Since the dawn of time
by akoktsidis on 2021/03/05 03:23
Since the dawn of time I have been using simple note. At least that’s what it feels like. I have accumulated so many notes, thoughts, stories, observations, poems, conversations, phone numbers...all miraculously stored and available to me in a few clicks. Please never stop existing. And continue tweaks and improvements because it would be a hassle to switch note apps after all this time.
A second update
by YoungSinister on 2021/02/26 23:08
After initially giving this app five stars due to its simplicity and usefulness, I removed a star because the new email verification wouldn’t work. I contacted the devs, and they responded immediately. A few days later, the problem was fixed, so it’s a five-star app again! One reason is because the app is great, but also because they respond to hiccups and get to the bottom of it. I can’t tell you how many other app developers I can think of that should learn from these guys!
Need folders
by @aiyaz7066 on 2021/02/18 01:39
Hi! Thanks for this simple note taking app that syncs so well with my iPhone and PC. But it would be really great if sorting the notes in different folders was possible. Otherwise the notes look disorganized. Hope it will be considered. Thank you!
Beautiful and simple
by Notebook-addict on 2021/02/15 07:09
This app is nice looking, fast and easy to use. Grateful for searching gadget. But i can’t believe we can’t add images or documents. And again i can’t believe we can’t sort notes into folders. Also i would like to be able to create big titles and colorful notes. I get it, it is a simple notebook. And i respect this concept. But these missing features are main notebook features to me. That is why i gave it 4 stars.
Simple is good, except for security
by Champion.#2 on 2021/02/08 05:11
The app is a nice, simple thing that does what it needs to. Unbloated and focused. However the security is a little lax; please consider 2FA and/or “Sign In with Apple” (which negates the need for 2FA). Icing on the cake would be end-to-end encryption. Overall fantastic ...the price is right, that’s for sure!
Remove Account Verification
by What Is This? A Room for Ants? on 2021/02/08 04:15
Hey. I love this app; however, the account verification screen is very aggravating. Could you remove it, please?
Needs underling & bold capability
by DebTip on 2021/01/07 15:05
It’s a great app but it would be so much better if I could underline and make bold or highlight the most imprtant parts of my notes. It takes so much time to read an entire note in order to find the important parts that I’m wanting to read.
Love the simple design
by Jayperdu on 2021/01/04 15:16
I love the design of this app. It’s not easy to create simple things. The amount of thought process that went into this is enormous. Thank you!
Missing notes
by SteelyB53 on 2020/12/31 02:39
Nothing more frustrating when an entire not fails to save. To be fair I’m talking about the browser interface but w.e
Signup glitch. LOST ACCOUNT
by Major Oswin on 2020/11/22 04:26
After I created an account and moved my notes I logged out. When I tried to log back in, it was like my account never existed. I salvaged my notes (outdated) with another note app but did lose a few. I’m giving this app a second chance because Ive created my account again with the same email and tested logging out and it. So hopefully this was a onetime glitch and I won’t lose more data.
Wow I can’t believe it...
by anonymouse293018 on 2020/11/19 23:43
It has taken me so long to find an app like this. This is the BEST notes app, btw it requires an email for anyone that doesn’t have one. This is a truly amazing, swift, and simple notes app. Now, when you hear simple it may not sound the most attractive, but by simple I mean the UI is very quick and easy to use.
Still the best, and now better

It won’t publish notes to web!
by Reader1718 on 2020/11/12 15:29
I tried to publish my notes to the web, but I keep getting an error that says “Note not published”. Can you please fix this?
iOS cursor bug
by Titaniumapple1234 on 2020/11/06 04:29
I’m using Simplenote on 2020 iPad 11 inch and occasionally there’s a bug that doesn’t allow me to click with the cursor (using a Magic Trackpad 2). I have to go back into the main notes list and go back into the note again to fix it. Otherwise, great app
Quick entry for tags doesn’t work
by Toomanybarts on 2020/10/30 03:37
As you start to type a tag, current rage start to show up, but when you tap on them it doesn’t autocomplete it just stores the tag as you’ve typed. Eg I have a tag of “Home” as I start a new note and add the tag, I type “h” it shows “Home” as a tag I’ve used, I tap on “Home” and it just stores the tag as “h”
Works great, multi-year user
by gurnx on 2020/10/17 18:53
Syncing keeps getting better, less than 1 sync error/yr using cellphone hotspot.
Page jumping
by gaubububu on 2020/10/12 06:24
The last two versions have been the worst. Whenever I tap on the screen to edit something, the cursor will just jump around the page and won’t end up at exactly the spot that I want. Like for example, I’m writing and suddenly remember that I need to add a few things to the first paragraph, I will scroll up and tap on the screen to type, and the cursor will jump to some crazy place that’s not where I pressed. Already emailed support but they still haven’t fixed it in the latest version. I never had this problem before I updated my phone to iOS 14, so something is probably incompatible with the new iOS that’s causing this problem.
by 109Don on 2020/09/26 16:27
Why do I need to log in to write notes? This is supposed to be simple. No log in with Apple option.

