It seems like too much to spend the $6.99 a month on crossword puzzles, but it’s the freaking New York Times crossword puzzle. The best way I know to keep your brain developing and your knowledge growing. Lateral thinkers of the world, UNITE!

Times Crossword
by marcyjean on 2019/09/18 12:37
I had to stop playing Words With Friends because I was an addict. Now I am in danger of becoming a Crossword addict. So I have to limit myself to one new mini, one archived mini, one new daily and one archived one per day. Otherwise... I am slowly getting the hang of the crazy clues that make you think around two or three corners. Good for the gray cells!
Where is my puzzle history?
by Miss Elissa on 2019/09/18 07:30
I often play old Sunday puzzles over the course of a week or 2 for brief intervals in the evenings. I used to be able to view my puzzle history and resume the last puzzles I was playing easily, but I don’t see that option anymore. I also like to do easier puzzles in between when I work on a Sunday one. I need to be able to get back to the puzzles I was working on without having to to memorize the exact month and week of the one I had been doing. This is going to make the way I like to use the app very inconvenient :(

Add spelling bee?

Love the xword, app is great. Can you add spelling bee to the crossword app?
Only crossword available no other games
by LilliasOleno on 2019/09/15 11:27
So no Tiles, no Sudoku etc VERY irritating
Excellent!
by Carlopeto on 2019/09/11 04:07
I have tried other crossword apps. They are not bad, but this one is THE BEST... by far! Very intuitive functionality, great crossword challenges. I buy the Super Sunday packs. UPDATE: I used to love everything about this App, but lately -the last 6 months- they have opted for “cheating” or screwing users by offering only “Minis” and “Midis” packs that you can solve in 3 minutes. What a cheap way to steal money from loyal crossword solvers!!! What happened? Why have they opted for such a scam????
Awkward
by FavodBk on 2019/09/10 03:13
Not loving this app. Rather than giving you options to go where you want, the app predetermines your next move. Clues come in sequence, and you cannot jump between horizontal and vertical clues. It would be preferable to more closely mimic the feel of an actual crossword. Disappointing.
Game subscription FAIL
by Gee_Astro on 2019/09/09 00:46
Just hit ‘zen mode’ to keep playing games and selected annual subscription Was brought to credit card info page. Submitted and can’t access any games. Tried to contact customer service and got a message back saying nobody’s home now try again. Later. Epic FAIL NY Times. DONT DO IT
Great app, but terrible on iPad Pro 12.9
by Kobur16 on 2019/09/07 14:10
Really enjoy this app, except on the iPad Pro with the on-screen keyboard I can never see the bottom two row of the puzzle. Little yellow box says you can drag the keyboard down, but you cannot! Also there is no possible way to see a puzzle in its entirety as it automatically zooms in slightly and will not automatically fit itself the the area they’ve made available for the puzzle itself(as opposed to the area where the clues are displayed)
I love this App!

Worth the cost!
by JScraps on 2019/09/04 13:54
Worth every penny and easy to use on my iPhone 8. Thursday through Saturday are difficult but it’s easy to look up answers and check for mistakes—that’s how you learn! And the little mini-puzzle are fun, I love using them as warmups.
Won’t let me subscribe
by Pegwoodworking on 2019/09/03 22:45
My NYT crossword app won’t let me subscribe or buy packs. I click on both the buy and subscribe buttons and nothing happens. It’s quite frustrating and I can’t seem to find a way around it. I used to be able to use this app with my older phone and now I’m having lots of issues, it’s quite disappointing.
Nice overall but glitchy stats tracking
by Fruit Fuzzy on 2019/08/31 02:36
I have loved the NY Times Crossword for many years and using the app the past year has been fun. I occasionally experience a glitch in stats tracking though, like this week’s completed Thursday puzzle apparently, unknowingly, never made it into the server, as Friday’s completed puzzle showed streak starting back at one (and me almost at my personal record). When I click on Thursday’s, which shows no completion time, the puzzle comes up as I had it, all filled in correctly, and the completion chime sounds but it doesn’t log. Oh well...fun puzzles but stats aren’t worth a thought.
Fun but bugs frustrating!
by Razor32 on 2019/08/29 14:20
Sometimes when i finish a puzzle I get the “keep trying” message which SHOULD mean I have something wrong. And sometimes I do have something wrong. BUT, other times after racking my brain and even “cheating” there is nothing wrong and I finally hit reveal puzzle and it will a little mark indicating a correction next to letter that is EXACTLY what I had in that square before the ‘correction”. Makes you lose your streak and really pisses me off! WHY ??? Anyone else having this problem? Are the developers aware of this issue?
Where are the other games?
by AMHeinen on 2019/08/29 02:32
I subscribed for letter box and don’t see it in the app.

A dollar a day?
by i like soda better on 2019/08/28 14:28
Free trial was entertaining and samples of extension packs, but a dollar a day to get mostly too easy puzzles seems a bit much. Have no use for minis midis or way too easy puzzles just to pass the time. Paying extra for packs of 10 or 15 puzzles eh... I understand this is a craft and Will Shortz an NYT cache, but there’s also no replay value. I have to think hard to spend $ on packs of puzzles and how few packs I even would want before I ran out. Mostly the puzzle packs are too short minis and midis, definitely not spending $4 on 20 minutes of unreplayable puzzles.

What happened?
by KMCinGA on 2019/08/26 17:27
After being a subscriber for years, I have been unsubscribes without warning. The so-called chat on the web page is actually a mail program. I want either my subscription restored or my money back.
$3.99 down the drain
by Nick2011too on 2019/08/26 03:57
I wasn’t sure if I wanted to subscribe so I purchased a $3.99 pack but couldn’t access it even after two days of trying. Tech support couldn’t help. Too bad, the app’s interface is nice. Maybe it’s a good thing though because I could see myself getting addicted. Now it’s off to fight Apple to try and get my money back.
Fun competition but ADD Leaderboard history!
by JohnnyI41 on 2019/08/23 19:45
My friends and I love playing the minis and competing with one another. However, we each play at different times of day and can only see the leaderboard for that particular day. So if I do it in the morning and my friend solves at night and I check the next morning then I can’t see his previous day’s time. FRUSTRATING!

by oaktree12 on 2019/08/22 21:21

Subscription is wildly overpriced
by Jeff Kurtz on 2019/08/22 19:25
$7 a month for crossword puzzles? That’s insane. I really want to subscribe for more puzzles, but the price is simply too high. Other than that, I really like this app.
Daily Player
by Jerbear17563680 on 2019/08/22 15:40
I play the daily mini everyday, and I love competing against my friends and checking in on the leaderboard. It’s a great way to stay connected with friends who live and work in different places across the country. The one suggestion I have for improvement is to add a historical wins column to the leaderboard. I’d love to be able to look back at past wins/losses and to compare those against my friends for a leader of the week/month/year. I’m hoping to see a new update out soon. Thanks to the designers for creating something which is a fun addition to my daily routine!

