch and it always tells me phone not reachable and never says anything else, even while the phone is in my hands searching for the heart rate. So it becomes a bit frustrating with each use but the breathing section works very well to easily change the times for inhaling and exhaling. I would give five stars when the app actually works with my watch.

The proven science is that slowing your breathing relaxes you. That’s all that’s needed to calm yourself. Inhale and exhale when the app says to, and you will get a very nice meditative feeling. Be sure to set the number of seconds for the inhale and the exhale; these will vary from person to person.

This app was highly recommended by a doctor. Overall not terrible but I can’t connect from my Apple Watch nor will any of the videos connect. Hoping an update soon corrects these issues.

Best app that has helped me with anxiety. It was recommended by my doctor. I have horrible anxiety, and was told it was helpful for deep breathing exercises. I LOVE THIS APP. I was going into a strong anxiety daze, and used this app, it was a miracle. Very thankful for my doctor, and this app!

I’ve been diagnosed with congestive heart failure and sometimes my heart races and makes me very anxious. Using the app, I can usually calm myself and reduce my heart rate. It’s a godsend!

This is a very straight forward deep breathing application. I liked that the voices in this application weren’t computer like and there were choices for music. It is a bit hard to look at graphically but that’s not something I can’t overlook. THANK YOU for creating an app where I can adjust the breathing time. I have never liked breathing apps because I am always focused on not suffocating myself (Im not sure why but I have always had limited lung capacity) I can actually relax now that I know I’m not “breathing wrong”.

I downloaded this app with the hope it would help me when dealing with anxiety/stress. It helps with breathing. The app makes it so you can speed the breathing up and slow it down as well. There is a voice narrating, telling you when to breathe in and when to breathe out and the number of breathing cycles you have gone through. Very relaxing voice and helps get to sleep as well! Would recommend!! In my Abnormal Psychology class, we learned that deep breathing relaxes, helps to relieve stress, and lower heart rate. You learn to focus on your breathing, making sure you are taking slow, deep breaths.
It needs an update.

The app would’ve been fantastic accept that it doesn’t connect to my Apple Watch. It keeps saying it’s not reachable. It also doesn’t show video as it says there no internet connection when there is!

App needs updating – using IOS 13.3, it fails to recognize internet connection; Bluetooth connection (for heart rate data from Apple Watch. The basic app is very useful, but would be much more so if it integrated fully with Apple Watch/iPhone.

My assigned PTSD psychologist at the VA recommended me this app. I was very skeptical at first but wow. This app improved my quality of life just with simple breathing techniques. Just follow on screen guidance and audio directions. The app talks to you in a calming tone and takes you step by step through each breath. This app is really awesome but I gave 4 stars instead of five because I wish instead of music one could select a nature soundtrack like jungle sounds or a thunderstorm for example. That would be really neat. But all in all wonderful app, would recommend.

Would like it to have time option include, ie 5, 10, 15, 20 mins and also the ability to set a timer for notification/reminder. Like all the other features offered, very useful! Recommended to me by the VA biofeedback group for PTSD. 👍🏻

Good exercise but app says no internet connection even though connection is fine. Resetting network connections did not solve problem. I suspect app has problem with current IOS version, 12.1.4

App complained there was no internet connection. There was. It said it could not obtain heart rate info even though I enabled it. Other apps had no issues. HeartWatch could communicate just fine with the watch as did others. Facebook and Reddit both had no issues connecting to the internet. So all in all a waste of time.

whenever i’m feeling really stressed, i just come to this app and no matter where i am, i put in headphones and just relax and distress myself. usually takes about 2-3 rounds of it for me to calm down, but very good for stressed people (such as myself) highly recommend.

Been using this app For several weeks, and I love that it’s very well thought out. I can adjust how long the breath’s in and out are. The music and visuals are beautiful and soothing. Not much I would change!

During session, when trying to add more time to the lengths exhale, the whole exhale timer will reset to 16 secs, totally disrupting the entire breathing session. Please correct this issue

The terms & conditions updated and were very strongly worded. It sounded like if you used this app they were reporting your info to the government. Most T&Cs have some data collection for the developers use, but this seemed so over-the-top that I deleted the app. Not interested in being involved in some science experiment. The app is well designed and worked well so I’m bummed that I had to get rid of it. The interface wasn’t very attractively designed though.

