Finally - more instruments!!!
by Pookie Pants Stank on 2019/09/20 20:35
With 2.0, this has started to move from being a “pocket synth” to a true alternative for scratching down ideas. Still can’t sample drums (or sample at all), which is a huge missed opportunity, but at least we have drums now. The bass synth is pretty tight - sounds nice. Sequencer editing is still way too basic, and we can’t record automation lanes (BOOOOO!) but if they keep developing it, hopefully it will be added.
A lot to improve
by YoShibs on 2019/09/19 13:52
Great app. However, a lot of scope for improvement. Multiple alternate tracks for drums instead of just ONE, light theme instead of dark (difficult to see 1/32 bars and the current position cursor). Gets stuck sometimes while going back to projects (all the way back). Ability to use own sound samples for drums etc + these are the very basic features lacking/missing. No support for MIDI/wireless keyboard. Max tempo limited to 180! Seriously? Straight away kills some genre of modern music, especially trap styles. Cmon propellerheads, level up, modern up!
Quality sounds
by Deezone on 2019/09/05 23:38
Not sure where propellerhead is going with this. It would be perfect if we could add more audio interfaces to the rack. I got a Love/Hate relationship with this app.
Stole GUI from GrooveBox!
by Eriptron on 2019/09/02 02:57
Update: Too cumbersome (and now also a fragmented UI) for much live use. And now $30 for everything to make the app what it should have been on initial release. Laughable Now with three separate sections you can spend all your time navigating around instead of making music. Too rich for my blood and for a plagiarized user interface design Propellerhead stole from BandLab. I wished I’d not made the initial purchase. No way I’m dumping another $20 into it. —— The review that Apple keeps losing. I think what bothers me the most about Propellerhead’s Reason Compact app is that they plagiarized the UI directly from GrooveBox, only Propellerhead made their UI twice as big as Groovebox’s making their’s ungainly to use. You spend all your time swiping back and forth and heaven help you when going from the first screen to the last one, swipe city, and bad for live play. GrooveBox plays and sounds better, to me. I no longer even have Reason loaded anymore. —— Cumbersome is never a good thing and you essentially ignored (or didn’t completely read) everything I said, like copying Groovebox’s UI. Your response wasn’t even a particularly good deflection. —— Ok, I’ve had time to play with Reason Compact (RC). You have all this power under the hood and you hamstring it by limiting it to being just a loop maker (8 bars at the most) instead of making that optional. Figure is already that. AND, you leave out drums⁈ Seriously? What were you thinking? The UI is terrible for live playing and penning spontaneous musical ideas. Eleven lateral screens are too many. You waste too much time navigating back and forth (and remembering what’s where). Besides that, RC’s UI is taken ‘Directly’ from Navation’s Groovebox app. Shame on you! At least Novation was smart enough to only have 6 lateral screens, which is navigable during live and ‘‘inspired’ play. Compact Reason should have the option to display the music notes on the keys (as should have had Figure). AND add a feature that you can turn off that obnoxiously loud metronome (Better yet, give it a volume control). When I first saw RC I was excited till I actually used it. And the record button doesn’t toggle⁈ You have to hit Done in the upper right corner? Why? No note hold or keylatch feature so you use one hand to play and the other to both navigate and tweak with. Ever hear of changing two settings simultaneously. And the app won’t support the keyboard in AUM, which does have note hold. Every time you open RC you have to re-select your project instead of it automatically re-opening the one that was loaded when you last exited the app. Ahh, come on! I, now, regret spending the $9.99 to unlock everything as I doubt I’ll ever you it, preferring Figure for a looper, that you really can create music on the fly with, something you can’t easily do with RC.
Worst beat maker app ever

Great App, a bit overpriced and a bit misleading
by GameZzErs on 2019/08/28 16:18
I thought I paid 9.99 for Reason Compact. But reason compact for the three instruments is actually $30. I just paid for the drum instrument. That is a bit misleading and I think expensive for what it is. It’s a cool couple apps though.

Budget features with a premium price
by Saint Eskimo on 2019/08/13 19:56
Reason Compact sounds good. Real good. You get three devices: a drum machine, with an expertly curated collection of samples; the Europa Shapeshifting synth, which incorporates the chord and arpeggiator player devices from Reason; and a stellar mono synth. You cannot fault the sound: it’s top-shelf. But you only get three tracks, one for each device, and only one pattern. Just enough if the musical idea you’re looking to capture is simple. And if Reason Compact had a modest price tag to match its modest features, it’d be a worthwhile purchase. But the IAP to open the programming panels on all the devices is $30.00! $10.00 for each! Whoa. Any enthusiasm I have for the app was curbed by sticker shock. If Propellerhead upgrades the app with more tracks, a song mode, and better export options, $30.00 would not be entirely unreasonable. But it’s heavy coin for an app which has potential but needs more features to justify its premium price.
Add sections to the song
by Buhgrah on 2019/08/12 07:46
Add sections to the song so it’s not just one loop but can have a chorus and variation the idea of drums, melody, and bass is the future of beats and this app is genius

I love this game because there is NO ads❤️. All the music makes me relaxed and comfortable. Whenever I’m mad, sad, or depressed, the sounds and music make me feel better. Everyone says that I make beautiful and relaxing sounds. It’s so easy to make the hardest sounds thanks to the creator. I’m not worried about the paying because the free stuff is all I need. Either way I didn’t pay for anything. THIS IS THE BEST GAME EVER?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!???!???

