Updates are infuriating
by Bwv299792458 on 2019/05/25 01:57
Their frequent forced updates are super frustrating. At the moment I can't do anything with the app except check for updates. It's an endless loop!
Update Version 10.2 NOT Working
by djpost69 on 2019/05/24 04:25
I have no idea what was included in this update. However, since downloading the update, I cannot play anything from my iPod touch. Fix It ASAP!
Train wreck
by Freddygjhfh on 2019/05/24 02:45
This app is beyond impossible to use. With every update comes a slew of bugs. Pretty much every time I use this I have to set something up
Totally unreliable system
by Bahman1956 on 2019/05/23 22:56
Ever since I bought my Sonos speaker system for our small business office 4 years ago I’ve had ongoing connectivity problems using my iPhone. I have to reset the system every time I need to use it! If/when I finally get connected then the “TuneIn” has network connectivity issues and I cannot access my favorite stations. I don’t know why I have put up with such a poor quality product for all these years! Maybe the newer ones are better?
Sometimes Frustrated
by cow59669 on 2019/05/23 12:38
Sonos works well most of the time. Other times only about 30 seconds of a song plays and then moves to the next song. Other times we can’t play sonos in some rooms. No pattern
Renaming
by tommy o33 on 2019/05/22 13:26
Try renaming and switching your speakers to different rooms!! Other than that, awesome sound!

by TinyKookie on 2019/05/22 01:03

Please add overcast support!
by BoristheBird on 2019/05/22 00:06
Lots of podcast app support but no Overcast app support — which I’m very committed to. Please add support for this as well, thanks!
Spotify issue

Please fix issue that disconnects Spotify after a short time playing. Happening since last upgrade
Last Version Broke Sonos
by Sjblucas on 2019/05/21 19:19
This used to work well, until the last update. Can’t play a thing. Please fix!
So glad I still have a Sonos remote
by Don't love app on 2019/05/21 01:31
Too many mandatory updates - often can’t turn music down or off. Have really come to hate what Sonos has become - great for occasional users with a couple of Sonos 1 speakers. Not the user that has 16+ zones. Kinda seems to be designed by recent users - hard to believe anyone at that company really uses the system in any meaningful way

Old iPads
by JC in SF on 2019/05/20 15:09
Disappointed... after years of having my whole house on Sonos and using a old iPad with all my music on it to control it. Very disappointed that the last update would not update my old iPad. Seems to me that using a old piece of equipment as a controller is a better use that land fill. Unfortunately, I updated my system with my iPhone so now my old iPad won’t even open the Sonos controller... VERY FRUSTRATING!
Worst designed app
by Skxunelwismdifiskjsd on 2019/05/19 23:12
I am a smart home technician and this is the most unstable app I have ever used. Airplay just does not work. It seems as if Sonos does not care about their app functionality anymore. Used to be a huge fan and proponent of sonos. Recently it has turned into a crap shoot
Love it
by Slvrmllt on 2019/05/19 22:34
OMG this is the best music app It works awesome and it is just An amazing way to spice up Sunday dinner I love this app It is super easy to set up to! I hope u try it!
Groups never stick
by JimmyJoeJimmyJoe on 2019/05/19 20:43
When i set a speaker group, that group should stay grouped until the end of time or until i ungroup the speakers manually. Power or internet outages should not affect a group. This has been an issue since day one of Sonos speakers. Look at Google and Amazon to see how they do their groups, they work.
Spotty performance
by a75643828k on 2019/05/19 19:38
Constantly cuts out when I try to play podcasts or Spotify. I usually give up and use my Bluetooth speaker.
Frustrating
by Artisttype on 2019/05/19 15:36
Every so often, the App won’t recognize half the speakers that I have on the system. I have no idea why this keeps happening. It seems like it’s extremely buggy compared to other comparable apps
Great sound, lousy software
by cantfindaname2332 on 2019/05/19 14:12
I’ve got 5 Sonos 1. The sound is great. The software is TERRIBLE. When I got my first Sonos I found out that it was impossible to play the tracks stored on my iPhone XR. A track would play and then stop for no rhyme or reason, and a new track would start, so on and so forth. But not to worry, I could play my iCloud-stored music (via Apple Music) or play Apple Music radio stations without a problem UNTIL... the most recent update (May 18, 2019), now I can play a few tracks and then the music will stop playing. The same thing happens whether I play from Amazon Music or Spotify.
Unusable
by sanford sanford on 2019/05/19 10:28
This app won’t function because it keeps looking for an update but repeatedly fails to download the update.
Garbage Time
by Matt-CG on 2019/05/19 05:07
The speakers themselves may be great but the app, which you are forced to use, is total and complete garbage. If you force users to use your app make it somewhat useful. The app is full of bugs. For example, on the final screen to connect the speakers, the button to connect would not work. Save yourself a trip back to BestBuy by steering clear of Sonos. Lots of better choices out there.

by Makoppa 1 on 2019/05/18 21:44
Good luck setting it up my friends ! Especially when your router goes and you have to install a new router ! Hahahahahaha it was AN OBSCENE GIGANTIC WASTE OF $700.00 ! So they attempted to rectify their horrible system and sent me directions to help ! Hahahahaha the entire email were double printed !! Hahahahaha two lines written over one another ! Hahahahaha this is becoming such a joke I am considering a YouTube video to inform the world what a “wonderful” system this is ! A stand-up comedy show would be a cheaper option to get some laughs though ! Hahahahaha
Extremely unreliable and buggy
by stuwest1029384756 on 2019/05/18 17:14
Continually disconnects/drops out while I'm listening to music, sometimes doesn't work at all. Sometimes I need to log in an set up speakers again after they disappear. Just extremely buggy and unreliable and incredibly frustrating. Steer clear of Sonos
Can’t connect to my music library
by Brookhavenatl on 2019/05/18 16:20
Speakers sounded good but the app wouldn’t connect to my music library. Returned to the store.
Incompatible with AppleTV!
by cydhjk on 2019/05/18 14:52
Do not waste your money investing in a Sonos audio system if you plan to use the Apple Tunes app to stream to Sonos speakers and also have AppleTV. The Sonos app and AppleTV conflict when sharing the same network. The result is abrupt interruptions of songs midway through. I have called Sonos tech support. And although they are polite, they report that this is a known problem for which they have no estimated fix date. It is horribly frustrating, especially given the amount of money that I’ve invested in multiple speakers throughout the house. Save your money and invest in an audio system other than Sonos!
So buggy
by MJp in AL on 2019/05/18 00:51
I hate the Sonos ecosystem and wish I wasn’t invested in it. The speakers sound great but the usability with a phone makes them worthless in the age of streaming from phones. Interface with iPhone is garbage. I listen to music from my phone and from Spotify. Playback from phone (iPhone XR) is super buggy. It will pause mid-song and because buffering problems. Now, with the latest software update (May 2019I can’t even pause music from my phone. Terrible.
Doesn’t work often enough
by yewsvji on 2019/05/17 18:38
It’s a great system when it’s working but there seems to be enough times that it has trouble connecting to the internet or rooms in the house drop off. For a system this expensive it should work 99% of the time in my opinion
Your Spirit.

“It’s the Bees Knees.”! Sonos Rocks! Because Doctors are now saying; “ that Singing and Dancing are true Therapies for your health and or recovery from something!!! Go Figure! So go to Sonos and play those songs that really touch your soul. Sing And Dance around. Twirl, if you may☀️
Love the product but
by Cr081 on 2019/05/17 15:21
Love this product and my entire Sonos system however why does the “channel selection” keep reappearing and disappearing from time to time? I can’t ever change the channel without having to open up a support ticket or submit a diagnostic.
Removed lock screen control
by Jasonn_ on 2019/05/17 12:50
The latest update removed the lock screen control. Why would the developers take away one of the most convenient features of the app.
Love Sonos, but app used to be better. Too many updates that often don’t load properly
by ohiodoug on 2019/05/17 10:56
I love my Sonos system. The app works fine, but I feel the newer versions are not as easy to navigate as older ones.

