SPLnFFT noise meter
Description
SPLnFFT is a sound level meter (noise meter) for your iPhone or iPad with many advanced features: frequency analyzer, frequency meter, test signal generator, dosimeter, ... This soundmeter App is the only one for iOS recommended by the "Laborers' Health and Safety Fund of North America". Here are extracts from other reviews: "our favorite sound measurement app" SafetyAwakenings.com "SPLnFFT is comprehensive, easy to use" TapeOp.com You will find more reviews here: https://www.facebook.com/SPLnFFT For daily use, a very simple interface displays the level of exposure: if orange or red, protect your ears ! Professional users will take advantage of a wide range of accurate and reliable measurements: Leq, peak, L10, L95, taktmaximal, frequency analysis, histogram, dosemetering, ... A&C weightings are compliant with ANSI® S1.42 standard. "468" refers to ITU-R 468-4 >>> Some KEY INFORMATION <<< : - you absolutely need to allow access to microphone to use this App - screen rotation must be un-locked - there are built-in help messages (speech bubble). Need more ? Contact us !: email, blog, Facebook,... - do not expect to measure as low as 0dB(A) in a quiet room, for these 2 reasons: 30-130dB(A) is the standard usable range for sound level meters and anyway a standard quiet room is around 30dB(A) whereas a typical anechoic chamber is 10 to 20dB(A) - to change frequency weightings (dB(A),dB(C),...) a LONG PRESS is required (1/3rd of a second). This is to avoid accidental changes Top digital display is for measurement of sound power in 'slow' mode (averaged on 1s). Central analog display is for 'fast' mode (averaged on 1/8th s). But it can display 'slow' mode as well on request: just click on 'fast' label. Peak and average values are displayed below and are holded until you touch the 'reset' label. The videos on Youtube reveal more details. Bottom view is a real time FFT (frequency analysis). You will notice that predominant frequency and next one are highlighted. Their frequencies and relative power are displayed on the right. If your input signal is a pure tone then this App will lock on its frequency and display a very accurate result. Green line is the result of a real time FFT done with 1024 points. Purple line is the averaged FFT (exponential filtering done on power of each frequency). Blue line is a copy of what the purple line was when the user froze the display the last time. A test tone at 1kHz or a white noise or a pink noise can be generated and sent to right and/or left outputs (select the type you want in BEEP tab). This FFT view - more precisely an upsized version of it - can be exported as a picture in your own photo library, using the camera button (when display is frozen only). This picture can be exported in a mail as well. The display can be flipped upside-down to ease reading: just rotate your iPhone while holding it vertically. As for ALL sound meters (thus including this one and all others at any price), calibration is suggested if you want to reach extreme precision. This is enabled in this App thanks to a slider to apply some compensation and to three non volatile memories (choice to be made in MIC. tab). How to ? For calibration, you need and external reference, either a calibrated sound meter, or a calibrated noise source. Note as well that the tiny embedded loudspeaker cannot reproduce extreme frequencies. Thus if you want to hear a real white or pink noise, you will need to use a quality headphone or HiFi system. This App was designed seriously for our own needs, by a signal processing expert, and is regularly updated to maintain accuracy and reliability. ***** Any comment, any feedback ? Click on 'support' in iTunes: there is a blog for this. You can even contact us directly by email or through the dedicated FaceBook page (note 'send email' top right) *****
A useful app
by xftyhbju on 2019/04/17 02:07
I keep it on my first page. I’ve had it several years. I have not noticed any bugs.
Very Accurate
by RCRX1800 on 2019/02/26 21:37
I’ve used this app for several years, it’s extremely accurate. I use it mainly for live music inside a club venue. This app stays reliable and steady along with upgrades of phones. I’ve found zero inconsistencies. It does help me show guitar players that their stage amp is louder than the PA.
Indispensable app
by Gigabit1 on 2018/11/17 04:24
This is a must-have for anyone who cares about sound, audiophiles, sound engineers and even concert goers. Use this to adjust tone controls on your car stereo or see how loud that club really is. With this app, I know for sure when to insert my earplugs. I am not associated with the developers.
The best

