The Member Tools app provides members of the church of jesus christ of latter-day saints with the ability to contact ward and stake members, access event calendars, and locate Church meetinghouses and temples. Leaders can also access additional membership information and reports.

I am unable to sign in to the app. It’s a great tool when it’s working. I try to sign in, it goes into update mode and then stops with an error message. I’ve tried deleting and reinstalling. Same issue. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

It gets very annoying when I can’t change my picture. I’m sick of having my ex as my profile! Haha. I even got in touch with support and their tips didn’t help. The issue is that I will go to put a new picture on and either says there was an error, or it worked but as soon as I exit out it goes right back to the old picture. Super annoying
Bug with iOS 14

This tool works well except with iOS 14 you are no longer able to enable the app in the Phone->Call Blocking & Identification. When you select it, there is a pause and then an error message “The data provided by Tools was invalid. You may try enabling the extension again, and if the problem persists contact the application developer.” I have not found a way to contact the application developers at the church so hoping this review piques someone’s interest. This is a feature I love.
Not synching if correctly

Have multiple problems with this app. Getting password prompts at least once a day and at the most inconvenient times. When I do enter my password, an update icon appears and promptly freezes when I am not on wifi which I rarely am when I am most reliant on the phone app. This problem only started a few weeks ago and it is a real shame.

This app has turned into an absolute mess in the last couple months. I have noticed the general stability of the app decline rapidly over the last couple of months, and now it’s reach the point where I am constantly logged out and unable to sign back in. In the off chance that I am able to sign in, the app logs me back off the next time o launch the app.

Recently the app has been having problems manually updating so I deleted and redownloaded multiple times and every time I redownload I am unable to do anything in the app not even sign in or manually update, I press help nothing happens. Its just entirely unresponsive now. Until crap gets fixed I don’t reccomend this app.

No matter the Apple platform (phone/iPad) or IOS (12 or 13), it wants me to login, tries to update, gives me the failed update message, then takes me back to the login page to do it all over again. Somebody needs to actually test the updates before releasing them, instead of letting members be the alpha AND beta testers.

This is a really helpful app and thanks for creating it. But there’s a huge problem every single time syncing the app with the ward. The 70% of the time it doesn’t let me login again and the password and username are correct.

Great when it works. Unfortunately, that’s not very often. Constantly requires updates and signs out almost every time I use it. Most of the time it takes three or four times to sign in.

Forces me to login every time I open it, but freezes when I try to login. Rebooting, reloading don’t help. As can be seen from the reviews, this app doesn’t work anymore. This is app is critical for people to do their jobs in the church. It is really sad that the church doesn’t seem to care about fixing it. A couple of years ago this app worked flawlessly.

I love this app but please remove the automatic sync and go back to the manual sync. It has not worked since it began and I am constantly having to delete and redownload it to get update information. Can we go back to the way it was? 😊

Can we make a pay portal for tithing? That would benefit most people. A place on the app where I can save my banking info, pay my tithing, and get a statement. Hope this comes out soon because nearly ever app has this feature these days...

I’m here deleting it and re-downloading it again. It is always a problem with syncing. I have fast internet, but it takes so long to sync that it always times out on my phone, sending me back to the login page. So frustrating when you’re out delivering a casserole or something!! But we have no other options, so here I am trying again...

It won’t sync with my account. It just keeps saying there’s an error. And then when I push okay, it says it’s manually updating but it just keeps spinning... nothing ever happens. Also the login is super slow. Can you pls make it so it remembers our login! This app used to be amazing but now it’s basically useless and glacially slow..... Pls fix!!! This piece of crap app won’t sync or update. When I open the app I need to sign in, then it needs to update. When it doesn’t sync, I try to manually update it, and I need to log in again. When that doesn’t work I need to log in again for no reason. Then it’s glitched to the search page with nothing else on it and I have to reload the app and start the cycle all over again. It’s unusable until it’s fixed.

When I open the app it immediately directs me to sign in, even if I just signed in the day before. I enter my credentials and the app begins to update the content, but it always gets stuck updating (it never finishes). Eventually it just asks me to sign in again, at which point the cycle repeats itself.

I am unable to log in and it won’t complete loading... just like everyone else on here. ONCE I was able to log in and it froze on the “updates” screen and wouldn’t let me do anything. All I want to do is know who’s in my ward because I just moved and with COVID I am unable to meet people in person and now I can’t!!! How am I supposed to have an eternal marriage if I can’t even know who my future companion is?!?!?! Most pointless app. Please fix this.

I’m really surprised that our church, which I think is top notch at producing a lot of media like Music and the Spoken Word, and General Conference, has such a sub-par app. I can’t even login. I know I’m using the correct info because it gets me in the church’s website. This app is so essential for so many callings, yet leaves one wanting the old school printed directory instead. Still love our church.

It’s now much like the Titanic, un-synchable. So frustrating and basically impossible to use for my calling. Always logs me out so data is inaccessible. And on the weekend I can’t re-sync to get data again. Eventually by Monday or Tuesday, I can (usually). Soon you won’t have to worry about security of the app cause no one will be using it. Very discouraging.

Syncing capabilities are so unreliable and inconsistent. This has been a bug for months as far as I can tell. This definitely needs to be addressed once and for all. It’s been around far too long to continue to fall back on the same issues.

Over the past several weeks the app continually prompts me to sign in, even though I already have it set to Face ID, and then freezes. I have tried to delete the app and download it again, and have turned my phone off and on again. It prompts me to sign in and then gets stuck. I love using Tools and hope I can get it back to functioning on my phone.

**UPDATE** This is the 2nd review I am sending in. Still having issues with syncing. Please take some time to fix this issue! I would like the benefit of being able to access ward information from my phone in order to fulfill my church calling. I haven’t really had any issues with this app in the past, but lately it has consistently been having issues with not being able to sync manually or automatically. I had ZERO problems syncing my tools before you took it away. Now it won’t update. When I tried to manually update, I couldn’t see ministering assignments. I deleted tools and reinstalled and was good for a month. Now I need to update again, (in a leadership position) I can’t manually update at all. I deleted tools again and reinstalled, now it just is frozen on update and I cannot access tools AT ALL!!! Bring back sync! Please

As other people have said I’m also having issues syncing new information. I’ve tried logging out logging back in, manually updating it, and deleting the app. It has repeatedly said member tools not able to sync try again later or has completely frozen. I’ve barely been able to get new information based on missionaries and ministering. I’ve tried everything that’s been advised and still have a corrupted app. It was great about two months ago but now it’s not the app it was before.

