by Naluartist on 2019/08/22 05:13
When I went to school I got an iPad and I found an app called garage band I downloaded it but it cost a lot of gigabytes I had to delete so many apps just to get the garage ban I lost a lot of pictures and moments I loved just to get this app and it’s good for ringtones but it’s not good to download it takes up a lot of space
GET RID OF THE VOCAL MENU WHEN RECORDING!!!
by Poohpoohonmyshoeshoe on 2019/08/22 01:20
Yea great app n all, but I do VO work professionally. When I record a track I want to see it, and if I want to record I can just press delete. The way it’s set up, every time you record for vocals it pull up the vocal menu, then I have to select tracks select my track and delete, makes no sense for the menu to prompt every time. I cannot use this app for that reason

Easy to use music software with pleasing resaults
by AceDEGreat on 2019/08/20 19:23
In the past I’ve tried to get into music production using various production software, but all the interfaces were so cluttered and complicated. I just wanted simple and basic software, which is what I got in garageband. It’s also free so thats a plus. It is however, flawed and buggy. I would spend an hour producing a beat for it to just disappear randomly. I tried to recover it but it’s just gone. Which really bothers me
This app is making me love music more and more each day .

Need software update to work
by The roaring monster pie rat on 2019/08/19 23:46
Apple forces software updates that are meant for the newer versions of phones onto lower version phones. When you do the software updates it will slow the phone down with each update done, it has me livid that I “need a newer version” which is absolute bull. I relied on this app for my musical career and now that this app has been taken away from me I have lost my 100s of instrumentals that I have made. I can’t get these back now and I’m extremely angry.

Needs a few things
by DrOp Z on 2019/08/19 07:13
I use garage band to record a lot of demos but there a few features that the mobile version doesn’t have for whatever reason that really need to be there, for example the ability to change tempos mid song, or even allowing the drums to be free tempo instead of forcing you to play with your tempo, but overall decent enough to get very simple songs done

AMAZING MUST HAVE FOR MUSIC MAKERS
by NICK2001GOGO on 2019/08/18 23:52
I have had this app for several years, and use it pretty often in my Nickizcool20 YouTube channel that I just started. It’s a very powerful app, and you can really make a lot of cool music with it. Once you are used to the app you can make music a lot quicker. It’s really my favorite app to make music on. There’s just so much you can add to your songs, so many sounds, and you can just play around or actually put stuff together and make some good stuff! Thank you guys for an amazing app, and they also add stuff on there with regular updates! They are my favorite.

Voice Mods
by BirbPrime on 2019/08/17 21:08
This app is excellent and meets all my musical needs. To make it better (or make another app) I would add a feature that would use the voice mods to communicate with people over the phone in real time. There seems to be no good apps with actual variety in voice mods as good as this one.

GarageBand advice
by Jt1980jfktfb on 2019/08/16 19:33
GarageBand is my favorite mobile music making app, but there would be five stars on this review if they added trap as a genre. Trap is my favorite style music and it would be awesome to have trap drums and trap synths and so on. But over all the app is grate and would be better if they added trap.

New feature request
by kdndbdudjeodyenrkvufn on 2019/08/15 14:58
First of all, I love this app. I’ve used this app for years and it never ceases to amaze. From the synths and drum sequencers to the samples, this app looks better than FL studio. However, some things can be added to make this app better. This can be: •pitch bend for piano •custom time signatures •more advanced and expanded chords •more notes at a time in a track •storage management to offload and download the songs •a master channel •FX automation •if some of the Major M7 chords were fixed in the strings •more dry, grooving drum breaks This review may not get seen or might be bypassed, but these were just some feature requests, overall 5 stars across the board P.S. Ascension beat goes with everything
Great app with a request
by Yo boi Austino on 2019/08/15 14:04
So GarageBand is amazing hands down. All the new sound packs are great but I wish there was dubstep synthesizers so I don’t have to use loops. Like I’ve been hoping for a dubstep sound pack because that would be great, but other than that it’s 5 stars easy.

Amazing app but for the passed today’s it’s literally been immobile. Keeps changing my samples. Every time I plug in my usb mic it keeps turning on and off on the monitoring and disconnecting. I’ve never had this problem ever until the passed couple days. Can you guys please look into what is causing this because it’s honestly very frustrating.
THERE IS A BIG ISSUE WITH SAMPLER
by A Yuuuge Fan on 2019/08/14 13:15
When i reload my projects, sampler either 1. deletes what i had chopped but still says the name of the sample in the trim section. and 2. it also doesn’t load the sample correctly when i open the project and usually sounds like a stinky 808 and i can’t export, it just goes 808 mode, when in reality i sampled the most beautiful melody. i would love if you fixed this, i use this on the go when i want to add things to my beats, and garageband really has a nack for letting me achieve the lofi sound that i want. please fix this, i’ve thrown a lot of money into garageband alone with external aus

Love it, needs more mixing capability
by Lyrically gifted on 2019/08/13 18:58
I love the app, you get a lot for it to be free. Tons of instruments, sound fx and the other packs are free as well so that you can add even more sounds. My only gripe is the mixing capabilities could be better. There is no master track to add final effects to, also the automation only applies to track volume. If track fx could be automated and panning could automated, it would be so much better. I think these few things would greatly improve mixing. 1 more thing, there should be a quick easy way to export stems instead of individually soloing each track and exporting it. Other than that, I loveeee this app!
Amazing app compared to the rest.
by udvdoveb on 2019/08/13 17:02
This app is really good especially when you get the hang of it. But there are some features that need more work especially the sampling feature. You should be able to zoom in even more on your samples so you can get very, very specific parts. Also more hip hop sounds added too! This is the best app for making music and no competitors are seen.

Glitching
by Ace Kameil on 2019/08/12 00:46
App struggles to open up and when it finally lets you back into what project you had, glitches when you try to play or record. Try testing sounds without recording and keys will move but no sounds comes. Have to restart phone to get back into it without issues but if you leave it after getting back in, problems come back. Think it has to do with the latest iPhone update because I didn’t have these problems before updating my phone.
There’s a problem with downloading
by Lawsone56 on 2019/08/11 23:32
So recently my phone went through some weird stuff, I lost some photos and stuff. But for some reason this app won’t install. I saw that I had it downloaded before but then it was just wiped. I don’t think this is exclusive to this app but it’s the only that won’t work, every time I go to reinstall it it just gets stuck and stays at the little circle symbol. It just sits there and doesn’t download. Can somebody please tell me how to fix this

Amazing app but has a serious problem
by ClassicRocker2000 on 2019/08/10 16:12
This is one of the best apps for iPad hands down, but sometimes when I lay down notes manually, they don’t make a sound like they should which is super annoying, since I can’t hear what I’m doing. Even when I play it back it sounds like there are missing notes. Also, there’s no adjustment for guitar “drive” or “distortion” you have the option of either too much on hard rock or not enough on the other four. Please fix!