IAA plugin
by freethinklove on 2019/07/10 19:52
I use this as an IAA plugin instead of as my main DAW and yeah the synth has some great presets so yeah I’m probably going to use it quite a bit
Suggestion
by Randomperson429 on 2019/07/01 04:23
Can we have the option to choose 3 or 6 bars, instead of only being able to choose 1, 2, 4, or 8?
Not Worth The Price
by Wunderlust 19 on 2019/06/28 01:40
First of all the presets are so dull, and boring. Nothing there to make you buy the rest of them. To digital sounding, and at $10 a pop to get the full working versions of each synth is way out of hand for what you get. Do like the bass synth it sounds really good and warm at times. So many better products out there for way less the price.
Doesn’t export to other apps in time???
by Shivascreams on 2019/06/23 22:18
This app has absolutely awesome sounds , especially the bass and drums. I own the reason software and am a huge fan of propellerhead products. When I try to export sound files from this app to other apps on iOS the timing is Way off! It runs synchronized with other apps via ableton link , but thats pretty limited for production purposes. It would be seriously awesome also to see a “Loop Slicer” unit in the app , I would gladly pay $10 for that! That would make this app Stellar and a contender like Kong Gadget IMHO!!! Regardless it’s still an awesome app it just needs a little work and some more music tools ...???
Sounds great,could be better
by WhiteScorpion1 on 2019/06/23 14:35
This could be great and hopefully with more updates it will be. As is its still good but needs the ability to have multiple instances of each synth,a timeline sequencer and automation would be cool, kind of like a synth based version of Auxy. Also I think the price is a little too high for what you get right now. Being able able to share to AudioShare would also be great
Fantastic music app!

iCloud project sync!
by Superdave126 on 2019/06/16 22:22
App is incredible if a little expensive. But the biggest problem is the projects don’t sync over iCloud, which means I cannot continue on a different device if I need to
Great sounds, but needs some UI fixes imo
by crazyblob on 2019/06/16 16:01
The sounds are amazing, I love using the synths. I didn’t think I would be using the drums, but I do anyways. Sounds are great, but the app needs a bit more attention. UI: Sound packs shouldn’t be full screen. It takes up wayyy too much space, and looks really clunky and hard to navigate. I also feel the pace of the of switching places throughout the app is slow. It doesn’t feel as fluent. Oh, when you click the three dots when using a sound thing, it doesn’t allow you to export it. Nothing huge, but it kinda bothers me and it’d be great if you guys focused on that. A bit more consistency. Bugs: Sorry, but this is kinda buggy. For one, when I switch to my AirPods or really connect any headphones in I have to restart the app, because the sound doesn’t work. Also Europa keymode is bugged, I think. The poly doesn’t work when you have a preset from Europa that isn’t poly. You can’t switch to the poly, well you can but it doesn’t work. The app sometimes crashes when I’m editing the stuff in Europa too. Overall great app with greats sounds, it just needs more help with the parts outside of the sounds.
The dog’s bollocks
by rabies5000 on 2019/06/15 23:22
Absolutely in love! I only wish for: tempo-synced LFO on Monotone, the ability to import samples into Rytmik & maybe even an automation track somewhere down the line? That said, I really need to update my full version of Reason which is on 9.5 I believe. I’ve been using Reason since version 5.5 & never plan to switch away from it. The interface in Reason Compact is pretty much ideal; so quick for sketching ideas & the sound engine is exactly what I would expect from Propellerheads.
Compact. Reasonable. Great.
by TorresIIKenneth on 2019/06/15 03:24
Absolutely Live The APP. Buying the features should be a treat, also looking forward to the day there are other modules added to the display. For now getting the other features for the new sounds is the greatest anticipation that being said there’s more then enough to interact with to get high quality sounds the app is known for. Great Jobb Compact Team
Why is this called Reason?
by Spacedrum on 2019/06/09 10:01
It doesn’t even come close to looking or sounding like Reason. You’re using the same template as Novation’s Groovebox? Auxy used this template as well... interesting. You’re charging way too much for not delivering your own product that’s thrived over 20 years for iOS platform...
Kinda disappointing
by kid billy on 2019/06/07 02:55
I was really excited to see that they added a drum machine and bass synth but unfortunately it just made the app more generic. There are other apps that do the same thing better and they they are still lacking a lot. Still no automation. It’s like Groovebox but even more limited. I expected more from reason as I’ve been a desktop user for over a decade.
please
by Personal tortilla on 2019/06/05 14:41
Can we please get Tap Tempo!!! Also it would be great if we could layer different synths instead of only being able to use one per project
Nailed It Creatively, Few Technical details need ironing.
by Brighton Be on 2019/06/04 18:12
Reason, from the first time I used it infused my ideas with a creative energy I could not get from other DAWs. This though is soo game changing and on another level. I like my tools to not dictate my creativity but rather to inspire it and propel it forward without getting bogged in technical details. This app smashes through that goal as I can go from hearing a melody in my head and having a very good sounding sample all from the palm of my hand, now that’s how you make technology get out of the way of creativity. One caveat, I find the app a lil bit finicky with my phone OS. It crashes a lot, especially when I try to export projects, I’m hoping this can be fixed. Also, if you log out after signing up YOU LOSE ALL YOUR PROJECTS! Which defeats the entirety of the accessibility this app is trying to reach for. Please let me keep my projects, the ideas I lost were really cool. There’s absolutely no way I could figure out how to restore my projects so that really makes me unsettled. What if I want to pull up something I’m working on, on the go and I find out somehow I got logged out and I have to start all over again. Reason you’re onto something here, but please fix that.