Incredible feature set. Very customizable. Super reliable. Frequently updated. What more could you want?
My best app purchase
by Eivind T on 2018/09/14 00:38
I use it all the time to understand more about the audio environment around me. I bought it several years ago. The author has all the time kept the app updated and current. Seems to be someone who cares deeply and really knows the domain.
Loud Maintenance Noise Started
by Seattle Rex on 2018/03/24 22:54
I fired up app to measure it while holding to toward the source, bring it down, look at the screen, there is a Nag asking me to leave a comment in here. Even though I have rating nags disabled in iOS. Nice guys, real nice. Thanks for putting your needs above your customer’s needs. Thanks for knowing your market. Cause that’s what people want to do monitoring noise. They really want to write ad copy in the App Store instead. I mean, why else would they launch the app, right? “But but it help us when people rate!” Sure and it helps me when people send me money. Can I spam your phone requesting donations from time to time? I mean, what’s the big deal? I won’t do it that often? Anyway, here’s the comment you wanted. You’re welcome.
Enormously Useful
by Weight meister on 2018/01/27 12:38
I love this app. It’s easy to use, informative without complexity and accurate. I use it a lot for wood shop measures, office and home. The frequency information helps analyze noise reduction options.
Great noise meter, best in the App Store!
by BP407 on 2018/01/26 14:16
This app is great and the developer is responsive taking the time to respond to reviews and address concerns. I’ve used other dB meters and have found this to be the absolute best. Buy it, you’ll love it!
Excellent
by Susan10128 on 2017/09/18 08:47
Accurate, convenient, and has several features (such as the one that shows the different frequency ranges) that help to understand not only the loudness, but the tone.
Hey great app

This update slows the iPad down to a crawl. It's locked up and rebooted the app twice in the last 10 mins. AND the OSHA link is dead!

Great app
by AudioEE on 2016/12/17 01:42
I spent many hours researching/testing apps that measure SPL and have 1/3 octave frequency analysis. This is my top, and only, current favorite ... now that V6.2 provides the option to view 3rd octave energy levels so Pink noise fed into the mic jack is now flat within a fraction of a dB on my iPhone6. With my Dayton Audio iMM6 external mic the freq resp matches my class 1 meter within +-2dB from 50 Hz to 16 kHz. With the internal mic the response matches my class 1 meter within +-3dB from 100 to 6300Hz (with -4dB at 50 Hz and rising to a peak of +8dB at 12.5 kHz before falling back to near 0dB at 20 kHz). The apps features are very thorough and beautifully implemented. One of many examples ... with the pause feature you capture two spectra which makes essential comparisons easy. As an SPL meter app it is better than any other I have found. With both a digital readout and an analog meter (with multiple scale options) ... Including the most useful 20 to 130 dB scale. Not to mention all the weighting and response time options ... And showing the min/max and proper ave on the same screen is a great help. Suggestions for future improvements include: - extend 3rd oct down to 20Hz - allow mic freq cal curve - when sending results to e-mail fill in address to be same as prior time (or provide way to enter a default address) - bar graph scale and cursor labeling is OK but some other apps are a bit clearer. Overall great job! Keep up the good work.
BEST SPL & FFT APP!!!
by SabresFan1 on 2016/11/27 03:41
Seriously the best SPL & FFT app, BAR NONE! Self-calibrate to improve accuracy! See sound ratings with A, B, C, and ISO-498 weightings, fast and slow response. Average over time. Active 30 second SPL graph. Fast Fourier Transform shows SPL (sound pressure level in decibels/db) vs Frequency (Hz). L95 shows "background noise" level. Dosemeter displays simplified "quiet," "moderate," "loud" and what is a dangerous level. More features than a store bought or professional SPL meter, for hundreds of dollars!!! For most uses, A-weighting is close to human hearing. Fast shows impulses, slow shows average sound energy. B-weighting is defunct, C-weighting is often referred to as "unweighted," though it is slightly weighted. To be used mostly for calibration of audio equipment.
Super Solid Selectable dB signalyzer
by Akmac82 on 2016/10/26 05:40
All jokes aside, this app really is quite honest at letting you know what's hitting the room, what's coming out of the speakers and hitting your ears, etc. The only "gripe" (and that is a stretch to even call it that) is it takes a little while to figure out what all the little semi-hidden functions on it do. IMHO, this is one of the best dB meters out there. It is accurate and STABLE <--- that's a major plus Good job, y'all.
Pretty amazing
by GreenCanDay on 2016/09/20 19:33
Finding a quality tool like this is a real pleasure. I especially like the custom interface that looks fantastic yet is easy to use. Given the easy calibration system and tool tips, this is five stars.
Support-Challenged
by Bob-doc on 2016/09/07 01:23
The program works well enough on basic tools. However, I have two complaints: 1) Stop telling me I should turn on Rotation every time I open the app! It is on! Once, on the very first use, is sufficient. 2) It is totally stupid to place the entire company web site inside FaceBook. The entire world is NOT made up of FB users. In fact, as a privacy advocate and free speech supporter I refuse to play on FB, and advise others to take the same actio. I don't care if you want to use FB for marketing, but for crying out loud, maintain your company site and support access on the open WWW! And use an open e-mail address! For crying out loud, the only way to even ask a question is to use FB messaging. JEEEEZ!

