I traveled 3 legs of my trip with my carryon luggage packed the same way - RAN to catch my connecting flight - missed my boarding group and the ticket counter GUY was a complete jerk about my carry on bag. He was super unprofessional - because of this guy I will consider other airlines before I fly American Airlines again!!

We paid for our bags to be checked on the app and when we tried checking them in they told us we hadn’t paid for them even after I showed them my bank statement for it. So instead of paying $60 for two bags we ended up paying 120. The lady was so rude too! Also! On the app it says they’ll try to sit you with your party if it’s possible but they separated my husband even though they could have sat us next to each other. They try to get as much money out of the customers. To our luck The people sitting next to us where with each other so we were able to swap seats. Shame on you American Airlines. I had higher expectations

The app is very difficult to navigate for new users. I can’t even figure out how to add my boarding pass to my Apple Wallet. There is no help option or FAQ to guide you either. Good luck.

Arrival at C19, Baggage Claim exit is closed you must walk over to B. Arriving at Baggage claim the Board says flight is at B1. Walked every carousel and Not one specified my Columbus flight Had to ask a luggage cart attendant and it seemed the luggage was collected and had been put in the hold area. Frustration *** I didn't walk that slow.

On July 7th, my 8 year old grandson was flying thru Charlotte to his dads & had an one hour layover. I live in Charlotte & haven’t seen him for quite some time because of the Pandemic. I drove to the airport hoping to get just a glimpse of him. Since I didn’t have a ticket, I didn’t think I would be allowed to go thru security. I asked the gentlemen at the desk if there was any way without a ticket & explained my situation .... yes! American Airlines came thru for this Grandma & he gave me a pass! My Grandson, Josh & I thank you so much! You made our day!❤️

Could use some of the added features that some of the other airlines have in their apps but this does a great job of allowing me to book flights, change flights, change seats, or just about anything I need to make my travel day easier.

Was great app until a week ago and now it might as well not be on my phone. Every time I go to log in it says that it can’t contact the server. Log on through website instead....it works fine. Whatever they did in the past week, my app stopped being useful in the middle of connecting from flight to flight. Pretty upsetting considering I travel a lot for work.

This is the worst app of any airline. Never can login successfully. Due to this frustration I removed it from my phone awhile back. Today I decided to give it another try because their website is worthless too. Still a bad app. Can you give an app less than one star?

Two biggest gripes: Calendar entries are not itinerary-aware. What I mean is if I am booking a flight with a layover, the address on the second flight is my layover airport instead of the destination airport, which would make more sense. Sounds small, but when your calendar is shared with your spouse, who is picking you up, it’s hard for a “time to leave” alert to be accurate if it’s tied to the wrong address (i.e., the layover airport). Second, the bag tracker requires me to search for my confirmation number or bag tag every time I want to check on my bag. Kind of annoying.

Baggage issues

Due to Covid cancellations for my work I needed to buy a second flight on American the same day. (First class no less) when I went to check in the agent said I could not check my bag to my final destination because it was on two tickets. (Both American Airlines) I had to claim my bag in Chicago, then recheck and go back through security. They used to do it. Other airlines do it. Do much for customer service. Luckily there are other airlines.
COVID-19 pop up broke the app

I guess there was some update that makes it so a mandatory pop up comes up when you first open the app....but you can’t close the pop up and now I can’t use the app. I can’t add my boarding pass to my phones wallet, I can’t do anything....

Tried to pre check a bag, the app failed, no receipt, the attendant at the kiosk did not find my pre check. My card was charged for both the app pre check of the bag and a second time when the attendant checked the bag to get a label to put on the bag. One bag charged twice. The card customer care doesn’t and the help to American has no response over two days. Don’t Pre check bags in this app. 7/10/2020 The connecting flight was changed before my arrival. The app did not update until I got off the plan and signed onto internet. Missed my flight. Gate A24 became C16 while I was in the air and no notification until after the flight left. Text notification did not happen until the flight left. 2 terrible experiences so far. And by the way the seats prepaid for, are lost money. The bag checked online is lost money and no receipt as the app crashed but the card was charged, and no record with the American Airlines database. 7/12/2020 7/14/2020 refunds contacted me, checked my card, the extra charge went away. Giving back a star.

Who cares what the app is like. The airline is trash. Late leaving out of Savannah because “the plane needed to be gassed up”. Wait what??! You didn’t think of that before we got on the plane?? Then we taxi forEVER because I’m sure we needed to be fit in line departing because we were late to begin with. Then we land in Dallas and taxi forEVER again and have to wait at the gate because of “gate congestion”. Which is awesome with a 6 month old. Missing flights and potentially missing b work isn’t stressful at all. Will seriously reconsider ever buying any ticket with this airline again.

They do not give you drinks or snacks and claim “SD” as the reason. They make you wear a face mask the entire flight and separate while boarding. Attendees will no longer help put your luggage overhead if you are unable so the kindness of strangers prevails, then they pack you in like sardines next to people you don’t know. They make an announcement that if you have problems with SD you can switch seats but when you ask to switch to an empty seat, they claim it’s a premium seat and costs extra—-as much as $100 just to move. Boo American Airlines. Tell me again why you can’t be served a drink on the plane?

I heard on the news that American Airlines was going to begin filling up their flights by having passengers in the middle seat. I was concerned about my safety. Surprised that didn’t happen on my trip. Everyone wore mask and were participating in social distancing. The plane had plenty of space for all passengers. Great and safe flight.

Can’t select a state so cannot complete creating an account. Obviously very low budget UX design and programming. No fields allow integration with iOS such as email address, home address, etc. This is the worst first experience with an app that I’ve ever had.

American Airlines needs a refund on the payments made to their app developers. It doesn’t even activate your keyboard when you need to type something. Isn’t that the most BASIC necessity for functionality?!?!? 😂😂😂 I’ve never seen anything quite like it! You literally can’t type anything in the app. Like ever! 🤦‍♀️🤣👋
American Airlines disappointment

My trip to durango Colorado was such a disappointment too many things went wrong -I ended up not even flying in to Durango went to Denver to keep from losing anymore vacation time since our flight was diverted the hotel they put me in was extremely bad they kept giving keys to rooms that were already occupied they gave me one voucher for taxi but morning time comes around and I had to pay to get back to airport ...very disappointed

Won’t accept phone number when signing up

Had to book a last minute flight for a family emergency early tomorrow morning and when I went to sign up for the rewards program, it told me a valid phone number contains 10 numbers. I tried to enter it a couple times (double checking each time), but it wouldn’t accept it. Phone reset + uninstalling the app etc did nothing. I had to book the flight as a guest and although the app said my flight is booked, I haven’t had my credit card charged and have not received an email and it’s been half an hour. I’m worried I won’t have proof of my flight being booked, or worse and have it not booked.

There is no option to change reservation. This is a must for COV-ID times. With countries not allowing travel, you must be able to change reservations. Waiting on hold on the reservation system for over an hour is ridiculous.

First off the airline gives zero cares about your safety. Secondly I can log in on my computer without issue. App not so much. Already deleted and not looking forward to my flight. Of American, Spirit, Southwest, Delta, Jet Blue, and Allegiant; American took the cake as worst airline that I’ve used. I don’t want to hear another joke about budget airlines like Spirit. They’re 10fold better than this company.
Flight not safe

Just got off flight 1806 (TPA-PHL). Flight attendants did NOT enforce face covering requirement. Several people as soon as they got on the plane took theirs off. Attendants walked past them several times and never said a word. However, they are packing the planes full.

App is not user friendly at all, Southwest has a much better app. Can’t tell if movies are free or not. Absolute joke. Tells you to visit a website to watch movies but I still need the app? Plane is stuck with repairs on runway. I hate this airline and app.
Baggage day

Our flight arrived at 9:48 am from MKE on July 5 at D17 and we are still sitting at baggage claim after 45 minutes. The baggage clerk says that he can’t get the guys downstairs to load the bags. He is waiting on a phone call and he has escalated his management team. Is this how you treat your loyal customers when you are needing revenue. Not a good experience. Service begins with your lowest paid team member and those are the ones that can make or break you as far as excellence in service. The pilot, agents and flight attendants can all deliver excellence but if the guy handling our personal belongings isn’t doing his best it is an overall “failed” experience! Just was disappointed on the way my trip went. Tried to book on line and was given lots of different prices. Finally reach a human who book the flight. But I did not proofread the status 15 hours to Seattle (my fault). Name some how was put in two different accounts. Finally thought I got that right. When I registered for this app. But No the spelling of my name appears on the ticket wrong but every thing else is right. As for the app it kept me calm on the 8 hour layover. First time user. Downloaded app on iOS. Tried to create account and it won’t allow a state so it won’t allow me to submit the form. When clicking on state field it spins for a couple seconds and says it is downloading state codes but then doesn’t load them. Garbage app!!!!

I’m a United Platinum or Gold for 10 straight years. Fly AA now that I am in Florida. United app has much more info! I have same info and almost same authority over my travel than UA employees. AA app not even close to United app. Hope AA improves soon.

I strongly stress to not only simplify the eCredit on both the full website and the app. I understand that the airline likely want additional revenue, but not at the expense of customers. I feel and believe that repeat customers and word of mouth is best and customers as a partner and not revenue generator. Please consider your customers.

Tried repeatedly but cannot connect to server. No "contact us" on the website; they send you too the APP which doesn't work! Effectively, AA doesn't WANT to communicate except when it suits THEM! I am getting notifications on flights that I was forced to CANX long ago, in part because AA changed my reservations to all REDEYE FLIGHTS! I have been a loyal customer but they are getting on my last nerve!

No way to upgrade to first class in app(other airline lets me do this). To upgrade to first class will cost 15K miles AND $50???? Why even have miles then? (Other airlines lets you upgrade for some flights for 4K miles and no fee). Also during COVID AA fills their planes up(no concern for safety, only profits.) Other airlines fill it 65%

This app is working well for me and easily allows me to check for updates to my itinerary. However, when I was chatting with a customer service rep (thank you for offering chat), when I tapped on the notification showing me the representative’s message to return to the chat, it took me to the front page of the AA app, and I could not return to the chat. Please fix the ability to tap on a chat notification to return to the chat.

AA App Lies About Mask “Requirement”

The app states falsely that passenger masks are “required” with limited exceptions. Lie. Plenty of passengers on my flight 6.14.20 without. I complained. Flight attendant did nothing except show me her employee manual that says AA ”requests” masks. This is an easy lie to fix. It is done knowingly by AA. Why? Why lie about the airline’s “concern” for employee and customer safety? Could it be just $ ? Duh? Despicable.
Movies not working on iPad

I’ve been flying on AA a few times over the last 4 weeks, and no matter what I do, I can’t get the “free” movies or tv series to work... it’s sure costing me plenty of nerves. Live tv on their web site is working, but for movies it directs me to connecting with WiFi on the plane from their app, only to go back to the home screen... am I missing something? Or is American trying to keep the number of movie watchers down to not have complaints about how slow their WiFi is?