Not enough tracks...
by AprilRoxStudios on 2019/05/28 08:01
This app has great sounds, but please add the ability to add more tracks, even if it is several Europa sounds or several basses, etc. because 3 tracks is extremely limiting. Thank you in advance.
Almost Reason
by mikenoface on 2019/05/28 06:31
Updated review: The addition of drums and bass is a step in the right direction. Hope to see more usable features, not just nickel and dime-ing us with sound packs. —— Give me Kong and a sample device (Grain or NN-XT), and parameter automation to at least bring it in line with Figure and I would pay triple and buy all the soundpacks. Also proper exporting to Reason. Once we have that, it can truly be called Reason and I will change my review. Thanks, Hanna. A proper export would be midi data and audio data able to be airdropped and opened directly in Reason. Allihoopa is not flexible enough in its current implementation.
Awesome tool ;)
by Californicational on 2019/05/28 02:46
Awesome tool to be creative with sounds.
Nice update, should I expect more? I dunno.
by dataBANG on 2019/05/27 22:59
I appreciate the care that went in the last update new instruments and overall tight interface. However without a pattern sequencer in the Europa and Monotone modules its hard to tell if this update is incomplete or by design. So, it's kind of difficult to judge how much to invest in time and iAP depending on the application road map—Will there be additional features, multiple patterns, song mode, mixer etc OR is it as full-featured as it's gonna be, just companion software that's limited and knee-capped like Figure?
As a Reason user, this is a letdown
by SomeComputerGuy on 2019/05/26 14:34
I’ve been using Reason since 1.0. I have bought every version and even supported other programs such as Recycle and use rack extensions. I am now running version 10 and have the new compact instruments. Made a few tunes with the new synths, works well enough. Thought I would try out the phone interface. $9.99 to unlock Europa?, another $9.99 for the bass synth too? Oh, another $9.99 for the drum machine? Then I can’t forget about the 7 or so $0.99 little add ons either. What kind of cash grab is this? I have the full version of Reason 20 feet away, but now I need to “unlock” items on my inferior playback device? I can use Reason by signing in to any computer with reason installed. Are you really going to hit us with micro transactions? Propellerhead Software, I know you have a business to run, money to make, and employees to pay, but if you keep down this particular path of money grabbing, you will lose a supporter. That might not seem like much, but I am doubtful I am alone in this sentiment. Please release a version of this (compact) that at least recognizes already paid users of your software.
Come on!
by MARK WHITE on 2019/05/24 18:26
Imagine Reason on the iPad. It would be a dream come true.
Yessss!!! Propellerhead Does it AGAIN!!
by McKryptonians on 2019/05/24 15:34
This was totally worth’s the wait! I’ve been asking for a mobile Reason idea-capturing solution that could transfer from phone to studio. The genius team from Stockholm delivered BIG time. Major thanks to Matthias, and all the employees at Propellerhead. Now...a swag store? I’d love to wear the Propellerhead products and create even more buzz.
Issues - naming, saving, interface
by mrdogheadSHoGoAT on 2019/05/24 14:28
I love Europa, even with the reductions put in place for this platform. I am a big fan of the desktop Reason. This project, which was clearly released too soon, should draw as much of its approach and function as possible from its namesake. I do not like at all being told what my projects will be called. I am left to look at the editing dates to try to figure out which project to open - so working on multiple things on one day winds up confusing this minimal recognition process, discouraging use. Don’t do this. Suggestion is fine. People who have trouble with names may benefit from suggestions. Imposing names is not fine, and the workarounds (exporting and importing) for this problem (it is a problem) are ridiculous. Basic file naming and editing should not require elaborate workarounds. Even the sound-naming structure, where we are permitted to use our own names, fails on simple function. Once one saves a sound setting through the save function (which is hidden, unusually, at the bottom of the screen, where users can easily open the sound-saving/selection box unintentionally, or switch to a different sound accidentally, losing settings in the process), it cannot be edited under the same name. We need to add the edited sound under a new name, because letting the file be overwritten, in traditional computing tradition, is not an option. There are just a few other apps on IOS that have this no-overwrite problem, and all of them need fixing. I am annoyed enough by the naming system in Reason Mobile that before the update I had stopped using the app. Appallingly, the recent update did not address this set of easily addressed issues. Similarly, the vertical scrolling in the sequencer may be helpful on a phone. All the things that bother me about the GUI seem to derive from the telephone focus of Reason Mobile. This particular bother - that a vertically scrolled sequencer is at odds with musical-instrument-software norms and inconsistent with the approach of Reason itself - could find a solution at relatively low programming cost by the use of preference settings offering a switch to change the default orientation of the sequencer GUI. We need not have a whole alternate pad-targeted interface, but the sequencer is pretty much intolerable the way it is. I don’t want to belabor lots of details - some matter more than others. Ease of use and consistency make all the difference, however, in the daily use of a creative-work application to how much use it will get and to how it compares to other products. Given my fondness for Propellerhead software, I would like to see Reason Mobile succeed. To do that, the outstanding sound-generation foundation put in place here needs a fully realized app to put it to good use. Features can wait, sound packs can wait. Baseline function and design need to be in place for the rest to matter much. Please, get the little things in order to make the app as usable as it can be, before the code base gets any bigger.