NOT SURE WHAT TO DO WITH THIS APP
by JuleeOh on 2019/08/09 18:42

I love GarageBand but..
by NyanCat😸 on 2019/08/09 16:48
Apple has made GarageBand better and better, especially since the store update. This would be a five star review, but recently I’ve been getting a bug where the app opens, flashes to the main screen, then flips to a blank grey screen. Please fix this, I don’t want to change music apps!
It was made to break after a thousand uses.
by akaEscobar on 2019/08/09 16:25
After a year of using this DAW for demo tracks, it finally froze and broke down. I tried off loading it and reinstalling it, but instead of opening, the installation started over and over again. The only solution was to delete the app for good.
Destined for greatness if it could stop standing in the way of it’s own potential..
by Altair Abdul Khabir (Kyle) on 2019/08/09 14:11
Like several other reviewers here I too find myself at the same conclusion, that although it’s a super fun mobile app to create music in and has surprised me just how advanced a mobile platform can be these days in the field of amateur and professional music. For me, to first delve into what hinders this app from being truly legendary in the world of Mobile Software, in that the biggest issue is the file saving system which was mentioned on a prior review. Although at first glance intuitive it quickly leaves something to be desired, as well as the ability to export in more formats. It would also be lovely if Apple would provide more expansion packs for their virtual instruments, which they do release them somewhat regularly and quite large drops (usually 500MB up to 1GB or so per pack) all for free which I applaud, but would be nice to get new ones on a more regular basis. Now for the potential that is seen, this app certainly can be used as a full DAW for those wanting to start a budding music career but don’t have nearly enough to buy PC or mac computer (certainly after dropping hundreds on an iPhone) then this app certainly does tremendous and noble good as it’s 100% free for all users on the iOS environment and that in and off itself is priceless in todays world of expensive software, even by mobile standards (like $99.99 for a 4K mobile movie creation app called VizzyWig, or $29.99 for a decent movie/video editor called LumaFusion), and as of recently, being an artist who since the age of 15 started out on Windows XP PC, using FruityLoops 3.0, and then in more recent times using a Windows 10 Pro PC with FL Studio 12 Producer Edition, and Logic Pro X on the MacBook Pro, but keep finding myself writing entire tracks on my iPhone 8 in Garageband, while those bigger brothers collect dust! Although there are certainly flaws and setbacks in the current iteration of this app, I see so much potential for massive growth and for Apple to define the world of Smartphone DAW software forever. I currently have and use GarageBand, FL Studio Mobile, and Auxy as my main big three mobile DAWs, sometimes by themselves, sometimes together, but GarageBand does seem to stand out as the de facto Mobile DAW that I keep finding myself using when that spur of the moment spark of inspiration hits, so if for some weird reason you have an iPhone and this isn’t already installed or preloaded to it, although it takes up a healthy portion of storage (especially if you download all the music expansion packs Apple offers for free) it’s definitely worth your time! In conclusion, this is an amazing iOS music production app that models it’s structure and environment after it’s bigger DAW brothers on full sized desktops and laptops, but although it’s ambitions and potential are seen quickly into diving into the apps features, just as quickly you may also see it stepping on it’s own feet. But I say it with tough love in my heart and I cannot wait to see where the Apple Development team takes GarageBand on it’s next feature update releases!
Worth it
by rockothemarv on 2019/08/09 10:05
As somebody who craves music, GarageBand has helped me turn those cravings into physical forms of music. I’ve also used the tools GB gave me to learn how to play piano, the drums, and boost my confidence in the production field. Also, the use of vocal effects also makes my tracks sound professional. Although, the option to use plug ins would be pretty nice instead of sticking to default sounds. Other than the small inconvenience, GarageBand can turn nothing into something and educate whoever wants to learn.
I can’t seem to work it.
by RicexBowl on 2019/08/09 09:01

Amazing app! Here’s some suggestions.
by Cyqu on 2019/08/08 00:53
I adore this app. It’s much better then any other music making app on the App Store currently, and it probably will stay that way for a long time. I’ve made hundreds of tracks on this app when I’m on the go and don’t have my computer available. As for suggestions, I’d recommend a lo-fi add on. There are many genres that can be made in GarageBand but Lofi seems like an ignored genre. Another recommendation of mine is realistic guitar sounds. The current sounds are just samples with no imperfections with the sound, and why would you use a mobile app to record guitar sounds? Instead of making it like this for the guitars automatically, it could be an option that can be selected similar to the other guitar options.
Can you add a African instruments to the app
by 123 jai on 2019/08/08 00:39

Track laying probs
by CKWT21 on 2019/08/07 01:51
Good app and spot on sounds, but I cannot figure out how to lay a track over another?! Example: I have made a great beat, but I can’t remember the beat so I should be able to play my drums then record, right? No. Either that or I cant figure it out. Please update to add that feature or make it more simple. Thanks

When I got the app is perfect but when I went to play it one day And it didn’t work so I had to redo the download !
Time is hard, And so is explaining this.
by Camila here with the cake on 2019/08/04 04:17
This unstoppable force we call “time” is used forcibly upon this app. When creating a song you either chose sounds that were created by the creators of this app or make your own. The first option is easier because it doesn’t require much stress and tears to get the timing right, but sadly this song of yours will not be considered original due to the fact that the sounds are created by the creators of this app. The second option is much more professional but it requires a mental breakdown. It’s extremely hard to get the timing right. If you have a solution to this problem, please tell us. We do not understand the whole thing yet as we are not professionals in music, we still want to create music to enjoy. Thank you
Sure, But still...
by RavenShadow10 on 2019/08/04 01:03
Ok, yes, FINE, admittedly there are not a lot of criticisms I can give this app. BECAUSE I HAVE NO IDEA HOW I AM SUPPOSED TO USE IT!!! I don’t mean to sound rude, but I can’t figure this app out and the developers just gave me a game and expected me to know how it works! I think we all need a built in tutorial at some point or another, because I can tell you this: I am not wasting my data on a Manual app that I will use for FIVE GOSH DARN SECONDS and then delete. TIME WASTER! I just want the app to teach people how it works. I will give more stars and an update when I know how to properly use the game.

When I open the app, all I see is a gray screen. No instruments. I don’t know how else to explain this. My phone is at the latest update, 12.4. Does anyone else have this problem? I’ve searched for solutions but most of them are from 2 years ago.

by danielc214 on 2019/08/02 18:33
I open my garage band app and I press any of the instruments and it looks normal but I don’t have any buttons or anything related to the instrument, only the metronome and stuff, the spot where the instrument should be is just a blank spot, not cool
I LOVE IT

The only good app for music production
by ummmhello on 2019/08/02 03:41
this is straight up the best option for anyone wanting to get into music production. each consecutive update keeps bringing more and more: effects like compression and eq, usable amp and pedal simulation, and the whole Alchemy library. if you have an iPhone and want to make music, you have no excuse not to start learning or at least start playing around with samples and loops. One of my favorite things about Logic Pro is it’s large library of proprietary VST’s, samples, and loops. This extends this app as well, making Garageband a great writing tool along with simple production software. there’s so many virtual instruments for beginners to play with, from orchestral instruments and band instruments, to a multitude of synths and electronic drums. of course there’s always room for improvement, but this is the absolute best app for anyone starting out in music production, and even a viable writing tool for songwriters and producers who aren’t beginners to demo their tracks.

Im an IPhone 8 user and I'm trying to make a ringtone for my phone. I can only make it into an Mp4 file and this app doesn’t tolerate that. Make it tolerable for Mp4 files to use.

It would be really cool if we could adjust the tuning on the virtual instruments and add a feature allowing us to get lower than the 10th fret.
The best way ever.

