Good movies in promo, not in the app

I didn’t see not one movie that you present in the promo. This is a lie
Crashes Several Times a Day
by Spunkmeyer on 2021/04/09 00:11
I have to restart the app several times a day because of crashes. This usually happens when deleting recordings or changing from one hub to another. Usually the first restart just results in the app being stuck on a grey screen. Often I have to kill it several times before it will finally proceed beyond the grey screen. Very disappointing since I just purchased the lifetime subscription.
It’s perfect
by Dr.JGW on 2021/04/07 07:20
There’s not a single problem I can find with this app. Plex is amazing from every angle that I use it for. (The live TV stuff is an albatross...)
No more photo sync :(
by Blzrdphoto on 2021/04/06 04:53
I absolutely love this app. I even bought a Plex pass lifetime subscription to take full advantage of it. Sadly shortly after I bought the Plex pass and an extra 12 TB hard drive for this purpose I found out that one feature I was really looking forward to now that google photos isn’t going to be free anymore was the mobile photo sync. So much for Plex being my google photos replacement. I now have to look for something else to complete that task for me.
Sleep timer

The app is amazing for some reason I can’t seem to find the sleep timer lately wish it was still there
ON OF THE BEST MOVIE APPS EVER
by ANONYMOUS170000000 on 2021/04/04 20:57
This app is SO AWSOME! I can now stream any movie for my family without having to pay for it! Kudos to the developers!👍
don’t give up
by ro6ot on 2021/04/04 16:01
folks- if you “pay once” to ‘unlock’ second number sixty-one, then your iPad, or different iPhone a year later, asks you to pay again... just scroll down, there *is* a “restore purchase” button! (and it works!! 8-)
I love my Plex more than my daughter

Cannot play a Video on a Photo library on IOS or TVOS
by Litefmfan on 2021/04/04 11:34
For the last couple of releases it has been impossible to play a video on a photo album on iOS or TVOS. When I try to play a video a ger the message: “Couldn’t retrieve the queue for this item. Please try again” This issue however doesn’t happen on Mac Os or android devices. On these types of devices the videos on Photo Libraries run smoothly.. please fix
Auto-PiP broken on iPad
by Wyldoxz on 2021/04/03 00:27
Not sure which update is the culprit, but jumping Home from inside Plex now just minimises the app and pauses playback when previously it would automatically throw the mini player onto the Home screen. Running iPadOS 14.4.2.The feature is still working on iOS 14.4.2. The app is up-to-date on both devices. Plex is the best solution for maintaining home media servers, but the lack of support is really frustrating. When I’ve tried to use the forums, my bug reports and issues have gone unresolved, which is especially disappointing since I’ve paid for PlexPass. I’m hoping reporting this bug in a review will result in a swifter solution.
Paid for the full version but still won't let me use it
by JamesMMorgan on 2021/04/02 22:16
I paid $4.99 for the ios version of plex but when I try to watch a movie on my iPad it still says "playback limit" and tries to charge me again.
Playlist rotation no longer works
by Steverdezines on 2021/04/02 13:51
Up until a few days ago, when I’d open a playlist selection upon it ending it would go to the next song, movie. In other words #2 would play following #1. That no longer works on any of my devices except for firestick and AppleTV. I’ve tried every browswer, and except for firefox on my macbook, none of them offer that feature any longer. I am not a happy camper.

Difficulty entering Profile PIN
by ArataTakú on 2021/03/31 18:33
Apple TV version needs to support standard tvOS text/number input for profile PIN (used for parental controls). This way you can use your iPhone or Siri to enter the password. The current design (number picker) allows my kids to see me choose the numbers, and therefore learn the PIN to access adult content.
I’m just lucky to have it.
by Dash the greatest on 2021/03/31 14:09
Plex is easy to go on and best for watching movies and has lots of room to keep stuff in it very interesting and I love interesting things so plex is my favorite thing to go on.
Works great!
by agroagra on 2021/03/30 16:14
Back to a 5-star review now that scrubbing is fixed. Thanks Plex team!

Please fix, and thanks for all you do. 5/12/20 - FIXED! Thanks! Old issue: Can no longer access contents of folders. Please fix.
Removing camera uploads
by TippyTipster on 2021/03/28 21:59
After months of this feature being broken, Plex apparently has decided to say “forget it” and remove the #1 reason to get a plex pass, and the main reason I have the app installed on my phone. Plex functioned as a great way to get my personal photos onto my own personal cloud server. But I guess they just decided to get lazy and ditch the feature all together. Can’t recommend plex pass to anyone anymore.
Basically spyware — has third party identifier tracking
by Isaac Gray on 2021/03/28 06:49
I pay for Plex pass and yet the app has embedded third party tracking. The devs are unethical and greedy for having third party tracking based on identifiers.

The “un-carrier” of Streaming Services
by Nike914 on 2021/03/26 22:49
Lifetime Purchase - No further Subscription. Upload your own media - Access it anywhere. Organize movies, shows, music, pictures... etc. Easy UI, plus all the extras. It makes me forget I was ever subscribed to Netflix or Hulu. Probably my favorite, yet subtle, feature ( and quite possibly an unintentional feature) is when I lock my phone and wake the screen, I simply press the play button on the Lock Screen and I can resume audio progress on my tv shows. Would prefer to just have a full-on “continue in the background” feature - but this is sufficient enough. Love having my screen off and listen to TV shows, especially those I have watched many times over. Please never get rid of the Lifetime Purchase option (or raise the price on it - currently $120). Probably one of the most attractive aspects of Plex - you can choose not to continue with a subscription plan and I’m sure it will entice more users.
Great option, difficulty with deleting individual shows
by Midwife mom on 2021/03/26 19:30
Loving using this to catch up on old shows. It’s a great option! I wish I could erase shows after I watch them. So far it erases the whole series.
I kinda like the live TV guide layout but can you fix this?
by SKREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE on 2021/03/26 12:52
I kinda like the live TV guide layout but can you fix this? When I scroll and use the live TV guide it lags horribly and it hurts my eves because it keeps shifting and lagging everywhere. And the live TV guide looks kinda sloppy and there are so much great channels but it’s so sloppy like if you touch it it will move from side to side. Can you make the layout kinda like Pluto tv? And the guide scrolls from side to side and lags as it’s doing it too. Can you fix this annoying glitch?
Going down hill
by dcbd127 on 2021/03/26 04:56
It once was a pretty decent app. But with recent changes, the navigation and UI is horrible.
Recommend it
by Joedejong.mister horror? on 2021/03/26 00:49
Last year when I downloaded the app I signed up for my free account had no problems. So far so good love the movies and shows I also listen to podcasts? And I went into the music section I couldn’t find my favorite genre of music that I love I’m a fan of metal music from heavy-metal to dust metal turn true Norwegian black metals I enjoy the genre maybe add more genres of music. But there is one problem when I go to a cast to my living room TV or my Apple TV in my basement I can’t find airplay or a Chromecast please create another update featuring AirPlay in Chromecast. That would be pretty nice to also send me notifications about new releases and recommended movies and TV shows also please add a metal section to the music section because I love DEATH Maddow music that’s my favorite type of genre. So I have to say you guys are awesome Plex is my new home for movies and TV music and podcasts and web shows keep updating keep adding more channels
Most of the features work
by theeskimo7 on 2021/03/24 16:04
Playback of media files on my devices, casting to my chromecast are working. I did a 1 month Plex pass trial to test out the phone photo backup feature and to my dismay this feature was not functioning. Would adjust this rating up to a 4-5 star if this paid premium feature was actually working.
One minute? Really?
by Soccerkiller33 on 2021/03/24 02:30
You mean to tell me that on any other platform I can watch anything I want for free... but not on my phone? Come on now.
Extremely disappointed in Plex!
by Puterdood on 2021/03/22 21:33
I really wanted Plex to work. Sadly, that is not be the case. One thing is it will not find all of my media, even when giving it the exact file path. The files are all formatted the same and will play using other apps. Another thing is the app on Apple TV crashes just by moving between shows/movies. I deleted it and reinstalled several times. There appears to a very specific procedure of navigation to avoid crashing. I am not willing to jump through such hoops. And finally, worst of all, it is extremely easy to to totally delete entire libraries of shows and movies when you simply want to remove them from Plex. There is no warning at all. Thank God I have backups!!! I would suggest just sticking with the default Apple TV app for syncing with iTunes. It works. It is simple. It’s not perfect, but not nearly as dangerous as Plex. Sorry, Plex. You can do better than this! If you are allegedly the best, then I hate to see what second best is. Fix the problems and I might give you another try. For now, I prefer to stay with simple and safe!
Plex pass

