Tunein used to be great, and so easy to use. Now, every time I go to use it, I get a cover page. I have to log in, and use a password too. Such an annoyance! Why doesn’t tunein save my information, so I don’t have to log in every time? .

Uniformity
by Mr. Corby on 2019/05/21 14:55
All Apps, especially my TuneIn premium app and subscription, can easily "wear" the same software and hardware "language" (uniform) making functionality of the iPhone (smartphone) [minicomputer] seamless and free of unharmonious system operations. Specifically, TuneIn, can and should give me, along with any other paying listener, commercial free (with respect given to actual radio broadcasting stations) uninterrupted streaming TunedIn pleasure. Using TuneIn with Apple CarPlay is terrible. Update and fix is required!

Commercials should not interrupt mid point thru music or talking. At times the results are stopping the program you are listening to and you have to restart tune in.

Mediocre but free
by Baud2Tears on 2019/05/18 19:40
I just cancelled paid subscription. Constantly re-boots, no matter if I’m on WiFi or LTE. My WiFi is very fast & no issues w any other app/service but this one. Same for LTE. Worst thing is it reboots by chance at the most exciting points in whatever game I’m listening to. Very frustrating. But i guess there are some games you can listen to free, so anything better than nothing.

Glitches and errors
by Twinsfan2001 on 2019/05/11 19:06
The app is great when it works. And I’ve been able to listen to every sports team I like. But there has been a good amount of app errors and glitches that need to be fixed. I’ve tried to listen to college hockey games. And there have been times where the game was about to start. But the app says that it has already been played and the game hasn’t even played a minute yet. And have had app errors when I’ve been trying to listen to other sports games. And wasn’t able to listen to the game. But it’s a good app
Too much commercials
by tonNutz on 2019/05/11 14:18
I am not sure what happened with this app but I just wanted to listen to a nba station. It literally played commercials for ten min straight with no nba content. This is very frustrating and should not be this hard.

Tune in Radio
by Not A Gameplayer on 2019/05/10 02:30
Love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The two things that I do not love, is the repetitiveness of the same advertisements. The news will also keep repeating itself on a loop. Sometimes I will hear part of the news repeated 3 times in a row, before it begins to move forward.

Charged $9.99 - surprise!
by AuditDir on 2019/05/09 01:03
I thought this was a free app but then was surprised today when a charge came through. App doesn’t work well and isn’t with the fee. It often replays sections of the program I listened to, and I just gave up. You can’t cancel online...have to go to desktop pc and sign into iTunes and have to chat with a rep. The Rep was nice but it took 10 minutes to cancel. Ugh.
Not working with Mazda / CarPlay
by LAMike240 on 2019/05/08 22:47
Sine the last update, consistent connection issues when using CarPlay. Keeps saying Try Again. When it does connect, will not show Now Playing, but stay on Favorites page. Will constantly buffer with spinning wheel. Get to 80% and start over. App is now useless.

Provide a fix for BMW/MINI Connected
by sm_uk on 2019/05/08 16:33
Unfortunately, the app will close if not left in the foreground when connected to either a BMW or MINI Connected system. Why is this a problem? If you open TuneIn on your phone and connect it to your car, it works great. But, if you also want to use your phone for navigation, like most of us do, TuneIn automatically shuts down from your connect car and stops playing. Very unfortunate!

702 talk radio gets flooded with ads
by Serval1948 on 2019/05/08 08:25
How can I enjoy listening to 702 today, this is Election Day in South Africa and you are spoiling my listening with numerous advertising. (Cutting into talks, news etc). You assured me recently that ads from your side only come on at the beginning-“never during the talks otherwise people will be disillusioned just like me”, you lied! You told me ads during are done by the radio stations. These are all Americans ads 702 talk radio would use to interrupt their news? Come on, You could do better, don’t lie! What use do I have to tell you all this quite a few times. -nothing gets done on your side - you need to make changes in order for your listeners to stay with you. Can you put me in touch with your customer service before I leave your radio service with a bitter taste in my mouth. Thank you, Beate Hammonds Boerne, Texas, USA

Commercial breaks

by Country Stories R Our Stories on 2019/05/07 00:11
I’ve never written a bad review until today. I’ve gone four places to stop my rollover subscription, which was not communicated to me in advance each year. I went to the desktop website and logged in. They said I had to go to iOS. I redownloaded the app and logged in. It said go to App Store. Then was told to go to iTunes. Still haven’t found a place to unsubscribe. Quite bad business practices.
Why does your free service pause play
by IndianaStu on 2019/05/06 17:17
Seems like after 1 or two songs your programming pauses. It’s not good for my wood floors if I have to walk to my iPad to repress the play arrow when dripping wet mid-morning shower.

by Cronin321 on 2019/05/05 00:43
I’ve been using Tune In Radio as my one and only player for about 8 years or so. The most recent update threw a TON of ads all over the place. Impossible to get away from them. I decided to try the subscription finally, hoping to get even more use out of this app. Well, ads are gone but so is the recording function. The only stations I ever listen to are listener-supported stations...therefore, no ads on those stations. I like to periodically record streams for offline listening but that function is no longer there with the most recent update. Well, now due to this nonsense, I have deleted this app and won’t look back. No way this is worth $10/month.

