Can’t get my favorite stations because of “ streaming errors”
by 169 edge on 2021/07/23 23:30
Stations I’ve listened to for years show a “streaming error” message now. According to the stations, it’s because of a change that’s been made on your end. So if I want to listen to stations you want me to listen to, I’m in great shape. Thanks, but no thanks.

App stinks when it comes to pausing radio
by Rob O76 on 2021/07/20 16:53
Giving it 2 stars because it works well live.
Getting worse
by Sick of Matt B on 2021/07/19 23:06
When I first got the app it really wasn’t that good. There would be constant pauses in the stream. Now it’s literally not live TV. It’s just the same thing playing over and over again at different times of the day. Primarily on CNN and also MSNBC. I’m about to unsubscribe
Review
by MonsterChuko on 2021/07/19 17:26
Why do some channels play live and some where you could pause and rewind? And please do not do commercials in the middle of a song that really ruins it for a person the song is only for five minutes long max you don’t need to put a commercial in the middle of a song

I like being able to hear WGNJ online at 89.3 FM in Champaign IL area. Sometimes I cannot wait to hear the next words or song when I leave my car. Thanks for featuring this station. #AllistairBegg #SouthernGospel

My categories continue to be rearranged
by InternetBarb on 2021/07/19 07:16
This app has been pretty good, and I considered purchasing the pro version—but not with simple things getting messed up. Specifically, I created multiple categories to organize my favorites by the genres and ordered each station by frequency of use. Last year the order was getting changed by itself. Recently ALL of my stations are listed together in each of my categories. I worked to curate stations to make it convenient to find what I want, when I want it. Now it takes forever to find what I’m looking for. Also, the description of what is currently playing live fails to be accurate at all and/or update as programs change (specifically, shows on old time radio stations). This has regularly occurred which is another reason I have not yet paid for the pro version. This app is useful and fun/interesting, so it is disappointing that glitches continue to happen instead of getting better.

Just doesn’t work with Carplay
by kbklarry on 2021/07/16 12:32
Tunein told me it would be fixed in their next release. It wasn’t. Never mind that it doesn’t work with Siri because it also won’t work when manually selecting the app. The message I get on Carplay is that it can’t connect to Tunein. All my other apps work.
Crashes about four times a day
by Andrew Duong on 2021/07/15 20:02
I’m using the latest version of TuneIn Radio 21.0.1 and iOS 14.6 and the app crashes between two to five times per day as I’m trying to stream my favorite station WDUV (105.5 The Dove). I have restarted both the app and my iPhone 11 each day. This is far beyond pathetic!

Disappointing update and continued ads on MSNBC
by deebhoo on 2021/07/14 16:15
Update caused content to stop plying when Facebook opens. Also Premium version MSNBC still has commercials pretty often.
Usually good, hasn’t worked for a bit
by WBBerry on 2021/07/14 14:34
For some reason things freeze when commercials come in to play. It works half the time w/ Apple CarPlay and 75% otherwise. Not sure it’s worth it to bump up to ad free if it’s going to have issues.

Really good app to leasing radio
Useless
by RbrtR on 2021/07/13 10:49
I used to use this app daily. Somewhere along the way something has changed. No matter what station I listen to, the stream constantly “restarts”, with the station’s tag playing over again and then returning to the stream. Listening this morning, that process happens about every 20 seconds. I’m off to install the individual apps of my favorite stations.

App crash
by wetpaint86 on 2021/07/10 17:27
I listen to sports events while working and it was awesome when I first got the app. All the major sports has games here now only a few do and when listening I have to stop working ans restart the app literally every 1-2 minutes because it will just turn itself off and there’s nothing more frustrating than something exciting happening and in the middle of the announcers excitement the app stops so I turn it back on to not even know what happened because it takes forever to restart the app is when it does start it pays a commercial I have heard 1000 times then returns to the game and then shuts off again in a few seconds. I have messaged to cancel my plan and they won’t respond so I’m going to have to cancel my debit card and set up everything I use auto bill on the get this over. If this app was free it would still be too much to pay.

Why pay for TuneIn …
by EarthDog7 on 2021/07/09 02:47
Why am I paying when the ads play anyway? I have emailed repeatedly for months but TuneIn seems unable to honor my paid subscription. Not worth paying cuz you still get the ads.
A bit unhappy
by Mtnhunter1 on 2021/07/08 14:23
I’m not very impressed with the new updates. Namely the app opening where it ended! Also, many of my fav stations I could listen to coast to coast am w/ George Norry are no longer available! I received a response from tune-in regarding the small issue I didn’t care for and was informed how to correct it & did, easily. Now I’m completely impressed again. I’ve been using this app for many yrs & see no reason to change nor did I want to. All I had to do is turn off auto-play. Thank u Tune-in radio
Constantly interrupting
by 🇺🇸🔱⚓️ on 2021/07/08 12:42
I really liked this app and bragged about how much better it was over iHeart Radio but lately it’s been horrible. Constantly putting insurance commercials on and the same one over and over. When listening to baseball they break in with a commercials in the middle of game and sometimes right in the middle of a great play. I have went back to my regular radio and unfortunately back to iHeart radio
Great

Love to see the app improvement. Seems like it never buffers anymore. Fantastic!
no free version with update
by Fitguy111 on 2021/07/06 11:54
the update forces you to agree to subscribe in order to open the app. It's not worth paying $15 monthly and I rarely use it anyway, but I've had the app for years and it was always good until now.

No Recording
by ke4rz1 on 2021/07/05 16:26
The pro version of this app used to have a feature that allowed you to record a stream on a schedule. That feature has been removed and that’s just about the only reason why you would want to pay for the pro version.
Didn’t work
by 19RW84 on 2021/07/05 07:41
I downloaded the app and tried to listen, but when I selected a radio station, it would never load and always gave me an error message. I tried it on wifi and off and in different places and it still wouldn’t play no matter which channel I had chosen. I deleted the app on the same day I downloaded it.

by was221 on 2021/07/04 15:18
Great app. Love it! But recently there is a bug that prevents custom URL’s from playing from the favorites list. Hopefully this can be fixed. Also I have an old iPod touch 3rd gen with tunein 4.3 on it that allows me to play these URL’s plus provides album art and song info, something the current version does not do.

