Haven’t really had problems with the ESPN app, but I just signed up for ESPN+ and the articles take FOREVER to load, if they load at all.

Desde la última actualización, me dice recurrentemente que he superado el número de pantallas activas.
It’s a mystery...
by Intermezzo 401 on 2020/07/01 22:21
Why can’t my home screen content reflect my favorites, instead of including sports I don’t care about? Why do I have to tap "More" to even get to my favorites? Wouldn’t logic lead developers to think that a person's favorites are important to them?
30 sec ad to watch a 10 sec video clip?!
by F*** **u fb on 2020/07/01 20:52
Way too long of video ad for such a short clip plus it always starts off blurry and I have to keep replaying. Sometimes it free when you try to replay....
Lacking attention to detail
by Gnarly bro! on 2020/07/01 20:19
I follow EPL scores and watch FA Cup on this. The league table should be visible in every window. The player names are misspelled. How hard is it to spell Souček? It’s just inconsistent standards.

UFC STREAMS BUFFER
by Pborovikov on 2020/07/01 17:07
Live UFC events are impossible to watch with all the buffering. Great WiFi/ chrome cast but issue with the app quality.
I will never watch an add for a 25 second video clip!

Battery hog!!
by DVARP on 2020/07/01 12:19
So much background activity that it can eat up 31% of my battery usage while being active a total of two minutes. I have less than zero interest in MMA but there is no way to tell the app not to waste screen space or battery charge on it.
You can’t edit leagues on “score” page anymore
by robobrum on 2020/07/01 01:15
If I can’t customize the scores page to show what I want to see, than what is even the point?

EsucksPN
by hammondwprld on 2020/06/29 18:45
Whatever you do, don’t purchase the service. It’s a scam. If you purchase, then they make you log into your cable service in order to use it. In other words, they’re selling you something you already own. If you don’t already have EsucksPN with your service, buying it here only gives apple and the channel your money and you get nothing. Oh and good luck ever getting your money back from either. Total scam! Shame on them both!
Annoying notifications
by haibane on 2020/06/29 17:14
It seems it’s all or nothing with ESPN. I only want to hear about a few teams, but yet they still alert me to league wide stuff, which I have turned off.
Wack
by unsatisfied american lol on 2020/06/29 16:38
They try to force all major sports down your throat on this app. I don’t care who the patriots just signed. American sports are wack. Why can’t you keep me up to date on REAL football and keep the nfl, nba, and mlb off my screen. I want champions league news. La liga and premier league. This app is capitalist crap

by Smokey8Strings on 2020/06/28 20:05
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve opened the app to watch a game from one of my favorite teams and front is center are the results as soon as I open it- GAME RUINED. Could you all please add a “hide results” option for a specific team? It’ll block all headlines, articles, clips, and results mentioning that team. I can’t be the only one.

Little to no personalization.
by TheRixta on 2020/06/27 21:04
I’m still waiting for ESPN to improve the UI on this app...and now I just think it won’t change any time soon. This is a fine app if all you care about is football or basketball, but anything else will have you clicking or tapping many times before you find what you want. Even as a ESPN+ subscriber I can’t get my favorite sports to appear front & center and have to search for what I want Every. Single. Time. 2 stars for the high quality streaming and for actually showing the sports I want.....but you just make it too difficult to find. How hard can it be to have your favorite sports & new matches on the main page? Come on ESPN.....you can do this.

Dumb app with poor functionality
by Proathlete61 on 2020/06/27 15:58
Regardless of what sports you like, you’ll get football and basketball pushed at you. I watch neither sport and even though I’ve set my favorite games and leagues, sure enough, each time I sign in I have to filter everything again.
30% of the time, it works every time!
by RoverClasher on 2020/06/27 03:01
This App does a great job on notification for all the things you’re interested in. The problem is when you tap to go to that article you either get sent to the home page with no semblance of where the article is or it’s just a blank dark page with ESPN across the top. Not sure how anyone reads their articles without being able to get to them.
Not worth it.
by tormenta_tormenta on 2020/06/27 00:49
For those of you that cut ties with your cable provider, this is not for you. You need to have a cable provider to watch anything good on the app.
Bad
by datboiibuggzz214 on 2020/06/26 20:57
This app hasn’t been as good as other apps for a long time. I have it because there’s not many other apps that can give me the info I need. I get a notification, tap it, and it opens the espn app but doesn’t go to the story or video I tapped on. On top of that I can’t even find the story once it’s opened. I’m not the only person I know w this problem.
New version/update is draining battery
by Marcus App Review on 2020/06/26 20:17
New version/update is draining my battery. It started with version 6.24 and the latest version 6.24.1 & 6.25 did not fix this issue. It is running in the background non-stop. I have an iPhone and “Background App Refresh” is turned off/disabled so how is this possible? To confirm, go to “Settings”, “Battery”, you can see which apps contributed to your battery usage and the proportion of battery used for the app. Also see the chart for “Screen on” and “Screen off” usage. I had to delete ESPN. Developers please fix this issue. I will reinstall when you fix this problem. Until then, I added ESPN website to my phone home screen and use it like an App. (To do this, go to Safari, type ESPN. Tap the Share icon (the square with an arrow pointing out of it) at the bottom of the screen. Scroll down to the list of actions and tap Add to Home Screen. Name it ESPN)

Stop the news and make it Sports
by TSand8 on 2020/06/26 16:33
All the alerts I get are gossip now and who tested positive for carona. Stop it and just give me sports news, not politics. Go back to the way it used to be where we’d get scores and unbiased reporting on sports. Stop feeding politics into the place that is our escape from politics.
Sports? No, just clickbait politics.
by Feddie TheLegend on 2020/06/26 14:48
I give a sports network my money and I expect sports in return, it gets more political every month. I’m done. Plenty of other SPORTS outlets out there and if I wanted politics I would seek it out. So quick to send out that race baiting article notification about Bubba, I see now that ESPN is complicit in dividing Americans instead of bringing them together. Sports were the great equalizer, you’ve ruined yet another escape for many who are feeling down and could use a lift. Goodbye.
So glitchy.
by warbuck1 on 2020/06/25 18:32
This app has been glitchy the entire time it has existed. They can never get it right. It runs super slow and most of the time when I click on a notification from the app to read the story, it just takes me to a blank screen. There is no easy way to find the story after that. It’s just bad.
PLEASE UPDATE
by Shaynasweetie on 2020/06/25 12:44
Please send out another update. ESPN has been running for almost 70 hours in the background over the past 10 days or since your latest updates. I have turned background app refresh off and have disabled location services but ESPN still has been killing my battery.
Draining my battery
by KB Little on 2020/06/24 21:44
The latest update is draining my battery. I’ve got a iPhone X running iOS 13.5 and I’m on v6.24.1 of the app. Just today, it’s used my battery for 5 hours and 52 minutes with only 3 of those moments on screen and 5 hours and 49 minutes backgrounded. Please fix this or I’ll have to delete the app to get my battery performance back.
Not Accessible
by IkariWarrior007 on 2020/06/24 21:41
Navigation while using a screen reader is not possible. Having just purchased the yearly sub this is rather frustrating considering the Disney+ app works great with accessibility screen reader.