by hsujun on 2019/05/17 04:00

Last update broken
by Dietcokenoice on 2019/05/17 01:14
Since the last update (which Sonos forced me to make), Spotify keeps dropping after a few minutes. Music keeps playing but my Spotify app (both on PC and iOS) loses the speakers. Better testing before releases please.
Slow and Clicky
by MR SD ME on 2019/05/17 00:52
I hope the next update slows the app down even more that it has been slow down already. And I really like heading play like 2 to 3 to 4 times to get something to play that’s really nice
User Interface
by canoe8 on 2019/05/17 00:14
I don’t know where all the 5-stars are coming from, but the user interface on this app is absolute garbage. It seems as though no thought was put into a design that would work while people are using it. Not sure if the developers even use it, but at this point let’s just chalk it up to laziness.
Too many updates
by Buns bunny on 2019/05/16 16:57
The system works really great until it stops working because it requires an upgrade in the app. I feel like the upgrades help them sort through my information as it doesnt work any better for me aferwards. 20% of the times a room in the system stops showing up due to the wifi airwaves.
Sometimes difficult to reconnect to new routers.
by whossat on 2019/05/16 16:33
I’ve had to pay an electrician twice to come out and reconnect once our router has been changed by our Internet provider. Calling Sonos does no good since they’ve become so busy that calls are diverted to Costa Rica.
Change Directions
by GrubbySheep on 2019/05/16 14:59
I’m not a fan of the direction Sonos is headed. The app used to just work. Now, it drops speakers randomly. Requires me to update the app when things are already working. Asks for my login, which means I need internet connectivity. I just want to play my music. Stop this stupid stuff and just work.
iPad app has evolved my listening experience
by pydnar on 2019/05/16 14:20
In love with the UI on the iPad. It’s clean, crisp and refreshing to be able to build your queue alongside the current song, whereas on mobile it requires an additional one, two or more clicks.
Sonos used to be the coolest tech I owned
by kidcosmo on 2019/05/16 09:45
With each update, my Sonos experience seems to get worse. The last several updates has caused me to factory reset most of my speakers and now songs stop halfway through their runtime. That's a lot of hassle for such expensive equipment.
Not so great!
by Sonos.no on 2019/05/16 04:34
Music just stops and you have to reconnect the Sonos to the WiFi even when you are in the same room with the source of the signal and forget about your songs on iTunes they play about 15 seconds and just stop. Very disappointing performance. If I would have known I would have just bought a Bluetooth speaker instead.
Compatibility Issues
by pwierenga on 2019/05/16 03:00
Will not work with many NAS systems like Freenas who has kept up with security standards. Used Sonos for years with Freenas NAS. But Sonos has not kept up. Can no longer connect. Very Disappointing
When it works it’s great.
by Mattwignall on 2019/05/15 23:20
Literally every couple weeks the whole system disconnects itself. Yesterday I was listening to Spotify through the speakers and enjoying life. Today they don’t show up. I hate that this always happens. I have fiber optic internet, all new Mac everything, sonos speakers up to date. Confirms my theory that most tech is just half baked because they know we’ll buy it. At least my record player works all the time.
Won’t update
by Zoomn II on 2019/05/15 23:15
Long time user and like the app....when it works. The last few updates won’t complete and I can’t get back to the ‘home’ page without the update. So, I have been forced to delete and re-install every time an update comes out.

Connects to apps only half the time
by JShow2013 on 2019/05/15 16:31
Has an especially inconsistent time connecting to SiriusXM. If it’s not connecting to SiriusXM then chances are it won’t let you connect to Pandora, SoundCloud, etc.
Stop forcing updates- let them occur on our time, not yours
by Fusiongrrl on 2019/05/15 15:29
We the user, should choose when to update. Otherwise your timing disrupts my day as my phone us the only way I can turn off the system when leaving the house.

by AEH NJ on 2019/05/15 09:50
Now that sonos can’t be controlled on the locked phone screen, it’s a pain to pause, skip, turn volume down, etc... we find we don’t use it hardly ever. We use Alexa way more- and I can’t figure out how to integrate our sonos with Alexa. Wish it was easier to use.
Updates make this terrible
by pooiuyytgh on 2019/05/15 04:35
I have to go around to every sonos speaker in the house regardless of reach and power it off and turn back on it’s a 30 minute process every time I update the software and the software updates are forced after a certain time.
App Needs Upgrade
by Weather (or not!) on 2019/05/15 04:28
Long time user...very happy with sound and reliability. TruePlay is a remarkable feature. With all the tech behind the system, however, I find the simple bass and treble sliders lacking in fine tuning different genres. A 3-5 band eq would be a welcome addition rather than focusing so much R&D on voice interaction with the system. Yes, I’m old and don’t see the attraction in talking to inanimate objects unless they’re golf clubs. Still a big fan.

CONSTANT ISSUE
by a11e1sefai1s on 2019/05/15 01:01
Every time there is an update, it never works and I have to turn every speaker off multiple times and back on. This system is the worst for updating. Also the speakers take forever to register on the app even when there is sound coming out from the speakers. My system is not even a year old.
Great hardware. Terrible software.
by friend of the brand on 2019/05/14 23:51
I love Sonos when it works, which isn’t enough of the time. Hard to understand why the ux is so bad when the engineering of the physical product is so good.

Why you pushing update to the application, if it does not work with the iOS version customer has installed?
Sonos

I have 4 speakers now for about a month. VERY SKETCHY PERFORMANCE. Alexa always seems to be confused. And I have had to reinstall several times. My internet is fine. My smart TVs work great I would not recommend the Sonos Alexa system to anyone
Inconsistent hook up
by Blumz on 2019/05/14 15:59

Music Freq!
by Sound Hound-dog on 2019/05/14 03:30
This has to be the most significant development for music lovers since sliced bread! To be at a gathering with any number of individuals, each connected to sonos and able to que up their favorite song and even control (turn down the music to say... I don’t know, make an announcement) at random is not only genius, it’s extremely helpful! It's a juke box at hand for everyone in proximity to share. Simply GENIUS!! I can't wait to see what's to come of future developments. Thanks a million for such a creative application!! Now... let’s address the sound! Wow! I can’t believe the amazing audio system I have in my home now. When I thought Bose had it wrapped up outcomes Sonos and steals the show. The highs are crisp and lows boom!! There’s no shortage craftiness between the two either! Just tremendous sound that envelopes every corner of my home. I’m truly in love with the ease of use, adaptability of new additions, and the amazing ability to sample other Sonos speakers in my home and tune them all at once as if there we’re a sound tech in the airwaves orchestrating it all to perfection!! Can’t say enough about the total package! And THANK YOU just wouldn’t do so, THANK YOU - THANK YOU - THANK YOU!!!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 😎
Unsatisfactory sound
by hal-r on 2019/05/14 00:12
Sound drifts in and out to the 5 speaker and then it just stops working. From my iPad I am unable to control the sound. iPhone access won’t work at all. All you get is the music symbol and it won’t come off. Tried unplugging the bridge the individual speakers, as well as the wireless router. I am just frustrated with the Sonos system.
Best WiFi Music System
by Colliqz on 2019/05/13 18:22
I purchased this system over 10 years ago and it is by far the music best system for your money. The WiFi capabilities and music choices have exceeded anything I have ever experienced the system is versatile and can be network inside and outside your home, and the quality of sound is exceptional.

Sounds good, doesn’t connect to app
by The Original Squidzit on 2019/05/12 20:48
Speaker sounds good, but most of the time the app does not recognize that there is a speaker present. I have to reset the whole thing to connect it again. For the price this should work much better. I only gave it two stars because the speaker sounds so good.

Amazing system
by eyedude92 on 2019/05/12 19:30
Sonos is the system I put in my new bay home and it is amazing. I have always had class a circuitry hi fi systems over the years from turntables, cassettes, eight tracks and cds. I never could have imagined I could play any song in the universe in any room of the house and actually have a different song playing in every room of the house and control it from my cell phone. This system is by far the best I have had and so easy to use and I run it thru some ceiling speakers with sub woofers throughout the house. I highly recommend Sonos to everyone. Dr Michael Lange

Faulty app with lots of bugs
by bas63542 on 2019/05/12 15:08
I have had Sonos for over a year and deeply regret investing money into this system. While the speakers sound great the app is horrible. It is filled with bugs that skip song and only play parts of other songs before moving on. It doesn’t recognize all the music I have on my phone so many albums are unplayable even though I purchased them from the apple store. I have tried deleting the app and reinstalling many times but it doesn’t help. I have waited for a year to review this app hoping the developers would get their act together and fix these bugs but none of the updates seem to help.
Songs cut out
by alex475736 on 2019/05/12 14:57

by euadela on 2019/05/12 14:07
Guys. You need to do something about it. The connection to our sonos speakers drops all the time. We have a large place and our internet is not too strong but you it is a good internet. Nevertheless it drops all the time. Please find a way to reinforce.
No more playing music from my phone
by m3mom on 2019/05/12 13:45

