App not working
by jlkav82 on 2019/05/19 22:59
#appstore App consistently crashes or does not open. Issue has persisted for about two weeks.
Awesome, needs something else.
by Radley Sears on 2019/05/19 22:19
ESPN is the best. I get to watch games anywhere anytime. Figuring out how to get the game to play live or search up games is a little difficult, but you get used to it. The part that it really needs is swimming. Swimming is even an olympic sport! Ping-Pong is on ESPN, and not swimming. Really? Ping-Pong is not even close to an olympic sport. People enjoy swimming too, in 2018, 19.8 million people watched the olympics. Swimming is one of the top-watched olympic sport. If ESPN put swimming into their company, they would have a lot more people coming in to check out ESPN. They would get swimmers and swim supporters from every corner of the world.
Shakedown
by jps6659 on 2019/05/19 20:41
I’ve been an avid ESPN ap reader since my first iPhone. While I’m ok with free enterprise, I’m trouble that certain articles are now blocked. So you want $4.95 a month for premium now? Not for me. If it continues I’ll get my football news elsewhere.
Keeps crashing
by Mdes on 2019/05/19 20:20
Can't get scores when the app instantly crashes
Awful app and interface
by 648;$29292 on 2019/05/19 20:12
Impossible to find the shows and live sports that were easily accessible on the WatchESPN app. Interface is confusing and just full of espn+ content that I can’t access and short clips of the shows I used to be able to watch in entirety. Waste of time
Pay for articles!!

FIRST REVIEW IN MY LIFE
by ncg8 on 2019/05/19 16:53
THIS APP AND GOOGLE CHROMECAST ARE ALLERGIC TO EACH OTHER. TRYING TO CAST IS USELESS. FIX THIS.
No streaming
by comchieg on 2019/05/19 16:06
Decent enough app but 1 huge flaw. Can not stream from iPad to tv using hdmi connection. We cut the chord years ago and his how we watch tv as a family. UFC pvp, Netflix. Amazon all allow for this type of streaming but not ESPN. When this gets changed this may be a viable option.
Highlight video clip streaming is horrible.
by GeorgeSamsonite on 2019/05/19 15:08
Figure out how to get the videos to stream in HD. This is. Ridiculous. The ads are all perfect and I have to watch a 2 minute replay video and you can't even see who is who bc the quality is so bad.
Useless
by BoilerUp Rob on 2019/05/19 14:30
No longer works. World wide leader?
This app stinks
by NayNayR on 2019/05/19 14:15
This app keeps getting worse and worse. The videos don’t play the way it’s formatted is complicated. It use to give me no problems but now I cringe when I open this app. I’m going to get my sports information from another app if I can’t use this one adequately. It’s a total waste of my time
Not a good app
by Jamesww23 on 2019/05/19 05:09
Gets stuck and is very glitchy
Does this app even work any more?
by SkippytheCowboy on 2019/05/19 04:33
This app’s front page is so weighed down with videos that the app has a hard time loading, even when connected to wi-fi. If it wasn’t for the college sports coverage, I would never use this app. Today was very frustrating because I wanted to track NCAA baseball, softball, lacrosse — nada on all three accounts. I’ve spent the day staring at a white screen that can’t even load the stupid videos most of the day
Crap App, ESPN= crooks
by Stephen A. Bigot on 2019/05/19 03:33
Pay for this app and they block HDMI so you cant watch on larger screen on older TV. Think i’ll go fishing...

Horrible
by divernavy444 on 2019/05/19 03:13
This app is garbage. It freezes and will not let you go forward. I’m about to start looking for another sports provider if this isn’t fixed.
Hate it
by Steelersman43 on 2019/05/19 03:03
This new app is slower than before. It takes forever to load and it takes forever to refresh. I hate it. I like the older version better.
Very slow during major events
by Newly informed voter on 2019/05/19 02:57
Ever since the espn+ app started streaming UFC..... Slow, buffering, end up 4 minutes behind because of it... Maybe my WiFi? Nope. My phone. Nope. How many people with different providers for phone data or WiFi all have the same issues. The common in all this is the ESPN + app
Softball
by hi_um_hey on 2019/05/19 02:52
I play and watch softball constantly so when the the road to the NCAA championship started I wanted to follow the teams. However I found that I couldn’t get updates on the sport nor could I find the teams I wanted to follow. I also can click on any other game from any other sport and it will give me stats on the game, not with softball. I know not everyone pays attention to softball but I really wish that would give me more than just scores, otherwise I love the app.
Bad app, bad choice by the ufc to force fans of the sport to have to use it
by jjasonfl on 2019/05/19 02:45
Horrible app. Horrible decision by the ufc to force its fans to use it , I’m done, locked up midway through the lee dos anjos fight card so instead of watching fights I am reinstalling this app over and over with no luck I’m done . DONT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS HORRIBLE APP.
ESPN”+” has ruined this app
by SavageNDN on 2019/05/19 02:33
I hate that every time I start to read an interesting article in my ESPN app about 2 paragraphs in it stops me from being able to read the rest and asks me if I want to subscribe to ESPN+ for $4.99 a month. I’m probably going to delete this app because it’s only good for checking game scores. I can just ask Siri to do that.
There was an error that prevented this video from playing
by aisidndi on 2019/05/19 02:21
I’ve been getting this error almost every single time I try and watch the new ufc fight cards. Even after I update the app it still happens. Probably the most frustrating thing
Frustrating
by backlash81 on 2019/05/19 02:13
I’m using the app on an iPhone SE and the app was working fine up until a month ago. Apparently the app won’t load now unless I disable and then re-enable both the wifi and cellular services on my phone.....otherwise the app will freeze at startup. Even then, the app freezes if I decide to close out and then open it again later. Also gave this a single star rating due to the problems associated with the first UFC PPV. The app was terrible and wouldn’t let u purchase on the app by saying not available on this device despite giving options for purchase. Not what I expected from a major entertainment company...... Update: Now this app apparently disables the WiFi on my phone when playing any video on Espn+ and uses my cellular data anytime I start the app and then freezes when I try to exit the app.
Would not load
by William Mentz on 2019/05/19 02:01

Terrible
by Jscott76067 on 2019/05/19 01:12
This app and espns attention to its customers are terrible. The only reason I paid for + was for the UFC. I wish they never would have left fox espn is terrible if you wanna watch sports live don’t use this app cause you aren’t gonna be able to enjoy anything with it just buffer all day even when your on WiFi with a perfect connection. Don’t pay for espn+ unless you wanna be ripped of with terrible quality.
2nd week in a row I can’t watch MLS
by Thuston1970$ on 2019/05/19 01:09
I pay the monthly fee for ESPN+ on Apple TV and for the 2nd week in a row it is telling me it can’t access my subscription. So, what is the point? Fix it or refund me.
Thanks!

ESPN+ functionality is hot garbage
by DetroiterToday on 2019/05/19 01:06
Want to watch a UFC fight night exclusively on ESPN+? Nope, can’t do that. The app opens and then doesn’t respond to any touch inputs. Force quitting the app doesn’t do anything. It appears to work again if I restart my iPhone, but you get ONE SHOT. If you exit the app at any time, it’s over. Please hire some developers from google, and make it work like the YouTube app. You’re the worldwide leader in sports. In 2019, having an app this bad is unacceptable.

by Leakypools on 2019/05/18 22:36

by thefatpika on 2019/05/18 20:40

Confusing Battery Killer
by andrewaltogether on 2019/05/18 17:46
The user interface doesn’t make any logical sense. Content is just kind of randomly scattered everywhere. It’s not clear where to go to watch a game and there’s no central schedule. You can see an individual team’s schedule, the most popular games in a specific league or cup (but not always in chronological order), or the big games in a sport (neither in order nor a complete list). And the order seems to change while you’re using the app! But the worst part is the battery draining while streaming. I wanted to watch a soccer game and started with 50% battery, so I plugged my phone in. By half time—with my phone plugged in and charging—the battery level had *dropped* to 18%! So I put it on low power mode, dropped the screen brightness, closed some background apps, turned off cellular and Bluetooth to use Wi-Fi only, and let it recharge during the fifteen minute break. I was able to watch the end of the match, but the battery had *continued to drain* and was at literally 3% when the final whistle blew. How is that even possible?
It’s ok
by jbrannan52 on 2019/05/18 11:57
Biggest issue I’m having is managing my subscription. App says to visit website to manage subscription. Website says to visit App Store. It’s a vicious cycle and I can’t get anywhere. Needs fixed.