Audio skips and jumps
by Wombatmatty on 2019/05/03 15:08
So I’ve previously posted a review about audio skipping and the developers responded to blame it on my Internet connection. I’m following up with another review of a version that is at least five releases since then. It’s still doing it and it’s not my Internet connection. So what’s going on? The audio jumps around after the stream has been paused. Take the following scenario. I’m listening to a stream. I get a phone call and the stream is paused for two minutes and 20 seconds. When I end the call, the stream resumes. At two minutes and 20 seconds into the resumed play back, the audio will skip ahead to either live or close to live. The same goes if I manually pause the stream. When I resume, it will skip ahead once I have been playing the stream for about the amount of time it was paused. I have duplicated the issue with two other iOS devices. It happens regardless of the Wi-Fi or cellular data connection I am using. It happens regardless of whether I am connected to a VPN. It happens when there is a fresh install of the app on a freshly installed iOS with nothing else done to it. I can use the web based version, whether it is on my PC or whether it is on the device I am using with the app, with no problem whatsoever. The problem seems to be app related. Further, using other apps on the same device with the same exact streams gives me no problem at all. It really is just a problem inside this app.

Sneaky
by Navschl on 2019/05/03 11:43
I originally started using this app so I could listen to radio stations from back home. However, it gives me commercials from the local area, even though I said do not use my location. It also cuts out any of the local programming such as news and commercials from the radio station, and inserts their paid for advertising.I paid the monthly fee and the application’s performance did not change, basically they just took the money. The fact you can’t set your location to where you wanted to say or anything else and that there seems to be no and advantage to paying the monthly fees makes me believe this app very sneaky and really not worth it.
No thanks to att
by jrr49 on 2019/05/03 05:18
Not satisfied with this mainly because Att offered it in the att thanks app. Thinking I’m getting something but it’s just a come on. Not worth the $10 subscription.
Tunein radio vs Premium Read the description!
by thechizwoman on 2017/12/21 21:47
I just downloaded Tunein radio. You have to be careful and read everything before you tap GET. I noticed that I was taken fo a screen that gave you a choice between 7 days or 30 days for free trial for Tunein Premium but does not disclose amount which is not good business honesty to display in my opinion. I was confused and just clicked on the X to the left and got out. However I went back and read all of Tunein radio description and it DOES tell you the difference between the plain Tunein vs the premium But you need to read carefully. When I don’t understand where I am I look for that X. Anyway I checked to see if I was charged and I wasn’t so I did the right thing. Tunein Radio is free. The radio station I was looking for endorsed Tuneinradio to find their station. I will give it sometime and then probably will change it to a 4 Star because I just got it today. So far I am pleased because I have the radio station I wanted.😊