CUSTOM DRUM KITS
by Pennywisethedancingclown1750 on 2019/08/01 06:48
So... Me being a drumming fan, there are a lot of kits, so my partake is here should be a feature added to where you can make your own kit. Maybe it has a double kick? Maybe two snares? Just something to let creativity fly. Custom tunings on a guitar, hell Apple could even add a fee, like 4.99 a year for GB premium. Thanks for coming to my TED talk. Overall great app. ;)

Overall amazing app
by Krzyszthof on 2018/09/16 15:46
This is the best mobile app to make music on the go. Hands down. With the latest additions, its become so rich, its my go to to when developing that melody in my head while im not in front of a computer. However, its not perfect. Yesterday, I lost an entire track because of an unintended consequence of the save feature. As you know, GB will save your progress when you exit the app. Theres no difference between exiting the app and locking your scree, since all the saving logic seems to occur during the onPause() method, regardless of what’s making it pause. I guess this unintended feature would also happen when switching apps but i havent tested that one. Anyway, saving during onPause is the best thing to do, but it has the very important consequence of wiping out your history along with it. So, if you made some destructive changes that you you are not sure are going to stay, or deleted something unintentionally but selecting the track instead of the region, and realize you have to do something else in the real world, i had to get off the subway, you lock your screen and boom! History, and your ability to undo and go back, are all gone! For me who mainly uses GB on the go, this is a great deal. I’m pretty sure you guys can be selective about when you clear the history. Can you please fix?
I want to use wind instruments, but they’re not there!
by YourLittleSylveon on 2019/07/10 17:55
I’m a beginner music maker, and I’ve been playing in a school band for a lot of my life, so I grew up loving wind instruments like flute, trumpets, etc. but as of July 10, 2019, there doesn’t seem to be an option to get them. I searched for extensions to add to GarageBand so that I may use the more traditional instruments, but I couldn’t find anything. All I have is the computerized digital percussion, some strings I don’t know how to use (yet), and a piano which I’m unable to really use because on my phone screen, the accents and attacks on the instrument are very spontaneous and annoying. It’s a good app, don’t get me wrong, but no matter where I look, I can’t find any instruments I know what to do with in a composition (i.e. wind instruments). There also doesn’t seem to really be a good way of making music box music in it no matter how hard I try (I try using the Sweet Bells on the piano setting, but even after messing with the sound settings it still doesn’t feel right). The reason I point these things out is because I want to create more traditional or fantasy-based music. It would be nice to be able to create some ethereal music without struggling to find the instruments. Other than that, the app is wonderful and intuitive. I intend to keep using it, just so long as I have access to wind instruments and hopefully a music box-like instrument. Thank you for your time!
Needs to be solved
by AJ_money maker on 2019/01/21 12:30
So I have been using this app since the iPhone 5s. And I have a major complaint it is a major book for those who are using voiceover with GarageBand. It’s a book Apple needs to take care of. I am a voiceover user myself and I have been having this issue. Whenever you would like to add compression, change your EQ, add reverb, or echo, or any really cool affect like reversing the track, changing the speed so if you were trying to make those rap style high hats, or adding other great effects. Garage band will not let you, as soon as you close out of your mixer it erases all of the things you’ve done. Matter of fact it doesn’t even add DFX it’s like you never even added them. I have been dealing with this bug, since I started using this app I have never been able to successfully add any of those amazing plug-ins garage band will not even change the sound of your recording, as soon as you go and increase or decrease the amount of compression reverb or like I said any of the other affects, and you close out of the mixer and prepped play to hear your track it doesn’t add them, then you go back to your mixer and look at it and see they’re all back down to 0% Apple please please fix this issue, recordings with sound so much better when you can actually affect the sound. This bug has been going on long enough. On behalf of me and other voiceover users a like please fix this issue
Complaints about GarageBand
by ElaijahS on 2018/08/12 14:17
I love this app as it’s one of the only things I use on my Phone but as a beginner music creator, I have some complaints about various things. First off, notes snapping to the grid when you want to record certain rhythms and beats. For example, if you want to make triplets or a shuffle beat, it changes it to a straight beat, and as a beginner, I don’t know the exact placing of a triplet and while I can create a shuffle beat by editing the track, it’s super discouraging to do so because there’s no real reason to have it as a forced option. Second thing, sounds like the Violin, French Horn, and Brass Section are terribly delayed to the full attack of the sound. So if you put a note on beat 1, the full attack of the sound is an eighth of a beat later, so in order to counter that, you have to move the track over, and move notes accordingly (if it’s in the very beginning of the song). I’m also upset that this app doesn’t have sounds like a Saxophone for jazz solos and whatever else or Marching Percussion instruments (Snare, Bass Drums, and Quads/Quints) to either create a matching piece or for a stylistic piece that uses Marching Percussion instruments as well as maybe some synths. Maybe this app isn’t amazing so you upgrade to Logic Pro on a Mac and maybe all of these problems have been solved there, but for 5$, this app is great. I would expect GarageBand to fix that first issue though.
Almost perfect
by The child indoors on 2019/06/07 22:17
Ok so I’ve been using GarageBand seriously for 3 years. And I’ve enjoyed making beats on it. I truly have. I think it just needs a little bit of adjustment. One thing I request is to add in a saxophone sound. I’ve been trying to make a chill beat with a saxophone in it and I’m not gonna buy a saxophone for this one beat. Another thing is to have tuned drum kits. For example, in the FL studio you can use a hi-hat sound, but it on a piano roll, and make a cool effect where if you make a quick chromatic sequence, it has a cool ascending hi-hat sound. I have one last request. Auto-tune. Now you don’t have to, but it would be a cool little feature to have on GarageBand. Like say I were to record me singing one note, say middle C. I would like for that note to change into other notes. Like if I recorded myself singing the note C, and the word “office”, and both syllables were on beat, each syllable could be different notes, or to make it more complicated, divide the syllables by twos, threes, fours, fives, sixes and so on and so fourth. Ok that got complicated. I just wanted to get the specifics about a possible new auto-tune feature. But so far the app is great I just request those three things. Have a great day!
808s
by AppleLover61761 on 2019/01/03 18:51
Hello! Thank you for taking the time to read my request, as it is much appreciated. I have been using iOS GarageBand for about one and a half years now, and I must say that I have grown quite fond of the software, as it is exemplary in terms of simplicity and practicality. I have been making little beats and loops for some time, and while the features implemented are expansive, I wish to expand my creations by perhaps publishing music in the near future. I have a passion for music and would love to look to new opportunities. There are a few features which I wish could be added to the software. NOTE: if there are ways to achieve the following without updates, please let me know. So first, the 808 sound is quite lackluster, primarily considering modern rap/hip hop. Some examples of the 808 sound I have been trying to create can be heard in Meek Mill’s “Going Bad,” produces by Wheezy, and Trevor Daniel’s “Wild,” as well as “Mess,” produced by the members of Internet Money. I only have access to the iOS version of GarageBand, as I don’t have any Mac products. So if there is any way that I can recreate this sound, or if there are plans to implement this sound into one of the alchemy synth bases please let me know. I think this software is perfect, it’s just this particular sound that I’m after. Please let me know of any further changes or plans. Thank you for your time!
Better than fl studio mobile

