Attain by Aetna
Description
Earn rewards for healthy actions. Not all members are eligible to earn an Apple Watch®. Download Attain by Aetna and sign in to see which rewards are available to you. Designed in collaboration with Apple, the Attain app combines your health history with Apple Watch® activity to offer personalized goals*, achievable actions, and rewards.** This app integrates with the Health app and helps you: • Earn rewards for hitting daily active calorie goals. • Get reminders for important healthy actions: flu shot and other vaccinations; scheduling primary care visits and screenings; and refilling and picking up prescriptions. • Get tips to sleep better, improve nutrition and increase mindfulness. • Build healthy habits through challenges and daily activity. • Get support for serious health moments, such as finding lower-cost options for lab and imaging tests like MRIs. Who can enroll? The Attain program is available to Aetna® commercial medical members aged 18 and above. Other eligibility and participation requirements, including certain state restrictions and exclusions, may apply. How do I earn rewards? Hit your activity goals and complete healthy actions to earn points. Activity goals are based on your weight and sex. Some healthy actions are based on your personal health history. Meet your weekly activity goals to earn enough points each month to cover your Apple Watch payment (if eligible). Or use your points to get gift cards from popular retailers like CVS, Amazon, Target and Best Buy. Find out which rewards you’re eligible for by downloading and logging in to Attain. How is it determined which rewards I am eligible for? Eligibility for particular incentives varies by health plan type and location. Download the Attain app and sign in to see which categories of incentives are available to you based on your health plan. Do I need an Apple Watch? Yes. Activity from your Apple Watch — along with your aetna health history — powers the program. Can I earn an Apple Watch? Depending on your health plan, you could be eligible to earn a base model Apple Watch Series 3 (38 mm) over 24 months. If eligible, you will purchase the watch using the Attain app. All you’ll pay initially is a one-time activation fee of $7 plus sales tax. You can choose to upgrade to a different model for an additional up-front cost. You will use the points you earn in Attain to cover all or part of the monthly payment of your Apple Watch. *Goals and suggested health actions should not replace your doctor’s advice. If you have a medical condition that prevents you from meeting your goals, or if your doctor advises you not to take part in physical activity, there may be an opportunity for you to earn the same reward in a different way. **Eligibility for particular incentives varies by health plan type and location, including availability of Apple Watch as a reward. Download the Attain app and sign in to see which categories of incentives are available to you.

Misleading data
by jsimanskey on 2020/02/28 22:36
I’d like to be able to provide a better rating, but I’ve discovered that although you may think you’ve reached your daily active calories and “filled” a circle (and it shows up as such on your history), this isn’t the actual data used to determine if you’ve reached your goal for that day, which means you won’t earn the daily/weekly reward points. This was confirmed in an exchange with the help and support. Hopefully future updates will enable the app to more clearly and transparently track (and reward) the daily goals.
When does the month reset
by DBUG87 on 2020/02/28 16:40
I love the app, I love that I have the chance to earn bonus points. My only wish is that I knew the date that the points reset! That would help me know if I need to push it more the last week especially if I’m striving for a certain number of points for the month.
Loving it!!

Earning points for everyday workout is just awesome..! I have been earning points on weekly basis and recently purchased a gift card towards redemption. Cheers!!

The Attain app is an excellent way to increase activity and get rewarded. I love the suggestions and action items as well. Being able to see progress and history is very motivating. I’ve already received a $25 Starbucks reward. My husband received a discounted watch. How cool is that.
App keeps logging me out
by Techno_007 on 2020/02/28 15:11

Recording Progress
by Dedicated10 on 2020/02/28 14:29
The system does not always give credit for all days that you meet your goal so most weeks you are not able to receive the 1,000 points for meeting the weekly goal even though you exceed the requirement. Very disappointing!
Promises and reality
by Coin push on 2020/02/28 14:22
This is a fun program to get u motivated. It is a friendly program that is not too pushy. You can share your results with friends. I am healthier for using it. However, if you want to loose weight this program does not work at the beginner level. After three months I weigh exactly the same as when I started. So only three stars. Because I do enjoy using it, I plan on keeping it.
App is unfair
by FitInFL84 on 2020/02/28 13:46
Gives your realistic goals until month 3, then you have a goal and must hit all 7 days. Very unrealistic. Additionally, you can’t see on the attain app how far away you missed goals by, not can you make it up with higher activity from another day.

Great motivator to move more but.....
by luvtobfit on 2020/02/27 12:50
I love a lot about this app except how you have to reach your calorie goal everyday to get the big points for the week. You don’t do it early in the week & where’s the motivation to do it the rest? You know you won’t get the points anyway. Why can’t it be you get points each day for reaching the goal and if you do it all 7 then you get bonus points.
Helps keep me on track!

Attain has not only motivated me but it has encouraged me and I feel healthy and successful. Easy to use, inspiring reminders, friendly tasks, and a growth mindset are what I think of when I hear Attain or see the hot pink app. My co-workers have all asked how can they participate, unfortunately it is not available through their health plan.