Lived in Baltimore Maryland all of my life ! Just recently moved about an hour and fifteen minutes away to Charles Town West Virginia and I’m having a very hard time getting 105.7 The Fan ! I’ve been a Baltimore Colts fan ,a Baltimore Orioles fan and a Baltimore Ravens fan !! I’m 60 years old and have been a fan of the Colts and Orioles since I was about 7 or 8 !! Also a Ravens fan since their inception !! Im on disability so I listen to you off and on for most of the day !! I’ve called in a hand full of times but i mostly love to listen to the callers !! I especially love listening to little Mo who i keep in my prayers !! Both Bob and Ed !! Would like to continue listening to all you guys with out having too pay for it !! If i had it i wouldn’t mind paying but like i said I’m on disability and live on a rather small income !! Love the station and all the guys !! Bottom line is that i can’t afford to pay for it !! Bad enough I’ll have trouble watching the Orioles and Ravens games !!
Good app
by Superquinho on 2019/04/03 13:58
I wrote a really bad review before (read it below), and to be fair, I’m back to update. They seem to improve this App. - The random Ads are gone, so no more paid ads during radio programs. - 30 seconds reward/forward function is back The loosing of the track once you receive a phone call, or a video/audio starts playing on another app, still an issue. So if you’d like to reward 30 seconds of missed radio stream, you’re with no luck! Well, hopefully they’ll hire back whoever developer was able to add that feature back in the days! DO NO PAY FOR THIS!!!! Use the free version and save some frustration at least. I’ve been using TuneIn for at least 4 years.... and every “upgrade” this app is getting worse! I listen to a Brazilian radio station, and when they are talking the app thinks its a commercial so a Lowe’s, Home Depot and another ad from TuneIn kicks in and I miss the interview or whatever is happening! And it’s always 2 or 3 ads only.... I don’t remember because all I do it’s curse on the 5th generation of the developers :/ The latest version they got rid of the 30seconds rewind/forward! C’mon developers..... really?!?!?! And the feature I miss the most is that if another audio/video comes up, like a phone call/FaceTime you lose the streaming, having to go back to the app and press play. Back in the days, this wasn’t necessary. Over all, it works, but on the pace this is going, in a near future, you’ll only be able to listen to their paid Ads :/
Used to be great app - now just OK
by inclover22 on 2017/12/02 21:25
a. I have used TuneIn radio for at least five years (if it’s been around that long) and it’s my absolute go to. I love it and I have referred uncountable people to get it. I use it at least two hours every day, often much more on Saturdays particularly, but lately there have been problems. One problem is that it looks like the interface is new - it’s not at all as informative: I can’t any more see how to move my preferences around (prioritize, alphabetize, etc) and the shows and stations that do display in Browse display far less detail on them. I’m very frustrated b. The most annoying problem - and I’m not sure if it’s because of stream or the program itself - but on several NPR programs that I regularly stream, phrases keep repeating themselves: Two or three words will replay and then the stream will pick up and continue for a few minutes, and then two or three words at that spot will replay and then it will move on (repeat and repeat and repeating) Today on Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me! it happened 10 times easily: The timer on the page even registered that the 1 hour program (really 55 minutes because of News) took 30 + 33 minutes to complete. (I can send you a photo if you like.) c. In the Apple App Store I only see the free version. I believe what I have I paid for like 2.99, but for some reason it’s not.
Cumbersome
by TradeWorthy iTunes on 2018/03/05 12:18
I’ve been using Tunein for several years. I use it to listen to favorite radio stations from places I used to live. Tunein used to be much simpler and smoother to operate. I have an older iPhone 6, so maybe it’s the phone, but this is my first iPhone, so my comments are based on my experience with Tunein running on the same device. One problem is Tunein stops now when I access a web site. Once the site loads, if I go back to Tunein and hit play, it resumes, but it seems like that should be automatic. Tunein in used to resume on its own when it hit a glitch. If it can play, why do I have to ask it to? This problem may be the station (HFS), but the Tunein screen used to show the name of the song the station was playing, but it no longer does. Tunein just seems more sluggish and awkward than it used to, and over time, it ought to get smoother and more efficient.
Thinks censorship is an American value before elections
by Indy2017 on 2018/08/10 10:36
I used to love this app, but this week in an Orwellian and quite creepy collusion with other platforms, they “unpersoned”, completely erased, Alex Jones without notice of any violations of this platform whatsoever, and curiously, right before American elections. Is this USA, or Venezuela, or Stalinist Russia? No matter what you think of “the person” specifically, it is repugnant to everything it means to be an American, and the other platforms are already subverting the message of many others, banning touching campaign videos for example, from Cambodia-American Elizabeth Heng. This is pretty disgusting and not about a single person, so don’t be diverted with that spoon-fed distraction from the principle. Yeah, they’re “private”, people will argue, while they sell your info to others and argue themselves as “the” platforms for American public discourse, to win that market share deceptively. When opposing viewpoints scare you, your motives are questionable, if not criminal. Let ostensibly “free” people decide what they want to hear. We don’t need “big brother’. Not in this exceptional country. This is Shameful on an Epic scale.
Audiobooks gone!! 😞
by DomE080808008080808 on 2018/01/17 16:32
Many users might not be big Audiobook listeners but I am, and considering the high monthly prices for every other audiobook app out there (like Audible or Audiobooks), TuneIn was the best option! I remember when I started using this app, there were a few users and it clearly needed some app work, but I was positively surprised to find the vast collection of audiobooks in the app (with the premium subscription). TuneIn didn’t require you to pay for every new audiobook you listen to but had free amount of audiobooks for the monthly subscription price, apart from all the other radio, news stations and podcasts available. Since I only listen to Audiobooks and Podcasts, there is really no reason for me to keep paying for this app. This is a hue disappointment! I think that if TuneIn would have advertised their audiobook potential they would’ve received a vast amount of new users and a lot would have preferred it over the established Audible/Audiobooks app. If you decide to bring the audiobook section back let me know! I’ll be happy to pay for the subscription!
CBS yanked all their stations away from Tunein
by 4th Doctor fan on 2018/08/21 20:20
*To those reviews about subscription or trial period.. you DON'T need to sign up for the Premium service, nor do you need to sign up for Trial period (which does roll into a Premium paid service if you don't cancel, so just DON'T sign up for Trial period, you can just skip past anything regarding signing up). You can listen for FREE, without having to signup for anything. Too bad that CBS pulled all their CBS Sports and CBS Local News stations off from Tunein (but that is not Tunein's fault). And other censorship concerns would only apply if this were a government run service, which it is not. Those commentators have the right to free speech (with their own broadcast antenna, their own newspaper, their own website, etc) for their views, but other companies such as this can not be compelled to distribute such speech if they choose not to carry it. ---orig--- **Everyone needs to complain directly to CBS Radio (and their Entercom owner)... So evidently CBS Radio (and Entercom, who merged with them) is who forced all of their stations off of Tunein as of July/August, requiring you to use their own radio app instead (which is highly inferior to Tunein). Also, that CBS/Entercom app is not supported by Roku and other services (the way Tunein app was used by Roku). First CBS forces you onto their own subscription service for streaming TV, now they do the same thing for radio. Sad !!