Flight Attendant Experience

To be honest, I prefer flying American most of the time and usually have a pretty great experience. I find the AA team to be pretty hospitable but on my flight tonight, I was disappointed by one flight attendant. I was on AA 2236, service between LAX and DFW. Now, I am aware of the COVID situation and how this is new for all of us. This particular flight attendant was walking to collect trash and she passed our row and was taking trash from the row behind us. There was noise and shuffling around while they attempted to get their trash to her, so my husband tapped her shoulder to get her attention. He had said excuse me several times and she did not show any acknowledgment of hearing him. She turned around rudely and barked, “ I got it!”. It honestly floored me. I had never seen an attendant react so rudely. It left a bad taste in my mouth and perhaps that flight attendant should be mindful of her tone for future instances.

I had a connecting flight in PHX on my way home to Austin. The gate agents who helped me track down my valet tagged bag to ensure it was rushed + transferred to my final destination were all helpful. I don’t understand so many of these reviews complaining about so many things that I’ve 100% been able to do on this app. I can load all the boarding passes for connections on my trips (you do have to add each individual one to your wallet, but that’s not hard). The app is fairly up to date with my flight info usually. I can check in to my flights through it. I never have to look up my trips with record locators (I do always book my flights through the app though, so maybe that’s why). I love that it tracks my checked luggage, fairly accurately too. I can’t speak to the in flight entertainment, I never bother to use it. If the plane doesn’t have in seat screens, I just use my Kindle or Surface Pro to watch downloaded Netflix or Prime Video stuff. I travel frequently, almost always on AA, and it has made traveling easier for me.

I read through the reviews and took issue with most of them. People qualify themselves as frequent fliers and then mention that this app is dysfunctional...as an Executive Platinum member (i.e.- I fly), I find this app highly capable. I find it useful in every way that I need it to be. I’m able to book revenue and award tickets, I’m able to select my seats, and when my upgrade processes I’m able to recheck my seat in the new cabin. I’m able to check-in and I find the app to be very useful in receiving flight updates. My company uses concur, and the moment my flight is reserved in concur it shows up in the app. I’m able to understand if my flight may be impacted based on the app-provided “inbound” flight, and I’m able to live-track my baggage in the event that I check bags. I’m not sure what people expect from an app, but in reading the reviews it seems that people are hoping that the app somehow will solve all of their travel nightmares, but I’m afraid those are classic weather, mechanical, and customer service issues.

Unlike some others, I do find this app intuitive. Love being able to see inbound flight info, and updates for flight information is very timely. I feel like I have an inside track because in many cases, I have learned about gate changes and other info before formal announcements. Seat change requests are accurate, and I’ve never been let down. When traveling, we rely on having accurate information and having control, and this app helps me keep the stress level down because I never have to guess. Yes, sometimes the in-flight entertainment is glitchy, but I’m on a plane sharing a small network with many users so I’ve stuck to using data, only for work, and viewing downloaded movies or listening to downloaded music. There are too many other entertainment options out there these days for me to hold this against the app when that is not it’s main purpose.

This app really made my travel experience easy not just in terms of getting flight and boarding info, but also navigating unfamiliar airports quickly. I didn’t need to enter any info to have my reservation front and center, and it filtered out legs of my trip that I completed (though they’re still accessible) The app has a map of each airports on the reservation, with their terminals/gates, and marks where the gate is in the map. You can also get directions if you want to. I had very short layovers and needed to get quickly to my next gate, and this app made figuring out where and how I needed to get there effortless. In addition it shows nearby airport restaurants and other things by name on the map. Also, when browsing restaurants, it pre-filters them based on where you’re at. It even has their menus, which I appreciated b/c I eat GF and wanted to know ahead of time if it would be a waste of time to eat somewhere. The map loaded fast too, and didn’t chug when I scrolled/zoomed. The confirmation reminders helped me not forget to do it, and the boarding passes added to passbook in the proper order (small detail but other apps have messed this up or don’t add all boarding passes for a multi-leg trip). Bottom line - I always felt the most relevant info to me at the time was present, was easy to find, and never slowed me down. Best airline app experience I’ve had. Don’t change anything!

I would bet that I am in the top 1% of time spent using the app as I fly often. I have many ideas for how it can be improved, but the first would be to make it to where cash and miles redemption values are pulled, preferably shown simultaneously, at the same time like in Delta’s app. Second, multi-city search should be an absolute no-brainer. Third, adding a filter to flight results for departure time (slider), arrival time (slider), flight duration (slider), cost (slider), class (I hate that Basic Economy shows up as it makes Sorting on Price cloudy just like on the website), and connecting city (check boxes). Fourth, being able to add more the one origin airport into a search would be very convenient. Fifth, GoGo Entertainment App is a nuisance - buying WiFi and accessing entertainment during flight should all happen in-app (I’m sure this is the most difficult as info would pull from many sources.) Sixth, the boarding passes added to Apple Wallet should disappear on their own after a flight has occurred. All of the above should be the standard for an airline’s app, excluding the WiFi and Entertainment all in one place.

I use the app every week as i travel that much. Its amazing to me that after being at this for so many years, AA STILL doesn't understand what travelers need. there are many annoying things that i wish they would solve already. 1). I live in PR, the area to store my CC information does not accept PR as a state or territory for my address. PR has been part of the US for 100 years. I’ve reported it several times but they either ignore it or cant figure it out 2- the app used to have multi-city functionality, it was taken away, so, we are going backwards? 3- i often get an “error 504” when paying for tickets, its annoying as it forces one to have to start again 4- if one is traveling outside the US, it defaults to the local language, the Language chOice option is not permanent, it should allow language preference regardless if where you are. 5- luggage tags should be added to the electronic boarding pass. 6- there should be a “order of presence for CCs, meaning which ones to use first, second, etc. The list of suggestions can go on and go, but first, fix the problems.

I didn’t realize how much I love the American Airlines app until traveling on a couple different airlines recently and I really came to appreciate it. I get notified immediately through push notifications when there are any delays, flight changes, etc. and it also updates all the information on the boarding pass in my Apple wallet. I expected this from another airline and didn’t receive it - got all the way to that gate and then customer service before finding out a flight was cancelled, which never would’ve happened on American! Everything, including same day flight changes is a breeze to do in the app, and I also have been able to reschedule flights easily: I got notified that my flight delay would cause me to miss my connection and was offered other flight times that I could book immediately. Huge fan of the app and of American!!

Not living in a city that is a major hub for one airline, I frequently switch between American, United, and Delta. After booking with my company’s travel department my flights on United and Delta automatically show up in their respective Apps, along with boarding passes showing my Pre-Check status. To get a boarding pass in the American App, you will have to enter your confirmation number in the app to view your reservation, and it won’t show Pre-Check status. My Pre-Check number is in my profile and shows in the app, but according to American, because we don’t book directly with American they are unable give me boarding pass in app showing that I’m Pre-Check. This requires a trip to the Kiosk where I have to check in and manually enter my Pre-Check number and get a printed boarding pass. Push notifications are so far behind you won’t get a notice your flight is boarding until you’ve already (hopefully) landed at your destination. The one bright side is easy access to terminal maps in the app. But this app and this airline are in desperate need of an update in user friendliness.

I just opened my app in order to check in for my flight tomorrow from BOS to ORD. Upon refresh, I received a notice that they were looking for volunteers to take a different flight and wanted to know the minimum I would accept to switch. It said my choice had been noted and if needed I would be called to the desk tomorrow! Wow! That’s using technology to prevent fires instead of always fighting them. There is bad weather across the country and they are really working to prevent as much pain as possible at the airport tomorrow. I have one suggesting and this app will be simply the best in breed. For upgrades, please put the number of seats available along with the number of people checked in. That way you have a bit more of an idea if an upgrade is even possible. Currently, you can see your name of the list but not how many seats are available to begin with. Delta does this and I love it!
Becoming less useful esp on the Watch

I usually give an app 3 stars if it at least does the minimum across all platforms. This app does not execute it’s features at an acceptable level. Forgetting about the missing features (well documented in other reviews), the watch app is horrendous. It no longer has complications for Apple Watch (not Series 5 paired to to XS Max, anyway). The complication functioning correctly is incredibly important on travel days to keep current with changing gates and departure times. For as a long as I’ve been using the app (across multiple phones and watches now), the watch would usually display incorrect times after connecting in a different time zone. For example, when I go from Florida to someplace else and connect in DFW, the change in time zone wreaked havoc on the app. I would frequently be onboard my 2nd segment and the watch was telling me how long until my 1st segment had to land. That is just nuts... but that is if it would give me flight info at all. Approximately 25% of the time, nothing would update and / or I couldn’t even get my flight to come across from the phone to the watch. Seriously, AA?!

Terrible app, this isn’t very functional compared to the United app. I dropped United last year and I am a frequent flyer and now Platnium pro. The WiFi functionality in the air to stream just doesn’t work well in the app. How you have to switch back and forth multiple times going from ur WiFi settings to the app in order to play a video. U should simply be on the WiFi and then be able to select entertainment and be able to select the video all in the app. The upgrade list isn’t well done and isn’t able to be seen in real time except right before boarding. Interactive maps are terrible. Push notifications for boarding, or modifying push notifications to 15 min before boarding so you can leave the Admirals club and make it to your gate on time. Also it is a pain when ur boarding pass expires when in the air, a big problem when ur flight is delayed. I get better notifications from Kayak about my American Airlines delays and baggage claim then I get out of the American app. It is truly a disappointing app.

I’ve recently switched to flying primarily American based on the routes I fly most. Especially after reaching Gold status, when more things opened up in the app, the app experience has continued to improve. I love that I can now book my main cabin flight using my corporate card and then pay to upgrade to first using my personal card. The only issue that I run into consistently is that when I pay to upgrade my flight, I always have to re-enter my card details. The UI suggests that I should be able to use a card on file, but none of my payment methods are listed. Fixing this would make upgrading a snap!