Calorie goal changed
by app was okay before... on 2020/02/26 23:30
I really loved this app when I first started using it. I had a goal of 750 calories 3 days and week and then 4 days a week and it really motivated me. I was able to cash my points in for a $50 gift card. My goal changes this week to 850 calories 6 days a week. I feel it is completely unrealistic and has had the opposite effect. I looked forward to earning points each day and now I feel discouraged that I am not meeting this lofty goal. I wish they would lower my goal or let us set a goal.
Simple and fun

Loses its Motivation
by Mojo117assijfm on 2020/02/26 16:05
Just received a notification to provide feedback from the app. So to clarify the feedback I provided here goes. I downloaded this app the day it was released. This app is a great idea. If it was executed properly! It has the potential to be very motivational. Unfortunately it awards weekly points at a rate of around 50% of the time, at best. Who knows at what percentage the daily points are awarded since it is not clear when they are awarded if at all. Just a quick look I see 14 missed weekly goals (14,000 pts) that are clearly shown as being complete but not awarded. When the app first came out I would provide feedback. Then it started to be that I had to “prove” it by sending in each and every day of activity so they could verify. At the start I assumed it was growing pains and went along with it. Then when it bacame obvious that the issue was not being addressed I gave up on it. Wasn’t worth the hassle of submitting screen shots every week. But as noted it’s still not awarding points properly even when it clearly shows within the app and in Apple health that the goals were met. An app whose sole purpose is to motivate by awarding points by definition fails to motivate when it doesn’t award points properly. Furthermore when you then have to submit dozens of screenshots each time to prove eligibility for points it’s not worth the time. I’m not getting a watch through this program but I can imagine the frustration level would be much higher if that was the case. Also there don’t appear to be any new award partners for gift cards so it is limited in that regard as well. Great idea. Disappointing execution leads to it being nothing more than a dead app on my phone and the opposite of motivational.

by HBaker-Jensen on 2020/02/24 15:35
I am absolutely enjoying this App. Not only is it incredibly motivating, but it has lots of great tips from exercise, to healthy eating, to remembering to breathe. I’m a goal-oriented person and I want to complete the “bubble” everyday. It gradually sets the bar higher and it motivates me to strive for more. It is well-designed, simple, and fun. I have found creative ways to become more active and have already lost weight! I just redeemed my points for my first $25 gift card! I am grateful for this App and how great I feel! Health is Everything!

Chiming in with motivation
by bingerboo on 2020/02/21 14:33
I agree with “motivation” that there should be a way to come back from a missed Monday. And.... I’m just now in the month that increases the goal by one day each week. After 2 or 3 weeks with a goal of 3 days a week, increasing the goal by one day every week seemed fast. I went over that goal each time - however overachieving felt safe... this fast shift toward no margin of error feels not safe. Also... in that first month I was challenging myself to be okay with less than perfection. If I naturally met the goal for all days, no problem. I didn’t want the App to become the driver of my movement, though, resulting in obsessive thoughts. For example.... now that I have no margin for error, I’ll sacrifice sleep to get those last few steps in. And that seems counterproductive to the goal. So I agree with “motivation”’s suggestions of an average or an alternate way to meet those points, just to provide a margin of error so meeting the daily goal doesn’t become a counterproductive obsessive thought.
Great program but app freezes!

Love when the developers ask for us to email them for more feedback
by Danoshea68 on 2020/02/21 07:12
Pretty much a canned copy/paste answer from them when I did. I can’t post the responding email as they ‘forbid’ it. Missed a day this week, so no need to wear the Apple Watch until Monday. Great motivation, all or nothing. Another $2 saved by Aetna.
7 day goal
by sick days on 2020/02/21 01:06
I was at the point where I had to make the goal 7 days a week in order to earn 2000 points. I was sick ONE day and did not work out so I did not make the goal. I think ATTAIN should allow one week as a “pass” if you’re sick one day but make goals the rest of the week give us the 2000 points. I found myself Not as motivated the rest of the week because I wasn’t going to get the 2000 points
Great motivator
by Kblbe98 on 2020/02/20 23:49
The attains app is great daily motivation and gives great tips! The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because I tried several times to switch to order an Apple Watch instead of the gift cards but I was unable to change because once you decide you can’t change 😞 It would be nice if you decide later on that you want a new watch you can switch between the watch and the gift cards!

It’s good but....
by Garrick81 on 2020/02/20 21:53
I am a athlete and I was super excited to get the chance to have a Apple Watch. Set up was easy. App is very easy to follow and my goal in the beginning was sensible. After a couple of months. They raised the days that I had to meet my caloric output from 6 to 7 and I was a little upset. This app is suppose to encourage moving and working out and possibly a free Apple Watch and that’s great but a part of being healthy and listening to your body is having days off. Letting your body rest and heal. Which isn’t attainable now. I wrote a email to Attain and never heard back. I suggested maybe raising my caloric output for 6 days a week but it’s just unrealistic for someone to workout and exercise 7 days a week. No rest. No break. Just my 2 cents....
Attain
by attainer user #1 on 2020/02/20 20:54
Wow! What a great app Attain is! It reinforces my healthy habits every day and keeps me on track when I get distracted. I love the Attain app and think EVERYONE should use it. It is easy and understandable. Both important features. I also enjoy getting the emails and it encourages my competitive nature to push harder everyday and “beat” my unknown Attain users.
Not Perfect but Still Very Good
by M Go Blue 73 on 2020/02/20 20:17
I started using the app after receiving my Apple Watch 5 in November. As I’m motivated by greed - even just $8 a month - I’ve been following the program closely since. Using both weights and cardio, I’ve lost 16 pounds since the beginning of the year and I feel better than I have in a long time. At the same time, like other users, I think that it would be better if at some point there was a break from the 7 day per week schedule.
Keeps me motivated
by JtheJet on 2020/02/20 20:14
I have been using the app for several weeks now and absolutely love it. Not only are the goals reasonable but you can get rewarded for real gift cards. I’ve turned in enough points for 4 cards already. It also just makes me feel better about myself - have lost 5 pounds since starting. So yea, definitely worth the download.