Trash App. Start over.
by Alsyourpal112084 on 2019/05/18 04:25

After more than a handful of years using the app on several different iPhones now the app suddenly hangs and is not usable for the last month and that is with NO changes to my phone. Have done all the reboots/install/uninstall gimmicks but nothing works and espn help has been unsatisfactory to say the least

Settings were always being changed
by dissatisfied sports fan on 2019/05/17 17:49
Unless you are a huge sports fan and want to know every breaking news story about every sport, you don’t need this app. I had it set up where I got notifications when my baseball and football teams started and the end score. I started getting the “breaking news” notifications on my phone. So I thought “oh I must not have changed my settings”. Went back in and changed them. A couple of weeks later I started receiving “breaking news” again. I changed it two more times before it ticked me off enough to just delete the app. I expect my settings to stay the way I want them.. that’s why there are settings in the first place.
Slow, data heavy, and critical bugs in production
by shdjfjsnec on 2019/05/17 17:32
In my 10 years of using the app store, I have never felt compelled to write a review until now. This app used GIGABYTES of my cellular data in the background while I was asleep. And I hadn’t been streaming at all — presumably all this background usage was from the trash autoplay videos this app has on almost every page.
DON’T BOTHER

Pay for play?
by TimWers on 2019/05/17 11:11
The new pay to play model is horrible. An extra $5 per month when I am already paying additional for the sports package with Spectrum makes no sense.
Ad to video ratio is crazy
by Dirty rotten on 2019/05/17 05:52
You have to watch a 30 sec commercial just to watch a single highlight sometimes. Not worth it. Just watch game highlights on YouTube
Laggy and Doesn’t work with Chromecast or Apple TV
by 3030 viewer on 2019/05/17 05:05
It’s really hard to watch any of the original programming. You get halfway into a movie or documentary and it freezes on you. It’s also makes you go back from the beginning when you reload something. Definitely needs a lot of work.
Terrible functionality
by sirGrifferd on 2019/05/17 03:58
The apps gives very limited scores. I should have to add specific teams to my favorites just to get scores. Especially in the playoffs. And the scores are always behind by a few minutes

by Parma_ac21 on 2019/05/17 03:33
Don’t download and specially don’t download or pay for the espn watch app. Piece of crap waste of money. Nothing but errors on the app and you will watch maybe one game a month. Worse app!!!
Terrible attempt at trying to do too much
by V. Hanke on 2019/05/17 03:32
ESPN has blown it here. Is this a blog, or a video streaming app? Pick a lane. The video streaming is a joke.
Garbage
by Funhad on 2019/05/17 03:22
absolute garbage
Hide scores?
by Pooker69 on 2019/05/17 01:50
App desperately needs a way to hide scores. If I use it to watch/stream games via espn+ after they have started (or finished) you need to hide the scores that load when the app first starts so I don’t spoil the game I’m trying to watch. Hide scores slider control needed for settings menu. How hard is this? The mls app has had this for several years/versions.
Super slow
by Jereusa1 on 2019/05/17 01:43

by JAK-608 on 2019/05/17 01:29
A big swing and a miss from ESPN once again. They constantly try and fail at the streaming game! Fox Sports, Fox Sports Go, Yahoo, Netflix, Hulu, HBO Go, all the other options that have figured out streaming but ESPN can’t figure it out. I am able to log into a browser with my tv subscription just fine, but this app is absolute garbage it won’t even get to the point of letting me log in.
Cable provider

by SpaghettiSetGo on 2019/05/16 21:37

Does not provide the additional channels it promises
by Why play at all? on 2019/05/16 21:12
The description of this app says that with it you can get all ESPN channels. Wrong. You only get the same channels that your TV provider already gives you. So what is value of this app? To me, it is zero, but zero stars is not an option.
Not Able to Link Account
by Goscjj on 2019/05/16 21:10
I’ve tried on multiple devices to link my account, to no avail. I purchased the annual subscription through the app, but cannot watch any + content online or any other platform without linking the account. Problem is every time I select “restore” to get to the link devices page, the “restore” page disappears. This occurs on my XS Max as well as the iPod touch (6th gen).
ESPN
by Rja5326$ on 2019/05/16 18:48
Get rid of ESPN plus unless your paying for it otherwise don’t need it on this app.
Just don’t click on a story
by MikeJG from DC on 2019/05/16 17:51
The app works great as long as you don’t want to read the story you click on. All to often you click on a news story only for it to come up on a blank screen. You can skip to the next story only to find the same blank screen. Also, if you like Podcast they have buried them. Once easily accessible from the main screen you have a couple more clicks to listen to PTI (or any other podcast).
ESPN app Doesn’t Work - Frozen When Opened
by Puppiesandkittens on 2019/05/16 17:25
I can’t get the app to work. It’s frozen immediately when I access the app. No problem with any other apps. ESPN just started to freeze a few weeks ago. Deleted and reinstalled to no avail...
Turned off notifications
by Adament cause on 2019/05/16 17:20
For some reason the developers feel the need to re-enable breaking news alerts with every update of the app. For that reason, I've had to turn off this app's ability to have notifications at the system level. Devs won't respect my choices, your app loses rights to all notifications. Fix this BS.

by Anna dubs on 2019/05/16 14:32

Stephen A’s personal TV Network
by DxMxB on 2019/05/16 13:24

Too much broke the app
by Runnin' Fool on 2019/05/16 11:15
This used to be a great app. However, over the last two updates when the developer decided to throw the kitchen sink in, it has stopped working. Since there is video, audio and stats fighting to pop up first when the app it trying to open, it freezes!! This app is worthless now
Consistently stops playing
by Mojo1031 on 2019/05/16 10:00
I have had this app on every phone I’ve had for about ten years. And for ten years, the app will consistent stop working multiple times while listening to the radio (which I do from 5-1 daily) so that I have to pause and then play. It only happens while listening live, I never have a problem with a podcast. It’s especially frustrating because lately the app is not even showing on the lock screen, so when it stops I have to open the phone and bring up the app just to hit pause and play once. And now you are going to ask me for five bucks a month to watch Peyton’s show, which is a ridiculous ask for an unreliable app. No matter how many updates you put through, this error never clears.
Starts to open then freezes up.
by A dogg on 2019/05/16 04:44
This app’s been great for years with no problems until I did the recent update (as of May 2019). Now it tries to open w/a loading spinning wheel going.....and going and going. That’s it. Brutal
Poor performance, app struggles
by Swandive01 on 2019/05/16 01:57
Pretty god awful performance from the app, it is incredibly slow and does not work most of the time for me. I have the newest iPhone and have good WiFi and service and every other app on my phone works good, this one is just not good. I have notifications on and you cannot actually click on them and view them because when it goes to open them it won’t ever load. You’d expect better performance from a company this big.
Not working lately
by Notadickreviewer on 2019/05/16 01:47
This app is one of my favorites but has stopped working in the past few weeks. I’ve uninstalled, restarted my phone, reinstalled. The best it does is bring up the front page, but it’s frozen.

I subscribed to ESPN+ for the past three months to watch MLS and NBA games. Sounds great except EVERY game has been blacked out. Even when checking the schedule to make sure it was streaming on ESPN+ it never tells you it’s blacked out until the start of the game which is incredible inconvenient.