The app has serious problems. It will never complete the sync process. The only way I can get it to work is to delete the app and re-install it. It will then sync one time (sometimes), then its delete and re-install again.

I’m not a fan of this app AT ALL. The ward info is fine and everything, when the app decides to work. I just had to delete and redownload this app so I could see my ward info, nothing was showing up. There are many flaws about this app, I think the church should redo it.

I use this app a lot! When the last update in July 2020 came out, I could no longer sync my device (iPhone). However, once I deleted the app and reloaded it, the new features for security sign in popped up and everything worked again. All my lists for my calling and everything was there. This app makes my life a WHOLE lot easier than going to the LCR on the Church website for my callings. If you’re having trouble syncing, try uninstalling the app.

I have tried updating my profile picture both individual and family photo and have not been able to for over a year. My photo is very outdated. Despite attempting to change my photo numerous times each month it still doesn’t allow me to make the update. This time I was able to save but it still doesn’t update the photo in the end. My wife and I both are unable to sign in because it just sends us in a loop! We sign in, there’s a pop up for automatic updates, then back to the sign in. Can’t even use it! The app used to be okay, lots of bugs and force quits but at least I could sign in.

I loved this app and used it for years but now I have deleted it. I could no longer sign in on the app even though I could sign into the website. The app just kept returning to the screen asking me to sign in. Too bad. This was very useful. The help option tries to get you to reset the password which is clearly not the problem. Maybe I need to upgrade phones. I’m using an IPhone 8.

I have had to sign-in at least 6 different times because the app won’t update automatically anymore. I should only have to sign-in once and after that I should be able to go to my settings on the app to sync everything. It is getting annoying having to re-renter my information every time I want to automatically update information on the app
Suddenly Unable to Sync

Like several others note the app suddenly and recently stopped being able to finish it's sync process. This may have been triggered by multiple attempts to sync while the Church's web site was having seizures yesterday. Since the Church's web site became functional again I tried to sync repeatedly (because the app wouldn't let me do anything else), and I tried the usual iOS methods for removing and restoring the app. The fix this time was to go deep in iOS settings and delete the app along with it's data and documents. (Try Settings, General, iPhone Storage, open the Tools app listing and choose Delete App.) This app still needs fixing. Maybe allow customers to kill an obviously stalled sync process and/or clear failed sync downloads from within the app. Maybe prevent the app from trying to sync when Church web resources are glitching. Like others I've learned to expect the app to catastrophically fail at the most inopportune times and function reasonably well only when it's not really needed. Having functioned as a ward, assistant, or stake clerk for around 35 years this app is the only tool so far that has not been reliable. I've been wishing it would get better since it was made available. Function increases have been great. It now needs stability/reliability fixes.

I’m changing my review because the app has gotten better, but I do have another suggestion that came about because of a frustration. I’m living in a new area and recently there was an activity at the stake center. Well, the app kept sending my google maps to a location where there is no church building! I at least knew not to follow it, but then I was stuck for awhile trying to figure out how to get to the stake center. It was frustrating and I was late. I would appreciate it if in the “Chapels” tab, that instead of it just opening straight to a map that it first gives you the addresses of each building in YOUR STAKE and labels them (e.g. Stake Center, Ward 22, Sun Ward, etc.) so you can copy and paste the addresses. **UPDATE** This is the 2nd review I am sending in. Still having issues with syncing. Please take some time to fix this issue! I would like the benefit of being able to access ward information from my phone in order to fulfill my church calling. I haven’t really had any issues with this app in the past, but lately it has consistently been having issues with not being able to sync manually or automatically. Would really appreciate it if this app could have a major fix through, I use this app for my church calling constantly and it’s frustrating that the app isn’t working on my phone.
Unable to see current data

I am having syncing issues it seems. Not able to see current information in the directory. Member’s phone number is changed but I still see the old phone number. She and another sister I checked with is able to see the correct phone number. I have synced twice, no change. I turned off my phone and left it off for over three hours, and still the same. I have deleted the app, waited for several hours before installing again and the same thing. I have deleted it from all my devices, but no different. I do not get the option to reinstall, only to open because it is in the “cloud”. Please advise how to avoided installing the same corrupt app. It is not showing in iCloud in settings.

Great app that makes it easy to connect to your ward, and easily contact anyone. The newest update has also made the UI much cleaner, and up to date with today’s standards. It is very nice. What would make it even better is having the ability to not I only search or categorize by last name, but by first name also. It would also be very helpful if all the pieces of information were standardized in their format such as the phone numbers where some appear with dashes, an others without them. The dashes make it much easier to read when you need to write down a phone number.

I use this app all the time and it works amazing! So glad we have an app like this now and how we can easily connect with the missionaries as well. There are only two things I would want changed to this app. First, is to be able to save events to other calendars than just apple calendar(I have an iPhone). It won't let me choose my Google calendar to transfer an event from the app calendar to my calendar. Second, it would be amazing to be able to add events in the app and not have to go to the website to do it. Thanks for all the amazing improvements that you keep putting into the app.

It’s easy to take this for granted, but I remember the days of printed Stake directories. We have it good. I use this reliable, intuitive app for a hundred little tasks and questions: getting around on splits with missionaries, keeping track of kids’ names and birthdays, helping youth sign up for FamilySearch accounts, reviewing new move-ins, and much more. Would love to see in future releases: a map module like the one on LCR; my location and option for driving directions; ability for clerks etc to update info in the app; and reporting for HT (now ministering).
App no longer works for older devices

According to church app support, this app no longer works per new Apple protocols unless you have iOS 11 and higher. Nothing can be done. Older iOS will no longer work. They church app support suggestion is to do the online internet search to find the info needed. I can't update my OS because will lose access to 9 apps I paid for that no longer exists that I use weekly if not daily. Wish I had known about losing member tool access with the latest syn before hand. Would have saved important member contact info into contact app before hand. Just wanted to warn others that you may lose the app if you do the next syn, and sooner or later, all will have to syn. Older devices are being left behind as the church moves forward.