I’ve been a plex pass member for years, I love everything about it! So easy to watch my shows when I’m out of town or visiting family. The only thing that would make it better is if it came with a comic book reader.

Best “MyFlix” App With Room For Improvement
by RTM135 on 2021/03/17 15:59
Longtime PlexPass owner. Plex is the best “MyFlix” app out there with room for improvement. Their client app is ubiquitous and easy to use. And their server app is easy enough for non-techies to install and configure. Areas needing improvement are library support and data sources. Since we live in a digital world, adding other sources like books, comics, audiobooks, and music videos would be welcome. Also, it would improve the service if their data sources were brought in-house. (Anyone who has dealt with the political lunacy of TheTVdb will know what I’m talking about.)
Can’t drag to fast forward anymore so if the app messes up can’t go back to where I was

Very confusing
by cookecakess on 2021/03/16 17:13
I love plex and enjoy using it all the time. When I’m logged in on my fire TV though, it has no problem. But when I’m logged into my iOS or on a phone watching it, it always only lets me watch one minute of what I’m watching then cuts it off. There is also no way or instructions on how to log into a member account.

If you like commercials
by RayROnline on 2021/03/14 20:33
You will love this app. Commercial blocks come every 10 to 15 minutes with three or four commercials up to 60 seconds each. It’s frustrating because there is a good selection but they’re trying to grab money by over packing the spots.

Finally sprung for the lifetime pass so I could use my phone. It’s a bit underwhelming. Not much benefit to it besides unlocking mobile app. Thing doesn’t sync right with server. All my TVs do but the mobile app doesn’t update what I last played on tv so then I have to figure out where I left off.
I paid for iOS , still won’t work with local server

Can’t Play Video in Library
by DennisLo123 on 2021/03/13 01:13
Started on version 7.8.1 and latest version still didn’t fix not able to play video in Library. Got “Couldn’t retrieve the play queue for this item” message. But I can play videos in Library on my PC and Roku. Also, found out no HEIC support. I’m using this app with WD My Cloud PR2100. A bit disappointed for paying lifetime subscription.

Why did you remove sync?
by HectorAlondra on 2021/03/09 16:53
I used to be able to sync all my libraries to my app at home via wifi or cellular and now I can’t. The option was in the context menu under list mode. The option was taken away. It was the only reason why I subscribed to the Plex pass. (Very upset).
Very frustrating

Not the greatest thing
by vicenac on 2021/03/09 03:05
The idea of Plex is excellent. The execution is lackluster. All iOS apps are pretty shaky. The Apple TV buffers even if I’m streaming from my local i7. The iPhone app... photo upload never worked on. Now it does not work at all. If I download a movie or sync it I can’t find a way to delete it from my phone. Half the time the download stops att 50%. My friends have the same experience.
Brilliant
by ipodtman on 2021/03/09 00:31
That word sums it up. I’ve had Plex for years and have seen it grow and develop. Very impressive. I use the Plex daily to view my library of media. Well done.

Great Application with real promises
by JWielgosz on 2021/03/08 12:50
UnfortunatelyI really want to give this at five stars but the app crashes make it difficult. This app is my primary go to for my Plex my pass server which is fully license not the free version. Remote viewing of DVR content and store movies come at a price using this app.Over the last few versions, and a number of different devices the mobile app randomly crashes or sound loses sync over time.
The ONLY way to view anything, anywhere.
by Zippy2shoez on 2021/03/08 02:37
Well designed, well supported. If you want the best way to manage your media then look no further. Plex can play everything you are likely to need to play, including movies, music, news, podcast. All accessed from anywhere. Turn that spare computer into a media server for free, but you’ll want to move up to full paid soon !
Plex Continues to Remove Features

Excellent Streaming Media Solution
by david_kreisberg on 2021/03/06 22:50
I purchased the full version of the Plex Media Server and use the Plex app to access movies, tv shows, audiobooks, and music on my local network. The result is a very powerful and flexible app that gathers images, plot summaries, actors, etc. and puts them in a database to make the home network look and function like a streaming service. Highly recommended.
Frequently no audio
by hepcat72-1 on 2021/03/06 12:24
I've been trying out the free version and it seems like more than half the time when I try to cast to a chrome cast, there is no audio and I cannot seem to figure out how to fix it. I know it works because I can cast from the same computer running the PLEX server from the chrome browser, so the problem seems to be with the PLEX server itself or the phone app. I do not think I will subscribe sine this would be my main use case.
They need volume control
by JMAC195459 on 2021/03/05 13:56

Useless app
by Zeed m on 2021/03/05 00:22

Don’t use this app if you don’t want constant high blood pressure
by 12reviewman on 2021/03/04 12:12
Plex, revert this app to the version you had 1.5 years ago. I drive a lot and this issue still constantly happens and I’m surprised I haven’t had a heart attack yet or wrecked. This is just garbage now. music plays yes, but it will cut the audio out when you either press the home button, have on Bluetooth, on Apple CarPlay and even wired headphones. Only way to fix this is to just close out. Playlist sync doesn’t even work either, basically it’s a batch song downloader but no playlist available to use on downloaded unless u just use the all tracks option for the library. I am unsure how prefer downloaded track works either cause if this is supposed to work the way it should, the songs on the playlist I have shouldn’t just die out when wifi or cellular is out of range if I’m listening to a soundtrack that was already downloaded. If the beta version is to go from and switching back to the AppStore version. AppStore version is definitely more stable to an extent to the point it is still unstable. It just lasts 15 min longer every time you have to close out the app. WORK OUT THE ERRORS IN YOUR MOST BASIC FEATURES BEFORE EVEN CONSIDERING MOVING TO A NEW FEATURE. Forums pages isn’t helpful either cause me and others with this get left hanging with no response. Web GUI on computers is definitely a winner. But this is just sad. If the remote playback feature breaking was to just move in tidal and make people use it which I don’t ever want to. SAD Don’t get me started when the recent plex server update basically removed all song names and made the entire library the same album art.
WARNING:
by A. Chadwick on 2021/03/03 21:34
“Vibrant application background” = NO MORE BACKGROUND ART! (STUPID!!! STOP IT!!) Music: 1) “STUDIO” should read “LABEL”. This is silly. 2) albums used to show Title and Year below - now they show Artist and Title. No year?? This must be a mistake. Makes browsing my library miserable. Please bring back the feature that allows me to drag down and enlarge background art. The way it’s working now feels very broken. Not enjoying what has happened to the UI at all. Sharing: Apparently there’s a new “Shared” menu item. I’ve been testing it with my another home device. Now I have a list of shared items that won’t go away. There has to be a better way of doing this. **I want my friends to get a Notification from Plex on their phone that says something like “Bob share a song with you: Such&Such Band - Best Song Ever”, and when they tap on it, it opens Plex and goes right to the song and starts playing it.**
No cloud storage access in 2021? Terrible.
by mateoSTAR on 2021/03/03 18:44
No matter how great ur app is the lack of cloud storage makes the app useless. Even more crazy since u once had it.. It makes the app is pointless. Why would I want to deal with storing hoards of movies locally.. Please add it back.