I Love Old Time Radio
by Space Happy Joe on 2021/07/04 06:18
I recall many of these shows as a child.in the early 1950s. Such as Sergeant Preston, Wild Bill Hickok with fictional but funny partner, Jingles, The Cisco Kid, the B Bar B Riders that introduced Don Knotts a few years before The Andy Griffith Show. His first character that I remember was Wendy wales. I could go on and on. The Lone Ranger, The Shadow, et al. There are those that were before my time such as The Phil Harris & Alice Faye Show, Jack Armstrong, Henry Aldridge, Philip Marlow that are, even though I don’t remember them, I find them very entertaining. Please keep them coming.

Wish I could see what’s playing
by Bittenbagel on 2021/07/03 15:58
All around great app, in my opinion, with the one exception that I can’t see what song/mix is playing (Deep House Radio) while on other radio apps I can. This makes me have to go to the DHR website and check the mix name. I stick with TuneIn because the stream rarely breaks/stutters. Just wish I could see what was playing and not just have the radio station name show.

by McSear on 2021/06/30 13:23
I tried ALL the radio apps & streaming music playlists apps. This app still gets used most. =^) Primo mix of offerings + reliable. Sure, it’s slightly weaker on podcasts, and the music services are very good. Tunein seems to have the right mix for me. Certainly best news offerings above all. Reliable for 21 mos. [I went Pro version. GR8 deal.] #RECOMMENDED iPhone 8 running iOS 14.6

Every time you bug me for a rating, I am rating 1. You’re violating App Store guidelines by not using the standard prompt.
Monthly fee
by Gemontana on 2021/06/29 11:43
No mention of monthly fee in the ad. Buyer beware. The app presents you with screens that seem to have no way to remove unless you download another app. Otherwise a pleasant experience. I was contacted by the developer and offered for a fee service, but no mention of cost. I just wish app developers and apple woiid be up front with costs.
TuneIn Radio is the BEST out there!
by Pelle58 on 2021/06/29 03:54
What more can you ask for? TuneIn radio has all the American Radio stations broadcast on the internet as well as International stations worldwide. It’s great to listen to your hometown radio station when you are in another state as well as for my European parents and in-laws to listen to the music in their own language from their old home countries. Works well on my iPhone as well as on Apple CarPlay in my car. Well I could ask for one more thing, I wish they had an app for the AppleTV so that I don’t have to AirPlay or Bluetooth it there so I could use my smartphone for other activities.
Delay response when using Apple CarPlay
by Hjzambo on 2021/06/28 16:44

Dishonest trash
by SeanradPasta on 2021/06/22 16:10
Downloaded it, opened it, *immediately* hit by a pop up: “Sign up for a 7 day free trial and then $15/month” after that. Why does Apple still allow apps that are completely unusable without a paid subscription? Edit: Underpaid and overly abused customer support person responded with an unfortunately dishonest piece of copy that the app is free. The app is not free. The app costs $15/month. If it was actually free then the very first thing presented upon installing and opening the app would not be something telling users they’re only allowed 7 free days before being forced to pay $15/month.

I choose not to be disappointed by this App
by Trout, Kilgore on 2021/06/16 19:01
I remember when I first downloaded Tune-In, it quickly became one of my most frequently used apps. Then the inevitable updates came and I found myself sadden to see the ability to record radio shows removed and with each update, the app continued to be stripped of its original appeal. I sustain that while we cannot choose who constitutes a disappointment in our lives we can indeed choose not to be disappointed by a little silly app on our phones.