Incessant updates
by W9TR on 2019/05/12 13:08
I have a Sonos Playbar, two Sonos Connects, a Play 3, a Connect Amp, and two CR 200 controllers. So I am pretty invested in the Sonos ecosystem. I just wish that Sonos was invested in the customer experience as I am invested in their offerings. After the last update, my iOS 9.x iPad no longer works. Sonos decided to deprecate older iOS devices that were working perfectly before the update. It would have been good to better advertise the downside- but that’s water over the bridge. I’m sure the CR 200’s will be next. Does the system work well? Yes, absolutely. The Playbar after Trueplay tuning sounds big and beautiful with very clear vocals that are critical for a great movie experience. The app is easy to use and fairly intuitive. Integration with streaming music services is quite good. The Sonos forums are filled with nasty trolls who believe great Sonos is the penultimate digital music system and won’t tolerate and criticism or a view that there are better sounding systems out there. So good luck with that, Sonos has done nothing to reign them in. That said, they are helpful if you run into trouble with your setup.
Wish it were more reliable
by Fdc3 on 2019/05/12 03:51
The speakers are great. The app is great. However, I regularly have problems with the connection with my speakers in my small Cape Cod. I have accessed online and phone support several times, but the problem, although improved, does not go away. I just cannot buy or highly recommend this product. Many years later I bought a One. Big mistake. It doesn’t work more than it does. I travel a lot and have had it for several months. Great when it works, worthless when it doesn’t. I have had it with Customer Service/App Support/Twitter Support. The Twitter channel for support is a level of hell you should avoid. Dante could not have imagined greater torment. My guess Sonos will be ought of business soon. The customer service death-spiral is a telltale sign.

Sonos - all your music at your fingertips
by Northville Steve on 2019/05/12 01:16
After a long day, getting to my rejuvenating music quick and easy on the Sonos App is a snap - take a deep breath and buy Sonos - you’ll be very happy you did. - Oh and the sound quality is excellent - and NO distortion when you need to turn it up loud! It’s also nice when I go from my basement surround sound with a subwoofer to upstairs in my living room to my Play3 and hear the same song without missing a beat🎼.
Sonos Update feedback
by Club 5280 on 2019/05/11 23:07
My sonos app frequently will not connect to the system now that the company has updated the software. I previously never had this problem. I used to love my sonos system. Not so much since the new software. The software update also lost all of my favorite net radio stations. Im starting over with my favorites. Not cool.

Love Sono’s! Only sound system I’ll ever own again. So easy to add on to and use. Can’t say enough about how wonderful the system has been. Use it everyday. Thank you Sono’s for making such a user friendly system that sounds great!!!
Speaker issues
by Bobbyriz on 2019/05/09 19:25
On many occasions one of my speakers just to be re-connected to the network. This happens at least 3 or 4 times a week. I don't think it's a Wi-Fi issue because I have no other issues with other devices my current configuration is I have Sonos 1 speakers set up in stereo in a singleAnd Sonos five in another room

