Feedback
by Stevikie on 2019/06/17 13:55
One. I wish I understand the logic of adding new pages notebook sections. When I add a new note I assumed it would be put in chronological order, but it is not in his attic somewhere in between the third and the second to last page Two. It is frustrating when I attempt to mark up a note but the program has not saying it will not activate the pens game drawing.

Where are stick notes?
by tomturbo2000 on 2019/06/16 18:52
Where are sticky notes on the iPad onenote?
Pretty good but it could be better
by Sadore94 on 2019/06/16 02:40
This is actually a really good note taking app. Usually it seamlessly syncs between devices and makes note taking or note reading in the go very easy. It’s a great paperless option especially for science majors like myself, however, the app version would be so much better if you could lock pdf files so that it will not move if writing over them. Also, sometimes if other people send you their notes it just stops syncing out of no where. Other than that, this app is nearly perfect to be free.
Run business from one note

Font Colors
by Little Buddy 2019 on 2019/06/15 05:15
What I miss about OneNote while using my phone device is that it doesn’t offer font color options. Each member of my team adds to OneNote in a unique color from a laptop but from the phone, it only offers black. Adding font colors to mobile devices would enhance this app because we wouldn’t have to put our names or initials after inputting our notes...the font color would identify which team member added the note.
I hated it🤬🤬😡😣😖😫😖👿🤬🤬
by randbowdash on 2019/06/14 20:33
The eraser is horrible I can’t adjust the size and as an artist I need to be able to adjust the eraser and I should see it when my pencil touches the screen.
OneNote is...
by JD Spartan on 2019/06/14 15:26
OneNote is good, yet often misunderstood. For one can write more than ‘one’ note using it; perhaps two, three or a trillion gigabits. It’s useful and helpful, splendid and delightful!!

Watch app stuck on sign in screen
by motoed on 2019/06/14 13:48
Use One Note on iPad and desktop. Love it. Added to phone to sync with Apple Watch. On the Watch is is stuck on “Please sign into OneNote on your phone”. Which I’ve done. I’ve also removed, signed out and signed back in after installed to phone with no luck. I see a number of users reporting it on the forums and no response other than “sometimes it just works”.
There Are Some Issues
by Yumrubypie on 2019/06/14 11:01
The first issue is that everytime when I open the app, I have to wait for a very long time for my documents to pop up. My app is the latest version, my internet is good, and I have no such issue with my other similar apps such as Notability. The second issue is that sometimes when I edit the title of my documents, the “page column” on the left keeps jumbling up and down. It’s not a big issue compared to the first issue, but if this can also be fixed that’d be great!

Great program but constantly gets stuck
by TKnowledge on 2019/06/13 15:49
I love this app but it consistently gets stuck when I need it. I'm in sales and I use it for notes but there are times when I go to the app on my iPad and it wont allow me to write or even access the tab I need. This app needs to be able to function offline, then sync when connectivity is available. I now have to close and reopen the app once or twice before taking notes. It's annoying
A very good note taking app
by Dustin Lindberg on 2019/06/13 15:39
This is my favorite note taking app and I like how fast my notes sync between my devices. Microsoft did a good job, the only thing I don’t like about this app this the lack of paper options. I wish that they had a line paper option. So, people who are writing on their tablets can have a better experience. Other than that small flaw, it’s a very good app.

My No 1 App
by Dobesrcool on 2019/06/13 11:41
Using this to organize everything from personal to business. Started my paperless journey about a year ago and have found this app to be the best option. Easy to organize, great with the iPencil for handwritten notes. Make a note visually appealing by adding images and so much more. Love the layout, it feels clean and I can find things quickly. Keeping my business expense receipts, no problem, I have a business notebook with multiple sections and one of them for scanned receipts. Trying to remember what service we did to our car, hey no problem I made notes and have the receipt scanned in. The options are endless! Thank you for providing this app for free!

Syncing across devices
by johnhudak on 2019/06/12 14:11
Syncing across devices is brilliant. Works standalone and syncs when attached to WiFi. It made me switch from Evernote. Need to be able to search, sort and categorize, separate into subject notebooks - maybe it does but I don’t know how.

No filter on search big step backwards
by IslanderStu on 2019/06/11 18:39
While phrase search is a huge plus the app layout does not permit making searches specific to a notebook, section, or page. In the desktop app this is done by applying a filters.

Great App
by Picky emailer on 2019/06/10 14:16
Love this app! So useful for school and keeping things organized and synced to the computer. I am having a problem though and that is if I am not connected to WiFi when using one note my battery drains down very fast. As soon as I connect to the internet most of the time the app hardly uses my battery up at all. Can last for hours.

Amazing on iPhone, weak on Apple Watch
by Kerncakes on 2019/06/09 20:14
The main thing I use is the check boxes which won’t show up on Apple Watch. Other than that, I use this app daily and love it. So many rich features. Please bring the checkboxes to apple watch so I can keep using this instead of the reminders app.

Weird backspace behavior
by Caltexican on 2019/06/09 02:08
I generally like OneNote, but a few things about this iPhone app are a bit maddening. 1.When I backspace, the screen glitches out with every key press. It’s probably seizure-inducing 2. When I try to move the cursor to the center of a word to correct spelling, there’s no indicator to show the cursor position, so I have to guess, which is annoying and time-consuming

Calligraphy Stylus nub
by PaigeLizbit on 2019/06/07 01:01

Freezing/closing
by i_Nic on 2019/06/06 23:04
Not sure what changed... normally, the app works well with my pencil and recently the app has been freezing when using the apple pencil. Also, it will freak out after becoming unfrozen and crash and close. Sometimes it saves my data, sometimes it’s gone afterwards. Not sure if I can rely on this as I use it for work daily.