This app has a simplistic layout, which breaks down the information into easy to understand preset categories. Providing reason and relevance as well as practical guided skills for managing stress through breathing. As a community mental health case manager I will be encouraging my transition age youth clients to use this tool. It will also help me to practice self care in my daily life. My one fault with this app are the missing instructional videos. “Show Me How”, How to Breath, Biology if Breathing, and Effects of Stress on the Body” all have an error stating “No Video by that ID”.

I got this app to help my 10-year-old deal with anxiety and panic attacks. It turns out that I use it as much as she has. Not only does it help me relax, but repeated sessions help quiet my mind and help me fall asleep. My only complaint if you could call it that – it’s actually a suggestion – is that options for 10 minutes, 15 minutes, and 20 minutes cycles be provided. I would prefer not to have to start the cycle over after every 16 breath session. However, it is amazing what can be accomplished in 16 breaths.

I see how current design doesn't need to be outright changed, but it would be nice to have an option for following features: * Manually set time for inhalation and exhalation instead of holding button, * Custom set for number of cycles, * Show cycles as minutes, * Show countdown on amount of time / number of breaths left, * More nature sounds or music options. It's a perfectly fine app, but I want to try for 5 minute sessions and none of the presets are for 2 1/2 min or 5, but I'll definitely make it work for a free app with the breathing metronome.

Before doing this breathing exercise my blood pressure was 147/98. After setting it to my breathing rate of 11.1 seconds and doing the exercise twice my blood pressure was 122/85.

This is a simple to use app that is an excellent tool to assist in breathing exercises. The only thing it doesn't do is breathe for you :)! It might be even a little better if the user could add their own personal background graphics and increase the amount of breathes in each session. Aside from that it is a five star app! Thanks for offering it for free.

The advantage of the App is that you can modify the instructions for when to inhale and exhale based on preference. The big downside is that the maximum number of breathing cycles allowed is 16. Even though I breathed very slowly, the program lasted only five minutes. I wanted a program that would guide me for 30 minutes. The app should be improved to allow the user to set the amount of time it lasts.

I suffer from mild episodes of anxiety, and the only thing thatll truly help me in the moment is to focus on my breathing, and this app does just that in an aesthetically pleasing way. Everything is customizable, and the nature scenes combined with the calming sounds of a babbling brook or waterfall really tie together well. I would definitely recommend this app.

This tool is all about the breath. Simple, easy, and perfect for a few minutes of refocusing back to the breath and enhancing self-soothing. Instead of starting my day immediately looking at my emails, it helps to use this app first, which helps to center me prior to jumping into the uber busy day.

It literally helped me run further, faster, sleep better, as well as, more soundly, it truly does relieve a lot of stress that sometimes you don't even realize you have hanging on your shoulders, I am a musician and it immensely helped my singing voice in many ways. If you are suffering from high blood pressure and anxiety, try this. I was extremely skeptical at first but after trying it a few times, it dropped my high blood pressure and feel less anxious overall. This helped tremendously. I definitely recommend this app!!!

I think it's an excellent tool i'lluse it to help me quit smoking and I agree with the other gentleman it needs to be fixed where you can turn off the screen so it does not use battery life , as I'd like to use it throughout the day when I'm away from my charger.

This app (developed by the US Dept of Defense) was recommended by my physical therapist. Based on diagnostics, I have a specific target rate (5.45 breaths per second). Setting this target in the app is not straightforward nor intuitive; if it were, I'd be inclined to award 5 stars. But maybe not, as the session times are very short and based in number of breaths, not minutes. So there are two tweaks needed. If you are trying to learn how to slow your breathing, I recommend "Breathing Zone" which includes a breathing analyzer (you give the app access to the mike).