Awful company do not purchase
by Prowlerz1 on 2021/06/12 23:10
This is review is directed to their customer service and the company as a whole. It’s hard to say how Silicon Valley companies became so anti consumer and incapable of simple things but this app is a perfect example of when everything works it’s fine, when things go off the rails they basically revert to, “customer why do we care with all the funding we get from our angel investors.” When covid hit I lost all access to my NBA team and the ability to listen to games which is why I have this stupid overpriced service. When it came time to renew I let them know this and had no interest in renewing until the NBA came back and in fact I felt owed half my money back as the only reason I use the service is to listen to games. I was met with a too bad and we aren’t going to do anything about it. When the NBA comes back I won’t be renewing my service and recommend to everyone to cancel and not renew as TuneIn is under the impression that people use their service to listen to dumb podcasts I can listen to for free and not live NBA games. Great station
Impossible to listen to!
by Fed#Up! on 2020/06/12 13:01
I primarily use TuneIn to listen to MSNBC “commercial free live”. It used to work flawlessly. In the last six months or so, it has become increasingly impossible to listen to. The broadcast stutters, then stops, then jumps forward, then repeats parts you have heard before, then stops altogether. Rinse, repeat all the above. In the place of commercials, the app used to play short pieces of items “from earlier today that you might not have heard”. I have heard the exact same past news snippets now for months—they are definitely not all “from today”. And often it is not past news I hear, but parts of commercials. (I am paying for commercial free.) The only time this spring that the stuttering, stopping and repeating did not happen was when content was interrupted instead with the announcement that “this station is experiencing technical difficulties”. Ironic that said difficulties were absent during this time—but they are back now that the “This station is experiencing...” interruptions have stopped. I have an image in my head of a group of chimps at the controls, randomly pushing all the buttons in front of them, while eating popcorn and spilling soda all over the control board. This is a maddening listening experience, and I have paid good money for nothing! Buyer beware!!!!
This is an edit of my previous review—5 stars
by Oli and Jacq on 2021/01/10 00:57
Somehow tune in has cured the app of the bleed through ads and the redundant “you may have missed” problem. Thanks for making the changes and fixing this really useful app! —what I wrote previously for your information and comparing: I could’ve written the summer 2020 review! Exact issues regarding trying to enjoy msnbc commercial free by subscribing via premium. I had many back and forths with friendly help clerks. Never solved the problem. Commercials bled through, five minutes of inanity between segments of news, long, repetitive “something you may not have heard from earlier today”, left us frustrated and finally we are giving up on this app. Wish there was a logical explanation for why they couldn’t deliver what I bought—commercial free. Let me know if you worked it out for real.
Need to fix buffering
by DrumGuy6 on 2020/03/12 11:32
Update: The buffering was fixed and worked for a period of months, however recently the ability to pause and playback was removed from the app. Now hitting pause will only save data for a minute or so, then no additional steam is saved and the recording just jumps forward to live. Prior to this the app would save about 30min before jumping to live. This is a huge setback in app performance and makes the app almost useless, since even a short phone call will result in missing part of a broadcast. Hopefully this feature is restored, in the meantime I will unfortunately have to look for a new app. Too bad because I have used this for years and enjoyed it. First of all and probably most importantly, the app content is great. However there are issues with buffering that need to be fixed. The app offers pause and RW/FF functions, but if you pause for even a short time the app will skip ahead midstream once you are playing back the buffered content. Also when playing back buffered content it will randomly repeat a few second long portion several times. Buffering is a feature used on many apps these days and it usually works flawlessly, this app needs to fix these issues to compete. If buffering was fixed this would be a 5 star review.
Horrible
by chrisloyd on 2021/03/05 01:17
I only use this because it’s the only app I can stream certain station through. Their ads are awful, cut off the middle of live broadcasts and sometimes get stuck repeating in a loop. At best, they sync their ads with the live broadcast schedule, at worst they randomly play, cutting off the middle of a show. They also play ads in the middle of podcasts and god forbid you press the pause buttons for you will surely hear another ad before play resumes. A month or so ago the repeatedly played a Carl’s junior ad where you could hear the producer speaking before the spot and the sound mix was hilarious. You can hear the “boop” where the ad begins on multiple ads as well. So amateur. I paid a one time $9.99 for this app years ago but now they expect you to subscribe for some reason. Maybe the awful ads are their incentive? The mail channels are basic as well. There are so many better apps but, like I said, this one has some stations that none of the others do. They also didn’t ban certain broadcasters like all the other ‘woke’ apps have but I almost hesitate in saying that for fear they one day will. Reply to dev: You guys say you strive to make this a better app but, seriously, how hard can it be to not spam ads just for hitting the pause button or switching an audio output source?
Not as good as iHeart Radio
by Donny from Queens on 2019/08/01 14:42
The app does well for streaming live radio stations. Where it falls flat is podcasts. It doesn’t remember where I left off in a particular one. Instead, it starts me off at the very beginning 19 times out of 20. I have to take screen shots of the time (if I can remember) when I exit, and then I usually have to wait a minute for it to slowly buffer up to, say, minute 47 of an hour long podcast when I come back o finish ... SUPER annoying. They throttle the download rates to conserve bandwidth on their end for sure. Contrast this with iHeart radio, which remembers where I left off in ANY given podcast and starts me off there. Where this gets REALLY bad is if I exit the app for a minute. Unless I exit and come back within about 10 seconds, it will forget where I left off and I have to go through the whole thing again (except I didn’t screen shot it, so I don’t know the time). It’s garbage on this point, good for live radio, and I don’t use the rest of the functionality. Unfortunately, radio stations go for tunein or iHeart, so there isn’t a choice ... but I would use iHeart for podcasts EVERY TIME over tunein if I could.
Apple Watch Trouble
by Nickolodeamus on 2021/05/02 18:42
Have long used and enjoyed the app on my iPhone and iPad mini. I recently bought an Apple Watch, and the app is really finicky on the watch, especially when trying to start music or change channels. Once music gets going, the start, stop, rewind/forward, and volume controls work fine, but the Watch’s own audio software allows for that with any audio/video source in use at the time...so nothing gained by having a separate Tuned In app on the watch. Because of the unreliability on the Watch, I end up gravitating back to my phone to get music started and, occasionally, to switch channels. Customer Service told me the Watch app is only a remote control for the phone app....but it is not yet an effective one. Will remove the app from my Watch if the functionality doesn’t improve. Aside from being limited in its ability to function as designed, that design only allows the Watch to display a list (no graphics) of recently listened to stations...cannot bring up favorites or browse or do anything else.
Inconsistent At Best
by NashChip on 2021/02/14 20:01
I've exhausted my options with this app. When it works, it works great. But every so often, it has a mind of its own where no matter how long I wait for a station to load, it simply doesn't start. It simply spins in place. Yes, I have strong WiFi. Yes I've tried on LTE. Yes I've tried on 5G. It's not a connectivity issue. I have an iPhone 12. The only way around it is to close the app and restart it, but even that's not a guarantee. I have to try on average 3-5x before the station will load. It also seems to does it out of nowhere in the middle of when the station is working. I was listening to a particularly important news story (again, with full strength internet connectivity) and the station simply dropped. I closed the app and reopened it and of course I had to listen to the 60 seconds of ads that are no longer relevant (today I heard ads about the "upcoming impeachment vote" which has already happened...but I digress) and the station still didn't load. Again, when it works, it goes on a long streak of being perfect, but when it decides to go on strike, a miracle is necessary for it to work again. That's usually when I forget about it for a few weeks and then come back.
