Description
The onkyo Remote Control App is an official onkyo application for iPhone/iPod touch that lets you intuitively operate onkyo network A/V receivers. Available as a free download, it is compatible with all network-capable onkyo A/V receivers released in 2009 or later. Functions Enabled by onkyo Remote Control App: (1) Internet radio operation. Stations can be selected by hand, without the need to view a TV display; (2) Control of streaming audio files from a dlna-compatible server. An iPhone/iPod touch can be used to select music directly from the server; (3) General remote-control button operations; (4) Unique volume-control operation, with accelerometer; (5) Information such as radio-station frequency displayed when listening to radio. (Note: available only on A/V receivers with a built-in radio tuner); (6) Links to the latest surround technology information and new product promotion videos. Set-up Procedure: (1) After the start-up screen has finished loading, press “Input Address”; (2) Following the menu prompts, input your country, product category, and product number; (3) Input IP address. (To get IP address, start the A/V receiver, press the “Setup” button on the A/V receiver’s remote controller, and select “Hardware Setup”, then “Network”. The IP address is then shown on the on-screen display.); (4) Select “OK”, and then “Connect” on the confirmation screen. Compatible iPhone/iPod touch Models: iPhone 3GS or later, running iOS 4.2 or later; iPod touch 3rd generation or later. App needs updating!!!

Please update this app to work with the latest Mac iOS
Update Your App
by JToseff on 2017/12/08 23:22
Update your app. Come on man!!
Difficult to setup. Abandonware.
by The real Tim Cook on 2017/05/19 15:53
Hasn't been updated in over 5 years. Soon won't work at all. 1 star garbage just like the receiver itself. Onkyo has ruined its name for me over cutting corners.
Trash
by Dead Grey Snow on 2017/01/07 12:32
EVERY time I adjust the volume and shut down my screen, the volume then proceeds to put itself as high as it can go while I'm fumbling to turn my phone back on to save my speakers and my eardrums from a blowout. Ludicrous. Also I'm on a iPhone 5s and the UI doesn't even fill the screen for crying out loud. How old is this crap?
👎🏼

