No synced content works
by Jonas77 on 2021/12/01 04:21
This is so typical Plex, broken broken broken, replace with something new broken, oh and we broke something else. The service is Fantastic, when it works, but those days are few. I thought we had a good year, 2021, but now the sync is broken where none of the content synced is playable, since a version or two back. Thanks Plex!
Plex Perfect

Plex
by Reviewitman on 2021/11/30 15:24
I wish it connected easier to my Apple TV, but it really changed the game for other media systems in my house. It’s so cool that you can download movies to your phone if you buy Plex, but I wish multiple people in my house could download what they want on what ever profile they make. Keep it coming Plex!
They have done a great job.
by Can yea and will yea on 2021/11/29 13:57
I’ve only started using Plex for 2-3 years and in that time-frame they have significantly improved their experience across iOS devices and the Apple TV. I can stream original quality of most media locally to my Apple TV and transcoding and downloading are an amazing experience too. Plex Pass is an amazing option if I want to download and take my media with me at only $5/month I just get it when I need it. I think it’s well worth it to support a great system.
Apple TV version is horrible
by Navy Chop_ on 2021/11/28 20:26
DVR portion of the app is garbage! Many times the app needs to be forced closed before it will be responsive. Also trying to play a in progress recording is just asking for trouble. Fast forwarding is unreliable
Just english? … too bad.
by GG&GG on 2021/11/28 15:19
This is fantastic. Unfortunately I like to watch in Spanish and is not even one and even other language option . Nothing to watch but english. It’s a pity.

Download/Pass issues
by Kristaki238 on 2021/11/27 07:32
My Apple ID and plex ID use different emails. Although I’ve never had an issue with downloading content before on an old iPad, I now cannot download at all. The app keeps asking me to buy a pass. However I’m logged in as my plex user and a lifetime pass is already showing. Uninstalling or logging out doesn’t seem to do anything. But the layout is fantastic. Playback is good via streaming.
Too many adds

$4.99 charge just to watch your videos for more than a minute. I’m coming from the using the android version of this app where I never had to pay a dime. Now the iPad version requires a $4.99 charge just to use the dam thing!
Better off using the browser
by M@rshmallo on 2021/11/24 16:58
The app offers no real benefit beside it running natively on your device. I have no issues using Safari on my iPad Pro and iPhone and can even AirPlay to my TV. The TV app has way too many issues. Audio may not play and says I have a weak connection but my iPad plays the same title with no issues.
Randomly starts playing.
by jsphillips86 on 2021/11/24 12:43
The last two days, I have been woken up by Plex on my iPad starting a random episode of tv, while locked. I can’t even begin to understand how that is even possible.
Crashing
by aburtonky on 2021/11/24 09:54
Hey guys, this app is now regularly crashing. Especially when I multitask and go to another app and come back. But now, it’s even crashing when I watch for just a few minutes. It’s also crashing when I’m downloading my content to my phone. I have an iPhone 11 Pro.
Good app
by Jc1971-1984 on 2021/11/23 13:16
The app is good, with one flaw. I have to close it and re-open the app when commercials come on because my screen goes black, video disappears. I can hear the commercial and the show but have no video.
Good but crashes
by RarelyRed on 2021/11/23 04:01
When casting to a Chromecast the app loses connection to the device whenever I put my phone to sleep or open another app. When I open Plex again I have to reconnect and start the video again.

No Longer Works
by Nin7 on 2021/11/20 04:45
I’ve been using Plex since before v 1.0 (years!). I don’t always update the IOS app because I don’t always like the silly UI changes they make. This time, I decided to update the IOS app to match the current server. Suddenly the IOS app on my phone won’t connect to any of my servers. (Local network access is enabled, but servers show up as “offline”). AppleTV apps and website access works. IOS app on 4 of my iPads work fine. I’ve uninstalled & rebooted several time - nothing. No longer works at all on this phone. - Incredibly frustrating!!
Not very happy
by mkanatzer on 2021/11/19 03:33
I got this app and really enjoyed it great moves. But thought it played to many adds. So I decided to pay for a subscribe. To stop see all the adds. I was wrong still see just as many adds during streaming. Going to cancel my subscription soon. I can not figure out how to contact any customer support.
Pretty good
by jmstacey on 2021/11/18 15:39
Bug with PiP on iPadOS 15 when fast forwarding in the PiP window. The video will hang until Plex app is reopened and the time index tickled with user interaction. No way to easily submit bug reports is the most grating thing of all.
Excellent work in progress!
by FirstRedemption on 2021/11/18 14:49
Fantastic app, have always enjoyed Plex and their services. I have 3 items that I would personally like to see addressed: 1. Recently, on launching the app from a cold start, the app will launch and close immediately. A second attempt to launch the app launches it without issue. 2. When playing a movie, if I switch to a different app, more often than not, upon returning to Plex the app freezes when I attempt to unpause the movie. I have to close and reopen the app. 3. Not a bug, more of a minor qol request: Is it possible to fully integrate smooth PiP to where I can swipe to the Home Screen without tapping a PiP button? If not, can we make it so the movie doesn’t pause for several seconds while switching between PiP modes? Like I said, fantastic app and service, those are my only, minor, issues with it.
It does not get any better or easier
by TrevorSchain on 2021/11/18 08:27
As someone who isn't technical, getting my Synology NAS set up and connected to Plex was very doable. Plex actually has plenty of content that assisted me step by step. Having Plex is the equivalent of your our music, movie and TV show collection available across all devices with a Netflix-like interface. It's so convenient to have all your media digitalized and accessible on really any device. Their apps are awesome and regularly get bug fixes and new skins. When I've sent product support requests, they usually answer in a day or two and have legit responses - not one or two sentences with no help. Couldn't recommend a better app or product.
When are you going to fix this app?
by pmzdj on 2021/11/18 04:28
The player itself is the buggiest video player on iOS. It makes HBO Max look like a holiday. Lately it crashes entirely when returning from the background. And speaking of background: Picture in Picture is supposed to actually work. Not this buggy halfway interpretation of it. I’m amazed Apple actually approves the app over this alone.

Buffering!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by Rebelsrose6165 on 2021/11/17 18:59
Put this app on my television to watch some movies, problem is that I get FIVE SECONDS of the movie and then it buffers got TEN SECONDS!! Watching the “live stream” is SOMEWHAT better, but not much! My internet feed is FAST, so don’t tell me it’s an internet problem!
Fix this please
by Faribwtib on 2021/11/16 17:48
Download feature is not working properly. Restarts the download instead of continuing where it already downloaded to when your wifi gets switched. Also download items should be queued rather than all at once.
Download doesn’t work
by No Longer Supporting You on 2021/11/15 15:15
Plex used to be a great product. The downward slide in quality and programming is becoming increasingly frustrating and has started me looking for a new product. First the app immediately crashes when you launch the app. So you have to launch it twice just open. (I have removed and reinstalled the app several time to make sure it wasn’t just a glitch with an update.) Second, you take away the Sync function and replace it with Download. You state “Download works how you always wanted Sync to work.” So if that is the case why didn’t you just remove the functionality? The download function in the app never actually downloads a single thing! I have tried to download an entire season. To the extreme that I left the app running in the foreground with the screen lock off for 3 days, it still didn’t download the first byte of data. (With the little circle running around the bars.) This was after repeated attempts to download with it running in the background like you used to be able to do. So, figured okay I’ll try just downloading an individual episode and nurse it through the weekend, still have not successfully got a single byte of data. You have managed to take a product with excellent potential and run into the ground.

