Latency is ridiculous
by astachur on 2020/01/14 09:38
Even on a brand new iPad Air with an A12 processor and 4gb of ram/256 gb HD. Almost 20 milliseconds of latency with their own iRig Duo. Unusable in my opinion. Waste of money.
I Actually Love it. Great Program/App!! Especially being both huge fans of a Queen and GnR
by Epislash on 2019/12/01 15:04
I love it. I use it (the iPad App, with my iRig HD 2) every time I play. Being a huge Queen fan and a big GnR fan I may be biased. I've purchased the two add ons for them. Although the factory "discography" sounds for GnR I don't believe to be even close, maybe the Paradise City intro. Not even close for November Rain or Sweet Child. Def need to tweak the mics and pedals to get a good GnR sound. I use an epiphone Slash AFD Les Paul guitar running with a Morley A/B splitter through two 15 watt epiphone AFD amps. I also own a real BMG Red Special and use the Brian May settings, which are almost spot on!, they are done very well. I have tried using the Les Paul with the Queen settings but don't get the same results as with the Red Special. I use the same two amps using that guitar too and get awesome Queen sounds with it. For an extra few bucks, buying all of the mics and moving them around, tweaking them makes a HUGE difference. So as you can see I am a big fan of this app.
Free Essentials bundle with hardware...?
by Tom_Brennan3 on 2019/09/10 20:38
Purchased iStomp I/o, registered app, logged in, registered serial #, and am still having trouble getting the free content I’m entitled to after purchase of the $300 hardware. It’s not rocket science, but there’s no clear cut way to download it. After logging in and registering, still asking for payment for the essentials bundle.
Annoying In app ad pop ups
by mandrews00 on 2019/09/02 20:16
I paid $300 for hardware that only works with this software. For the most part, the software works well. HOWEVER, the in app pop up ads come on EVERY SINGLE TIME i open the app. I can’t do anything until i close out of the pop up. Clicking on the pop up only makes it disappear for a second and then reappear. Its only when i click the teeny tiny s button that it goes away until the next time i open up the app. Ive talked with support team and there is no solution. This is how its supposed to work. Ridiculous. Never ever stops.....
The hate isn’t justified
by Jeffafa123211 on 2019/07/29 23:28
I started out with just the free version but quickly upgraded to the essentials pack (basically paying in full for the app via the other one in the store) once I realized the capabilities of what I could achieve for a fraction of the price and in a mobile form (via my iPad). The ability to bring my instruments and iPad with me for practicing with limited space more than made everything worth it. My only issue is I can get some feedback at times, but with some fine tuning and tinkering you can find the sweet spot. All in all a good product with a few money making ideas (which I feel are justified) for the quick use and portability.

I bought the dimebag package and I CANT EVEN GET TO IT LIKE I HAVENT EVEN BOUGHT IT. the first day I got it I could mess around with the dimebag amps and stomps but now I’m looking for it so I can buy it again like? And the App Store SAYS I paid for it. I’m so frustrated

Worked well for a while but is now unreliable

Had used in 2015/16 a lot with no issue but now the app crashes too often and isn’t useable
It’s a cool app
by Ra Ares on 2019/03/19 02:58
Besides the the app not working from time to time like now it’s cool...
Lost days and plenty of money on this. Sounds produced are 4/5. Several frustrations.

Gear purchased: iRig HD pro duo and iPad charging cord. Slash bundle. First, the charging cable claims it charges your iOS device but the advertising is accurate though misleading. Does not charge the interface. Need batteries or 500 mA power supply that you can’t get from IK Multimedia. Power supply for daisy chaining a pedalboard will suffice. Then you need to update firmware before the cable will power/charge iPad. I attempted on my Mac OS Mojave. Nothing. Then tried on PC Win 7 SP 1. Now the hardware is functional IF the Apple iOS device is plugged in LAST(very important). Gear comes with various entry line programs for Win/PC that all will request payment to make them anything close to garage band-like functionality. The bundle was not same as advertised, but AmpliTube can be used in garage band, so start there. Tones are solid 4/5, but you can do yourself a huge favor and get full version of PRotools 10 and 11 bundled with elevenrack, which will run about $600. If you unlock everything in amplitube’s bundle to “pro/HD/Ultimate” levels, you will pay waaay more than $1000, I think the DAW is $800 alone). Things to know about my suggestion is that PT 10/11 can be co-installed, older plugin support has been eliminated with advent of subscription Pro Tools. PT 11 stops compatibility at win7 SP1 and ?? Mac snow leopard or mountain lion?? The hardware for this is plastic and is not going to stand up to a tour circuit, but works fine to pack in a backpack. Elevenrack is heavy and rack mountable. Other similar product called eleven free in PT 10.3.7 and PT no longer supports many of the old bundled plugins that came bundled in 2011. I suggest skip the mobile setup and go real deal. We spend huge chunks of cash on hardware to sound good. This app can help you, but I just can’t trust the hardware to stand up to the test of time. Won’t replace it when it breaks, but can still use Amplitube in Garage band. Go that route if looking for portability. Hardware > $200 should have steel housing if the software is going to be priced this high. IK should be very forthcoming on the charging cable, MIDI cables should not have ~1\8” headphone plugs that hook to the interface, and this is good software executed very poorly by available hardware. Also note iPhone and iMac are one purchase. IPad is pay a second license. What baffles me is how IK chose to completely screw up a great app by executing its usability so poorly. You will spend over a day making all of this “portable solution” work. And don’t forget to buy a daisy chain power supply cable for a guitar pedalboard if you want to avoid the 2 AA batteries that people talk about replacing every 20 minutes. Good luck to both buyer and seller. Cust. Service did contact me via email after 2-3 days.
It's fine.
by Randy Willcox on 2019/02/28 03:04
Is fine. It does what you need. A bummer I wasted my free upgrade to the "essentials bundle" when I got my iRig 2 HD. It gave me more tones, but you still have to drop another $20 to get all 8 tracks to record on. I mean, 2 tracks? This isn't the 50s. But there are good ipad multitrack apps. Get a dedicated ipad DAW and use that. Then you have the best of both worlds.
DO NOT BUY
by KFB6277 on 2019/01/30 19:57
Absolutely the worst customer service I’ve dealt with in a long time. Bought the IRig2 HD and have been trying for two days now to get the full version that its supposed to come with it. I’ve put in help tickets that have not been responded to, and tells me the page does not exist when I try to check the status. Ive tried to call the customer service phone number in the US and it just rings, nobody answers. I’ve looked on the internet and this seems to be a common problem with their product that they don’t care to make right. It forced me to put at least one star, but if zero was an option, I would chose that!
Help, it’s crashing every time I try to open it right before my gig!