I don’t know if it’s Sonos or my Wi-Fi but Spotify often stops and we’re unable to properly re-started where is Pandora has no issues
Music streaming and more
by Fogey Mike on 2017/09/18 03:38
I am an acoustic fogey: I like my mostly old CDs, and was devastated when Sony discontinued their carousel CD storage players. I wanted to be able to access my own CDs and play them in any order or combination. I wanted at least CD quality sound, and better if I could get it. I heard about Sonos from a stereo store salesman and bought the equipment necessary to play music through my stereo system. The streaming function works well enough, but storing and playing my own CDs took a large effort, involving ripping all my CDs to an external hard drive and encouraging my home wifi network to recognize that hard drive. Sonos tech support was greatly helpful in this, and I think they are the best tech support people I've ever encountered. The personal time it has taken to rip over 500 CDs is, however, substantial and painful. Yes, I know there is at least one commercial outfit that will do it for you, but the price is out of reach for me. I now have completed this task, and it works. It actually works pretty well. The Sonos system includes an indexing program, which works OK, but is maybe a little clunky. Genre classification is iffy. I needed a while to learn the ripping software, and I'm not sure I've really got it down a hundred percent, but it works. Old CDs can be problematic, in that they did not/do not have the identifiers which more recent ones have, and which indexing programs mostly rely on. I have only good things to say about Sonos overall.
Work around for 9.0?
by Velolion57 on 2018/09/01 16:59
I’ve been a Sonos user since very early on. I have two Play:1 speakers that I use as a stereo pair. I was very disappointed when the v9.0 update, which apparently enabled Air Play on the One (plus other current models), disabled the home screen controls for those of us using the legacy speakers. I’ve also experienced the same as others where the last ~20 seconds of each track would be cut off when I was playing from a locked iOS device. I keep nearly all my audio on my iPhone & iPad and generally play straight from those devices’ libraries instead of from my Mac, as the latter spends most of its time in sleep mode. Surprisingly I just accidentally got the lock screen controls re-enabled and the end-of-track cutoff seems to have gone away. For some reason one of my speakers dropped off the system and I couldn’t get it to reconnect, so I did a full-on controller reset on my iPhone. I also unplugged both speakers and then basically set my system back up, as if it was new. No idea why, but like I said this has caused the end-of-track dropout to go away and my lock screen controls to come back (even though Sonos says explicitly in their release notes that this function has gone away for those without Air Play compatible speakers). Very weird, but now my system’s back to how I’ve used and loved it for the past 6-7 years and it’s great! Hopefully some others might try this and have some luck getting full functionality back.
Slick kludge (not anymore)
by BlingClosby on 2018/01/30 08:25
Update: Changed my rating from 2 stars for v. 8 to 4 stars for v. 8.3.1. Especially impressed by your response to user feedback. There is zero chance of my buying a HomePod or whatever it’s called now. Archive this: Disappointing update people. I cannot understand how you’re getting 5 star reviews from anyone who’s used the controller for any length of time. First, and forgetting the UI’s appearance for a second, the move to privilege songs over albums is misguided. Choosing an album now gives me a mountain of icons for individual songs to choose from that album. It’s unclear how to just play an album or add an album to the queue with one click or a hard press as in prior versions. Also, the Rooms navigation is awful. There used to be immediate access at the top of the screen to individual rooms. Navigating to the list now, even with the button on the bottom is aggravating. It should always be available on screen. You have complicated the controller in many ways under the guise of simplifying the look of the interface. The interface is cleaner, yes, and I don’t mind the white as others do. What bugs me is that the cleanliness of the look destroyed the ease of use that was there up to now. I don’t want to fumble around relearning how to use the controller effectively. I just want to listen to music quickly and easily. I especially want to be able to play albums quickly and easily. Looking forward to version 9.
New beginnings with the Beam
by Vettagozo on 2019/02/13 02:55
Okay... we had a 10 year old Sony 46” Bravia TV and Bose Acoustimass 15 home theater speakers run through a Sony amp. So we decided to move up to a LG 65” c8 television. Love it, but that’s another review. The Bose was great for music but was always problematic trying to get it working properly for surround sound. The Sony and Bose never really jived with each other. So as a result we seldom used it. Anyway, friends told me about Sonos speakers and since we had the new TV I decided to purchase the Beam sound bar, the sub woofer and two play 1 speakers to make a surround system for the new LG. Man it sounds great. We are very please with the system and the ease of setup and use. It is pricey when it comes to the sub woofer. However the sub really completes the system so I would say if you can swing it $$$, go for it. We chose the Beam over the larger Sonos sound bar because the Beam has a HDMI hook up with “ARC” and Alexa built in if that’s important to you. I just didn’t want a optical connection that the bigger Sonos bar only comes with. However I would guess the larger sound bar probably sounds better.??? However don’t let the size of the Sonos Beam fool you, it's impressive. Anyway I can’t wait to add more speakers to our house later on. Very satisfied customer.
Disappointed
by SMH931 on 2018/08/12 18:49
It’s a shame when you haven’t even had the chance to use the speaker and your already having problems. It just so happens that Sonos doesn’t have tech support available on the weekends to assist when the average human is needing it. I’m disappointed at the fact that I thought it would be a nice touch to bring the speaker to a bridal shower at a friends house for entertainment purposes. Connected it to the WiFi at her house, finally got everything setup and then couldn’t even use it because the speaker couldn’t just link to pandora without having my password. I couldn’t remember it to save my life. So I get it home the next day, and try to re-setup the speaker on the network in my house, thinking that this wouldn’t be so difficult according to the instruction video in the app/controller. I’ve unplugged the speaker, the router, plugged the Ethernet cable into a wireless router and the Internet box directly from the ISP, and nothing will work to have the speaker setup on my own network. The app/Controller instructs you to plug the Ethernet cable up and then wait for the mysterious green light that never comes on or to go to advanced settings which doesn’t appear anywhere in the app, or my personal favorite when the app tells you to select the SONOS wireless network that doesn’t appear. So lesson learned don’t take your Sonos anywhere and set it up unless you plan to leave it there!!! Because you won’t be able to set it up anywhere else!!!
App Needs More Features
by bevyb2000 on 2019/04/05 02:34
I love the sound I get from my speakers, but the review isn’t really about the speakers. It’s about the app, which needs some work. The ability to access multiple audio sources is great. What it is missing though are the small details that make the apps from those services it is drawing from a better option almost every time. For instance, the Pandora app lets you view songs that have already played - so, if you were away from the device and heard a new song and want to know more about it, you could check later to see what it was. With the Sonos app, if you don’t check while the song is playing you will never know. With the Books from Audible, it’s great that you can play it in multiple rooms but losing the ability to speed up the playback means I won’t use that service here. The same (or worse) with Apple podcasts. The only way to access them is via the On This Phone option. Unfortunately, it doesn’t tap into the organization that the iPhone uses and just puts everything out there in a mess so if you have multiple episodes to listen to, it’s just a huge mess. This also needs the speed up option that the regular podcast apps offer. Again, I love my speakers and the music I play on them sounds amazing. However, I really hope the app gets some good upgrades soon.
Unexpected Dissatisfaction
by hernahhhhluvsbagels on 2018/12/16 21:31
My family has been a frequent costumer of Sonos, with over 5 speakers all over our house in a variety of sizes. For the past 6 years since we’ve gotten our first speaker, the sound bar, we have been very pleased with our (expensive, yet) great quality speakers. They will cut out every now and then, most noticeable during movies, but that was only a slight annoyance compared to what we are dealing with now. Perhaps it is part of a new update (we have the latest version, so the app being outdated should not be an issue), or simply the app crashing, meaning it will be back up and running within a week hopefully. But, since this morning, Sonos has let us down. An overall irritation, disappointment, and not what we paid for! The speakers (rooms) have been unable to group, and some speakers are silent, despite the loud volume it is set on (they are also all plugged in). We could select a song or artist or radio to play, but the speaker will simply not react whatsoever. Being a loyal patron of Sonos, my family and I are frustrated and hope this issue is resolved quickly, especially with the holidays. But to those interested in purchasing one or more Sonos speakers, they have overall been a great investment for our family. We have been spoiled with these great speakers scattered around the house, making it so that when they suddenly fail to do what they are supposed to, it is especially aggravating.
Updated: I love Sonos. The app isn't perfect, but it's acceptable.
by philkloose on 2018/05/11 15:24
Updated: I don't know that I'll ever love the new app design but they've definitely improved it since my last 2-star review. The Sonos experience as a whole is 5 stars. I love these devices, plain and simple. Original Review: I'm split on this review, obviously. It's tempting to defiantly throw up a 1-star review and walk away without explanation but that would be unfair to a product that really is a standout. I've been a Sonos evangelist for years and years. The system has always been rock solid and the app intuitive -- flawless hardware and software. That all changed with the latest major version of the app. It's so confounding to those of us that have loved this product for years. I don't care that it's white -- stupid quibble. People can get over that. But the actual interactions I have with it while trying to play music in different rooms never seem to get easier. I eventually get what I want but it's not before cursing the new app several times for tricking me into the wrong area. I want so badly for Sonos to acknowledge their error and revert to the older-style navigation. It would be an easy 5-star review from me again.
Updates frequently break the iPad app
by disappointed_reader on 2018/09/12 04:07
The latest one simply removed the ability to play anything anywhere. Awesome! Update: one of my favorite features is that Sonos can almost never process any command without restarting the app. And even more fun, the play/pause button is unreliable after it restarts. It may be playing but only offer “play,” or it may be paused and only offer “pause.” Leaving the house and want to turn off the music on the way out the door? Better sit down, maybe pour a drink. I left the music on all night recently because of this. I left convinced that it was off after at least a minute of toggling and waiting. Silly me. One must, I guess, use multiple devices to verify that a simple “pause” command was evaluated correctly. Another great feature is the frequency of updates. I wish the updates would fix the problems, but they only seem to compound them. The annoying update notification inevitably lists something I don’t care about and then breaks some basic functionality. Whom exactly are you catering to, Sonos? Your customers? Someone else? What gives? Great, now Sonos works with all this stuff I don’t have or even want, but can’t manage any single task without a complete restart. You are optimizing for the wrong priorities. Take care of your customers or we will leave and never come back.
Great When It Works
by nickrTN on 2018/07/23 21:31
We put Sonos in our new construction home three years ago, and while the concept is fantastic, we’ve had several issues in the three years since it’s installation. The two most frustrating issues have been: 1) It does not sync perfectly with the music library on the device from which you’re operating it from; for example, I tend to use my iPad Pro with my ENTIRE music library on the device in iTunes, yet there are several songs that cannot be found through the Sonos app, and after spending several hours and multiple calls to Sonos tech support they blame iTunes and threw their hands up. The music is clearly on my device yet the Sonos app can’t “see” all of the music “on this device”, very frustrating! 2) Often when we go to use the Sonos app on any of our devices (2 iPhones and 1 iPad) it cannot connect to the network and will not come up on the device, suggesting that you reboot the router. This is a hassle and inconvenience, and it happens about 50% of the time. Overall, love the concept and it’s great WHEN it works, but it’s quirks and functionality have made me question whether it was truly worth the investment we made when there are so many Bluetooth devices and streaming services available on the market.
Used to be great but not anymore
by Scooter 82 on 2018/07/26 20:59
The Sonos system used to be great but the latest updates have totally screwed my system. Although my ZP100 is wired, streaming radio drops out all the time when it never did before. The volume sometimes goes to zero, no input required. I haven’t been able to access the music library on my home server for years even though every other system in my house can access it. And now they’re going to disable the Sonos remote that I own because apparently they own it. I was a Sonos fan from the beginning but no more. Update: Sonos has lost their way. With each successive release of the software more features are removed. I used to be able to see Sonos on my lock screen and adjust the volume. No more. (Yes I’ve seen the remarks about having other audio programs open which I closed although I didn’t have to do this before.) I used to be able to open the app and adjust the volume with the hardware buttons but now they’re stupid buttons and need to be pressed multiple times before they recognize they’ve been pressed. Changing rooms, overly complicated now. If you’re on the fence about buying a Sonos system I recommend that you don’t do it. What was once the best sound system available, bar none, is now an also ran due to the way they’ve crippled their app and forced you off the physical remote which still worked perfectly.
So far very impressed
by Sky walker929 on 2019/02/11 01:06