WAY TO MANY ADS
by hrnfifnx on 2021/11/13 02:36
I was watching Train to Busan and in the middle of a sad scene I got 15 ADS and it was the same thing about ice cream and I was so mad because it’s just 1 more step to diabetes. They don’t have that good movies and tv shows either.
Loved my Plex for 10 years but…
by 10essee on 2021/11/12 03:34
Ready to move on. It’s no longer stable anymore. I’m pretty handy but sadly tired of troubleshooting every time I want to use it.
Amazing media server, glitchy app
by Astationzero on 2021/11/12 01:22
I run a Plex media server on a Qnap TS-251+. The server is filled with my DVD and Blu-Ray collection. When steaming full quality Blu-Rays the playback often stutters and freezes on my Apple TV HD/4K, Roku, iPhone 12 Pro and on in the Plex web player on my Mac and PC. This happens over Wi-Fi and CAT 6 during local non-transcoded playback. If I use another player like Infuse or VLC for playback I never have an issue. Transcoded videos seem to work fine in the Plex app and web player. Guessing it is some sort of buffer issue with the Plex players. Not a new issue, this has been happening for years and many, many updates. The Plex server is amazing, but the playback is best left to a third party apps for high quality videos.
Terrible update
by bowieboi on 2021/11/12 00:17
Many people have been having issues with this app because of its update. The system is screwed up and it says nothing is in sources and new sources cannot be pinned. Please fix this ASAP!

My star app
by ultimaterez on 2021/11/10 21:15
Plex is by and far my most used app. There are a few things that could be streamlined such as changing categories e.g. changing from TV shows to photos, however it is a minor thing. The biggest tweak(s) I would like to see: Please do not have paused content automatically start to play when switching networks e.g. cellular to WiFi and vice-versa. This even occurs when the screen is locked and it is frustrating/embarrassing when my pocket suddenly starts talking for no reason. Also, there is an issue where paused playback due to a incoming phone call becomes unable to resume after the call ends and the only solution is to quit the app and relaunch. Regardless of those minor issues, as long as Plex allows me to access my personal media content it will remain my #1 app.
Delete app to remove synced content
by Gecryan on 2021/11/10 11:37
I removed synced content from the app but it didn’t remove from my device. I had to remove the app for it to be deleted. Really???!!???
Excellent app, use it daily
by PhilDMV on 2021/11/10 05:49
I love this app and I have been using it daily for many years now. I would highly recommend this to anyone. There are just a few things that could use improvements- - playback stutters when you slide down control center - would be nice to have configurable forward and reverse increments - I prefer play/pause controls overlaying the video- like Netflix and prime video. IMO prime does a great job I like how a single tap in the center of the playback will pause rather than having to tap once to display and again on pause. The controls are also fairly small and they are easy to fat finger plus pretty difficult to target with gloves on - After pausing and leaving the app when coming back the playback is green for a few seconds but searching back once will fix it right away… might have to do with encoding but I have had this issue on many formats.
Great … but some quirks
by Marmoset Killer on 2021/11/10 02:09
Have used Plex (with plex pass) for years. It has always been awesome…. … until recently. Once I got to iOS 15 the audio player is strange. I browse my library, select and album to play… and it plays. However, I don’t get the playback controls. There is no way to stop, start, pause, fast forward the music … until I force close the app and restart it. Upon restarting, the expected music controls are available again. Would be 5+ stars if it were not for this quirk!!!
Downloads doesn’t work
by kz6fittycent on 2021/11/09 01:58
No matter what we’ve tried it doesn’t work. We’ve been paying for Plex pass for some time and this is kind of irritating.
Still unreliable
by Originator 88 on 2021/11/09 01:55
The live TV from a tuner still is unusable. Get Channels DVR if you want a great playback experience (or even just a usable one). Ten years later and Plex still hasn’t figured it out. At least I have easy access to Tidal though 🙄.
Freezing When Switching Apps While Watching A Show
by poofyjerry on 2021/11/08 20:40
Everytime I switch to a different app while watching the show, I come back to Plex and the video is frozen and I have to completely restart the app. Please fix this, I paid $5 for this app come on.

Great service when it works
by TechmanOCNJ on 2021/11/06 22:06
I have been a Plex pass member for years, I’m saddened to say that this once great service has been ruined! A lot of media buffers, which it never use to. I guess it’s easier to not improve, but take away features! Like the plug-in section, live tv with dvr etc.
I hated it!!!!
by dennis keezer on 2021/11/06 17:10
If I wanted to watch commercials during my movie, and worse…. Have parts of my movie cut to make room for theuseless commercials then I wouldn’t watch this on my device. I would just watch commercial tv What were you thinking? I would rather pay a subscription each year than mess with this low rate crap.
Unbelievable how offline downloading gets worse than before
by MikeFoscam on 2021/11/05 23:30
Lifetime membership such a waste. Download and Sync worked maybe 50% of the time. The new Downloads on iOS works 0% for the same movies/shows I just downloaded. Transcoding is also garbage.
The best Christmas movie ever!
by Ukwildcatfan1959 on 2021/11/02 10:14
I absolutely adore this movie, and it has become my favorite Christmas movie of all. I make an evening of watching, “A Christmas Snow,” at least a couple of times each year. I love the great acting by all, the wonderful storyline and the way it always brings tears to my eyes every time I see it. I recommend, “A Christmas Snow,” to everyone that enjoys a little Yuletide cheer!
App Keeps Crashing

by rdparritt on 2021/11/01 23:49

Ads in notifications
by Trac3rX on 2021/10/29 23:18
I love the functionality of Plex but I have serious issues with any app using notifications to advertise stuff about their “free tv” that I don’t care about anyway. Especially when I’m a Plex pass member.
Just awful, complete garbage. Just don't bother. No support available
by DDindy on 2021/10/29 21:39
Show titles don't load most of the time, rarely plays from guide for streaming, have to delete cache AND data just to get it to barely function, support forum full of extremely poor assistance, WON'T EVER LET ME LOGIN, 3 Months now, won't let me view anything without asking me to login, so WHY WOULD YOU BOTHER WITH THIS APP. So many other issues. Playback poor, freezing, screen locks up, etc. AND THEY WANT USERS TODO ALL THE DEBUGGING AND LOG IT ON THE FORUM. ( Instead of just enjoying a show like you want!!! You don't pay us!!! )Sounds like you need to chuck it and start over, but you can get almost if not every channel they offer on another app that works flawlessly EVERY TIME? YOU WOULDN'T! Don't bother. Doesn't work on smart TVs, doesn't let you log in, NO REAL CUSTOMER SUPPORT, no new shows or movies. Basically just another attempt to capitalize on the free tv market. Had you just had customer support this junk app might have been working properly after several months. Again, just don't bother with this app, plenty more working apps that have the same shows. Update;. Broken even more now. Just a CRAPAPP