Flooded with ads
by rrrragzzzz on 2020/06/23 13:40

Money grab
by Evangelist 11 on 2020/06/23 03:30
App sells other programs once you install and use this app. Gone are the days of just highlights and scores with video. Now it’s opinions and off field politics. ANOTHER LIBERAL APP . Doing the far left agenda . Promoting “their view only” .. anyone opposed ? Labeled non conformist.
Fix please

Slow. Terrible app.
Could be better
by Chelomiami on 2020/06/22 12:50
For some unknown reason, the app doesn’t work when connected to the Lightning AV Adapter. Which makes it impossible to watch sports and stream from your apple devices to your TV.
I thought it was a sports app
by theonebrad on 2020/06/22 04:27
All they do is shove left wing political propaganda in my face. They went after Gundy for wearing an OAN shirt. 😂 Pathetic. And anyone, especially straight white males, who even slightly disagree, are bigots who support “the evil Orange man” Might as well just change their name to ESPCNN!
Highlights
by mart_vsvp on 2020/06/22 03:46
This app needs to have actual game highlight not commentators talking about the game makes it very boring 😡
Disappointed
by Rewan2 on 2020/06/22 03:15
Very buggy app. Very disappointed by the performance of the app across the board on every platform/ device it’s loaded on. It’s also counter intuitive and the content is spotty but that’s for a different discussion. Very disappointed as a sport fan that the app is borderline unusable.
Boring
by DumbDumberDumbest on 2020/06/21 17:31
Not much going on with this app. With sports not going on, you have to find creative ways to keep people entertained. This app hasn’t done anything. Same stories every day. Then you have to watch the same 15 second Ford ad every time you want to watch a video. Not worth it.
Battery drain
by AirBallObama on 2020/06/21 05:10
Drains my iPhone XR battery completely while running in background overnight (background refresh is off and location service for app is off). It drains the battery in a linear fashion overnight.

by IslesGuy25 on 2020/06/19 23:53

Love ESPN, hate the app
by Cy Monsays on 2020/06/19 20:14
I actually dread getting ESPN app notifications about news I want to read, because I know when I click on it, the app doesn’t bring me to the right article, so I have to look it up. Please, just spend a little bit of money making the app better.

by henry.chinaski on 2020/06/19 10:08

Hope you don’t ever change your cable provider
by Freebattery on 2020/06/19 02:21
Once you log in with a provider, there is apparently NO WAY to change that info in the future. It forces you to the provider page for your old service and won’t let you choose another one. Developers, please develop.

Chromecast and playback
by Disney fix this please on 2020/06/18 22:53
Anything I play it’s stuck loading before it begins if it ever begins. I have 140 megas at home and this is the only app that gives me playback problems. Chromecast works when you close and open the app around four times and it doesn’t have controls when it finally plays. You’ll need to use the google home app to control espn+ videos. I hate that UFC and Toprank events are in this app that barely works.
Political Crap
by Jr87ny on 2020/06/18 21:10

BOYCOTT!
by SendingOutAnSOS on 2020/06/16 20:09
ESPN has decided to go full blown as a political outlet. Sports fans go to a station or app for sports, not politics. With all time low ratings for their in-studio shows (all shows are now between 100k - 200k viewers) I’m sure the same is happing to this non-sports app. One of the longest running apps on my iOS devices, I just deleted it without any plans to downloading it anytime in the foreseeable future.
Cannot Watch
by DudeMan22718766 on 2020/06/16 18:29
Haven’t been able to watch anything on the app for months. Would much rather use other sports apps to read articles and get news.
Bad layout
by Joebibbby23 on 2020/06/15 22:55
The layout is really annoying and the app is slow. Also espn needs to stop pushing their sjw propoganda.
Too many ads even with subscription
by iKristian13 on 2020/06/15 22:42
I have gotten to a point where I have deleted the app and canceled my subscription as there is literally a 15 second add minimum, sometimes 30 seconds, for EVERY SINGLE VIDEO! Even if the video is 7 seconds or something along those lines. How can you greedy people sleep at night knowing you’re doing this? I get the ads with no subscription but I’m paying and all these ads? I know they won’t reply but I’m just expressing my disgust with this app. I will be using B/R as my new sports app from now on. Just an absolute waste of time is this app.
Last Dance
by SnackMoneyJT on 2020/06/15 19:19
I changed internet providers during the Last Dance. Right before episodes 7 & 8. Been trying to sign in under my new provider everyday since then. It won’t let me, just signs back in under the old account. It’s infuriating. Please help I click on app support and it just takes me to your websites home page? Really?
Sooo many commercials
by jmowag on 2020/06/15 06:25
Watch more commercials than content. Abusive, be fair or you will get replaced. I love you but we are definitely in a fight right now. Reduced from 4 stars.
Focus more on sports, less on politics
by Morgan Wimmer on 2020/06/14 20:42
ESPN is far too concerned about what someone said negative about Trump. Stick to news about players and sports, try to be less political. I had to delete because the amount of notifications I get about “Pop slams Trump for...” is getting out of hand. For that we have CNN. This is coming from a non-Trump supporter....
Never shows notifications you click on
by KE1218 on 2020/06/14 20:03
They send engaging notifications & solid content. But when you click on a notification, it never takes you to the correct article/video. Instead it blasts you with ads then sends you back to the homepage. After that, the notification disappears and it takes a deep dive to find the content you originally wanted. Bad app.
Please allow users to Mute sports they don’t like
by Midwest NCAAF Fan on 2020/06/14 16:28
This app constantly pushes news and score alerts for “sports” that I don’t want to see like UFC and Nascar. Why let users select their favorite sports and teams if your newsfeed algorithm ignores that input? My expectation when I input favorites is that you won’t keep feeding me news or score updates for non-favorite things. Most popular news apps allow users to block/mute news for topics they couldn’t care less about. This one oddly rejects that “give the customer what they want” principle in favor of a “we decide what’s best” approach. If app content is any indication, ESPN is staking its future on the fickle popularity of UFC and attempting to hedge that bet by forcing UFC content down the throats of app users.
Bugs
by TIMANATOR117 on 2020/06/14 12:39

Crashes
by EPLFan86 on 2020/06/13 19:39

Odd Crashing on Cellular?
by Nimzter on 2020/06/13 10:43
Still my main source for sports news but with COVID19, content has been weak. In addition very recently the app seems to crash when I try to run on Cellular vs seems to work on WiFi. Weird. Update: *bug* may have been addressed in latest update. Hoping it sticks.
Now forced advertisements
by mutant27 on 2020/06/13 01:37
You can’t even X out of an advertisement now; even if I decide to not watch the video. ESPN is getting lower by the day....not to mention playing the exact same advertisement over and over and over and over.....someone is going to get smart and create a competing sports channel. Only a matter of time.
Stuck in memory
by tnt779 on 2020/06/12 23:21
I’ve had to uninstall this for now because the past few weeks it keeps hanging in the background for hours at a time, becoming the number one drain on my battery even though I’ve hardly used it. I have Background App Refresh turned off as well. Hopefully this will be fixed in an update soon.

Video player/library UI lacking
by HammyD84 on 2020/06/12 00:32
Fine for sports news. Terrible video player for ESPN+. Very difficult to find titles (bad search and organization). None of the UI experiences expected from video players like Netflix and YouTube. No favorites, no recently watched, no prompts for “continue watching”. Playback and download of content doesn’t work 20% of the time. Need to restart app often.

Far and away the worst app on my phone
by Ninjatsaat on 2020/06/10 21:52
It is slow, notifications do not take you to the story they are linked to, and none of my heavy investment into reading or watching sports has a chance of coming from this app. This app is completely useless, all of your espn articles are better seen on a web page, twitter, or another sports news media page. By far the worst product espn has put out, and they had the slap championships on tv not that long ago.

by Hlkggfbn on 2020/06/09 13:55
ESPN has crossed a line recently for me. I know you guys have always slanted pretty far to the left. But when you use your platform to relentlessly attack Drew Brees for stating his moderate opinion in direct response to a question, to me that is irresponsible, divisive, cowardly, pandering, etc... In that same response, Drew Brees also acknowledged racial disparities and expressed his desire to be part of a unified solution going forward, a sentiment most Americans on both sides agree with. Again, all off the top of his head in response to a direct question. Can we please try to focus on making positive changes rather than dragging someone’s name through the mud for expressing an opinion that does not 100% support the left-sided narrative? Maybe balanced and thoughtful content wouldn’t generate enough headlines and clicks, and that is fair. But don’t delude yourself into thinking you guys are doing something good for the world by shouting down Drew Brees and constantly pushing a one-sided narrative. You are dividing people where there is room to unify. You are making things worse. You are part of the problem.
Stutters and other quirks
by Sdmiller4518 on 2020/06/09 05:29
For an large company like ESPN- I’d expect so much more. I’ve tried to watch ufc fights, or documentaries and each time I cast it from my phone - it stutters. Then I open the app thinking to pause the spot I’m at, and let it catch up - it suddenly starts playing the program from the beginning on my phone. I can hear the show, but it’s not actually playing. There’s buffering on my chromecast, while sound is coming from my phone. Now I have to close out of the app to stop the noise. Other apps like Netflix cast just fine, not stuttering. Only espn.
Trash app from a trash network
by aware03 on 2020/06/09 02:09
Honestly ESPN is a joke. Unless you’re an SEC or Ohio State fan, this isn’t the news outlet for you. Gotta give them some credit though. They do a good job of scrounging up (or fabricating) juicy rumors about organizations in the sports world even when things have been put on hold for several months. Guess they gotta make their money somehow.
Typical Disney
by Dad of 4! on 2020/06/09 01:59
In typical fashion, the content to value ratio is well over rated. 15 to 25 second adverts for a :40 second clip and then right back to another 15-30 second advert. Seriously, you have to do something different. I even have espn+ and I still have to sit through these bloody awful adverts. Then, you fill my feed with content that is not even relevant. Come on, you have my favourites, and you can’t even write your algorithm to make it relevant. Was going two stars, but as I write I realise how disappointed I am when I go in to hopefully enjoy content. What a let down this app is from a supposed “worldwide leader”, bollocks!
Videos won’t load
by tommyte on 2020/06/08 21:55
I spend more time watching ads then the highlights because they won’t load and but ads have no issues. Crystal clear every time, Verizon commercials. Horrible app.