Will not auto connect to my tx-nr609 no clear instructions and crashes a lot. iPhone6 version 9.2
Crap app
by bnbplanet on 2014/01/07 06:03
Worthless app. Receiver network stopped working and this app also quit working. Buy different brand instead of this...Onkyo receivers were engineered by moron people.
Mostly works
by Grant0 on 2013/12/03 01:38
Nice for quick input swap or volume control, but consistently crashes when navigating through Pandora playlists or networked storage.
Lacking
by SupremeChalupa on 2013/10/05 15:50
Has a feel much like a proof of concept app, not a final product.
Terrible and out of date
by Nederveen on 2013/09/11 01:27
This app does not work well with new units. I have a tx-nr3009 and a new tx-nr626 and it does not find either if them. Manual config finds the units but then it constantly crashes trying to do net radio control. Come on onkyo you are doing all this great stuff on your AVR's why not get a decent app developer?
Doesn't find receiver ever
by greebs on 2013/08/18 16:03
Why not fix this??
Crashes
by Advaitha on 2013/04/09 03:37
Crashes the moment you touch any function in this app.
Crashes like a pro
by parlevoo on 2013/03/01 22:37
The only thing this app excels at is crashing. Does often manage to do the basics of remote controlling the receiver. But change the input names? Crash! Use remote control function? Crash! You get the idea...
Works for basic functionality
by CamDbro on 2013/02/13 02:02
Works for changing source, volume, bass, treble. But what I really want is to be able to stream my playlist wirelessly to the receiver like the Onkyo Remote 2 app used to be able to do before it broke.
Works Great for Me
by RepianoMan on 2012/12/15 17:52
After reading the negative reviews, I my expectations were pretty low. I ordered an Onkyo TX-NR414 for the express purpose of playing my iTunes collection from a DLNA compatible network attached storage device and to stream audio from Sirius XM. The combination of the App and my receiver is awesome! The App easily found the receiver and my DLNA device and I'm in audio heaven on my home officewith everything working as advertised.
It works but that's the only reason for 3 stars
by BentsJ on 2012/10/03 16:26
This app is pretty terrible in its UI. It doesn't even scroll thru artists & the artists aren't even in alphabetical order. It's terrible & difficult to use if streaming from a Mac like I usually use this app for. It does however, unlike the other Onkyo remote2 app, work...even if I switch to a different app or put my iPhone to sleep.
TX-NR609
by GSMLLC on 2012/05/08 00:37
I uninstalled the other onkyo app and installed this one and so far it's been lock up free! The interface looks dated but it works!
DOES NOT WORK AS ADVERTISED
by Horkus McLoink on 2012/02/13 05:50
DOES NOT WORK AS ADVERTISED. All documentation says it will support the RC360 but the model isn't listed as an option in the app.
Works Flawlessly
by VJbkk on 2012/02/02 17:22
Installation and connection was a snap. I was up and running in 2 minutes after downloading remote 1 for my tx-nr509. All basic functions are now available to me on my phone. The best part is I can scroll through the countless stations available on internet radio on my iPhone sitting 15 feet away on the couch instead of having to stand close to the receiver to read the display. Awesome app.
pathetic
by snowpig123 on 2011/12/31 15:39
ios5.0.1. TX-NR809. Tried Remote 1 and Remote 2. Both sort of worked for a few minutes then started hanging. Then quit completely. Removed and reinstalled. Then neither would even show in the iphone apps menu. Finally got them to install and appear. Now neither will work at all. Avoid. Unless you just want a lot of hassle for no reward. I don't know why Onkyo/Apple bothers with junk like this.
Great for TX-NR509
by Jonnie Santos on 2011/12/04 18:05
...since I didn't see my model on setup, I thought it wasn't supported. But it had already found the receiver on my network - I pressed cancel and proceeded to use the app - nice. I think this will be great when I'm trying to sleep and my family is family is watching a movie TOO loud (ha, ha).
Cool
by 1017088 on 2011/11/22 06:11
This app is very good but on my (2gen) itouch for the remote needs to be better it do not get my hand signals when I go up down left and right
Doesn't stay connected
by Onkyo2011 on 2011/11/20 13:36
Well it recognized my receiver right and it does all the basic functions untill it disconnects. It disconnects every few minutes. It was free but I feel I should still get money back for how bad it was ;)
iPad please
by Precapice on 2011/11/04 12:24
Please update this for the iPad as well. Thank you
iOS 5 + no zone 2 = loser app
by jcchappell on 2011/11/03 01:51
First, no zone 2 support. Now it's incredibly buggy with iOS 5. Onkyo is really missing the boat with this. I'd stay away from their receivers and this app until they fix the problems!
Junk
by ttboy60 on 2011/11/02 00:01
Worked at one time. Since first of October, it will not function. Absolutely useless. Just deleted it.
Great Product but disappointing App
by •The Dude on 2011/10/31 13:08
Get your stuff together Onkyo, this App developer is not preforming up your standards. I just bought Oremote for $4.99 and won't look back. Onkyo, great app's are a requirement.
Good basic remote
by CaR80 on 2011/10/30 00:06
A good remote for basic functions. Please add advanced functions such as zone 2 control.
Decent volume controller...
by timwithair on 2011/10/28 12:29
Works to select inputs and control volume. Could be awesome, even worth money, if it had Zone 2 controls and tuner controls. I opted or the iPod dock for my Classic and wish it would control that as well.