Feedback to the developers about Archives
by Lintacious on 2019/08/14 22:52
There’s not a way to contact the developer within the app so I have to put it here. I really wish there was an easier way to access archives. Am I missing it? I like going back in time and picking a random puzzle. I don’t always finish it. Then I’ll play today’s puzzle. When done with that I want to go back to my in progress or downloaded puzzles from the archives. I don’t see a way to do this! You always have to pick a month and year. The problem is I don’t remember what I picked. I probably have 5 in progress and more downloaded puzzles and I have no idea how to access them. Improving the archives - or having an “in progress” area would make this app perfect.
Great Value

I love the NYT crossword app!
by Yellow Klein on 2019/08/14 05:29
If you are a serious crossword junkie, you have to follow this puzzle. The app lets you solve the daily puzzle in real time so you can revel in your cleverness on the various NYT crossword blogs. It’s brain exercise, with many learning opportunities as you have to (ahem) research various clues in the harder late week puzzles. Worth every penny, and that’s a lot of pennies for a puzzle app! Try it for free, but know you will likely get hooked!
Show more stats!
by dak4949 on 2019/08/10 03:21
Like, date of records for each day of week, percentile among all times solvers, or would that be too depressing?
Why can’t I access the “tips” article and comments?
by christensenmj on 2019/08/07 12:04
After paying for an annual subscription, I am frustrated that I cannot read the full tips article that is linked to the app without separately subscribing to the whole NYT paper. Apparently I’ve reached my maximum free reads (of just the tips article), so no more help for me. I especially liked reading the comments of the other puzzle solvers. I would think that article could be made available each day along with the new puzzle. I refuse to spend any more money on my puzzle habit.
History Deleted
by 7MileDuneKing on 2019/08/07 02:17
When I bought a new phone I lost access to the Archoves. App says I am on a “trial subscription”. I can’t renew because ITunes tells me I already have a subscription. App is about to delete my history and streak, all because I bought a new phone. Call Apple, hours, no help. Get a link telling me how to contact the developer. No such link. Feeling take —both time and money. Don’t change phones and expect to get any assistance.
Please make it social!
by mareflair on 2019/08/06 00:21
Being able to compete or play with my friends is the only thing that would make the puzzle more fun!
More options to find puzzles
by Ederina on 2019/08/04 04:51
As far as working on the crosswords, the app is just fine. I’m disappointed that you can’t search by creator. As a woman, I’d love to play crosswords created by fellow women like Anna Shechtman, Elizabeth Gorski, or Tracy Bennett. It’s a bummer because I like their puzzles, but it’s a needle in haystack situation. 😒
Alignment

Please properly align the keyboard! I spend so much time backspacing and re typing!!
Fun but frustrating
by loboclon on 2019/08/01 15:49
I enjoy these puzzles, but sometimes they take massive liberties with the form, creating special “rebus” squares comprising a symbol or a string of letters. They often seem to have a theme, but there is no puzzle title to give you a hint. I suspect that titles are shown in the print versions.
Great variety and levels of puzzles
by MichSuz on 2019/07/31 23:39
App functions smoothly - appreciate the hints as I move beyond Wednesday. Learning more about crosswords with each puzzle.
Unfair and illogical subscription policy
by M. Lucero on 2019/07/31 23:05
The app and the puzzles are awesome, but fair warning about the subscription policy. If you subscribe but don't do all the puzzles that are released during your subscription period, and then unsubscribe or don't renew, then you would think the app would still give you access to all the puzzles from during the period your subscription was active. That just seems fair and logical, since if you subscribed to the physical NYT for only a year or whatever, you could do the puzzles at whatever point you felt like it. However, it doesn't work this way. If you miss the puzzles, you're out of luck once your subscription runs out, even if you paid for a whole year and only did a few puzzles. In other words, the only way to get your entire money's worth is to do an average of one puzzle every single day for the entirety of your subscription period. This may seem fine for some people, but for those of us who want to just do the puzzles at leisure, just whenever we have time for them, a subscription is a terrible way to go.
Puzzles Won’t Load
by Em_Joy97 on 2019/07/27 05:25
I love doing the mini crossword every night before I go to sleep! I have been doing them for years, but recently, my puzzles have stopped loading. It’s only once or twice a week that I will receive the privilege of doing the daily mini puzzle. Please fix this! My friends are sad that I no longer show up on their leaderboards!

App stopped working after last update
by BurbankGrip on 2019/07/21 17:00
Since the last update, the app will not close a puzzle once it is completed, it just keeps giving to Error Somewhere banner. I even cleared puzzles and filled them out according to the answer key, just to be sure...the last Friday’s puzzle has now been open for almost three hours, as I have filled it in over and over without it showing as finished. Please help!

Update wiped out my streak!
by maafla1 on 2019/07/20 19:40
The latest update wiped out my streak of over 650 consecutive days completing the daily puzzle. The issue e occurred on Thursday then seemed to correct itself but has crept up again! I want this fixed! I take a lot of pride in that streak. Please help!
Latest update has a bug
by NChiker5711 on 2019/07/19 10:47
Since the latest update, the app no longer registers that I’ve completed a puzzle. I get the “congratulations” message in the puzzle itself, but when I return to the main screen, the display shows the puzzle as incomplete, and it’s no longer recording streaks. IPhone 7, IOS12.3.1.
Version 3 crashes immediately on launch

Update: The crashing bug was fixed! Thanks!
Pleasure
by Ferrbo on 2019/07/17 15:07
I’ve been doing the Times puzzle since I was eighteen! Don’t ask me how many puzzles, easy or perplexing, I’ve encountered in the ~54 years which followed. Simply, it’s one of the essential joys of life; no exaggeration. How many things you can count on to start a day. Coffee, cereal, the Times and the puzzle!
Update has made this game frustrating
by iamjbird on 2019/07/17 10:40
I’ve run into an issue since this new update where you will type a letter and then it will disappear even after forming the word. It’s making the game very frustrating as I keep having to go back and replace the missing letters even with auto check on and getting them correctly. It seems to be either lagging or a button may be stuck. I hope this is fixed soon.