Keep an open mind here
by K3RTW on 2018/10/21 02:19
I have read a number of reviews complaining about the cost of the stompboxes and effects and that the company just wants your money. Keep an open mind when trying an app like this. You get all kinds of great functionality for pennies compared to what it would cost in real hardware. There is no comparison. I like Fender amps so I bought a bundle of them. I needed a set of the typical effects (delay, chorus, overdrive) and was set with about $15 out of pocket. I needed an octave pedal, got one for another $4. Also, do yourself a favor and check out the videos of pros using the app. There is a good one for the Stomp IO that gives away a couple tips that are worth your time. For example: dime the volume on a Fender Twin Reverb and get all the tone and gain w/o killing your ears or your audience’s ears. I always complain that I can’t get my amp up loud enough to really get the tone I want. Well, now I can.
Needs a lot of work for bass players
by rx12 on 2018/09/03 18:10
I am a new bass player and bought an iRig2 from guitar center. I figured it was a great way to get started with an "amp" without breaking the bank. It would also give me a way to figure out what I like from an amp before I purchase one. The iRig2 works great but I’m disappointed in the AmpliTube app. There is only one bass amp that comes with the version, that comes with the product. I have the volume turned all the way up on my iPad and in the app and I can barely hear it. My Bose headphones work just fine. I don’t need it ear piercing but I can hear my strings just as loud as the sound coming from the app. I have to crank the gain up to get more volume. I do have the noise filter pedal activated and all the way up. I can’t get a good, clean bass tone. I tried the other guitar amps in the app "just to see." Those get a lot louder but of course, there’s lot of distortion. I know that there are in app purchases and yes, nothing can ultimately take the place of a real amplifier. This is a mediocre, on-the-run choice. But this is highly disappointing. The app needs at LEAST one more bass amp if I’m going to purchase a product. The app needs to get louder for bass players. The app needs to have something to provide a good, clean sound. Perhaps something could be made that is geared towards bass players. I will not buy a product that has AmpliTube as the app choice again. I will be looking at other apps for my iPad. If I’m going to have to make an in-app purchase to get something that’s even decent, why would I do that when I can just buy an amp? If you play electric guitar this is a pretty neat option. It’s less than decent for bass players.
More like iRigged to get your money
by Anonymous41909 on 2018/05/27 16:38
One pay wall after another even after you buy stuff. Bought the fender bundle which was marketed as all the fender gear but it only gives you some of it. The drum looper has split second gaps making it too frustrating to play with, and the US is super confusing. If you drop sections and try to put them back in it asks you to buy them again. The sound drops out a lot and you have to dig through tons of settings to get to work again. The irig HD-2 uses the lightning port, but doesn’t have a port to plug power in. And go figure, this capability cost an extra $60. Returning this junk and just using a real amp. This app could be great but I’d rather spend my time figuring out my music than how to get the app to work.
Why doesn’t it work for IPhone and MacBook??
by No friggin nicname on 2018/05/02 10:24
I like it well enough. I can play my guitar without annoying everyone around me. And the effects are great to change the sound of the guitar ..... BUT I bought some effects and amps to go with it for my IPad . But why they aren’t on my IPhone as well? And MacBook ? It’s also irritating that it doesn’t link to Bluetooth speakers or headphones. You cleverly avoided answering why IT DOESNT WORK ON MY IPHONE AS WELL AS FOR MY IPAD PURCHASE. DOES THIS MEAN I HAVE TO PAY TWICE?...
The work ikMutimedia put into the app has really started to show...
by JRSIV1975 on 2018/04/13 00:36
I bought this app in 2015 & upgraded it to the full version in 2016. I’m writing my review on this CS version since I can’t write it on the full version. After getting the Slash, Hendrix & Orange packs I liked Amplitube, but preferred ToneStack from Yonac. The tones were okay but just too fizzy & digital for my tastes. I saw Greg Koch demo the Fender 2 collection on the desktop version of Amplitube and immediately wanted it for this iOS version. When it arrived I was blown away how far the emulating tech had come, and using the Fender 2 pack is a joy. I’m not saying the older amps aren’t usable; there are several amp/pedal combos from the earlier packs I’ve made good presets with. But the Fender 2 stuff is just in a different league. As I write this in mid April 2018 there’s a bundle sale going on, if you haven’t tried the app or Fender 2 I really recommend it. I’m no cork sniffer when it comes to amps, i.e. they must be tube, 50 years old, wrapped in tweed, etc. but I have a late ‘60’s Deluxe that this app comes very close to the ballpark indeed. Especially just a SM57, close mic’d rhythm tone that cleans up with some volume backed off...they’ve really captured that mic’d guitar amp tone. Highly recommended.
Just ok
by Papa Vern on 2018/01/05 16:06
This app is designed to get your hard earned cash. They invested in the best strategy to fleece you rather than giving you a great product at a reasonable price. Go with something else.
Not bad, but lacking.
by Captain Custerdome on 2017/12/27 19:25
I’ve used AmpliTube Mac for a long time as well as on iOS. With proper tweaking, it does a good job. My main gripe now is that the audio output does not recognize AirPods as an audio device, which could greatly enhance the usability of this app. Secondly, there are too many add-ons one must buy. There should be an all-inclusive bundle that isn’t overpriced, considering we are talking about simulation of real gear on a device that typically has an inferior audio path compared to a pro recording studio.
Crap