Client Apps are horrible
by Riverstone Owner on 2021/03/02 21:32
I’ve been a premium plex user for years now. The server side of the software is “fairly” stable. The clients, on the other hand, are horrible. Plex for Android Tv rarely works. When a movie is selected, it just sits there and spins. However, using VLC to connect via upnp works flawlessly from the same android box. Plex for IOS (IPAD) will constantly crash after extended viewing. Plex for Roku seems to be the only client that will run consistently. (As of this writing anyway) I would recommend the developers spend more time on stability across the entire platform instead of adding features. Unless client issues get addressed, I’d find a different media server solution. There are numerous free media server apps out there that function better.
Pay per device now
by cheeseweezle on 2021/03/02 03:07
Plex used to be good. On android you could just use it. Now you need to pay $5 to use on an Apple device. But it streams all my ill-gotten videos fine.
Photo upload
by Warden2007 on 2021/02/26 17:56
Hello, I like what you guys are doing with Plex that's why I bought the lifetime pass. I knew it came without support, but wanted to support you guys. What swayed me to do so was the photo upload, but since version 1.15? Photo upload hasn't worked. I've tried different libraries, uninstall the app from my iPhone, tried my old Android Pixel 2 that was working and even it won't even begin the upload process. Looking at the logs a few months ago I came across some lines that said photo upload was not enabled with my subscription, this line appeared right after a line that spelled out my lifetime Plex Pass. Why is photo upload a seemingly deceased feature given no funeral?
Excellent service and an even better app

Audio issue at first try.
by susie107 on 2021/02/25 00:30
I didn’t realize Plex had a free account with some Live TV and movies etc, so when I searched for the TV series remake of Rosemary’s Baby and it said it was playing on Plex, I downloaded on my iphone and roku. Somehow it seems the one thing I want to watch has no dialogue on either platform. I’ve messed with all settings available but it’s just this particular media- can hear music and background talk or sounds like running on pavement and slamming a door but no actual character dialogue. I’ve got subtitles on so I know what they are saying, just can’t hear it. Would love for someone to check on this. Is this indicative of a glitchy app?
Camera Upload Broken

Uploading camera photos to your Plex server on iPhone is impossible. The function is broken and has been broken for years. Do not get this app if you wish to store your photos on your Plex server.

This app is really cool my family uses it a lot and I recommend getting it. They have all the shows in the world so you can buy what you want. If you are a person who hates having to take time to find a single tv show choose Plex as you solution.
Lousy
by Jeffjee on 2021/02/20 18:37
All I want is a remote for my Plex server. Ostensibly this app does that. Actually all it does is remind you constantly to upgrade and never functions as a remote. In fact after two attempts at using it my server would no longer play for more than 30 seconds. I had to uninstall this awful app for my server to work! MAYBE if you are a subscriber this app is worth it. Otherwise don’t waste your time since all you’ll get are entreaties to pay and no functionality

Breaking features of iPad on purpose
by Charlie_22222 on 2021/02/16 11:42
This paid app does not let you stream to speakers but iPad natively does (any audio, system wide). So the developers in their infinite greediness have decided to break that so it would not work.

Really!?
by _SemperFi_81 on 2021/02/15 08:19
It’s a good app. But is it worth that much? I don’t think so, it doesn’t even play a lot of files. It says it can play DTS and I have a few videos with DTS sound and it doesn’t even play it! I use my computer to upload the files and it plex on my tv to check that the videos where uploaded properly. Then I turn off the tv and computer, I then use my iPhone to watch them and I get a message that the app can be used as a remote because I have exceeded my use. I got that even when I first installed the app on my iPhone. Fix the DTS decoder and then we’ll talk about how much the app is worth and what not... I would do the lifetime pass, but, 149.99 and still having trouble with the DTS decoder... when is the DTS decoder going to get fixed?

I really love my Plex app so I can watch and record live TV. It’s the best storage for my digital library. The interface is decent. However, when there’s a technical problem, it can be challenging. There is no technical support and you have to rely on your own research.

It is supremely easy to set up your own media server. 1000% worth it to pay for the 1 time activation on mobile. As a person with a couple terabytes (modest for some) of media, I obviously can’t fit that on a phone, and this is the PERFECT solution.

Add double-tap to rewind/ff
by Drewt_my_horn on 2021/02/02 07:14
The "go back 10 seconds" button is right next to the "previous episode/movie" button, and more toward the middle of the screen, where it's harder to reach. The devs should add the same "double-tap to seek" feature that Netflix, Amazon, YouTube, and everyone else have. Also please stop playing the theme song for a show when I'm browsing for an episode to watch. Playing sounds without user initiation is a Web 1.0 mistake. Gets three stars for working consistently with my friend's server and allowing picture-in-picture. And the UI outside of the player is nice. Update: lowered from 3 stars to 2 because it can't handle pausing and resuming if the screen locks. The app freezes and you have to restart it to resume what you were watching if you want to, say, take a bathroom break. The more I use it the more broken this app seems. Update 2: lowering from 2 stars to 1 because there's so much lag going from full screen to picture-in-picture and back, which isn't present using the mobile browser player. Really got very little for my $5, can't recommend this app.

Plex is the beat
by AngryAlexG on 2018/12/29 18:11
I love Plex for it’s beautiful organization and easy to use interface. Having almost all my media in one place has always been the dream and Plex has done that for me (for about 80% - still missing native audiobook support and support for eBooks). Having full control of my own personal media cloud and server has been incredible. The movie and show ratings from Rotten Tomato are awesome and being able to watch a trailer of something is convenient if someone wants a quick synopsis. I love being able to put all our childhood videos converted from VHS on my own cloud and give access to my family to see any of the embarrassing and amazing home videos anytime. ***DEVS: Would love to see a audio only version for Apple Watch for streaming or offline usage to listen to podcasts, music, audiobooks - Audible does this now which has been amazing. Being able to listen to Plex media with only a watch and bluetooth headphones would be a game changer. Also native audiobook support and support for eBooks would basically round out any media needs I could possible want to have in one app! Love what the Plex teams does and always looking to see what they’ve recently added. More than happy to be a part of the Plex Pass Lifetime member. Keep up the amazing work!
Local server connections
by elgrego1939 on 2019/08/24 07:52
I have always had trouble with the iOS versions of this app, even though I’m only connecting to a local server. The app on my Roku has no difficulty connecting to the same server. It is extremely frustrating. I am now completely unable to connect to the server from my iPad, despite having tried logging out and back into the app, logging out and using a wait list of local network connection, deleting the app and re-downloading it, deleting all three instances of the iPad app from my list of allowed devices in my account, etc. For some inexplicable reason, my Plex account has now decided that my iPad app is also a server, so some of the other client apps now list two entries for my iPad as servers. Also, when my home Internet isn’t working and I can’t go online, even though my Plex server is on the same local network/router as Plex app on my phone, iPad, and TV, none of them are able to access the server. They all say that the server is unavailable. My SMB file sharing on the same Mac at the Plex server works fine, so it’s not a problem with my local network. I would think that playing files in Plex over the local network would not be affected by an Internet outage… I’ve had so many problems with the iOS apps that I don’t see how the people at Plex hope to entice me to purchase a subscription when I can’t even really use the features that a subscription affords. The app is nice when it works, but far too often it doesn’t really work.
Great App! But What is With The Issues?
by Jay8307 on 2019/04/15 02:52
I have been a PlexPass member for years now and I couldn’t be happier. However, lately playback has been terrible. For example, if I shuffle anything a CD, a playlist, my library whatever I get this weird issue where two songs will just start playing at once. To fix it I usually have to stop the track(s) and either skip back a track or skip forward. Then one of the two songs will play properly. In addition, sometimes when I go to play a song in a playlist or CD (anything with multiple tracks) sometimes the track will not play. It will instead skip right to the next song and no matter what I do it will not play. The track is fine though because I can play it by accessing the file directly (not through Plex). Lastly, ever since this offline browsing thing was introduced it has been glitchy. If I want to access my files on my server I usually have to toggle it on and off a few times before my library will show up. It works the same for if I want to access tracks synced on my phone too. Love the thought of being able to toggle, but has to be a better way. What ever happened to just clicking in the upper left corner?
Almost perfect...