The repeat when playing live shows...
by Cool jey on 2019/11/20 14:44
I assume Tunein is made to do this on purpose but it’s far too sensitive....have used tunein for a few years but don’t remember being this bad- when I am listening to a news show live, like CNN, it will replay the same part not twice, but 3-5 times, I assume this is when the app detects a slower connection. I have tried numerous times to mess with settings and can’t get it to stop - it makes listening to anything live virtually impossible unless you want to be driven crazy. This happens over my Sonos which plays everything else perfectly in my home over WiFi (via fiber optic) so not sure why tunein is different. It is also happening more on my phone app. I love tunein for convenience but this repeating is so bad that it makes it not worth fooling with. Shouldn’t be this hard for a normal consumer - I shouldn’t have to adjust a bunch of settings when in a relatively normal and speedy WiFi environment (nor when when I’m on a cellular connection). Trying to listen to impeachment live! I have to install something else today.
I think I am right. Cancel Tunein, send a message to them and the people who give them money
Terrible and practically useless
by Mndylbrck on 2019/11/19 11:00
If you like commercials or have money to pay to remove ads from every app you use, this app is almost useable (if I felt like paying for it, it would still only get two stars from me). You get all the commercials from whatever show you’re listening to, plus as many ads from the app; which amounts to about 35/65% programming vs. ads. Extremely unstable, especially if you’ve paused it - might as well just close the app and reopen it if you did, because it will basically not work until you do - rendering the pause feature useless. The app struggles to stay connected and fails to reconnect frequently when it loses its connection. The ads are intentionally significantly louder than the programming - obviously on purpose - making it something that wakes you up if you doze off or like falling asleep listening. The constant adjusting of the volume alone makes me tend to turn the app off. Overall: commercial overload with intentional annoyances to make you pay. It’s not a functional enough app to pay for as is, coupled with the intentionality of the annoyances earns this app 1 star from me.
Good app
by Superquinho on 2019/04/03 13:58
I wrote a really bad review before (read it below), and to be fair, I’m back to update. They seem to improve this App. - The random Ads are gone, so no more paid ads during radio programs. - 30 seconds reward/forward function is back The loosing of the track once you receive a phone call, or a video/audio starts playing on another app, still an issue. So if you’d like to reward 30 seconds of missed radio stream, you’re with no luck! Well, hopefully they’ll hire back whoever developer was able to add that feature back in the days! DO NO PAY FOR THIS!!!! Use the free version and save some frustration at least. I’ve been using TuneIn for at least 4 years.... and every “upgrade” this app is getting worse! I listen to a Brazilian radio station, and when they are talking the app thinks its a commercial so a Lowe’s, Home Depot and another ad from TuneIn kicks in and I miss the interview or whatever is happening! And it’s always 2 or 3 ads only.... I don’t remember because all I do it’s curse on the 5th generation of the developers :/ The latest version they got rid of the 30seconds rewind/forward! C’mon developers..... really?!?!?! And the feature I miss the most is that if another audio/video comes up, like a phone call/FaceTime you lose the streaming, having to go back to the app and press play. Back in the days, this wasn’t necessary. Over all, it works, but on the pace this is going, in a near future, you’ll only be able to listen to their paid Ads :/
702 talk radio gets flooded with ads
by Serval1948 on 2019/05/08 08:25
How can I enjoy listening to 702 today, this is Election Day in South Africa and you are spoiling my listening with numerous advertising. (Cutting into talks, news etc). You assured me recently that ads from your side only come on at the beginning-“never during the talks otherwise people will be disillusioned just like me”, you lied! You told me ads during are done by the radio stations. These are all Americans ads 702 talk radio would use to interrupt their news? Come on, You could do better, don’t lie! What use do I have to tell you all this quite a few times. -nothing gets done on your side - you need to make changes in order for your listeners to stay with you. Can you put me in touch with your customer service before I leave your radio service with a bitter taste in my mouth. Thank you, Beate Hammonds Boerne, Texas, USA
Audiobooks gone!! 😞
by DomE080808008080808 on 2018/01/17 16:32
Many users might not be big Audiobook listeners but I am, and considering the high monthly prices for every other audiobook app out there (like Audible or Audiobooks), TuneIn was the best option! I remember when I started using this app, there were a few users and it clearly needed some app work, but I was positively surprised to find the vast collection of audiobooks in the app (with the premium subscription). TuneIn didn’t require you to pay for every new audiobook you listen to but had free amount of audiobooks for the monthly subscription price, apart from all the other radio, news stations and podcasts available. Since I only listen to Audiobooks and Podcasts, there is really no reason for me to keep paying for this app. This is a hue disappointment! I think that if TuneIn would have advertised their audiobook potential they would’ve received a vast amount of new users and a lot would have preferred it over the established Audible/Audiobooks app. If you decide to bring the audiobook section back let me know! I’ll be happy to pay for the subscription!
Indispensable for this traveler
by C of H on 2019/01/28 18:34
Update: I’m finding it does weird stuff like suddenly repeat the last several seconds or jump forward, especially bad if I have to pause a live stream, but even when I’m current. This has cause me to miss key moments I couldn’t retrieve. I demoted this by a star, hoping the developers pay attention to this annoyance. I’ll keep it at 4 stars for now, but if it gets worse I’ll be back for a further demotion. If it gets better, I’ll be back to elevate it. Original: I use this app several times a week and always on long (5+ hour) trips. Except when I have cell access trouble, I've never had a problem with this. It may even have saved my life a couple of time when I got sleepy and couldn't pull off the road. Podcasts to the rescue! The only (minor) issue I have is that it can take an annoyingly long time to buffer. This doesn't happen often and it may be more a function of wifi or Internet access. Though it happens on my strong home wifi. Can't complain, though. I use this to access radio a send other broadcasts from all over the world. I especially like to get onto live NPR when I'm traveling or missed my local show. Bottom line: Can't go wrong with a free app like this!
CBS yanked all their stations away from Tunein
by 4th Doctor fan on 2018/08/21 20:20
*To those reviews about subscription or trial period.. you DON'T need to sign up for the Premium service, nor do you need to sign up for Trial period (which does roll into a Premium paid service if you don't cancel, so just DON'T sign up for Trial period, you can just skip past anything regarding signing up). You can listen for FREE, without having to signup for anything. Too bad that CBS pulled all their CBS Sports and CBS Local News stations off from Tunein (but that is not Tunein's fault). And other censorship concerns would only apply if this were a government run service, which it is not. Those commentators have the right to free speech (with their own broadcast antenna, their own newspaper, their own website, etc) for their views, but other companies such as this can not be compelled to distribute such speech if they choose not to carry it. ---orig--- **Everyone needs to complain directly to CBS Radio (and their Entercom owner)... So evidently CBS Radio (and Entercom, who merged with them) is who forced all of their stations off of Tunein as of July/August, requiring you to use their own radio app instead (which is highly inferior to Tunein). Also, that CBS/Entercom app is not supported by Roku and other services (the way Tunein app was used by Roku). First CBS forces you onto their own subscription service for streaming TV, now they do the same thing for radio. Sad !!
A very fine internet tuner - though buffering is question
by Illuminer on 2017/11/18 18:05