You have to buy anything that's halfway decent...no thanks!
IK Multimedia products are difficult to use
by idiotecha on 2017/09/18 01:14
I'm extremely frustrated with IK Multimedia. I bought the iRig HD 2 and it was not working. I found it that they were packaged with faulty wires. After going back to Guitar Center and picking up a working wire, I follow the instructions (which seem straight forward) only to find that the product isn't working. I can see the Blue Light is turned on when I plug in the lightning cable into my iPad Pro, but I get no sound. What's even more frustrating is that you can't find any tutorials or help online on the iRig HD 2. Save your money on the iRig and this app - use the money to buy some hardware.
Works great
by maxblack113 on 2017/08/16 10:42
If you have an iRig, you get a considerable amount of gear for free. Beyond that, the IAPs are pretty reasonably priced. The app is super simple to use and has a pretty slick UI. Works like as expected every time. Great app!
Great effects. Great sound even without IAPs
by M@rshmallo on 2017/06/13 17:28
This has a great basis to start with in amps and stomp boxes. The noise gate is absolutely necessary though. Wish that weren't the case so you can add other pedals in that spot. Also pretty bummed that a 3.9 mm speaker doesn't work with this app.
Working like a charm.
by transcendentalaccidentalism on 2017/05/15 04:27
I added the 5th star from 4 after getting back into tracking. I need to get used to the varying degrees of gain staging again. It's been awhile since I've used amplitube and it seems like the signal is either really hot or not hot enough, especially if I'm trying to record any clean tones. Seems like that's because there's some discrepancy between levels at all stages of the signal path that don't necessarily end up at the same levels that they initially sounded like. With an initial line in, then an amp level, then your effects that can drastically effect your levels, the track volume level, and the post effects effects level (without compression I lose lots of volume here) there's a lot of staging. But that's just something to get used to and I haven't even checked the forums to see what might be protocol. Bottom line is I prefer the UI over any other ios multitracking app and the effects sound much more like effects .. they can get noisy, but that's not a big deal either. (I'm a big fan of using the looping feature for accidental tracks also) Thanks again for getting the cloud iap thing worked out. That's what I was trying to do last time I used the app, but it sounds like any and all bugs have been squished. ITS ALL GRAVY. THANK YOU AMPLITUBE! As promised the 5th star.
Finally The Same Studio Tones Where Ever I Go
by Matthew N on 2017/04/10 13:30
Love it, especially Mesa Boogie in app purchase)! I've been using Amplitube Vst plugin for the PC in the studio now for a long time. I own the Jimmy Hendrix Collection and Metal Collection as well as a few other custom shop selections and love it. I bought an ipad a few years back hoping to be able to take those signature tones I had created with me on a budget but was sourly disappointed. The M-Audio Fast Track Pro interface I was trying to use with it just had terrible latency and sound quality wasn't quite up to par with other apps or the PC version. But several years later I decided to try the newly updated version on a couple of my newer phones and was very pleased with it. My Fast Track Pro interface now works well with all my IOS Devises (better on the new phones) and I can finally get the same great tones I was getting in the studio since they started using the same engine as their PC/Mac counterparts (Should have done this from the start). I have the fender collection and the Mesa Boogi (Highly recommended in app purchase) Combined with the Fulltone OCD distortion peddle (also highly recommended.) The Multi-Track has been great for getting song writing ideas down before going into the studio. It has an amazingly warm analog sound though I wouldn't use it for anything serious as I have found a simple ios update can bring any app to its knees. (Always wait until they get the bugs worked out and your apps have updates that actually work.) My only real complaint is that the only gate peddle available effects the tone of the guitar in a strange way. But there is a nice noise reduction peddle with minimal effect of tone. They should have given us the same built in gate as the PC version instead of having to use one of the peddle slots. There are a few things about the interface on the phone I don't care for as it's sometimes hard to remember how to access certain features but the iPad has one of the best looking interfaces available. Feels like a real peddle board in front of you. Thanks Ik-Multimedia
Must Have Portable Rig for Guitar Players
by RonCam725 on 2017/01/29 20:24
Realistic amp models. Requires in app purchases for most amps and effects. I know in app purchses annoy people, but the cost of the real gear would be much more. Get IRIG Hd2 guitar interface ($99) and get the IOS AND desktop versions free (thats over 150 dollars in software).

This app is great! Awesome sounds! Works great with iRig nano amp. My advice is stop being tight asses and spend some money and get some fx packages and amp packages.
Don't download
by Hd23hc- on 2016/12/24 05:58
Sounds like crap. The app is junk and so is the iRig 2. The store is closed or I would bring it back tonight. What a waste of my time and money.
Rip off
by Come on, man!!! on 2016/12/08 14:19
So I went and bought an iPad specifically to use Amplitube after I had already bought it (the full version) on my iphone (which they ripped me off too, read my review and explanation for iPhones). I thought I could download it and have all my purchases! NO!!!! They not only want me to repurchase it, they want me to pay twice the price for the same thing, just a bigger screen! Are you kidding me?! Well, you ripped me off! That's ok though, cause I just went and got the cracked PC FULL VERSION for FREE through a download! It's way better than the iOS in all respects, I didn't pay a penny! Man karma is a b**** ain't it? Looks like I'll be using my iPhone for the next while. Maybe when I see their 50% off I'll think about it....
Waste of time