So far I’m very impressed with the capability of the app itself. The Sonos Playbar I bought is a dream when listening to music and watching movies. The app itself is limited but I can totally get by with what it offers for the time being. I mostly use Apple Music, Pandora and Soundcloud. So it’s kinda weird but they are apps within an app. It’s confusing to describe but it feels like second nature when navigating thru the app. Best part is while I’m playing music on the Playbar I can still watch videos on my phone so not to disrupt anyone else listening to music. I usually pop in my AirPods and watch a quick video on FB or FaceTime and the music still plays. This is probably my favorite feature. I have no regrets and I’m sure it only gets better from here. By the way the sound quality is absurdly wonderful. I hear things I usually don’t ever hear on just about anything else. I have an open concept living room and it fills the entire room effortlessly! I must purchase the subwoofer to complete the ensemble but I have to recover from the grip I just let go of on the Playbar but it is definitely in the near future!
Upgrade is horrible
by Superjox on 2017/11/19 12:29
The Sonos system is fantastic and the speakers high quality. I have owned them from the beginning and have 7 speakers and 3 amps and constantly telling my friends to get Sonos. HOWEVER; the app has always been somewhat of an issues. For year the community has been asking for a better volume adjustment that is more precise yet we never got it - check online message boards. It was a pleading request but on deaf ears. The latest upgrade is another example of the software side of the house not understanding their users desire for simplicity. I’m sure there is a lot of complexity behind the scenes that make it all work but there is tremendous value in making that invisible to the user. The new upgrade is not intuitive at all and has lost its ease of use. It’s a shame that I have to use the app to control what is otherwise a great sound system. On top of the poor user experience in the app there is no Apple Watch version. I am using a 3rd party called Zone Play to operate my speakers in my watch. It works but why isn’t there a simple version for watch 2 years after its intro. I always thought Apple should have bought this company but now with Home Pod coming out soon I guess it’s only wishful thinking. Sonos leadership needs to hear their most ardent supporters and fix this app and the way we operate out substantial investment
Clean and simple but a little unstable
by Marghana on 2018/08/18 02:02
While the Sonos speakers themselves sound good for what they are, that quality was the second priority behind my purchase. The value in Sonos lies in the app and the SonosNet that the speakers create and cast. The system is remarkably convenient and has allowed to me enhance and rejuvenate a very good but aging setup. On this aspect alone I would contribute five stars. The rub, however, is in the application. While, for the most part, the app/SonosNet interface and communication work well, there are irritating moments of dysfunction. The problem that I most often encounter is that the app will fail to communicate with the speakers for intermittent periods of time during which I cannot remotely control the components of my system. Less often, but proportionally more irritating, is when the sound from my Sonos Connect (which I use to port my home theatre into the SonosNet) will drop out repeatedly during a Netflix binge. This usually coincides with the previous problem and the two together constitute a significant disruption to the system’s functionality. While the app works well and (for the most part) easily, small but significant interludes of instability lead me to lower my rating alongside my satisfaction.
Wish I'd started years sooner
by BonusDad on 2018/07/25 01:41
UPDATE after July software update Very buggy, lose a star. I wouldn’t have made these changes prepping for an IPO. Taking the controls off the lock screen has ruined the user experience. Enabling in Settings doesn’t work. Half the time volume controls don’t even work when the app is active. So many more taps to make basic functions work. These reviews tend to be hyperbolic but I’m not exaggerating. Really. I’m not. I’m calm. Again. I've become a huge Sonos fan and wish I'd tried out the system years instead of mere months ago. I've dispersed four Play:1s around the house and have a Soundbar for home theater surround minus a Sub (so far). I've had zero of the problems I see in other reviews. The software is Apple quality and while not audiophile caliber the hardware is the best digital reproduction I've heard. I wish I could control the volume on my locked phone from the phone volume buttons as I can with the Apple music app, and I wish the rest of the album/playlist would play when I start with a song in the middle. Other than that, I'm totally satisfied.
If you're not happy with Sonos - Call Support - Free & US based
by Dishaddicted on 2017/11/27 20:38
Pros: We have had Sonos for over two years. We have 13 speakers throughout our house. It is the best thing ever! Recommend it to all my friends and usually have them come over to hear the system. For those of you having connection & disconnect problems please call their US-based technical support team FOR FREE! They are incredible! They will spend as much time as necessary to get your system up and running properly including running remote diagnostics. I wish other companies had such wonderful support for their products. I understand they have FREE lifetime telephone support as long as you own their product. How great is that? Cons: Sonos keeps changing their apps. It used to be so simple and wonderful to use. Then they came out with their new version of the app which is so much more complicated and harder to find where certain menus are located. I don't understand why they have to keep relocating menus....leave well enough alone! You had a great app and menus were very easy to find. (I still highly recommend the product!)
AirPlay 2 failure is a dealbreaker.
by Among The Cows on 2018/08/28 21:03
I want to love my Sonos system, I really do. Unfortunately, the inability to use AirPlay 2 as intended (initiate listening session and control all aspects of playback, discovery, library manipulation etc from the individual native apps or, more importantly, assign playback location directly from iOS Control Center instead of through the slightly lacking Sonos app) is frustrating. Tried everything including a two hour “support” session with Sonos. Nothing but an admission that AirPlay is “hard to implement AND yet maintain control over the data”. I know it’s getting old to complain about but the insatiable business model focused more on how to monetize users and user’s data than simply developing a good product is getting ridiculous and it’s preventing consumers from getting what they expect and pay for. AirPlay 2 support for Airport Express is going to really hurt Sonos if they don't get this figured out quick! I just dusted off a few I had laying about. Saved me $600 (and lost Sonos the sales) since I already have good “dumb” speakers. My advice to Sonos: worry less about trying to make speakers “smart” and worry more about putting audio playback in its modern form (read:digital/streaming) first!
Fantastic product, lousy UX
by ZJazzPa on 2018/01/30 10:52
I hate to agree with another reviewer that criticized the latest update, but as a professional app developer, even I struggle with he new updated app. I have eleven Sonos products throughout my house and have been using it so long that several of my products are now obsolete. And until the controller was redesigned, I too have been a Sonos evangelist, telling anyone that would listen that they need to get rid of their stereo and get Sonos. The steps involved in performing the simplest operations now require travelling all over the app in ways that are highly non-intuitive. We have replaced our alarm clocks with Sonos units and it's a maze to turn off my daughter's alarm when school is delayed. After many, many years using the system, I now fumble and frequently put my music in the wrong room, lose queues, and struggle to get the tunes that I want. The product is great. I love having all of my music from a wide variety of sources in one place. I love being able to control music throughout my house, and yard, and workshop with one system. The sound quality is fantastic. But the new UI has to be rethought and re-redesigned.
First time Sonos buyer
by To being healthy on 2018/12/26 14:31
Let me start with the positive. The look, ease of use and the sound are all amazing. The bad. The Sonos speakers are big WiFi hogs. Had I read the reviews and Sonos users portal, I would not have purchased them. The speakers consistently drop out. All due to the WiFi network. I’ve been through three providers and the outcome is always the same. I’ve called Sonos and they work some magic, all works for about 15 minutes. Of course this is after I’ve hung up with support. The connectivity issue is all you find on the user portal. It is a major issue with Sonos, If you have more than on speaker. I have the surround setup and when it works, it is amazing. However the sub, play ones and occasionally the sound bar all drop off. If I had to guess, I’d say yesterday with all day Christmas music playing, the play ones and sub dropped off 10-15 times for 10-30 seconds. Sonos tells me the fix is a new router. Not the crappy ones you get with your internet provider. Thanks Sonos for the help. Once again had I known what I know now, I would have bought the Bose. It uses RF to link speakers and one speaker hooked to WiFi.
Use to be Amazing now it is Garbage.
by Apps for nick on 2018/12/15 17:58
I have thousands of dollars worth of Sonos equipment that has turned into pile of junk because now all of a sudden things don’t work the way they use to. App is constantly loosing connection. When you change songs there is a unbelievable amount of latency now. Many times songs don’t play. They will literally go bankrupt if they don’t fix this pronto. This is their bread and butter. I even bought the latest Sonos amp, I have two play:5s with Subwoofer. I have playbar and 2 Sonos 1 in 5.1 setup with sub. I have two Sonos play:1 in bedroom. I am panicking because I have several holiday parties scheduled at my house and I am completely dependent on Sonos system. I could easily play any music I wanted from any service and I bragged about Sonos a lot. Now I am going to have to eat my words and afraid my parties are going to be ruined. My home is laterally Sonos showroom and it is definitely going to do unrepairable damage to their reputation and ruin my holiday parties. Worst part is their customer support is non existent. I called in there was an over an hour wait. Now they are closed on weekend. They make y’all claims about 24/7 support don’t believe any of that. They ask you to post in their forums and hope someone like a power user replies.
Horrible app update for a great system
by Kirk K2013 on 2017/10/31 17:23
The usability of the latest app update is just terrible. It's hard to believe this was actually green-lighted by the Sonos product team. The new UX makes it very frustrating for long time customers to figure out how to use the system in a multi (5) speaker household. It's a pain to find/select favorites, switch between speakers, etc. Other reviews have already covered the main usability challenges so I won't rehash. I trust that the Sonos product/UX team is working hard to address these issues (hopefully putting ego aside). 2 stars only for now till these serious usability problems are fixed in a subsequent update. Good luck. Previous review from ~2 years ago: ----------------------------------- The Sonos app has been much improved over the past 6 months with the latest few updates, both in terms of usability and interaction design as well as in support of additional music sources. The Sonos system itself is top notch -- smooth, uninterrupted audio play with great sound.
Don’t buy a Sonos system
by Ponalau on 2017/12/31 02:42
I honestly wanted to love Sonos. I still love the idea of it. I would begin to love it if it actually worked. I have a total of 5 Sonos speakers, and they have been nothing but a pain. I shouldn’t say that, sometimes the system actually works perfectly, which only makes it even more infuriating when they quickly come out with an “update” or “improved feature” that will of course break the entire system once again. I’ve dealt with problems such as audio on my tv cutting out spontaneously over and over again, being unable to control volume from my TV remote, speakers disappearing from the system and unable to reconnect, unable to group rooms to play the same music, audio continuing to play from some other phantom device after it was turned off from the device that played the audio in the first place, error messages when connecting to music services, error in playback that sometimes just stops the audio, or sometimes crashes the app, and countless more little quirks and issues. When you realize that most of these problems wouldn’t exist if you just had regular speakers instead of “smart” speakers, you wonder why you spent so much money to be constantly frustrated.
Love Sonos...not Crazy about the app
by GTR4Dove on 2018/12/25 13:28
I have had Sonos since it was first introduced. Initial the App was easy to use and straight forward. With each update and added functionality it has gotten more confusing and less intuitive. My poor wife doesn’t even like using it anymore..... the app is packed with options, but for everyday use it is a pain. Unless you have something saved in your shortcuts, you have to rethink how to select and find music channels that I want. I consider myself somewhat technology literate and find myself pausing trying to figure out how to do things. For people who are confused easily by technology this app will drive you crazy. I know .... I hear from my wife all the time. I think Sonos needs to use the KISS methodology (keep it simple stupid ) and redesign this app and let the average person test it and not a bunch of engineers. I wish I could rate the Sonos speakers and system separately because I would give it five stars. The app needs to be easier to use for basic functionality for the technically challenge. If you make it easier to use....my wife might let me buy another speaker…
Good app, minor changes could make it great.
by Taaaaserfaaaaace on 2018/12/11 15:50
I like just about everything with this app except for two things. First, there is no way to quickly jump to the letter of the artists. You have to scroll all the way down the list. It's a very minor thing but really annoying when you have such a vast library to go through. Second, for whatever reason, when using Soundcloud you have to select each song to play. When the song is over, it plays a song from another music source such as apple music. When I play my "likes" list on Soundcloud it doesn't go song to song like the rest of the music sources. That is a HUGE pain. Other than those two things I don't really have an issue with the app. I don't like having to use a certain proprietary app to use the speaker but it isn't too bad. I prefer just connecting and using a music app as with other speakers. I'm guessing it has something to do with how the speakers are connected and how they "talk" to each other. I only have one speaker for now but plan to get more in the future.
How did we live without it