This app has been a lifesaver so many times for helping me stay in touch with my ward or fulfill callings! This year however it has been very hit and miss as to whether I can use it. Between mandatory syncs that freeze up, but still lock me out of my contacts until they are done, error messages when trying to contact support, and intermittent issues with biometrics for login, I never know if I’ll be able to use it or not. I appreciate the new features over the last few years, but can we please go back to basics and make the app reliable again before anything else?

I’m sure there’s a reason for it (I’ll reserve judgment on whether it’s a good one or not), but it’s seriously obnoxious, since if I’m opening the app, it’s because I want to look something up, but can’t until I jump through the required hoops. Please at least add an extension for 1Password so that when it forces me to sign in again for the 800th time I don’t have to leave LDS Tools, go into 1Password, and go back to LDS Tools. Small complaint? Maybe, but iOS has had the ability to use extensions since iOS 8, which was released in 2014.

I’m locked out of this app because it constantly tells me the church website is down for maintenance when I try to sync. That is completely untrue as I am able to log in to the church site easily every time. So it’s stuck on the opening sync screen, telling me it can’t sync. I have a new phone as of one year ago & I'm running a current iOS. I’ve deleted & reinstalled the app with no improvement. Since we no longer receive paper ward or stake directories, what are we supposed to do to reach other members when this app doesn’t work? This app is an important tool for members. It’s baffling to me that the developers still haven’t fixed it. It could be great but unfortunately it’s completely unusable. Please fix it!
Would the Church ever consider digital Temple Recomends?

I woke up early to go to the temple with my wife and son and when checking to make sure I had my recommend, I realized that I had misplaced it somehow. Anyway, I had to send the two of them off and it later occurred to me that this app shows my temple recommend status as being active. I don’t know if this would have sufficed, but it did give me pause thinking that a digital version, one that could be added to my ewallet would be very convenient.

This app seems like a decent enough idea in theory, but in practice it’s caused me a lot of grief. See, I haven’t been involved with the Mormon church in several years, but since the local membership and clergy has full access to my contact information (which I can’t seem to erase myself) I still get frequent contact from local leaders and members. I have no ill-will toward the local members in my area, but frankly they’re wasting their time with me. I’m not interested in going back to their church. Please, please update this with an option to either hide or erase my information so that the local members can focus on people who are actively interested in being involved.

Touch ID is pointless

I access this app about once a week. Not very often. Every single time I open it, it asks for my password, if I want to enable touch ID and if I want to sync it. Such a pain. Why cant it be like every other touch ID app and recognize it every single time? Whats the point of touch ID if you have to verify your password regardless? Let’s be honest, how much personal information is on here? My banking app has more personal information available than this app and I have only signed in once. That was when I installed it and set up touch ID. Now, touch ID works every single time. This app should have the same functionality or its just a waste of time.
Bug with iOS 14

This tool works well except with iOS 14 you are no longer able to enable the app in the Phone->Call Blocking & Identification. When you select it, there is a pause and then an error message “The data provided by Tools was invalid. You may try enabling the extension again, and if the problem persists contact the application developer.” I have not found a way to contact the application developers at the church so hoping this review piques someone’s interest. This is a feature I love.

I use this app a lot! When the last update in July 2020 came out, I could no longer sync my device (iPhone). However, once I deleted the app and reloaded it, the new features for security sign in popped up and everything worked again. All my lists for my calling and everything was there. This app makes my life a WHOLE lot easier than going to the LCR on the Church website for my callings. If you’re having trouble syncing, try uninstalling the app.
Difficult for the Elderly

The controls at the bottom are extremely difficult to use for my 92 year old father-in-law. Too small. Consideration needs to be given for poor eyesight and motor control. He relies on Member Tools as a member of the Elders Quorum Presidency, but it’s just too difficult to navigate compared to older versions. Having been required to update due to the fact that his version was no longer supported, he is now left with an app he struggles with. The same issue applies to LDS Library! Thanks.

This app is getting better all the time. One thing though, you really need to get rid of the notifications that appear on every single button press. When I press a button, I really don’t need a notification to tell me I pressed a button or a notification letting me know what process just happened. That seems like a debug feature and not something the user should be seeing.
Photo Upload

Overall the app is great. I love the functionality and being able to quickly see ward leadership and member contact information. One bug I’ve been running into is with the photo upload. I’ve been trying for weeks to change my family’s photo, but no matter how many times I try and no matter what picture I try, I get a message that the upload failed.

I’m appalled at how badly this app is set up. The security is unnecessarily tight, to the point of asking for the password even if you minimize the app, which can delete your work. Emailing organizations doesn’t work as the Send button is inexplicably frayed out. The pictures for members phase in and out of display unless you go all the way into individual pictures to refresh them. To whomever is managing this app, please take some time to redo the way the app handles basic things like syncing and displaying information, because much more basic apps can do it just fine.
Directory, not much more

It works as a directory just fine. But if you try and use other “tools” it has less than reliable results. I’ve reached out to the app support a number of times and just been told to restart the app. This has been through numerous updates, and the issue with the temples crashing whenever you try to look at a schedule or other info on a temple that is not your assigned one by the area. It happened when searching by name or nearby, and even happens on the assigned temple if you try and look more than a day in advance for a session schedule.

This app is great and super useful, except that it has had bugs for the last few years. Frequently I will open the app, sometimes it’ll ask me to sign in, which never work. Then when I sign out all the way, and try to log in again, it may or may not work, but then may not sync. I’ve hoped that new updates would address these issues. Today I couldn’t sign in at all, so I uninstalled the app and reinstalled it, and could sign in no problem. This has happened more than once and is a bit frustrating.

If you need to look up someone’s phone number really quickly, you’re looking at a minimum 15 minute process of logging in, and re-downloading all the data, but possibly an hour, or maybe you just need to try on a different day. It lets you set your thumb print to access, instead of typing in your password, but that expires every couple weeks, making that feature essentially useless. If you can get in, everything is organized really intuitively, and lets you call or text members right from the app. Good luck.

The only problem I'm finding is that as I looked up myself in the directory my name does not appear under the C category as it should but rather I find it under my wife's maiden name under the S category. I'm not particularly concerned about it but I am concerned that if my name is mixed up how many other names are mixed up as well, it might make it difficult to use if the directory is showing people under names they no longer use and perhaps people don't know.