For a long time, I couldn't find fault with this media app. It looks amazing and is extremely flexible and scalable. I use it at home on a Mac as the server and am able to run an Apple TV with its beautiful interface. My most irritating pair of bugs is with the iOS (iPadOS) app. When I'm watching content on my iPad, subtitles are shown when they shouldn't be. They show up as "OFF" in the settings, but they're most definitely on. The only way to get them to go away is to turn them on, then turn them off again. HOWEVER, after turning them on, the timing for tapping the required menu to turn them off again is very important, because there can be no subtitles present on the screen when the video is paused to turn subtitles off or that subtitle will be present at the bottom of the screen for the rest of the video, or until this whole maneuver is attempted again. Very distracting and an irritating bug to say the least. Most shows have a minute or two of recaps, so it's pretty much all nonstop dialogue (subtitles). This all being said, the Plex team has created an AMAZING media environment for the user. This level of quality is what every media company should aim for. I'm sure once the folks at Plex discover this bug, they'll be able to squash it in short order.
My BEST APP EVER
by austinpatrick on 2019/12/27 12:54
I Was looking for a means to view my video library and found Plex to my liking. I can set up my library to watch movies as if I were back in the old days where Saturdays was an outing to go to the marquee at 12 noon to watch previews, three cartoons, the news reel, and two two movies . That took up five hours in the old days at the RKO THEATER. I can now reproduce that wonderful experience and go to the head without missing the story by hitting the pause button. The developers deserve a great praise for their hard work. Update December 2019 I now have over 3000 movies ; TV, AND home movies in my plex library, I also have over 4000 music files and 8000 personal photos that I scanned in from old album books and pictures lying around in trunks , paper bags and boxes. At any time I can access any photo, or video in seconds to show friends and family. What is nice about plex is you can consolidate your entire visual LP records old tapes and 45 rpm records and auditoria history in one app. I have my plex on a WESTERN DIGITAL 10 Terabyte pr2100 NAS DRIVE using RAID 2 so that I will always have a back up in case something goes wrong. I also backup my plex library to a separate 10 TB drive unplugged and stored in another place. My kids and grandkids can always review our family history at any time. And by the way! They can down load videos and pictures to their phones from plex to show their friends or watch them on the plane when they travel. Great App.
Needs some TLC
by hiCameron on 2019/01/28 19:39
I love Plex but the iOS app can use some more attention. I don’t allow my server to be exposed externally so I use the offline sync feature for when I’m away. Now, whenever I open the app it will start in offline mode like I left it before (I can see the big red banner) but it will attempt to connect to my server still. I’ll pick from the list of sources in the top left corner but it only shows my server as an option and it’s offline. To get around this, you have to open preferences and click the offline toggle 2 or 3 times usually before you can access your offline content. Another issue is that it frequently crashes when I pause the music with my headphones, I’ll unlock it and have to relaunch the app. It’s a good app, but not a great experience. I’ll be happy to rate it higher if the first issue will get fixed. EDIT: new update, unfortunately worse in performance. Same issues stated above but now includes that for whatever reason if I pause my offline music or get a phone call, then go back to resume, the music just stops playing. Sometimes the scrubbing bar moves as if it is, sometimes not. But hitting the play/pause buttons don’t do anything so I must kill the song and play a different one. I really love Plex but this app is going downhill.
Update is lacking...again
by musiclover500 on 2018/11/20 23:57
I usually don't leave feedback regarding updates, but I must in this case... I'm a big fan of Plex, and mainly use it on Roku and IPad. I am extremely disappointed that the watch later feature was discontinued recently AGAIN which I used everyday! It was helpful to browse tv plugins on the iPad and add episodes to watch later......to then watch later on the roku....since the roku has NEVER had this feature since Plex was born. Please bring back the watch later feature asap, and please add this feature to Roku too! Also, I am happy with the new podcasts feature but would love a listen later feature for that too! I do not like the webisodes feature and don’t care to see it but there is no way to remove it? Still need tweaking with customization options. Plex is fantastic overall, but I'm giving 3 stars this time, because an update should not keep subtracting from the user enjoyment. Common sense says make things more user customizable, so people can choose what they want to keep and get rid of what they don’t want to see....and with as few clicks as possible too! Please fix what is lacking now, but once was there to enjoy.....for the 2nd time!!!
The worst software in existence.
by Frogrates on 2019/06/24 01:29
No other program for any computer of any kind has more than 1% of the bugs afflicting Plex. I was a premium user for one month and one month only; though it was only $5, I resent it deeply. I joined the premium in order to transfer files; I tried to transfer a file; three days later, it was not yet 50% transferred, so I canceled and transferred it via OneDrive; it took 27 seconds. This is ALL due to the Plex developers’ monumental stupidity, changing the files’ formats rather than just making their software read multiple formats. Those who praise Plex have failed a rudimentary intelligence test; you could upload your files and play them in VLC or similar software in less than 1% of the time, with less than 1% of the hassle. In addition, there’s the insane fact that the apps have no button to update a library. Add a video, wait six hours (if you’re lucky), and it will appear in your library. You cannot manually do this. MANY people have complained about this design flaw on Plex’s forums; official responses have LIED and claimed that no one has raised the issue previously, when in fact there are a dozen threads stretching back years. All in all, if you’re using Plex, stop and find a better program, which is ALL OF THEM.
Good ideas with bad development
by Abscission on 2020/06/10 05:36
This app can be great when it works and when they aren’t removing features that have been there for years. Several versions have seen end of life support with many bugs still remaining. You used to be able to swipe left or right between songs when listening and now you have to hit an actual button to skip a song, why remove a feature that wasn’t broken? I have a lifetime subscription and the developers are an absolute joke. Literally each new update breaks something else and their support structure is nonexistent. Smart playlists are broken when locally synced to devices and have been for awhile. Alternate artwork that has been changed and locked can revert back automatically even when locked just by playing that content. Forum mods say this won’t happen and yet it does bringing me back to their terrible support structure. It’s time consuming to deal with the many bugs that exist and continue to show up with each release. There are problems that were reported by multiple people in 2015 for example and the issue remains, five years later. I bought a lifetime subscription and wish it had the support it deserves because it definitely doesn’t.
Works and works well
by MajorHavoc on 2020/11/25 08:32
Best solution to cataloging and playing media across many platforms there is. With a premium subscription and PlexCloud, one can watch videos from just about anywhere you can get a decent connection. While the interface does take some time to get used to, and the Plex folks insist on changing it all the time, it functions well and actually manages watching or listening for you in a very helpful way, including remembering what you have seen or heard, and continuing in the right places when you come back to something in progress. And the Plex people are quick to address bugs and issues, and listen to suggestions for improvements. Just finished a trip to Italy and Germany, and had access to my media the whole time. In addition, Plex’s database of images, sounds, titles, and cover art make the interface beautiful and helpful. The lifetime PLEX subscription was the best decision for me. And no, I do not work for the company, and they did not pay me to say this. Just very pleased with how well this software works.