App has been glitching since 2-3 weeks ago
by lily_taotao on 2021/10/25 03:21
The app has been working great until 2-3 weeks ago. I would be watching a show on my iPhone, but needed to pause and exit for a quick few seconds, but when I went back to it, it wouldn’t resume playing anymore. I had to reboot the app every time. It’s getting really annoying. Please help!
Riddled with quality issues, zero support
by DoctorStinkface on 2021/10/24 20:15
I’ll start by saying I spent the money on a lifetime Plex pass. There’s no shortage of random files it won’t play, times it’s super uncooperative trying to get a video to play, times I have to try again and again before a file plays. The most aggravating part of all is that there’s literally no way to get in touch with support for something I spent $120 on. It’s unacceptable.
Doesn’t continually stream
by jasneskis on 2021/10/24 04:30
Movie doesn’t stream. As soon as commercials play movie has to be started again. This happens after each series of ads. Very annoying. There are better apps where movie plays continuously after each ad break. No necessity to restart constantly.
Ads are SO LOUD
by Is 😱 on 2021/10/23 04:06
Why are the ads so loud. I enjoy the streaming app, but good grief I almost destroyed my hearing wearing ear buds! I now only watch without headphones of any kind. But fix this please you can damage people’s hearing!
Download feature does not work!
by the AV dude on 2021/10/23 02:27
I’ve loved Plex for years and used it to manage my video library locally and watch remotely. Sadly the developers decided to replace Sync with Downloads, which simply doesn’t work. Offline viewing is a key feature and now I can’t do that and neither can anyone in my family. I suggest you look elsewhere for a media management platform now that the most compelling feature is broken.
It was great until now.

Ads? Five 30 Second Ads? Every 10 Minutes?
by Gun editor? on 2021/10/18 04:08
You either need Ad Blocker for the device you are using Plex on or just not use Plex at all. Seriously Plex? I get more movie time from late night television than your service and it’s half ads. Would not recommend this for anyone in its current state.

All of a Sudden
by four 🌠 on 2021/10/17 11:30
I love Plex! Let me be the first thing I have to say is that. But, recently I am unable to watch it on either my iPad or my iPhone‘s because it appears to be an issue with remote access. All of a sudden they want me to go in and tweak the settings of my modem. I have not had to do this since day one. I do not know how to do this. My modem has sat in the corner for two years. It is not an old modem. It’s just frustrating when all of a sudden it stops working for no reason. But when it does work it is Amazing. I am a lifetime subscriber and it’s only recently that this has been a problem

Great App, Bad New Icon

I love using the Plex app, but I really dislike the new app icon.
Something changed and now nothing.
by heartbreakerbez on 2021/10/11 11:11
I used to be able to see my library. It was the same as on my tv or computer. Something changed with the app and I can’t load my library at all. The only way to see the library on my phone is go i through the web browser and log in. The problem with that is it Plex doesn’t have a mobile page it’s the full desktop page so it’s really really really tiny. Plex also lacks customer support for issues like this. If I ever find another site like Plex I will be switching.

Nice App with good offerings - only unfortunate issue is constant batching. Because of this I get real-time scores over my mobile device before the actual plays happen on the app. Takes some of the energy out watching football games.
One of the worst versions of Plex out there
by KellicTigre on 2021/10/10 09:54
I’m willing to give apps a lot of slack. But the comparison between iOS is app versus windows and android apps is night and day and not in a good way. First off you can’t edit or modify any of the items in a library. You can’t resize the grid view.Collections get ridiculously slow when you add more than 500 to 700 in a collection. The good news is though at least the application no longer crashes when you have a collection of over a thousand. Good more than anything else that you are is nothing like any of the other UIs on any of the other platforms including web. When you do a search it doesn’t actually bring up the contents it just brings up a list on the side. This is stupid. Plenty of other examples in the UI which make no sense. Hey but on the bright side you can change the icon for the application, that was sarcasm if you couldn’t tell.

I have my own collection of movies/tv shows loaded on my own Plex server. It works pretty good for allowing me to enjoy my collection from any device. My favorite feature is also the biggest bug: subtitles When they work they’re great. But half the time I get errors trying to bring up the list of subtitles. They get you hooked and then periodically take it away. Been going on for years and each update I pray they’ve finally fixed this. But alas, no Would have given 5 stars but for this

I had been using the app to airplay to my old Apple TV that doesn’t have the option to download plex directly to it. As of lately the app will stream fine on my phone, but the moment I attempt to AirPlay from plex to my Apple TV it gives an error message, but everything else I airplay works fine. This leads me to believe the issue is with plex which is highly disappointing. Please fix this issue.

Almost perfect...