by ABC in china on 2020/06/08 09:26
im deleting this app using sports illustrated instead recently the constant noxious push of ufc events and content is unwelcomed and unacceptable to me, especially given dana white’s glorification of violence and trump espn, you made your decision on who you want to align yourselves with, and that’s fine but now i make my decision not to use your product anymore
Terrible on Apple TV
by electrogreen on 2020/06/07 04:54
This app seems to work fine on the iPhone, but the Apple TV version is absolutely terrible. Crashes every time I try to fast forward, very clunky menu responsiveness, very glitchy in general. Will be deleting after I finish The Last Dance.
Download if you enjoy bugs
by Vcdfjnbdtjnd on 2020/06/06 23:30
I’ve never seen a major company have such a buggy app. Unresponsive most of the time. Requires several restarts before you are lucky enough to actually select what you want. Half the time the screen just stays black and doesn’t load anything.
Battery usage
by Jjaguars on 2020/06/06 22:41
I have the same complaints about the app and if I’m paying for espn+, why do I have to see ads? Also it is slow but my main complaint is that it is using most of my battery life when it is only supposed to use data while I’m on the app and background app refresh isn’t on. It used 50% of my battery life yesterday when I never opened the app. It has been going on for about a week. I uninstalled it.
The watch section and all of ESPN+ needs a lot of work.
by rhar19 on 2020/06/06 22:40
Streaming never connects. Navigation is god awful.
Unfinished
by # murica on 2020/06/06 18:49
The app is too slow even for someone with patience. You can pause the video you are watching and go to another app, it will continue playing the video that you paused and slow your phone down to just a couple of frames. The loading times are confusing and most often the buttons on the screen do not react when they are touched so the app must be reset.
Delay of game.... 5 yd penalty on ESPN+....
by cowboy redskin fan 2018 on 2020/01/19 18:32
I would say once you actually get the ESPN+ app installed it works pretty well on Roku and is easy to navigate with the remote......the big problem is it literally takes a PhD and engineering degree to get the app installed on a non QLED TV which many do not have esp if you’ve purchased a tv prior to 2017.....ESPN also failed to offer a heads up on this so if you have an older tv be prepared for a long set up process.....after about 8 hours and a trip to the store to purchase said Roku device we hunkered down to watch Connor v cowboy....sad to say 40 secs was a huge letdown but it looks like the UFC lineup In coming months looks promising....One other note....the sound was on a 10-15 sec delay which was annoying and unacceptable...I’m wondering if anyone else had this issue....I did appreciate the discounted price for the fight so overall some good and some bad points...work on that streaming being in sync and we’ll be back with another review after the next fight....GO NINERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Poor App, difficult to connect/watch
by Shahryar1983 on 2020/01/04 22:08
I honestly have difficulty deciding which is worse, the ESPN app or the website, as far as being able to view live games. Typically, I have to log in and out 5-10 times and independently log in to my cable provider 5-10 times each time I want to stream live games or replays. It’s quite amazing how many times you can be told that your cable subscription does not cover the live stream only to find out, on the 10th attempt, that it does. Considering it’s listed as one of the supported cable subscriptions, I’m guessing the 10th time is accurate. I have considered the possibility that it’s related to my cable provider, but since I experience the same issues with my ESPN+ subscription without going through my cable provider, I’m guessing it’s not. Of note, ESPN+ won’t be renewed. I remember watching ESPN when I was young and have continued to do so as I approach middle age, but the difficulty in accessing programming with more modern technology is quite frustrating and makes me want to find another avenue to watch my football, baseball, etc. Disney, if you’re reading this, you could really help improve the quality by fixing some of these issues before a mass exodus of subscribers who watch on mobile devices or their computers.
How?
by tate8525 on 2020/04/28 02:14
I honestly have no idea how a company with as much money as this has such an awful app. It’s slow, bordering on unresponsive sometimes. My phone is flaming hot after a few minutes of use on the app, although that could just be my phone and not the app. I get a lot of alerts on from ESPN, but when I click on them, it’s about a 50/50 shot of whether or not I get to see what I clicked. Ads freeze all the time, keeping me from getting to a video I click on. Videos also typically start at about 4 pixels on the screen and get marginally better as the video goes on, no matter if I’m connected to my very good WiFi or my cellular data. The amount of content is also a little subpar. When you look at an app like Bleacher Report that produces an insane amount of well-done and free content on an app that actually works, the paywall of ESPN+ is just silly. Streaming from the app is also nearly impossible for me. But the website is just as bad. The content that I actually get to see is usually pretty good stuff, making it a two star rating instead of a one star. Considering the money ESPN and Disney have, they should be embarrassed about the quality of their app and their website.
Quality of Articles
by USMarineKV on 2018/11/01 14:38
I use the app for updates on scores mainly. The content in terms of writing, is often old, and without substance that would differentiate from merely the score. Redundancy seems to be the theme with ESPN. Let’s just write and speak the same things over and over regardless of the audience be it on an app or television. I miss Peter Gammons and his writing, but I will compliment Buster Olney for his piece on the Red Sox. ESPN needs more of that, and less of the redundancy. Return to the daily writing of yesteryear! Do some actually research and writing! There’re stories out there, and one of them is the return of “heat, cheese, hard-ball” through a proliferation of hard throwing relievers and starting pitching that has brought baseball back full circle. Spinning is still statistically important, but good old country hardball has returned! Here it is, hit it if you can is what every fan wants to see! Nathan Eavoldi showed the world that, of the many players in today’s game who have had Tommy John Surgery, a return to, and in some cases, new found power pitching is possible. So, country hardball, and Hope should be the theme to talk about in much more depth. Seek out minor leaguers, follow them as well, and shed light on what’s the biggest development in baseball today.
0 stars if i could
by Nathan Mumford on 2020/03/15 00:36
this is hands down the WORST app i’ve ever had the misery of dealing with right along side with the UFC Fight Pass app. as a fight fan- losing connections risks missing a finish or knock out so i live in constant fear of even looking at the ESPN app once i’ve finally gotten it to connect to literally anything like a smart tv or chromcast and even on playstation. it’s awful. just tonight i’m in the middle of the main event fight when the stream begins to freeze and buff and drop quality for no good apparent reason whatsoever, so of course this means i have to deal with opening the app and reconnecting which is a good 5-10 minute process, no less than 15 seconds later the phone disconnects from the chromecast and begins playing on my phone screen revealing one of the fighters celebrating his victory that i had just missed seconds after the stream froze for no reason. this isn’t even the first time either i’m just finally so sick of it i refuse to stream any fight or sports event through their app or website. it’s no wonder illegal streams are dominating that portion of the industry, everyone’s tired of wasting their money on things that work better for free. 86’d this sh-t from my phone and all other devices. saves storage space.
Slow and disappointing
by Just trying to help people on 2018/08/08 17:26
So far, this app has been great, but there are a few things that make me rate less than a 5 or 4. I primarily use this app for baseball, as football season hasn't started. I just installed this app it to see if it was better that other baseball viewing apps I own. So far, the interface is great and well designed, but the app is SLOW! It takes a long time to start up, and it has a hard time with simple actions in general such as clicking on the details or score of a game. So far, I have had no problem with the live TV viewing aspect of it, but it should be noted that I haven't used it much as I am at home with my TV. The main thing that annoys me the most is that when I click on a player up at bat in the app, it brings me to a glitched version of the app’s website. You are unable to scroll, and have to use a drop down menu to continue on to the stats. Then when you finally get the stats, there is barely anything! In other apps, I can click on the player an instantly get an in-app page of TONS of stats, just like it should be! ESPN, fix this please!
It has been ruined
by WesleyHansen on 2017/12/02 22:13
The ESPN app has been my go-to app for sports news, scores, and recaps for a long time. But it has been ruined with the latest updates and redesigns. The app is almost unusable these days. Even when I am at home, on wifi, with nothing else running on my phone, the app is slow and crashes often. Don’t even think about using it at a game or anywhere your connection isn’t perfect. They have overburdened the app with video, ads, and cookies that slow it down to a crawl or even just prohibit you from even being able to open the app at all. Today I finally jumped onto the apps “text support” to see what I could do to improve my experience. Unfortunately the ESPN support rep proceeded to first accuse me of having a bad connection. I pointed out that he was incorrect and the rep then informed me that the app stores a lot of cookies and I should just delete the app and reinstall it. This is an annoying suggestion but I did it anyway. There was no improvement. And the tactless interaction with the rep definitely did not help the situation. The point is, you can do better. Go find another app that works and was designed by a company that still cares about their user base.
Could be great, but won’t save your place!!
by krokkta on 2019/12/12 14:10
I recently subscribed because of the Disney bundle and there are a lot of things I really am liking about ESPN +. I love all the old programming like all the archived Indy 500 races and Mohamed Ali fights. I also really like all the ESPN original programming like Payton’s places and being able to access all of the 30 for 30 episodes. That for me is probably one of the best things about the subscription. My frustration comes because a lot of those shows are long and I don’t watch them in one sitting You would think that there would be a ‘continue watching’ feature like every other paid, streaming subscription but there isn’t. I contacted ESPN and was told to just “remember where you were.” That seems so silly and unnecessary. Please ESPN, add a ‘continue watching’ feature and I will be a 5 star happy customer. As it is right now I have to scroll back through programming, find the show I was watching, click on it, and try to remember where I was and start fast forwarding which is a huge pain if your like me and watch different shows depending on the mood you are in.
UFC Content...
by BrokenCylon on 2019/06/18 15:54
Update: Yay!!! Y’all fixed it, Tysm Devs, if you’re going to change how the content is displayed you should put that in the update notes, not just say that you’ve added an In-App ppv feature & nothing else but bug squashing... I can’t find any of the Greatest (KO’s, Submissions, Rivalries, etc...) videos (if they’re even on there anymore) w/how y’all have changed the landscape, there is no longer a “See All” tappable button to the right of the group heading so you can browse content, you just have to scroll from the right & read each individual title that way until it eventually ends & it seams like they’re not even in there...& as for the group headings that can be scrolled all there is now is Upcoming, Related & On-Demand, but again, no tappable “See All” button to browse anything else that was just there a few weeks ago.?
Not sure where to rate AppleTV version
by D.a.v.e. (Mic3) on 2019/02/10 17:23