Works as described.. I love it, you can control your receiver from anywhere in the house
Excellent and easy
by Flyup on 2011/10/28 00:57
This app immediately recognized the receiver on my home network. Now I can change inputs and settings from anywhere in my house. I haven't found zone settings yet but it may be there somewhere? So far so good! And it's free!
Problems with iOS 5
by Dav123dkdjfir on 2011/10/17 15:20
I have been using on 3GS with ios 4.3. It worked pretty good I liked it. But after I upgraded to iOS 5 it crashes loses connection and just plain does not work. If you have ios 4 it's very good. If you have iOS 5 don't bother until they fix it. Stars are for iOS 4, iOS 5 no stars
Good but needs refining
by S Camp on 2011/10/17 06:40
This is an amazing app for an amazing product. But!... It is still very limiting what the remote can do. There is no zone 2 audio support, the app's performance on iOS5 is choppy at times, when listening to pandora there is no controls other than pause & skip, and the kicker that forces me to use the remote is Power On receiver ability. Other than that it is absolutely great & free!!
Pretty poor
by Barakb on 2011/10/16 22:49
A really poor interface. Drop the $4.99 for oRemote.
Needs zone 2
by Azog27 on 2011/10/08 01:52
Droid version way better on xoom. iOS lacks zone 2 volume control. Would be nice to use phone to control speakers when on deck and not drag out tablet. Pandora interface is slightly better on iOS but not much.
Where is TXNR609?
by Glen_E on 2011/09/18 22:28
Well I originally rated this a 1 (poor) as the TXNR609 was not in the pull down list. I thought this AV receiver was WIFI. In any event, I plugged into router with Internet cable and it picked the receiver right up. I didn't have to do anything. It works.
TXNR609 Model Not Found
by Suffield on 2011/09/16 02:09
App does not auto detect. Model not found in App. Worthless. Will be returning receiver.
Doesn't work right
by neybar76 on 2011/09/14 20:15
I have two problems with this app. First, when ever I have to reconnect to my receiver particularly if it is streaming something (pandora) I get a pause in the sound. Second, after I updated my receiver I can no longer use most of the net apps in the remote. The one I really care about is pandora, and it doesn't even seem to show up in the remote anymore. Fix these things I would definitely rate it higher
Doesn't work
by Mike27341 on 2011/09/14 04:48
Cuts out my connection every time I use it, have to unplug & reset connection ... What a waste!
Noooo!
by User 117 on 2011/09/10 21:44
I cant use unless you add txnr609!!!please add
Fine for what it does
by Fur Cough on 2011/09/08 02:02
This connected straight away to my tx-8050 without any ip address gagging. But it doesn't do that much aside from letting you select source & tdisplay Internet radio artist artwork. Volume control is rubbish and using pandora it doesn't allow you to 'like' songs. But for free, can't go wrong.
Where is my model?
by Marcharmon2 on 2011/09/06 23:13
My tx-8050 receiver had a sticker on it promoting this app, yet neither the app nor the app documentation includes it as supported.
Awesome APP

Works, but could be better
by Cxxddudjdhdjduxjuagahx on 2011/08/28 03:36
It works most of the times, but I was expecting more passion for developing the app.
Glitchy
by n8gray on 2011/08/27 22:27
The app recognizes my 2011 TX-NR809 with no problem, but acts strangely. If I select DLNA it takes me to Pandora. When browsing your DLNA server you're forced to navigate one short page of artists/albums at a time. Hope your library is really small! In short, this is more of a marketing checkbox than an app you'll actually use.
Works... Somewhat
by MartiniATL on 2011/08/23 01:29
After manually entering my 609's ip address it's working somewhat. It can do basic controls which us fine. Can't seem to get bass and treble controls to work and it doesnt allow me to control zone 2. The latter is a major disappointment as this is exactly why I bought the receiver in the first place. I'm using the 2'nd zone for my patio and the iPhone app wpuld be great here as the IR remote won't work on the patio.
Works just fine
by The Battle Kat on 2011/08/14 03:22
App works just fine. UI could really use some refining and more feature control. I thought it was pretty cool though. I have the Onkyo TX NR609 and it auto detected it right away.

by Ashok Bolla on 2011/08/11 13:24
works great, but I would request an update to control the Zone 2 and the radio tuning.
Works well
by Grapeophile on 2011/07/30 22:32
Very nice. I appreciate the ability to use the virtual keyboard on my touch to enter my login credentials for Pandora. I installed the app and it found my ht- rc360 without any problems.
Stopped working - won't connect to TX-NR609
by CyVVH on 2011/07/30 19:58
It was working fine. But now won't connect. I get a "cannot connect to device" error. Manual setup is not possible as TX-NR609 model is not listed. Onkyo support says the 2011 models including TX-NR609 do not require manual setup and will be automatically detected.
Ok, need updates to be great
by U2godu2 on 2011/07/25 00:54
Works but for future updates, need the following: 1) Zone 2 Volume Control 2) Disabled time out feature when iphone sleeps, always disconnects 3) Removal of minor bugs & bettet UI 4) Receiver power on ability (currently only power off)
Just follow the instructions.
by Haucemauce on 2011/07/21 04:21
Jeepers there are some angry people out there. This app works great. If your unit does not appear automatically then enter the IP addy manually. If you still have connectivity issues then it's surely a network problem. APP is A-OK. Looking forward to more controls in future updates!