Needs iPad Pro update
by Biox on 2019/07/13 05:29
Doesn’t fill screen on the 2018 iPad Pros with Face ID. I’m often accidentally triggering something in the app because the unused black border is active (but black). After a recent app update, the statistics don’t update properly upon puzzle completion either. I have to kill the app and relaunch. Also, it would be nice to have an explanation of how the “solve rate” is calculated, because I’ve completed every puzzle I’ve started, yet my solve rate is 98.6% instead of 100%.
Update does not work
by Fgghhhjhjkkiuy on 2019/07/13 00:18
The updated version does not work correctly and crashes shortly after launching. I have been using the website rather than the app for about 2 weeks now. Please have this corrected!

Other puzzles?
by Set12345 on 2019/07/11 18:42
I have a subscription to the crosswords at half price due to subscribing to the digital NYTimes as well. I complete the crosswords solely through the app on my phone. I wish the app would also incorporate the other puzzles the NYTimes provides, like the Spelling Bee, Soduku, Set, acrostics, bonus crosswords, and other puzzles. These can be accessed through the help menu in the crosswords app, but I wish they could have their own apps or be accessed on the main page of the crossword app. If only the app could be set to display the main puzzle page (puzzle homepage) of the NYTimes, it would be very easy to access all the available puzzles through the app. As it is, you need to go to the help menu, click on one of the additional puzzle links, and get to the homepage through the menu bar of the puzzle. It’s a pain, and it doesn’t need to be. Please, NYTimes, provide easy access to the puzzle homepage on the Play page! Alternatively, give the app a new tab just for accessing other puzzles. It would make the app so much better!

Super Expensive
by Daotat on 2019/07/10 19:37
This is easily the best crossword app out there and it’s completely ruined by how incredibly expensive it is. It costs 40 dollars per year to play, and double that if you pay per month, which is beyond insane for a mobile game. It should be closer to 4 dollars per year. Or better yet, don’t have a subscription mode at all and just charge a flat fee. I can’t stress enough how dumb this model is. It’s very clearly been designed by a newspaper company, but the same business model that works fine for a physical periodical publication makes no sense when applied to a digital crossword.
A lifelong Habit
by c12arolyn6 on 2019/07/10 05:10
I have been solving the Times puzzles for all of my life. I began as a teenager riding the New York subway to school and later to work. When I worked in Equitable Life I solved the Sunday puzzle with my confreres, passed from desk to desk as we calculated dividends on policies using a calculating machine. As life continued I solved it in the morning before going to teach my high school math and physics classes. As the years rolled by , it became my morning companion especially on Sunday. It was a long puzzle but not as challenging as Thursdays or Saturdays. Now retired, turning 87 this year ,it is still my morning routine, done on my iPad. Sometimes like now I do it the night before since I live in Ca. I get the real paper on Sunday, nothing like the real thing, Reach for the Magazine section and do the puzzle in ink not with a finger but a pen. I hope i can do this for a another full life time. It is fun and keeps me thinking. Thanks, thanks, thanks for a lifetime of fun. Carolyn Sicinski Laguna Woods, Ca.
Latest update still not fixed after 3 weeks
by Qwkuyp56 on 2019/07/08 00:04
I can’t believe that an app that I’ve paid good money for is still not fixed after the latest update 3 weeks ago. Their “solution” is to play online. Really??
Thanks for the daily challenge to my erudition.

by Mrbojangles323 on 2019/07/06 05:04

Love the app but buggy
by Sa2404 on 2019/07/05 16:41
I love the app and crosswords, but I’ve run into issues after competing a puzzle. Sometimes I solve and go back to the main page and today’s puzzle still shows blue (not yellow) and my steak isn’t updated. When I click back into the puzzle it is completely solved. I’ve had to quit the app and re-open for it to appear yellow and in my streak. Yesterday this happened and when I re-opened it the puzzle was back to being halfway solved and I had to re-solve it.
Five stars for content but...
by Cimmerian2 on 2019/07/04 11:03
It is simply outrageous that when you move to a new iPad (I've gone through this twice) or the App updates like it just did it shows all your completed puzzles as not done, until you click on them and then they're filled in. For those of us who've done many this is enormously annoying and seems simple to fix. Though it has survived for a long time and through "updates" (in fact updates are part of the problem). Fix it please. But, I must still give it five stars, as I can’t live without it...
Airplay mode was a terrific surprise
by krs013 on 2019/07/04 06:51
Connecting to an Apple TV with screen mirroring presents a different view that shows a large puzzle and lists out as many clues as possible, and it’s perfect for solving the puzzles with friends and family. I didn’t expect it when I first connected but it was a great surprise! Really enjoying the app.

What other crossword apps wish they were!
by JKLM_iPad on 2019/07/03 18:07
Dang you, NYT! Now you’ve ruined me on crossword puzzles using paper and pencil! I used to think the WSJ crossword app was good, but it’s *miles behind* this app. Congratulations on both the app and your puzzles—top notch! Yo Bezos (in case you’re listening), what’s up with *no app* for crosswords in the WaPo? The browser access you host is beyond clunky! Seriously, have you ever tried it yourself? I guess you’re too busy bankrupting other businesses...

Only one complaint
by newinNJ on 2019/07/03 12:42
When a puzzle requires more than a letter in a square (recent example “check”as part of several answers) there’s no way to solve it — that I can figure out.
Love this app—except for the sexism (yes you read that right)
by CHASE BIZZ ACT USER on 2019/07/03 05:05
My one and only complaint is that the mostly male puzzle creators love sneaking in their sexist clues/answers—the over abundance of clues/answers pertaining to women’s undergarments (ie bras) or body parts (ie bosom) as compared to those of men—99% vs 1%. It’s extremely annoying, unnecessary, distracting, and I always feel blindsided when one comes up. The editors need to set a rule that the puzzle creators must stop this veiled but insidious sexism.

Where’s Sudoku? Why can’t I play Tiles? I may as well have set fire to that $20 for all the good my subscription is doing me. Why are y’all advertising these games on your app & then making only crosswords available?! DO NOT BUY.

Wish they would tell you the puzzle title in app
by Andrianaconda on 2019/06/30 10:38
Love this app, play all the time. My only critique would be that they should add the title of the puzzle under the puzzle info “i” where they tell you who edited the puzzle and such. I don’t always have internet access when I’m playing so I can’t always visit the webpage linked there.