TOP ASKING ME IF I LIKE THIS APP!!!
Nice App!
by Klein5280 on 2016/08/18 03:57
I find myself using this App in my profession quite often. It does everything I need and is fairly on point. Happy with reliability.
No way to ask a question if you don't have a Facebook account
by Rey&Dan on 2016/08/17 22:33
I just purchased SPLnFFT and like the application a lot. Problem is I don't know what the 'db, db(A), db(B), db(C) & 468 is or does and there isn't any explination. I do not want and have never had a Facebook account. Without an email address or website where someone can ask a question makes the application very limited with no support. That is something I don't like at all. I would give the application 5 stars if I could contact someone but I can't. Because of that I'm giving it only 3.
Please make the pop up requesting a review go away.
by Alex22314 on 2016/07/31 12:16
Please make the pop up requesting a review go away. I wrote a five star review and every time I open the app the pop up asking for a review opens every time I open the app! I already wrote a review. I'm looking at apartments in a building right now so I'm opening and closing the app like ten times and it's annoying!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Every time I open the app I have to click cancel on the pop up window.
Superb interface. Works perfectly
by jfl483 on 2016/07/05 08:37
I use this to know when to get out of noisy venues. Great interface makes it easy to show others it's just too loud. It's also fascinating to see just how noisy even quiet homes and places are. Well worth the money.

This app helped me find the ranges needed to supress sounds from VFD water pumps.
High quality app
by FCGreg on 2016/06/20 09:26
This Noise Meter is extremely high quality. The included features make it absolutely professional-quality. I have also tested it against another noise meter software package and it seems to be very accurate. The amount of detail you can get between meters, bar graphs, etc. is superb. Highly recommended!
Great App
by Fuddtractor on 2016/06/10 23:41
I tried several other apps, but this is the best by far. It's worth the extra pennies to get an app that really works.

by sjneedmore on 2016/05/22 15:37
An educational app that might prevent significant loss of hearing or ringing in the ears in the future. I checked best sound apps and found a review of "30 iPad sound measurement apps review" and SPLnFFT appeared to be a winner.
Excellent
by skical on 2016/05/07 17:29
I am very careful with my hearing in loud environments. This App is excellent for reading loudness levels throughout my day. I sometimes work around an airport. I always protect my ears. It's nice to know what these loud situations could be doing to my hearing at the convenience of my smartphone.
University Researcher
by Ali__I on 2016/05/03 08:07
As a university researcher doing audio work, and having tried over 10 dB meter apps, I can confidently say this is the best one available to any iOS device. With a variety of professional grade filters and settings, the iPhone’s immense power as a microphone can be fully realized. This app is listed for a few dollars, but I’d happily pay much more for it. It’s worth every penny, and puts other dB meters to shame. SPLnFFT is in a completely separate performance class of its own.
Superior Customer Service
by Jmandjs on 2016/05/01 21:52
Update (5/1/16): In follow-up, contacted customer service for mentioned issues. 'FL,' there was fantastically patient, explaining application's subtleties. (and that it was operating satisfactorily) One thing I would still prefer, may be corrected in a future iOS release: Playing and Recording through Bluetooth. Original Review: "Recently, downloaded this paid app. Unfortunately, was perplexed then disappointed. First, wanted to see how loud stereo was. Unfortunately, because receiver was playing via Bluetooth, sound turned off when switching to app. (you cannot run another app. simultaneously) Later, purchased a handheld Galaxy Audio SPL meter. It, the Galaxy consistently measured 10 dB LOWER..." Jay M.
Automotive aftermarket exhaust testing device
by Rocketman1000R on 2016/04/02 03:29
I used this App because it was the only sound app that was built using ANSI guidelines! I tested aftermarket exhaust systems using California guidelines. Also interior sound level inside the vehicle. I use this app at work to verify hearing protection requirements guide lined by OSHA also. GREAT APP!
Great decibel tracking app!
by JAVMorales on 2016/03/24 18:43
This is a great decibel tracking app for us in baby and toddler rooms!
Excellent App and Support
by dakr237 on 2016/03/17 09:57
This app is very well done and provides detailed, informative and interesting data on sound level and spectrum. The developer support is first rate. I had a problem installing the app (an error on my part), sent him an email, and received a reply - and solution - within a couple of hours. Well worth the money.
Great app