Notes Randomly Disappear
by Ev366 on 2020/09/13 15:41
Randomly I lost a note with important information. There is no way I deleted it by accident, as even if I did it would have been in the recently deleted trash section, and would have been easy to restore. This app has flawed security and programming.
Disappearing notes
by Beburnett on 2020/09/05 03:03
I spent a few hours making notes and a timeline for past trips (a to match with photo files) in Simplenote. Went back in a couple of times later in the day, no problem. Tonight I tried to go back in...all but 2 notes were simply gone. Anything I click on, such as trash, says I have to upgrade to Pro for access. When I try to upgrade to Pro, it tells me no product is available. That’s it. I’m done.
Magic genie
by Griffintech99 on 2020/09/04 15:01
I found it as critical as to, if I only had one wish from the magic genie. It would be told; ‘Genie in Bottle, my one wish would be,’ in SimpleNotes inside of a note, to have functions implemented, to insert photos from Camera Roll, and from iOS Files. The Microsoft App Store app of SimpleNotes is the rarely seen, “cherry on top”.
Perfect notes app!
by leandro-ar on 2020/08/29 23:28
Oh god, this is the best note taking app EVER. Even its source code is beautiful, specially the iOS one!
Excellent note app, except a couple notable bugs
by Rusch Motorsports on 2020/08/29 16:53
Love this app, been using it for a few years now, though be aware of these 3 issues though; * There is no means to provide feedback or report bugs, (have looked through app and online), I guess low star reviews here are how we get that feedback to them?. * Current release still has a text correction bug. When a word is spelled different than the auto correct suggestion, the X button to leave the existing text does not function and it forces the auto correct version. You do not have the option to retain your spelling of the word unless you go back and delete the word and rewrite it two or three more times to set it the way the spelling you want. * in moving the cursor about to make adjustments in editing text, the cursor bar does not go where you want to go, it will bounce to the letter or space before or sometimes after the desired location, never to the exact spot you want to go as it does in the rest of the iOS apps.
Must be in the Top 10 of all apps ever
by Krystyan on 2020/08/27 05:38
Update AUG 26 2020 - Fixing my rating back to 5 Stars (and only because 10 Stars is not available!! 😀) because the SimpleNote people are simply SO awesome that they fixed the bug I reported below in just a couple of days. You really are all super-awesome!! Update AUG 16 2020 - “Please fix ASAP - Sudden major usability issue” I’m very sorry to change my rating to a 1 temporarily but this is to alert you to an issue that I first noticed 3-4 days ago. I am no longer able to select a section of text, scrolling up or down, without SimpleNote throwing me all the way to the bottom of the note or the top of the note. In other words, even though I only want to sweep my text selection by 2-3 lines, SN just takes me 10 screens down or 10 screens up. This is making the app virtually unusable to me. PS I’m running iOS 13.4.1 and haven’t upgraded to 13.6.1 so I’m pretty sure it’s not an OS issue. Thank you!! The Real Review starts HERE: “Must be in the Top 10 of all apps ever” SimpleNotes is one of the FEW apps I have that truly deserves all the accolades and 5 stars reviews it gets. Frankly only Google Photos is at that level also. Thank you to the developers for also adding a bunch of cool features recently (early/mid 2019)!! With that said, here’s my Feature Wishlist for SimpleNote with the first item being a TRULY URGENT one: URGENT!!!!!! - Two-Factor authentication PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE (somewhat in order) - Foldering (+ move to/across folders etc...) - Delete confirmation (notes) - Auto Numbering lists - Quick auto format turn off - sometimes I don’t want SN to add bullets - Undo (lots of people don’t know to shake or it may not be turned on on their device) - More advanced searching (date created, date modified, ranges, device used, author, etc...) - easy way to see creation and modified date - Various ways to sort the notes - finally and this may be more of an iOS bug but text replacement doesn’t always work - same with spelling suggestions. Seems to happen when editing text vs. Adding new one. But I could be on a new line, typing ymca (as an example) and I don’t get the replacement all caps version which I’ve programmed or spelling suggestions will show “finishymca” somehow groupong my new word with the last word of the previous line. Almost like it’s treating the two lines as a continuous one despite the visual line break
Beautiful app! But why no rich text?
by Jbaler on 2020/08/25 02:44
This is such a beautiful app that I enjoy using. I just don’t understand this obsession with markdown only and the absolute rejection of rich text. Why can I not have headers and bold as options in the editor?? Can this please be implemented???? Thank you!
nice job fixing that scroll bug 👍👍
by Zook024 on 2020/08/23 19:22
made it unusable for me, grateful for the quick fix
Its good when it works
by Richcookin on 2020/08/22 21:40
But too buggy at times. Right now i try to highlight a paragraph of text but it automat higlights a whole page of text!
Someday, a Notebook app will...
by AstroPaul on 2020/08/22 14:53
let you use it without having to sign up for *their* service and have your personal, private notes stored on *their* servers! One shouldn’t have to sign up for a service to use a Notebook app or even to sync notes. After all, we all have private, personal notes; even confidential financial and business ones; we’re often away from the Internet; etc. Thought I’d mention this so that other people who want a private, local, on device app won’t waste their time downloading this! —— P.S. Appreciate that the developer took the time to respond to my review. It didn't, though, directly address my point. Many of us don't need to sync our notes *across* devices; syncing should be an additional feature for a Notes app, that is, an option for those who want to use it. As to that, *local* syncing is certainly doable *without* a 3rd party server and account — e.g., via iTunes, via device to computer Wi-FI WEB-DAV syncing, etc. I use both a spreadsheet and database app that provide such local synching WITHOUT having to set up an account with the developers! To sum up. 1. A notes app does NOT need to have syncing as a MANDATE — and should NOT have one. Many apps operate on local devices without requiring signing up for a 3rd party cloud server. 2. Syncing should be an optional feature, not one required to even use the app. We should NOT be forced to have all notes stored with YOU! 3. Even with synching, there should be options, too — e.g., local synching, so that people's personal, medical, business, work, and legal *confidential* notes can be kept up-to-date and backed up on their own computers — are NOT stored on YOUR servers! Others trust Apple over 3rd party unknown developers, so iCloud synching should be an option, too. Let me put this another way. Why *not* put out a version of your app that lets people use it without signing up? Why *not* tweak the app to provide a completely private local sync? Other developers do so. Why build in an invasion of privacy as part of using your app? Let people opt INTO using your server if they are comfortable with doing that. By mandating that users sign up, you've eliminated a chunk of your market!
Simple & elegant
by vikasnair on 2020/08/17 16:38
I use this app because of my dependency on nValt for Mac, which syncs notes via SimpleNote. Have had a great experience using both these tools for almost a decade. Feature request: allow true dark mode with pure black backgrounds (if not replacing the default dark mode theme, having it as a separate option like the iOS Twitter app).
Simplicity = perfection
by Dogratty on 2020/08/14 13:46
I have tried many Note apps but couldn’t find one that didn’t have useless bells & whistles. Then I found Simplenote. I haven’t had a glitch, no lost notes, no problems at all. I use it to draft an email or a document, I simply drop the finished content into whatever app or program I need - Outlook, Word, Messages - no worries of losing it or hitting send on a 1/2 done doc by mistake. If the app closes before I save it , no worries, it’s saved! > Simplicity = Perfection = peace of mind < And peace of mind is great in a high pressure work day.
GREAT, Simple Note-taking & Writing App
by Tessa M(: on 2020/07/22 12:16
I use this to write stories & for note taking. It’s very simple and easy to use, and you can organize each “note” with Tags so you can find them better! The only downsides (that I can think of at the moment) are: – you can’t bold, italicize, underline or change the font/text in any way (the title is the only part that’s ever bolded). – you can’t type too many Emoji’s in a row or else the app shuts down on you. It’s VERY annoying and I would LOVE IT if this was fixed! – also you can’t make your notes too long or else it slows everything down= the typing speed is DELAYED (or “lags”—for any gamers out there). I REALLY want that fixed so that this app can earn its 5 star rating!
So good, it’s almost silly
by President Bear on 2020/07/17 16:54
Speedy and reliable notes app with cloud syncing and apps for every platform. New version looks fantastic! Great way to save lists, quotes, and more. I have used it for about a decade now—absolutely love it.
THIS APP IS LITERALLY PERFECT
by l0l0g on 2020/07/15 04:17
JULY 2020 UPDATE : this app has been freezing A LOT while i’m typing making it very difficult to complete a sentence or thought 😓 i honestly cannot think of one thing that could be changed or added to make this app any better than it already is. it offers so many useful features FOR FREE! it syncs my notes across all of my devices / has an option to require a passcode / has a search function that highlights the word or words being searched / keeps a history of all the changes made to a certain note along with the dates the note was created and edited / allows you to add tags to keep notes organized
Plenty to Like
by Simple Theory on 2020/07/13 19:13
This app is cross platform, easy to learn, and free. It uses tags for organization and you can do mark up. Five stars because it does all it needs to. I use other note taking apps for more complex chores but Simplenote is quick and reliable. It also basically serves as backup for just about everything I write. You can do Markup with it, and see the formatted text with a quick swipe.
Absolutely Critical
by whitefishsc on 2020/07/04 17:10
I have Evernote, been using it since it was a little clipper on Win. It´s a great app, a BIG app, and sometimes I just want to keep track of something quickly or some simple things. Simple Note is perfect for that. I probably use it 10 times for every one time I use Evernote. I absolutely considerate it critical. I think it is perfect as is. Once in a while the develoers add some little tweak, always keeping simplicity in mind, and the app becomes even more perfect. I wish i could give it 100 stars!
Sorting feature lacking
by Sonumaze on 2020/07/03 17:19
I used this app for a long time just to collect lists. Its great at simple list making and notes. But for list making it needs auto sort of completed tasks. The checkmark button is also not responsive. So while this is almost all I need, its not enough for list making. I am switching to Apple’s notes just for that.
The Best!!
by WencilSmith on 2020/06/21 08:14
The best and simples for notes and passwords. By far. Everything else is gimmicky and bad. This is simple, elegant, and good.
Everything fixed with the newest version
by serious sunoco fan on 2020/05/24 20:04
I gave a bad review on the previous version of the app, but with the latest update all of my complaints (which had to do with formatting) have been resolved. This app is great again!
Was A Really Useful and Convenient App!
by esavageus on 2020/05/16 16:04
This app was really great until it wasn’t. Recently, it started replacing words with inappropriate words and, more recently, started deleting what I had written and/or reinserting things I had deleted. Most frustrating!
经常发生在我输入内容后 内容消失不见
by evicdong on 2020/05/09 02:46