For a long time, I couldn't find fault with this media app. It looks amazing and is extremely flexible and scalable. I use it at home on a Mac as the server and am able to run an Apple TV with its beautiful interface. My most irritating pair of bugs is with the iOS (iPadOS) app. When I'm watching content on my iPad, subtitles are shown when they shouldn't be. They show up as "OFF" in the settings, but they're most definitely on. The only way to get them to go away is to turn them on, then turn them off again. HOWEVER, after turning them on, the timing for tapping the required menu to turn them off again is very important, because there can be no subtitles present on the screen when the video is paused to turn subtitles off or that subtitle will be present at the bottom of the screen for the rest of the video, or until this whole maneuver is attempted again. Very distracting and an irritating bug to say the least. Most shows have a minute or two of recaps, so it's pretty much all nonstop dialogue (subtitles). This all being said, the Plex team has created an AMAZING media environment for the user. This level of quality is what every media company should aim for. I'm sure once the folks at Plex discover this bug, they'll be able to squash it in short order.
Local server connections
by elgrego1939 on 2019/08/24 07:52
I have always had trouble with the iOS versions of this app, even though I’m only connecting to a local server. The app on my Roku has no difficulty connecting to the same server. It is extremely frustrating. I am now completely unable to connect to the server from my iPad, despite having tried logging out and back into the app, logging out and using a wait list of local network connection, deleting the app and re-downloading it, deleting all three instances of the iPad app from my list of allowed devices in my account, etc. For some inexplicable reason, my Plex account has now decided that my iPad app is also a server, so some of the other client apps now list two entries for my iPad as servers. Also, when my home Internet isn’t working and I can’t go online, even though my Plex server is on the same local network/router as Plex app on my phone, iPad, and TV, none of them are able to access the server. They all say that the server is unavailable. My SMB file sharing on the same Mac at the Plex server works fine, so it’s not a problem with my local network. I would think that playing files in Plex over the local network would not be affected by an Internet outage… I’ve had so many problems with the iOS apps that I don’t see how the people at Plex hope to entice me to purchase a subscription when I can’t even really use the features that a subscription affords. The app is nice when it works, but far too often it doesn’t really work.
Plex is the beat
by AngryAlexG on 2018/12/29 18:11
I love Plex for it’s beautiful organization and easy to use interface. Having almost all my media in one place has always been the dream and Plex has done that for me (for about 80% - still missing native audiobook support and support for eBooks). Having full control of my own personal media cloud and server has been incredible. The movie and show ratings from Rotten Tomato are awesome and being able to watch a trailer of something is convenient if someone wants a quick synopsis. I love being able to put all our childhood videos converted from VHS on my own cloud and give access to my family to see any of the embarrassing and amazing home videos anytime. ***DEVS: Would love to see a audio only version for Apple Watch for streaming or offline usage to listen to podcasts, music, audiobooks - Audible does this now which has been amazing. Being able to listen to Plex media with only a watch and bluetooth headphones would be a game changer. Also native audiobook support and support for eBooks would basically round out any media needs I could possible want to have in one app! Love what the Plex teams does and always looking to see what they’ve recently added. More than happy to be a part of the Plex Pass Lifetime member. Keep up the amazing work!
Great App! But What is With The Issues?
by Jay8307 on 2019/04/15 02:52
I have been a PlexPass member for years now and I couldn’t be happier. However, lately playback has been terrible. For example, if I shuffle anything a CD, a playlist, my library whatever I get this weird issue where two songs will just start playing at once. To fix it I usually have to stop the track(s) and either skip back a track or skip forward. Then one of the two songs will play properly. In addition, sometimes when I go to play a song in a playlist or CD (anything with multiple tracks) sometimes the track will not play. It will instead skip right to the next song and no matter what I do it will not play. The track is fine though because I can play it by accessing the file directly (not through Plex). Lastly, ever since this offline browsing thing was introduced it has been glitchy. If I want to access my files on my server I usually have to toggle it on and off a few times before my library will show up. It works the same for if I want to access tracks synced on my phone too. Love the thought of being able to toggle, but has to be a better way. What ever happened to just clicking in the upper left corner?
Great app but dont expect it to keep working well.
by Bobhffhvderhg on 2020/09/23 20:05
Im writing this review on sept 23, 2020. The app has change quite a bit from when it was first released. The organizational changes have been bad here and there but it still did everything quickly. That is no longer the case. I have multiple 4k apple tv boxes and they all are experiancing performance issues after the last couple of updates. Laggy, slow, unresponsive interface which require a reboot to fix. I have never had to reboot my apple tvs with such regularity. In the past i have been able to wait weeks or months before intentionally rebooting one. (I have automatic updates off... so no other reboots barring poweroutages etc.). I recommended apple tvs for their solid performance with plex but it seems that is one more thing they have abandoned in the pursuit of having animated startup logos and other foo foo nonsense. They just seem to want to add new features no one wants while detracting from the features everyone needs.
Needs some TLC
by hiCameron on 2019/01/28 19:39
I love Plex but the iOS app can use some more attention. I don’t allow my server to be exposed externally so I use the offline sync feature for when I’m away. Now, whenever I open the app it will start in offline mode like I left it before (I can see the big red banner) but it will attempt to connect to my server still. I’ll pick from the list of sources in the top left corner but it only shows my server as an option and it’s offline. To get around this, you have to open preferences and click the offline toggle 2 or 3 times usually before you can access your offline content. Another issue is that it frequently crashes when I pause the music with my headphones, I’ll unlock it and have to relaunch the app. It’s a good app, but not a great experience. I’ll be happy to rate it higher if the first issue will get fixed. EDIT: new update, unfortunately worse in performance. Same issues stated above but now includes that for whatever reason if I pause my offline music or get a phone call, then go back to resume, the music just stops playing. Sometimes the scrubbing bar moves as if it is, sometimes not. But hitting the play/pause buttons don’t do anything so I must kill the song and play a different one. I really love Plex but this app is going downhill.
Update is lacking...again
by musiclover500 on 2018/11/20 23:57
I usually don't leave feedback regarding updates, but I must in this case... I'm a big fan of Plex, and mainly use it on Roku and IPad. I am extremely disappointed that the watch later feature was discontinued recently AGAIN which I used everyday! It was helpful to browse tv plugins on the iPad and add episodes to watch later......to then watch later on the roku....since the roku has NEVER had this feature since Plex was born. Please bring back the watch later feature asap, and please add this feature to Roku too! Also, I am happy with the new podcasts feature but would love a listen later feature for that too! I do not like the webisodes feature and don’t care to see it but there is no way to remove it? Still need tweaking with customization options. Plex is fantastic overall, but I'm giving 3 stars this time, because an update should not keep subtracting from the user enjoyment. Common sense says make things more user customizable, so people can choose what they want to keep and get rid of what they don’t want to see....and with as few clicks as possible too! Please fix what is lacking now, but once was there to enjoy.....for the 2nd time!!!
The worst software in existence.
by Frogrates on 2019/06/24 01:29
No other program for any computer of any kind has more than 1% of the bugs afflicting Plex. I was a premium user for one month and one month only; though it was only $5, I resent it deeply. I joined the premium in order to transfer files; I tried to transfer a file; three days later, it was not yet 50% transferred, so I canceled and transferred it via OneDrive; it took 27 seconds. This is ALL due to the Plex developers’ monumental stupidity, changing the files’ formats rather than just making their software read multiple formats. Those who praise Plex have failed a rudimentary intelligence test; you could upload your files and play them in VLC or similar software in less than 1% of the time, with less than 1% of the hassle. In addition, there’s the insane fact that the apps have no button to update a library. Add a video, wait six hours (if you’re lucky), and it will appear in your library. You cannot manually do this. MANY people have complained about this design flaw on Plex’s forums; official responses have LIED and claimed that no one has raised the issue previously, when in fact there are a dozen threads stretching back years. All in all, if you’re using Plex, stop and find a better program, which is ALL OF THEM.
Good ideas with bad development
by Abscission on 2020/06/10 05:36
This app can be great when it works and when they aren’t removing features that have been there for years. Several versions have seen end of life support with many bugs still remaining. You used to be able to swipe left or right between songs when listening and now you have to hit an actual button to skip a song, why remove a feature that wasn’t broken? I have a lifetime subscription and the developers are an absolute joke. Literally each new update breaks something else and their support structure is nonexistent. Smart playlists are broken when locally synced to devices and have been for awhile. Alternate artwork that has been changed and locked can revert back automatically even when locked just by playing that content. Forum mods say this won’t happen and yet it does bringing me back to their terrible support structure. It’s time consuming to deal with the many bugs that exist and continue to show up with each release. There are problems that were reported by multiple people in 2015 for example and the issue remains, five years later. I bought a lifetime subscription and wish it had the support it deserves because it definitely doesn’t.