I can't stop giving this app props because this is honestly the greatest music producing app so far... I'm actually in love with GarageBand the fact that there's so much to it actually makes me hype every time I get on the app. First timers will use the loops to create there songs that can tailor to there style. You can also add your own loops with the keyboard selection and synths. Millions of sounds that you can expand your arsenal with and it doesn't stop there. You can even download your own samples to expand your sound selection. Like I can record a note from my grand piano and turn it into its own song. This app will never die out as long as there is more and more sounds added to it. The only suggestion I'd add to GarageBand if I could. Would be to add more sound FX and chants. The essential to making genres of music is something that makes them memorable and the sounds that you can add will show it. I love this app and I hope it continues to grow because this potential already exceeds that of computer software. I can't wait for the community to grow more and more so that people won't have to spend 200 dollars on something when they can simply download a FREE app!!!
Essential for songwriters
by killersongz on 2018/06/14 06:46
I have been writing songs for over 20 years through a simple 4-track and using a drum machine. When I first heard about GarageBand, I thought it was a music-related computer game. I even got an iPad which already has GB downloaded on it from the factory and never even opened it for a year. Finally, I was bored one day and thought I’d take a look at it. WOW! I couldn’t believe how robust and professional it was! Here I’m tinkering with a 4-track and drum machine from the 80s all this time while I had a pro-quality music studio to write and produce sleek sounding demos just waiting for me to discover it! I’ve recorded some 400+ songs in GB that sound so good, some people actually think I recorded with an actual band! The drum sounds are impeccable along with fantastic bass, piano and string instruments. They even added brass horns! I just wish they included a saxophone with the horn selection. My favorite feature is the edit feature for each virtual instrument, especially when it comes to the drums. I’m able to move snare hits, kick hits, hi hat patterns, etc. to make them sound much more natural, like a real drummer would play. GarageBand is easy to use. You’ll be recording masterpieces in no time!
Great App, Especially Paired with others
by Brandon Aqua on 2018/09/19 09:13
new review: I think this app is awesome. Finally, you can import midi!!! Yay! That definitely expands your range of possibilities. Great sounds, lots to play around with. Great on iPad, but a little cramped on iPhone in some instances. I actually prefer cutting audio on the smaller screen of the iPhone however, over the iPad, just because on the iPhone everything’s a your fingertips. You can do it laying down, chillin out. I now record vocals in the app Spire the import them into Garageband. I’ve been looking into Audio Unit version 3 (AUv3) plugins for processing my vocals and hope to find one really soon. The app has grown so much and it inspires me to see how much is possible on Mobile. Otherwise these tools are not something i’d be able to afford. Thank-you so much Apple and best wishes to all artists!!!! old review: This app and Auxy are a power couple. I use Auxy to produce my musical tracks then record my vocals here in Garageband. Great stuff!! ❤️ I would like a recording, mixing and mastering version of this app without the instruments though. That would be awesome and no i’m not being sarcastic I just find myself to only be importing instrumentals from other sources. :)
I don't get it
by OkieWolf on 2019/02/02 00:25
GarageBand is good in some ways, not good in others, and completely ridiculous in others. It's good about keeping everything in sync, easy to create tracks, easy to mix down, and simple to use. But some things in GarageBand makes you scratch your head as to what they were thinking. One of the biggest ridiculous things I've found is dealing with segmented tracks. In song creation it's often necessary to create segmented tracks....add a part here....then another part further down the timeline within the same track. It's also beneficial to then be able to merge some of the segments into one so that you're only dealing with one item rather than several. 6his can be done easily with drum tracks (colored yellow) and touch instruments (colored green). However, recorded tracks such as vocals or plugged instruments or anything recorded (colored blue) CANNOT merge segments together. Why? I have no idea and neither does Apple support. There's no logical reason why you can't do this for recorded tracks. All tracks are waveforms. A waveform is a waveform. It doesn't matter how GarageBand categorizes it. It's still just a waveform. Drum loops are waveforms and segments can be merged. Touch instruments are waveforms and segments can be merged. Recorded tracks are waveforms but CANNOT be merged. Completely ridiculous.
Headed in the right direction

I love what Apple’s done with GarageBand and GarageBand iOS over the past few years, and I’m glad that now you can import and playback MIDI files on GarageBand iOS. HOWEVER, I’m still waiting for Apple to allow the EXPORT of MIDI files FROM GarageBand Mac & iOS. That would be a feature I could use that would round out the app as a near-“proper” DAW. That aside, I love the Alchemy presets and all the ways you can tweak them to create your own unique patches, plus the great user interface which makes it easy to use for both people new to making/recording music and longtime producers/DAW users. I’d also like to throw in though, that while I don’t generally use them myself, as well-crafted as the (post-2016) built-in and downloadable loops are, they’re pretty much only for EDM and dubstep music, maybe occasionally scratching the surface of pop-trap beats and glitch-hop. I’d personally like to see more loops that lend themselves to old-school hip hop or something. P.S. — This is all coming from someone who has used multiple DAWs (GB being a constant usually) separately and together, for many different styles/genres of music, electronic and otherwise. 🙂
Idea that would help a lot (devs please read)
by Brivn gvbriel on 2018/08/13 22:51
So I’ve been using garage band for about 4 years now and it’s become sophisticated enough to make studio quality sounds but I have one request and that is to somehow implement a way to compact or stretch audio files that have been imported or even recorded to slow down or speed up tempo of that file separately from the tempo of the song, even an option for raising or lowering pitch separately at the same time as making it faster or slower, just so I can perfectly match a sample and edit pitch without changing the tempo or so I don’t have to use third party apps and import two separate files one being faster or slower. It would help a lot and it would make sampling much more easier. Another idea I have is somehow give us the option to edit the FX because when I make music I want to be able to edit out my mistakes instead of re-recording over and over again. This would all help so much for amateur producers like myself and I hope you read and I hope you agree and I hope you make this already great app better.
NO 2/4 Time template/background
by AnonymsFan on 2017/11/02 12:21
It is absolutely amazing and astonishing that Apple provides as default time signature rhythm templates NO 2/2 or 2/4 patterns but only a 4/4 template. SERIOUSLY Apple??? Lemme guess re this UX design flaw: the designers are under 30 and listen only to 21st century white rock/pop stuff. This is where either having a UX person with some maturity can be helpful or at least a person with perhaps some actual music education - someone who not only has listened to but has studied the roots of American music much of which is based in 2/2 and 2/4 time signatures. Another way of saying this is that most of the folk songs and music every kid in America has grown up with not to mention the base of most popular music especially blues is based on a 2/2 or 2/4 time signature. Your little hot coders may have figured that mathematically a 4/4 signature can be adapted. FYI: Nope. And that’s why dearest Apple you have GOT TO RETURN TO USING PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE ARTS BACKGROUND as well as the coding chops... or just at least hire UX people over 12 years old. This is such a huge missing basic that I am using it as an example to students in the UX unit of my design and development program. FIX IN NEXT REV PLEASE!!! You have been told about this multiple times. It needs to be moved WAY up on the fix list.
Crashes and glitches
by Hdfvdhd on 2019/04/05 00:09
So I finally figured out what’s been causing the sudden crashes. When lowering the octane on an edited, usually heavily edited, loop, the loop becomes more unstable and will crash the app as the loop’s audio is more intense. What I mean by this is that when lowering the octane, the loop’s audio seems to get louder for some reason. I have no idea what causes this change in audio, but it seems to happen more often on basses, electronic bass loops to be more exact. I conducted my testing on the “Digital Dub Wobble Bass 01” and “Digital Dub Wobble Bass 02”, and I learned that when edited and the octanes are lowered, the loops will make the app crash. I hopefully will test other bass loops to determine if the crashing occurs with other loops. I hope this is more clear than my last review and hopefully it will be able to be countered and eliminated. There also seems to be a glitch with the recording feature, as it seems that when recorded, highly modified loops do not record properly. It might be that something goes wrong in recording, or maybe the loop was glitched to begin with. The outcome of the loop is significantly different to the recording. The loop itself seems to be more glitchy than its recording, proving the latter.
I love the App, but there’s room for improvement
by AngelaPaulson on 2018/04/19 03:37
As a blind musician, I want to say, this is by far the best app I’ve tried, and the most accessible. It’s very screen reader friendly, and works very well with apple’s built in screen reader, voiceover. However, there is something that I really think would make the experience better. When I customize the chords, for example, if I want a major 7th chord, when auto play is turned off, it plays the chord just fine, and it sounds exactly like a major 7th chord. When auto play is turned on, however, it only plays a major chord. It does not play the notes to make the major 7th chord. I’ve also noticed this in minor 7th chords. It will just play a regular minor chord in auto play. And it also doesn’t play 9th chords. Pretty much the custom chords have no auto plays that play the notes of the custom chord. Auto play only plays the basic major and minor chords respectively. I would really like to see an update that auto play will make the changes to custom chords. Other than that, very good, and I enjoy using it.
Some Suggestions?
by —• B •— on 2017/10/14 19:26
Hello! I’ve been a fan of GarageBand for a long time now- back before the Alchemy Synth and the orchestral instruments were added. It’s been great making music, whether it’s covers of songs or my own creations, but I do have a few things to suggest. Key changes and tempo changes. When you’re working on a song, there are times when you realize, “Dang. This needs a cool change!” Here’s what I’m thinking: When you duplicate/add parts or edit them, there’s a switch for key/tempo changes. When you turn them on, the app will ask what key you want to change it to, or the tempo screen will pop up and say, “What tempo will your song be?” or something. 😂 Ukulele. Please. People may‘ve been asking for this already, but please, please add this in! It’s a cute sounding instrument and for those of us who don’t own one but want to use one in our music, who better to ask than the GarageBand team? Otherwise, it’s a great app, and I love using it. I haven’t experienced any bugs so far, and I’m happy I haven’t! Keep doing what you’re doing, guys! ❤️ Peace out! ✌🏻
Love it! But I have a huge problem.
by Lsahjspjsohauvibojd on 2019/04/10 04:23
I love the app but I have a problem. I’m making a pretty long medley. Roughly 350 measures in total. It’s been playing back and working well. Every so often, it says “Optimizing performance…” which is pretty normal, although it takes a while. Anyway, it just happened, I waited, and somewhere in the middle I got a “storage almost full” alert. I let it finish optimizing, and then I went into settings and cleared roughly 8GB of data. I go back into GarageBand, and my audio wasn’t working. So I closed it and re-entered. It was working again, but cutting out at some parts. So I closed it again and reset my phone and tried again. After a few tries, I discovered that it now works all the way until about measure 219 or so, and then the audio cuts off. But it doesn’t cut off all together. Certain instruments go about one beat before the others. What is that all about? I would be really upset if I really just lost 100 measures of audio. Please respond to this or update or help me somehow. I’m really worried.
It is SO detailed
by Sarge23060 on 2018/08/27 12:45
So, all of the worse reviews are 100% because the users didn’t try hard enough or put in enough time on this app, because I’m not saying it easy for a beginner to use all of the complex features on this app. People who complained that they got discouraged when they couldn’t figure out the app, just keep trying, because there is honestly NOTHING YOU CAN’T DO with this amazing app. One motive for this review is that I felt bad for GarageBand getting beat down by all the bad reviews of people saying that it was bad because it was too hard or they just hadn’t figured it out yet. (no offense to those people) GarageBand is truly one of if not the best mobile music maker apps out there, you just have to put in the actual time and effort to unlock a world of musical possibilities. My only problem, and this started happening very very recently, is that now my device crashes whenever I try to open it up, but its no big deal because I’m sure that it’s just a problem with my device, and if not, it will be fixed soon. 😄😄
NEEDS SERIOUS BUG FIXES
by Hohokitten on 2018/04/29 08:00
Okay the program works great, but once you add some FX, get ready for rage quit. The program will take at least four bars to get in time and in Tune for some weird reason and it’s quite annoying when you can’t get an idea out because the program is having ridiculous issues. On top of that, there has been multiple times where the program won’t even launch, and when it does all of my data isn’t there. It seems to be a serious hassle when your data isn’t there and you got to reset your iPad and reload the program 100 times before you can even enjoy yourself. I have even downloaded this programs most recent update along with my software update and these problems are still here. As far as I am concerned you people are lucky this program is cheap and is easy to work with when the issues are not present. As of right now, I wouldn’t even give this program a star for the problems that come along with it. And when the problems are fixed, I’d give it six.
Awesome app!
by DesertEagle252 on 2017/11/08 03:27
GarageBand has become my best friend. I have been using it for about a year and a half now and have made over 100 songs on it. It is perfect for anyone who has a curiosity about making music. It is so easy to pick up and start using, and the learning curve is nice and progressive. To this day, I’m still learning new things about it! Such a little app contains so much power to create music of one’s own; it is truly second to none. The only reason it didn’t get its fourth star is because of bugs I’ve had to work around and one bad one that prompted this review. I recently had a bug pop up that would crash the app before it even opened. I couldn’t use it at all. I had to delete and reinstall the app and when I did, all of my songs were lost, even though they were saved in iCloud. There have also been other bugs that I had to work around in the past (most of which got fixed in the recent update), including reverse recordings not working and the recordings sounding way different than the loops they were recorded from. I do recommend this app to anyone wishing to start up in music, but beware of the bugs.
So Close, And Yet So Far (For Professionals, Anyway)