Worst big company app
by Flycaster5 on 2019/05/15 23:30
This is the worst app put out by a large, well-known company that I have ever experienced. I have seen apps from mom and pop businesses that are better than this. Slow to load, difficult to navigate, terrible user experience. They need to scrap this thing, fire the app development company they used and start over. Also please don’t make me watch a 30 second ad in order to be able to watch a 45 second clip.

I only want to watch ATP tennis! But, I can’t watch anything on this app since now I have to subscribe to espn 1, 2, 3 or plus. This is ridiculous and obviously espn capitalism - and this year you haven’t carried any tennis!! Stop lying to the consumer and straighten out your act!!!
Needs a lot of work
by Atmos22 on 2019/05/15 16:11
I wish the app would stream more consistently with the Chromecast it seems like the app is always lagging you have to reset the whole app usually two or three times to watch a full 30 for 30 not happy with it
Format doesn’t make sense
by mkm0609 on 2019/05/15 15:59
Why ask me for my favorite teams and leagues if the app will just show me whatever it wants anyway? I don’t watch basketball and I couldn’t care less about NBA headlines, but ESPN still chooses to show me news about the league on the home page. On the home page, I wish I could see the “My News” section first, instead of a video of Stephen A. automatically playing. Like I said, I don’t care about NBA so why is it showing me that? The “Top Headlines” section would be helpful if it wasn’t headlines from NBA or other leagues/sports. I don’t care about those headlines, only the ones from my sport. On the ESPN+ tab, why does it automatically show a cricket game? I didn’t ask for that. I don’t watch cricket. Finally, I wish I could rearrange the sections on the home page. For example, what if I want to see Top Headlines first before My News? I want that option or if I want to see My News first before My Favorites.
Slower than Slow
by jcderhammer on 2018/10/03 03:48
Really wish this app worked in a timely, consistent manner. Unless there’s a perfect connection watching a game on here is almost possible. Upon attempting to play a game the app will crash about the first 5 times and when it finally does come on you just have to cross your fingers that it won’t crash every 5 minutes. I don’t know how but Fox Sports Go and Yahoo sports work so much better, which is a shame because I like ESPN and their layout. I’ll have to watch MNF on the Yahoo app from now on. It’s just not the games though, trying to navigate thru different sports and news stories is an absolute nightmare. Quite often I’ll click a story and something different will pop up, and on top of that when I click to a specific sports the “headlines” will 1 or 2 week old news. Haha no idea what’s going on there. I thought ESPN’s new E+ was intriguing, but there’s absolutely no way I pay a monthly fee for something that I find myself getting so frustrated on that I just give up. ESPN please put some TLC into this app. Update: Officially the worst app on the planet. Customer service places you on hold forever and doesn’t address issues and customer service doesn’t respond on Twitter. This app will never get better. ESPN should have to pay users to use the app. Total garbage. Update 2.0: Installed and deleted this app for the hundredth something time because that’s all the troubleshooting they know. I cannot believe I’ve ever paid for ESPN.
Worst App I Own
by ccpugh96 on 2018/02/27 18:03
I love ESPN and their sports coverage but this app is horrendous. ESPN clearly cares nothing about this app which is odd because they advertise streaming their shows all the time on TV. The App is so slow. When you open the app, you have to wait about 8 seconds for it fully open. Everything you do on the app (scrolling, selecting articles, viewing scores, etc.) there’s about a 3 second delay before the app processes what you did. Even notifications come in about 30 minutes after other sports apps have sent them to me. (DISCLAIMER: the issues are absolutely not my phone. I’m pretty tech savvy and everyone I know has the same issues) Used to be a go to app but now that I have bleacher report and can listen to the podcast on Apple podcast, I never use it. I read some where that espn just links the app to their website so it just try’s to pull things from the website which is why it’s so slow (not sure it is true but I’ve been trying to figure out why it’s so bad and that explanation made sense). I wish they would make a dedicated app. All-in-all, the app is awful. I’m not sure how the app has 4.2 stars. From what I can tell, not many people have reviewed the app since the update that killed it. I wish more people would come do a review because I have yet to meet a person who doesn’t have bad things to say about the app. If they don’t review the app it will never get fixed but oh well.
Has potential but too buggy
by Blizza!r on 2018/10/19 00:06
There are things I do like about this app - it’s easy to follow all your favorite teams, you can watch videos, it updates in real time. But unfortunately the benefits are not outweighed by the annoyances. The biggest (and until today, only) complaint I have is the incessant notifications. I know how to set notifications settings through my phone and the app, it is not an issue of ignorance. I’ve set the strictest settings I could, so I *should* only get a push notification when the two NFL teams I follow score points. Instead, I get constant notifications about random news from the NFL and MLB (the two leagues in which I have tagged favorite teams). I have tried turning of “Team News” and every other notification setting except the one for points being scored by my NFL teams. Nothing has worked. Eventually I just disabled notifications entirely for that app in the phone’s settings, which almost defeats the point of having it for me. The latest issue is a recurring error message telling me to check my internet connection. Nothing on the app will work, despite me having internet access. The pop up just comes up over and over again as I hit “retry” in vain. I do hope they fix these issues so I can use the app again. Until then, it gets two stars from me.
Much better looking but flawed...
by AMV7m on 2018/05/08 23:12
ESPN app has gotten better. Better lay out and easier to use to an extent. The ESPN+ feature/subscription is not. I have all my Apple devices signed in to the same Apple ID. yet he ESPN TVOS app does not play content. Any of it. I can select something I want to watch but when I click “watch”. Nothing happens. It is signed in with my ESPN sign on info, just like my phone yet they seem to be operating independently of each other. The TVOS app must have signed itself out recently because I opened it last night to watch a 30for30 and I had to “subscribe” all over again. I had already done that a couple of weeks ago. I haven’t found much to complain about in the iOS version and I end up having to use AirPlay to stream content from my phone to Apple TV instead of just being able to play it directly through the TVOS version and that’s a drag. It doesn’t always work well, quits if I get a call while streaming and often gives me a hard time just getting something to start playing. I hope you all figure out what’s going on with the TVOS versions and fix it soon. Thanks. For now, 2 stars. I don’t want to sit in my living room and watch ESPN on my phone with my 65” tv dormant in front of me. Pretee dorky.
This app uses bad technology to govern blackouts
by RidgefieldBob on 2019/03/11 22:10
I was blacked out from watching the Seattle Sounders vs Colorado Rapids game Saturday night. I live two and one-half hour drive from Seattle. The next day I went to a bar to watch the Timbers game with several soccer friends and made a comment about being blacked out. My friends all watched the game making comments about the game itself. I asked how they watched it, for Seattle games are not televised here, they all watched it on ESPN+!? All from the same community and I was the only one blocked. I just got off the phone with a ESPN+ representative and he told me it was probably due to the isp signal from my wireless provider and he could do nothing about it. I said that was not correct I said ESPN+ can do something about it and as a customer telling me your not able to do anything about it is unacceptable. I told him he needs to inform someone of the issue or it will never be addressed. He was a bit taken back that I suggested he take further action. I am not confident in this service. I pay my bill and they do not want to work to keep the customers happy with their product.
Quality of Articles
by USMarineKV on 2018/11/01 14:38
I use the app for updates on scores mainly. The content in terms of writing, is often old, and without substance that would differentiate from merely the score. Redundancy seems to be the theme with ESPN. Let’s just write and speak the same things over and over regardless of the audience be it on an app or television. I miss Peter Gammons and his writing, but I will compliment Buster Olney for his piece on the Red Sox. ESPN needs more of that, and less of the redundancy. Return to the daily writing of yesteryear! Do some actually research and writing! There’re stories out there, and one of them is the return of “heat, cheese, hard-ball” through a proliferation of hard throwing relievers and starting pitching that has brought baseball back full circle. Spinning is still statistically important, but good old country hardball has returned! Here it is, hit it if you can is what every fan wants to see! Nathan Eavoldi showed the world that, of the many players in today’s game who have had Tommy John Surgery, a return to, and in some cases, new found power pitching is possible. So, country hardball, and Hope should be the theme to talk about in much more depth. Seek out minor leaguers, follow them as well, and shed light on what’s the biggest development in baseball today.
Slow and disappointing
by Just trying to help people on 2018/08/08 17:26
So far, this app has been great, but there are a few things that make me rate less than a 5 or 4. I primarily use this app for baseball, as football season hasn't started. I just installed this app it to see if it was better that other baseball viewing apps I own. So far, the interface is great and well designed, but the app is SLOW! It takes a long time to start up, and it has a hard time with simple actions in general such as clicking on the details or score of a game. So far, I have had no problem with the live TV viewing aspect of it, but it should be noted that I haven't used it much as I am at home with my TV. The main thing that annoys me the most is that when I click on a player up at bat in the app, it brings me to a glitched version of the app’s website. You are unable to scroll, and have to use a drop down menu to continue on to the stats. Then when you finally get the stats, there is barely anything! In other apps, I can click on the player an instantly get an in-app page of TONS of stats, just like it should be! ESPN, fix this please!
It has been ruined
by WesleyHansen on 2017/12/02 22:13