A very fine internet tuner - though buffering is question
by Illuminer on 2017/11/18 18:05
So far, this is my favorite radio internet tuner. It covers so many fine stations, and allows you to buffer or store a station's past minutes if you put it on hold. It has tendency to go into a buffer mode erratically and repeats several previous seconds every so often. Actually, a bit too often for comfort. Otherwise, it works flawlessly. As it does store buffered sections, I wish there was a way to know when I'm listening to buffered sections and how many minutes it has buffered, or is in its "live" radio mode , as well being able to optionally go back and rehear previous sections of the broadcast. An update button to shift to live or shift to the buffered sections would be nice. One other needed fix is that quite often, the banner naming the program doesn't match. "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me" is listed as "Car Talk"
Great Radio App But Could Be Improved
by Jean in Tennesee on 2018/03/16 15:06
Update on review: None of these issues have been addressed. There should be something they could do to let the app continue to play when I access a web page which has a SILENT video. Original review: I have used this app for a few years now and I love it! I can listen to music and talk programs which I like much better than what is broadcast on my local stations. However, the app will often stop playing when I navigate to web pages. Usually I find that the page has a video ad which automatically but silently playing somewhere on the page. PLEASE fix this problem! There is no need for the radio to stop playing during a SILENT video. I also like to use the sleep timer at night, but in recent versions the app no longer shows how much time remains on the timer. Please fix this so we can see how much time is left. I also wish the sound was louder. I use my iPad as a portable radio and need to keep it at maximum volume when I'm only a short distance from the iPad. When there is background noise in the room, such as water running, it's often hard to hear the programs unless I use an external amplified speaker. I know my iPad's speakers can handle more volume because some of the video ads on my games are a lot louder than TuneIn.
Love the concept, but...
by Papa Smurf 05-07 on 2018/04/08 18:23
In theory, I should love TuneIn. Pay for the premium package...get all of my favorite sports teams on audio (minus Liverpool who I at least get to see on TV a fair bit). Reality doesn’t always match with theory, however, thusly the two-star rating. Why? Often, the streams are spotty, which is to say that sometimes they don’t come in at all, break-up into a spotty mess, or like I’ve been experiencing lately with the Red Sox games, completely not connecting at all. In order to listen, I’ve had to delete the app, reload it, log back in and then re-try the audio for the game. Sometimes it works...other times it stops the feed and I have to repeat the whole process to get it to work again, and hope the same failing doesn’t re-emerge. I’m giving it another week of baseball season. If a new update doesn’t fix it, I’ll head back to paying for sports audio on parents apps. At least there I’ll get a largely uninterrupted stream.
Love it, but one problem...
by GO BREWERS!!! on 2018/09/18 22:47
I love that I can listen to Brewer games wherever I’m at big fan. The only problem I have with this app is even if I have two out of my four bars of signal it buffers for ever I have to shut down the app and restart it, which wouldn’t be a problem if I could go right back in to an old game that I’m listening to and he would pick up where it left off instead of starting all over. This is also a problem because it takes so long for the games load since they are hours long so if it shuts down when I’m two hours into a game and I can only scan 30 seconds ahead this obviously takes way too long and then I end up getting so fed up because I’m trying to work while I’m listening to this day I cannot listen to the game anymore so I have to switch my app.
Indispensable for this traveler
by C of H on 2019/01/28 18:34
Update: I’m finding it does weird stuff like suddenly repeat the last several seconds or jump forward, especially bad if I have to pause a live stream, but even when I’m current. This has cause me to miss key moments I couldn’t retrieve. I demoted this by a star, hoping the developers pay attention to this annoyance. I’ll keep it at 4 stars for now, but if it gets worse I’ll be back for a further demotion. If it gets better, I’ll be back to elevate it. Original: I use this app several times a week and always on long (5+ hour) trips. Except when I have cell access trouble, I've never had a problem with this. It may even have saved my life a couple of time when I got sleepy and couldn't pull off the road. Podcasts to the rescue! The only (minor) issue I have is that it can take an annoyingly long time to buffer. This doesn't happen often and it may be more a function of wifi or Internet access. Though it happens on my strong home wifi. Can't complain, though. I use this to access radio a send other broadcasts from all over the world. I especially like to get onto live NPR when I'm traveling or missed my local show. Bottom line: Can't go wrong with a free app like this!
Dishonest company. Buyer beware!
by My MT Brain on 2018/12/15 20:50
Last year TuneIn reduced their price and touted their huge audiobook selection which got me to join. Then they dropped the feature within weeks. A reputable company would have either stated that audiobooks would be going away, or offered a refund for cost of the service given such a key feature was removed. I thought, lesson learned and set up my calendar to remind me to cancel a month before my subscription ended. When I logged in last month to cancel, there was no way to cancel online. I had to contact TuneIn via their email. I contacted them and they told me to cancel online. I replied I was not able to do so, that their site informed me to contact tech support. Then they said they cancelled my service and “Rest assured your subscription will not auto renew on your next billing date”. I’m sure you see this coming, yep they charged me! So now I have to waste more time trying to get my money back from these thieves. Stay away. You have been warned.
Ah TuneIn, why didn’t you raise the price?
by Kiriel62 on 2018/01/23 23:03
When it was decided that audiobooks weren’t working as intended, the first option was to dump them. Now I know soooo many people think $8 a month is reasonable for unlimited listening, I know that is crazy. There were no limitations like the library where you have to wait for the book to come back in. One book costs more to purchase than Tunein’s premium price. Now why didn’t you first TRY to raise your price. I would have paid 3x or more for access to this many books. I was one of the ones listening all-the-time. Now my choice is Playster which is so horrible so far, can’t find books, weirdness in charges, loses place etc. I can’t do it. I am going back to library. At least I still have Rachel & Bill at TuneIn.
Does not keep track of playhead
by Kid Rock C on 2019/04/20 05:46
