Ios version won’t let me email my script and crashes often
by Ntjhttf on 2020/12/01 03:11
I have to use this for school and it’s decent, but, the app is constantly crashing. This is obviously a problem as it makes it harder for me to complete my assignments. I’m also having a problem where the “email as PDF” and “email as text” buttons just aren’t working. This is vital for me because I need to convert my script to a PDF in order for my teacher to accept it.
Seems decent but keeps kicking me out.
by onefullempty on 2020/11/30 02:57
Started writing a scene and after half a page or so the app kept kicking me out every time I went to open the keyboard after reopening the app. Basically blocking access to anything and won’t allow me to keep writing. Tried deleting and reinstalling, same issue occurs after signing in. Tried logging into the website via chrome and it won’t allow me to input the password, keeps loading a new tab and closing it immediately. Seemed decent and I was happy to get started until this random roadblock, but this is unusable and seems like a non isolated issue due to other reviews. Definitely reevaluating my options and will not be coming back.
Unusable
by eldamien1981 on 2020/11/29 18:50
Not only has the app not been updated in years, it constantly crashes on iOS 14. I guess they want you to migrate to the web interface. Kindof a shame for those of us who don’t always have an internet connection. I’ll be switching to Scrivener.
Glitches
by SingleFather23 on 2020/11/25 02:13
The “Script Writer” is nice but with the “Glitching” in word spelling when you use talk it Erases the word after you say it.... It’s handy for me as a single Father who works with his hands being able to talk out a “Script, Scene play, or Comic” hands free is pretty cool, gives me time to play with my son as I speak aloud stories of who we are our! - Glitch in hands free.(Erases Word after said) - Having to Re-put In login information.(Even after Saved when going back in it will ask to login) - Can’t add photos or video.

It keeps crashing!
by Kriss_Miss21 on 2020/11/15 19:35
I used this app so much in college in my screenwriting class! I absolutely loved it! Please fix it so that it’ll stop crashing! My life’s work is stored here!!🙏🙏 Update: So it seems like the version for the iPhone is the one that’s giving people trouble. I used this app on my iPad in college. Can you guys fix the phone version please? It’s the device I use the most these days.
Bad, can’t even manage.
by Tedimoya on 2020/11/15 10:22
Well I’ve been using Celtx script for a couple of years now and although it works really flawlessly on my previous android devices, I just switched to the iPhone and the app is very awful on the iPhone . Everything about it is complicated and you can’t even manage it or you’ll go nuts. The click aren’t responsive and the font and titling is bad, I tried it on my friends iPad and it works well but also bad on his iPhone. I don’t know why they made the application available for the iPhone if it’s just going to be this bad. Please work on this application in the next update, until then I’m boycotting it.
Crashes all the time

Crashes all the time on my ipad and iphone. MADDENING. And I PAY for this.

I wrote almost a whole story and for some reason it just deleted, I tried restoring and everything, it’s just gone.
So frustrating
by Asia Lopez on 2020/11/08 02:08
I had been working on revisions for a good hour when I noticed that a addition I made the previous writing window didn’t save. I looked into it in another device to see if the changes were there. They weren’t . The worst of it was though that when I went to continue on the device I was working on originally, the page refreshed and lost all the revisions I had made in the last hour plus more. An entire new scene was deleted! So frustrating!
Nope

by TattooedLasagna on 2020/10/26 01:08
This app closes on me. Constantly. Brand new iPhone 11 and the newest version of this. Waste of time.
Crashes quite a bit
by Briwil78 on 2020/10/25 20:49
Not very reassuring that the app hasn’t been updated in 3 years! And you want people to pay you monthly now on top of it. Maybe, but at least get the app working properly in iOS 14, these constant crashes are horrendous.
4/5
by OrangeLegoBrick on 2020/10/25 17:45
This has really taken my script writing to the next level. I don’t like how it’s free to use on mobile but on lap top you have to pay once your free trial is over. I believe they should both be free. But overall this is a really great app.
Cold be way better
by nick A.S on 2020/10/24 13:43
Automatically crashes after making minor changes to any project, otherwise I like the app.. mostly
I would give it 5 stars but...
by Pinkiamena on 2020/10/23 17:32
This app is a great way to write screenplay scripts, but something is wrong. Every time I try to type something on my script, the app just closes out/crashes. This only happened when I connected my phone to my account after my iPad. Before that, it was working just fine. And now, I can’t use it at all.
Good but could be better
by Helena0808 on 2020/10/19 21:05
This is my first foray into screenplay writing but the issues I have with this app are technical. I have nothing else to compare it to. I love how easily it inputs names of characters and it’s easy to figure it out as you go. Two things really bother me. 1) is that is will jump back up to the first page after idling for a little while. 2) that it additionally re-saves the screenplay with codes, such as Doc-fe0d1b34. I now have 5 additional saved version aside from my originally titled screenplay. I will purposefully go to the original and start working but then...POOF! Another one will appear when I go back to work on it again. What is that??? The worst part is that the original titled work will not reflect the updates. I have to go to the errantly coded one to copy and paste then hope that it will stick. I constantly worry that all the work that I have put in will mysteriously disappear. Two big concerns. Otherwise, this is a pretty good program. I hope the odd glitches can be corrected. Please. I’m scared. Oh! I’d also love to be able to go ahead and add/change the title in the app version vs. having to go to the website to do it. Thank you.
Please don't buy it.
by YotoMotoRoto on 2020/10/19 00:54
Just don't. I had a great beginning of a script that got deleted/written over by the same but different one on another device. It's just not worth the crashes.
Features
by Senór on 2020/10/14 22:46
I love the App! I just would like to see a few added features on this mobile version. When I am working on something here, I would like to see a logout feature so I can log in and out. It usually logs me out randomly; I don’t like that. And when I want to add dual speech there is no way to do that in the mobile app. And I can’t highlight more than a word at a time. A few little nuisances such as these, negatively affect my rating.
Keeps kicking me out!
by elektr98 on 2020/10/14 22:39
It’s the best! For real, it’s easy to use and I love every aspect of the app. But it keeps kicking me out whenever I try to correct something, and when I try again kicks me out again and closes. On average, kicks me out 3-4 times before it becomes functional again. It’s a really good app, but that’s driving me nuts
It keeps crashing.!
by Dmvsno1slim11 on 2020/10/11 23:49
It was working pretty good initially, and now it closes after a minute... it has been doing this for over two weeks now...
It’s okay
by jotaroboy on 2020/10/09 16:24
I would rate it better if it would stop crashing. I have to open it up on my PC to use this because on mobile it just crashes
Used to be good
by ZASHLEY FANX on 2020/10/08 21:53
Used to be good and super easy to jot down ideas that come to your head on the go. Now the Celtx Cloud doesn’t sync so you end up losing all your work and it crashes randomly.
HOW DID YOU MAKE THIS?
by Scooter-n-Skeeter on 2020/10/07 01:15
Ok, I know this is a short response but WHOA this is the best app ever!!! 😔 sadly, for me, I can’t sync- but otherwise SO GOOD! IF YOU EVER MAKE ANOTHER VERSION, YAY!!! I ❤️ Celtx!