The ESPN app has been my go-to app for sports news, scores, and recaps for a long time. But it has been ruined with the latest updates and redesigns. The app is almost unusable these days. Even when I am at home, on wifi, with nothing else running on my phone, the app is slow and crashes often. Don’t even think about using it at a game or anywhere your connection isn’t perfect. They have overburdened the app with video, ads, and cookies that slow it down to a crawl or even just prohibit you from even being able to open the app at all. Today I finally jumped onto the apps “text support” to see what I could do to improve my experience. Unfortunately the ESPN support rep proceeded to first accuse me of having a bad connection. I pointed out that he was incorrect and the rep then informed me that the app stores a lot of cookies and I should just delete the app and reinstall it. This is an annoying suggestion but I did it anyway. There was no improvement. And the tactless interaction with the rep definitely did not help the situation. The point is, you can do better. Go find another app that works and was designed by a company that still cares about their user base.
An exercise in futility
by Atime4treasom on 2019/02/01 23:17
Firstly: I subscribed because of the UFC partnership so my experience is limited to that aspect. First problem is the interface. Everything is just jumbled it. The site has a million different links even once you select the MMA tab and it is unclear where to go. There are multiple search tabs and as far as I can work out, none of them allow you to search for specific fights. Searching for fights on these (I.E. Dillashaw vs. Cejudo) just seems to give you a mash of news articles, fighter profiles and press clips. Scrolling down to the 'binge fight' sections is not much better. The fights are splayed out in no particular order and the replays are intermingled with highlight versions. No way that I can discern to look for a specific fight. When I finally found Cejudo vs Dillashaw (which aired exclusively on this platform) it said the fight hadn't occurred yet. It was two weeks ago. Customer Service: I decided to try the chat support. The first time I was connected to a rep. When I asked a question, the rep ended the chat. Second attempt I've been waiting for 35 minutes and running. How can the biggest sports network on earth be this terrible.
Not sure where to rate AppleTV version
by D.a.v.e. (Mic3) on 2019/02/10 17:23
The phone version of this app is...adequate. Could definitely be improved by having a ‘don’t show me’ list, because when have I ever wanted notifications on golf or baseball, but it’s mostly fine. The Apple TV version, however, is hot garbage and I don’t understand why. I’m legitimately hoping someone can help me. There’s no favorite teams/sports list, which means I have to dig for what I want to watch every time. Again, no ‘don’t show me’ list (really good idea, please implement), no replays button on the home screen like there used to be so now to watch last nights game I have to dig...a lot, and worst of all every time I use the app. it. keeps. kicking. me. out. and showing me something about AirPlay despite me having meticulously turned off everything AirPlay related on my Apple TV. This doesn’t happen with other apps, only espn. It makes games unwatchable. ESPN actively makes sports unsupportable. All I want to do is watch my basketball game without having to dig thru layers and layers of menus to find it and without the app crashing every 3 minutes. Someone please help me. 3 stars to the phone version, -3 to the appletv version.
Everything Except Streaming is Great
by Bearsman34 on 2018/05/16 18:32
ESPN, I have been all ESPN ever since I was old enough to care about sports. The writing and reporting is phenomenal, and I love to be the one in my family to break the biggest sports news. The app is great with notifications on your favorite teams and leagues as well as breaking sports news. The radio streaming and podcasts are great especially my favorites (Lebatard Show, Golic and Wingo, and 30 for 30). I will continue to use this app for all of those reasons. I do however wish you guys had full game highlights online, but I digress. The only bad thing I have to say is how god awful the streaming is. Tried to watch the ECF between cavs and Celtics and it lagged throughout the entire game when casting it to my chrome cast. It did the same just trying to watch on my phone and I have gigabit internet. I don’t know why that has always been an issue for ESPN. It has sucked since the first release of WatchESPN. PLEASE FIX THIS!!!! I’m begging you because the wife kicks me out of our tv room when I’m trying to watch the games! Thank you ESPN, and keep up the good work!
Suggestions and complaints
by Andrew Mollenauer on 2018/11/01 22:43
This is a great app. I am, however, disappointed in a few key things. 1. I had my favorite teams selected in “favorites,” and one day I opened the app only to find that there was no “favorites” setting visible, and that my favorite teams scores notifications were turned off even though I never turned them off. 2. I’ve said this in previous reviews, and I’ll say it again; I really really wish you’d put AHL hockey in here. The AHL is a minor league, but it’s got a strong enough following, and I absolutely love it, and I’d love to be able to more easily access the scores/news/stats for it here as opposed to having to go to the AHL website every time. 3. NCAA hockey, both men’s and women’s, are listed as sports on here, but whenever I check I never see them updated or covered as much as the games are happening. For example, I’m a Penn State fan, and I never see the scores for my school. Hockey is big, as is college hockey, so this is disappointing and surprising to me. Thank you for your time, and I sincerely hope that my suggestions will be taken into consideration.
ESPN+ Is a Mess
by Kenny Griffin on 2018/05/01 00:01
If you are using this app to get scores and updates, it’s good. However, I use it for ESPN+ and watch ESPN FC on a daily basis. I must say, the organization of both the phone and Apple TV app is awful. Trying to view the latest episode is so hard, especially on Apple TV. First, there is no feature to subscribe to a show. You just have to browse around to find it. Second, once you get to the episode listings they are not listed chronologically from newest to oldest and are not titled the same way each time. Sometimes they have the date in the title, sometimes they don’t. Sometimes the newest episode is at the top, sometimes it’s in the middle, and other times it’s literally all the way at the bottom. Additionally, if you watch the broadcast live and then pause it, the stream goes all the way back in time to the pre-roll stuff and you can’t go back to live or where you left off! The service seems half baked right now and I’m not sure I’m going to continue to subscribe at this point and time. It’s a shame they relegated ESPN FC to this service.
Love the redesign, hate the re-edits for rights
by mox.fulder on 2018/04/30 23:54
The past iteration of this app was a clunky mess. It was difficult to watch shows and check scores of games. Most of these problems were fixed with the new update. Like really, it is a fantastic update. The app is less clunky, the advertisements are less intrusive, and watching shows is much easier. Now here is the problem, I am watching PTI, which is the only show I actually watch on ESPN anymore and I notice that Mike and Tony are commenting on things as if video has just been show of something. However there is no video of said event just still images. The version of the show on mobile has been re-edited with all the highlights removed and replaced by still images. I understand this probably has something to do with ESPN not owning mobile rights to highlights but, come on that's the whole point of ESPN. Watching Tony and Mike comment is entertaining enough but, I want to see the thing they are reacting to. So this reediting makes the app redesign pointless because you are getting worse content. I will not be using this app until this is fixed.
Out of control - runaway notifications
by jfrizzz on 2019/02/24 07:51
I understand ESPN’s desire to draw more people into their content, but the app has simply gone too far. The notifications are reaching the point of unwanted spam. It’s one thing for me to want alerts for NBA News like trades or injuries, but by turning on alerts for league news, ESPN will send you an alert for every big game starting, every halftime take, every LeBron highlight, and every post-game press conference. It’s just too much. I am happy that ESPN is pumping out alerts to keep users informed, but the app should offer an opportunity to control what is being delivered. Divide the types of notifications up: highlights, big game alerts, opinion pieces, press conferences. These are regular items that are distinct from league news like a major free agent signing or a coach firing. This is applicable to every league that ESPN serves notifications for. Users get excellent control over game score alerts (start, quarter, half, final, close game), but absolutely no control over the endless alerts that ESPN lumps into “news”.
The worst
by sdb1989 on 2018/01/20 03:10
This used to be my go to for sports updates new pretty much anything sports! Now they just cover trash! The app runs horribly slow it’s like they don’t put out new stories or half the time they aren’t even covering sports. It’s amazing not only is their App bad the content they put on it is horrible who is running this thing! They clearly fired all the wrong people when they let all those people go at espn! They have some of the absolute worst sports articles or coverage of what went on in games or event that occurred. Plus now all they want to do is follow Lavar ball and his 2 kids they aren’t even in America playing in some nothing league overseas they get more coverage then the oldest brother who actually plays for the lakers it’s pathetic! What are you doing over there at espn your app is terrible and your sports reporting is even worse it’s quite the shame espn used to be the most reliable source for any sports info there was no reason to look anywhere or watch anything else now I’m looking for any app remotely decent to delete the espn app I’m done with espn and their garbage app!
Bad for the eyes
by Jetlag John on 2018/08/09 18:50
This app has all the sports info I want. It’s the place to go to find out what my teams did last night — or even how they’re doing now. I have three big issues with ESPN. 1) Too much in grey. For example, in box scores HR is in legible black, but the slugger’s name and data are in weak grey. My eyes are not that great and eye tests are a challenge, but ESPN doesn’t have to be so difficult to read. If two-tone is necessary display headings like HR in grey and data in black. 2) Navigation is slow and difficult. In progress game scores open to the last score displayed & it takes forever to update. So I try to speed things along by touching scores or sports or home, which of course doesn’t help but slows down everything. 3) the Yankees and the Mets are my favorites so their games are listed first. I’m also interested in the Red Sox but I’ll never call them a favorite, so their scores are hidden offscreen way down below. Give me a way to see all AL East and all NL East games in groupings. Summary: lots on info, hard on the eyes, poor navigation.