Missing my easy access across the bottom...
by KingFresh88 on 2019/11/25 13:45
I love Plex. It’s always been great (with jinks here and there). But the last major update to the app took away my menu across the bottom and replaced it with a side menu that I can only access when I’m on the home screen. Here’s an example of why this is so annoying: I primary use the Plex App on iOS for music. So if I go to an artist > album > track. Then from there decide to go back to the artist > similar artist > new artist > album > track, and then decide to hit the search button > search another artist > choose album> track, then decide actually I want a different song, so hit search > track name and then decide, I wanna go back to the main Music menu, I can’t just hit Music. I have to navigate back > back > back x 100 until I finally see the hamburger menu on the left and can select Music. That’s incredibly annoying. Before it was easy to just hit Music at the bottom and go back to where I started without issue. If anything let me access the main menu without having to go back...
Best Media Server
by Bossfuji on 2017/10/02 18:43
I've been using Plex as a Media Server and iOS app for over 5 years now. Both the server and app complements each other and very easy to use. The app has features such as sync which allows you to watch movies or TV shows on your local device without needing internet access. You can configure sync to auto download any number of unwatched episodes for a TV Series. So let's say for you have Season 5 of TV show '24' for 4 unwatched episodes synced and your iPad has Eps 8-11 downloaded. You can be on an airplane and watch Eps 8 & 9. You get to your hotel and sync up again. The app will delete Eps 8-9 since they were watched and download Eps 12 & 13 since they are the next unwatched Eps. So this configuration will keep a rotating 4 unwatched episodes of '24' on your local device. The app also displays metadata (Title, Year, recap, actors, directors, posters, etc.) of the movies or TV Shows.
AirPod connection needs attention
by pilchak1 on 2019/01/08 20:13
After months of going back and forth, I finally took the plunge and paid full price for the Lifetime Plex Pass. I must say, i was immediately disappointed by the poor interfacing with my AirPods. In particular, if I pause the music by a double tap to my AirPod, and the phone goes to sleep before I want to restart the music, the app will not play music to the AirPods again without closing and rebooting the app. To be explicit, connectivity is not restored by a double tap of the AirPod when the phone is off, on but on the lock screen, on and logged into the phone but not on the app, or even when logged back into the phone with the app open. Furthermore, opening the app and pushing play will cause the progress bar to advance but there is still no music playing. Please address this in a future update. As another suggestion, there also needs to be a less clunky way to switch between online and offline browsing mode — maybe assume if no server is available default to offline mode?
Doesn't work as well as it used to
by anon0913 on 2020/01/11 21:17
I love Plex, but it seems to be getting less stable. The iOS app especially has been way more glitchy than it used to be, but the desktop stuff, both server and player, isn't running as smoothly anymore either. My hardware is all a bit dated, but it should still be plenty adequate. On my 4th gen iPad, the Plex app crashes frequently and the video often stutters and its been getting progressively worse. I think some of the more recent updates helped some with the crashing, but the stutters have gotten worse. I would prefer to not transcode files for playback as my Plex server is running on my primary computer and I don't want to tie up the resources and it doesn't solve all the issues anyway. VLC for iOS handles the files better, so I use that when Plex fails me, but Plex has the far superior browsing interface. VLC plays more smoothly, only rarely stuttering under very heavy network or drive activity, has better audio boost functionality, etc.
Great App
by Karther on 2017/12/16 20:55
Love this app. It has what I need for using my data and getting it anywhere. I don't understand the need to have a Plex pass I don't use this feature as it is not needed. I do think however that the Plex makers or any app or program designers should ever withhold the ability to have parental control. This feature is a security feature to make sure no children ever get what they should have and should be a default item in any app. When this becomes a standard non plex pass feature Ill give 5 stars. Its just the right thing to do. Beyond that all features are great app works like a charm. I took another star for not having the ability to have plex find all my movies. Vob and a few other standard movie types when ripped Plex did not find and i have to now convert 400+ films to a mode plex will use. Silliness. It should at least do what XBMC already does. As Most that use plex also use xbmc for hone use since the XBMC interface is better for home use and streaming plex is best for. Ill return that star when it does other formats also.
App free when you get Plex pass - WORTH IT! Best media server and app to pull plug
by NCJaZz on 2018/10/18 22:03
I purchased the lifetime Plex Pass. The best a/v decision I’ve made. I wish the sync process was easier for offline listening and watching FOR MY KIDS but for me it allows for granular control of kbps rate per song. Interface for me as a technologist is very much self driving and in-play. I think i paid around a bill for the lifetime Plex pass a few years ago and it’s more than paid for itself. The app is free for Plex pass subscribers (monthly yearly or lifetime pass) but even for those who don’t do pass the cost of you have access to a Plex media server with a decent sized media dB is worth the cost to get all the extras. We added a couple of homerun boxes and killed cable which is saving us almost a bill / 100 Per month alone so Plex has been incredible for us at home and at the office and when on the road.
Loving Plex
by Invest a little on 2019/05/07 15:52
I love Plex and it has given the chance to explore all the media I had but was previously buried in stacks of CDs and DVDs. Bought a lifetime pass years ago,so glad I did. Having said that, the current iOS app and Plex server have some seriously annoying “features”. Selecting repeat a track in the iOS app will sometimes repeat it, but more often than not, it doesn’t and stops playing anything else afterwards, meaning you have to restart the play queue. It mixes together playing several tracks at once. This does not happen on the web app. Playlists on the Plex server sometimes get wiped out. The playlist name is still there, just nothing in it. When you have hundreds of items in the playlist, it’s impossible to recreate. These items have been posted to the Plex forum and others have the same issue, Plex haven’t addressed them.
Despite glitches, still the best there is UPDATE
by H3yd on 2018/10/19 12:22
I'm a lifetime PlexPass member; I use Plex's various incarnations across tons of devices. Yes, every now and again something goes awry, but to paraphrase Louis CK, "You try building it and making it perfect all the time!" It works 99.9% of the time for 99.9% of everything. Having worked in software development, I can understand how impossible it is to foresee every possible iteration and challenge, but Plex is incredibly stable and reliable. UPDATE: The app is basically broken on iOS 12/iPhone X. Anytime I’m in portrait mode, the close/minimize controls are not accessible, which makes it impossible to send content via Chromecast. Even when in landscape mode, the controls seem barely functional. This has been the case ever since I upgraded to iOS 12, and is extremely frustrating.
Almost perfect!
by Arthur Dent ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ on 2019/04/06 16:36
For me, the Plex app is almost perfect. I am currently on a 30-day trial and I already know what crucial annoyances are going to stop me from going full (or even lifetime) subscriber. 1. Their WebOS app is way behind the rest. For TV, you cannot use the guide, which makes the normal TV viewing pretty much impossible. 2. Argh! The track list unavailability in FLAC. Brings back the memories when you had to fast forward a cassette tape to find your next track on the album, or go ahead and listen to the entire album. No easy way to go to a particular song (or even see it, as you will be just looking at the album), 3. Problems with remote access cutting out in 2-3 seconds after enabling. It is super buggy and no amount of their troubleshooting worked for me. These three issues are critical enough to dissuade me from upgrading and will be sticking with free version for now. I know there are lots of people who want to make Plex their primary DVR/TV viewing app but can’t for the above mentioned (1) reason. I know there are lot of audiophiles who wish to have Plex as their primary player/server but for the above mentioned reason (2) they just can’t. I really hope devs take a note and address these crucial issues. I don’t know what else in this platform needs more urgent attention from the feature point of view - it has all the bells and whistles.