by Spartan753Cale on 2020/10/02 03:09
The app has been my go-to for the longest time. However recently it’s started to fail and crash multiple times. I enjoyed using it on my phone so I could just write whenever I had the free time but now, it crashes when I try to make changes, I force close the app and reopen to try and get it to work but it crashes again. The desktop site works fine but I can’t exactly carry my desktop around while I’m working, or out running errands.

Good luck finishing a page without the app crashing.
by Mumma Mia on 2020/09/13 20:04
The app consistently crashes even after i close all other apps so my phone can focus on this one bogus one. Once i got to page 4 i couldn’t even scroll away from the portion im currently writing without the app crashing. I havent been able to continue writing with this garbage app since.

Massive bugs
by theguyver44 on 2020/09/06 13:14
This app would other wise be great if not for the massive amount of bugs it has. It’s terribly frustrating.
Great App
by Westicles21 on 2020/09/01 19:48
The app is great, it has every basic tool you’d need to flesh out an outline at your finger tips. However, the app crashes constantly. Having hundreds or just dozens of pages, attempting to load the app and start where you’d left off results in the app crashing almost constantly.
Would be 5 but MAJOR BUGS
by Shanice Paul on 2020/08/28 21:50
I literally love this app because I am an aspiring film writer and director and because of the fact that I’m 18 and new to the process this app was basically the best thing that has happened in the process so far but the only thing is it can be really annoying like I thank the people behind this app because without you guys I would be lost and it helps very much but literally it crashes 24/7 and some times doesn’t save where I was when it crashes then most of the time when it crashes it signs me out and I have to keep changing my password in order to get in (Even though I put in the right password) and these can really stop me a lot and get me kind of unmotivated then that is another set back. Like for as long as I’ve had this app you would think they would fix these things by now!
Doesn’t really work on iPad

Give and take
by TheWarriorAshe on 2020/08/23 03:03
Celtix is my go-to, love it especially for someone who’s new to script formatting. But, it tends to crash when you leave a script and come back to it, or if you scroll too quickly to the bottom, and once it starts crashing it won’t stop until I restart the app (and even then it’s iffy) which can be a huge inconvenience. But I’m always willing to tolerate it because it saves my work without fail every time.
Deletes and erases!
by Melancholicfrolic on 2020/08/21 19:10
I’ve hit my last straw with this app. It has deleted 3 of my scripts entirely and has erased hours of work on scripts numerous times. I will be searching for another app to use because I am done with this. I don’t know about the online version, but the app is simply not worth the risk of knowing it could be deleted or erased at any moment.
More of a question than a review
by zell92mill on 2020/08/16 10:11
Does this version sync with the MacOS version for 19.99?
Good but force closes
by RicksenVan on 2020/08/16 04:41
I often have to close out of the app while on mobile and when I return I have to scroll through for my place. When I do and I start to write, the app will sometimes force close. This happens at least twice before I can stay on the app.
Constantly Crashing

One problem
by mega9g on 2020/08/06 18:05
I love this app, I use it almost every day to help me with my stop motion animations, but I cannot look over that sometimes the app crashes out of nowhere and I have to reload the app completely. Which means I lost anything I’ve written in the last 60-120 seconds. It’s a little thing, but annoying and needs to be fixed.
Please fix the mobile!!
by Uchiha iPhone on 2020/07/31 13:46
The desktop version is great. But for people that paid for specific things we would like the ability to use the app, on the go, in airports, on the bus, etc. the last update was a two years ago.