Good idea, bad implementation
by 64crazydoglady on 2020/02/20 15:23
I love the idea of working on a goal that is attainable. I love earning points and all the variety of ways to earn them. The apple rings keep track of my calories and they suggest a level that is attainable for me yet a challenge, based on my history. It would be so motivating for me to see that gradually go up as I increase my activity. Unfortunately, I have to keep my goal set at 750 because that’s what the Attain app requires. I recently learned that everyone has the 750 calories goal. Since when does one size fit all?? And to reach that level every day? I will never be able to “attain” that. Might as well just pay for my watch and use the Apple rings instead. Also, I would love to be able to reread the challenges that I accept, to keep myself motivated but they disappear and all I can see is the name of the challenge.
A Bit Misleading
by LongFam5 on 2020/02/19 21:06
I was told I would only need to meet my goal 3 times a week to have my insurance cover my payment. After a month it increased to 4 times then 5. I’m a yoga instructor that teaches 6-8 times a week and keep pretty active with my own workouts so thought this was fair. Now I have to meet my goal 7 times a week, which is a bummer because I liked having a rest day. I was counting on having to pay the monthly payment if I ever wanted to take a vacation and leave my watch at home and the payment isn’t that much at all. It’s more the fact that I wasn’t told the goal would increase or that 7 days a week was even an option. It makes keeping my goal more of a “have to” then a “want to”. I’m not given a choice regarding my own exercise schedule.

by Flying bobh on 2020/02/19 01:56
I have attempted to use the app and have been more active, I have met my daily goals week after week ... even though sometimes I really didn’t feel like staying up late exercising... and the thing is, the app doesn’t always pick up the credit and support seem unable, perhaps unwilling to fix the credits. I am so glad I don’t have a watch through Aetna and the only thing I lose is sleep and energy and points trying to get my circle closed, when I do close it and they give no credit ... it just ticks me off !! I am going to cash out my last points for the few dollars I have earned and switch to another insurance company. If they run the company like the app.. I am out! .... disappointing overall...
Would be 5 star if:
by D4boo on 2020/02/19 00:12
I like having the app for the extra push, day to day. I also enjoy the fact it is helping me pay for my Apple Watch, and I can get other rewards. With all the positive there is a couple negatives. In my opinion there should only be 5-6 days a week of goals to reach the weekly rewards. I push hard day in and day out. They say to take a day of rest and let the body recoup. Even trying to burn the 750 calories on a day I am not going to the gym and or work is very difficult. So I never get a day to let my body recoup. I also have had issues of burning well over 750 calories, tracked and shows, but not received the credit for it. Also my app doesn’t always keep me logged in, or give me daily extra goals to earn extra points, towards the rewards.
Great Ap; Great concept; but...
by Eventsrnotfair on 2020/02/18 23:31
Love the Ap, I was completely motivated to work out. which I try to do 5 days a week.. everything was good until the goal was 6 days a week and then 7 days a week. This is impossible for me and on those weeks I lose my motivation for the rest of the week because I know I can’t obtain the goal.. I think everyone needs a day of rest.. Otherwise I personally love this Ap and it has been a great motivator for me!
Motivating but....
by Vlcst3 on 2020/02/18 20:09
The app itself has worked great for me. I’ve contacted customer service a couple of times and their response is good in time and content. While this program has been very motivating for me, I have a few issues with it. 1. Seven days a week is TOO much and probably causes people to give up. 2. Why three days a week for weeks on end and then 4, 5, 6, 7 one week after the next? 3. Resting days are important with exercise. Again, why SEVEN days??? 4. Why not mix it up a bit? Calorie goal three days, exercise goals a couple of days. Or, high calorie goal followed by lower calorie goal followed by high calorie goal. 5. Anything but the same thing SEVEN days a week! I guess my biggest issue is seven days per week. I’m nearly 60 years old, work a full time job and I’m tired. A restful day would be great without feeling guilty. I do love that Aetna is progressive in their thinking and the concept of this program.
Got me more active
by Elvis Presley 6 on 2020/02/18 19:51
This app was the kick in the pants I really needed to get over my activity plateau. It’s helped me track my workouts and drive good change through points that are redeemable for rewards. It’s a great concept to provide motivation. Really glad they pushed me to be active 7 days a week. It’s really what I needed as it’s easy to skip out and try to justify not exercising because of work or the kids. The app just drives me to keep going. The biggest problem might be the Apple Watch’s ability to properly detect workouts. I had huge problems there to the point where Apple had to replace my watch 3 times. Welp I figured it out. The watch loses connection to my biorhythms when I put it on my wrist that is tattooed. So I switched wrists. But the app is great.
Unrealistic
by niewiemco on 2020/02/18 18:27
Hitting a goal 7 days a week is harmful to your body. I contacted customer service they got back but never provided a response. They always say we’re experiencing some techical problems. Don’t offer an app if you can’t respond to questions!