I like this app and use it often. I use my calendar on my phone for EVERYTHING! One thing I wish they would fix on this app is when I copy an event to my phone calendar from the lds tools calendar, and then I go back into my lds tools calendar, it takes me all the way back to “today’s” date. I wish it would go back to the date I was on. It is such a pain and takes forever to add church events from this calendar. PLEASE FIX THIS! Thanks!

I understand that it is in Apple's best interest to do things that force people to buy new devices. I think it's a dishonest business practice, but I understand Apple is in the business of making money and crippling my device is one way they can force me to buy a new one. I don't understand the church playing along with that game, though. By making the church apps compatible with only the latest devices, I am forced to either shell out an irresponsible amount of money for the latest, greatest shiny thing, or go back to paper. For now I'm using paper manuals, texting numbers to other members of the presidency so they can enter my numbers in the quarterly report, and asking the clerk to print out paper versions of the lists and reports I need. I am grateful everyone is understanding and no one is asking things like, "So when are you going to upgrade so we don't have to do all this work for you?" I hate the position this has put me in.

I unload and reload the app, I changed my password, nothing works. It worked fine for years, and suddenly I can't log in anymore. I'm signed in on my computer, but now I can't log in on my phone. (Which is where I need to be able to access addresses!) I've written customer support multiple times to no avail. What happened? It worked just fine for so long? I even got it to work for a few weeks a couple months ago, but then it started saying "downloading..this may take a couple of minutes depending on your connection." And it never downloads. It just sits there.
Disappointing programming

I actually called and spoke to someone in the tech department, explaining that many members do not run out and update their iPads to generation 6, and that the industry standard is to make software backwards compatible with previous versions of operating systems (such as iOS) so members don't suddenly lose the ability to use apps they have grown accustomed to using in their callings. Unfortunately, the response was: "Sorry, we only program for the most current operating system. You'll just have to upgrade." Note: I am a programmer - it's not that hard to make software compatible with older operating systems.
Missing People

I haven’t had any problems logging in or syncing like most people, but I do have ward members completely missing from my list, including my own father and brothers. They show up on my husband’s list on his phone, so I know it’s not an issue on the ward records end. It’s frustrating when you go to utilize the app to find the address of a new sister you visiting teach and she’s not on the list at all. In theory this tool is priceless, in practice it is often rendered useless.

Syncing Issues

As other people have said I’m also having issues syncing new information. I’ve tried logging out logging back in, manually updating it, and deleting the app. It has repeatedly said member tools not able to sync try again later or has completely frozen. I’ve barely been able to get new information based on missionaries and ministering. I’ve tried everything that’s been advised and still have a corrupted app. It was great about two months ago but now it’s not the app it was before.

I have ward member phone numbers and addresses at my fingertips wherever I am. Gives me option to save info to my contacts. I can easily get directions to people's homes. Makes my life easier! I only wish more people would upload their photos to help me learn names of members better, but of course that is not the app's fault. UPDATE: app is having too many problems now. Most of them time I cannot access anything within the app.

This app has never had the best performance and with the latest update it has failed miserably. It kept telling me I needed to sync it. Even with a strong WiFi signal it wasn’t syncing and would get stuck in the same screen. I restarted it several times to no avail. I thought perhaps reinstalling would help, it only made it worse. It asked me to sign in, I did. Only the update screen would show and then it would ask me to sign in again. I tried this process several times. Very disappointing app. There is no support I’ve found to report this issue.
Critical Fool

I have used and enjoyed this app for a number of years. It has been a critical tool for ward and stake callings. About 2 months ago, this app stopped working on my iPad. The iPad was old and needed toe replaced so I did. I downloaded this to my new iPad and it worked for almost a month and now all I get are empty pages without any names or phone numbers or anything! It has stopped working on my older iPhone, I will not replace that. This is crazy. I have no printed ward or stake directory and this electronic "marvel" gives me nothing! Tell me again why we all had to go digital without any printed backup? Bad choice.

The actual features of the app are great and I love the UI. However, the Touch ID feature is only enabled for a few weeks or month (not exactly sure) and then I have to sign in again. Not convenient at all. Also, when it forces me to sync it signs me out and then when I try to sign back in I am unable to do so. I tap ‘Sign in’ but nothing happens. I am unable to use the app for a while. Typically I check back a several days later and “magically” I’m able to sign in again. Very frustrating.

This app has just gotten worse and worse with every update. Either it says it's sinking and it just never syncs or today it's telling me that I'm not online yet here I am writing this review. I can never remember my password (my fault I know but I can't be the only one) it either needs to stay signed in or have me sign in every time so that the passwords remain fresh in my mind so I'm not spending a half an hour signing in whenever it needs sinking. So here I am in my car to go help someone move and I can't find her address because the app is not working... again...

I love this app. For someone that has moved around a lot, it has helped me with my callings and getting to know the ward better. Recently tried to download a contact and didn’t see the ability to actually add them. The buttons were available in previous versions, well turns out they are still there only invisible... please update in next version.

Oh my word!!!! Signing into this app is the biggest and I mean biggest HASSLE in the world. Totally agree with another reviewer who said that their bank had more sensitive info than this app and yet they can always sign in. I have been locked out for some unknown reason for a month. I have to use my husband’s phone or computer if I need a phone number. I’ve sent two emails....nothing, they just come back with the same instructions I’ve done a dozen times. What a mess! Since the Church has now made this the only way we can keep in touch, something needs to be done to IMPROVE IT.

I’ve used LDS tools app for many years and it’s been great and not so great. Overall it’s a wonderful tool for ward and missionary work. A few small things that frustrate me personally though is the inability to update my personal and family photo(getting married). I’ve attempted every so often on the app and computer and despite updates to the platform I’ve had no luck with updating them. I always receive a “photo upload failed. Please try again later.” When I finally went to try to use the contact us option in the settings to receive some help I received a “cannotsendemailmsg” prompt. Again, I enjoy the app, but it does need a little more work here and there!
Problem with editing information

It seems like no matter what, I have the hardest time trying to edit my info and update my photo. My photo is several years old and I try to update it and it always says a connection problem when that’s not the problem. It took me several times to update the contact information, I had to go online to change, delete the app and resign in to get it to update properly. The software needs to be rewritten for this part of the app.

