Description
touchosc is a modular OSC and MIDI control surface for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad by hexler. It supports sending and receiving Open Sound Control and MIDI messages over Wi-Fi and CoreMIDI inter-app communication and compatible hardware. The application allows to remote control and receive feedback from software and hardware that implement the OSC or MIDI protocols such as Apple Logic Pro/Express, Ableton Live, Renoise, Pure Data, Max/MSP/Jitter, Max for Live, OSCulator, VDMX, Resolume Avenue/Arena, Modul8, Plogue Bidule, NI Traktor, NI Reaktor, Quartz Composer, Supercollider, vvvv, Isadora and many others. The interface provides a number of customizable touch controls to send and receive messages: Faders / Rotary controls / Encoder controls / Push buttons / Toggle buttons / XY pads / Multi-faders / Multi-push / Multi-toggles / Multi-xy pads / LEDs / Labels / Time & battery displays Additionally the program can send Accelerometer data. The application comes with example layouts and completely custom layouts can be constructed using the free touchosc Editor application. Please see https://hexler.net/touchosc for more information, video demonstrations and download the free layout editor application for macOS, Windows and Linux and the free touchosc Bridge utility to easily control any MIDI-capable application on your computer.
Bravo! This is the missing link
by Cockhat on 2020/09/16 08:13
At least it was for me. Somewhat obsessed with midi controllers and had been tweaking a live loops set up and for some time just always had that 1 button or command that I didn’t want to have to press. I have had like 5-6 of the more well known midi to daw controllers (notation, Akai) and still use those plenty. But this app magnificently does things that none of those controllers can do. This helped me creatively, technically and now I have a lot more flexibility to do more interesting thing in my sets and continue the exploration. I have never written a review before - this app is a must have if you do anything with MIDI