The phone version of this app is...adequate. Could definitely be improved by having a ‘don’t show me’ list, because when have I ever wanted notifications on golf or baseball, but it’s mostly fine. The Apple TV version, however, is hot garbage and I don’t understand why. I’m legitimately hoping someone can help me. There’s no favorite teams/sports list, which means I have to dig for what I want to watch every time. Again, no ‘don’t show me’ list (really good idea, please implement), no replays button on the home screen like there used to be so now to watch last nights game I have to dig...a lot, and worst of all every time I use the app. it. keeps. kicking. me. out. and showing me something about AirPlay despite me having meticulously turned off everything AirPlay related on my Apple TV. This doesn’t happen with other apps, only espn. It makes games unwatchable. ESPN actively makes sports unsupportable. All I want to do is watch my basketball game without having to dig thru layers and layers of menus to find it and without the app crashing every 3 minutes. Someone please help me. 3 stars to the phone version, -3 to the appletv version.
An exercise in futility
by Atime4treasom on 2019/02/01 23:17
Firstly: I subscribed because of the UFC partnership so my experience is limited to that aspect. First problem is the interface. Everything is just jumbled it. The site has a million different links even once you select the MMA tab and it is unclear where to go. There are multiple search tabs and as far as I can work out, none of them allow you to search for specific fights. Searching for fights on these (I.E. Dillashaw vs. Cejudo) just seems to give you a mash of news articles, fighter profiles and press clips. Scrolling down to the 'binge fight' sections is not much better. The fights are splayed out in no particular order and the replays are intermingled with highlight versions. No way that I can discern to look for a specific fight. When I finally found Cejudo vs Dillashaw (which aired exclusively on this platform) it said the fight hadn't occurred yet. It was two weeks ago. Customer Service: I decided to try the chat support. The first time I was connected to a rep. When I asked a question, the rep ended the chat. Second attempt I've been waiting for 35 minutes and running. How can the biggest sports network on earth be this terrible.
Everything Except Streaming is Great
by Bearsman34 on 2018/05/16 18:32
ESPN, I have been all ESPN ever since I was old enough to care about sports. The writing and reporting is phenomenal, and I love to be the one in my family to break the biggest sports news. The app is great with notifications on your favorite teams and leagues as well as breaking sports news. The radio streaming and podcasts are great especially my favorites (Lebatard Show, Golic and Wingo, and 30 for 30). I will continue to use this app for all of those reasons. I do however wish you guys had full game highlights online, but I digress. The only bad thing I have to say is how god awful the streaming is. Tried to watch the ECF between cavs and Celtics and it lagged throughout the entire game when casting it to my chrome cast. It did the same just trying to watch on my phone and I have gigabit internet. I don’t know why that has always been an issue for ESPN. It has sucked since the first release of WatchESPN. PLEASE FIX THIS!!!! I’m begging you because the wife kicks me out of our tv room when I’m trying to watch the games! Thank you ESPN, and keep up the good work!
Suggestions and complaints
by Andrew Mollenauer on 2018/11/01 22:43
This is a great app. I am, however, disappointed in a few key things. 1. I had my favorite teams selected in “favorites,” and one day I opened the app only to find that there was no “favorites” setting visible, and that my favorite teams scores notifications were turned off even though I never turned them off. 2. I’ve said this in previous reviews, and I’ll say it again; I really really wish you’d put AHL hockey in here. The AHL is a minor league, but it’s got a strong enough following, and I absolutely love it, and I’d love to be able to more easily access the scores/news/stats for it here as opposed to having to go to the AHL website every time. 3. NCAA hockey, both men’s and women’s, are listed as sports on here, but whenever I check I never see them updated or covered as much as the games are happening. For example, I’m a Penn State fan, and I never see the scores for my school. Hockey is big, as is college hockey, so this is disappointing and surprising to me. Thank you for your time, and I sincerely hope that my suggestions will be taken into consideration.
Great Streaming / Content; Horrible UI and customization
by <Bayani> on 2019/05/26 22:43
If there’s an event to watch or immediate sports news, the ESPN app is the place to watch and stay up to date. If you don’t want to know everything about the most popular sports and the sports that espn is most actively advertising, this is not the app for you. Especially if you’re paying for ESPN plus - not worth it. They do a great job from a business perspective of holding content captive but, once you’re forced to get a membership in order to watch a UFC PPV, and you think “oh cool, I’ll get some awesome content” - think again. With the lack of customization, it’s utterly disappointing. You get a lot of content but, if you’re a fight fan, the amount of content available is abysmal. Beyond that, it’s a nightmare to search for the content you want or to see specific news and updates unless that happens to coincide with whatever espn is pushing. It’s seemingly impossible to customize your feed and, even tho you pick favorites, there doesn’t seem to be an easily accessible favorites feed. I’m pretty disappointed.
Confusing Battery Killer
by andrewaltogether on 2019/05/18 17:46
The user interface doesn’t make any logical sense. Content is just kind of randomly scattered everywhere. It’s not clear where to go to watch a game and there’s no central schedule. You can see an individual team’s schedule, the most popular games in a specific league or cup (but not always in chronological order), or the big games in a sport (neither in order nor a complete list). And the order seems to change while you’re using the app! But the worst part is the battery draining while streaming. I wanted to watch a soccer game and started with 50% battery, so I plugged my phone in. By half time—with my phone plugged in and charging—the battery level had *dropped* to 18%! So I put it on low power mode, dropped the screen brightness, closed some background apps, turned off cellular and Bluetooth to use Wi-Fi only, and let it recharge during the fifteen minute break. I was able to watch the end of the match, but the battery had *continued to drain* and was at literally 3% when the final whistle blew. How is that even possible?
ESPN+ Is a Mess
by Kenny Griffin on 2018/05/01 00:01
If you are using this app to get scores and updates, it’s good. However, I use it for ESPN+ and watch ESPN FC on a daily basis. I must say, the organization of both the phone and Apple TV app is awful. Trying to view the latest episode is so hard, especially on Apple TV. First, there is no feature to subscribe to a show. You just have to browse around to find it. Second, once you get to the episode listings they are not listed chronologically from newest to oldest and are not titled the same way each time. Sometimes they have the date in the title, sometimes they don’t. Sometimes the newest episode is at the top, sometimes it’s in the middle, and other times it’s literally all the way at the bottom. Additionally, if you watch the broadcast live and then pause it, the stream goes all the way back in time to the pre-roll stuff and you can’t go back to live or where you left off! The service seems half baked right now and I’m not sure I’m going to continue to subscribe at this point and time. It’s a shame they relegated ESPN FC to this service.
Love the redesign, hate the re-edits for rights
by mox.fulder on 2018/04/30 23:54
The past iteration of this app was a clunky mess. It was difficult to watch shows and check scores of games. Most of these problems were fixed with the new update. Like really, it is a fantastic update. The app is less clunky, the advertisements are less intrusive, and watching shows is much easier. Now here is the problem, I am watching PTI, which is the only show I actually watch on ESPN anymore and I notice that Mike and Tony are commenting on things as if video has just been show of something. However there is no video of said event just still images. The version of the show on mobile has been re-edited with all the highlights removed and replaced by still images. I understand this probably has something to do with ESPN not owning mobile rights to highlights but, come on that's the whole point of ESPN. Watching Tony and Mike comment is entertaining enough but, I want to see the thing they are reacting to. So this reediting makes the app redesign pointless because you are getting worse content. I will not be using this app until this is fixed.
Out of control - runaway notifications
by jfrizzz on 2019/02/24 07:51
I understand ESPN’s desire to draw more people into their content, but the app has simply gone too far. The notifications are reaching the point of unwanted spam. It’s one thing for me to want alerts for NBA News like trades or injuries, but by turning on alerts for league news, ESPN will send you an alert for every big game starting, every halftime take, every LeBron highlight, and every post-game press conference. It’s just too much. I am happy that ESPN is pumping out alerts to keep users informed, but the app should offer an opportunity to control what is being delivered. Divide the types of notifications up: highlights, big game alerts, opinion pieces, press conferences. These are regular items that are distinct from league news like a major free agent signing or a coach firing. This is applicable to every league that ESPN serves notifications for. Users get excellent control over game score alerts (start, quarter, half, final, close game), but absolutely no control over the endless alerts that ESPN lumps into “news”.
Too political, alienating
by Hlkggfbn on 2020/06/09 13:55
ESPN has crossed a line recently for me.
Bad for the eyes
by Jetlag John on 2018/08/09 18:50
This app has all the sports info I want. It’s the place to go to find out what my teams did last night — or even how they’re doing now. I have three big issues with ESPN. 1) Too much in grey. For example, in box scores HR is in legible black, but the slugger’s name and data are in weak grey. My eyes are not that great and eye tests are a challenge, but ESPN doesn’t have to be so difficult to read. If two-tone is necessary display headings like HR in grey and data in black. 2) Navigation is slow and difficult. In progress game scores open to the last score displayed & it takes forever to update. So I try to speed things along by touching scores or sports or home, which of course doesn’t help but slows down everything. 3) the Yankees and the Mets are my favorites so their games are listed first. I’m also interested in the Red Sox but I’ll never call them a favorite, so their scores are hidden offscreen way down below. Give me a way to see all AL East and all NL East games in groupings. Summary: lots on info, hard on the eyes, poor navigation.
The worst
by sdb1989 on 2018/01/20 03:10
This used to be my go to for sports updates new pretty much anything sports! Now they just cover trash! The app runs horribly slow it’s like they don’t put out new stories or half the time they aren’t even covering sports. It’s amazing not only is their App bad the content they put on it is horrible who is running this thing! They clearly fired all the wrong people when they let all those people go at espn! They have some of the absolute worst sports articles or coverage of what went on in games or event that occurred. Plus now all they want to do is follow Lavar ball and his 2 kids they aren’t even in America playing in some nothing league overseas they get more coverage then the oldest brother who actually plays for the lakers it’s pathetic! What are you doing over there at espn your app is terrible and your sports reporting is even worse it’s quite the shame espn used to be the most reliable source for any sports info there was no reason to look anywhere or watch anything else now I’m looking for any app remotely decent to delete the espn app I’m done with espn and their garbage app!
Hardly works. Doesn’t work correctly when it does
by Dude 69 420 on 2019/04/19 22:05
I go to open notifications of video clips that sound interesting and it NEVER brings me there. It’ll bring me to some three week old article and I just get frustrated trying to navigate this app trying to find the video it told me about. Watching games is hit or miss. 50% chance you’ll get through more than 10 minutes without the app crashing, playing nonstop ads, or the video cutting out. Not my internet. All other sports streaming apps work fine. Fix it. Plus, as much as I love getting to the second news I’m most cases, IT WILL TELL ME THE FINAL SCORE OF A GAME IM WATCHING ON LIVE TV TWO MINUTES BEFORE ITS OVER. LIVE TV. LIVE. I’ve had countless heart-throbbing experiences ruined by prematurely learning the outcome of the game before the broadcast is even finished. A bit of begging and choosing to say that the scores updates are TOO fast but it’s something that other people have had to have noticed. However, if you are ONLY going to use it to check scores/get updates it’ll be fine.