Have no words... It is disgusting trial version
Really?
by MsMellyMc on 2016/08/13 14:16
A trial version where you have to purchase the effects pedals and different amps? What's the point? If you want to hear what the Marshall head sounds like completely dry with no effects, which is actually pretty good, this free version is what you need. If you want to hear ANYTHING else this free version won't help you at all.
App crashes quite often
by Projects tab crash on 2016/05/24 07:24
When you try and click on the Projects tab, from the 8 track recorder page, the app crashes every time. Which makes it VERY inefficient. It makes it so you cannot refer back to other projects back and forth!
Where's the stuff?
by BigScaryGary on 2016/01/26 02:22
I love amplitube for desktop, but this makes me sad. Very limited selection of gear. It's understandable that the free app comes with hardly anything, but what's there to buy is very small. Worse, there are no samples and no way to try them out, so you buy something based on the name and hope it's what you wanted. There has to be a way to know what you're getting. Buying an external device doesn't help as much as you think either. I registered the irig 2 and ended up with three amps that all sound the same and five generic pedals, including what comes free. For the good, there aren't any latency issues or popping and the software runs solid.I see a lot of potential here, especially if they can sync accounts or give more to desktop users. Once they add more diverse gear and some way to hear or demo gear, this would be great. Until then, keep this as a fallback app and use something like bias fx or tonestack to put your money into.
No stars
by helenc200 on 2015/12/27 04:09
Can't register, can't add effects, not at all user friendly. Worst app of ANY KIND.
No thank U
by Soundsercher1 on 2015/11/28 15:14
Not willing to down load a bunch of apps. When the free app really slows down my iPad it's not stable sound cuts in and out. I'm pretty good at finding my way around with in apps but this takes a little time. Not user friendly.. I only give it a 2star because I can return it to guitar center. I open the box down loaded the app plugged it in 3hrs later I packed it up 4 return
LOVE IT!!!
by ...c...dog... on 2015/11/03 22:37
Amplitube is just what I needed. I got an irig HD and Amplitube with in-app purchases. At first everything started to add up quick with the irig HD for 100 then amplitube with professional sounding amps and pedals I spent about 60 bucks for the amps and pedals so altogether $160 for everything. Now I don't need a jam group I just go to buzz tube app and look up a blues 12 bar backing track or jazz, rock, ect. And jam anytime with just my iPad and irig / Amplitube and guitar and if I want to sound louder or just better quality I plug in my Computer speakers to the iPad, and even at night with my head phones. I recommend this app for anyone who loves guitar but can't pay thousands for good guitar equipment like Orange, Fender, slash and Jimmy Hendrick's amps and special effects pedals. I'm using an old electric guitar that a friend gave me that sounds horrible through my cheap Amp but sounds amazing through Amplitube!

Just keeps getting worse
by Alfamaschio on 2015/07/02 16:11
So this thing has so many issues going on with it that it's going to be even hard to list them all. They seem to be more concerned now with adding content for purchase and they do with making the app stable and functioning properly. Projects crash, the recorder scratchy, Irig2 is not a good quality piece at all. gain knob is scratchy you from day one and the cord is too short. I'm done with this crappy app that seems to be in a downward spiral
What happened?
by Vt_brn on 2015/06/22 19:29
I was so impressed right up until the last update - 8 months of nearly flawless, intuitive performance and great customer support - but now? Not so much. App crashes relentlessly. Playback is choppy while recording and just doing simple playback. Mixes of previous recordings have been changed so much as to be unrecognizable. What happened??

I think for the most part the app works great. For some reason tho, I've been getting really bad feedback to the point where I cannot play. I don't know how to fix it. Sometimes it works and sometimes it messes up again
Little Dissapointed
by Al453 on 2015/06/13 06:02
It's not a bad app, but when I originally bought the app I purchased it on my iPhone. I later found out that if you purchase the iPad version, all purchases load to the iPhone. However, it's not the same the other way around. Ik Multimedia did install some in app purchases after I contacted them, but after Apple updates, etc., I found that I have to install the free version and none of my purchases installed after restoring purchases. Also, be aware this company is sickening with adds trying to get you to purchase their other products. Although you've purchase the product you will be interrupted by their adds.
Poor sound, bad investment
by Damien Margo on 2015/05/27 16:38
After trying a number of amp modelers for iOS I cannot recommend buying Amplitube 4. I tried it with a Strat and an SG and the tones were thin, brittle, and fake sounding when compared to my current favorite BIAS amps. I didn't think the IK tones were that much better than GarageBand. After buying Amplitube the customer is immediately presented with the fact that nothing works and further purchases are needed. Bordering on fraud in my personal opinion.
Off to a great start
by Guitarnate27 on 2015/05/25 03:35
I'm really digging the tones I can squeeze out of this new dual mic and operating system. My gripe is with the crackling sounds I'm getting, I try it on low instead of very low and still experience them with my iPad mini 2. Also my BlueBoard requires me to tap twice each time in/out for looping. I should only have to tap once in and once out. I'm sure this will be updated.
Scam don't fall for it.
by Josh C D on 2015/05/21 23:53
The free version app is lame. Constantly prompts you to purchase add-ons in app purchase which are Way too expensive. Full app with all add on should be free since you must purchase the iRig. For the price your a good way on to an amp. Given modeling amps start at $100 the cost of the iRig and full apps is ludicrous.

