Bloated

This used to be a flexible and elegant all-purpose tool, but now it is a massive and confused tangle of specialized tools. The myriad user stories have overwhelmed the vision.

Unexisting pictures are displayed!
by Aaron-Shmaaron on 2019/04/20 15:31
In a couple of notes are displayed the pictures that I deleted for a long time ago. It's happening in a preview/list mode on my iPhone 8+. If opening these notes to edit, there are no pics inside. The app is up to date. What is wrong with this app?
Please fix iMessage widget

I can share a note in iMessage but when I press on the shared note in my messages, the Evernote iMessage widget shows me nothing! Other than that, everything is great!

User from the beginning
by ocdknitter on 2019/04/19 19:24
I’ve been an Evernote user from the beginning. Many changes over the years. I became a premium user early on. Today I’m grateful for saving everything in Evernote. After losing most of my belongings I was able to get insurance to cover since I had my documents saved in Evernote. I use it mostly for business purposes. The negative, it’s extremely frustrating going between apps and losing my place. When I return to Evernote to add to a specific note I have to search for that note again because of refreshing. I’m grateful for the automatic refreshing, however I don’t want it to go to the main screen every time. If the app is running in the background and I’m constantly using it through the day I want the option of going back to the same note. Refreshing in the background without losing my place would be more efficient. A great feature would be to have two notes side by side sometimes. I need to compare items occasionally and on a laptop I believe I can open multiple notes on the desktop, that would be a great feature for people who use tablets as laptops. And easier merging of notes on tablets.
Nice if it works...
by allthenamesaretakenwth on 2019/04/19 16:09
I have all the notebooks set to download. Thinking it was an issue with internet connectivity, it’s faster when I’m in airplane mode. it still takes forever to load a file, half the time it freezes my whole phone for a good 5-10 seconds. Some times it acts like it’s going to work, I open it I search for the note I want and open it, it takes 3-5 seconds (spinning like it’s downloading or syncing) then finally loads, then I start to scroll down and get about 10 lines down and it crashes. This is a brand new iPhone 7 with the most current OS, had the same issues with my 6 as well.
Constant hanging and always reloads
by briany on 2019/04/19 00:51
This is my mainstay for keeping notes for many years but sadly the quality has steadily gone downhill. Whenever I close the app or the phone or tablet goes to sleep it doesn’t remember where I offer off. Often reverting to the top menu or reloading a note to the top of a page. Lately it often freezes when it first opens.
Lost everything
by yatesport on 2019/04/18 12:25
I have had Evernote on my iPad for years. I have not used it a lot but have saved a number of things to it that I refer to occasionally. Opened it last week and was forced to establish an email and password to get in. It is now treating me like a new user and all my prior data is gone. Can’t find a way to contact customer service to see if data can be restored. Zero stars from me, although it won’t let me give zero stars!
Good to horrible
by rs77777777 on 2019/04/18 10:36
Have been a premium user for a while and a regular user even longer. The app has to reboot almost everytime. It’s the only evernote app that has been doing that. The notes view is very wasteful a lot of screen space. No option for a compact list view. The android, mac and windows counterpart are much smoother and faster. Starting to note taking should not be this hard.
Don’t know why I haven’t posted a review before lol
by killthechameleon on 2019/04/18 01:59
Been using Evernote since I was about 12. I’m 20 now, I’ve written a whole book, poems, songs, to do lists, random lists - I use Evernote for everything!!!! I have about 580 notes and some of them are just pages long. This app helped me get through High School. If Evernote were ever to shut down as an app I would be completely heartbroken. My life’s work is on the app. I’m so beyond appreciative of the people working hard behind the scenes to make this app stay alive and well. I’m completely in love with Evernote and I hope one day I get a chance to thank to developer of this app. THANK YOU!
Evernote review & suggestion
by DarnedHandsome on 2019/04/16 20:30
I have been using Evernote on my iPhone for several years. I put all my notes in it instead of using paper. I have always loved this App. Unfortunately, the latest update to this program has made it very frustrating to use. I never close this App. I just hop around to other Apps while Evernote continues to remain open. What’s frustrating about its latest revision is that every time I hop to another App and come back to Evernote, a circle spins around in the center of my screen and the same note that was open before is refreshed. I think Evernote is syncing and I have to wait until it is finished. This is not how it was before. I believe the syncing should be done only after the App is closed and reopened later. I honestly think this latest change of OVER SYNCING was a bad idea and the program should be changed back to he way it was. I find this OVER SYNCING to be so frustrating that I have begun searching for another App for my notes.
Bugs no more

No mas bugs!
I wish it would load faster
by FrustratedWFrustratedGirl on 2019/04/16 04:39
I love the app. However, usually when I take down notes I’m in a hurry, and opening Evernote, going back to the main page to look for the note I want and then waiting for it to load takes precious seconds of my time. So most of the time, if I’m in a hurry, I end up using the phone’s Notes app, which is not the point if I’m paying for the premium service. I would give it 3.5.
Terrible Syncing

Screen Sizing problem on iPad
by RJBeckett on 2019/04/15 17:01
Been using paid version for a long time and have seen some new and careless problems: Many mention the difficulty of getting customer support - that used to be good, now bad; Screen sizing on iPad not working, can’t see whole note without scrolling =. It works fine on my fifty dollar fire table!
Too stingy with their premium service.
by Jex Universe on 2019/04/15 08:15
$70 a year to use this app, when there are FREE alternatives like Trello, Google Keep, and OneNote? That's more than the price of a Triple-A video game, and one of them I can have more long-term carefun with. I'm a college student with a low budget, i don't have time to be paying money to an app when there are other alternates. Even when you use their free service, they limit the possibilities of the app, and how much you can post within a month. You can't sync across devices which immediately lead me to uninstall this app. Everything this platform does is trying to get you to steal your money. They need to impress me before I start giving them a whopping $70 that I could be using for thick notebooks, food, tools, anything else this app probably can't do. I gave this a chance back in 2015 and regretted it, and I'm regretting it again. I don't care how incredible this app's features are, Evernote's team needs to understand that not everyone is rich enough to throw 70 dollars (EVERY YEAR) at an app that just writes stuff down. I'm sticking with OneNote. At least they have voice-to-text.
Frustratingly buggy
by Sintactic on 2019/04/15 03:52
The app hangs more often than not when I’m trying to quickly write down a thought. Sometimes I have to wait minutes or wait for it to crash before I can enter anything at all.
App takes a while to load
by blahblah1827282 on 2019/04/14 12:44
This app used to be great. I used it to take notes while I read. In one of the recent updates though, they changed something to where it takes at few seconds to load a note every time you navigate back into the app! Please change this Evernote!
Stopped working on iPad
by Anne Huffman on 2019/04/14 12:25
I have loved Evernote for years. I’d still love it. I got a new iPad and now the app crashes when I try to use it. It searches forever but then just closes. It still works on my phone, so it doesn’t seem to be the amount of data I have in there. This makes me a bit wary of sticking with it or investing in it as my future long term solution. Fix please!
Evernote Saves Planet & Extends Learning
by Ladd Austere on 2019/04/14 10:29
Go paperless and be more organized than ever before. Paper is a luxury, being better organized and able learn quicker is not. Evernote allows for both.
So Many Crashes
by PRIZER on 2019/04/14 06:18
I want to love and support Evernote, really I do. I’ve been a paying customer since just about the very beginning of the company, loudly proclaiming to anyone who would listen what a useful tool it is. But, man, have recent versions just been overrun with bugs. The current version, on my iPad Pro, literally freezes and crashes every other time I open it to search for something. Does no one actually beta test this software anymore?
Evernote is great; app is terrible
by FelixDBJ on 2019/04/13 23:56
I would say the app freezes every other time I use the Search function. (And I use the search function almost every time I use the app)
Must have app
by ForceBlast on 2019/04/13 12:53
This is by far the most useful app on my phone. Clears the clutter of receipts from your life. Update: Over time this app has become a bloated mess. Considering canceling. The note edit screen is terrible. There’s no undo. There’s also no way to revert to an older version of a note that I could fine. So a mistake is permanent.