Watching Games and Soccer News
by 5,000 fifa pointer on 2019/04/27 00:38
Hi So recently I have been trying to watch some games on ESPN that I have the channel, but there is this glitch that just shows the loading button and than stops, and then nothing happens. Then sometimes, it actually works and says what’s your TV provider and I put Spectrum, than it again, just loads and glitches and doesn’t work. But when all of that works, the screen turns black. But the app is still fun but I wish Transfer Talk(in soccer) can be a bit longer. Also hopefully it comes sooner and when you say “that’s going to do it for us with today’s Transfer Talk. Come back in a few hours for another day of Transfer Talk pulled from (whatever day it is) pages,” I don’t want that to happen soon. Transfer Talk should come like 3 times a day. Please fix these issues. The last thing is, you barely update stuff for the teams that I have selected as my favorites. For example, Milan. (I’m a soccer fan) Thank god you updated the app from last year. It was horrendous last year. (No offense) Oh yeah, when I try to subscribe to ESPN+, it turns black.
Competition Is What’s Needed
by The Zohn on 2018/02/27 01:48
ESPN is the undisputed, unequivocal king of sports broadcasting in all shapes, manners and forms. It can seemingly do no wrong. And that’s the privilege it has earned as it has grown from its modest days as an experimental niche network struggling mightily to find relevant sports programming to broadcast around the clock to the mighty empire that it is today — a mighty empire that determines the very culture of sport. All this is to say that the reign of ESPN has been so dominant for so long that other networks have seemingly conceded the market entirely. As such, ESPN can only compete against itself. And with nothing at stake, there is no drive for innovation. And it’s been showing for years, perhaps in no better example than with this app. With a world of resources and capital at its beck and call any time of day or night, there’s just no excuse to have such a poorly designed, minimally functional app representing your brand in the world of interactive sports media. And therein lies the fundamental problem — the ambivalence of having nothing to lose and nothing to gain.
Great for Apple TV
by reneamac on 2018/01/27 22:04
I use this app primarily to watch major tennis tournaments. You'd think the best app for that would be the Tennis Channel app... Nope. Cons: SPOILERS! -- The app is organized so that live events are first (on the top row), followed by Clips/Highlights in the second row, and Past Events in the third and final row. This means you can't get to past events without seeing who won! And, the thumbnail of Past Events is often a photo of the winner. Come on ESPN: basic common sense please. Pros: Multicast -- the ability to watch multiple matches (games, sports, etc) on one screen. Multicast makes it easy to switch between what's in the primary and secondary screens, with the option to switch audio as well so you can watch one game and briefly hear what's going on in the other game or switch both. Past Events -- unlike many other sports apps the ESPN app keeps a large cache of past events. So you can go out, go to work, etc, and catch up at your leisure. This is particularly nice for watching sporting events happening all across the world. Program Options -- watch mainstream coverage in English or Spanish, switching between the main event (major players) and the 'sideshow' events (other matches, commentator interviews, coverage of the grounds...). Or choose to watch a single court, which I prefer in part for its focus and because the commentators are better.
Worst App
by Simmonsr on 2018/05/14 21:59
I wrote a review over a year ago noting that this was the worst app I have ever used. I was hoping since I saw that a tremendous amount of other people were saying the same thing, that ESPN would correct the issues in future updates, but this has largely not been the case. Although there have been several updates, and ESPN has sunk money and effort into watch ESPN and the new ESPN+, their app is STILL the worst one I’ve ever used. It seriously almost never loads on the first try, which is something that numerous other people are also complaining about. Honestly almost every time I use it it doesn’t load and I have to close it out and try again. I am constantly getting ESPN updates that are interesting to me and when I click on the notification to read further, it literally never brings me to the article I clicked on. I just tried it several more times and it didn’t work once. ESPN is a top rate organization with an absolutely horrendous app. I have had it for several years and it was and is the slowest, worst working app that I have.
ESPN+ Is Subpar
by jloux9181 on 2018/04/30 07:10
I really enjoy the ESPN app. I always like how I can get scores and news from my favorite teams. I wish coverage for Brazil’s Series A league would get more coverage. As far as ESPN+ I really love the idea of it. I like how I can watch MLR and USL soccer and even the replays of a lot of sports. My biggest issue is the navigation. It’s absolutely horrible. It’s similar to taking a handful of rocks and dropping them into a bucket and wherever they land is where they’re at. That’s how I feel with the navigation. It’s very difficult to find certain games when they’re live. It took about 10 minutes to find the Philadelphia Union match this weekend after the game already started. I also noticed a few days where there wasn’t any live games at all on ESPN+. Like I said, I really love the idea of it and I do hope it will improve but right now I can’t justify paying for a subscription for this. Do not raise the subscription price of $4.99/month. That is a good price I think. I hope this is an issue that will be improved.
Hardly works. Doesn’t work correctly when it does
by Dude 69 420 on 2019/04/19 22:05
I go to open notifications of video clips that sound interesting and it NEVER brings me there. It’ll bring me to some three week old article and I just get frustrated trying to navigate this app trying to find the video it told me about. Watching games is hit or miss. 50% chance you’ll get through more than 10 minutes without the app crashing, playing nonstop ads, or the video cutting out. Not my internet. All other sports streaming apps work fine. Fix it. Plus, as much as I love getting to the second news I’m most cases, IT WILL TELL ME THE FINAL SCORE OF A GAME IM WATCHING ON LIVE TV TWO MINUTES BEFORE ITS OVER. LIVE TV. LIVE. I’ve had countless heart-throbbing experiences ruined by prematurely learning the outcome of the game before the broadcast is even finished. A bit of begging and choosing to say that the scores updates are TOO fast but it’s something that other people have had to have noticed. However, if you are ONLY going to use it to check scores/get updates it’ll be fine.
A joke of an app
by DilRyeMaster on 2018/04/30 23:31
Wow, I subscribe to multiple things that should allow me to access this app but no, it’s garbage. It plain doesn’t work. Oh what’s that? You’d like to start charging people? You’ve gotta be kidding me. The amount of hubris is off the charts over there. How about you pay $5 a month for something that should be included with your cable package... also, it doesn’t even work. How about no? What was the plan here? I’d love to sit in on a meeting where the idea was “what if we charge people to watch what they’re already paying for!?” Could you be any greedier or more out of touch? Prove me wrong ESPN I dare you, or just complain to big daddy Disney that someone was mean and they’ll send someone to beat me up. I also can’t purchase 30 for 30 anywhere else. I’m willing to throw money at you but no. YOU’RE SHOOTING YOURSELF IN THE FOOT. I WILL FIND ANOTHER MEANS. If you were an ISP would you only be able to long on by telegraph? Remember in 2010 everybody had the “genius idea” to try and create their own social network? That’s what you’re doing right now but you’re too dumb to realize it.
From flawless to frustrating
by Foursta on 2018/06/08 05:26
Used ESPN 3 to watch rugby and found it worked perfectly. The new ESPN + app required to watch rugby is buggy and frustrating to use. There is no easy way to see a list of sports when searching like ESPN 3 using my iPhone and iPad, games that have already occurred show as upcoming (see reds v Waratahs which starts at 3:30am for the last week), search results for games don’t include all available games / replays for a team and clicking on the calendar of events for replays started the game at the end, giving away the result (again reds v warratahs). Not the experience I expected when moving from free to $50 a year. I’m not baulking at the price it’s that I expected the paid app to be an improvement not a backward step. Hoping that improvements to the navigation and search will come in future updates. The app overall seems too chaotic, trying to cram every possible feature into a single app and unfortunately that doesn’t deliver a great experience (in my opinion).
Slow, Unreliable, Clunky
by Dannymcboy1 on 2018/03/23 22:11
This app is a great resource for its overall data and information that it contains. However, there are so many things wrong with it. It is slow and laggy. It takes like ten seconds to load the app, then another five seconds because there’s an unwanted video highlight on the home page. Also, whenever there is a “must see” notification or any kind of notification that plays a video when you open the app, it doesn’t show the video, it shows the home page highlight, and there is no way to find the other video. This app is just so slow and laggy. ESPN parades the app like it’s godsent, but it’s actually horrible, laggy, slow, and clunky. I’d recommend an app I recently started using called Action Sports. It has seamless functionality between pages and instant updating. It’s very user friendly and provides TONS of information, even for bettors. Overall 2/5, just for the WATCH ESPN function and information it contains.
Absolutely Terrible
by Bwalk2056 on 2018/05/05 11:08
This app has easily the worst User Interface of any app I’ve ever seen. It’s clunky, cluttered, and not easy for the user to find what they are looking for. I would be okay with a poor UI if the app wasn’t also lagging. There is no way to hide the crap you don’t care about, so you have to scroll through the useless crap to get to what you want. I have been watching Rugby on the WatchESPN app for years for free and never had any issues. The app was simple, straight forward, and reliable. Now that Rugby has switched to this app, I’ve had nothing but issues (and I have to pay for a product that is vastly inferior to the free product I enjoyed). For the first week, Super Rugby matches wouldn’t show up when you searched for “Rugby”. They do now, but good luck trying to watch a full game without getting an error. This morning, I go to watch the Rebels v Crusaders replay and the broadcast starts when the game is 3/4 over. Now I can’t even find the rest of the games I should be seeing. ESPN+ is a terrible product as it is right now.