So far, this is my favorite radio internet tuner. It covers so many fine stations, and allows you to buffer or store a station's past minutes if you put it on hold. It has tendency to go into a buffer mode erratically and repeats several previous seconds every so often. Actually, a bit too often for comfort. Otherwise, it works flawlessly. As it does store buffered sections, I wish there was a way to know when I'm listening to buffered sections and how many minutes it has buffered, or is in its "live" radio mode , as well being able to optionally go back and rehear previous sections of the broadcast. An update button to shift to live or shift to the buffered sections would be nice. One other needed fix is that quite often, the banner naming the program doesn't match. "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me" is listed as "Car Talk"
Frustrating no one to ever talk to. No human voice customer service.
by Point of view 5 on 2019/07/10 07:17
This is so annoying. You try to reach out at the time you need help but it has to be EMAIL of course you don’t get a response for hours. By that time you are off to work so you do nothing but email tag just to have a few questions answered. It takes days. FAQ area doesn’t help for anything. It just explains the things they want to talk about. So finally having a moment again to get on email that I’m waiting for and I see it was answered they ask for screenshots now (even though it is explain perfectly)stating they need to see what I am explaining which I believe it’s because the person that opened my email didn’t know how to fix it so it’s his way of passing it on for someone else to answer it. I send off screenshots attached to the reply and it’s been all day and now after midnight and nothing. Customer service is a failure if you can’t just speak to a person especially taking their money
Review
by New orchid on 2017/10/12 20:31
I'm gonna say I like this app because it's got plenty of options besides books. My other app was audible for five years but they have an egregious method of getting new books. Tune in app has all sorts of books and documentaries and music and a wide variety of interesting stuff! By egregious I mean you can't get new books on the app but rather you go to the actual site and pick the book and download the book and then back out to the app and "wait". It's just a dinosaur and I need books on demand because I'm a member of a book club. Your price is quite hefty but it's totally worth it. By the way why don't you offer "war brides"? I can't find it for book club
Love the concept, but...
by Papa Smurf 05-07 on 2018/04/08 18:23
In theory, I should love TuneIn. Pay for the premium package...get all of my favorite sports teams on audio (minus Liverpool who I at least get to see on TV a fair bit). Reality doesn’t always match with theory, however, thusly the two-star rating. Why? Often, the streams are spotty, which is to say that sometimes they don’t come in at all, break-up into a spotty mess, or like I’ve been experiencing lately with the Red Sox games, completely not connecting at all. In order to listen, I’ve had to delete the app, reload it, log back in and then re-try the audio for the game. Sometimes it works...other times it stops the feed and I have to repeat the whole process to get it to work again, and hope the same failing doesn’t re-emerge. I’m giving it another week of baseball season. If a new update doesn’t fix it, I’ll head back to paying for sports audio on parents apps. At least there I’ll get a largely uninterrupted stream.
Love it, but one problem...
by GO BREWERS!!! on 2018/09/18 22:47
I love that I can listen to Brewer games wherever I’m at big fan. The only problem I have with this app is even if I have two out of my four bars of signal it buffers for ever I have to shut down the app and restart it, which wouldn’t be a problem if I could go right back in to an old game that I’m listening to and he would pick up where it left off instead of starting all over. This is also a problem because it takes so long for the games load since they are hours long so if it shuts down when I’m two hours into a game and I can only scan 30 seconds ahead this obviously takes way too long and then I end up getting so fed up because I’m trying to work while I’m listening to this day I cannot listen to the game anymore so I have to switch my app.
Cumbersome
by TradeWorthy iTunes on 2018/03/05 12:18
I’ve been using Tunein for several years. I use it to listen to favorite radio stations from places I used to live. Tunein used to be much simpler and smoother to operate. I have an older iPhone 6, so maybe it’s the phone, but this is my first iPhone, so my comments are based on my experience with Tunein running on the same device. One problem is Tunein stops now when I access a web site. Once the site loads, if I go back to Tunein and hit play, it resumes, but it seems like that should be automatic. Tunein in used to resume on its own when it hit a glitch. If it can play, why do I have to ask it to? This problem may be the station (HFS), but the Tunein screen used to show the name of the song the station was playing, but it no longer does. Tunein just seems more sluggish and awkward than it used to, and over time, it ought to get smoother and more efficient.
Poor buffering of stream
by richardinMaine on 2019/11/21 20:06
I’ve used TuneIn for listening to news. The app have very poor buffering performance. This means the stream is constantly pausing while it buffers. I understand this can happen occasionally when cell reception is marginal, but even with a strong cellular signal buffering happens every 10 minutes or so. The buffering period can last several minutes and often when it does start playing it will play 10 seconds then repeat those same 10 seconds two or three times in a row then continue with the stream. It doesn’t matter what station I stream the buffering issue always occurs. I haven’t found a setting for setting buffer size. I would like to get premium service but the app’s performance to too poor. All other streaming services I use, such as direct streaming from radio stations or podcasts NEVER buffer.
Dishonest company. Buyer beware!
by My MT Brain on 2018/12/15 20:50
Last year TuneIn reduced their price and touted their huge audiobook selection which got me to join. Then they dropped the feature within weeks. A reputable company would have either stated that audiobooks would be going away, or offered a refund for cost of the service given such a key feature was removed. I thought, lesson learned and set up my calendar to remind me to cancel a month before my subscription ended. When I logged in last month to cancel, there was no way to cancel online. I had to contact TuneIn via their email. I contacted them and they told me to cancel online. I replied I was not able to do so, that their site informed me to contact tech support. Then they said they cancelled my service and “Rest assured your subscription will not auto renew on your next billing date”. I’m sure you see this coming, yep they charged me! So now I have to waste more time trying to get my money back from these thieves. Stay away. You have been warned.
My problem persists
by Endmysuff34ing on 2020/05/10 23:07
FIX THIS AND STOP WITH THE AUTOMATED RESPONSES. I used to think the problem where it would restart my podcast was only due to my earbuds at the time, but I have since switched phones and earbuds many times and still have had the same issue. Every time I pause a podcast for more than a minute or so; it fully restarts the podcast. This is extremely frustrating. I constantly have to re scrub through the podcast to find where I left off just because it constantly restarts it. I love this app for podcasts and I use it all the time to download podcasts, I will not however continue using this app if this problem persists. I would save more time just using another app that saves my spot in the podcast. If you could please look into this and fix it that would be great. I’ve had this issue for almost a year now. —UPDATE— It now restarts my podcast EVERY TIME I pause it. This is ridiculous. SUCH AN EASY FIX.
Unlistenable
by Meauxseph on 2020/07/20 18:09
I’ve been listening to Fox News via Tune In since mid-March. While the content is as expected, the ads for both sponsors and Tune In programming makes the experience awful. The most recent example is a Cox Communications (which is misogynistic, though that’s not Tune In’s fault) ad which plays at least three times per break, sometimes even consecutively. This has been the norm since I began using the app. Ads will repeat and replay frequently, which is especially frustrating given the content of ads like the aforementioned Cox ad. I guarantee that I will not listen to Tune In content because of this and am no longer interested in subscribing for the ad-free version. I suspect Tune In either does this intentionally to push people to sub or that they have a programming issue. I spent years working in terrestrial radio and guarantee a programming flaw like this would kill a station if left unresolved very quickly.
Great app with one mentally disturbing problem
by GentileSlayr on 2019/12/17 01:54