Awesome App - Make an iPad version
by John TX2 on 2011/06/16 03:20
Just got a TX-8050 receiver and downloaded this app. Set up was super easy and now I can fully control the receiver from anywhere in the house or back yard. I was looking to spend much more for a Harmony remote the wouldn't have had nearly the functionality. Fully compatible with all the internet radio functionality (I use Slacker). It's just amazing. Yes, it could be improved and a true iPad version would be great, but I think this may be one of my most used and time saving apps.
app doesn't support model listed
by Bootstrapbill on 2011/06/15 20:40
I just setup my new HT-NC360 but when selecting models on the app setup the only thing close is the NC270? Plus the app itself says that it supports iPhone, iTouch with iOs4 but when you look at the app support list it says iPhone 3GS or later only with iOs4. Not a big deal but I have an old 3G that I use as an iPod. So far I can't get the HT-RC360 to show so this app doesn't work for me. I hope it's updated and works on the next revision - i like the idea.
Does not work for my tx-NR509
by didymush on 2011/06/13 03:33
Perhaps the worst set up I have come across. Instructions for set up are confusing - it kept asking me to input a model and my model is not on the list - in the web instructions it says that the app would automatically recognize the remote if the iPhone and the receiver were on the same network and of course the iphone is not on the network . After a frustrating 45 minutes I have given up on it.
Not bad
by Mameyboo on 2011/05/28 19:09

Awesome remote, adding zone 2/3 control would make it 5 star
by Seahawksprfn99 on 2011/04/28 12:59
Whatever doofus wrote disappointed cuz it won't control his satellite box or his tv volume is a technotard and doesn't deserve a network receiver or iPhone. Its an onkyo network app, not an all model ir remote. A lot like controlling your Appletv via iPhone, I am super stoked on it. Basic control, but very nice to have. If it would control zones 2/3, it would be the best app ever. Now if Directv would make an app like this, i'd be in heaven
No zone 2 control

Works, needs polish and debug
by mymusictogo on 2011/04/18 00:50
Added inputs cannot be deleted or erased. Had to reinstall to get rid of it. Please fix this, otherwise does work in controlling my A/V receiver.
Disappointed
by Byerrama on 2011/04/15 13:01
One of the most underwhelming remotes. I hooked up my 609 and first I was confused whether it will find it as the model number didn't show up in the setup screen. It automatically detected the receiver but it is not intuitive. Cannot change channels if you are watching satellite doesn't change volume on TV ,. I can keep on going but in short disappointed.
Models listed but not an option to choose
by DOCTORD2436 on 2011/04/11 02:15
This app says that it supports all these models, but they are not available to choose in the app? I have the new TX-NR609. Its listed as being supported but its not an option within the app, Am I doing something wrong or is this just the way it is?

Frustrating v1.0
by A97:) on 2011/02/16 20:13
I share the frustration of many others that reviewed this app It is far from being complete and it does not work as in the screen shots above I have the TR NX 1007 and I have been waiting for this app since I got my new iPod. Finally it came out and I installed it promptly. Since a couple of days I am struggling without success. First the app allows me to change the input for the receiver, but then when I choose the Internet radio it does not give me the list of channels. There is no way - at least I could find - that gives me the possibility to choose the channel. So I am stuck until I use the traditional control Also this control is not intuitive. It is the opposite. If you use if you will have to learn it from scratch The main screen gives 3 controls: 2 big for bass and tremble and a small slide control for the volume. As far as I am concerned bass and tremble are controls that I hardly use, while volume is something fairly more important... So I do not understand the design of this screen. The slide control for the volume is very small - a simple movement results in taking the volume to prohibitive levels. Careful with the neighbours :) . The tremble and bass controls allow just large increments (2). Which make it a bit useless. This is likely to be the explanation why this type of control was not chosen for the volume. In conclusion: This version is still incomplete - I would even say rushed It os far from what one can wish for this type of app and certainly far from what the competition provides The current version is more a frustration than anything else If you are considering installing it, don't. Wait for the next version. Or, like me, install it but do not use it until the new version is delivered
they were late with this?
by JMN57 on 2011/02/14 04:23
ok so it was suppose to ship by end of January and I thought it was suppose to be an iPad app (& not a 2x iPhone app) but really, the wait for this lame app? outside of the nice slider volume control, there is nothing interesting or particularly useful in this remote. and they wasted time hooking the accelorometer to the volume control? cute but useless.
Are you kidding? We waited for this?
by Dimitri Gikakis on 2011/02/13 22:42
Not intuitive. Lacks most features found in the other third party apps available.
Poor first attempt