by Tonestones on 2015/05/11 18:49
Not sure why others have had issues.Works flawlessly on iOS 8 iPad and iPhone.Plug n go.Sounds great through my Marshall tube Half stack!People dismiss this app too quickly.Using a higher quality input other than the irig plug is key also.Using irig stomp on the floor and it's perfect,no signal loss, great tone. Updated 4/8/14.Purchased the Orange pack.WOW! the Tiny Terror sounds fantastic. My only wish with ANY of ik guitar apps, needs a better noise gate and/or less noise overall in the app.5 stars overall 😆
Not loud enough, barely works
by shialavati on 2015/04/16 06:02
Once I selected the almost-clean preset, the fuzz went away, but even gain and volume at 10, the volume is really low. The other knobs make no discernible difference. Routing the output into garageband gives only screeching feedback, which was the most disappointing thing. Wish I had read these reviews before I bought th iRig!
Horrible tones, but great support
by mfd14534 on 2015/03/18 11:16
I have to say that I received excellent support when I had a registration problem with my iRig Pro. But the tones in this demo version of the software are very poor and brittle sounding. Also there isn't much to demo. Two amps, a delay and a noise gate. So it's impossible to tell what the paid stuff is like. But based on this demo, I'd say the other stuff probably isn't worth it either.
Terrible
by Gregt44 on 2015/03/09 14:56
not worth the money and its free. Tried to play back a jam track and was unable. Tried to find support. Forums were useless. If a customer service agent bothered to respond to anyone they were unhelpful, pointed to sources not linked and unsearchable. Most were rude and crass. Tried to email support and came back as undeliverable. Glad I tried out free version before shelling out 20 bucks.
Horrible support
by robogobo on 2015/02/07 09:59
This app has promise, but bad design and glitches make it likely you'll blow out your eardrums, as the input/output level settings reset after the app crashes and restarts. I posted the problem on the developer's user forum and they wrote back blaming the problem on the cable setup I had on the iRig. But I had this same setup going for a year with no problems until the last update. I posted again saying the problem is with the settings being reset after a crash, causing high pitched modulated feedback, and they deleted my whole topic thread. So that's how they handle bugs. Beware.
Avoid this one
by ShockADD on 2015/01/25 22:34
IK Multimedia products should be avoided like the plague unless you enjoy wasting money on incredibly buggy software that gets worse with each update. Oddly, this used to work on my iPad 1 but is very noisy and has lame tone.
Worthless!
by Dick Lesh on 2015/01/16 03:10
For Christmas, my kids bought me this company’s iRig BlueBoard (foot pedal), iRig Midi Interface and iRig Microphone together with a suite of relevant software (AmpliTube, etc.) Nothing worked. And, perhaps I should explain that for 40 years I was a professor of mathematics and cognitive science at Northwestern, UMass, Purdue, and Indiana Universities - as well as being a software developer and experienced user of computer-based technologies. I’ve now retired and play a harmonica in several local bands (blues, country, rock, bluegrass). I mention this only to make it clear that I’m not an inexperienced user of these kinds of technologies. When I first experienced problems with IK Multimedia’s gadgets and software, I contacted their tech support people, and all they did was to tell me to read their manuals. I did this. And, to prove that I read the manuals thoroughly, I went though one of the manuals and make line-by-line editorial comments pointing out how nearly every sentence was either: (1) unhelpful, (2) completely unclear, (3) incomplete, or (4) completely wrong (in the sense that what was said simply wasn’t accurate). Then, I once again simplified my questions and contacted IK’s tech support people. This time, I did get a few suggestions about possible solutions to my problems. But, once again, virtually every sentence in this message was either: (1) completely unclear, (2) incomplete, or (3) completely wrong (in the sense that what was said simply wasn’t accurate). Also, the tech support person stated that some of the problems that I confronted could only be solved by purchasing more equipment that performed functions that IK Multimedia’s web site claims that their products are intended to do. Next, I tried going to IK Multimedia’s web site to see if there were other ways to get technical support. The contact numbers that were given reported that “the tech support lines were down.” And now, three days later, “the lines are still down." I’ve now seem to have no options except to ask for my money back on these purchases. … If you want to get a quick verification of what I’ve said, try downloading the things that are called “users manuals” for IK Multimedia’s products. The shortcomings will be obvious. These “users manuals” are not really users manuals at all. The simply describe what the products claim to do, but they give almost no information about how you (the user) could actually do any of these things. Also, these “users guides” contain a bunch of nearly identical photographs which contribute almost nothing to the meaningfulness of the text. … In more than 40 years of using a lot of computer-based tools, I’ve never encountered anything this bad in terms of overstated claims, completely useless “users guides”, and dismal tech support.
Pretty fun

So far I would have to say this app has been fun. We played with it for a while after getting the irig from Santa and last night ended up adding a couple extra pedals. The mixing platform is super easy and that is a great plus for my boys! I have not ran into any issues and have had great fun with it. I would totally recommend it......

90 minutes fighting with this product to download and register this kludgy mess of software and hardware on two different platforms, we understood why we got this regifted mess from our Luddite friend. The download was way too long. It immediately tried to approve a $99 purchase upon install. It would not recognize the the dongle after registering and re-registering the product.

I have this app. I also have a Fender app that doesn't work at all. The help people cannot seem to help either. This amplitude app is pretty good, but, I keep getting a distortion sound coming through my amp. It seems to produce a kuh sound on initial pluck of a string once in awhile. Not good enough for a gig or recording. I also have stompbox. That rocks. It is going to take me months to figure all of that cool stuff out. The effects are great, but, seem to sound a bit distant.

I purchased drum packs in app that are no longer available. Sorry. This is ridiculous. Kind of a no brainer that "restoring in app purchases" should mean exactly that. Too bad that IK can't figure that out. Projects that had drum tracks before have had the drum tracks erased. I'm done with it.

I had high hopes when I downloaded the free Amplitube in September of 2010. I bought several extra amp models, and January of 2011, purchased the 8 track recorder. After consulting with Daniel, who has been polite and prompt in his replies, I have to say, it's not capable of recording at a professional level. Very disappointed. Maybe it's because it's the free iPad Amplitube, but, I paid for the recorder. It burps, gaps, has static surges...very frustrating. I just tried to email some noodling snippets, and the email only delivered the text. When I clicked on the highlighted 'My Amplitube Mix', it took me to Apps. I've followed every bit of advice given by Daniel, and deleted it and reinstalled it several times. It gives me no pleasure to write a negative review. I would much rather be enjoying the app and singing it's praises. Sorry, Amplitube. Don Sweat

If you want to shell out a whole bunch of money and be completely frustrated than you have been in a long time be my Guest other than that stay away until you see some positive reviews. In theory this app looks great and will probably be a good product if they continue to improve upon it. Considering I spent more than $100 on this app I hope at some point I am able to use it and replace the equipment I was hoping to.

by getyourwingz on 2014/01/06 07:46
This is an awesome app. being able to take my ipad for an amp instead of an actual heavy and bulky amp? hell yeah! bad reviews look biased, nobobpdy talks about uninstalling and reinstalling the app. but i cant say that for sure because i just dont know. no problems here, perfect for my acoustic electric and great for my electric too! 4 stars because i think the $30 for the iRig component, should provide you more options when downloading the app. like using a serial number upon downloading for registration. it probably only costs a dollar to manufacture the iRig itself. That just seems too hefty a price to still pay for any extras in the app. but it works great!