Nice But Could Be Better
by Bothwings 1 on 2020/02/18 18:00
The Attain app is a nice app that motivates you to exercise, by showing and encouraging your daily calorie burn goal. It helps by keeping you conscious to move, exercise, and to help you to limit your calorie intake. This is useful especially for middleaged to elderly people. It helps in weight control. Points are given for completing the exercise ring on the Apple activity app. These points can later be redeemed for cash gift cards at participating merchants. How the Attain app can be made better: Issue 1 point for every 10 calories burned. This will further encourage people to do more to stay active, and to burn more calories.
Pretty good
by DTBUHC on 2020/02/18 17:57
It does its job of motivating me to burn calories. Only downside is it’s unrealistic when it comes to workout goals. I literally have to go to the gym for at least an hour everyday in order to maintain my goal of burning 975 calories daily. Plus I’m at the 7x a week goal. So there’s no time for rest or anything between workouts. Also a bunch of glitches, like my points not showing up or certain actions not going thru. I email customer support maybe once a month to fix something. But i have lost 25ish pounds since i started using the app.
Love it!

I love hitting the weekly goals, and I make sure I keep the goals in mind when doing weekly activity. Love the app!
So far so good
by nez215 on 2020/02/18 17:55
Been using the app since January as I received an Apple Watch for Christmas. So far I have been able to meet my daily goal without much trouble. I was a little startled that it went to all 7 days so quickly but so far I’ve been hit it just by walking for about 30 minutes. The daily tips are useful and give extra motivation to stay health and active.
Should be called UnAttainAble
by TA421 on 2020/02/18 17:53
I was very excited to get started. Thought what a good way I incentivize me to move more. And for a few weeks it was. Then they decided that I could do more and more until it was completely out of my reach. One week after the other my number of days to achieve the goal was increased. Now I’m just stressed out! This could be so nice. And should make my insurance costs go down which I’m sure was Aetna’s goal. A good goal to be sure. But this app just isn’t realistic. Waste of time and now I’m stuck paying for an Apple Watch. Not happy and not any healthier!
Buggy App, Skimpy Rewards
by emseearr on 2020/02/18 17:51
I’m very active, consistently meet my daily/weekly activity goals. After a full year of using the app I’ve only earned $70 total in rewards. ~$5 a month doesn’t quite make it worth the trouble of checking the app daily. The reward rate is especially dispiriting when you consider I’m paying more than that on each paycheck for the insurance. App is prone to freezing, becoming unresponsive, and sometimes failing to count points or filling in a daily/weekly goal, even though my Activity app shows I beat the calorie goal.

Bad system - Great app
by Kyle 99999999 on 2020/02/18 17:50
The app as a whole works well but the system they have in place to pay off / exercise off your Apple Watch is broken. It starts you off only needed 3-4 days a week and moves the requirement of exercising to a mandatory 7 days a week. This is essentially enslaving people to the watch 7 days a week for two years if they want to exercise it off without having to pay. This was never stated in the documentation I received before purchasing and I read through it all thoroughly. Know before you enslave yourself. ;)
Motivational app. Great for reminding to be active
by Dean322 on 2020/02/18 17:44
The gamification is excellent. I have always been highly active but this requires daily movement to maximize points =$$$. Good daily health suggestions and easy to use. It is not perfect but accomplishes the state’s goals. Well done Attain!!
Doesn’t keep good count
by FIRECHK on 2020/02/18 17:43
I ware my watch every day and meet the 850 cal it wants me too and the bubble will be full. Then next day it takes it away and I loose out on points for the week. Why should I waste my time when they “trick” you then take things away?? :/
Working out 7 days a week is unrealistic
by Russdc88 on 2020/02/18 17:41
So mine app started at 4 days a week to 7 days a week. I don’t mind 700 calories goal, however for everyday is unrealistic. Given the fact some people have religious responsibilities, they will never accomplish this goals. Also working out everyday for the whole week isn’t necessarily healthy. 6 days I can justify, but not 7. I will never be able to accomplish my weekly goals. Definitely need to change that.
Great App

I have loved the Aetna app, however it hasn’t been working well at all the past few day. It hasn’t update my stats at all for three to four days now and fails at attempts to reach support. Additional input. I found the cause of the problem. It was not the app at all! Sorry.
So frustrating

I was involved in the Apple Watch program. But it logged me out the other day and I had to do a password reset. Once I logged back in it took my to a screen saying I’m not eligible for the program. How can that be if I was already in it and earning points. Very negative experience.
Pretty good so far
by lisa082091 on 2020/02/13 22:52
I’ve redeemed more than $80 gift card from this program and are pretty happy about this. I got logged out sometimes but manage to get back in without much effort. Not sure why there are so many glitches in other users. Would be great if it has Face ID though
Worst App Ever
by Atlanta John on 2020/02/13 19:33
This app is junk. Completely random on whether it is going to count your workout or not. And more often than not it will tell you that you completed a day’s goal and then the next day it doesn’t count. The ‘Help’ function is terrible. Responses are rude, inconsistent, and inaccurate. Aetna should be ashamed to have their name associated with this turkey.
What Attain sends you when you apply for an Apple Watch. Don’t get your hopes up.