The app did not allow me to download multiple boarding passes. I was able to download mine but not my 9 and 6 year old daughters’ passes. I went to my laptop just to see if I could get them. I had to enter unique emails for each traveler in order to receive the boarding passes electronically. Thank goodness my daughters have email accounts I thought sarcastically. The point here is why go through the hassle?! Just get the passes printed at check-in. The other issue is the constant searching for my trip with the record locator. If I have a profile in the app and online, why doesn’t the app or the full website version keep a record of my trips associated to my profile? Why do I constantly have to input my record locator to view my upcoming trip? Much like American Airlines, this process was inefficient. The airline lost my consistent business years ago. I took this trip as the low cost option against my better judgement. I guess one gets what one pays for.
Reliable app, bad video integration

Seems like most people don't know how to review an app and instead review customer service issues 😄. Here's an actual app review. Been using consistently for over a year now. Used for 70+ check-ins, TSA points, and boarding. App is reliable, updates changes in flight information quickly, sometimes even before the pilot has informed passengers. A recent update broke the "clear expired passes" feature which was useful as I am a frequent flyer that uses iOS's wallet feature a lot. Using the app for in-flight entertainment is quite atrocious. UI loops that bring you back to square one and very infrequent experiences without glitches. Most of the time it just plain doesn't work. Maybe it's the plane's servers, but c'mon...WestJet got it right, why can't American!? The most recent update killed compatibility with iOS 9. Yeah, I should update, I get it. But really, how hard is legacy support?

Not sure what the poor reviews are about... certainly more about service issues than the app itself. As a weekly AA flyer, I find the app to be very helpful and intuitive. I don’t need to dig all over like the United app. Everything is on the home screen and it’s dynamic to what I most need at that time. Favorite features are the ability to order food from restaurants at DFW and a few other airports - need more! - and see the terminal maps to plan out a quick connect. Rebooking is great when it works, many times though the rebook option doesn’t show up in app timely for me. I get the text message about a cancellation or delay and race to the app and the rebooking shows sometimes but not others. Otherwise very positive experiences with the app!

It’s always great with American airlines because they listen. I have always taken the time to communicate with American Airlines and noticed that it does work overtime. I appreciate the constant upgrades that American brings to make it better and better each time. It’s a parent did American wants to be number one and I realize they’re not perfect, they are working hard to make it the best American Airlines possible. I appreciate this so good and hopefully some integrated parts will make this a better experience. Knowing how much time it takes to develop and tweak apps and sites, I appreciate the time invested to continually give us a great experience as we fly across this country with American Airlines. Thank you once again for serving us with excellence.
App is Beautiful But Needs Multi-City Booking

Let me just say that this app is gorgeous, easy to use and man it just adhere’s to the idea of “knowing what the user wants to do before the user knows what they want to do”. The interface is simple and easy to use. Booking flights is so so easy. Now, with all of this being said, this app cannot he used for booking multi-city trips. I do wish that they would at the minimum, put a message telling the user to go online to the website in the event that a multi-city trip is desired, besides that, I have never had a single problem with the app. It has only crashed on me once in the 2+ years that I have used it, which JUST PHENOMENAL! If there is to be a hall of fame for travel apps, American Airline’s App should be in it!
Lacks important features

Frequent flyers need specific features which are just lacking in this app. It needs the ability to see ALL open seats on the flight you are on. It only shows the ones in your class. You can not tell how many seats are available for an upgrade which is something you really want to know. You have to act like you are booking a new trip on the flight you are booked on to see available first class seats. The upgrade list is not available to view until inside the 24-hour mark. Why? Other airline apps show this all along. The app will only show Admirals Club locations at airports OTHER than the one you are at if you have location tracking turned on. It will never show locations at the airport you are in. That is the only airport you care about at that moment. The only way to see the current airline locations is to turn off GPS in the app. Just bad programming. The ability to see alternate flights should be an easy thing. If your flight is delayed or cancelled I’d like to quickly and easily see options without acting like I’m booking a whole new flight which shows all flights for the day including ones that are already gone earlier in the day. There needs to be some thought and consideration for the basic needs of their frequent flyers on this app.

This app is the most complicated, non intuitive design I've ever come across. Whoever developed this app did it from a technical capability standpoint, not a user standpoint. A very common error in software development. Their business analyst or product owner should have let marketing drive the development of this app, with tons more focus group feedback from customers on what they like and don't like. If you guys want to develop a much better app, contact me ;) Trust me, you are suffering from a bad app experience, and I'd love to help. I develop software and am a certified scrum (agile methodology) master. Also, your web app encounters errors causing it to not sync with your mobile app, thus users are not getting their total miles. Your web app is not linked well to the Citi page for credit card registration. These tech issues are common in situations with a lot of technical debt. Too many corners were cut. Invest in redoing this, please. The user experience is horrible.
Unwanted seat change

I booked this flight eight months ago, at that time it was wide open, paid extra for an exit row seat towards the front of the plane as I always do because I’m 6’3” tall and don’t like squeezing into the other rows. When I checked in the day before boarding, I realized that they moved my seat out of the exit row, and to the back of the plane, right next to the toilet. When I complained at the gate, I was told there’s nothing we can do about it when there’s an equipment change. The only change I think happened is that they combined two flights and threw us anywhere they could. If I wanted to fly in a cattle car, I’d fly southwest or spirit. I don’t usually complain, but this is the second time this has happened to me on American Airlines. I may only fly a couple times a year, but I don’t think this is good customer service when I purchase my ticket 8 months in advance and then you do that. That surely isn’t selling the difference to me.

This is a useful app. However, you can’t depend on it to give you the latest up to date flight info. You can get Email notices from your ticketing, but this app doesn’t reflect the latest flight time or gate information. It always seems to be at least one update behind, even after forcing a manual refresh by swiping down. And the latest update is the only one that matters, especially when there is a gate change, or worse, an earlier departure time after a previous delay notice! This app needs to reflect the latest and most accurate flight information or it is useless. Update: now I’m waiting to boa d another flight. There has been a gate change. All the departure displays still show the old gate, the old gate still shows it’s incorrect status, and the new gate shows a different flight altogether. How is a traveler supposed to know what is the correct gate. Of course, this app is silent...

My latest complaint I will add to a long list of why this app is terrible: now every time I open the app whatever flights I have in there cause a notification to display saying FLIGHT: AA NNNN ORD to XXX Location changed to ... but the location hasn’t changed and it states this every time the app opens. EVERYTIME! I’ve long had a major problem with the way AA hides the frequent flyer info until the very end of the purchase process - then that info goes away and can never be found again. They also have a problem in the app when you are flying from East to west and cross the international date line and try to purchase a ticket for that day. Example leave ICN at night to DFW and just before landing try and purchase a ticket for DFW to anywhere. Your phone is a day ahead and they populate the date field with a calendar that won’t let you select the prior day. So you’re forced to wait until you land and your phone clock resets.
Flight Attendant Experience

To be honest, I prefer flying American most of the time and usually have a pretty great experience. I find the AA team to be pretty hospitable but on my flight tonight, I was disappointed by one flight attendant. I was on AA 2236, service between LAX and DFW. Now, I am aware of the COVID situation and how this is new for all of us. This particular flight attendant was walking to collect trash and she passed our row and was taking trash from the row behind us. There was noise and shuffling around while they attempted to get their trash to her, so my husband tapped her shoulder to get her attention. He had said excuse me several times and she did not show any acknowledgment of hearing him. She turned around rudely and barked, “ I got it!”. It honestly floored me. I had never seen an attendant react so rudely. It left a bad taste in my mouth and perhaps that flight attendant should be mindful of her tone for future instances.

The American Airlines app is an essential for traveling. It is easy to navigate, has everything that I expect to see and look for right on the home page and sync’s seamlessly across all my devices. The bonus is that that there have been many times when my flight is delayed or cancelled and the app already has a notification and allows me to select new flights right from the app. I see other people scrambling to call AA and being on hold for ever and getting frustrated. All while I’ve already been notified, changed my flight, picked my new seat, and tracked my bags. Please keep it up AA, I only hope it gets better from here.

Out of all the airports all over the world the worst service by far from American Airlines is in la Guardia Airport and Miami International, the All Seem to be in a terrible cranky mood 24/7, never are never willing to help all they do is read the rules by the book. If you are looking to get your status Gold or Platinum back... GOOD LUCK with that. Always over charging for seats even if you have status, if you don’t they charge you 90$ for an emergency exit flight from Miami to NY, almost the cost of the ticket ( doesn’t make any sense), all the flying attendants are in a bad mood ALWAYS barking orders during the flight, the have ZERO clue how to make the costumers happy. We had to do an emergency landing in Baltimore going to NY for ABSOLUTELY no reason they couldn’t they you why then made us wait almost 2 hours in Baltimore inside the plane and didn’t even bother giving us water or a cookie, when I asked for coffee they said : WE DONT HAVE COFFEE RIGHT NOW ! The only thing they have is a lot of flights everyday but no matter what you always have a terrible experience with AMERICAN AIRLINES. If you are traveling to Europe the breakfast is a muffin and fake orange juice. They are sooooooo cheap in everything they do, all the planes are old inside. IF I KEEP GOING I WILL BE HERE ALL NIGHT WRITING BAD REVIEWS. AMERICAN AIRLINES : PLEASE STEP IT UP

It’s ok when it works but you can’t do a lot of stuff on it besides getting your boarding pass and tracking baggage. It sends you to the “full” site on a browser, which ends up being just the “mobile” site that also doesn’t let you do everything. Yesterday my flight was delayed multiple times and the app had no updates except the first time the flight was delayed. We received a card with info for changing flights but the app, the website, and the phone number in the card were not much help. I did get a new flight that I was assigned but the info and seats were wrong and there was nothing I could do to change it. I had to stand in line for two hours while the app still said the boarding and take off where an hour prior to the current time. So much for new technology. You still need a live person to fix problems.

I travel weekly for work and have to use a third party to book my flights. I love that my flight reservation appears right in the app and all I have to do is “check in” when I am ready. I don’t have to enter confirmation Numbers or anything. Also, my TSA precheck icon appears right on my electronic boarding pass(no action required from me). The flight and gate updates/alerts are extremely helpful too! To have a seamless app. experience - make sure your third party travel agent is entering your American Rewards Member number and your TSA Precheck number when booking your flight. Also, I made sure that the Airlines account has my TSA precheck info as well.

This app is very basic, unimaginative and boring. Can’t check-in with it so no e-boarding pass. Rather than the flight number, would like to see my reservation numbers instead. Too much drilling down to obtain information. For example; I should be given an option to “track or get updates" on this flight am looking at in my itinerary. I’m only given three basic options (not connected to me and my itinerary) to select from on the dash board (flight status, find trip and book flights) how ‘bout a "More" option; where I can inquire about bags info., check out admiral club, etc, etc. The app also needs to offer an option to upgrade to different class seat. I can only select a different seat and pay the new price for current class only. The app developers need to take a page from United, JetBLUe and or Delta airline app(s) layout and easy of use.