Competition Is What’s Needed
by The Zohn on 2018/02/27 01:48
ESPN is the undisputed, unequivocal king of sports broadcasting in all shapes, manners and forms. It can seemingly do no wrong. And that’s the privilege it has earned as it has grown from its modest days as an experimental niche network struggling mightily to find relevant sports programming to broadcast around the clock to the mighty empire that it is today — a mighty empire that determines the very culture of sport. All this is to say that the reign of ESPN has been so dominant for so long that other networks have seemingly conceded the market entirely. As such, ESPN can only compete against itself. And with nothing at stake, there is no drive for innovation. And it’s been showing for years, perhaps in no better example than with this app. With a world of resources and capital at its beck and call any time of day or night, there’s just no excuse to have such a poorly designed, minimally functional app representing your brand in the world of interactive sports media. And therein lies the fundamental problem — the ambivalence of having nothing to lose and nothing to gain.
ESPN+ is a waste of money
by VH1994 on 2019/09/08 17:44
I specifically purchased ESPN+ to watch the US Open tennis matches. All news articles and other sources, including ESPN itself, indicated that I would be able to watch all US Open tennis matches with ESPN+. The days of the women’s and men’s finals arrive and I cannot seem to watch the live match without logging in with a cable provider. After searching DEEP within the FAQs I finally see a notice that says the women’s and men’s final matches won’t be aired on ESPN+. Each time, the notice doesn’t come up until the DAY of the match. What a rip off and a scam. If that was the case, it should have been made clear. I would not have wasted money on ESPN+ and would have found another way to view the matches. Also, because the notice did not come up until the DAY of the match each time, and the first time it happened, the match had already started by the time I realized I couldn’t watch it, there was no way for me to find an alternative bar/friend’s place to watch it and instead I missed it and had to check the score by refreshing google instead.
Worst App
by Simmonsr on 2018/05/14 21:59
I wrote a review over a year ago noting that this was the worst app I have ever used. I was hoping since I saw that a tremendous amount of other people were saying the same thing, that ESPN would correct the issues in future updates, but this has largely not been the case. Although there have been several updates, and ESPN has sunk money and effort into watch ESPN and the new ESPN+, their app is STILL the worst one I’ve ever used. It seriously almost never loads on the first try, which is something that numerous other people are also complaining about. Honestly almost every time I use it it doesn’t load and I have to close it out and try again. I am constantly getting ESPN updates that are interesting to me and when I click on the notification to read further, it literally never brings me to the article I clicked on. I just tried it several more times and it didn’t work once. ESPN is a top rate organization with an absolutely horrendous app. I have had it for several years and it was and is the slowest, worst working app that I have.
Annoying ads, video at top
by DP on 2017/12/02 16:55
My primary usage of this app is for checking scores, getting a quick glance at schedules and stats, and occasional browsing of sports news articles. It is OK. The older version of this app was better. The “new” version has so many ads, including the annoying ones that magically encompass the entire screen when you’re about to tap on scores or an article and therefore force you to mistakenly link to some ad site, that it makes scrolling cumbersome. Also, who wants to see some random video at the top of the screen when logging in that has no context that you mistakenly tap because it is constantly at the top of the page (e.g., scores of the game the highlight is from, or a 30 second clip of an interview that has no additional context)? I don’t!!! It seems like the app intentionally leads you to mistakenly tap ad-related material.
A joke of an app
by DilRyeMaster on 2018/04/30 23:31
Wow, I subscribe to multiple things that should allow me to access this app but no, it’s garbage. It plain doesn’t work. Oh what’s that? You’d like to start charging people? You’ve gotta be kidding me. The amount of hubris is off the charts over there. How about you pay $5 a month for something that should be included with your cable package... also, it doesn’t even work. How about no? What was the plan here? I’d love to sit in on a meeting where the idea was “what if we charge people to watch what they’re already paying for!?” Could you be any greedier or more out of touch? Prove me wrong ESPN I dare you, or just complain to big daddy Disney that someone was mean and they’ll send someone to beat me up. I also can’t purchase 30 for 30 anywhere else. I’m willing to throw money at you but no. YOU’RE SHOOTING YOURSELF IN THE FOOT. I WILL FIND ANOTHER MEANS. If you were an ISP would you only be able to long on by telegraph? Remember in 2010 everybody had the “genius idea” to try and create their own social network? That’s what you’re doing right now but you’re too dumb to realize it.
ESPN+ Is Subpar
by jloux9181 on 2018/04/30 07:10
I really enjoy the ESPN app. I always like how I can get scores and news from my favorite teams. I wish coverage for Brazil’s Series A league would get more coverage. As far as ESPN+ I really love the idea of it. I like how I can watch MLR and USL soccer and even the replays of a lot of sports. My biggest issue is the navigation. It’s absolutely horrible. It’s similar to taking a handful of rocks and dropping them into a bucket and wherever they land is where they’re at. That’s how I feel with the navigation. It’s very difficult to find certain games when they’re live. It took about 10 minutes to find the Philadelphia Union match this weekend after the game already started. I also noticed a few days where there wasn’t any live games at all on ESPN+. Like I said, I really love the idea of it and I do hope it will improve but right now I can’t justify paying for a subscription for this. Do not raise the subscription price of $4.99/month. That is a good price I think. I hope this is an issue that will be improved.
Smart tv app is not functional
by mma is only reason I subscribe on 2019/07/28 04:13
Well to start I was excited that ufc was going to espn! I’ve primarily used the espn app on my phone and it always have me little to no problems. However, the app for my Samsung smart tv is just pure trash. Why? Well... for starters every time.. and I mean every single time I try to watch a fight, within about 10 mins on average the sound will cut out, then 30 seconds after that I get an error message saying “video playback error: contact customer care if problem persists.” Well I did just that and had to talk to a representative that didn’t know the first thing he was talking about. Offered no help or solutions and when I said I would have to cancel my subscription because it is unwatchable, he told me “well thanks again sir, have a great day” that will lose you customers ESPN. Please just patch the app for this issue, it could be a really simple fix and save you from losing business from an mma fan like myself! Ps. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app, set my tv back to factory settings, tried again, never changes
From flawless to frustrating
by Foursta on 2018/06/08 05:26
Used ESPN 3 to watch rugby and found it worked perfectly. The new ESPN + app required to watch rugby is buggy and frustrating to use. There is no easy way to see a list of sports when searching like ESPN 3 using my iPhone and iPad, games that have already occurred show as upcoming (see reds v Waratahs which starts at 3:30am for the last week), search results for games don’t include all available games / replays for a team and clicking on the calendar of events for replays started the game at the end, giving away the result (again reds v warratahs). Not the experience I expected when moving from free to $50 a year. I’m not baulking at the price it’s that I expected the paid app to be an improvement not a backward step. Hoping that improvements to the navigation and search will come in future updates. The app overall seems too chaotic, trying to cram every possible feature into a single app and unfortunately that doesn’t deliver a great experience (in my opinion).
Expected better from ESPN
by dustedzephyr on 2020/01/13 00:16
My primary purpose for the app was scores and sports news. There are several tabs along the bottom of the app. You can select the starting tab in preferences so every time you open the app it will open to a certain tab like Scores. However this feature does not work. Every other time I open the app it goes back to the home tab and freezes momentarily. Again the primary purpose of an app like this is quick access to scores. You can select favorite teams, but it will just confuse you. I have a college football team as my 3rd favorite and the score to their last game is still first on the widget after 3 weeks. News is perhaps the most disappointing. Notifications do not deliver news just click bait and nonsense. Announcing super bowl halftime performers is in no way breaking NFL news. If there is a notification about something I care about it is always at least 10-15 min after any other app. Go with one of the smaller guys’ apps for scores and news, this one is a mismanaged train wreck.
Why yall need a update and let people watch live games when they already have a tv provider
by Faygirlroblox123 on 2019/11/19 00:55
This app needs to be updated because you do not let us watch the games live when the games are actually on espn not really witch is dumb. You should let us watch nfl, college, mlb, and nba hilghts so we can see whats actually going on in the game. You should also give us notifcations when we do not chose whatever team we did not pick but as long it is in the league we pick. And also I have on promblem myslef. This should really be on the update list but. My parents got specturm so we can watch thing we like to see. There is a promblem when i try to watch the game it says I can not watch it. I was like are you serious. I really wanted to see the nba game but it just had to say I had to watch it with specturm. So begged my parents to put espn to there specturm account but I no they won't do it anways. Thanks espn and I am being sarcastic. If anyone has those promblems please say something.
Slow, Unreliable, Clunky
by Dannymcboy1 on 2018/03/23 22:11
This app is a great resource for its overall data and information that it contains. However, there are so many things wrong with it. It is slow and laggy. It takes like ten seconds to load the app, then another five seconds because there’s an unwanted video highlight on the home page. Also, whenever there is a “must see” notification or any kind of notification that plays a video when you open the app, it doesn’t show the video, it shows the home page highlight, and there is no way to find the other video. This app is just so slow and laggy. ESPN parades the app like it’s godsent, but it’s actually horrible, laggy, slow, and clunky. I’d recommend an app I recently started using called Action Sports. It has seamless functionality between pages and instant updating. It’s very user friendly and provides TONS of information, even for bettors. Overall 2/5, just for the WATCH ESPN function and information it contains.
Absolutely Terrible
by Bwalk2056 on 2018/05/05 11:08
This app has easily the worst User Interface of any app I’ve ever seen. It’s clunky, cluttered, and not easy for the user to find what they are looking for. I would be okay with a poor UI if the app wasn’t also lagging. There is no way to hide the crap you don’t care about, so you have to scroll through the useless crap to get to what you want. I have been watching Rugby on the WatchESPN app for years for free and never had any issues. The app was simple, straight forward, and reliable. Now that Rugby has switched to this app, I’ve had nothing but issues (and I have to pay for a product that is vastly inferior to the free product I enjoyed). For the first week, Super Rugby matches wouldn’t show up when you searched for “Rugby”. They do now, but good luck trying to watch a full game without getting an error. This morning, I go to watch the Rebels v Crusaders replay and the broadcast starts when the game is 3/4 over. Now I can’t even find the rest of the games I should be seeing. ESPN+ is a terrible product as it is right now.