App closes itself out
by 124tz on 2020/07/22 17:57
I love the app but it always closes itself out at random times , I deleted it to redownload and the app didn’t save my updated scripts and then when I try to close the app myself I still get the problem. There are a lot of issues and glitches that needs to be fix that I have been dealing with for years now. Thanks
Very good except for one thing
by Corgizilla on 2020/07/21 16:07
This thing has been very useful for me but the only thing is sometimes it just kicks me out of the app for no reason so that’s the only thing that’s keeping it back form a 5 star
Keeps crashing
by _andimtaryn❤️ on 2020/07/20 03:41
It’s a good app overall but it keeps Crashing and I literally can’t write anything because of it
Overall good so far mostly
by Glitch S.A. on 2020/07/12 07:50
I’m not really used to writing scripts (got told to use this for a potential project), so it’s help in that sense, plus it’s not super confusing (unless I’m horribly misusing it) but the app keeps closing randomly? I’ll be writing & then suddenly: it’s closed. But thankfully (at least as of writing this) it saves what I have, so when it DOES randomly close, the last thing I wrote is still there.
Won’t stop crashing

Why

I wrote a script for TWO hours and it glitched out! Then I WROTE IT AGAIN I THINK THATS CRAZY! It glitched out AGAIN huh after that it kept glitching out.
good and bad
by thombmt on 2020/06/14 18:18
Good: iPad app is really great and responsive. I’ve not found another app that is as immediate from keystroke to onscreen. No latency. It doesn’t give you a comprehensive set of tools (and I pay the monthly fee) comparable to some of the other apps. But for the basic controls and navigation, it performs really well. Bad: the app version and the online versions are so frustratingly different. The online navigation has screwed up my scene order many times because I try to use it to scroll through and look for a specific scene, but instead of a navigation tool it performs as an editing function: dragging scenes and plopping them to wherever I end my finger swipe. The app function is so much better. Also, the spacing, page count does not match from iOS app to online, and again there are differences from the preview print online to the actual hard copy print. You scrub through cleaning up orphan words all for naught to find other random ones appear by the time you’ve printed a hard copy. Please fix this. An app page count of 120 pages becomes 108 online. I love that the online version will help me trim pages, but can you make the app show me that accurate page count?
It keeps crashing

by Drew Canty on 2020/05/24 10:27
The app seems to have every feature I wanted as a screenplay writer that is new to writing. I’m having trouble with getting the app to actually function though. I was able to log into my account but, I’m not able to edit the projects I have. The app crashes every time I try to type.
Doesn’t work
by TJH972006 on 2020/05/20 18:11
Every time I try to type it just exits me out of the app.
Awesome tool. Needs improvement.
by gnartasty on 2020/05/18 15:11
I have used Celtx in the past. Just got a new iPad and was excited to see the app version. I really like it but the few flaws it has is driving me away pretty quickly. The tendency it has to snap to the top page if you wait to long between writing is infuriating haha. I know it’s just a glitch but it does it all the time and it’s hard to keep a focused flow with jumping to page 1 all the time. Secondly, having more controls like the web based platforms would be really helpful. Such ass adding media to the script. I haven’t found a way to add media for reference on the app, only on web based. And when done on the web based platform, it doesn’t translate to the app. Also, the app crashes randomly. Luckily progress has been saved, but still hard to deal with.
Poor Support
by Deathrattle 2 on 2020/05/11 17:08
When writing in this app for a prolonged amount of time, it will eventually stop allowing you to change anything, and will crash. I have tried many times to change 1 word, but every time I select the word, it fails and crashes. Then again, this app hasn’t seen support in 2 years.
Would rate 5 but one issue I have (PLEASE REPOND)
by kilo⭕️🇬🇷and🇨🇭 on 2020/05/09 19:26
I love this app how it keeps track of characters in your stories how it has a special keyboard so you can organize things but for some reason I have a script that I am working on for a project called Juno about the Canadians efforts in the Normandy landings I noticed i wrote a slight historical inaccuracy with a weapon I went to edit it and then all of a sudden the app kicked me out I panicked shortly fearing my work was lost and was happy and relieved when I opened the app and I saw my screenplay there I thought it was just a little freak accident and it would not happen again I went to edit the inaccuracy then well I was kicked out the app again I tried about three or four more times then I went to the AppStore to write a review which you are reading now please tell me how to fix this I put a lot of heart and care into my screenplay and scripts paying attention to cinematography, subtext, character relationships, plot and those little details that make a film just that much better please respond to me my scripts and screenplay are like my baby so please tell me that you will release a patch or a way to fix it
It can be better.
by lamchungfan on 2020/05/06 18:21
It is handy, but the mobile version always tends to jump back to the top of the page instead of staying where you last stopped, so every so often you have to scroll through the entire thing just to find your previous spot. The cloud-save mechanism can be a lil iffy too because this happened to me once where I was working on a script on the Celtx website on my desktop, saved it there. Then later I tried to edit that draft on my iPhone; what I didn’t know at the time was the version of the draft on my app hasn’t been updated yet, so it was still an older version with none of the new pages. I don’t know why it didn’t update automatically since I have data, but once I opened it, Celtx assumed this old one was the latest version and overwrote everything else on the cloud. Just talking about it sounds confusing. But I almost lost a good chunk of work. Luckily Celtx does offer decent backup on the website. Nevertheless, it’s a scary moment and makes it hard for me to trust the cloud. It’s also difficult to be precise with placement on the mobile version. I have fat fingers, so I need to add a word or two in between existing words, it can take a while because it keeps highlighting things or words that I don’t want it to.
Very frustrating
by recklessbeautie on 2020/04/27 02:13
Celtx is a great screenwriting app but the thing I hate about it is the unreliability. Every time I make certain revisions, I’ll go back the next day and none of my revisions will be there. Also, if I make revisions on a computer and continue the revisions on my mobile device, it will only save revisions from one or the other. Very annoying!! If you are writing a screenplay on one device with no revisions, celtx is great! But if you are going to need something reliable to save your work and keep your revisions, use final draft. Celtx is a great tool to use if you are new to screenwriting and just trying to test your skills. If you are doing screenwriting professionally or working on something serious, use final draft.
Great besides crashing