I listen to tune in for MSNBC live. That is all I listen to. I know the ads are skippable. But you have to stop playing the same ads over and over and over and over and over again. Especially three the AARP ad. Comcast business ad and some ad about cancer that I’m sure makes sense on TV but is just sad and kind of pointless since there is like 10 seconds of silence before the end slogan. But seriously they have been playing the same Comcast ad for 3 years! I will never use Comcast under any circumstances because of this. And also can they at least rotate hearing the same ad then go back to MSNBC they say we will be right back then u play the same ad again. It’s so frustrating I just mute it and end up missing parts of the show. Also they updated the app so when u pause and un pause they play the same Comcast commercial agggggghhhhhh!
Good but MLB games are little behind
by MissTheMarinersButNotSeattle on 2019/09/25 00:02
I’ve used TuneIN for a while now for listening to DV Radio, 710 ESPN, and KIRO 97.3 for the Seattle Mariners games. However, I recently moved away and didn’t realize the radio stations were blacked-out during games if you were out of state. So, I just signed up for premium last week so I could listen to the Mariners games. Unfortunately the live broadcast is about 2 to 3 plays behind the other sports apps. I would get notifications on my phone about scoring plays or home runs at least 2 plays early. Easy fix though, I just turned off the notifications on the other apps. I’m not going to complain too much because the premium subscription served its purpose... I got to listen to the games. I will most likely subscribe again next season.
Rip off!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by joker12483 on 2019/06/21 18:36
Be extremely careful with this app, I unfortunately downloaded this junk by mistake in April of 2018 as soon as it was downloaded I deleted it from my phone. Literally wasn’t on my phone for more than five minutes! It was apparently free for a week after that you are charged $9.99 a month without agreeing to it until you cancel the subscription that you never agreed too!!!! Deleting a app will not cancel a subscription, which absolutely makes no sense at all. Seriously how ridiculous......yeah let’s delete this but start paying for it , sounds good!!!! So I’ve been charged $150 to date and luckily noticed it on my bank statement. Immediately cancelled the subscription that I never asked for or agreed too and never got notification of !!! I have no clue if this app is good or not even though I have had a subscription for almost two years without knowing but I certainly wouldn’t recommend this app to anyone.
Does not keep track of playhead
by Kid Rock C on 2019/04/20 05:46
So, you are listening to a podcast, but are taking a break for a few minutes to do something else. Now, you switch back to the app and discover that TuneIn kicked you out of the stream, but puts a speaker symbol next to the most-recently played episode. You may rightfully think that you can simply continue where you left off by selecting that podcast again, but you would be very mistaken. TuneIn does not remember how far into the podcast you were, it simply starts from scratch. Nice ... not. Why does it kick you back to the overview screen after you had placed the app into the background for a few minutes, and why can’t it remember the playhead position? An enigma wrapped in a mystery that only the talented programmers at TuneIn will know the answers to. I personally am still using this program to listen to NPR, but wouldn’t mind finding a smarter app.
Used to be great; now streaming is erratic
by Diddyboyy on 2020/06/27 17:50
I used to love this app, six months ago I would’ve given it five stars. I am a premium subscriber, I like to listen to my local pro sport teams on this app . However, over the last six months, the quality of streaming has suffered greatly. It drops the stream all the time, both on Wi-Fi and on cellular data. It just inexplicably drops and takes a while to reconnect. It buffers over and over again. Occasionally it will not reconnect at all and I have to close the app and reopen it. I’m not sure what is happening, everything is up-to-date on my cell phone, it’s an iPhone X, running the latest iOS. I searched the app for a way to communicate directly with the company or developer. Unfortunately, they do not offer a “contact us“ option on their app. There is no way to inform them of this problem, other than leaving a bad review. Please fix, this app used to be great!
Ah TuneIn, why didn’t you raise the price?
by Kiriel62 on 2018/01/23 23:03
When it was decided that audiobooks weren’t working as intended, the first option was to dump them. Now I know soooo many people think $8 a month is reasonable for unlimited listening, I know that is crazy. There were no limitations like the library where you have to wait for the book to come back in. One book costs more to purchase than Tunein’s premium price. Now why didn’t you first TRY to raise your price. I would have paid 3x or more for access to this many books. I was one of the ones listening all-the-time. Now my choice is Playster which is so horrible so far, can’t find books, weirdness in charges, loses place etc. I can’t do it. I am going back to library. At least I still have Rachel & Bill at TuneIn.
App shuts down every time I look at another app on my iPhone 7.
by Erza10 on 2019/10/09 19:52
Ever since the update to IOS 13, this app is not working the way it used to. If I pause the stream & then start it again & then look at another app while listening to the the tune-in app, the tune in app shuts down & I have to open it up & restart it again. Also even just looking at another app while listening to something in Tune in app, it will shut down, sometimes numerous times within an hour. I don’t understand why this is happening since these problems were not there in the past. I hope this can be fixed. Don’t know if it’s a compatibility problem. I have rebooted my phone & even deleted app & uploaded again & I still have the same problem noted above.
Stops and restarts all the time!!
by Troy1428 on 2017/11/14 15:38
I have been a faithful user of this app - using it almost every day since I first downloaded it 4 yrs ago, and in certain ways I love it. I want to be able to give it 5 stars because I really like a lot of its feature, such as the ability to pause, rewind and fast forward, which aren't always options on other radio apps. But I had to give it 2 because it constantly stops in the middle of something I'm listening to and resets. Meaning, in the morning I like to let it play talk radio while I'm showering and then when I get out, I rewind it so I can hear what was playing and fast forward through commercials (very nice!), but maybe halfway through a 30 min section it glitches and resets to live radio so I miss everything in between. This happens at least 3 out of five times. It drives me crazy!!!
Easier than station sites & apps
by Outdoor Janitor on 2019/03/25 14:03
Often works better than a station’s own app or web site player —began to use this app when it was difficult to get my desktop to start the listen live feature of a local news talk station. It's got a bit of a delay, but that's cool if you are vein, and you want to hear what you said on a call-in show – but aside from that, having a profile with my favorite Christian, & news stations – & being able to pick a syndicated show, and listen even if it's from across the nation, is cool. Occasionally some glitch causes 5 to 30 seconds of a show to repeat, but I don't believe anything is ever dropped…
I use it constantly
by Kdhunter on 2020/08/27 23:49
Some platform of this type is going to be the future of radio. I use this all the time to listen to radio stations across the country, which is a big deal for avid jazz and classical music fan. Then there is the ability to timeshift virtually newscast from across the country since i live in EST. Glitches I've noted are mostly a function of Internet connection. At work, it's virtually flawless because we have a super fast connection. At home, there are interruptions. but I have to say even those are rare. I would like it if they created a way to remove folders once you’ve created them bc they stand in the way of getting to “favorites” which creates too many clicks before you get to the station you want.
Something’s wrong! Please fix it!
by Ljenz61 on 2020/04/21 04:19
For several weeks now, the app interrupts my listening pleasure to announce that the particular channel I’ve chosen—MSNBC—is “experiencing difficulty”. It’s only with MSNBC, and it occurs several times per day, every single day. Then the announcement interrupts whatever MSNBC show I’m enjoying for recordings of earlier shows while the glitch is supposedly being fixed. Then last week, the app started playing weird, loud music—no announcement, just the music. After several minutes—if I continue listening—the transmission switches back to MSNBC. Usually, I do not continue listening; I switch to CNN or CSPAN or almost anything else besides the loud, weird music. IDK what’s going on, but the app would get five stars for content from me, if these annoying interruptions didn’t occur several times a day!
Buffering endlessly
by Erfox on 2019/12/30 15:53