So close to perfection
by 808's & snares on 2019/05/24 12:13
This 2.0 update made this app 10x more powerful.... this is just what I was looking for. I own over 70 purchased music production apps.... it’s simple, the sounds in here are amazing and cannot be duplicated elsewhere. Period. Add a sequencer, mixer, and song mode and I’m ALL in! That’s all that is missing! I will pay for the IAP no complaints there...: but to make this a true powerhouse it needs those functions. Yes you can export to Reason, but for the mobile musicians who only use iPhones and iPads exporting to reason 10 just isn’t an option.....I know computers are the way to go, but phones are now the new computers and they have the capabilities to make this all come true. Honestly your company is wonderful and I know that these requests can be implicated pretty easy with the masterminds behind COMPACT. Add these and it’s an easy 5 star app and simply the most easy, straightforward yet deep, and best sounding app on iOS..... PLEASE beat Novations Groovebox to the test and add these functions, so that I and everyone else in my shoes can create and publish music all in one spot and with ease. You guys rock, keep up the good work and I’ll be following up for any future updates!
Amazing update
by Pzyklon on 2019/05/24 10:57
Compact 2 now has made it a serious workhorse for me to use it seriously. The sounds are marvelous and so far can’t knock on anything in this simple but effective synth. Thank god my iPad Pro has a headphone jack. Super.
Bounce your tracks before updating
by goblin89 on 2019/05/24 04:19
The Europa track on a few of my works in progress does not sound the same now, and there’s no way back. Luckily, I exported some to audio beforehand. Sadly, not every piece—I pretty much lost a couple melodies that I really liked. I suspect this mostly has to do with how arpeggios and chords are processed, so it might be OK with simpler melodies. Cool new functionality though, with drums and bass tracks that can have their own pattern lengths. Some UX pains were addressed. Would be nice if it were possible to bounce tracks to audio in-app (opening all sorts of tricks like reversing and repitching) but that’d be a whole different beast of an app… As it is now, the lack of backwards compatibility can be a big issue. May be worth adding a prominent recommendation to bounce tracks before each update.
Paid 10 and now you want more
by Murrhound on 2019/05/24 03:57
Your updates look great but now this app has become 30 bucks total to unlock. No thanks. I’m a long time reason user and this is just one more example of why reason has fallen off so much. The company is not what it once was. Also might add there is quite a bit of latency in the drums
Full Screen please!
by Tilden Thorne on 2019/05/23 23:16
Love the app, but can you make it so the primary screen is actually full screen, and not just the synths? The little faux “rack” thing just looks silly on an iPad. Little things like that can seriously impede the usability and enjoyment of an otherwise great app.

Ok Propellorhead, I'll bite. It was awesome to have a pocket Europa, and now I'll buy all the packs for Rytmik and Monotone, too. But this isn't Reason, yet, and it isn't quite a "pocket music studio" - it's an 8 bar looper with 5 star components. If you're looking for people to hand over more cash, how about adding a sequencer, one that lets us build full songs?

The app is free but to use anything you must pay $9.99 for each module in the new compact update so it’s not free it’s $9.99 plus $$9.99 plus $9.99 to get compact working. This is a rip-off period thanks Propellerhead Reason for nothing really nothing. I’ve been waiting since the Ipad first came out to get reason on my iPad but you people want to charge more then Korg for an inferior app. You dropped the ball on this one.
Basically
by Next//Page on 2019/05/23 03:57
Its Groovebox now Here’s an idea how about making a barebone production tool and price it 19$like korg did that makes more sense isn’t it?
Needs focus on functionality
by Jtsistinas on 2019/05/23 03:27
First off the sound is great, one of my fav, and the tools for sculpting the sound are good, but as an actual studio instrument, right now its an “ok” toy, & lacks all but the most basic midi features. As such, it’s super frustrating when using along side other music apps (hint: don't, its painful). It has a ways to go to truly be useful, and i really hope the devs follow through because this ultimately may become my favorite app - if it eventually catches up with the features of many other music apps on ios.

Needs improvements
by Snakeison on 2019/04/18 18:47
This app has so much potential, this app reminds me of a red Auxy which is also in the App Store, all it needs it multiple note grids to put other sounds to make actual beats, like just multiple sound placements and not only one,and lower the prices or do a monthly $5.00 plan for the sound packs for more deals, this app has so much potential,I hope you and auxy compete, you both are the top easiest beat makers for mobile users, the music industry can go far with such is for producers and people who just want to make beats, great app, needs more updates and connection with users!

Excellent inspiration tool for song building.
Not bad...needs automation
by Sprawlic on 2019/04/12 15:14
I bought it thinking I would be able to record knob tweaks in the app and make some cool loops to produce with later. Unfortunately you can’t record and automate knob tweaks within the app. Serious oversight in my opinion. I hope they change this or maybe there is a way to turn this feature on that I don’t know about.
I like it... a lot.
by Somps on 2019/04/12 06:49
2019-04-12 I’m holding off on giving it 5 ⭐️ just because I haven’t used it a lot yet. It seems easy to make great sounds. I’ll come back and give it a more comprehensive review later. We’ll see if the stars go up, down, or stay the same. I’m trying to let people know that 1 ⭐️ means negative. I see so many people on other apps say, “I wish I could give this negative stars.” Well, that’s what 1 star is.
Why cant i layer sounds

Needs more work
by Mic Gee$ on 2019/03/28 00:43
1. The sequencer orientation is my least favorite of all sequencers. I don’t find it remotely good to use. 2. The swiping of pages for the synth engine, and switching of parameters is too detached to be enjoyable or submersive as compared to other iOS synthesizers. This app reminds me of groovebox...not good. I understand this might be cool for the iPhone somehow (it isn’t) but on the iPad it’s just a bunch of unnecessary scrolling and confusing programming to be something serious to me. 3. The name of the app is Reason compact, the reality of the app is that it is Groovebox Europa compact edition. The Europa synth exists in a browser, in reason10, as an audio unit/vst plug...and now in a iOS mobile app without many features of the one that lives in a browser? 4. This app can’t play with others very well. 5. More features are to come, we’ll have to see what arrives before more stars grace the app. As it stands the GUI needs a total overhaul...on iPad at least, as it is way too much scrolling. I have an idea...make it look like the actual synth, and give it all the synths abilities, and add a clever scale/key/chord keyboard...make it work as an audio unit like on a big boy computer...and charge 49.99? That would be an instabuy. As it stands it was hard for me to pay 4.99...and even after doing so i’m still feeling buyer’s remorse.

Editors’ choice?
by TheRealDutchee on 2019/02/17 15:23
This synth sounds okay. But i don’t see why this is called Reason compact. This is not DAW like Reason is but just a single instrument. And why did this instantly got an Editors’s Choice award? There are litterally hundreds of synths on the App store that are bigger and better than this one and yet Apple instsntly tags an editors’ choice on it probably only based on the name Reason and to cash in on that. I give the app 3 stars for having potential and hopefully in time adding more instruments and function to it to actually become a true compact Reason. So far it is not there yet. 1 star for Apple’s horrible App store and their questionable practices...