Since the evening of June 26, 2019, the NYT crossword puzzle on my iPad and iPhone has become inaccessible. That date also marks the first time the tag introducing the “leaderboard” feature first appeared on the app. Since the 26th, when I tap on the Crossword icon, the screen goes quickly to the Crossword face page, then immediately to a black screen and back to the iPad’s main screen. The same thing happens on my iPhone. My instruments have the latest iOS updates. I have re-booted the equipment and downloaded the latest version of the app more than once, but the problem persists. I have had the iPad and iPhone checked out by staff at the Apple Store, and nothing is amiss with the hardware. They have cleared and reset the settings and rebooted the instruments, and I am still unable to reach the puzzle. Any information or guidance you are able to provide in how to correct this problem will be greatly appreciated. I miss my daily online dose of NYTCrossword puzzles. Thanks for your attention. JBK
Unable to Sign In on IPhone
by leightonie on 2019/06/28 13:54
Since the latest update I have been unable to open the app when signed into my account. It works fine when I am not signed in but as soon as I sign in the application force closes. This happened as soon as they updated the app and added the leaderboard. Obviously would like this fixed as soon as possible since I have paid for the app.
Other Games
by Enika on 2019/06/27 16:25
I subscribed primarily for access to the logic games, like Spelling Bee and Tiles. However, the app only allows access to the crosswords, even though the NYT app says the subscription will give you access to the logic games.
Five letter word for doesn’t open - CRASH
by theoldlefty50 on 2019/06/27 11:33
Using this for years, generally happy with it. Last few days crash, rest iPad, open. Now, even that doesn’t work. If it were free, I wouldn’t complain.
Latest update crashes

App updated this week and always crashes immediately. Deleting and reinstalling did not help; after first log in app crashes again at first screen.
Latest update with leaderboard doesn’t work
by maggiemessmaker on 2019/06/27 05:11
This latest update is not working on my iPad mini 4. It opens, says something about new leaderboard feature and then closes. Neither Rebooting iPad, downloading fresh copy of app, or signing out and then back into App Store have made any difference. I also checked that my subscription was current and it is until sometime in 2020. Really disappointed.

Latest Update crashes on my iPad
by cryptojazz on 2019/06/26 11:27
Installed latest update, which features a Leader Board, but it crashes whenever I try to open it on my iPad. Pretty annoying since I'm paying for a subscription to the daily puzzle. I tried rebooting but it didn't help.

UGH for the upgrade

UPDATE: Personal leaderboards? This ain’t words with friends - the popups about this new ‘feature’ (bug) need to stop. -> Need instructions on disabling leaderboards - right now, please. ORIGINAL was 4 of 5: I do the puzzle almost daily (don't care for rebuses, but they function correctly in the app.) App works very well / consistently. My one request is to enable users to customize display of purchased packs, to archive completed ones, group incomplete ones, etc.
I do not care about other people’s times
by Axosmook on 2019/06/25 13:27
This app would not work for me this morning until I acknowledged something about other people’s times. I DO NOT CARE. I do not appreciate this. I PAY for this app, and I want to do the crossword puzzles, not gawk at other people’s times. 🙄🙄🙄
Still no support for new (old) iPad Pro screen sizes!!!
by nellysisgone on 2019/06/25 12:06
Stop with the fluff and update the screen. This update is gimmicky. Update the app for the new iPads and fix the garbage keyboard. Please add support for the 12.9” iPad that doesn’t use that awful, distorted keyboard.
Still no iPad Pro resolution support.
by bhawk22 on 2019/06/24 21:53
Why is it so difficult to make the app compatible with all iPad screen resolutions. It’s been 8 months since the 11” iPad was launched. Come on NYT. You’re better than that.