GarageBand is awesome, especially for a free app. However, it’s missing a couple critical components: First, it NEEDS FULL MIDI CONTROL. All buttons and parameters need to be MIDI mapable. The iPad is such a great tool for live performance (way more potential possibility than a laptop), but until Apple makes GarageBand a little more hardware-friendly, the laptop will continue to win. Second, the looper is dope but again needs to be MIDI controllable (so you could record and play loops with a MIDI foot pedal for example), have easier access to mute and solo functions per track, and the ability to optionally have audio effects tails continue after a loop or track is muted. Also, a MIDI clock visualizer so you can easily tell what beat you’re on before the first loop starts would be extremely helpful for those who don’t want the audience hearing a metronome click. More loop/pad playback options would be great too. There’s more to be done, but these are a couple key places that need improvement.
Surprisingly great

GarageBand is one of those music softwares that gets backlash because it’s “not professional” or because it’s “on a phone”. However, a quick look at all the new effects and instruments Apple has added to the newest version of the iOS GarageBand will nullify those criticisms. I have used GarageBand on my iPad and phone for three years now, and I have produced very good sounding music with it. Its pre-made synths are easy to play with and manipulate to the producer’s liking. If you are not content with your technical skills or musical connaissance, then Apple offers hundreds of loops, from beautiful synth chord progressions to distorted rock drum kits, that you can chop up and use in your songs. It is hard to see any flaw with the newest GarageBand. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is interested in dipping their toes into production. And if music-making isn’t your goal for your future career, the app is still loads of fun and a good way to unload creativity and boost your imagination. Strong 5/5 for this app!
You can take this app more serious.