Midi?
by Habitat1 on 2019/01/30 19:01
This app desperately need MIDI functionality In order to make it usable please the ability to set midi channel channels. By itself is a very powerful nice user-friendly synth and I Love the arpeggiated.... but it doesn’t play well with other apps.In order for me to give it five stars It would have to play well with others in the app ecosystem. Lots of other apps play nice with other apps No reason why Reason Compact app should not be playing nicely too
Fun, and user friendly

why am I required to create an account and sign in?
by Jeff A Johnston on 2019/01/26 15:55
Isn’t it weird to require users to create an account and sign in before using this app? It’s a music-making app, not a student loan application. If you’re not just harvesting emails to sell them, then please make it possible to use this app without filling out forms and giving you my email address. I can’t really review the app, since I’m locked out unless I sign in, so I’m just giving it one star. I will update this review if this changes.
You ruined it.
by caseofdesign on 2019/01/18 17:23

Not thrilled
by JDavidBo on 2019/01/15 03:29
Been a Reason User since v2. Frankly, I felt ripped off. It’s not that 10bucks for a synth is u reasonable, no pun intended. But they advertised this as a free, compact version or Reason. Forget ball park, this is thing is in another city! So far I haven’t been thrilled with Propellerhead’s foray into iOS. Reason is still a killer app though.
This! App!
by Bvffalo on 2019/01/11 00:19
I am so stoked to have found this app. I love that you can use it with Garageband! Its so much fun. It took me a while to figure out that the “keyboard” setup is just the notes of whatever key you pick. Keep messing with the settings and the arpeggiator and have fun!
I feel sad after downloading
by Leathersoul on 2019/01/10 02:25
I wanted to hear my tempo prior to recording a melody. I wanted have a count in. None of these options were there. Everything was on lockdown to pay to play. Very rude and very greedy app launch. You need let lose some features to entice the user. Whoever is your marketer on your app launch, needs to go. Create a friendlier launch and users will spend. I wish I could get my 99cents back for lame synth that I have to spend more to unlock.

I got this app because I love using reason on my computer. I downloaded all the extra packs after I got it and then they were 50% off the next week... is there any way I could be reimbursed for the 50% off? It’s Christmas time and it’s hard being poor and in college. The app is amazing and I couldn’t get help from the website it said it didn’t exist.
So Frustrating
by Mach12341234 on 2018/12/26 18:52
For gods sake, just put Reason in an actual phone app! Apple does this with garage band! So it’s perfectly possible! Granted it would probably take time, but this is (almost) 2019 and it’s no secret that people prefer the convenience of their phone or tablet — accommodate that need! It doesn’t have to be the full version of Reason but it should look just like the full version that’s on your computer / laptop but perhaps with less features because obviously Reason is a monster and most phones wouldn’t be able to handle the full version. This app is certainly good, and the 1 synth machine you get is very powerful, but this honestly doesn’t feel like “Reason” Native Instruments could have made this app and I wouldn’t be able to distinguish between the two developers and that’s a problem in my opinion. Good try, but try again! Next time with something that is virtually identical to the full version of Reason!

by AudioPhilefellow on 2018/12/23 17:54
Really? with a very social music community and all of these great producer apps such as FL studio, DM1, Beatmaker, iMPC pro, and on...You use Reasons name to release an app that is 10 years behind in options/creativity? This is what happens now.. that music community i mentioned earlier will quickly identify this app as a joke, and due to about 15 to 25 other production apps that are simply way better; “you will not get a second chance” ... there is way too much competition to drop this timid, powerless app into the ring. And due to the lax and unconvincing responses from the developers, there is no promise here at all. On to what’s wrong... for anyone who plans on making music or thinks this is “Reason”...everything, too much to mention. You wouldn’t itemize everything that’s wrong with a totaled car would you? ... you would just say the car is totaled.... This app is “Totaled” developers don’t bother responding to me, because i don’t believe you. respect your soon to be ex patrons more.

Update:Presets can now be saved- This is a feature that should’ve been included in the app from the beginning😡🤬🤯!!! I just want that to be clear. Users should have been able to save their own presets. Especially after purchasing the in app upgrade for $10. Thank you for this elementary feature. App sounds great and is worth the $10. I guess that the original release of this app excited and irritated me immensely, being a dude that’s used Reason since V1. And having paid for my annual $100 updates for a longggg time; I liked the fact they had a couple of apps on iOS that were inexpensive and immensely reliable and fun. If there is anyone out there that loves what the desktop Reason is and thinks this is even close to similar to what the name implies.... ITS NOT. ITS EUROPA COMPACT. NOW WITH SAVING PRESET FEATURE. PROPS- DONT MESS UP LIKE THIS AGAIN. IT TARNISHES 2 DECADES OF THE AMAZING PRODUCT THAT REASON IS TODAY. My ask is this- Please make an app like this for all reason modules that can work with the desktop. Not only acting as a second display but a dynamic and interactive user interface. Id go in to more details but Im not on payroll so thats that. Oh yeah- dont forget to make them all auv3 ;)

Good but needs work
by Justus91being on 2018/12/11 16:55
There’s a lot going for this but a few things really draw back. The biggest glaring thing for me is that theres no tap tempo. I’ll have a preset going and I can make for a pretty cool rhythm but I have no way to sync that internally with the app. Having to guess the tempo is very frustrating. The other thing is the Ui of the note placement is finicky, I think you guys should try and emulate garagebands ease of use there. Other than that I’d probably rate this 5 stars. I hope this is fixed, it would make making music a bit easier and more enjoyable overall with your app. Thanks team.