My BEST APP EVER
by austinpatrick on 2019/12/27 12:54
I Was looking for a means to view my video library and found Plex to my liking. I can set up my library to watch movies as if I were back in the old days where Saturdays was an outing to go to the marquee at 12 noon to watch previews, three cartoons, the news reel, and two two movies . That took up five hours in the old days at the RKO THEATER. I can now reproduce that wonderful experience and go to the head without missing the story by hitting the pause button. The developers deserve a great praise for their hard work. Update December 2019 I now have over 3000 movies ; TV, AND home movies in my plex library, I also have over 4000 music files and 8000 personal photos that I scanned in from old album books and pictures lying around in trunks , paper bags and boxes. At any time I can access any photo, or video in seconds to show friends and family. What is nice about plex is you can consolidate your entire visual LP records old tapes and 45 rpm records and auditoria history in one app. I have my plex on a WESTERN DIGITAL 10 Terabyte pr2100 NAS DRIVE using RAID 2 so that I will always have a back up in case something goes wrong. I also backup my plex library to a separate 10 TB drive unplugged and stored in another place. My kids and grandkids can always review our family history at any time. And by the way! They can down load videos and pictures to their phones from plex to show their friends or watch them on the plane when they travel. Great App.
Works and works well
by MajorHavoc on 2020/11/25 08:32
Best solution to cataloging and playing media across many platforms there is. With a premium subscription and PlexCloud, one can watch videos from just about anywhere you can get a decent connection. While the interface does take some time to get used to, and the Plex folks insist on changing it all the time, it functions well and actually manages watching or listening for you in a very helpful way, including remembering what you have seen or heard, and continuing in the right places when you come back to something in progress. And the Plex people are quick to address bugs and issues, and listen to suggestions for improvements. Just finished a trip to Italy and Germany, and had access to my media the whole time. In addition, Plex’s database of images, sounds, titles, and cover art make the interface beautiful and helpful. The lifetime PLEX subscription was the best decision for me. And no, I do not work for the company, and they did not pay me to say this. Just very pleased with how well this software works.
Loving Plex
by Invest a little on 2019/05/07 15:52
I love Plex and it has given the chance to explore all the media I had but was previously buried in stacks of CDs and DVDs. Bought a lifetime pass years ago,so glad I did. Having said that, the current iOS app and Plex server have some seriously annoying “features”. Selecting repeat a track in the iOS app will sometimes repeat it, but more often than not, it doesn’t and stops playing anything else afterwards, meaning you have to restart the play queue. It mixes together playing several tracks at once. This does not happen on the web app. Playlists on the Plex server sometimes get wiped out. The playlist name is still there, just nothing in it. When you have hundreds of items in the playlist, it’s impossible to recreate. These items have been posted to the Plex forum and others have the same issue, Plex haven’t addressed them.
Missing my easy access across the bottom...
by KingFresh88 on 2019/11/25 13:45
I love Plex. It’s always been great (with jinks here and there). But the last major update to the app took away my menu across the bottom and replaced it with a side menu that I can only access when I’m on the home screen. Here’s an example of why this is so annoying: I primary use the Plex App on iOS for music. So if I go to an artist > album > track. Then from there decide to go back to the artist > similar artist > new artist > album > track, and then decide to hit the search button > search another artist > choose album> track, then decide actually I want a different song, so hit search > track name and then decide, I wanna go back to the main Music menu, I can’t just hit Music. I have to navigate back > back > back x 100 until I finally see the hamburger menu on the left and can select Music. That’s incredibly annoying. Before it was easy to just hit Music at the bottom and go back to where I started without issue. If anything let me access the main menu without having to go back...
Doesn't work as well as it used to
by anon0913 on 2020/01/11 21:17
I love Plex, but it seems to be getting less stable. The iOS app especially has been way more glitchy than it used to be, but the desktop stuff, both server and player, isn't running as smoothly anymore either. My hardware is all a bit dated, but it should still be plenty adequate. On my 4th gen iPad, the Plex app crashes frequently and the video often stutters and its been getting progressively worse. I think some of the more recent updates helped some with the crashing, but the stutters have gotten worse. I would prefer to not transcode files for playback as my Plex server is running on my primary computer and I don't want to tie up the resources and it doesn't solve all the issues anyway. VLC for iOS handles the files better, so I use that when Plex fails me, but Plex has the far superior browsing interface. VLC plays more smoothly, only rarely stuttering under very heavy network or drive activity, has better audio boost functionality, etc.
AirPod connection needs attention
by pilchak1 on 2019/01/08 20:13
After months of going back and forth, I finally took the plunge and paid full price for the Lifetime Plex Pass. I must say, i was immediately disappointed by the poor interfacing with my AirPods. In particular, if I pause the music by a double tap to my AirPod, and the phone goes to sleep before I want to restart the music, the app will not play music to the AirPods again without closing and rebooting the app. To be explicit, connectivity is not restored by a double tap of the AirPod when the phone is off, on but on the lock screen, on and logged into the phone but not on the app, or even when logged back into the phone with the app open. Furthermore, opening the app and pushing play will cause the progress bar to advance but there is still no music playing. Please address this in a future update. As another suggestion, there also needs to be a less clunky way to switch between online and offline browsing mode — maybe assume if no server is available default to offline mode?
Best Media Server
by Bossfuji on 2017/10/02 18:43
I've been using Plex as a Media Server and iOS app for over 5 years now. Both the server and app complements each other and very easy to use. The app has features such as sync which allows you to watch movies or TV shows on your local device without needing internet access. You can configure sync to auto download any number of unwatched episodes for a TV Series. So let's say for you have Season 5 of TV show '24' for 4 unwatched episodes synced and your iPad has Eps 8-11 downloaded. You can be on an airplane and watch Eps 8 & 9. You get to your hotel and sync up again. The app will delete Eps 8-9 since they were watched and download Eps 12 & 13 since they are the next unwatched Eps. So this configuration will keep a rotating 4 unwatched episodes of '24' on your local device. The app also displays metadata (Title, Year, recap, actors, directors, posters, etc.) of the movies or TV Shows.
🛂“Something Went Wrong Playing Your Media...
by dataBANG on 2019/09/22 00:23
Like my title? If you cast, it’s something you’re going see a lot when the Plex app goes “dumb” usually when you wake up your iOS device to scrub to a later time or forward to the next track. In this “dumb” mode, the app cannot update the movie’s position and appears to forget or reestablish the selected Plex player while on your screen is the last position when your device (probably) fell asleep and the scrubber is unresponsive and then you get to the point where it simply cannot play and you get an error message. The fastest stop gap is to change the player, and switch back. It’s just a whole lot of noodling for a 5-star app. Sure the system is very convenient but it’s implementation is shoddy, at least on iOS. The Plex developers have done good to build a media jukebox but I’m sick of being annoyed with the same problem on multiple devices.
Almost perfect!
by Arthur Dent ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ on 2019/04/06 16:36
For me, the Plex app is almost perfect. I am currently on a 30-day trial and I already know what crucial annoyances are going to stop me from going full (or even lifetime) subscriber. 1. Their WebOS app is way behind the rest. For TV, you cannot use the guide, which makes the normal TV viewing pretty much impossible. 2. Argh! The track list unavailability in FLAC. Brings back the memories when you had to fast forward a cassette tape to find your next track on the album, or go ahead and listen to the entire album. No easy way to go to a particular song (or even see it, as you will be just looking at the album), 3. Problems with remote access cutting out in 2-3 seconds after enabling. It is super buggy and no amount of their troubleshooting worked for me. These three issues are critical enough to dissuade me from upgrading and will be sticking with free version for now. I know there are lots of people who want to make Plex their primary DVR/TV viewing app but can’t for the above mentioned (1) reason. I know there are lot of audiophiles who wish to have Plex as their primary player/server but for the above mentioned reason (2) they just can’t. I really hope devs take a note and address these crucial issues. I don’t know what else in this platform needs more urgent attention from the feature point of view - it has all the bells and whistles.
App free when you get Plex pass - WORTH IT! Best media server and app to pull plug
by NCJaZz on 2018/10/18 22:03
I purchased the lifetime Plex Pass. The best a/v decision I’ve made. I wish the sync process was easier for offline listening and watching FOR MY KIDS but for me it allows for granular control of kbps rate per song. Interface for me as a technologist is very much self driving and in-play. I think i paid around a bill for the lifetime Plex pass a few years ago and it’s more than paid for itself. The app is free for Plex pass subscribers (monthly yearly or lifetime pass) but even for those who don’t do pass the cost of you have access to a Plex media server with a decent sized media dB is worth the cost to get all the extras. We added a couple of homerun boxes and killed cable which is saving us almost a bill / 100 Per month alone so Plex has been incredible for us at home and at the office and when on the road.
needs some fixes