by optimus17prime on 2018/01/31 23:45
I don’t write a lot of reviews. I’m not sure that I’ve written any others. I’m writing this to send feedback to the developer, and to warn other potential users. They need to know that this app is SLOW. It routinely takes 6-10 SECONDS after launching this app before the screen becomes responsive again. Who measures responsiveness in seconds in 2018? I have no idea what this app is doing in that amount of time. 8 years ago, the ESPN scorecenter app was a requirement. Now.... it’s complete garbage. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but Yahoo sports app is now my go-to. Yahoo. Yahoo hasn’t been relevant since 2005! You get 2 stars instead of one because a) it’s better than your actual web page (which leads the league in user hostility *cough* auto play videos *cough*) and b) your Apple Watch app is somehow the best available for me. It’s still crap, and takes waaaay too long to update scores, but none of your competitors have managed to do any better. I’ve tried them all.
Tv Provider Glitch
by thecropcircle on 2020/02/02 20:21
This is my second time making a comment. Since I have been charged a months service,I attempted again to use what I paid for.. to no avail. First thing I noticed was it hit connecting to my Bluetooth properly for some reason. After shrugging this off I almost had hope because I was able to see the game I wanted to watch for about 6 minutes, almost throughout the 2nd qtr to halftime but to my disappointment the app then rejected my connection and started to prompt me to enter a provider sign in again. I paid for this thru the App Store and I am signed in with my proper ID/info. I’ve uninstalled, re-installed, signed in and out and tried far enough. $5 was stolen from me and as far as the game I tried to watch...it blacked out 20 seconds before halftime and I got the notification from the team app right afterwards with the score confirming that I missed my teams buzzer beating 3 pointer. Fabulous. This takes away from my quality of life. I’ll never get that time back. Thanks ESPN app. Keep up the bad work 👎🏾