UNFRIENDLY to the max!
by hunkadan on 2019/04/10 21:55
Evernote seems to have lost some of its programming expertise. I have been on Evernote since 2013. I discovered I had made a typo in my initial account set up which resulted in an incorrect Evernote email account name/internal Evernote email address. I have tried and tried and tried to correct this to no avail. Finally in desperation I tried to close the account to reload it so it would have a different account name. I reloaded the app from the App Store. Mow Evernote will not allow me to create a new account as I have not changed my email address. It simply says my account has been deactivated with no option to re-create the account. NOT USER-FRIENDLY! Goodbye Evernote until you hire some more experienced coders.

Could Use Major Improvements
by Cabracorny on 2019/04/09 16:18
The good is that you can easily save just about anything to Evernote. You can also edit just about anything too. However, there are many missing features/settings that would make Evernote a top notch app: - Fit to screen feature. When I save websites to Evernote, it does not auto resize to fit into portrait mode, cutting off some pictures and other graphics. - More fonts. Evernote only includes about 30 of the typical fonts you see everywhere else. - A Trello-like action cards feature to allow users to organize tasks. - Easier integrations features with other productivity services and tools. - Better editing tools. Cropping pictures, changing font sizes, adding three shapes, and other rudimentary features are not exactly exciting. - Device file managing abilities.
Mostly useful
by Ted E. B. on 2019/04/09 16:03
I think the best thing about this app is its ability to scan text on images and allow you to search that text. Years ago this seemed too advanced for my average self to obtain, but here it is. You can scan images on scannable and send them to Evernote, and bam, searchable document. You can organize all your junk and clear out the paper mess in your junk drawer. That said, I’m not using it anymore. You can’t scan the front and back of a business card at the same time, and if you want to add the back afterwards, you can’t use an image on your phone. You can’t copy an image from a business card and paste it to another. Basic editing of a note seems like a basic function to me. Why wouldn’t you be able to edit a note? The image scan is great, but I still need basic functions. Sometimes you need to use a workaround, but if the workaround fails then you get frustrated. I did.
Sigh...
by filmcritic001 on 2019/04/09 13:53
This is a great idea... with tons of features... can we just make a new app called Evernote simple... for people who just want to take notes :-/ This app used to be fast, and reliable.. each update I am afraid it will be the last time :( Here we go :( (pulls the trigger) :(

Used to be the best option for notes.. not anymore
by NorCal surfer on 2019/04/09 05:00
I’ve been using evernote for 10 years, and a paying user for most of that duration. Evernote was a godsend and beat out the competition during the early days. Unfortunately these days Evernote has displayed too many flaws for me to continue using. These are some serious issues I experienced: - Corrupted notes that can’t be opened. During their migration to a cloud storage provider, bunch of my notes got corrupted and couldn’t be recovered. - Apps are getting slower. It’s now one of the slowest note taking apps I use. I have to tap the buttons multiple times to get it to respond. - Search has gotten worse, often showing incorrect/missing results at random times. This means I can’t rely on its search. These issues are far too serious to ignore. I’ll be moving over to alternative products.
I live by Evernote, but...
by davidconrad on 2019/04/08 03:36
The current mobile app is borderline unusable. I have to force quit the app and restart multiple times before it’s responsive. Not sure what’s going on, but I hope it gets fixed.
Slow, slow, slow to load
by pmgreene01 on 2019/04/07 21:48
They had made it fast to load, but now it is bloated again. I think of something I want to put in a note, but by the time Evernote loads, I forget what I wanted to write. I would like less pretty stuff and just have a quick editor. There should also be a tool to strip all formatting from pasted content
Evernote Has Lots of Features

Major flaws
by themacchidog on 2019/04/07 06:03
When writing in bullet points, you have to go to a separate menu each time you want to indent, and I indent bullet points a lot. Also, the fonts and font sizes are not consistent, and I will always open up a note with multiple fonts and sizes, even though I changed them to the same font and size before.
terrible
by LEO BSB on 2019/04/06 20:21
Evernote keeps changing their interface for worse, its not reliable (you can lose notes) and you cannot easily export your notes to other apps. Avoid this at all costs.

Meh
by bender_unit on 2019/04/04 00:43
First off, I’ve been an Evernote user for many years (at least 12). When it first came out, this was a literal killer app. Couldn’t live without it. It was probably one of the first apps that I decided it would be worth paying a yearly subscription fee for. But that was a LONG time ago. Unfortunately, for the last few years, it seems that the company has been taken over by idiots. Incompetent, aggressive money-hungry idiots. Rather than fixing what’s broken and keeping what’s working, they keep what’s broken and mess with what’s working. That really sums up the direction this app has taken in the past few years. Every new release seems to change the user interface in various ways in order to keep up with the current design trends, while crucial core functionally is and remains fundamentally broken. At the same time, the upsells are becoming increasingly more aggressive and brazen. It pains me to see the direction this app is taking, because I honestly used to swear by it and recommended it to many friends, but the fact is that there are better (and cheaper!) alternatives out there, and the only reason I still have this app installed is so I can access my archive of notes from the last decade. That’s it. Once that knowledge has outlived its usefulness, I’m looking forward to finally deleting this pile of garbage unless someone at Evernote corporate has a serious change of heart and considers putting their focus on the things that actually used to make this app great. Until then, my verdict remains a resounding “Meh”.
Numerous probs with iOS app
by dutchbmx on 2019/04/03 23:09
Can’t add new tags, most pages that I clip from the Chrome browser never finish clipping. Why would you make it impossible to just add a new tag from within the tags on the app? There should also be an option to add a new tag from within the clipper.
Ok but no longer works
by Motorambler on 2019/04/03 17:04
Evernote was doing what I needed (I’m a basic user) but the app stopped working today. I get a black screen when I open the app. Restarting my iPhone XR does not fix the problem.
Glitchy with horrible support
by Lilturdboxer on 2019/04/03 16:59
I returned to Evernote thinking they would have improved their clunky user interface and glitchy design. Nope. The white screen of death is still ever present and the design elements literally flicker and twitch all over the place. I’ve never used an app this unstable. There are way better options out there.
Everything is broken after the update
by kzuse on 2019/04/03 16:49
I love Evernote and I use it everyday. But the last update completely made the app unusable on my iPhone X. It won’t even load half the time, and if it does, the loading circle refuses to go away and I’m unable to do anything. Please fix this Evernote! I didn’t pay for a premium membership for a buggy app. I would have just stuck with OneNote if that was going to be the case.
Love the app, but isn’t working well
by ZentzVB on 2019/04/03 16:37
When I go to open the app now, it’s just a white screen. If by some miracle I get into the app after shutting it down multiple times, when I tap a note a green circle just endlessly spins.

You’re a big company, and have the money and resources to make sure your website and app work properly. Yet somehow you manage to make it not work. And you have the audacity to offer paid services with a broken website too when you clearly don’t care about the basic features even working.

Buggy, crashes & needs re-install weekly, search still feeble
by The Notorious t.i.g on 2019/04/03 15:11
I’ve been using Evernote for almost 10 years and have almost 15,000 notes, which puts me the upper-echelon of personal users, and have the super-premium subscription. In other words, this review may not apply to you. Now that that’s out of the way ... I’ve been asking for real Boolean search almost from day 1. The current search is fine under a thousand notes. However, now I have to know a lot more about what I’m looking for. Such as already be in the right folder, know which tag is on the record, and then search for the term. Makes it pretty useless, at least for me. Additionally, most search terms are treated as OR, meaning if I put in Apple iPad, I’ll see all notes with Apple, plus all notes with iPad, not just the ones with Apple iPad. And the search disregards “”, meaning “Apple iPad” gives the same ridiculous results as Apple iPad. Same with multiple tags, btw. Also, it crashes on the 12.7” 128G iPad Pro, and needs to be re-Installed every few uses, especially when advanced features are used such as marking up PDFs. When this happens, data usually disappear because it got stuck mid-save and/or sync. And yes, I’m old-skool enough to still think the word data is the plural form of datum 👩🏽‍🦳 I’ve stuck with Evernote because there doesn’t seem to be anything better in my price range, and might have to build my own. I’ve been avoiding this option because if I had time for that, I wouldn’t need to buy an app 😜. In fact, I don’t even have time to look for alternatives!
Crashes all the time.
by Krystalismad on 2019/04/03 14:55
Don’t put anything important on this app that you’ll need later on. It won’t be there later when it freezes on white screen with black boarder on the bottom. Only way to fix it is to uninstall/reinstall. And linking to their website doesn’t always save. None of mine did actually.
Won’t open.
by russianozv on 2019/04/03 14:36
After the last 12.2 iOS update the app won’t open. I am afraid I lost everything that I saved in the Evernote. I hope the issue will be fix.
App crashing and not able to search in iPhone X

Falling apart
by Kyzr66 on 2019/04/03 13:43
I’ve been a premium member and have stuck with Evernote through thick and thin. It’s always been a great app. Whenever there was a problem, I knew they’d eventually fix it so I always resisted jumping to an alternative app. However, the problems are getting more frequent and, recently, much more significant. So significant, in fact, that my new Evernote workflow on my iPad now includes opening the app, waiting for the inevitable freeze, then closing and reopening then re-finding the note I was originally looking for. Also, starting a new note keeps getting slower and slower. Given the significance of these problems I figured alarm bells must be going off at Evernote and that a fix would soon be on the way. It’s been months now.
Undo option?