Where did my over 50 page script go?
by Jeff22FIlm on 2020/04/23 14:24
I will be the first to say I love this app. There’s small glitches every now and then. I don’t mind, it gives me a break. I’m a screenwriter and have been working on a project for the last three weeks. Since it’s what I do everyday, I have a lot of work done. Some days I can get about 15 pages down on the paper. I’ve been working this project and have been happy with the syncing to iCloud feature so I don’t lose work... WELL let me tell you. Today, I went on my phone to quickly read a portion of the script for a friend, I had 56 pages written. I opened it to only see up to page 12 completed.. let me just tell you how beyond upset I am at this. Weeks of work GONE. I’ve been syncing every 10 or so minutes while writing because I’ve lost so many projects to technical issues. I’m not done with the app. I should be. I really should be. But I am writing this as a warning. BE CAREFUL. SAVE. SAVE. SAVE.
Lost my progress
by bobobobbobobo on 2020/04/23 00:55
I spent a lot of time on working but then Celtx lost my progress even though it said it saved my progress. Do not recommend. Also there are many better free writing programs, writers duet being a great example, that is better and more efficient than Celtx. All in all, this program is infuriating and I recommend using something else

Almost perfect app
by Nagy vlogs on 2020/03/18 10:00
Celtx is a perfect app for aspiring screenwriters, you have everything at your disposal, there is the format and an unlimited amount of scripts that you can write which is PERFECT. However, there are some bugs that need to be fixed: the comment that you can leave on a certain part of the script glitches on an iPhone 11, when you go on it you can’t do anything after it(done and i think color cant be pressed), the only thing you can do is close application and open it again which takes too long and can rarely remove some of the parts you wrote in the script. Other than that this app is just PERFECT, thank you to the developers for making this app and i hope you fix the minor bugs in the foreseeable future. Edit: I would also love the ability to have two people talk at the time.

Celtx is dope. Seriously, I have used this app/site for 6 years now, and have written multiple screenplays using it. When I set out in screenwriting I had no idea how to write in the screenplay format. This app’s ease of use and automated text formatting not only made me more efficient at screenwriting, but it has helped be become a better writer. I highly recommend it! I typically use the desktop site, but this app allows me to jump from desktop to phone with no lapse in writing. Which, when I’m in my groove, makes it way easier to keep the flow going.

Why does the desktop version allow you to add Acts but not the mobile version?

I use Celtx on my computer as well as my phone, and I am confused as to why adding Acts is unavailable in the mobile version, but available in the desktop version.

I work productively on a whim. One day, I decided to write a short film script, so here I am. I downloaded this program because I didn’t want to use typical Microsoft Word, plus I wanted a separate program for this writing and ability to access my writing on both my phone and my computer. Starting on the computer, the program Celtx provides educational “starter courses” , which really helped me start the writing and understand just what I needed to do. Downloading the mobile app was necessary for on-the-go writing, and I’m glad I did, honestly. Using this program I’m able to keep track of my writing and write whenever I want :). My only complaint is the occasional difficulty to open my writing without internet access, but this happens with all WiFi-enabled programs. Definitely would recommend to anyone thinking about writing a script or otherwise.

Way to complicated
by Shavthomas on 2020/01/26 13:10
I mean this in the most respectful way there is no reason an app for script writing should be this difficult to use. I try to Cancel something I can’t because it’s hidden behind the time on my iPhone X, literally can’t click cancel cause it being the time on the left side of my phone. I want to just add a new line of text I have to click 2-3 buttons. I want to turn off sync? I have a better chance getting a flight to japan for $50. I want to use you app, I really do but if I have to over think or over click to do any work then it becomes completely pointless.

Come on folks, we pay a lot for your app, least you could do is make it functional on common devices. Even if you have to cut features, make them work...
Good overall
by toneswing on 2020/01/20 16:17
My favorite part of this app is it’s multiple export options. The presentation is very professional and clean. My issue with the mobile app is the typing mechanics. It’s a chore to select individual letters. I waste too much time adding periods and retyping sentences just because the typing system is so clunky. I think this app would be perfect if the typing system was more consistent and intuitive

iPad version has some issues
by rusalkaparty on 2020/01/17 22:43
Overall a great program, though there's some issues with the iPad version, like when you tap the screen to edit in a previous paragraph it will often highlight an entire word and it's a pain to get it to just insert the cursor without doing that. Just little things like that, but otherwise good.

Love it
by Qshelby on 2020/01/03 03:21
Great on mobile and desktop. For beginners and mid-level folks, this is the best software. For the professionals who truly understand the film industry and what their standards are, Final Draft is the best way to go. Give Celtx a try because it’s free, easy, and exactly what you need when you need it. I’ve used both and I honestly prefer Celtx. I’m on my phone more than I’m on the computer and I love how mobile friendly Celtx is.
REMEMBER TO BACKUP