I love this app! Great accurate tool!
Awesome support
by Gossamer0101 on 2016/01/24 11:54
I'm not an audio techie but the app seems to work very well. What has really impressed me has been the developer's support. I messaged them with a few questions and they responded in minutes. They've answered all of my questions and even provided links to help me learn more about the use of this kind of equipment. I'm very happy with what I've received for my few dollars.
What in the world
by Duvrbbbdrkgf on 2016/01/22 05:35
I used it in total silence, and it was reading 30-40dB.
Great!
by Philippe-Heli on 2016/01/21 17:17
Your app is very reliable, great effort! It would be nice to have SIL scales, e.g. SIL4. Further, what about a waterfall diagram with the spectrum which can also be replayed?
Excellent noise meter
by Tx9753 on 2016/01/11 19:44
I bought an i436 mic to go with this, the app has settings to use the mic, and the result is a very good noise system, spl, fft, and bar chart. The app provides an internal set procedure for the mic, and with an external calibrator, I could calibrate the mic & app which then measured other known sounds very accurately. The developer answered some questions, quickly, and the result is an altogether excellent product with support.
Fantastic
by YodaGoneMad on 2015/12/31 23:20
Wanted to calibrate my home theater, had the option to spend $30+ and wait a few days to order a spl meter or buy this app. Bought the app, worked amazing. I later compared it to a friends spl meter and it matched up nearly perfectly. Lots of features, everything you could want in an spl meter app.
Outstanding
by KF3DOM on 2015/12/27 21:04
This app is the one to get. The freebie versions are not comparable. This app works like a scientific instrument instead of a consumer grade app with radio shack quality. Highly recommended!
Great sound level meter!
by beboppinbaby on 2015/11/17 22:23
This is the one to get! It is detailed and has a wide spectrum of scales.
Brilliant
by Hipmeban on 2015/11/06 04:03

Buy this one, it works.
by Handyandy,jr on 2015/10/09 15:33
THIS app works. After wasting my money on two other apps that were totally useless I decided to spring for the big bucks and try this one. Has more features than I need but it is accurate and does exactly what the developer says it does. Very happy. Well worth the money.
Nice app...works fine!
by RV7builder on 2015/10/02 19:10
Lives up to its reviews in the App Store and on other websites. I can't vouch for its accuracy down to tenths of a dB, but it's close enough to tell me when I need to be worried about noise exposure.
Excellent app
by App user Jan/MS on 2015/05/28 15:59
I use it almost daily. If your looking for a meter/app to grow into this is it. I like the commonality between equipment and coworker/friends readings around the country. Thanks for writing this one. LM
Audio Engineer
by IG: @stephenfreemanjr on 2015/05/13 21:10
Best SPL meter app I've used and I have 10 different ones. I use this one on a daily basis. It's more accurate and gives more information than its competitors. This is the one to get. I don't have a proper SPL meter to compare it with but it seems to work very well. I'm an audio engineer and I like to use it in my studio to make sure I'm monitoring at safe levels. Also it's good to use when I'm out in public or in a loud bar to see what kind of levels I'm subjecting my ears to. Most of the time I have to wear earplugs! Overall it's a great and handy app and blows the others out of the water. Buy it already!
Seems to work. iPhone 5s not detected.
by Klavmanian on 2015/04/16 05:05
So far the app seems to hold it's weight. However, it seems like the iPhone 5s is detected as an iPhone 6. Hoping this isn't toying with mic calibrations etc. Will check back in for an update and re-review.
Great app
by AHMcCoy on 2015/04/08 22:56
Nicely done. Helpful info to avoid dangerous noise levels.
Great app has become even greater
by Jupp66 on 2015/04/08 08:11
I've always loved this app from day one: made from a guy who obviously knows about the physics, math and coding. But he's regularly adding new features as if he would read my mind. You will love and benefit from this app!! Promise!! And btw: it's amazing what a measurement tool an iPhone can be.