App had gotten better but tech support is horrible. They take days to get back to you. Prior to the last update, this was one of the best Apps out there. Now the interface is different & so hard to use. I am ready to erase it & find a comparable App. It doesn't even look like an App anymore. "If it's not broken, don't fix it"
Great app always one more thing

Great app. Love the chrome integration and the intelligent related notes feature. My one wish is that we could join notes. Maybe I just need more data architecture coaching but it seems like my life would be better if I could scroll within one note rather than clicking back and forth between a few. If you have not tried this app do but be prepared to buy into premium because it’s like potato chips. Once you start you can’t stop.
Ok but not great
by josear1990 on 2019/04/03 01:14
The app works ok. It fails to sync across devices sometimes, which makes the whole use of it as a mobile to do list questionable. Also, the UX is not great. For example, the word processor is not as seamless as Word
Not what it used to be
by Shawn M. Brown on 2019/04/02 19:17
I was an avid Evernote user for several years with a paid subscription. However, now I am looking for another solution. The app regularly crashes on my iPad Pro after conducting a search, and this something I do often. The screen will freeze, making it necessary to quit the app and start again. Even if the search does work, it is slow. At times I will see the note I want, tap on it, but then search results continue to load and it turns out my tap was on a different note from the one I need. I will be looking for another note taking and document filing solution.
To many bugs for a big app
by Avenger of my father on 2019/04/02 18:53
This app just continually gets rid of all the current work I’m doing when I switch apps which is incredibly frustrating as a student. It didn’t used to do this and the only reason I haven’t switched is because all my notes are still locked in. Wish the syncing features worked better two. If I have a document open on my iPad and on my Mac, if I change one of the documents, rather than just updating the document on the other device, it completely forks it and makes a whole new document. Didn’t realize this at first and ended up having 30 documents for one chapter of notes. Not to mention exporting as a PDF just is an absolute nightmare, meaning I can’t even save all of my notes or homework assignments to submit. Everything just feels locked down and like it could be implemented much better. I’ll be switching note taking apps after this spring semester.
Great until you upgrade
by Laughmissile on 2019/04/02 15:03
I absolutely loved this app until I upgraded to premium. Once I upgraded, the app started to incur many sync errors, and became glitchy altogether. Very disappointed. Friends are telling me to switch to Google-Keep. Need to look into that. I have Evernote on my iPhone 7+ and 2018 MacBook Pro.

Practically forcing you to upgrade
by nreusoya on 2019/03/31 21:51
Evernote has been slowly removing features that were once free, the most recent and basic one that you have to be online to access your notes. No offline access for Basic. What a rip.
Well designed app but too expensive
by Krotch341a on 2019/03/31 16:02
This app is no longer years before it’s time and has no hugely unique features they offer. It’s all pretty standard so the price should reflect that. This is the single most expensive app I had. BY FAR! It’s a great app if you can afford it but I just can’t.
Bad Again
by PeterWall on 2019/03/30 14:21
Evernote seems to oscillate between being a great app for a period, and then being utterly abysmal. This is an abysmal period. The app is slow—it hangs, or seems about to hang, every single time I open it. And it’s doing something weird with its display of relates notes, so that they block the editing area and I can’t see what I’m typing. For an app like this, which is sort of a personal database of various information, I would expect it only to get better and more solid over time. But it doesn’t. It feels like the development team must be experiencing waves of turnover, with each new batch of people either forgetting or discarding what was learned before. If this cycle does not end, and Evernote does not become persistently stable, then I am going to move my stuff to a different system.
updated and lost all notes
by Eat a duck on 2019/03/30 08:33
what kind of idiots allow this to happen on their note app? i understand you have to profit off of it, but y’all had ONE job. To save my notes. And you did just the opposite. Years of my memories and poems gone forever. Thank you.
Evernote has been hacked and your personal information & passwords are not secure
by StrategyDoc on 2019/03/30 05:04
I was informed today that my Evernote account, that I NEVER used before today (I signed up thinking I would use it as a teaching tool but never did) was compromised and all personal information including passwords have been accessed. BEWARE, the site is not secure!
Can’t email from Evernote??
by Nikki Thompson on 2019/03/30 04:24
Seems to be a great app outside of the fact that you can’t email from Evernote??? I do a lot of work after hours on my iPad, capturing ideas... unfortunately there’s no way to email the note from Evernote. I have to copy paste it? Essentially, I’d be better off just using another app.
Cannot renew subscription
by Frisbeedoggy on 2019/03/29 16:04
I renewed my premium account on iTunes, but still have no premium access to Evernote. Evernote says you bought it on iTunes, talk to them. ITunes says I have premium access, talk to Evernote. I guess its time to get a refund and move on to something else. Noteability? Onenote?
Eh
by JeighReed on 2019/03/29 14:18

Problem getting locked out
by MomJ4 on 2019/03/29 10:29
For several weeks I’ve been getting locked out on my iPad every time I open the App. I need to shut down my iPad and then it works fine — until the next time. Please fix this problem so I can return to giving you a five-star rating.
Great App!
by Ninjaaaa1234567 on 2019/03/29 04:02
Everyone is a great app to use for aspiring writers. I currently use it in order to plan out my books. It has a variety of templates you can use to create your characters, plot, and plan out every chapter. It's extremely simple to navigate and very organized. I give it a five-star rating!
Extremely Slow!!!!!!
by Vince1658 on 2019/03/29 02:24
This app is extremely slow upon opening. You need to wait for several seconds until you can start using it. It makes this app essentially useless for taking quick notes or capturing ideas. The UX is so bad. There are two different ways of taking pictures and it’s so confusing! Cropping a picture is so complicated! I will switch to other service and cancel my subscription as soon as a find an alternative.
The trunk is backwards
by bronze_ on 2019/03/28 09:50
Literally and figuratively. First change the trunk. A downward trunk is seen as a bad look is some cultures, so flip the trunk upwards and watch your user base increase especially overseas. Next get back to innovating. You have been quiet on upgrades and overhauls. Power users would anticipate the upgrades and look forward to the added productivity. Lastly give us Stitch back you took that away and never gave us a comparable replacement. I don’t want to migrate to Bear or Notion but I’m starting to wonder if you care of have given up?

Frustrating to Switch Between Apps
by TieraAnnette on 2019/03/27 15:53
Every time I switch between Evernote and another app, like if I’m taking down info that I can’t copy and paste, the note I’m on reloads every...single...time. I wanted to switch from OneNote because I thought this might be better suited for mobile use but I’m finding that might not be the case until they fix it.
Very awkward to navigate
by Billclock on 2019/03/27 14:41
Good grief is this a hard app to navigate. Trying to put items into a single folder can take forever. How about giving users a tutorial to help us through the complexities/rigidities of this app. I know some people seem to like the app; count me as a dissenter. And, of course, they have adopted the scam du jour, now requiring you to pay substantial sums to access your own material on your own devices.
Getting worse
by DaCodeRhino1999 on 2019/03/27 11:55
Still have random crashes Notes don’t save their place which is really annoying when using Evernote as a live notepad (at the gym for example)

by BeeDarlene on 2019/03/27 10:49

Suddenly has become unusable, no support
by Erniesfriend on 2019/03/27 01:56
I loved Evernote until it stopped working today, telling me that the device I have ALWAYS used requires me to upgrade so that I can continue using it—treating my iPhone as though it’s an added device, which it is not! I now cannot access my notes! And I’ve gotten no support from the developers. How utterly disappointing.