Misleading.. Appears to be one decent sounding synth.
by Axiom Crux on 2018/12/04 00:58
Name of the app is very Misleading.. as it is it appears to be almost entirely unrelated to reason other than it has been created by the same company and has little to do with reason. Appears to be one decent sounding synth and sequencer. And I can’t even use it unless I pay 9.99 for it.. I just paid for it thinking i would get more instruments but now I have one expensive sequenced synth that sounds great and looks pretty, but isn’t capable of much compared to the many other dope music apps I have.. even figure is more capable for writing a full track. I feel like they used their successful name as a marketing ploy and I hope they add a bunch more instruments in this very soon so I can change my review.
Great sound, but not a AU3...
by Chipraise on 2018/12/02 17:04
Great synth, but not an AU3, which limits it’s use with other apps like GarageBand or Cubasis, as I’m not able to record midi data with it...
GREAT synth.. now w/ MIDI input :)
by guitar lavar on 2018/09/29 22:31
Update: This INCREDIBLE synth has been updated to support MIDI input 😎👍 That’s the power-up it needed to transform it into a most useful mobile music production tool. Time to dive in and explore the sonic landscape 😃📱🎹🎶 Original Review: The Europa synth sounds fantastic on my iPhone!! It’s great that I can use it in AudioBus and that it supports Ableton Link. I also appreciate the ability to demo the advanced synth controls and settings, which work great and give a lot of tonal flexibility when it comes to sound design. However, I cannot bring myself to spend $9.99 on this fabulous synth’s advanced features because it does not support MIDI input. That is a must-have feature for me... and probably a lot of other iOS musicians, as well. Adding support for wired, network, and bluetooth MIDI input would be ideal for handling different live and recording workflows in iOS. Also being able to save user-created presets within the Sound Packs -> Select Sound part of the app would be very useful. Lastly, adding AUV3 support would allow iOS musicians to run multiple instance of the synth in a given workflow, making the synth a much more versatile tool for mobile music development. Please consider making these updates to turn this great synth into a powerhouse. IMHO, adding these features would elevate this synth to a 5 Star app.

It’s not free... it’s $10 actually...
by Drum and Bum on 2018/10/27 14:36
Still a great monster, love having a pocket size Europa to go with Stockholm, but you have to buy it with diamonds! And on top of that, there’s $7 in sound packs at the time of this review... so beware. Definitely a recommended monster synth if you have Reason and want to make a quick patch and play it with your other iOS apps, would give it $17 out of 10 stars but I don’t have enough diamonds! Just cause it’s called Reason Compact shouldn’t throw you off, I still want my Reason Lite and I don’t know how to get it from here.