Having an issue
by Deatheart251 on 2019/12/21 23:21
Been liking this app for a while so far, but now there’s this issue where sometimes when I hit enter, the app crashes, and the last minute or two of writing is gone when the app is rebooted. This has happened ten times in the last hour. It’s starting to get annoying. Maybe someone else has experienced this, and so maybe it is a problem that is being looked into, or at least will be looked into. I’ve been hopping these screenwriting apps a lot the past few days because I need a new one for certain features, but then everything that I’ve been trying seems okay at first but then all the apps start crashing all the time. I thought this app could be the one. I hope I don’t have to find a new screenwriting app after all.
Outdated
by Kayona88 on 2019/12/19 14:54
I loved the desktop version for many years but as OS continued to update, this software did not. Maybe this version was good years ago when it came out but it’s awful now. I imported a script written on the old version and it made it over 15 pages longer! Any screenwriter knows that this is unacceptable when every page counts. I bought this and cannot use it.
Quick and Convenient
by nolandragon on 2019/12/06 22:53
Quick easy and convenient. The reason why it’s not 5 stars is because the when I go back to what I have already typed, it highlights The Who word or sometimes even the line. This has led me to accidentally deleting some of my script. Besides that one complaint it is extremely easy to use. Celx is an amazing 4 star screen writing app!
Convenient
by I Am Tanishia on 2019/12/05 02:28
Convenience is the reason for my five star. I realized its significance when I was stuck in the Omaha airport for 8 hours. I like that it syncs with the cloud so if I’m on my laptop in Las Vegas, I have the updates I made from my iPad when I was stuck in Omaha.

Would rate 5 but one issue I have (PLEASE REPOND)

I love this app how it keeps track of characters in your stories how it has a special keyboard so you can organize things but for some reason I have a script that I am working on for a project called Juno about the Canadians efforts in the Normandy landings I noticed i wrote a slight historical inaccuracy with a weapon I went to edit it and then all of a sudden the app kicked me out I panicked shortly fearing my work was lost and was happy and relieved when I opened the app and I saw my screenplay there I thought it was just a little freak accident and it would not happen again I went to edit the inaccuracy then well I was kicked out the app again I tried about three or four more times then I went to the AppStore to write a review which you are reading now please tell me how to fix this I put a lot of heart and care into my screenplay and scripts paying attention to cinematography, subtext, character relationships, plot and those little details that make a film just that much better please respond to me my scripts and screenplay are like my baby so please tell me that you will release a patch or a way to fix it
Yes to the desktop, no to the mobile
by Zombie hunter 28 on 2018/10/11 05:27
I appreciate everything this program has done for me. The four star is for the entire program as a whole, however the same cannot be said for the mobile programs. For one there isn’t an app that includes all of them in one thing, and for some reason they had a feature that includes novels which is only shown in the “desktop” version but seldom mentioned in the mobile program. Some controls for it can be finicky and can get you into some trouble if you’re not careful enough. Worst of all if you’re not careful with this, you could lose a significant amount of progress in a short amount of time. I feel like that these apps are poorly managed as they are not properly adapted to the latest version seen in the “desktop” variation. Don’t get me wrong, I really love this program, this has gotten me through high school and into a lot of things including a self publishing business using Celtx as a whole. If you love Celtx as a whole too, you’re better off saving the painful hassles by just getting a laptop fitted for Celtx.
good and bad
by thombmt on 2020/06/14 18:18
Good: iPad app is really great and responsive.
Best Screenwriting Software, Ok Mobile App
by Jetzoid on 2019/10/22 03:39
There is no better screenwriting software that I’ve tried and I’ve tried a lot. It’s great being able to edit from any device because it’s all stored on the cloud. The formatting is intuitive and professional-grade. Very trustworthy. The mobile app, on the other hand, has some issues. Sometimes the cursor returns to page 1 without reason, forcing you to find where you’d just been working a moment ago. Sometimes notes pop up unprompted and the button to dismiss is only available if you turn your phone to landscape. The basic qualities are fine, but many of these types of bugs need fixing for a 5-star rating. One thing that should be easy to fix: edit title page on mobile. Currently I can’t figure a way to do it. Would be nice and seems like it ought to be an easy fix.