Fraud

2/12 update: I tried to pay off my watch to get out of this program. I was able to do so, only they charged me three times. I complain, send them screen shots of the receipts, send them screen shots of my bank account, and they act like resolving the issue is a matter of great national security to be thoroughly reviewed. BS. They have the system to see what payments they received and when. I don’t know of a single for profit entity that doesn’t have a ledger. All they are doing is making sure this disabled person can’t afford food while they play with themselves trying to figure out which end is up. They should be ashamed. Also, I never did get all the points that I redeemed. Do not get lured in by a ‘free’ watch. They will scam you. They don’t care about you. Original review below: This program is proof of why Americans pay more for health care and keep losing life expectancy and don’t actually get the health care they need. Points you earn for taking care of yourself? Yeah, good luck getting them counted. You’ll have to complain to developers to get your points awarded. Actually earn some points? Want to redeem them? Good luck. They will take your points, but the won’t give you the reward(s) you picked. You’ll have to complain to the developers to get the reward you earned. Do the minimum each week to earn points for your watch? Good luck doing the activities to earn a slight amount of extra points each week. There is almost always a ‘server error,’ often keeping those activities from displaying. This program sounded like a good idea. It is. Aetna does not want to commit the resources into making it work (which is obvious by the constant errors).
Ok if could set realistic daily goals and purchase watch through app.

Started to use this app as was offered by my early insurance and incentive to get moving. I tried to order the watch and was never able to, would take me to start of app. After several attempts to order Apple Watch and not able to as app kept freezing, in order to get app to work had to click on have my own watch. Needless to say had to purchase a watch and cost of paying up front to get so to work wish I could have gotten through app and pay monthly. I called customer service to inform of what happened and they advised they would eventually offer purchase of watch to those who couldn’t purchase due to app issues, this was a year ago and still nothing. Liked the idea of paying monthly and use points to pay for watch monthly but that didn’t happen for me. Would still like to get watch through app as watch I purchased is not working well. Goals of hitting 750 daily points is somewhat attainable if you are very active. Even working in a shipping and receiving area I don’t reach my daily goal unless I track other work out from moving packages and walking around to deliver packages as nonstop for 30-45 mins. Goes from 3 times a week to 7 days to achieve daily goal. Watch is set to 600 as daily goal, most days I reach this but app has me at 750 and don’t reach this goal so much. Wish there was a way to change this to a more realistic goal.

Could do more
by Miss-terious on 2020/02/12 00:58
I’m going to disagree with a lot of the negative comments I’ve been seeing. I’ve used the app with my Apple Watch for a few months and have managed to hit all the calorie goals. I’m not sure why everyone is saying it’s not obtainable, I barely work out and have a desk job but I wear the watch everyday and have hit majority of the goals without much effort. I do think the app could do more. Maybe have group challenges or different monthly challenges. Something fun like a lot of apps like Fitbit do. Competitions and possible games.