Needs document annotation feature
by printnchips on 2019/06/04 16:03
OneNote is an amazing notetaking program with one fatal flaw: the lack of any ability to annotate documents. Now, you CAN add a PDF printout to your notes, but this is a picture. You cannot highlight, select, bookmark, or use the new accessibility features (such as the immersive reader) with any PDF you add to your notes. Which, in my opinion, makes the app completely unusable for school, especially since more and more professors are moving towards providing digital content online.
Very useful, but need a read mode
by Sherif al-Qallawi on 2019/06/04 02:58
I like the app very much but I think an important feature need to be added for iPad Pro users, which is to allow to hide the pages list that is on the left, so that I can just focus on the content of the note without having the pages list in front of me all the time.

Great App...but battery issues
by Dr. No goes on 2019/06/03 12:07
I use OneNote for just about everything, on all my devices, which are MS (Surface Pro) and android phone. On my new iPad Air...it simply eats the battery. I wish someone would address this. Therefore, I use it sparingly on my iPad, preferring the native Notes instead. I don’t want to do that though. MS...please address this.

Apple Watch App Broken
by Nathan Parker on 2019/06/01 02:17
The Apple Watch version of the app is broken and not syncing with the iPhone app. It keeps asking me to sign in even though I am successfully signed into the iPhone app. I have rebooted the watch and reinstalled the app, no luck. Good luck getting support either. I’ve been bounced around all over the place with Microsoft, and no one can give me a resolution. If someone from Microsoft reads these, please reach out and let me know who handles support for these that can deliver results.
Fix to app crashing.
by Wingman6898 on 2019/05/31 20:35

Great app, but needs better Apple Pencil Support
by Leginius on 2019/05/28 05:10
Onenote is a standout app on every platform it supports. The one thing it really needs on iOS is better Apple Pencil support. It should default to draw mode the moment the pencil touches the screen, like it does on Windows 10/the Surface Pro. The app is built for handwriting, yet writing with it is so aggravating.

by Reufis on 2019/05/25 22:58
One of Microsoft’s best apps. This version is not as full-featured as the one bundled with office, but it’s still super useful. It is my go-to app for taking notes on all kind of miscellaneous ideas and things up I need to keep track of at work. I love being able to seamlessly share my notebooks from multiple accounts on multiple platforms and devices: laptop, iPad, phone. Is it better than other apps? I don’t really know. All I can say is that it does the job for me.
Life saver from Evernote, Apple Notes, Simple Note
by Shmuelik on 2018/05/15 11:08
I started out with Evernote and then a few years ago they changed policy and the program was just unusable, expensive with an invading privacy policy that I didn’t want to except. Then I switched over to Apple Notes and was very happy till the day I lost 2500 of my notes that the app just erased without any ability to retrieve them back from a TimeMachine back up that I had and with being for hours with Customer Service who couldn’t help. Then I went on to another quest for finding a new note taking app. I tried about 5-10 apps and got hung up with OneNote. OneNote in essence is an almost perfect note taking app. It is free, it is very flexible how you can group different contents, multimedia, text all in one note and regroup them like on a physical desktop without any formatting limitations. Hard to explain here. The one thing that I would like to see improved is that some files don’t create preview thumbnails like videos. Also you can get some sync errors that you have to find a way around till it syncs properly. Other than that knock on wood it’s going well. But in general the one thing I have noticed with note apps is that they start well off and then deteriorate over time. I hope this won’t happen with this Microsoft app. Thank you for putting it out there. And did I mention that it’s entirely free?
IPad/Win10S versions need lots of improvements.