It's FREE.99 that's what you get
by GR8GTP on 2011/02/13 04:21
Hardly any features can't rename the inputs. For such a good receiver it's a shame. they should have hired the guys that released some of the paid apps out there.

Terrible first try!
by dtsdig on 2011/02/12 16:30
With Onkyo being one of the very last companies to release their A/V control app, I had expected something good. I managed to get the app to connect to my 808 once and now not again. The app tells me there is a network error and that it can't connect. The app itself has very limited functionality; no zone control, no setup menu access, no input renaming, etc. I hope Onkyo can put some fast revamping into this and come up with something that compares to the other Onkyo control apps in the store. Sad first attempt.
Not ready
by mjdindc on 2011/02/12 02:53
It does basic functions and some of the integration for Internet radio is good. But app layout is poor, no way to control other zones, no way to rename inputs, sliding volume hard to control. Spend the money for one of the other apps, they are worth it.
...it works
by J Bridgeford on 2011/02/11 22:45
It works as advertised. However, the other available onkyo app is better organized with more capability. This one is anything but eloquent, but it works.

Has anyone gotten the 609 to work w/this? If so please explain step-by-step not skipping even the most simple detail please!
It does however, unlike the other Onkyo remote2 app, work...even if I switch to a different app or put my iPhone to sleep.
app doesn't support model listed
by Bootstrapbill on 2011/06/15 20:40
I just setup my new HT-NC360 but when selecting models on the app setup the only thing close is the NC270? Plus the app itself says that it supports iPhone, iTouch with iOs4 but when you look at the app support list it says iPhone 3GS or later only with iOs4. Not a big deal but I have an old 3G that I use as an iPod. So far I can't get the HT-RC360 to show so this app doesn't work for me. I hope it's updated and works on the next revision - i like the idea.
Excellent and easy
by Flyup on 2011/10/28 00:57
This app immediately recognized the receiver on my home network. Now I can change inputs and settings from anywhere in my house. I haven't found zone settings yet but it may be there somewhere? So far so good! And it's free!
Needs zone 2
by Azog27 on 2011/10/08 01:52
Droid version way better on xoom. iOS lacks zone 2 volume control. Would be nice to use phone to control speakers when on deck and not drag out tablet. Pandora interface is slightly better on iOS but not much.
Works... Somewhat
by MartiniATL on 2011/08/23 01:29
After manually entering my 609's ip address it's working somewhat.
Glitchy
by n8gray on 2011/08/27 22:27
The app recognizes my 2011 TX-NR809 with no problem, but acts strangely. If I select DLNA it takes me to Pandora. When browsing your DLNA server you're forced to navigate one short page of artists/albums at a time. Hope your library is really small! In short, this is more of a marketing checkbox than an app you'll actually use.
Works for basic functionality
by CamDbro on 2013/02/13 02:02
Works for changing source, volume, bass, treble. But what I really want is to be able to stream my playlist wirelessly to the receiver like the Onkyo Remote 2 app used to be able to do before it broke.
Decent volume controller...
by timwithair on 2011/10/28 12:29
Works to select inputs and control volume. Could be awesome, even worth money, if it had Zone 2 controls and tuner controls. I opted or the iPod dock for my Classic and wish it would control that as well.
It works.
Works just fine
by The Battle Kat on 2011/08/14 03:22
App works just fine. UI could really use some refining and more feature control. I thought it was pretty cool though. I have the Onkyo TX NR609 and it auto detected it right away.
Trash
by Dead Grey Snow on 2017/01/07 12:32
EVERY time I adjust the volume and shut down my screen, the volume then proceeds to put itself as high as it can go while I'm fumbling to turn my phone back on to save my speakers and my eardrums from a blowout. Ludicrous. Also I'm on a iPhone 5s and the UI doesn't even fill the screen for crying out loud. How old is this crap?