Fixed Long OSC Arguments
by computer savage on 2020/05/07 17:13
Thank you for fixing the long OSC argument bug! This is a huge help. I do have one feature request for the future and that is the ability to send string commands. Thanks for your continued work.
Doesn’t work with Ableton Live :[
by ios livewire on 2020/03/08 09:58
I haven’t been able to get the editor to sync with my iPad. About 60% of the templates that it comes with work. But if your intent is to use the “Live Control” or make your own templates, it didn’t work for me. I even checked all the forums, seems the templates for supporting live 9-10 don’t work. Too bad wanted to use this software... I guess I might have to go back to using “Touchable”. If the Devs would update the Ableton templates and fix the sync issues I will change my review. Wasted too much time I could have spent making music instead of trouble shooting abandoned-ware. Shame has potential.
Long time user
by Vicken_65 on 2020/02/16 02:51
I discovered TouchOSC a few years ago and it was a great idea with all kind of smart tablets and phones out there. I am mainly a Cubase user and tried to program this for a long time until I finally understood how it works (well, maybe 90%). I was able to make a Cubase template that is close to a hardware based surface control costing $600 and above. My template is on Steinberg’s forum site for you to check it out. Some very high end sample library companies even provide templates to be used with their software in Kontakt like Chris Heins Violins. That shows you the capabilities. Like other users here, I would like to see some visual improvements and expanded manual and some good examples. You really need to have a great imagination of what you want to achieve and the possibilities with TouchOSC but for someone who lacks the imagination they will probably pass this on. It is an essential part of my setup and highly recommend this.
This App Is The Best!
by TripleEBrizack on 2020/01/22 14:05
I’d love to see more and more updates to this app. I love it. I use it for just about everything. This is THE GAME CHANGER! I will have everyone i come in contact with using this app! I call it, “The Ultimate Midi Controller”!!!
Not giving up yet 😂
by mixxpitt on 2020/01/19 15:22
I’ve been at this TouchOSC for a few days now, created custom layouts with Toggles, Rotaries, Push Buttons , Faders, XY Pads and Multis to use for virtual instrument libraries within Logic Pro X, Kontakt and other plugins. I am getting the hang of it. Though, it seems that, using TouchOSC over a network connection at times chokes up notes on MacBook Pro 2015 with 16 gigs of ram and SSD Drives. Need to do more trouble shooting with TouchOSC & Osculator. I am thinking maybe Osculator is the culprit here. It would be nice if Hexler would make TOSC USB capable as well. Other than that I like the TOSC. As mentioned in other previous reviews, it would be nice to also have more choice for colors and graphics.
Crashing
by Spagetti2008 on 2019/10/10 13:21
Currently crashing on iPad Pro running iOS 13.2. I absolutely love this app and use it in all of our artist production. Super bummed that it is not stable at the moment!
Love it but broken by iOS 13.2
by Davis P on 2019/10/04 10:21
Self-explanatory. Was working fine, updated to iOS 13.2, now the app crashes on launch. Deleted and reinstalled… No help.
Great tool
by d85f on 2019/08/24 13:14
Worked great on my iPhone se but having problems with it shutting app on my new iPhone 7. Hopeful that I can resolve the issue because it has become a great creative tool
Best $5 spent in the App Store to date
by Mouseish on 2019/07/25 06:08
This application allows me to substitute a large lighting console for a coupe of iPads and has the flexibility for custom building or layouts. Money well spent, this has been quality since first purchased 5 years ago.
Very good program
by Abie Baby Hollon on 2019/07/16 05:10
The user can interface easily, change buttons and more. Just download the programs from the website and use them along with this tool.
Please update for iPhoneX
by JaredButters on 2019/06/24 00:05
I would love it if this could be updated for iPhoneX, thank you!
Pretty Stellar!
by DanKatzLAX on 2019/06/11 14:12
Great and versatile app. Could use some haptic feedback when returning values to zero - or hitting any pre-set value. Would allow less squinting to adjust some smaller dials and sliders when a finger is covering the contact point. Also pre-made templates and software translations to non-midi software like FCPX or Premiere would be valued.
Works great, really ugly!
by WompapmoW on 2019/02/04 02:05
Let me say, this is a fantastic piece of software that works reliably and does everything I might ask for - my 5 star review reflects that. My only complaint (and its a pretty big one) is that it’s UGLY. Controls are limited to a single shape with 8(?) colors to choose from. Let us customize an RGB value for the color. More importantly, let us import our own graphical assets to use as buttons - it would take this app to an entirely new level. Thank you for your work!
Super versatile, great app for experimenters as well as professionals.
by pixpop on 2018/11/18 16:19
I've been using this app since it came out. I use it to control many different hacker-y projects. If you make anything that has a network connection, you can probably use this to control it. I use this mainly with plogue bidule, but it also works with pure data, max, and many other great tools. Well done, and thanks for providing this!
Needs more colour options
by Carbon43 on 2018/10/13 16:31
Great app but developer refuses to add more color options. Could do some amazing things with this platform if the dev was more responsive and accepting of user feedback.
I paid for this?
by blue mosque on 2018/09/01 06:32
The android version is free, has better functionality, and works. iOS version is intermittent even at resolving the host
A funky app, but works like a charm
by theKeets on 2018/08/28 21:53
There was a little bit of a learning curve to set this up, but now that it is, I'm blown away by how powerful it is. I use it to control macros in Keyboard maestro with Sibelius, and to send articulation changes to Logic 10.4. If you want to send standard MIDI data over wifi or USB cable, this is your app!!
My goto OSC app
by Jkrfnofcbkpgv on 2018/05/21 21:07
This is a great app. It has consistently been updated and supported since I started using it a few years ago. Love it!
Ditto
by BeatsbyDiv on 2018/05/20 19:21
There’s a commonality of shared benefit in the reviews for touch osc, we all agree it’s a road tested and studio to stage ready application that just works. It’s so important for your gear to be reliable in live situations and this definitely is. Has been for years. It’s also stable and intuitive which is crucial for anything in the digital domain. You can count on it working, running light and doing what you want. That’s invaluable to me.
First day using the app and my life has already gotten better.
by Larsenthearson on 2018/04/28 02:03
After downloading the editor and importing the layout for the hog 4 by high end systems. It was easy to set up and after playing with it for a couple hours I figure out how to designed my own layout that was a plot of one of the sets on the show I’m working on. I used buttons that when pushed would trigger a keystroke macro that would add the channel(s) into my command line. Having the control and efficiency that this app has enabled is amazing for how inexpensive it is. It was money well spent!
Nice app
by dkdelivery on 2018/04/24 01:09
App is nice. But need better support. I emailed them 2 times with no response. 1 star for support. 5 stars for app

One of the greatest apps ever made! FEEL THE POWAH
Can’t beat it!
by guitarmasterALO on 2017/12/19 03:05
This app is amazing. You should definitely have a little networking knowledge and controller mapping basic knowledge to use. But still easy enough for beginners imo. I’m a dj and use it as a basic light controller. You can design your own templates with OSC Editor. Very cool. Saved me a lot of money in the long run. This app can be used for sooooo many things.
No ableton support
by revmischa on 2017/11/03 03:53
Ableton livecontrol straight up doesn't work anymore.
Great app! NEEDS APPLE WATCH SUPPORT
by Estuardo Morales on 2017/09/25 22:04
Hey guys, I know this is a long shot and probably a lot of work, but is there any way you guys can create an Apple Watch version of this app? It would not need all the benefits that you get with the iPad or iPhone, but it'd give you the opportunity to have a couple of Buttons and maybe a slider or knob right there in your wrist ready to go! You guys and your app rocks!
Wow
by vince-ena on 2017/09/25 06:26
Holy jeez, this is amazing. Clearly a lot of hard work and dedication on the developers' part. Very well worth the purchase cost.
Solid app for control in ableton
by Addicted 2 Rio on 2017/08/08 08:19
I have used midi hardware for a long time, but like most rigs, hardware gets heavy to lug around to gigs. This was the best find I have ever had. Always customizing my templates to fit my style of djing in ableton made this app a no brainer. Love it, simple, straight, customizable like my current templates, made my evolution easier and lighter 😉. Great app, thank you 😊👍
I Love TouchOSC