I’m unable to update my family and individual photos, so they’re a couple years out of date and some of our family members don’t have photos attached to the account. I’ve been trying to switch them for over a year and I keep being told that my clerk has to change the photos. Sorry, but I’m not sending my family photos to our clerk. I should be able to change them myself.
SERIOUS BUG

I have an iPhone and an iPad. Fortunately this still works on my iPhone. On the iPad it shows me as a new user. I put in my information and sync it almost always crashes at the end. I deleted the program and reinstalled it, did a synchronization and could see that all my data was in it but it immediately asked me if I would like to use my fingerprint security, which I said yes. I touch the home button and nothing happened. I pressed again and it said "all data clear" and went back to new user mode. I then resynced it and I've had multiple crashes.

I have tried updating my profile picture both individual and family photo and have not been able to for over a year. My photo is very outdated. Despite attempting to change my photo numerous times each month it still doesn’t allow me to make the update. This time I was able to save but it still doesn’t update the photo in the end. Please fix.
Sync fails 3/4 of the way through and contact us link broken

I was updating the data, and realized it was not actually updating the data. I deleted the app, then reinstalled it. After the install, I will not sync. It errors 3/4 of the way through the download. Then prompts me for my password, which I have already typed like 15 times. I tried the contact is link, which apparently does nothing. On the 20th time or so, it worked, now the data that was stale before I reinstalled the app is correct.

I don’t have any other apps that require me to sync for them to be up to date. Is there a reason at least the calendar portion cannot be updated in real time? There is often confusion in our stake about upcoming events that have been updated on the calendar, but members are unaware because they have not synced. Please consider forcing sync on a weekly basis if the calendar cannot be updated in real time.

I love and use the app every week, but now that I switched phones, I can’t login or sync. It acts like it it will start to, but then does nothing. I am hoping this is bug that the Church is already aware of and an update will be coming soon. LDS Tools has been mighty handy for our rapidly growing ward ... it would be bummer to have that anymore.

I am unable to sign in to the app. It’s a great tool when it’s working. I try to sign in, it goes into update mode and then stops with an error message. I’ve tried deleting and reinstalling. Same issue. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

It gets very annoying when I can’t change my picture. I’m sick of having my ex as my profile! Haha. I even got in touch with support and their tips didn’t help. The issue is that I will go to put a new picture on and either says there was an error, or it worked but as soon as I exit out it goes right back to the old picture. Super annoying

Not synching if correctly

Have multiple problems with this app. Getting password prompts at least once a day and at the most inconvenient times. When I do enter my password, an update icon appears and promptly freezes when I am not on wifi which I rarely am when I am most reliant on the phone app. This problem only started a few weeks ago and it is a real shame.

I have noticed the general stability of the app decline rapidly over the last couple of months, and now it’s reach the point where I am constantly logged out and unable to sign back in. In the off chance that I am able to sign in, the app logs me back off the next time o launch the app.

No matter the Apple platform (phone/iPad) or IOS (12 or 13), it wants me to login, tries to update, gives me the failed update message, then takes me back to the login page to do it all over again. Somebody needs to actually test the updates before releasing them, instead of letting members be the alpha AND beta testers.

This is a really helpful app and thanks for creating it. But there’s a huge problem every single time syncing the app with the ward. The 70% of the time it doesn’t let me login again and the password and username are correct.

Forces me to login every time I open it, but freezes when I try to login. Rebooting, reloading don’t help. As can be seen from the reviews, this app doesn’t work anymore. This is app is critical for people to do their jobs in the church. It is really sad that the church doesn’t seem to care about fixing it. A couple of years ago this app worked flawlessly.

I’m here deleting it and re-downloading it again. It is always a problem with syncing. I have fast internet, but it takes so long to sync that it always times out on my phone, sending me back to the login page. So frustrating when you’re out delivering a casserole or something!! This piece of crap app won’t sync or update. When I open the app I need to sign in, then it needs to update. When it doesn’t sync, I try to manually update it, and I need to log in again. When that doesn’t work I need to log in again for no reason. Then it’s glitched to the search page with nothing else on it and I have to reload the app and start the cycle all over again. It’s unusable until it’s fixed.

I enter my credentials and the app begins to update the content, but it always gets stuck updating (it never finishes). I’m really surprised that our church, which I think is top notch at producing a lot of media like Music and the Spoken Word, and General Conference, has such a sub-par app. I can’t even login. I know I’m using the correct info because it gets me in the church’s website. This app is so essential for so many callings, yet leaves one wanting the old school printed directory instead. Still love our church.

It’s now much like the Titanic, un-synchable. So frustrating and basically impossible to use for my calling. Always logs me out so data is inaccessible. And on the weekend I can’t re-sync to get data again. Eventually by Monday or Tuesday, I can (usually). Soon you won’t have to worry about security of the app cause no one will be using it. Very discouraging.

I had ZERO problems syncing my tools before you took it away. Now it won’t update. When I tried to manually update, I couldn’t see ministering assignments. I deleted tools and reinstalled and was good for a month. Now I need to update again, (in a leadership position) I can’t manually update at all. I’ve tried logging out logging back in, manually updating it, and deleting the app. It has repeatedly said member tools not able to sync try again later or has completely frozen. I’ve barely been able to get new information based on missionaries and ministering. I’ve tried everything that’s been advised and still have a corrupted app. It was great about two months ago but now it’s not the app it was before.

I use this app a lot! When the last update in July 2020 came out, I could no longer sync my device (iPhone). However, once I deleted the app and reloaded it, the new features for security sign in popped up and everything worked again. All my lists for my calling and everything was there. This app makes my life a WHOLE lot easier than going to the LCR on the Church website for my callings. If you’re having trouble syncing, try uninstalling the app.