I used to love this app. I recommended it to everyone. About a year ago, it started having a glitch where it would repeat the same 10-30 seconds of sound over and over and over. I tried to find solutions and the only comment was “it’s buffering” I tried to turn phone off. I tried deleting and reinstalling the app (as if that were actually ever possible on an iPhone). The only change I noticed was that the monthly premium went up on the reinstall. Eventually I gave up. I deleted the app and my premium service. Occasionally I’ll come back and listen to non-premium channels, but you can’t get that everywhere.
Generally I like it but one huge headache
by COC Champ on 2020/03/27 14:07
I really like the app. It allows me to listen to stations and music I otherwise wouldn’t hear living where I am. It also is a great way to listen to several podcasts. But my headache comes from the fact that because I mainly listen to the podcasts to and from work, I don’t listen to them all in one sitting. So I try to continue with the same podcast I was listening to the truck ride before so to speak. It would be nice if the podcast would remember where I was in the podcast from the last time rather than starting over at the first. Then I have to let it download to the spot I was and most of the time I don’t look at the timer to see where I am leaving off when I get out of the truck. Please get that fixed. It is very frustrating.
No free versions anymore?!
by ah20_damsel_fly on 2018/09/24 13:03
I’ve had this app for years and always had the free version so I could listen to my morning radio program clearly since where I lived it was spotty on the radio. When I got my new phone I went to download the app, and got this updated version that is now “pay only” thru a 7 day or more trial. Even tho there’s an advertisement for a free version, you only have the option to chose a free trial and paid subscription when you hit the “start listening” button. Come on.... even Pandora has an easy free version with ads I listen to. I just wanted my local radio stations to be clear. If this is what it’s become I’ll just not listen anymore and delete this crap. I’m not about to fall for a trial I can’t get out of so you can swindle my money. I’m on a fixed income and just wanted to laugh a couple hours in the morning between Z93 and Bob and Tom. 🖕🏼🙎🏻‍♀️
I agree...
by ejborg on 2021/02/06 03:02
...with the previous reviewer. If the developers think they fixed these problems they’re wrong. Furthermore, I find myself sitting here on MSNBC listening to the very advertising that I PAID to avoid. Cars, shoes, products of all kinds. All this interspersed with “news [I] may have missed from earlier today,” which I haven’t missed, of course, because TuneIn plays the same clips over and over. PLUS, I still haven’t figured out how to communicate my concerns (OK, let’s just call them what they really are...”complaints”) directly to customer “service”. Finding CS at TuneIn is harder than navigating a Halloween corn maze. I shouldn’t have to leave an angry review in order to get your attention. What I HAVE finally figured out is how to cancel my subscription. Do you really want to make cancellation easier than complaint resolution? I’ve never been closer to canceling a subscription to anything as I am right now with TuneIn.
What Are You Thinking?
by Qball_42 on 2020/12/02 04:52
In many ways, this is still a great radio app overall. Howeverin the Sports area, there have been some changes that I don't love, and I wish I knew the rationale behind them. I really miss how TuneIn let you browse a list of all available live sporting events going on at the time. This was a constant feature for many years but, recently, that feature has been removed. Now, we are compellled to choose an individual sport tab to view its live events. This leads to my largest complaint. Right now, there are options for all types of sports, but they all lead to strictly professional leagues of that particular sport. The basketball option leads to the NBA only, the football goes only to the NFL, ETC. I've been having some significant trouble finding college sporting events. This is certainly true for college basketball, but I am sure it's a problem for hockey as well. There is a college sports tab, but this only brings up live college football events. Where are the rest? i hope you'll consider what I wrote here. I'd love to see the old layout come back, but, if not, I hope that college sports carried by TuneIn can be as easy to access as they have been in previous years.
Great, could be better...
by homeranonymous on 2017/11/29 19:01
I use this app nearly every day to listen to live talk radio from several cities or stations throughout the day. My favorite feature is also the root of my only complaint: fast forward and rewind. I LOVE being able to pause playback while on the phone or at a drive-through or etc., but the buffer could be larger and more reliable... rewinding too far or too often can cause the app to fail, jumping the buffer to the end of the content erratically. My star rating is higher than my first review since some of my concerns were addressed and improved. Yay! It would be awesome to have the ability to save the buffer to listen later! How about a timer to record a program for later playback?
Commercial volume & PSA’s
by SuzieQZgladiolies on 2019/12/19 15:20
TuneIn is great in many ways, but we’re looking for alternative streaming venues. The main reason is that commercials and Public Service announcements blare through the speakers at extreme levels. We are constantly jolted by the volume changes and the need to decrease commercial sound levels is more and more irritating. Also the actual program volume levels are so low we often can’t hear the programs, but commercial breaks are 10 times louder. Keeping everything at the same volume level is what we’re looking for. Finally the exact same PSA’s are broadcast during breaks and have not changed in over ten years.
Ads are interrupting programming and are too intrusive
by Phuoc-SD on 2019/08/12 19:48
No longer as great as it used to be. I’m totally cool with ads to help developers and content owners produce great apps or great content. I would pay if the value proposition makes sense. Tune In used to work really well with ads. I noticed that the ads on Tune In are completely different from what is on the radio, which makes sense. They used to come during the natural commercial breaks in the programming and all worked well. Lately I’m finding that’s not the case. Ads are coming on the middle of someone speaking and are way too intrusive. I find I’m using Tune In less and less and opting for my favorite station’s native apps, web streaming in the browser or hustling literally tuning back into the radio. Just like people are going vintage with many other things from vinyl to clothing, I predict people will come back to the radio if this keeps up.
Keeps cutting off all the time
by keeps cutting off on 2018/12/08 13:32
I have several Radio apps on my iPodAnd don’t have trouble with the others but tune in continues to cut out every 20 to 60 minutes then goes back to the home screen I have to start it up again sometime to start and immediately cut off then sometimes it will start and stay on 420 to 60 minutes. It’s not my Wi-Fi that’s not my iPad because I don’t have this problem with other app and don’t have trouble with the others but tune in continues to cut out every 20 to 60 minutes then goes back to the home screen I have to start it up again sometimes it starts and immediately cut off then sometimes it will start and stay on 420 to 60 minutes. It’s not my Wi-Fi that’s not my iPad because I don’t have this problem with other apps
Choices and Options
by slsutl on 2020/07/09 11:45
I’ve been repeatedly solicited to subscribe to music streaming services. To me their genre offerings are boring. Every song in each genre sounds the same. It’s like working in a coffee shop and having to listen to the same sound tracks day-in and day-out. Yuk. I prefer mixed music options. As I have traveled, I have found interesting stations on local radio networks. I have favorite stations in Texas, northern Michigan, Santa Barbara, Outer Banks North Carolina and others. And it’s not just music offerings. There are many local stations with great news perspectives. With Tunein Radio, I can listen to a huge range of options anytime I want.
Don’t download you will get charged
by vez214 on 2019/09/23 01:57
I would give this app ZERO stars if I could!! I was trying to find a way to listen to my local football team broadcast while away and came across this app. It “seemed” like it was free to download but then after you download it, you get a week free and then get charged $10 automatically. Of course I had tried to uninstall, delete and cancel the subscription/app. It is made pretty much impossible until you get your receipt from being charged where you can view your subscription and have the option to cancel. I never even used the app and ended up paying $10 for the pleasure of it because it didn’t even play the game I had been looking for. It’s a useless app that is designed to scam you. And of course there is no one to contact in order to get your money back either once it’s been taken.
App crash
by wetpaint86 on 2021/07/10 17:27
I listen to sports events while working and it was awesome when I first got the app.