Great update - ugly icon again!
by peskypeddler on 2015/02/12 04:07
They had a nice minimal icon and are (yet again!) trying to change it to an ugly, busy and complicated one. Last time they listened to user reviews and changed it back... fingers crossed it'll happen again.
Fast, Stable, Professional
by Louis Jaffe on 2015/02/06 17:16

One of the best of its kind (that doesn't cost an arm & leg). I had this app for a while now and it always performs well. Has all the needed features and more. Plus, every update it gets better. I love the quality look and function of this app. I highly recommend this to everyone. A quality app. Also, I'm glad they decided to stick with the original icon. Some things are better left unchanged.

by Series of Tubes on 2014/02/28 21:57
Impressed with the range of features that makes this app worth every penny. I was skeptical of the internal mic at first, but with no calibration the app measured SPL to within about a dB of a common low-cost handheld SPL meter. That being said, if you expect accurate measurements, be sure to calibrate your device and be aware of handling noise. Pretty cool app. Five stars.

Well worth the money
by Charmstr1 on 2013/12/04 03:26
Read about this app online. Was rated very highly. I needed to find an affordable sound meter/ spectrum analyzer for my son's science fair project. This perfect. Took it to a rock concert and it was entertaining to see how loud it was (peaked at 114 FB, so I don't know what another reviewer was talking about that it was only for low level noise- not true ). I also took it to another venue where I showed it to the sound engineer. He liked this app better than the one he had and immediately downloaded this one. The developer is also very helpful. I don't know much about acoustics or sound meters and was very nice and immediately responded to my questions. Can't beat that! Only thing I could suggest is some level of tutorial. I had to figure out a lot myself or ask the developer.
very useful

More useful tool than my B&K professional meter for code enforcement work. As a bonus, I found I can use the FFT display for detecting the low frequency echolocation calls of endangered Florida bonnett head bats (Eumops floridanus) foraging over Miami. Totally cool. Underpriced for what it does.

Best app in price Range
by lawenforcerfl on 2012/07/20 12:22
Many similar apps leave out frequency, documentation and/or other important components--best at price, but step up for better app and it's $79 plus many very expensive in-app purchases at $20-30 each and you'll likely need about 5 of those.

SPLnFFT is a clean and simple tool to gauge ambient noise. I've not calibrated it, so I can't say how accurate it is, but it allowed my to make relative samples of noise on/noise off conditions for comparison. Could be greatly aided by the ability to record the FFT plot over time (not just snapshot). But can't beat it for $2.
A bargain
by schmooey2000 on 2012/05/27 14:15
This is a superbly well done tool capable of professional use- all you need is a good microphone and a calibrated source. Even with just the built-in mic it delivers accurate FFT analysis and excellent relative sound measurements. Anyone setting up a home sound system, a studio, or a PA will find this useful, even just using the built-in mic. It's better than a lot of tools costing several times as much.
Darn Good for $2
by Grgogo on 2010/12/25 20:08
Nice features and operation. I wish the peak and average displays were reversed. From an audio engineer's perspective, a VU type analog meter typically means an average while a digital display is typically a peak reading. Otherwise it's very handy.
Not ready for iPod Touch 4th Gen and iOS4
by Bob571 on 2010/10/27 20:04
Would be a very nice ap if it did not briefly stop reading every few seconds causing the pointer and graphs to drift down to zero. None of the adjustments eliminate the pauses. Sounds like the same iOS4 problem described by another reviewer. I'm looking forward to an update that will make this a useful ap and raise the rating to five stars. I am using the internal microphone on a 4th gen iPod Touch 64G.
Not ready for iOS4 yet
by WallaceMI on 2010/07/08 02:19
Please update the app for iOS4/iPhone 4. It's interrupting the online display every few sec and the app is reacting slowly. On the iPhone 4 it also sees a constant 15k Hz peak in the FFT!