The app just kept returning to the screen asking me to sign in. Too bad. This was very useful. The help option tries to get you to reset the password which is clearly not the problem. I should only have to sign-in once and after that I should be able to go to my settings on the app to sync everything. Suddenly Unable to Sync

Like several others note the app suddenly and recently stopped being able to finish it's sync process. This may have been triggered by multiple attempts to sync while the Church's web site was having seizures yesterday. Since the Church's web site became functional again I tried to sync repeatedly (because the app wouldn't let me do anything else), and I tried the usual iOS methods for removing and restoring the app. The fix this time was to go deep in iOS settings and delete the app along with it's data and documents. (Try Settings, General, iPhone Storage, open the Tools app listing and choose Delete App.) This app still needs fixing. Maybe allow customers to kill an obviously stalled sync process and/or clear failed sync downloads from within the app. Maybe prevent the app from trying to sync when Church web resources are glitching. Like others I've learned to expect the app to catastrophically fail at the most inopportune times and function reasonably well only when it's not really needed. Having functioned as a ward, assistant, or stake clerk for around 35 years this app is the only tool so far that has not been reliable. I've been wishing it would get better since it was made available. Function increases have been great. It now needs stability/reliability fixes.

I’m changing my review because the app has gotten better, but I do have another suggestion that came about because of a frustration. I’m living in a new area and recently there was an activity at the stake center. Well, the app kept sending my google maps to a location where there is no church building! I at least knew not to follow it, but then I was stuck for awhile trying to figure out how to get to the stake center. It was frustrating and I was late. I would appreciate it if in the “Chapels” tab, that instead of it just opening straight to a map that it first gives you the addresses of each building in YOUR STAKE and labels them (e.g. Stake Center, Ward 22, Sun Ward, etc.) so you can copy and paste the addresses. Then below that there should be the option to “open map” so you can see a map of all the buildings in the world like it already does. Thank you.

I am having syncing issues it seems. Not able to see current information in the directory. Member’s phone number is changed but I still see the old phone number. She and another sister I checked with is able to see the correct phone number. I have synced twice, no change. I turned off my phone and left it off for over three hours, and still the same. I have deleted the app, waited for several hours before installing again and the same thing. I have deleted it from all my devices, but no different. I do not get the option to reinstall, only to open because it is in the “cloud”. Please advise how to avoided installing the same corrupt app. It is not showing in iCloud in settings.

Great app that makes it easy to connect to your ward, and easily contact anyone. The newest update has also made the UI much cleaner, and up to date with today’s standards. It is very nice. What would make it even better is having the ability to not I only search or categorize by last name, but by first name also. It would also be very helpful if all the pieces of information were standardized in their format such as the phone numbers where some appear with dashes, an others without them. The dashes make it much easier to read when you need to write down a phone number.

I use this app all the time and it works amazing! So glad we have an app like this now and how we can easily connect with the missionaries as well. There are only two things I would want changed to this app. First, is to be able to save events to other calendars than just apple calendar(I have an iPhone). It won't let me choose my Google calendar to transfer an event from the app calendar to my calendar. Second, it would be amazing to be able to add events in the app and not have to go to the website to do it. Thanks for all the amazing improvements that you keep putting into the app.

It’s easy to take this for granted, but I remember the days of printed Stake directories. We have it good. I use this reliable, intuitive app for a hundred little tasks and questions: getting around on splits with missionaries, keeping track of kids’ names and birthdays, helping youth sign up for FamilySearch accounts, reviewing new move-ins, and much more. Would love to see in future releases: a map module like the one on LCR; my location and option for driving directions; ability for clerks etc to update info in the app; and reporting for HT (now ministering).

According to church app support, this app no longer works per new Apple protocols unless you have iOS 11 and higher. Nothing can be done. Older iOS will no longer work. They church app support suggestion is to do the online internet search to find the info needed. I can't update my OS because will lose access to 9 apps I paid for that no longer exists that I use weekly if not daily. Wish I had known about losing member tool access with the latest syn before hand. Would have saved important member contact info into contact app before hand. Just wanted to warn others that you may lose the app if you do the next syn, and sooner or later, all will have to syn. Older devices are being left behind as the church moves forward.
A necessary tool, that sometimes even works

This app has been a lifesaver so many times for helping me stay in touch with my ward or fulfill callings! This year however it has been very hit and miss as to whether I can use it. Between mandatory syncs that freeze up, but still lock me out of my contacts until they are done, error messages when trying to contact support, and intermittent issues with biometrics for login, I never know if I’ll be able to use it or not. I appreciate the new features over the last few years, but can we please go back to basics and make the app reliable again before anything else?
Monthly sign in is the worst

I’m sure there’s a reason for it (I’ll reserve judgment on whether it’s a good one or not), but it’s seriously obnoxious, since if I’m opening the app, it’s because I want to look something up, but can’t until I jump through the required hoops. Please at least add an extension for 1Password so that when it forces me to sign in again for the 800th time I don’t have to leave LDS Tools, go into 1Password, and go back to LDS Tools. Small complaint? Maybe, but iOS has had the ability to use extensions since iOS 8, which was released in 2014.

I’m locked out of this app because it constantly tells me the church website is down for maintenance when I try to sync. That is completely untrue as I am able to log in to the church site easily every time. So it’s stuck on the opening sync screen, telling me it can’t sync. I have a new phone as of one year ago & I'm running a current iOS. I’ve deleted & reinstalled the app with no improvement. Since we no longer receive paper ward or stake directories, what are we supposed to do to reach other members when this app doesn’t work? This app is an important tool for members. It’s baffling to me that the developers still haven’t fixed it. It could be great but unfortunately it’s completely unusable. Please fix it!
Would the Church ever consider digital Temple Recomends?

I woke up early to go to the temple with my wife and son and when checking to make sure I had my recommend, I realized that I had misplaced it somehow. Anyway, I had to send the two of them off and it later occurred to me that this app shows my temple recommend status as being active. I don’t know if this would have sufficed, but it did give me pause thinking that a digital version, one that could be added to my ewallet would be very convenient.