New two device limit is a total turn off
by Asim A on 2019/03/26 12:03
Original Evernote was amazing useful, no device limit, less push towards going premium. I’m sure they lost many users after, including myself. So many notes apps do what Evernote premium does but for free.
Love
by BG050810 on 2019/03/26 10:48
After accidentally deleting a bunch of notes in the Notes app, I started using Evernote to save random bits of stuff I wanted to remember. Now I use it for everything. There are the occasional bugs but the developers are really good about fixing them right away.
Buggy on iPad / Lacks features
by a1n2d3y7 on 2019/03/26 09:44
For example, if you have a note in expanded view (full screen), leave the app and come back, it reloads and your note is no longer full screen or at the location you were last looking at it at. Sad. You’d expect more for $5+ a month.
Extortion
by long time user ;:/$& on 2019/03/25 23:44
I purchased the app five years ago and have all sorts of lists and schedules that I cannot access unless I start paying a monthly fee. I got a new phone and the app is holding my data hostage unless I pay. I should have just used the Notes app that is in the phone because it serves the same purpose. They could have at least notified me of the change in advance so I could capture critical data before the change. Disappointing.
Great, but new features are adding bloat
by N.O. Spam on 2019/03/25 18:16
Generally one of my favorite apps, used for everything from writing research papers to keeping track of recipes. In the latest update the “Related Items” interface pops up way too fast. The addition of templates also seems to have slowed the process of getting started on a new note. Would be great to have “Don’t use templates” as the default or an optional setting.
Constant issues
by sepiasoul on 2019/03/25 17:04
I use Evernote across 4 devices (and thus I was charged premium without knowing). Okay, not a big deal. Evernote is constantly crashing. I just lost notes I spent hours taking. Not the first time this has happened. Annotation tool, one of the main purposes for using Evernote, is terrible. I’ll be seeking some new apps to keep my work organized, because this ain’t it. Very disappointed.
My notes fell into infinite loop