Can no longer make in APP purchases
by cardsharky on 2018/01/10 06:05
Now when I try to do a purchase there is no confirm button on the bottom half of the screen. On the top half on the right side it says double click to confirm. This banner is slightly moving but the item I am supposed to double click never appears on the screen. I have an iPhone X and have recently purchased Midi puzzles but now I can no longer purchase. I also looked at a annual subscription but the same screen issues. Good News. I ended up googling my question and found the answer. That double click message: on the X phone on the upper right side there is a button one can push. So when it said to double click that’s the button they want you to push. So I ended up purchasing an annual subscription. Thought I’d have access to all the $2 - $4 Midi puzzles but that’s not the case. Of course you get access to the big Daily puzzle. But for the Midi’s you have to pay extra as if you had no subscription. BUT I do have access to the Midi archives and thus I have access to 28-31 puzzles for every month of archive. You got a 5 star rating from me on my initial review when I was having technical problems. So no need to update that.
NY Times online crossword puzzle app
by drmin73 on 2017/10/31 03:51
For $2 or $3, you get access to the archive of the daily puzzle in addition to all the Monday through Sunday puzzles as they come out. A gold star is available for each new puzzle that you complete on the day of its issue. It’s an addictive feature that has kept me completing the puzzles each day now for the past two months and counting. Other collections of themed puzzles are available for nominal fees. The included archive alone looks to be enough to keep me occupied for several years to come, at least. These are fun puzzles to experiment with, since the technology allows for rapid, easy letter replacement. I frequently go with my gut on difficult and obscure answers, sometimes finding them surprisingly correct, sometimes transforming entire puzzle quadrants from one set of answers to a largely different set. The letter replacement feature makes this app a clear favorite over the old pen and paper technique. I use the app each day and highly recommend it.
Love the app - would like a remote collaboration feature
by Seekonk MA on 2017/09/22 12:11
My wife and I love to solve the NYT crossword together each and every weekend night using this app. However, I travel during the week and I wish there was a remote collaboration feature where we can solve together when she is home and I am in my hotel room. I want to be able to see what she is typing (real-time) and be able to also type at the same time. (Note, we usually have a FaceTime call going while we are solving separately now--but the experience is not the same as when we are sitting next to each other). The current version of the app allows us to work separately, and then it occasionally, but unexpectedly, synchs--with her typing replacing mine and vice-versa. If you cannot support real-time collaboration (I think you can), can you at least add a manual synch control so we can both choose when to merge the other's player's typing--possibly with color-coding so we can see the other's additions/changes?
Great app, but version 2.14 is buggy
by Bercosad on 2018/08/11 09:09
Love the app and my subscription to the online crossword. Am having lots of problems with version 2.14 on the iPad though - it keeps failing to accept input from my Bluetooth keyboard (Anker folio cover) while at the same time all other apps on my iPad keep working fine with it. And then at the same time it won't even bring up the on-screen keyboard when I turn off Bluetooth. Have to restart the program, more than once sometimes, to get it to work again. Have tried deleting and re-installing the app from the store. No joy. Sure wish I had kept a cache of the previous version... Update: it fails in a similar way on my iPhone - the keyboard just disappears and you have to kill and restart the app to get it to reappear. I don't use any Bluetooth keyboard on my phone so this seems that all of this might be a case of the app just forgetting at times to reactivate the keyboard when it's needed. Annoying bug.
A Mini Lover
by CatLucente on 2018/11/01 02:57
I’ve been a crossword puzzle fan for years. The NYT crossword is legendary; if you can solve it, you’re a pro! I was excited about this app because of its “minis,” quick puzzles you can complete in minutes. You can get a bundle of 30 for $3 to $5. Each time I’d buy a bundle, a window appeared offering the opportunity to get a “subscription,” for $40. So, I thought this would include these mini bundles in the price. But when I purchased the subscription, I realized that I still have to pay for these bundles! WTH?! What a rip-off! It would help if they made it clear that all you’re buying is the puzzle that appears in their paper.😤 UPDATE: Now that the NYT Crossword Team has responded to my issue, and they’ve pointed me in the direction of hundreds of FREE Mini Puzzles, I am extremely happy with this app! It is SO much fun! I’ve alerted all my friends on FB to the enjoyment this app offers. And since most all of my friends are far more brainy, with much better vocabularies, and they possess quicker mental acuity than I do, I have no doubt they’ll be subscribing to this app. While it’s important for each of us to exercise our bodies, it’s equally as important to exercise our brains. And crosswords are a great way to do that. I highly recommend this app! (FYI, I use it on my iPhone 7.)
Update brings errors...
by bratschegirl on 2017/09/23 19:01
Immediately after updating the app, there were clearly some wires crossed somewhere, because the stats section was showing a longer streak than I was actually entitled to. Later it seemed to have been fixed, and then it was wrong again. I finally figured out that the stats section and the archive section were each hanging onto a different set of mutually conflicting information, and uninstalling/reinstalling the app seems to have fixed that particular glitch. Also, even though I previously had notifications turned on for the publication of each day's puzzle, and had not changed anything, I was no longer getting them, but since I was asked to re-create that setting in the course of reinstalling, I hope that has been fixed as well. I don't like that the box which appears immediately after successfully completing a puzzle no longer shows the time. Otherwise, I find the app easy to use, and I really enjoy doing the puzzle this way.
Great, But Annoying iPad Pro Bugs
by DCep on 2019/05/29 19:15
I love the NYT Crossword, and this app makes it really fun and convenient to fill out every day! The mini is a great break, too. The app even displays a special version of the crossword when I’m AirPlaying to the TV to solve with others. Nice touch that makes me appreciate the developers. However, it’s been a while, and there are still a few outstanding issues on iPad Pros. I’m using the iPad Pro 11” with Smart Keyboard Folio. First, the app hasn’t been optimized to fill the whole screen. Not a huge deal, but it’s falling behind. Second, with a keyboard attached, there’s a huge lag when typing the same character twice. Really annoying a few times every puzzle. Finally, when returning from a slide over app that was using a keyboard (like I often do, with my messages), I can’t type in the crossword anymore. Annoying bugs aside, still a good app that makes it fun and easy to fill the crossword.
Tons of fun; nav is good, not great
by Yet another guy named Phil on 2017/09/13 14:37
Most importantly: Nothing's my I'm about to say should impact your purchasing decision. If you like doing crosswords and you're okay with buying add-ons (either puzzle collections or the NYT puzzle subscription) you should pick this up. The navigation is more than good enough. I, however, will quibble. It's nice to move quickly from one clue to the next with the arrows provided, but there are a few more common navigations that I wish the app provided directly: - Better navigation within the local grid. The words directly adjacent to each other in a cluster aren't always the next/previous ones numerically. - Better "non-manipulating" navigation within the word. Sometimes I misclick the square I want, and would like to adjust one or two squares left/right/up/down, but one can only go backward destructively (by deleting letters) and forward by entering letters into the box. One affordance that would address both problems is a set of four-arrow "cursor keys" that would move the cursor up/down/left/right without modifying the contents of the box under the cursor. I doubt that's the only solution, however. Anyway, great content for crossword fans, my navigation quibbles notwithstanding. - going back and forth within the
Has advantages over paper version
by Fractalfoot on 2019/03/27 03:35
Doing the NY Times Monday crossword has been one of the highlights of my week since college. Now I routinely make it to Wednesday, with the help of this awesome, but addictive app. I once put the rest of my life on hold during a seventeen day ‘streak’, but got a grip and now just do the ones I can finish and still get work done. Having the stats is neat, too. But perhaps the best part is having access to archive puzzles so I can go get a Monday puzzle from days of yore whenever the urge strikes (well, and I whenever I actually have time). Finally, when not streaking, the feature where you can struggle for a reasonable stretch and then give up and check the puzzle and find out which square is the problem is worth its weight in gold. Probably saves marriages, that feature...
Ruining My Life
by mihowser on 2018/04/11 20:53
I wake up sometimes too earlier to seek some peace and quiet before my kids wake up and totally ruin everything. I sneak downstairs, turn on my coffee maker and I impatiently wait for it to finish. Sometimes I am too impatient to wait (ok most times) because I need to grab my blanket, hunker down with crossword app and just start already. On those days I stick my mug directly under the stream, making a wholly mess in the process but who cares! IT’S CROSSWORD TIME! MY TIME. And I know they release the next day at 10 PM but dude, who wants to do that? I like to savor my morning routine. But sometimes I can’t finish them and I go mad trying and so it’s ruining my life in the best possible way. If we ever need to cut back on our expenses, I’d give up shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant and haircuts before the NYT Crossword app.