Delta Airlines is my airline of choice but flew AA from Minneapolis to Aruba via Charlottesville due to the cheapest fares. I had low expectations for the AA app based on the reviews, but can say it was just fine for all the general functions I needed, including changing assigned seats (very easy) and checking in. What I found excellent and exceeding my expectations was how easy it was to rebook my return flights when my original flights were canceled due to a major snowstorm. Travel alerts texts were sent early, along with several alternate dates/flights to choose from. A few clicks and all five travelers were rebooked with confirmed seats. Excellent!!!!!

Ticket was purchased via points. Your agent scheduled my flight back with a 12 hour layover, ridiculous! I was under the impression that loyalty mattered, you don’t give the worst case scenario flight plan to people using points. I don’t expect AA to respond or even care, I will continue to use the airline because I have to not because I want to. I will however at every corner not recommend you and avoid using you, I knew I should have gone United, at least I get to walk away and know that I have learned something. As I sit here at customer assistance desk in DFW waiting for all call, because the agent was of no service, I see people switching flights for $75, yet that courtesy is not extended to me, as if I am not a customer, makes no sense! Worst rewards program ever

save your self the disappointment and go with another airline . Their rewards program is the worst out there . The bonus points you get when you sign up won’t get you down the street . I spent 20k on their credit card and after getting the points plus my bonus sign on points I could barely get a round trip ticket to two states away . They also charge $80 for each ticket you use rewards on. I looked at a $97 dollar flight and they wanted me to use 12k points and pay the $80. Unbelievable . I also have jet blue and their fee is only $14 and their points go a lot further.

I have the app set to give me banner updates, so I always know if there is a gate change or a delay. I love being able to tap the gate to see a map of the terminal; I know exactly where to go to catch my connecting flight. American lets you use on-board wireless for free when checking the app. This most recent round trip was great in terms of service, so I think American is really trying. I have had service issues in the past, but I digress. The app also lets you track your bags so you can relax after getting on your connecting flight when the app tells you your bags have been loaded.

I’m a frequent business traveler and find this app very intuitive and easy to use - it is a great centralized area of information (even going so far as to integrate travel time estimates based upon traffic to get to the airport). This is a great app - don’t pay any attention to the haters. I think too many people are writing a review here after a poor flight experience - which is completely unrelated to app design. I wish that the mileage would update faster than within 48 hours-ish of flying, but this is a function of their database update policy more than the iOS app itself.

We flew 1st class from Honolulu to LAX and had an additional economy leg to Indianapolis that when we purchased our tickets was going to depart at 8 am. The LAX to Indianapolis flight has been changed/delayed 3 times. When checking our bags at HNL, they told us that they couldn’t check our bags straight through to Indianapolis, that we would have to retrieve them from baggage claim and then recheck them. We don’t understand why since we immediately rechecked them as soon as we retrieved them from baggage claim. By making us recheck our bags, This caused us to have to go through TSA checkpoint again. In addition, flight 488 has been delayed several times ..at the time of this writing, it is over a 4 hour delay...which is too long. We choose the flight that we did so that we wouldn’t have a long layover after the long flight from Hawaii.

On a recent trip with multiple connections, this app provided good info on all those flights, the gates, and internal maps of those airports, including step by step directions for getting from arrival gate to departure gate (big help to us in LAX and DFW). It updates info such as gate changes fairly quickly when you turn off airplane mode on your device between flights. We used it to download our boarding passes to our phones in advance, and used those at all the gates. Would be nice if this app also included accurate info about meal availability for each flight.

Can you please make the confirmation number for a flight easy to see?!? Even staff at the ticket counter could not find it to try to help me with check-in and got frustrated...all to just so you can verify if my bag is small enough to fit under a seat before I even get a boarding pass because of the new cheaper fare option restrictions of online check-in. One more reason added to the list of why this airline is ranked behind the competitors and why other professional travelers often agree with me in that “ugh, American” sentiment that goes beyond the app. On the upside, good in-flight entertainment experience that doesn’t require a secondary GoGo app as Delta’s does and notifications have been well done.

The flight was pleasant ; however, the service was not great. After the pilot made announcement that flight attendants prepare for take off. Male flight attendant who assigned to serve in the main cabin walked by and a female passenger who sat in front of us in 18C had her back seat laid back and he ignored us regardless of my husband and I waiving at him to correct the matter. His hand touched the back of her seat and not noticed it was in incorrect position for landing as a professionally trained flight attendant. We landed with her back seat pushed against us and I pumped my head twice trying to retrieve personal belongings under the seat. I am not asking for compensation but flight attendants should pay more attention to avoid unnecessary incidents. Please let me know if you need a copy of the photo during landing.

Have just returned from Vietnam. Six flights including four on japan airlines partner in Tokyo and Hanoi. Staff was all helpful and friendly. Good food and large bathrooms with bidet on JAL. On USA flights from Dfw and Boston all staff including ticketing to baggage and in air attendants were super. Wish Dfw to clt plane had usb ChargePoint but otherwise gft2u trip. One hitch was bad weather in Dfw caused our luggage to miss connections. But Anthony located bags and they are to be delivered soon. We have over 200,000 miles with aa and two aa advantage cards and love American. Fantastic staff and caring people. I use wheelchair and staff goes overboard to help with my carry on and spect request. I’m an aa customer for life. Mike in hickory. Thanks

The anxiety caused by airport travel has only gotten worse over time. I was excited to not have to print out paperwork and constantly be concerned about loosing it. The app is unintuitive for casual fliers. The check-in kiosk would never read our QR codes so I was glad we always printed out the paperwork. Very frustrating and disappointing that app didn’t seem to work. Eventually an airline rep told us with the electronic boarding pass we could bypass the kiosk and go straight to TSA Pre-Check. We wish we had known that on previous flights. It will be timesaver on future trips. I’m very happy not to have paper documents to keep track of! I can’t speak about how it handles flight delays or gate changes. The iMessage portion of the app is unnecessary but adds a little fun back into travel.
App is unstable

I have had a consistently bad experience with this app over several generations of iPhones, IOS updates and app versions. For the past two years, the app consistently tells me that there is no internet connection, and is unable to function, despite having a full connection, be it WiFi or Cellular. It shows this error over and over again even after erasing and downloading the app, logging out and relogging back in, and even as I have updated the phone itself from iPhone 7 through the X. Sometimes the app works for a week, then the error suddenly comes back and it no longer works. This is definitely not a user error, the app is technically flawed. As a technology executive and very frequent traveler, I am astonished how AA has permitted this glaring performance issue to persist for so long.

Easiest of all so far to get boarding passes and put them on Wallet. But, my flight was only a single destination and return. If is true that having a more complex flight involves two searches, That is a negative. Our negative was the my wife’s boarding pass was not accepted at the gate, although it had been at the baggage pickup. Tried to redownload it, but ended up having to get her a printed one. Luckily, The Philadelphia airport made that easy for those with Precheck, but could have been a real problem. Have never had that problem with other airlines. Attendant said “happens sometimes”. Needs to work with Apple Pay and be able to pay for luggage without getting out credit card.

I have been late on over 85% of my flights , the American website propaganda shows not late a all so I am guessing the window used is if flight leaves within 24 hours maybe AA doesn’t consider it late? I have hundreds of flights per year every year and since the USAir purchased the failed bankrupt American- I thought American would get better , it appears it has adopted the failed practices that left AA bankrupt and no one cares, the last flight was another incompetent flight waited 3 hours and 45 minutes at the gate on board the plane because the caterer took all 4 trash cans - REALLY! If my job did this continuously we would be out of business , the issue is deeper than just late flights, please call or email me anytime if you want the 300 excuses I have been giving just this past year

I fly a lot, on all the different airlines. I’ve never had as many problems with an airline app as I do with this one. It won’t track my bags accurately, it doesn’t refresh, it can’t tell me anything useful without redirecting me to the mobile website (which is NOT mobile friendly). It won’t let me see my boarding passes or change my seat assignment or even see any of the flight details, like how long the flight is or if a meal is included. It’s not user friendly, it constantly “loses” my information and makes me log in again and add my trip again. And worst of all it locks me out of my AAdvantage account repeatedly, saying I’ve input the “wrong password” more than 6 times, and then I have to call customer service and they never have a long-term solution for me. I hate using this app.

Just was disappointed on the way my trip went. Tried to book on line and was given lots of different prices. Finally reach a human who book the flight. But I did not proofread the status 15 hours to Seattle (my fault). Name some how was put in two different accounts. Finally thought I got that right. When I registered for this app. But No the spelling of my name appears on the ticket wrong but every thing else is right. As for the app it kept me calm on the 8 hour layover. This app is useful, but only if you have perfect network conditions. It is very, very bad at recovering from loss of network (or even going into airplane mode, which you might recognize as use case for literally everyone who flies on an airplane). The app recently refused to update gate information after regaining network connectivity from my last flight. While other apps (and even the mobile boarding pass) had no problems getting updates, even a manual refresh in this app refused to update the info, which I relied on as a source of truth for where my next flight would be. Moral of the story: Don’t rely on this app for up to date flight info, which I would assume is a basic requirement for an app like this.

-inaccurate if there’s any flight changes -doesn’t send you text notifications till way too late -erases my flight information I enter when I get off the tab, making it ridiculously hard to keep constant track I flew from California to Michigan and back again with a total of 3 layovers with this airline and this app. It was terrible. Most of my flights were delayed. And every time the app and the screen at the gate didn’t give the accurate information. It would say it was departing on time at 805pm when the time was 810pm. My flight was canceled and I’m waiting in a massive line to rebook. You would think they would be more tech and information savvy at this point in time. Very disappointed.

What a bad experience with this company, I don’t have words to describe what I felt the past August 7 th, 2018, a day I would never forget. On my way to Cuba at the “plane door” a representative told me that my carry on bag which one passed the requirements to travel with me, had to go in the hold of the plane not with me because there was not more space on the cabin. Me and a few people were too disappointed with that news many started complaining but there was not option. Once I get home I realized that someone stole things from my suitcase ( valuable things ) I returned to the airport and they only filled out a claim, nothing else. At this time I haven’t received a solution even though I have evidences. NO BODY CARES, and because of that I WOULD NEVER EVER GOINT TO TRAVEL WITH AMERICAN AIRLINES AGAIN ON MY LIFE👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻
Compatibility fixes needed

This has been a reasonably reliable app until recent updates killed its compatibility with older versions of iOS - I do not always update my iOS immediately when the latest version is released. Come on American developers... If you want us using your App then please verify compatibility when releasing updates. Other nice to haves would be automatically updating your flight reservation data when opening the app (you have to manually thumb down on screen to update). More functionality from the full website such as viewing available seats and making changes would also be helpful. Or maybe I just should use the full website instead of the newly released weak app...