I recently developed lung problems. It is difficult for me to expand my lungs and maintain normal oxygen saturation levels. I have been doing diaphragm breathing for years, but after having pneumonia it has become difficult and stressful. This app really helps reduce the anxiety associated with labored breathing and opens my lungs up. When my chest feels tight and my oxygen levels drop or when I feel my breathing becoming labored I use this. After sixteen cycles I can breath more easily and my oxygen will move into the normal range. Somehow I have lost lung capacity, but I feel this is a way of recovering at least a little of what I have lost . I consider this tool to be a complimentary therapy to the medications the pulmonologist has me on. An exercise for my lungs.when I finish with the sixteen cycle I am relaxed and breathing more freely.

It's free and well made. It really helps you deal with life at a better frequency. Some people since birth who were coddled well from good parenting maintain their belly breathing since birth (we all start as belly breathers, it's natural, but as we get stressed we chest breath)

it's a bit tricky to control the times of breathes on my iPod. I decided the amount was close enough because I didn't want to fight with it. I had to reinstall it because it kept freezing after breath 8. I didn't have a problem until I clicked the do not remind me box. hopefully the reinstall will fix it.

This great app is a must on all my devices! It has optional instructions if you're not an experienced "deep breather" or meditator. The breathing part is so well done! Great for when I'm scattered-doing or thinking too much, too fast-I'm good at getting very stressed out and this app helps return me to a calm, centered place! I got this app to help my 10-year-old deal with anxiety and panic attacks. It turns out that I use it as much as she has. Not only does it help me relax, but repeated sessions help quiet my mind and help me fall asleep. My only complaint if you could call it that – it’s actually a suggestion – is that options for 10 minutes, 15 minutes, and 20 minutes cycles be provided. I would prefer not to have to start the cycle over after every 16 breath session. However, it is amazing what can be accomplished in 16 breaths.

This is a very straight forward deep breathing application. I liked that the voices in this application weren’t computer like and there were choices for music. It is a bit hard to look at graphically but that’s not something I can’t overlook. THANK YOU for creating an app where I can adjust the breathing time. I have never liked breathing apps because I am always focused on not suffocating myself (Im not sure why but I have always had limited lung capacity) I can actually relax now that I know I’m not “breathing wrong”.

Would like it to have time option include, ie 5, 10, 15, 20 mins and also the ability to set a timer for notification/reminder. Like all the other features offered, very useful! Recommended to me by the VA biofeedback group for PTSD. 👍🏻

The terms & conditions updated and were very strongly worded. It sounded like if you used this app they were reporting your info to the government. Most T&Cs have some data collection for the developers use, but this seemed so over-the-top that I deleted the app. Not interested in being involved in some science experiment. The app is well designed and worked well so I’m bummed that I had to get rid of it. The interface wasn’t very attractively designed though.
Never Connects to Apple Watch

This is a great app that needs to be updated. I open the app on my series 4 Apple Watch and it always tells me phone not reachable and never says anything else, even while the phone is in my hands searching for the heart rate. So it becomes a bit frustrating with each use but the breathing section works very well to easily change the times for inhaling and exhaling. I would give five stars when the app actually works with my watch.

This is a simple to use app that is an excellent tool to assist in breathing exercises. The only thing it doesn't do is breathe for you :)! It might be even a little better if the user could add their own personal background graphics and increase the amount of breathes in each session. Aside from that it is a five star app! Thanks for offering it for free.
Small annoying feature choices, not detract from overall usefulness

I see how current design doesn't need to be outright changed, but it would be nice to have an option for following features: * Manually set time for inhalation and exhalation instead of holding button, * Custom set for number of cycles, * Show cycles as minutes, * Show countdown on amount of time / number of breaths left, * More nature sounds or music options. It's a perfectly fine app, but I want to try for 5 minute sessions and none of the presets are for 2 1/2 min or 5, but I'll definitely make it work for a free app with the breathing metronome.

The advantage of the App is that you can modify the instructions for when to inhale and exhale based on preference. The big downside is that the maximum number of breathing cycles allowed is 16. Even though I breathed very slowly, the program lasted only five minutes. I wanted a program that would guide me for 30 minutes. The app should be improved to allow the user to set the amount of time it lasts.