I have an issue with espn! The end! No but wait, there’s more! My current tv provider doesn’t carry lovely little espn you see.. I happen to wanna watch some college hoops.. but when I look up espn and their little funny gimmick on how I can spend $5 a month to watch espn channels.. I guess that only applies to those that already have the espn channels (with their tv provider) and wanna watch more behind the sense or on demand things from espn! Guess what I’m saying is........ I could already have the channel if only my tv provider did so.. but I’m jus gonna pay to watch it again to see channels I already would have if I only had them... so theoretically I’m either payin to watch the SAME live channels twice with on demand to which I dnt care about like not even a little OR I’m payin to watch NO live channels with on demand to which I dnt care about at all like literally zero! So totally I’m canceling my subscription, like 5min ago! But hey, I jus wanna say thanks! Do please have a wonder time reading this comment too (espn!)
I’m done with this app
by Itsmemario7 on 2018/02/28 21:41
This app keeps getting worse and worse. I’ve had it for years and has always been my go to for scores, but lately it has been painfully slow, crashes constantly and has to restart, takes forever to load each page, etc etc. it takes 30 seconds just to open the app to the main page, then another 20 seconds to be able to start scrolling...it used to only take 2 seconds. It seems like they focus too much on video clips, every page has to load 4+ videos before you can see the score of the game you’re looking for. 15 second clips require you to watch 30 seconds of adds beforehand. And I’ve had it with twitter feeds...I don’t care what Lavar Ball and Lebron James tweeted, if i did, I would follow them on twitter. Maybe they’re trying to do too much and just need to get back to a simple setup. I’m only giving this app 2 stars because it used to be good, recently it should only be one or none.
Streaming is horrible
by matt245457 on 2019/08/10 05:16
As far as espn+ and streaming on this app, it’s so horrible you’d think this is a streaming service owned by a startup. If you quit watching a show in the middle, it literally restarts from the beginning even if you accidentally went back 2 seconds earlier. I’m not sure what they are doing g with the search function. I tried to find a show that I had been watching and typed it in word for word and it didn’t show up..... Which brings me to another issue if they pretty much just show you recommended content for you yet I haven’t been able to determine if there is an area where I can just simply browse EVERYTHING. I guess you get what you pay for at $5 a month but I don’t even think it is worth that. I’m basically just continuing to pay for until the first couple weeks of college football to see what the content is, and if it’s no better than espn3 I’m not paying for this Mickey Mouse app (shout out to their owners who can’t seem to fund a 21st century streaming service).
Cord Cutter Unfriendly - SPOILERS - DO NOT BUY FOR F1
by HasteeDownload on 2019/07/26 20:40
Never really been into ESPN but picked up ESPN+ to watch F1 this year (thanks Netflix!). I’m a cordcutter (thanks Netflix!) and ESPN+ does not work well for F1 viewing. Availability of the practices and racing varies at odd times in the day and gives you no indication on when it will be available to me next. You MUST pull from the On Demand section for viewing but depending on these “windows” of available viewing I’m asked to select my cable tv provider - which is something I do not have. I’ve entered support tickets for this and I’m directed to text a number that isn’t available other than undisclosed hours and whose correspondence feels unprofessional and like a random IT guy answering texts. I don’t need ESPN and think my next step is to go with the cheaper option of F1 streaming direct from F1 which feels more win win. As an additional aside, it is also very frustrating to try and view the races without spoilers - as you navigate to try and find the race you must scroll PAST the “related stream” which always highlights the winner and any major events like a crash. Total buzz kill and a design flaw that would apply to any sports app period - I literally over a part of my vision as I’m navigating this app to avoid it and with the frequently I need to fuss with it to get it to play, the race is almost always spoiled before I get a chance to even start it up.
Still a terrible app
by zachartrand on 2018/12/24 13:23
I’ve reviewed the espn app about 5 times now. Every other time has been one star. Finally almost willing to give them 2, but after writing the review I’ve decided they aren't worth it. Still terrible. Before I get into it, I wonder how they have 4.5 out of 5 stars. All the reviews I have seen have been 1-2 stars with the occasional 4-5 star review that sounds more like a participation trophy. Bunch of people trying not to hurt any feelings. Give me a break. Even their playoff standings make no sense. In leagues as basic and as the nfl and nhl the standings are trash. They are simply the conference standings with absolutely nothing else. They tell me nothing about the current wild card standings or who is in “the hunt”. Apparently the writers know nothing about sports? I much prefer the nhl app and the nfl app, but it would be nice for espn to finally figure out how to do their job so I can have all my sports stuff in one place, but I’m about to accept the fact that this will never happen. I used to hate the videos that would always crash. Now they don't crash, but I wish I could easily see my favorite teams scores like I used to. Now I have to scroll through 100 news headlines that I do not care about before I can see them. I guess we all want what we cant have. I will never have a half way decent espn app. Quit trying to make a fancy app and make an app that actually works. Forever and always, One star
Blackouts a big problem
by NosferatuBH on 2019/10/20 02:39
I’ve used this app plenty of times- generally without issue. Today, however, (after paying my subscription fee weeks in advance) I went to turn on a playoff game right at kickoff. I’m asked what TV/Internet Service Provider I have- I click on Xfinity. The app thinks about it for a second and tells me that I can’t watch the game because it’s not included in my cable package. In my head I’m thinking, “well obviously I don’t have those channels on my cable package- that’s the whole point of the subscription service.” But outwardly I’m trying to keep myself from chucking my phone at the tv. I’m taken aback. I assumed that the motto: “Watch More Sports. Anytime. Anywhere.” would entitle me to watch an important playoff game in the comfort of my own home- clearly an error in judgment on my part... I compose myself and try the similar app on my PS4- same issue. So, in a moment of great personal growth, I refrained from smashing any innocent electronic devices and quietly cancelled my subscription to ESPN+. I then took the time out of my day that I had intended to go towards watching my team play to write this review. Anyway, the app sort of defeats itself by not allowing users to view content on channels not currently included in their cable package. Xfinity already offers a streaming service for mobile devices but, again, only for channels on the users current subscription.
Login problems, bad support experience
by Uriah001 on 2019/09/22 02:36
Have been having issues playing ESPN+ content. Contacted live support(live chat). Tried everything Shanu suggested but could not watch content on AppleTV. Then tried on Mac. Tried different browsers. No good. At one point the agent asked for the login credentials. I told Shanu I would not do that and that no other service has ever asked for my password. I refused to give my login credentials. Finally “technical team has done a complete refresh on your account” is what he said. I tried to login on my phone and it worked. Got a one time password and logged in on phone. I was finally able to watch content. I the told Shanu I was going to try on TV. This takes a few minutes. I tried on tv with AppleTV and no good again. I went back on the computer to tell Shanu that I was still having issues on AppleTV, but by the time that I got back to the computer in the office, he had already ended the session. So obviously, I could not get further help. Before Shanu ended the season, he asked “Is there anything else that I can assist you with?” I was away from my computer trying to open the app on the AppleTV in the living room, so I could not answer. Very frustrating. Not working on computer either. Was going to try on phone again, but I have a feeling it isn’t going to work again. Before the app fully opened, I got a request to rate the ESPN app. I’m giving it a 1 for the above reasons.
Worked great until update
by BlkVmon on 2019/04/28 19:59
Like title says worked great until I updated this morning. Yesterday I could open the app, navigate to whatever game is currently on or what the scores were. Today I update and I’m not kidding it literally loaded for 15 minutes on the first page all white with just the icons at the bottom. After that LONG loading time I could leave the app and return just fine but it drained my battery JUST running the app this morning from 100% battery to 20% in a matter of less than 5 hours... running in the background. I kill the app from running and my battery finally lasted until I just started to charge it. I go to open the app again and now it has been trying to load since I started typing this and still hadn’t loaded. A shame that you can’t use the app unless it’s plugged in the wall from burning my battery stupidly quick just running in the background with my phone locked most of the morning.
One star too many.
by Once purchased $60 worth on 2020/01/01 23:46
ALERT: ANOTHER SHAM. I paid for a bundle package including ESPN+. However when trying to view certain games I needed to watch them via an ESPN provider. Unfortunately, I bought the bundle for the sake of “cutting the cable cord” YET to watch the game I am forced to pay for cable!?! If there is such a difference between the ESPN brand from the ESPN+ brand, then I ask...why not give it a different name. All ESPN+ did, was refer me back to where u started from - back to cable. Thanks for the “ESPN-“ experience. You can keep my penny you charge for keeping u in the bundle. Not worth the effort to cancel until the original subscription expires. I will delete this nonsense application nonetheless and share about the sham!! I would rather pay a few dollars more in the bundle to get a REAL subscription with ALL the ESPN content. THEN at least it would be worth it. As it stands it’s not worth the penny but the hassle is worth even less. 👏🏽. U made .12 cents from me and lost my respect for ur brand.
Garbage, money-grab, and leaving it behind
by Disgruntled Xavier on 2019/11/11 06:29
Videos NEVER work. I hate watching an ad just to have a blank black screen during when the highlight is supposed to be. Sure, the video playback works for the 15 second ad for EVERY highlight (extremely obnoxious and tacky) but then times out once the highlight begins. It’s glitchy, freezes, and never loads notifications it pushes out. If you click on a notification to load a story it originally loads a completely random story and it’s there for about 20 seconds before it loads the story from the notification. The “articles” are typically less than three paragraphs and completely uninformative and poorly written. It’s also slow and bogged down whenever I use it, even with perfect LTE or WiFi, no matter when or where I’m at. The layout hasn’t changed one bit in years and is the exact opposite of intuitive, and you have to go through several steps just to get the info you’re looking for. To boot, for the past two weeks my selected favorites haven’t been loading about every other time I use it and it’s like using the app for the first time, no preferences or favorite teams/sports popping up. I’m done with frustration and disappointment in hoping that ESPN will ever care about its user base and fix the problems it so blatantly ignores. I’m sick of waiting for that day to come and am finally deleting the app after constant use for 6+ years.
ESPN PLUS (UFC 235)
by Mendozachris on 2019/03/04 01:04
Today is 03March2019, I’m writing this review on the ESPN + subscription aspect of this app. If you use this for its free aspects then it’s a 5 star app. ESPN has been pushing the ESPN + paid subscription service for quite some time. I went ahead and tried the free 7 day trial to stream the Preliminary fights for UFC 235. I spent over an hour trying to figure out why, after subscribing to the service, I could not stream the fights. First, they did not explicitly explain that they would NOT be streaming the fight UNLESS you have a TV provider. Secondly, this means that you would have to pay double a month, one for the cable provider and another for their internet streaming. I only figured this out after calling the 1-800 number and listening to the automated message. This is just a garbled mess. Pay here and pay here. Money money money. I wish they were transparent with their pricing and stipulations. It’s important to understand that ESPN will not let you stream certain events due to contracts they have with the cable providers and you won’t find out unless you pay both the cable provider to have ESPN AND pay ESPN+. Save your money and DON’T subscribe to the ESPN plus unless you’re willing to dish out around $20 a month. The ESPN channel subscription for your cable is already the highest subscription you’ll pay and now they want an extra 4.99 a month to let you stream the events online.
Do not pay for ESPN+
by ReviewerG452 on 2019/11/14 16:35
This service is garbage when compared to other streaming apps. ESPN+ is just another advertising platform that forces you to watch 30 long second commercials for ever 30 second clip you watch. The advertisements are not even distributed through an algorithm that would show users the most relevant advertising content. Instead it’s basic Big Advertising at its finest. I have the service only because I bought the Disney+ bundle. I will probably return to the app only to watch exclusive UFC and Boxing matches, unless I have to watch commercials. In which case I will just stream on Kodi. I am glad I did not jump on this app only because they carry UFC and Top Rank boxing. Paying for streaming means I should not be subjected to lengthy irrelevant advertising. “ESPN+.” The plus should stand for “plus more commercials.” As I stated before, do not use this streaming service unless you have 50/50 time. That means for ever second of content you get a second of advertising.
Worse decision UFC ever made
by Espn(-) on 2019/10/19 09:30
Every time without fail, this app has failed me. It’s complete asinine and ignorance to the max. Thanks Disney I have had nothing but the absolute worse: service, customer service, connection issues, streaming issues, and anything and everything that could go wrong has gone wrong with this dysfunctional app. I only watch UFC and every time I try to watch a event, regardless if I purchased the event, it doesn’t work properly. When I call Customer Service to get help from a customer service rep, the person I speak to is not even able to look up my account information or guide me through other service options. I have recorded multiple conversations with multiple different reps. Each conversation is the same, the rep does not have the capability to look up my account information to properly help my situation. The last 2 times I’ve resulted to “Customer Care” the individual didn’t even ask for my name. It’s almost like they pay people to just answer calls to (Sweet talk) and (consul) your emotions. Maybe they will even walk you through a couple trouble shooting tips like: “have you tried logging out and back in” or “reinstalling the app.” Notifications get turned on so I get results of events I haven’t seen...etc...etc...etc... I’ve tried multiple other devices, others peoples phones/devices and their services, you name it. This app without fail...FAILS!!!!