I can’t say enough praise for this app. I can finally write entire screenplays and shorts without lugging around another electronic device. I write on my mobile phone. So easy to edit as well. Much of the UI is intuitive and streamlined. Five stars is not enough! All aspiring writers can pick up this app and start writing in their free time. On the train, bus, or ride share cab... On your couch at home waiting for your date to pick you up... At the DMV, doctor’s office, or dentist’s office. Anytime you have more than 5 minutes to spare you can write a page of that screenplay you’ve been putting off. The possibilities are endless. You might be surprised where writing can take a person. Try it out for yourself. When you make it to the big time, don’t forget which app got you moving and shaking again. Cheers. Peace, health, and happiness for all. ANM.
A Great All Round Production Solution
by Bob1963Alpha on 2019/07/02 23:49
I’ve not had the experience of loosing work like some have, but that may inly be a matter of time. But in my experience Celtx has been an intuitive tool and I’ve been able to work on projects on desktop and mobile with ease. Sometime I get confused while trying to move my cursor to edit in a different section. The way you navigate is a little different than your typical iOS text based apps. But once I got the hang of the minor differences I was up and running. I also use the full suite of tools including breakdown, budgeting and scheduling. I have found other programs that do this as well or better, but they don’t include all the options Celtic has and the cost is generally more for those. So for the price it has been great and full featured for my small productions.
Not bad
by Celtx Review on 2018/12/16 01:38
This application is free, so I’m not going to complain that much. But I do think it could use some work. Most of the problems stem from the keyboard being at times unresponsive, but I think this is mostly because of the phone. It’s no more difficult than typing an iMessage — which can be really difficult sometimes. I do not think this is the most practical way to write a screenplay, but it’s definitely ideal for making small revisions to existing screenplays that I’ve written on my computer and exported to the Celtx cloud. I recommend this app to anyone who writes for the screen and can text really quickly.
Good for Beginners and pros alike!
by Demi-G on 2019/11/11 20:47
Want to write a script? Get this app! Really! If you don’t like tutorials or having to go through the basics with a class, this app will give you a sample to look off of as an example! And you can begin writing right away. It’s all laid out simply. It numbers the pages automatically, automatically uses proper placement Characters, dialogue, and action. And plenty more! It’s useful, and easy. Only problem is getting it all to print. Unless you can connect a printer to the phone, it may. E a bit difficult to find a way. Emailing it will cause the script to lose its proper format and wording. So again, if you can’t find a way around that, that is the only problem. But if you do, let us know in the review maybe! Other than that, it’s great.
Infuriating
by Trevanon on 2019/10/22 07:21
This app serves me well the last two years, when I was using infrequently to write short scripts for broadcast and radio. But now it’s done nothing but give me panic attacks 20 pages into my story. Random crashes. Unable to open local or cloud saves without the app instantly crashing, and somehow shrinking my script by two pages have forced me to use their browser-based tool, but there’s no way to redownload a local copy unless I want it as a text document. When it works it’s fine, but when it randomly blinks itself off you screen and you can’t remember the last time you saved, it’s panic-inducing. I really don’t want to spend $200 on final draft, especially if it’s not much more stable, but at least that app is supported. When was the last time this app was updated? Same for desktop. Why is it so hard to make a decent screenwriting app?
So much potential
by Jessie Tomahawk on 2018/04/16 20:28
I wanted to like this app a lot more when I first came across it but it’s been really hard to. For one, the most particular annoying part is that I keep getting signed out and when I put my info in, I’m told it’s the wrong password or email. I changed my password too even though I really only use one password for some apps. After the change, I decided to come back to the app and again I got the info wrong message again. Another aspect that bothered me about the app is the frustrating interface while using the app. It’s hard to navigate, clunky and not particularly interesting to look at. Even if my goal isn’t to make professional screenplays, I would still like more ease of use when writing in this app. I like the concept, I like a lot of the tools available to me but it’s still a huge disappointment.
I love it!
by Ushxuhedin on 2017/06/16 17:47
I love this app- it's easy to use, has reasonably good performance, and helps me write scripts anywhere. I think that an interesting feature to include would be another way to organize your scenes. While the drop down menu is incredibly helpful, and I especially love the ability to reorder scene easily, I often find it difficult to quickly find the scene I need. I have a lot of plot lines/ideas going at once, and it'd be nice to be able to see that on the go. I was thinking that perhaps color coding would help? Just for the drop down list of scenes, so that you could assign a color to certain scenes. That way it'd be easier to navigate your story quickly.
Thank you.
A nice app for disconnected work
by DavidAL on 2018/10/05 17:33
Celtx now supports fountain, so you really don’t need to use this app, but it is nice for scripts you have already started and either want to continue working on, or be able to have around as a reference (like the one you forgot to download). I like it for when I am working on the airplane or in the car, when a connection may not be available. I use Celtx exclusively for my script writing, so being able to have the script go back into the management application is huge for me. I really like the ability to pull out my phone, type a few lines while waiting for whatever, put it away and know that it will sync.

Ooh! So close for a 5-star rating…
by theepicjoshua on 2018/01/04 01:43
First of all, there is no way to import your script via Google Drive, Dropbox, or any cloud-based service to Celtx. I didn’t know if that was a pro thing or not, so I copied and pasted my script from Google Docs into Cetlx. After around 20 minutes of adjusting around, when I went back on again, my script was completely gone from Cetlx. Not really, but it was blank, nothing was there. 20 minutes of adjusting, gone. If you can fix this, this would be the perfect app for all my scripts. Thanks again if you do fix it. - Josh
Good luck saving your work
by Krunghole on 2018/04/18 22:35
The formatting and function of the app is great, but I’ve been burned multiple times now while working on my screenplay through this app. It’s absolutely ridiculous. Four times I’ve lost pages and pages worth of work do to some fault with the apps saving process. One time, I lost thirty pages worth of work. Unbelievable! I lost a whole act. Make sure you email yourself a copy of what you’ve written before saving. I can’t believe this app has been out for years and still has the same problems. If you want to use Celtx for free then it’s fine, but at your own risk. To pay even a penny a month for a service that loses your hard written work is absolutely ludicrous. Just spend the money and purchase final draft or something that is actually dependable.
Great App for Scripts
by alberthenrydigal on 2019/09/27 01:53
This app is of excellent craft. It functions just as well as the desktop version. As far as I know, having the app is free but there’s a trial version for the desktop and then you have to pay a monthly. The app still functions the same, in terms of the software but more simplified. I’m sure simply because it’s for iOS as opposed to being on a computer. The full version offers more support and functions but as an app for a phone or iPad (maybe the iPad version is more like the desktop one?) it works excellently.
Needs some work.
by D1Miguel on 2019/01/10 18:38
The mobile version for iPhone is pretty great at syncing with the user’s Celtx Cloud, in general. But there are some kinks that need to be worked out. My main complaint is the, “Email as PDF” option. The option comes up on the mobile version but does nothing. It gives you the option but when you try to use it— nothing happens. Would be lovely if I could save as PDF and email scripts from my phone. Hope it gets worked out. Thank you!
Great except for sign in
by Cord Nash on 2018/04/18 02:04
I honestly like this so much better than the final draft app I actually paid for, but if they don’t stop making you sign in every single time you open the app I’m seriously stop using it. What is seriously the point of making us sign in with email and password just to look at our own scripts?? For real. And for some reason it won’t remember my password so I have to look it up every single time. I’m just gonna go back to final draft if they don’t make it easier to get into the app itself- which really would be a shame because it’s way better than FDW.
Perfect for Spontaneous Writing
by rachalexandra on 2019/04/09 04:09
Any time you get an idea to add to your script or you get inspired and want to start writing when you’re away from a computer you can just start writing! People complain about mobile because there’s a few formatting things that you can’t do or that are harder to do on the mobile version but it has the basics so you can draft out your ideas as they come to you and save formatting for when you go back to edit. I love this app.