Crashes all the time. Slow as a crawl when handling large notes, try undoing something! Cursor positioning is erratic. Search function is also erratic and clicking on the”next find” or “previous find” buttons often misbehaves, especially after some editing. Draw needs a lot of additional functionality: ability to erase parts of an object, ability to choose adequate erasers, ability to draw shapes without needing to use the primitive “ink to shape” facility, ability to fill an object with a color or pattern, interference between draw and text, inability to peg text to a specific place in the drawing canvas. Try for example something as simple as to draw a chessboard! Inability to create links to locations in the same note or in other notes. Missing menus and features when compared to PC or Mac versions. No recovery from data accidents, I lost notes more than once because of sync issues. Inability to store notes in the Apple iCloud. Poor integration with phone/tablet hand and pencil gestures. Inability to save drawings and text together to the same PDF. No diff feature. I could go on. And ah, an unresponsive development team, I have seen Internet traffic on some of these deficiencies dating from years ago.
High functionality
by Tickkick14 on 2018/05/11 15:24
This is a flexible app, as it works on every device I need (Microsoft and Apple) with high updating speed in real time so long as there is internet connection. I also have the ability to organize my notes sufficiently as an attorney, and I love that I can have multiple email accounts associated with different of my notebooks so I can access personal and work notes in my device but only my work or personal notes when logging in to my notes in the appropriate account online. Note search function will soon become invaluable. I do wish there was a broader, long-term sharing ability so any of the law clerks or attorneys in my office could see and edit notes without me having to share a notebook each time, but that might be solved when the office totally transitions to electric and we possibly have a singular work account. And I wish I could have the notes appear in certain folders (client folders) I’ve saved and organized in one drive so ALL the client info could be organized in one place instead of opening up two apps. But other than that, I really enjoy OneNote for typing, drawing, and all the other little functions as I discover them.
WHY ONE STAR
by sorry4ever on 2019/04/09 21:52
Why is it that several notes, which I deleted, ended up in my email? What if I share my email with another person and I don’t want it to be read by the other person? I have no secrets, but what if I did? Where is the privacy? I had used this app several times before and deleted it because I didn’t like the layout. This time I liked it on my NEW phone so I started writing notes on it. But I’m learning that it can’t be trusted. My notes should stay where I put them. Why isn’t there a trash can in the app that you can put notes and delete them for good? Why are they being emailed to my Inbox? If I am deleting them, why aren’t they gone? Please explain this somewhere, as I was not able to find anything about it anywhere, and I find this to be very annoying to say the least. Thanks? PREVIOUS REVIEW This app has had updates, so I'm sure that it's better than it was when it was first developed. And I've read around here and there, reviews from people who stated that they like it. I would love to use it myself. My problem is my phone. My iPhone 5s just does not have enough room for it. Well - you live and learn. 5 Stars for an app that I can't use. It's not their fault, it's mine. So, I give the app 5 stars anyway because I'm sure that it's a great app. Thanks for reading my review.
Awesome but needs work!!!
by THORisHERE! on 2019/04/16 05:03
So Many times have images not show up or show up extremely distorted across devices. Several of my professors prefer to post pdf files of their PowerPoint lectures instead of the PowerPoint itself. These lecture notes are extremely long sometimes 108 slides so I usually download them and use my laptop to insert the pdf files to onenote and then use my iPad to take notes. The converted PDFs sometimes show up extremely distorted on the iPad making it very difficult to annotate and take effective notes. Please fix this issue and make life easier for us college students. One more thing, when I insert a PDF file with several hundred pages and make notes next to it. When I want to print the notes out on a regular A4 paper. Onenote shrinks the pages so much that the hundred of PDF pages fit on only one single A4 paper making it completely unusable. I really really would appreciate having proper page layout options in the touch version of onenote to set strict borders to have specific page size like A4 so that both the inserted PDF pages and my notes next to them will both show up on the A4 paper and not shrink to extremely tiny size.
Awesome app
by 小陈串 on 2018/03/02 01:48
As a college student, this app has saved my life! It’s so much better than the note app that came with the iPad and unlike so many other note taking apps, this is free! It allows for so much more personalization and manipulation of your notes. For example, the apple notes app only has like 5 different colors you can choose from, and 2 of the colors are too light to be note taking colors. But with OneNote, you can customize any color! It comes in very handy because I organize the different sections of my notes by different color writings. Also, it allows you to zoom in and out of the page when writing, which is so cool because I can write really small fonts by zooming the page in and then zoom it back to regular size to have very neat and clear small writing. With other note taking apps, if you want to write very small you just have to pray to god you have surgeon steady hands that won’t make the writings ugly. The one thing I would suggest is to add a ‘pencil’ feature like the notes app because sometimes when I draw math models or graphs, I don’t want every line to be a opaque ‘pen’.
Slow and clunky, with bugs
by claustraphobix on 2018/01/16 20:22
Slow, clunky, and after a while you really start to get annoyed with this app. I used OneNote for the longest time on my computer, so I was excited when they made an app. I use OneNote for quick and simple note-taking, usually just for jotting down ideas. But for that, this app fails. It always takes several seconds to open, in which it shows you the purple landing page. Often I wonder if it's going to open at all. Switching pages takes time as well, and there's these weird bugs where the page won't load correctly and will just look weird. There's also a personal annoyance for me that you can't switch off Auto-Capitalisation. It's already off in my iOS settings, but OneNote overrides it, and that's annoying. Finally, every time you exit the app, let's say to go to another app that you were using, OneNote will close the keyboard automatically. I often switch back and forth between two apps and that is really annoying to me. I know all of the above sounds like petty things, but after using this app for a long time, I have decided to move away from it to something like the in-built iOS Notes app simply because it's faster and it doesn't have any of the annoyances of the above.
Office
by SFZack on 2019/03/01 01:43
Firstly, Is it Office 2016, Office 365, or Office? The answer is blowing in the wind my friends and they are unequal and separate. Secondly, Office Lens is NOT part of OneNote by it doesn’t have Business Card capability to convert business cards into contact card; however it is part of OneDrive where it will take picture of a business card and convert it into a contact card, and guess what, saves the results to OneNote. Now the arduous process of bringing The scanned card into Contacts takes endless trial an error process to save the generated card. I had to trick and deceive to finally save the scanned card to contacts. Never again and save yourself the heartache. If Microsoft was serious about making Office useable by IOS it would have simply added the business card functionality directly into OneNote, having not done that tells you the whole story. OneNote is the most powerful utility bar none. Outlook is the force of global communications, the Outlook Administrator granted me my request to allow editing contacts in iPhone. Now it is someone’s quest to bring Office and its lens to OneNote.