I don’t write a lot of reviews. I’m not sure that I’ve written any others. I’m writing this to send feedback to the developer, and to warn other potential users. They need to know that this app is SLOW. It routinely takes 6-10 SECONDS after launching this app before the screen becomes responsive again. Who measures responsiveness in seconds in 2018? I have no idea what this app is doing in that amount of time. 8 years ago, the ESPN scorecenter app was a requirement. Now.... it’s complete garbage. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but Yahoo sports app is now my go-to. Yahoo. Yahoo hasn’t been relevant since 2005! You get 2 stars instead of one because a) it’s better than your actual web page (which leads the league in user hostility *cough* auto play videos *cough*) and b) your Apple Watch app is somehow the best available for me. It’s still crap, and takes waaaay too long to update scores, but none of your competitors have managed to do any better. I’ve tried them all.
I’m done with this app
by Itsmemario7 on 2018/02/28 21:41
This app keeps getting worse and worse. I’ve had it for years and has always been my go to for scores, but lately it has been painfully slow, crashes constantly and has to restart, takes forever to load each page, etc etc. it takes 30 seconds just to open the app to the main page, then another 20 seconds to be able to start scrolling...it used to only take 2 seconds. It seems like they focus too much on video clips, every page has to load 4+ videos before you can see the score of the game you’re looking for. 15 second clips require you to watch 30 seconds of adds beforehand. And I’ve had it with twitter feeds...I don’t care what Lavar Ball and Lebron James tweeted, if i did, I would follow them on twitter. Maybe they’re trying to do too much and just need to get back to a simple setup. I’m only giving this app 2 stars because it used to be good, recently it should only be one or none.