So with all of the technology i have brought through the house this is the only thing my wife has said "how did we live without it?" And she can control it with no issue. That means it is simple (very simple). This was recommended to me by family and when I actually heard it I was hooked. It is on constantly and I am ready to expand to other rooms. Expansion is extremely easy. Love it. I have others come to the house and wonder how I always have such a wide variety of music. Hey, I have all the music on earth. I have even installed it in a local business that I deal with. They love it for the ease of changing music without having to go to one location where the old system was, just pull out the phone and make a change. Need an expansion to a new area, drop in a SONOS. Want different music in different areas, light music on the floor, rock in the repair area, just a phone or pc app away. Need the music off in the classroom, out comes the phone. So easy, so versatile.
Speakers are great this update is infuriating
by Ter Jer on 2017/11/08 03:01
This update of the app is disappointing for three reasons. First the UI has changed making it more difficult to navigate through two rooms and the primary view for your playlists and favorites only shows a handful you need to click show all to see your entire lists. Second it seems to be performing less reliably than before. Rooms are dropped the last played audio is forgotten and groupings are frequently forgotten. Finally this app insists that you register a Sonos account in order to use all the features. This is absolutely ridiculous. It was working fine without a proprietary Sonos account before there is no new feature I need that should require a Sonos account. I do not want to sign up for another account on some other companies website that can be hacked or preached or used to harvest my personal information ways that I can’t control. I would much prefer that all the information at Sonos needs to be stored locally on either one of my controllers or on some of the hardware.
New version UI is poor. Used to be 5*
by Pctomfor on 2017/10/14 17:31
Revised 10/14 on new version. I hate the new layout. I do not find it intuitive and still struggle to figure out how to pick music to play in a particular room. Also, My favorites used to scroll vertically, making them easy to sort through as I could see many of them on the screen at the same time. Now they scroll horizontally and have huge icons, meaning I can only see one station at a time. This app used to be 5star worth and set it apart from the crowd. Original review: I seem to keep finding reasons to expand my system, it gets pretty addictive. I mostly use Pandora or other internet radio type stations. Streaming music to a speaker via Bluetooth is not the same! The speakers are more like today's smart TV's, with apps built in that run autonomously, the phone is just a remote control. Software navigation is incredibly easy and the speakers all sound amazing! I have a Play 1 in both my bedroom and home office, a Play 5 in my living room, a Playbar/Sub/Play1 surround system hooked to my Sony Bravia TV in the family room, and am waiting on a connect amp to arrive for my outdoor speakers. They can all play different stations, or group them together as needed during house parties.
Auto updates are a MISTAKE
by Kayakbabe yawls on 2018/12/16 20:26
Sonos discontinued the ability to use the first remote controller they made and sold without telling anyone. All customers lost the ability to use the very expensive controllers they purchased . There is a second generation controller they made which is fabulous and still works. People can visit my home and controller the music without having to let them into my wi-fi network. I have had more than enough viruses and such from letting people use my network in the past that I simply do not allow it anymore. So the ability to have a remote hardware control device is a godsend. I am super happy with it. In fact, I bought three of them. I am seriously careful about updates and the day Sonos decides to have the 2nd generation controller not be supported, will be the day I do not do anymore updates. SO.... auto update... is not for me. And the face that they are not listing exactly what is in the updates... well...that is just lazy. Since this system works over our home network with all our other devices and computers which we bank with and do other private things with... SONOS needs to tell us what is in these updates.
Update - working again
by FordFanUSA on 2018/02/09 18:48
Update - Developer responded quickly and recommended I call customer service. It’s difficult for me to call customer service during their posted hours so I performed a factory reset of all speakers and decided to “start over”. Took awhile to get the first couple connected, but eventually all are connected and have been working for a few days now. Original review- New to Sonos as of December 2017. Everything worked fine for a couple weeks and then the app was nearly useless with January update. The next upgrade helped some but still really inconsistent connection between my devices and Sonos network. Right now I have 3 controllers working but my iPhone will not connect, even after multiple restarts, app re-loads, etc. When this happened previously, Sonos support told me to resubmit a diagnostic even after having submitted, twice. No luck in resolving it. I really want this to work so I hope it’s user error, but I’m going on a month now with extremely inconsistent performance by the system.
Sonos makes their App more difficult to use with each update
by Free the Heels on 2019/02/04 03:54
I used to be a fan, however the latest revisions resulted in a non-intuitive, difficult-to-use app that frustrates me every time I open it. Many of the features present in the PC and Mac Interface are simply not available in the IPAD App. In both the PC and Mac Interface, one can no longer add Pandora Stations to the list of stations - they must go into “SONOS Favorites” instead. Context-sensitive features that used to be available via the “...” link on each page have now been moved to other non-intuitive parts of the tool, or have disappeared completely. Major podcasts with hundreds of thousands or even millions of users are not available through the Sonos search feature, and they’ve been added to the “My Radio Shows” section, which is somehow confusingly distinct from the “Podcasts” section. Sonos, you had something that worked pretty well before. May I request in all seriousness that you go back to the drawing board and earnestly begin work on a rebuild, based on actual users and user groups, and flush this current version down the toilet as soon as possible?
They have totally screwed this app
by Crashes again on 2018/08/03 20:54
The last update added the functionality to connect third party devices. The problem is that adding that functionality removed the ability to control the volume using the external volume controls on the iPhone. Of course, no one told me I was making that trade off before the update or I wouldn’t have updated. HERE’S WHAT’S WORSE: while playing songs from the music app, it skips to the next song before finishing the one that’s playing. Tech support via Twitter was no help and referred me to the 800 number. I waited on hold for over 30 minutes on three different occasions. Finally, I spoke with a tech who tested the response times of all the devices on my network. Conclusion: my iPhone isn’t responding quickly enough. Solution: use the iPad. He told me that I could start music playing on my iPad and then use my iPhone as a controller. However, when I do that, the skipping returns. So, the net is that the update made things worse, tech support was difficult to reach, and nothing has been fixed. If this was just a matter of switching to a new service, I’d do it in a heartbeat. But, I have a healthy sum of money invested in Sonos hardware. Not so easy to make the switch.
Best Multi Room Audio!
by HPandRon on 2018/08/05 19:52
I’ve been a Sonos user for the past 13 years, this review is long overdue. My first piece of equipment was the BU250, it came with the ZP90, ZP120 and a controller, purchased December 05, setup was a breeze.... the preamp connected to my existing home theatre, when I’m not watching movies, I listen to music in my family room through my Sonos. The ZP120 played music on my patio. I loved it so much, I purchased another BU250 in 2006, the preamp connected to my music room using my Mcintosh and Bowers and Wilkins speakers.... mind you now, I still use my McIntosh C32 preamp for vinyls. The other ZP120 connected to my balcony. Now I’ve got 4pieces of Sonos equipment, what’s next??? You’ve guessed it... In 07 I purchased two more ZP120 and a Zone Bridge. I can rock the whole house or play in each individual room. Never had any problems or failure... excellent quality and performance over the years. Funny thing, as I conclude this survey... “Some Kind of Wonderful” is playing now. Wonderful product!
Amazing system, difficult app that keeps getting worse
by The Kenosha Kid on 2018/01/01 16:45
The Sonos system itself has literally no real competition, so there's nothing much to say there. If you want an integrated wireless hifi system for your house that actually works, and supports all the major streaming/storage providers it’s the only game in town. The controller app, however, is a rolling disaster that manages to keep getting worse with each subsequent redesign. The latest major update apes the design of the iOS music app but it’s just an impossibly poor fit: there are two separate “room” interfaces and you will always, inevitably, pick the wrong one for the action you want to do. Volume controls are hidden in a slide-up “now playing” card which, when expanded, hides the shortcut links to everything. Getting simple things done is like swimming through molasses: someone at Sonos needs to sit down and do some actual user testing for this stuff. The good news is that they’ve mostly ignored the OS X/windows controller applications, so the interface there is still actually usable. And like I said, it’s the only game in town so what are you gonna do?
Latest update is awful!
by mawheatley on 2017/10/20 23:15
Omg this is terrible! I wish there was a way to uninstall this latest update! We have (had!) three rooms on this system. Since the update the only way to switch off one of the rooms was to pull the power cord! What kind of control is that? And I suppose that means this room is now unusable! This really needs to be addressed - I paid a lot of money for this system! UPDATE: it has taken a little while to get used to the new UI. I will also say the the new version was a lot more temperamental with Google Wifi - because the four speakers were reaching different access points it was hit and miss. However Google recently updated Google Wifi and that made things a lot better. I also plugged one of the speakers into an access point ethernet, which creates a dedicated Sonos network, and everything is now perfect again! I've changed the review to 4 stars. I still don't like the new UI, but in all fairness the whole system really does work extremely well.
Works as advertised...Great!
by gw52 on 2017/09/09 12:54
Over the past 3 years I have acquired the SONOS products to include the Play 1 and Play 5, several Connects and several SONOS Amps to control music throughout the house. It has allowed me to use some of my legacy speakers very effectively. The controller app works well but I am a tech person so easily understand some of the nuances to the features. My wife can use it well enough to play her favorites as well. I will note that as more features are added to the controller app, it gets more complicated and those technically challenged don't find it as easy to navigate the controls. Great products though and the sound can be perfectly matched to any room. One issue I discovered is that SiriusXM limits the number of simultaneous streams so if you are trying to play a channel in multiple rooms you will get a message cutting off the stream. I think their max is 2 or 3 simultaneous. Pandora works well for whole house events.
V 8.6 Crashes Constantly on iPhone X
by JG in SB on 2018/06/18 02:04
Just like the review title says. Crashes constantly on the iPhone X. Usually after browsing songs in Apple Music. Also it STILL doesn’t work to retune speakers with TruePlay using the iPhone X and also the iPhone 8 from what I have read. Both phones have been out for over six months. Oh yeah and the icing on the cake is that you won’t learn that TruePlay doesn’t work on your iPhone X until you have completed the entire process and it freezes indefinitely on the last step. Since SONOS knows this doesn’t work (I learned about it when I tried to find info in their forums...and there is info about this) it would be kind of nice if they popped up a warning at the START of the process to let you know you can’t do it on your particular hardware. So why do I still rate this app a 4? Because overall it is still an awesome app. I’m optimistic SONOS will fix these issues (hopefully soon) but in the meantime you should be aware of them.
Worst upgrade!
by Audio Vision on 2017/10/09 03:46