Works well
by Grapeophile on 2011/07/30 22:32
Very nice. I appreciate the ability to use the virtual keyboard on my touch to enter my login credentials for Pandora. I installed the app and it found my ht- rc360 without any problems.
Not bad
by Mameyboo on 2011/05/28 19:09
Not really understanding where all this app hate is coming from. Does what it says... Simple and easy
Crashes like a pro
by parlevoo on 2013/03/01 22:37
The only thing this app excels at is crashing. Does often manage to do the basics of remote controlling the receiver. But change the input names? Crash! Use remote control function? Crash! You get the idea...
Works, needs polish and debug
by mymusictogo on 2011/04/18 00:50
Added inputs cannot be deleted or erased. Had to reinstall to get rid of it. Please fix this, otherwise does work in controlling my A/V receiver.
Cool
by 1017088 on 2011/11/22 06:11
This app is very good but on my (2gen) itouch for the remote needs to be better it do not get my hand signals when I go up down left and right
Doesn't stay connected
by Onkyo2011 on 2011/11/20 13:36
Well it recognized my receiver right and it does all the basic functions untill it disconnects. It disconnects every few minutes. It was free but I feel I should still get money back for how bad it was ;)
Onkyo remote
by Headkiss on 2011/10/28 08:36
Works as described.. I love it, you can control your receiver from anywhere in the house
Awesome APP
by 4dv on 2011/09/02 15:28
Simple and easy to use. It is working for me with no problem. Definitely recommended and its free.
Mostly works
by Grant0 on 2013/12/03 01:38
Nice for quick input swap or volume control, but consistently crashes when navigating through Pandora playlists or networked storage.
TX-NR609
by GSMLLC on 2012/05/08 00:37
I uninstalled the other onkyo app and installed this one and so far it's been lock up free! The interface looks dated but it works!
Works, but could be better
by Cxxddudjdhdjduxjuagahx on 2011/08/28 03:36
It works most of the times, but I was expecting more passion for developing the app.
Good basic remote
by CaR80 on 2011/10/30 00:06
A good remote for basic functions. Please add advanced functions such as zone 2 control.
iOS 5 + no zone 2 = loser app
by jcchappell on 2011/11/03 01:51
First, no zone 2 support. Now it's incredibly buggy with iOS 5. Onkyo is really missing the boat with this. I'd stay away from their receivers and this app until they fix the problems!
Ok, need updates to be great
by U2godu2 on 2011/07/25 00:54
Works but for future updates, need the following: 1) Zone 2 Volume Control 2) Disabled time out feature when iphone sleeps, always disconnects 3) Removal of minor bugs & bettet UI 4) Receiver power on ability (currently only power off)
pathetic
by snowpig123 on 2011/12/31 15:39
ios5.0.1.
Difficult to setup. Abandonware.
by The real Tim Cook on 2017/05/19 15:53
Hasn't been updated in over 5 years. Soon won't work at all. 1 star garbage just like the receiver itself. Onkyo has ruined its name for me over cutting corners.
Mr
by Ashok Bolla on 2011/08/11 13:24
works great, but I would request an update to control the Zone 2 and the radio tuning.
Lacking
by SupremeChalupa on 2013/10/05 15:50
Has a feel much like a proof of concept app, not a final product.
Great Product but disappointing App
by •The Dude on 2011/10/31 13:08
Get your stuff together Onkyo, this App developer is not preforming up your standards. I just bought Oremote for $4.99 and won't look back. Onkyo, great app's are a requirement.
Crap app
by bnbplanet on 2014/01/07 06:03
Worthless app. Receiver network stopped working and this app also quit working. Buy different brand instead of this...Onkyo receivers were engineered by moron people.
Crashes
by Advaitha on 2013/04/09 03:37
Crashes the moment you touch any function in this app.
Where is my model?
by Marcharmon2 on 2011/09/06 23:13
My tx-8050 receiver had a sticker on it promoting this app, yet neither the app nor the app documentation includes it as supported.