This app seems like a decent enough idea in theory, but in practice it’s caused me a lot of grief. See, I haven’t been involved with the Mormon church in several years, but since the local membership and clergy has full access to my contact information (which I can’t seem to erase myself) I still get frequent contact from local leaders and members. I have no ill-will toward the local members in my area, but frankly they’re wasting their time with me. I’m not interested in going back to their church. Please, please update this with an option to either hide or erase my information so that the local members can focus on people who are actively interested in being involved.
App not working

Touch ID is pointless

I access this app about once a week. Not very often. Every single time I open it, it asks for my password, if I want to enable touch ID and if I want to sync it. Such a pain. Why cant it be like every other touch ID app and recognize it every single time? Whats the point of touch ID if you have to verify your password regardless? Let’s be honest, how much personal information is on here? My banking app has more personal information available than this app and I have only signed in once. That was when I installed it and set up touch ID. Now, touch ID works every single time. This app should have the same functionality or its just a waste of time.
Bug with iOS 14

This tool works well except with iOS 14 you are no longer able to enable the app in the Phone->Call Blocking & Identification. When you select it, there is a pause and then an error message “The data provided by Tools was invalid. You may try enabling the extension again, and if the problem persists contact the application developer.” I have not found a way to contact the application developers at the church so hoping this review piques someone’s interest. This is a feature I love.
Update trouble fixed

I use this app a lot! When the last update in July 2020 came out, I could no longer sync my device (iPhone). However, once I deleted the app and reloaded it, the new features for security sign in popped up and everything worked again. All my lists for my calling and everything was there. This app makes my life a WHOLE lot easier than going to the LCR on the Church website for my callings. If you’re having trouble syncing, try uninstalling the app.
Difficult for the Elderly

The controls at the bottom are extremely difficult to use for my 92 year old father-in-law. Too small. Consideration needs to be given for poor eyesight and motor control. He relies on Member Tools as a member of the Elders Quorum Presidency, but it’s just too difficult to navigate compared to older versions. Having been required to update due to the fact that his version was no longer supported, he is now left with an app he struggles with. The same issue applies to LDS Library! Thanks.
Great Improvements

This app is getting better all the time. One thing though, you really need to get rid of the notifications that appear on every single button press. When I press a button, I really don’t need a notification to tell me I pressed a button or a notification letting me know what process just happened. That seems like a debug feature and not something the user should be seeing.
Photo Upload

Overall the app is great. I love the functionality and being able to quickly see ward leadership and member contact information. One bug I’ve been running into is with the photo upload. I’ve been trying for weeks to change my family’s photo, but no matter how many times I try and no matter what picture I try, I get a message that the upload failed.
Needs serious attention

I’m appalled at how badly this app is set up. The security is unnecessarily tight, to the point of asking for the password even if you minimize the app, which can delete your work. Emailing organizations doesn’t work as the Send button is inexplicably frayed out. The pictures for members phase in and out of display unless you go all the way into individual pictures to refresh them. To whomever is managing this app, please take some time to redo the way the app handles basic things like syncing and displaying information, because much more basic apps can do it just fine.
Directory, not much more

It works as a directory just fine. But if you try and use other “tools” it has less than reliable results. I’ve reached out to the app support a number of times and just been told to restart the app. This has been through numerous updates, and the issue with the temples crashing whenever you try to look at a schedule or other info on a temple that is not your assigned one by the area. It happened when searching by name or nearby, and even happens on the assigned temple if you try and look more than a day in advance for a session schedule.
Bugs around sign in and sync.

This app is great and super useful, except that it has had bugs for the last few years. Frequently I will open the app, sometimes it’ll ask me to sign in, which never work. Then when I sign out all the way, and try to log in again, it may or may not work, but then may not sync. I’ve hoped that new updates would address these issues. Today I couldn’t sign in at all, so I uninstalled the app and reinstalled it, and could sign in no problem. This has happened more than once and is a bit frustrating.

If you need to look up someone’s phone number really quickly, you’re looking at a minimum 15 minute process of logging in, and re-downloading all the data, but possibly an hour, or maybe you just need to try on a different day. It lets you set your thumb print to access, instead of typing in your password, but that expires every couple weeks, making that feature essentially useless. If you can get in, everything is organized really intuitively, and lets you call or text members right from the app. Good luck.
Directory

The only problem I'm finding is that as I looked up myself in the directory my name does not appear under the C category as it should but rather I find it under my wife's maiden name under the S category. I'm not particularly concerned about it but I am concerned that if my name is mixed up how many other names are mixed up as well, it might make it difficult to use if the directory is showing people under names they no longer use and perhaps people don't know.
Calendar

I like this app and use it often. I use my calendar on my phone for EVERYTHING! One thing I wish they would fix on this app is when I copy an event to my phone calendar from the lds tools calendar, and then I go back into my lds tools calendar, it takes me all the way back to “today’s” date. I wish it would go back to the date I was on. It is such a pain and takes forever to add church events from this calendar. PLEASE FIX THIS! Thanks!
Back to paper

I understand that it is in Apple's best interest to do things that force people to buy new devices. I think it's a dishonest business practice, but I understand Apple is in the business of making money and crippling my device is one way they can force me to buy a new one. I don't understand the church playing along with that game, though. By making the church apps compatible with only the latest devices, I am forced to either shell out an irresponsible amount of money for the latest, greatest shiny thing, or go back to paper. For now I'm using paper manuals, texting numbers to other members of the presidency so they can enter my numbers in the quarterly report, and asking the clerk to print out paper versions of the lists and reports I need. I am grateful everyone is understanding and no one is asking things like, "So when are you going to upgrade so we don't have to do all this work for you?" I hate the position this has put me in.
I can never log in.

I unload and reload the app, I changed my password, nothing works. It worked fine for years, and suddenly I can't log in anymore. I'm signed in on my computer, but now I can't log in on my phone. (Which is where I need to be able to access addresses!) I've written customer support multiple times to no avail. What happened? It worked just fine for so long? I even got it to work for a few weeks a couple months ago, but then it started saying "downloading..this may take a couple of minutes depending on your connection." And it never downloads. It just sits there.
Disappointing programming

I actually called and spoke to someone in the tech department, explaining that many members do not run out and update their iPads to generation 6, and that the industry standard is to make software backwards compatible with previous versions of operating systems (such as iOS) so members don't suddenly lose the ability to use apps they have grown accustomed to using in their callings. Unfortunately, the response was: "Sorry, we only program for the most current operating system. You'll just have to upgrade." Note: I am a programmer - it's not that hard to make software compatible with older operating systems.
Missing People

I haven’t had any problems logging in or syncing like most people, but I do have ward members completely missing from my list, including my own father and brothers. They show up on my husband’s list on his phone, so I know it’s not an issue on the ward records end. It’s frustrating when you go to utilize the app to find the address of a new sister you visiting teach and she’s not on the list at all. In theory this tool is priceless, in practice it is often rendered useless.