So, you are listening to a podcast, but are taking a break for a few minutes to do something else. Now, you switch back to the app and discover that TuneIn kicked you out of the stream, but puts a speaker symbol next to the most-recently played episode. You may rightfully think that you can simply continue where you left off by selecting that podcast again, but you would be very mistaken. TuneIn does not remember how far into the podcast you were, it simply starts from scratch. Nice ... not. Why does it kick you back to the overview screen after you had placed the app into the background for a few minutes, and why can’t it remember the playhead position? An enigma wrapped in a mystery that only the talented programmers at TuneIn will know the answers to. I personally am still using this program to listen to NPR, but wouldn’t mind finding a smarter app.
Great, could be better...
by homeranonymous on 2017/11/29 19:01
I use this app nearly every day to listen to live talk radio from several cities or stations throughout the day. My favorite feature is also the root of my only complaint: fast forward and rewind. I LOVE being able to pause playback while on the phone or at a drive-through or etc., but the buffer could be larger and more reliable... rewinding too far or too often can cause the app to fail, jumping the buffer to the end of the content erratically. My star rating is higher than my first review since some of my concerns were addressed and improved. Yay! It would be awesome to have the ability to save the buffer to listen later! How about a timer to record a program for later playback?
Stops and restarts all the time!!
by Troy1428 on 2017/11/14 15:38
I have been a faithful user of this app - using it almost every day since I first downloaded it 4 yrs ago, and in certain ways I love it. I want to be able to give it 5 stars because I really like a lot of its feature, such as the ability to pause, rewind and fast forward, which aren't always options on other radio apps. But I had to give it 2 because it constantly stops in the middle of something I'm listening to and resets. Meaning, in the morning I like to let it play talk radio while I'm showering and then when I get out, I rewind it so I can hear what was playing and fast forward through commercials (very nice!), but maybe halfway through a 30 min section it glitches and resets to live radio so I miss everything in between. This happens at least 3 out of five times. It drives me crazy!!!
Keeps cutting off all the time
by keeps cutting off on 2018/12/08 13:32
I have several Radio apps on my iPodAnd don’t have trouble with the others but tune in continues to cut out every 20 to 60 minutes then goes back to the home screen I have to start it up again sometime to start and immediately cut off then sometimes it will start and stay on 420 to 60 minutes. It’s not my Wi-Fi that’s not my iPad because I don’t have this problem with other app and don’t have trouble with the others but tune in continues to cut out every 20 to 60 minutes then goes back to the home screen I have to start it up again sometimes it starts and immediately cut off then sometimes it will start and stay on 420 to 60 minutes. It’s not my Wi-Fi that’s not my iPad because I don’t have this problem with other apps
Review
by New orchid on 2017/10/12 20:31
I'm gonna say I like this app because it's got plenty of options besides books. My other app was audible for five years but they have an egregious method of getting new books. Tune in app has all sorts of books and documentaries and music and a wide variety of interesting stuff! By egregious I mean you can't get new books on the app but rather you go to the actual site and pick the book and download the book and then back out to the app and "wait". It's just a dinosaur and I need books on demand because I'm a member of a book club. Your price is quite hefty but it's totally worth it. By the way why don't you offer "war brides"? I can't find it for book club
Easier than station sites & apps
by Outdoor Janitor on 2019/03/25 14:03
Often works better than a station’s own app or web site player —began to use this app when it was difficult to get my desktop to start the listen live feature of a local news talk station. It's got a bit of a delay, but that's cool if you are vein, and you want to hear what you said on a call-in show – but aside from that, having a profile with my favorite Christian, & news stations – & being able to pick a syndicated show, and listen even if it's from across the nation, is cool. Occasionally some glitch causes 5 to 30 seconds of a show to repeat, but I don't believe anything is ever dropped…
No free versions anymore?!
by ah20_damsel_fly on 2018/09/24 13:03
I’ve had this app for years and always had the free version so I could listen to my morning radio program clearly since where I lived it was spotty on the radio. When I got my new phone I went to download the app, and got this updated version that is now “pay only” thru a 7 day or more trial. Even tho there’s an advertisement for a free version, you only have the option to chose a free trial and paid subscription when you hit the “start listening” button. Come on.... even Pandora has an easy free version with ads I listen to. I just wanted my local radio stations to be clear. If this is what it’s become I’ll just not listen anymore and delete this crap. I’m not about to fall for a trial I can’t get out of so you can swindle my money. I’m on a fixed income and just wanted to laugh a couple hours in the morning between Z93 and Bob and Tom. 🖕🏼🙎🏻‍♀️
Corporate greed specialist hired by tune in for app revamp
by mrbungle5 on 2018/01/03 20:53
I’ve used tune in for many years now and was psyched to see the new updated app. Upon download it only offered me two options, both of which come with a $99 subscription. I instantly deleted app. Honestly I was afraid of hitting the wrong button it was so confusing (and I’m sure it was designed that way). As I went through the reviews for the update, there was one frequent response to a lot of the complaints, “TuneIn is free for all users”. When trying out the app I looked to avoid the subscription sign-up and tryed to use it for free, there was no way to do it, it kept sending you back to the subscription page every time you hit “play” on a station. It seems as though tunein has hired a corporate greed specialist to eek out any subscription fees they could, plaguing previous and new users alike with a $99 fee. Ouch.
Only use it because there are no other options
by mandylion6 on 2018/08/22 11:19
It’s the only way to listen to my local radio stations while I’m traveling. However, if there were other options I would use them instead. Some of the programs I’m listening to are so quiet I have to have the volume maxed out only to injure my ears when the advertisements start. This is not a problem when I listen to these stations on my radio. Other times it gives me the ad that usually plays when you start the station on repeat instead of the station. If you aren’t careful with an unlocked screen, you can tap sketchy banner ads asking for all your personal information. They allow obvious scams to advertise on them like “tap now for a free iPhone!!” This app has a lot of potential, but these issues need to be fixed.
Scammy “Subscription” Techniques
by nikkirieken on 2019/02/12 13:15
Trial-user beware! I tried this service’s free trial. The service was fine, but it wasn’t something that I personally found worth paying for. So, I did all the steps to cancel my subscription. But NO, apparently you have to cancel your subscription again, even if you have ALREADY cancelled it. So I find a $100 charge on my credit card for a service and app that I had cancelled and deleted a month ago! And adding to the unfairness, instead of being reasonable and charging for one month of this service, they charge for a FULL YEAR. Now, they’ve taken $100 from me and will NOT refund me, even after I described the situation. So if you do your free trial and want to cancel before you get charged, be sure to cancel twice. Heck maybe a third time. Maybe cancel that credit card. Maybe even change your name and move to another country.
From great (2012) to decent (2015) to awful (2017)