I run a professional AV company, and we install LOTS of Sonos. It's easily learned and used by folks who are otherwise non-technical. This latest 8.0 update is terrible. Sure, there are cosmetic issues like the bright white background, but more serious is the new navigation and UI. Why did they have to move Sonos Favorites to a different place than the Pandora and Sirius Favorites? Why did they have to remove the little play/pause icon from each of the Favorite channel logos? Now, while you're looking at your favorite channels, you can't tell which channel is playing unless you go to the now playing page.... so stupid. Also, previously there was always a little arrow at the top left of the screen where all your music could be accessed. Now, on some screens it's there, but on some other screens you have to go to the bottom toolbar to access your music. Why separate the music that way? And, IMHO, the new white background is more than just a subjective complaint. It eats battery life, and is so much less pleasant when using the controller in reduced lighting situations. Hate it. Does anyone know how to down-grade back to 7.4?
Upgrade is Horrible
by Tomarti on 2017/11/23 16:59
I have owned Sonos from it’s inception. My two dozen speakers are used at my home, office and vacation home. Until now I have had ZERO complaints- only praise! In fact, I have encouraged my friends and family to buy Sonos and given the speakers as gifts - until now. The new interface is non intuitive and confusing. Actually, it is COUNTER INTUITIVE. My friends, family and office staff have turned against me for providing them a monster of a music system. I am now the one asked to tune in the music that they desire because no one can figure it out (or don’t have the time to try to figure it out). Then I embarrassingly struggle to fulfill their request, and screw it up anyway. However, not all hope is lost! Sonos, if you want me to give you the five stars that you really deserve, fire the individual in charge of this most recent downgrade. Please post a photo of them exiting the building carrying their personal items in a cardboard box. Then get the app back to the way it was, with a few interface tweaks that are intuitive. Sonos, this is the “New Coke” of the 21st Century (look it up Millennials). You can fix it!
A Great, But Could Be A Little Better
by MustangGeeTee on 2017/10/17 19:55
I have 11 Sonos speakers, and I am beyond happy with them! I use Apple Music exclusively, and would like to see a couple of missing things. First I miss not finding my weekly Apple Music “Favorites Mix” in Sonos. It appears every Wednesday in Apple Music. More importantly I miss not having Lyrics at my disposal in Sonos. I am frequently in Apple Music App reading the lyrics as a play the music on the Sonos App. Lastly, I think the latest update took one step backwards. I have written to Apple a few times telling them that they should copy Sonos when it came to having the “Now Playing” bar at the bottom of the screen a distinct contrasting color compared to the playlist. Apple has a white playlist and a barely off-white Now Playing bar at the bottom. Sonos had a dark Now Playing bar which stood out nicely. Now Sonos has copied Apple with a white Now Playing bar at the bottom of a white window. The dark bar was a better idea for sure...
Was good until ......
by TashBeeLike on 2017/08/24 19:39
I use Sonos at work so that I don't have to work is complete silence. Also. So that I could connect my Apple Music to it. And for months it was working perfectly fine. I liked that I was able to control the music from the office plus from my phone if I stepped away from my desk. Recently, ( like yesterday ) when I try to access the Sonos app on my phone it's telling me I cannot use it until I install the latest version - providing me with an external link. When following the link a " Sonos beta " app is downloaded. But when you try to access it, Apple says this app has not been deemed trustworthy therefore can not be used. The link then goes on with instructions on how to bypass this untrustworthy situation. But in the end I have two apps, that do not work whatsoever & a waste of my time. So I'm not sure what's going on here with Sonos, but I had to delete both apps since I can't use them. BUT before all of that, I loved the app. Which is why I can't completely write them off yet.
Great speakers but just about the worst wireless system and app
by jamesslc on 2018/08/04 21:57
I live for tech and work in tech and this is the absolute worst system I’ve ever used. Sonos, why in the world do you push so many updates non stop?? As a customer, just trying to use the system as is, I’m constantly having to reset my bridge/network and go through your update process, that eventually, after minutes of waiting will say “something went wrong with your update”😡😡😡 Then to add insult to injury, the system won’t let me use my Apple Music subscription on Sonos until updates are complete. Had I not spent so much money on your speakers, I would have left your products along time ago. Clearly you are a speaker company trying to create software to support a wireless speaker system, but your approach is completely failing in my world! Stop requiring your customers go through updates! Just let me use what works! Once Apple makes their home speaker system robust... I’m out, which I’m sure will be most people ready to move on from your very expensive hardware, and over promised and under delivered software system. Ridiculous.
Please get a new focus group
by c9belayer on 2017/12/31 18:16
The new panel-based UI is a step backwards. The list of errors is long, but the 2 worst ones are 1) it takes longer to do things and 2) the Pandora saved stations list is no longer alphabetized; it changes every time you use it! Frickin’ maddening. Many others have complained about it, so I won’t repeat them here. Here’s an example of my first gripe. When you select a “room” you back out of THAT menu and go into the BROWSE menu (why not just call it “music” for Gods sake, so all the menu choices are nouns? I could be browsing my speaker/rooms collection after all. Think about it please). Anyway, while in the browse/music menu there is no indication of what speaker (excuse me, “room”) will play the music I’m choosing. If I forget, I’ve got to close that menu, look at the bottom of the screen to see which “room” is active, and then open the browse/music _again_. I do have many speakers/rooms/zones and frequently play 2-3 types of music on various combinations, so yeah, these issues make it all harder to manage, not easier.
How I “used” to love this app
by San Diego Debbie on 2017/12/08 22:01
I have been using Sonos products for the last 4 years and I thought Nirvana had arrived. Not the group, the pleasure of the experience. I used the app every single day and what started out with the Play 1 quickly grew into multiple 1s, a 3 and several 5s. The Playbase was going to be next, but that came to a screeching Halt when Sonos decided to F up the app. What had been a perfect, straight forward app you could operate without your glasses, without having your morning coffee, without even thinking about it, is now a nightmare. First the horrendous blinding white screen of snow blindness but far more egregious is the entire layout change. It takes forever to figure out where things are, how to go back to the menu, how to perform a search and I still can’t figure out how to add and edit stations. It was a complete piece of cake before, and now it’s a complete piece of S*it. My love affair is over and while the actual product is fabulous, the app is so bad it has killed the enjoyment. I hope another developer comes up with an app that works. I’d even pay for it and drop this crappy disaster.
Songs on iPhone and iPad cut short
by Phlynk on 2018/05/05 04:11
When I attempt to play any iTune playlists that I’ve loaded onto either my iPhone or my iPad the first few songs will play all the way through, but eventually Sonos will begin to only play part of a song and then it will skip to the next song, playing only part of that song and then skipping to the next song, and so on from that point on. I searched online and found that hundreds of other people are having the same problem and it appears there is no resolution for it yet. Sonos support wants to blame people’s routers but I have a hard time believing that hundreds of routers are dropping their connection at about the same exact point in every song. Also, if it was my router dropping the connection then why do the first few songs of a playlist always play all the way through, but then at some point they begin skipping part way through. I think Sonos needs to swallow their pride and hire some hotshot technicians/programmers to resolve this.
WAS great..
by jlgrote on 2017/11/28 17:45
Used to love this app but after they updated with the ios11, and since, it’s become me an app that I want to use less and less. Sonos no longer saves previous speaker settings so switching anything becomes a longer task than before. And that’s after the daunting task of switching rooms. The fastest way I can get it to work now is to group the new speakers(s), let that update, then go back in and ungroup the speaker(s) I don’t want. If you try to check the new speaker(s) you want and uncheck the current speaker, then hit done, it’ll show it updated but doesn’t and just stays on the speakers you had selected in the first place. Also, I’ve noticed lately if I’m playing a playlist off my phone it’ll skip over the songs as if there’s an error even though they are downloaded on my phone. I’ll be listening to a playlist and next thing there will be a long pause then it’ll play 5 or more songs after. Sometimes it’ll just start the playlist over. Only happens when I’m using it on the Sonos app. Can you please fix these?
SONOS
by Spiked jones on 2018/07/25 12:11
In general, this innovative system has transformed our home. We have had Sonos since it was introduced to the market. It has developed into an easy to use sound delivery system providing our home with music, news and podcasts with smart phone and computer app controls that are easy to use. The sound is quite good and its several autonomous modular options allow flexibility of delivery. Stereo is readily achievable by pairing modular units. Occasional software updates can slow things up a bit. At times the system seems to forget where it is and asks me to start from scratch. I don’t like passwords and find it unnecessary for something like Sonos. I know the trend will be to have AI invading our homes so I hope Sonos has an opt out feature to allow those of us not interested in being spied on to have a simple server in the house and have to endure the vagaries of AI second guessing our every decision regarding the simplest of pleasures.
Homerun for sound & tech; but 2 partner strikeouts
by erinherrera76 on 2018/06/03 00:41
I love this speaker’s sound quality, ease of use and partnership with Pandora. Two annoyances though: 1) When choosing to cast through Sonos a song already playing in the Pandora app, it automatically censors the lyrics. It’s impressive technology, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to opt for uncensored casting. Reviewing comments, it seems both companies are blaming each other for it. Couldn’t that option pop up right as you’re choosing to throw it out to Sonos? Not all of us have kids or customers within earshot. 2) Late last baseball season, I discovered I could stream audio of MLB games on Sonos through the partnership with MLB’s At Bat app. This year, I get a message saying Sonos isn’t partnering with MLB anymore. So, only 4 stars. I’d planned this season to buy speakers for more rooms to FEEL baseball games throughout the house, but without that option, I’m ok with just the one speaker for music & podcasts.
Sonos does not work to play songs off an I phone.
by Skip System on 2019/02/01 12:50
I am very disappointed with SONOS’ lack of ability to fix a glitch in their system. Until about a year ago, a user could easily play the songs from their I phone. Was very convenient & one of the best features of the SONOS system. I have had the system in my whole house for approximately 3 years and loved it. Then about a year ago, when playing songs from the I phone, the songs would randomly skip in the middle of one song & start playing another song. Other times it would just go silent even though the controller shows that the song is playing. SONOS is well aware of the problem (that was never a problem when I first bought the system for the whole house). The SONOS tech people blame APPLE (who actually sells the system in their stores). It has been too long for SONOS to find a solution for this well documented & widespread problem with their system. Very disappointing responsiveness from what seems like a quality company with a quality product.
Some of the worst customer service
by Jenksykat1644 on 2019/02/08 02:50
My controller hasn't been able to connect to the speakers since the last update, on two separate devices. One device that hasn't received the update works just fine. I've gone through all of their frequent problems, resulting in being worst off then before. Their email technical support has been useless - never actually reading my responses. Their phone technical support is only available while I work. And now I'm calling them while at work trying to get them to pay attention to the problem or get some sort of adequate response. -i haven't been able to talk to a real person yet and I've been on hold for 14 minutes and counting. (4 more then my break). I'm going to give up on this call now. Update - their customer service is still complete trash. Lately I spend more the running an update then actually being able to use it. And half the updates leave it messed up requiring more customer service time. Which is garbage and useless. Overall I spend more time dealing with problems then enjoying. Such a waste of money.