Very Glitchy, Too Risky
by MacUser165 on 2018/10/07 20:45
I’ve used OneNote for the past 3 or so years. My primary use is for taking notes and scratch paper for homework. I’ve always had issues with the app freezing, glitching, and crashing but I usually found some workaround to get it working again. I only use this app because of my school’s integration of Office365; other than that it has no further benefits. After this last update and iOS 12, the app has become unusable. The keyboard frequently (twice a minute) pops up while I’m writing. The pen can’t be reselected after the keyboard pops up until I select the eraser or another color pen which lag behind. The app freezes after it feels like I’ve written enough, which is constantly. Notebook, section, and page graphics constantly scroll and bounce when I’m trying to work with them or add more. I’ve tried restarting my device, reinstalling the app, removing and adding notebooks, and contact support multiple times with no success. These issues cost me time and effort, and when fast pace notes and homework are involved, this app becomes too much of a risk. Just pay for GoodNotes, like me, or just use the Apple stock Notes app, either is at least 100% more reliable. Best, your University student, BS Mechanical Engineering.
Excellent program and app, but...
by LJ_Blitz on 2017/10/31 05:55
I have used OneNote for a very long time on my PC, and I’m thrilled that there’s an app! However, the last update has spoiled my workflow. Every time I want to add a new section or note I have to dismiss the ribbon at the bottom of the iPad. I use a Logitech keyboard case with my iPad because I find typing onscreen cumbersome and slow. There’s a ribbon that shows onscreen at the very bottom of the window. This ribbon contains predictive text suggestions, style options, etc. I have tried closing the predictive text in settings, but it does not remove the ribbon within the OneNote app. Before this update the new page/section button was at the top of the window. It now resides on the bottom - causing two problems. The first is that it is covered up by the ribbon I mentioned above. The second problem is that new iOS feature that you can access other apps by tapping the bottom of the window. THAT thing pops up if I am off a fraction of a hair from the button, also frustrating my workflow. Please find a way to put the buttons at the top of the app again to resolve this problem. Otherwise, GREAT app!
Amazing. Especially since it’s free. But there’s one thing...
by Nyah Ewan on 2018/08/13 23:40
This app is awesome. I actually deleted by other note taking app that I spent money on to switch to OneNote. But there is one thing that I have noticed that I believe can be easily fixed. The app tends to have lots of glitches. Things that were erased are appearing again, entire notes that were deleted and back on the app once I have returned to the app after closing it, and there are even white streaks that tend to appear on the screen as a write. Another thing that happens is that when I am using the undo button, the page automatically jumps to the top of the note and I lose my place. I believe this is a simple big issue and I can’t wait for a seamless experience in the future. Please, please, please someone fix this! Sometimes it gets a little embarrassing when my friends are impressed how I manage to do everyone on the iPad, but when these glitches pop up they seemed to be turned away from the idea entirely. Thanks so much!
Mostly just suggestions about the app
by supyo619 on 2019/01/25 21:55
I have been using this app for I think a year and a half. It started out rocky because I was trying to use the app on my iPad and then try to use the same notes on my Mac and if I added anything to the notebook from my Mac it would not be able to sync. I tried contacting support but all they could say was delete everything and start over. Instead I just stopped using my Mac. So one feedback would be to figure out why you can’t go back and forth between the Mac and the iPad app. Why can I access it but not change anything. Another suggestion would be to put in a feature that locks the size (width specifically) of the screen. When using my Apple Pencil I sometimes accidentally zoom in or out because my hand touches in 2 different spots. And that can be very frustrating when you are trying to keep your notes cohesive and the same throughout. I would also like to suggest the ability to voice record and take notes at the same time.
Great but needs work
by Tha Zack on 2017/11/15 22:15
If Microsoft had a best-kept secret, it would be OneNote. Although backed by the world’s biggest software publisher and included for a decade in most versions of Microsoft’s mighty Office suite, it’s still often upstaged by other note-taking apps, such as the ever-popular Evernote. Yet OneNote has evolved into a powerful information capture, management and sharing application that can be used for a wide variety of purposes. It’s available for just about any recent computer or mobile device – and best of all, it’s free. An example of its potential can be found in the education sector, which uses OneNote tools to create shared notebooks with lessons and homework for classes, and to integrate with learning management systems. It can be also be a very useful business tool, as the following seven tips reveal. More than a note-taking app OneNote uses a simple notebook metaphor, allowing you to have any number of notebooks, tabs within each notebook and pages within each tab. But it’s not just for taking notes. OneNote has rich editing tools that let you format text, add pictures and tables to each page, attach files, draw illustrations and link to other OneNote pages. You can also add to-do lists that can be easily turned into Outlook tasks with reminders. OneNote includes a range of templates for quickly creating more complex pages, such as project tasks and meeting notes, and you can create your own templates.
Great app for School and Personal use
by Juazolo on 2017/09/25 20:09
I have used this app since college and am in Medical School now. Me and a large majority of my classmates use this for note taking in class and outside. The app lets you download/print out the various power points into the app so you can directly annotate them. Very useful for school. You can password protect various tabs, etc. very customizable, I have not even explored everything it can do yet, but for example, I wanted to record my lecture so O found that you can actually insert a little link and file of a video or voice recording right from the app itself. Very cool, don't know of anything else that does that. Syncs with OneDrive, so I suggest you get a OneDrive account (usually schools have a deal to get you like a TB of storage or something of the sort through Office 365, so ask you IT department before buying anything out of pocket-if you aren't a student Microsoft offers 5 GB free of the bat, so there you go).
Best thing I've found to organize busy law office
by Lollycat1029 on 2018/08/08 12:15
I have search wide and far to find something that would allow me to keep my law practice organized, and onenote has taken the cake thus far. My main goal is simply to keep a cohesive list of things to do, and calls that come in, organized in a manner that allows my team to all be on the same page, and for messages to not slip through the cracks. Other to do lists did not suffice, and I literally tried them all. The main reason onenote works bets is because it allows me to set everything up in a format where there are tabs for each area: to do list, calls, notes, etc, and everyone can see everything very clearly and maneuver between the easily. My only complaint is that there doesn't seem to be the ability to create a checklist where items disappear after ticking them off.