Currently still sitting on a plane in Charlotte, NC. Should have left at 9:38am. Sat on the plane at the gate for 30 minutes. Pilot said we were waiting for clearance. Finally left the gate and went to where the fed ex planes were parked. Sat there for another hour. Pilot then tells us there is a water pressure issue with the plane and we must return to the gate. We are now 2 hours on the plane. We get back to the gate, the pilot tells us the water problem is now fixed but the crew has to be replaced!!! We get off the plane for 20 minutes, then get back on the same plane... with you guessed it... the same crew!!!!!! The pilot now tells us he will delay our flight another few minutes so they can bring meals on for us to BUY! Are you kidding me! 3 hours of BS and they want us to purchase meals.

I traveled 3 legs of my trip with my carryon luggage packed the same way - RAN to catch my connecting flight - missed my boarding group and the ticket counter GUY was a complete jerk about my carry on bag. He was super unprofessional - because of this guy I will consider other airlines before I fly American Airlines again!!

We paid for our bags to be checked on the app and when we tried checking them in they told us we hadn’t paid for them even after I showed them my bank statement for it. So instead of paying $60 for two bags we ended up paying 120. The lady was so rude too! Also! On the app it says they’ll try to sit you with your party if it’s possible but they separated my husband even though they could have sat us next to each other. They try to get as much money out of the customers. To our luck The people sitting next to us where with each other so we were able to swap seats. Shame on you American Airlines. I had higher expectations

Arrival at C19, Baggage Claim exit is closed you must walk over to B. Arriving at Baggage claim the Board says flight is at B1. Walked every carousel and Not one specified my Columbus flight Had to ask a luggage cart attendant and it seemed the luggage was collected and had been put in the hold area. Frustration *** I didn't walk that slow.

On July 7th, my 8 year old grandson was flying thru Charlotte to his dads & had an one hour layover. I live in Charlotte & haven’t seen him for quite some time because of the Pandemic. I drove to the airport hoping to get just a glimpse of him. Since I didn’t have a ticket, I didn’t think I would be allowed to go thru security. I asked the gentlemen at the desk if there was any way without a ticket & explained my situation .... yes! American Airlines came thru for this Grandma & he gave me a pass! My Grandson, Josh & I thank you so much! You made our day!❤️

Was great app until a week ago and now it might as well not be on my phone. Every time I go to log in it says that it can’t contact the server. Log on through website instead....it works fine. Whatever they did in the past week, my app stopped being useful in the middle of connecting from flight to flight. Pretty upsetting considering I travel a lot for work.

Two biggest gripes: Calendar entries are not itinerary-aware. What I mean is if I am booking a flight with a layover, the address on the second flight is my layover airport instead of the destination airport, which would make more sense. Sounds small, but when your calendar is shared with your spouse, who is picking you up, it’s hard for a “time to leave” alert to be accurate if it’s tied to the wrong address (i.e., the layover airport). Second, the bag tracker requires me to search for my confirmation number or bag tag every time I want to check on my bag. Kind of annoying.

Baggage issues

Due to Covid cancellations for my work I needed to buy a second flight on American the same day. (First class no less) when I went to check in the agent said I could not check my bag to my final destination because it was on two tickets. (Both American Airlines) I had to claim my bag in Chicago, then recheck and go back through security. They used to do it. Other airlines do it. Do much for customer service. Luckily there are other airlines.
COVID-19 pop up broke the app

I guess there was some update that makes it so a mandatory pop up comes up when you first open the app....but you can’t close the pop up and now I can’t use the app. I can’t add my boarding pass to my phones wallet, I can’t do anything....
Baggage check broken on previous version 7/8/20

Tried to pre check a bag, the app failed, no receipt, the attendant at the kiosk did not find my pre check. My card was charged for both the app pre check of the bag and a second time when the attendant checked the bag to get a label to put on the bag. One bag charged twice. The card customer care doesn’t and the help to American has no response over two days. Don’t Pre check bags in this app. 7/10/2020 The connecting flight was changed before my arrival. The app did not update until I got off the plan and signed onto internet. Missed my flight. Gate A24 became C16 while I was in the air and no notification until after the flight left. Text notification did not happen until the flight left. 2 terrible experiences so far. And by the way the seats prepaid for, are lost money. The bag checked online is lost money and no receipt as the app crashed but the card was charged, and no record with the American Airlines database. 7/12/2020 7/14/2020 refunds contacted me, checked my card, the extra charge went away. Giving back a star.

Who cares what the app is like. The airline is trash. Late leaving out of Savannah because “the plane needed to be gassed up”. Wait what??! You didn’t think of that before we got on the plane?? Then we taxi forEVER because I’m sure we needed to be fit in line departing because we were late to begin with. Then we land in Dallas and taxi forEVER again and have to wait at the gate because of “gate congestion”. Which is awesome with a 6 month old. Missing flights and potentially missing b work isn’t stressful at all. Will seriously reconsider ever buying any ticket with this airline again.

They do not give you drinks or snacks and claim “SD” as the reason. They make you wear a face mask the entire flight and separate while boarding. Attendees will no longer help put your luggage overhead if you are unable so the kindness of strangers prevails, then they pack you in like sardines next to people you don’t know. They make an announcement that if you have problems with SD you can switch seats but when you ask to switch to an empty seat, they claim it’s a premium seat and costs extra—-as much as $100 just to move. Boo American Airlines. Tell me again why you can’t be served a drink on the plane?

I heard on the news that American Airlines was going to begin filling up their flights by having passengers in the middle seat. I was concerned about my safety. Surprised that didn’t happen on my trip. Everyone wore mask and were participating in social distancing. The plane had plenty of space for all passengers. Great and safe flight.

American Airlines needs a refund on the payments made to their app developers. It doesn’t even activate your keyboard when you need to type something. My trip to durango Colorado was such a disappointment too many things went wrong -I ended up not even flying in to Durango went to Denver to keep from losing anymore vacation time since our flight was diverted the hotel they put me in was extremely bad they kept giving keys to rooms that were already occupied they gave me one voucher for taxi but morning time comes around and I had to pay to get back to airport ...very disappointed

Would have given 5 stars but since Covid won’t let me check in. Acts as if I never did it. Awesome app but has new appearing bugs that blow it completely. As an Exec Plat this is really important (boarding passes) and this is a shame.

Had to book a last minute flight for a family emergency early tomorrow morning and when I went to sign up for the rewards program, it told me a valid phone number contains 10 numbers. I tried to enter it a couple times (double checking each time), but it wouldn’t accept it. Phone reset + uninstalling the app etc did nothing. I had to book the flight as a guest and although the app said my flight is booked, I haven’t had my credit card charged and have not received an email and it’s been half an hour. I’m worried I won’t have proof of my flight being booked, or worse and have it not booked.

There is no option to change reservation. This is a must for COV-ID times. With countries not allowing travel, you must be able to change reservations. Waiting on hold on the reservation system for over an hour is ridiculous.

First off the airline gives zero cares about your safety. Secondly I can log in on my computer without issue. App not so much. Already deleted and not looking forward to my flight. Of American, Spirit, Southwest, Delta, Jet Blue, and Allegiant; American took the cake as worst airline that I’ve used. I don’t want to hear another joke about budget airlines like Spirit. They’re 10fold better than this company.

Just got off flight 1806 (TPA-PHL). Flight attendants did NOT enforce face covering requirement. Several people as soon as they got on the plane took theirs off. Attendants walked past them several times and never said a word. However, they are packing the planes full.

Baggage day

Our flight arrived at 9:48 am from MKE on July 5 at D17 and we are still sitting at baggage claim after 45 minutes. The baggage clerk says that he can’t get the guys downstairs to load the bags. He is waiting on a phone call and he has escalated his management team. Is this how you treat your loyal customers when you are needing revenue. Not a good experience. Service begins with your lowest paid team member and those are the ones that can make or break you as far as excellence in service. The pilot, agents and flight attendants can all deliver excellence but if the guy handling our personal belongings isn’t doing his best it is an overall “failed” experience! Just was disappointed on the way my trip went. Tried to book on line and was given lots of different prices. Finally reach a human who book the flight. But I did not proofread the status 15 hours to Seattle (my fault). Name some how was put in two different accounts. Finally thought I got that right. When I registered for this app. But No the spelling of my name appears on the ticket wrong but every thing else is right. As for the app it kept me calm on the 8 hour layover. First time user. Downloaded app on iOS. Tried to create account and it won’t allow a state so it won’t allow me to submit the form. When clicking on state field it spins for a couple seconds and says it is downloading state codes but then doesn’t load them. Garbage app!!!!

I strongly stress to not only simplify the eCredit on both the full website and the app. I understand that the airline likely want additional revenue, but not at the expense of customers. Tried repeatedly but cannot connect to server. No "contact us" on the website; they send you too the APP which doesn't work! Effectively, AA doesn't WANT to communicate except when it suits THEM! I am getting notifications on flights that I was forced to CANX long ago, in part because AA changed my reservations to all REDEYE FLIGHTS! I have been a loyal customer but they are getting on my last nerve!

No way to upgrade to first class in app(other airline lets me do this). To upgrade to first class will cost 15K miles AND $50???? Why even have miles then? (Other airlines lets you upgrade for some flights for 4K miles and no fee). Also during COVID AA fills their planes up(no concern for safety, only profits.) Other airlines fill it 65%

This app is working well for me and easily allows me to check for updates to my itinerary. However, when I was chatting with a customer service rep (thank you for offering chat), when I tapped on the notification showing me the representative’s message to return to the chat, it took me to the front page of the AA app, and I could not return to the chat. Please fix the ability to tap on a chat notification to return to the chat.

AA App Lies About Mask “Requirement”

The app states falsely that passenger masks are “required” with limited exceptions. Lie. Plenty of passengers on my flight 6.14.20 without. I complained. Flight attendant did nothing except show me her employee manual that says AA ”requests” masks. This is an easy lie to fix. It is done knowingly by AA. Why? Why lie about the airline’s “concern” for employee and customer safety? Could it be just $ ? Duh? Despicable.

I’ve been flying on AA a few times over the last 4 weeks, and no matter what I do, I can’t get the “free” movies or tv series to work... it’s sure costing me plenty of nerves. Live tv on their web site is working, but for movies it directs me to connecting with WiFi on the plane from their app, only to go back to the home screen... am I missing something? Or is American trying to keep the number of movie watchers down to not have complaints about how slow their WiFi is?

To be honest, I prefer flying American most of the time and usually have a pretty great experience. I find the AA team to be pretty hospitable but on my flight tonight, I was disappointed by one flight attendant. I was on AA 2236, service between LAX and DFW. Now, I am aware of the COVID situation and how this is new for all of us. This particular flight attendant was walking to collect trash and she passed our row and was taking trash from the row behind us. There was noise and shuffling around while they attempted to get their trash to her, so my husband tapped her shoulder to get her attention. He had said excuse me several times and she did not show any acknowledgment of hearing him. She turned around rudely and barked, “ I got it!”. It honestly floored me. I had never seen an attendant react so rudely. It left a bad taste in my mouth and perhaps that flight attendant should be mindful of her tone for future instances.