Apple has really stepped up the mobile DAW scene with this update. There's NO mobile software out there that's better than GarageBand right now. I don't use much samples in my work so the added mixing features helps me customize and bring out my sounds even better now and I can finally practice touching knobs before I buy a Macbook and really start working on tracks at a more professional level. I started using GarageBand a year ago and it just gets better and better. *UPDATE* So I'm 2 years into using this app and I really learned a lot. You can make underground level tracks using the app alone it has a ton of features and if you know what your doing you can create really cool sounds. I have the alchemy synths (via iPhone 6) and they sound great so far. The electric drum kits need a new update like the keyboards did they sound a bit outdated at times with the new sounds. I think an updated 808 trap kit would be good and a few more basses other than all the dubstep ones. A couple of amps for guitar/bass would also be pretty cool! A few extra mixing effects wouldn't be a bad thing either I really learned a lot with that new feature and it's really key for beat makers to become real producers. Also if you really read these reviews apple you should add to the mastering options a bit as well. Just a few more options to help introduce beginners to the world of engineering more. Great app though keep up the great work we appreciate it!
I’m tired of this. Pls read.
by TNTfire31 on 2019/06/22 02:19
I’m getting tired of always being inspired to make awesome trap beats, and going on to garage band, just for my mood and inspiration to be broken. It’s time to realize that a lot of people and especially music producers like me, like trap! We like to listen to it and we like to make it. We use flstudio because that’s a great resource to make trap beats. But we can’t always use it. I can’t always use it. I wanna use garage band because I’ve heard that it’s the best music making app on mobile. But every time I get on the app, my mood and inspiration gets broken because there’s nothing on garage band to make a trap beat. Really the only kind of music I or anyone could make on there is classic rock, techno music, or dubstep. Now I’ve seen that you guys recently put some trap sounding stuff on the app, but they’re honestly not that good. They sound way too classic and upbeat and corny. Go on Instagram and follow flstudio, follow flgang, listen to the kind of music producers are making these days. I would love to see garage band become a great mobile music maker down the road, but we need trap stuff on there. Thanks 🙏🏻
Love it. I have a few critiques
by evilmonkeyinchrisescloset on 2017/11/24 21:46
I’ve been using GarageBand for about seven years and I love it. The biggest problem right now is that with the new iOS update GarageBand force closes immediately every time. I’ve tried turning off iCloud for it in settings like Apple suggested to no avail. Other than that some things that I would love to see (and others from what I’ve read in the reviews) include: 1. Allowing key and tempo changes in the song. When you click a section one of the options could next to “join, delete, split ex.” Could be key change and tempo change. 2. More user friendly ways to mix and master songs. It CAN be done with the current version, however it does require a plethora of steps to accomplish. Instead of controlling the EQ for each track as a whole at least let us control each section of a track. That would be incredibly helpful. 3. The map for each note being played is INCREDIBLE, I would like to see the same map for vocals in order to fix slightly off pitch vocals without the Auto-Tune sound. 4. More types of guitars and a more realistic sounding acoustic guitar. Overall I love the huge strides that the developers of this app have made over the years from the ever growing sample library for beginners to being able to legitimately write your music in the note grid. I would love to see these in a future update, as well as getting the crashing issue resolved so we can continue using our favorite music production app.
iOS 11 Bug makes GarageBand TAP OUT -R.I.P
by Asterplax on 2017/10/10 08:19
Anyone with iOS 11 will NOT be able to use this app until they fix this bullpiss. Absolutely frustrating to say the least. Such a great app, or so I thought because to have not anybody around to protect such an investment must mean it’s not only a low priority concern, it means they have almost no concern for low priority apps. Updates come just like iOS 11 and apps constantly must adjust ect. But for THE company itself to have produced the error without any follow up or even remark of it is just lame. I mean at the end of the day they have the 5$ it seems at this point, I may as well have just thrown away. What is it that that is worth between the clergy and customer if there isn’t that follow up of assurance? Of Insurance! How one day even big companies like apple will rue the day of -Just- when even as far up as they’ve gone can only mean the longer the fall back down to earth back to reality to a day when they may face people at the bottom. We are waiting. Please just fix the app <\3 (1 Star until the app is something anyone on iOS 11 may actually use again.. would give it 0 until so if I could. Other then that it’s an A-M-A-Z-I-N-G app.. or WAS.)
Great app but some suggestions
by Murf Music on 2017/08/30 20:50
The app is great, and I can use it to write songs with a wide variety of instruments. There are some thing I think could be improved. When working on songs that are longer or more complex, the song "optimizes performance" which can take quite a long time, and happens often on some songs. I also think that the drum sounds could be better, and mote cymbals and drums would be nice. It would also be good if there was a disk scratching instrument, separate from the one in FX, where you could actually have rhythms and control the volume of the turntables. I think that a better metal guitar tone would also be good to have, and notes on that guitar could go lower than they can now. And as always I would like to see more sounds in the keyboards (like a harpsichord) and all of the other instruments, as well as possibly some more instruments. Overall good app but I think these things should be added.
Awesome functionality - want more capability
by Joelfarris on 2019/04/26 20:40
This app is a great pocket version of GarageBand for Mac, and I especially love how what you create on here can interface with LogicPro X. My major complaint with this app is that I can’t adjust volume of individual tracks within the context of the track. All you can do is set the volume for the entire track. If I could fade or isolate individual portions of the track, I would have so much more capability! I use this app most often to import and cut music for show numbers, and the ability to cross fade tracks would be huge. Also, it would be super great if the time of the track could be seen as well as the measure numbers. Difficult to know how long a section is! Lastly, could we please make it so that I can share songs DIRECTLY into iTunes right on my phone or iPad instead of putting them in “File Sharing”..? This means you have to plug you phone into your computer and drop it into iTunes from there. I’d love for the entire capability to be onboard. Please make these adjustment and I’d be happy to give this app 5 stars!
Good app, needs changes.
by gabi marieeee on 2017/12/30 18:15
I downloaded GarageBand on my laptop and my phone. On my laptop, it took about an hour to download (not including the very long amount of time it took to "download all essential sounds"). On my phone, it took about a half an hour to download. On top of this, it freezes almost every time I use the app. I will be very close to being done with a song, and the app will freeze (not crash). I then have no other choice but to close out the app, and when I open it back up, my progress will be gone. I have seen multiple people's reviews and almost half of them say that the same thing is happening to them. This proves that it is not just my phone, it os the app. Another suggestion from me would be to add key changes and tempo changes. This is definitely possible and I think it could make this app much better. Other than that, this music-making program is highly suggested from me and it works very well. There is just a little bit more work that should've gone into it during the iOS 11 process. 3/5 stars
Almost top notch! But it’s got some little issues..
by The new login problem on 2018/03/08 01:03
This app is one of the only ways for me to make music currently, but man is it successful! I’ve written and made some great songs on it, so it functions really well! BUT it is missing some great instruments. The one that I think many would want the most (definitely me) is the Accordion. They are also missing things like Bag pipes, Organ (ones from steeples not from old 70’s pianos), Harmonica, some brass instruments like the Saxophone, and some other ones. But they do have a lot of instruments so I’m not pressuring it. The one thing that takes a star away is the drums. MAN I DESPISE THE DRUM SETTINGS. None of my songs have a good beat due to one thing. When I’m recording for drums and I make a mistake, it plays the last attempt with my new one! So I have to work around deleting mistakes every time! Please stop that drum thing! But other then that, this app is finely tuned, pun intended, And can make great songs! Get garage band, worth the time and effort!
🥇🏆🏅🎖 wonderful app!
by Pat riot 1 on 2018/10/15 17:34
Thank you GarageBand developers! It makes zero sense that your app is rating at four stars. This must be people with low music backgrounds that have brought that number down. Is it a perfect app? Absolutely not but this is the best music creation app I’ve seen for iOS and it absolutely deserves five stars. I have one request other than the optimizing that happens if your performance gets a little heavy, long or if you use external instruments- I wish that this could happen less or faster but I also realize that this probably happens due to various limitations ie; phones are not necessary meant for such an app and audio and sequencing is a processor heavy job. But my request is devs- Can you add an ok prompt after pressing the undo button? Sometimes I delete accidentally and it can be an issue as the button may be pressed when doing other things unrelated. Thanks again for making GB great !
Ech.