Great for Hog4 virtual control!
by JePayne_ on 2017/06/27 08:30

Works brilliantly with Max
by lipton_lover on 2017/06/26 14:57
I use TouchOSC as a customizable interface that I can integrate into my Max patches and this update just makes it even more flexible. Thanks for an indispensable tool!
Most Versatile Controller
by dj_orion on 2017/06/26 09:49
I've used TouchOSC for some years now and it's never let me down. I've controlled all kinds of things from music to visual apps to light fixtures, from small projects to large. It's especially useful for highly personalized projects that need to be controlled with osc and or midi.
Still one of the best custom control apps
by jronamuzik on 2017/06/25 16:22
TouchOSC has been around a while, and a lot of competing apps have come along since. Yet we still use TouchOSC for straight forward and flawless app control throughout our studio. It's got a very quick learning curve, and does pretty much everything you need for streamlined studio and live control. Couldn't live without it.
Crap
by Matt198100000000 on 2017/02/05 22:13
Been trying to use this for years all the scripts come from different sources and have 100 dif names. If you use ableton just don't waist your energy, it's completely unreliable live anyway
Excellent !!!!

GARBAGE
by dasani08810 on 2016/07/06 03:53
Good luck getting this garbageware to connect consistently with any router or AP. I've tried several, and this crapware has never let me down on my low expectations. If I could give it less than one star, I would.

Simply great software
by Thisisart on 2016/03/30 11:10
This will turn your iOS device into a legitimate midi controller for apps like Ableton Live. I connect to my laptop through WIFI using the OSCulator app on my desktop, which converts the app into usable MIDI CC messages. Great for impressing the crowd on-stage using WIFI for a wireless midi controller. Believe me, this is a gold mine waiting to be tapped. Get this. I've had this app for years and it's delivered 100% in terms of stability and usability. Cheers to the developers, thanks for a great product.

by SirPubert on 2015/12/14 02:52
Most of all connectivity and support are optimal for my generation 5 and 1 early's so tyvm. The device can now be touched, well done! Can you add support for input output through software? That is where this program is not a USB device or even some of the docks for iPad with. I/O so it is a bit of a trade off

Crashes immediately on launch.
Practically useless atm
by classicalpianist on 2015/11/17 14:34
I only managed to get the coremidi connection working, but like others cannot get the touchosc bridge to receive midi data. The website is very unintuitive, and livecontrol does not function and so ableton live is rendered useless. I am able to get the Simple template to work, but only using coremidi. My advice to the creator is to address these problems and also create a more intuitive website, as this is not currently the case.
Works with Max/MSP
by Sky-SF on 2015/11/17 02:16
Took me about 5 minutes to configure this to use OSC to talk to Max/MSP 7.0.6. Very easy. I’ve been playing ever since.
Logic Pro X
by Leelinde on 2015/10/27 22:44
I have been trying to get this app working with my DAW for 4+ hours. I've downloaded every single piece of software their labyrinthian site laid out for me. I've scrolled through countless forums full of people saying they just had to tinker until they got it. I'm tired of tinkering. I just want it to work so I can track my vocals. I managed to get the signals working on their "Simple" template... I'm convinced I'm doing something wrong. A brilliant idea ruined by a convoluted set-up
Worthless for Ableton Live users
by Boris Rio on 2015/10/02 04:09
It requires a very complicated setup to begin with, following instructions with outdated screenshots. LiveControl 2 just doesn't work and there's no support. Don't waste your money with this app if Ableton Live is your favorite DAW.
Great App
by Bdl567826 on 2015/10/01 13:47
This works great for driving devices of all kinds through Arduino.
ETC EOS lighting control
by TomCR4C on 2015/08/10 16:40
This works great with the latest ETC software that includes OSC. A little trial and error connecting with board but that was mostly settings in the ETC software.
Great but
by Shawwzerner on 2015/04/29 00:25
The templates and controls are really good. But i cant connect to the Touchosc bridge on my mac or pc. It wont launch no matter what i do. So can you please update it pr something to make it work better.PLEASE!!!!! ¡!!!!!!!!!!.
Not compatible with the new iPhones.
by BWSullivan on 2015/02/25 17:18
The app is great, you get more persuasion touch on the new iPhone 6 and 6 plus. But would love (and would put 5 stars) if updated and optimised!
Great App!
by Rick Hinton on 2015/01/21 13:51
I'm not sure why the others had issues with this, all the required software is on the developers site. I downloaded this app because I needed a custom midi mapping tool for our praise and worship band. After downloading, I went to the developers site for the manual and found the other two pieces of software needed on my Mac to make it work (TouchOSC Bridge and TouchOSC Editor). I spent a grand total of three hours on it and now have a totally customized controller designed for what I needed. I can see that I will be creating many more templates!
Many bugs with Ableton; poor support
by CloudvonDoom on 2015/01/20 15:11
I was excited to use this app, but the set up with Ableton was very tedious and had to figure a lot of stuff out for myself; eventually had to resort to downloading other software just to get it to work at all. Everything worked except the x/y axis controllers, and when I contacted support, it took over a week for them to get back with me. They just said "we just want to confirm that TouchOSC works without OSCulator installed" and then referred me to another type of software called Live Control. I replied that it didn't work at all without OSCulator, and haven't heard back from them since. I have moved on and now am using Lemur.
Live control doesn't work!?
by Oreo cak5ter on 2015/01/16 06:31
Guys, please please please! Fix the live control layout. Every layout works with Ableton Live BUT the live control layout. Killing me here!! Please update
So happy this exists
by ktriton on 2014/12/23 00:55
Unbelievably versatile and easy to use
Please update!!
by Tippatappatappa on 2014/12/03 15:31
I use this app regularly, as I like the minimalist design over Lemur's GUI. When it works, it works ok. Initial setup was kind of a pain to get it to control Ableton...had to piece together info from some outdated tutorials on YouTube...find the legacy version of the original LiveControl from Liine (LiveControl 2 will not work here!!! Wish it would...)...and hope that it won't freeze up on me while using it on my iPad Air. The main problem I have with it is that I'm unable to multitask while running LiveControl on it -- jumping over to other music apps and then back causes it to freeze up / become unresponsive, where I have to shut it down, relaunch and reconnect with my desktop. So...I have to have a dedicated iPad just for running this (with no multitasking), and another for running other music apps. PLEASE INCLUDE "RUN IN BACKGROUND" IN FUTURE UPDATE!! Lemur has that... It's been over a year since the last update. Until I feel the developer isn't abandoning this and will start addressing issues and start implementing new improvements....1 star from me. Other than "Run in Background", I would request a larger color palette or color wheel in the editor for custom colors. As well as updated / improved continuity in connecting TouchOSC with Ableton...if possible, adding compatibility with LiveControl 2. Please! I'm hopeful for this app yet...
Umm get lemur
by Ndindindi on 2014/07/22 19:16