I think I gave a fair shot to this company's products. I bought irig hd after reading reviews that it was as high quality & easy to use as Apogee's. However, I can't tell if iRig is bad or this app because nothing works. Every time I try to plug in speakers or headphones, they become the default input instead of the guitar I have plugged in. Thinking I might be doing something wrong, I went online for help. Nothing there to help me. I called tech support, but no one actually answers that line. It's just a recording. it refers you to go online to fill out a help request so I tried to do that. The website is down. Honestly, this has been going on for 3 days so I'm just returning the sh***y thing and getting something else. Terrible first impressions, IK.
Un usable after update!
by Daniel-NoHeroes on 2014/01/03 19:30
This app used to work well but after installing the update for the tuner it stop working. The app had to be re installed. First it was not letting me download my purchase expansions. Mind you I bought the Slash, Fender, Hendrix & the 8 track recording studio. I didn't have access to any of them. I open up a ticket with IK & after a couple of days the reply with instructions on how to fix it. Then the app was not saving my recordings, I open another ticket with IK & they told me they knew about the issue & they advice me to stay tune for the next update...Really, they had no issue taking my money when I purchase the expansions & now I have no access to my features that I pay for. Let us shout & clap for apps that take your money & then they droop you when there are problems with their software!
CRASH / FAIL
by DMOGSLNJ on 2014/01/01 03:44
Purchased every piece of add-ons, bundles... Only to find out Amplitude crashes with only two tracks recorded (less than 2 minutes long). Better on my MacBook Pro but for the iPad, I am more than disappointed... Sound quality of stomp boxes and rack effects nowhere near MacBook level...but I can deal with that...but to have this app crash constantly is crazy.

by 4pickupguy on 2013/12/29 22:21
Since the update I have lost countless hours of work and precious tracks that I needed. It's not my iPad, it's your program. I will record some thing only to find its been erased randomly later. It's not my methods, it's your program. I have spent lots of my money on in app purchases that I cannot use because they are associated with an unstable program. I want my money back and intend to pursue this matter until it is ALL refunded to me. This was good money poured into an unstable un-usable program. I will be pursuing other more stable apps such as Auria etc to replace the amplitube that I once enjoyed so much.. and when I find Amplitubes replacement, guess whats coming off my ipad.. It's your program......

This is the best app of its kind hands down, but if you purchase add on's and later purchase the full version you can not transfer your add on's to the full version. Crazy right. They do not tell you this anywhere. This is a 6 star app with 0 star customer support. They blame it all on apple, which I'm sure have something to do with it, but I'm sure something can be done about it.
Stop trying so hard to get me to buy stuff!
by Spyrojoe on 2013/10/31 22:50
Look guys, you have an amazing app here, but the barrage of upselling makes me not even want to use it. I know you guys need to make your money, but the way you're going about it makes for a terrible user experience. The ad that displays when you load the app is annoying, but at least it gets out of your way reasonably quickly, but having the "record" and "studio" buttons in the bottom toolbar is about the most inconvenient thing I've ever had to put up with in an app. The toolbar buttons are small enough as it is, and shoving two more buttons in it for functions I don't even want make navigating the app a nightmare. The fact that I get a message asking me if I want to buy if I accidentally hit one of those buttons is even more offensive. If you're keeping count, that's 3 extra steps I have to go through every time I accidentally hit the "studio" option. One tap to get into it, one tap to cancel the purchase, and another tap to get back to the section I wanted to access to begin with. I've already dropped quite a bit of cash on Amplitube purchases, and I would love to keep throwing money at you, but the upselling is so pushy that I really don't even want to mess with it anymore. I'm still giving you 3 stars because your emulation is great and you give me tons of options, but your UX is tragic. Seriously, this is freshman-year-design-school stuff, and there's really no excuse for it.

Great Sound
by Father Artie on 2013/08/02 01:26
I use this with Audiobus and Garage Band, and the sound is amazing. It does have a few issues with the recording sessions timing-out, but that may have more to do with the syncing of three different programs. Incidentally, you can record using Amplitude, then paste the recording into Garage Band with no problems. Overall, the sound from this thing is great!
All in all a good product with a few money making ideas (which I feel are justified) for the quick use and portability.

by Anonymous41909 on 2018/05/27 16:38
One pay wall after another even after you buy stuff.
DO NOT BUY
by KFB6277 on 2019/01/30 19:57
Absolutely the worst customer service I’ve dealt with in a long time.

It's fine.
by Randy Willcox on 2019/02/28 03:04
Works great
by maxblack113 on 2017/08/16 10:42
If you have an iRig, you get a considerable amount of gear for free. Beyond that, the IAPs are pretty reasonably priced. The app is super simple to use and has a pretty slick UI. Works like as expected every time. Great app!

Just ok
by Papa Vern on 2018/01/05 16:06
This app is designed to get your hard earned cash. They invested in the best strategy to fleece you rather than giving you a great product at a reasonable price. Go with something else.

Latency is ridiculous
by astachur on 2020/01/14 09:38
Even on a brand new iPad Air with an A12 processor and 4gb of ram/256 gb HD. Almost 20 milliseconds of latency with their own iRig Duo. Unusable in my opinion. Waste of money.