Best Note Taking App I have found
by myou51 on 2017/12/10 04:25
This is by far the best note taking app I have ever used! I used to use Evernote but once they restricted me to just 2 devices unless I pay a monthly subscription I decided to look elsewhere. I understand that developers need to make money, and I would have been willing to pay a modest fee to buy Evernote, but I just don't like renting my apps. I can't believe that OneNote is free! I hope they don't ruin it by going the subscription route. One of the things I love about OneNote is that it syncs between all of my devices. I currently use an iPad Pro, an iPhone, and a Windows laptop and the sync works very well. I also like how I can put a text box anywhere on a page and I can also add free hand drawings everywhere. The Apple pencil makes it feel like I'm actually using a paper and pencil. Highlighting my notes with the pencil and drawing is so much more natural than using a regular stylus. I liked the tabs on the top rather than on the sides. I was disappointed when they made that change, but it’s not too big of a deal. I really wish they would allow us to change the line spacing. I use my notes for public speaking and it’s much easier to see my notes if I could change the spacing between the lines. Its a great app! You can't go wrong downloading it and giving it a try!
Good evernote replacement
by Whatho on 2018/12/11 19:14
Like many, I fled Evernote for Onenote when the former’s free version became too stingy. Onenote is definitely a notch down from Evernote in terms of general smoothness and integration of complex features like OCR or tagging. But, once you get the hang of navigating ON’s many features, you’ll surely find some that will help you get through your day. I particularly like to scribble on pdfs with my Apple pencil. ON is excellent for that. On the other hand, Onenote’s help materials and internal guidance both claim that it automatically scans handwritten notes and converts them to searchable text. I have turned the function on in the appropriate place but I have no idea how to use it. None of ON’s searches includes my handwritten notes and I can’t find any way to ask the program to do the promised text recognition. That’s typical Onenote. The feature is probably there but you need to call tech support to figure out how to use it!
Ok notes app. Let’s make it better
by herroimseto on 2019/03/11 06:17
This app has replaced GoodNotes 5 and notability for me. That’s really good. I really like the feature of making more space between lines of writing. It looks like Microsoft is finally getting a very polished product, however there are still a few annoying things onenote does that causes friction in my workflow. If I were to highlight something, such as a vocal word I don’t know and want to erase the highlighter only, there is no way to delete the highlight in an easy way without deleting the words as well. Also there’s terrible tag support iOS. I want to make my tags like in the BEAR APP!! why is this so difficult to develop?? Idk, idc, but I want..no I need it. Onenote is the one stop shop for synthesizing typed notes and digitally written notes, but is still has many features such as the ones I highlighted that prevents it from being a treat to use but rather a tool I’m forced to use.
Hasn’t Figured out how to be an effective App yet
by 17benjosoccer on 2018/12/07 04:20
I seem to use oneNote quite a bit these days. However it seems to work best on the desktop – not on the app. There are small little quirks that slow me down and make it nearly impossible to be productive. For example, if you place the cursor someplace and hit return to start a new line, the app places the cursor way up at the top corner of your note. Before you know it, your inserting text way up at the top of your note. At the beginning. And heaven forbid if you leave the app to look at another app and then toggle back. For example I might want to look at what song is playing, or what my friend just texted me, or any other app. Wait a couple minutes and try to go back to OneNote and nine times out of ten you’ll get a white screen of death. Of course you have to force close down the app and restart it and go find your note again and put the cursor where used to be. Just don’t hit return to start a new line. Not Quite ready for real productivity yet.
Almost perfect, but there are some issues....
by NickWetzig on 2017/10/26 20:07
Every time I reload OneNote, it resets my pen presets. Like the thickness of the pen strokes resets every time I reopen the app. I wish it would just stay were I put it. Also, sometimes when you write a lot onto one page, it starts slowing down, especially when you try to erase something it can take a little bit for it to process what you're doing. When you're using this in school during fast paced lectures, this slow down can be an issue when it occurs. Speed improvements need to be made. Idea for a feature: being able to split the page to make more space to write. Sometimes when writing with my Apple Pencil, I want to go back and add some stuff where I missed and I end up having to use the lasso tool and lasso everything beneath where I want to add and I have to shift it all down manually(this also lags it). If there was a spacing feature it would be the perfect solution.
Look Elsewhere.
by SwordInTheLight on 2019/04/23 23:29
Super disappointed in Microsoft right now. I got a school-owned PC with Onenote already on it recently and I was looking for a new note-taking service anyways so I thought I would give this a try. It worked well for a long time, until the day when it wiped an entire section of my important notes clean off of all my devices. I couldn’t open almost all of the notes in my most important section because of syncing issues. I finally decided to delete the notes out of frustration, so I select all of them and hit the trash button. What happens next? Onenote deletes everything I HADN’T selected (the notes I could actually open) and keeps everything I HAD. And of course there’s no recently deleted section as far as I can tell, so I can’t get them back. I will keep using the service, but in all honesty, if you want good functionality, use a different service.
My Favorite Software !!!!
by Ramosjp on 2017/10/29 13:06
I normally don't have time to write reviews. But when this popped up on my phone I just had to. I use window every single day for everything that I do from my personal life to what I do in my business. I have known about one note for years but have not been able to tap its potential until I really started using it in the last six months. It has an amazing way for you to be able to store every project that you do and for you to use it across multiple platforms from your iPhone to your iPad to your desktop computer. The software is very fluid and easy-to-use everything from inserting a picture inserting a hyperlink and text all at the same time seamlessly. I highly recommend that you use this software if productivity and project management are important to you.
Needs a tweaking
by Crystalleyezedreams on 2018/05/23 11:14
I love this app, it just needs a few things fixed. 1. Ruler to create straight lines. I underline my notes and sometimes need a ruler but it’s hard to find a compatible ruler for the ipad. It would be great to see some sort of a ruler feature or something similar to other apps where you hold down the Apple Pencil for a few seconds and it creates a straight line. 2. I miss the color wheel!! 3. Having a defined “notebook” page would be great and efficient instead of the zoom messing up with my palm only to have to scroll up to resize the screen accurately. It would feel more like a real notebook. I screenshot textbook pages and write/type notes next to it and the two are such complete different sizes it’s annoying having to switch the zoom constantly to accommodate both. 4. Plz include capability to open more than one note at a time side by side. I have to use another app to open up multiple notes.
One of the greatest unknown software tools
by Britcaus on 2017/10/05 14:59