The proven science is that slowing your breathing relaxes you. That’s all that’s needed to calm yourself. Inhale and exhale when the app says to, and you will get a very nice meditative feeling. Be sure to set the number of seconds for the inhale and the exhale; these will vary from person to person.

Been using this app For several weeks, and I love that it’s very well thought out. I can adjust how long the breath’s in and out are. The music and visuals are beautiful and soothing. Not much I would change!

Best app that has helped me with anxiety. It was recommended by my doctor. I have horrible anxiety, and was told it was helpful for deep breathing exercises. I LOVE THIS APP. I was going into a strong anxiety daze, and used this app, it was a miracle. Very thankful for my doctor, and this app!

Good exercise but app says no internet connection even though connection is fine. Resetting network connections did not solve problem. I suspect app has problem with current IOS version, 12.1.4

App complained there was no internet connection. There was. It said it could not obtain heart rate info even though I enabled it. Other apps had no issues. HeartWatch could communicate just fine with the watch as did others. Facebook and Reddit both had no issues connecting to the internet. So all in all a waste of time.

I’ve been diagnosed with congestive heart failure and sometimes my heart races and makes me very anxious. Using the app, I can usually calm myself and reduce my heart rate. It’s a godsend!

whenever i’m feeling really stressed, i just come to this app and no matter where i am, i put in headphones and just relax and distress myself. usually takes about 2-3 rounds of it for me to calm down, but very good for stressed people (such as myself) highly recommend.

I downloaded this app with the hope it would help me when dealing with anxiety/stress. It helps with breathing. The app makes it so you can speed the breathing up and slow it down as well. There is a voice narrating, telling you when to breathe in and when to breathe out and the number of breathing cycles you have gone through. Very relaxing voice and helps get to sleep as well! Would recommend!! In my Abnormal Psychology class, we learned that deep breathing relaxes, helps to relieve stress, and lower heart rate. You learn to focus on your breathing, making sure you are taking slow, deep breaths.

My assigned PTSD psychologist at the VA recommended me this app. I was very skeptical at first but wow. This app improved my quality of life just with simple breathing techniques. Just follow on screen guidance and audio directions. The app talks to you in a calming tone and takes you step by step through each breath. This app is really awesome but I gave 4 stars instead of five because I wish instead of music one could select a nature soundtrack like jungle sounds or a thunderstorm for example. That would be really neat. But all in all wonderful app, would recommend.

This app has a simplistic layout, which breaks down the information into easy to understand preset categories. Providing reason and relevance as well as practical guided skills for managing stress through breathing. As a community mental health case manager I will be encouraging my transition age youth clients to use this tool. It will also help me to practice self care in my daily life. My one fault with this app are the missing instructional videos. “Show Me How”, How to Breath, Biology if Breathing, and Effects of Stress on the Body” all have an error stating “No Video by that ID”.

Before doing this breathing exercise my blood pressure was 147/98. After setting it to my breathing rate of 11.1 seconds and doing the exercise twice my blood pressure was 122/85.

This is a simple to use app that is an excellent tool to assist in breathing exercises. The only thing it doesn't do is breathe for you :)! It might be even a little better if the user could add their own personal background graphics and increase the amount of breathes in each session. Aside from that it is a five star app! Thanks for offering it for free.

The advantage of the App is that you can modify the instructions for when to inhale and exhale based on preference. The big downside is that the maximum number of breathing cycles allowed is 16. Even though I breathed very slowly, the program lasted only five minutes. I wanted a program that would guide me for 30 minutes. The app should be improved to allow the user to set the amount of time it lasts.

ya this is TOTALLY working out for me! I have a habit of pulling something from my body and this is really calming me down. The only reson i do this habit is because i'm stressed. But this is working out like a nice, warm, comferting blanket. 😊

I suffer from mild episodes of anxiety, and the only thing thatll truly help me in the moment is to focus on my breathing, and this app does just that in an aesthetically pleasing way. Everything is customizable, and the nature scenes combined with the calming sounds of a babbling brook or waterfall really tie together well. I would definitely recommend this app.

This tool is all about the breath. Simple, easy, and perfect for a few minutes of refocusing back to the breath and enhancing self-soothing. Instead of starting my day immediately looking at my emails, it helps to use this app first, which helps to center me prior to jumping into the uber busy day.