Persian Support
by Shayan0 on 2020/05/05 04:41
Thanks for supporting Persian. I use a companion app to Simplenote just for my RTL notes. I would be glad remove or “reduce” it, according to the first law of simplicity. As expected, title text is displayed correctly, but unfortunately, body text (paragraph, unordered and checklist) is still left-aligned in writing and preview mode.
Persian support (:
by ErfanMolaIR on 2020/05/04 14:15
Finally support for Persian language, perfect, just perfect (:
Absofreakinlutely love it
by Bosco666 on 2020/04/21 10:29
As the title reads, I Absofreakinlutely love this simple little note taking app. I have it on my phone and iPad and I currently utilize it to record spur of the moment ideas and shopping list.
Great App - The best out there!
by Amorronn on 2020/04/12 17:56
Simple, yet powerful. Love the Dropbox backup! All my notes from any device using (phone, iPad, any browser on PC, etc). I’ve tried most - SimpleNote is awesome and first in its class!
Great app, just a minor comment :)
by Elhosseiny on 2020/04/11 19:43
The latest update is just buggy, the notes are repeated, the RTL note preview is broken. I’m using iOS 12 on an iphone 6.
Truly simple
by ljacob15 on 2020/04/09 20:46
I switched my notes to this app because I started using Ubuntu on my computer and wanted compatibility across Linux, MacOS, iOS, etc. Now I no longer have Ubuntu but I still use SimpleNote. Pros: - Cross platform compatibility - Simple, intuitive interface - Absence of bugs and other failures Cons: - Wish I could add pictures to notes
Compatible with all devices
by ManrriquezTGeo on 2020/04/09 04:13
I have used this app for a few years now. I use it for everything. I store all my passwords for everything and every website and I keep important info I just need in my daily life. The number one reason I luv this app so much is because it’s compatible with all devices. In case I lose my phone, I can access all my notes from anywhere, any phone by downloading the app and any computer by going to simplenote.com.
Fantastic note-taking app
by drummer44jesus on 2020/04/07 13:53
Been using Simplenote for years. Love the simple layout, ability to assign tags for categorization, and syncing across multiple devices (iOS, Android, Windows 10). Also appreciate the feature to download a zip container of my notes for periodic backup. This app is perfect if you need note-taking ability with text only that will sync across multiple devices. If you want an app that has more capability (different fonts, ability to insert pics, checklists, etc.) then this app is not for you.
Simply the best note-taking app
by Slimzig on 2020/04/07 02:08
Quick, fast, and easy to use, yet powerful enough to function as your primary app for writing down jokes, pithy sayings, books you’ve read, whatever. I use it all the time on my iPhone and MacBook Air. Take note: make your life simple. Get this app.
Amazing, free, cross-platform

I prepare and preview documents while using ANY device. And it is free (oh my! HOW?!). You guys are awesome!

Perfect in its simplicity
by MattandJohn on 2020/03/31 11:13
SimpleNote has been my go to for years. It does one thing but does it very well. I rely on it on a daily basis and trust that it not only flawlessly preserves my notes but also allows me to access them quickly and easily from anywhere. If you’re like me and prefer to use a small portfolio of specialist apps (as opposed to one app that tries to serve many purposes), this is a great choice for note taking.
Very good notepad

A Superpower for Serious Note Takers
by Sparkey's Dad on 2020/03/26 13:29
Simplenote has become the successor in an illustrious line of note-capture boons that went this way: Day Timer—>Palm Pilot notes—> Blackberry notes—> Evernote—> Simplenote. One of its outstanding strengths is cross-platform friendly access. Dash off a long note in this app on your iThing, and you can readily retrieve it later on your desktop mothership to import it into a final, word processed document. Alas, this never worked with Evernote because of what seem to be trailing, embedded format shackles that make the imported content break off in strange places, like a convict making a desperate bid for escape. For anyone who needs to capture useful references and create retrievable content on the go, Simplenote is simply the best.
Always There
by DKJ01 on 2020/03/26 06:46
I have several multi-platform note apps. Of them Simplenote is the only one that is always there, always synced, always fast to appear when summoned, and always simple to use. And once it knows who you are on a given device it doesn’t come backing demanding a password again. If you want reliability and predictability, here it is. I say that having used it for several years on several generations of devices. This one is a keeper.
Simple note

I love it because it's so simple to use. I use it daily whenever I want to write a quick note.
I love this app!
by Ray1214 on 2020/03/25 15:49
This app is so easy to use and it works perfectly every time. The Simplenote app on my iPhone instantly syncs with the Simplenote app on my MacBook Pro so I always have all of my updated notes ready to be read and edited on either device. I probably use this app more than almost any other app that I have and it never lets me down. It’s got all that I need without any unnecessary clutter. I also love the minimalist and efficient design. I organize lots of things with this app and it’s been a pleasure to use. Thanks so much to the developers for creating this awesome tool! You’re the best!!!
Great way to store random info
by hele on on 2020/03/25 02:16
After my web browser and texting apps, this is the app that I use the most every day. Very well implemented. The developers have avoided the “function creep” that clutters so many other information management apps. Simple and intuitive, it’s a great way to store and retrieve snippets of random information. Easy search function. Syncs seamlessly across my phone, tablet, and computer. All apps should be this good!
Best quick note app, bar none.
by aleedac on 2020/03/24 15:49
The name says it ALL. I keep every idea, link, quote, prayer and song right at my fingertips. Tagging makes it easy to find again. Brilliant app, couldn’t live without it.

If you like to save drawings, pictures, videos, and other media, this is not the app for you. But, if you are looking for a digital platform to jot down short notes and messages (so as not to have to many bits of paper lying about) this is a very good one—it’s cross-platform and very easy to use. There is even a ‘night’ mode if you prefer light text on a dark background.