Come back in - the water is fine
by PusIsMyLife on 2017/12/04 03:02
Having been a long time and premium user of Evernote (since Oct 2011) with thousands of notes, I was as frustrated as everybody else when version 8 came out at the first of 2017 and everything was slow and broken. I’d search for a word that I KNEW was in the title of at least a dozen notes but it would slowly grind away then come back with no notes found. I even sent info and screenshots to support to no avail. The pain of version 8 was excruciating. My entire life is in Evernote - medical notes, call schedules, everything. I checked out other options but none had a decent web clipper so the pain of transferring all my notes wasn’t worth it. Fortunately, I had saved a copy of version 7 so just went back to using that. Until last month when the version 7 web clipper stopped working. Reluctantly, I updated to the latest version and - surprise! - everything is great again - just like version 7!! (Except for being able to go directly to a note by first letter of title —- PLEASE PUT BACK THE ALPHABET DOWN THE SIDE!!). I’m definitely not thrilled at the pricing structure, but I am ecstatic that I can keep track of my life and continue to indulge my digital hoarding habit. If I find anything that is a significant problem, I will update this review. In the meantime - come on back! The water’s fine. Again.
Useful but imperfect
by DonPablo21 on 2018/11/21 13:50
This is still the best app for my needs, but it has plenty of annoying quirks. I've used Evernote for many years, with over 100 notes covering everything from the grocery list to future work plans to my son's college search. I find it helpful having access to all of these notes from my Mac, iPad, and iPhone, and being able to share certain notes with specific family members or colleagues. None of its competitors offers the same combination of selective note sharing, table creation and editing, and text formatting. Yet there are still quirks. Newly edited notes take a surprising amount of time to be saved, or must be saved manually - if you aren't careful about this and the note is later edited in another device, new versions of the note are created or sometimes appended to the end of the current note without warning you. Evernote on the Mac can change the font in notes, but not on iOS, and sometimes routine copy/pasting on iOS results in text with bizarre fonts that can't be fixed on that device. The use of Apple Data Detectors also means that anything Evernote thinks might be a phone number or calendar event is highlighted like a clickable link - I wish this could be turned off.
Customer Service
by Cocoleann on 2017/08/17 16:44
If you are looking for a company that has accessible customer service, look elsewhere. For many people, we don't realize how important customer service is until we are in a dire pickle, but, let me be the one to tell you, it is VERY important to have the option to speak with someone during those times of need. Evernote, on the other hand, doesn't seem to believe in customer accessibility or satisfaction. When having an issue with my billing account, I attempted to call the customer service number given on my bank statement only to be transferred to a voicemail telling me to leave my email address. The only form of communication they offer is through email or online chat. While that is great for younger people, there are other generations who would prefer speaking with an actual person to help deescalate the issue before it gets out of hand. It is also in their policy to not give refunds. My experience today was joining an online chat, being told there was nothing they could do for the extra $64 in charges they cost me, and to have a great day. I will be checking to make sure that the companies I choose to give my business to have a phone number I can call from now on to know they actually care about their customers. It also says something about a site that has almost as many 1 stars as 5 stars. Thanks for nothing, Evernote.
Lost photos I uploaded for recipes
by Turkey Sandwiches on 2018/01/06 19:23
I used to love Evernote until today. I bragged to all of my friends how great Evernote. I use it for many things including as a recipe storage. I am using Evernote basic. However, today the App lost 2 of my recipes. I’m very frustrated. I had a special pasta recipe I was going to make with my son. I saw the photo of the recipe on my phone and when I clicked on it and opened it up the photo disappeared. I can’t seem to get it back in any way. I think this is a terrible thing to have happened. I tried to organize my recipes electronically and pitched the hard copies. Now I have lost that recipe and another. I clicked on another recipe from the app and that photo disappeared as I opened it. I think I took these photos in 2015. The app worked fine for a recipe photo I took in 2017 this morning but it losing older photos. This is unacceptable. I stopped opening recipe notes and went to the webpage on my Mac to open other recipes and the browser version worked fine with the other pasta recipes I added the same day. But now I have wasted an hour trying to no avail to restore the image. Because I’m a basic user, I’m not even able to email customer support. The app appears to be garbage right now if it loses photos while the web browser does not. I’m so disappointed.
It’s a great tool
by doxzero on 2018/10/15 09:11
It’s a great tool for various different reasons. I think an interesting set of features would be a kind of automation, e.g., the ability to set up conditions so if I write certain words the note is added to certain folders or has certain reminders set to it or maybe even triggers a notification to specific people, etc. Also, something I think should be implemented is title caps in .… well, the TITLES of notes. Why is that not a thing? Or at least a toggleable setting? Lastly, why is it that the icon badge notification number is not at all connected to the actual trigger of the notification. I should open the app and it should be totally clear what the notification number is referring to, whether it’s reminders or updates or whatever. The user is just left adrift once he taps on the icon and then has no clue what triggered the notification. It’s just plain bad UX and your UX folks should really be talked to about that because it’s rather fundamental stuff they are missing.
No customer service
by SoonerAce on 2017/10/05 15:47
So I've been using Evernote for over three years now and I really do love some of its features. However, two things really grind my gears. 1) When they changed to basic free accounts vs. paid upgrade accounts, we lost the ability to access on all devices as they limited basic users to two devices. I have it on my phone & laptop, so I can't have the app on my tablet. So I tried to access through the browser on my tablet and it wasn't "formatted" for that kind of access. Now it just forces you to the app store. Beyond irritating. 2) There's ZERO customer service. As a basic user, your only option is the user forum which has too many posts to read, and it's just users - not Evernote help desk. So how some rando user is supposed to answer my account-specific issue is beyond me. Not only that, but from what I see in the forums from paid users, Evernote takes weeks to respond to inquiries, if at all. So what's the point of upgrading to paid service? I don't understand how they run a successful user-based business without supporting the users. It's really disappointing because when functioning properly, it's a great product.
Evernote still the best for organizing and searching
by MikeInCarrolltonTexas on 2018/09/07 02:36
I have tried OneNote a few times to see if it was as good as Evernote. OneNote has good editing tools within a note, but seems to be lacking when comes to FINDING your notes. I like Evernote’s search ability - select one ore more tags or a notebook - and then search within that context. I like that you can see Evernote’s list of tags at a glance on the left - and then quickly see a list of those notes that have that tag. And when you put in a search string, Evernote instantly shows you a list of notes that match, along with the first few lines of the note - even if what you’re searching for is within an embedded image (or PDF file since I have Premium). This ability to quickly find what you’re looking for within a thousand notes is critical for me. I don’t think ON is a replacement for Evernote for me - because of this alone. I hope Evernote stays afloat for a long time to come!
Two problems to fix
by BlindInsight on 2018/08/26 20:12
When taking a note, there are many problems with Voiceover. First, when swiping to the right, sometimes it skips over the title field & other times it skips over the multi-line text field. When typing in the field, you can’t move by letter or word & have it affect where the cursor is located. When The keyboard is brought up from simply looking at a note, the cursor is somewhere in the middle of the text already in it. Unlike most text fields, double tapping on it does not move the cursor to the start or the end of the text field. You also cannot listen to the entire note when the keyboard is available. This makes creating & editing notes inaccessible to Voiceover. Sharing to Evernote takes a long time after entering text & choosing the folder. Once I hit save, a loading icon is shown while I have to wait for a long time to share it. If these problems are solved, I will be satisfied with Evernote. Until Evernote is Voiceover accessible, I will use another note taking app that is accessible.
Great app but they don’t know who they want
by @davessuccess on 2018/03/17 13:32
I keep getting ads about using Evernote business but I don’t want their service for business. I do use it for business but I don’t think they understand what I want as a business owner. I use it for myself, I don’t have a team, although I imagine I will at some point, I don’t think that this would even serve my team if I had one. there’s only one thing I want out of the premium service and that is being able to use the app on all my devices. That really should be a free service. It’s stupid the way you guys do it. It’s incredibly frustrating. I’ll make this easy for you Evernote. The only way I would pay a higher price for what you offer is if you provided mind mapping or flow charting in my note taking. There isn’t really a great option out there and it would allow me to see everything all at once. You guys should consider all the ways people can take notes and I think this would be the next frontier. You guys also could make it easier to make charts and graphs. I think those two things would be worth the price.
Font size issue.
by 1 & only bagel boy on 2018/09/30 19:18
Got this app after friends recommended it and I’m loving it. I’m more organized and productive already. Love the notebook layout and the cross platform from Windows to iPhone. But there’s an issue that reallllly bothers me. Font sizes aren’t consistent across the app on Windows 10 and the iPhone app. I ran a test to see what font sizes corresponds to small, medium, and large. Small on iPhone is 10 on Windows app. Medium is 14. Large is 18. Except something written in “small” on an iPhone, when viewed on a PC and compared to something written in 10 on the Windows app, the text originally written on Windows is larger than the text written on iPhone, despite them both being “10”. If I highlight the text from the iPhone and then select 10 again, it will grow ever so slightly to match the PC font size of 10. The opposite happens if I write something in 10 on PC and then view it on an iPhone and compare it to something written in “small.” What is written in “small” is larger than what was written in 10 on the PC. This is really frustrating because it results in inconsistencies throughout your notes. I know you guys care about organization, design, and consistency. So please fix this issue. Other than that, the app is great, would be 5 stars, but this is really frustrating. You can’t have an app meant for organization have something as basic as font size be inconsistent like this. Thanks for reading this feedback.
Overall still the Best Note App
by heathrulez on 2018/06/12 19:52
As someone who has been using Evernote for years, despite many hiccups, I still love this app overall. There are still a few annoying glitches for the iPad functionality though. For instance, when you’re typing in a note, and switch to another app and back to Evernote, the cursor often gets locked at the bottom of the note, and you have to click into another note and back into the one you were working on to get the cursor working correctly—Super annoying. The only other thing is that as you type a note, while you have ‘Show Body Text’ selected in ‘Note List Options,’ as you type in a note, the tile in the Notes List continues resizing as it syncs, even if the text you’re editing is far past what’s previewed in said tile. This can be solved by putting the note into full screen or turning off ‘Show Body Text’ but I prefer the settings that cause this glitch.
For old software, it’s surprisingly immature
by emmgee53 on 2017/12/27 04:05
I’ve used Evernote since it’s early days. Honestly I would have a hard time living without it. But it’s surprisingly quirky for such an old product. For example the iPhone, iPad, and PC versions seem like they came from different companies. I couldn’t tell you how to search via tag on my iPad but it’s simple on the PC. I started with Evernote on the Mac and recently switched to the PC. It was pretty different. Why? The editor is basic which is fine but it’s too basic. Creating tables is too hard. There should be more formatting options. And the dictionary is odd. Add something to the dictionary and the red underline doesn’t go away. And why doesnt the Windows version support touch screens? It’s a great concept. I love the web clipper. I’m glad to be able to access my notes on different devices. But I wish it worked more consistently across those devices. I wish I had more formatting options.
A tool to centralize all my tasks and notes
by jsejean on 2019/03/09 17:03
With the multiple insufficiencies of outlook for Mac - that we use at a group level, Evernote is my perfect tool for keeping ALL my tasks in the same place, from emails to answer, tasks I create, etc. I forward emails to my Evernote account several times a day to schedule the time to answer (could you add a function where we choose the default notebook to send email reminders to avoid the ‘@‘ step and set that, if no date is mentioned, the default is tomorrow?). I also have the comfort of having my notes everywhere with me on a handwritten format. I used to be a fan of paper notebooks but was losing them all. Solved now! Finally the scan document function is incredible and allows me to manage all my legal scanned contracts in the best possible way. WELL DONE team Evernote.
Mostly works, but syncing is unreliable
by lilmissboyscout on 2019/01/29 17:21
I’m happy with Evernote most of the time, but when Evernote syncing fails, it’s incredible frustrating. I have been using Evernote since 2014. Most of the time, it works great, but oftentimes (and seemingly random), when I input information into the mobile app, it won’t sync with the web app, and when I open the web app, all the information is gone. It reverts back to the prior version and there’s no way to get it back or view past versions. I have written a lot of information at times that cannot be replicated, and randomly it’s just gone. I have experienced this issue since 2016, so I have started backing up everything into Google Drive. I would never use Evernote to store anything that really mattered and am considering discontinuing my use of this app, since having to back up all the information that’s supposed to sync properly the first time around is a waste of time.
Disaster
by RachelRT on 2018/08/05 14:39
Not that the people who made this app care (customer service is nonexistent), but I’ve lost access to my entire account. I’ve been a diehard Evernote user for years, but it’s gotten ridiculous since 2017, and this is the last straw for me. As a student, I need a document service I can actually rely on, and I cannot rely on Evernote anymore. For those who are curious, I can’t use my account because it’s “on too many devices,” despite the fact that I’ve only ever used it on my phone and laptop. I should theoretically be able to fix this easily, but the device settings won’t load— anywhere. Not on my computer, my phone, or even in a web browser. Every time I open the app? It redirects me to the broken device settings page. There seems to be no way to retrieve my files. Troubleshooting has done nothing, customer service hasn’t helped. I’m pretty patient and I’ve never left a 1 Star review on anything before, but this is the umpteenth time I’ve had issues with Evernote. It was a great service in 2014– not so much anymore.
I did.
A Bit Frustrated
by tamig000 on 2018/01/08 14:47
I use this app all the time. It’s a way for my husband and I to share ideas about vacations and to-do lists. However, it recently stopped letting me sync. If you don’t sync and open a note that was updated by another user it “modifies” the note in the worst way. I also am not able to get notifications from the app anymore either, which is especially annoying when my husband is trying to chat with me through the app. So I thought I would reach out to customer service to troubleshoot beyond their recommendations on their site. Since I’m not a paying customer I cannot submit a ticket. This is especially frustrating. They are sending a message that their non-paying customers aren’t important. I don’t want to look for another app with similar functions, but I may be forced to if they can’t fix the bugs.
Bad Design Change
by LeviaEli on 2017/08/16 22:25
I used to love Evernote, having used it for a couple of years. I am a Premium member, and used it for school work and personal life...I used it for everything. I used it on my iPhone, iPad mini, iPad Pro, and MacBook Pro. But, I am very disappointed with the recent updates. Besides performance issues, my main concern is about the horrible design change, primarily the removal of two functions that I used on a regular basis. First, I am sad about the loss of the Card View option. Anyone with common sense on design and visual efficiency would know how convenient and fast the card view is for users. I can't believe that Evernote is willing to give up one of its most valuable characteristics just to follow the bad design of another popular note app. Card View is so important to me, especially on my iPads. It was so easy and fast for me to visually grasp all my notes. Now, it takes forever to scroll through the single line of notes. Evernote, where is your common sense and sense of design and efficiency? Second, I am sad about the loss of Presentation mode. That was one of the functions that drew me into being a Premium member. I also used it to take screenshots of my notes. The formatting in the Presentation mode gives a perfect appearance to screenshots. Now...it is all gone. Please give me back these functions that I care about and value. I need them. This app is losing its soul... Please give me a response or send me the older version!
Makes iPad useful input device for Windows PCs
by Rodger584 on 2018/07/26 14:50
Normally an iPad is used as a display device and sometimes as a controller. It can be used as a camera, but is usually too bulky. Using the notes feature, in conjunction with the editing features of the iPad camera system and the location detection, Evernote can create very useful documents that can be used on the PC. Management is enhanced by the ability to search for text or OCR images on the server. Forcing synchronization is also a useful management tool although I often have trouble with synchronization on the PC. The inability to control font size on the text entered on the iPad is still a problem. As new versions are released, the user interface seems to change, requiring retraining without any help. Additionally, the user interface on the various platforms appears to becoming so different that it interferes with interoperability.
So incredibly SLOW on iPhone X! + privacy concerns
by Noguilt on 2018/11/08 20:09