It literally helped me run further, faster, sleep better, as well as, more soundly, it truly does relieve a lot of stress that sometimes you don't even realize you have hanging on your shoulders, I am a musician and it immensely helped my singing voice in many ways. And all honesty to sum it up, I think everyone should on this app and use it daily. Well done guys!

If you are suffering from high blood pressure and anxiety, try this. I was extremely skeptical at first but after trying it a few times, it dropped my high blood pressure and feel less anxious overall. This helped tremendously. I definitely recommend this app!!!

I think it's an excellent tool i'lluse it to help me quit smoking and I agree with the other gentleman it needs to be fixed where you can turn off the screen so it does not use battery life , as I'd like to use it throughout the day when I'm away from my charger.

This app (developed by the US Dept of Defense) was recommended by my physical therapist. Based on diagnostics, I have a specific target rate (5.45 breaths per second). Setting this target in the app is not straightforward nor intuitive; if it were, I'd be inclined to award 5 stars. But maybe not, as the session times are very short and based in number of breaths, not minutes. So there are two tweaks needed. If you are trying to learn how to slow your breathing, I recommend "Breathing Zone" which includes a breathing analyzer (you give the app access to the mike).

I recently developed lung problems. It is difficult for me to expand my lungs and maintain normal oxygen saturation levels. I have been doing diaphragm breathing for years, but after having pneumonia it has become difficult and stressful. This app really helps reduce the anxiety associated with labored breathing and opens my lungs up. When my chest feels tight and my oxygen levels drop or when I feel my breathing becoming labored I use this. After sixteen cycles I can breath more easily and my oxygen will move into the normal range. Somehow I have lost lung capacity, but I feel this is a way of recovering at least a little of what I have lost . I consider this tool to be a complimentary therapy to the medications the pulmonologist has me on. An exercise for my lungs.when I finish with the sixteen cycle I am relaxed and breathing more freely.

It's free and well made. It really helps you deal with life at a better frequency. Some people since birth who were coddled well from good parenting maintain their belly breathing since birth (we all start as belly breathers, it's natural, but as we get stressed we chest breath)

it's a bit tricky to control the times of breathes on my iPod. I decided the amount was close enough because I didn't want to fight with it. I had to reinstall it because it kept freezing after breath 8. I didn't have a problem until I clicked the do not remind me box. hopefully the reinstall will fix it.

This great app is a must on all my devices! It has optional instructions if you're not an experienced "deep breather" or meditator. The breathing part is so well done! Great for when I'm scattered-doing or thinking too much, too fast-I'm good at getting very stressed out and this app helps return me to a calm, centered place! Tho I have over 100 other deep breathing/relaxation apps, this goes at the top of the list. Thank you, developers!! I'm grateful and you will be, as well!

My assigned PTSD psychologist at the VA recommended me this app. I was very skeptical at first but wow. This app improved my quality of life just with simple breathing techniques. Just follow on screen guidance and audio directions. The app talks to you in a calming tone and takes you step by step through each breath. This app is really awesome but I gave 4 stars instead of five because I wish instead of music one could select a nature soundtrack like jungle sounds or a thunderstorm for example. That would be really neat. But all in all wonderful app, would recommend.

I downloaded this app with the hope it would help me when dealing with anxiety/stress. It helps with breathing. The app makes it so you can speed the breathing up and slow it down as well. There is a voice narrating, telling you when to breathe in and when to breathe out and the number of breathing cycles you have gone through. Very relaxing voice and helps get to sleep as well! Would recommend!! In my Abnormal Psychology class, we learned that deep breathing relaxes, helps to relieve stress, and lower heart rate. You learn to focus on your breathing, making sure you are taking slow, deep breaths.

This app has a simplistic layout, which breaks down the information into easy to understand preset categories. Providing reason and relevance as well as practical guided skills for managing stress through breathing. As a community mental health case manager I will be encouraging my transition age youth clients to use this tool. It will also help me to practice self care in my daily life. My one fault with this app are the missing instructional videos. “Show Me How”, How to Breath, Biology if Breathing, and Effects of Stress on the Body” all have an error stating “No Video by that ID”.