One gate agent in particular went above and beyond in providing excellent customer service — her communication and follow-through were much appreciated. Thank you AA crew and staff! I don’t understand so many of these reviews complaining about so many things that I’ve 100% been able to do on this app. I can load all the boarding passes for connections on my trips (you do have to add each individual one to your wallet, but that’s not hard). The app is fairly up to date with my flight info usually. I can check in to my flights through it. I never have to look up my trips with record locators (I do always book my flights through the app though, so maybe that’s why). I love that it tracks my checked luggage, fairly accurately too. I can’t speak to the in flight entertainment, I never bother to use it. If the plane doesn’t have in seat screens, I just use my Kindle or Surface Pro to watch downloaded Netflix or Prime Video stuff. I travel frequently, almost always on AA, and it has made traveling easier for me.

I read through the reviews and took issue with most of them. People qualify themselves as frequent fliers and then mention that this app is dysfunctional...as an Executive Platinum member (i.e.- I fly), I find this app highly capable. I find it useful in every way that I need it to be. I’m able to book revenue and award tickets, I’m able to select my seats, and when my upgrade processes I’m able to recheck my seat in the new cabin. I’m able to check-in and I find the app to be very useful in receiving flight updates. My company uses concur, and the moment my flight is reserved in concur it shows up in the app. I’m able to understand if my flight may be impacted based on the app-provided “inbound” flight, and I’m able to live-track my baggage in the event that I check bags. I’m not sure what people expect from an app, but in reading the reviews it seems that people are hoping that the app somehow will solve all of their travel nightmares, but I’m afraid those are classic weather, mechanical, and customer service issues.

Unlike some others, I do find this app intuitive. Love being able to see inbound flight info, and updates for flight information is very timely. I feel like I have an inside track because in many cases, I have learned about gate changes and other info before formal announcements. Seat change requests are accurate, and I’ve never been let down. When traveling, we rely on having accurate information and having control, and this app helps me keep the stress level down because I never have to guess. Yes, sometimes the in-flight entertainment is glitchy, but I’m on a plane sharing a small network with many users so I’ve stuck to using data, only for work, and viewing downloaded movies or listening to downloaded music. There are too many other entertainment options out there these days for me to hold this against the app when that is not it’s main purpose.

This app really made my travel experience easy not just in terms of getting flight and boarding info, but also navigating unfamiliar airports quickly. I didn’t need to enter any info to have my reservation front and center, and it filtered out legs of my trip that I completed (though they’re still accessible) The app has a map of each airports on the reservation, with their terminals/gates, and marks where the gate is in the map. You can also get directions if you want to. I had very short layovers and needed to get quickly to my next gate, and this app made figuring out where and how I needed to get there effortless. In addition it shows nearby airport restaurants and other things by name on the map. Also, when browsing restaurants, it pre-filters them based on where you’re at. It even has their menus, which I appreciated b/c I eat GF and wanted to know ahead of time if it would be a waste of time to eat somewhere. The map loaded fast too, and didn’t chug when I scrolled/zoomed. The confirmation reminders helped me not forget to do it, and the boarding passes added to passbook in the proper order (small detail but other apps have messed this up or don’t add all boarding passes for a multi-leg trip). Bottom line - I always felt the most relevant info to me at the time was present, was easy to find, and never slowed me down. Best airline app experience I’ve had. Don’t change anything!
Very Little Versatility

I would bet that I am in the top 1% of time spent using the app as I fly often. I have many ideas for how it can be improved, but the first would be to make it to where cash and miles redemption values are pulled, preferably shown simultaneously, at the same time like in Delta’s app. Second, multi-city search should be an absolute no-brainer. Third, adding a filter to flight results for departure time (slider), arrival time (slider), flight duration (slider), cost (slider), class (I hate that Basic Economy shows up as it makes Sorting on Price cloudy just like on the website), and connecting city (check boxes). Fourth, being able to add more the one origin airport into a search would be very convenient. Fifth, GoGo Entertainment App is a nuisance - buying WiFi and accessing entertainment during flight should all happen in-app (I’m sure this is the most difficult as info would pull from many sources.) Sixth, the boarding passes added to Apple Wallet should disappear on their own after a flight has occurred. All of the above should be the standard for an airline’s app, excluding the WiFi and Entertainment all in one place.

I use the app every week as i travel that much. Its amazing to me that after being at this for so many years, AA STILL doesn't understand what travelers need. there are many annoying things that i wish they would solve already. 1). I live in PR, the area to store my CC information does not accept PR as a state or territory for my address. PR has been part of the US for 100 years. I’ve reported it several times but they either ignore it or cant figure it out 2- the app used to have multi-city functionality, it was taken away, so, we are going backwards? 3- i often get an “error 504” when paying for tickets, its annoying as it forces one to have to start again 4- if one is traveling outside the US, it defaults to the local language, the Language chOice option is not permanent, it should allow language preference regardless if where you are. 5- luggage tags should be added to the electronic boarding pass. 6- there should be a “order of presence for CCs, meaning which ones to use first, second, etc. The list of suggestions can go on and go, but first, fix the problems.

I didn’t realize how much I love the American Airlines app until traveling on a couple different airlines recently and I really came to appreciate it. I get notified immediately through push notifications when there are any delays, flight changes, etc. and it also updates all the information on the boarding pass in my Apple wallet. I expected this from another airline and didn’t receive it - got all the way to that gate and then customer service before finding out a flight was cancelled, which never would’ve happened on American! Everything, including same day flight changes is a breeze to do in the app, and I also have been able to reschedule flights easily: I got notified that my flight delay would cause me to miss my connection and was offered other flight times that I could book immediately. Huge fan of the app and of American!!

Not living in a city that is a major hub for one airline, I frequently switch between American, United, and Delta. After booking with my company’s travel department my flights on United and Delta automatically show up in their respective Apps, along with boarding passes showing my Pre-Check status. To get a boarding pass in the American App, you will have to enter your confirmation number in the app to view your reservation, and it won’t show Pre-Check status. My Pre-Check number is in my profile and shows in the app, but according to American, because we don’t book directly with American they are unable give me boarding pass in app showing that I’m Pre-Check. This requires a trip to the Kiosk where I have to check in and manually enter my Pre-Check number and get a printed boarding pass. Push notifications are so far behind you won’t get a notice your flight is boarding until you’ve already (hopefully) landed at your destination. The one bright side is easy access to terminal maps in the app. But this app and this airline are in desperate need of an update in user friendliness.

I just opened my app in order to check in for my flight tomorrow from BOS to ORD. Upon refresh, I received a notice that they were looking for volunteers to take a different flight and wanted to know the minimum I would accept to switch. It said my choice had been noted and if needed I would be called to the desk tomorrow! Wow! That’s using technology to prevent fires instead of always fighting them. There is bad weather across the country and they are really working to prevent as much pain as possible at the airport tomorrow. I have one suggesting and this app will be simply the best in breed. For upgrades, please put the number of seats available along with the number of people checked in. That way you have a bit more of an idea if an upgrade is even possible. Currently, you can see your name of the list but not how many seats are available to begin with. Delta does this and I love it!
Becoming less useful esp on the Watch

I usually give an app 3 stars if it at least does the minimum across all platforms. This app does not execute it’s features at an acceptable level. Forgetting about the missing features (well documented in other reviews), the watch app is horrendous. It no longer has complications for Apple Watch (not Series 5 paired to to XS Max, anyway). The complication functioning correctly is incredibly important on travel days to keep current with changing gates and departure times. For as a long as I’ve been using the app (across multiple phones and watches now), the watch would usually display incorrect times after connecting in a different time zone. For example, when I go from Florida to someplace else and connect in DFW, the change in time zone wreaked havoc on the app. I would frequently be onboard my 2nd segment and the watch was telling me how long until my 1st segment had to land. That is just nuts... but that is if it would give me flight info at all. Approximately 25% of the time, nothing would update and / or I couldn’t even get my flight to come across from the phone to the watch. Seriously, AA?!

Terrible app, this isn’t very functional compared to the United app. I dropped United last year and I am a frequent flyer and now Platnium pro. The WiFi functionality in the air to stream just doesn’t work well in the app. How you have to switch back and forth multiple times going from ur WiFi settings to the app in order to play a video. U should simply be on the WiFi and then be able to select entertainment and be able to select the video all in the app. The upgrade list isn’t well done and isn’t able to be seen in real time except right before boarding. Interactive maps are terrible. Push notifications for boarding, or modifying push notifications to 15 min before boarding so you can leave the Admirals club and make it to your gate on time. Also it is a pain when ur boarding pass expires when in the air, a big problem when ur flight is delayed. I get better notifications from Kayak about my American Airlines delays and baggage claim then I get out of the American app. It is truly a disappointing app.

I’ve recently switched to flying primarily American based on the routes I fly most. Especially after reaching Gold status, when more things opened up in the app, the app experience has continued to improve. I love that I can now book my main cabin flight using my corporate card and then pay to upgrade to first using my personal card. The only issue that I run into consistently is that when I pay to upgrade my flight, I always have to re-enter my card details. The UI suggests that I should be able to use a card on file, but none of my payment methods are listed. Fixing this would make upgrading a snap!

The app did not allow me to download multiple boarding passes. I was able to download mine but not my 9 and 6 year old daughters’ passes. I went to my laptop just to see if I could get them. I had to enter unique emails for each traveler in order to receive the boarding passes electronically. Thank goodness my daughters have email accounts I thought sarcastically. The point here is why go through the hassle?! Just get the passes printed at check-in. The other issue is the constant searching for my trip with the record locator. If I have a profile in the app and online, why doesn’t the app or the full website version keep a record of my trips associated to my profile? Why do I constantly have to input my record locator to view my upcoming trip? Much like American Airlines, this process was inefficient. The airline lost my consistent business years ago. Reliable app, bad video integration

Seems like most people don't know how to review an app and instead review customer service issues 😄. Here's an actual app review. Been using consistently for over a year now. Used for 70+ check-ins, TSA points, and boarding. App is reliable, updates changes in flight information quickly, sometimes even before the pilot has informed passengers. A recent update broke the "clear expired passes" feature which was useful as I am a frequent flyer that uses iOS's wallet feature a lot. Using the app for in-flight entertainment is quite atrocious. UI loops that bring you back to square one and very infrequent experiences without glitches. Most of the time it just plain doesn't work. Maybe it's the plane's servers, but c'mon...WestJet got it right, why can't American!? The most recent update killed compatibility with iOS 9. Yeah, I should update, I get it. But really, how hard is legacy support?
Great app on day of travel

Not sure what the poor reviews are about... certainly more about service issues than the app itself. As a weekly AA flyer, I find the app to be very helpful and intuitive. I don’t need to dig all over like the United app. Everything is on the home screen and it’s dynamic to what I most need at that time. Favorite features are the ability to order food from restaurants at DFW and a few other airports - need more! - and see the terminal maps to plan out a quick connect. Rebooking is great when it works, many times though the rebook option doesn’t show up in app timely for me. I get the text message about a cancellation or delay and race to the app and the rebooking shows sometimes but not others. Otherwise very positive experiences with the app!