This app is so helpful
by L.I.Y.A. on 2020/03/19 10:24
I was searching for apps i could write summaries in and i found simplenote, it has been so helpful for me and i really like using it because the app is free and its really smooth to use if that makes sense. But i do think they could add some more features like being able to highlight the words and sentences, and being able to make a table on it . Even if they don’t add those features it’s completely fine , this was just my opinion, nevertheless this app is my favorite app to use for writing :)

Best alternative to apple notes
by gamerlpe on 2020/03/04 18:14
I work on Mac an Windows so I needed an app that would work outside of Apple. This is the most similar app. It is extremely simple just like the Notes app, it adds 1 bit of complexity with markdown, but that is also perfect for me, since a lot of what I write are articles for a blog, and markdown is ideal for it.
Easy and secure note app
by Lizfogle09 on 2020/03/04 16:53
I’ve been using this app for several years. My favorite feature is that it is locked and I can open with my touch. I also love that I can easily tag a note to organize my recipes, to do list, garden ideas, etc. you can search in the main page but I would love it if you could search an individual note. Otherwise, a great and reliable app to keep me organized.
The most compatible note-taking app out there
by Glory dude on 2020/03/04 05:04
Even though it’s pretty no-frills, I think Simplenote is simply the the best, because no matter what kind of computer or device you’re on, you’re guaranteed to find some kind of Simplenote client for it. (Unlike Apple Notes) Feature request: folders :)

by Uxen on 2020/02/27 19:06
I loved this app once I found it; it’s easy way to share notes between Windows PC and iPhone. Previously it smoothly and sync was immediate. However, currently it works really awful. Sometimes it doesn’t sync notes at all, or it takes forever. Shame on developer. Terrible user experience. Have to find replacement and hate this app now.
The more I use it, the more I like it
by deaf.and.dumb on 2020/02/27 18:21
I’ve spent a lot of time over the years testing capture- and note-taking apps. While I use Evernote for larger-scale captures, I use Simplenote almost daily for smaller notes, to-do’s, and simple cut ‘n paste captures. In many cases, simpler is better. Simplenote is beautiful in its simplicity and functionality. It’s become one of my go-to’s and it’s been rock-solid in syncing and retaining items — nothing lost in the ether after using this for 4+ years now!

I enjoy the app. I use it on nearly 4 different devices and it works great most of the time. Every now and then it has a hiccup but most of the time it’s great. I can transfer any notes from my phone to my laptop to my tablet at any point. It does need internet for the tablet and laptop but that is not an overall big deal for me. I have used this app for nearly two or three years now and I do not know what I would do without it.