I am a long-time Premium user, and rely heavily on Evernote. currently, I am using it on an iPhone X with 256GB memory. I use the option to keep my notebooks downloaded to my iPhone. Nonetheless, Evernote has become SO INCREDIBLY SLOW THAT IT INTERFERES WITH MY WORKFLOW. Slow to find notes, and in the meantime it displays a misleading message “No results found for “_____” – as if the search had been completed, with no results found. If you wait long enough, the results appear. Adding a tag is so slow that you repeatedly add it, without it appearing with the other tags. You have to just sit back and have a few sips of tea, and hope that it will appear eventually. Even a newly created short note takes forever to load! For anyone else who is struggling with the slowness problem: The solution is to delete and re-install Evernote every month or so. But for a power user with 1000s of notes, that takes a long time, and it should not be necessary!!! Also, after re-installing, you have to re-create your settings, like to download all notes (which, oddly, is not the default). I am finding that I am using Bear and Pendo instead of Evernote, more and more, just because both of them are SO much faster than Evernote. Also, I am deeply concerned about the privacy policy. I won't feel comfortable using Evernote unless the company announces a privacy policy that STRONGLY protects their customers.
Really pushing their premium service.
by hawaiianpunchout on 2019/03/19 18:43
I switched to Evernote because I liked the UI and I wanted to keep my recipe book all in one place with a really nice tagging system so I can easily index all of the recipes. Evernote does this the best out of any service I’ve used before. UI and design is really important to me, so that’s what drew me to the program, and I can even quickly and easily import new recipes. However, I’m on Basic, and as soon as I hit the image cap, the bright red ‘not syncing’ banner comes up on my recipes, and can’t be permanently dismissed. I can’t get rid of the red exclamation points in the corners of my notes, or prevent it from prompting me to update literally any time I open a note. This is incredibly annoying and ruins the entire purpose of switching for me. If they stop pushing their premium service so hard onto people who really only need Basic, this review will be changed to 5 stars.
Disappearing notes and no support
by illustrator31200000 on 2018/06/12 16:38
I was an Evernote user for about 4 years and found it to be well designed, reliable, and useful for my daily note taking needs at work. Earlier this year, the app became buggier. I’m not sure if this instability coincided with a new version or what happened exactly, but my notes started to disappear into the void. I would take notes in a meeting and once I was back at my desk moments later, discover that everything I had just written was gone. It didn’t happen EVERY time, but it was frequent enough that I contacted support to see if there was anything that could be done about the issue. Support advised me that as a basic user, I did not qualify for support. After complaining to Evernote over Twitter, they told me they would open a helpdesk ticket, although this went no where. After an experience like this, any hope Evernote had of turning me into a subscriber is gone, and I’ve since deleted the app.
Very angry
by Hbgvfgbh on 2019/01/03 20:11
I recently got a new iPhone. I was rather surprised when I logged in on my new device. A screen pops up telling me I have to sign up for a 7.99 monthly subscription to get my things. I am unable to get passed that screen. I looked in help and found the plan comparisons - would have been much more helpful if the prices would have been listed along with the features- dahhhhh. I have been to both the app support page and the developer web site and no where am I able to find somewhere to actually send an email. All you get are a bunch of drop down screens to choose your issue. After all that, it asks if this was helpful. Guess what, I clicked no it wasn’t. Nothing happens. Would have been nice if it would have finally given me a way to contact support. If they options are available to get an email out and get a direct response from a living person, tell me where the link is hidden and buried. Maybe Sasquatch has it. No one can find him either
The update I've been waiting for.
by waselreins on 2017/08/16 01:56
For the past few weeks I noticed that Evernote was pretty buggy. Lots of notes synced incorrectly and some became duplicates of each other while deleting the other note. When I finally reached out to customer support, I was impressed with how hard they tried to fix the problem for me. They emailed back and forth to make sure that everything was back to normal and told me that they were aware of the problem and were working on finding a solution. Then came this update. I was worried, cause we had quite a bit of problems with Evernote lately. But I have to say that this update is running really smoothly. You guys that said that the update won't open, maybe you need to either upgrade your iOS or delete your app and re download it. It works perfectly for me, and it's a lot faster without the lag and freezing that I was experiencing the past few weeks. A few things that I'd like to suggest though: 1. Calendar view to search notes based on dates quickly 2. Please bring back search by location 3. Please bring back cards view Other than that, I'm a happy Premium customer. Great job, Evernote!
They could make Evernote great...
by HeresMyTwoCents on 2018/12/30 21:34
Tags are a central part of making Evernote work, so why the heck are there still so many inconsistencies between the way tags work on iOS vs. macOS? For the love of God, why can you still not show nested tags on iOS? They show up perfectly on the Mac. And why is it that I can forward the same email to Evernote and to OneNote, and the email is formatted perfectly inside OneNote, but in Evernote it looks like the email exploded! Tables are torn apart and scattered all over the place, colors are wrong... I swear, if I didn’t know any better, I’d think the people at Evernote are actually trying to lose the race with OneNote. Not to mention the fact that Evernote still will not allow us to create a notebook directly inside our desired notebook stack, nor can we create a child tag directly inside the parent tag. Instead, they force us to create new notebooks and tags into “outer space”, and then we have to go in manually move them into the stack or parent tag we wanted them to be in in the first place. Seriously, why?! This is such an absolute waste of time! Why not allow us to select a stack or parent tag, and then create new notebooks and tags within the selected item? This is elementary stuff, people! They should have more than enough money by now to hire additional programmers to get these annoying issues sorted out!
Fix GUI for long titles
by LAX20531 on 2017/10/19 03:47
Using iPhone 6s Plus the titles truncate unless showing title only, no images and no preview text. Adding either/or truncs titles to one tiny row (that can be as little as 2 words). Increasing the size of the note box accomplishes nothing either. I’ve grown tired of EN putting an inferior app into production and relying on its users to solve the problems. Why can’t there be a stable app and an additional development/beta app for more adventurous users?? Many of us complained about the legacy app but it provided everything we could want, including the ability to revert to previous note versions and displayed plenty of text on the screen. I’d gladly take that back as the production app. Because EN doesn’t share its development roadmap we have no clue of what’s in the pipeline. As a result I think this will be my last year of paid use, putting me in the position of finding a suitable replacement (and that isn’t OneNote.)
Easy, fun, and beautiful
by aberrantartist on 2017/09/18 13:15
This app is very well made. It provides many options for different kinds of not taking; photos, drawing/writing with a stylus, audio and typing. There are lots of ways to share and organize them also. It would be even better if it allowed greater flexibility with organizing notes such as wrapping text around images or drawings, and being able to move images or drawings after placing them so your not forced to put them right after the last line of text. Also being able to change the size of the images and text. And the feature to change your profile picture is not very good. It doesn't allow you to crop very far and doesn't show what will be cropped out and what won't. Thanks for a great app overall though!
Can’t believe this is considered a productivity tool
by PrivateReview on 2017/11/14 14:58
Despite the negative reviews on the new price structure, I ponied up and paid for Premium for a month because I need to move to a more paperless life in both business and academia. I can’t believe how slow and clunky this product is. Scanning text in is incredibly time consuming due to delays in translating scans to PDFs. Scan function frequently recognizes only part of a page, meaning multiple rescans necessary. Marking up any documents takes 3x as long due to seconds wasted every time you need to translate from one tool to another. All elements of marking up are glitchy - text box doesn’t always appear, no erase function (just delete entire edit), stylus writing is clunky, etc. There is no way I can use this as a substitute for paper copy and hand marking. This app is the equivalent of taking 15 minutes to solve a problem by text which could have been conveyed in 3 minutes of speech. Super-disappointing.
Your disorganized digital brain
by sjebnet on 2017/10/31 14:02
Evernote sells itself as a repository for all the information you’ve got rolling around in your head. In GTD fashion, offloading all that info into a trusted system freeing up headspace. The breakdown happens when you need to recall that info. The search function is atrocious. “Where was that quote about...” Good luck. If it finds it at all, random words — or just space between the lines — in the resulting note will be highlighted. If it’s a lengthy passage with the word mentioned more than once, forget it. I only use Evernote on my phone, and the UI update they pushed out about a year ago made the app more of a capture tool than a usable interface. The app is so minimalist you almost have to have access to a computer or larger screen to make any sense at all of what you have stored in it. I’ve invested a lot in migrating my stuff onto the platform, but I probably won’t renew my subscription.
Tricked into upgrading!
by TechWriter7 on 2018/08/29 19:37
I’m one of the earliest Evernote users, but then we also bought our first computer so early that it could only boot up from a 5.25-inch floppy! So I was a very early user of Evernote when there just weren’t that many good options out there. A few updates ago, the request to log in somehow tripped a switch that revealed to Evernote what I had paid, as well as the horrifying revelation that I wasn’t paying a subscription fee! So I checked out all the various payment levels and plans but am sorry to report that Evernote’s obscene prices are simply not justified by their product. An update for which your description reveals that you’ve changed the icon (bad move, unfortunately) rather than correcting some of the rather frightening failures that I as well as other reviewers have reported is not just disappointing; it is simply an example of nothing less than the sort of runaway greed that we routinely see in the market once a product becomes well known enough that the makers feel they can sit back and enjoy their position without continuing to earn it. This was an easy choice—sign up, copy and paste to another SIMPLER (stress intentional, as I doubt they’d let me name a competitor) but tremendously improved notes app, delete Evernote, then cancel payment. And thanks for the warnings, reviewers—I’ll be carefully watching our charges in iTunes!
Better but needs a few lessons from Google Docs
by Geezmanf on 2018/07/02 06:21
I was a Premium user from way back, then abandoned Evernote a few years ago when it just became bloated and ridiculous. Early in 2018 I was convinced to try again and immediately upgraded to Premium. It’s much better than it was but still has some very annoying features: iOS versions are slow and buggy (though design is pretty good); something very wrong with how lists are indented (takes like 4 taps) and spellchecked (spellcheck thinks bulleted or numbered lists are combined with previous line); shortcuts are in different orders from desktop to iOS; saving a post from Twitter tries to import the whole thread but then excludes the original post. Nitpicking but serious flaws to my workflow and could be easily fixed if they simply mirrored Google Docs apps. Overall good app though.
Encryption woes
by juleskb on 2017/10/08 15:32
I’ve been an Evernote user since it’s inception. How long has it been since your iOS app stopped supporting 256 AES encryption? A couple of years? So I reluctantly switched to 128 AES. Then that stopped working too. So now the only way to open my encrypted notes on my iPhone and iPad is to log in using a mobile browser and then use Request Desktop Site. Of course the desktop site looks like crap and is cumbersome to use on mobile devices. Now on my iPad Pro the app crashes if I even try to enter the password for an encrypted note. Yes I’m using the most current version. This an age of mobile devices, both for business and personal use. It’s unacceptable that your iOS app lacks this crucial functionality. It seems to me that like some other SW companies Evernote is more enamored of it’s own brilliance and profits than of end user feedback and experience. Perhaps it’s time to move on.
Two features to add
by SSIDawg on 2018/02/11 13:20
Premium user. Evernote is my go to for notes, to do lists, and planning - Great tool! I appreciate the improvements over the years. Please add two features to the Evernote App IOS (iPad and iPhone versions) as is in Evernote for Windows App on my PC to get my 5 Star review. 1. Merge | add ability for all the same reasons to use merge as on the PC - when traveling it would make it easy to compile travel notes and receipts. 2. Reminders | add the ability to set multiple reminders inside a note. For example, my To Do list has multiple items that come due at different times - I would like the option to not have to create a separate note for each item in order to set a reminder. ... or the option to set up multiple reminders.
No technical support
by Razz42 on 2019/01/02 06:47
I've used Evernote for years. Unfortunately, they have restricted their website so that it is basically impossible to get technical support unless you are a premium member. I left my membership lapse for a few months while I knew I wouldn't use it. Unfortunately, when I went into my account shortly before I planned to reinstate it, I noticed a glitch with templates. This would not be a huge deal, but I am extremely frustrated by the shoddy setup of evernotes support. There are two options for support. The first is to go to "support" on the Evernote website and then select your problem. There was nothing about my problem there. The second option is to select "contact us" on the app or website, and then choose between email or phone. This is 2019, so I went with the non-phone option. This then takes you through a series of drop down menus to select the subject of your email. I did this, and was repeatedly given a message to file a report about my issue. There was no link, note was there an obviou way to do this in the note or on the templates page. After devoting a couple of hours to the sisyphean task, I gave up. I'm hesitant to reinstate my premium account, as well. I don't really want to pay $60 for additional services to a company that doesn't even stand behind their self-proclaimed basic ones.
Long time user
by SamuelCruz961 on 2017/12/06 14:20
I’ve been a user off and on since 2011 and I still can’t believe they haven’t changed the keyboard layout to allow quick access to tab back and forth bullet points. When your in a rush to write a note down that is key. Having to press the “A=“ to get to typing formatting is just an extra step that is annoying and needs to change. Take OneNote for example. Everything you need to format your typing is quickly available. I realize that if you connect a keyboard to your iPad you can just press “tab” and “enter” to move around bullet points but on a phone it’s impossible. You have to press “A=“ to move bullet points around. Other than that I LOVE Evernote. I’ve found myself moving more to using OneNote though because of that. It’s a shame cause I rather be using Evernote.
Inferior to Apple’s Simple “Notes”
by zachjj44 on 2018/01/22 08:44
I never upgraded because I firmly believed that taking notes on a device and syncing them should never cost me money. Fortunately for Evernote, this app’s function worked better than any other notes app when I first downloaded it a couple years ago. Unfortunately, the inertia of having so many notes kept me with Evernote long after it decided to add a premium subscription and slowly but surely take away all of the nice features that made it better than its competitors. Frankly, I’m a simple user- I write notes and categorize them, and here’s the thing: after getting a new iPad, I decided to give the Apple native notes a try, and it was just better. Evernote had for a while started to feel like I was constantly hitting the paywall by having only the free version and every time I opened it I was hounded by reminders of how much more I could be doing if I would only PAY for its services. But notes’ interface is sleeker, syncs on all THREE of my devices (yes, agreed, excessive, but if I’ve got ‘em, I want ‘em to sync!!), searches just fine, and is just as easy to use. I finally decided to switch over- and if you’re slowly getting tired of Evernote, you should think about it too :)
Undo and Redo button PLEASE
by PNN_NPP on 2019/03/16 14:54
I'll be happy to give this one a five star if you ever add in a button for undo and redo. Currently if you shake the phone it will offer you an undo but that method is cumbersome. If I have to do a couple of undo it's a pretty slow method. Also on my older phone the accelerometer isnt working half the time so it's super frustrating to undo Other than my complaint with the undo / redo, I absolutely LOVE this app. The extra fee helps keep this app alive and pays for the developers to add new features. I completely understand the need to charge for a service. I use this app on a daily basis for everything. I've used other note taking app alternative but none comes close to what you offer in terms of ease of use and simplicity.
I need this but it frustrates me
by RettaO on 2018/10/08 00:04
The features are great but extremely buggy so I have to be verrrry careful. I never know how this app is going to behave. Today I was trying different ways to make flash cards and store them in Evernote. I learned: If I add a Microsoft Word file with cropped images to a note and view the file in the mobile app, the cropped out-parts will show and the aspect ratio will be wildly distorted. If I create a note with a table and add an image to a cell in that table, the image will disappear after a few minutes and I will be left with an empty table. Last week I learned of I sort one folder by title, it will sort all folders by title. This is a bad defaul feature, with no way to turn it off that I can find, so I just have to constantly re-sort notes when I switch folders. Furthermore, I’ve gotten into the habit of syncing on one device and when I move to another device, shutting Evernote down completely on the new device before opening any note, because I have had older notes overwrite newer notes before and I don’t know why. Nevertheless I am kind of in awe and will keep using it. Microsoft Word will crash on a girl too, so I guess it’s a matter of picking your poison.
Great App
by Cavguynco on 2019/03/16 10:58
I have used Evernote for several years now. It is my go-to for all my note taking for work, home, and everything else. It is great because I can access it on my iPad, iPhone, and my office computer. Lately, however, I have had issues with Evernote on my iPad. When I open the app, more often than not it is frozen, which really puts me at a disadvantage when I need to take notes in a meeting at work as I do not usually lug around my laptop from meeting to meeting (yes, my organization still likes to meet in person). This has just started happening in the last week or so. Like so many things I rely on, when Evernote is working, it is great, however, when it doesn’t it is a real problem.
Annoying little things
by CicyChen2018 on 2019/02/24 02:35
Good as far as taking notes concern. Two things annoyed me after I downloaded it on my phone. 1. It shows me a blank page after I decide not to sync with more than 2 devices. I need to force quit, open and sign in again. 2. Creating new labels - It took me quite a while to figure out how to add a label. Tried myself - didn’t work. Read support article from Evernote, I was doing exactly as what the article suggests. Find another article, the answer is that I need to click on “return” after the label. Umm.. I may do it if I’m using my laptop, but who knows I need to click on return key. I was clicking outside the text line... So, Evernote, if you cannot change the method of saving, at least improve your support center instruction.
THANK YOU!