First of all, I can’t even begin to write because it won’t let me exit the scene heading. It’s ridiculous. It’s too difficult trying to name the file as well. It took 10 minutes for me to figure out how I name the screenplay and I never figured out how to start writing the action part because it wouldn’t allow me to leave the scene heading!! I’ve tried this also on desktop and it’s also still confusing. Very confusing program..
Spectacular app!!!
by JjjClayFroTon17345 on 2019/06/11 16:55
I was looking for something to script out a podcast because I was having formatting issues with every word processor and note pad I tried. This app automatically formats everything in exact script layout and all I have to do is input whatever content I wish to script. I have full control over what comes out in the final product and can add notes for myself or for everyone reading the script. Thank you for such a great app. Well done!!
Features
by Senór on 2020/10/14 22:46
I love the App!
Destroyer of dreams
by FrostyWalrus on 2017/11/14 02:01
This is probably the worst writing program out there. It has the average amount of little bugs you’re gonna find with any program, but the unforgivable sin of a writing program is deleting pages, and DAYS, of my work, which this app has happily done. For all your faults that’s probably the golden rule of any writing software. Otherwise why do you exist? It’s my fault really. After deleting a few recent edits and rewrites it finally deleted about five pages of work that I had done through at least three separate saves over two weeks. It’s actually impressive really. But I’ve had it with this worthless, garbage program. I hope final cut drives it into the grave.
Useful app for writing on the go
by EbruDidem on 2018/07/12 12:48
It's pretty nice for when I don't have access to my computer or wanna write when I'm on the go. Pretty reliable. There were some issues with the autosave which turned some of what I had written into gibberish, took a little while before it got fixed, but whatever the issue was is now all fixed and good to go. Really like this app. Go-to for a good number of years now.
Love it
by Qshelby on 2020/01/03 03:21
Great on mobile and desktop.
Not happy- free online is much better.
by Acqua4life on 2017/08/16 22:35
They didn't include the side toolbar in the downloadable version so if you accidentally create a note you can't delete it. You just have to look at it forever. Also when working offline it constantly tries to connect to the internet and constantly prompts you to tell it that it's ok to work offline, which is really annoying when you're in the middle of typing in offline mode and this prompt pops up every 30 seconds. Overall very disappointed in the $20 I spent on this app, I would have been more productive in MS word until they fix these bugs.
Thank you Celtx
by thisisjacksparrow on 2019/05/10 02:11
Celtx has been of great use to my life ever since. It’s easy for me to write a short film during a road trip. I’d be so grateful if Celtx can provide a fully equipped mobile version, helping customers pay and access the internet through the app. I love to pay for apps with my iTunes that way I can always use the app on any of my devices. An update with these features will be very helpful. Thanks again, I’d rate 5stars for the update. 😘
Decent mobile app, with one annoying quirk
by Le Doinel on 2019/06/20 03:28
Periodically (usually after syncing your documents with your online account), the app returns you to the top of page 1 of your script. Seriously: I spend so much time being interrupted and then scrolling back down to find the page I was working on. But for a free screenplay app, I can’t complain. And as others have said, the desktop app is perfect.
BE CAREFUL. SAVE. SAVE. SAVE.
A Nostalgic Script Writing App
by Andreas Quiroga on 2019/08/15 16:26
I’ve been using this App for close to 7 years now. I was first introduced to Celtx in college. A colleague friend of mine approached me with this free to use software and I was amazed as to how easy and user friendly it was and still is. I remember writing so many scripts and eventually committing the idea into a live motion picture. Thanks for giving me that opportunity.
Very unpractical 🧨
by Zverkafski on 2019/09/20 13:47
I put the bomb to draw mor attention. This is a review for the developers. The app is free and that is great, I appreciate that. I have it in my laptop too. The problem is It’s so hard to see the letters and the page keeps moving around, it should stay in place and move up and down only, if i make it small so i doesn’t accidentally move, the letters are very small to see. It’s hard to write and to try and correct something. In iphone x the black bar at the top covers som stuff sometimes. If i could make a video to show it i would but the reviews don’t have videos. Problems like this might seem small but when you are trying to focus in your writing, They become very annoying and distracting. Keep up the good work i wish you guys become the top app for scriptwriting in phones and tablets.
Deleting and duplicate glitch
by vix025 on 2019/08/18 05:06
I really do love celtx but two things are drastically hindering my experience. There are several scripts I have tried to delete. Instead, they disappear right when I delete them and come back seconds later. No matter what I do, the scripts will not delete. Also, some of them have duplicated. One has even duplicated four times. It is extremely frustrating as I try to keep my scripts organized.
But I’m always willing to tolerate it because it saves my work without fail every time.
iPad version has some issues
by rusalkaparty on 2020/01/17 22:43
Overall a great program, though there's some issues with the iPad version, like when you tap the screen to edit in a previous paragraph it will often highlight an entire word and it's a pain to get it to just insert the cursor without doing that. Just little things like that, but otherwise good.
Used to be good
by Spartan753Cale on 2020/10/02 03:09
The app has been my go-to for the longest time.
Needs A Few Upgrades!
by Gabby2486 on 2019/08/09 11:08
It would be wonderful to have a less futile interface, a little more interactive and have more options available. The app is missing the "Act" format option as well, which is, in my opinion a key part. I'd love to see that addition, as well as a more friendly interface and landing page.
UI not scaled properly to phone, can’t work properly
by bobbydraws on 2019/03/25 15:12
While the desktop version is great, the mobile version isn’t formatted well enough to warrant using it. The interface doesn’t scale to an iphone XR properly. It is full screen in scale, but doesn’t play with the iOS interface well. Celtx is displaying info under the notch, and the clock and other ios icons are there making the app unclickable in those areas. Those are where a lot of navigational buttons are. Example: If I go into add a note, which I usually do accidentally, I am stuck on the notes screen and can’t get out since the back button is under my ios clock. They can either make it true full screen (so the ios overlay isn’t there) or scale their app down to fit below they notch. Or sooomething! but this makes the app pretty much unusable.