Motivation?
by linuxdaemon on 2020/01/27 14:10
Overall I am happy with the app and am happy to be able to “work off” the payment for an Apple Watch. But like others I have a problem with when you get to 7 days required for the weekly bonus. This isn’t like training for a marathon, the requirements aren’t so strenuous that you need a day of rest. The goals seem pretty much like push yourself a little more than usual and you’ll meet your goal. So I’m not going to complain about the 7 days as a whole. But, as a source of motivation, I think it’s bad. If you miss one day, that’s it. Your week is shot, and you will pretty much have to pay something for the watch that month. There is no margin of error and it is not possible to make up the 2000 points for that week by any other means other than paying the $2 for that missed weekly bonus. And again, the $2 isn’t the end of the world either. I just don’t think that is effective in motivation. To me, it feels more punitive if you don’t hit your goal. If it was maybe changed to a weekly average or something, you would have the motivation to work more to make up that difference. As of now, if you have a work trip or something and are unable to do much on Monday, then there is no motivation to do anything for the rest of that week, because you cannot make it up.
The other reviews are accurate
by Janelley2905 on 2020/01/30 14:26
I got this app because it was a part of my insurance plan’s wellness benefits. Previously when I had Humana, they had a great wellness incentive program and I was hopeful this would be the same. It was ok at first, but has gotten progressively more frustrating and less motivating. It’s always a mystery if you’ll get your points for the healthy actions. The most recent one I had was to track any workout from the workout app for more than 30 minutes. I never got those points despite doing this all three days it was an option. You are also expected to hit your move goal seven days a week. If you’re training for something like a half marathon, this is not very realistic, as you are supposed to take rest days. And the points you get for doing a day’s worth is so minimal that it isn’t motivating to do it if you can’t get the weekly bonus. The Humana program made it worthwhile to hit your movement goal daily, and it was very motivating. It seems clear that this was something they felt they “had” to do but that they have no real interest in actually paying out any incentives. If they did, it was be structured differently and would be more motivating. I’m just glad I bought my own Apple Watch and am not trying to earn it through this!
Attain: growth encouraged
by Lsober11 on 2020/02/05 11:43
I’m gonna have to disagree with the other reviews for the most part. I’ve had the app for a little over half a year and been keeping up off and on, not as much as I should... but working on it! The activity goal starts at 3 days and moves up. My current daily goal is 600, I believe because that is what my watch is set to. If I do any exercise that day, including a chill 30 minute walk, I’m fairly likely to hit that goal. I am currently training for a half marathon and most days are easy to hit. Off days are more of a challenge, but I appreciate the goal of some movement, as I don’t take rest days to mean non-existent movement. That said, there are a couple bugs with points though they are typically uploaded later to compensate. They have daily information/goals to try which add some flavor to with mental, physical, social, and spiritual health. Was very impressed by these. I earned a $50 gift card to this point, and I think that is fair, considering I’m being paid for being healthy. Thanks for the motivation and half off Nike shoes, guys!!
Great app, not so great execution
by Markj08 on 2020/02/05 01:31
Before I downloaded the app and began, I read several of the reviews to see how it worked. Even after the mostly negative reviews I decided to give it a shot seeing as I’m pretty active I didn’t see it being an issue hitting the weekly goals. We run 5k/10k’s, OCR races as well as do Crossfit 4/5 days a week consistently. That being said even the most active fit person needs a rest day every once in a while so it’s actually counterproductive to be forced to meet the goals 7 days a week or miss the goals. The $2 per week if you don’t meet them won’t break the bank but it’s just how quickly it jumps up to the higher number of days to meet the weekly goals that is rather frustrating. I’ve liked the ideas I’ve read from others about the increasing average. Maybe we could come up with a better more motivating answer to make this app more appealing and the users more successful at meeting their fitness goals. After all healthier members helps the whole group!
The first time I’ve ever hit my work out goals!!
by Mica676 on 2020/02/11 17:19
I have an Apple Watch and was already checking on steps and trying to close things. To get paid, even if it’s a little, is so worth it to me because I’m ALREADY doing this. This app makes moving so easy!! I’ve had no real problems and have cashed out about $50 worth of gifts cards so far..... what’s not to like about that?? I also appreciate the apps tips and the fact that they go beyond “hey go run” but also include mental health and stress management, all necessary for healthy living. The only thing I’d change is including a tab that houses all the tips and tricks I’ve already “learned” for me to review if I want to or maybe challenge myself to do them again if it isn’t a habit yet.
Unrealistic goals
by Larmenel on 2020/02/05 01:40