You know that feeling you get when you’ve worked on something really hard, and then someone comes over and just ruins it so you have to do it over again? That’s what it’s like using garage band most of the time. I’ll be minding my own business, when out of the blue the app freezes. Not crashes, but freezes. So I have to exit out of the app, go back, and what do you know? All the progress I had been working on my song has vanished! Guess I have to go back and take another 2 hours to remake that song! And this doesn’t happen because my phone has problems (it’s an iPhone seven, it’s never had problems), it’s because the app is just unfinished. It’s hard to use kits in your songs because they’re off-tempo with loops and you can’t change that. And you can’t put two loops from different genres together because again, the tempo is out of place and you can’t fix it. This app is nice and dandy and I REALLY like it at times, but this constant annoyance this app continually brings up is near impossible to tolerate.
Ideas for iPadOS update
by SynthJockey748 on 2019/06/16 17:21
I have noticed that when there is a major update for iOS, GarageBand for iOS is updated as well. Before iPadOS comes out, I do have a few ideas that may be helpful (and I really support) for any major update to GarageBand. A. Please add to the Chillwave loop pack. I love the loops that you guys have there, though there are too little. Also consider adding some bass loops as well. And, of course, new drum kits (preferably electronic) and synthesizers. B. I really do suggest expanding your selection of wind instruments. It would be great if you guys added trombones, tubas, bass clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, etc., because they are just as important as French horn and flute and whatnot. C. Lastly, please make the interface more user-friendly. I can hardly double-tap a loop or instrument to get access to its settings without it taking me to the recording screen. The knobs are also very difficult to adjust. Thanks for your support, the app is wonderful for splicing loops and stuff but I do believe that these suggestions I put out are quite important.
AMAZING!!!
by D. J. Djay Touch M. D. on 2017/11/02 15:53
All I can say is amazing! With all the new bills and whistles as well as all of the free downloads of synthesizers and kits… What more can you ask for.?!! By far this is still the best beat making app in the iTunes store if not on the planet! There is so much that has been added to this app that I don’t know where to begin, but all I can say is great work and please keep the plug-ins coming! There is one thing though… The voiceover accessibility functionality is not working totally on every icon. That is the only drawback to this app that is for person like myself who is visually impaired. I’m sure though that they will work out the bugs as time goes on and quite possibly in the next update. However this will have to do for now, but I am so surprised at all The free downloads… This is really a great app and if I were you I would definitely update and if you haven’t done by now… Purchase this app!!!🙌🏼
Amazing! One big suggestion.
by 2Beast4UGamingYT on 2018/11/16 13:11
Favorite music production app by far, especially the fact that it’s free. I love the Alchemy Synth because before that, there were few presets. The interface is easy. It’s looks nice, and most importantly it sounds great. I remember being so excited because I learned that you can automate the volume in tracks, and I use it all the time and for side chaining. I do however want there to be automation for different effects. Like cutoff, pitch, delay, etc. it would be the greatest thing ever. I think how it would work is you add an effect from the “Plug-ins and EQ” tab. Then there would be a button somewhere on that effect that says “create automation clip” or something. It would be AMAZING if you added this and I think that I would be fully satisfied with GarageBand. I’ve been producing for 2 years (since I was 12) and I have expanded my knowledge of music production. Thanks again for the best mobile DAW!
A few things you could add
by stysjejvsiejdbdjcowlqpap on 2019/01/25 03:54
Ok so this is like the greatest music making app and it’s free, as well as the sound packs. Groovebox and noise are also apps I tried and they also have sound packs, a few are free but the rest cost money so I LOVE that all the packs on GarageBand are free. I do also have a few suggestions to add to the app though 1. Alternate tunings for guitar and bass. I think that the presets are fine for guitar and bass but I think that there should be alternate tunings, like drop D, drop C, and standard E flat, as well as standard D tuning. For the last two tunings you can use a vocal transformer to shift it down 1 or 2 semitones but it would be a lot easier to just switch between tunings 2. A woodwind touch instrument Ok so I don’t know what this would look like but I think we need this touch instrument. Maybe instruments like what we have in the keyboard, flute, clarinet, bassoon, and oboe, but we could also add instruments like recorder, Irish whistle, and Dizi. 3. Brass touch instrument So like woodwind we need the instrument in the keyboard, like the French horn, but we only have the, “Brass ensemble” I want touch instruments like, tuba, trombone, trumpet, saxophone, and euphonium. It would kinda look like the strings touch instrument where you can choose what instruments are playing. Well that’s all I can think of for now but if you could add those in, it would make my week!!
The tyranny of sections
by Stephen. on 2019/01/20 22:39
This is an outstanding app, don’t get me wrong. It’s loaded with great sounds, simple to use, and makes capturing inspiration easy. I’ve really enjoyed messing with it. My one complaint though, and for me it’s a big one, is that you pretty much have to use their concept of sections. This makes some sense, but I’ve found it very limiting. It makes it more difficult to move from one section of a song to the next while recording, because really you should stop and make another section for that. You could go back and do it later, but it’s a pain. And what if you want to throw a bar of only 3 beats in there, or something like that? You can’t really, because you’re beholden to the song’s time signature, enforced through sections. The solution seems pretty simple, and it looks like it actually used to be in the app - time-based, rather than measure-based, recording. Similar to what GarageBand for the Mac has. That gives you the freedom to play with the structure, length, tempo, whatever, however you want. Sure you give up some stuff, but I feel like that’s a common enough use case to warrant inclusion in the app, just like in the Mac version. Until then, I find it too limiting for actual composition, and more suited to sketching ideas and making loops. TL;DR - bring back time-based recording. Don’t force us to use sections. And keep up the great work! It’s an outstanding app in many ways.
Great app. Minor bugs.
by Stethal on 2019/07/02 23:59
I have used this app for about 2 years now and I can say that this is a great app that works well. However, there is a bug whenever importing apple loops into the sampler that happens that causes the loop to go completely silent. The app seems to crash when there are a lot of tracks; there may not be a way to improve this, but an auto save feature could be a lifesaver. In a future update, I hope that you can import any sort of sound (i.e. .wav etc) into the sampler and import sounds for the camera roll and the internet. The instruments are great and all, but there are a few things that I would like to see in the future: -vibrato (on strings specifically) and a way to program vibrato -an option for higher attack on strings -solo instruments (such as solo violin and solo cello.) Currently, there are options to isolate whatever instrument of the string section you desire, but an option for solo strings would be great for writing chamber music or just solos -saxophones -more than just a generic “brass ensemble,” we already have French horns, which is strange that they added French horns and no other brass -mallet instruments other than the ones included in the toy box pack, after all, it couldn’t be that hard to make. -more options for tone on guitar and bass -pop and slap for bass and guitar Perhaps all this is too much to ask, but it would certainly be appreciated!
Would be a 5 star on performance but...
by Robbin BanxX on 2019/01/03 10:19
Everything on here is very good and clean,, I’m giving you guys only 3 stars because I’ve had this app and been using it a lot more then most people do and in the past year and a half you guys have not loaded any new samples/loops/fx during this whole time!!! Literally,,, I saw you guys load those new guitar sounds and drummer sounds consisting of like 20 new loops total,, not even enough for 1 whole new mixpack,,, it’s very disappointing to myself and many of my friends that you guys haven’t added anything else after u made the app,,, it’s been almost 2 years and nobody wants to re-use and recycle the same 6 or 7 mix packs again and again , (come on now it’s time for some new loops/ /samples/ kits to be put on GarageBand! The ones preloaded with the app are all great in quality and sound very nice,, but it’s time you guys gave us some new material to work with nobody likes the same song on repeat for two years straight.. Thank you for listening Sincerely,
It’s Great
by 22bettyboop on 2018/06/11 15:06
I really do love this app, I have created so much good sounding music with it. But my only problem that I absolutely hate when it happens, is the automatic optimizing performance. Sure it’s great and all for when you make small pieces and any short songs with a few instruments. On the other hand it’s also quite annoying. Making a big song that’s more than 3mins and has plenty of instruments being used is quite a hassle and a downer when the automatic optimization takes over. What’s annoying about is that it happens too often. I make little change in volume or just by simply tapping on a portion of a song and it’ll instantly say “optimizing performance”. It takes quite a long to optimize the song which really is a buzz kill when I want to do some editing or just simply listening to it. Basically what I’m saying is that I hope the optimizing performance can be done manually instead of being automatic
You need to add more effects
by tyronn_kitcheyan on 2018/08/27 10:01
Hey apple I make pretty good music and I love the app. but I have one problem you need to add more drums good high quality like the kick I can find about 2 kicks that I use and one of them is the one in the loop section. But please add more snaps theirs only about 3 snaps that I use and you need to add more snaps and also add SIDE CHAIN!!! Please and add PAN FLUTE!!! and please add GLIDES and theirs only 2 synth that has glide and side chain And also add really good sounding guitars. Also add more soft keys Ik theirs faded keys but we need more than that oh and I can’t sing so I tried to get an acpella (I can’t spell it but you know what I mean) so what I did was recorded a acpella then when I was done it sounded like TRASH DUDE I tried to fixed it but nothing was working so I just left and now I make instrumental music but please add more sounds. I hope you see this but if you do I’d be really happy if you add a tropical house kit I’d probably use that all the time.
Amazing
by SkylarkFlight on 2019/03/08 23:50
I wanted a good music-making app like this for ages! I’m a violin player, and it makes me so happy that the orchestral sounds here are decent. I also love the virtual string instruments, they are very creative and are things I have never seen before. However, it could be improved by adding guidelines on each string (like lines telling me where to tap for a G on the D string and all that. Just the basic notes that a beginner would learn, no naturals, no flats). And it bugs me how the full dynamic of the sound comes a tiny bit later than when I actually tapped. This is a big problem, because it’s MUSIC we’re all making here... please fix this. This app, like all others, was kind of hard to get a grasp of. I mean, when I want to use instruments I do not know how to play, I might use the piano version, but the thing is... I don’t play the piano. This is no big deal though.
Vocals...
by Epowers2019 on 2019/03/19 00:53
I’ve been using GarageBand on my phone for about 4 months now to make music. And it’s all very nice and easy to use and I love it. My only complaint or 2 is the autotune setting. I really wish it was more like the MacBook version and I get that it’s a phone version for a reason but after exploring the app and all the different things you can do on it I just wish there was more stuff for the vocals and different plugins or default stuff to mess with. And the key signature for the track, I think you guys should make it so you can change the key signature for each individual track, because that is one thing I’ve noticed. When you’re singing or trying to get on pitch and then on a different part you want to sound different, when you change the key signature it changes all the tracks, but other than that I really enjoy the app, I think it’s easy to use and everything right there on your phone it’s a nice experience, just needs a little more I think
Major app breaking bug
by Soul Stealer Jay on 2019/01/31 05:17
I love GarageBand. It’s where I started making music. But, unfortunately, I’m not able to use it anymore due to a MAJOR bug that disabled me from opening a project regardless of what it is I choose. I can’t choose an instrument to use (amplifier, keyboard, live loops, etc) because every time I do it shows the same screen over and over; blank with just the play button and the other functions on the same line. And I tried opening another project but it does the same thing over and over. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling repeatedly (I’m reinstalling it to email footage to support). Nothing worked at all. I’m a little nervous as to why, and I’m on an iPhone 7. It’s not a general issue with iPhone 7 devices, it just seems to be mine. I’m unsure whether this will get fixed or not, but I hope it does either in the next iOS update or the next GarageBand update as this COULD be a compatibility issue (I’m on iOS 12.1.3). I love GarageBand and I want to use it again, but that bug is preventing me from doing so.
Perfect for making music for fun!
by Townes101 on 2018/07/03 04:16
I’ve been using the app for about 6 months now and and I’ve come up with some extremely decent music so far, Lamar Azul on SoundCloud ;). And this app has definitely peeked and influenced my interest in music much more than it has been in the past with it being free to use. But sadly I’d have to say that I’ve exhausted everything I possibly can (for the type of music I’m going for) in this app and it is some what frustrating. The FX feature just kind of aggravates me more than anything now that the fact it only effects the entire song, and that you don’t have any separate FX for separate tracks. You definitely have to dig deep in this app to really bring out its potential, but when you do you’re left a little disappointed. Can’t wait to get my laptop and actual software and further my musical career, but thank your Garbageband for helping me start it! Lamar Azul
Apple is known for it’s exclusivity, but should GB?
by Branded72 on 2018/07/03 12:19
I want to record tracks that I can send to a few of my friends with whom I collaborate. It would be amazing if I had the ability to send my track in whatever file type I wanted. My collaborators use FL-Studio, ProTools, etc., and they cannot use my tracks. Why is this so difficult? I get Apple’s exclusively. But if they’re going to put so much into a Digital Audio Workstation, why not make it something that can be used all over, with all top tier DAWS? If Apple intends for GarageBand to be a toy, I guess they’ve succeeded. The thing is, however, over time Apple has incorporated tools to make GB more professional, which makes no sense unless they give it the ability to play well with others. Maybe playing well with others is too high a bar? I’d settle for playing with others in any capacity. So with each upgrade, I reluctantly anticipate GarageBand’s entry into the personal music file sharing world...still waiting.
Needs more instruments and instrument creating interface, but great app.
by B CopeDad on 2019/04/21 23:45
This app is great for anyone; whether you’re just messing around, or if you’re a serious musician that needs portability in their work. Its pre-packaged sounds and free sound packs provide relative musical versatility along with the built in mixing options and editing tools. Its only downsides are that the instruments are provided mostly designed with a pop genre “sound,” if you will, and also that you can’t make custom drum kits to achieve a specific sound that you might want to have. The sampler piano, although useful in some cases, relies on microphone quality of the device you use, and aside from tone editing and sound shaping, the sample may very well stay as staticky as your microphone provides. All in all, the app is great as long as you want to make music with the instruments provided. However, if you want to diversify, I wish you the best of luck making a decent instrument from scratch.
Not very happy with this update at all
by 44Archangel on 2017/11/01 20:11
On one of my song files, I only kept a bunch of songs I have on my iPhone on sampler so I could listen to all my songs in different pitches. This is one of my favorite things to do on GarageBand. I opened up the app after the update and saw that a lot of things were screwed up. For one, the list of all the 50+ songs I’ve made on there wasn’t even in the right order in terms of how recently I’ve opened them. Worst of all, that file that contains all of my songs so that I could listen to them in different pitches, cannot be opened. It doesn’t even explain why it won’t open. This is disheartening for me because I had some funny recordings on that file as well from over the years and I really don’t want it all to go to waste. I’ve looked online for ways to make it open, but none of them are how to open it on an iPhone. I’ve tried recreating that file with most of my music and about an hour after starting on it I couldn’t open that anymore either. I’m very frustrated and disappointed with this app.