I’ve tried to find something better, I really have. I was certain that by now some developer would have created a digital brain that was even easier, cheaper, slicker..., but nope. If there is such a product, it’s well-hidden in the sea of almost-as-good. NOTHING else has everything. I’m paying the premium fee every month because Evernote saves me time and stress... and it’s worth every penny to me. Previous review early-2017: Five Stars! Quit Complaining... People write bad reviews here about being asked to pay for (previously free) features. It's too bad those reviews hinder App Store rankings. Because even the complainers know that Evernote is a stellar app with a fantastic track record. Even the haters know that first-class apps have humans behind them who deserve to be paid for their development and maintenance of superb software. I have thousands of notes created over four years, and I use most features regularly without any hiccups. Evernote is absolutely worth a few bucks a month.
Still a Great App but some of the changes are frustrating
by LilHonu1 on 2018/04/24 15:19
Easy and extremely useful however once upon a time if I made a list with the "check box" once I was done checking off said items there was an option to delete all the Line items which had been checked off. This feature has been removed for quite some time, I'm not sure why. This simple option was quite helpful & time efficient. Now I have to go Line item by line item to remove those which were checked. It is quite annoying especially when there is an extra long "to do" or grocery list. PLEASE please bring this back. I honestly don't know why it was ever removed.
Recent issues