I came across OneNote by accident. It has been under the radar for years! Only one person I asked from very many knew what it was - and he was ecstatic about it. I agree it’s a fabulous tool. A cross platform tool with storage in the cloud so you can retrieve and edit from any PC or smartphone. A great way to keep all your ideas together and easily share them. I save my research notes on my PC but can view or update on laptop and iPhone. Adequate formatting & good search capability as well as edit history so you can see who changed what and when. Astonishing that it is so poorly marketed, it is great standalone or integrated with MS Office. Drop in Excel charts, Visio drawings, hyperlink, email snippets or almost anything. Only 4 stars because it lacks the full capability of Word for formatting and a little more flexibility with tables. Love it nonetheless.
Add better voice memo organization
by weirdsmystyle on 2019/05/15 17:15
Great app, I won’t use anything else to organize and take my notes. I love the web clipper extension as well. I would really like to see more page layout options on the mobile app, like changing the font color and page color. Please add more font options as well. I think customization is the biggest lacking function. Another big opportunity imo is the memo recording feature. As a musical artist I would love to see a better organization of recording memos within notes. They are hard to organize on the page, I can’t put two memos on the same line together for example and it just feels clunky due to every memo taking up a lot of real estate on the page versus simply being a file name or a tidier type of icon for example. For now I’m using a different app for saving and organizing my recording ideas.
Really needs handwriting-to-text fixed. It’s been years...
by MeetYourMakerr on 2019/01/16 02:08
I love OneNote, but I wish some features worked. One in particular that I see people have complained about for a long time. That issue would be write to text. It either doesn’t work, at all, some devices don’t even have that option, or it’ll select maybe three words out of an entire paragraph, you hit ok, and still doesn’t work. Long story short, hand writing to text doesn’t work, and it’s been a problem for years, as that’s all you see on the Internet about it. The fact that it still isn’t working after years have gone by, that shows arrogance and ignorance. Please, it would be an incredible feature to have working, if once and for all it would work/be fixed. One note would be used a lot more, have a much wider range of capabilities, and it’s simply an incredible feature if it would work. Thanks.
LEFT-HANDERS PLEASE READ (Undo Button)
by JayBirdPlaysZF on 2018/04/15 21:56
I jumped to OneNote at the beginning of my Pharmacy school career this past fall from many sources saying it was better than Notability. That, for the most part has held its end to be true, which I am so thankful for when it comes to needing a reliable source to take notes! Sometimes i know major data suckers like this can tend to be glitchy and that you guys are always working to improve this software. Speaking of which, being left-handed, it would make a world of a difference for me in class, if i could have my right hand near the top of my iPad if when i chose a “Left Handed” support option that it would put this undo button on the opposite side it is currently located on, allowing me to not miss a beat when taking notes and efficiently undo an error right quick. Thank you for the hard work you guys do!
Needs some work
by PaigeeAF on 2017/11/29 18:39
I use this app every single day. However, there needs to be some improvements. I wish you could change the default font size. When I’m typing on PowerPoints from my teachers, the default font is way bigger than the existing print so it takes extra time for me to change the font size which is hard when I’m trying to listen to the lecture and take down the notes. Also, I wish there was a button that you could quickly view slides only. On the iPad app you can’t even get rid of the sidebar so it decreases your field of view by a few inches. I wish that the pen tool was a little neater. Also sometimes my notebooks will not sync even when I’m in WiFi that is working otherwise. There are a few things more that I feel like the app needs. This is the only app I have found effective for note taking so I really hope these issues get fixed.
Great! Eventually...
by Utundu on 2019/03/19 09:50
I have been using one note for about a year now, and there are some amazing things about it and some things that drive me bonkers. Some of the in app glitches on the iPad include the page jumping when using other apps at the same time. If I am texting on my iPad and using OneNote at the same time when I click off of onenote and text, and then click back into onenote, the page “jumps” to its previously selected location. Pen colors disappear at random, but that’s nothing to important. The most difficult thing about onenote is actually getting things into onenote, the hoops you have to jump through to get some documents in is actually comical, and some you just end up giving up on and using a different app to view. Onenote is the best app I have found for grad school, but it is far from perfect. If there was a better option I would switch.
Please allow the ability to record audio while taking notes (iPad Pro)
by Drewww49 on 2018/12/10 12:11
This note taking app is my favorite. However, I don’t like fact that I can’t record and take notes at the same time. I don’t see the point of having the ability to record audio and not being able to do anything else. Please allow us to record audio on the background without the audio pop-up freezing and disabling the ability to write notes. Also, it’s the same thing when playing the audio recording, I am not able to scroll down or look at my notes while listening at the same time. The notability app got this feature right. I am also able to do this on a computer, why can’t this be done on my iPad Pro? Please fix this. I really don’t want to switch to another note taking app.
Needs better search feature
by Buffer34 on 2018/11/15 14:38
In general, the app works well and I like it for entering notes by class, day, etc., but the Search function is in vast need of improvement on all platforms. In the iOS app, I can search to see which notes text appears in, but it doesn't actually show me where in the note the text is, or if it appears multiple times, or let me tap a sort of Next button to move from result to result. MacOS app gets confused by long notes and all results point to a hyperlink that had nothing to do with my search text. I've seen that happen multiple times and it doesn't make sense. At least on web I can combine it with the browser's built-in search. The web app is actually the most useful search and sometimes I log in just so I can search more accurately.
All I need is meeting notes support and it’s a 10⭐️
by Agent619 on 2018/01/25 16:46
This app is by far the best notebook. Better than Evernote and all the rest. It also has a steeper learning curve but once it works and you figure out how you like to use onenote, it becomes amazing. I personally use it with a Wacom pen tablet on my windows laptop and access everything using onedrive on my iPhone. The mobile app doesn’t let me draw, but I do get to see my notes and handwritten titles! My writing displays in the page titles colored and all. The mobile app has basic features I need when I’m on the go. The mobile version is different from the office 2016 version that is the latest 365 subscription based onenote for power users. 2016 has more bells and whistles BUT the mobile app holds its own. The mobile app has a few tricks of its own and it syncs perfectly regardless of which version you use. So I can make something in the detailed 2016 onenote and hop on the mobile app or tablet app on pc and have a cleaner more modernized look and feel. I’m glad the onenote mobile app is available on iPhone because it helps me to make notes on the go and review everything in a nicely presented way. Thanks!
Very pleased