Plex in the early days, was GREAT!
by BelleTunes on 2020/12/04 06:37
Now days (2020), Plex is more interested in the “extras” feature than they are in taking care of the Library independents; the customer-base that got them where they are now: Movie rippers and Music lovers with large collections who were looking for a great place to put their stuff, and play it too. In those early days, no one could beat Plex; hands down, they were the best game; and for a while there, the Only game. And for the record, I am a Lifetime Plexer since 2015. I was a true Plex believer and follower. I drank the Plex koolaid. I was in all the way. I was (still am) a Lifer! Then, I noticed my nighttime videos stopped playing during the night. I’d wake up and the TV would be on screensaver and not the virtual fireplace i had put on the previous night. This happened over and over. What happened? So I got to work... After several hours (days) of research online, and delete-reinstall-repeat; I finally just gave up and looked for “Plex alternative”. So, now I use Infuse6 Pro on my iPad and AppleTV. No server required. But i still keep a Plex server on my NAS for old times sake. It’s still a great way to “Library” everything. I’ll always love Plex, but they don’t really care about us little guys anymore, so i moved on and found an alternative that really knows how to play Playlists. Movies, videos and music too, but my thing was/is Playlists. All-night playlists.
Would have been a 5 before
by bexn01 on 2018/07/02 05:02
I spent a lot of time organizing my library and now it’s frustrating as all get out to get to my content. Please add an ALL option and not just an All for TV, Movies and Music. Plex just became unusable for me. I’ve been using Plex from almost the beginning back when it was Mac only. I was one of the first people to sign up for a lifetime pass. Please don’t make me regret this. I don’t want to use a different client to view my content but it looks like I’m going to need to until they fix this problem. I’m really not happy that they didn’t give us a toggle to the old format or at least a way to view ALL content and then switch to folders. [If you’re in the same boat, please consider checking out Infuse 5. It seems to work seamlessly with Plex Server and keeps it in folder layout. You’ll also be able to add Dropbox, OneDrive and Google Drive. I’ve been recommending Plex & Plex Server for years. I never thought I’d be suggesting folks use a different client, in a Plex app review no less!]
needs some fixes
by kayla😀🦄🌺❄️🍭🍬🎧🎤💎 on 2020/07/26 04:20
I have been using Plex for about 1 1/2 years now and it has been great! The video quality is good, especially considering all the other apps i have used in the past. Sound is great, but I still have one problem that i have seen other reviews mention as well. I go away a lot on trips and stuff so i usually download and sync the movies i want to watch. As soon as i click it, the movie would not show and would just keep loading and glitching and blacking out. I don’t understand why because usually when i download stuff in the past, it has worked fine but suddenly this is happening and it gets very frustrating to watch a screen load when i want to watch something. I think what this app need is some attention to fix some other issues, importantly this one. Please get this fixed, I really love Plex, i love to use it and if you can just check out the download and sync maybe make an update to help the issue, that would be great! Thank you! - Mikayla🤍
iOS app is not well designed
by Datawrangler on 2018/10/03 05:49
I have owned Plex for about 4-5 years now, and the media server is great. It’s very easy to set up and manage. The iOS app, however, is not very good. As an example, it does not sync music very well. I had all my music synced to my phone; then one day it was all gone. No error message or notification of what had happened. 5000 songs were deleted off my phone. Syncing has been problematic since day one. The other problem is with the UI. The buttons are tiny, even on an iPhone XS. They tried to cram too much on the screen and made the play and pause buttons so small I have to have my glasses on to see them. Since it doesn’t integrate with Siri well, I have to pull over if I want to search for songs while I’m driving. Playlists also don’t sync between devices so I have to set up new lists on each one. In my opinion, the whole app needs a complete redesign. I’ve tried to make it work, but I’m going to be looking for another app to use to play my music on my phone.
Great app but dont expect it to keep working well.
by Bobhffhvderhg on 2020/09/23 20:05
Im writing this review on sept 23, 2020. The app has change quite a bit from when it was first released. The organizational changes have been bad here and there but it still did everything quickly. That is no longer the case. I have multiple 4k apple tv boxes and they all are experiancing performance issues after the last couple of updates. Laggy, slow, unresponsive interface which require a reboot to fix. I have never had to reboot my apple tvs with such regularity. In the past i have been able to wait weeks or months before intentionally rebooting one. (I have automatic updates off... so no other reboots barring poweroutages etc.). I recommended apple tvs for their solid performance with plex but it seems that is one more thing they have abandoned in the pursuit of having animated startup logos and other foo foo nonsense. They just seem to want to add new features no one wants while detracting from the features everyone needs.
Really does seem like magic, but no composer tag
by MW Huntster on 2019/04/23 13:41
I installed Plex on my PC and iPhone for a while because I found other ways to stream music from my hard drive to be unreliable or complicated. You install Plex and it quickly finds all media files on your computer - no need to direct it to folders. All the music on my drive appears on my iPhone with tags intact. All album covers are shown, and each artist now has a helpful little bio. This is all with absolutely no effort on my part. Streaming on a wifi network from the computer to the phone, and from the phone to the stereo using Airplay, always works without a hitch. The user interface is attractive, powerful, well-organized, and easy to use. Everything happens smoothly and promptly - no pauses or glitches. The problem is with classical music: there is no composer tag available! I switched to MediaMonkey.
WHY? PLEX, WHY??? This Update is COUNTER-INTUITIVE
by Regan83 on 2018/06/16 05:13
For iOS Plex Media Player App, I haven't check my computer or TV Plex Apps yet::: I truly hate writing update reviews… So let me start by stating, the Plex Media Server and it's organization magniloquence is unmatched for personal media organization and management! HOWEVER, Plex, why did you remove the "Browse" feature??? I'm sure many geeks like me are super organized when it comes to our media library. I like to go to my playlist section or browse through what libraries I've added to see what I'd like to view or what playlist I have available to watch. I have at least 3TB of vids, cartoons, anime, movies and tv shows all organized within your brilliant Plex Server... Now!!!, I can't just go to a section I'd like to browse through, as it was before the update. Podcasts are not as important, everybody does podcasts. Plex is supposed to be for the personal/private media lover who simply wants to watch what is esoteric to them and watch anywhere at anytime without having to go through leaps and bounds to reach his/her favorite playlists... Please RE-ADD the browse feature. It was THE BEST. Now, Plex for iOS is a hassle. Please help, thank you so much!!! Otherwise PLEX is truly awesome! ~ A Loyal PAYING customer!
Great app, clunky interface
by Dalwan Daddy on 2018/12/17 12:56
This app is my go-to app for watching videos, so, I want to give it five stars, and I wish I could give it another half star because it's that good. There's only one small complaint, and I hope the developers are reading this, because I know I'm not the only one that has mentioned this flaw. Please let us access our playlists from the home screen! It's more of an inconvenience than anything, but, I have to find the part of the library that the playlist is in, then the section, then the playlist. I know, it's a very minor inconvenience, and it used to be on the home screen, but I feel it would make this a five star app. Other than that, I can access all of my videos from my server anywhere I am and the quality is fantastic.
Flakey and invasive
by Markdown Pro on 2018/09/24 02:19
I want to like this app and the Plex server, I really do. After all I paid good money for both when first impressions/tests were good. Since then there have been many updates, and it has been more frustrating than usable. Having some experience debugging both software and network issues, I’ve spent way too much time trying to understand what this app is doing or rather failing to do, which causes it to frequently stall or not even connect to the server within our home network. Time I would have rather spent actually enjoying our media. My #1 complaint is that it stalls or buffers so much that it is unusable. Our LAN and all devices are plenty fast so congestion or speed of connectivity isn’t the problem. #2 WOW! This app calls home a lot. I think that might actually be the root of the problems. It even authenticates with an external service when all we want is for it to play local content. UI wise, it looks nice, but ultimately it needs to be able to play our content. For that we found MrMC, which is just superb and rock solid. Plus, MrMC seems to respect user privacy and rarely makes external requests... if ever. Regardless I keep revisiting this app to see if updates have made it more usable because the UI is nice, and because I paid so much for it. As of sept. 23, 2018, it still stalls on most content, while the same files play perfectly in MrMC.😑