Newer "Newish review".... WHY WOULD YOU REMOVE THE IN-APP VOLUME CONTROL?????????? ______________ "Newish review".... since they only allow you to "edit" reviews, not post new ones. STAR TAKEN AWAY. I NEVER would have updated as past new versions have constantly let users down, but 75% of stations I listened to previously stopped working. I thought it was an update issue, so I updated. SURPRISE!! Guess what?? 75% of the stations I used to listen to on TuneIn STILL don't work. "We're sorry but an error has occurred". There version of the spinning carousel wheel. Also, the new UI format is heavy handed, clumsy and honestly a big step back into 2010. AND WEIRDLY... why up rewind or ff buttons to 30 sec??? 15 sec was just fine!! You just set yourself back another 4 years w that one TI. #stoptryingtofixstuffthataintbroke! My review from 2015..., FYI Why?! I'll tell you why... So they can play another ad when you have to restart stream manually. So ridiculous. We all get it, you need money to run this thing, but STOP BEING SO GREEDY and running horribly mainstream and REMARKABLY INEFFECTIVE ads EVERY TIME A CHANNEL IS TUNED. I use this app because it's the only option with this many stations. The second someone develops one even remotely close to tunein, I'm deleting.

by jpwinkle on 2017/09/22 15:36
Paid for TuneIn Pro a few years back for commercial free RADIO ONLY-I just wanted 1 place I could select stations that played the music, usually classical, I wanted. Well, I haven't used it for a while so, to my surprise, I needed to download a new version that won’t let me in without signing up for a 7 day or 30 day trial after which I must pay monthly. No, I’m not doing that after taking note of the difficulty reviewers have in discontinuing. I have a problem with paying for an “upgrade” version of any app, only to have the developer change the terms/price later. Especially for a continuing monthly subscription for a whole bunch of stuff in which I have no interest. The 4 & 5 star reviewers seem to have started after the subscription era started & seem happy. Those of us who paid for the “Pro” version seem to rightly feel used!
No customer support
by MayorJim on 2018/09/13 03:14
Be very careful with this app. I purchased the premium ver. for $100. I renewed my sub on 9/11 via the Apple store with my VISA. On 9/12 I got a fraud warning from my Bank that TuneIn charged $50 on my MasterCard. I tried contacting TuneIn 1st, but they have no customer service phone...just email. So, I emailed them. After several hours of no reply, I contacted my bank and they placed a stop pay and reissued a new CC card to me. TuneIn finally got back to me and wanted a screen shot of my bank statement (lol, yeah right). I sent them the fraud alert showing the $50 transaction. After about 12 hours, TuneIn got back, via email, saying I’d have to contact Apple with any concerns. My concern was that TuneIn tried charging me twice via 2 different CCs ...and 2 different amounts. As I said...watch your payments with this outfit VERY closely since you can’t call them...and they can’t read!
Bait and Switch Premium Upgrade
by GADFLY SOUP on 2018/04/20 00:07
I had no warning I “was upgrading to Premium status.” The upgrade was buried in a request for a Google email address. This isn’t free. Not all stations are Ad-free, even paying for Premium. I want to shut it off. Now, they’re directing I go to my ITunes account to stop the auto billing. But, there’s no way to do that from my iPhone. Is this more of Apple abandoning it’s users by playing Bait and Switch? You know Apple is getting their cut of the monthly premium fee. Shame on you company executives. I can just hear them responding “Did you read the fine print before we pushed you off the cliff?”
What once was...
by sonofwolf1 on 2018/02/17 18:14
Unfortunately, the tune in app no longer operates free from many commercial interferences — I find local (Chicago) AM radio to be worse... I got the app to listen to WBEZ 91.5 NPR. What’s truly odd is that the early versions operated mostly without glitches, whereas now it’s fraught with them, ie unexpected channel changes etc. And this is all totally weird because one would think later versions would’ve attended to glitches. No, it’s not my device(s) either. Another annoyance is the pay to listen “major” sports airings, which I doubt anyone actually pays to listen to... Instead tune in tunes out local coverage. Thanks