Way too much money for what you get....
by powerbookdude on 2010/08/08 14:27
I own amplitube for the mac and this is not at all like the computer version. I bought the full iPhone version and was disappointed with the quality. I thought I'd check out the free version for the iPad and it's no different. I also bout the iRig interface and while it seems to be the best out there, the $40 price is ridiculous. Word of Warning: Months ago I bought the PRS iPhone cable and it's CRAP!!!! ($30) At least the iRig works and doesn't crackle and pop like the PRS cable. My feeling is that this software is half baked. IK Multimedia is a good company and they put out really good audio software. I'm hoping that this will get better. I'm not investing anymore (like buying the iPad app) until I see it...
Digital isn't there yet
by DW in Spokane on 2011/06/04 14:00
I had high hopes for the convenience and fun of these amp sims, but they sound so digital, no life, no sustain, completely uninspiring. I tried a free version of Guitar Rig last year, can't say this has improved at all to my ears, but you might find these sounds useful. Using the iRig module is very noisy, although somewhat better with the amp modules in GarageBand. But the tone is such a turn off, I would rather practice without any amp or sim, than be exposed to the mojo-wilting effects of digital sims. My best advice if you want something portable that sounds great is to find a used Zoom PS-02 or similar device and use that with the aux input to practice. I play mostly jazz and blues and get some great tones out of it, enough that I dont at all mind using headphones to practice along with backing tracks, Aebersold, Slow Downer, etc. Amps sims might be okay if you like to crash along, strumming alt rock or death metal, but I imagine even people with those tastes and any degree of exposure to high quality tube amplification will find themselves uninspired. Line 6 sounds much better than this or GarageBand, but still not as organic as Zoom, IMO. But, still, must for practice.
About "Crap" litube
by Dean Jennings on 2011/09/11 23:18
I just started playing around with the iPad version after working with the Mac software. So far, I am having great luck with everything that I have tried on the iPad version. From my short experience thus far, the "problem" with importing from iTunes is not that it locks you out. The "Done" button does not highlight after you select a song from your iTunes library. Select a tune and go ahead and press the still grayed out "Done" button. For me, at least, the song is converted to WAV format and loads right into Amplitube. I own several homes and taking my iPad, iRig and a few guitars to move around and simply write and rehearse is much easier than dragging a practice amp and a load of pedals. I have even quit bringing along the DigiTech and Korg modelers! Not sure about the problem with the sound through a "good" set of headphones mentioned above. Everything sounds great through a set of Bose noise canceling 'phones! As for the effects being applied to tunes being played and not just the guitar, the effects are only applied to the signal coming in throughout the "jack". Tracks that I have imported from iTunes are unaffected while my guitar plays as dirty as I care to make it. Again, just MY experience but it has been a good one! I am giving this a 4 star vs. 5 only to leave myself room to be even more impressed as I use it a bit more! Give this free software a try ... as "Bluto" said in "Animal House" ... "it don't cost nothin'!"
Worthless Crap App
by NoDoodle on 2013/07/21 20:18
I went all in, the idea was nice but the app is useless. Every time they do an update you lose all of your purchases, their support is non existent and a huge waste of time. What I got was more or less tough luck, you'll have to buy them all over again. I bought the I stomp box, it too is junk. Don't use batteries, it burns through them in no time, comes on by itself and eats the battery. Junk, just like the app, and once they have your money you are out of luck. The sound, when it did work, was below average, nothing to write home to mom about, if I were Slash or any of the other big names who have signed on with these losers, I would think twice about being part of this sham fest. I have lost a ton of money on the in app purchases and the stomp box. If I can save one person from having the same experience, then writing this review was worth it. Oh and if you want this on your iPad and touch you have to buy each in app purchase all over again. What a bunch of thieves!one more thing. They only post the 3 or 4 good reviews, never the ones that tell what a scam this is.
LOVE IT!!!
by ...c...dog... on 2015/11/03 22:37
Amplitube is just what I needed.
Pretty good
by Deathsopponent on 2011/09/04 00:16
Overall a pretty good app. The sound quality it prety good. i use an aux audio cable to plug it into my amp so that i can use the effects and with a little tinkering of the settings can get good sound quality. As for the option of loading songs onto the music player to be able to play along with, it has one major problem. If you try to play along with songs loaded to the in app music player the stomp box and amps effects are also applied to whatever song you playing and it sounds terrible (ie. If your playing along to a song and using the distortion pedal or the gain is turned up on the amp it distorts the song as well) pretty much useless. So either use the app for playing your guitar, or use it for playing songs, not both. And for that - one star. But overall, i would dl it again and i use it often.
Pretty useless really
by jpamjpat on 2013/01/11 09:20
Downloaded this app hoping it would be cool. Instead it is annoyingly self contained and unable to talk to other apps- eg no Audiobus support. For the money (and it's not cheap to buy all the amps, fx etc) it should have come with a basic drum machine. Instead, IK only offers a somewhat unsteady and uninspiring metronome. Some of the amps and presets are not bad (not great either) but there's nowhere else to go with any recordings. Moreover, almost every feature of Amplitude costs extra and so by the time you get all the add-ons, you will have shelled out quite a bit of money - money better spent on some of the better stuff out there. I think if IK Multimedia were to bundle SampleTank and amplitude into a DAW with audio recording capabilities, then, they'd be onto something, instead of selling a whole lot of next to useless toys. That said, I really like SampleTank despite it not supporting Audiobus, but I don't get the poor quality of the rest of their products. In short: give this one a miss and save your money!
Crashes so often, I can't buy it yet
by Michael Henningsen on 2011/05/20 23:51
I love IK Multimedia. I own iRig and love it--works perfectly. I own iKlip. Way over-priced, but I love it, too. I want to love AmpliTube and am chomping at the bit to purchase the full version, but the free version crashes on start-up 7 out of 10 times and mid-use 6 out of 10 times, so until there's a bug fix that addresses that issue, I'll continue to use my iRig with iShred and PocketAmp, neither of which measure up to what AmpliTube COULD be, but at least they function reliably. If AmpliTube worked, I'd more than like buy Sonoma's DAW app for iPad, even at $40. but right now I'm not taking the risk. So many complaints about crashes for so longs, and no action taken by the developer to fix the bug? Adds up to lost sales for IK Multimedia and increased sales for Peavy. So far, though, AmpliTube Fender Free has worked fine, so I just bought that. still waiting for regular AmpliTube to get its proverbial crap together. This could easily be a 5-star review. Shame it's not.
Great product, 4 stars because...
by getyourwingz on 2014/01/06 07:46
This is an awesome app. being able to take my ipad for an amp instead of an actual heavy and bulky amp? hell yeah! bad reviews look biased, nobobpdy talks about uninstalling and reinstalling the app. but i cant say that for sure because i just dont know. no problems here, perfect for my acoustic electric and great for my electric too! 4 stars because i think the $30 for the iRig component, should provide you more options when downloading the app. like using a serial number upon downloading for registration. it probably only costs a dollar to manufacture the iRig itself. That just seems too hefty a price to still pay for any extras in the app. but it works great!
Great song learning tool
by FBKx2 on 2011/09/12 18:24
OK… so the effects are not "stage quality". There's a slight delay from the pick to the earphones. I have been using the iPhone version and have just downloaded the free iPAD version to see if it makes good use of the additional space. The best part? Playing along with a song to learn it. It has a A-B loop so you can isolate a solo - for example - and play along with it over and over. Unlike the other reviewer, I didn't notice any effect from the guitar input overflowing into the song I was playing along with. I had strong distortion on the guitar and the song I was playing along with came through clear as a bell. Other cool feature: If you import a stereo song, it has a vocal remover. Downside: You have to import the songs into it. It will allow you to select songs from your iTunes library, but it converts them to its own format so they essentially take up "double space" on your device. Overall, I really like the free edition. I'll keep using it until I can no longer live without the $20 paid version.
AmpliToy
by Vinslom Bardy on 2011/05/14 23:23
I'll be returning the iRig I recently purchased, then deleting this app. This is nothing more than a toy, a gimmick, a curiosity. First and foremost, I would give this app five stars if my goal was to listen to right wing talk radio while playing guitar, as my blues licks were evenly mixed with the local AM radio station. I haven't experienced this phenomenon since playing an old Kalamazoo guitar through a 1965 Fender Bronco amp. Needless to say, it's not what I expect from my noiseless pickup-equipped Stratocaster and oxygen-free shielded cables. Secondly, the controls are simply a joke. Touch the gain knob and the setting is off the anywhere but where you want it to be. There is simply no way to make a precise tone, gain or volume setting using this user interface. I'll not engage in the "one star meanness" that's common on the web these days. Ampitube is an interesting endeavor, and an adventurous undertaking, but it's not ready for the big time. If you're looking for a cute toy to connect your guitar to your iPad, this will suffice. However, if you're looking for a high-quality guitar interface for the iPad, capable of doing professional quality recordings, this isn't your app. I'm still looking.
Why are ios newbies allowed to write reviews?
by Curiositrey on 2011/05/16 15:37
First off, anyone giving a free app a one star rating has too much time on their hands - why whine about something you didn't pay for, and don't "need"? I use an iRig interface, and for the most part, it works perfectly in every app I have ever tried it with, Ampkit, Studiotrack, Multitrack HD, et al. Every time you install or update an audio or music app you should restart your iPad/iPhone/iTouch, everyone has known that for two years or more. Finally, this app only gets better - re-amping, fender upgrades, vocal removal, time stretching - and you can get the basics for free. Latency is low, quality is high, and these are tools we couldn't imagine having three years ago in something so portable and affordable. As for the guy with the radio stations coming through? Dude, you know that iPads and iPhones can multitask, right? Or are your fillings loose? This app would be five stars if they could add audio copy and paste, but otherwise it is an insanely good deal at the price of FREE.
Great app !!!
by Pez808 on 2011/04/23 07:15
I needed to jam, so i recently bought i guitar and bought the iRig and started to play right away. The free pedals that come with it are really easy to use, and when you find the find combination you can get some really cool sounds. I bought the overdrive pedal, and when you add some delay on it, it is perfect. You can load up tunes from your iTunes and play along with them. Perfect for me, so i can jam along to my new album, new possibility for a live show. Sometimes it crashes after you load up songs from itunes, maybe they can fix this.
Decent but lacks one needed feature
by VanityVania on 2013/01/26 02:48
I love this app, and able to process with the right mixing a decent thick and doomy sounding tone, however it really needs the ability to dual run with other apps. I use notion to compose and tab tracks first hand and like to play along with them before entering the studio to make sure I'm timing it right. It's app I can't do so. I can do it with other amp apps, but are either noisy as hell or I can't seem to get the sound I'm looking for for what I am spending. Please update for allowing it be ran behind other apps like other alternatives on the App Store
Rip off
by Come on, man!!! on 2016/12/08 14:19
So I went and bought an iPad specifically to use Amplitube after I had already bought it (the full version) on my iphone (which they ripped me off too, read my review and explanation for iPhones).
I have lost the last project that i'm going to......
by 4pickupguy on 2013/12/29 22:21
Since the update I have lost countless hours of work and precious tracks that I needed. It's your program......
amplitude rocks
by razzle_snake on 2012/05/04 23:53
I have been playing guitar for about 12 years, and I got this over a month ago with the irig and it is great. There is a hiss if you do not use the noise stomp box, and if you unplug anything while the app is open you will get bad feed back that is hard to get rid of without deleting and reloading app. If you can follow instructions this think rocks, I even play it through my amp and jam with my friends in the garage. It's loud enough for a garage band. I still have not tried it for the Itouch but will soon then it will be totally portable. Good luck and jam on my friends.
Add-ons will NOT transfer to paid version!
by ChrisB998 on 2011/05/18 17:24
Do NOT purchase any of the additional gear through the Free version of Amplitube - if you decide to purchase the paid version of Amplitube later, your additional gear will not carry over! IK told me to buy everything again and then try to get refunds through iTunes support for the things I purchased under the free version of Amplitube. ?!?! Stooooopid! Giving the app three stars because it is a great app, but they will nickel and dime you with all these upgrades, and then make you re-purchase them all again if you upgrade later.
nice app, sort of strange
by jackonia on 2012/05/02 01:21
only sounds good with my triple pick up hollow body guitar but maybe thats just me. can you not just delete a recording if you dont like it also? do you have to record over the track from the beginning or something? very strange, i suppose ill figure it out soon, i think the recording system just needs some user-friendly improvements. i have the full recording package, the effects setup pertaining to a certain track is sort of weird, can you not change effects without changing them all? is that what that single switch is for, its not really clear but it is clear you cant go back if you apply it thats for sure! an effects demo capability would be great too before you spend $2 on something you may not even like. its a nice app though, keep up the good work and if you're reading this to decide if you want to download or not, do it!
Not what I thought