Please work on this application in the next update, until then I’m boycotting it.

by Briwil78 on 2020/10/25 20:49
Not very reassuring that the app hasn’t been updated in 3 years!

Great App
by Westicles21 on 2020/09/01 19:48
The app is great, it has every basic tool you’d need to flesh out an outline at your finger tips.
Like for as long as I’ve had this app you would think they would fix these things by now!

by Melancholicfrolic on 2020/08/21 19:10
I’ve hit my last straw with this app. It has deleted 3 of my scripts entirely and has erased hours of work on scripts numerous times. I will be searching for another app to use because I am done with this. I don’t know about the online version, but the app is simply not worth the risk of knowing it could be deleted or erased at any moment.

I often have to close out of the app while on mobile and when I return I have to scroll through for my place. When I do and I start to write, the app will sometimes force close. This happens at least twice before I can stay on the app.

One problem
by mega9g on 2020/08/06 18:05
I love this app, I use it almost every day to help me with my stop motion animations, but I cannot look over that sometimes the app crashes out of nowhere and I have to reload the app completely. Which means I lost anything I’ve written in the last 60-120 seconds. It’s a little thing, but annoying and needs to be fixed.
Please fix the mobile!!
by Uchiha iPhone on 2020/07/31 13:46

App closes itself out

I love the app but it always closes itself out at random times , I deleted it to redownload and the app didn’t save my updated scripts and then when I try to close the app myself I still get the problem. There are a lot of issues and glitches that needs to be fix that I have been dealing with for years now. Thanks
Very good except for one thing
by Corgizilla on 2020/07/21 16:07

Overall good so far mostly
by Glitch S.A. on 2020/07/12 07:50
I’m not really used to writing scripts (got told to use this for a potential project), so it’s help in that sense, plus it’s not super confusing (unless I’m horribly misusing it) but the app keeps closing randomly? I’ll be writing & then suddenly: it’s closed. But thankfully (at least as of writing this) it saves what I have, so when it DOES randomly close, the last thing I wrote is still there.

The app seems to have every feature I wanted as a screenplay writer that is new to writing. I’m having trouble with getting the app to actually function though. I was able to log into my account but, I’m not able to edit the projects I have. The app crashes every time I try to type.

by gnartasty on 2020/05/18 15:11
I have used Celtx in the past.
Then again, this app hasn’t seen support in 2 years.

by lamchungfan on 2020/05/06 18:21
It is handy, but the mobile version always tends to jump back to the top of the page instead of staying where you last stopped, so every so often you have to scroll through the entire thing just to find your previous spot.

BE CAREFUL. SAVE. SAVE. SAVE.

Would be perfect but...

Barely Works on iPhone X

Good overall
by toneswing on 2020/01/20 16:17
My favorite part of this app is it’s multiple export options. The presentation is very professional and clean. My issue with the mobile app is the typing mechanics. It’s a chore to select individual letters. I waste too much time adding periods and retyping sentences just because the typing system is so clunky. I think this app would be perfect if the typing system was more consistent and intuitive

Overall a great program, though there's some issues with the iPad version, like when you tap the screen to edit in a previous paragraph it will often highlight an entire word and it's a pain to get it to just insert the cursor without doing that. Just little things like that, but otherwise good.

I hope I don’t have to find a new screenwriting app after all.

by Kayona88 on 2019/12/19 14:54
I loved the desktop version for many years but as OS continued to update, this software did not.

Infuriating
by Trevanon on 2019/10/22 07:21
This app serves me well the last two years, when I was using infrequently to write short scripts for broadcast and radio.
Easy made me better
by (THE) William on 2020/03/11 05:38
Celtx is dope.
Horrible!!!
by nisaaelleo on 2019/04/24 22:36
First of all, I can’t even begin to write because it won’t let me exit the scene heading.
BE CAREFUL. SAVE. SAVE.
But I’m always willing to tolerate it because it saves my work without fail every time.
iPad version has some issues
by rusalkaparty on 2020/01/17 22:43
Overall a great program, though there's some issues with the iPad version, like when you tap the screen to edit in a previous paragraph it will often highlight an entire word and it's a pain to get it to just insert the cursor without doing that. Just little things like that, but otherwise good.
Used to be good
by Spartan753Cale on 2020/10/02 03:09
The app has been my go-to for the longest time.