I was depressed once, and I kept some notes in the notes app that comes on the iPhone. I talked about how I was feeling, what I was thinking, as well specific events that happened. These notes were very valuable to me as they detailed my experience. I wanted to save them and be able to look back later in my life and review/ analyze what I had written during that difficult time. But one day, while trying to access my notes I discovered, to my horror, that the notes had disappeared! I still don’t know what happened and have found no way to retrieve them. They are lost. Valuable details and memories I can’t get back. I looked around for a new note app that would guarantee the safety of my precious notes. I found that app in Simplenote! My private notes are fingerprint and password protected. They are backed up and can be accessed from any of my devices! I love it! The app has a cool feature that saves not just the current note, but also the original version of the note and all versions following! I feel assured knowing my notes are safe with simplenote!
No shortcuts for ipad Keyboard hurts the app
by Agent619 on 2019/08/25 19:48
I use an ipad 6 to use this application and it was going really good until I held down the command key to see what cool shortcuts were available. There were none. Suddenly all the speed and simplicity that the app did a wonderful job of integrating flew out of the window because I was left having to reach from keyboard to screen more often than I wanted to. There were no obvious shortcuts for making a new note other than actually touching the screen. No obvious way off accessing my tags unless I touched the screen. This is wonderful when I am in full touchscreen ipad mode or iphone mode but when I have the keyboard out and connected to the ipad I want a little bit more fluidity when it comes to movement between windows. After all, Apple specializes in this. So seeing that there are no obvious keyboard shortcuts really hurt. Every other app shows me a nice list of easy to see shortcuts when I hold the command button. Please add this feature. It will improve the app drastically. Literally made the app unusable for me because it is hard to go back to just touching the screen for every single task when you have a keyboard attached. Touching screen for a few things is nice but it gets to a point where my hands cant even rest on the keyboard anymore.
The best app on my phone
by Floipoid on 2018/09/08 06:02
This is literally the best app on my phone. That is saying a lot, but this app just gets me. It is just so common sense with its functionality and lack of stupid extra bs, and it just works the way it's supposed to. It's free, your notes are safely stored including old versions of notes saved, and it syncs between devices. There's a version for every os including desktop os's. It's got some other useful functions I don't use like the ability to share a note with collaborators and writing in markup or something, but I can't comment on them because I haven't used them. I bet they work great though. This is probably the least buggy app I've ever used too. It's lack of stupid extra bs means it just works right. Download it right now. It's a strict upgrade from your dumb default notes app, there are no downsides to replacing it with this. The simple fact that if you ever accidentally delete a note you can just look at the saved history version is all the reason you need, and is the reason I sought this app out in the first place. Just DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!
Absolutely simple, exactly what I need.
by katdev on 2017/03/01 02:31
I used Evernote for a few years, but it was a bit bloated and slow, and I really didn't need or want the formatted text or images that often resulted when I pasted text into my notes. Then I moved to Apple's Notes app, and for a long time, I tolerated its oddities and frustrations on my iPhone, Macs and iCloud. Duplicated notes and syncing issues were annoying and rampant. But when Apple removed the ability to sort notes alphabetically on iOS, I had had enough. My search for an alternative led me to Simplenote about a year ago, and I've never looked back. It's exactly what I need, and has the added benefit of having a Windows app too. Intuitive interface, built-in versioning, and solid as a rock. It still makes me happy every one of the 100+ times a day I use it to quickly jot down a shopping list, recipe, to do, movie to watch, book to read, or random thought. I don't think I've ever loved an app so much. And through Simplenote, I also discovered Simperium. :)
Very pleased
by BenGenGal on 2019/03/19 05:40
I have no complaints about this app. It’s just what I needed. The reason I downloaded this one was because the one I was using lost a lot of my information and I told my friend I would much rather have a simple notebook app that will just keep all my notes (and not lose them!) and that also wouldn’t take up a lot of space on my phone. All those other apps where you draw and have audio recordings and all that stuff were apps that were gonna take up way too much room on my phone. This is perfect. I am able to study and do my homework and not have to redo any of my work because it is all right here. I don’t have to worry about losing the information ever because it is either on my phone or on the accompanying website and it even saves earlier versions of my work. I really do like everything about this app. It does just what I need it to. Oh, and I also found out that I can sort my notes alphabetically which was a nice plus :)
I rely on Simplenote.
by Streamer Charlie on 2018/10/12 13:54
I am one who makes many many notes which contain info about everything that I might need to have at my fingertips anytime, anywhere. I call Simplenote a note-keeping app rather than a note-taking app. I don’t need images or links to calendars or many of the other bells and whistles of other notes apps. I just need info at the ready. Whether about my car’s purchase details or its service history’, dates of doctor’s visits, a serial number and other info about my computers and devices... I keep lists of favorite quotes, ideas and thoughts, song lyrics, recipes... just about anything. Simplenote syncs instantly and flawlessly between my Mac, iPhone, and iPad. And, of course, everything is always available on the the website of my account. I’ve depended on this app for several years. I’ve looked at other note keeping apps but the utter simplicity and elegant performance of Simplenote fulfills my needs. I love this app.
Perfect
by Jetmir Mjeku on 2017/03/05 15:11
After checking this app in all of my devices (iPod, iPad, Nexus 5X and Windows 10 PC), I am more than happy with its quality. It has a simple and beautiful design. The accessibility is pragmatic and easy. I think the most important thing is the fact that it's connected to your email. It allows access in all of your devices, immediate syncing and most importantly complete assurance that data will not be lost. You can also change the theme to a dark one. It can help your eyes and it looks beautiful for those who prefer a darker look. If you have got a FingerPrint device you can use the fingerprint instead of a password (at least for the Google smartphones). Just like its name, this app is good for anyone who wants to take simple notes. I am commenting after a long time looking for a good notes app that is functional, has a good accessibilty and is easy to use. I have tried around 20 apps and I prefer Simplenote the most.
Perfect for my notes
by alol4716 on 2019/05/30 17:54
I truly appreciate the simplicity and usability of this app, and how easily it syncs across multiple devices. The History function for each note is particularly a life-saver, because it lets me go back and see what I had written previously, time-machine style. Overall, a fantastic app, and I hope that it continues to grow and become more widely used. It’s actually quite mind-blowing that we can get this degree of functionality for free on a notes app! There’s only one thing that I wish Simplenote would incorporate to make it that much easier for use across a large number of notes, and that is to be able to use nested tags. I don’t need anything fancy in the way of formatting the actual text, but it would just take it completely to the next level in terms of organizing notes there was some way for Simplenote to incorporate a hierarchical structure.
Is what it is
by MisterMellow001 on 2017/05/21 03:36
There's something elegant about an app that does what it does simply and instantly, with no bloated features. I use this app every day, and more than any other notes app. Sure, it's not Evernote, but at least it's notes aren't in a proprietary format. If you need your notes app to be more like Pinterest then this app isn't for you. But if you just need to jot down an idea, book or movie recommendation, quotes, etc. it's a joy to use. I can find any of my hundreds of notes by simple keyword search. They're all there, even the ones from the Notational Velocity days (when there was no Mac version of Simplenote. (Notational Velocity is also a fine Mac app). Simple is no joke; it's almost too good to be true – no in-app purchase B.S., no endless feature meddling, no subscription, no surprises. Think about how irritating all that stuff is.. now open Simplenote and breathe a sigh of relief.
Exactly what it says on the tin
by Flamingjellyfish on 2019/09/28 01:42
Simple, functional app. The tags are nice. Not a lot of extras, but very easy to use if all you want to do is write notes. Syncs across devices. UPDATE: I still use this app every day, it's one of the best, most useful apps in existence. UPDATE: Yeah, I don’t remember when I first wrote this review, but I still use this app every day. I think back in the dark ages I used to walk around with a small notebook and a pen in my pocket? This is much better. I write down ideas, to-do lists, symptoms of my chronic illness, drafts, reminders. Just, everything. If I decide I want something somewhere else, it’s easy to copy and paste the text. And even though I use it for so much, the search feature makes it easy to find anything. I used to have a comment about syncing across devices sometimes being delayed, but I haven’t noticed that in a long time so I guess it doesn’t happen any more? I started using this app because sometimes for whatever bizarre reason I have trouble syncing Notes between my phone and my laptop. I somehow get signed in with different email addresses or something? Notes is a good app, but SimpleNote is better. I cannot say enough good things about this app. Super reliable, I don’t think I’ve ever lost a single note or not been able to access my notes when I wanted to.
Best little app, for 5+ years now
by Etana_f on 2019/07/28 13:54
My go-to app for a quick note. I use it on my MacBook online, my iPhone, & my iPad. I use it with nvAlt Notational Velocity on my MacBook, which syncs perfectly. Very quick and simple. Perfect searching, no need to save. So much better than Apple simple text. Always handy. I have probably 500 notes that don't need fancy formatting, and are immediately at hand when I need them. I share notes with my spouse. Travel plans, quick storage of plane ticket or theatre ticket info, computer registrations and error messages, book lists. Medical issues, internet links to remember. Anything that's on my mind, I can store in a SimpleNote . I also use EverNote and Apple Notes, but find I use SimpleNote 95% of the time, as long as I don't need a photo or spreadsheet formatting. Search function is good. Automatic save is great. No complaints!
Oldie but goodie
by soflachick on 2020/01/08 15:34
This was one of the first apps I installed on my iPhone after iPhones debuted. It was simple. You wrote a note in the app and it saved the note. The app didn't allow markdown or pinning or anything extra at first so I kept searching for the perfect notes app. Over time, I continued to use this app and remmended it to friends and family. Today, many years later, this app is one of a few apps in constant rotation on my iPhone as it's reliable and just works as the developers say it will. I never worry about losing notes in this app. The app can't be all things to all people and I'm glad the developers didn't bloat the app with a bunch of features that users like me might have thought necessary (initially 😉). With constant use, you learn to appreciate the simplicity of this app. Thanks for the app and keep up the good work!
No Other App Is As Effectively Targeted At Its Purpose
by goodtutor on 2018/12/23 19:30
For me, the single best feature of this app is the speed and reliability of its sync function. I am continuously working with six devices, some portable, some not, in different locations. If I put a piece of text into SimpleNote on any device that has an internet connection, I know that it will be available everywhere within a minute or two at most. As a result, I consider it the safest, fastest way to distribute information among my devices. This efficiency is very likely a direct result of the app’s limitations. You can’t do anything complicated on this app. No images. No audio files. No nesting. No due dates, alerts, or alarms. No style or font or size options. It is built to do one thing only: record, store, and distribute reasonably sized chunks of text. As a result, indispensable.
stealth power feature: publishing
by Ignatius_J_Reilly on 2019/02/21 04:18
Simplenote is a nice, basic markdown-equipped notes app with solid sync, a good clean look and feel, and unlike some others (Bear, Notes) is cross-platform. This means you can collaborate on Simplenote documents with people on any platform, not just Mac or iOS. You can think of it as a much lighter weight and more streamlined alternative to bloated Google Docs. But also, Simplenote’s got a killer trick none of the others have: the ability to very quickly publish any note with a public URL. This makes it lightning fast and easy to publish a note that’s easy to share with anyone who can get to a web browser. Bonus power move if you use Pocket: create a note in Simplenote, publish it, and add the URL to Pocket. I’ve used this to quickly save text from a PDF or any document that’s not readable by Pocket.
Excellent first impression
by ntropi on 2017/02/28 16:59
I've had the app for about an hour and I am manually transferring notes from the generic notes app to Simplenote. I kept losing notes in that other app so I knew I had to stop using it. Simplenote anticipated my ability to accidentally delete notes and it automatically uploads the note to someplace online. I don't know if it is possible for me to easily delete a note with Simplenote. The only concern I have is how this can be free. I did not read the entire privacy policy and there is nothing in my notes that would lead to my identity being stolen, so other than the ordinary paranoia there is no serious concern. Having said that, there are no ads and no fee for the app. My info gets saved in the cloud and I know there is a cost for that. So how does Simplenote get money to support the app? Just sayin'.
Best app
by Diana.McCall on 2019/09/20 16:39
I use Simplenote every day to record all sorts of things. I first chose it for multi-platform iOS/Android capability. And since it offers a web interface, you can access notes from many other devices without needing an app. I don't need or use the multi-media features of the Apple Notes app, so Simplenote is a perfect fit. The Tags feature is great for organizing stuff. I use a Current tag for items I use daily, while also tagging them with categories, like Music, Sports, years, etc., so I can quickly reference them through those alternative views (each note can have multiple tags). The Search feature works within a tag category, so you can limit the search. Support is good too. They listen to users and actually make improvements.
Flexible on All my OS and devices!
by garylmills on 2019/08/21 09:53
I am a Pastor and use Simplenote on Linux Ubuntu and Windows 7 duel boots on my 2 laptops. I use an iPad mini and my iPhone 8 with iOS 12. Each device gives me access to different resources for study so I needed a document app to give be the flexibility. It is the only free app that I found that use that crosses all the os platforms I use on all my devices. I prepare all my messages, can copy and paste all my Bible verses and quotes into Simplenote, keep it separate from other documents, close it on one device and open it on another device an when finished print it out from any device desire. I store a lot of resources on its pages and can copy a duplicate on the cloud for safekeeping. I have no idea from Simplenote what my storage limits are. I am grateful for this tool. Gary
Simplicity at its best
by cinemakinoeye on 2020/02/11 12:23
For many years I’ve used Notes under MacOS but recently I have started to do more work on a Windows PC so I now find myself working on on different devices throughout the day: an iPad, an iPhone, the Windows PC, and a MacBook Pro. With Simplenotes I have access to all of my notes no matter what device I’m currently on. Syncing is fast and the interface is clean and the functionality is just right. If I need formatting I can use Markdown which is simple too once you get used to it. A perfect application for keeping track of notes. My only gripes are tags are currently not implemented across all versions and text selection can be a little sluggish on the MacOS version but I assume that will eventually get fixed. All in all a wonderfully simple app.
Son, this notes app is tops.
by polypile on 2019/09/02 13:09
I tell you what. I used to use a different notes app. Then I used another one. But neither one of them did the job. They were both flawed. You know what their problem was? They got too fancy. They tried too hard. I guess it’s a little bit obvious to say the big strength of Simplenote is how simple it is. Well, sometimes the obvious thing is all there is to say. My notes sync between my devices nice and fast, the interface isn’t a mess, and there aren’t a bunch of bells and whistles making it start up slow or run slow or stop freeze on me. Once in a while I wish I could organize my notes with nested files instead of tags. But I don’t spend a whole lot of time thinking about that. Simplenote works just fine.
My most used app
by simple lover of notes on 2018/08/20 18:21
I never enjoyed writing papers. I wasn’t even very good at it. Never considered myself a writer. But I noticed the urge to make lists, so I found this free cloud based note taking app called simplenote and downloaded it on my iPhone. I started keeping lists of jokes I hear, movies I want to watch, books I want to read, places I want to visit. The process of keeping lists has expanded to the daily urge to jot down notes and ideas. Often, these ideas that started as a few words turn into scroll-to-read paragraphs. What do I do with all those ideas and thoughts? I’m not yet sure about the answer to that question yet. In any case, what I do know is that I have access to a tool that allows me to keep my ideas in one place. I can write them and access them quickly and instantly. I can pull up the simplenote web app and add to the ideas I took on mobile, because the phone app synchronizes your notes in the cloud so you can access them from anywhere. I’m not worried about losing my notes because even if I lose my phone, they are stored safely in the cloud. Simplenote is my favorite app and I use it more than 5 times per day.