Garbage
by iPod/iPhone App Reviews on 2014/06/08 06:24
Spent an entire evening trying to get this to work with Traktor. It does not work, terrible instructions, you need bits and pieces of other software in order to make this work. I had to install Quartz in order to make something work for "pd extended". So i could change the IP address. After all of that it still does not work. How do I change it back now on my computer? A complete mess. The editor does not work I have an iPhone 4S and a MacBook Pro. You guys can't write software that works for those?!? Is this app no longer supported? Has anyone gotten this to work with traktor?
Useless in logic 9
by MorrisK on 2014/04/24 02:14
The controls that are there are great - unfortunately, there is nothing to indicate what bar you're on, and no way to locate to a specific bar. You can use markers, if you've set them, but there's no visual of the transport. I can eq and set fx from my phone - like I'm going to do that - but I don't know where I am till I hit play and listen, and I can't locate to a bar. Lame.
Good, but please make TCP!
by TuRtel1989 on 2014/04/05 17:12
Very usefull and easy to use and setup app! Love the way it just works. But there would be much more implementations if there would be TCP Network option instead of just good old UDP. Thank you!
text on buttons not showing on iphone version?
by Choice the DJ on 2014/04/04 10:17
great app overall, but for some reason I can't see the text overlay on the "menu" buttons on the iphone version. I thought it was my template, but it happens with all the out of the box templates as well. otherwise great in what it was designed to do!
CANNOT BELIEVE
by Calyx44 on 2014/01/29 00:12
How many different parameters are Premapped for Ableton with LiveControl. Configuration is simple and takes only seconds. Works perfectly using Iphone 4s to control Ableton Live 9 suite(9.1 and beta) running Vista on a Dell Inspiron 1525 over Ad-Hoc. Installing Loopbe1 worked instantly to get TouchOSC pads and keys to send midi (could Not get PureData, Midi Yoke, or the osc bridge to work for me). Tested by controlling tracks in 2nd floor bedroom studio while walking down to 1st floor kitchen and back. No Noticable lag or dropout anywhere. Now I need an iPad.
mind-blowing
by mattsawyer77 on 2013/12/04 05:56
I bought this app primarily to control Propellerhead Reason. I quickly realized that there are no built-in templates for Reason, and to create them myself would require an exorbitant amount of time and effort. Then I found a separate product called RetouchDuo which is specifically made for TouchOSC and Reason. Though it's $45 it's absolutely worth it. The amount or control and live feedback that you get with it is more powerful than midi controllers I've seen that cost way more. It would be nice if TouchOSC included these templates, so I almost gave it 4 stars. But I am so impressed I'm leaving it at 5 for now.
Difficult to set up
by mkatsaounis on 2013/12/04 02:47
I haven't been able to set up this app with ableton 9 yet. Most tutorials I've found are not up to date. Please post a recent tutorial on your website.
Good, One thing though.
by Mu5icalReality on 2013/11/25 17:24
When I first got this app, it confused me on how I could route it to ableton. Then I discovered OSCulator. It lets you route OSC signals to midi notes and such. It works great. The only thing I think this app needs is a layout editor within. The app. The one on the computer is great, but you can't use it on the go. I think it would be awesome to have a layout editor for the mobile versions. It would make the 4.99 I spent even more worth it.
Perfecto!
by Maksimbatyunin on 2013/11/19 00:44
Awesome app. Highly recommend to everybody. No need to set it up, or spend time trying to figure how to hook it up! Works perfect!
Can't run a show without it
by DVkid on 2013/11/16 18:49
In event production, it is crucial to be able to react to ever-changing scenarios. Being able to drive MIDI lighting consoles over wifi from anywhere in the venue is a huge help in getting everything just right. And the customization of the interface makes literally anything possible.
Could be better.
by E=ME2 on 2013/10/05 10:04
This is an amazing MIDI Controller. Out of box, you can control Logic Pro X and Live 9 directly. There are two presets for these two DAW. That is great news for me, 'cause they are my favorites. But I still have a beef about TouchOSC. I wish dev could change how the knobs react when you touch them. For now, any touch will change the knob. It is very easy to mess up your setup. Logic Remote has a better solution. TouchOSC should learn from it. For this I rate TouchOSC 4 stars.
Ableton 9 loves this app!
by SeñorKittles on 2013/10/02 20:30
It took a little fanangaling to get everything working, but this is one of my favorite apps. If you're using Live 9, there are three things you need to download on your Mac in addition to this app on your iPhone/iPad. Get the TouchOSC Editior, TouchOSC Bridge, and LiveControl version 1. Most links for LiveControl are for version 2, but version 1 is what you need for Live 9.
set up, etc.