Reason Compact should be a controller for Reason
by squintr on 2018/09/27 16:20
Oh Propellerhead, what are you doing. No no no. I applaud you for giving up on Figure (although that app did have the simplicity down which is one of the things this lacks) but you’ve got it all wrong with this app. I’m not sure if the tech exists for this yet, but Reason Compact should simply be an instrument for Reason on a computer. You should be able to use it to make expressive sounds / performances that would be hard to do on the computer. Keep it extremely simple at first. You’ll perform on the computer and just use the app for tweaking sounds, recording automation etc. The problem with these mobile music apps is that you end up looping what you’re making over and over and over again, and you just get sick of listening to it very quickly. I would never, in a million years, make anything I could release, with this app. It needs to be a useable, indispensable instrument for Reason first. Maybe much later it can turn into a sequencer. One more thing. I used the app long enough to become annoyed by having to keep tapping Demo every time I swiped to another page of the controls. Let me demo the thing or not. Don’t keep reminding me I’m using a demo. Doesn’t make me want to buy it.
Not Reason
by Emporiotui on 2018/11/07 02:18
Why are they calling this Reason, when it is just a single synth!? Seems deceptive to me. Reason on the desktop is a full workstation with many synths, including Thor, Europa, and many others. This software should have been called “Europa by Reason”, like they called the VST version. They already released Thor as a separate app, and called it “Thor”, so logically this app should be called “Europa”. If you’re going to call it Reason compact, I would expect at the very least to be able to record multiple tracks, but it doesn’t seem that this app can! The Figure app seemed to be much more of a compact version of Reason than this app is. Also, if they are not going to make it able to record multiple tracks, at least they could make it AUv3 compatible.
You can’t call this Reason...
by pugalug70 on 2018/11/14 02:52
Having paid $10 to unlock to full features of this disappointing app, I’m morally obligated to say something. Reason on a desktop/laptop is amazing, and is 2nd to none. I’ve been an owner and user of Reason for about 15 years. This app, is more or less a dud. “Reason Compact” offers zero multitrack sequencing whatsoever. It’s a stand-alone synth, and it’s all pay to play. Don’t buy this app expecting to sequence drums, or even songs for that matter. It’s very narrow in its application. As a synth, it sounds alright and has some nice effects. But if you’re a hardcore Reason head expecting to make some real tracks, I’d recommend passing on this. Propellerhead, please bring back Rebirth or something. Figure is cool, too. I do appreciate your products.
Needs more
by D'baku on 2018/10/30 14:45
The sounds are I surprisingly more high quality than I expected. Would like to see more options, such as quantization, drums/kong, and audio track capabilities. Think garage band but with Reasons architecture, flexibility and stability. Right now, in its current state, Reason Compact is just an app that makes synth sounds. The goal should be, to enable the user complete incorporation into Reason. Essentially get inspired, channel and create your inspiration through Reason Compact, finish your inspiration in your Reason daw. Overall nice start, but there’s a lot more work that needs to be done, before this could become useful.
Disappointing
by average review on 2018/10/29 16:16
So, I withheld a bad review on the off-chance that Propellerheads were being honest when they said that the first release was just a barebones alpha version of what was to become a fully fleshed out app that actually deserved to carry the name of their flagship desktop DAW. What was the first update? Two new $0.99 preset packs. You know they probably already have an entire catalog of these preset packs available. Are they any good? You'll have to purchase them to find out. What if you don't like them? You'll probably just cut your losses and forget about it since the hassle of getting a refund it only slightly greater than the cost of the preset packs themselves.
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
by diaperlovesthisgame! on 2019/07/22 19:44
I love this game because there is NO ads❤️.
Needs focus on functionality
by Jtsistinas on 2019/05/23 03:27
First off the sound is great, one of my fav, and the tools for sculpting the sound are good, but as an actual studio instrument, right now its an “ok” toy, & lacks all but the most basic midi features. As such, it’s super frustrating when using along side other music apps (hint: don't, its painful). It has a ways to go to truly be useful, and i really hope the devs follow through because this ultimately may become my favorite app - if it eventually catches up with the features of many other music apps on ios.
I love this app!
by LiamSpar115 on 2018/12/27 15:19
I got this app because I love using reason on my computer. I downloaded all the extra packs after I got it and then they were 50% off the next week... is there any way I could be reimbursed for the 50% off? It’s Christmas time and it’s hard being poor and in college. The app is amazing and I couldn’t get help from the website it said it didn’t exist.
Compact. Reasonable. Great.
by TorresIIKenneth on 2019/06/15 03:24
Absolutely Live The APP. Buying the features should be a treat, also looking forward to the day there are other modules added to the display. For now getting the other features for the new sounds is the greatest anticipation that being said there’s more then enough to interact with to get high quality sounds the app is known for. Great Jobb Compact Team
Potential to be Super Figure
by PC Sketcher on 2018/09/27 20:46
Can you please make this into a pro version of Figure, with at least three tracks controlled by the brilliant wheel interface that you yourselves conceived? To have that, with each instrument as customizable as the synth is now would make this the best music app available. Better than gadget. The wheel system is superior to the grid with notes, especially if the wheel itself could be changed on the fly, with the changes being automated.
Design and Concept A+ Works great
by Hot Mess Beats on 2018/10/01 21:51
This is a dope ad on for on the go Reason users to come up with any sound in the world and works flawless when imported to Reason 10 One suggestion we need is multi tracks to really make some nice ideas and counter melodies for the loops and sounds we are creating. Thanks Propellerheads for always innovating and making creativity flow easier then ever. -DJ SALT
Reasonable...
by Mo Freeapps on 2018/11/21 16:39
This ain’t reason if you have not gathered from other more reliable reviewers. It’s a nice synth that pretty much requires the expenditure of $10 to “tweak”. Compared to the plethora of other synths available in the App Store including THOR it sounds ... good. SYNTHMASTER ONE is unstoppable as an iOS synth. Korg mono/poly is great. This is definitely unique and I probably think it is part of a more grand scheme. Somehow. Let’s get KONG or even a good iOS reCycle. Something unique would be killer. (My 2¢)
Sounds are pretty good but has app breaking bug
by Trunks470 on 2018/10/30 03:19
Was messing around with different melody ideas and was hit with an extremely annoying bug. Frequently I would be toying around on the keyboard and the synth I was using would suddenly play a high pitched note at max volume nonstop until I killed the app and reopened. This happened over and over until I uninstalled the app. Not even usable and only gave 2 stars because the sounds are pretty nice and if the bug was fixed, it’d be a decent app to toy around with now and then
Wow
by mattuhfact on 2018/11/27 04:15
All I can say is wow! amazing job on this app such an easy user friendly interface yet so intuitive and advanced. It’s great on my12.9 inch iPad Pro but can also switch to my iPhone and still be comfortable and productive with it. honesty my favorite music app right now and I’ve used the majority of them. Such a great job love it
Reason compact has potential.
by UR_being_exploited_by_everyone on 2018/11/06 14:23
I just started using Reason Compact and it’s not as intuitive as garage band but it’s pretty good my main concern is the lack of sounds and instruments available for free I need to know that it’s a user-friendly at before I would pay full price for a product like this. Other than that it sounds great and has a very luscious sound. But it’s not the same as like using Ableton 10 live on a desktop. I like apps that replicates a studio environment and the mixing board.
Awesome synth
by KelIy Clarkson on 2018/09/25 05:38
I couldn’t care less about the DAWish aspect because I’ve already got my own workflow so rated solely as a synth I love this app. Europa sounds fantastic. But unless I’m missing something very obvious, please let me save my own presets as opposed to saving project files. I have tons of iOS synths and this one sounds so good, I would love for it to be easier to use it as a stand-alone synth. Thanks Propellerhead!
Europa compact
by Pyk on 2018/11/15 09:06
It has worked well for me so far. I am looking forward to “Reason compact”, but this it is not it. I loved Figure and was sad to see development stop when it was sold off, so I hope you aren’t creating Reason Compact as another asset to sell off.
why am I required to create an account and sign in?
by Jeff A Johnston on 2019/01/26 15:55
Isn’t it weird to require users to create an account and sign in before using this app? It’s a music-making app, not a student loan application. If you’re not just harvesting emails to sell them, then please make it possible to use this app without filling out forms and giving you my email address. I can’t really review the app, since I’m locked out unless I sign in, so I’m just giving it one star. I will update this review if this changes.
Missed Oppurtunity
by The Organist on 2018/10/29 16:42
There’s nothing wrong with Reason Compact except that it’s similar to other apps that hit the scene earlier and do it better. I hoped that this would be a mini production suite similar to Garage Band. What I really would like to see is an advanced version of Figure for iOS. I can’t believe Propellerhead gave up such a powerful app. I want to like Reason Compact, but this app relies heavily on name branding than substance.
Rough edges but OK, IF you can log in
by muncman on 2018/10/06 05:03
Since Propellerhead have chosen to make signing-up/-in a requirement, then that process should be _solid_. Unfortunately, it is currently far from it. Web views that are slow loading, allowed to pan & zoom, wrongly auto-capitalizing, with inconsistent field naming, and buttons that *do not work* (see password reset). When I attempted to let them know all of this on their web site (instead of here, which is not ideal), the ‘Contact’ link under Support there consistently logs me out instead. QC issues abound — but channels to report them are broken. First-launch impressions matter. I assume some on the production team argued to make the experience better and lost. But they were right.
This! App!
by Bvffalo on 2019/01/11 00:19
I am so stoked to have found this app. I love that you can use it with Garageband! Its so much fun. It took me a while to figure out that the “keyboard” setup is just the notes of whatever key you pick. Keep messing with the settings and the arpeggiator and have fun!
Getting closer...
by A. Designer on 2019/05/23 14:48
Ok Propellorhead, I'll bite.