Extremely buggy and unreliable version—please respond and fix.
by tgbguava on 2017/10/05 19:42
This is getting unacceptable. This is not a free app—I pay annually for this app and have done so for quite a few years now. Is there anyone making efforts to undo these bugs? I have attached a screen video of what happens to my phone when it crashes. I can now confidently say that it has to do with internet connection (specifically when I regain connection like when I’m on the subway). You will see that happens at around 16 seconds into the video. To add insult to injury, you will also notice that when I return to the app, I lose my most recent progress as well. At this point after making effects to reach out in the past, I ultimately feel that if I do not at the very least receive a prompt reply, I sadly cannot continue to support your app. Please take the necessary steps to fix this problem and treat your loyal customers with the respect they deserve. I will also be posting this as a review in the hopes that might inspire more action. Thank you.
App getting worse
by History Buff AZ on 2018/09/08 22:42
Used to be a good app. Now the keyboard disappears when leaving a puzzle. Complete puzzles do not sync across other platforms (e.g. iPad to iPhone). I’ve completed daily puzzles this week, but if you go into the recent screen only one from this week appears when in actuality I complete at least one per day. I’ve contacted customer service several times by email and phone. I usually do not get an answer by email but when I do they say they’re working on it. Some of this has been going on since May. I expected this app to work better since it came from the Times. Maybe I’m expecting too much? 9/7/18 update - key board issue fixed and that app seems to work better. It still doesn’t sync across platforms, but I can live with that issue since it’s rare that I do crosswords on my phone. Thanks NYTimes for the response.
The best crosswords I can find!
by Townimbecile on 2018/02/01 17:30
My best guess is that anyone who regularly does crosswords has a love-hate relationship with them. There are words that get reused because they are convenient fillers. Puzzlers are expected to know some words in any European language (but not other languages). Puzzles often try gimmicks that only sort of work. No doubt crossword puzzles can be extremely frustrating. That’s why you need them to be written by professionals, who can give time to developing and editing a superior product. The New York Times has built a reputation for doing this for decades. The best thing to say about the app is that it does not get in the way o the experience. It isn’t particularly frustrating, and considering I find fault with most user interfaces, that’s saying a lot.
I need a daily crossword!
by Edob75 on 2018/12/07 07:25
I cannot survive without a daily New York Times Crossword! In fact, if I miss even one day, I, myself become very cross! I’ve been doing a crossword puzzle every day of my life since I commuted, by subway, to high school in New York in 1959. If I miss a day I feel as if something is very wrong. The larger Sunday puzzle is a romp. Having a theme helps. Monday is a breeze. Thursday’s is often the week’s most challenging for me. Lately, I have found Saturday’s to be difficult as well. I am very far behind in knowledge of popular culture since retiring from the daily grind of regular employment and residing in New York City. The clues in that area (popular culture) are sometimes way beyond me! But, I know all the archaic words and culture very well!
Even the bugs are fun
by ChadBear.PDX on 2017/09/24 19:13
Having a blast ripping through puzzle after puzzle. No interest in the minis or the midis, just the "real" crosswords. Although the app on my iPhone often disagrees with the app on my iPad as to streaks, times, etc., it matters not. I rather enjoy watching them argue with each other. Along with access to cryptic and "pun" puzzles, the Times web site offers acrostics and an infinite backlog of all types of puzzles. This app does the important job of presenting puzzles for me to solve, all day and night if I so choose, and that's the entire point. There's always something to criticize about nearly everything, but for me, the pleasure and stimulation afforded here is worth nothing but praise. Four and nine-tenth stars.
Buggy
by Ken Calvert on 2019/05/05 19:02
The puzzles are of course great, but twice now my streaks have been interrupted when I completed a puzzle in time, but was not connected to the Internet. Yesterday I finished the Saturday puzzle, was greeted with the gold "Congratulations!" screen, and then moved on. This morning it told me I had a zero day streak, and when I looked at the puzzle, the last three squares were blank! I was in an area of spotty connectivity when I finished the puzzle, and did not open the app again until this morning. The other time this happened was when I was on an overnight flight and finished while in airplane mode. The only thing I can imagine is that the app is calling home pretty frequently to send data back to NYT. The fact that iPhone says the app's cellular data usage is an absurd 1.1GB suggests it may be sending all kinds of other info besides where I am in the puzzle. That is NOT REASONABLE.
Great app, but...
by @jbmitchell on 2018/11/10 01:27
I love this app. Use it every single day on my train ride to and from NYC from Connecticut. The one complaint I have, which I have written tech support about more than once: please let the app download the next day's puzzle when I am at home and connected to wireless. The app tells me the puzzle is available, so how hard can it be to have the option to go ahead and download it automatically? Countless times I have been on the train with spotty cellular service, ready to solve a puzzle but I have to wait for the train to pass through an area with better cell service. Sooooooo frustrating. Please fix that one flaw!
Curated packs NOT included in subscription
by KTWalk on 2018/12/26 08:52
Just writing to let others know that the curated puzzle packs are not included in the annual/monthly subscription. They really need to make this clearer, as I would not have gotten the annual if this was made clear. I get that you get access to the archives, so I don't understand why subscribers can't access the packs, it would make selecting a puzzle so much more convenient, and save quite a bit of time browsing for puzzles. I do like the app, but I am extremely disappointed by this, and really don't feel it's worth the subscription as I was looking for another app to supplement with puzzles I could play on the easy days when you finish quickly, and access to the archive sounded appealing, but without the option to play packs the app is just not as appealing.
Rebus frustration
by MR Bflo on 2019/03/07 15:10
The only reason I’m not giving the app 5 stars is because of rebus puzzles like today’s (3/7/19 - STICK EM UP theme). One example answer was the movie Hang ‘Em High. When I entered “EM” as a rebus in this answer, and in the answers to all the other theme clues, I got the pop-up at the end telling me I needed to make corrections. When I changed them all to just “E,” I won the puzzle. This seems to happen every time I work a rebus puzzle. I guess I don’t understand what the rebus button is for if I can’t use it when I think I need to. I’ve searched the app’s help feature and the internet for instructions, but haven’t gotten anywhere. I think that should be explained more thoroughly in the help section. Otherwise, I can’t get enough of this app!
It’s good, with room for improvement
by Grumpy iOS developer on 2019/01/12 16:27
First off, I use this every day, and for it’s main use of filling out the daily crossword it’s great! Some of the extras need some polish, though. It occasionally forgets about puzzles I’ve already completed, and if I buy a pack of puzzles, complete some, and come back to them later, it forgets that I downloaded and finished them. I do like that it saves my progress across devices, though. Also, I have an iPad Pro 11”, and the app doesn’t extend all the way to the edge in landscape mode, which, as an iOS developer myself, is an odd bug; I didn’t realize that was possible. But overall, it’s a good app. If you love good crosswords, you should get this and subscribe. I definitely get my money’s worth out of it.
Great puzzles, pretty good UI
by UsherMocha on 2018/12/23 19:40
The puzzles alone make the subscription worth the price if you’re a fan of the genre. I’ve used Crossword Classics for years and it’s a great app (superior to this one in terms of user experience) but there’s something about the NYT puzzles that gives them an edge over most others. As for the user experience, it’s pretty good. There are a couple of little things I can’t help comparing to the other app: the annoying pop up that comes when you finish a puzzle but not correctly, the ability to jump to a referenced clue, an option to put the controls along the bottom, and just showing the current time. But in general, it’s easy to navigate and as I said, the puzzles are great.
I love doing crosswords but it’s so so buggy
by Arielnicole on 2018/08/01 19:00
I also have the app on my laptop which is even more buggy. This one is buggy because sometimes when i switch to my messaging to text someone back and then return to the crossword the keyboard is gone and i have to cancel the app and start it back up again, sometimes i’ll type in the square and nothing will appear and i don’t know why but canceling doesn’t fix that. Also i wish i could just turn the errors on and off like i can for LA times crossword. i hate having to click 3x everytime i wanna see if the word is right (because sometimes in the harder ones i need to play like that). Other than that i use this app the most out of all my apps, and i feel smart when i complete a puzzle.