What happened to being able to preview the trailer of the movie before you watch ?
by Texaggies on 2019/08/05 10:43
I always loved to watch the trailer of the movie before picking one. I could decide if I really wanted to watch it or not. For some reason on the tv ap and the mobile app this has gone away. I love plex don’t get me wrong. But I purchased the lifetime upgraded thinking this would come back. And I think the only thing it actually did was let me put random trailers before the movie like in the movie theater. I don’t want those trailers. I would like to see the trailer preview of the movie selected come back. Please let me know if there is some setting I am missing. I’ll still give the app a 5 but I would really appreciate if someone let me know if I am missing something.
Improved accessibility
by Dinky Donky 42 on 2020/09/18 00:35
I love plex! It has had some accessibility problems, but I can see the team is working to make it more accessible, specifically in regards to voiceover. One part that still needs to be worked out in regards to accessibility with voiceover is within the player screen. If you open a video to watch, the player controls disappear after a few seconds. On most players I can just put the Focus on the playing video and tap to bring them back up. For some reason though on plex, you have to turn off voiceover tap the video, and then quickly turn it back on and try tapping play, pause, fast forward or whatever action you are trying to get to. Besides getting stuck within the player screen, this is still one of my favorite app’s to watch TV with the family.
UI update makes content harder to find and the app harder for kids
by A.Nutron on 2018/06/21 15:50
The new UI is much harder to navigate than previous versions. In addition to just taking more effort to go to specific collections and servers, it’s nearly impossible for kids to use. Where previously my 6 year old could easily find her things, now the UI is completely useless to her. As an adult, it’s cumbersome and clunky, and as a kid, it’s broken. Stay close to your roots here. Make it easy to quickly navigate to specific collections on a specific server. Put some movie icons on collections to make them visually distinctive to require less reading. Make pushed content a browsing experience that one chooses to experience rather than the default. Don’t make this more complicated.
An app worth paying for
by Sovereign007 on 2017/12/15 06:08
I have been a Plex user (free) for a few years until today when I finally become a Plex Pass (lifetime) user. I absolutely love this app and have gotten others on the bandwagon too. Once I upgraded my router I have had great streaming in my house and it wasn’t so bad with the severely outdated one too. I run an older i3 4gb ram wireless N computer and I can stream pretty high rate 1080p with little to no issues and if I have some I just dumb down the stream so the computer can handle it all. As of now I can stream and control the quality of the stream when I am away from home. My iPad Pro loves Plex and so do I. Thank you for the consistent updates to make Plex the best entertainment app and (home network/computer) software one could ever need!
Incredible utility when paired with a TV tuner!
by cohenjor on 2018/10/11 02:25
I’ve used Plex for years and have always loved how easy it works. It’s amazing how I can just click a button and have a piece of media automatically transcode and download to my phone to watch on a plane. But now that I’ve paid for Plex Pass and paired it with my server which has a TV tuner, it’s like magic. I can tap a button to view live TV, and under the covers, Plex is tuning my server at to the right channel, encoding video on the fly, and streaming that live video to me from home thousands of miles away to Hawaii over a crappy hotel Internet connection. And it just works. Add all that to the stuff Plex has done for years, like serving my music and syncing locally. It’s a must have for any media enthusiast.
Top 100 French Movies
by Waitin' For That Pension on 2020/12/25 09:13
As in all romantic movies, the story is burdened with physically alluring actors. The ego lets imaginary love blossom naturally when, in fact, the delicate and talented girl is raped by a rude and simple-minded rube who holds the fate of herself and her father in his hands. Stockholm syndrome is well defined here. An equally eloquent story of first love is also told.... Unless you’re flustered in French I suggest you go through once and then go through again just watching the cinematography. The dialogue still informs the moods well, even if you only hear the inflections.... The ire of the French public towards this film kept it locked away from cable and on-demand for decades. In fact, there were numerous fascists in every combatant nation of WWII. That the Nazis wooed the French and Italians empowered those nations’ worst.
In for a lifetime
by VandwellerDave on 2020/04/23 01:53
Full disclosure, I’m a lifetime member. I wasn’t always, but I was monthly for over a year before going all in. I try to get as much information about a product before I deem it worthy of occupying room on one of my servers. After narrowing down my choices to three, I see by my notes that there was only one that made conscious, constant efforts to improve the experience for the person using it to manage all of a ridiculously huge catalog of movies and music. Now they offer live streaming of their own content. It’s really the only entertainment choice for me, and not just for a lockdown. I have access to my entire connection on any and every device that I own. I HIGHLY recommend Plex to all my geeky friends and coworkers.
Lacks music sync features
by nciau on 2020/11/28 02:17
Plex pass lifetime user: I sync music to my phone from a NAS. I can sync easily to my phone but when I play a song on my phone from the synced music library inside the plex app, there’s no way to delete the song if I don’t like it. There’s also no way to delete songs before they are synced either. There’s also no way to swipe right or left to go to the next track or go back. It’s a really basic music player. I can’t create playlist either or rate songs from the synced songs library. I can create playlist and rate songs when I view the tracks before I sync but there’s no way to manage it after its been synced which is stupid because it gives me filter options for rating inside the sync library. I tried rating a song and then syncing them again, and it didn’t work. The music player before and after they are synced needs major improvement.
I am I love…but
by kitty😺😻 on 2020/12/23 02:44
I love PLEX but when I watch a movie there is a add and it has a bad word but you are probably saying (sarcastically) oh no a bad word??? That is so bad for a nine year old. So ya it is bad for a nine year old . But other then that I LOVE PLEX all of the new movies come out on PLEX so you don’t hAve to buy them for like $100 (maybe I was a little sarcastic) a few week few weeks before I put on this movie called Ella enchanted but instead of playing Ella and enchanted and played this random movie and it was really violent and I fast forward it so that it wouldn’t be on my continued to watch but it was really scary and my baby sister got scared even though all that bad stuff happened later everything was fine and fixed so yeah you should get PLEX!
🛂“Something Went Wrong Playing Your Media...
by dataBANG on 2019/09/22 00:23
Like my title? If you cast, it’s something you’re going see a lot when the Plex app goes “dumb” usually when you wake up your iOS device to scrub to a later time or forward to the next track. In this “dumb” mode, the app cannot update the movie’s position and appears to forget or reestablish the selected Plex player while on your screen is the last position when your device (probably) fell asleep and the scrubber is unresponsive and then you get to the point where it simply cannot play and you get an error message. The fastest stop gap is to change the player, and switch back. It’s just a whole lot of noodling for a 5-star app. Sure the system is very convenient but it’s implementation is shoddy, at least on iOS. The Plex developers have done good to build a media jukebox but I’m sick of being annoyed with the same problem on multiple devices.
Great media player but live tv needs work
by Mrsco on 2020/02/03 02:37