Come on!

Please, get the little things in order to make the app as usable as it can be, before the code base gets any bigger.

by 808's & snares on 2019/05/24 12:13
This 2.0 update made this app 10x more powerful.... this is just what I was looking for.

If you're looking for people to hand over more cash, how about adding a sequencer, one that lets us build full songs?

by Big NightTrain on 2019/05/23 14:24
The app is free but to use anything you must pay $9.99 for each module in the new compact update so it’s not free it’s $9.99 plus $$9.99 plus $9.99 to get compact working. This is a rip-off period thanks Propellerhead Reason for nothing really nothing. I’ve been waiting since the Ipad first came out to get reason on my iPad but you people want to charge more then Korg for an inferior app. You dropped the ball on this one.
Basically

by Jtsistinas on 2019/05/23 03:27
First off the sound is great, one of my fav, and the tools for sculpting the sound are good, but as an actual studio instrument, right now its an “ok” toy, & lacks all but the most basic midi features. As such, it’s super frustrating when using along side other music apps (hint: don't, its painful). It has a ways to go to truly be useful, and i really hope the devs follow through because this ultimately may become my favorite app - if it eventually catches up with the features of many other music apps on ios.

This app has so much potential, this app reminds me of a red Auxy which is also in the App Store, all it needs it multiple note grids to put other sounds to make actual beats, like just multiple sound placements and not only one,and lower the prices or do a monthly $5.00 plan for the sound packs for more deals, this app has so much potential,I hope you and auxy compete, you both are the top easiest beat makers for mobile users, the music industry can go far with such is for producers and people who just want to make beats, great app, needs more updates and connection with users!

by Sprawlic on 2019/04/12 15:14
I bought it thinking I would be able to record knob tweaks in the app and make some cool loops to produce with later. Unfortunately you can’t record and automate knob tweaks within the app. Serious oversight in my opinion. I hope they change this or maybe there is a way to turn this feature on that I don’t know about.
I like it... a lot.

Midi?
by Habitat1 on 2019/01/30 19:01
This app desperately need MIDI functionality In order to make it usable please the ability to set midi channel channels.

I mainly use the app to practice guitar. But yeah it’s an excellent app.
why am I required to create an account and sign in?
by Jeff A Johnston on 2019/01/26 15:55
Isn’t it weird to require users to create an account and sign in before using this app? It’s a music-making app, not a student loan application. If you’re not just harvesting emails to sell them, then please make it possible to use this app without filling out forms and giving you my email address. I can’t really review the app, since I’m locked out unless I sign in, so I’m just giving it one star. I will update this review if this changes.
You ruined it.
by caseofdesign on 2019/01/18 17:23
I loved this app before, the user interface was simple. Easy to use, super fun. Compact mode was released and it is garbage.

Really? with a very social music community and all of these great producer apps such as FL studio, DM1, Beatmaker, iMPC pro, and on...You use Reasons name to release an app that is 10 years behind in options/creativity?

Reason you’re onto something here, but please fix that.

by Drum and Bum on 2018/10/27 14:36
Still a great monster, love having a pocket size Europa to go with Stockholm, but you have to buy it with diamonds!
So close to perfection

Also, if they are not going to make it able to record multiple tracks, at least they could make it AUv3 compatible.

by rabies5000 on 2019/06/15 23:22
Absolutely in love!

Needs more
by D'baku on 2018/10/30 14:45
The sounds are I surprisingly more high quality than I expected.
Disappointing

So, I withheld a bad review on the off-chance that Propellerheads were being honest when they said that the first release was just a barebones alpha version of what was to become a fully fleshed out app that actually deserved to carry the name of their flagship desktop DAW. What was the first update? Two new $0.99 preset packs. You know they probably already have an entire catalog of these preset packs available. Are they any good? You'll have to purchase them to find out. What if you don't like them? You'll probably just cut your losses and forget about it since the hassle of getting a refund it only slightly greater than the cost of the preset packs themselves.

Needs focus on functionality
by Jtsistinas on 2019/05/23 03:27
First off the sound is great, one of my fav, and the tools for sculpting the sound are good, but as an actual studio instrument, right now its an “ok” toy, & lacks all but the most basic midi features. As such, it’s super frustrating when using along side other music apps (hint: don't, its painful). It has a ways to go to truly be useful, and i really hope the devs follow through because this ultimately may become my favorite app - if it eventually catches up with the features of many other music apps on ios.
I love this app!
by LiamSpar115 on 2018/12/27 15:19
I got this app because I love using reason on my computer. I downloaded all the extra packs after I got it and then they were 50% off the next week... is there any way I could be reimbursed for the 50% off? It’s Christmas time and it’s hard being poor and in college. The app is amazing and I couldn’t get help from the website it said it didn’t exist.
Compact. Reasonable. Great.
by TorresIIKenneth on 2019/06/15 03:24
Absolutely Live The APP.
(My 2¢)
This! App!
by Bvffalo on 2019/01/11 00:19
I am so stoked to have found this app. I love that you can use it with Garageband! Its so much fun. It took me a while to figure out that the “keyboard” setup is just the notes of whatever key you pick. Keep messing with the settings and the arpeggiator and have fun!
Getting closer...
by A. Designer on 2019/05/23 14:48
Ok Propellorhead, I'll bite.