I downloaded this to check the volume level at particularly noisy restaurants. It works great and has nice graphics ( I especially like the retro tube digit display). A previous review wished that this app rotated when the phone was inverted to point the microphone. The current version of the app does that now.
Need mic at top of phone
by Garlickguy on 2010/04/22 23:21
Great App but you need to add the capability to make the screen flip when you have the phone inverted to have the mic at the top, facing the source.

by Eivind T on 2018/09/14 00:38
I use it all the time to understand more about the audio environment around me. I bought it several years ago. The author has all the time kept the app updated and current. Seems to be someone who cares deeply and really knows the domain.

Great app
by AudioEE on 2016/12/17 01:42
I spent many hours researching/testing apps that measure SPL and have 1/3 octave frequency analysis.
JEEEEZ!
Great SPL and FFT app, great value!
by flyingdanman on 2010/03/11 15:33
This is a very nice app for measuring sound levels and the frequency and power of the audio spectrum. It also has a white noise and pink noise generator - all for a very reasonable price. The interface is visually pleasing and easy to use. Several recommendations to the developer to consider for future versions: 1) Add a page where you can view just the FFT part of the main screen in landscape mode, but keep the main screen the same. 2) Add a page where you can manage the three calibrations - ability reset to nominal, give them names (internal mic, external mic, etc). 3) Explain the green, purple, and blue lines on the FFT - the green has a short sample window and the purple a longer window - what is the sample size? Also, explain that the blue line is the last frozen FFT. 4) Explain the A, B, and C types of weightings. 5) The support forum is in French. Can you provide a forum in English? Overall a great app. Thanks for your work on this!
Top notch

One of the best of its kind (that doesn't cost an arm & leg). I had this app for a while now and it always performs well. Has all the needed features and more. Plus, every update it gets better. I love the quality look and function of this app. I highly recommend this to everyone. A quality app. Also, I'm glad they decided to stick with the original icon. Some things are better left unchanged.

The developer answered some questions, quickly, and the result is an altogether excellent product with support.

by FCGreg on 2016/06/20 09:26
This Noise Meter is extremely high quality. The included features make it absolutely professional-quality.
Well thought-out and useful app
by Series of Tubes on 2014/02/28 21:57
Impressed with the range of features that makes this app worth every penny. I was skeptical of the internal mic at first, but with no calibration the app measured SPL to within about a dB of a common low-cost handheld SPL meter. That being said, if you expect accurate measurements, be sure to calibrate your device and be aware of handling noise. Pretty cool app. Five stars.

Lives up to its reviews in the App Store and on other websites. I can't vouch for its accuracy down to tenths of a dB, but it's close enough to tell me when I need to be worried about noise exposure.
Seems to work. iPhone 5s not detected.

So far the app seems to hold it's weight. However, it seems like the iPhone 5s is detected as an iPhone 6. Hoping this isn't toying with mic calibrations etc. Will check back in for an update and re-review.

A useful app

Accurate, convenient, and has several features (such as the one that shows the different frequency ranges) that help to understand not only the loudness, but the tone.

Great app
by AudioEE on 2016/12/17 01:42
I spent many hours researching/testing apps that measure SPL and have 1/3 octave frequency analysis.
JEEEEZ!

Well worth the money.

by FCGreg on 2016/06/20 09:26
This Noise Meter is extremely high quality. The included features make it absolutely professional-quality. I have also tested it against another noise meter software package and it seems to be very accurate. The amount of detail you can get between meters, bar graphs, etc. is superb. Highly recommended!

GREAT APP!

I'm very happy with what I've received for my few dollars.

by Philippe-Heli on 2016/01/21 17:17
Your app is very reliable, great effort!
Fantastic

Wanted to calibrate my home theater, had the option to spend $30+ and wait a few days to order a spl meter or buy this app. Bought the app, worked amazing. I later compared it to a friends spl meter and it matched up nearly perfectly. Lots of features, everything you could want in an spl meter app.
Outstanding
by KF3DOM on 2015/12/27 21:04

I've always loved this app from day one: made from a guy who obviously knows about the physics, math and coding. But he's regularly adding new features as if he would read my mind. You will love and benefit from this app!! Promise!! And btw: it's amazing what a measurement tool an iPhone can be.

Five stars.