It’s always great with American airlines because they listen. I have always taken the time to communicate with American Airlines and noticed that it does work overtime. I appreciate the constant upgrades that American brings to make it better and better each time. It’s a parent did American wants to be number one and I realize they’re not perfect, they are working hard to make it the best American Airlines possible. I appreciate this so good and hopefully some integrated parts will make this a better experience. Knowing how much time it takes to develop and tweak apps and sites, I appreciate the time invested to continually give us a great experience as we fly across this country with American Airlines. Thank you once again for serving us with excellence.
App is Beautiful But Needs Multi-City Booking

Let me just say that this app is gorgeous, easy to use and man it just adhere’s to the idea of “knowing what the user wants to do before the user knows what they want to do”. The interface is simple and easy to use. Booking flights is so so easy. Now, with all of this being said, this app cannot he used for booking multi-city trips. I do wish that they would at the minimum, put a message telling the user to go online to the website in the event that a multi-city trip is desired, besides that, I have never had a single problem with the app. It has only crashed on me once in the 2+ years that I have used it, which JUST PHENOMENAL! If there is to be a hall of fame for travel apps, American Airline’s App should be in it!
Lacks important features

Frequent flyers need specific features which are just lacking in this app. It needs the ability to see ALL open seats on the flight you are on. It only shows the ones in your class. You can not tell how many seats are available for an upgrade which is something you really want to know. You have to act like you are booking a new trip on the flight you are booked on to see available first class seats. The upgrade list is not available to view until inside the 24-hour mark. Why? Other airline apps show this all along. The app will only show Admirals Club locations at airports OTHER than the one you are at if you have location tracking turned on. It will never show locations at the airport you are in. That is the only airport you care about at that moment. The only way to see the current airline locations is to turn off GPS in the app. Just bad programming. The ability to see alternate flights should be an easy thing. If your flight is delayed or cancelled I’d like to quickly and easily see options without acting like I’m booking a whole new flight which shows all flights for the day including ones that are already gone earlier in the day. There needs to be some thought and consideration for the basic needs of their frequent flyers on this app.

This app is the most complicated, non intuitive design I've ever come across. Whoever developed this app did it from a technical capability standpoint, not a user standpoint. A very common error in software development. Their business analyst or product owner should have let marketing drive the development of this app, with tons more focus group feedback from customers on what they like and don't like. If you guys want to develop a much better app, contact me ;) Trust me, you are suffering from a bad app experience, and I'd love to help. I develop software and am a certified scrum (agile methodology) master. Also, your web app encounters errors causing it to not sync with your mobile app, thus users are not getting their total miles. Your web app is not linked well to the Citi page for credit card registration. These tech issues are common in situations with a lot of technical debt. Too many corners were cut. Invest in redoing this, please. The user experience is horrible.
Unwanted seat change

I booked this flight eight months ago, at that time it was wide open, paid extra for an exit row seat towards the front of the plane as I always do because I’m 6’3” tall and don’t like squeezing into the other rows. When I checked in the day before boarding, I realized that they moved my seat out of the exit row, and to the back of the plane, right next to the toilet. When I complained at the gate, I was told there’s nothing we can do about it when there’s an equipment change. The only change I think happened is that they combined two flights and threw us anywhere they could. If I wanted to fly in a cattle car, I’d fly southwest or spirit. I don’t usually complain, but this is the second time this has happened to me on American Airlines. I may only fly a couple times a year, but I don’t think this is good customer service when I purchase my ticket 8 months in advance and then you do that. That surely isn’t selling the difference to me.
Not uptodate flight & gate notifications!

This is a useful app. However, you can’t depend on it to give you the latest up to date flight info. You can get Email notices from your ticketing, but this app doesn’t reflect the latest flight time or gate information. It always seems to be at least one update behind, even after forcing a manual refresh by swiping down. And the latest update is the only one that matters, especially when there is a gate change, or worse, an earlier departure time after a previous delay notice! This app needs to reflect the latest and most accurate flight information or it is useless. Update: now I’m waiting to boa d another flight. There has been a gate change. All the departure displays still show the old gate, the old gate still shows it’s incorrect status, and the new gate shows a different flight altogether. How is a traveler supposed to know what is the correct gate. Of course, this app is silent...
Most annoying app ever!

My latest complaint I will add to a long list of why this app is terrible: now every time I open the app whatever flights I have in there cause a notification to display saying FLIGHT: AA NNNN ORD to XXX Location changed to ... but the location hasn’t changed and it states this every time the app opens. EVERYTIME! I’ve long had a major problem with the way AA hides the frequent flyer info until the very end of the purchase process - then that info goes away and can never be found again. They also have a problem in the app when you are flying from East to west and cross the international date line and try to purchase a ticket for that day. Example leave ICN at night to DFW and just before landing try and purchase a ticket for DFW to anywhere. Your phone is a day ahead and they populate the date field with a calendar that won’t let you select the prior day. So you’re forced to wait until you land and your phone clock resets.

To be honest, I prefer flying American most of the time and usually have a pretty great experience. I find the AA team to be pretty hospitable but on my flight tonight, I was disappointed by one flight attendant. I was on AA 2236, service between LAX and DFW. Now, I am aware of the COVID situation and how this is new for all of us. This particular flight attendant was walking to collect trash and she passed our row and was taking trash from the row behind us. There was noise and shuffling around while they attempted to get their trash to her, so my husband tapped her shoulder to get her attention. He had said excuse me several times and she did not show any acknowledgment of hearing him. She turned around rudely and barked, “ I got it!”. It honestly floored me. I had never seen an attendant react so rudely. It left a bad taste in my mouth and perhaps that flight attendant should be mindful of her tone for future instances.

The American Airlines app is an essential for traveling. It is easy to navigate, has everything that I expect to see and look for right on the home page and sync’s seamlessly across all my devices. The bonus is that that there have been many times when my flight is delayed or cancelled and the app already has a notification and allows me to select new flights right from the app. I see other people scrambling to call AA and being on hold for ever and getting frustrated. All while I’ve already been notified, changed my flight, picked my new seat, and tracked my bags. Please keep it up AA, I only hope it gets better from here.

Out of all the airports all over the world the worst service by far from American Airlines is in la Guardia Airport and Miami International, the All Seem to be in a terrible cranky mood 24/7, never are never willing to help all they do is read the rules by the book. If you are looking to get your status Gold or Platinum back... GOOD LUCK with that. Always over charging for seats even if you have status, if you don’t they charge you 90$ for an emergency exit flight from Miami to NY, almost the cost of the ticket ( doesn’t make any sense), all the flying attendants are in a bad mood ALWAYS barking orders during the flight, the have ZERO clue how to make the costumers happy. We had to do an emergency landing in Baltimore going to NY for ABSOLUTELY no reason they couldn’t they you why then made us wait almost 2 hours in Baltimore inside the plane and didn’t even bother giving us water or a cookie, when I asked for coffee they said : WE DONT HAVE COFFEE RIGHT NOW ! The only thing they have is a lot of flights everyday but no matter what you always have a terrible experience with AMERICAN AIRLINES. If you are traveling to Europe the breakfast is a muffin and fake orange juice. They are sooooooo cheap in everything they do, all the planes are old inside. IF I KEEP GOING I WILL BE HERE ALL NIGHT WRITING BAD REVIEWS. AMERICAN AIRLINES : PLEASE STEP IT UP

It’s ok when it works but you can’t do a lot of stuff on it besides getting your boarding pass and tracking baggage. It sends you to the “full” site on a browser, which ends up being just the “mobile” site that also doesn’t let you do everything. Yesterday my flight was delayed multiple times and the app had no updates except the first time the flight was delayed. We received a card with info for changing flights but the app, the website, and the phone number in the card were not much help. I did get a new flight that I was assigned but the info and seats were wrong and there was nothing I could do to change it. I had to stand in line for two hours while the app still said the boarding and take off where an hour prior to the current time. So much for new technology. You still need a live person to fix problems.

I travel weekly for work and have to use a third party to book my flights. I love that my flight reservation appears right in the app and all I have to do is “check in” when I am ready. I don’t have to enter confirmation Numbers or anything. Also, my TSA precheck icon appears right on my electronic boarding pass(no action required from me). The flight and gate updates/alerts are extremely helpful too! To have a seamless app. experience - make sure your third party travel agent is entering your American Rewards Member number and your TSA Precheck number when booking your flight. Also, I made sure that the Airlines account has my TSA precheck info as well.

This app is very basic, unimaginative and boring. Can’t check-in with it so no e-boarding pass. Rather than the flight number, would like to see my reservation numbers instead. Too much drilling down to obtain information. For example; I should be given an option to “track or get updates" on this flight am looking at in my itinerary. I’m only given three basic options (not connected to me and my itinerary) to select from on the dash board (flight status, find trip and book flights) how ‘bout a "More" option; where I can inquire about bags info., check out admiral club, etc, etc. The app also needs to offer an option to upgrade to different class seat. I can only select a different seat and pay the new price for current class only. The app developers need to take a page from United, JetBLUe and or Delta airline app(s) layout and easy of use.

Delta Airlines is my airline of choice but flew AA from Minneapolis to Aruba via Charlottesville due to the cheapest fares. I had low expectations for the AA app based on the reviews, but can say it was just fine for all the general functions I needed, including changing assigned seats (very easy) and checking in. What I found excellent and exceeding my expectations was how easy it was to rebook my return flights when my original flights were canceled due to a major snowstorm. Travel alerts texts were sent early, along with several alternate dates/flights to choose from. A few clicks and all five travelers were rebooked with confirmed seats. Excellent!!!!!