I’ve been using One Note for about 2 years starting on a Windows machine and later a MacBook Pro and now an iPad. With a few exceptions it has served me well but I would wish for a more efficient way to list Notebook titles because the graphic of a notebook takes up too much space and causes time wasting scrolling. I have about 90 notebooks now and the amount increases by about a dozen a month and would greatly prefer a simple listing, without the notebook graphic. A simple listing would speed things up nicely. Perhaps a setting could be added to allow this option. This may not matter to most people but when the number of notes pass the many thousand, as mine do, organization becomes a very important issue and anything that would speed things up is desirable.
Still no pencil???
by ..::Jei::.. on 2018/10/24 17:43
I get that this is a free app and for a free app it’s pretty good. However I pay for the Microsoft sub so I can mainly get OneDrive, PP, and OneNote. OneNote on my pen tablet monitor is FANTASTIC. One of the best brainstorming apps and the pencil works so well it makes up for a lack of pen style options and assistance/stabilization. The iOS app gets updated regularly but hardly ever with anything really useful like the pencil option or more pen styles/stabilization. What’s worse is that the notes I take with the pencil on pc that look fairly decent turn into chicken scratch when I open them on the iPad. I don’t really care if it’s 99.9% stable and crash free if all my writing is fugly. Please help a faithful user out. I really, really want to love OneNote on the iPad but as is I just start it, shake my head, and silently hope the next update brings meaningful updates before sighing and closing the app.
As I learn more, it has gotten easier and more valuable
by JustPlainBen on 2018/09/23 21:53
Had this app quite a while and found it hard to use and ultimately unusable. Using it keep images of documents, clippings, and my notes on family history (more than 10k names) and it is surprisingly useful. Things I tried to organize using Excel workbooks, large Word tables, genealogy websites, and a family tree app have started coming together easily in One Note. Instead of having to abandon unsuccessful old attempts to get organized, I can link and import them directly into Note books alongside text explaining what I wanted to accomplish and how to follow up. Still a novice with it but surprised at how much my perception has changed and how valuable it has become.
Good but needs some tweaks for mobile optimization
by CollegeBanker on 2019/02/07 04:47
On the whole, I love OneNote and rely very heavily on it on my PC for classes. The tabs and the ability to collapse concepts makes organizing and finding information a breeze on the computer version. The app is more of a mini version and doesn’t seem truly ready to be maximized on the app. Adding in the ability to collapse concepts and more of an ability to zoom out or adjust font size on the app would be super helpful. (Ie my notes are in size 12 font on the computer for easy reading. On the app, it appears more like 24, which can make it harder to find info quickly for the scrolling. Since the font needs to stay 12 for the computer, maybe the app could shrink the font or allow to zoom out of page.)
Best app ever for nursing students
by SuzyB1980 on 2018/11/04 19:17
I have used this app for 3 semesters now and noticed that the first gig is free then after that I noticed it slowed down and I began to have problems... well I have learned that everything good cost money .. so I couldn’t give up on this app since it had all my notes. I logged into my Microsoft account and purchased their versions of ICloud for $10 a month where I have the ability to save up to 1terabite , so I downloaded the cloud app and linked it to one note app.. so worth it. After that the app works beautifully.. no problems no glitches.. but u must pay.. I use this app with my iPad and apple pen for notes... all my PowerPoint are downloaded where I can write notes on them... sooo convenient
Diagnosis: Unstable , lethargic, syncing dementia, ataxia
by briicck on 2019/05/11 14:07
I am on the latest version of OneNote which I use mostly on my iPad, my relationships with OneNote is a love and hate type of relationship. It allows you to work beyond the limitations of paper, however, it is constantly slow and unresponsive, this is more apparent when you are trying to review tons of material for school, I feel I would be able to go through the material much faster if I had it on paper, using notability is much better: stability is much better and it is also faster, I will be reevaluating my relationship with OneNote if things does not dramatically improve. The issue that broke the metaphorical camels back is my on going battle with syncing, it is a nightmare. I am presently going days with being unable to sync, know matter how many times I push the sync button or how many hours I wait for syncing to complete , it fails to sync.
Feels natural buttttt
by onenoteuserv on 2018/12/28 19:12
As a college student, I take all my notes on my iPad because it is more practical and easier to stay organized. When I first started doing this I tried basically every other popular app out there and even paid money for a lot of them. However I keep coming back to this one. It feels more natural when I write, and I love that I can see how much I am zooming in to write so my handwriting size stays consistent. The only flaw that I have noted, which is why my other friends opt for the other apps is that there are no grid lines that show printing page restrictions. It would be nice if they could add a setting for printing preview like the ones excel has so you see as you write , whether you are within the page boundary. Otherwise, great app!
Apple Should Thank Microsoft
by TeachThought on 2018/12/28 17:46
Because One Note actually makes the iPad usable as a work and creative device. Entirely legitimizes the iPad Pro. I’ve used dozens of note-taking apps for years and now I feel silly for not having had used this to begin with. It’s not perfect, but it’s close. The app I used and loved previously stopped being supported and no longer works and that’s another lesson here: while I like to support mom and pop developers, the app world is a tough world to survive in. Invest all of your notes and ideas and maps and drawings in an app—only to have it stop working. Paper doesn’t do that. If you want to take this risk, consider doing so with a large developer who has a better chance of long-term support.
OneNote review
by Organization Buff on 2017/10/21 19:59
I like the program a lot, but there are some things They need to fix. I’ve sent them now multiple letters and requests and they just ignore me. On printing you cannot highlight a specific area to print. If on one page you had 20 pages of writing for example to print one paragraph you have to print off 20 pages! I’ll sometimes keep an ongoing journal on one page that git’s thats long. Almost any program has that feature except for OneNote. I guess Microsoft doesn’t have the financial resources to correct something so simple. And they don’t even have the time to respond to their customers request! I just don’t understand it. Our whole business uses Microsoft software and I was a big fan of it in the past. We’re switching more and more to Apple because they listen to their customers.
Started off loving this app
by Booger man 19 on 2018/12/03 10:47