I signed up for the free trial trying to listen to an interview my daughter was participating in in my home town while I was out of town and so couldn’t pick up the radio station signal. I googled the radio station and it said I would be able to listen to the radio station on the TuneIn App. I downloaded it for free, but said I had to subscribe to listen. Hence, I signed up for the free trial. However, I wasn’t able to listen to her interview because after I had signed up, it said it had no live feeds from the radio station I needed. I canceled it today, being one week later. They had already billed me the $9.99 for the month even though I did not use the app AT ALL and canceled it before the free trial ended! You should NOT have to cancel a free trial subscription 24 hours before the free trial ends to avoid being charged the monthly renewel fee. Not Cool!!!
-nothing gets done on your side - you need to make changes in order for your listeners to stay with you. by wily ludo on 2017/10/19 02:40
I use the Zoomed display setting on my iPhone. Since v12.0 of this app was released, the playback controls have been overlayed with the playback progress bar, making the controls difficult to activate. When you touch them, usually nothing happens. The menu containing access to sleep timer is particularly difficult to activate. If I change my phone’s display settings, the app works fine. But I am not changing a global preference to accommodate one app’s design oversight. I have tried numerous times to report this bug via tunein support but it’s as if the reps don’t use the app, as they *always* say they don’t understand what I’m describing, and they have never escalated my reports to the engineers who would understand. I have used TuneIn apps for many years on many phones. Today I am trying alternatives. Goodbye tunein.
Tune-in
by Tinkham on 2018/08/13 17:43
Writing reviews for me is rare. So, praise for this app is after a couple of years of use. The trade off of tune-in ads to radio time is low in my opinion, depending on sought network. This also depends on isp data plan. The app functions well (fully) w no noticeable interruptions to explicitly upgrade to paid version. As a radio app it is great for stations far away. Local stations are well served too, but an option to use FM tuner on chip through app w out internet connectivity during emergency situations would be a good idea (unfortunately Apple does not believe in serving users this functionality as of yet).
PLEASE CONTACT ASAP
by Heathbarheather on 2018/07/25 00:58
I just sent customer support an email and need your prompt attention. I only had this app downloaded for 2 minutes to find a local station. When I didn’t find it, I deleted the app, not realizing that I was signed up for an account with an automatic deduction of $106 from my account. I do not use this app or want this subscription and PLEASE need a refund and someone to contact me immediately as I am in the midst of a nervous breakdown over this lost money. I absolutely will delete this negative review once I am contacted, but don’t know how else to make sure I have your attention. Thank you.
Used to be solid
by NPries10 on 2018/03/01 13:17
I have used tunein for years and loved it, but very recently, the app stopped working so I deleted it and reinstalled it. It fixed the initial problem but then the app gave me the 3 options for a “7 day trial,” “30 day trial,” or “start listening for free.” I never minded the ads so I always would listen for free. Little did I know that this was just a year long trial after which they would charge you $99 if you didn’t end it. Seems kind of sly to me. It is not easy to cancel the trial either, as you have to dig around in the App Store or on the computer to find it. I am quite disappointed in this company, as it seems they may be trying to scam people buy making them get “free” trials that will charge them money if they don’t cancel them. I hope they change this back to the way it was before.
My favorite App
by Gay/Gay on 2017/12/09 13:57
I cannot say enough about this App! I love books, but I have no time to sit down and read. With Tune In app I am able to enjoy a book as I drive to work, put on make-up, or do housework. I can look in the search window and find any interviews that may be available of my favorite authors. If you are a podcast listener a lot of the podcast are released one day early so I can be first to know about my favorite podcast. If you are on the go as much as I am and would still enjoy listening to a podcast, the news, or sport shows, I highly recommend this app.
Good app, but...
by Pastor Andy G. on 2018/10/09 14:29
The constant buffering is annoying. I’ll be listening to the talking portion or a favorite song, when suddenly, it pauses. What’s more, instead of continuing in real time, it continues where it left off, then cuts something else off later to catch up. And when it freezes (and it does), and I close it out then re-open it, now I have to listen to one of their ads before listening to my favorite channel. Suggestion for TuneIn: if you’re going to pause to buffer, continue on in real time. I’d rather it be live in real time (or a setting to decide) than cut something off to catch up later. There also seems to be a certain sweet spot for the swipe to delete, because if I swipe all the way across (as with other iPhone options), it flips back. If I flip it just past the red delete part, it flips back again. It’s real frustrating, like we’re being discouraged from deleting, you know? Just how badly do you want to delete this channel? It’s also a really basic app - not many settings, nor a “back” or “cancel” button when you go into search.
My experience
by 100218 wolverine on 2018/10/02 14:56
I was looking for a way to pick up a radio station in another town to listen to a ncaa football game. I downloaded the app and then realized there was a monthly charge to use it. I knew about the one week “trial”. I never opened the app because the next game I wanted to listen to was on TV. The one week “trial” doesn’t give a person very much time to use the app for trial. I had forgotten about the monthly fee until iTunes sent me a notice they had charged my cc for the monthly fee. I deleted the app the moment I realized what had happened. I will continue to try to rid myself of this fee and the app. Unless you listen to a great deal of radio programming I don’t see how anyone can get a decent trial in one week. If you are like me and have a single purpose/reason for trying the app don’t download this app for “trial”.
Used to be great, now just ok, kinda
by praise bojengals on 2019/03/27 13:30