Ticket was purchased via points. Your agent scheduled my flight back with a 12 hour layover, ridiculous! I was under the impression that loyalty mattered, you don’t give the worst case scenario flight plan to people using points. I don’t expect AA to respond or even care, I will continue to use the airline because I have to not because I want to. I will however at every corner not recommend you and avoid using you, I knew I should have gone United, at least I get to walk away and know that I have learned something. As I sit here at customer assistance desk in DFW waiting for all call, because the agent was of no service, I see people switching flights for $75, yet that courtesy is not extended to me, as if I am not a customer, makes no sense! Just got offline with you 800 number and they worse than the live person at your “customer assistance” desk
Worst rewards program ever

save your self the disappointment and go with another airline . Their rewards program is the worst out there . The bonus points you get when you sign up won’t get you down the street . I spent 20k on their credit card and after getting the points plus my bonus sign on points I could barely get a round trip ticket to two states away . They also charge $80 for each ticket you use rewards on. I looked at a $97 dollar flight and they wanted me to use 12k points and pay the $80. Unbelievable . I also have jet blue and their fee is only $14 and their points go a lot further.

I have the app set to give me banner updates, so I always know if there is a gate change or a delay. I love being able to tap the gate to see a map of the terminal; I know exactly where to go to catch my connecting flight. American lets you use on-board wireless for free when checking the app. This most recent round trip was great in terms of service, so I think American is really trying. I have had service issues in the past, but I digress. The app also lets you track your bags so you can relax after getting on your connecting flight when the app tells you your bags have been loaded.

I’m a frequent business traveler and find this app very intuitive and easy to use - it is a great centralized area of information (even going so far as to integrate travel time estimates based upon traffic to get to the airport). This is a great app - don’t pay any attention to the haters. I think too many people are writing a review here after a poor flight experience - which is completely unrelated to app design. I wish that the mileage would update faster than within 48 hours-ish of flying, but this is a function of their database update policy more than the iOS app itself.

We flew 1st class from Honolulu to LAX and had an additional economy leg to Indianapolis that when we purchased our tickets was going to depart at 8 am. The LAX to Indianapolis flight has been changed/delayed 3 times. When checking our bags at HNL, they told us that they couldn’t check our bags straight through to Indianapolis, that we would have to retrieve them from baggage claim and then recheck them. We don’t understand why since we immediately rechecked them as soon as we retrieved them from baggage claim. By making us recheck our bags, This caused us to have to go through TSA checkpoint again. In addition, flight 488 has been delayed several times ..at the time of this writing, it is over a 4 hour delay...which is too long. We choose the flight that we did so that we wouldn’t have a long layover after the long flight from Hawaii.

On a recent trip with multiple connections, this app provided good info on all those flights, the gates, and internal maps of those airports, including step by step directions for getting from arrival gate to departure gate (big help to us in LAX and DFW). It updates info such as gate changes fairly quickly when you turn off airplane mode on your device between flights. We used it to download our boarding passes to our phones in advance, and used those at all the gates. Would be nice if this app also included accurate info about meal availability for each flight.

Can you please make the confirmation number for a flight easy to see?!? Even staff at the ticket counter could not find it to try to help me with check-in and got frustrated...all to just so you can verify if my bag is small enough to fit under a seat before I even get a boarding pass because of the new cheaper fare option restrictions of online check-in. One more reason added to the list of why this airline is ranked behind the competitors and why other professional travelers often agree with me in that “ugh, American” sentiment that goes beyond the app. On the upside, good in-flight entertainment experience that doesn’t require a secondary GoGo app as Delta’s does and notifications have been well done.
Pleasant Flight but

The flight was pleasant ; however, the service was not great. After the pilot made announcement that flight attendants prepare for take off. Male flight attendant who assigned to serve in the main cabin walked by and a female passenger who sat in front of us in 18C had her back seat laid back and he ignored us regardless of my husband and I waiving at him to correct the matter. His hand touched the back of her seat and not noticed it was in incorrect position for landing as a professionally trained flight attendant. We landed with her back seat pushed against us and I pumped my head twice trying to retrieve personal belongings under the seat. I am not asking for compensation but flight attendants should pay more attention to avoid unnecessary incidents. Please let me know if you need a copy of the photo during landing.

Have just returned from Vietnam. Six flights including four on japan airlines partner in Tokyo and Hanoi. Staff was all helpful and friendly. Good food and large bathrooms with bidet on JAL. On USA flights from Dfw and Boston all staff including ticketing to baggage and in air attendants were super. Wish Dfw to clt plane had usb ChargePoint but otherwise gft2u trip. One hitch was bad weather in Dfw caused our luggage to miss connections. But Anthony located bags and they are to be delivered soon. We have over 200,000 miles with aa and two aa advantage cards and love American. Fantastic staff and caring people. I use wheelchair and staff goes overboard to help with my carry on and spect request. I’m an aa customer for life. Mike in hickory. Thanks
Frustrated

The anxiety caused by airport travel has only gotten worse over time. I was excited to not have to print out paperwork and constantly be concerned about loosing it. The app is unintuitive for casual fliers. The check-in kiosk would never read our QR codes so I was glad we always printed out the paperwork. Very frustrating and disappointing that app didn’t seem to work. Eventually an airline rep told us with the electronic boarding pass we could bypass the kiosk and go straight to TSA Pre-Check. We wish we had known that on previous flights. It will be timesaver on future trips. I’m very happy not to have paper documents to keep track of! I can’t speak about how it handles flight delays or gate changes. The iMessage portion of the app is unnecessary but adds a little fun back into travel.
App is unstable

I have had a consistently bad experience with this app over several generations of iPhones, IOS updates and app versions. For the past two years, the app consistently tells me that there is no internet connection, and is unable to function, despite having a full connection, be it WiFi or Cellular. It shows this error over and over again even after erasing and downloading the app, logging out and relogging back in, and even as I have updated the phone itself from iPhone 7 through the X. Sometimes the app works for a week, then the error suddenly comes back and it no longer works. This is definitely not a user error, the app is technically flawed. As a technology executive and very frequent traveler, I am astonished how AA has permitted this glaring performance issue to persist for so long.

Easiest of all so far to get boarding passes and put them on Wallet. But, my flight was only a single destination and return. If is true that having a more complex flight involves two searches, That is a negative. Our negative was the my wife’s boarding pass was not accepted at the gate, although it had been at the baggage pickup. Tried to redownload it, but ended up having to get her a printed one. Luckily, The Philadelphia airport made that easy for those with Precheck, but could have been a real problem. Have never had that problem with other airlines. Attendant said “happens sometimes”. Needs to work with Apple Pay and be able to pay for luggage without getting out credit card.

I have been late on over 85% of my flights , the American website propaganda shows not late a all so I am guessing the window used is if flight leaves within 24 hours maybe AA doesn’t consider it late? I have hundreds of flights per year every year and since the USAir purchased the failed bankrupt American- I thought American would get better , it appears it has adopted the failed practices that left AA bankrupt and no one cares, the last flight was another incompetent flight waited 3 hours and 45 minutes at the gate on board the plane because the caterer took all 4 trash cans - REALLY! If my job did this continuously we would be out of business , the issue is deeper than just late flights, please call or email me anytime if you want the 300 excuses I have been giving just this past year

I fly a lot, on all the different airlines. I’ve never had as many problems with an airline app as I do with this one. It won’t track my bags accurately, it doesn’t refresh, it can’t tell me anything useful without redirecting me to the mobile website (which is NOT mobile friendly). It won’t let me see my boarding passes or change my seat assignment or even see any of the flight details, like how long the flight is or if a meal is included. It’s not user friendly, it constantly “loses” my information and makes me log in again and add my trip again. And worst of all it locks me out of my AAdvantage account repeatedly, saying I’ve input the “wrong password” more than 6 times, and then I have to call customer service and they never have a long-term solution for me. I hate using this app.

Just was disappointed on the way my trip went. Tried to book on line and was given lots of different prices. Finally reach a human who book the flight. But I did not proofread the status 15 hours to Seattle (my fault). Name some how was put in two different accounts. Finally thought I got that right. When I registered for this app. But No the spelling of my name appears on the ticket wrong but every thing else is right. As for the app it kept me calm on the 8 hour layover. Because no help but the app. Thanks. I hope I can enjoy the rest of the trip LaShunda Walker

This app is useful, but only if you have perfect network conditions. It is very, very bad at recovering from loss of network (or even going into airplane mode, which you might recognize as use case for literally everyone who flies on an airplane). The app recently refused to update gate information after regaining network connectivity from my last flight. While other apps (and even the mobile boarding pass) had no problems getting updates, even a manual refresh in this app refused to update the info, which I relied on as a source of truth for where my next flight would be. Moral of the story: Don’t rely on this app for up to date flight info, which I would assume is a basic requirement for an app like this.

-inaccurate if there’s any flight changes -doesn’t send you text notifications till way too late -erases my flight information I enter when I get off the tab, making it ridiculously hard to keep constant track I flew from California to Michigan and back again with a total of 3 layovers with this airline and this app. It was terrible. Most of my flights were delayed. And every time the app and the screen at the gate didn’t give the accurate information. It would say it was departing on time at 805pm when the time was 810pm. My flight was canceled and I’m waiting in a massive line to rebook. You would think they would be more tech and information savvy at this point in time. Very disappointed.

What a bad experience with this company, I don’t have words to describe what I felt the past August 7 th, 2018, a day I would never forget. On my way to Cuba at the “plane door” a representative told me that my carry on bag which one passed the requirements to travel with me, had to go in the hold of the plane not with me because there was not more space on the cabin. Me and a few people were too disappointed with that news many started complaining but there was not option. Once I get home I realized that someone stole things from my suitcase ( valuable things ) I returned to the airport and they only filled out a claim, nothing else. At this time I haven’t received a solution even though I have evidences. NO BODY CARES, and because of that I WOULD NEVER EVER GOINT TO TRAVEL WITH AMERICAN AIRLINES AGAIN ON MY LIFE👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻
Compatibility fixes needed

This has been a reasonably reliable app until recent updates killed its compatibility with older versions of iOS - I do not always update my iOS immediately when the latest version is released. Come on American developers... If you want us using your App then please verify compatibility when releasing updates. Other nice to haves would be automatically updating your flight reservation data when opening the app (you have to manually thumb down on screen to update). More functionality from the full website such as viewing available seats and making changes would also be helpful. Or maybe I just should use the full website instead of the newly released weak app...

Currently still sitting on a plane in Charlotte, NC. Should have left at 9:38am. Sat on the plane at the gate for 30 minutes. Pilot said we were waiting for clearance. Finally left the gate and went to where the fed ex planes were parked. Sat there for another hour. Pilot then tells us there is a water pressure issue with the plane and we must return to the gate. We are now 2 hours on the plane. We get back to the gate, the pilot tells us the water problem is now fixed but the crew has to be replaced!!! We get off the plane for 20 minutes, then get back on the same plane... with you guessed it... the same crew!!!!!! The pilot now tells us he will delay our flight another few minutes so they can bring meals on for us to BUY! Are you kidding me! 3 hours of BS and they want us to purchase meals.