I have been using Plex for about 1 1/2 years now and it has been great! The video quality is good, especially considering all the other apps i have used in the past. Sound is great, but I still have one problem that i have seen other reviews mention as well. I go away a lot on trips and stuff so i usually download and sync the movies i want to watch. As soon as i click it, the movie would not show and would just keep loading and glitching and blacking out. I don’t understand why because usually when i download stuff in the past, it has worked fine but suddenly this is happening and it gets very frustrating to watch a screen load when i want to watch something. I think what this app need is some attention to fix some other issues, importantly this one. Please get this fixed, I really love Plex, i love to use it and if you can just check out the download and sync maybe make an update to help the issue, that would be great! Thank you! - Mikayla🤍
Despite glitches, still the best there is UPDATE
by H3yd on 2018/10/19 12:22
I'm a lifetime PlexPass member; I use Plex's various incarnations across tons of devices. Yes, every now and again something goes awry, but to paraphrase Louis CK, "You try building it and making it perfect all the time!" It works 99.9% of the time for 99.9% of everything. Having worked in software development, I can understand how impossible it is to foresee every possible iteration and challenge, but Plex is incredibly stable and reliable. UPDATE: The app is basically broken on iOS 12/iPhone X. Anytime I’m in portrait mode, the close/minimize controls are not accessible, which makes it impossible to send content via Chromecast. Even when in landscape mode, the controls seem barely functional. This has been the case ever since I upgraded to iOS 12, and is extremely frustrating.
Great App
by Karther on 2017/12/16 20:55
Love this app. It has what I need for using my data and getting it anywhere. I don't understand the need to have a Plex pass I don't use this feature as it is not needed. I do think however that the Plex makers or any app or program designers should ever withhold the ability to have parental control. This feature is a security feature to make sure no children ever get what they should have and should be a default item in any app. When this becomes a standard non plex pass feature Ill give 5 stars. Its just the right thing to do. Beyond that all features are great app works like a charm. I took another star for not having the ability to have plex find all my movies. Vob and a few other standard movie types when ripped Plex did not find and i have to now convert 400+ films to a mode plex will use. Silliness. It should at least do what XBMC already does. As Most that use plex also use xbmc for hone use since the XBMC interface is better for home use and streaming plex is best for. Ill return that star when it does other formats also.
Really does seem like magic, but no composer tag
by MW Huntster on 2019/04/23 13:41
I installed Plex on my PC and iPhone for a while because I found other ways to stream music from my hard drive to be unreliable or complicated. You install Plex and it quickly finds all media files on your computer - no need to direct it to folders. All the music on my drive appears on my iPhone with tags intact. All album covers are shown, and each artist now has a helpful little bio. This is all with absolutely no effort on my part. Streaming on a wifi network from the computer to the phone, and from the phone to the stereo using Airplay, always works without a hitch. The user interface is attractive, powerful, well-organized, and easy to use. Everything happens smoothly and promptly - no pauses or glitches. The problem is with classical music: there is no composer tag available! I switched to MediaMonkey.
iOS app is not well designed
by Datawrangler on 2018/10/03 05:49
I have owned Plex for about 4-5 years now, and the media server is great. It’s very easy to set up and manage. The iOS app, however, is not very good. As an example, it does not sync music very well. I had all my music synced to my phone; then one day it was all gone. No error message or notification of what had happened. 5000 songs were deleted off my phone. Syncing has been problematic since day one. The other problem is with the UI. The buttons are tiny, even on an iPhone XS. They tried to cram too much on the screen and made the play and pause buttons so small I have to have my glasses on to see them. Since it doesn’t integrate with Siri well, I have to pull over if I want to search for songs while I’m driving. Playlists also don’t sync between devices so I have to set up new lists on each one. In my opinion, the whole app needs a complete redesign. I’ve tried to make it work, but I’m going to be looking for another app to use to play my music on my phone.
Would have been a 5 before
by bexn01 on 2018/07/02 05:02
I spent a lot of time organizing my library and now it’s frustrating as all get out to get to my content. Please add an ALL option and not just an All for TV, Movies and Music. Plex just became unusable for me. I’ve been using Plex from almost the beginning back when it was Mac only. I was one of the first people to sign up for a lifetime pass. Please don’t make me regret this. I don’t want to use a different client to view my content but it looks like I’m going to need to until they fix this problem. I’m really not happy that they didn’t give us a toggle to the old format or at least a way to view ALL content and then switch to folders. [If you’re in the same boat, please consider checking out Infuse 5. It seems to work seamlessly with Plex Server and keeps it in folder layout. You’ll also be able to add Dropbox, OneDrive and Google Drive. I’ve been recommending Plex & Plex Server for years. I never thought I’d be suggesting folks use a different client, in a Plex app review no less!]
WHY? PLEX, WHY??? This Update is COUNTER-INTUITIVE
by Regan83 on 2018/06/16 05:13
For iOS Plex Media Player App, I haven't check my computer or TV Plex Apps yet::: I truly hate writing update reviews… So let me start by stating, the Plex Media Server and it's organization magniloquence is unmatched for personal media organization and management! HOWEVER, Plex, why did you remove the "Browse" feature??? I'm sure many geeks like me are super organized when it comes to our media library. I like to go to my playlist section or browse through what libraries I've added to see what I'd like to view or what playlist I have available to watch. I have at least 3TB of vids, cartoons, anime, movies and tv shows all organized within your brilliant Plex Server... Now!!!, I can't just go to a section I'd like to browse through, as it was before the update. Podcasts are not as important, everybody does podcasts. Plex is supposed to be for the personal/private media lover who simply wants to watch what is esoteric to them and watch anywhere at anytime without having to go through leaps and bounds to reach his/her favorite playlists... Please RE-ADD the browse feature. It was THE BEST. Now, Plex for iOS is a hassle. Please help, thank you so much!!! Otherwise PLEX is truly awesome! ~ A Loyal PAYING customer!
What happened to being able to preview the trailer of the movie before you watch ?
by Texaggies on 2019/08/05 10:43
I always loved to watch the trailer of the movie before picking one. I could decide if I really wanted to watch it or not. For some reason on the tv ap and the mobile app this has gone away. I love plex don’t get me wrong. But I purchased the lifetime upgraded thinking this would come back. And I think the only thing it actually did was let me put random trailers before the movie like in the movie theater. I don’t want those trailers. I would like to see the trailer preview of the movie selected come back. Please let me know if there is some setting I am missing. I’ll still give the app a 5 but I would really appreciate if someone let me know if I am missing something.
Improved accessibility
by Dinky Donky 42 on 2020/09/18 00:35
I love plex! It has had some accessibility problems, but I can see the team is working to make it more accessible, specifically in regards to voiceover. One part that still needs to be worked out in regards to accessibility with voiceover is within the player screen. If you open a video to watch, the player controls disappear after a few seconds. On most players I can just put the Focus on the playing video and tap to bring them back up. For some reason though on plex, you have to turn off voiceover tap the video, and then quickly turn it back on and try tapping play, pause, fast forward or whatever action you are trying to get to. Besides getting stuck within the player screen, this is still one of my favorite app’s to watch TV with the family.
Great app, clunky interface
by Dalwan Daddy on 2018/12/17 12:56