I have an issue with espn! The end! No but wait, there’s more! My current tv provider doesn’t carry lovely little espn you see.. I happen to wanna watch some college hoops.. but when I look up espn and their little funny gimmick on how I can spend $5 a month to watch espn channels.. I guess that only applies to those that already have the espn channels (with their tv provider) and wanna watch more behind the sense or on demand things from espn! Guess what I’m saying is........ I could already have the channel if only my tv provider did so.. but I’m jus gonna pay to watch it again to see channels I already would have if I only had them... so theoretically I’m either payin to watch the SAME live channels twice with on demand to which I dnt care about like not even a little OR I’m payin to watch NO live channels with on demand to which I dnt care about at all like literally zero! So totally I’m canceling my subscription, like 5min ago! But hey, I jus wanna say thanks! Do please have a wonder time reading this comment too (espn!)
Worked great until update
by BlkVmon on 2019/04/28 19:59
Like title says worked great until I updated this morning. Yesterday I could open the app, navigate to whatever game is currently on or what the scores were. Today I update and I’m not kidding it literally loaded for 15 minutes on the first page all white with just the icons at the bottom. After that LONG loading time I could leave the app and return just fine but it drained my battery JUST running the app this morning from 100% battery to 20% in a matter of less than 5 hours... running in the background. I kill the app from running and my battery finally lasted until I just started to charge it. I go to open the app again and now it has been trying to load since I started typing this and still hadn’t loaded. A shame that you can’t use the app unless it’s plugged in the wall from burning my battery stupidly quick just running in the background with my phone locked most of the morning.
Still a terrible app
by zachartrand on 2018/12/24 13:23
I’ve reviewed the espn app about 5 times now. Every other time has been one star. Finally almost willing to give them 2, but after writing the review I’ve decided they aren't worth it. Still terrible. Before I get into it, I wonder how they have 4.5 out of 5 stars. All the reviews I have seen have been 1-2 stars with the occasional 4-5 star review that sounds more like a participation trophy. Bunch of people trying not to hurt any feelings. Give me a break. Even their playoff standings make no sense. In leagues as basic and as the nfl and nhl the standings are trash. They are simply the conference standings with absolutely nothing else. They tell me nothing about the current wild card standings or who is in “the hunt”. Apparently the writers know nothing about sports? I much prefer the nhl app and the nfl app, but it would be nice for espn to finally figure out how to do their job so I can have all my sports stuff in one place, but I’m about to accept the fact that this will never happen. I used to hate the videos that would always crash. Now they don't crash, but I wish I could easily see my favorite teams scores like I used to. Now I have to scroll through 100 news headlines that I do not care about before I can see them. I guess we all want what we cant have. I will never have a half way decent espn app. Quit trying to make a fancy app and make an app that actually works. Forever and always, One star
ESPN PLUS (UFC 235)
by Mendozachris on 2019/03/04 01:04
Today is 03March2019, I’m writing this review on the ESPN + subscription aspect of this app. If you use this for its free aspects then it’s a 5 star app. ESPN has been pushing the ESPN + paid subscription service for quite some time. I went ahead and tried the free 7 day trial to stream the Preliminary fights for UFC 235. I spent over an hour trying to figure out why, after subscribing to the service, I could not stream the fights. First, they did not explicitly explain that they would NOT be streaming the fight UNLESS you have a TV provider. Secondly, this means that you would have to pay double a month, one for the cable provider and another for their internet streaming. I only figured this out after calling the 1-800 number and listening to the automated message. This is just a garbled mess. Pay here and pay here. Money money money. I wish they were transparent with their pricing and stipulations. It’s important to understand that ESPN will not let you stream certain events due to contracts they have with the cable providers and you won’t find out unless you pay both the cable provider to have ESPN AND pay ESPN+. Save your money and DON’T subscribe to the ESPN plus unless you’re willing to dish out around $20 a month. The ESPN channel subscription for your cable is already the highest subscription you’ll pay and now they want an extra 4.99 a month to let you stream the events online.
Annoying ads, video at top
by DP on 2017/12/02 16:55
My primary usage of this app is for checking scores, getting a quick glance at schedules and stats, and occasional browsing of sports news articles. It is OK. The older version of this app was better. The “new” version has so many ads, including the annoying ones that magically encompass the entire screen when you’re about to tap on scores or an article and therefore force you to mistakenly link to some ad site, that it makes scrolling cumbersome. Also, who wants to see some random video at the top of the screen when logging in that has no context that you mistakenly tap because it is constantly at the top of the page (e.g., scores of the game the highlight is from, or a 30 second clip of an interview that has no additional context)? I don’t!!! It seems like the app intentionally leads you to mistakenly tap ad-related material.
What are these people thinking?
by MikeM2 on 2018/04/17 19:36
This app lets me go back and watch events that I missed, but they add clips from their sports shows to that event page with the most clips recent first, and so before you can watch, for instance, an auto race that happened 3 days ago, you have to scroll through a bunch of clips from Sports Center with titles like “Highlights from Ricciardos Win in the Chinese Grand Prix!”. Then you can find and watch the Grand Prix, so there is no way to watch a previous event - soccer, tennis, baseball, etc. - without first finding out who won. Ridiculous. Also, you can select many sports clips and event feeds that play normally, but many other clips and feeds OF THOSE SAME EVENTS gives an error saying that “you are not authorized to view this content”. There seems to be no rhyme or reason that some things can be viewed while other things can not. I sent an email to support asking for clarification, but there was no response, which is another reason to stay away.
Apps needs to be cleaner
by anathalab on 2018/04/29 22:02
Two things. I like the app. It gives me updates I need with news and with games. However I wish ESPN+ was its own app (I purchased the subscription because of MLS, EFL) and having ESPN plus as its own (similarly to NBC Sports Gold helps eliminate non subscription content. This leads me into my thing; this is app is very messy to use. There’s no way to filter the content you want so you’re not seeing content you don’t want (I am only interested in soccer and don’t want to switch the UK version in the app because you can’t watch the games). In addition to a messy home screen, attempting to find the sports you’re interested in and their game is difficult and when you do find it those games aren’t listed (even thought that’s what ESPN+ advertise). I like the app, I truly do but I wish it was much cleaner than it is. Hopefully changes come soon.
Save yourself some time
by PowderRun on 2018/02/02 02:33
I personally have nothing against Espn. I in fact love the will Cain show and their many well developed personalities. But this app? I hate it. I get an update on the lock screen. “Dennis Smith Jr. lands insane dunk”. I’m immediately hyped. I press the notification and use my thumbprint to unlock my phone. The Espn app loads up. The title of the clip appears at the top of the screen. Then, POOF, it shows me some obnoxious Stephen A. clip that I had already seen. Then I try searching for the clip that Stephen A. So rudely interrupted. I have no idea where they store these clips because I can’t find it for the life of me. C’mon Espn, don’t tease me like that. I get hyped and then experience the gut wrenching feeling of missing out on an insane dunk, or an unbelievable call by a ref. Save yourself some time, get Bleacher Report, they pull resources from Espn and are much more user friendly. Also, if you want some more spirited reporting, try out Barstool Sports, they’re a lot of fun and offer a broader range of articles.
Handcuffs made from bulls hit
by CJ Soviero on 2019/04/02 23:41
I love that this app has everything that I could ever want, but the way that they present this outstanding product is undeniably horrible. Let me start by saying that I do not have significant problems with any of my other apps, so I know that it cannot be a coincidence not blamed on my phone, cellular or wireless network. This app will crash non-stop, not load videos (or load them on such low quality that it looks like you’re watching three sports mashed into one), the links often don’t work, the app will occasionally continue to play sound even after quitting along with numerous other annoyances and headaches. I can’t believe I wasted this much more time on this app, but I hope this will save someone a lot of frustration. I will continue to use this app as long as this is the most reliable way to watch Serie A, but I wish the WatchESPN app would be brought back because there weren’t nearly the consistent failures with that app.
Always Comprehensive & Looking to Improve
by schwarztech on 2018/06/13 04:10
My previous review mentioned that Chromecast support seemed broken, and I tried just about everything I could to troubleshoot the issue (lots of "Not Authorized" errors, despite everything working fine on-device). Since then, I hadn't tried it again, but it appears to be working fine now. That being said, ESPN didn't need to redesign their app, but they did and it's always an attempt to make finding content more user-friendly. I like the changes, and while I may not have ESPN+ all the time, it's nice to see what I could be getting (certain times of year it will come in handy). I've tried other sports apps, and outside of MLB At Bat, ESPN's alerts give the most information.
Why doesn’t ESPN care?
by Surfganfsta on 2018/03/11 20:56
10 years and this is my first review EVER!! Like many of the reviews before me, I love ESPN TV and radio, but this app is a dumpster fire! It has gotten progressively worse after every update. It takes forever for content to load. Many times I’ve tapped an article to read and the headline and first paragraph are there and the rest of the story content isn’t there. Closing the app and trying again does not solve the issue. I tried their online tech support to inform them of the issues with their app versus immediately giving them a poor review. Complete waste of time. The person was worthless!! Their only suggestion was to uninstall and reinstall the app. I had already done that. It seems to me that ESPN just doesn’t care about fixing or improving their app. This is how you lose revenue. I’ve already downloaded two other sports apps that are far superior and will most likely use them as my go to sports apps in the future.
Frustrating Playback Interface
by DaanishK on 2019/02/04 10:40
I’m a big fan of MMA so I had to make the jump to ESPN+. I’ve installed the app on both my phone and PlayStation 4 to see which one works the smoothest. For whatever reason there seems to be hiccup during each broadcast so far when I cast to my TV using a chrome cast. Streaming on my PlayStation works better but the playback controls are a nightmare. When I fast forward using the controller it jumps back before going forward. I hope ESPN looks into this and refines the app rather than bleeding everyone out for the $5 a month and providing a suboptimal app. And pretty please with a cherry on top look at adding a 30 sec forward and backward jump to playback controls a la fight pass. Especially if you’re gong to force me to watch Dairy Queen commercials with my UFC. You can do it ESPN. I have faith in you, kinda.
Poor overall
by jcd372 on 2018/12/23 15:12
The selection of sports and games is fantastic, the delivery of those products is very poor. Apps on FireTV and my iPad constantly force me to either log in over and over or worse, uninstall and reinstall to get them to work. To he fair this is not an issue on my phone but that’s my least preferred platform to watch. When I’m able to get to the streams they are consistently choppy with frequent buffering. This happens on every type of connection, home or traveling. I also use a streaming service for all other channels and do not have an issue with my home WiFi connection with that service, yet with ESPN+ that’s not the case. Bugs are certainly a feature of most apps, but these problems have been occurring for half a year. Fortunately I chose then month option meaning at the end of my current month my time using the app will come to an end.
Needs some tune ups
by ellis.adamm on 2019/04/23 15:00
Needs the ability to see stat leaders for each sports league and for individual teams ie touchdown leader for the NFL and touchdown leader for the Lions. Could be as easy as adding a stats tab next to standings in the league page and next to rosters on the team page ESPN + needs a watch list. I don’t know how many times I’ve watched the first 15 minutes of a show and had to go do something and when I come back to finish it, I have to search for the show again and start it over and fast forward to where I left off. This should be a standard feature. Bring back the cards under the live video. I used to enjoy watching a game on my iPad and being able to see the scores and live stats of other games underneath.
Very poor app
by Mr_Stats_94 on 2018/03/08 06:17
This app is awful. This is what happens most of the time I get a highlight notification: LeBron has a dominating finish to tonight’s game, so I get a notification and I click on it to go watch it. It takes forever to load, and then once it does, it will be only audio most of the time. The video is nowhere in sight, you’re just on the home page, but you can’t get rid of the audio. The only way to stop this is to navigate to another highlight and hit play or restart the app. To make matters worse, if I actually had the ESPN app open before clicking the notification, and say I was in a box score of a game, the notification I clicked on won’t load sometimes. So now you have to go manually find it on the site. Now maybe that’s not a huge deal to you, but it’s definitely not convenient. Since that’s what apps are supposed to be, and this one misses the mark so badly, I can not honestly give it any higher of a rating.
Came for the UFC
by BBryant0 on 2019/01/20 20:29
Tuned in last night for all the early prelims and all main card fights on the UFC Fight Night: Cejudo vs Dillashaw, experienced absolutely no issues with the streaming. I had watched early prelims on both my phone and laptop, and switched to my television using chrome cast, so in my experience the streams were handled well on multiple platforms. This adds up to 4.5 hours of stream time which means it was able to run for a good amount of time as well. The membership is affordable as well at only $5/month. I have heard from other people they had issues with their streams so your experience may vary, but since I had experienced no problems I give the app and the membership 5 stars
BAMA FEVER
by Boombostik on 2019/04/01 20:11
This is one of my most used apps. I wish that when I get a notification and click on it to open that notification that it will actually play that particular thread smoother. Other than that I love it. Update: the app has gotten slow...really slow. And glitchy. It takes almost a minute sometimes longer for it to open from a notification. Watching a game is null and void now unless I want to watch it in Spanish lol 🤦🏾‍♂️. Every time it says that I can’t watch it and to call my service provider. I call AT&T and they said that everything checks out on their end. Please fix this?? Baseball season is already here and football season will be coming next and I’d like to be able to watch the games like I used to be able to.
Unwanted alerts
by chepler84 on 2018/11/10 18:11
This is everything I want in my sports app. I honestly love it. There is one exception. I don’t know if it’s from app updates or what exactly, but the app continually turns on “Breaking News” alerts. I go to the app settings and turn them off, then sure enough a day or two later they’re turned back on. I take my alerts and notifications on my phone seriously and and very deliberate about what I’ll allow to grab my attention. I like getting updates on my teams, but I absolutely do not want breaking news from espn. Most of it is completely irrelevant to me. It’s causing me to consider turning off notifications from the app altogether and going elsewhere for the updates I want. Please, please stop turning on breaking news alerts!
A lot of content. Doesn’t really work.
by kcebttocs on 2018/07/21 19:26
There are an enormous amount of sports available in this app. I wish I could watch them. I signed up using my Apple ID on my iPhone. I had to sign out of ESPN+, and now I can’t sign back in. I sign in with my espn account and I don’t have an espn+ subscription. I sign in with my Apple ID, and it doesn’t recognize my login. This has been going on for about an hour. Meanwhile, the game that I want to watch has been going on for 30 minutes. All of this is in addition to the fact that the playback on the app just isn’t very good, and there’s no replay or archived games. Update: I finally found out how to get the app to recognize my subscription but I still can’t watch on my computer. The website says “select ‘link your account’” in the settings of your phone. I have no idea where this “link your account” option is. I’ve looked all over my phone’s settings and even in the app itself. The app seems like it was rushed into production with no care or interest in how people would actually use it there are numerous places to contact customer support, which tells me they knew it was a poorly designed app and released it anyway. It’s about the least user friendly app I have and it’s incredibly aggravating because I’m a big sports fan and have to use it constantly.
Decent app, crashing issues
by DanielManning on 2018/10/07 20:49
At the time of this review, the app is having major crashing problems. It won’t stay open for more than a few seconds. I didn’t update it, and I’m on the same WiFi I always am, so no idea what’s going on. I’d submit feedback about it, but- you can probably figure out why I’m here instead. When it’s working, the only complaint I have is that you can’t add/remove sports or leagues from the main feed. I literally could not care any less about baseball, but during the playoffs that takes up a lot of the feed. Otherwise it’s solid. Probably the best thing about the app is the 3 minute SVP app segment they upload every morning. Blurbs about the biggest highlights in a more casual format. Great addition.