Favorite crossword puzzle!
by HereComesPat on 2017/11/19 15:24
I love the NYT crossword puzzle, and the app is even better than the paper version --> when I get it all correct, it rewards me with a happy tune! You can use a pencil if you like, it will check letters, words, or the whole puzzle, it keeps track of my statistics over time, and has a link to a blog. There's puzzle packs you can buy as well. Okay, sure, I do have to subscribe to get to work this puzzle, but that's the cost of living out in the country where it's tough to get a good daily paper. I just got a new iPad for Christmas and this puzzle app was the first app I installed!
Love doing the puzzles but
by kjm1997 on 2018/02/07 03:28
My subscription was renewed a couple of days ago, and now there is a banner across the top saying “your trial has ended SUBSCRIBE”! It still seems to work, at least I can access the one puzzle I was working on, so this just seems to be an annoyance (I hope). As my credit card was charged 3 days ago, I don’t need to subscribe. Why does the app not know my subscription status? Also, for some time now the app crashes every time I open it, and I have to open it again. This has been going on so long I’ve gotten used to doing it. :( Update- logging out and logging in again seems to have fixed the subscription problem.
Best XWord App Out There
by SUPERZED. on 2018/05/09 05:32
The title says it all. But I’ll say some more (lol). It’s basically perfect. It’s convenient (as in, the functions are convenient), user-friendly, clear/easy-to-read, and has many functions which allow each player to play by their own crossword rules. For instance, I can check a square, a word, or even the entire puzzle depending on how much help I think is okay to play with. It times you, in case you are interested in tracking that sort of thing, and all the puzzle packs are reasonably priced and incredibly entertaining to play. I think this app is just superb, and super, SUPER awesome!
Latest update
by SuSuGrad on 2017/11/11 16:15
This used to be a great app. Update 2.8.4 introduced numerous bugs. The app reverts to the high contrast color scheme every time you reopen it. Also, if you reopen the app without closing it, it used to simply take you back to where you left off. Now, it restarts, gets to a screen asking you if you want to resume where you left off (waste of time). Then when you say yes, it reopens the puzzle in the last entry you made, rather than where you actually left the cursor. In addition to all of this, the app crashes CONSTANTLY! Update 2.8.5 did nothing to fix these issues. What’s going on?
Easy to navigate and use.
by NedLeonard on 2018/02/28 19:38
This app delivers the quality experience the branding implies. One of my favorite features is the Archive. If I want a quick work-out, I go back in time and work a Monday through Wednesday puzzle (though the latter can be quirky and require the Rebus function). Later in the week, of course, the puzzle is more challenging. Judicious use of "check word" can get you back up and running toward completion if you seem horribly stuck on a Friday or Saturday and if you don’t mind breaking a “streak.” All-in-all an excellent value if you enjoy a quality crossword experience.
Great but I can’t disable sounds?
by Xjrksoscndl on 2017/11/01 16:54
I love this app with all of my heart but I can’t seem to find any button to disable sound. At the end of solving every puzzle I always have to head that two second super loud piano jingle. Sometimes I’ll be playing and forget that my volume is turned up all the way and the noise scares the absolute crap out of me. Sometimes I’ll play this game in the wee hours of the morning and that obnoxious noise wakes up my boyfriend. Maybe I’m not seeing the button and someone can navigate me to it, but if I’m right in saying that there’s no “disable sound” button, please, please make one. I don’t want to have to hear this anymore.
Nice for mobile use.
by midnapper on 2017/10/24 05:08
Will Shortz is de Mann. For a couple years I downloaded extra puzzles for offline use and never finished a bunch. Then I started to be able to finish each day of the week and began to watch my stats. The mobile app has no link to unfinished puzzles and for two more years I tried to backtrack to randomly finish all puzzles. It turns out you can’t reach 100 % because the web page version always keeps at least two puzzles Unfinished or its error checking, I believe, would endless-loops freeze. One link on the mobile app would have saved me a couple years of frustration.
Love this app! (But I have a suggestion)
by baileybooks on 2017/12/13 22:41
I love this app! I do the puzzle nearly every day, and this app has a user-friendly interface that makes it even more fun. Just one suggestion: sometimes, I can’t work the puzzle on the issue date. When I solve it a few days later, I get a blue star, even if I solved it perfectly. I understand not getting a gold star if I didn’t complete it on the official day—but how about a third level of star (silver?) for getting it right on a different day? It would be nice to have a visual that indicates my solving record more accurately.
NY TIMES CROSSWORDS
by Dieuxdew on 2017/10/11 18:44
My wife has been a long-time NYTImes crossword puzzle aficionado, always doing them "in ink." When I retired a few years ago, I started working on the puzzles over breakfast, with the on-line version (my wife laid claim to the paper). I thought it was a snap when she pointed out that Monday's were the easiest. I soon found that to be the case, and slowly worked my was through the week. I now do pretty well (excepting, for the most part, Saturday's). They're often fun, occasionally vexing and always challenging. The puns, however, are painful! Keep up the great work! John
Rating for app, I really like the puzzles
by FishboyCo1 on 2018/07/23 02:53
I enjoy doing the puzzles every day and like that I always have them with me. However, the app has broken my streaks several times when I have not had an internet connection. Today I had already finished the Sunday puzzle, but when I opened the app Sunday evening to do the Monday puzzle, it showed that I had not done the Sunday puzzle. It came up with all blank cells. This has happened twice before and is very frustrating!!! This app should not be dependent on a continuous Internet connection for stats. Once the stats are updated, why does it revert to an old version???
Enjoyable but could be a little better
by usageguy on 2017/09/08 08:18
I enjoy the app and use it just about every day. It works smoothly and reliably. My only complaint is that puzzles with unusually formatted answers (rebuses or special characters) can require all sorts of guessing before finding the one solution that will be marked as correct (like whether to use a star or type "star", or whether the 'across' letter or the 'down' letter is desired). It would be nice if multiple solutions that are correct could be accepted. Minor problem, though. Overall, this is still a great app.
Crossword puzzles get me through these times
by DisappointedinDuluth on 2018/04/03 03:17
We are boned as a country. Really, really screwed. Two different sides aren’t talking to each other, thanks to a self-destructive oligarchy from within and who knows what from without. I can’t think about any of that when I’m doing a crossword. I get a respite from my brain. I don’t subscribe to the New York Times. I limit my news intake, and I read their stories through Apple News, and the ten or so free stories I get each month. If I subscribed to the paper I’d be a basket case, so I support them like this.
Keeps crashing;a phony "gift"
by Ansrmann on 2017/12/21 09:37