So much background activity that it can eat up 31% of my battery usage while being active a total of two minutes. I have less than zero interest in MMA but there is no way to tell the app not to waste screen space or battery charge on it.

EsucksPN
by hammondwprld on 2020/06/29 18:45
Whatever you do, don’t purchase the service.

Come on ESPN.....you can do this.

by Proathlete61 on 2020/06/27 15:58
Regardless of what sports you like, you’ll get football and basketball pushed at you.

Please fix this or I’ll have to delete the app to get my battery performance back.

by Evangelist 11 on 2020/06/23 03:30

by theonebrad on 2020/06/22 04:27
All they do is shove left wing political propaganda in my face. They went after Gundy for wearing an OAN shirt. 😂 Pathetic. And anyone, especially straight white males, who even slightly disagree, are bigots who support “the evil Orange man” Might as well just change their name to ESPCNN!

by Rewan2 on 2020/06/22 03:15
Very buggy app.
Battery drain
by AirBallObama on 2020/06/21 05:10

by Freebattery on 2020/06/19 02:21

Chromecast and playback
by Disney fix this please on 2020/06/18 22:53
Anything I play it’s stuck loading before it begins if it ever begins. I have 140 megas at home and this is the only app that gives me playback problems. Chromecast works when you close and open the app around four times and it doesn’t have controls when it finally plays. You’ll need to use the google home app to control espn+ videos. I hate that UFC and Toprank events are in this app that barely works.

BOYCOTT!
by SendingOutAnSOS on 2020/06/16 20:09
ESPN has decided to go full blown as a political outlet.

I changed internet providers during the Last Dance. Right before episodes 7 & 8. Been trying to sign in under my new provider everyday since then.
If app content is any indication, ESPN is staking its future on the fickle popularity of UFC and attempting to hedge that bet by forcing UFC content down the throats of app users.

by Nimzter on 2020/06/13 10:43

Now forced advertisements
by mutant27 on 2020/06/13 01:37
You can’t even X out of an advertisement now; even if I decide to not watch the video. ESPN is getting lower by the day....not to mention playing the exact same advertisement over and over and over and over.....someone is going to get smart and create a competing sports channel. Only a matter of time.