I’ve always loved Evernote, and I’ve become completely reliant on it in every way. However since the most recent update (March 2018), I’ve had massive issues and customer service is nowhere to be found. I’ve emailed twice... “urgent!” And no response. It IS urgent!!! I’ve been logging my client hours for the past two weeks on a major job, and suddenly some of my notes, including client hours, show text in preview but when I go to open full note, it comes up blank and freezes the entire app. So I can’t bill my client until this resolves. The copy paste feature has also started acting up. Can only C/P small amounts at once. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling app, restarting phone. Nothing. I’m very angry about this.
Nah, Fam

Was on this app all of about two minutes until I realized that they want to charge $8 a month for me to access notes that I write. That’s gonna be a no from me. My Netflix account is $11 a month to access more third party content than I can possibly watch. This app however wants $8 for me to access my own ideas, on a device that I already own. If this app was particularly unique it would be a different story, but alas there are free apps that do the functions that this app charges monthly for. I got a little sick to my stomach thinking about the hundreds of dollars they would expect a college student to spend over the course of 4 years to be able to access their own notes offline. Deleted the app immediately. Definitely an interesting app idea, however. Would have gladly paid much more than $8 as a one time fee for full access.
Sadly Controlling, Restrictive, Disfunctional
by 444tiger on 2018/06/25 23:53
Be very cautious getting pulled into this platform. Once in, many restrictions and limitations, no ease of sharing notes, no simple emailing of notes, functionality buried and hidden, forced to use the Evernote transmittal system which is rudimentary and provides no visibility, flexibility. I am now stick with Evernote and regret it very much. Migrating all content out to another platform at this point a monumental task. Much of the functionality is awkward and clumsy; notes editing, organization, resultant format when added from external sources, etc. It is as if the designers don't actually use their own platform or have created with the interest of Evernote at heart, not the independent user. This is a system much more geared to capture and contain users than to facilitate, unleash and unencumber. Truly disappointing as the potential, the architecture is there.
Love Evernote - but sure been buggy lately
by JustBrowsing123 on 2018/06/17 16:25
I'm a longtime Evernote user on the business plan. I have hundreds of notes and dozens of notebooks. It is important for my personal and business life. But the past 6 months has had so many bugs that don't get fixed for long stretches of time. And customer service is becoming really poor and disregards customer questions - this can spell the end for you, Evernote, if this continues. With this latest app update, it completely broke and I had to delete and download again. Evernote, fix your glitches and be more responsive to customers. Bloated

This used to be a flexible and elegant all-purpose tool, but now it is a massive and confused tangle of specialized tools. The myriad user stories have overwhelmed the vision.
Can’t print from iOS

Keep getting message to verify email but when I do that nothing happens.. very frustrating.. getting ready to dump Evernote

Evernote Ate My Notes
by Fleet Sailor on 2019/04/13 00:16

by H1223 on 2019/04/12 23:40

Goodbye Evernote until you hire some more experienced coders.

by 2ColdAgain on 2019/04/10 02:06
It takes time to upload things like stories and links and I can never find my notebooks. Maybe it’s me, but it could be easier.

Evernote has many awesome features. One feature I like very much & recently discovered is the ability to scan business cards directly into my Google Contacts on my iPhone.Thank you Evernote team!
Major flaws
by themacchidog on 2019/04/07 06:03
When writing in bullet points, you have to go to a separate menu each time you want to indent, and I indent bullet points a lot.

Unresponsive, frequently locks up
by bclee on 2019/04/03 16:27
The latest update is often unresponsive when opened or locks up when you try to select a note. I’m having to use other apps to take notes right now, hoping they fix this soon.

by sankejiro on 2019/04/03 16:27
You’re a big company, and have the money and resources to make sure your website and app work properly. Yet somehow you manage to make it not work. And you have the audacity to offer paid services with a broken website too when you clearly don’t care about the basic features even working.
Still buggy

Undo option?
by Aflackduckmia on 2019/04/03 13:26
Love Evernote. All my notes for life are in there! But, it would be wonderful to be able to UNDO actions especially when one accidentally cuts or deletes text. In the works? Thanks!
This App used to be great..
by anthony12275 on 2019/04/03 12:36
App had gotten better but tech support is horrible. They take days to get back to you. Prior to the last update, this was one of the best Apps out there. Now the interface is different & so hard to use. I am ready to erase it & find a comparable App. It doesn't even look like an App anymore. "If it's not broken, don't fix it"
Great app always one more thing
by DownunderLA on 2019/04/03 04:54

Onenote?
Eh
by JeighReed on 2019/03/29 14:18
Frequently refused to load images on iwatch. Killing the app doesn’t solve it.

I love the templates
by BeeDarlene on 2019/03/27 10:49
I really enjoy recording my thoughts into Evernote however the templates expand my range of musing and inspires me to move my thinking and affect into new challenges and opportunities.

I'm a longtime Evernote user on the business plan. I have hundreds of notes and dozens of notebooks. It is important for my personal and business life. But the past 6 months has had so many bugs that don't get fixed for long stretches of time. And customer service is becoming really poor and disregards customer questions - this can spell the end for you, Evernote, if this continues. With this latest app update, it completely broke and I had to delete and download again. Evernote, fix your glitches and be more responsive to customers. We want you to work so that we can keep enjoying you.