Used to be a great app to listen live to radio from all over while being able to rewind and even record. The app has been slimmed down a bit and functionality has suffered. I understand having to upgrade to record now, but the app constantly loses its place now if you rewind. You may rewind to hear something you missed, but then while your listening, it will jump forward at random points skipping whatever is in between while not letting you go back. There are other things as well. It’s a good app if you never used it previously I guess, but it wil frustrate you if are trying to pay attention and have to back track, it will leave you with a gap in audio of its own choosing.
Avoid app is terrible and cost is absurd
by 122847575 on 2018/05/10 04:07
I wanted a way to listen to NHL games while I was traveling. When searching I was directed to tunein. I decided to give it a try. I selected the 30 day trial and immediately found out the app was useless. I got rid of the app within a week because it had no use. My travel visa is about to expire in a few days so I had planned to leave today but my card was disabled cause it was trying to be charged the $100 subscription fee. So now I’m in a foreign country with about $20 cash on me in limbo cause I cannot access my bank. By the time a new card will be sent to me my visa will have expired. Thank you for the terrible app and also thank you for costing me a few thousand dollars in delaying my work. Seriously this app is just a scam avoid it at all cost cause it will cost you a lot.
Audio quality
by Jon beast on 2018/09/01 02:39
I absolutely love the tune in app, but as college football season has started, I’ve been extremely disappointed in tune in’s performance. It is extremely choppy, and constantly jumps back into the broadcast as if someone’s hitting rewind on the game. It does this repeatedly over and over again. I know it’s not my Wi-Fi, because I turned my Wi-Fi off, and still had the same problem. I’ve also tried on multiple devices, and I still get the same result. I’ve also tried it on different games, and got the same result. If the developers could fix this problem, that would be awesome. I use this app to listen to all my college football games, so it’s extremely disappointing that it’s performance has become so bad.
Long term TuneIn Pro
by RhondaTaylor on 2018/05/23 01:45
I paid for TuneIn Pro a LONG time ago when you could listen to everything just fine on the free TuneIn and I must have gotten most friends and family and acquaintances to use it, even pay for it. You could listen to most stations and you could record radio right in the app and it was great. I still love it, but wish that I could still have a recording scheduled and TuneIn come up on its on and record the stream. I also really miss some of my favorite channels here in Alabama like Montgomery’s 1440 AM Newstalk and Birmingham’s station with my FAVORITE talk shows on them and still hear Alabama news on the breaks.
SCAN VS FF & RW
by DeuceWalls on 2018/05/07 11:35
I really hope this comment gets read by the developers. This morning I was listening to the app while working out and I left it on and running to go shower and came back to rewind it (like I ALWAYS used to do) but what do I find, NO RW button!! Why fix something that isn't broken?? Who told the developers that we wanted a scan button over rewind and fast forward? The worst part is that I mistakenly pressed FF 30secs on my Apple Watch (apparently it hasn't updated to say "Scan") so instead of hearing the next part of the radio show, I skipped to the next radio station and missed the whole segment I wanted to hear!! It's an easy fix to revert back to the easier MORE EFFICIENT version. Please fix this! This app otherwise was a 5 star app for me.
Tunein Rules!
by Eb4spell on 2018/03/23 17:05
I really like this app! I first started listening for 'Old Time Radio ' programs, and there are a plethora of them here. I entered the world of podcast series which really draw you in. There is a limitless number of FM stations and specialty channels that can quench any musical taste. Tunein is always there for me when I need music to suit my mood or a story to engage my imagination. Try the app , explore new relms. Thanks tunein!! Endless stories , great music , good listening! Great stories , so many choices I am just scratching the surface! Love this app , always there for you. Thanks for these podcasts! Great for the imagination!
My schedule and NPR schedule don’t always match
by Pmginsberg on 2017/12/31 00:53
For me, All Things Considered is a daily pleasure that I afford myself whenever possible. I live in EST and, depending on circumstances, I may not be able to hear it at 4 pm when it begins on my local station. Because of this app I’m able to follow the show across times zones ( as late as 8pm EST I can still pick up the show airing in PST). I’ve also found many interesting programs and lots of new music via the app. What a great era we live in wherever this is possible. I’m 70 now and look forward to the next gen!!!
Doesn't Work Well &a Shady Business Practices
by BadamsAdamson on 2017/11/09 02:19
First, the app doesn't work well. I used the premium version in multiple locations almost all wit wifi active and good cell signal and it was so spotty. Cut out all the time and then took forever to buffer. The opposite of a smooth listening experience. Beyond the bad quality, they are shady as can be. I did the free trial. It requires payment information to get. I hated that right off the bat, but many companies do it so I still tried it. But past that they make it extremely difficult to figure out how to cancel. I knew going in their gimmick was to try and trick people into auto-renewing to get their $$. Even knowing that, and being tech savvy, it was still difficult to figure out how to cancel. That is not an accident. Beware.

For the last two days my phone is charged at 100 before I go to bed and when I wake up it’s at 30. No apps running, then I go to battery management and shows your app has been running in the background for more than one hour even though I have disabled app refresh for tune in and had manually killed the app, please look into this

Great programming. Constant repeating of phrases 3-4 times in a row is very annoying.

Why does your free service pause play
by IndianaStu on 2019/05/06 17:17

by Cronin321 on 2019/05/05 00:43
I’ve been using Tune In Radio as my one and only player for about 8 years or so.

From great (2012) to decent (2015) to awful (2017)
by I ♥ Hackney™ on 2017/10/10 01:22
Newer "Newish review".... The second someone develops one even remotely close to tunein, I'm deleting.
like a pyramid scheme
by jpwinkle on 2017/09/22 15:36
Paid for TuneIn Pro a few years back for commercial free RADIO ONLY-I just wanted 1 place I could select stations that played the music, usually classical, I wanted.
Thanks
Won’t refund

Not Cool!!!
Thank you, Beate Hammonds Boerne, Texas, USA
v12 broke the playback controls
by wily ludo on 2017/10/19 02:40
I use the Zoomed display setting on my iPhone.

Beware.