One note was a lifesaver after I lost ALL my notes from another app. Since this holds everything related to my business, it needs to be super reliable! Lately, the notes with passwords attached won’t open on my phone. It freezes and then crashes. I have to access them from my laptop- which is not convenient if I’m with a client and don’t have my laptop with me (I’m a fitness trainer- my notes must be portable without lugging around a laptop). At this point, half of the program is unusable in the way I need it to be. Am searching for another solution, but in the meantime with be printing all my client notes in case it decides to crash altogether and I loose everything!
School Work
by 212324Bb on 2018/04/22 03:24
I use this for school work for almost every class. At first i wasn't sure about it since i was new to the whole iPad idea of taking notes, but after getting the pencil i started playing with it. Now i can take notes, draw, and everything else with it. It makes it easier for me to take notes when i am in my accounting classes trying to keep up with the problems since they can sometimes be really long and run for a couple pages. Now i can narrow it down to one page and keep the sections of the books separated for easy access. The paper style feature is also wonderful! Definitely helps with me not having to carry so many notebooks around campus.
Auto-capitalization feature off???
by Pillydaer on 2018/07/09 12:35
This app is great for a college student like me and allows me to take note in class on my ipad. This is all great until my computer Science class. As the app programmers may know, programming is very case sensitive and this app does not allow you to tuen off the auto capitalization feature. This is a major problem. I have gone into the settings of my ipad and turned it off for my overall device but the app refuses to make a change. After looking into several forums, I have found that this is a huge problem for many people for many reasons: people writing in a different language, people keeping track of passwords and other case sensitive material, etc. Please one note, I love your app but if this is not rectified soon I will be forced to look into other note taking app.
Crashing while note taking
by vittoria135 on 2019/04/29 01:18
For the past four days OneNote has been failing to sync. This leads to the app crashing. This was extremely inconvenient while I was note taking in my lecture class. When the small “syncing...” notification next to my notebook’s name had been there for a while, a box with a spinning circle appeared which also stated “syncing” along with a cancel button. Whether I attempted to allow the sync to run its course or if I decided to hit the cancel button the end result was the same, the app crashed. I’ve resorted to using OneNote without wifi in an attempt to decrease the number of syncing attempts, however this decreases my functionality. If I go to the internet and turn on the wifi to search something, I have to deal with the sync-crash cycle before OneNote decides to work offline. Additionally, it’s unfortunate that I can’t have my newest notes backed up because of this failure of the syncing feature.
No ink to text handwriting conversion
by Popstar Dad on 2018/02/03 12:54
I wanted to love the OneNote system. Sadly, the handwriting conversion feature which is so touted for OneNote, is not a feature of the app. This makes the app minimally useful for the hopes of taking notes on an iPad Pro with an Apple Pencil. The support recommendation is to open the handwritten notes on the desktop version, convert them there, then sync them back to the iPad. Too many steps, Microsoft developers! But, maybe they’re hoping this will encourage Surface purchases over iPad. Their business decision, for sure, but my business decision is now to simply dump all my Office programs and apps for a different working environment that will fully integrate. Plenty of other good apps that are hardware agnostic. Why not let your products stand on their own merit, rather than handicapping them in other systems in hopes of creating a crappy user experience with competing hardware? The latter is too shortsighted and obvious guys, you can do better!
Very difficult to link notes...
by vak1 on 2018/10/16 23:56
To link note, you must find other note, then copy link, then paste. It used to be that you can paste the link using title between two sets of squarely brackets. Even that was very cumbersome, but they have removed it for much more complicated system used now. On Windows desktop, you can use Control K and dialogue allowing you to search the notes pops up. Without this functionality, OneNote is not really usable if you have more then a few notes and want to link them. I hope that this functionality would be added, but until it is the only version of OneNote that is really usable to me is Windows Desktop one. At the same time, if a way to link notes is added, I would consider this a five star, best in class software. As is, software is powerful but penalizes power users on any platform but Desktop Windows.
Better than Notability
by Kugelblitz on 2018/09/16 02:34
While Notability is great given its intuitive GUI and simple layout, One Note has a superior edge given its compatibility within MS Office, its dynamic ability to grab web page articles (Web Clipper), and seamless integration into the cloud. One of my favorite aspects of it is that I don’t have to buy it twice. When you’re not a student, this is expensive, but being a student I was miffed that Notability wanted to charge me 2x, once for MacOS and once for iOS. I wrote them about it, and they confirmed that they do charge twice. MS didn’t do that. It downloads here, and downloads on my iMac. Microsoft, you rock! Thanks for making a great product, and I’m happy to look forward to learning how great this is.
NOT compatible with MS Word 🤬😡🤬😡
by TxtrMom on 2018/08/09 22:31
After reading all the rave reviews on OneNote a few years ago, I switched to it from Evernote, cumbersomely but effectively importing all my Evernote files. I enjoyed OneNote’s way of organizing my files inside the app, but imagine my surprise and consternation when I found out— during a critical crunch point in my work flow— that Microsoft managed to create a NOTES app that canNOT cut&paste nor export to its own WORD PROCESSING app!!! I had been gathering notes intended for larger Word documents, and found that all that time and effort had been wasted— I had to re-type EVERYTHING I had already composed in expectation of using those thoughts in my Word documents. Totally unacceptable. Also, I am not a fan of OneDrive— I MUCH prefer Dropbox or iCloud. These two decisions on the developers’ part make it clear to me that I am not their target audience... so I’m not their audience at all anymore.

Feedback

Font Colors
by Little Buddy 2019 on 2019/06/15 05:15
What I miss about OneNote while using my phone device is that it doesn’t offer font color options.

Love this app! So useful for school and keeping things organized and synced to the computer.

Lists are horribly broken. The window does not scroll and you can’t see what you are typing. Absolute deal killer. Would rather use an ancient version of Evernote than this garbage. FIX THE STUPID UI BUGS.

Calligraphy Stylus nub
by PaigeLizbit on 2019/06/07 01:01
I love this app, I use it all the time in college. It makes going paperless easy and convenient. However, I do think it could improve with a calligraphy option or special stylus attachment.

Apple Watch App Broken

The Apple Watch version of the app is broken and not syncing with the iPhone app. It keeps asking me to sign in even though I am successfully signed into the iPhone app. I have rebooted the watch and reinstalled the app, no luck. Good luck getting support either. I’ve been bounced around all over the place with Microsoft, and no one can give me a resolution.

IPad/Win10S versions need lots of improvements.
by Alboreira on 2018/10/06 13:28
Crashes all the time.

Still no pencil???
by ..::Jei::.. on 2018/10/24 17:43
I get that this is a free app and for a free app it’s pretty good.