I got this app to help my 10-year-old deal with anxiety and panic attacks. It turns out that I use it as much as she has. Not only does it help me relax, but repeated sessions help quiet my mind and help me fall asleep. My only complaint if you could call it that – it’s actually a suggestion – is that options for 10 minutes, 15 minutes, and 20 minutes cycles be provided. I would prefer not to have to start the cycle over after every 16 breath session. However, it is amazing what can be accomplished in 16 breaths.

This is a very straight forward deep breathing application. I liked that the voices in this application weren’t computer like and there were choices for music. It is a bit hard to look at graphically but that’s not something I can’t overlook. THANK YOU for creating an app where I can adjust the breathing time. I have never liked breathing apps because I am always focused on not suffocating myself (Im not sure why but I have always had limited lung capacity) I can actually relax now that I know I’m not “breathing wrong”.

The terms & conditions updated and were very strongly worded. It sounded like if you used this app they were reporting your info to the government. Most T&Cs have some data collection for the developers use, but this seemed so over-the-top that I deleted the app. Not interested in being involved in some science experiment. The app is well designed and worked well so I’m bummed that I had to get rid of it. The interface wasn’t very attractively designed though.
Never Connects to Apple Watch

This is a great app that needs to be updated. I open the app on my series 4 Apple Watch and it always tells me phone not reachable and never says anything else, even while the phone is in my hands searching for the heart rate. So it becomes a bit frustrating with each use but the breathing section works very well to easily change the times for inhaling and exhaling. I would give five stars when the app actually works with my watch.

Small annoying feature choices, not detract from overall usefulness

I see how current design doesn't need to be outright changed, but it would be nice to have an option for following features: * Manually set time for inhalation and exhalation instead of holding button, * Custom set for number of cycles, * Show cycles as minutes, * Show countdown on amount of time / number of breaths left, * More nature sounds or music options. It's a perfectly fine app, but I want to try for 5 minute sessions and none of the presets are for 2 1/2 min or 5, but I'll definitely make it work for a free app with the breathing metronome.

The proven science is that slowing your breathing relaxes you. That’s all that’s needed to calm yourself. Inhale and exhale when the app says to, and you will get a very nice meditative feeling. Be sure to set the number of seconds for the inhale and the exhale; these will vary from person to person.

Best app that has helped me with anxiety. It was recommended by my doctor. I have horrible anxiety, and was told it was helpful for deep breathing exercises. I LOVE THIS APP. I was going into a strong anxiety daze, and used this app, it was a miracle. Very thankful for my doctor, and this app!

Good exercise but app says no internet connection even though connection is fine. Resetting network connections did not solve problem. I suspect app has problem with current IOS version, 12.1.4

App complained there was no internet connection. There was. It said it could not obtain heart rate info even though I enabled it. Other apps had no issues. HeartWatch could communicate just fine with the watch as did others. Facebook and Reddit both had no issues connecting to the internet. So all in all a waste of time.

App needs updating – using IOS 13.3, it fails to recognize internet connection; Bluetooth connection (for heart rate data from Apple Watch. The basic app is very useful, but would be much more so if it integrated fully with Apple Watch/iPhone.

I’ve been diagnosed with congestive heart failure and sometimes my heart races and makes me very anxious. Using the app, I can usually calm myself and reduce my heart rate. It’s a godsend!

This app was highly recommended by a doctor. Overall not terrible but I can’t connect from my Apple Watch nor will any of the videos connect. Hoping an update soon corrects these issues.

whenever i’m feeling really stressed, i just come to this app and no matter where i am, i put in headphones and just relax and distress myself. usually takes about 2-3 rounds of it for me to calm down, but very good for stressed people (such as myself) highly recommend.

I used to love this app and recommended it to my clients. However, the learn and show me how videos no longer work. They say I'm not connected to the internet, but I am and they will not play.

During session, when trying to add more time to the lengths exhale, the whole exhale timer will reset to 16 secs, totally disrupting the entire breathing session. Please correct this issue