Thanks, but no thanks.

by Sick of Matt B on 2021/07/19 23:06
When I first got the app it really wasn’t that good. There would be constant pauses in the stream. Now it’s literally not live TV. It’s just the same thing playing over and over again at different times of the day. Primarily on CNN and also MSNBC. I’m about to unsubscribe

Why do some channels play live and some where you could pause and rewind? And please do not do commercials in the middle of a song that really ruins it for a person the song is only for five minutes long max you don’t need to put a commercial in the middle of a song

Tunein told me it would be fixed in their next release. It wasn’t. Never mind that it doesn’t work with Siri because it also won’t work when manually selecting the app. The message I get on Carplay is that it can’t connect to Tunein. All my other apps work.

For some reason things freeze when commercials come in to play. It works half the time w/ Apple CarPlay and 75% otherwise. Not sure it’s worth it to bump up to ad free if it’s going to have issues.

by RbrtR on 2021/07/13 10:49
I used to use this app daily. Somewhere along the way something has changed. No matter what station I listen to, the stream constantly “restarts”, with the station’s tag playing over again and then returning to the stream. Listening this morning, that process happens about every 20 seconds. I’m off to install the individual apps of my favorite stations.

Please keep them coming.

by Bittenbagel on 2021/07/03 15:58
All around great app, in my opinion, with the one exception that I can’t see what song/mix is playing (Deep House Radio) while on other radio apps I can. This makes me have to go to the DHR website and check the mix name. I stick with TuneIn because the stream rarely breaks/stutters. Just wish I could see what was playing and not just have the radio station name show.

by Gemontana on 2021/06/29 11:43
No mention of monthly fee in the ad.
Well I could ask for one more thing, I wish they had an app for the AppleTV so that I don’t have to AirPlay or Bluetooth it there so I could use my smartphone for other activities.

by SeanradPasta on 2021/06/22 16:10
Downloaded it, opened it, *immediately* hit by a pop up: “Sign up for a 7 day free trial and then $15/month” after that.

I think I am right. Cancel Tunein, send a message to them and the people who give them money

Sad !!

Choices and Options

App crash