With every recent IOS update, the Simple Note app adopts this new crash-upon-opening feature which is likely a deal breaker for many. By “simply” deleting the app and reinstalling it, fixes the issue immediately. Beyond this bug that needs attention STAT, this is my preferred app for notes over several of the other biggest names in notes apps, including Apple’s built-in and the one w the elephant symbol. It should be stated that their customer support team members, response times, and results are extremely impressive. Not sure how the other apps weigh in on this issue but SN is hard to beat there. The app has a “word search” feature which is essential for my purposes and the reason I ended up sticking with it... Worth it and 7/10 ~ < would/will be 8-9/10 when crash bug is sorted >
Totally excellent! Sync feature is AWSOME.
by mattsota on 2017/02/23 01:15
I've used Simplenote for over a year now. The biggest feature for me is auto syncing with the website. I'll jot a note online at work, then pull it up on my phone and it's there. Then I get home and update a list on my laptop. Simplenote keeps everything in sync, and fully available all the time. The search feature works great. And it even saves backup versions. I've had times where I intentionally removed something from a note, only to later realize I needed it. You can view the last N number of revisions (I don't know how many) - it's really saved me! My only feature request would be the ability to color-code notes. Otherwise this is THE APP to get for note-taking!
'Simple' is right - and it works perfectly.
by lwdphotos on 2018/10/27 07:48
There's a time and place for complicated software but making a note to get a hinge at the hardware store isn't one of them. That's where Simplenote excels. It's quick, it's easy, and you can read it or write it anywhere.A note you write goes instantly to the server and you - or someone who has the password can read it simultaneously with your writing it anytime. People whom I've mentioned it to have told me that they can do that on their Mac with Apple SuchandSuch and I don't doubt them, but the beauty of Simplenote is that it's atheistic, i.e., you don't need any specific system to use it. I've had it for as long as Automattic has put it out there - for free!!! - and I love it!
A Superpower for Serious Note Takers