Thought this was a great idea to be able to play and practice in the house. Wrong.... This is the worst sounding thing I have ever heard. I want good quality sounds not hire a guitar tech to tweak my iPad give me a break. I bought the adapter downloaded the program all excited and all it does is squeal. Then I see there is another program that you can buy that from reviews says is great but now I'm going in deep for $$ ?I don't want to take a chance on because they suckered me in on this one and it stinks. Guess ill stick with my Pandora's box. Hell even my rockman from the 80's sounds better than this. Even tried different guitars all the same even with all the tweaking I did. Frustrating!
Nice app, but needs improvement

I also noticed lots of noise, which can only be overcome with the noise filter. The signal from the guitar is rather week. It is nearly impossible to get a clean, undistorted sound. The distorted sound however sounded ok to me, and it sustains. PocketAmp is better: no noise and easy to use interface. The iRig works fine, it's ok for the money paid. Considering that it is a free version I gave 4 stars. I am hoping for improved future versions before spending $ 20.
Great app

This is a quality app and I'm thankful there's a free version. Having said that, I know the developers are proud of this but c'mon fellas bring the prices down for all the add-ons! They're outlandish! You'd probably make more sales. As much as I love this app I have no intention of purchasing anything in it until the prices are lowered. Which is a real bummer because I'd love to have all the goodies. Seriously, guys. Help us out here... or at least kiss us on the mouth before you bend us over. Thx