This app is my go-to app for watching videos, so, I want to give it five stars, and I wish I could give it another half star because it's that good. There's only one small complaint, and I hope the developers are reading this, because I know I'm not the only one that has mentioned this flaw. Please let us access our playlists from the home screen! It's more of an inconvenience than anything, but, I have to find the part of the library that the playlist is in, then the section, then the playlist. I know, it's a very minor inconvenience, and it used to be on the home screen, but I feel it would make this a five star app. Other than that, I can access all of my videos from my server anywhere I am and the quality is fantastic.
Flakey and invasive
by Markdown Pro on 2018/09/24 02:19
I want to like this app and the Plex server, I really do. After all I paid good money for both when first impressions/tests were good. Since then there have been many updates, and it has been more frustrating than usable. Having some experience debugging both software and network issues, I’ve spent way too much time trying to understand what this app is doing or rather failing to do, which causes it to frequently stall or not even connect to the server within our home network. Time I would have rather spent actually enjoying our media. My #1 complaint is that it stalls or buffers so much that it is unusable. Our LAN and all devices are plenty fast so congestion or speed of connectivity isn’t the problem. #2 WOW! This app calls home a lot. I think that might actually be the root of the problems. It even authenticates with an external service when all we want is for it to play local content. UI wise, it looks nice, but ultimately it needs to be able to play our content. For that we found MrMC, which is just superb and rock solid. Plus, MrMC seems to respect user privacy and rarely makes external requests... if ever. Regardless I keep revisiting this app to see if updates have made it more usable because the UI is nice, and because I paid so much for it. As of sept. 23, 2018, it still stalls on most content, while the same files play perfectly in MrMC.😑
In for a lifetime
by VandwellerDave on 2020/04/23 01:53
Full disclosure, I’m a lifetime member. I wasn’t always, but I was monthly for over a year before going all in. I try to get as much information about a product before I deem it worthy of occupying room on one of my servers. After narrowing down my choices to three, I see by my notes that there was only one that made conscious, constant efforts to improve the experience for the person using it to manage all of a ridiculously huge catalog of movies and music. Now they offer live streaming of their own content. It’s really the only entertainment choice for me, and not just for a lockdown. I have access to my entire connection on any and every device that I own. I HIGHLY recommend Plex to all my geeky friends and coworkers.
UI update makes content harder to find and the app harder for kids
by A.Nutron on 2018/06/21 15:50
The new UI is much harder to navigate than previous versions. In addition to just taking more effort to go to specific collections and servers, it’s nearly impossible for kids to use. Where previously my 6 year old could easily find her things, now the UI is completely useless to her. As an adult, it’s cumbersome and clunky, and as a kid, it’s broken. Stay close to your roots here. Make it easy to quickly navigate to specific collections on a specific server. Put some movie icons on collections to make them visually distinctive to require less reading. Make pushed content a browsing experience that one chooses to experience rather than the default. Don’t make this more complicated.
This app would be a good one, IF only....
by dieKracken on 2021/04/23 17:33
The Plex app is pretty great, IF I only wanted to watch movies on my iPhone 11. It will NOT connect to my LG tv nor will it screen share 100% of the time. In fact, I can get it to screen share maybe once in 10 times that I try. I can open the app, start screen sharing, and if for some reason I have to close the app or stop screen sharing, it completely stops working and I get a black screen when I try to start screen sharing again. As far as casting to the tv goes, forget it. That isn’t even an option with this app from my iPhone 11. I have tried numerous ways to fix the problem, but so far no luck. I don’t have time to figure the problem out either. For me, when I sit down to try and watch something, I want to be able to see it on my tv with ZERO issues because I almost never have time to actually sit down to watch tv. This app just does not work for me in this regard so its basically useless.
Great media player but live tv needs work
by Mrsco on 2020/02/03 02:37
Everything works pretty well but the guide on live tv is super janky. Leave the app in background and come back to the guys some hours later and it starts freaking out trying to figure out the time slots to show not letting you select any channels. You should allow the channel numbers to be tapped to be selected. Not just the show titles. Also the guid should be able to be overlayed on top of the full screen video stream playing in background so you can choose channels while still having a fullscreen view of what’s playing. This app was 5 stars before they added the live tv stuff but now it seems they bit off more then they can chew. Give some love and attention to live tv and the guide and this will be 5 stars again.
I am I love…but
by kitty😺😻 on 2020/12/23 02:44
I love PLEX but when I watch a movie there is a add and it has a bad word but you are probably saying (sarcastically) oh no a bad word??? That is so bad for a nine year old. So ya it is bad for a nine year old . But other then that I LOVE PLEX all of the new movies come out on PLEX so you don’t hAve to buy them for like $100 (maybe I was a little sarcastic) a few week few weeks before I put on this movie called Ella enchanted but instead of playing Ella and enchanted and played this random movie and it was really violent and I fast forward it so that it wouldn’t be on my continued to watch but it was really scary and my baby sister got scared even though all that bad stuff happened later everything was fine and fixed so yeah you should get PLEX!
Please fix the Apple TV app
by MattcoAZ on 2021/01/25 05:40
I decided to jump-in and get the tv tuners to take more advantage of my Plex server along with the Plex premium subscription. Now lest start with the 5 stars and take away one star for each issue below. As they get fixed I’ll add a star. I’m struggling with the Apple TV app. The guide doesn’t jump to the current date and time. Ie. if I open the guide at 2pm. Then later I open the guide up at 7pm it will still show the 2pm guide but it’s all grey out. I wait a few moments for it to refresh to the current time but no good. I have to right scroll to the current time multiple times until I find the current time. Then I can select programs/Channel to watch. Also, when I select a recorded show. It spins and spins and spins then errors out. If I open the same show on my phone and stream it so it works, then I can go to the Apple TV and stream the show. I don’t know why it’s doing this. Why does it take forever to scan through all the photos? I would think it would generate thumbnails for all the photos so I can surf through them quickly, not have it take 20 seconds to refresh the 5 photos on the screen, then I scroll to the next group of photos and have to wait another 20 seconds for those photos to refresh. I get spoiled by the apple photos app. Make it work like that.
An app worth paying for
by Sovereign007 on 2017/12/15 06:08
I have been a Plex user (free) for a few years until today when I finally become a Plex Pass (lifetime) user. I absolutely love this app and have gotten others on the bandwagon too. Once I upgraded my router I have had great streaming in my house and it wasn’t so bad with the severely outdated one too. I run an older i3 4gb ram wireless N computer and I can stream pretty high rate 1080p with little to no issues and if I have some I just dumb down the stream so the computer can handle it all. As of now I can stream and control the quality of the stream when I am away from home. My iPad Pro loves Plex and so do I. Thank you for the consistent updates to make Plex the best entertainment app and (home network/computer) software one could ever need!
Better and better
by Uniquer2 on 2020/10/31 18:50
I used Plex for years until my server crashed and I switched to Netflix for about 2 years and Netflix has a tendency to show english dubbed shows and no way to turn off seeing them, which is annoying. I wanted something better with more control so I bought a cheap pc for my plex server and torrent download manager and I gotta say that I’m impressed with how well plex performs since I’ve been away. The facebook groups are super helpful as well and the live tv works better than I expected. I’m probably going to subscribe to plex pass just to support them and the added features will be nice. Great job to the plex team for all they have done to make this app work so well and all for free