I wish I knew about this App before
by Immagina53 on 2019/10/15 06:10
I wish I knew about this App before, because I have used over the years unhappily multiple software and apps that complicated the process of writing notes. All of them focused only on the formatting and forgot the most important part which is: . Simplification of the writing process to empower the user to focus on content and not much on the look and formatting, . the use of the concept and methodology of Single Source of the data, . and its availability across all platforms and devices. With Simplenote, now I am able to write my notes, any notes, about anything, and they synch perfectly across phones and computers! I am testing and trying the App, and therefore I am learning the details of how to use it. But the desired core functionality is already more than enough to get me motivated in writing my stuff, and keeping all my notes in ONE place as it should be. I may need to refresh my markdown skills to apply to my notes, or use an XML editor for Mac/Windows, but I am very happy with this tool. Please keep up the good work! Thank you Simplenote for this great App! Abraham
Great app for notes
by michaeld16 on 2018/12/13 04:53
I have used this app for about 2 years now. It has been an absolute 5 star app. I write notes to myself a lot about things I read, or fixing things, or short lists to buy, or recipes, or one of many other reasons to make a note about something. I have started book reviews on them, outlined sermons on it, made sermon notes on it, made notes for podcasts. It is instantly synced with my laptop, which is great. It is all backed up on the server, so I haven’t lost any notes when changing phones or devices. It has been rock solid and I highly recommend it. It works on every platform and I can easily share my thoughts with someone else. What more can you ask for?
Best Notes app for IOS Devices
by Webber,G on 2017/12/04 01:49
I started off by using the Evernote app as my primary notes program and Apple Notes as a backup. After Evernote deteriorated to the point that it became useless I started using Apple Notes as my primary notes program and Simplenote as my backup. I liked Simplenote so much it became my primary notes app. I prefer Simplenote because it highlights the text entered in the search box. Evernote also highlights search text but it’s so slow on IOS devices that it’s worthless. I can’t understand why the Evernote developer allowed the program to become useless. It used to be a great program. Oh well, with Simplenote both Notes and Evernote are unnecessary.
Can sync better btn devices
by paulinechoi on 2019/08/27 02:00
I was writing a story in this app in the NYC metro, with on and off data service. I came home and open up my ipad to continue writing it, but the story wasn't updated, it only showed the begining where I wrote yesterday. So i opend my iphone and the freshly written story was there for 0.1 second and then it reverted back to the begining as the iPad. I lost the story I wrote for 1 hour on the train ride. It's not bad I can write again, but it is annoying. I expected this app to sync seamlessly btn devices like Apple's note app. Apples note was synching great except it got really slow when a note gets really long. I really want to keep on using Simplenote which usually runs smoother with longer text so please fix it so it syncs better and more instantly and KNOW which point of time to syn to btn devices!!
Best simplistic, easy to use note app!
by Drummerkid51 on 2019/04/04 19:06
I’m the type of person to spend more time researching an app than actually using it, but Simplenote is one I keep coming back to. Apple’s Notes app is fine and dandy, but I needed something I can use to easily transfer text/links from my phone to my Windows desktop, or anything for that matter. Notes isn’t easy or quick for that. Pocket is great for links, but not for simple text, such as tracking numbers, etc. The fact that your data is stored on the cloud, is easy to get to, has excellent tagging, and is cross-platform makes it one of the best note apps available. And the best part is that it’s free. 10/10 would recommend.
Amazing!
by Sienna Laverne on 2018/11/23 15:00
For a few months, I’ve been looking for notepads. I’ve tried a few and gave up. I’ve used Google Docs, Memo Notepad, the notepad that comes with my iPhone, etc. Well, they didn’t work out too well for me. One was laggy, one wouldn’t save my notes, one would change the font/letter sizing at random times, and one wouldn’t even let me start a new note. Well, the other day I was stressing about not having a good notepad. One of my closest friends introduced me to Simplenote and I instantly fell in love with the app! It’s so organized, helpful, and won’t do any of the stuff with my past notepads. It is really helpful for work and it’s truly amazing. I can’t wait to see the future for Simplenote!
Simple
by Nap H on 2017/07/03 03:39
Easy and efficient to use. Once you find your way around you can reorder tags, pin notes to the top, restore deleted notes, access older versions of a notes, and alphabetize notes. I wish it had folders but you can organize by using tabs. You can even use multiple tags for a note. It has a great search function. You can add web addresses to your notes that actually link to the site. Simplenote has an extension that allows you to share with other apps. It syncs flawlessly with multiple devices. Great design. I would like to see some formatting features in future updates such as numbered and bullet lists, maybe checklists.
A bit to simple
by Heftybags on 2018/09/05 14:47
Don’t get me wrong this is a really good note taking app there is a lot of stuff to like, it’s fast, syncs across devices, dark theme, passcode / fingerprint security, it even has tagging which is more advanced option not found in the default notes app. With all that my complaint it’s just a little bit to simple I can’t add a picture to a note, there is no basic formatting such as bold or underline and can’t create a checklist, none of these have to be advanced options buried in menus they can be added right above the keyboard. I really want this to be my main note taking app but I’m in no means a power user that needs something like Evernote or Notability. I just need a simple note taking app with very basic options and features that include just a bit more than only text.
Simplenote- things made simple
by RaviKon on 2018/12/09 18:02
I love this app. I have been a premium user of Evernote ever since it was launched; though I like Evernote for it’s syncing features, I thought it is a overkill when it comes to taking quick notes. I was looking for a simple and basic app for notes taking and came across Simplenote; it is kind of love at first sight. I really liked it’s simple interface while at the same time loaded with some useful features such as syncing across all my devices, spellchecking (which was added recently) , publishing, pinning , collaboration etc .. though I haven’t used all of those yet .. it is a must app for people like to take notes . Thank you
Love the app
by Dr H 04 on 2019/08/19 12:34
This app is clearly the best for the way I use it. Because I can password protect the app I can have multiple documents with sensitive information. It’s easy enough to use that I use it taking notes in meetings, church, to do list, etc. It imports directly from the YouVersion Bible app sermon notes so I can just add my thoughts during the service. Because my computer and phone sync, I can go in on my laptop when I’m in the office and clean anything up I want and then have it permanently in the updated version available on my phone. Again, I love it. I really appreciate the energy, professionalism and expertise the developers have invested to make this app so terrific. Thanks Dr. H
Amazing app
by Mike000000000000007 on 2019/06/21 22:49
I like this app. It is probably the best way to simplify cloud note taking. It runs fast. It has an intuitive interface. The data syncs reliably. The font and the color theme work well together. There is one thing missing though that would make all the difference if they would add it and thats folders. Tags simply aren't as fast as folders. They could do folders in a similar manner to how they have done individual notes and it would fit nicely. Imagine folders as word links just like they have notes as word links. Besides this the app is just right for what a note app needs. Thank you simplenote developers for keeping it simple.
I am publishing a book written on this app.
by yl2504 on 2018/07/31 14:09
I’m a writer who switched from Notes to using Simplenote about three years ago because I was looking for a no-frills and reliable cloud-syncing text editor that had both mobile and desktop versions. Because of the seamless syncing and the revision history feature, I wrote a manuscript while commuting, traveling, and generally living my life. That manuscript won a prize, and now I have a book coming out in April 2019. I hope that future versions will help the search indexing for long term users like me, and maybe the ability to pick different fonts. But otherwise it’s basically perfect. Cheers, and thanks.
Consistently good
by alienlogic on 2018/12/09 03:33
Note taking apps are a saturated category, especially on iOS. Simplenote has been quietly, consistently good for years, especially with cross-platform support and syncing. This makes it easy to cross “note taking app” off the checklist when trying to decide what OS ecosystem, or what combination of desktop and mobile, is going to suit your needs. It might not do if you require an advanced feature set, but then you are arguably out of the note-taking apps category at that point. If there is any wishlist item, it would be a premium tier. Even $10 a year, just to be sure the app is sustainable well into the future.
It works and works well - but not for every user.
by Sedona Mojo on 2018/12/26 20:48
I write professionally and for pleasure, at least 10,000 words a month, and I almost always write in a text editor rather than a word processor - I pity people who write in Word. I've been using Simplenote since it was a paid service, before Automattic bought it. I use it regularly, but I also use Standard Notes and Scrivener. The pros: it is lightweight, cross-platform, fast, simple, and outputs clean text, ready for pasting into WordPress. The cons: Synchronization almost always works - so yikes when it doesn't - and once a document gets up to 10,000 words or so, it gets slower, and at 20k words it becomes unusable. Also, there's no encryption, as in Standard Notes. I love that it is free, but I always wonder what happens to apps that don't have an income stream to support their continued development. I'd gladly pay $20/year for the cloud storage component. Bottom line: it's a real bargain, it works well, and for 98% of all writers is all they need. But if like formatted text, encryption, or write long form pieces, Simplenote can only be an adjunct, not your main writing tool.
Great app and so reliable
by Fontfolly on 2019/04/19 22:40
I confess, I switch to this app when another app that offered similar functionality changed to a subscription model that I just couldn’t justify. Even if that subscription hadn’t been prohibitively expensive, SimpleNote is so much better, at least for my use case. I write first drafts of blog posts, scenes for short stories or novels, or take notes at events I’m attending. The interface is clean and doesn’t get in my way always trying to offer me extra features I don’t want. It synchronizes fast over all my devices. It’s just a note taking app, but a darn good one, and that is nothing to sneeze at!
Simplicity to the point
by jmaryn on 2019/06/16 13:16
Simple Note is one of the first note apps I used on the iPad. Easy to use, uncluttered with a nice reading font and look. Search for notes and the list of related notes appear with the search term highlighted in the body of each note. Nice. While a published feature has been added, I would find that future exporting notes in batches to other apps or PDFs would be nice. Maybe even personal book printing (See Day One) Of note collections during the times we use notes as a type of journal. — Well, now I am saying it can be Journal. Not the purpose of simple note taking. Hmmm.
Simple, light and reliable synced notes app
by Just_Me_Too56657 on 2019/12/03 19:02
I've been using Simplenote for a couple of years now, as a companion for the desktop nvALT notes app where I store notes and practice Markdown, and never had a single problem with it - it worked flawlessly from day one, and I'm very happy with it! here's why: - as I mentioned - zero problems. - very lightweight and syncs with icloud very quickly! - very convenient, when you want to leave your desk, but continue what you were doing. I have other note taking apps that for some reason, just won't sync as fast, including a clipboard manager! - consistent - it's been maintained, updated and improved regularly, without hiccups or unpleasant surprises. we all look to improve the way we work, learning new skills and trying new tools, for better and faster, especially with this fast paced technologies... I'm sure you've heard this one before - nothing beats a reliable tool, when you need it! Simplenote - has been exactly it!
The literal perfect note taking app
by NickkWhyy on 2018/12/27 04:57
I was beyond sick of Evernote as it costs money and delivers no unique features that make it worth the cost. Apple's Notes app is better (because it's free) but isn't great either. The various other "note keeping" applications on the appstore are unanimously worse than the two I just mentioned. BUT THIS. This app is simple, clean and easy to use - how many times have you heard that one before? It allows me to focus on what I want to write and that's IT. PLUS it has a desktop version. It's absolutely tremendous. I adore it and I pray it never loses its charm and focus. Well done, Simplenote.
Years and years
by msbel64 on 2019/10/29 22:04
Years and years of using Simplenote ... I mean years. And in all seriousness there has never been another app that comes close to helping me have a living archive of basically my life. It’s intuitive, fast, and the strong clean and immediate. Too long to go into the feature set here, and frankly I probably only use 20% of what I am sure it offers. The tag help me get right to stuff I may have put in years ago - a quote from someone, project plan, music I heard, and on and on and on. Just get it and embrace what it is - simple - note ... the name of the app is all you need to know.
Very useful!
by melville18 on 2019/03/25 16:57
Simplenote is free and cross platform, so it checks two big items on the list for me. It is very simple to learn. You wouldn't think note taking apps would be hard to learn but in my experience a number are not intuitive at all. Simplenote is intuitive. I don’t give apps a lot of time to be learned. Whether it is me or the app, if I haven't figured out the basics right away, I am deleting. Notes in Simplenote are organized by tags so organization is easy. It is not as feature-rich as Bear but my first sentence answers that. I use Bear for the features SN lacks and am satisfied with both.
Reliable, fast, simple, just perfect!
by mmcmsp on 2018/11/28 10:16
Simplenote is the best note app for note taking, period. It's lightweight, cross platform, simple and effective, syncs like breeze... And it's free for real, no in-apps, subscriptions or hidden stuff!!!! I hate that note apps nowadays have so many resources that makes you actually waste more time taking the note than reaching for the old fashion pen... I use it everywhere, everyday, for everything! Personal notes, work drafts, quick copy & paste... Just tap and type and forget. My note is there, everywhere I need. Love it. And I would like to support it paying a fee of gratitude. Thanks.
Great app! Keep great updates coming!
by 1123456$ on 2019/01/01 22:39
Dear Developers of Simplenote, this is a great note taking app. And it’s great for taking notes. But, still keep the great updates coming to make this app even better! I take lots of great notes on this app. And it’s an awesome app for Organizing your notes, and to make them neater. I feel that it really couldn’t be a better app! It’s already an awesome app! Edit:when you are taking notes sometimes, the notes get really messy, so that’s why I didn’t rate it 5 stars. I know you can’t really do anything about that though. Otherwise, it’s a great app! Sincerely, Celeste.
Simplenote is great
by Rbwyatt on 2019/03/28 17:16
I’ve used Simplenote for many years. I find it to be a very efficient way to move text around the array of computational platforms that make up my film and photography creative system. Simplenote is simple but not simplistic. There’s no capability that seems like an afterthought. Every capability that Simplenote offers makes sense and is well thought out. Simplenote is reliable. With all the upgrades to iOS I can’t recall any time when Simplenote was broken. I’ve never lost a sentence or a paragraph that I’ve ever entrusted to Simplenote. I find that impressive. I hope you do too.