Everything works pretty well but the guide on live tv is super janky. Leave the app in background and come back to the guys some hours later and it starts freaking out trying to figure out the time slots to show not letting you select any channels. You should allow the channel numbers to be tapped to be selected. Not just the show titles. Also the guid should be able to be overlayed on top of the full screen video stream playing in background so you can choose channels while still having a fullscreen view of what’s playing. This app was 5 stars before they added the live tv stuff but now it seems they bit off more then they can chew. Give some love and attention to live tv and the guide and this will be 5 stars again.
Please fix the Apple TV app
by MattcoAZ on 2021/01/25 05:40
I decided to jump-in and get the tv tuners to take more advantage of my Plex server along with the Plex premium subscription. Now lest start with the 5 stars and take away one star for each issue below. As they get fixed I’ll add a star. I’m struggling with the Apple TV app. The guide doesn’t jump to the current date and time. Ie. if I open the guide at 2pm. Then later I open the guide up at 7pm it will still show the 2pm guide but it’s all grey out. I wait a few moments for it to refresh to the current time but no good. I have to right scroll to the current time multiple times until I find the current time. Then I can select programs/Channel to watch. Also, when I select a recorded show. It spins and spins and spins then errors out. If I open the same show on my phone and stream it so it works, then I can go to the Apple TV and stream the show. I don’t know why it’s doing this. Why does it take forever to scan through all the photos? I would think it would generate thumbnails for all the photos so I can surf through them quickly, not have it take 20 seconds to refresh the 5 photos on the screen, then I scroll to the next group of photos and have to wait another 20 seconds for those photos to refresh. I get spoiled by the apple photos app. Make it work like that.
Better and better
by Uniquer2 on 2020/10/31 18:50
I used Plex for years until my server crashed and I switched to Netflix for about 2 years and Netflix has a tendency to show english dubbed shows and no way to turn off seeing them, which is annoying. I wanted something better with more control so I bought a cheap pc for my plex server and torrent download manager and I gotta say that I’m impressed with how well plex performs since I’ve been away. The facebook groups are super helpful as well and the live tv works better than I expected. I’m probably going to subscribe to plex pass just to support them and the added features will be nice. Great job to the plex team for all they have done to make this app work so well and all for free
I use Plex every day! Love it!
by Mediafreaky on 2020/05/08 23:45
Plex is one of the best Media Apps out there! I use Plex every day! Love it! I've been using Plex for years now. I watch all my tv shows and movies on Plex on my iPad, iPhone, laptop and of course on my tv's too! The “On Deck” feature is great. We’re my next tv series episode sits and waits. Now PLEX added older movies, web video clips and news to watch! Kind of cool! Plex as my main media streamer. It's easy to add you video files. I only wish that there could be a way to have PLEX automatically use my Filefactory video storage directly to PLEX. So that I wouldn’t have to store any videos on my computer. I have 6 External HD storing all my videos plus Filefactory as a backup. Would be nice not to have to buy so many hard drives. $$$ Maybe sometime in the future. Cool! The only thing I really dislike is that if you have an issue, you have to spend to much time sifting through other people's problems until you find one similar to your problem. And hope there is a solution. I wish that Plex had somebody to actually help when you have a problem or a question.
Server is great. This app.. not so much
by efaardvark on 2020/08/02 04:38
Every update loses its connection to my local server & has to be re-connected manually via that well-hidden (though by now well-known) option. No idea why this happens, but it always does after every update of the iOS client. Other apps on the same device can connect to other services on the same server, and no other devices on my lan have a problem with the Plex server, or any other service for that matter. Obviously a long-standing bug in the client. And now after the most recent update it won’t even connect after performing the above maneuver. I get a “Plex server is currently unavailable. Please verify the server is running..” etc. Switch to safari on the exact same iOS device that this app is running on and it can connect to the server via the web interface just fine. Don’t waste your time, or money.
Updates Bring Confusion with Interface and Bugs
by FearlessMonkey on 2019/02/06 00:37
Update: This has been long time coming. Out of nowhere Plex decided to update the UI and it is absolutely awful! It is difficult to navigate and looks bad. My kids can't find things as easily as they used to. My wife prefers every other streaming app over this, but only since the update. The update isn't 'new' anymore, but each time I open the app I long for the old interface. Additionally, they have introduced a new issue with offline content that happen a regularly. I take long flights for business and rely on Plex for my media to gete through. For whatever reason, when I'm in either airplane mode or connected to WiFi but have no internet connection, the app cannot see my sync'd data. It is infuriating to be stuck on a long haul flight and not be able to access data that is stored on the phone! I learned, after hours of boredom, quickly loading different libraries and the app eventually figures out it can read the data that is already there. It happens on my phone and iPad. Very frustrating. Fix the bugs. Rework the horrible interface. This app used to be great. Old review: Has a few glitches but the developers regularly update the application with feature enhancements and bug fixes. Easily worth $5.
Gets better with age
by drbruce2 on 2019/02/06 15:21
I have used Plex for years and years. Each iteration either makes it more stable or adds improvements to the program, like subtitles, What it does automagically would take a long time to do manually. My grandkids can watch family videos, see pictures of their progenitors or watch movies from 3000 miles away. Heck, I even was able to access it in China, on the opposite side of the globe. The users forum can get you through any possible rough patches when you are starting out as they did for me, although as the program gets more and more sophisticated, that probably isn’t necessary. In a nutshell, they’ve made sharing easy.
Plex-The easiest way to view and share your stuff
by Vlaslow on 2018/01/08 14:59
I first downloaded the Plex environment a year ago. It was obvious to me after a month that I needed to get a lifetime subscription. It beautifully organizes your movies, tv shows, and music into easy to view and listen groups. And now, with the addition of live TV via approved tuners, we see our over the air tv anywhere while also being able to record it and have it stored in Plex ready to view. The one area I have had difficulty is getting my pictures organized so that they can be viewed. That’s not really important to me, but if it is to you, be certain to try Plex first before buying a license.
Offline browsing bug
by casbo on 2018/08/25 16:04
Clicking Offline Browsing when you’re on the network is broken. If your on the network, when offline browsing is selected, you still see all of the network content. Not sure how this got out of testing! Expected behavior is all network content should disappear and only locally stored content should be viewable. Another bug is that sorting and viewing preferences don’t stick when moving between online and offline content. Example, I want to only see a view of my albums alphabetically. I don’t want to see the default view of artists. If I change to sort view to the way I like it, it reverts back to default when I go back offline. Please review your old app and ask your users why they liked their Plex experience the way it used to work. You can learn a lot from your customers.
Bad Joke level customer service and Tech Support.
by hoffets on 2020/11/11 15:09
Have had my plex account hacked over a month ago and I’m STILL dealing with customer service trying to restore full control over it. Service is good, app is good, but if you ever have a problem and need help? Man you are screwed at that point. Update: Have had my account restored using a method not in the list of methods given to me by customer support which have an inaccurate list of such methods those were attempted only to be shot down, and I went down the list. The only 2 methods they will accept is 1. payment details: which would be easy but who keeps the records of a sub 200 dollar 2 year old purchase that was not even bought on your credit card to begin with? 2. If there is a change of email you get emailed a link with a token in it. Which is what I was able to find. Don’t get me wrong I am very happy to have my account restored, but if there was a magic bullet to fix this which there was, why wouldn’t you go there first and save an entire month of frustration. I will say that I really enjoy the app itself it’s all but revolutionized my entertainment, but customer service needs more money and the folks need to be retrained as they do not seem to be very knowledgeable, my issue used as a case in point.