Edit: please stop saying “look out for changes”. Just lower the activity goals for people. Seriously. Make them never be 7 days a week. It’s that simple. Stop feeding us BS about “changes coming up”. Nothing is coming. Most of the reviews agree that the goals are unattainable. This is a giant scam. I hope nobody actually tries to get a watch through this (I’m so glad I didn’t!). I think we should all start filing with the attorney generals of our states (consumer protection division) and the FTC. This is deceptive and low. I work out every day, I’m healthy and pretty active. Leave it to Attain to penalize me by setting a calorie burn that’s higher than my Apple Watch suggests and making the goal to hit that EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK. Um what? Perfectionism is not the answer here, people. It’s unrealistic to expect me to hit the goal every single day of the week. Rest days are a thing. I’m at a healthy weight and am more active than most people, yet I can’t hit these goals.
App needs work / common sense check
by Leviathanink on 2020/02/04 03:21
Overall, this program seemed like a pretty good way to get people interested in being healthier. I don’t really share a lot of the concerns on here about sharing my data. My main issue with the app is their algorithm which adds a day to your required calorie completion whenever you have a successful week. Basically after a few weeks you’ll be expected to hit the 600 calorie goal 7x a week or you won’t get the weeks point bonus (which is the only way to actually pay off the watch using points.) It’s not sustainable. Rest days are part of any sensible workout plan. When I contacted support they sent me a form letter detailing how the algorithm works without actually addressing the issue at all. On top of that, every week I’ve had to email support (since starting about 2.5 months ago) to get credited for completing my daily goals because the app seems to mysterious drop days when it resets at night (even though the circles are filled and the Apple health app has my active kcal way over 600 for every day of the week.) TL;DR It’s ok for a little motivation to workout every day, though It’s very unlikely that you’ll be able to get the points to get the watch for free. (update) Adjusting the star rating again for their ongoing refusal to address any of the major issues with the app.
Can’t even get past ordering the watch
by Wvnative3 on 2020/02/10 14:40
Update: I finally got my watch after initially having problems. I’m week 3-4 I believe and it’s doing exactly what it says it does. I really like it a lot and it is motivating me. It has not yet increased my goals like most reviews are saying. If it increases my goals unrealistically I will re-rate. For now so far so good. Update 2: right after I updated the app and wrote the positive review it increases my goal to 4 times a week. I will leave 4 stars for now but if it increases my goal again to 5 times a week I will likely stop using. And rate much lower. It’s supposed to be to motivate, not burn you out. Update 3: I’m now a month in and my goals went to 6 times a week. I will no longer be using the app. It’s a shame. It was actually motivating me and working well. Unreal after all the complaints they wouldn’t fix this problem. 1 star and waste of money. It’s obvious the entire thing is a scam to make it look like they care, but actually have zero interest in paying your incentives for more than a month or so. I wish I would have listened to the reviews and not have them the benefit of doubt. Update 4: I’m not even 2 months in and my workout goal is 7 times a week. No workout program goes 365 days a year with no breaks. I would rate this 0 stars if I could. Don’t fall into the trap.
From inspiration to desperation
by Shageeyack on 2020/01/29 21:02
The concept of the app is great. And in the beginning, it was very motivating. The goals were attainable. And frankly, a little too easy. So I get when it went from 3 days to 4 days. That made me work a little harder, but ok...that’s how we get better. Then it moved to 5 days. And by stretching it a little, yes, that was doable. Once you hit 6 days...you start to realize you can’t do it based in the way the metrics work. I train for marathons, and switch to bike every other day. The bike doesn’t tabulate the same as the watch (via Peloton), so I miss out in a majority of the active calories I’m actually burning. So instead of getting rewarded for working hard, I feel the user gets penalized for working hard. Eventually not tabulating for a month will lower it back down to manageable, but what’s the point then?
Good App & Hope it Gets Even Better
by TampaTime on 2020/02/11 17:13
Invited to try app by insurance company and I’m happy I did. After trying other activity trackers and apps, I splurged on an Apple Watch and started Attain. After nearly a year, it’s still keeping me motivated and active. I consider the points and gift cards a bonus, so I can see why some reviewers may be frustrated if they’re trying to earn a watch. Requiring 7-day a week goals to be met is rough and I’m not sure it’s a healthy balance. At some point, life interferes and there should be a grace option to miss daily goals once or twice a week without losing all the weekly points. I’m hopeful that the app will continue to evolve with insights gained from constructive reviews.
I Don’t Understand the Nevative Reviews
by Farfelicious on 2020/02/11 20:05
I love the app. If people have issues with the program, that’s separate from a review of the app. Anyway, I love the program & the app. It has motivated me to stick to my goal of 10,000 steps a day. I don’t know why everyone is complaining about hitting the active goals 7 days a week. It’s definitely a challenge, but it’s not impossible. The point of this is to increase your activity level and earn points that can be redeemed for gift cards. If for some reason I’m unable to hit my weekly goal, then I’m not going to earn the 1000 point bonus. But I’m ok with that. I’m motivated.
LOVE this App!