i imagine set up would be difficult for people not accustomed to mucking around in network settings and this sort of thing. i found it fairly straight forward by following the instructions on the website. with the iPad Logic Remote as an easy alternative, i imagine these developers of TouchOSC will have to up their game though. given the price and the potential (i see this as having great potential, not unlike Logic Remote), this gets 4 stars. make switching to new preset layouts easier and provide more explicit videos for set up, and i will be forced to give this app 6 stars. ok, not possible, but you know what i am saying.
Great Apps
by Sevenjude on 2013/07/22 13:03
First up , you definitely smashed it with the design controls and response, love the third party plugin support, and also hanks for not being greedy its way below the price of the other alternatives. My suggestion would be for more colour options when designing custom layouts maybe a glow that interacts with the tempo,oh and up the marketing I found lemur and touchable first before I even knew touch Osc existed. But all in all great job, and looking forward to killer updates. ....also can you only control one midi channel via the virtual keyboard or is there a way to set it to swtich to different midi channels so that it doesnt play multiple at the same time..thanks
Fantastic alternative controller
by Pwolke on 2013/07/13 15:52
4 out of 5 stars as its not an app that is easy to learn. But, if you're into controllers for your DAW or music production utilizing OSC, this is a no brainer. The site's documentation is pretty well laid out. The app has a lot of feature, just not as pretty as the bells and whistles you might get with a more polished app. But I kinda prefer the stripped down approach to the interface – keeps you focused on the task at hand instead of just being pretty graphics. I use this app in conjunction with Logic 9 Pro, Reason and Reaper.
Good as it gets
by Chaosmouse on 2013/07/12 06:39
Why spend buku bucks on a lemur when you can use your current phone or tablet? I've bought this on google play and the App Store and I still feel like I'm getting it for too cheap. The idea of making your own controller was something I always wanted and now that I can do that for $5 without even taking up a USB port in the studio I'm blown away. Whenever I have someone over to collaborate on a track I just hand them a tablet so we don't have to switch seats all the time to get ideas in. This app has saved me tons of time and money!
Inaccessible
by Nas T. on 2013/07/01 18:06
Overly complicated when MIDI designer does all of this right in the app, intuitively. Also, doesn't do sysex.
Wasted 2 hours ... No functionality
by anableps on 2013/07/01 04:28
This was a waste of my money. The documentation is sparse, disorganized, outdated with respect to app/interface changes, etc. I could NOT get it do do anything with Ableton Live. I really tried. Oh, and apparently you'll need to shell out an additional ~$40 for the OS X app/server. The whole thing feels like it was set up by committee than a focused developer. It's incredibly frustrating. Comparatively, I got touchAble and it's server up and running on iPad within 10 minutes... And that works well.
I'M BACK ON MY MEDS, PEOPLE!!

Splendid and STEEP Learning Curve!
by bjs1990peregrine on 2013/06/26 04:13
I agree with the steep learning curve, but don't let that turn you away from this amazing app. I had to read and reread the instructions before I finally got it. It takes patience and a lot of persistence, but once you get it down, the results are completely worth it. Now I can record vocals in a separate room without dashing back and forth from the computer! Nice!
Difficult
by C Sloan on 2013/06/25 02:22
Very difficult to setup, and still do not have it properly setup. No real help from the developers website. If you can get it to fully function, I imagine it is great.
Truly changed the way I mix!
by TheBoss1023 on 2013/06/20 02:51
I've had an iPhone for years and this is the app that finally got me to write a review. Super responsive and customizable interface not to mention it's wireless so it doesn't tie up a USB port which has been incredibly useful. The configuration is a little intimidating at first but this app is amazing. Definitely worth the cost.
Amazing app!
by Cyclophantom on 2013/06/16 16:24
I love this app mainly for its functionality with ableton live 9!! It's great!!! There should be some sort of formal tutorial because it was very difficult to set up
Amazing.
by David Willis on 2013/06/16 03:59
I'm not gonna lie, this app has a steep learning curve. You can't argue with the results and with the price. Once I got this thing going on my MacBook, it floored me how responsive and innovative this app is. Love it.
What?
by brolgray on 2013/06/14 19:37
If you have a PC, forget about it. Trying to get this thing working is like brain surgery. Been following directions for 3 hours. Finally giving up.
Fantastic App
by jrmj on 2013/06/01 04:50
This app is fantastic for the price. Love the editor that allows you to make your own templates. Works great with Pd and supercollider. Amazing! Thanks dev!
Bloody brilliant app