Latest update claimed to fix frequent app crashes. Not yet, guys; puzzle has crashed eight times today and still hasn't loaded on my iPad. Took five tries one day earlier this week. It always takes at least two tries for the app to refresh with a new puzzle. Another example of how buggy this app is; repeated efforts to download the 75th anniversary "gift" pack have failed. Keeps saying I've already "purchased" it but the pack does not appear in my collection. The "Restore purchases" command doesn't help. And a third; as recorded by the app, my best times for two days of the week are ridiculously wrong. One minute 26 seconds to complete the Saturday puzzle -- I wish! Nice gesture to celebrate the Times puzzle anniversary with a gift collection of great puzzles but really, it's no gift if customers can't access them. If the Times fixed this and the other problems, my rating would be 5 stars for the quality of the puzzles. But an app this consistently bug-riddled just doesn't deserve such a rating -- especially since the Times charges for a subscription!
Please fix and a kudo.
by onerep3d on 2019/01/06 19:28
The phone app does not have a switcher button like the tablet app does or if it is there, it is not included in the phone app instructions. With the tiny screen on a phone, this can cause a lot of frustration when your fingers are as large as mine. Kudo! At some point you added the ability to close the puzzle on one device (say a phone) and pick it up at the same place on another (say a tablet). This is extremely useful. While I prefer to do the puzzle on my tablet (see above note) I cannot have it with me all the time, but I can carry my phone. So, Kudos for that. All my best.
Beat the Boredom
by Mary the Flirt on 2018/10/13 16:49
I love the NYT Crossword Puzzles. I pull them up on my phone whenever I’m standing in line, waiting in a parked car, waiting at a doctor’s office, or any number of occasions. Today, I’m stuck at home due to illness. The puzzles are a comfort and keep my mind busy. I can do them sitting, standing, or lying down. I’m never bored when I’m working on a puzzle. Thank goodness for being able to check the puzzle for correctness, especially on the harder days, like Thursday-Saturday. That feature cuts down on frustration. I highly recommend them.
A great approach to crosswords
by Casinopete on 2019/03/27 15:25
The NY Times crosswords are great for all skill levels. Monday’s puzzle is fairly easy, but fun. Each day after that are progressively more difficult until Saturday which, for me, is nearly impossible. The Sunday puzzle is tough but achievable. The challenge for me is to complete several puzzles in a row without any help. The only small complaint I have is occasionally they have hidden clues where letters or words are hinted at (not a fan.) But the bottom line is I love the Times puzzles and highly recommend subscribing.
iOS 12 Shortcut/Solve Daily Mini not Consistent
by Lady.CF on 2018/12/08 19:32
ETA: Typical developer response: doesn’t know their own app and the features they’ve added. Do your homework and you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. Your app is still 1-star! Months before iOS 12 released the ability for us to create a shortcut to solve the daily Mini, I provided feedback saying that each time I open the app and click the current days daily Mini puzzle, the app opens the previous day’s daily Mini puzzle that was solved (with the answers already filled in) from the day before. After I’ve now created an iOS 12 shortcut to automatically open and for me to solve the daily Mini, guess what is happening still? You guessed it: THE APP IS OPENING THE PREVIOUS DAY’S PUZZLE THAT WAS ALREADY SOLVED THE DAY BEFORE! So the shortcut is in fact useless. In my original feedback, I recommended that a refresh button be implemented on the puzzle’s main interface so users can quickly refresh the puzzle screen to update with new puzzles. Nothing was done and the problem still persisted, so much so that even now creating a shortcut is resulting in the same issue.
A fun way to do crosswords
by MinnesotaBirder on 2018/01/02 14:08
This app is motivating me to improve my crossword skills, by keeping track of streaks and comparing each daily time to my average. I also like having access to the archive of old crosswords for more practice. You have the option to “cheat” if you get frustrated, but then solving the puzzle won’t count toward your streak or stats. It takes a little getting used to in terms of navigating the puzzle, but after that it actually seems more efficient than filling in a paper/pencil puzzle.
Great library and interface, but problems with Smart Keyboard on iPad Pro
by Adhoceddie on 2018/11/12 16:17
I really like the variety of games and the interface is very fast/slick. However, I’ve noticed that when using the iPad Pro Smart Keyboard, sometimes keystrokes are not recognized when the same letter is typed twice in a row. For example, if the answer to a clue is book, it will frequently fill in the squares as “bok” omitting the second ‘o’. I have to wait a few seconds after the first ‘o’ before the second one registers. It only happens when the letters are repeated. Otherwise, the app registers key presses very promptly.
A must have for crossword enthusiasts
by B & M 4 on 2018/10/12 11:39
I used to subscribe to the newspaper just to do the NYT crossword puzzles daily. Now I can do them on my device every day without the hassle of a newspaper. The app is well worth the monthly subscription fee. I can't imagine not having it now that I do. Plus, there is a plethora of archived puzzles to complete when you feel the urge to work a crossword. I work a puzzle a day! Cheaper than buying a paper just to do the crossword. Highly recommend purchasing this application!
Love it ... except
by CD Wyte on 2018/06/04 02:31
I’ve been doing NYT Crosswords since about 1967. That proves I'm hooked. I used them on my iPhone and as my hands and eyes needed it, I moved to a large iPad. That brought a problem. The Reveal Square is almost adjacent to Check Puzzle. Also, Reveal Square instantly acts upon the slightest touch. I have NEVER intentionally touched it, but I accidentally touch it in about one-third of the puzzles, destroying my stats and my pleasure. This never happened on the iPhone. I would rate this app 10 stars if this maddening feature were fixed. Allow me to turn off reveals or ask me if I really mean to reveal or put reveals on a separate menu. Please!

Times Crossword

Excellent!
by Carlopeto on 2019/09/11 04:07
I have tried other crossword apps.

Subscription is wildly overpriced

Pleasure
by Ferrbo on 2019/07/17 15:07
I’ve been doing the Times puzzle since I was eighteen!

Wish they would tell you the puzzle title in app
by Andrianaconda on 2019/06/30 10:38
Love this app, play all the time. My only critique would be that they should add the title of the puzzle under the puzzle info “i” where they tell you who edited the puzzle and such. I don’t always have internet access when I’m playing so I can’t always visit the webpage linked there.

by JBK727 on 2019/06/28 17:38
Since the evening of June 26, 2019, the NYT crossword puzzle on my iPad and iPhone has become inaccessible.

It’s a pain, and it doesn’t need to be. Please, NYTimes, provide easy access to the puzzle homepage on the Play page! Alternatively, give the app a new tab just for accessing other puzzles. It would make the app so much better!
Great, But Annoying iPad Pro Bugs

Other than that i use this app the most out of all my apps, and i feel smart when i complete a puzzle.

by JBK727 on 2019/06/28 17:38
Since the evening of June 26, 2019, the NYT crossword puzzle on my iPad and iPhone has become inaccessible. JBK
Please!