How it uses up my space

Amazing app but has a serious problem
by ClassicRocker2000 on 2019/08/10 16:12
This is one of the best apps for iPad hands down, but sometimes when I lay down notes manually, they don’t make a sound like they should which is super annoying, since I can’t hear what I’m doing. Even when I play it back it sounds like there are missing notes. Also, there’s no adjustment for guitar “drive” or “distortion” you have the option of either too much on hard rock or not enough on the other four. Please fix!

NOT SURE WHAT TO DO WITH THIS APP
by JuleeOh on 2019/08/09 18:42
So this app is on my phone and all of a sudden has 16 notifications I cannot find even after opening the app. There are some documents also stored in it albeit erroneously.
I can’t seem to work it.
by RicexBowl on 2019/08/09 09:01
Every time I try to make a song on the app, it just gies back to where you make how long the song is supposed to be, even if I follow the directions given in the help option, it still doesn’t work and it’s frustrating, any tips to help?

Can you add a African instruments to the app
by 123 jai on 2019/08/08 00:39
I know you guys have a African loop, but I think it would be nice to add African instruments like drums, flutes, synth and more on the app.

Thanks

Better than fl studio mobile
by Jack Talton on 2019/01/22 16:01
I can't stop giving this app props because this is honestly the greatest music producing app so far...
Headed in the right direction
by Seth Draven on 2018/12/06 23:35
I love what Apple’s done with GarageBand and GarageBand iOS over the past few years, and I’m glad that now you can import and playback MIDI files on GarageBand iOS.

So Close, And Yet So Far (For Professionals, Anyway)
by legittristan on 2018/04/15 05:01
GarageBand is awesome, especially for a free app.

Great app. Minor bugs.
by Stethal on 2019/07/02 23:59
I have used this app for about 2 years now and I can say that this is a great app that works well.
Amazing