Great
by HuntillaDaKilla on 2013/05/28 03:22
I love this app, I use it on stage with me as another live controller. Once you know how to use it it is really easy. Worth every penny. And thanks for the iPhone 5 update!
unreliable and unsupported
by mtrucco on 2013/05/12 22:46
setting it up can take hours of troubleshooting, and it still won't work reliably that is just on my home network-if I take this somewhere outside of my home network, pretty much forget trying to get it to work. which is a shame…it's a good concept. the developer hasn't released updates to try & fix any of it, it could really use an "auto connect" or something of the like. well, it looks nice. so you get one star for that. but other than that, unreliable & buggy.
Very cool and fun
by Jonnie Sparkel on 2013/05/06 19:26
Doesn't get much better than creating your own functioning midi controller. There is a learning curve, a little studying involved. I love everything about this except no matter what way I connect it to my MacBook Pro there is a weird latency issue. Couldn't hold a steady drum beat for example. But for the price it helps with making a nice beginning sketch of a beat. I use Propellerhead's Reason on late 2011 MBP and touchosc on iPad 3.
Too bad
by LeatherSax on 2013/04/15 07:43
The app looks great, too bad it's use less on iPad. It needs a serious update... The ping drops two minutes into a song and LogicPad stops working and locks up. Most of the time its DOA on start up. I've been over and over the settings to no avail. There seems to be good reviews for this app. But has anyone gotten past two minutes into a project without it crashing ??
Pretty Stellar!
by DanKatzLAX on 2019/06/11 14:12
Great and versatile app. Could use some haptic feedback when returning values to zero - or hitting any pre-set value. Would allow less squinting to adjust some smaller dials and sliders when a finger is covering the contact point. Also pre-made templates and software translations to non-midi software like FCPX or Premiere would be valued.
Ditto
by BeatsbyDiv on 2018/05/20 19:21
There’s a commonality of shared benefit in the reviews for touch osc, we all agree it’s a road tested and studio to stage ready application that just works. It’s so important for your gear to be reliable in live situations and this definitely is. Has been for years. It’s also stable and intuitive which is crucial for anything in the digital domain. You can count on it working, running light and doing what you want. That’s invaluable to me.
Great app, thank you 😊👍
A funky app, but works like a charm
by theKeets on 2018/08/28 21:53
There was a little bit of a learning curve to set this up, but now that it is, I'm blown away by how powerful it is. I use it to control macros in Keyboard maestro with Sibelius, and to send articulation changes to Logic 10.4. If you want to send standard MIDI data over wifi or USB cable, this is your app!!