I have run 5 marathons, but will never hit the apps goals.
by dixie longstocking on 2020/01/24 02:00
I gave Attain a chance. Training for a marathon means running 6 days a week, and resting one day. Your body has to heal from the damage done from running so hard for so long. Some days I run for three hours straight, and burn about 3,000 extra calories. After doing that, your body has to heal. You need a rest day. According to this app, that’s not possible. I would have to exercise 7 days per week now. That’s not going to happen, because it’s bad for my body. This app needs to change. You need a weekly calorie goal so people who choose to rest can actually use this app. I’m done with this. I was excited I could get rewarded for my workouts, and then you set the goals in such a way that does not allow for me to train properly. You deserve one star, and that’s what you’ll get.
A Bit Misleading

Glad I tried it!
by jsp on 2020/02/10 14:45
I hesitated to sign up for this because of the reviews on here, so I wanted to come back to say that I’m really enjoying it! I love my Apple Watch and am motivated to exercise more because I don’t want to have a payment on it. My goals have been very reasonable so far (I am 5 weeks in) I’m happy I decided to try it! I’m having fun with it and definitely exercising more. And haven’t owed anything on the watch yet. I didn’t give it 5 stars because I think the app itself isn’t that exciting. It works as a nice compliment to the Apple activity features and I like checking in to see what my goals are for the week. Excited to continue with it.
Misleading info costed us a lot of money
by Mmcclain29 on 2020/02/11 17:30
My wife and I joined the attain Apple Watch program because we had aetna health insurance. This gave us a free Apple Watch as long as we hit our monthly goals. This was fun and engaging. We received a letter and email communication stating “with open enrollment we would have to pay for the watch if we did not stay with aetna, if we were staying with aetna, we had to do nothing” Well we stayed with aetna, but changed our plan from gold to silver.. we then received notification we had to pay for the watch and we lost all our progress points in the program. After a long call and several weeks of waiting for an update, we were told the silver plan is not eligible for the Apple Watch program. That was not communicated one time up until open enrollment. If they would have said that we could have stayed with the gold plan and continued the program. Now we are stuck paying for 2 Apple watches that we only got because of this program. They really failed us and everyone else that did this. Shame on everyone involved
Motivation to Demotivation
by Lolayg on 2020/02/10 19:28
The app was great and motivating when it was 3 goals to be met in a week. It allowed for days of rest and busy schedules not allowing time for exercise. But after a month in, app started increasing to 4 to 5 to currently 6 goals to be met in rapid succession. Now, I rarely work out because I know I wont be able to meet that unrealistic goal with my medical conditon. No, I’m not going to ask my doctor to sign a waiver for me. Suggestion to app makers: if you are indeed concerned about motivating people, make each day of goal achievement merit a set number of points, instead of the unrealistic goal of 6 to 7 days of goal to be met. As it is now, it shows that your main goal is to not pay out and maximize corporate profits than to motivate your clients.
Pretty good
by DTBUHC on 2020/02/18 17:57
It does its job of motivating me to burn calories.
There’s an infuriating glitch
by RNHarrison2005 on 2020/02/02 16:55
I’ve had this app since September. It took a couple days to get the setup just right (syncing with the Health app on my phone, etc.); but that wasn’t too bad. The initial targets went fine simple (three days a week do hitting the active calorie goal set) to challenging (six days a week) to unreasonable (seven days a week). Even still, I stuck with it. But, this week the app is not counting all the days I hit my active calorie goal. I’ve met and exceeded it for six days so far; but am only getting credit for five. To me this seems like a ploy to prevent people that are doing the work and meeting goals from earning the watch for free.
Know before you enslave yourself. ;)
7 day goal
by sick days on 2020/02/21 01:06
I was at the point where I had to make the goal 7 days a week in order to earn 2000 points.
Great program, Ok app
by Jrichar3 on 2020/02/11 17:25
I love this program. I already owned an Apple Watch so it’s like getting free money for completely simple healthy tasks and completing my daily move goal. The app is inconsistent. Sometimes it won’t show my completed days and if delete and redo load it changes my weekly goal and then eventually correct itself. I don’t think I’m being “cheated” out of my points it is just annoying.
Simply Awesome
by Elduque7 on 2020/02/28 03:22
This app gets you organized, motivated, health focused, challenges you to improve based on your activity, encourages is you want it to, it also pays you to workout by giving you points for working hard on a consistent basis which you spend on a variety of GOOD vendor coupons that you shop at all the time. 5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
App
by Kn33GR0Wph0be on 2020/02/11 17:11
I like the app. It has made me aware not only of my action it also breathing. I’m two months in and although I am not losing my motivation I don’t like the fact I now have to be “perfect” every week. I’d rather see more versatility through out the week and even a break. Other than that o love it!
Attain
by attainer user #1 on 2020/02/20 20:54
Amazing App
by bubbnjay on 2020/02/27 11:00
Attain has not only motivated me but it has encouraged me and I feel healthy and successful. Easy to use, inspiring reminders, friendly tasks, and a growth mindset are what I think of when I hear Attain or see the hot pink app. My co-workers have all asked how can they participate, unfortunately it is not available through their health plan.
Very Impractical , designed to make it very difficult to get points
by Ctspr on 2020/02/03 09:27
Initially the app had a target of burning 500 calories per day , 3 days out of 7 . Later they slowly increased it to 7 days out of 7. This is where it gets impractical . Sometimes people are busy and they may skip a day out of 7 days only to make up in the following days . But this app doesn’t allow that . I wish this app had a lower daily target like say 250 calories but a higher overall weekly target . That would have given incentive for people who enrolled to continue exercise even if they couldn’t complete 500 calories in one of the 7 days . I believe they intentionally made it so difficult that people will no longer chase the 7 out of 7 days target , so that attain app need not give them points so that they can save money Pathetic app
Unreasonable activity requirements
by LeahM2017 on 2020/01/27 16:32
I loved the app at first. However, the expectation after the first month is for the member to workout 7 days per week! That is not even recommended by heath professionals! Your body needs at least ONE day of rest and recovery! I’m all for working out and being active. But 7 days a weeks is against medical advice and this should be revised immediately. Most people will be discouraged and might quit trying all together because of not being able to reach those goals.
No healthy actions for 5 months
by Cant Attain on 2020/01/28 00:21
I signed up in Aug 2019, my app did not give any healthy actions to earn points so the only way I can earn points is to meet the active calorie goal 7 days a week. (This is problematic when I have a cold or busy desk bound day or am traveling.) I reported the issue of receiving no healthy actions back in August and this remains an issue FIVE months later. I downloaded the latest update today and am now getting an error while logging in. This entire experience has been very frustrating.
Frustrating
by Dachshunds3 on 2020/02/08 14:45
I really wanted to like this app. However, within less than 2 months, I have been moved up to a 7 day per week requirement. Due to an injury, my doctor recommends a rest day following an activity day. I am 63 years old. Recovery takes time. Also, it’s Saturday and I am locked out despite using the app literally every day. No matter how many times I enter my info, my account is not available. Of course, there’s no one to help until Monday.
My goal is now 7 days a week!!
by AppleWalsh on 2020/01/27 14:32
Loved the app when it was 3-4 days a week. I still hit my goals almost every day anyways. But I wake up this morning after last week being 6 days that I couldn’t hit because I’m sick and now it’s at 7 days a week. I’m just glad I didn’t buy a watch from this company hoping to get it free because you won’t end up succeeding I know that for sure. Attain needs to fix this issue. This is suppose to be a benefit for having Aetna insurance and it’s tiring out to be a pain.
App losses data
by oversleeper99 on 2020/01/26 18:45
When the app was new to me I assumed I had done something wrong. I called attain support and they said to uninstall and reinstall the app, this resolved the issue and the days appeared. I have to do this at least every other week to get my data to sync up and recently I’ve installed/uninstalled 5+ times and the app still will not post my data. I have spent hours on the phone and reinstalling this stupid app. And I’m stuck with it because I did the free Apple Watch thing. I really hope they resolve this.