They would get swimmers and swim supporters from every corner of the world.

by jps6659 on 2019/05/19 20:41
I’ve been an avid ESPN ap reader since my first iPhone. While I’m ok with free enterprise, I’m trouble that certain articles are now blocked. So you want $4.95 a month for premium now? Not for me. If it continues I’ll get my football news elsewhere.

Useless

This app stinks
by NayNayR on 2019/05/19 14:15
This app keeps getting worse and worse. The videos don’t play the way it’s formatted is complicated. It use to give me no problems but now I cringe when I open this app. I’m going to get my sports information from another app if I can’t use this one adequately. It’s a total waste of my time
Not a good app

Gets stuck and is very glitchy
Does this app even work any more?
by SkippytheCowboy on 2019/05/19 04:33
This app’s front page is so weighed down with videos that the app has a hard time loading, even when connected to wi-fi. If it wasn’t for the college sports coverage, I would never use this app. Today was very frustrating because I wanted to track NCAA baseball, softball, lacrosse — nada on all three accounts. I’ve spent the day staring at a white screen that can’t even load the stupid videos most of the day

by Steelersman43 on 2019/05/19 03:03

I purchased the annual subscription through the app, but cannot watch any + content online or any other platform without linking the account.

Poor performance, app struggles
by Swandive01 on 2019/05/16 01:57
Pretty god awful performance from the app, it is incredibly slow and does not work most of the time for me. I have the newest iPhone and have good WiFi and service and every other app on my phone works good, this one is just not good. I have notifications on and you cannot actually click on them and view them because when it goes to open them it won’t ever load. You’d expect better performance from a company this big.

Slow to load, difficult to navigate, terrible user experience. They need to scrap this thing, fire the app development company they used and start over. Also please don’t make me watch a 30 second ad in order to be able to watch a 45 second clip.

ESPN+ is a terrible product as it is right now.

by optimus17prime on 2018/01/31 23:45
I don’t write a lot of reviews.