Revised Review...
by phaelam on 2009/07/26 00:29
I had written I would rewrite my review if I got TouchOSC werking... I feel like a complete idiot, but here it is... TouchOSC is GREAT. Easy to use, easy to setup and SUPER responsive. I use a Novation SL MKII as my main controller, but its XY axis pad has poor sensitivity and response. I substitute it with the XY pad in TouchOSC. FANTASTIC. The phone sits nicely on my controller as well ;) The problem I had was my default Firewall settings. They were blocking the incoming messages from my phone. This is where I feel like a complete dork. A very obvious thing to check that I was overlooking. This is the one step/tip missing from the setup information on the Hexler website. This may be obvious to most, but it is best to include any and all steps in a setup guide. Once that issue was resolved, things werked flawlessly. Thanks for an awesome App/Tool. note: You need OSCulator for your phone to communicate with your computer. To get a registered copy is $20. Without registration you will have interruptions. But it is well worth the money. [this may be a duplicate review as I'm not sure if the first revision submitted correctly]
Nothing short of amazing!
by icemarbles on 2012/04/24 17:31
This app is absolutely incredible. Took me some time to get it properly set up with Ableton, and now I have full control of the DAW using the LiveControl iPad template. If you're looking to set this app up with Ableton on Windows, you will need the LoopBe1 program to create the "invisible cable" over wifi. You will need another program called PureData to monitor and make sure you are correctly receiving MIDI signals on your computer. Finally, you will need the LiveControl program installed as these act like drivers for TouchOSC on the PC. All these programs required are free to download. Last, you have to go to Ableton and click Preferences, click the MIDI sync tab, and use LiveControl_TO as the control surface, set the input to Loopbe internal MIDI, and the output to whatever you want it to sound through (by default on Windows, is Microsoft GS wave table synth.) like I said, all this took me a while to set up, so if you're looking to use this in Ableton on Windows, this is what you need to set it up. Hope this helps anyone with a similar setup!
Very nicely done
by markmakingmusic on 2010/03/26 14:18
I must say that this is quite possibly the best 5 bucks you will spend in the app store. Because i am not too familiar with the way OSC works, it took me about an hour or so of research and banging my head against the wall before I was able to sync this with Ableton. When i figured it out though...I am so amazed at the possibilities of this! As other reviewers have mentioned it is like a tiny jazzmutant lemur. You can design your own parameters and MIDI functions for use in any of your audio programs. Completely user customizable. I just purchased the Novation Launchpad days before I bought this and Im considering returning it because I can practically control everything that I need to for 5 bucks as opposed to 200 bucks! Fyi: There is an awesome layout for OSC created by juanlittledevil (google him) that I found and installed. It works perfectly with Ableton and i would highly recommend downloading it from his site.
Great app for any digital media artist/developer!
by JustACarGuy on 2010/04/20 22:12
Just got done using TouchOSC to control a high profile visual installation at an international electronic art festival. The app worked wonderfully despite some weirdness with the internal network in the venue. I was connecting with the Java/Processing library oscP5 to control a giant architecture tracing installation in front of a huge crowd. The controls offered are very nice and react instantaneously, sending messages lightning quick over the network. To the guy who said it doesn't work with any app, you must be having network/firewall issues or simply don't understand how this technology works. It may not be brain-dead simple but what high performance technology is? Don't blame the tools! There are a couple things I'd like to add to the obligatory request list, if I may. - Array of trigger buttons (not just toggles) - Glide/momentum option on faders - More colors for controls (I was mapping to various preset colors, it would have been nice to visually be able to match the RGB of the color I was triggering, to the color of the TouchOSC control.) - Attractors, which could pull the fader or XY back to a 'home' value with a certain force Great job, I just got an iPad and I'm stoked to try this out as the first app I play with on the new device. I am highly reccomending OSC and specifically TouchOSC to all the electronic musicians and artists I know.
Wow.
by drumin2dabeat on 2011/06/14 22:08
I have never written a review before but this app deserves your full attention. Within 30 seconds of buying this app it was completely downloaded on my iPad. I had heard about it but never really looked much into it and thought I would give it a try. I'm sick of all the musical iPad apps that seem like toys, I want to use this to make music. Without having a clue how this app worked I just clicked connect to my macbook pro. Opened logic, and it worked immediately with the track I have been working on. Select individual tracks, use the mixer to adjust volumes or solo. The app will even bring up the plug in on your computer when you select it on the iPad, you can change parameters for plug-ins like compressors or whatever. All the track names were immediately in my iPad on the app, I could go on and on, just get it. It's incredible.
worth the learning curve
by justinchogue on 2010/11/12 09:44
I'm relatively new to midi but had been wanting to try this app out...I lucked out and won it in a palm sounds giveaway and after doing some research and subsequent tweaking I see what all the fuss is about...with a little patience and repeated use of the app you can do so much with it! It's very deep and not for people who don't know much about networks and midi or aren't willing to spend a little time learning the setup process but if you follow directions and understand the terminology it's very well worth it. I love it with logic and although I use touchable with live I think it's a cheaper (but equally powerful) ableton controller. If you're still on the fence, justify the $5 on how much you'll save by not having to buy an apc or any other hardware controller. It works very well and totally worth the price. Plus it's universal and looks killer on an iPad.
Great for other MIDI control things as well
by MMirabent on 2012/05/14 13:54
I got this app on a recommendation and I cannot be any happier. The layout builder makes this app insanely customizable while still being relatively easy to pick up. With the addition of a small freeware program from the developers website. This can be used to control ANY MIDI controlled software. Including what I use it for, stage lighting. I was in the market for a cheap DMX control solution for my high school. Q Light Controller plus this app and the MIDI Bridge means I can wirelessly control the lights from virtually anywhere on campus! It also makes programming the desk much more intuitive and who doesn't like playing with their iPad. It can also be used to control QLab for those on a Mac. All in all a great piece of software. Cheap, easy to use and very powerful.
Just what I was looking for
by Bob Evola on 2012/10/26 01:06
I've looked at several iPad tools that I could use to control Logic Pro on my Macbook Pro. This one is the ticket! It does exactly what I was looking to do and more. I have complete freedom to use any instrument in my studio now with full remote control over record and playback. No more pressing start and running across the room in time for my queue to start playing. One added benefit is that I can walk around the studio and listen to my mix, and edit it using different position perspective as opposed being positioned only in one spot. Can't beat the price!! BTW, I was worried at first after reading that the setup was a bear but it took me less than a minute to set it up and probably no more than 3-4 taps on the iPad and one selection on my Mac.
Wow, wow, wow!
by Windcrier on 2012/03/24 18:57
I'd looked at this app several times before, but was dissuaded from trying it by the fairly nondescript screen captures and some negative comments about people saying extra software must be purchased to make it work. But I finally bought it anyway, and was thrilled to find out my concerns were baseless. There was essentially no setup required at all, certainly no additional software was required, and right out of the box it controls virtually everything in Logic Pro 9.16 brilliantly. It both looks better and has far more capability than what I had surmised from looking at the example screens on this page. I am SO glad I finally tried this! This fantastic app will be operating my studio most of the time from here forward. What a bargain for the price!
A great controller
by MrSunshyne on 2012/06/17 20:21
I got this app as a filler for me until my new four channel mixer came in. I must say that I was surprised by its intuitiveness. You do need to edit the controllers on a computer, but I always have mine with me so that is not a problem. I really like how customizable it is; with as many midi senders as you can handle. This app is great for music. I even set up an iTunes controller by downloading a MIDI to keystroke converter and use buttons on TouchOSC to controller the key combinations in iTunes. This app is well worth the price if you know how to use it. There is a little bit of a learning curve because you need to program the actual MIDI message on the computer editor. It only took minutes from downloading everything to controlling FL studios. Personally a great app.
Awesome
by aubennett95 on 2012/11/11 20:55
I,m running Win7 with Cubase 5. I was ready to spend hundreds of dollars on Steinberg,s CMC hardware controllers when I came across this app. Although it took some effort and comprehension I have it working perfectly. Don't blame the developer for the difficulty in setting it up. They provide clear instructions on there website. The developer also includes a MIDI bridge and an editor for free on their website. The bridge acts as a virtual MIDI port on your PC or MAC. The editor allows you to build any type of screen you can imagine to control your DAW. When you consider what's involved to communicate MIDI signals from your iPad over WIFI, then to your computer, and then in turn to your DAW, it's a miracle for electronic music enthusiasts, and professionals.
Easy and stable
by kylehughes1 on 2012/08/11 16:29
Never had any problems after quite a bit of use. It will do OSC and Midi, so you can couple it with OSC software like Osculator, but you don't have to. Easy to set up. Open up the midi bridge app on your computer, and put the two devices on the same wifi network. If you want to do it the complicated way, the app allows for that as well (it supports multiple protocols for connecting it to your computer; the updates have made it progressively easier). Very useful In functionality! I use it for mixing, triggering a beat repeat, and transport control in Reason. I've made several of my own templates using the desktop design app- also easy to use. Allows you to be meticulous, if you choose. I've only really used this with reason, so I can't comment on using it with other software or seeing any visual feedback in this app. I would like to see buttons and faders light up/move in touchosc as I move them in my computer, but I'm not sure how to make that happen. Not much else to it. Create a layout that is right for you, and the rest is in user operation or external software.