Otherwise it's very handy.

by Bob571 on 2010/10/27 20:04
Would be a very nice ap if it did not briefly stop reading every few seconds causing the pointer and graphs to drift down to zero.
Very nice
by W4JE on 2010/06/11 17:04
I downloaded this to check the volume level at particularly noisy restaurants.
My best app purchase
by Eivind T on 2018/09/14 00:38
I use it all the time to understand more about the audio environment around me. I bought it several years ago. The author has all the time kept the app updated and current. Seems to be someone who cares deeply and really knows the domain.
Excellent
by Susan10128 on 2017/09/18 08:47
Accurate, convenient, and has several features (such as the one that shows the different frequency ranges) that help to understand not only the loudness, but the tone.
Enormously Useful
by Weight meister on 2018/01/27 12:38
I love this app. It’s easy to use, informative without complexity and accurate. I use it a lot for wood shop measures, office and home. The frequency information helps analyze noise reduction options.
A useful app
by xftyhbju on 2019/04/17 02:07
I keep it on my first page. I’ve had it several years. I have not noticed any bugs.
The best

Great app
by AudioEE on 2016/12/17 01:42
I spent many hours researching/testing apps that measure SPL and have 1/3 octave frequency analysis.
Top notch
by One Room Shed on 2014/06/23 22:38
One of the best of its kind (that doesn't cost an arm & leg). I had this app for a while now and it always performs well. Has all the needed features and more. Plus, every update it gets better. I love the quality look and function of this app. I highly recommend this to everyone. A quality app. Also, I'm glad they decided to stick with the original icon. Some things are better left unchanged.
A bargain
by schmooey2000 on 2012/05/27 14:15
This is a superbly well done tool capable of professional use- all you need is a good microphone and a calibrated source. Even with just the built-in mic it delivers accurate FFT analysis and excellent relative sound measurements. Anyone setting up a home sound system, a studio, or a PA will find this useful, even just using the built-in mic. It's better than a lot of tools costing several times as much.
Superior Product
by swh1950 on 2015/01/10 19:22
I have been using this for a few years now and it is the standard by which I measure the others. It is money well spent for the variety of displays, adjustments and calibration tools. While, I don't use all the features of the app, each one I do has a clear, clean interface and is easy to use.
Fantastic
by YodaGoneMad on 2015/12/31 23:20
Wanted to calibrate my home theater, had the option to spend $30+ and wait a few days to order a spl meter or buy this app. Bought the app, worked amazing. I later compared it to a friends spl meter and it matched up nearly perfectly. Lots of features, everything you could want in an spl meter app.
Five stars.

Superb interface. Works perfectly
by jfl483 on 2016/07/05 08:37
I use this to know when to get out of noisy venues. Great interface makes it easy to show others it's just too loud. It's also fascinating to see just how noisy even quiet homes and places are. Well worth the money.
Great meter
by Zfile22 on 2014/04/20 18:16
One of the most accurate DB meters I have used. Amazing what the developer was able to do with the program and an IPhone . Worth twice the price if you need such a device, trying buying one at Radio Shack or other electronics store !!!
GREAT APP!
Pretty amazing
by GreenCanDay on 2016/09/20 19:33
Finding a quality tool like this is a real pleasure. I especially like the custom interface that looks fantastic yet is easy to use. Given the easy calibration system and tool tips, this is five stars.

I am very careful with my hearing in loud environments. This App is excellent for reading loudness levels throughout my day. I sometimes work around an airport. I always protect my ears. It's nice to know what these loud situations could be doing to my hearing at the convenience of my smartphone.
Please make the pop up requesting a review go away.

Best app in price Range
by lawenforcerfl on 2012/07/20 12:22
Many similar apps leave out frequency, documentation and/or other important components--best at price, but step up for better app and it's $79 plus many very expensive in-app purchases at $20-30 each and you'll likely need about 5 of those.

by Anoised on 2012/06/13 16:45
SPLnFFT is a clean and simple tool to gauge ambient noise. I've not calibrated it, so I can't say how accurate it is, but it allowed my to make relative samples of noise on/noise off conditions for comparison. Could be greatly aided by the ability to record the FFT plot over time (not just snapshot). But can't beat it for $2.
Really good app
by Butch101 on 2015/03/10 09:05
I really like SPLnFFT. I have a home recording studio, so this app will definitely come in handy from time to time. I do, however, have to agree with the other reviewer that those pop-up windows are really annoying.
Nice app...works fine!
by RV7builder on 2015/10/02 19:10
Lives up to its reviews in the App Store and on other websites. I can't vouch for its accuracy down to tenths of a dB, but it's close enough to tell me when I need to be worried about noise exposure.
Excellent app