Original review: Switched phones, tried to download the app on my new phone. Nothing. It tries to sign me in and download the data but also fails. Super bummed about this because I rely on this app a LOT and I’m not sure what to do about it. Update: tried again a few hours later, worked just fine. Clearly some problems, but it’s such a good app overall that I increased it to 4 stars
Syncing Issues

As other people have said I’m also having issues syncing new information. I’ve tried logging out logging back in, manually updating it, and deleting the app. It has repeatedly said member tools not able to sync try again later or has completely frozen. I’ve barely been able to get new information based on missionaries and ministering. I’ve tried everything that’s been advised and still have a corrupted app. It was great about two months ago but now it’s not the app it was before.
Convenient & Helpful

I have ward member phone numbers and addresses at my fingertips wherever I am. Gives me option to save info to my contacts. I can easily get directions to people's homes. Makes my life easier! I only wish more people would upload their photos to help me learn names of members better, but of course that is not the app's fault. UPDATE: app is having too many problems now. Most of them time I cannot access anything within the app.

This app has never had the best performance and with the latest update it has failed miserably. It kept telling me I needed to sync it. Even with a strong WiFi signal it wasn’t syncing and would get stuck in the same screen. I restarted it several times to no avail. I thought perhaps reinstalling would help, it only made it worse. It asked me to sign in, I did. Only the update screen would show and then it would ask me to sign in again. I tried this process several times. Very disappointing app. There is no support I’ve found to report this issue.
Critical Fool

I have used and enjoyed this app for a number of years. It has been a critical tool for ward and stake callings. About 2 months ago, this app stopped working on my iPad. The iPad was old and needed toe replaced so I did. I downloaded this to my new iPad and it worked for almost a month and now all I get are empty pages without any names or phone numbers or anything! It has stopped working on my older iPhone, I will not replace that. This is crazy. I have no printed ward or stake directory and this electronic "marvel" gives me nothing! Tell me again why we all had to go digital without any printed backup? Bad choice.

The actual features of the app are great and I love the UI. However, the Touch ID feature is only enabled for a few weeks or month (not exactly sure) and then I have to sign in again. Not convenient at all. Also, when it forces me to sync it signs me out and then when I try to sign back in I am unable to do so. I tap ‘Sign in’ but nothing happens. I am unable to use the app for a while. Typically I check back a several days later and “magically” I’m able to sign in again. Very frustrating.
Hasn't worked right in ages

This app has just gotten worse and worse with every update. Either it says it's sinking and it just never syncs or today it's telling me that I'm not online yet here I am writing this review. I can never remember my password (my fault I know but I can't be the only one) it either needs to stay signed in or have me sign in every time so that the passwords remain fresh in my mind so I'm not spending a half an hour signing in whenever it needs sinking. So here I am in my car to go help someone move and I can't find her address because the app is not working... again...

I love this app. For someone that has moved around a lot, it has helped me with my callings and getting to know the ward better. Recently tried to download a contact and didn’t see the ability to actually add them. The buttons were available in previous versions, well turns out they are still there only invisible... please update in next version.
Big PAIN

Oh my word!!!! Signing into this app is the biggest and I mean biggest HASSLE in the world. Totally agree with another reviewer who said that their bank had more sensitive info than this app and yet they can always sign in. I have been locked out for some unknown reason for a month. I have to use my husband’s phone or computer if I need a phone number. I’ve sent two emails....nothing, they just come back with the same instructions I’ve done a dozen times. What a mess! Since the Church has now made this the only way we can keep in touch, something needs to be done to IMPROVE IT.
Great tool, but not at its fullest potential

I’ve used LDS tools app for many years and it’s been great and not so great. Overall it’s a wonderful tool for ward and missionary work. A few small things that frustrate me personally though is the inability to update my personal and family photo(getting married). I’ve attempted every so often on the app and computer and despite updates to the platform I’ve had no luck with updating them. I always receive a “photo upload failed. Please try again later.” When I finally went to try to use the contact us option in the settings to receive some help I received a “cannotsendemailmsg” prompt. Again, I enjoy the app, but it does need a little more work here and there!
Problem with editing information

It seems like no matter what, I have the hardest time trying to edit my info and update my photo. My photo is several years old and I try to update it and it always says a connection problem when that’s not the problem. It took me several times to update the contact information, I had to go online to change, delete the app and resign in to get it to update properly. The software needs to be rewritten for this part of the app.
Can’t update photos

I’m unable to update my family and individual photos, so they’re a couple years out of date and some of our family members don’t have photos attached to the account. I’ve been trying to switch them for over a year and I keep being told that my clerk has to change the photos. Sorry, but I’m not sending my family photos to our clerk. I should be able to change them myself.
SERIOUS BUG

I have an iPhone and an iPad. Fortunately this still works on my iPhone. On the iPad it shows me as a new user. I put in my information and sync it almost always crashes at the end. I deleted the program and reinstalled it, did a synchronization and could see that all my data was in it but it immediately asked me if I would like to use my fingerprint security, which I said yes. I touch the home button and nothing happened. I pressed again and it said "all data clear" and went back to new user mode. I then resynced it and I've had multiple crashes.
Unable to update profile pic

I have tried updating my profile picture both individual and family photo and have not been able to for over a year. My photo is very outdated. Despite attempting to change my photo numerous times each month it still doesn’t allow me to make the update. This time I was able to save but it still doesn’t update the photo in the end. Please fix.
Sync fails 3/4 of the way through and contact us link broken

I was updating the data, and realized it was not actually updating the data. I deleted the app, then reinstalled it. After the install, I will not sync. It errors 3/4 of the way through the download. Then prompts me for my password, which I have already typed like 15 times. I tried the contact is link, which apparently does nothing. On the 20th time or so, it worked, now the data that was stale before I reinstalled the app is correct.
Why is it not real time?

I don’t have any other apps that require me to sync for them to be up to date. Is there a reason at least the calendar portion cannot be updated in real time? There is often confusion in our stake about upcoming events that have been updated on the calendar, but members are unaware because they have not synced. Please consider forcing sync on a weekly basis if the calendar cannot be updated in real time.

I love and use the app every week, but now that I switched phones, I can’t login or sync. It acts like it it will start to, but then does nothing. I am hoping this is bug that the Church is already aware of and an update will be coming soon. LDS Tools has been mighty handy for our rapidly growing ward ... it would be bummer to have that anymore.