Server is great. This app.. not so much
by efaardvark on 2020/08/02 04:38
Every update loses its connection to my local server & has to be re-connected manually via that well-hidden (though by now well-known) option. No idea why this happens, but it always does after every update of the iOS client. Other apps on the same device can connect to other services on the same server, and no other devices on my lan have a problem with the Plex server, or any other service for that matter. Obviously a long-standing bug in the client. And now after the most recent update it won’t even connect after performing the above maneuver. I get a “Plex server is currently unavailable. Please verify the server is running..” etc. Switch to safari on the exact same iOS device that this app is running on and it can connect to the server via the web interface just fine. Don’t waste your time, or money.
Incredible utility when paired with a TV tuner!
by cohenjor on 2018/10/11 02:25
I’ve used Plex for years and have always loved how easy it works. It’s amazing how I can just click a button and have a piece of media automatically transcode and download to my phone to watch on a plane. But now that I’ve paid for Plex Pass and paired it with my server which has a TV tuner, it’s like magic. I can tap a button to view live TV, and under the covers, Plex is tuning my server at to the right channel, encoding video on the fly, and streaming that live video to me from home thousands of miles away to Hawaii over a crappy hotel Internet connection. And it just works. Add all that to the stuff Plex has done for years, like serving my music and syncing locally. It’s a must have for any media enthusiast.
I use Plex every day! Love it!
by Mediafreaky on 2020/05/08 23:45
Plex is one of the best Media Apps out there! I use Plex every day! Love it! I've been using Plex for years now. I watch all my tv shows and movies on Plex on my iPad, iPhone, laptop and of course on my tv's too! The “On Deck” feature is great. We’re my next tv series episode sits and waits. Now PLEX added older movies, web video clips and news to watch! Kind of cool! Plex as my main media streamer. It's easy to add you video files. I only wish that there could be a way to have PLEX automatically use my Filefactory video storage directly to PLEX. So that I wouldn’t have to store any videos on my computer. I have 6 External HD storing all my videos plus Filefactory as a backup. Would be nice not to have to buy so many hard drives. $$$ Maybe sometime in the future. Cool! The only thing I really dislike is that if you have an issue, you have to spend to much time sifting through other people's problems until you find one similar to your problem. And hope there is a solution. I wish that Plex had somebody to actually help when you have a problem or a question.
Glad to find Plex
by Rosse54 on 2021/07/18 15:39
I have a smart TVs. When I originally scanned the available streaming apps, I didn’t find it recently I searched for a specific show that was no longer available. That’s how I found PLEX. I don’t mind commercials but they too often fail to load and lock up. None of the buttons help to restart or move forward or back to restart the stream. I have to leave, restart PLEX, and resume watching. Sometimes it resumes with the commercials, then I am anxious about getting through them. A string of 2-3 is usually stable. 5-6 rarely succeed. The production quality is great. I am binge watching 2 episodes of the program I chose. I suspect I will be checking the rest of your catalog soon. PLEX will reach 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 when the glitchy commercials are fixed.
Bad Joke level customer service and Tech Support.
by hoffets on 2020/11/11 15:09
Have had my plex account hacked over a month ago and I’m STILL dealing with customer service trying to restore full control over it. Service is good, app is good, but if you ever have a problem and need help? Man you are screwed at that point. Update: Have had my account restored using a method not in the list of methods given to me by customer support which have an inaccurate list of such methods those were attempted only to be shot down, and I went down the list. The only 2 methods they will accept is 1. payment details: which would be easy but who keeps the records of a sub 200 dollar 2 year old purchase that was not even bought on your credit card to begin with? 2. If there is a change of email you get emailed a link with a token in it. Which is what I was able to find. Don’t get me wrong I am very happy to have my account restored, but if there was a magic bullet to fix this which there was, why wouldn’t you go there first and save an entire month of frustration. I will say that I really enjoy the app itself it’s all but revolutionized my entertainment, but customer service needs more money and the folks need to be retrained as they do not seem to be very knowledgeable, my issue used as a case in point.
Completely unstable.
by Hdoggg007 on 2021/08/03 01:55
The UI/UX gets worse and worse with every update. Heaven forbid you try to watch a synced movie on an airplane. You have to wait for the app to finally figure out its offline (which usually doesn’t work behind a captive portal and requires me manually switching off the wifi) and then its like 6-7 clicks to get to your synced content. This could be so much better. “We aren’t detecting a network connection, would you like to go to your synced items? Yes/No”. Or simply just show the synced items alongside the now synced. When your offline, the non synced items get grayed out or something. So many better ways to handle this. Update: also in latest ver, synced items have a significant audio lag..and major clipping. Come on Plex. Quit adding features no one cares about and fix your core product. In the latest release, the sync button has stopped working. Cmon plex.
When it works, it's amazing
by Lmb1011 on 2019/06/01 02:58
To be clear, the actual service of Plex is phenomenal. This app, is the most finicky thing I've ever used. I am currently watching Plex on my TV, and yet this app refuses to connect to ANY server even tho they are all online, as evidenced by the fact that I am currently using them. I have this problem DAILY, and sometimes it's fixed in 30 seconds, other times I spend minutes trying to connect until giving up and moving on to something else because it will not connect. And that I have to go through this every time I use the app is absolutely ridiculous. The Plex servers I use are up to date, my app is up to date, I'm on the same dang WiFi network as my most frequently used server and still it can't recognise when a server is Online. I recommend Plex, but this app is hit or miss
What have you done?
by my last try at a nickname on 2020/05/04 16:33
Since your last update of the AppleTV App, the default view selected of server files is not “saved” like the previous versions. It always defaults back to Grid View which is highly irritating to set back to Folder View everytime the App is restarted. Why does it have to be restarted you ask? Well, pressing Menu on the remote while in folder view (viewing all the files of particular series season folder) does not take you one step back example File view, Season View, Series name view and ultimately back to option view on the left. It jumps straight back to the option view on the left and the only way to get out of this “loop” is to quit the App. But then younare stuck with the default Grid View and the whole process just keeps going in circles. It feels like you are moving backwards with the updates that Plex are bringing out 😡

Plex
by Reviewitman on 2021/11/30 15:24
I wish it connected easier to my Apple TV, but it really changed the game for other media systems in my house.
… too bad.

I’m amazed Apple actually approves the app over this alone.

by Rebelsrose6165 on 2021/11/17 18:59
Put this app on my television to watch some movies, problem is that I get FIVE SECONDS of the movie and then it buffers got TEN SECONDS!!

My star app
by ultimaterez on 2021/11/10 21:15
Plex is by and far my most used app.

Still unreliable
by Originator 88 on 2021/11/09 01:55
The live TV from a tuner still is unusable. Get Channels DVR if you want a great playback experience (or even just a usable one). Ten years later and Plex still hasn’t figured it out. At least I have easy access to Tidal though 🙄.

Ads in notifications
by Trac3rX on 2021/10/29 23:18

We added a couple of homerun boxes and killed cable which is saving us almost a bill / 100 Per month alone so Plex has been incredible for us at home and at the office and when on the road.
needs some fixes
by kayla😀🦄🌺❄️🍭🍬🎧🎤💎 on 2020/07/26 04:20
I have been using Plex for about 1 1/2 years now and it has been great!