Description
touchosc is a modular OSC and MIDI control surface for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad by hexler.

Ditto
by BeatsbyDiv on 2018/05/20 19:21
There’s a commonality of shared benefit in the reviews for touch osc, we all agree it’s a road tested and studio to stage ready application that just works.

Very easy. I’ve been playing ever since.

by Leelinde on 2015/10/27 22:44
I have been trying to get this app working with my DAW for 4+ hours.
Don't waste your money with this app if Ableton Live is your favorite DAW.

by BWSullivan on 2015/02/25 17:18

Great App!
by Rick Hinton on 2015/01/21 13:51
I'm not sure why the others had issues with this, all the required software is on the developers site.

It's been over a year since the last update. Until I feel the developer isn't abandoning this and will start addressing issues and start implementing new improvements....1 star from me.

Most links for LiveControl are for version 2, but version 1 is what you need for Live 9.
set up, etc.
by Magister418 on 2013/07/29 08:05
i imagine set up would be difficult for people not accustomed to mucking around in network settings and this sort of thing. i found it fairly straight forward by following the instructions on the website. with the iPad Logic Remote as an easy alternative, i imagine these developers of TouchOSC will have to up their game though. given the price and the potential (i see this as having great potential, not unlike Logic Remote), this gets 4 stars. make switching to new preset layouts easier and provide more explicit videos for set up, and i will be forced to give this app 6 stars. ok, not possible, but you know what i am saying.
Great Apps
by Sevenjude on 2013/07/22 13:03
First up , you definitely smashed it with the design controls and response, love the third party plugin support, and also hanks for not being greedy its way below the price of the other alternatives.

Fantastic App
by jrmj on 2013/06/01 04:50

by HuntillaDaKilla on 2013/05/28 03:22
I love this app, I use it on stage with me as another live controller.
Ditto
by BeatsbyDiv on 2018/05/20 19:21
There’s a commonality of shared benefit in the reviews for touch osc, we all agree it’s a road tested and studio to stage ready application that just works. It’s so important for your gear to be reliable in live situations and this definitely is. Has been for years. It’s also stable and intuitive which is crucial for anything in the digital domain. You can count on it working, running light and doing what you want. That’s invaluable to me.
Great app, thank you 😊👍
A funky app, but works like a charm
by theKeets on 2018/08/28 21:53
There was a little bit of a learning curve to set this up, but now that it is, I'm blown away by how powerful it is. I use it to control macros in Keyboard maestro with Sibelius, and to send articulation changes to Logic 10.4. If you want to send standard MIDI data over wifi or USB cable, this is your app!!

Awesome

Please update!!