Now, when you hear simple it may not sound the most attractive, but by simple I mean the UI is very quick and easy to use.

iOS cursor bug
by Titaniumapple1234 on 2020/11/06 04:29
I’m using Simplenote on 2020 iPad 11 inch and occasionally there’s a bug that doesn’t allow me to click with the cursor (using a Magic Trackpad 2).

That’s it. I’m done.

Simplicity = perfection
by Dogratty on 2020/08/14 13:46
I have tried many Note apps but couldn’t find one that didn’t have useless bells & whistles.

Cross-Platform and Easy to Use
by Jazz-Frog on 2020/03/21 15:12
If you like to save drawings, pictures, videos, and other media, this is not the app for you. But, if you are looking for a digital platform to jot down short notes and messages (so as not to have to many bits of paper lying about) this is a very good one—it’s cross-platform and very easy to use. There is even a ‘night’ mode if you prefer light text on a dark background.

Great app. Fast and simple.

A Superpower for Serious Note Takers
by Sparkey's Dad on 2020/03/26 13:29
Simplenote has become the successor in an illustrious line of note-capture boons that went this way: Day Timer—>Palm Pilot notes—> Blackberry notes—> Evernote—> Simplenote.
THIS APP IS LITERALLY PERFECT

JULY 2020 UPDATE : this app has been freezing A LOT while i’m typing making it very difficult to complete a sentence or thought 😓 i honestly cannot think of one thing that could be changed or added to make this app any better than it already is. it offers so many useful features FOR FREE! it syncs my notes across all of my devices / has an option to require a passcode / has a search function that highlights the word or words being searched / keeps a history of all the changes made to a certain note along with the dates the note was created and edited / allows you to add tags to keep notes organized
Amazing!

Simple

I confess, I switch to this app when another app that offered similar functionality changed to a subscription model that I just couldn’t justify. Even if that subscription hadn’t been prohibitively expensive, SimpleNote is so much better, at least for my use case. I write first drafts of blog posts, scenes for short stories or novels, or take notes at events I’m attending. The interface is clean and doesn’t get in my way always trying to offer me extra features I don’t want. It synchronizes fast over all my devices. It’s just a note taking app, but a darn good one, and that is nothing to sneeze at!
I love this app!

Simplicity to the point

Simple Note is one of the first note apps I used on the iPad. Easy to use, uncluttered with a nice reading font and look. Search for notes and the list of related notes appear with the search term highlighted in the body of each note. Nice. While a published feature has been added, I would find that future exporting notes in batches to other apps or PDFs would be nice. Maybe even personal book printing (See Day One) Of note collections during the times we use notes as a type of journal. — Well, now I am saying it can be Journal. Not the purpose of simple note taking. Hmmm.
Simple, light and reliable synced notes app

I’ve used Simplenote for many years. I find it to be a very efficient way to move text around the array of computational platforms that make up my film and photography creative system. Simplenote is simple but not simplistic. There’s no capability that seems like an afterthought. Every capability that Simplenote offers makes sense and is well thought out. Simplenote is reliable. With all the upgrades to iOS I can’t recall any time when Simplenote was broken. I’ve never lost a sentence or a paragraph that I’ve ever entrusted to Simplenote. I find that impressive. I hope you do too.