Updates are infuriating

No pattern

Extremely unreliable and buggy
by stuwest1029384756 on 2019/05/18 17:14
Continually disconnects/drops out while I'm listening to music, sometimes doesn't work at all. Sometimes I need to log in an set up speakers again after they disappear. Just extremely buggy and unreliable and incredibly frustrating. Steer clear of Sonos
Can’t connect to my music library
by Brookhavenatl on 2019/05/18 16:20

At least my record player works all the time.

by Zoomn II on 2019/05/15 23:15

Now that sonos can’t be controlled on the locked phone screen, it’s a pain to pause, skip, turn volume down, etc... we find we don’t use it hardly ever. We use Alexa way more- and I can’t figure out how to integrate our sonos with Alexa. Wish it was easier to use.
Updates make this terrible
by pooiuyytgh on 2019/05/15 04:35

Music Freq!
by Sound Hound-dog on 2019/05/14 03:30
This has to be the most significant development for music lovers since sliced bread!

Amazing system

My sonos app frequently will not connect to the system now that the company has updated the software. I previously never had this problem. I used to love my sonos system. Not so much since the new software. The software update also lost all of my favorite net radio stations. Im starting over with my favorites. Not cool.

How did we live without it
by Bluehdbike on 2017/12/14 04:14
So with all of the technology i have brought through the house this is the only thing my wife has said "how did we live without it?" And she can control it with no issue.
